🐉・ HEARTBURN
summ.  Fresh from his banishment, Zuko faces the aftermath of his punishment in both his dreams and his waking hours. pairing. Zuko x f!reader (established relationship) w.count.  1k.  a/n.  A bit abstract on this one, but just typical dream logic. A glimpse at Zuko’s descent into madness, almost? Sorry anon if this is mostly angst than fluff! 🧎🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
Zuko’s dreams manifest at the scent of burnt flesh and the sound of his own screaming.
He feels the molten sting of a melting crown upon his skin and the fantastical beast that is his father; something monstrous— something scaled, fanged, clawed, and too large an appetite, with a touch and breath of fire that lights the skies in a blaze.
( He wakes up with his voice hoarse from screaming. The 41st Division will eventually learn early on not to mention it. They just leave a hot pot of tea ready for him come the mornings, by General Iroh's orders. )
Sometimes, it transgresses. Sometimes, it’s his mother who burns while he watches from the sidelines of the Agni Kai; Or Azula. Their shrieks mix with his when he wakes.
Sometimes, it’s Iroh who scalds him. Great Dragon of the West, jasmine-white with razor teeth and a flame that burns as hot as the sun; serpent eyes a shining gold and a sharper tongue that spoke of his disappointment for his nephew.
Sometimes, it begins with you.
Please, you beg, at the foot of a winged beast. It speaks in the voice of his father; damning, all-encompassing. It warns the Prince the price of compassion, of mercies, and of weaknesses. Eliminate her, or I will.
Rarely does Zuko ever move. He’d plead in your name, to spare your life. It never happens; he just wakes to the smell of smoke and the sound of your screaming.
( There are dreams he doesn’t speak at all to defend you. The shame devours him whole. )
Tumblr media
“I’ve killed you over a hundred times, in my sleep.”
In the aftermath of another nightmare, you turn to face Zuko. You’re not quite sure what to say.
“Other nights, it’s the 41st, or Uncle,” he says, quietly. “Even mom, or Azula.”
You turn back to the small medical chest on the desk. The infirmary is quieter at times like these; the soldiers of the 41st know not to visit the usual haunts of their Prince. Tonight, Zuko will have to replace the bandages of his scar, and there are only two people on this ship he’d ever trust in his life to lay a hand on it.
You’re shifting towards where he’s sitting on one of the cots. “May I?”
( You ask. You always ask. Even when you’ve done this nearly fifty times, you ask. Zuko is glad; there’s a comfort in agency, especially when he’s gotten so used to losing it every time he sleeps.  )
He nods, and you make quick work to unravel the bandages. When the layers come away, you observe the way his left eye shuts and opens as he blinks, remaining half-closed into a permanent expression of pain. He looks away, downcast.
The skin around is stretched taut, some areas rawer than others, marred with growing scar tissue that knots in twisting valleys. ( Zuko has only seen the scar once. He’s covered the mirrors in his room ever since; avoids glancing at his own passing reflections. )
The wound is still fresh; the memories fresher.
You don’t flinch at the sight or recoil like the other soldiers or dignitaries.
He finds… solace in that.
( Something roils in his mind. It uncurls and hisses and growls. )
“Tilt your head for me,” you say, ready to replace the cotton on his eye with a new one.
He stops your wrist just as you do.
Your heart jumps at the contact. His hands are warm.
“Why?” he blurts.
You blink in confusion.
“Why’d you come with me?”
The reply is instant, and unintentionally drowned in affection. “Where else would I have belonged?”
Zuko almost answers instinctively: With me. By my side. He shakes his head.
“You should have never come,” he says, instead. He’d grown fond of you over the years. Too fond; over some Firenation colonel’s daughter, a force to be reckoned with and yet a childhood friend who he’d played and studied and fought with countless times. Fond enough that he’d been foolish to let you step foot into the ship of the 41st Division the day he’d been banished; fond enough to be foolish enough to allow you to put yourself in harm’s way. “You could’ve had a better future back home.”
“But a miserable one,” you counter.
His nostrils flare as he sighs. You watch the way his brows weave to a frown, the way they always did whenever he’s tamping down his frustration. "Nothing is more miserable than being banished from home. Yet here you are walking away from it.”
“You and I both know the palace was never a home for me,” you say. “I’ve been by your side my entire life. I’m not about to break that streak over some punishment. You matter to me.”
Zuko’s heart stifles.
( Compassion, he hears the wings of the blood-red dragon in his dreams unfurl. Compassion is a sign of weakness. )
“It was a stupid move,” he blurts, letting go of you. He had wanted it to be emotionless, but it comes out as distinctively bitter: “Sooner or later you’ll come to regret your decision. Then, you’ll see I was right all along.”
“Maybe,” you say, just to appease him. “But I doubt it.”
( Lies, jeers the serpent. You have only yourself to rely on in this world, Zuko. )
For the sake of conversation, you don’t provoke him further. You continue, instead, with replacing the dressings around his eye. He’s angry enough as is with the world— with you. For being stubborn. And strong. And steadfast. And loyal. And—
Zuko glances at your face in focus, your hands so careful in binding the gauze it’s nearly featherlight. “Tell me if it hurts,” you say, with gentle authority.
The ire leaves his body. Zuko’s gaze softens at a realisation:
“Not once have you ever hurt me. Not even in my dreams.”
It’s a statement so frighteningly vulnerable that it has you stilling. Your breath staggers. Something swells in your chest. You let your hand rest on his cheek, thumb below his scar. The touch is reassuring. Zuko wants to lean into it.
“I don’t think I ever could,” you answer, honestly.
( She can, sings the beast. She will. And once she does, know that it will burn tenfold than what I've done. )
Zuko's hand settles on top of yours.
“You can hurt me,” he concedes, solemn, voice barely above a whisper. “You can if you must. I command it.”
( The dragon in his head hisses. For now, it retreats. )

