Gonna be entirely honest from what ive heard abt New Soupernatural it honestly feels very unfitting for Dean to go around actually saving his mom. Like. Im SORRY to say it but the way John raised Dean and how John shaped him to be Sams Protector to be There For Sammy to raise him with the burden of "you may have to kill him for me, Dean. You're going to need to watch Sam and I need you to promise me you'll shoot him if he goes south" is really fucking integral to why Dean is Dean.
YES, we see Dean multiple times wanting a white picket fence life. We know he doesn't want to hunt. But for him to completely rewrite time. Alter a timeline feels. So disingenuous to who his character was.
Dean didn't deserve to die how he did, but what he's doing in Heaven is no better. Deans story should have ended differently yes, but not how it's going in The New Show

Where the reader finds out she is pregnant and is scared to tell tate because she thinks he will make her get an abortion and when she finds out about how tate is dead she stays calm so she doesn't add a lot of stress to herself and the baby maybe she is walking home at night and some guy tries to rob her and then kill her but tate gets there and saves her she finally tells him and he tells her how much he loves her and can't wait to be a father. He says this behe is so deeply in love with the reader. (sorry if its long you don't have to write it)
Tate Langdon x plus-size!Reader
Warnings: mentions of pregnancy, assault, robbery, and abortion.
Summary: at the top! I hope you like this fic!<3 also it isnt proof read
Tumblr media
You don’t really know how you ended up in this situation, pregnant with Tates baby, afraid of what he would say or do if you told him, worried he might make you abort the baby.
You always knew Tate was a deeply disturbed person, you overheard the conversations he had with your dad, he’s a therapist and has a home office for his patients.
Your dad always told you to stay away from him of course in the beginning you did but then Tate started wandering the house when your dad thought he left, he made it up to your room one day, watching you threw the crack in your door.
Man he thought you were gorgeous, when you noticed him peeking he got scared of how you would view him, would you think of him as a creep?, as a stalker?
His worries went away when you invited him into your room
‘Oh hi I’m Tate I live next door’ he said shyly breaking eye contact with you, you have him a assuring smile ‘I know who you are Tate, I see you with my dad from time to time, so what are you doing up here’
You ask Curiously ’i was just looking around sorry if I looked like creep earlier I just thought you looked cute- ah sorry I didn’t mean to say that’ he says cutting himself off
‘It’s okay I think your pretty cute too’ that helps him feel less awkward and it’s not like your lying
Ever since that day you two have practically been inseparable, he’s always in your room hanging out, listening to music, watching movies.
After you guys got to know each other better things escalated which got you into the situation you are in now.
Sitting on the bathroom floor with a positive pregnancy test, cursing to yourself, why just why did this have to happen to you.
Lost in your thoughts you over heard someone talking, you quickly hid the pregnancy test and got up to see who it was.
It was Tate and Constance, Tates mother, you never liked her the way you’ve seen her talk to him but you’ve just stayed out of there business because Tate asked you too.
‘Tate how many times have I told you to stop talking to this girl, if she find out your secret, it’ll be over’ she whisper yells at him
‘Mom, she’s not gonna find out I’m dead, she’s never asked me out the house so you don’t have to worry’
Dead? Dead. It made you dizzy, what does he mean dead, how is he talking to you touching you if he is dead.
It makes so sense, whatever he meant or means you know you have to keep calm in order to not put stress on yourself or the baby, even if Tate doesn’t want the baby in the end you do.
After you hear them walk you away you need fresh air to get your kind off of everything.
You put on warm outdoor clothes considering it’s already dark at night , once you get outside you decide to head to the supermarket to get some stuff to snack on.
You got there grabbed some chips and drinks, you had some spare cash that you could use, you bought your items and headed back.
When you got to the yard of your house some random man came out of the bushes and started covering your mouth
He put a knife against your neck ‘I swear if you make one sound I will cut your throat right here bitch, now give me everything you have.’ You are pulling out your wallet and just give it to him the stuff you bought from the store too.
After you give him everything your shaking still trying to keep calm cause all your thinking about is the baby, ‘you know what I’m gonna kill you anyways’
As he’s about to hurt you Tate comes out of the shadows ‘don’t fucking touch her’ he says slamming a rock against his head more than one time
It definitely knocks than random man out, you never felt so relieved, Tate saved you
‘Oh my god y/n are you a okay? Did he hurt you?’ He says pulling you into a hug, ‘it’s okay Tate I’m fine can we please go inside’ you beg ‘yeah of course baby’ he says grabbing your stuff from the ground and leading you inside
When you got to your room you started breaking down crying, ‘hey, it’s okay y/n your safe now’ he says giving you a kiss at the top of your head,
‘I know tate that’s not why I’m crying’ you say looking at him ‘then what’s wrong?’ He says confused
You take a deep breath ‘I’m pregnant tate and it’s yours, I’m sorry’
He’s speechless for a good minute, you take that as a bad sign, ‘really?’ He asks you see some excitement in his eyes which makes you relieved
‘Yeah I was having a lot of symptoms so I took a pregnancy and test and it was positive but I understand if you don’t want the baby but I’m not getting a abortion tate’ you state
‘No no I don’t want you too, I can’t believe I’m going to be a dad, to our baby , I’m so happy y/n I love you so much and I would never make you get an abortion I want the baby just as much as you do.’
Your smile got so wide and then you remember what him and his mother said.
‘Tate, what did you mean earlier when you said you were dead?’ His eyes go wide.
‘It’s a long story y/n’

Lief: "So you're telling me you guys are all royalty, and you're THIS dysfunctional?" He had a wry smirk on his face as he looked over them all. "You'd think a family of royals would be more held together. More regal, you know. And you guys are hoping to welcome visitors, too?"
He gave a low laugh. He never was terribly fond with royals, and seemed to enjoy ripping this family a new one based on their ettiquite alone. "Look, the Gracidea here are nice and all, but I'm not exactly feeling very homely right now. Like, you there. Miss. Your daughters just tried to kill each other. No one wants to see that."
If one were to drop a pin, you could definitely hear it hit the ground. Lief's choice of words had brought great silence to both the family and draconic hybrid. Especially with how the blue canine dropped his jaws in great disbelief. Never has he ever heard someone spoke negatively to the royals before! This... It left the boy utterly speechless!
Tumblr media
The first to battle through the tense atmosphere was Ondorus. Plopping out from between the furs of his mother's tails, he would hurry his way towards the direction of Lief. Once their paths had connected, the young prince would spin around before quickly halting himself to create a sort of heroic pose! He stuck up a welcoming paw towards the Simbobeon. "Hihi mister! Welcome to Valinthea!" He states with sheer confidence. "I am super sorry that you don't feel happy with here and us! But but but I hope that I, papa, mama, and sissy siss can help make things better! Because everyone is welcome and I want everyone to have pretty smiles! I hope to make you happy and get a pretty smile too!" Both Nuria and Sondoria didn't seem to quite settle well with Ondorus sentiment. This mostly leans towards them finding the hybrid in front of them is deserving of no positive enforcement, after what he had said to them. However, despite holding a feeling of disagreement, neither would dare utter their distaste.
Well… At least, not Nuria.
