I don't think we talk about this scene in ACOSF enough when it comes to Gwynriel. This scene happens after the bonus scene and I feel like it is such an important part to pay attention to.

We have Cassian noticing Azriel attention is fixated on Gwyn as she's about to cut the ribbon and 'admiration and quiet encouragement' was shining from his face.

Then, we have Gwyn making her famous statement of being the rock against which the surf crashes in which it made Nesta straighten at her words as if they were a 'prayer and a summons'. Cassian throat even tightened at the words Gwyn spoke!

Next, we have the passage where it says 'the world seemed to pause at the words. As if it had been following one path and now branched off into another direction" and ends with "Right then and there. That was when it all changed."

It goes on to say that Azriel went wholly still, as if he to felt the shift and was aware of larger forces peering into the ring as Gwyn moved.

This whole scene is worded in a way to make us the readers take pause and notice what is going on. This is such a defining moment in the book to as it is when Gwyn cuts the ribbon and becomes the very first Valkyrie in the trio.

The fact Sarah mentions Azriel attention on Gwyn from Cassian POV and how he went wholly still as if he himself felt the shift and was aware of larger forces peering in at Gwyn...

Why is Sarah showing us Azriel fixation on Gwyn not once but essentially twice here in Nessian book if wasn't important? Why have Gwyn be the first to cut the ribbon? Why mention how the world seeming to pause at Gwyn words and end it with that was when it all changed?

What if this is the moment Sarah wanted us to realize that Elriel wasn't going to be endgame and Gwynriel was? That Gwyn had a bigger story arc alongside Azriel and this was that defining moment of change...

I’d like to present my newest little AU project:

A Sign of Affection

Read Chapter 1 on AO3

If you’ve read the manga or watched the anime and recognize the similarities with the fic art, well, that’s very intentional. This Gwynriel AU was inspired by A Sign of Affection, which has had me kicking my feet and squealing for WEEKS. It’s SO CUTE, and EVERYONE SHOULD READ/WATCH it!!!

Summary:

When a handsome stranger steps in to help with a curious tourist, Gwyn assumes that she will never see him again. But she soon finds out that he’s much closer to her small, safe circle than she ever could have imagined. Gwyn is shy, has a bit of baggage, and was born unable to hear. And she can’t quite imagine that someone like Azriel would take the time to dismantle the walls around her heart and invest himself in the effort it might take to communicate with her.

Azriel has been smitten since he saw her big, beautiful eyes and bright smile, and is even more thrilled when she ends up at Cassian’s self-defense class. He wants to know everything about her, and he wants to be able to meet her text for text, and even sign for sign. Using his ruined hands to communicate should have terrified him, but for Gwyn? It’s not even a question.

I’m honestly not sure how updates will go, bc the fic isn’t finished yet. But I was too excited/impatient to post. I’m thinking weekly or twice a week, depending on how much I get written this weekend ;)

idkw elriel crazed stans are constantly saying that Az loves Elain when he was still thinking about Mor up until acosf... then proclaim they don't want Elain to be second best or a rebound....honey, she already is. Mor is currently on Azriel's mind for a few seconds when the mood strikes and then he's back to brooding and not acring on his "urges".

I absolutely love that this Canon event was drawn and showcases Azriel attention being on Gwyn. It's one of my favorite scenes in ACOSF!

"The wind waggled the ribbon again, as if taunting her. Cassian glanced over at Az, but his attention was fixed on the young priestess, admiration and quiet encouragement shining from his face."

And because I can not help myself... here is another honorable canon event of these two when Azriel turns to look at Gwyn (and its interesting this little tidbit is just thrown into the middle of Nesta and Cassian conversation):

"Gwyn let out a high-pitched noise that was nothing but pure excitement. Azriel, on the other side of the ring with the other priestesses, half-turned at the sound, brows high.”

We’re almost halfway! Thank you for checking out this fic, even though it’s out being updated as regularly as you might be used to. I’ve been struggling with the imposter syndrome really hard, and struggling with my self-esteem as a writer (and as a human, really) so I’ve been a little less productive lately.

Here’s a little snippet to tempt you:

Gwyn looked at him expectantly, cheeks dusted in a delicious cotton candy pink. And though it didn’t register to his beauty-addled mind what that meant, the buzz in his pocket made it clear that she was waiting for him to pick up the conversation. With a jerk of his chin Azriel turned, making sure the pretty redhead was at his side before he started walking and fished out his phone.

I said I’m doing great and that I’m impressed with your sign language. I know I didn’t send you videos for all of that, which means you’re either an overachiever or you’re up to something.

With a chuff, Azriel replied, Why can’t it be both?

After firing off the text, he second-guessed his words, and immediately thumbed another message in an attempt to make his intentions more clear.

Maybe I just want to be able to talk to a pretty girl.

The sidelong glance he cast her way caught the redness spreading over her freckles and up to the tips of her ears, which prompted a contented little grin to curl his lips upward.

He wanted to keep making her blush, too.
