One of these days I will find Good/Great a Leo goes to Big Mama Separated AU; one of these days.  One of these Days.
#tmnt#rottmnt#even more cool peeps i follow have made and/or started their own separated aus#like darth-sonny at least talked about what they remembered of who went with who in their own version#(darth-sonny who i really like and i love their stuff)#and then there is miniyunart#whose stuff is also quite good#who started their own#i esp. like donnie staying with splinter (which i don't see often.  though darth-sonny also had that so that is cool)#and leo staying with draxum in the forest and i think he was thought to be dead? if i am remembering correctly#and then ended up fighting in the battle nexus to get warriors in order to fight draxum#which is really cool and interesting#esp. since leo is fighting against someone he lived with and cared about and stuff#and donnie being a scavenger#and splinter being super determined to get the rest back is just all very cool#i also liked where raph and mikey are and/or being raised by too; it is different and/or cute#saying all this.  i guess leo does get big mama stuff with him fighting in the battle nexus#but like#i still want a raised by and/or go to big mama almost right away leo okay#i think maybe i have seen one or two like that#but i am not remembering them right now very well#and it is still pretty rare for to find#One day I will find the elusive Leo and Big Mama Separated AU!)#as well as Foot!Mikey separated au that is also pretty elusive too (though darth-sonny had Mikey go to the Foot#so that is cool.#Raph went with Big Mama himself which is nice too and Leo going to Draxum is also fun and interesting to me due to their dynamic in-canon#Anyways I will find that kind and/or kind of separated au someday!  Until then at least I found a couple more Leo (including Rise and 2012#Leo and Future Leo) and Big Mama stuff so that is cool#chat's rambles#chat's tmnt posting

Bonnie!
What's your favorite little unsaid thing that Donnie does for you that you've never mentioned to him before? 👀
@afreakingdork
(This'll be answered with pre-relationship context in mind!) "Oh... Well... There's a couple of things I suppose. The most obvious being that he'll sometimes deck out my tech free of charge."
Tumblr media
"He'll also text me when I've been gone scavenging for loot for too long."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"But what's most surprising is how willing he is to defend my line of work. Afterall, most consider it dishonorable, especially since I'm technically capable of finding other jobs. But he is understanding of my situation and tries to get others to sympathize or at least accept it."
Tumblr media
"He really is... something else."
(Thank you for the ask @afreakingdork ! 💖)

I want to use the Emperor on his golden throne to fry an egg. I’ll be butchered by the Custodes within seconds but it’ll be worth. Emperor fried egg. :)
If the egg ain’t cooked to perfection then I’m using my final breath to Yeet a second egg at his divine corpse/body/being.
So I remember getting this ask and being very confused... but I put this on the backburner for when I would get around to writing yandere custodes and the necromundan scum, that one of them decided to bring home, named smoothie.
@sculptorofcrimson this is your fault/this is the funny one (again my knowledge of the golden boys is very limited/I struggle to write them)
And you lot get to benefit from it @bispecsual @egrets-not-regrets @moodymisty @bleedingichorhearts @liar-anubiass-blog @thevoidscreams @barn-anon
thank you to @squishyowl for the dividers
Tumblr media
Smoothie did not like it here... the clean empty inner hallways left nothing for her to scavenge... no place to get food or drinkable water for miles. It was two days before her golden shadow found her dehydrated as she slipped away from him when he had a chance. Adonis only collected her so soon as they were about to release a small swarm of hormagaunts into the imperial palace for practice and Adonis did not like how easily she could slip from his grasp.
Like recently... Adonis felt his fingers clench and unclench as Nicodemus had jested even at how he must have picked up a mindwiped assassin with how easily she could vanish from his grip. But there was something about her that satiated the itch behind his eyes... it sated the desire to feel a crumb of affection back.
Smoothie crawled through the vents moving on padded knees and wearing thicker gloves as she looks around unable to make marks or else they'll figure out where she's going. Everything seemed to narc on her if she tried to make herself comfortable add her own touch to this gawken gawdy golden glitter glamhouse! She looks around as her body starts to tingle and she is certain that she's getting closer to the radiation.
It makes her body tingle... her nose bleed and she needs to get a bit closer to the source till she feels her teeth itch and then she's in the right spot to cook the eggs she stole from the kitchen. Not like she was gonna live very long anyway and if the glamshow that is Donnie and his brothers just casually relaxing with an open source of radiation then she could die faster making something she loved to eat.
"Adonis." One of the Companions said into the coms with a monotone drone that to Adonis belied a hint of amusement.
"Yes?" He replied going over the mental checklist of places to look for her and she rarely went to the same place twice in succession.
"She's in the vents again."
"Of course she is. Thank you Amadeus." He replied slightly between his teeth. If a companion was telling him where she was... he moved quickly.
She saw her 'lover boy' look at her with the most unamused look in his eyes as she just gave a shit eating grin offering him a radaition cooked egg, "Can I offer you an egg my lord?" She snarked at him as one of her eyes was bloodshot and her nose bleeding from even being this close to the golden throne unprotected.
"If I eat it will you come back willingly?" Adonis asked knowing he could just grab her but he hardly delt with such willful... creatures? She was certainly human... just very different from any other... paramour would be a word but so would obsession fit as equally for what this... itches would be.
"I dunno Donnie... I worked so hard in cooking these." Smoothie says peeling the shell away as she took a bite leaving a smear of the neon green lipstick she wore on the white of the egg.
"Smoothie." His augmented voice shakes the air as he does his best not to order her, because that is not what lovers did. But what the supposed ideal versus reality was also another thing to take into account.vHe watches her frown as blood trickles from her nose. She was so much more willful than any of his other paramours obsessions that it confounded him but also greatly excited him.
He is certain that his beloved Lord would have teased him... But then again he and the others would not feel that itching need so often. The pout on her green lips as she crawled closer to him before just putting one to his lips. He ate it, it was simple as he expected it to be.
"Fine we can go. At least before more of my teeth fall out." She says trying to crawl past only for Adonis to hold her to his chest. He moved quicker than she could out of the vents.
