I chose the OP option (because I can't decide which stats I wanna focus on 😭) and I developed a little head canon to explain why my character is good at everything. In his former life he was less than OP. He was one of those people who have potential, but never applied himself, out of a mixture of laziness, procrastination, and a crippling fear of failure! When he died he was extremely disappointed in himself. He always figured that he'd pull himself together in the future, but now he's dead and he never achieved anything he wanted, other than gathering some useless facts (like maybe ancient technology such as the treadwheel crane perhaps 👀). When he got his second chance he decided he was gonna make full use of it. The instant he was able to comprehend the language of the world and was able to read, he'd sneak books and accelerate his education through reading things someone as young as him shouldn't understand. He also would go through physical training, again in secret, and watch the guards train in swordsmanship in hopes of picking something up. Since for years he had little to no responsibilities, and the mind of an adult, he has been able to devote almost all his time to developing his mind and body
TL;DR: my MC went from a procrastinator to a try hard and it payed off

The MC is canon to be "good" from the start, and its up to the player to choose how the MC progresses over time...honestly the best reincarnation works ive seen out there arent the traditional Isekai protag animes, its actually works that deal with a woman being reincarnated or isekai'd. Either a reincarnated villainess trope, or general isekai trope work, the ones with female leads are generally better in my opinion since it usually aint a power fantasy

Someone either here or on Discord recommended this to me, and whoever did so, I love you! This is a weirdly realistic take on the historical figures of the Sengoku period having to deal with this weird girl who appears to have come out of nowhere but knows a bit of practical modern knowledge that helps Oda Nobunaga win some victories. Honestly, i really appreciate how grounded it is for a manga! The truth of the matter is, we really wouldnt be able to do that much if we were in her shoes either lol!
Bruhhhh when i tell you i squealed when i saw how many chapters this has now! Without a doubt, this is my favorite! The MC is hyper competent, she uses her femineity to her advantage and doesnt fight against it like other works do when they wanna show their female lead "isnt like other girls", and shes honestly such a joy to watch running circles around other people that screwed her over in her past life. Read this one for sure!!!!
Another competent female lead how got reincarnated and has to survive death flags by marrying one of the romance options, but the world system keeps screwing her over and its funny to see how she has to navigate trying to romance obviously shitty romance options who sound really hot (like the enemies to lovers trope would NOT be easy in real life lmao) or (the crazy mfer who makes you scared but horni)

AHGHGHGHHHH This is so good!!! Basically a girl has to become the stepmother to children how are close in age to her. She tries to do things her own way at first, but she dies. Alrighty. This is honestly a guilty pleasure, and should really be read after reading alot of villainess or female lead reincarnation manga to basically cleanse your palate with this funny ass story lol. Instead of playing by the rules of society like the previous stories, the main character does "not like other girls" very well and its enjoyable to watch lol! Use it once you get tired of the previously mentioned ones!

She layed her head on the head of the sofa. trying not to burst into tears all of the sudden. "Just let me rest here." Spoke penelope. You stood quiet for awhile.
"Penelope." You finally said, with a closed smile. Your hand reached out to hers slowly. "Thank you" you closed your eyes. Penelope tilted her head slightly. "?"
"For trusting me, you know? I believe in you." Penelope raised an eyebrow. All you did was listen to her, but i guess this was a different day. "I know it must be hard, getting accused of something you didnt do just because your brothers dislike you."
"But in the end, they failed to notice how you became this way" penelope snickered. "...became like what?"

well, i'll get to it then. the rainbow is answered so i'll just do the other two! i will /try/ to be concise but again, no promises.
💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language
considering who's asked this question, i suppose the fun answer would be vibes. and i guess that encapsulates what is the most important part to me---the mood, the tone, the themes they just need to feel right to me. i personally enjoy writing more emotional, character study-esque, introspective fics which is partially from my literature background in literary analyses. don't get me wrong, plot and characters and world-building is fun and all, but i think the emotional crux of the fic is most important to me which is why my tags are less technical or setting-based, and more like 'angst' or 'hurt/comfort' which tends to deal with the emotional gravitas of the work.
i think part of this is done through figurative language, so language is important to me. i think, first and foremost, i'm a poet and that translates to my prose and my fics, which tend to be more poetic, metaphorical filled with grandeur; purple prose if you will.
so yay emotions!

so this is my uber-fave (and only) fiery priest fic that im hella obsessed with right now and i'm soooo close to finishing chapter 4 i just need to power through for a couple hours and i should be done.

these two are what i like to call my sister fics. they're the folklore and evermore if you will. the sidecouple angst in two different flavours. if you've read beware the villainess, the first is like where she finally manages to get him freed, a post canon work, and the second as the title states, is canon divergence and still angsty but more adultier flavoured. more hurt.

manhwa anon - omg didnt expect to get a special cla rec list thank you!! 😭🩷 i cant really describe what tropes are my favorite because i am a total newbie but from the few i’ve read: i also LOVE villainess tropes, esp. those with smart and cunning fl (im currently reading villainess turns hourglass, obsessed with the fl she’s so evil and smart, and not really a villainess but think navier of remarried empress- her brain is just so huge ugh im in love)
another aspect i like is when the story focuses a lot on imperial politics and high society strategizing etc, i find it really fascinating!! basically the heavier, more dramatic stuff, as opposed to light topics & fluffy romance all throughout the story :3
if you have any !!must read!! recs for beginners pls also share, even if they dont fit those tropes!!! 🫶

i've already mentioned my faves i think but i can go a little further. you've already mentioned navier who's a real queen, but when it comes to scheming main characters I can mention:
The Villainess Is A Marionette: the setting is a bit all over the place with the inspiration but the art is gorgeous and both she and her twin brother are schemers and tbh even if he is the villain sometimes I feel like siding with him ahah. There's a lot of intrigue and court factions in it!
The Way To Protect The Female Lead's Older Brother: i am in love with this webtoon, not only the art is gorgeous, everyone in it is kinda insane. The fl doesn't want to be a villainess but has to become it in order to survive and isn't she an amazing villainess? I also somehow really love the male lead, I like when they deviate from the buff guy stereotype, he has a very youthful vibe (and I loved that he was a prisoner of the fl's family at the beginning of the story). I also love the other male lead and I normally despise the second guy very bad, but tbh as someone who read the ending of the novel I personally wouldn't know who I was really hoping to win in the end. Anyway, if you like gothic and a little gory themes and a lot of scheming this is also very pretty.
The Broken Ring: I really like the female lead so much, she's one of my favorite in existence. When you read villainess webtoons, most of them are just normal girls who end up a villainess and conquer everyone with their charm/sweetness, but in this case she is a girl who gets to live her life for the third time and after suffering in both the previous lives she is quite tired and just wants to marry her 'no thoughts in that pretty head' chosen husband and live on her own. There's not that much of a plot with adventures and kidnapping but I love that it has a very mature feel.
The Villainess Lives Twice: if you like the fl of villainess turns the hourglass you will also like her. The plot does sometimes get a little unbelievable but there's a lot of politics and intrigues and going to ballrooms to make connections, I definitely recommend but don't expect a very how can I say refined plot.
I tamed my ex husband's mad dog: I thought it was a little strange at the beginning bc it's one of those adopting a very cute weak teenager and then he grows up to be my knight who loves me and I can't control him anymore damn, and when they meet he's 16 and she's 25, but ACTUALLY I'll put the spoiler after a few lines bc idk how to write it in white so you can avoid it ;;
apparently the guy is a isekai returnee as well? So he was just pretending to be a child after reincarnating?
Do of this what you want. Anyway they're both kinda selfish and trying to use the other for their selfish reasons in the end.
The Princess Imprints a Traitor: this is also one of those stories that are about a returnee who comes back and tries to change the past. She's absolutely not a villainess, but I like how smart she is, how she protects her people, and how she goes hard into politics because the only way to save everyone would be becoming crown princess and changing things herself. Also the plot is very unique, with magic and alchemy and spellbound servants who serve their masters in bed? Although she's too noble so she refuses lol
Isn't Being a Wicked Woman Much Better? I live for people who become a villainess and decide to keep living as a villainess. She's smarter than everyone, she's rich, she has power, I just hope she can leave everyone penniless and enjoy herself forever.
I'll be the matriarch in this life/I shall master this family: she's not exactly a villainess but after returning from the dead Florentia is the most scheming and business savvy 5yo and then 8yo and then 12yo in existence. I've been waiting for her to grow up for two seasons and I can't wait for her to show me what she can do in the next seasons as well. It's more light-hearted compared to everything I've recced until now but I think it's a top read and I love the fl <3