A retelling of the end of Zuko and Azula’s Agni Kai because we were ROBBED [Zutara]
”Zuko!” Katara yells, but another blast of lighting is hit close to him, separating the two.
Zuko tries to focus on the fight occurring in front of him, but the pain in his chest is beyond anything of what he expected. It’s excruciating, who knew Azula’s bending could be this painful. He had encountered firebender after firebender when fighting, but Azula was beyond them. Or maybe this just hurt more because she was his sister.
Zuko groans and reaches his arm out, trying to get up and fight as much as possible. But everything hurts. His body feels frozen and he can feel his heartbeat cry.
”You don’t look so good Zuzu,” Azula yells, he’s not quite sure from where. His eyes keep on closing without his permission and his body keeps on aching with every breath he takes, but he knows that if he lets his consciousness go, he may never get it back. So while Katara fights Azula, he’ll fight himself, and they’ll both win.
The sounds of water and lighting fill Zuko’s ears, and he tries to imagine what is occurring in his head.
He hears Azula say something else, this time, it sounds a lot more like a mumble in his ringing ears.
Then, silence. Zuko worries over what’s happened. It’s too quiet. A thousand thoughts flood his head at once and they all end with one of them dead.
Zuko winces, this time, he’s not entirely sure if it’s from the pain or the scenarios coursing through his head.
Almost as soon as it started, however, the silence ends, and the splashing of water can be heard not far from Zuko. This time, the sounds are all too loud, he can hear the clinking of chains against each other as someone is tied, and Zuko prays it’s Azula.
He hears Azula grunt in frustration and he knows Katara has won. He lets out a small sign before unwillingly redirecting his attention to the pain he can feel everywhere.
Katara comes over to him and flips him to his side, taking out leftover water and bending it to fit around her hand shape. She lightly presses her hands against Zuko’s wound on his chest and lets it heal.
Initially, he hates the feeling of pressure on his fresh wound, but it quickly fades as he is relieved of any and all pain. Zuko opens his eyes and looks over to Katara.
”Thank you, Katara,” he rasps out.
she smiles and tears tug at her eyes, “I think I’m the one who should be thanking you… We did it” she replies, letting the tears from her eyes finally fall.
Zuko looks at her and the tears streaming down her face.
”Are you okay?” He asks, taking into account her physicality. It doesn’t look like she has any wounds.
Katara tilts her head, still lightly crying. “What do you mean?”
”You’re crying,” he obviously points out.
”Yeah, tears of happiness,” she laughs out.
Zuko looks over to Azula, whose hands and mouth are iced as to avoid attacking any further. He looks back over to Katara who looks equally as confused as he feels over the concept of tears of happiness.
”You… Cry when you’re happy?” Zuko finally clarifies.
”Yes,” Katara quickly answers.
he tilts his head as Katara did earlier, still not grasping the idea.
”You’re doing it too,” Katara finally points out.
Zuko widens his eyes and brings a hand up to touch the bags under his eyes which are indeed wet. “That might be moreso from being shot with lighting than joy, if anything. Are you sure you’re okay?” Zuko checks Katara’s arms and analyzes her face.
”Zuko, I never thought I’d say this, but you have a lot to learn about being happy.” Katara lightly jabs at him.
Zuko lets out an “mmm” of acknowledgement, still not completely sure if Katara is okay, but allowing her to win the conversation.
Katara takes Zuko’s arm and allows his to lay his weight on her as they begin to leave.
”And for the record,” Zuko finally continues, “you’re a pretty crier.”
Zuko is just able to catch a glimpse of Katara’s face heat up before she turns her head the other way.
”You’re so awkward,” she says, flushing.
”It was a compliment!” He argues.
And Katara laughs. A nice, light laugh that almost makes Zuko forget everything that happened.
This time, it’s his turn to turn away his blush.

Taken - Zutara - Part 9
First / Previous / Next
The reaction is immediate.
Amber eyes widen, panic clear on his features. Zuko turns his body, putting his back to his uncle and facing a wall, so only his non scarred side was facing Katara. His gaze darts wildly about, as if unsure what to look at.
And, oh. That... That was odd.
She had seen him do it before, had noticed how he had kept turning away, seemed to have trouble looking her at head on. Now, seeing how much effort he would put into hiding the scar from her, she was starting to understand. He was ashamed of his scar, and if she was going to get anywhere, she needed to know why.
"I brought you home," Zuko said, his voice tinged with anger and an underlying sorrow. "So go home."
Katara frowned, tilting her head, and stepped into the room. Zuko's eye darted towards her, and he jerked.
"I said go home!" He turned a little further away from her, so he was shouting at a wall hanging.
Katara took another step, head high and determined. "Not until you look me in the eye."
His hand came up, shooting flames as he shouts. Her father shouts behind her, but Katara isn't worried. He's not aiming for her, and she doesn't flinch as the flames go wide and turn a portion of the wall red hot for a moment. Azula had thrown flames at her that came closer than that. She steps closer, one hand reaching out to his arm.
He's shaking, trembling really, with something held deep inside.
"Zuko," she said, her hand squeezing his sleeve. "Look at me."
He turned, so slowly, Katara almost thought time had slowed. When both his eyes were looking at her, she took a moment to study him. His eyes were filled with nervous energy, searching her face. She could tell, whatever she said in that moment, would change him forever. She could break him down to ash, or stoke him into the inferno she knew he could be.
"There you are," she said, smiling at him. "I've missed you."
It had been a long six months for her. Clearly, the same could be said for him. Zuko let out a strangled gasp, his hands coming up to grasp at her elbows. It was a desperate sort of hold, as if he were afraid she would vanish if he let go. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he couldn't stop himself as he dropped to his knees.
Katara followed him, sitting on the floor with him, as he let out all the emotion that had built up over the months. She held him, rubbing soothing circles on his back, and glancing up at Iroh. The old general looked a bit misty eyed himself, but gave her a smile as he exited, taking her father with him.
When the door was shut and Zuko was taking deep and even breaths, Katara finally spoke.
"What happened?" she asked. "I want to know everything."
Zuko kept his head bowed, but didn't try to hide his scar from her again. "It's a long story."
"We have time."
"You aren't going to like it..."
"I don't care."
"...You're going to hate me..."
"I could never."
Finally, he took a deep breath, and started from the very beginning. "When my grandmother got sick, Fire Lord Azulon was desperate..."