She whined as he took her to a rather unused medical area. As it was time to start some treatments to keep at bay the... Side effects of her lifestyle. Adonis had told her that she would be surprised at how much longer she would live around him. He wasn't going to let her fall apart so soon.

Hissing: tell me about ronin. NOW. Funfacts, day to day life, their relationship with their father, anything! I must know more..
I tried writing this before but it was incomprehensible so I’m rewriting it ok SO
Their relationship with splinter varies with each of them pretty wildly with the differences in their roles and where they primarily front like . Ough my god imma just ramble abt raph for a bit
So raph is basically constantly in the fight mode of the fight flight or freeze response. He was the first person to split and in his mind the reason he split is because Splinter Couldn’t protect them so they just had to protect themself. Because of this he holds a lot of resentment that he isn’t even aware of, because for the majority of his life his only purpose was to Protect The Body, only really fronting during training or fights. If there’s ever a fight and he’s not fronting he’s always co-con backseat driving giving tips and techniques and basically a lot of “BEHIND YOU,” and “TO YOUR RIGHT” but with a bit more colorful language and name-calling. He gets better at this I swear
And because his only purpose was to just, be the fighter, he was also the only one who would Never talk during training, period. Otherwise his brothers would have some light banter, leo would throw around a couple one-liners Splinter would follow suit, or chat during breaks and stuff at the least. But with Raph it was just quiet. Pre-system discovery, these days were splinters “favorite” because it was clear that Ronin was paying attention and focused with the lesson, and the less banter also helped the two of them get better in The Zone. This was not without detriment tho, as after these training days Ronin would be bedridden for sometimes days at a time due to the hours of pure endurance with little to no food or water. Splinter did take notice of this though, and the few times Raph would stop for water or- god forbid- food it was because Splinter forced him to.
Post-system discovery though, there was a week where Splinter refused to let Raph do any training at all to try and break him out of his shell a bit. How well that went is still undecided . He’s a very pissed off angry fellow that one.
Omfg this could so quickly turn into me just rambling abt raph but I'm not gonna he's such a little guy to me.
Ok so with Donnie it's a whole other story, because while Raph is the one whose the most emotionally closed off from splinter, probably because he's the most emotionally closed off one in general, Donnie is the one is the most confrontational with their dad. Confrontational isn't exactly the right word, but i can't think of anything better right now. Basically if Donnie and the rest of them Don't want to do something he's the last resort to be like "yeah fuck you." He gets the job done and works best when they're isn't an immediate threat. He prepares shit, if there's a technique or style or move set they're learning that they haven't done yet he's the first person to analyze it technically and figure it out, then he leaves the rest of it up to his brothers. He's mostly there to help with processing, which means that him and Raph don't often front together, since Raph is much more quick decisions with zero thought, but when they do Boy Howdy. Someone's getting fucked up
And I know I'm talkin a lot about training and fighting styles and yadda yadda but most of their days are just pretty chill. It's just chilling talking with their dad, reading books, looking for shit, scavenging. Especially after they found out abt being plural Splinter decided it was time to cool it down for a lil bit. Omfg I have so much more to say in terms of just general knowledge and fun facts and stuff my GOD. Anyways fun fact is that they were assigned non-binary at birth. Splinter saw this mutant turtle baby and thought "I don't know how to figure out this things sex" and so he didn't

Hmm, what about 2k12 TMNT x child reader who was victim of experiments and turned into a mutant. But like, still kinda looks human
Love your work ^^
Awh thank you!
Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo & child experiment Reader
Tumblr media
Raphael
★ Seeing you for the first time, locked away like an animal made his blood boil. He wants to hurt whoever did this, and to a kid no less! When you saw him you where borderline terrified. Anyone in your situation would be.
★ He tries to keep you calm but when him and his brothers brought you back to the lair all you did was sit in a corner and hide. You watched while a room for you was cleared out.
★ Everyone contributes a little to make your room feel more comfortable. He crochets you some blankets and tries to make you a stuffed animal.
★ He's pretty soft with you. He tries not to yell at you like he does with his brothers and acts like the stereotypical "protective older brother". You're the only one who is allowed in his room without explicit permission. I have a person headcanon that he's pretty good with kids.
Leonardo
★ When he found you he knew that he had to get you out of the lab you where trapped in. But that was pretty easy. Figuring out what to do next was the hard part. You clearly needed medical attention and to be far away from this place.
★ His first thought was to bring you to a hospital, but unfortunately that was off the table considering the circumstances. So he brought you back to the lair.
★ He's seen some pretty messed up stuff, but this takes the cake. His gut feels twisted when he thinks about what you've been through. Thinking about it makes him what to hug you.
★ One of his favorite things to do with you is to teach you how to defend yourself. He considers it a essential skill, especially with you being a mutant. Trouble is bound to find you, even with his entire family looking out for you.
Donatello
★ After Donnie and his brothers brought you back to the lair he wanted to give you a health check. But you were justifiably terrified of his lab so he held off for the time being. The least he could do was check your vitals and temperature.
★ Definitely reads about child phycology after, to try and understand your behavior a bit better. I have the feeling that you came from the foster system because of how easy it would be for you to disappear without anyone noticing.
★ He probably goes back to where he found you and digs up the old log files written by whoever experimented on you. It's disturbingly detailed and makes him feel sick.
★ On a happier note, he makes you some toys to play with. Think those little hamster robot pets from the 2000's, what where they called? Also music boxes and puzzles.
Michelangelo
★ After a room gets cleared out for you he gives you some toys he kept from when he was a kid. Most of the stuff was scavenged, go figure, so it's in pretty rough shape but its still useable.
★ He's probably the one you warmed up to the quickest. His playful demeanor is a big reason why but he's also a try hard who buys your trust with food and games. Plus he makes you laugh, which is a really big achievement. You don't seem to smile much.
★ It takes all of one week before he starts to refer to you as his little sister/brother/sibling. He has to admit, it's nice having a person who looks up to him. He starts to mature a little because of you, but only a little, he's still Mikey after all.

Spinoff, Spinoff!!! 😃 totally no official, and totally not cannon. Just a fan in loved with this Au♡.
