how do you clone a fey? that's trick question; and fey love those!

@the-navistar-carol (<333) brought up a good point while I was talking about my changeling danny au with her -- Dani! How would she exist in this au? Danny's a changeling - a fae. How would Dani, a clone of him, be created? How do you make a fey? Not through any means that Vlad is doing; you can't make a fey through unnatural means, considering the Fair Folk are nature. And Vlad's not a fey himself -- he's a halfa, even if he could make a fey, it's not in his best interest too. He's a powerful ghost, but even the weakest fae can overpower the strongest ghost. He won't want a clone of Daniel to be more powerful than him.

(In a three tier hierarchy it goes Ancients -> Fae/Mythos -> Ghosts. They all live in the Infinite Realms, but on different Planes. The fae live above the Ghost Zone in the Fey Wild, while the Mythos live beside the Wilds or down in the ghost zone depending on where they are. Places like the Frozone, the Athens Acropolis, and other such large islands climb throughout all three Planes.)

(While Ghosts can travel into the Fey Wild, its generally advised against as the ectoplasm tends to manifest differently there due to close contact magic. It can make it rather disorientating for a ghost, and as human spirits, the Fae living there would jump them faster than they could blink. So unless you're willing to play mind games with 'steal thy name eat thy face' fae, most ghosts keep out of the way of the Wilds. Fey can travel down into the Ghost Zone, they just don't bother.)

That's of course, not taking into account if Vlad even knows Danny's a fae himself. Vlad doesn't ring me as someone who really cares much about ghost culture or the going ons of the GZ. He might be aware that fae exist, but the moment he realizes he can't use them for personal gain he just doesn't bother with them. The risk is greater than the reward, and he'd rather not get eaten. But lets assume he's aware by now that Danny is fey, and has to take that into account while cloning him.

So, how does Dani exist? Good question! Honestly; i'm not sure. She might not exist at all, or if she does, she's more halfa than fey. Vlad would need a lot of human dna and ectoplasm to balance out all that fae magic. He manages to steal DNA from Jack and Maddie to do it, and since Jack's fey ancestry is very dormant its much easier to use alongside Danny's DNA.

In turn, it results in a little girl whose more human-ghost hybrid than clone. With that little extra boost in fey magic making her not a fey, but still relatively powerful. Dani is less of a clone and more of a lab-grown little sister. It's a rather tedious, complex process that has Vlad tearing his hair out trying to figure out. But he does eventually figure it out.

#galarian slowpoke #picture this. this was the first pokémon revealed from the new DLCs for pokémon sword and shield. the pokémon company #up until this point‚ has never done DLC for a pokémon game before. you‚ having been jaded by shitty DLCs for other games in the past #now have a distaste for the phrase‚ and imagine this can't be good. then‚ in their teaser for the new DLC‚ they add a little event #into the game where they reveal one of the new pokémon that is going to be added in the DLC #and it is a galarian form. that is identical to the original pokémon. but with a yellow head #are you imagining it. now how fucking disappointed are you. how little faith do you have in that DLC that it's going to be as good as it wa #for the most part‚ the pokémon company has demonstrated that they do absolutely excellent DLCs. proper expansions #basically an entire other game on top of the game you already have. and they typically take up the release cycle of a full game #scarlet/violet's especially. WONDERFUL dlc. i never really properly finished the crown tundra just because i was so late to the party #because i avoided buying the dlc for so long because of this experience that i've just described to you #that by the time i bought it and played it‚ it was just because SV had been announced and i wanted more pokémon to tide me over #and i never finished it. one of these days‚ i'd like to go back and finish it‚ but i'm playing through pokémon xd gale of darkness right no #and i prefer to play. one game at a time. and i don't know when i'll ever really get back to it #or if i'll ever get back to it! IIRC in the DLC, during the necromancy/human (?) transmutation plot, Rhea mentions the Chalice cannot return a soul, less a body?

(JP!Rhea specifically says the Chalice cannot return the soul of a human (人の子 ? Child of Man?) Is she implying the Chalice can return the soul of a Nabatean - but refused to do so because the price was too high?)