Drabble challenge
#56 - Azuatara
#113 - SwanQueen
You can pick one or do both. I just wanted to give the option
Sorry completely missed this when you sent it, hope you enjoy!
Azutara - ‘I don’t do hugs’
The inner workings of physical affection was not something that Princess Azura was ever taught in her efforts to master her element and intricacies of politics.
Becoming a member of Team Avatar didn’t change her understanding, no matter how much she wanted to change. It was more important to focus on defeating the Fire Nation before she turned her attention to everything that her royal upbringing had deprived her of.
Emerging into the Western Air Temple, she was’t at all thinking about the Fire Nation as sh researched frantically for the person who had convinced her to betray her nation, the girl who she had no idea who had survived the failed invasion.
She was crushed by a hug by an unforeseen embrace.
Initially, she stiffened but, as Katara cooed how happy she was that she made it into her ear, Azula forgot her objection about how she wasn’t one for hugs.
How could she when she lifted her arms and found that they fit so well together?
SwanQueen - ‘I prefer blondes’
Their relationship was supposed to be a secret, at least until they figured out how serious they were.
What was the sense in destroying the status quo of Storybrooke with news of the Saviour and Evil Queen dating until they were sure that they were going to last.
Currently, Emma Swan was regretting this decision, watching the diner’s counter with her knuckles whitening around her coffee.
She’d agreed to let Cruella into town, but she now wished she had the right to banish people.
The woman had the audacity to to trail her hand down the mayor’s arm.
Emma pushed herself up without a plan, heading over to the counter, but she was prevented from engagement as she got close enough to hear her girlfriend drawl while slipping away from the counter, “I prefer blondes.”
Cruella huffed but Emma had eyes only for the smirking mayor passing the dumbstruck saviour.
“Miss Swan,” she greeted as she went.
Cruella tilted her head at her curiously but Emma didn’t notice.
She was too busy shaking her head before deciding to go after her girlfriend.