She sets about traveling to the cold, difficult kingdom of his exile to try to convince him to marry her, so that she can give him the happiness he deserves to have after all of the sad events from the book! This comic is SOOOOO sweet, cute, and fluffy-fluff! ☁️

The First Night With the Duke - Starts out with a lot of comedy, but has gotten much more serious as the chapters have progressed, with some intense scenes that I haven’t been crazy about. The heroine completely derails the plot of the novel by being born as a random, unnamed side-character who accidentally seduces the male lead, and no romance between him and the actual female lead ever even has the chance to happen. 😅

The Matchmaking Baby Princess - The heroine is born as a tiny baby princess, who uses her super cute charm to influence the characters around her so that things turn out better for them than the way the novel goes. This one is still fairly new, so the episodes haven’t shown a whole lot about how she derails the story yet, but, it is REALLLY CUUUUUTE!! And has very beautiful scenes of palatial gardens and such. Also obviously the heroine herself is not the one that the romance happens to lol.

His Majesty's Proposal - This one is a bit similar to The First Night With the Duke, with a rando side character getting proposed to by the prince after spending a night with him. A fun twist with this one is that the heroine is reincarnated from a crotchety old woman in her previous life, so she uses all kinds of old person slang (like calling people “whippersnappers” and stuff like that lol) and is kind of rude and grumpy lol.

Every Rose Has a Death Flag - Pretty typical isekai where the heroine is reincarnated as the villainess and knows that all of her ends are bad ends, so she tries to remove herself from the attentions of the prince and the other main characters, but through the process ends up endearing herself to them instead. Good stuff without any weird quirks or gimmicks. 👌

Tricked into Becoming the Heroine's Stepmother - The protagonist is actually one of the AUTHORS of this novel, so she is familiar with exactly what will be happening to all of the characters! She is reincarnated as a rando townsperson though, and doesn’t have much influence, until she appeals to the prince and just spills the fact that she’s the author and knows everything that’s going to happen to the princess (his daughter) in the future lol?! And he believes her?? And employs her to his household in order to prevent any of the princess’ suffering??? Also did I mention that the princess is the most adorable little toddler ever, with fluffy hair like a chestnut? 😭😭

The Male Lead's Girl Friend - Again, the heroine is reborn as the villainess of the story, and attempts to distance herself from the male lead as much as she can (endearing herself to him in the process). Some of the interesting quirks here are that she ships the male and female lead SUPER HARD, and is trying everything she can to hook them up together, but they both only seem to fall for her harder with every attempt. 😄 There is also a cool school/academy setting to this one to set it apart from the others with similar plots, as well as BIG YURI VIBES between the protagonist and the female lead.

How to Survive a Romance Fantasy - This is the most comedy-intensive of everything on this list. In fact, it just kept getting sillier as its chapters went on, and I actually dropped it from my reading list because it wasn’t making me laugh as hard anymore as it was in the beginning.. 😅 In this one, three normal-world folks are reborn in the fantasy world, as the heroine, the prince, and the villainess, and ALL THREE of them hate it and want nothing to do with the plot, so they run away as far from the plot as they can, and are also keeping their identities as the main characters secret from one another. It is very, very silly.

The Villainess is a Marionette - This is for real probably my very favorite comic on this whole list, and can you believe how beautiful the art style is??? The tone of this one is totally different from any of the others here. The protagonist is reborn as a malicious villainess with particularly cruel endings in her future, and she sets about to avoid them by using her power, influence, and wiles to manipulate the royal intrigue happening around her. She’s... RELATIVELY kinder than the original villainess was in the story, and several characters that were her enemies in the original story are endeared to her now, but she’s still got her claws sunk into the royal family’s shady dealings. This is a “bad boss b*tch” kind of heroine lol, and it’s super satisfying to see her come out ahead of the other villains with her crazy 4D chess manipulations.

Sincerely: I Became a Duke's Maid - A super snuggly, sweet, and fluffy story where the protagonist is reborn as a maid during the tragic antihero’s childhood. He is afflicted with a painful curse, and the protagonist, knowing that only more pain is ahead for him, does her best to befriend him and make his youth a little bit lighter.

Who Made Me A Princess - Yet again, a tragic end awaits this princess that the protagonist is reborn as in her childhood, so she uses her cute charm to change the king’s attitude toward her (he was neglectful in the original story). Some interesting original-plot-derails happen in this one, where her innate magic power is much stronger than it’s supposed to be, and she needs the help of a magical pet creature and a very handsome wizard to sustain her life in this world.

Seduce the Villain's Father - This one wins the award for having the most hilarious title in this list. 😆 It’s much cuter and lighter than it sounds!! This protagonist derails the original plot by allowing herself to be kidnapped by the villain’s kingdom instead of the intended character (her sister). She is reborn among characters the generation before the events of the novel, so the villain himself isn’t here yet - but his handsome dad is! And if she can convince him not to marry the woman that would become the villain’s mother, then the storyline is saved! Probably!

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Roads Lead to Doom! - This anime is probably the main “reincarnated as the villainess” isekai that introduced most of us to this concept. 😅 I’ve linked to where you can watch the anime for free on Crunchyroll, but there is also a manga if you’d prefer to read it! While there are many, many comics that use this plot hook, this is the only one that made it to anime form, so it’s like, required watching!

‘Then he can’t find out we want to see Diana,’ Athy thought with the utmost determination, picking up another pink rose.
‘Wouldn’t it be better to get ignored by him, though? I thought you wanted minimal contact with him,’ Athan frowned.
‘I know, but… there’s a lot of pros to this plan as long as we act like Jennette,’ Athy pouted.

