Team Jacob thoughts:
I think because loyalty and abandonment are my big issues. I can never choose Edward(among other obvious reasons). If you want me to be your immortal vampire wife you better let me bring my whole family with me. Like the Cullens are not a family to me. And when it came down to it they followed Edwards lead and abandoned Bella. At least the wolfpack (before smeyer ruined it) felt for the most part like a family to me. The whole la push tribe felt like a family. The Cullens just feel so perfect and cold. Empty. Fake. A fake family. Im sorry but Edward is not enough for me to give up everything for. Not even remotely.

So I finished New Moon as part of my twilight re-read, and... I kinda violently dislike the Cullens now? And I am absolutely 110% on Charlie and the Wolves side. Long ass rant below the line.
Bella gets a papercut at her 18th birthday, and is about to be murdered for it. Edward is completely 100% right on the car-ride back that if she went to Angela’s house or something, this shit wouldn’t have happened. So at first it’s like “oh good, Edward realizes this is very bad for her, since he does love her, he’s going to make the selfless choice and leave.”
And then this motherfucker manages to find a way to do in a selfish-ass manner. He barely says two words to her for DAYS and tells his entire family to skip town without saying ONE WORD to this girl whose grown very attached to all of them - especially Alice. Apparently she wanted to say goodbye but Edward decided it’s better this way. Now... it’s easy to just be mad at Edward for that, but no. I’m furious at all of them, Alice included. She could have ignored Edward, told him that’s a dickish move, and said goodbye in person, or SOMETHING. Like Charlie says SOME WARNING WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE.
And then Edward, Mr. “Don’t go into the forest please, it’s dangerous” decides the best way to break up with Bella is to... bring her into said forest when breaking it off and leave her there. He even takes the fucking time to forge a note saying where Bella went - maybe because he knew she’d end up on the forest floor like that? Edward... what the actual fuck? No really, why not break up with her in her BEDROOM where she’ll lie in her bed, be safe... this is just... dude... wtf.
Bella is then depressed for MONTHS on end, and Charlie is doing his fucking best. Unfortunately Bella never did get to have a slumber party with Jess and Angela, honestly - I think that would have helped so much. She spent so much time being depressed, feeling there was a hole, etc. and never got to the stage of being angry - furious, at all of them. She wouldn’t have needed to give details, she could have just gone on a tangent about the literal leaving-her-completely-out-of-the-blue, while Angela nodded and Jessica fist-pumped like she’s at a fucking rave. I was robbed, robbed of this possibility. Rather than go through that kinda healing, she basically ignores all her friends.
And I think Bella was honest-to-god enthralled. She refers to it in Twilight as Dazzling, and we see that vampires have this uncanny ability to persuade someone - nurses, waiters, teachers, etc. whether they are conscious of it or not. I can’t help but think that when Edward decided he was going to talk to Bella, try and date her - he enthralled her (whether he knew it or not), and that’s why she just can’t get past it. She should be furious at him, but she isn’t.
Bella ends up spending time with Jake - at first she’s kind of using him, she wants the motorcycles to get hallucinations of Edward, which - Girl, get therapy, please. But over time she really grows fond of him, they become best friends, and I can actually see her falling in love with him. I know Meyer clarifies on her website that she did fall in love with him in New Moon, and I can fucking see it.
At first she tells him she doesn’t share his feelings, but then she says “Maybe I could” and compares him to Paris - I don’t like that she’s seeing him as 2nd choice, but it’s clear that she does love him. He is her sun, he makes her feel whole again, she becomes a “wolf girl”, standing there in her dream beside Emily, another “wolf girl”. He puts his arm around her, holds her hand, calls her “honey”, others say she’s his “girlfriend”, and she doesn’t decline it. Then Mike straight up asks “are you dating him?” and Bella answers “not in the technical sense”. I’m sorry but... an answer like that is... she loves him, but is afraid to move on. She even then almost does - they almost kiss in his car when Alice shows up.
And of course... Bella, enthralled as she is, decides to go to Alice. Personally, if my 18-year old ass had been in that car with Jake deliberating “shift or get her to safety” and I saw Alice’s car, I’d have been like “Wait I know that car! Yeah let’s get the fuck out of here!!!” and held my middle finger to the window as he sped off. Like you really want to go see this “friend” who straight up ghosted you for months? Naw, not me.
Jacob, despite being treated shittily, is more than understanding. I think the wolves are immune to enthrallment, and they can see it for what it is - so they try. Jacob comes back, he tries to talk to her, and they again, nearly kiss - it’s so close. But then shit happens, and oh no, Edward’s gonna kill himself because he’s a fucking drama queen.
Bella, feeling responsible decides she must help. So she ditches Charlie, ditches Jacob, and runs off.
When she comes back with Edward in toe? Oh.my.god. the rage, the seething from Charlie, like... I get it. I feel it. I side with it. Charlie straight up asks like... how dare you show your face? And no really, how dare he? Dude ditches town with no word, leaving Bella an absolute mess, then he brings her back after she ran off suddenly. Like from Charlie’s POV he’s gotta be thinking “Billy is fucking right, fuck this family.” Charlie then tries to forbid Edward from being in the house or seeing Bella, and she says no - obviously, being 18, he can’t make her do anything - but he’s concerned, and honestly, I’d be fucking concerned too. Her behaviour is irrational af from his POV.
When Jacob shows up at the end, he isn’t even aware that Bella had been trying to call him. He thought Edward was controlling her movements - and again, it’s easy to see why he thinks that. From where he’s standing, Bella is enthralled, and is acting extremely irrationally. He’s trying to protect his best friend from what he sees as an obvious abuser, and the only way he knows how is to get her in trouble with the motorcycles (kinda odd to me that Charlie would ground Bella that specific way instead of letting her go to La Push, you’d think Charlie would be driving them together there frequently, but I digress).
Jacob is sorry to get her in trouble, but he’s a 16-year old boy, and he’s doing his best. Then when Bella reaches out to him - Edward actually, literally, holds her back. How, exactly, is Jacob supposed to interpret this beyond Edward controlling her, even where she isn’t enthralled. Of course he’s pissed off.
Of course all the wolves feel so strongly against the Cullens. Who found her on the forest floor, the dangerous-ass forest floor after Edward left her? Sam. Who was there for her when they weren’t, making her feel like a person again? Jacob. Who protected her from a vampire that the Cullens, as a collective, should have had the fucking brains to realize would absolutely come to Forks? The wolves. Who is responsible for these literal children shifting? The Cullens. Who has a ton of money and could easily do just about anything they want and decide to buy like 6 expensive cars and live in a mansion, hoarding their wealth? The Cullens. Who are immortal colonizers that damn well know what living there does? The Cullens.
So yeah, my first time reading it, I was Team Jacob, but I didn’t hate all the Cullens. Now? Nah, fuck all y’all. Team Wolf pack, team Charlie, all the fucking way. Maybe I’ll feel differently after Eclipse, idk, but right now? Fuck them.