Heyyy, I absolutely love your Zuko fics!
Could you do a Zuko x reader where the reader is Zuko’s childhood friend and a firebender but decided to never bend again after the Agni Kai? And then there is some hurt/comfort after they reunite with Zuko trying to show the reader the beautiful side of firebending?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Cold?’- Zuko x female!reader
Masterlist <3
An: HIYA! LET'S PRETEND I DIDN’T DISAPPEAR LOL. Anyways thank you for the request loveee <33 (and for the compliments <3)
Summary:
I’m too lazy just read the request man
Warnings: hurt/comfort I guess, ants (?), that’s basically it.
Tumblr media
Even as a firebender, there were few times you actually felt warm. Maybe the heat regulations in your body defected, or maybe it was just the essence of the flame itself - one that was proven time and time again to bring destruction and calamity to the people around he who beholds it.
Sure, the agni kai was traumatising, that’s no light and easy topic, but it really showed the complete and utter chaos power can hammer into someone. Power, and fire. Ever since that effervescent hue of danger filled reds and oranges kissed the skin of Zuko, things just weren’t the same. You could no longer even muster the courage to bring up a flame. Something as simple as boiling water for tea, or heating the cooker for some broth felt agonisingly difficult. Your parents assumed it to be a phase of your life, a mental state you put yourself in to be rebellious. But truly, you couldn’t firebend.
When you joined team avatar, you made it clear that under no circumstances would you even think about producing that horrid warmth, and surprisingly enough, they didn’t push. You and Sokka bonded quite a lot over being non-benders, because to them, you were. You weren’t the child who disappointed the king of the nation by refusing to be an extension of his likeness, you were just a non-bender. There was no association with you and the blazes. You were safe from it.
Safe.
Today didn’t feel very safe though, it felt extra chilly almost. Your friends all stood on the opposite side as your former best friend, weapons at the ready, guards higher than ever.
“Hello Zuko here,”
Mixed feelings. You didn’t know what this was. Perhaps you saw red at the villain, or you saw blue at the mistreated child, or maybe yellow at the glimmer of hope. Through this haze of colour though, you saw something else. You saw Zuko. As much as it was corny and cheesy to even think about, that was Zuko. Not prince Zuko, not firelord’s son Zuko - just the Zuko. Chills ran laps down your spine, suddenly feeling light headed and nauseous. You were letting your guard down. You shuddered at the thought, and Katara tilted her head from her position.
“Just cold,” you smiled softly, but it didn’t quite reach your eyes.
There was just something she couldn’t read, like a cliff-hanger in a novel, or a hint in a riddle. But there was a task at hand, a task that needed to be dealt with.
And you thought it was, and it was over. But you were wrong.
The time came for you to pick whether the boy would join the team. Anxiously, you looked at your friends, the decision being a tough one at best.
“Well okay,” you mumbled.
Aang smiled and welcomed Zuko into the team.
You would say the day was rather mundane after that, but the next one was most definitely not. Zuko and Aang disappeared, which caused you to go off on a rampage on how much you hate Zuko and how you knew this would happen and Katara backed you up all the way through. Well that was until Sokka decided to voice his observation,
“This seems more personal than him just attacking us.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know. You’re not usually this mad about something, you didn’t even want Azula to die. Azula.”
“Just uh mad, i guess.” you mumbled, folding your arms defensively.
And then Zuko took Sokka on a field trip, and the day after they came back, you thought finally things were gonna die down. Wrong.
Azula made her grand appearance, almost taking your life before you could even blink your eyes awake. Most of the fight was a blur of fire, but you managed to just catch when Zuko practically tackled Katara to get her away from the danger zone, and her sour reaction to him. You felt a pit in your stomach, an annoyed look on your face.
Zuko instructed everyone to leave, claiming this was a family thing. But you would be stupid if you let him get credit for this. He began his sprint before you, but you reached faster, a different kind of fire behind your gaze.
Your feet gracefully left the landing, and you pulled out a pocket knife, utilising its sharpness in order to slit a massive hole in the air balloon just above the battle. You dropped with a grunt onto the battle ground, trying to stabilise yourself.
“Well well well, if it isn’t little Yn! What? Still don’t use your fire?” She asked, blasting a bright flame in your direction.
You dodged almost effortlessly, a sigh as you rolled your eyes, “it’s okay, just trying to give you a winning chance, Zula.” You smirked.
She frowned, grunting as she blasted more fire at you. Zuko took the opportunity to blast some from behind, but she caught it, unintentionally miscalculating where you were, so her fire sprayed in another direction. You dodged anyways, muscle memory kicking in, accidentally landing where her fire was. The closeness of the heat scared you, although it didn't hurt, the shock itself was enough to cause you to stumble back. Back and off. You heard Zuko yell your name but it was blocked out by the mass amount of air whizzing past your ears. You tried to stick your knife into anything, hoping to grapple yourself up, but no, you just continued to fall. You thought you might pass out, hopefully before you hit the ground, but then something caught you. Sokka tugged your arm so you would fall onto Appa’s saddle, and you immediately laid down, nervous giggles escaping as you hyperventilated. You weren’t really concentrating, but you heard Zuko’s voice nearby soon after, and immediately sat up, shuffling to the furthest corner from him.
Azula survived, but part of you was relieved. You weren’t ready to just witness a murder. You will however now be in a cramped space with that supid firebender for an undisclosed amount of time.
“Are you okay?” he said, a rasp in his voice.
“I’m fine.” you replied, coldly.
He sighed, nodding.
Once you got to your destination, that night he, again, took someone on a field trip - Katara. You were dying to hear her say she still didn’t trust him, but it was the opposite, she did trust him. It was just you now.
That brings us to today, the group all sat by a bonfire at ember island, passing food around. Zuko came to join you, only to find the only empty seat next to you. When he sat, you completely ignored him, not even sparing a glance towards his side.
“Yn,” he whispered, only loud enough for you to hear, there was a tint of desperosity behind his tone, it ached your heart to see him like this, the urge to just reach out and hug him looming just behind the urge to punch his stupid face.
Toph however, tuned you both in when she noticed your heightened heartbeat, eavesdropping shamelessly.
“What,” you said, not even turning to look.
“Can we talk?”
You turned to look at him, a scowl on your face, “No.” plain, and simple.
He frowned, a hurt look on his features, “Yn,”
You got up immediately, dusting yourself off before storming off.
“What’s up with her?” Katara asked.
“Familiar?” Toph replied, referencing the similar scenario that occurred the day before, in which Katara was in your shoes.
Said girl rolled her eyes annoyedly.
“Do you know, Zuko?” The avatar asked, but Zuko got up abruptly and followed you, mumbling ‘I think so’.
The firebender followed your footsteps, and found that they came to a halt near the entrance of a cave. Slowly, he pushed the vines to the side. There you were, knees to your chest, arms crossed.
“May I.. May I come in?”
You rested your head against the damp grey rock wall, your eyes never leaving the moss coloured roofing, “Okay,”
The prince’s steps neared you, before his body carefully slumped down next to you, an extremely small gap between you two.
“Are you cold?” and suddenly you were twelve again.
And suddenly you were hiding under your bed, with Zuko trying to talk you into a good mood after you got lectured by your parents. He crawled under the bed to see you more clearly, although he realised it was darker once he got there. His face was inches away from your tear soaked one.
Your body stood alight with goosebumps, and he took notice once his arm fell upon your bicep area.
“Are you cold?”
You nodded, and he made a small fire in his palm, careful not to let his bed go up in flames. He smiled once he saw your face, and you smiled back. Then, you began to laugh, and so did he, and the fire went out, and you laughed some more. Your stomachs hurt, but you both really didn’t know why it was so funny. It just was.
“A little,” you replied, coldly.
Slowly, a heat formed, creeping gently around his hand as he toyed with it.
“I-”
“Don’t.”
Your vision glossed over, and yet, no reaction.
“Yn,”
You slowly turned your head towards him, still resting it on the wall, but your eyes never seemed to leave the flame burning in his pale palm.
“What do you want, Zuko?” but it didn’t sound like a question - although it was - it came out as more of an insult, like his name alone was so taboo that it was degrading.
He paused, and you turned to face the far wall again, sighing. The boy chewed on his lip nervously, trying to find a reason to ask his next request.
“Yn, give me your hand, please,”
You furrowed your brows, eyes jumping to your fingers. It was so cold, it felt like your fingertips would fall off, you only realised how icey they felt when you tried to move them. You winced, it hurt to try to articulate.
Hesitantly, you put your hands out, and he neared his to yours. The glow of the fire flowed as your hands collided, remaining in his, but oh so close to yours. You gasped.
“Trust me, it won’t hurt,”
Then it touched you, you squished your eyes shut, waiting for the electricity to run through you.
“Zuko,” you said shakily, feeling dizzy.
“Yn,” he replied, smiling softly - you could tell from his tone.
Slowly, you opened your eyes, and there it was, a tiny heartbeat dancing in your hands. When you looked up, mouth agape, Zuko’s eyes were fixated onto you, his smile reaching his eyes. Genuine was what you would call it.
And then, your fingers thawed, and moving was a lot easier. It felt like a new door was open, a world of never ending possibilities awaiting, all arising from a simple yellow. You tilted your head to the side a little watching it move, feeling shy under the prince’s gaze.
“I’m sorry I left you,” you nodded, never making eye contact with him, for fear of a drop slipping from the bars you’ve set in your eyes, because he shouldn't see you cry,
“I was an awful person, to say the least.” you hummed, a smile at his self recognition, “But, there was never a moment when I was on the ship where I didnt think of you.” he swallowed thickly, and you finally locked eyes with him, the flame failing to stay alight.
His hands were still guiding yours, never mind the fact that there wasn’t anything anymore.
“I’ve made lots of mistakes, I think I’ve made every mistake at that,” he took a deep breath, his face becoming more flushed, “I think the greatest one was losing you.”
Your face contorted into a frown, like a child who just got denied a new toy, and you looked down, shaking your head.
“I’m sorry yn, I really am,”
His words ran in your skull, and through tear filled eyes, you hugged him. You hugged him really tight. At that moment, you two were kids again, reunited after a week apart because you were grounded. You sobbed into his shoulder, and he gripped tightly, scared if he were to let go, this would all be a dream, and you wouldn’t be within his reach.
“It’s okay Zuko, I forgive you.” you leaned back, and held his face in your hands, a smile on your face.
And then maybe it was the wind in his hair, or the blush on his cheeks, or the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes, but you felt compelled to him. Like a magnetic force was pulling you two together. You rested your forehead against his, and he shut his eyes, sighing heavily as he tried to bite back the waterworks.
Opening his eyes again, he gently brushed his lips against yours, testing the waters, testing his place. He stared at you, gauging your reaction from his place against your forehead. You furrowed your brows, pulling him back against your lips in a more passionate kiss.
To him, it was like the everything aligned for him, like colour reappeared in his dull world haunted by the ghosts of his past. His heart pounded in his chest, his lips moving in sync to yours. It felt like it lasted forever, if he were to die due to the lack of oxygen right now, he’s not even sure he would care, for his spirit wouldn’t be vengeful at all. The actual act of affection was cut short by a rustle outside of the hauntingly cold cove, thinking it was someone you may know. You moved back and sat next to him, against the wall again. And then, you dropped your head onto his shoulder with a sigh.
“This doesn’t change anything, you know,”
He laughed, “Sure,”
You hit him on the chest, gently enough that it doesn't hurt, but hard enough so that he can feel it.
“I’m serious!” The beaming smile on your face was a contradiction.
He smiled, resting his head against the wall, mimicking your previous sitting style. Zuko stuck his hand out, and you took it, squeezing it tightly.
Although the cave was cold, damp, and falling apart, much like how you were before - it was also warm, soft, and strong, and maybe that’s how you felt.
But maybe it was even weirder to compare yourself to a cave full of ants.

