the issue with hating bigots more than you care about minorities is that it becomes abhorrent to acknowledge that you could do a bigoted thing. so you spend all your time avoiding being called a bigot, lashing out at people who call you out and desperately convincing yourself that they're wrong, and none of your time not being a bigot

"What if I'm not trans, what if I'm choosing to be trans for [list of reasons]"
I am grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking you like a can of soda. If, for whatever reason, you looked within yourself and decided to be trans - you're still trans. We (as trans people) don't need to have an "I always knew" story. We don't need to have the ~magical transsexual gene~. It's incredibly hard for so many of us to figure out why we're trans, and if being trans was always a choice, the reasons for choosing to be trans would be complex. If being trans is always a choice, that doesn't negate that we deserve human dignity and respect for who we are.
It shouldn't matter if you chose your trans identity or not, becayse you still are a person. You breath the same air I do, and you deserve to live how you want, on your terms. You watch the same sunrises and sunsets I do, you are here. I, for one, welcome you no matter what your inner reflections are about your transness. You have a place in this world, you have inherent worth.

Okay I'm a little afraid to post this because of how ridiculous the discourse is right now, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
I am NOT looking to discuss politics or current events on this post.
Can anyone recommend to me reputable, fact-based resources (ideally books, articles, or websites) that can help me learn more about Palestinian history and culture? Pretty much everything I have ever learned about the Palestinian people has been in the context of the conflict with Jews and with Israel, and I would really love to know what is unique to their culture and who they are separate and apart from the conflict. When I've gone looking for this myself I've found: (1) lots of materials that define them as one half of a conflict and only discussing them in those terms, (2) lots of materials that function as Zionist propaganda that erases their history, connection to the land, and unique culture, and (3) lots of materials that function as Anti-Zionist propaganda that demonize Israelis and/or totally erase Jewish history and delegitimize Jewish connections to the land.
I just want to know more about, idk, if they have a specific dialect of Arabic, or the history of their beautiful textile art, their naming culture, music trends, or their olive orchard cultivation. Idk, anything that doesn't involve explosives and bloodshed.
I refuse to accept a political narrative that erases the humanity of Palestinians or their neighbors, but I don't know enough about Palestinians as people and want to fix that.

yaknow i wish people didnt act like having areas of skin that are different shades was a feature exclusive to black peoples hands like, thats a really noticable area so when people get it wrong its pretty obvious but even in white people the palms of your hands are a noticably different color then the back
skin color is not even on literally anybody you are always going to have variations in shades and undertones in different sections of your body and when trying to draw skin more accurately that really shouldnt stop at just using a lighter shade on the hands of ur poc chrs
im white so i cant speak abt darker skin tones that much, but i think that people rlly need to stop acting like stuff like having variations in skin shade is a feature exclusive to them everybody has melinin and its gonna be distributed acrosss your skin differently always and you trying to be more accurate in how u draw skin shouldnt end at instagram info graphics abt how to draw black people better you should be looking at photos and at yourself (even if youre white, black people are not a different species and traits can & do apply to both groups) and trying to notice various features because thats always gonna give you a more accurate picture of things

Something that strikes me as I'm planning on hosting some visiting relatives (BTW if I have any New Zealand followers can you please reblog or comment with details about what type of tea is considered standard or a little better than average in New Zealand?) is how much comfort and joy I've given vegetarian and vegan travelers in the past by just serving them some good tasty normal calorie levels vegetarian/vegan food, as unfortunately that can be hard to come by as a traveler in the US and so several of the people I've hosted were obviously running a calorie deficit because they were struggling to find enough food suitable to their diet.
And, I am not vegetarian! I'm low-key ideologically Not vegetarian! But I also believe that 1. It's immoral to intentionally trick someone else into violating their own morals even if you don't share them and 2. Hospitality means serving people good food that they like and can eat.
I've gotten a lot of shocked responses from people in the past when I would say something like, "This recipe can be made vegetarian/vegan if you swap the meat broth with vegetable broth/swap the cheese for vegan cheese or omit it" and then they'd assume that I must be vegetarian/vegan myself, and not understand why I would care about tracking which recipes could be vegetarian or consider it a valuable thing. Other people have dietary restrictions and sometimes I want to make them something nice to eat! It's shitty hosting to invite someone to Thanksgiving and then have like two things out of twenty they can eat, you know?

tumblr is the best social network because (if you’re using it right) it actually connects you to people with very similar brains, which ime is vanishingly rare in the meatspace. it’s mediated strongly by text (rather than images or music or irl friend groups or whatever) which encourages both the highly confessional culture (your face isn’t attached to it and your coworkers won’t see it) and the ability to find some weird ass community with your exact interests and/or analysis style, who might also be more likely to understand whatever brain problems you want to vent about. I think this is distinct from an echo chamber because it doesn’t necessarily mean you have the same beliefs at all, just that you use the same style of reasoning to defend those beliefs. that makes it weirdly validating and comforting in a way that’s very hard to find irl.

something that’s really been annoying me lately is like… the woobification or demonization of religion. i saw an absolutely brain dead take by someone on instagram saying that abrahamic religions were “toxic” and that people should stick to non-theistic religions.
guess what, the problem of evil exists in every religion! every religion has nuance. there is NO religion that is “non problematic” and that is an absolutely insane thing to ask of any religion or belief or whatever.

I'm sorry but if you convince yourself a) e.g. wow, sure is weird how all the cringe fandom blogs you dislike are coincidentally all zionists! (to pick the most recent example I've seen) and b) this is something to feel smug and vindicated about, then you're the one embarrassing yourself here.

shout out to long haired anime blondes who view expressing themselves through feminine clothing, regardless of gender identity, as the highest form of love.
gotta be one of my favorite genders.

I love that they very rarely use the word "powers" in this show. The Kents usually say "your gifts" (or, occasionally, "your abilities"), which is a subtle choice but a significant and beautiful one, I think.

Does Vic ever get possessive of Sahota's pain in a "I'm the only one who can hurt you this bad" way?
not really
he knows that this sort of thing is bound to happen in their field, so he doesn't really get jealous of pain, but he might be jealous of vulnerability
in the case of the Test Track though, he signed off on it and "allowed" it, so there's no jealousy because he can still tell himself he's the root cause lol

Honestly, I believe that all Cats fans have not just a duty, but a moral obligation to make T.S. Eliot spin in his grave fast enough to generate power for a small country.