It's been a couple of days since Leo found himself in the past. Was he really back in time or was this all a weird dream? Yeah. Yeah! That must be. Leo remembered being rescued by his brothers from the prison dimension, and crossing through a bright orange portal then everything went black from there. Of course! He is probably resting in the medbay, and being taken care of by his brothers. All of this has to be a wacky dream. Besides, if that was the case, being trapped in time wouldn't meant terrible consequences? Like changing the future, creating different timelines, some paradox or whatever. Like, how affected would be his present? Totally Impossible because dreams can't cause problems.
All of this time continuum made Leo's head hurt, good thing he had Donnie for this nerd things. Probably he'll ask him later... when he wakes up... eventually. This makes him question like for how long? It's just been a couple of days he's been here, makes him wonder how long has been out there in his present?
Leo needed to stop think too much about that or otherwise he'll the worst migraine he ever had. He just had to focus on the kids; watch over them while their father is out scavenging for food. Just to think about it made him feel hungry, but also with wanting to go out too. Maybe walk a little, get some fresh air, maybe a pizza from Run of the Mill, and stretch those legs. But he can't, not by the fact that he had a broken arm and leg, but because he had to watch over the tots.
No matter how many times Leo counted: one, two, three. Or repeats: Red, purple, orange. Raph, Donnie, Mikey. There was one that was missing, and that was his younger self. Was he replacing him? Would that be how dreams work? He hoped so, because it won't be nothing cool if a toddler version of him was replacing him in his own present time.
"Should we invite him to play with us?" Suggested the purple coded turtle. "He's been like that for hours. It's kinda worrying." He recieved a couple of nods in response from the other two turtles. The three toddlers had what it appears to be dolls, a little burn, but still good to play with.
"But didn' daddy said he needs westing?" Asked the youngest turtle. He thought that the older turtle might be to tired to play with them.
"He's not even in bed. He might agree to join us. Besides, this could be good opportunity to make him some more questions about our future... and make him stop look so creepy observing the nothing."  The three of them turn to see the blue turtle staring the wall, did he even blinked?
"Yes!" Making sound more the s. "Daddy would be ploud of us for helping. We can be scititifics."
"It's SCIENtifics. And what you meant is Doctors. Which is very different because those are who are responsible to take care of the health of patients and... if you guys didn't want to know you should've said so." Little Donnie was left behind. Didn't take him long to follow them.
"Hello, Mister Leo" Mikey called; made a little pause to make sure if he caught the older's attention. He was startled a little by the jump Leo made. Mikey scared him unintentionally, but a least he take him out of trance. "Sowwy. Would you like to play?" He showed his little doll to Leo. You can tell which doll belongs to who; all four dolls hair (or what is left of it) were also color coded.
The kid was waiting patiently for his answer. When suddenly they heard a voice coming from the entrance. "kids, I'm home." The little ones didn't wait a minute to rush to their father. "Dad. Daddy. Papá." Was heard from the three.
"How are my little ones?" Asked while he gave all of them a hug. Splinter had brought a bag full of old stuff that he distributed to each one. Donnie had recieved a microscope for kids, the lents were cracked but that didn't bothered him at all. He was super happy. Raph recieved a "new" old bear plush, it looks like they sewed it's arms back together, and that was missing an eye and an ear, but that didn't bothered Raph at all. For Mikey, he recieved a book of stickers, the majority were gone but there were still some left. That didn't bothered him, he was also happy like his brothers.
Leo was watching the wholesome scene in front of him. He could remember how happy they were even with the smallest things like this. It didn't had to be brand new nor expensive for the kids to enjoy it. They were really happy with what they got. And even if it wasn't to their liking, they will still showed a smile because their father gave it to them thinking of them, and that was more then enough. Leo almost let some tears.
"And of course, I wouldn't forget about you, Blue." He was brought back from his thoughts. Splinter handed to him what it seems to be a Jupiter Jim comic. Leo observed the comic in his hands in desbeliefe. Not because he had really great comic of JJ, but because he wasn't expecting a nice surprise like this. Not for him. "Oh, I'm sorry. You don't read this things no more, do you? I should've known..."
"I love it." Leo interrupt his father he saw that he was so nervous. He didn't want him to think he didn't like it. On the contrary. It might be simple little comic book, but it was being given with love, that makes it special. "Thanks dad." He gave his dad a small hug. Even if Leo thought it wasn't enough gratitude.
Splinter was a little confused, but he still correspond the hug. "Uhm, sure. Anytime." They stood there for a couple minutes more. "Umm, blue. You could let go now. I need to cook us a meal for lunch time."
"Oh right. I'm sorry." Leo immediately let go. And saw how his father vanished into the kitchen.
"So this means our father doesn't give us anymore presents in the future, huh?" Observant. Leo turn to see that one who was asking. Donnie was who approached Leo to ask. It was only him, the other two stood behind playing with their "new" toys. Donnie seemed sad, but with a little bit of hope to think that he might have a different response from what his thinking. "What are you saying, Don-tron? Of course he still gives us presents. Why wouldn't he?" He lied. They're just six years old, and meaning that they'll stop receiving gifts in two years more. Until their dad enters the phase of depression. Leo didn't want them to know that... not yet.
Side note: I did this in honor to Angel and his amaizing blog/Au. If you liked it, I could continue with the small side, side, non-official, fan story. If not, is also fine, (it's my first time writing a story) I would love to hear some feedback and your opinion.
Thank you for reading 💙

Is there anything Splinter did to the others that even Leo at the time though was too far/didn't like?
Oh, plenty of things. I’ve mentioned a few things Leo regrets before that were BASICALLY entirely Splinter's fault (putting donnie in the corner, making the turtles spar until first blood, that kinda stuff) but Leo would be hard pressed to blame Splinter (at least at the time). Splinter’s kinda gotten in his head in a way where Leo automatically jumps to his dads defense because he understands his mindset so well, and he’s been fed all the excuses Splinter tells himself to justify his behavior.
Also, Splinter has a habit of punishing the others to teach Leo a lesson. For example, if Leo slacks off in training, Splinter might fight one of his brothers as a demonstration. Everyone knows it's not a fair fight, but it’s not about everyone else, it's about LEO. The whole point is that if Leo slacks off and falls behind he’ll be even more outmatched in a REAL combat situation. Stuff like that makes it hard for Leo to blame Splinter, because in Leo’s mind it's HIS fault his brother’s getting hurt.