First kiss or ember Island for the prompts
“Momo, don’t eat that!” Katara scolded the lemur as he attempted to eat what appeared to be some sort of crab. The crab snapped at Momo as he stuck out an experimental paw, making all his fur stick up like he’d been electrocuted. Momo hissed at the crab, before flying up to land on Katara’s shoulder. “I did warn you,” she said, laughing gently as he squawked and soared off in the direction of the house, probably to go complain to Appa.
Katara took in a deep breath, taking in the salty air, and feeling the push and pull of the waves around her. A flash of light drew her attention to the training grounds, where Zuko, very shirtless, was ducking, twirling and weaving in the familiar motions of the Dancing Dragon. Not wanting to disturb him, she perched herself on the far wall, admiring his form. He had always been a powerful bender, she recalled, but after he had figured out how to communicate with the dragons, he had reached a whole new level. It had made him both an incredible warrior, and an amazing teacher. She had been zoning out, staring shamelessly as he commanded the fire that she didn’t notice him watching her. She met his eyes, blushing slightly. He raised a teasing eyebrow.
“Enjoying the view?” he called, wiggling his eyebrow suggestively. She smirked, shrugging her shoulders noncommittally, flushing slightly at the way his gaze roamed over her. His dark eyes met hers, and she could see the excitement. “C’mon, I wanna show you something.” He said, flashing her the crooked, toothy grin that she had become so fond of over the past few weeks. The one he saved just for her. She couldn’t help but return it as he slipped on his vest. He reached up to grab her hands, tugging her down from the wall.
“Where are we going?” Katara asked as she slipped her hand into his.
“You’ll see.” Zuko smiled, squeezing her hand. “It’s one of my favourite places on the island.” They hiked in silence for a couple minutes, before arriving at a small, seemingly untouched stretch of beach.
“OH!” Katara gasped, looking out, taking in what had to be one of the most beautiful sunsets she’d ever seen. The sky was a perfect ombre of vivid pinks, oranges and yellows, reflecting into the waves, where the sun was just moments away from slipping below the horizon. “Zuko, it’s beautiful.” she smiled up at him. He grinned awkwardly.
“Just like you.” he said, flushing a little bit. She chuckled, reaching up to place a hand on his cheek.
“You’re so cute when you get all red.” She laughed, dropping her hand from his cheek to lean against his shoulder.
“Wanna sit?” he asked, gesturing to a large driftwood trunk. She nodded, taking a seat. He wrapped his arm around her as she nestled her head into the crook of his neck. Zuko shifted slightly, rubbing her arm with his thumb. “My mother used to take me here when I was a kid. Before… you know. It was our special place. We would escape my father, Azula, and all the duties and expectations that came with being a part of the royal family for a couple of hours and just be ourselves. She taught me to swim here, and how to skip rocks. We’d make sand castles and she’d always find pretty shells or sea glass to decorate them with.” He said, gazing out across the sand wistfully.
“Thank you for sharing your special place with me.” Katara whispered, turning to face him. “I know she means a lot to you, and I can tell this place does too.” He took a deep breath, steeling himself before turning to meet her eyes fully.
“You mean a lot to me too, Katara.” he breathed, smiling gently as he reached up to brush a stray curl out of her face. She leaned into his touch, bringing her hand up to rest on his jaw, fingers brushing over his scar. They were closer now than they’d ever been before. She tilted her chin up, leaving him time to pull away. He didn’t, and instead closed the distance between them, finally connecting their lips. After just a moment, they drew apart, gazing at each other with adoration in their eyes. They’d been dancing around this moment for ages now. Katara could feel Zuko’s hand on her lower back, pulling her closer. She smiled as their lips reconnected, this time with more urgency. She let out a low sigh as his teeth grazed her lip, and she wiggled closer and closer to him until she was practically on his lap. After a few minutes, they broke apart, resting their foreheads together. Katara laughed.
“I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time,” Zuko smiled, stealing another kiss. “Longer than I’d care to admit. Katara laughed, reaching up to smooth his hair.
“Me too. It really made it hard to despise you when you kept giving me those puppy dog eyes.” he chuckled.
“What, these ones?” he asked, working hard to hide his smile. Katara grinned, kissing his pouting lips and leaning her head against his shoulder. They lapsed into comfortable silence, watching as the waves lapped at the shore, faintly reflecting the pale afterglow.
“I hope I can meet your mother someday.” Katara whispered. “And properly meet your uncle. They seem like wonderful people.”
“I know they’d love you.” He said, squeezing her shoulders and pressing a kiss on the top of her head. “Someday. Once this is all over, and I’ve apologized to my uncle, I’m going to find her. She can finally live the life she deserves. We all can.” Katara squeezed the hand resting on her arm.
“I’m really glad you found your way to us Zuko.” she said, meeting his gaze so earnestly he flushed.
“Me too,” he whispered back, resting his head on top of hers. “Me too.”