Alistair vs. Cullen
It really annoys me when people act like Alistair and Cullen are the same character, when they are very different.
Alistair grew up with child neglect. When visiting Denerim, Eamon kept him in the kennels. At Redcliffe, he slept in the stables on a pile of hay. Alistair also recounts a time when he was locked in the dungeons for a day before someone came to get him out. And of course he also talks about how Isolde despised him, and “made sure the castle wasn't a home.” But is still convinced that Eamon is a good person and he deserved all that. Cullen had a very fortunate upbringing with a loving family who supported him and what he wanted in life.
Alistair never wanted to be a Templar; he was forced into joining the Order by Eamon. He is vocal about how much he despised this, and considers Duncan recruiting him for the Wardens as “saving” him from them. The only thing he says he enjoyed about Templar training was the educational component, which he did not receive previously. Alistair was a poor recruit because he frankly did not want to be there, and therefore did not take it very seriously. He saw practices like the Harrowing as horrifying, and deepened his dislike of being a Templar further. And as time goes on, he becomes even less of a supporter of the Order; he outright says Meredith is the biggest threat to Kirkwall in Dragon Age II, if made king of Ferelden. It was always Cullen’s dream to be a Templar, and would even force his younger sister to “play the apostate” for his “training” before being recruited. Cullen was an enthusiastic recruit who considered Templar training “all that he had imagined”, and “did not hesitate” in taking his vows. Even the Harrowing did not waver his devotion to the Order, which by Dragon Age II becomes downright fanatical and tyrannical, practically worshipping Meredith. (Though this was later attempted to be retconned in Dragon Age: Inquisition… just as poorly as all the other retcons in that game, taking the path of “just pretend he never said and did all those things!”)
There is a lot of dialogue from Alistair about how much he dislikes the Chantry. Cullen, on the other hand, is extremely faithful and the only criticism he ever has about the Chantry is that they don’t treat the Templars well enough.
Alistair has a good sense of humour—in fact, it’s one of his biggest coping mechanisms. Cullen wouldn’t know a joke if it hit him in the face.
The player can disagree with Alistair on every turn. He is presented as sometimes being right, and sometimes being wrong, like most people. (Side note: more than that, you can be downright verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive to Alistair. Holy shit, I didn’t even realize how bad it can get until reading through the dialogue in the toolset, because I’ve never picked those options in game. I was honest to god flabbergasted and very uncomfortable through much of it.) The player rarely has the chance to even mildly disagree with Cullen. On the rare occasion you do, the dialogue is painted as if the player is being an unreasonable asshole, and he never even addresses what they say. (Example.)
The only reason I think people are capable of mistaking them for another is because fandom likes to donate Alistair’s personality onto Cullen. That and the the ever-frequent whitewashing of Alistair doesn’t help matters. But I’m not even a Cullen fan and I think it’s a disservice to both of them to act like they’re just Alistair and Alistair 2.0, honestly.