THAT being said, there is one idea I’ve been batting around about Donnie (yeah he’s my favorite so unfortunately this is about him again.)
So, I’ve been thinking, obviously Donnie wants attention and affection from adults, but plenty of kids do and not all of them are so easy to manipulate/so visibly desperate to get away. And while he is partially based on me and is a slight exaggeration of how easy it’d have been to groom me, I also want to give him some of his own reasons for things. Yknow, like a character haha. ANYWAY enough rambling, here’s the vague outline of what happened:
Around 6-7 years old, Donnie was really stepping into building things, right? Little, simplistic robots and wind up toys and stuff. It’s hard to do that using only tech that’s been dropped into the sewers, but he manages. This is before he discovers the hidden city, too, so his only source of supplies is the sewers. He’d scavenge all day for parts. It wasn’t exactly a safe hobby, but it was fun.
Well, once he needed a part that wasn’t easy to get. Something small, but specific (being vague cause idk shit about tech or building things tbh) and he, being a small child, decided to see if they had anything in the house that would work. He went around asking his brothers, then checked all the communal spaces (kitchen, dojo, living room, etc) and finally ended up finding something that would work! In Splinter’s room! While Splinter was away getting food!
Donnie, once again being a small child, was not subtle in his theft and left multiple signs that someone had been there. Splinter asked which one of them had been in his room, and after a tense interrogation, Leo pointed out that Donnie had been rummaging around the place looking for something so it was probably him. So, Donnie admitted what he’d done.
In response, Splinter grabbed his arm, walked them o Donnie’s room and confiscated every single object Donnie had built. Toys, robots, the whole thing. He also confiscated any usable spare parts Donnie had been keeping as well, so that Donnie would have to start his search for parts all over again.
He never gave them back. No matter how much time passed, if Donnie brought it up Splinter would glare at him and basically shrug him off. Only Leo knows that Splinter destroyed them all, and sold anything useful. Which he only knows because Splinter revealed it to him in a very dismissive, flippant way years later. Leo’s never told his brothers, but Donnie’s figured there’s no way Splinter kept all his inventions.
I think Splinter does similar things to the others, like tear up a comic Mikey’s reading during training, or take Raph’s food and give it to Leo as punishment for Raph stepping out of line, but this was probably the least justifiable and most cruel time he did something like that. Just destroying all of a child's hard work and possessions to prove a point.
I was gonna have him crush all of Donnie’s inventions in front of him but I think there’s a different kind of emotion I wanna explore here. The slow, painful realization that your dad walked with you to your room, told you to stand in the doorway, and then stole all your most important things from you. He picked them up carelessly, not minding if they broke in his arms, and you never saw them again. He’s not ever going to give them back, because he didn’t even KEEP what he stole from you.
Tumblr media
So yeah, no one was happy about that. They were pretty small, but it’s hard to forget something like that haha. Leo can still remember how hard and long Donnie sobbed once Splinter left :)

Somnambulant Soulmates (rise Donnie x gn reader)
Prologue, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
Word Count: 3676
(alright, we’re getting into some good stuff now ;) hope you enjoy!)
Three weeks.
Three weeks had passed since you first encountered that purple clad turtle, give or take.
And they were a blur of fighting and parties and studies and a library and coffee and him.
Donnie, the centrifuge that had been the catalyst of the whirlwind that had become your life. Well, technically his brothers, April, and the rest of the gang were also at fault, but he was the main culprit. The superfluous amount of meetings you’d had with him in your short time knowing him, his intriguing disposition, the whole situation had made it quite easy for him to work his way up to being one of your favorite people.
It had been a few days since you’d seen him. It had also been a few days since you’d left the fortress of your home. Following the hectic event and subsequently less wild ones of last week, you deserved a few days’ break.
But it was time to get back into the fray.
You forced yourself up from where you had been lounging on your bed, prying your eyes away from the ceaseless social media scrolling you had subjected yourself to.
Blinking your sleepiness away, you thought about what you had to do: eat something, first of all, get some water and whatever prescriptions you needed, then message that confounded turtle about his progress on that invention.
Call yourself curious, but you just had to see it in its completion. Also, you were desperately bored. Why not get your social interaction and entertainment in one stop, kill two birds with one stone?
You pulled up the chat you currently had with him but paused before you typed a word.
Sure, texting got the point across, but you were looking for a quick answer, not a typical, joining-the-conversation-hours-later Donnie answer.
Would a call work better in this scenario?
Of course, calls kind of sucked to do, solely because of the whole talking aspect, but it could be quicker. And if he didn’t respond, then you could just send a text.
You clicked his contact and the button to call him, holding your breath momentarily afterward. Hopefully it wasn’t too weird. You meant, you’d never called him before, so maybe you would look like an absolute maniac for calling him now over something so trivial. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea-
“Hello?”
You startled at the sound of a voice over the phone. He’d already answered. No going back now.
“Hey, how’s it going?” you responded as smoothly as possible.
“... Fine? You called?”
“Yeah.”
The conversation fell silent until he spoke up.
“May I know what for?”
“Right! Yeah, sorry, I was just curious about that whole mystic gem-finding situation. Did you find one yet?”
“I have yet to locate and secure any that aren’t currently in use. The project’s also been on the backburner with lair repairs; segue, do you know how many microwaves Leo can break in a week?”
You snickered, though you quickly worked back out of that tangent. “Dude, isn’t your dad- er, wait, your father some kind of alchemist? He probably has something you could use.”
“He likely does.  However, we have what one might call a strained relationship.”
“Oh, you don’t have to tell me about that if you don’t want to-’
“Me and my brothers destroyed his lab and he threw Leo off of a roof.”
“Oh.”
You two went quiet once more. He also broke the silence once more.
“Never mind that, let’s focus on the task at hand: how to obtain a sought-after gem.”
“By destroyed, do you mean made a mess of or..?”
“Absolutely decimated it.”
“Right,” you nodded slowly. “So is it abandoned, and, follow up, would it still have any resources left?”