A/N:... looking back at it to make sure there's no mistakes it seems more like a Yue x reader then an azula one,,, oops my bad.. also I got another request for her- I gotta rewatch the black sun episodes cause I forgot what they were... also thinking of making those themes for fics again?
Warning(s): jealousy, possessive(ish), azula being azula
Azula x reader: Jealous Princess
Every so often, a certain person-an important person like Royals from other nations visit the Fire Nation, for one reason or another. This time Chief Arnook and his Daughter from the Northern Water tribe were to visit for the time being.
Ironically enough the day they actually came to the palace, neither Prince Zuko or Princess Azula were available to escort the Princess around, so as Princess Azula's personal guard- who was forced to stay back for this possible reason was instruction by the Fire Lord himself to show her around
As the two walked into the meeting, you turned to the Princess who smiled kindly(unlike the usual cocky smirk you see from a certain Princess-) at you,
"So- what uh-" glancing around the freshly cleaned room in thought "where'd you like to go see first?" Looking back at her the white haired Princess tilted her head in thought. While she did you looked everywhere but at her, but you couldn't help but notice she was wearing such a warm outfit as if it was cold out, in such a hot place. You couldn't help but silently worry the Princess would suffer from a heat stroke.
"I heard there's a garden here, I'd love to see it" She spoke, bring you out of your thoughts- with a nod you agreed. You weren't expecting the Princess to lock her arm around yours as soon as you passed her, but you let her hold on your arm as she allowed you to guide her to the garden, unlike the walks with the Princess, she would actually speak to talk to you. Mostly about whatever caught her attention on the way
-
"Ah!" A light happy yell escaped the young Princess, glasping her hands together Princess Yue's face beamed in excitement "A beautiful garden! No wonder my father spoke so highly of it.. shame no one speaks more of it" the Princess glanced around in awe and wonder, watching from the sidelines you couldn't help but smile at her curiosity. The trees blowing ever so softly made you thankful it wasn't the day before-with the wind blowing so hard, knocking things over, today it was peaceful
"Oh! These are Turtle Ducks right?" Princess Yue asked drawing you out of your thoughts, walking over to her, standing beside her yet giving her space giving a thoughtful hum in agreement
"Yes those are a family of Turtle Ducks, I'm not sure their names, you'd have to ask Prince Zuko" nodding her head she went close to the edge of the pond looking down at them
Kneeling down to the Pond, she gently put her hand out towards the Turtle Duck "you know.. I've never seen much of these. Only in pictures" She spoke softly as one swam towards her, "they can't live where I'm from after all" She muttered sadly, putting the top of her hand on the animals head to the shell of it, you watched from her reflection a soft look on her face, one your not accustomed in seeing from a noble-calm and happy.
"Their gentle creatures, just be careful of their teeth" was the only response you could think of, giggling at the response the Princess slowly stood up, the Turtle Duck turning slowly before rushing back to their family, she turned towards you slowly, smiling at you, she took a moment to respond,
Humming in thought "yes just like almost all others being mindful of their mouth." Narrowing her eyes playfully catching you off guard "they tend to bite"
Gulping nervously you cleared your throat "yeah I agree Princess-"
"Yue" She interrupted, the splashes of the Turtle Ducks catching her attention, as they played with one another, looking towards them with a smile, her cheeks looking slightly darker then before
"I'm sorry-?"
"Call me Yue. I think it's appropriate since we're friends now" She interrupted yet again, Looking back over at you with another smile. She seemed to be content with the confused look on your face.
This wasn't something you heard everyday... or ever the Princess not only is telling you to call her by her name, but considers you a friend? Is she for real, she had to be messing you to pass the time- as if she could read your mind she sighed softly
"Yes I'm serious"
"Oh um, alright Yue" you responded slowly in response she smiled brightly, before she could respond though two sets of footsteps came into the garden
"Oh. Hello Princess Yue" Zuko greeted awkwardly with a wave, "we weren't sure where you two ran off too" a awkward smile to match, walking toward the two at the pond, Azula following closely with a roll of her eyes because of him
"Wasn't aware my Guard brought you to this dump though." Azula scuffed in annoyance, having to run across the whole palace to find the guest yet she was here. In this Damn garden of all places, why here?
"Oh! Hello Princess, hello Prince Zuko" you spoke bowing quickly greeting them both "I was showing Yue ar-" the words you spoke blurred, Azula stood confused. What'd you just say?
…Yue?
Did you just call her Yue..?
Azula stood frozen first in confusion- why would you call her that? Did you or did she miss hear? No that's impossible this is AZULA she always is perfect, her hearinf is perfect. Then that meant you DID call her that. then anger, how dare you call her by her first name. Another princess nonetheless, and all you call her is Princess, not Princess Azula. What the fuck.
Spotting her slowly getting angry you cleared your throat bringing her attention to you, her eyes narrowing dangerously, "well, I should go back to training" clearing your throat you bowed to the three Royals before excusing yourself.
The rest of the visit went by quickly, Azula surprisingly not speaking a single word-still hung up on the horrific thing you said,
-
Slamming the door next to her room open she stormed in, eyes looking for someone-her jaw clenched once she caught the sight of you over your desk working. Completely unbothered by her storming in. "You have a lot of nerve, you know that." Quickly looking up from your paperwork, raising an eyebrow at the enraged woman
When Azula came back it was hell for everyone, all the servants she came across ran off with tears. This was not going to be a good night for anyone. She was going to make sure of it. Everyone in her path no matter who they were was going to face her tantrum, but first the cause of it-you.
"What's the matter Princess?" Putting your pen down you watched as the question upset her even more then it was-at least thats what you thought was the reason, slamming her fist on your desk harshly, you sighed, leaning back, trying to recall everything you did and say infront of her to put in her in such a mood. Yet no matter what you tried to recall, nothing should've mad her upset- you did all that you were asked of you
Clearing your throat you cautiously stood up watching her as if Azula was a predator and you were the prey-in this case you were indeed the pray, any wrong move and she'd strike, "I'm sorry Princess but I'm not sure what I might have done" playing it cautious was good, a sigh escaped her, thankfully it didn't seem to upset her too bad- annoy her yes but she didn't look more pissed
"Well. What do you have to say?" Leaning back, Azula crossed her arms, tapping her foot in wait. "Well? I'm waiting. I'm not a patient person." Glaring down at you, giving the same look she'd give any other servants if they mess up.
Putting her hand to her chin as she 'thought' humming in annoyance "So. What your telling me is you have no idea why I'm upset. No idea why what you did aggravated me?" Locking eyes with you she grumbled "sit down" you did as you were told.
"Now. As I was saying. You don't recall oh I don't know entertaining someone today. Some lowly Princess you were on first name bases with? Am I not-" She stopped for a moment clearing her throat "it was quite embarrassing really, referring to another Princess as their name yet not call their Princess's name. And that reminds me how dare she call you by your name? Your mine after all- my guard. Mine. Im the only one that should say your name anyways not some moon obsessed girl"
"Again" She spoke after a moment a content look on her face, closing her eyes she moved to cross her arms
As Azula went on her rant, it all became clear to you, why she seemed more irritated at the garden before you left, why she barged in bad mood, she was jealous you called Yue by her name- it didn't make sense, not even in the slightest. Maybe it's because you call her brother by his name and now this other Princess by hers? You decided to bite the bullet
"...Azula"
Silence filled the room, Azula mid ranting stopped, her mouth open, almost like she was frozen, closing her mouth she stared at you blankly for a moment, unnerving silence and dread crept up, maybe saying her name was a bad choice-? Maybe this isn't what she meant at all
"Azula"
"Again"
For the next couple minutes she had you repeat her name again and again until she was fully content with it. Humming she looked back at you with a smile- not like one you've seen before, "From now on, you will refer to me as Azula" moving to walk out the door with a almost happy look on her face "that's an order"
"Yes Azula"

