Flowers!Sokka

Hey, so remember when Sokka got kidnapped by the panda spirit? What if I was in the spirit world he stumbled across a flower spirit, and got super excited by the flowers; and then flower spirit is like 🪷you get flowers all the time🪷. So when he comes back, there are flowers manifesting around him. Constantly.

Sokka’s excited? flowers. Sokka’s sad? flowers. Sokka’s feeling violent? flowers.

So. Many. Flowers.

Zuko starts tracking them just by flower. Iron is ecstatic over the potential tea opportunities.

Meanwhile, the gaang tries to figure out what to do w all the flowers.

turns out you can sell flower crowns. Also? People will buy flowers.

No one believes the story of where the flowers come from. The flowers distract from the avatar, and from Katara. Obviously flowers need water. Aang’s weird getup?? Clearly a misguided marketing gimmick. Kids will be kids, even when they’re flying around selling flowers.

People defend the gaang when zuko comes around. “They’re just a bunch of kids selling flowers! Go attack someone your own size!”

zuko rants to anyone who listen that the flower kids are dangerous, they have the Avatar, clearly they must be stopped , the flowers must be some wily avatar trick….

except then aang gets captured (does aang getting kidnapped happen before the spirit panda episode? I don’t know, and I don’t care), and when zuko finds him— no flowers.

after they escaped, Zuko ask him about the flowers. “It’s not me, it’s Sokka. ” “The boomerang boy????” “Yeah?”

after this interaction, Zuko spent a lot more time watching Sokka. Clearly the flowers must be something nefarious.

but Sokka seems to like genuinely like the flowers??? He smiles every time some manifest, smiles as he sorts them into their baskets (headcanon: Sokka is on the spectrum and loved sorting things)

why can’t zuko look away from sokka’s smile

when they steal the water bending scroll from the Pirates, they steal a scroll on flower properties too. Sokka devours it, learning everything he can— symbolism, medicinal uses, lore, environment, element connections

soon he and the gaang develop a flower based code. Most discussions about bouquet arrangements? Actually about finding aang teachers and evading Zuko. Again.

(how the fuck does Zuko keep finding them, Sokka wonders, watching his flowers trail off Appa’s back and floating to the land below)

i really should get used to it but i continue to be surprised every time i’m reading a zuko-centric fic and it instead feels like the fic is reading me instead.

i like to read them because i relate to zuko so much, but when some other character says something poignant that makes zuko rethink his entire worldview, it also shifts my entire worldview. and like, i’m just trying to relax and have fun but instead i’m being sent to fucking therapy by these ao3 authors
