squealing about this boop function. I literally made a sound akin to a squeaky toy. it brings me much joy. the cat paws. the animation. oh. oh. joy. i've never felt such joy in my life. in the same vein,
cat fun facts! (cat pics at the end)
Cat whiskers are immensely sensitive, about as sensitive as human fingertips! Cats use their whiskers to feel things around them and their face. Cats can actually get a type of information overload, called whisker fatigue, from their whiskers touching too many things/being touched too often, which is why it is recommended to use wide, flatter feeding + water dishes for your cats, and to avoid touching their whiskers unnecessarily.
Cat Paws have 3 types of Beans (paw pads)! Digital, Metacarpal and Carpal pads. The metacarpal pad is located in the center of the paw, the digital pads are located upon their main four toes, and the carpal pad is located on the staff of the cat's paws/legs (often referred to as their thumbs!) They also have what is called a "dew claw", located on the inner side of the front paws (which is more like a thumb if you ask me.) Cats also usually have 18 toes, but many cats have more than just 18. (usually when dew claws are present on the back paws)
Cat Paw Pads are also absorbent of shock and sound, and can feel texture, pressure and temperature! It's important to make sure your fluffy friend's paw pads aren't overgrown with fur, as this can affect their grip and effectiveness. (Most cats can do this themselves via grooming, but some cats can't!)
Cat's Ears have 36 muscles in the outer ear! (while we humans only have 6). They can rotate up to a full 180 degrees, helping cats pinpoint the location of sounds. Cats can amplify sound waves between 2,000 and 6,000 hertz, and can hear sounds up to 62 kHz, which is 1.6 octaves above humans, and 1 octave above that of a dog. Cats are wonderful creatures! We're very lucky to have them as our companions. If you have a fluffy friend, give 'em a lil pat for me, for being such an amazing creature. And, as a treat, here are some of my fluffy friends. (1 and 2) The late Ms. Mojo Catface, (grey cat in 3,4,5,6) Mr. Spyro Needlepaw and (black cat in 3,5,7) Kitka Meowski, The Russian Queen of Day Drinking Vodka.

Autism & Being Childish?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Autism and Being 'Childish'?
Many traits and things that are common among autistic people are often seen as 'childish' in the neurotypical world.
In reality, these things are incredibly important for the wellbeing of autistic adults and children and helpful in preventing meltdowns/shutdowns/burnout.
They are not something that should be stopped and not at all something that prevents anyone to be trustworthy/ responsible/ amazing at their job, etc.
Also, there is nothing to be ashamed of, because these things being helpful for many are totally awesome.
Some examples
1. having comfort items and being attached to them strongly.
These can be really helpful in overwhelming situations at home, and in public.
2. having 'chidish' special interests.
Special interests, whatever they are, are so much fun and super important for many autistic people.
3. unique fashion rules that might contain 'childish' elements.
For me, it's absolutely true, because in the neurotypical world, colorful things, and cute cartoon figures are often seen as childish, but for me, these are essential when going outside.
4. having a sensory space and playing with toys regularly, like having soft plushies, playing with fidget toys, lining up objects, being mesmerized by pretty lights, etc. Again, these have an important role in autistic self care
5. the autistic joy
The autistic enthusiasm and marveling at the wonders and beauty of the world, and also the way one might express the autistic joy, like jumping around, flapping hands, clapping, etc, these are also mainly associated with children in the neuritypical world, but I take it as a compliment, because for me, these are the probably the best things in being autistic.

Remember that time
Laois dealt with the projection of all his insecurities and disappointments with human society (his parents' uncomprehending disapproval of who he fundamentally was as a person, the schoolmates who bullied him for not fitting in, the colleagues who took advantage of his trusting nature, and the guy who he thought was his best friend turning out to be someone who just sorta tolerated him) by conjuring up a manifestation of his special interest (monsters) to literally crush them?

Certified and iconic Autistic Joy(TM) moment right there. Good for him and his swag.

A Day Of Autistic Joy *For Me* Is...
A soft, grey day where the sunshine isn't too bright or overwhelming
A day of eating safe foods, finding comfort in their predictability and not being judged for what I'm eating and how I'm eating it
Wearing noise cancelling headphones because I want to not because there is so much overwhelming noise that I *have* to wear them
Listening to my favourite songs that I know all the lyrics to and it feeling like I'm inside the music
Being in control of my surroundings, knowing that everything will be in the right place and the bowls and cutlery I use will be clean and not moved around by someone else
Watching Halloween films and spooky/magical TV shows no matter what time of year because they are one of my special interests
Reading a book and not having to re-read the same sentence over and over because my executive functioning hasn't been depleted
Going on a walk which doesn't overstimulate me and being able to stim without being stared at by other pedestrians or people going past in their cars
Sitting in rooms that are lit by soft, side lamps rather than harsh over-head lights
Watching a video from one of my comfort youtubers whilst savouring my favourite flavour coffee and drinking it from my favourite mug which is just the right size and weight
Please add your ideas of autistic joy in the comments, I need some positivity in my life right now

am i the only autistic person who has had an affinity for walking in circles their whole life ? i can walk in circles for HOURS listening to music and thinking about my special interests or just life, i’ve also been known to forget myself and start doing it in public if i’m really happy or if there’s a lot happening in my brain. it’s sort of a way to stim but it also helps me keep my train of thought, i think it’s kinda the same idea as fidgeting with fidget toys but like .. my whole body.. also if i get REALLY excited i’ll do big jumps while running in circles 😭 i know it’s common but does anyone else do it this much ?