Tumblr media
Sondoria, on the other hand… She felt her blood rising, heating from anger. The celestial Eevee was seething, enraged of how impudent and careless the hybrid's words was spoken out. She was feeling more hot temper than the blazes on Rapidash's mane. All she could do was snap at him, raising her voice. "Dysfunction?!! You… You come waltzing in here to spew out the most disrespectful thing, insult us, and THEN proceed to complain that this place isn't homely?!! It's pests like you that doesn't deserved to be welcome he--" The Eevee's words was brought to an immediate halt by a paw brought near to the front of her mouth. Her mother had chosen on silencing the princess from conveying her words any further. "Sondoria, no. I'd advise to please not speak any further of this matter." While the crystalline fox's voice was filled with serenity, it also was granting a sense of discipline. Not wishing for her daughter to spout another negative remark, as enough trouble had already been caused. Ideally, this is not the introduction she had hoped to have on the first welcoming day to her kingdom.
Tumblr media
The queen, finally, had took her approach. She didn't advance too closely to Lief, ensuring of boundaries of the two. So instead, she had decided upon herself to choose a more respectable proximity. Her pale blue eyes retain its set gaze to Lief's. Tranquility… Serene… Direct…
And then…
She apologetically bow down her head. The queen had chosen to show remorse towards both the public view of barbaric behaviors and for her not doing a better job from preventing such a circumstance to begin with. "My apologies. I am aware that such inferior display is rather quite unacceptable. I, Symania, take full responsibility and promise to ensure that such behavior will not happen again…"
"Mom!" Both Nuria and Sondoria spoke in near unison. Both daughters were readying to protest, as neither felt that the apology was justified. However, before either could speak, they were meant with a piercing glance from Symania. Immensely taking the hint, the two would begrudgingly keep their mouths shut.
"Mentioned by my youngest, Ondorus, I promise to make certain that you will be welcomed, as well as have a splendid time in my kingdom. All I request is to be respectful towards the Pokemon, Valinthea citizens, of my land. I care not if you choose to speak ill of me. As long as you do not show harm or intolerance to my people, then there shall be no issue." "As for my children…" Symania would take a slight glance directing at her kids. "If they do or say something of poor etiquette, then you are free to create contemptuous remarks. I do not mind aiding my children to say, as you Pokemon of this age like to state, 'growing a backbone'.". Although quiet, the queen seems to lightly chuckle at that. Much to the dismay of the daughters. "Ah, but I would best advise avoid laying harm to any of my children. It would be dearly unfortunate to grant a severe unpleasant experience to the newest visitor."

MY TOUGHTS ON PART ONE OF RED HOOD BY CHIP ZDARSKY :)
Finally I have read part one of the Red Hood story in Batman: Urban Legends!
This story is very interesting, we start with the Red Hood looking for the people who are providing Gotham with a new drug. This drug “Cheerdrops” has been passed around for weeks at this point and it has had devastating results among it's users. If you know Jason you understand that drugs are a big issue for him and one that he treats very carefully and seriously.
As he interrogates people he arrives to the building where one of the dealers of this drug is supposed to be, there he finds a horrific scene, a boy is desperately trying to wake up his mother who appears to have overdosed in her bed. Jason is quick to call an ambulance and get in contact with Oracle in order to find the boy's father who is (as he finds out later) the man that he was looking for.
Jason sees this scene and can't help but compare it to the time he went through this situation with his mom all those years ago, so he takes the boy with him so he can take him to his father, who Jason is hoping is a good man that had to sell drugs in order to help his family.
That's basically the premise of this first part of the story but now i will write about my thoughts on the specifics of the story.
The story begins with Jason giving a speech about fear and how it's used,
"Fear. Its a tool, it's his tool. I never really adopted it, maybe because he kept that fear all to himself." Then he continues with "Never had to rely on it, had to work harder to take out the bad guys, had to be...more direct." he finishes that thought with "Rubber Bullets. So that fear doesn't get turned around on me."
I for one really liked this Fear speech, it does really sum up what the Batman does, he relies on the Fear that he imposes on Gotham's criminals and such while Robin on the other hand was never meant to work with fear, which is true.
It did remind me of the speech that Alfred gave in issue #10 of Under the Red Hood about how Batman works with fear and Jason had some thoughts on it, here is some of it,
"Master Jason had a condescending practice of referring to the costumed criminals elements as 'dress ups'. He also noted that such individuals did not fear the Batman the way street thugs and mafioso did. The 'dress ups' did not believe he was a monster." "...the boy did say something to me that chilled me to the bone...even then. 'They all know he won't kill them.'"
Anyway let's go back to the actual comic I am talking about...
Jason speaks from his position as Red Hood in current time and says that he uses rubber bullets in order to keep the Bat at bay, the fear that the Bat uses against other criminals cannot be used against him if he plays within the Bat's rules.
As he was doing that he was actually trying to get info about who is making the drug but all he was able to get was who was selling it to the person he was interrogating. This drug is dangerous and Jason has to work fast.
Here is where we see the first flashback scene, we see Jason in the cave before he was able to go out as Robin and he is not to happy about it. The art is very beautiful but sadly in these panels i found my first problem with the context of Jason becoming Robin and how Zdarsky seems to set Jason's feelings on the first Robin.
Tumblr media
It seems that Zdarsky is going for the “Jason believed Dick was the perfect Robin and no matter what he did he would never be as good as him” route, which fine ok, that's your right but, is it really necessary? I must admit i am a little tired of this particular thing because i adore the fact that when Dick and Jason first met they were fine with one another (even if a little wary at the very start). And the whole competitive and “i will never be as good as X person” is really tiring in the Robin/Batfamily fandom.
That problem is not as significant as the next one though.
Jason not thinking that Robin was “badass”. Well this is not only a bad take but it's completely OOC for Jason, no matter how you see it. From his first appearance as Robin to the flashbacks in Winick's UtRH and even through both of Lobdell's runs Jason has always loved the concept and the mantle of Robin as a child.
Tumblr media
Batman v1, #385.
So that whole take is wrong, i don't like it and also who on this or any universe would rather call themselves Batboy? Honestly i hope this is never brought up again or i will cry. ((((Also in this house Robin will always be the name that Mary gave Dick and then he used as his hero name so it hurts a lot more))))
Also at the end of this first flashback Jason discovers a room full of firearms and is obviously surprised because Batman hates those so he asks why he has them, B responds that he has to understand how they work for his detective work, but that's not all he says, he also says this “...Guns are a coward's weapon, and we will not be cowards.”
Alright Mr. Zdarsky i see the irony... i also see the Daredevil / Punisher thingie right there.
Anyway we are now back to the present where we see Batman seeing the effects of the drug in one of its victims, after saving that person he takes some samples of the drug. We also get to see two police officers with different views on the “masks”, that's a nice way to set the story after the Joker War and before the Magistrate.
Back to Jason, he seems to be struggling, he can't find the people making/providing the drugs in Gotham and is also doubting his skills, he tells a man that if the information that he gave him is incorrect he “will find him” followed with another internal speech full of self doubt, “...sure thing Red Hood, right now you can't even find a street drug. Half of Gotham's teenagers could find it no problem. You never were the best detective.”
Alright, so Jason feels insecure about his skills now? First you have pre-Robin Jason not feeling like he could be able to keep up with the first Robin and now, Jason as a grown man has doubts about the skills that he has used for a long while now? I mean, press X for DOUBT because UtRH showed us how much of a badass and extremely skilled he is. This man planed everything in order to turn the Bat's world upside down (and this story has references to UtRH so it definitely happened) and now he feels like he is not that good?