‘I’ve had enough of trying to leave like I don’t have a clue,’ Athy inwardly groaned. ‘This is so uncomfortable.’
‘I think you’ve been handling it pretty well,’ Athan hummed, flicking through his book on Siodonna, looking at photography of various sceneries. ‘Especially since Diana would’ve been the best mom if she survived during childbirth.’
‘Ugh, don’t be like that,’ Athy shot him a flat look. ‘She’s not even our real mom, anyway.’
‘I vastly prefer her more than my previous life’s mom, that’s for sure,’ he snorts. Pausing when he hears quiet footsteps leaving the room. ‘Ah. They left.’
‘I’m going to follow them,’ Athy hummed, getting off the sofa and trotting over to the door. ‘Wanna come with?’
‘No,’ he flatly thinks back. ‘Something bad always happens after you ask me that, and I want no part in it.’
‘Not true.’
‘Meeting Claude and ruining the original plan of getting ignored.’
‘That… was kind of inevitable, wasn’t it?’
‘December of last year. You wanted to sneak into the kitchen for chocolate, but since we were too short to reach the doors, you dragged me along to help. But then, since you got so scared because there was a rat that hadn’t been caught yet, you ended up screaming and accidentally whacked the table and got flour spilled all over me and further freaked out because I looked like a ghost and—’
‘You are so fucking mean to me. I’m telling Lily that you’re absolutely evil.’
‘Good luck with that. She thinks I’m an angel.’

The day following after Athy’s spectacular outburst against Felix regarding their birth mother, Athan was the only one able to sleep peacefully. Everyone had pale faces, a hint of exhaustion being the only indication of how they felt overall.
Well, for starters, Athanase remembers the way Lily had gently declared that Diana was always at their side. It was possible that she stayed there until the sun began to rise, and Athanasia herself did confirm in her mind that she couldn’t sleep.
Thus, it stood to reason that Felix also didn’t sleep much at all last night.
‘You all look like shit,’ Athan commented, rubbing his eyes as he yawned as always. He still wasn’t a morning (and he didn’t care what Athy said — 11 AM is still in the morning) person, but at least he got enough sleep.
‘And you’re looking like a gremlin as always, I see,’ Athy dryly thought back.
“We should be heading out now,” Felix stated, hesitating as he glanced at Athanasia.
‘Was I being a bit too much yesterday…?’ Athy thought.
‘Probably. They both think that you’re suppressing your feelings regarding the whole “I wanna see Diana” thing,’ he huffed as Athy tugged on Felix’s cloak, asking him to pick her up. ‘Thankfully, since we’re still little kids, they won’t think too much about it if you act like you never had a fight.’
‘I guess that’s just one of the few perks of being a small kid,’ Athy hummed as Felix picked her up in a piggyback ride. ‘Look at them, acting like newly-weds. They don’t have feelings for each other, do they?’
‘Then what does that make you who’s between them, their child?’ Athan raised a brow as he walked beside Felix with his grip on the knight’s cloak.
‘You can’t have Lily!’ Athy adamantly thought with puffed up cheeks as she stared at the back of Felix’s head.
There she was — ignoring him.

‘As always, Claude has crappy manners,’ Athy huffed.
‘He’s still a good Emperor,’ Athan hummed, observing the imperial family’s emblem on the banners. ‘Terrifying or not, he actually gets the work done, enough that he’s able to make time for us in his busy schedule.’
‘If he’s going to make us wait, the least he could do is let us wait in a room or something,’ Athy pouted at him.
‘True, but you don’t have room to complain,’ he raised a brow at her. ‘Considering that you’re using Felix instead of standing.’
‘That sounds like a you problem.’
‘Did you just… did you just meme at me?’
‘What’s a meme?’
‘Oh my god, my sister’s an uncultured swine.’
‘Shut up, I was broke in my previous life. I didn’t get to grow up with almost all of your internet terminology — not that it’d matter since you grew up in America and I lived in Korea,’ she glared at him. ‘And I was talking about the fact that you could have Felix pick you up, too, but you always insist on walking.’
‘I’m building up strength for when I eventually start my sword training,’ Athan rolled his eyes. ‘I don’t remember why I know this, but if I start any physically strenuous exercise now, I could possibly stunt my growth and cause my body more harm. Plus, I was only 5'2" in my last life, and Athanasios is taller than 5'4"! Every inch counts.’
‘Seriously?’ He didn’t need to look at his older sister’s face to see her incredulous expression.
‘Well… I just know he’s taller than Athanasia when the twins are 16 years old.’
Before Athy could have a chance to respond back, the doors to the throne room opened. A man with white hair and golden eyes emerged — clearly a noble, judging from the expensive materials his suit was made with. Wasn’t this Ijekiel’s father?
‘The same ducal family that raised Jennette until she was 14 years old?!’ Athy stares with wide eyes.
‘If I transmigrated as a 30-year-old dude, I’d definitely tap that,’ Athan thought, peering up at the older man.
‘Gross.’
‘Nobody asked for your opinion, Athy.’
‘Then keep a better hold on your thoughts, Athan.’
That was laughable — compared to Athy, Athan was much better at keeping his thoughts to himself, with only an occasional slip up here and there.
‘He’s your love interest’s dad, for goodness’ sake!’
‘Same goes to you!’ he shot her a look. ‘Athanasia also fell in love with him in Toska, along with Jennette, Athanasios, and even Verena, that minor villainess, fell in love with this dude!!’
“My, pardon my manners, I didn’t notice,” Duke Alpheus said upon noticing Athanasia peeking over from Felix’s back. His gaze falls, finally taking notice of Athanase at Felix’s side as well. “Roger Alpheus, at your service. Prosperity be upon the Obelian Empire.”
‘Ah… I guess he’s comparing you with Jennette,’ Athan thinks as he notices the Duke’s gaze lingering on his sister. ‘I take back what I thought. His staring’s getting kinda creepy.’
‘Me, a 5-year-old?’ Athy thought angrily as she smiled cheerfully.
Athanase looked at her.
“Hello, Mister White!” Athy brightly greeted. ‘Sup, how’s Jennette?’
‘And you always tell me off for playing jokes like this,’ Athan thought as he simply looked away.
‘It’s his fault for comparing little kids,’ Athy hummed.