EVERYTHING we love about bella is stripped away by Edward and vampirism. Her clumsiness, her blush, her brown eyes. The way she loves the sun and Arizona. She loved to cook and now she will never eat again. She hated the cold and now she is cold stone. Edward discards her truck and replaces it with a brand new Mercedes’ she didn’t even like. Which always felt like symbolism to me. Some may see it as an upgrade, as a nice gift… but Bella never wanted it. Think of how EXCITED she was to get that truck and how uncomfortable she was then with the Mercedes. If Bella wanted an upgrade, SHE SHOULDVE PICKED THE CAR. But no.. Edward literally just DISCARDED IT. Bella never liked flashy things or parties but now she’s subjected to that forever.
I think it’s fucking insane that people will say theyre Team Edward cause they’re not “anti-choice.” What did y’all read bc….. what. Just because Bella chooses to be a vampire? To die? She was OBSESSED with the easy way out. She was obsessed with Edward cause they were trauma bonded and she had such horrific self esteem. Just cause Bella chose to be a vampire doesn’t make it a good thing. It is a tragedy and always will be to me. Unless you never gave a fuck about her as a human I suppose. 😗✌️ Bella is an unreliable narrator and was under vampire thrall. Bella was severely traumatized by Edward and felt worthless as a human. Bella had a chance to grow with Jacob and she WOULD HAVE. But she would have PTSD that she could work through. You may be like “she would’ve never gotten over edward.” Yeah she would’ve and she would’ve realized that him haunting her was all Stockholm syndrome.
I’m not “anti choice” for acknowledging Bella’s choice was the wrong one. ExB’s relationship ruined lives, killed people, put the wolfpack through literal HELL and eventually enslaved the wolfpack to them. All for “love” LMAO! It wasn’t love, it was obsession, bloodlust, trauma bonding, low self worth, co dependency.
Anyway. I started a Breaking Dawn rewrite fic where Bella realizes all this shit and heals.

I've been thinking about the templars lately. they were promised honor, virtue, told that they would be charged with protection of the innocent... And then those same people are systemically exploited and abused, abuse others because they're taught to regard everyone else as either sheep who need to be lead or potential threats. Never equals, except in their brothers/sisters-in-arms. They act as the guard-dogs and military arm of an entirely different organization that they're only a functionary member of but have no governing say in. Even the chantry aren't their equals- they function as the templar order's supervisors! And all this isolation and closing of ranks ends in disability, addiction, death, and abandonment by the system they spent their bodies in service of.
To top that off, retaliations against them just confirm the paranoia they were taught to embrace. It's probably a long hard road to get out of that hole.
Like, listen. the dichotomy of mage vs templars is a satisfying and easy one, but the system is tearing them apart too. have you ever heard of a retired templar?
at the end of it, mages and templars need to unite against the real threat. the chantry.