I love your AUs!
Do you have an AU for 'Ty Lee is the airbender in the iceberg and Aang is Azula's adorable henchperson'? And if not would you like one?
Continued from: [Link], [Link], and [Link].
1. They go to the Southern Air Temple. Li doesn't really want to go. After having been forced to leave the Eastern Air Temple, she didn't really like the Southern Air Temple that much. But it's a lot closer than the Eastern Air Temple, and Katara can't be right about the whole hundred year thing, and she has to go back and face the music sometime doesn't she? So they go. And they find an empty husk. There aren't even any bodies. The dead have been dead so long that they have rotted away to skeletons. It's almost worse that she wasn't close to anybody here, and she can't pick out the differences between what people were wearing and who they might be, it's just a mass of anonymous dead, and she can't make herself care in the face of the fact that this means that Katara is right, and that means her sisters are dead.
2. The world creaks and tilts around her, before crumbling away completely. Things go white. The wind lashes her face. And the next thing she knows, Katara is holding her, and shouting over the wind that she and Sokka will be her family now.
3. Ty Lee doesn't want Katara and Sokka to be her family. She wants her sisters. She wants to curl into a ball and cry. She wants to go to sleep and wake up at the Eastern Air Temple, and for all of this to have been a dream. But she can't have that. She can't. The whiteness spills away, and all that's left is tiredness. Katara leads her back to Floofy, and they fly away.
4. They go to Kyoshi Island. They need food and water, and a place to sleep that isn't an empty temple full of skeletons. They go to Kyoshi Island, and Sokka insults a bunch of girl warriors, then trains with them, and falls in love with one of them, and then the ponytail guy shows up again, and Li is getting the feeling this might be a recurring pattern with him. He starts setting fire to the village on the island, and she's only able to chase him off when she accidentally lands on the Unagi, the sea serpent who haunts the waters around the island. They leave, with supplies and money from the village, and keep heading north.
5. And here is the point at which I talk about how we've gotten a little bit ahead of ourselves, at least with regards to Mai and Ty Aang, because where Li and her friends go next is Omashu, which has not yet been conquered, and Mai is not yet there, and Ty Aang has not yet left to join any nomads. But anyway, Omashu is clear on the other side of the Earth Kingdom from the Eastern Air Temple, and it's not like she ever got to travel when she was at the Southern Air Temple. So back when she was a kid, she never met a boy in Omashu named Bumi.

Ty Lee: Oh my goodness! You really DO have a crush on the Avatar! I never took you for the kind of girl who dates short guys!
Azula: Just shut up! And teach me how you get so many boys to like you!
Ty Lee: No problem! Okay, so, in flirting situations, the key is to have them check you out without letting them KNOW your checking them out. You're just like "Whatever, I'm doing me." and when they try to talk to you, you can play it one of three ways; Dumb, super into it, or nasty. Which way you play it depends on what kind of guy your dealing with.
Azula: This is like my dream and my nightmare rolled into one...
Ty Lee: I'm not gonna take that personally... Now, hair is EVERYTHING. Touch it, move it, play with it... Move it around A LOT. Hypnotize them with it. Gimme a flip like that.
(Azula flips her long hair)
Ty Lee: Okay, now angle your eyes down. Head down, tilt up, eyes BIG... NOW SPARKLE!
Azula: Sparkle?
Ty Lee: Like an anime character. NOW SPARKLE!
(Ty Lee sparkles as Azula attempts to mimic her. But fails.)
Ty Lee: ... Needs work.

“Cut it out.”
Azula is messing with the ants again. She’s a fistful of flames in her right hand. There’s a star-shaped scorch mark forming in the dusty dirt.
“Azula.”
Azula tilts her head, mulling it over with empty eyes.
Zuka stares her down.
She rolls her eyes, flames blowing out with her sigh. “They’re just ants. They’re too tiny to matter, Zuko.”
“Come on,” Zuko says instead, “we’ve got to reach a village by sundown.”
It’s a dry heat today. Rough. Leaves his throat real tickly, parched. They ran out of water about three hundred steps back. He spits in his mouth just to swallow it. Azula is silent as she makes her way back to his side.

De-Aged Azula: Mochi Hunt
Azula dressed in her pajamas looked around the kitchen holding out a small blue orb of flames in one hand while Sparky (her favorite dragon stuffed animal) was held tight in the other. Her eyes darted around the room. Her heart rate quickened as every moment here increased her chances of being caught. But the spoils would be worth it.
Mochi.
The most delightful thing her mom had ever unjustly hidden from her and Kiyi. One night of accidentally eating too much and she could no longer be trusted with it.
In a low whisper she turned to Sparky, “do you know where it could be.” Nodding as if she heard him her eyes turned to the high up cabinet with a lock on it. “Of coarse she would put it in there.”
With a steely determination she set about her work. Setting a chair by the counter to let her climb up, and then moving a few empty boxes so she could reach the lock with her hands high above her head. With a small smirk she remembered what Sokka showed her on lockpicking. The lock was a near perfect copy to the one Sokka showed her.
A moment later she returned with a knife held tight between her teeth. “Of coarse diss is fwhine sarky” she mumbled in response to Sparky skeptical look.
It felt like she was up there for hours moving the knife around. Hitting the little metal parts trying to coax it open. Her arms were starting to get tired from holding the knife above her head.
As she was about to give up and head for bed she heard a click and the shackle fell away, nearly smashing her toe as it hurtled to the ground. The shock caused her to wobble and nearly lose her grip on the knife. A moment before disaster she was able to grab onto the cabinet and steady herself.
“I’m fine Sparky! And we’re in, like I said we will be.” Opening up the cabinet she saw bottles. Row after row of large glass bottles. They type Zuzu, Mom and others drank from but was forbidden to her. “They’re not here!”
She looked around in desperation. No sign of her favorite sweet. Azula had gone through all that effort for nothing! Just as she was about to give up she saw a small box behind some bottles.
With a smile she reached for it. Her fingers just barely scraped the corner. She frowned as she got onto the tippy toe of one foot as she reached over. The hand holding the knife grasped onto a shelf. It was just enough that she could take hold of the box.
It was heavy. Heavier than what she was expecting. Surely that meant it had more mochi than what she was expecting then.
The box she stood on wobbled slightly. The motion only grew as it traveled up her body. Soon she was swaying back and forth. The knife went flying across the room. And the box of mochi hit several of the glass bottles sending them diving to the floor.
Next thing she knew she sent a ball of fire at the rapidly approaching ground, trying to beat it back.
THUNK
Azula hit the ground and rolled away. Looking up she saw the shelf she held onto starting to tip. As if in slow motion one bottle after the next fell off until the entire shelf fell.
CRASH
BOOM
CRACK
Azula just stared in disbelief. The room smelled foul from the alcohol. The box she reach for was split smashed apart to reveal the now dented remains of small silver cups. Shards of glass glittered the entire floor around her.
With a look at Sparky confidently and safely perched on the counter she growled. “WHAT? I didn’t know that was going to happen. And YOU said there would be mochi.”
The door burst opened behind her and the yellowish glow of her mothers flame filled the room. “Oh, my. What happen… Azula. AZULA! Are you alright?”
Ursa rushed forward to pluck Azula off the ground and away from the broken shards of glass. Setting her on the counter she looked at her hands and feet, and tilted her head as if to inspect for damage. “What are you doing here?”
Azula felt herself squeak out, “I don’t know.” Her pain, panic, and fear set in all at once as she began to cry. Her moms eyes grew wide, as she muttered something Azula wasn’t allowed to say.
“Does your head hurt?”
“A bit.” In an instant Ursa lifted Azula up into her arms. Before Azula knew it they were nearly out of the kitchen before Azula tried to leap out of her mothers arms before being held on tight “WAIT.”
“What? Oh sparky.” Going back to pick up the Dragon Ursa checked it for any broken glass before letting her daughter wrap her arms around it.
For the next couple hours Azula sat in the infirmary as the doctors kept on asking her a bunch of silly questions and flashing lights in her eyes. Eventually they said she was fine and her mom carried her back to bed.
“You nearly gave me a heart attack Azula. We still don’t get how you weren’t more seriously hurt in the fall.” Her mother but her lip. “I don’t know what I would do if you were hurt my little dragon. Don’t do that again.” Ursa leaned over and kissed Azula’s on the forehead and tucked her in. “Have this. It should make you feel better.” In her hand she held out a couple balls of mochi.
Azula leapt out of bad and grabbed them both shoving one into her mouth. “Thanks mom.” She said from stuffed cheeks.
“No problem dear.”
Azula laid back in bed as her mom left. The mission no matter how off track it went was a success.