Athanase gave the Duke a little wave as they walked past him and enters the throne room at Felix’s side. After Athy’s little joke on Duke Alpheus, it seemed to more or less give the Duke some rather mixed feelings. He could understand that — the twins had never been openly acknowledged until recently, and the only thing known about them is that they were the only survivors of the Ruby Palace Massacre.
Claude didn’t really come across as a doting father, and Athy’s interaction with Duke Alpheus didn’t really confirm or deny much of anything regarding the twin’s relationship with the man who sired them. After all, if Emperor Claude was a surprisingly doting father, then surely that would mean Jennette would be left in Claude’s care without too much of a worry.
‘Then again, that’s all speculation,’ Athan thought, smiling at Claude. ‘The only reason why Claude becomes fond of Jennette is because of how persistent and kind-hearted she was. Kind of like a clingy puppy.’
“You’re here?” Claude had asked in a bored tone of voice, and Athanase could tell that the question somewhat irritated Athy in the fact of how inconsiderate their father was in summoning them.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Felix answered. “We bumped into Sir Roger outside.”
“Mister White!” Athy cheerfully piped up.
“White?”
“He looks like a white doggy!”
Claude had slowly looked away, his mouth twitching as his hand seemed to shift just to cover enough of his mouth.
‘Huh? He smiled!’ Athy thought.
‘Do you think he’s trying not to laugh?’ Athan wondered, staring at their father with interest.
‘No way — that cold-hearted emperor?’ she responded, and he could practically imagine her frown deep down inside. He could imagine she was thinking back to the original Athanasia begging for her father’s love, the way his stare was described had given him shivers.
What a waste of a good novel — beautiful writing with gorgeous descriptions and writing that just spoke personality — only to end up being absolute shit. There was next to no world building, the characters felt flat, and while clichés were nice, it just didn’t make sense. Alright, prince charming Ijekiel Alpheus was a kind young man with dashing good looks, and he was caring towards Jennette and always gentle with her in their interactions, but what about Ijekiel as a character? He’s literally used as a prop to make Jennette look better.
Duke Alpheus seemed to be a bit of a scheming annoyance, but in Toska, it didn’t seem like that would be an issue for the twins. Rather, the Duke only focused on trying to make Jennette look better and didn’t even bother sparing the twins a second thought.
“A fitting nickname for a constant barker.”
‘My, my, that’s no way to talk about a future in-law.’
‘Ijekiel’s the son-in-law, though, so the Duke wouldn’t be the one with actual ties to the imperial family, although the nobles will probably see it that way,’ Athan hummed. ‘Then again, maybe it’s different in this world and Duke Alpheus would end up being considered as a brother-in-law, even though that wouldn’t have made sense in our previous lives.’
‘Ugh, that’s going to be a headache trying to figure out all the differences.’
“You’ve become quite the babysitter,” Claude comments with a… smile? as Athy gets off of Felix’s back.
Athy takes a hold of his hand, about to rush off to their father on the throne.
‘You’re still holding your candy,’ Athanase notes, causing her to blink and glance down at her other hand holding the lollipop.
“Ah,” his sister nods before handing the lollipop to Felix before dragging him over to their father.
“That reminds me,” Felix spoke as Athy noticed the throne crafted in gold. “I’ve heard that Sir Roger has a son the same age as the prince and princess. Wouldn’t he be a good friend for them?”
Athan wrinkled his nose, distinctly remembering Athy’s tease over the original Athanasios’ crush on the boy in question. Her teasing would become absolutely unbearable.
But… it would be a good idea for them to become friends. The sooner, the better, perhaps?
“Athy will have a friend?” his sister cheerfully asks.
Claude stared at his sister before finally stating, “It’s already unpleasant to have two kids running around the palace,” he comments, more so to Felix than to either Athanase and his sister. “Just thinking of three children running around the palace is a headache. I hate noise. And to think of a boy who looks like Roger Alpheus,” he seemed to scowl.
‘Too bad,’ Athy thoughtfully noted. ‘I was a bit curious about Ijekiel. He was two or three years older than Jennette…’
‘It would probably be fine to ask if we could play at his house, then,’ he raised a brow.
‘I value my life, thank you very much — huh?’
“You really are heavy,” Claude commented, picking up both of the twins. Athanase blinked as he found himself staring at the ground. He could feel his sister panicking at the strange and sudden behaviour coming from their father — after all, normally he would never even come near the twins for no more than a table’s distance.
All of his thoughts immediately halt the moment he’s placed down into a small alcove of a resting spot hidden behind the throne.
It was beautiful.
The mattress was comfortable — it was the equivalent of a thousand dollar memory foam mattress that his best friend owned in his previous life — covered with a bedsheet made of the finest and softest fabric Athanase had ever had the pleasure of sitting on. It seemed like the kind of material that he would gladly rest his cheek on and sleep, even if it’ll leave an imprint later, he would certainly have no regrets, none whatsoever!
Athan picks up a pillow with a pale green pillowcase, looking down at it with wide and starry eyes as he hugs it — the material was the same as Mr Mittens. He wasn’t allowed to bring Mr Mittens with him when they came to see their father, but he’ll gladly accept this pillow as a substitute.
‘This pillow is mine, now,’ Athanase solemnly thought to himself as he giddily flopped onto his side, hugging the pillow as he rests his head against the other pillows.
“Hearing so much barking this early in the day has made me tired,” Claude said, moving to lay down.
This man truly was his father — how could Athanase dare think otherwise, when the evidence had now been so blatantly clear? Athanase wholeheartedly agreed with his father; mornings shouldn’t be so troublesome, and if Athan had his way, he would never have to wake up at all in the mornings and could always wake in the afternoon.
Whatever budding camaraderie Athanase felt towards Claude was abruptly crushed when he requested for Athy to sing “The Lullaby Song”.
Did his sister even have a decent enough singing voice? He only remembers how useful it was when it got him and Athy out of a potentially life-threatening situation when they woke their father up. Athanase was confident in his capabilities of being a heavy sleeper, but he wasn’t sure if the same applied for when he was on the verge of falling asleep…
Well, fuck it! It’s a challenge he’ll just have to take for the sake of a nap.
‘Help me, Athan!’ Athy had screeched at him.
‘Athan whomst? I only know sleep.’
‘You asshole!’

In the end, he couldn’t fall asleep. He was in that awkward place of being sleepy-tired and wanting to sleep, but incapable of resting. His eyes were burning from exhaustion, and he shifts from where he laid, seeing Athanasia tugging on their father’s hair.
“Is His Majesty asleep?” Felix had asked, and Athan’s gaze sleepily shifts to the entrance of the alcove where the voice had come from.
He doesn’t really register the conversation, much, when Felix starts apologizing to Athanasia. It’s a personal conversation for the two of them.
But then…
“Do you have a wish, Princess Athanasia?”
“A wish?”
So, Athanase closes his eyes, realizing for the first time, a fact that’s always been there nestled in the back of his mind: Athanasia wanted to live past eighteen, she wanted to be close with Claude so much that he wouldn’t want to kill her after Jennette enters their lives.
But Athanase… he didn’t share the same ambitions and goals as she did. He’s not afraid of death, rather, he loathes the idea of painfully dying. And so, he wants to do as he pleased, to pursue his interests without financial worries.
They were very different — he already knew they were, given their personalities.
So Felix asks, and Athanasia says she isn’t lonely.

if anything good came out of 2020, it’s my discovery of manhwas.
well, it’s not like i’ve never read a single manhwa in the past 15+ years but tbh, the ratio of manhwa:manga i consume on a weekly basis has jumped exponentially this year. previously it was like 1:99 and now it’s like 90:10 LMAO.
so, just to remind myself that the world is still full of good things, i had to make this list. which i will probably edit in the future, if i can be bothered to. :)
anyhow, this list was not made in any particular order, just whichever came into mind. it’s loooong so be prepared! (I’ve read way more titles than mentioned but just included the ones worth checking out)

Bahahah omg he looks evil there! But our dearest archduke is hardly that aww. Soz, I just ripped off the covers of the manhwa cos I can’t find a panel I liked more than another. I mean, this manhwa is a GEM. I can’t even begin to describe this because everything about it blew me away. This is not something you read when you are craving for fluff, or just wanna have something brainless after a hard day at work or if you just wanna have some eye candy lol. This is something you pick up on a weekend, when you have time, because you need those hours to digest, appreciate, clutch your chest, tear a little because you find yourself falling in love with these characters. It doesn’t have any of that cliche isekai, romance, revenge themes going on. It has a solid plot, backed by incredible characters, beautifully woven by the authors and artist with incredible pacing that keeps you on your toes and keeps you looking forward to the next chapter. Maybe I would have been happier if I found it after it was completed lol. HAVE I CONVINCED YOU ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WANNA READ IT?! like, idk, just go. JUST GO READ IT GDI.
p.s. it says there romance but naaaaaaah, dont go in with that expectation. :) this story is so much more than that.