Not engaging in bg3 discourse BUT everytime people find out an actor is shitty they always go to “oh the character sucks now” like I have really bad news for you but be prepared to be disappointed in every actor because you’re setting yourself up for that

If a version of Midnight Sun existed for each following instalment of the Twilight series (New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn), what do you think they’d be called/what would you call them and what (new) scenes would be in them?
Anon, you speak my greatest dream. I want this in my life. If no one else does, then I am the sole person who does. If there is not one person who wants this, it means that I have died.
I need this.
But for now, I can only imagine (and no doubt fail miserably to what it would be in actuality).
New Moon
The thing is that Meyer would also want to call this New Moon for the reason that she called it New Moon for Bella: this is a book about hopelessness. Edward leaves, Bella's soulmate, she literally cannot survive without him and this book is her discovering "oh, yeah, I literally cannot survive without him" (and making friends with Jacob but let's be real Meyer was never that into that).
It's a book where the moon, the light, is gone.
For Edward, we have the same narrative, he tries to leave Bella for her own good, fails, has a miserable time, and comes crawling back only to find that he's made everything worse.
But because Edward is more dramatic, and to thematically work with Midnight Sun (named thus as Bella is the unexpected sunlight in what should be the darkest of Edward's nights) we have Polar Night which is the phenomenon opposite of Midnight Sun where instead of the sun never setting at all we have the night never ending.
As for what would be in it. My friend, my beautiful friend, everything would be in it.
We'd get the scene where Edward bullies his family into leaving, many of them having reservations, and then steals all Bella's photographs and tries and fails to steal the stereo out of her car. We'd get scenes of Edward fantasizing about Bella marrying and holding hands with MiKe NEWtoN and it being entirely too much for him. We get all of the birthday party, period, which from Edward's point of view would no doubt be insane.
We have Edward so fucking depressed that he feels he's bringing the family down and chooses to leave on the vague pretext of catching Victoria. Then he doesn't catch Victoria and loses her in Mexico but is so depressed he just keeps going south until he hits Brazil.
Where he stays, and per what he says to Bella (which is undoubtedly not the entire truth) he was fucking miserable and did nothing for months. Did he have a Hallucination Bella who told him not to eat human food because it'd make him sick? Did he write a rock opera about Bella Swan only to realize it didn't live up to real life and burn it in a fit of despair and anger? What about the family calling to check in? We know that happened, Rosalie could reach Edward and he answered, so did they just call and quietly try to ask if Edward's coming back home or not? You know? Anytime? Edward?
And then of course his pleading for death with the Volturi, being told no, planning his elaborate massacre-suicide before settling on good old suicide without any murder and Bella being alive and that whole debacle from his point of view including "OH NO OTHER MAN MOVED IN" when he realizes Jacob's... kind of... a thing...
Everything would be new in part because we see so little of Edward and given the insanity in Midnight Sun that was never in Twilight I can't even guess to what Edward got up to for months in Rio.
It could be fucking anything.
Eclipse
Or "Edward did a bad thing and is now very nervous" the novel. As for what it's call, this is less clear as we have to go with the sun/moon themes here, and Eclipse is already taken. If we're allowed weather related events maybe "Eye of the Hurricane" as there's a storm out there and this book is about Edward barely holding his shit together. This is his nightmare scenario in every way.
Bella has a new love interest, a friend she believes is platonic who is very interested in her, and worse, Edward actually does admire and is hands down in Edward's opinion the better man for her to be with. Bella's changed when he was gone and is now an adrenaline junky, what else about her has changed? How much did he miss? She's involved in werewolves who all hate Edward, for good reason, and want her to leave him, for good reason. Edward has discovered that he actually can't leave Bella, Alice was right, even though he wants to be that strong desperately. Bella got the family to agree to turn her and they'll do it, Edward's barely gotten her to agree to be turned by him instead, but she's hemming and hawing about marrying and committing to him and she wants him to bang him (which will likely lead to her death)
Edward is straight up not having a good time, bro.
So, we'd get Edward's insane plans to keep Bella and Jacob apart, his meeting Bella in the road after her looking like he'd love nothing more than to pull The Terminator where he chases her car down. We get Edward's increasing nervousness that Bella "wants to be with him forever" but "doesn't want to marry him" (which for Edward, understandably as he doesn't have Bella's background, is something that just doesn't compute). And there's Jacob, kissing Bella, warming her up at night, thinking very dirty things when Edward's sitting right there internally screaming.
And of course, offscreen things with the family, likely venting about the Denali who are leaving them to die because they won't let them kill the children Native Americans, wondering if they're all going to die in this fight, even more of the tent scene with Jacob (which I'm sure, somehow, I'm sure, got very homoerotic in there). Probably sobbing to Alice "I fucked up" and then hating Rosalie BECAUSE THIS IS ALL HER FAULT HISS HISS.
And of course, what we know he sees from Bree and perhaps the discussion with the family that Bella never got to be privy to.
And I imagine a lot of fantasies of Bella pregnant with Jacob's beautiful babies.
Breaking Dawn
I'm going to bow out for this one too, Meyer would want to name it that. Maybe we get "Hailey's Comet" or something, in that Edward has related Bella to a comet streaking across the bleak sky of his life and this is him learning to accept to be happy and perhaps good things are allowed to happen to him.
But anyways.
I mean.
We get Breaking Dawn.
We get Edward gearing himself up for sex and asking the family how to bang a woman. We know he did this. Canonically he confesses to Bella, in the weirdest manner possible, that he asked his entire family how to do it (and it made it clear that Carlisle didn't really approve and was pretty :/ and "don't do it" about all of it). We get the family probably watching Alice like hawks because they're waiting for her to tell them if Bella lived or died through intercourse. We get Edward interrogating the maid in Portuguese and god knows what they even said to one another but it had to be wild.
We get Edward planning Bella's abortion, the betrayal by Rosalie yet again, and then more planning of her forced abortion with Jacob and his opinion on Jacob turning from "respected rival" into "my only friend".
Then we get Edward's complete flip on Renesmee which must have been... I don't even know. But he'd be thinking she's the spawn of Satan before that (in the most Edward manner possible) and then that she's Jesus after that (in the most Edward manner possible).
Then of course there's "my son, Jacob" and honestly probably fantasizing about an adult Renesmee pregnant with Jacob's beautiful babies. Let's be real here. and just...
Look.
I can't predict this.
What we saw of Breaking Dawn was already insane and this would only be more so because it's Edward. There's so much we don't see as Bella pays 0 attention to the other vampires and to the family at large and Edward would just...
I have no idea.
It would just be madness.
TL;DR
I need this.