Shit. i know where this is going, first the insecurities that he has already worked out... I can see it coming, the next big thing will be Daddy issues. Wonderful i hate it and i hope i am wrong because those “issues” are more than resolved, i know that's the only trope DC throws at Jason but honestly how different will it be this time?
Fine, lets move on. Jason finds himself in one of the apartments and what he sees is horrifying. Lying on a bed there is a woman completely catatonic with a horrible smile on her face and right next to her a terrified little boy.
Here is the best take on Jason's character so far.
Realizing that the child is scared of the situation and the masked man that just came into his home Jason takes off his mask and reassures the kid that he is there to help, it's quickly made obvious that the woman has overdosed on Cheerdrops, he makes sure to call an ambulance for her stating that she seems to be in a  drug-related coma.
Its important to note that Jason is doing this as he is having troubling thoughts about how much this scene reminds him of the time he was in this little boy's (Tyler) shoes. Its hard for him but he soon realizes that he needs to make sure Tyler is safe.
He asks Tyler if he has another parent, he does and his name is Andy, after taking a look around the house Jason deduces that maybe the father is also taking drugs so if the police comes they will surely take Tyler and put him in the system, this idea is not one Jason is fond of so he calls Oracle, he asks if she can locate Tyler's dad's phone, when she asks about the kid Jason says that he will be the one keeping him safe.
Tumblr media
Now we find ourselves back with Batman where he is investigating the components of Cheerdrops, he finds out that the drug is a modified version of Scarecrow's fear gas that gives the victim a sense of extreme happiness instead of fear.
Here we get confirmation of when in the timeline this story occurs, which is after the events of Infinite Frontier (where there was an attack on Arkham and many patients/prisoners were killed or escaped).
B suggests to Oracle that maybe Crane didn't die there and that he might be behind this drug, he will be on the job right away! To this Oracle is like well shit, so she tells B that Jason is also working this case...and here comes a funny yet confusing interaction.
Tumblr media
Barbara says “I know you two aren't exactly friends right now but...” before she finishes Batman interrupts her by saying “He is a killer Barbara. I will do this alone.”
OH BOY is this interaction confusing! First of all may i point out how different this conversation is from the one in Three Jokers where the roles were basically reversed??? Please tell me that i am not the only one who finds that funny! Anyway that story doesn't matter here, but Red Hood Outlaw from Rebirth does, right?
Here is the thing, the last person that Jason “killed” in rebirth was Penguin and he actually didn't do it, he had him trapped in a panic room in his own Casino. Batman already beat the living shit out of Jason in RHatO #25 for it...and some time has passed, B surely found out that Jason didn't kill Penguin by now, i mean isn't he like the best detective to ever detective in the history of the universe??
Not only that but Jason has been using rubber bullets for a while and even at the start he mentions that, he basically implies that he is playing by the Bat's rules to keep him off his back. Maybe B hasn't let go of the duffel bag full of heads or any of the shitty people Jason killed during UtRH??? If B still holds that against Jason then why would he try to make Jason part of his Bat clan at the beginning of RHatO Rebirth?
Maybe he still thinks that Jason killed the penguin...but even then isn't B working with Harley and Ghost-Maker? You know, people who have killed? Why is Jason different? Did Jason kill someone recently that we don't know about? Jason only kills a very distinct set of people (that are very not nice) so i guess i don't see the logic...
Anyway second flashback, and this time we have a look at what was going on in the Batcave with B and Alfred during the events of UtRH! Nothing that wasn't explored in UtRH is said here but we do see Alfred explicitly telling Bruce how much they failed Jason. There is a heavy insinuation that the fact that Batman keeps sending the Joker to Arkham only for him to escape and kill more people actually makes B responsible for those deaths and i love that. Thank you.
Tumblr media
Back to Jason and Tyler we get to see some very adorable scenes between the two. Jason gives the lower half of his mask to Tyler to protect his identity like a superhero and we have a really sweet moment in which Tyler chooses the Blue Hood as his name because he likes the colour blue (same Tyler).
Tumblr media
After he leaves Tyler in a place where he will be safe he goes to the building where Andy should be and let me tell you the more Jason sees the less hopeful he becomes about Andy being just one of the people selling the drug... He does some shooting and incapacitating and then follows the man that is trying to escape and here is when shit hits the fan.
Andy is a disgusting human being. He hates Tyler's mother and doesn't care that she might be dead and the piece of shit hates his son so much that he gave a barely 10 year old drugs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. BANG BANG BANG MOTHERFUKER.
Tumblr media
If you think that this leads to Jason being a little more like his UtRH self, you know the guy that said that people who gave drugs to kids will get killed without a thought...yeah that's not happening, here comes the guilt!
Tumblr media
I get it he just killed a man, but, did you read what that man said?
Anyway that's how the first part of this story ends.
The story is good. it has things that don't make much sense but i think it's because Zdarsky is a Batman fan and not a Red Hood fan in the sense that he doesnt know much about Jason's character and that this is his first ever DC work.
I cant wait to see where this story goes, while i hope “unresolved daddy issues” doesn't become a theme yet again in a Red Hood story i believe it's where we are headed. I will keep on reading because i am invested in Jason and Tyler's relationship and what is going to happen now that Jason killed Andy.
Let me know what you thought about the issue and my post if you want! Bye!

Attack on Titan in 2020
I've sort of dropped doing detailed chapter posts on the series because that type of writing wasn't very fun for me anymore and I have taken a liking to a bullet point kind of approach where I list the elements that stood out for me in the chapter or make a separate post for some specific topic I'd like to talk about in it.
I've started like 10 different posts to attempt to talk about AoT this year and I always end up with incoherent rambling because of all of the elements I'd love to to talk about.
This year's chapters were 125-135 and this year's episodes episodes 1-4 of season 4.
The anime episodes in particular have given me a lot of food for thought, so I'm just saying fuck it.
I think the biggest misstep of the story for me will forever be the fact that it decided to use fairly specific historical imagery.
The Eldians are clearly supposed to have allegorical equivalency with Jewish people, but the Jewish people were never the oppressors. There weren't any Jewish empires. That's conspiracy theory bullshit.
But on the other hand, the series clearly takes great effort to not stereotype any of the groups it's portraying and gives complex reasons for what both sides do. It's one of the few Japanese series that I've seen not stereotype Middle Eastern-coded people (Ramzi and Halil) or black people (Onyakapon). Everyone are people, it says. It even champions diversity:
Tumblr media
(Chapter 118)
It is also very much true that a bunch of fascist states use long-term history as an excuse for their actions:
Tumblr media
(Chapter 127)
Nation did X 2000 years ago therefore our conquest of them is justified.
This makes discussion about the series' themes like a minefield.
The people who are very critical about its imagery are right, but the people defending the series aren't wrong, either because it condemns all of those nasty ideas of conquest and hurting innocent people.
You can't have a more clear-cut condemnation of genocide:
Tumblr media
(Chapter 127)
If you combine all of these details instead of zoning in on them one by one, to me what the story is saying is that *even if* all of that conspiracy bullshit is true, innocent people don't deserve to be slaughtered no matter the reason because they are still people who have their own feelings, thoughts and wishes.
The story clearly gets the baseline, but fumbles the details. I decided to look up some more discussion surrounding this these past few days and I just wish there was more good faith discussion about it. A lot of it feels like a moral superiority contest.
