you enter the forest, being placed somewhere on the map below.

you do not know where you are, having nothing to base this on besides which tree type you are surrounded by and whether or not you have a water source nearby.

the game begins with an animal interaction, where you may start off with either a positive, negative or neutral impact on your animal points score (something which will become relevant as you progress).

as you continue, you will traverse in a path along the forest. you cannot control which direction you walk in, because each direction is the same to you. north, south, east and west are concepts you have no grasp of in this land. only forward.

it is possible that eventually you will come across another player.

animal points represent a morality score more than a currency within this game, though you are able to exchange animal points in certain ways like a currency.

in functionality, your animal points determine whether certain actions - ones involving the forest's wildlife - are successful or unsuccessful.

you begin with an animal point count of 0, and depending on the choices you make, your count can either go up (into the positives), down (into the negatives), or stay at 0. the result of your first animal interaction begins this, but you can always turn back later and have your points progress in a different direction.

I was walking a dog, except it wasn’t my dog, it was Iggy from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. I was also walking him in the Nether from Minecraft. We fell into a pool of lava and died. I had the option to respawn, and when I chose it, I woke up.

It just occurred to me that, as riffs on the classic "wizard with mercury poisoning" trope – albeit ones which take it in very different directions – the Ice King and Patchouli Knowledge are technically channelling the same archetype.