Again, pacing, character development are so important to me and this manhwa aces it. I love the 2 MCs very much. And the side characters too. :)

When I first read this, i fucking cried. like please don’t ask me why. it’s not like its an absolute tragedy but I was just rooting for the MC so much and I really want for everything to go her way. Anyhoo, there is nothing typical about this time travel plot. Sure, she goes back to try to undo the stuff that went wrong but phew, she certainly changed things so much everything that comes her way have made it so her previous experiences can hardly help aaaaaaand that’s what makes it fun! I sometimes wish the pacing could be a little more consistent, and there could be more characters I could love a little more wholeheartedly (so i wont have to be in so much despair when i read this sometimes lol) but omg the art, isn’t it pretty?! I’ve re-read this soooooo many times but the art blows me away all the time. And have I already mentioned how much I love her?! I LOVE YOU SHULI! AND I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY!

BECAUSE OF CLAUDE OF COURSE. ahahaha. okay aside from the amaaaaaaazing art and the beautiful people, the plot is not too bad. a little extreme at times but it’s interesting enough to keep me going. it’s currently on hiatus though and i was highly annoyed by how the first season ended. (YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? NOTHING.)
i hope the plot can move faster in the next season! and that our dearest MC athanasia can you know, finally be a little more useful... like omg just tell lucas already!!! and tbh girl, no matter which guy you choose, i approve. :D

no matter what, i still think dowun is best for her okay. it’s dowun or nothing. he’s devoted to her, we all know that! he just needs to ditch that annoying female guard!!! ok yknw what, maybe nothing is better. :/ *cries*

im just not sure i like how this season’s plot is progressing. :/ but i guess it brings us nearer to solving the mystery in the first leg of the manhwa. i just enjoyed the whole part of him leveling up and now that he isn’t really leveling up anymore... idk. am i hoping for more plot shit like bleach (oh wow now u quincy?)... idk man. anywho, no regrets starting on this series and marathon-ing it to death.
cross fingers the plot picks up and doesnt get too complicated for its own good.

1. top 3 ships: uhhhhhhhh, im gonna say currently rather than all time, glimmer x adora x catra, idk lol its a cute idea and theres a bunch of cute art of them together lol. ive been rly enjoying my next life as a villainess, the mc, catarina, doesnt realise she has at least 2 girls in love with her with a 3rd on the way. i wish i could believe it will resolve in polyamory but. maybe we'll at least see her get a gf. bc. its been very blatant about her friends being in love with her. one of them, mary, has been in love with her for years and is trying to sabotage anyone else falling in love with her, and the other, wont say who bc spoiler, is her reincarnated best friend (its an isekai show) but doesn't realise it, and in the last episode some magic made her speak without inhibitions, and the first thing she does is tell catarina she loves her in like, the romantic way. so you know, fingers crossed. other than thaaaaaat... uhhhhh.... oh i guess poppy and barb from trolls 2. i like that movie. wish it was as gay as it clearly wants to be. also i need to keep watching rwby, ruby/weiss/penny is rly cute.
2. last movie i watched: i watched. half. of osmosis jones with friends earlier today. very gross movie. last complete movie was probably the cgi tintin movie..?? good but idk. before that was trolls 2, for the 2nd time. those movies are great.
3. last book i read: i cant read. well i have adhd so i dont read much anymore. i miss novels but i do listen to audiobooks. currently listening to interesting times by terry pratchett with my gf. last physical book i read was uncaged vol 1, a book of queer dnd adventures with a focus on like, uhhh, monstrous women iirc. its good. def recommend. havent read the whole thing tho.
4. food im currently craving: idk how to answer this lol. i could rly fuck with some mcdonalds or burger king. anything salty spicy and deep fried.. im a glutton and i have sensory issues with food. i tend to eat mostly comfortable or safe foods with good textures and tastes. anything outside my comfort zone usually bad stims me, which is like. horrendous. it makes food hard but also like. good food is rapturous. i like stir fry a lot. my gf cooks stir fry a lot and i always love it. and i like putting condiments on things. bbq sauce, soy sauce, and like, if i can get it theres this rly good peri peri salt they sell at nandos. god i love salt and spicy things. i had a korean burger once that was so spicy i couldnt finish it in one sitting and god i want another. it had a black bun and the chicken was bright red with spices, it was great i miss it. theres this spicy burger mcdonalds did once that had like. battered and deep fried jalapenos on it and spicy salsa and chicken and it was godly. oh and the spicy shaker fries. miss those. dream burger would be something like, korean spicy chicken with some kind of sweet tangy spicy sauce, battered jalapenos, bacon, salad, and a hashbrown coated in some kind of spicy salt. i used to like subway a lot but idk now. i also love donuts. and pastries. and oranges and citrus fruit in general. pears are great too. im not usually into like, candy or chocolate tho its too sweet. oh i love chinese food. noodles and rice and meat and vegetables and sauces, all packed with flavour and amazing textures... chinese food is so good. sushi and japanese food in general tends to be my jam too. most things with rice are rly good. not curries tho i cant eat many curries, i like butter chicken tho thats always good. i could keep going lol i love food. oh turkish food is good. and greek? lots of good meats. tho i cant deal with uhhh... tabouli, parsley kills me on contact idk. and cilantro. but i love souvlakis those are great. pasta is alright, i like tortellini and ravioli and gnocchi with lots of cheese. oh and pizza. with everything on it. especially anchovies. i love anchovies and olives and feta... and pepperoni... and garlic bread. cured meats in general are very good. root vegetables too. capsicum and chillis are yummmmm. im sure i could go on... food is. so good. its euphoric. oh i love ramen too! and uhhh, ramyun i think its called?? i think its korean? its spicy and very good. thicker noodles too. anyway i should stop this is too much lol.