I think it's these kind of flawed stories that actually deserve detailed scruitiny over stories that are rotten to the core because they are *almost there*. Talking about them is a good topic starter in what to do and not to do in a story like this.
Speaking of rotten to the core, I think the absolute highlight of the chapters this year is Eren and some of the chapters this year finally gave me a pretty clear picture of what is going on with him.
Context from 123 certainly helps, though:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
(Chapter 131)
This is about Eren's perspective. He can't accept the destruction of Paradis.
It's not that this solution was inevitable looking in from the outside (which is one of the interpretations I see around for Eren's actions), it's that *Eren* can't see any other way out of this except the most extreme because of all of the horrible things he has seen from the outside world. It is very similar to the way suicidal people can only focus on the negative.
You can tell them everything is going to be okay, but those words won't reach them because their mind won't let them and loops them back to those negative thoughts.
Eren can't see the ice cream or silly clowns. But he can see how the other Eldians in the league of Eldians are willing to push Paradis under the bus. He can see how Grisha's sister was killed. He can see how racist and cruel Marley is towards the Eldians in Liberio (and how the people have racist leanings towards other nations, too).
He can only see those bad things. But he also understands how everyone outside of the walls are human just as the people inside of the walls are.
So he is torn to pieces by guilt.
He doesn't want to do this, but he can't see any other solution.
This is why I also think he can't rob his friends of their agency. He is fighting for them to have a good future:
Tumblr media
(Chapter 133)
Tumblr media
(Chapter 131)
What really stood out to me on a revisit is that Eren considers himself much worse than Reiner.
I've seen criticism on how the story pushes the narrative of both sides being the same and this detail is really important to me because this is the story acknowledging that what Eren is doing is worse and gives all of the following exchanges about this the context of it being a similarity in principle.
Both sides have killed for what they think is right and have to deal with how they have killed people. This is such an important detail in the Uprising arc, too, where Erwin firmly acknowledged that overthrowing the government might not actually be the right choice by him. It was simply what he saw as right. On a narrative level this avoids absolute truths and preference of one character perspective over the other and once again makes it about individual perspectives.
The theme of individual perspectives is so ingrained in this story at this point in my eyes that it's another cornerstone in understanding what is going on with Eren to me.
I think it's great.
I also really appreciate Annie and what was done with her in this chunk of chapters.
Tumblr media
(Chapter 127)
There has been this narrative going around that proposes that the story is in Eren's corner too much. But these chapters are nothing but questioning Eren and Annie is one of the main voices in this. It's the Marleyan girls, really and I think this is a very necessary part of making the narrative work. Once again, it separates the narrative and character perspective.
It says that the Paradis side caring is about character perspective, not what the narrative sides with and Annie is even sympathetic to Mikasa in that instance.
She gets it. Unexpectedly, I think Annie might play a bigger role in taking down Eren than expected. Her character arc about deciding to no longer go with the flow because she doesn't want any more tragedy to happen is basically calling for it.
Tumblr media
(Chapter 128)
Another element I've seen brought up is the fact that nobody seems to address the Bert-sized elephant in the room, but some of our characters are certainly thinking about him.
This is such a thematically strong element and really interesting because Connie joined the military to make his mom proud and be a good soldier. This is the motivation behind his claim when he says they are going to save the world. But what does becoming a good soldier mean, exactly?
Well, apparently possibly gunning down people you care about.
This moment is so good because it's another moment where the idea of glory in war is taken down a peg.
The moment with Connie declaring they're going to save the world is so often criticised, but it is actually turned on its head in 128. There is no heroics in this. This is actually Connie's big "killing a person" moment because it strips away the final bit of comfort in killing in war, the excuse of killing for good moral reasons.
It is also a wonderful complex evolution of the series' themes. Trost was about fighting monsters. In the Female Titan and Clash of Titan arcs some of those monsters turned out to be human. In the Uprising, Return to Shiganshina and Marley arcs all of those monsters turned out to be human and here in the War of Paradis arc, everyone is human and the only separating system is what everyone views as right.
I really hope the anime will let this chapter breathe a little bit more.
Moving on, I guess it is time to address the rumbling.
I love it as a horror spectacle.
Tumblr media
(Chapter 130)
And I really I think it needs to be non-CG when animated. CG is fine in spectacle battles, but not in horror settings because it is too clean.
The rumbling needs to be disgusting and dirty.
Chapter 132 gave me one of the few moments in which I truly cared about Levi. I think him telling Hange to dedicate her heart was a very good moment to cap off their relationship. He sent another SL commander to fulfill their duty.
The speech about hatred in chapter 134 also stood out to me. I think it definitely should be fitted in there somewhere in this, but I also see a bunch of criticism for it.
I want to point out that this is the side of present Marley talking here. It's the military dictatorship.
It's the Nazis. I think the Nazis should feel regret for exploiting innocent people and admit they're wrong.
I also like how the horrors here are undoing the brainwashing and showing the truth to the citizens.
I guess you could read it as heavy-handed, but it is also something that needs to be addressed and in principle, it's not wrong.
I'm also going to put a mention of Historia here. I've talked about how this is my biggest and most glaring problem with the series because of how thematically unfitting it feels, but I've also talked about it in many posts. I wanted to focus more on other stuff in this post.
So now, we make it back to chapter 135.
I think having stewed on it for a month now, I like the element of mindscrewing our cast with the Titans of the people they love is the strongest element of it. It's making them face their personal traumas and we also get some great character moments and payoffs from it.
Mikasa ended off the year in a very good note in my eyes.
Even this deep in the story, this chapter left me in a situation where I have no idea how things might turn out.
I might have rough ideas, but not anything specific and that's fun.
Well, this is it on my retrospective.
2021 is confirmed to be AoT's final year of publication as volume 34 is set to be the story's final volume.
Those who hate the story can finally be free of it and those who care for it, can look back on it with fondness and sadness and many other emotions and evaluate.
It's been 7 years for me. What a wild ride.
So, I'm asking everyone, what are some of your observations on AoT in 2020?
Is there anything you'd like to add or do you have any observations or counterarguments for anything I've said?
I'd be curious to see what everyone else thought of AoT in 2020!

Part 3
Title: Divorce
Jungkook's P.O.V
They say getting drunk is the best thing to do when you feel the world is no longer a good place for you. It helps you forget everything, especially the things that hurts you so bad. However, it is not the case with me. I have been siting here in the kitchen for hours drinking. But Its not helping at all. It is making it even worser.
Her face, her voice, her scent.... Every small trace of her features are stuck in mind even after drinking seven bottles of this useless drink.
"Maybe because I am used to it. I need even larger quantities of these alcoholic drinks to get drunk. I should of listened to her when she told me to stop drinking a lot." I said smiling at the memory of her caring about me. She used to hate my drinking habit.
How can things change this fast. How can everything vanish in a blink of an eye. How can she be pregnant with another man's child. How can she be this way. How can I be this way.
Jk: "She was sooo good for me. I don't deserve good things. I don't deserve her. I gave her for money. I-i ...... Sold her for money." I didn't know i was crying until I saw tears falling of my cheeks. "Why am I even crying. Wasn't me the one who wanted money instead of her." I said quickly wiping my tears away.
"It is all because of you. I hate you. I have never thought you will have a big affect on my life. Why won't you leave me alone even after vanishing out of this world"
Tumblr media
Flash back
???: "Where is the money?! How dare you come back with few dollars only. Didn't I tell you to not comeback home until you bring 50 bucks a day?!" He yelled as he harshly grabbed the young kid from his shoulders.