Trick or Treat! Share a snippet, headcanon, art, or vibes with your followers, then pass it on. 🎃
It is long past Trick-or-Treat now (hope you had a fun Halloween, Anon!), but here is a snippet from what was going to be a prompt ficlet for ATLA Hauntober 2022, Hunger, before I got deathly ill from the swine flu and spent 4 months in PT :) Hoping to finish it one day.
---
“What is he even wearing though?” Ty Lee asks from within her reverie.
Azula tilts her head appraisingly. “His grandfather must be looking for his hanfu, that thing has to be at least a hundred years out of style. That embroidery. Screams old-man.”
“Whatever, that guy could wear a magnolia leaf fundoshi and opera face paint and still look handsome.”
“Is that how you like your men, Mai?” teases Ty Lee, casting her friend an impish look. “Does Zuko know about this? Oh, I bet he has a special stash of magnolia leaves and face paint just for you, doesn’t he?”
“La la la,” Azula sings, pressing her free hand over one ear. “You’ll shut up, unless you’d like to wear the contents of my stomach for the rest of the evening.”
Mai rolls her eyes and responds dryly. “Oh, yes, all my men. You know, in my man-harem. I’ll have this one issued a magnolia fundoshi and face paint and induct him immediately.”
Ty Lee snorts. Azula smiles. All three slow to a stop, watching the mysterious newcomer through gaps in the sea of bodies. Just as he is rounding the far corner of the halls with the diplomat, he glances back over his shoulder.

Summary:
Zuko Rokura and Katara Nataok did not get along. The two seniors at Ba Sing Se University’s world-renowned dance program had hated each other’s guts for years. Zuko couldn’t stand Katara because when it came to ballet, she was everything he was not. She was graceful, with fluid motions that belied years of practice. Ballet seemed as easy to her as breathing, but the thing that ticked him off most about her was not her formidable technical skill. Her artistry infuriated him, the way she knew exactly how to tilt her head or place her hands to convey the proper characterization for every piece. Of course, the death stares she sent his way didn’t help. Nor did the time he bowled her over during a particularly difficult across-the-floor combination. Who knew grand jetes could be so dangerous? The Ballet!Katara and Tap!Zuko AU that literally nobody asked for.

I’ll Be Seeing You [oneshot] [completed] [TwiYor]
Rating: Teen
Warnings: None
Summary:
And Yor Briar, well, Loid thought she was pretty much perfect. She was full of contradictions, poised and confident one moment and shy and somewhat awkward the next. Her piercing red gaze always seemed to bore right through him, and if he was a little less in control of himself he might dare to say he had a bit of a crush on her. Unfortunately, that rendered him almost completely useless when it came to talking to her, much less flirting with her.
Yor currently had 7 Stella Stars and 7 Tonitrus Bolts, which was a constant source of stress for Loid. The next award or demerit would decide her fate at Eden: Imperial Scholar or expulsion. The two of them were working very hard to ensure the former and prohibit the latter, hence the daily study sessions in the library. Midterms were coming up, and both Stellas and Tonitruses were on the line.
Serafina Series
Stay Bold, Ember [oneshot] [completed] [no pairing]
Rating: Gen
Warnings: None

Buddy Daddies
Temporary [oneshot] [completed] [qpr KazuRei]
Rating: Teen
Warnings: None
Summary:
This partnership was supposed to be temporary, just like any other. But years of "temporary" slowly melts into forever and Rei can't bring himself to mind it. Not even when a child shows up in the middle of a job, and not even when he knows Kazuki well enough to be certain this little girl will end up more involved than she should be. Maybe things don't have to be so temporary after all...

southern lights: new chapter up!
ft. a rather strange production by the EIP
excerpt:
The curtains finally swing open. A hush falls upon the theatre, the entire audience waiting with bated breath.
The announcer’s voice picks up again, with a strangely ominous lilt. “Yet…little would the descendents of Sozin know…that the biggest threat to their empire comes not from outside her borders...but within.”
“Threat?” Azula echoes under her breath, confused.
The stage lights flare abruptly, illuminating a sparse set with only some crumbling pillars lining the background.
Where is that supposed to be? Azula tilts her head, trying to place the unfamiliar setting. That’s not the palace. That isn’t even anywhere in the capital.
An actor appears, marching intently toward the centre of the stage. He wears a loose red uniform and a dishevelled black wig. When he finally raises his head into the glaring spotlight, it throws his mask into sharp relief.
“What-?”

@tragcdysewn: “  why are you doing this to me?  ” ( xiao lanhua to azula )
azula tilted their head with a grin on their face. “do i need a reason?” she asked with a shrug. “i’m doing it because i have to.” the fire sparked from her fingertips as she veered at the girl before her. “you have to die, ty lee.  and i’m going to enjoy killing you.”