This novel is full of lovable and weird characters, unexpected plots and scenarios, and a MC and she is very lovable and i will adopt her with any given oppurtunity even though she is a bit villainous in a way. The scenerio of her being the villainous noble girl is actually formed by her surprisingly though the marketing of the book written by one of her followers.
Huhuhu my ship is sailing and im happy about it. I hate her former fiance and the so called protaganist in the begining and i wish to jump into the novel and beat them senselessly but thank god my child is smart and gather enough evidence to break her engagement with that a-hole and gain more money. Im so pround of her (つ≧▽≦)つ
I really like the idea of "ojou-sama" heroine who gets along with the commoner girls and really values the commoners and also a prince who actually finds the "heroine" girl annoying and has zero interest in her and wasnt in love with her at first sight

Seriously I cant stand male leads who are like that, at least have some braincells to think about the whole situation before deciding to blindly fall in life with them or at least build a healthy relaintionship before going on to the next step.Male leads who falls in love like this I really cant stand them and because of this it causes me to pity the villainess.Imagine your fiance or boyfriend suddenly falls in love with somebody else, of course you will get angry. Even though i do not agree with the measures done by most of the villainess in most stories, you got to pity them because they wasted most of their life in love with a man then suddenly find out they love another.
Eventhough some of the tropes say they where engaged for political benefits without love you gotta understand that sometimes those girls actually try to fall in love with their partner and go through the struggle to be the prefect lady for them so that they wont imbarrased their fiance as well as their own family. But sometimes there are some vilianess that you cant stop yourself from hating with your every gut and soul, *cough*Cough* That b*tch Malty S. Melromarc from Sheild Hero, she can go and delete herself from the universe i hate her with every gut and organ in my body and would physically manifest myself into the story to through hands with her *cough*Cough* ψ(▼へ▼メ)～→

But most of all, I really like the fact that she is not a reborn schoolgirl, with modern day knowledge and common sense. She was just like the other nobles in the story. She and her family had access to the same books and information as every other noble and yet, she and her family had achieved better than accomplishments than the other nobles, because they were very hard-working and smart . Also despite the fact that they have a fairly low noble status, they were very sucessfull
The story was very refreshing and would totally recommand it. I’ll rate it a 10/10. The only problem i have with it is slow updates. Author-sama pls update faster im already dying inside for new updates o(TヘTo)

do you have any tips for how to raise your self-esteem? i know that youve been on both sides and i just dont remember the last time i actually liked myself :s
kin a self-obsessed super villainess and every time u hate urself be like “SHIT SHE’D NEVER SAY THAT IM SO INVALID”
no but in all honesty i just fuckin lied to myself until my third eye opened and i realized it wasn’t actually a lie. a lot of it was also metacognition and logical fallacies. like, i only hate people who are mean and horrible, what about ME makes me think i am that? if i could pinpoint something, i would change myself to be closer to the kind of person i would like. but if it was something harmless i hated about myself, i would work on fighting back against whatever it was that made me feel shameful for that harmless thing.
for instance, a flaw i had growing up was that i grew up in an abusive household and thus came out of it a compulsive liar as a survival mechanism. that really fucking annoyed me about myself, because i didn’t even try and i still did it! so i worked hard to unlearn that behaviour, and i felt better about myself knowing i had changed for the better.
something i hated myself over that wasn’t a flaw was, well, being autistic? i hated myself because i talked too much about pokemon and went on longer than anyone wanted to hear about it. i examined that--was i hurting anyone? no, i wasn’t, i was just enjoying myself. so why did i hate myself for it? well, because everyone from my teachers to my peers to my parents told me i needed to shut the fuck up because no one cared. they were clearly in the wrong there--so, i learned to internalize that message. they were wrong. i didn’t hurt anyone. i shouldn’t hate a part of myself if it isn’t hurting anyone.
i did this for everything. deeply examined the things i had been conditioned to loathe, personality and looks. my crooked overbite and my loud voice and my wellspring of mental illness and my fat fat body w my short little legs. i thought about how i wasn’t born hating them, i had learned to from outside influence. i thought about how on anyone else, i would find those traits incredibly attractive. i thought about how if i hated myself so much, why was i also so convinced i was a special exception? like, okay wendy, you really think the universe is so centered around you that you’re somehow the ONLY fat woman in existence who DOESN’T look good in a crop top? take it back a notch, sweetie. you ain’t special.
but what no one tells you is that doesnt always work! if you hate yourself enough logic has no fucking reasoning. so i just fucking lied to myself! i lied to myself every day. i told myself i was beautiful and perfect, a golden goddess above the world, its mercy under my heel. i told myself that not only was i the one standing out in the crowd, i was truly extraordinary, one of a kind. i was over dramatic about it! i overinflated my ego to the a level that was cartoonish in how vain i was pretending to be. i would do something i thought absolutely embarrassing and disgusting and then lean back on my heels with a sly-eyed smile and inform the nearest passerby that i was, in fact, the most gorgeous and elegant creature walking god’s green earth. sarcastically, of course. it was all a joke.
...except eventually, it wasn’t. you see, it turns out that when you build yourself up with positive reinforcement like that, even if you don’t believe it, it actually internalizes itself on its own. your brain’s a weird fucking organ! you can classically condition it to love every single trait you hate about yourself and feel garbage about. it’s just a dumb fucking lump of meat, it can’t tell the difference if you work hard enough at it.
a great motivator is also spite. i’ve had a lot of wrong done unto me and i’m fucking mad about it, so i try to make myself bigger and more present to personally piss off everyone who’s tried to snuff out my flame. loving yourself is a very radical act, especially in a society that values dark and gritty self-loathing. it doesn’t even have to be to spite your enemies. sometimes i think about how white straight cishet males benefit off my suffering and self-hatred and it’s enough to keep me adoring myself for weeks at a time.
another good thing to do is cut out negative people whenever you’re able. i stopped following stupid depression/trauma meme blogs in 2016 and it was really good for my mental health. i stopped saying shit like “i wanna die” and “i hate myself” even in a hyperbolic fashion. i replaced it with, again, sarcastic self-love. if there were any people in my life who made me feel bad about harmless things i did, i shamelessly told them i was fucking off to find better company. your friends should never make you feel bad for who you are if who you are has done no wrong.
and, to tie it back home, doing the wonder woman pose in the mirror every morning and laughing like jessie team rocket really does help. u gotta laugh from the chest. full bodied and confident. like you are absolutely 100% getting that pikachu today. but that part’s optional. mostly.
sorry this is a wall im really bad at articulating myself but tl;dr: lie to yourself until you believe it, cut out negativity even if you think its insignificant, thrive out of spite for everyone whos’ ever hurt you

raiden is coming soon, so im excited!! im not sure if i will get her without spending money LMAOO only because i always reach hard pity when im wishing, so we will see 😭 but for the quest, hmmm — i think i really like the liyue arch !! that was enjoyable (because childe showed up 😩) and i had fun fighting osial and stuff. for the character hangouts (as bad as it sounds, i hate doing them lolol) i liked venti’s the most! i thought it was pretty bittersweet and i also liked playing venti in the trial for the domain!! i hated zhongli’s tho because i did not like fighting azhdaha 💀 it took me a full 10 minutes just to fight him and i had the biggest headache after LOLOL. but for the zhongli question, i actually really like playing him!! his shield is very very helpful and i don’t have to dodge when playing 💀 i just full on tank everything since his shield really good! like when fighting azhdaha and stuff, the only reason i didnt die was because of zhongli’s shield 😩 i love his burst too because its just a random meatball flying out of no where 💀💀 although, i dont really enjoy playing polearms (because i have bad weapons and never pull any LMAOO) so i mainly use zhongli as a shield and burst support!
FOR SCARAMOUCHE NO ME TOO!!! HE IS COMING HOME TO ME (if he becomes playable) NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! im crossing my fingers with you and hope he does 😭😭 as for the team comp, honestly as long as it works, i would be happy!! and you have diluc and venti, youre so lucky!! i love those two so much 😭😭 i really want venti, he looks so much fun to play!
for me, i run keqing, zhongli, and bennett! for the fourth person, im still testing out different characters and usually it changes depending on what enemies i face!! i switch between jean and kaeya a lot tho!! or sometimes i’ll run a xiao, jean, xiangling, and bennett when i feel like switching it up! 🤣 but ahhh i really want fischl since she helps a lot but i havent been able to pull her 😭 ive only been pulling thoma and as much as i love him, i want fischl 😭😭