“Not likely. Scavengers, and Draxum himself, probably made certain that anything valuable was taken care of. But, we could potentially check it out.”
“Hmm, ‘we’?” you asked innocently enough, save for a teasing inflection in your hum.
“Yeah, ‘we’. Unless you’re not interested, which is totally within bounds-”
“I’m free Thursday and Friday, either before noon or at, like, ten,” you cut him off. His surprise was discernible by how quiet he went for a solid ten seconds.
“Right, yeah, Friday works,” he finally conceded. “Would Friday at 23:00 work for you?”
Seriously? Military time? What a punk. “Translate into normal time talk and then you’ll get an answer,” you quipped.
“No need to be rude. Does eleven sound better to your inconsiderate self?”
“Much. And eleven works. Where’re we meeting?”
“Fret not. I’ll send the location.”
Come Friday, following the address brought you to the shadiest place you’d been since April took you into the sewers last week.
Man, your friend group was a whole situation.
The area itself was fine. Domestic, contemporary homes and apartments in a congested neighborhood, standard New York living arrangement. Your dubiousness, however, stemmed from the particular location: a horribly lit, uninhabited, possibly abandoned construction site.
Actually, it would probably be weirder for him to ask to meet you in a normal location with street lights.
You sent a quick text to Donnie, informing him that you were there and possibly telling him to hurry his shell up before stepping into the.dirt-coated lot. As you moved deeper into the area, you noticed a silhouette propped against the side of a big metal container. You squinted at the turned away figure, trying to make out any features.
Typing vigorously, wearing an oversized purple hoodie, hunched over their phone- okay, yeah, that was Donnie.
You quickly made your way over to him, leaning next to him on the container with a loud, metallic thud.
“Hey there, pal,” you grinned, a visible puff of air exiting your lips. Boy, was it cold.
He lackadaisically lifted an eyebrow at you as he finished typing something up on his phone. “Salutations. And refrain from calling me pal; we’re not pals.”
Donnie placed his phone and hands into his hoodie pocket and started making his way further into the shadows underneath the structure of steel beams and bars. You followed suit.
“What are we then?” you prompted playfully.
“Acquaintances.”
“Really? I don’t think people who are just acquaintances travel to literal mystic cities or even the sewers with each other.”
“Well, if you are so well versed on the classifications of relationship statuses, what do you consider us to be?”
“Friends, probably,” you shrugged.
“Probably?” he asked as he started to use a pin from his pocket to draw an unfamiliar insignia on an oddly placed brick wall.
You rested your hands on your hips. “I mean, thinking statistically about it, we’re probably friends.”
“In what universe does statistics have anything to do with this situation?”
“Ion’ know. You’re supposed to know about the science-and-math-y stuff. I’m just moral support.”
“No, you’re just throwing mathematical terms around haphazardly!” he exclaimed, gesticulating with his free hand.
“I probably am.”
His eye twitched. Before he could iterate his disdain for your insolence, the design he traced on the wall began to emit an electric blue shade. A static buzz entered the air, creating a warm, fuzzy feeling around you. Not comforting, though. It was reminiscent of the portals you’d encountered just last week.
Abruptly, a swirling amalgamation of light and energy came forth before you, small bursts of lightning zapping periodically.
Huh. You were right. Portals.
“Does this lead to that lab?” you asked, peering at it curiously.
“What do you say we find out?” Donnie gave a lazy grin before coolly stepping backwards into the portal.
You gawked. The audacity of this man to invite you adventuring and then leave you high and dry was astronomical.
That left you with two options: get out of there and have a cozy night in or follow him into a suspicious portal. Which, come on, you already knew what you were going to do: tail that turtle and make him rue leaving you behind like that.
With a roll of your eyes, you stepped, or fell, more so, into the portal, and that’s when things went loopy.
Your surroundings melted into a zero gravity tunnel of blue, insides churning in a manner akin to the swarm of colors around you. Everything looked distorted, warped into only sensations, and after moments of free fall and whiplash and weightlessness you plopped rather unceremoniously onto a brick path.
Somehow, the area you ended up in was even loopier than that.
For starters, the sky was a washy mix of apricot and slate and a golden color. Next up, and quite likely most pressingly, was the gigantic structure sitting before you. A short, rocky path trailed up to a floating cylindrical building, the size of which rivaled every building you’d ever seen in New York. The building was bathed in green light, had a balcony- and did you mention FLOATING?
“Holy-” You couldn’t help but go slack-jawed, earning a smug expression from the turtle.
“Mmhm.”
“Where are we?” You looked at the vast area behind you, the fiery orange sky littered with floating edifices and vessels and creatures of all varieties.
“Welcome to the Hidden City, my associate-”
You interjected, “-friend-”
“-entourage,” he corrected with the raise of an eyebrow.
You let it slide, not looking to lower your status any more. “Touché. Continue.”
“The Hidden City, a subterranean city-state far beneath New York City and home to the laboratory of former warrior-alchemist Barron Draxum,” Donnie introduced with a flourish of his hands.
You released an amused puff of air. “You feel good about letting out your inner theater kid?”
“I feel great, actually. But there’s no time to dwell on that. Onward, to exploration!”
He was really in full theatrics tonight, but you didn’t mind indulging. Lightly shaking your head at him, you joined him in moving up the path to the towering golden archway at the front of the building.
The door opened creakily, unsturdy on its hinges, shedding light on a decrepit, dust-ridden foyer. Large tapestries and artworks strewn about the halls were coated so thickly in dirt they almost couldn’t be made out. You shot him an uncertain look.
“Like I said, don’t keep your hopes up,” was all Donnie said in response before continuing down the dim corridor. You stalled, still weary about the condition of the building, before swiftly catching back up with him.
As you worked your way into the dark, desolate lab, Donnie lectured you on safety precautions. “Don’t touch anything unless it seems nonlethal and productive. Actually, just don’t touch anything.”
“So, I can’t open any drawers or anything?” you sassed.
He deadpanned. “You know what I mean.”
“Semantics matter, D.”
“Not really- fine, whatever. Let’s get to exploring,” Donnie conceded, excitedly flicking his goggles down with a smirk.