Jk: "I'm sorry. I am really sorry. No one wanted to buy anything from the water bottles and the gums I am selling. Only few people bought them."  Jungkook answered. His voice trembling. His hands and legs won't stop shaking. His words were coming out as whimpers due to the harsh grip on his meager shoulders.
???: " I don't care!! 50 bucks means 50 bucks. or I swear I won't let you sleep in this house anymore" the man threatened as he pushed him harshly towards the wall. the young Jungkook's body ended up being slammed on the wall so hard that the old wooden door of the cheap dresser opened making a creaking sound.
???: "Now go!! and make sure to don't come back here until you bring money. you need to learn how to live independently I am not staying with you forever. Your mom was like that as well but thanks god she is gone now. But still she left a stupid kid like you for me to deal with." The man said walking his way to the door. he grabbed the handle of it but stopped in mid way due to hearing the younger speaking.
Jk: " It's cold outside I need something to cover myself with. Can I borrow your jacket please or can I maybe go outside tomorrow morning it almost 11:00 pm dad. It's night." he begged as he hugged himself. he was freezing from the cold. him being inside doesn't help at all. The room that he was in wasn't considered a real room. It was a huge shop, which used to be an auto repair shop. There wasn't even something to sit on. How could a father do this to his child. How can't he take care and look after one kid.
It is true that Jungkook said it's cold outside and that's why he doesn't want to go there but in reality he is scared. He is not scared from real things like murdering, killing, being kidnapped. He is still scared of ghosts and monsters. Which is a proof that shows he is still a child and he still thinks about unreal things that every child fears of.
Jk's father: "What did you say softy?? is it that cold to you my baby," he smirked as he moved his way towards his child. Jungkook knew what will happen to him but he didn't move. He hoped that after he is done with him he will leave him there. He won't let him go outside anymore. But little did he know, there is no escape. The old man grabbed the jungkook from his neck, strangling him as he lift his body of the ground. He tighten his grip on his neck. Jungkook's eyes were wide open. He tried to take a breaths but he couldn't. "You are a nobody. I just want you to be gone from my life, I can kill you right now and right here. But unfortunately I still need you. I need money. The only reason why you are still alive is because I need money and you are the only way I could have money without even working." he harshly yelled as he finally loosened his grip on the kid's neck letting his body slam hard to the ground.
Jk's father:  "Do you still want to stay here??!! No??!! Good boy."  he blurted out as he grabbed Jungkook from his wrist and harshly threw him outside. Closing the door afterwards without even giving a final glance towards his 9 years old son.
End of flashback
Tumblr media
"why......why.....why" Jungkook kept repeating the same word on and on. A simple "why" that asks millions of questions. "Why did you do this to me? Why didn't you love me? Why did you treat me as if I am nothing to you? Why did your actions affect me?" Jungkook kept going on and on with his questions. The veins in his arms popped out as his muscles tensed. He started yelling every word that came out of his mouth.
Jk: "Why am I doing what you have done? Why am I like you?! Why! Why!" He yelled as his grip tightening instinctively around the wine glass causing it to broke into peaces. Blood came rushing down his hands and dripped on the floor. His grip didn't loosen one bit, it instead got tighter and tighter.
A loud knock on the door took him out of his states. He didn't budge, only his gaze moved towards the front door. He shifted a little bit on his seat as he laid his head on the kitchen counter closing his eyes afterwards.
He took a deep breath waiting for the person to stop knocking on the door. A growl escaped his mouth when he heard the voice of the person who've been knocking on the door for more than two minutes. But he quickly stood up and walked towards the front door opening it wide. His gaze quickly roamed around not letting it stop on the man standing in front of him. He thought she came back. But she was no where to be seen.
Jk: "Where is she?!" He asked finally looking at the old man in front of him.
Mr.Kim: "We need to talk." The old man nonchalantly said ignoring JungKook's question.
Jungkook moved away letting the old man enter. Both of them walked inside the living room. Mr. Kim took a seat on one of the couches as he unlocked his phone.
"It's 10:33 pm Y/N will be waiting for me so lets talk fast." The old man said making Jungkook ball his hands into fists. His gaze moved towards Mr. Kim's phone making his whole body tense up at the view in front of him. Jungkook closed his eyes tight. *He dares to have her photo as his lock screen* he said to himself opening his eyes again.
Jk: "Where is she?!" Jungkook once again asked as he stood in front of the couch Mr.Kim sat on.
Mr. Kim: "You think she will come back after what you did to her?! She said she doesn't want to see you face. Who even gave you the permission to touch her you bastard." He said glaring at Jungkook. Jungkook's chest felt heavy hearing that she doesn't want to see him.
Jk: "It's none if your business. She is my wife. I can touch her whenever I want too" Jungkook's eyes sharp on him challenging him to say the opposite.
Mr. Kim: "But not for too long" he replayed a malignant smirk on his face.
Jungkook: "What do you mean?!" He asked confused.
Mr.Kim: "I am sure she told you that she is pregnant with MY child" he said, a smirk still on his face. Jungkook's heart sunk at the mention of his wife caring someone else's child. "You have one week to divorce her. I want to marry her sooner than later. I want her and our child to have my name. Kim y/n not Jeon y/n" he continued standing up.
Mr. Kim: "Tell me whenever you set a day for the divorce. And one more thing tomorrow is your first day at work because today is obviously the last day of your vacation that was supposed to be for your honeymoon. So be ready for a big surprise tomorrow. I can't wait to see your reaction." He laughed walking pass Jungkook and out if the house.
Jungkook was standing still. The idea of her not wanting to see him and wanting to get a divorce made him go insane. His breaths were unsteady. He suddenly fall on his knees and crawled towards the couch. As soon as his back touched the couch he brought his knees towards his chest hugging them with his arms. He buried his face between his knees as he kept repeating, "I won't divorce her, I want divorce her..............."

@proximio-5 Asked: Have Wash and Carolina met the girls yet?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Washington, walking alongside Carolina and Weiss on the sidewalk: Well we certainly met one of them. Wait how many of you are there?
Weiss, leading the way towards the pizza place she left Yang and the Reds at: There are four of us.
Carolina, jokingly: Well I sure hope your friends aren't as...rowdy as ours.
Weiss, as the pizza place comes into view: Oh don't worry, We've met the Reds and Blues and I can assure you that we aren't as destructive or as chaotic as these-
Weiss, stopping in her tracks, stunned at the carnage going on at the pizza place: -imbeciles...
*Weiss, Wash and Carolina all stand there in disbelief as they see Adam's unconscious body laying next to Tyrian's poorly parked stolen car, the latter fighting Yang inside the restaurant all the while Grif seems to be shooting at both of them*
Carolina: God...
Weiss:...fucking...
Washington:...DAMMIT!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yang, brawling with Tyrian, before taking a volley of bullet, causing her aura to flicker, her eyes turning red as she turns towards Grif: WHERE ARE YOU AIMING AT!?!?
Grif, reloading his rifle: You said you're super power made you stonger when you take damage right? So by shooting both of you not only am I damaging the scorpion asshole but I'm also powering you up AND saving myself the extra effort it would take for me to avoid shooting you!
Yang, after ducking to avoid another volley of Grif's bullets: Your shots still hurt me you dumbass!