Of course Agarthan Tech is supposed to be rad and all... Nemesis was "sealed" after Tailtean (uhhh) somewhere by Rhea (re-uhhh) but then the Mole People put him in their freezer (Re²-uhhh) without Rhea going ballistic (Re^3-Uhhh) and now he has thawed?

I don't know which endgame has more plotholes, SS or VW.

Anyways, Rhea thought Nemesis could return because he has the Crest of Flames (zombie!Supreme Leader when), but what about the Dudes?

Claude tries to talk to them (funny how Dub!Riegan makes a sound, but JP!Riegan is silent and only breathes) but comes to the conclusion they're just puppets - so what, are they reanimated corpses but without a soul (unlike Nemeis who kept his because of the Crest of Flames)? So what animates them? A titanus microchip inserted in their brain?

Hmm...

Now that I think about it, in Nopes, Thales said Crest Stones are the essences of a Nabatean - so if they put a Crest Stone on an animated corpse (like the 10 Elites), would it make a Nabatean or a sort of zombified!Crest Beast?

Or what would have happened in Thales'n'co tried to animate Sitri's corpse? Would it have worked like it did for the Elites (tfw Aelfie's plan sucked he should have sided with the Agarthans) but since Sitri's heart (and essence?) in within Billy, she would just have been a corpse? Or it wouldn't have worked at all?

They missed the occasion to have people fight against figures of the past who were supposed to be dead, like imagine if in VW instead of putting Blaiddyd who doesn't say a thing, they zombified!Dimi and everyone you've killed at Gronder (a bit like FE5, if you kill people you meet them as zombies later on), with Zombie!Jerry being a staple (maybe zombie!Sitri too?) ?

Both FE13 and FE14 played this tune, so why FE16 - ripe with the possibility of making zombies from corpses - didn't play it in turn?

Hmm, the actual title of my job is specific enough that if I put it here this blog will show up when people Google me looking for LinkedIn, so let's not do that

But less specifically I'm working with the government to reduce child poverty on the basis that

It is morally the right thing to do

It leads to better health outcomes costing the NHS less

It leads to reduced crime leading to a safer society

It leads to better education and a stronger workforce

Kids are people who deserve food, shelter, warmth and play

Time and time again we see that meeting people's basic needs upfront is better for literally everyone than dealing with the consequences of letting them be cold and hungry and alone

There are other people in my team who deal with other socioeconomic groups, but I'm focused on children in poor and impoverished households in my country.

Just now I'm looking at the support that is already available to parents and guardians and what can be done behind the scenes to make it easier for people to access it and cheaper and faster for the government to deliver it.

I'm working on a very very nice 5yr plan that is very snazzy, and if even 80% of it gets delivered I will be so so so smug about how many kids we've helped for literally the rest of my life

Day to day all I do is talk to people and write PowerPoints, but it somehow weaves together into happy kids

I'm starting to dread (ha) Dreadwolf, partly because Solas is the main antagonist and I have...... Absolutely no feelings about him at all, actually. The best I can summon is a big old "meh". And if they center him (which it seems like they plan to) and make a big deal about whether you want to kill him or redeem him or stop him or join him... Well frankly I just won't care and I'm worried that means I won't have a damn thing to care about in the game's main plot

I'm also worried that his success or failure at taking down the veil will be preordained since that's too big of a plot line to leave up to the player - there just wouldn't be any way to structure future games to account for that player choice. This is obviously a less well founded worry, but it makes it really hard for me to care about the stakes of the game

Idk I'm not trying to shit on people who are excited for this game (I am too, despite the bitching and moaning) but it's really hard to get excited for a game when the one thing you know about it is so completely uninteresting to you