It was an instinct, really, that you clasped a hand over your mouth and terribly concealed a laugh upon seeing his goggle-covered eyes.
He stared at you blankly. “What?”
You waved your hand in front of you to dismiss yourself. “I’m sorry- I’ve just never seen you in the goggles.”
“I’ve worn them during every interaction of ours.”
“No, I mean like on your eyes. It makes them look all beady.”
“Wow. I appreciate that.”
You quickly defended yourself. “In a good way! It’s not bad, just different.”
“Ah yes, ‘beady in a good way’. I’ll log that one in the books.”
“Seriously, I thought they looked cute.”
He looked taken aback, lips pursed and face warm at that assertion.
“Not like that. Like an objective kind of cute.” You shook your head in disbelief at the words you were spewing. “Actually, nevermind. Forget I said any of that.”
“Agreed.” He rolled his eyes and set to work scanning shelves and drawers for any traces of the mysticism you were pursuing. For his sake, you didn’t mention how the pink tint on his face didn’t disappear until minutes into your guys’ search.
The search ended up unsuccessful. Sure, while scouring shelves and cabinets and odd cages around the spacious laboratory you found a whole lot more than you would expect in an abandoned building - elements in sealed jars, flasks of what seemed to be potions or ingredients - but nothing close to a crystal or gem.
After working your way around the room, you looked up at Donnie.
He shook his head and walked over to you. “It appears the lab’s a bust for any type of crystal. Not a total loss, though.” He held up a container labeled ‘emp.’ before one of the mechanical hands from his battle shell stored it for him. Another of the hands gave your shoulder a reassuring pat.
You shook your head. “No, we’re getting you a crystal, man.” You paused, thought of an alternative. “Are there any stores or markets nearby that might have them?”
“Ohmigosh, you are just full of great ideas.” You and Donnie began moving back toward the front.
He sounded like he might have meant that, but his voice was still startlingly monotonous. You narrowed your eyes, put your head askew. “For real?”
“Yes, this time,” the turtle nodded before excitedly gliding back down the entrance’s stairs.
You laughed, following along. “This time?”
“Surprisingly enough, yes.”
You caught up to him and landed a firm, still playful jab to his side.
“Just stop yapping and take us there.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After what felt like eons of continuous motion, you two made it onto the streets of the Hidden City.
Brightly colored banners, advertisements, decorations, adorned lampposts all up and down the streets, though you avoided certain battle-themed ones. Multitudes of languages and dialects could be heard all around. The smells of delectable foods wafted through the air, sweet, savory, spicy, but you couldn’t pay them any mind. You were on a gem-hunting mission. Even if it wasn’t going very well currently.
The merchant running a crystal stand was slumped over on their counter, boredly staring at the customers that had been occupying their business for minutes on end without making a choice i.e. you and Donnie.
You raised an index finger at a particular pretty purple gem sitting in a pile of other ones on the counter of the stand.
Donnie flicked on his goggles and shook his head. “Uh, no. Not remotely. We’re looking to avoid overcurrent; that thing has enough mystic mojo to wipe out half the city.”
You slowly placed it down. “Oookay then. Glad to be of service,” you muttered.
He pursed his lips at your interesting body language. Slumped shoulders, hints of dejection in your voice - you weren’t having fun. Maybe it was because he immediately turned down the last five of your suggestions, but who could definitively say why?
“The issue is that you keep grabbing crystals that emit cool colors, which, as you know from the electromagnetic spectrum, correlate to a higher frequency. We don’t want that. So, as much as I would enjoy a violet crystal to match my ambience, something with a less vibrant, warmer hue works best.”
You slowly digested what he just said. Cautiously, your hand crept back to the merchant’s display and selected an auburn gem.
“That one’s frequency is too low-”
“Of course it is.”
“-but you’re on the right track! Try a little further down the electromagnetic spectrum-”
“What, something like this?” You gestured toward an amber gem that was near the bottom of the pile, exasperated.
Donnie hummed. “Actually, yeah. That’s just fine.”
“Really?”
“Shhh,” Donnie waved a hand telling you to calm down before pulling you aside. “There’s no fixed price on the signs here. If we seem too excited or gullible-”
“We get duped?” you guessed.
“We get duped. So stay cool, and let me handle this.”
Donnie cracked his knuckles and turned back to the stand, professionally ready to bargain and deal with the price.
He still ended up paying a ridiculous price for the small gem’s size, but you didn’t know if you’d ever seen him grin so proudly, so you didn’t say a word about it.
The first time you spoke up after the deal was made was after passing by a food cart and hearing your stomach rumble.
Donnie almost kept walking without you before you loosely clasped onto his wrist.
Puzzled, he turned back to you.
“Would you want to get something to eat? Like, while we’re down here,” you asked.
He pursed his lips. Just as he opened his mouth to retort or deny the requests, you were both hit with a wave of the most scrumptious food you’d smelled probably in your entire life.
“Okay, you have to admit that smell is heavenly,” you looked at him knowingly.
“I don’t have to do anything, but those do look fire.”
You gave him the best pleading look you had, and you could pinpoint the exact moment he caved in.
“Alright, we can take a quick detour from the exit.”
“Heck yeah! You rock, no correlation to geology,” you winked, adjusting your grip from his wrist to his hand so that you two wouldn’t get separated from you charging through the crowd.
And charge through that crowd you did.
Donnie in tow behind you, you bounded through the crowd excitedly, scarcely avoiding collisions all over.
However, the complaining Donatello in hand and sweating were inconsequential compared to being in line for a brand new type of culinary experience.
You were practically buzzing with joy, so excited that you momentarily forgot to relinquish Donnie’s hand. You still did though, just a moment shy of awkwardness.
You had made a good deal, had good company, and were about to have good food. What more could you want?
Still beaming, you felt your phone buzzing in your pocket and pulled it out.
The smile on your face quickly receded as you checked who was calling.
“Just a moment, I need to take this,” you muttered before slipping out of line and off through the crowd.
Donnie froze. He didn’t like the fact that whoever called seemed to ruin your mood, nor the idea of you being alone in an entirely unfamiliar city.
Reluctantly, he relinquished his spot in line - which was painfully close to the front, might he add - to find you.