best article I've seen about Cullen
They are not even remotely being shy and im loving it
He is part of an army that regularly tears children from their homes and lobotomizes anyone who doesn't fall in line. He is treated better because he is not them, and it’s a system he is complicit in. There is nothing cute about his crush on one of his inmates.

Honestly, the whole tortured soul character trope, like Rhysand, Azriel, Edward Cullen, is just sooo boring and icky to me. Like ohhh noo i willingly did all these shitty things but it was for the greater good but I don’t wanna corrupt you blah blah blah. Do fucked up shit man. Don’t act like a weirdo about it. Just be nice to to your wife. Like Lorcan. Or be a sunshine boy with sass, youth, and brains but with a lot of trauma to unpack. Like Lucien.
Don’t be stuck in that weird in between place.

Rosalie says she never loved Edward as anything more than a brother, but is mad when he shows no romantic interest in her.
She gets jealous when he shows an interest in Bella even though at this point she's been with Emmett for about 70 years.
She hates being a vampire, would rather have died, yet she asks Carlisle to turn a dying Emmett for her.
When asked by Edward what she would do if she were in Bella's position and Emmett in his, Rosalie can't give a clear answer. Some part of Rosalie would give up Emmett for a human life.
Rose has very little regard for human life. She only cares about the romanticized human life she lost.
She's about respecting choices, but only if it's a choice she agrees with. Rosalie supports Bella's choice to go through with the pregnancy, but only because it's something she would have personally done. Up until then, Rose has shown very little respect or care for Bella's choices. She tries to dissuade Bella, but never tries to understand Bella's POV.
I love Rosalie, but Smeyer made her so selfish and contradictory that loving her is really hard sometimes.