Tyrian, kicking Yang in the stomach, sending her flying into a wall: Why thank you for the assist orange boy! We make a great team you and I!
Donut, still calmly sitting in the back of the restaurant: Huuuuh Grif? I really don't mean to hurt your self esteem, but I don't think you're helping very much.
Simmons, poking his head out of his hiding spot under a table: Yeah I think you should just leave this to Yang Grif, she looks like she knows what she's doing........unlike you.
Grif: Oh shut up! If you're gonna complain then why aren't you two helping!?
Donut, in an innocent tone: I just ate! I need to digest before I do any straining physical activity!
Simmons, retreating back under the table: I-I'm huuuuuuh ALERGIC TO SCORPIONS! Yep thats it! *cough cough* sorry can't help...
Grif: I hate you both...
Tyrian, talking to himself: My my! This is almost as easy as the time I sunk Fairgame!
Tyrian, getting clocked in the face by Yang, causing him to recoil backwards and clutch his face: AAUURGH! WHAT IS IT WITH YOUR FAMILY AND PUNCHING ME IN THE FACE!?
Yang, shrugging lightly as a smirk form on her lips: I don't know. You just have a very punchable face I guess.
Donut, cheering from his seat in the back: Yeah do it again Yang! I love a good fisting!
Literally everyone else inside the building including Tyrian: SHUT THE FUCK UP DONUT!
Donut, offended: Alright you know what? Since its seems like I'm not welcome here, I'm just going to go take a light power walk to help my digestion then!
Donut, standing up with a huff and walking towards the front door: If anyone is looking for me I'll be shopping for essential oils!
*Everyone silently and awkwardly watch Donut as he walk trough the ravaged restaurant, past Yang and Tyrian, and finally, leaves trough the front door*
Tyrian, breaking the silence: Okay can we go back to killing each other now?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carolina, meeting Donut halfway in the restaurant's parking lot, Weiss and Wash at her side: Donut! What in the world is going on in there!?
Donut, in a frustrated voice: Oh you know, just a bunch of MEANIES too busy fisting each other to appreciate my input!
Weiss, getting flustered: E-excuse me they're doing WHAT!?
Washington, apathetically: Just don't think about it. You'll learn to zone out his innuendos eventually.
Donut, slightly choked up: Now if you'll excuse me, I have some much needed theraphy shopping to do. Weiss. Agent Washington. Agent Carolina.
Donut, looking at Adam, whom is still unconscious on the ground: Mysterious man who got ran over.
Donut, walking away: I hope all of you have a good day!
Carolina: Donut wait! We need your help to stop thi-
Donut, not stopping nor turning around, choking back tears: I SAID HAVE A GOOD DAY!
Carolina, turning back to Wash and Weiss: *sigh* Great! Now what?
Weiss, in a serious tone: We need to formulate a plan. Okay...one of us stays out here to cut off Tyrian's escape, meanwhile the other two-
Washington: Whoaaaa whoa whoa! Why are we wasting our time making plans right now? The fight is already going on! Theres no time!
Carolina: Are you saying we should just waltz in guns blazing!?
Washington, as Yang and Grif can be seen fighting Tyrian trough the restaurant's windows behind him: YES! Theres six of us and one of him! We go in. We shoot him. He dies. Simple.
Weiss, in a matter of fact tone: His aura will protect him from your bullets, its not going to be this simple.
Carolina: Also I can see Simmons trembling under one of the table, I don't think he'll be of any help.
Washington, begrudgingly conceding: Alright fine. You both have a point. But we still outnumber five on one.
*Yang comes crashing trough the window, her aura breaking as she hits the ground*
Weiss, crossing her arms sternly: Now its four on one.
Washington, loosing his patience: We. Are. Still. At an advantage! Lets just go in and kill this guy. BEFORE HE KILLS GRIF. Why should we be afraid of ONE GUY!? Does he have a scary special move that shreds armor in one hit or something!?
Weiss, bluntly: He does actually.
Washington:...
Washington: Goddammit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tyrian, after he sent Yang flying through the window: Heeheehee! She's not part bird like her mom but she sure can fly!
Grif, standing dramatically at the other end of the restaurant: Finally. Now its just you, me...and Simmons pissing himself under the table behind me!
Simmons: Please don't remind him I'm here!
Tyrian, flaunting dramatically, with a huge grin on his face: Oh? Think you can take me on your own chubby boy?
Grif, tense dramatic music playing as he talks: Maybe not...I'm not the strongest. I'm not the smartest. But I have the powers of god AND pizza on my side!
Grif, taking aim: Sayonara motherfucker.
*click click*
Grif, dramatic music screeching to a stop as he realises he's out of ammo:.....oooooooooooooooh shit...
Tyrian:Heeheeheeeee.
Tyrian, breaking into a full sprint towards Grif: HeeheeHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Grif, screaming like a little girl as throws his empty gun along with several other objects at Tyrian, whom effortlessly slashes them all aside with his blades: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!
Pizza place cashier, his squeaky teenager voice apathetically calling to Tyrian, causing his blades to stop mere inches away from Grif's visor: Sir your order is ready.
Tyrian, reluntantly sheating his weapons and walking towards the counter: *sigh* Just as I was really getting into it.
Grif, completely frozen in place, as Tyrian casually picks up his coat off the ground, accepts his pizzas from the cashier, then leaves:...
Simmons, coming out of hiding once Tyrian is gone: Phew! Glad thats over! Right Grif?........Grif?
Grif: *faints*
Simmons: Oh great now I'm gonna have to carry you're lazy ass.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carolina, as she spots Tyrian casually walking to his (stolen) car with his five pizzas in hand, Weiss and Wash too busy bickering to notice: Uuuuummmm guys?
Carolina, as Tyrian gets into his car and starts the engine, Weiss and Wash still not noticing: GUYS!
Carolina, taking a shot a Tyrian's car as he drives away, but failing to stop him: Dammit! He got away!
Weiss: See? If we had gone through with my plan this wouldn't have happened!
Washington: No. We could've prevented this by going in and gank him with our numerical advantage! Your "plan" would've just wasted our time!
Simmons, dragging Grif from inside the pizza place: Will both of you shut up and help me carry Yang and Grif!?
Simmons, his sarcasm causing Weiss and Wash to bow their heads in shame: Thanks for the help back there by the way.
Carolina, nodding her head at Adam, who is slowly regaining consciouness: What do we do about him? Should we call an ambulance?
Adam, slowly standing up and rubbing his face: Uuuugh...what the hell happened? *distant polka music* What the fuck is this music?
Adam, turning towards the source of the music as it grows louder, his vision blurry: Is...is this...what is this a puma or someth-
Ruby, as she unknowingly runs Adam over with the warhog, sending him flying in a nearby open manhole, excitedly calling out: WEISS LOOK! SARGE THOUGHT ME HOW TO DRIVE!!!
Sarge, sitting in the shotgun seat, his voice full of pride: And she only burned three red lights! Kid's a natural!
Carolina, in a very tired tone: What did you say earlier about your friends not being destructive?