It took a moment of weaving left and right, dodging up and down through a flurry of wings and tails for him to find the space between two buildings that you had moved yourself into.
Not wanting to intrude, he stood right outside the small alley, listening in by a complete coincidence. Certainly not out of nosiness in the slightest. Nope.
Anyway, he only got close enough to hear you mid-sentence.
“-you serious? Now, I don’t know if your section of New York is in a different time zone, but for me right now it is way too dark and way too late to be calling for conferences.”
A pause. Scraggly sounds faintly sounded from the other side of the call, not that he could make out an inkling of it. You, on the other hand, understood it all too well.
“Obligatory? Yes, I know what obligatory means, I just find the notion of a required meeting kinda dumb- Sorry, I mean extremely dumb.”
Another pause of you presumably getting chewed out passed before you, begrudgingly, grumbled, “Ugh, if you insist. Be there later.”
The phone call ended after that, and Donnie had no clue what to do.
Walking in normally could make it seem like he was eavesdropping, which he was but he didn’t want you to know that, but he couldn’t just stand still either.
After some careful contemplation, Donnie looked around and stumbled (definitely not purposefully) into the alley you were in. He seemed somewhat concerned; he hadn’t seen you that perturbed before.“Is everything alright?” he muttered vaguely, not wanting to overstep.
“Just yelling at my… mother’s urn- Anyway, once again, I have really got to go, this has been really fun, we should do this again sometime, am I missing anything else?” you joked lightheartedly. Thankfully the mood, along with Donnie, followed your attitude shift.
“I feel like a ‘thanks, you’re the best’ may be due,” your companion urged jokingly.
“Thanks Donnie, you’re the best.”
He huffed. “Kidding. I was kidding.”
“I wasn’t.”
For a probably too long moment, he made eye contact with you and your startlingly genuine eyes. Eventually, he tore his gaze away and cleared his throat. “... Let’s get you back to the surface.”
The trip back to the site of the portal was mostly silent, just the two of you trekking shoulder to shoulder through crowds of characters, before you entered the vertigo-inducing light once again.
The wind bit harshly at you as soon as you landed back on New Yorkian ground, an unkind reminder of the end of your adventure.
You blew a puff of warm air onto your hands and almost started walking on instinct before Donnie spoke, reminding you of his presence.
“Are you alright going back on your own?” he questioned quietly, almost coyly.
“I mean, I made it here on my own. I think I’ve got it covered.”
“Oh. Okay,” he concurred with a nod before giving you a pair of thumbs up. “In that case, make it home safely. Text you later?”
“Later,” you agreed emphatically. With one more nudge of his arm and a pivot in the other direction, you were off, out of the construction zone, on the sidewalk, down the street.
As you moved toward your destination, the skyscrapers and towering structures lining your path grew taller, more opulent, more lavish. Insignificant residentials morphed into substantial, old money commercials. Your heart rate climbed.
You paused in front of the grand doors of your location and took a deep, steadying breath. It was just some quick business you had to take care of. Brief. Inconsequential. Everything would be fine.
With some renewed confidence, or at least some semblance of it, you pulled on the handle and swiftly entered the hotel’s lobby.
The door closed thickly behind you with a thud.
Resonate. Absolute. Irrevocable.
the thing about scully's horror at some of their cases. it's always something that strikes her deeply. either personally, professionally, or as a woman.
in irresistible, it's that pfaster desecrates the dead. the people she autopsies to tell their stories. to help them. it's too late to save them, but she can bring them justice. what she does is sacred. i think of this:
people don't stop mattering, don't stop needing help, just because they stop being alive.
-maura isles in "warm milk" by YoDrDeath
scully cares about the victims in the cases they investigate. they are the people who matter. preventing more deaths is the goal. and donnie pfaster is evil incarnate to her. it's something she can't fathom. then he takes it further, starts murdering to scavenge from women's dead bodies. so much violation. such hatred for women. a level of disrespect that cuts away at her. men take away women's autonomy all the time, that it should continue after death is unthinkable.
in 2shy, the man might have a biological imperative to kill. but he didn't simply kill. he targeted women specifically. preyed not only on their bodies, but their minds. he liked stalking them, softening them to him before brutally murdering them.
(tooms really seemed to kill as a biological imperative, but he did also seek revenge on scully + mulder)
in unruhe, she didn't care what schnauz's reasoning was. the result was still undue violence against women, stealing their minds & lives from them. in the end she "empathized" with him because she had to. she used everything mulder said about him, made the connection to his sister. the way gerry likened all these women to his sister. and the killings started shortly after his father passed, the man who abused his sister but gerry couldn't accept that. violence against women because men could never do anything wrong, or harm women. and he takes up the mantle in a very twisted way. violently, painfully lobotomizing them. as a doctor, she was sickened. medicine is meant to heal & improve quality of life. not steal people's minds & destroy any quality of life they could have.
then within the government/alien conspiracy. her abduction, the abductions of other women. having a chip implanted in them for untold reasons. to track them, to lure them to their deaths. cancer given to these women for reclaiming their autonomy. medical rape, ova stolen to create hybrids for a new race. autonomy & future children stolen. children sentenced to short, painful lives for science. and science is scully's strongest guide. it offers safety & answers, and at the same time, in the world she's entered with mulder, creates so much pain & loss & grief. violation after violation, all of it done against women by small, pathetic ego driven men with power & money they don't deserve and didn't earn. it sickens and terrifies her. it's a grim reality. it makes her distrust skinner. a man who has had their backs, a man she saved, the only one besides mulder who cared about melissa's case. she didn't know, but he also gave his life to csm to get the cure for her cancer. in the end, with mulder abducted, he was right there with her.
Welcome to my merged tmnt AU that’s very weird and doesn’t make sense
So, the premise is that somehow the 2k3, 2k12 and rottmnt universes are merged together.
The three Hamato Yoshi’s are related to each other. How? You may ask. I don’t know but I do know that they’re brothers with an age gap I don’t know the length of and that 03 Yoshi got separated at one point and ended up on the streets and taken in by the Ancient One and the story goes as usual.