hello !! i normally don’t analyze stuff (or send asks in general akdjdj) bc I’m crap at putting my thoughts into words but I find somi’s character very interesting so why not give it a try! so sorry in advance for my gibberish lol. anyways, if I were to sum up my interpretation of her, it would be that she is a lawful neutral/evil (assuming she’s this season’s main “villain”… im leaning more towards evil but lowkey wanna give her the benefit of the doubt tho). she is very ambitious and seems that she’s willing to do anything for things to go her way, whether it be stealing seungmin’s thunder or abusing her vp power in a dictator-like way. overall, she doesn’t seem to be having many bad ideas tbh (like the rep thing) and is very passionate about her position. she has the skills to be vp but is very harsh in implementing her beliefs. like she wasn’t exactly wrong about the student council being too lenient, but she could’ve communicated w the rest of the group before making such drastic decisions. ig she just lacks the compassion(?) and teamwork skills to be a good leader and probably works better alone due to her controlling nature. I’m assuming that’s why she’s just the vp and Chan’s the president. In a way, they’re kinda two different extremes of a spectrum. They’re both competent in their work, but Chan is a “people pleaser” with no back bone, as ryujin and yuna said, whereas somi has a “my way or the highway” mindset. I feel like somi is/can be a good person bc of how y/n said that she seems pretty nice, but then again this is only the beginning. it’s giving me “the devil wears prada” vibes where somi is only being a bitch bc that’s the only way to climb up the ladder and stay on top, if that makes sense (lol ive never watched the movie so that might be wrong). she just girl bosses too hard ig lmao. anyways I’m sorry for that fat chunk of text that probably doesn’t even make sense :’)) I’m looking forward to where you will be taking her character and season 2 as a whole :D ((also i believe in seungmin endgame supremacy but jeongin?? i just love his and y/n’s dynamic… ik those texts lately probably just mean they’re study partners again bc of how jeongin wanted to “give us another try” but akdjsjjs they’re cute))

i love every single bit of what you said anon, this season’s “antagonist” (whether people think somi fits the villain title or not) has a bit more nuance than last season’s. yeji was a one-dimensional villain, we didn’t get to know more about her personal story other than the perspective of her being a mean girl. but this time, the current “antagonist” is part of the student council, has authority, is generally well-respected (though not by the current main party), and is led by ambitions. chan and somi both want the best for the school and it’s students, they just have different ways of going about it. i love the devil wears prada comparison because you’re absolutely correct!! (idk if people’s perspectives will shift with this but—) somi’s character is indeed inspired by “misunderstood villainesses”— women in power who just work too hard and are too uptight that people think they’re “bad” even though they’re not really doing anything wrong. they may lack compassion but they make up for it with drive and rationale. 100% inspired by the amazing women in high positions or corporate power who are often misunderstood because they’re made to believe that if they don’t lead with an iron fist, people will think they’re weak or not taken seriously. “girl bosses too hard” is accurate 🙈
my take this season isn’t to showcase that somi is a bitch, i wanted to broaden peoples’ perspectives on what makes someone a “villain” and to give them the benefit of the doubt. y/n herself doesn’t feel the need to put down somi, why? because she hasn’t done anything wrong in her eyes. she kicked out ryujin but it’s because she saw that ryujin doesn’t contribute much in the council, a huge contrast to how eunha had already been able to help with paperwork. though her character will indeed have it’s own ups and downs, she’s not necessarily “evil” per se, but still, i’ll leave that up to everyone’s perception of her 🤧💓

Manga the Week of 10/6/21
SEAN: October! Time for scary manga!
ASH: Ooooooo!
MICHELLE: Scary manga and super creeps?
SEAN: Airship has, in print, Monster Musume The Novel – Monster Girls on the Job!, a spinoff of the popular monster girl manga series.
We also get an early digital release for Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter 3.
Dark Horse has the 7th Gantz omnibus.
Denpa gives us a 4th volume of Pleasure & Corruption.
Ghost Ship debuts Do You Like Big Girls? (Ookii Onnanoko wa Daisuki Desu ka?), a series that runs in Takeshobo’s Kissca, and combines ‘volleyball manga’ and ‘borderline porn’… well, OK, the porn is like 5/6 of it, the volleyball 1/6. But at least it’s all consensual, that’s a plus.
ASH: That is a plus!
SEAN: Also from Ghost Ship is SUPER HXEROS 4. This actually jumped from Seven Seas’ main label to Ghost Ship before the last volume, so presumably the sexual content also bumped up.
ASH: Sometimes you don’t know where a series is going to go until it goes there.
SEAN: J-Novel Club has lots of stuff, including 3 titles that should have been on last week’s list, apologies, the month change confused me. J-Novel Pulp’s John Sinclair: Demon Hunter 4, The Magician Who Rose From Failure 3, and Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire 2.

SEAN: DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level (Isekai Meikyuu no Saishinbu o Mezasou) is an isekai manga from Overlap’s Comic Gardo. Based on an (unlicensed) light novel, its premise is the same as any other manga with ‘isekai’ and ‘dungeon’ in the title.
Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four! (Salaryman ga Isekai ni Ittara Shitennou ni Natta Hanashi) is an isekai manga from Overlap’s Comic Gardo. Not based on a light novel, it has a salaryman summoned by the demon lord to keep her minions in line. This seems like a comedy.
Hitomi-chan is Shy With Strangers (Hitomi-chan wa Hito Mishiri) is NOT an isekai manga from Comic Gardo. This runs in Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross, and seems to be their attempt to do Komi Can’t Communicate with the serial numbers filed off.
Time Stop Hero (Jikan Teishi Yuusha – Yomei 3-ka no Settei ja Sekai o Sukuu ni wa Mijika Sugiru) is an isekai manga from Kodansha’s Shonen Sirius, which seems to combine the subtleties of isekai series with the sensitive and caring aspects of the 1982 sex comedy “Zapped!” starring Scott Baio.

Viz gives us one debut, a Shojo Beat title from Betsuma. My Love Mix-Up! (Kieta Hatsukoi) features a new author but the artist is the one who did My Love Story!!. Guy likes girl, but she seems to like another guy. What’s more, the other guy now thinks that HE likes him. Bisexuality ahoy!
ASH: My Love Story!! is a favorite of mine, in part because of the artwork, so I’m definitely planning on giving this one a try.

SEAN: Viz has a new My Hero Academia: School Briefs light novel, the 5th in the series. It seems to take place right after the My Villain Academia arc (though is about the heroes, of course).