Weiss, pinching the bridge of her nose: *SIGH*
A View To A Kill - #24WeeksofBond
Tumblr media
This week’s feature is 1985′s “A View To A Kill”.  This would be Roger Moore’s 7th and final Bond performance, and judging by Moore’s appearance in this film, it really was for the best.  Man, am I torn with this one.  I know as a self-proclaimed “Bond Expert” I should hate this movie...take a look at any Bond ranking blog out there and you’ll find the usual suspects rounding out the bottom 5, this film included.  While it definitely has its faults (no pun intended), there is just something so unique and charming about this Bond adventure.  Maybe it’s the horses, maybe it’s the unforgettable May Day character, maybe it’s the Christopher Walken effect, or maybe it’s the way Bond cooks up a killer Quiche...whatever it is, I just can’t help but enjoy myself when I watch this movie.
It all starts with a fun ski chase scene where Bond is out trying to find the body of a missing 003...he finds him and discovers a microchip in his locket.  He must have been on the hunt for Zorin before Bond took over.  Not sure, I may have missed it, but eventually the ski chase scene boils down and Bond picks up a board from his snow mobile that got shot down.  This leads to “California Girls” playing while Bond snow boards his way out of a pickle.  Watching this now - it’s utterly ridiculous and doesn’t quite fit the vibe of the rest of the scene, but when I watched this as a teenager, I absolutely LOVED it and it still brings me back to when I was a kid watching these Bond films for the first time.
We are then treated to a bad ass tune by Duran Duran.  This song is one of my favorites.  When I think of this movie, 2 things pop into my head right away: that California girls scene, and the Duran Duran song.  So far this movie is hitting on all cylinders.
But before we go on with the plot...let’s talk about the elephant in the room, shall we?  Bond is so uncomfortably old in this movie.  It’s a shame really, this movie has a wonderful plot with amazing characters, incredible action, and a killer score, but the only thing a lot of people take away from it is how old Moore is.  I don’t blame them, Moore is definitely a week past the sell by date here and he is still managing to get intimate with a few women.  Eh, I really hate to say it, but it was a different time I guess.  If Roger Moore had been a little younger or if Dalton had taken over this one...I think this movie would be towards the top of Bond lists everywhere.
Tumblr media
Onto the plot...
It turns out this microchip is a copy of a Zorin Microchip that are designed to withstand a nuclear blast.  So Bond is set to find Max Zorin (Christopher Walken) and see if there is anything suspicious.  Well turns out his horses are really good...that’s enough to get a green light from her majesties secret service.  Bond goes to meet some weirdo at the Eifel Tower to talk all things Zorin, but the weirdo gets killed by a poison butterfly toy.  That’s funny to write.  Anyways, now Bond is really on a mission...
The movie continues with Bond going under cover as a super rich and bossy horse buyer with another man from MI6 who is a horse expert.  This part of the movie is just light hearted and fun.  We see Bond bossing “Tibbit” around and schmoozing other party folk, and getting to know all the evil bad guys along the way.  This is where we find out that Zorin inserts these microchips into the horse for an added boost during races.
Not only do we get to admire some beautiful horses, but we also get our first glimpse at Stacy Sutton (Tanya Roberts) who will go on later to be Bond’s helping force in taking Zorin down.  She is seemingly getting a big pay off, for what?  We don’t know yet.  But instead of Bond getting information from her, how Bond usually does, in a steamy hotel on a moonlit night.  Bond finds himself in bed with May Day, and the audience finds themselves uncomfortable with seeing old Moore naked in bed with naked Grace Jones.
Tumblr media
Yeah....soooo anyways....
Like with most Bond movies, the plot always starts out rather simple but ends up being something bigger.  Yes, Zorin is cheating to win these horse races, by steroids and microchip injection...but then we also find out that Zorin is an ex-KGB who is now doing his own thing.  And apparently that thing is to destroy Silicon Valley, taking control of the microchip industry.  We never really find out why he needs this, other than having a monopoly.  But, why do you want a monopoly on the microchip business?  Seems rather lame in my opinion, but it’s Zorin, and he’s got his reasons.
We really don’t deserve a Christopher Walken here, but we get him and its wonderful.  Here is something I’ve never picked up before...apparently the old evil guy Hans Glaub was a nazi scientist who experimented with steroids in pregnant women in the concentration camps.  The women who gave birth, gave birth to kids with extremely high IQ’s but were psycho paths, leading Bond to suspect Zorin was a product of that.  NEVER KNEW THAT BACKSTORY UNTIL TONIGHT!  CRAZY!
Well that definitely explains Walken’s performance.  Christopher Walken does a fantastic job of playing an extremely charming, highly popular public figure, but also a completely sadistic, ruthless killer who finds killing people “neat”.
Tumblr media
On top of having Christopher Walken and Grace Jones as the evil tandem, we get to witness some wonderfully absurd action.  We have a Horse riding obstacle course that Bond must complete with 10 guys trying to knock him off; we have a Fire truck chase scene with Bond hanging on the ladder as it’s swinging through on coming traffic; and of course, the final boss battle on top of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Some pretty awesome stuff here...but man is Roger Moore old.
Not only is this Roger Moore’s last Bond movie, it’s also the swan song for the best Moneypenny ever...Lois Maxwell - who had served as the Bond flirting secretary to M since the very first Bond movie.  Lois had a wonderful career in the Bond series, but she too was getting old.  It only seemed fitting that she and Moore go out at the same time to bring in some young blood.
Despite Moore’s age, and yes I know I’m beating a dead horse (that was an intended pun), but this movie does all it can to make up for it.  There are so many memorable scenes in this film where I simply cannot in good conscious give this movie a bad review.  I would definitely put this movie in a solid place in the middle of the pack, but not bottom 5, I mean come on, Christopher Walken alone moves the movie up 6 spots.
This really was fun to watch tonight.  What did you all think?  Let me know!
Reviews from Friends:
Dan Perch
Bond as St. John Smythe has to be my favorite fake name😂 Walken and Grace Jones were such a cool team to watch!
My Mom
Omg Sam this was the best bond movie and a fantastic write up on your blog. I laughed so hard at your commentary. You have the makings of a professional critic. You just have to fix that “anyways” habit. I can now see how you boys got addicted to Bond. I would put this brisk and boisterous film way up near the top. My gosh you should at the very least give it another half star. I loved it.
Andrew Albertsen
This was always one of my favorites
Jake Benrud
I had some of the same thoughts about this movie! "California Girls"? Really? I also don't think that Bond's knees could take those jumps at his age. It does make it kind of a fun scene though. I have had the "A View to a Kill" song stuck in my head all week. It's one of my favorite Bond songs as well. I also enjoyed the twang of the electric guitar with the 80's version of James Bond Theme song in the action sequences. Grace Jones as May Day was great. It was kind of funny to see the death by the poison butterfly on a fishing pole. I must have missed the connection on how the Nazi scientist who did experiments with steroids in pregnant women ended up being a father-figure to Zorin. Also, how did he become a KGB agent if he was the product of a Nazi experiment? I guess he could have jumped ship to the next "evil empire." Walken played the part well. I liked his laugh just before plummeting to his death.