Okay I have finished Eclipse now, and I think you really could end there and headcanon/fanfic the rest (I’m still gonna try a BD re-read, but I remember hating it so vividly that I don’t know if I’ll make it through lol).
So Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, yeah I still think they’re good reads, and there is definitely a lot of toxicity in them to unpack, but in the same way that while Meyer may have officially written a romance - some old texts were “comedies” that we no longer consider that way (but rather, dramas or tragedies). Death of the author, basically - their original intention may exist in their own minds, but we can perceive differently (and frankly, we should).
So here’s how I see the ending of Eclipse: Tragic.
The entire book, Bella seems to be wavering on the idea of becoming a vampire. She knows she wants to be with Edward, and is worried about the Volturi coming to check on her, but she’s afraid of saying goodbye to all the people in her life, and giving up human experiences. She resist the idea of marriage, and then suddenly decides she wants to bone Edward as another “demand” before vampirism. For me, I’m reading it as some deeply entrenched rational part of Bella continues to try and find excuses, an out - something to delay it. Or as I interpret it - there’s a part of her... deep down, that is trying to break this thrall, because that’s how it reads to me, anyway.
She realizes she’s in love with Jacob, and the idea of not being with him hurts her so much she can’t even drive home - but she insists that she “can’t live without Edward” (who is a “drug” to her, a thrally thrally drug...).
Edward offers to vamp her in the meadow, and she says no. Probably because that rational Bella underneath the thrall is still fighting, as it has been this whole time. She insists the marriage will let her have a final goodbye to everyone, and then they go tell Charlie (who I imagine flipped his shit).
Jacob, meanwhile, upon getting the letter from Edward, runs off in wolf-form, needing to be alone. The fact that it specifically ends on that note, instead of just Bella going to tell her dad, suggests to me a tragic end - not a happy, decisive one. The entire marriage/engagement was so... ominous, it doesn’t feel like Bella is actually happy in the end?
Anyway, you could fanfic the ending if you’re a BD hater, and maybe find a way to Headcanon a happy conclusion that works for you.

Why do you and muffin think Edward is gay and not bi?
Because the way Midnight Sun reads, he likes the idea of being attracted to women and thinks that's what he feels around Bella, but what he actually describes is appreciation of an aesthetic as well as desire to drink her blood.

idk.. the way edward talks to bella is so degrading. he really treated her like she was incapable of making responsible decisions (shes not, as later revealed to us but he didnt know that) I don’t see how anyone could like Edward. If a man treated me like that i would avoid him like the plague. If i saw him in my fucking bedroom?? I’d file a fucking restraining order. What the hell makes you think i’d let this disrespectful ass bitch watch me sleep? EVEN IF HE WASNT MEAN TO ME, SOMEONE, A STRANGER, COMING INTO MY BEDROOM TO WATCH ME SLEEP IS ALWAYS MEGA CREEPY.

“At LeAsT EdWaRd UnDeRStAnDs CoNsEnT”
You know you guys are talking about a guy who literally planned on murdering her, stalked her before they knew each other, snuck into her bedroom to watch her sleep, stalked her out of town, snooped through her things, made her do things she doesn’t want to do (prom, parties, wedding) disabled her truck, BROKE her truck to get rid of it even tho she loves it, told her she couldn’t see her best friend/true love bc he’s dangerous even tho his entire purpose is to protect humans from vampires and even tho his brother tried to kill her and every single near death experience she’s had is bc of vampires and him. 💀

Greetings loved ones, since I’ve made my disdain for Rhysand well known in the Tumblr ACOTAR community, I’ve decided I might as well come forward and shit on the OG Dark Mind-Reading Evil Male Love Interest.
That’s right Edward Cullen, I’m coming for you.
“Really Eris? Making Twilight posts in 2024?” I hear you all asking me in unison and to that I have to say “Fuck yeah!”. I’ve been hyperfixating on Twilight lately, so this is the perfect time for me to reach a new all time low.
Besides, my hatred for fictional men is what brought you to this blog. I’m just giving you what you came here for, so stay tuned!