Sadly, while he wants peace for all, most everyone wants him dead.

with the holiday season coming around (wow guys its basically been a year by now since i started using this tumblr for wmmap at least) ive been super busy with work and havent had a lot of time to write
HOWEVER
i recently looked at my doc for itbomm and there’s at least 86 pages worth of unposted wip tidbits precisely because its for future events and im trying to piece everything together like a jigsaw puzzle
side note: there’s a total of 204 pages, in which 118 is solely the chapters that have already been posted on wattpad and ao3
so for those who are unfamiliar with my writing process -- i write a bunch of scenes mainly on a whim that i refer to as “tidbits”. one day i could write consecutive scenes and bam i’ll have a new chapter out asap. another day i could write a bunch of different scenes and end up with only one that gets thrown into the current wip chapter while some scenes get scrapped
basically, its the rough draft, things might get heavily edited or be kept the same in the fic, or be used for later down the storyline. i dont care much for spoilers, but i know that there are people who do care
this post is for the people who want the breadcrumbs of spoilers whether big or small!

A figure, standing high on a ledge, staring up to the skies.
There is a firm resolve, one that cannot be persuaded.
Breathing out — a wish, perhaps — and an action.
“Maybe next time,” he says, and…
He takes the plunge.

“You can’t just pick when and who to fall in love with, Athanase.”

Everything before and after is a blur, but he remembers everything in between.
The room is quiet, almost uncomfortably so. She breathes, abrupt and almost angry at first, only to exhale softly with a tune of fatigue. He shifts in his seat on an elegantly designed sofa that was old and worn from age. Something is different — unsettling, almost, but he can’t tell what it is.
“So you’re going through with this, after all,” his guest states, her voice barely shaking — he didn’t expect any less of her composure. Even in the face of something like that, she still retains her calmness, and a familiar sense of fondness washes over him. “Do you truly love him, so much that you would run away?”
“I am, I do,” he states, and there’s an apology waiting to slip out, but he bites his tongue.

They both agree that it wasn’t a good idea to talk about the matter more than what they’ve already established. He wasn’t too thrilled, either, to hear about how he died. Perhaps it was more of just morbid curiosity in wanting to know the details of his death.
After all, if he and the original Athanasios died in the same way, one that didn’t require poison of any kind, then maybe there was some more to the mystery behind Athanasios’ death that not even Autumn would know. She may have written Toska from his sister’s perspective, but that doesn’t mean Athanasia would actually know the full truth, especially if Claude decided not to divulge details in the original story.

“Maybe next time,” she bitterly laughed, “I could be happy with just this.”

“You said that you saw glimpses of your past life long before you found me in the forest, right?”
“What about it?” Autumn frowned.
“Do you remember any of it?”
“Too much of it. Why do you ask?” Even though she asked, he could tell that she had her own guess. And he could tell that she was most likely correct in her conclusion.
“I remember bits and pieces, but nothing major.”
“That’s a good thing, isn’t it? You’re making progress.”
“I’m not sure,” he grimaced. “The issue is that it’s too slow for the sake of progress.”
There’s a moment of tense silence, his shoulders stiff as he looks at his reflection in his tea, and he hears the tiny clink of a teacup placed into its little plate.
He could feel her stare.
“…I don’t think you should try to force the issue, if you can’t remember much.”

“You don’t know how to braid hair?” she frowns, looking at him. “That’s such a shame, you have really pretty long hair…”
She was definitely staring at his hair with an unspoken question.
“If you want, you’re free to braid it,” he dryly states. “Besides, I’m only growing it out this long because it looks nice.”
“No take backs,” his best friend grins, shifting closer and brushing her fingers through his long black hair. “Also, I recently just read this manhua called Grandmaster of the Demonic Sect, and it’s about this dude who transmigrated back to the world 13 years after he died, and the protagonist’s name is Wei Wuqian, aka, Wei Yin, and he—”
“Wait, did you write fanfiction for the short story assignment?”
“Huh?”
“You literally named the main character Yi Wei, and his husband as Zhan Lan. Isn’t this that one fandom that blew up on Twitter? We literally used the short essays for our workshop session and I literally read your story. You turned in a fanfic for a class assignment.”
She avoids eye contact with him, “Not that I’m saying I did — which you can’t prove anything — there’s nothing wrong with submitting a fanfic for a class.”
It’s the first time he outright laughs around her.

“It’s fine, I guess,” she seemed very put off, clearly torn between wanting to ramble spoilers while simultaneously wanting to keep her story a surprise. “It’s not a major spoiler, at least…”
“Well?”
“No, Verena was never in love with Ijekiel.”
Well, fuck. That actually felt like a spoiler. A very major spoiler.
He wasn’t sure how to feel about that. In fact, it was really unexpected — Verena was obsessed with Ijekiel, even after the engagement between Verena and the Prince was broken off.
“What?”

So here he is now — sitting in a drawing room of the Emerald Palace, with his sister and Lucas quietly bickering to the point that he was tuning them out as nothing more than white noise.
‘They act like a stereotypical old married couple,’ Athanase absentmindedly thought.
Upon that thought, the magician boy whirled their head around and glared at him. He blinked, staring back at the red-eyed magician.
‘Did he hear my thoughts?’

“You’ve got a lot of nerve to attack me, I’ll give you that,” Athan coldly stated, staring down at the perpetrators. “Perhaps I’m more of my father’s child after all,” he mused, jewel blue eyes sharp and glinting ominously. “Because my father would have you executed for even making an attempt. Granted, if you had aimed your killing intent towards me, you’d have been torn asunder already.”

“He thought you were the princess!” Verena laughed.
“We’re twins,” Athanase flatly stated. “It’s not that strange.”
“She’s taller than you.”
“Because she hit puberty first, thanks to biology.”
“Even though your hair isn’t as wavy as hers.”
“I braid my hair when I sleep to make it wavy — you know this!”

She looks at him, surprised.
“If you’re scared, then we could die together.”
“…are you serious?”
“When it comes to you? Always.”

“In my second life, when I was Michelle, I thought I had an overactive imagination, y’know?”
She stared at him for a long while, “I thought you hated that name.”
“I did.”
He really did — he hated the person he used to be, he liked growing out his hair and wearing pretty clothes, but he hated being mistaken for a girl. There were a lot of things that he hated about being Michelle, but now that he was living another life, it was different. Maybe it was because he was born as the boy he had always hoped he could be, or maybe it was just because he never really hated the name, but rather the fact that it was his.
It was kind of funny, really. Now that he was Athanase, he cherishes his past life as Michelle, when he absolutely hated his life when he was still Michelle.

Upon hearing his sister’s voice, he was taken aback.
That was his sister’s thoughts.
He could hear his sister’s thoughts again.

“As you already know,” she weakly says, “Athanasios died. In my rewrite, I tried to figure out a way to keep him alive, I wanted to give the twins a happy ending.”
That was surprising — she never told him that.
“No matter what I tried to write, I couldn’t imagine him being alive at the end of Toska. Somehow, or some way, he was going to end up dying. It was the main reason why I stopped posting updates in the first place. I wanted to finish it, though, at least for you, when I found out that you read my story. I wanted to finish rewriting Toska for you, but then you…”
But then he died.
She had no reason to finish her story, if the one she rewrote it for wouldn’t even be there to read it.
“And it was… it was the same. For Athanasios. He…” she refused to look up from her teacup, but he could already see where she was going with this.
“Athanasios died in your rewrite.”
Just like he did.