24 Weeks of Bond will return next Monday with -
Goldeneye
Note
While I don't want Falco to be fed to Mrs. Springer, I take issue with your negatively comparing Jean and Connie against Nicolo or Shadis. Nicolo is an honorary Braus because he dated Sasha, and he has assumed a caring role for the honorary/adopted Braus children. Shadis chose to be the leader of the Trainee Corps and has also assumed care for the trainees. To Jean and Connie, Falco is an enemy cadet and potential Warrior. Both sides use child soldiers. Feeding him to Mrs. Springer (1/3?)
would be entirely just within their world's rules of war. Would you also posthumously condemn Erwin for having fed class after class of recruits to the titans while protecting his friends? Also, I think you're extremely hard on the remaining 104thers by calling them "immature." They're 19, which might be an adult in our world but is still a very young, unfinished adult. They were all child soldiers fighting titans at 15, Mikasa and Armin have additional childhood trauma, and (2/3) Connie of course lost most of his family at 15 and his mom has been a semi-mindless titan for 4 years. IMO they're doing an incredible job trying to process the unprecedented events going on and handle them as best they can. (3/3)
Hey! I felt so disappointed in the 104th this chapter (124). Armin especially. Like, there is so much happening right now but he was more worried about keeping the peace with the warriors. I love Armin but since the time skip I think he's become non complacent maybe? As for Jean and Connie, talking about who to feed Falco to frankly pissed me off tbh. Same anon I know the general consensus in the fandom is that Jean was trying to make sense of the situation, but in my opinion, he was being a hypocrite. Like in chapter 108 he told Mikasa she's wrong for having trust in Eren and wanting to believe in Eren but now jean is the one doing what Mikasa did in 108.  He's trying to justify Eren's actions. And Connie, I get his mother was turned into a mindless titan. Its traumatizing but that doesn't justify wanting to feed Falco to his mom. I'm sorry, but I'm ready to see Connie die. I felt so disappointed in the 104th. But I do think Mikasa had the best response. Which was no response at all. She no longer views Eren in an idealized light, so she doesn't justify Eren's actions because she knows eren has f***ed up. Mikasa was rather more concerned about Falco which I liked. I was ranting a little or maybe a lot? Lol. I'm sorry about that.
Hello anons!
I think your two asks can be used to comment each other, so I am answering the two of them together!
In short, I think that it is important to distinguish between two different ways of reading and relating to characters in a work of fiction.
The first one consists into seeing the characters as proper people, so different people would react to them differently according to their moral systems, triggers and  personal tastes.
I think that both your reactions are rooted into this approach and you both show how it is possible to react to the same characters in almost opposite ways. I think that both your POVs are valid since the 104th’s actions in the latest chapter can be disappointing, but can also be understood if one considers their psychological state. In short, it is not wrong to be angry at them and it is not wrong to empathize with them.
The second approach is to simply consider them as characters aka as beings who are in a story for a specific reason. If snk were not a narrative, it would be understandable if our main casts simply chose to retire and to live happily. However, since we are in a story, it would be upsetting if Mikasa, Armin or Jean simply chose to leave the army and to work in the country-side, while the rest of the world is going to war. They would simply not be in the main plot anymore and I doubt this is what the readers would want when it comes to them. Similarly, it would have been realistic for Annie to simply stay in her crystal forever, but, since she is a character, readers were expecting her to eventually come out and if she didn’t, it would have been a let down.
My latest metas are talking about the 104th as characters and so I am comparing them to Shadis and to Nicolo not because I think these two are better people than them, but simply because the chapter suggests the comparison. The relationship between adults and children is a very important one throughout the series and the chapter explores it once again. To be more specific, the subplot of Shadis and the trainees and of Gabi, Nicolo and Kaya are clearly paralleled since the story jumps from one to the other. In both cases, there are children who risk to die and they are both saved by a person they hurt/tried to hurt (Shadis and Gabi). Finally Nicolo protects Gabi differently from what he did in the past and he repeats Mr Braus’s quote. That quote is about adults protecting children. Here, Nicolo is giving it a more general spin since he is talking about people in general. However, he is doing so to help Gabi and Kaya to understand their contradictive feelings. In short, he is trying to guide the two kids. This is different from what he did in chapter 111 and it is important because in chapter 112 he claims that he is not a man like Mr Braus is. Here, he is showing that he has grown and has matured and that he is trying to be a better person.
In short, both subplots are meant to show us a reconciliation and this reconciliation involves both adults and children growing into their respective roles.
Now, when it comes to the 104th, the story is asking them to grow up and there is no doubt about it. All in all, snk is a coming of age story where kids grow up and face the complexity of the world. This is made even clearer after the time-skip, since we are shown our main casts as young adults and a new generation has been introduced. In short, the 104th are not the kids of the series anymore and they will have soon to accept newer and more difficult roles. This is why the people from the old generation who have guided the main characters up until now are all slowly dying. We have seen it in this chapter as well with Pixis’s death.
Now, again if snk were real, there would be nothing bad with young teenagers not accepting the role of heroes or of leaders of their people, but snk is a story and so the characters must fulfill their role for it to work.
I would also say that I disagree with the first anon’s comparison between Erwin and Connie.
Erwin kept sacrificing comrades both to fulfill his dream and for the sake of his people. What is more, the series doesn’t completely justify these sacrifices and shows how tragic they were and how Erwin himself felt guilty about them. Erwin’s strategic choices might have been correct, but this didn’t make them easier to accept both by others and by Erwin himself. Finally, the tension of Erwin’s arc was between the ideal image he showed people where he was completely selfless and his true human self who was driven by personal dreams like everyone else. The pain of what he perceived as a contradiction was solved in him finally giving up his dream and choosing the common good over himself. This is what gave Erwin peace.
Connie’s situation is different. He wants to bring back his mother because of personal reasons and not because it is a good strategic choice from which everyone would benefit. If that were what Connie was going for, then it would have been better to accept Jean’s suggestion and to feed Falco to Pixis aka the commander. However, Connie’s wish to have his mother back has nothing to do with the current war and is simply a personal one. Connie acting selfishly is highlihgted also by him leaving his comrades and friends to face the titans alone while he leaves with Falco. Jean, Mikasa and Armin all try to fulfill their duty of soldiers, to save their comrades and to protect the civilians, but Connie simply leaves with a prisoner in order to save a loved one. His behaviour is understandable considering the fact that he has clearly been repressing a lot f negative feelings, but it is clearly not one I would call responsible.
That said, it is interesting to notice that his reasons are perfectly understood by Gabi:
Tumblr media
Gabi doesn’t call Connie a monster and understands from where he is coming from because she herself is driven by similar feelings.
In short, I think the narrative is showing understanding for Connie, but his choice is clearly the wrong one and I don’t think he will go through with it.
I would also like to highlight that the current situation with Falco, Connie and Jean reminds me of the serum bowl which is even mentioned in the chapter:
Tumblr media
Like back then, the MC have a prisoner they think to sacrifice in order to save another person and they are even fighting about whom they should save.
Jean argues that they should save the commander exactly like Levi, Hange and Floch did back then.
Connie is on the other hand arguing that they should save a loved one, like Mikasa and Eren did. Connie even lashes out at Armin who in the end was the one saved because of Levi’s personal feelings.
What is interesting is that in the serum bowl there was no-one vocing for Bertholdt being saved. At that time, sacrificing an enemy was something everyone had accepted and the problems was simply between making a pragmatic choice or a more personal one. However, right now Armin and probably Mikasa are not happy to kill a child and Gabi has come to bring Falco back. In short, I would not be surprised if the whole conflict around Falco would be solved in what is basically an inversion of the serum bowl. Neither a pragmatic nor a personal choice is made and the enemy is spared.
As far as the second anon is concerned, I have rambled about the 104th in many different asks, so I advise you to check the tag of the current chapter I will put under this ask as well in order to have more thoughts on them.
Thank you for the ask!