#Also I'm begging bioware to give us new characters blease #Ugh part of the issue is all I can imagine for the game is you do some mission and Solas shows up and is like 10 steps ahead of you or #Whatever and he gives some longwinded speech and you get two dialogue reactions that don't even remotely resemble #What you character would say and then you do that 6 more times and that's the game!#Don't get me wrong a game where the protagonist loses can be fascinating - I think da2 is actually a great example of this #But given the sheer number of iterations this game has gone through (I believe we're on the 3rd full redesign) I'm worried #I'm worried about the game overall and the main story especially #Again partly because I just can't seem to give a shit about Solas. He just does nothing for me #A lot of people clearly do have strong feelings about him but for me it's just “oh. controversial opinion but i dont think the duffers set up byler well, lets be real most of the fandom outside of our echo chamber doesn't think byler is going to become canon. and like idk but i agree that they should have at least broken up mlvn and resolved the monologue issue (preferably not include it even) if they were going for the byler route. same for will's importance or even mike's importance for the plot. removing them from the show's main narrative doesn't make a good case for their importance in the story in the penultimate, esp when they received minimum screentime in this season. it's not the audience's fault to think mlvn is endgame or will or mike are unimportant when the way they've been handled were lackluster and when cali plot.... Was Like That. plus they gave it all to el's character lol. ofc ppl gonna think she's the protagonist when she was the one who opened the gate and created vecna and when mike spends the entire season talking about her. redpill but it's not making much sense here when the narrative is criticized in the byler fandom, acting like the writers did a perfect job in terms of setup is just being wilfully blind atp.

i think people not expecting it is the point though. like yeah it's obvious because when they did the same thing on a smaller scale with nancy's love triangle at the end of season 1 (her spending most of the season with jonathan them bonding and her and steve fighting but then still being together in the epilogue) most people could see that jonathan and nancy were gonna be together and not one person was called delusional for thinking that. but i really think the juxtaposition is the point, it's a queer couple so even with a similar storyline people don't expect it because of heteronormativity etc which is kind of depressing but it's also what's gonna make it happening even better...#imho

for the monologue, obviously i don't ENJOY IT but i don't hate it because i think it's interesting for el? whether you think she believed him or not, whether or not you think she was gonna break up with him at sbp, i think having him tell her he loves her makes it so no one can be like "but if mike had said he loved her everything would've been fine!" i like them going all the way in that sense. i think it's good for us as an audience to have that, this way there's no what ifs. it makes it apparent that their relationship couldn't be fixed by mike saying i love you and also that their fight in lenora wasn't only about mike and about their relationship, like mike never thought she was a monster that was all el, and him telling her that she's not a monster won't fix that internal struggle for her. and it also won't help her grow beyond the monster/superhero dichotomy.

i don't like will and mike being away from the supernatural plot either but yk i do think it's because they're important for the resolution of that storyline and that that's also supposed to come as a surprise. for mike well i don't actually know that he is, but i certainly know will is and i think they did set that up pretty well. he's not in episode 7 but they reveal that the upside down is frozen on the day he disappeared, he's in hawkins for five minutes but the season ends with him talking about his connection to vecna and everyone and their mother is reminded of the fact that will is a vital part of the supernatural plot. people don't necessarily think he's gonna be the key to resolving the upside down and vecna thing for good (no matter what that looks like, i'm expecting it to be both el and will because it kind of is the el show + we'll fix it together + lucas and erica (siblings) being the mvps of the basketball game and the dnd game that has a lot of foreshadowing in episode 1 etc) because el's the one who's always done it pretty much by herself...but it's also never worked. not for long anyway. i would say that like byler (but not as shocking because it's not someone assumed to be straight turning out to be gay) it's supposed to make people go oh why have i never thought of that of course will would be an integral part of the ud resolution this makes so much sense!!! when it happens. and characters also always expect el to be the one to fix it just like they don't expect byler to happen. meta.

and again i don't LOVE mike and will's thing being the conversational roadtrip only in season 4, but i get why they did it like i see the vision. i see where you're coming from and i agree that most people not seeing byler coming isn't necessarily their fault (even though i said it's similar to nancy's s1 triangle and everyone expected it then. nancy never gave steve an i love you i've loved you forever i'll love you forever speech, major difference), i really think it's NOT supposed to be that obvious. even though it is kind of. i get wishing they had broken up mlvn in volume 2 and i certainly would've liked not having to see bylers be called delusional 24/7 but i think mlvn breaking up would've made byler endgame wayy too obvious and if they wanted it to be obvious to the girls that get it only i think they've accomplished that. same with will and the supernatural plot. and everyone is free to not like it still, i just don't think that means the set up isn't good.

very last paragraph. i don't think everything they've ever written is perfect. i don't even think every decision that's been made by the st team regarding WILL's queerness is perfect like (this is another conversation) having noah deny the gay allegations on will's behalf a month before having him say oh yeah he is gay it's obvious is crazy to me it's no surprise that people feel like it's an afterthought and like byler is never gonna happen. even though i obviously disagree with them. fin.

#parenthesis inception #obviously i think the monologue is also interesting for mike and for byler and for will depending on how they deal with it in s5 (can you #imagine hearing your bff that you happen to be in love with tell your new sister who saved your life a bunch of times that he's in love #with her that's bad enough but also that his life started the day he met her which also happens to be about 24 hours after your life change #4ever in the worst possible way like you were fighting for your life in the ud and he makes it sound like #he was having a great time and falling in love and yeah he was #looking for you but also finding himself a girlfriend and that's the thing he'll remember for the rest of his life. you're being mean stop #it wouldn't even be enough in this situation like i would have a very hard time believing that my bff i'm in love with loves me back or #even cares about me at all. but yk i'm not the duffer brothers' oc who knows what they'll do)#el fixing it and it not lasting long is also true of everyone trying to fight the ud with guns btw like yeah nancy is very badass and it's #great that she...likes firearms? idk. idk how to say it but i get that it's a positive thing for her character but at the end of the day #vecna literally walked away lmao like that was not a win #ask

i feel like not enough people use writing fanfiction as a way to like... study and learn? outside of it being more practice and things. like sure, this is for entertainment first and foremost, but for me keeping the writing tone and characterization as accurate as i can to then transform it more into a writing style to create something good just ends up in me like, intensely studying the source material. i don't ever go off of memory i fucking break that shit down, study dialogue patterns and write down literally everything the characters i'm writing for say, observe the structure and themes and tone of whatever i'm looking at, watch and analyze things until i'm sick of them and come out a better writer because of that hands-on observation and because i simply fucking hate when other people go off of memory while writing characters i like ❤️

#talk #like what better way to study something you like than to work within it's bounds for the most part?#i can't enjoy something if the vibes are too off... if it doesn't have the same level of cartoonishness...#same reason why a lot of fan characters are uninteresting to me #if i can't make things look straight out of the show i don't see a point #i've become such a stickler for canon EXCEPT for when i think i can do better (often)#sometimes i definitely need to make vibe adjustments but i can't imagine straying too far from things unless i'm being artsy on purpose #definitely a lot of reslly great more transformative stuff don't get me wrong. lots of ways to do that right #cus i think something being really cool can easily outweigh accuracy #just as everyone has their own style #but for the most part i like to color within the lines #it's weird though because i'm always a lot looser when looking at other people's drawings and things #like i love a good shitpost but for some reason writing just isn't made for that to me #i just feel like for a lot of people it's more just playing with dolls than creating art #which is fine! but i'm too much of a perfectionist for it

-Remembers how T’Pring looked as she watched Spock & Chapel vanish into the bathroom together after seeing them kiss on the bridge (which she knew was for a mission and didn’t hold against them but perhaps she could sense something there since they do have feelings for one another), maybe attempting to calm herself and her suspicions as she’s left alone again (and later finds she’s been left out entirely this whole time) and how she doesn’t know that Spock almost told Chapel he loved her then and there, with T’Pring in the other room waiting, and how Amanda and Sevet both think she could have more confidence in herself and how T’Pring thought that she and Spock were in this together (her holding his hand, subtly letting him know to pour slower so the tea flowers would bloom correctly, a whispered ‘well done’, the ritual is over mother) and how mere hours after she expresses to Spock how she feels: Like he doesn’t trust her, like he doesn’t care to include her in his life, how she’s trying her best to show him that she will accept him wholly, how she wants to be his partner instead of an adversary or an obstacle, after all this he’s found Chapel within the hour and is kissing her.-

#I've seen people say 'it's not technically cheating because-' and once you've hit 'technically' in MY opinion it's pretty much cheating #'taking a break' isn't synonymous with being able to kiss/have sex with other people - that's something that needs to be discussed #in my opinion...BUT ALSO.