So, I basically remember nothing about the clan situation with 12 Yoshi. Only that Saki rebuilt the Foot Clan after incel angsting or something. But maybe the Hamato clan had some mystic branch or whatever and Lou got to know about the Demon Shredder (separate dude from Tengu Shredder (also just now realized that this would mean that somebody decided to name Saki after the dude that got possessed (also a complete separate dude from the dude possessed by the Tengu Shredder))) if that’s how he knew about that I do not remember.
But basically everything goes as usually, but only with 12 Yoshi and Lou awkwardly sometimes going “hey bro” because they’re very distant (don’t even know each others fav colors)
Then the reasons for going to New York happen. But when 12 Splinter mutates, the man of course spends some time on the streets, and during that time he tries to get in contact with Lou but it doesn’t rly work bc he doesn’t have his actual number and Lou’s agent or whatever shoots him off. So some time goes by, eventually a bit over 7 (the 12 turtles are 8) years. And one day while scavenging 12 Splinter comes across semi-newly mutated Lou and the 4 baby turtles, there some pointing and confusion (and panic) but they calm down. 12 shows Lou to his place where the 4 8yr olds spend their time immersed in studying the babies or whatevs. During that time 12 & Lou talk and somehow realize who both of them are.
As for the 03 side. Oh boy are you in for a treat. Bc— hold on I have to re-do math bc the rise turtles have actual ages.
Oh boy are you in for a treat, bc when 12 turns 9, the 2003 show starts off. And by that I mean everything. The alien invasion, mutant outbreak (Donnie possibly getting blasted on every TV in the world (maybe it was just the UN, who knows)), the turtles getting blamed for kidnapping the president. The literal apocalypse in s5.
Imagine being 12 Splinter and Lou during that time, lol. Trying to huddle with the kids by the TV watching 5 dragons have a battle over the city. By the end of the 03 series I’d like to think 5 years have gone by, that’s includes the FF time skip. So the 12 turtles would be 14yrs old.
The 12 series would start off when they’re 15, 03 21yrs and rise being 10, 9 & 8
After this I have no idea. But all the turtles would meet at some point. No idea how or when but at some point. I can’t get the idea of how 03 Splinter is technically 12 and Lou’s nephew and the turtle their grand-nephews out of my head.
Here’s a graph that doesn’t have 0 as a time indicator bc fuck that.
Also this whole thing was born from me loving the idea of 03 Splinter being 12 and Lou’s nephew and the turtles their grand-nephews
Tumblr media
Also I have no clue abt the whole Oroku Saki situation— wait no. I do. 03 is using the fake name bc of the (tengu) story/rumor. 12 is just named that and I surprised by the famous business man 03 Oroku Saki having the same name as him. And rise is dead.
Also it’s now 6 am and I have not slept, curse you great tmnt crossover fanfiction!
Were there any experiments that could have risked Three's life?
There were, but Draxum knew what he was doing for the most part. Most of the testing started out monotonous and endurance based. It was only as Three grew older, and Draxum grew more desperate to gain headway on his research that he pushed the experiments past what Three could handle physically and mentally.
The vivisection was the worst, because of the pain, and because Three didn’t follow Draxum’s aftercare instructions and a whole plastral scute had to be replaced when infection set in. It’s probably the most rebellious thing Three had ever done but the consequences were bad enough that he learned his lesson.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Draxum is a lot worse than in canon so there’s not a lot of happy memories…but I think I’m gonna slightly edit something I’ve said earlier, which is that Draxum doesn’t validate Three’s intelligence at all. The more I think on it, the more I think that would be about the only thing he finds Three useful for, after he finds him lacking in the “warrior” aspect. For as much of a disappointment in the physical department Three can be (which doesn’t mean Donnie is weak—just that Draxxy is hard to please), Draxum will admit that the boy is a genius. It’s just the way that Three’s smart which Draxum can’t stand. Three uses too much scavenged, human material in his tech, and while Draxum grudgingly allows it, he refuses to give it any praise. It frustrates him to no end that Three seems to reject studying mystic sciences.
It still doesn’t stop Three from seeking out Draxum’s input, and constantly being disappointed when his tech gets verbally (and sometimes literally) ripped to shreds. Pretty much the only area where Three gets any actual, validation from Draxum, are the bombs and munitions Three makes to supply Draxum’s resistance budies. Everything else is just him not living up to his full potential and wasting his time.
Tumblr media
This is just gonna be the nature of this AU, but I’m really leaning hard into the villain aspect of these three. I’m hoping to still give them nuance, But I’m going all in, where each of them is pretty deplorable in their unique own way.
Big Mama was very doting on Mikey, but I think it was more along the lines of her viewing it as being amused by a new pet. I mean she full on dated and had a relationship with Splinter for who knows how long, and had no problem throwing him to the wolves, and I loved that about her. In my AU she’s whatever she needs to be to get what she wants, dialed up to eleven. She has zero problems putting on that mother of year mask for Mikey, because he was cute and entertaining, but the moment she realized she could make a pretty penny off of him by discarding him, she does. So what if she keeps the paintings Mikey made her, up in her private office, nobody has to know.
Draxum is relentless in his mission, and Three is the best tool he currently has to see those ends met. He doesn’t care how much strain it seems to put on the boy—he should be able to handle it. Draxum does not make creations that break so easily.
Shredder does show pride in Leo’s prowess as a fighter, and even though his praise is hard to earn, he does let his student know when he’s done a good job. On the flip side, he’s got no problems punishing Leo for his failures. Shredder is very clear in his expectations for Leo, unlike Draxum who never seems to be pleased by anything. In Shredder’s mind, Leo is his perfect weapon.
Tumblr media
Draxum had seen Mikey fight in the battle nexus so he knew about him and just didn’t have the means to take on Big Mama, but when he finally meets Raph and Leo, he’s so frustrated that they’ve aligned with humans and refuse to listen to reason. Despite trying to get them on his side they want nothing to do with him, and what’s worse they’ve poisoned Three against him. He’s already poured so much time and resources into Three and look how that turned out. If they won’t join him, he’ll either find some way to turn them against the humans or he’ll destroy them. They’ve caused him enough of a headache.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m still on the fence about Shredder’s entire backstory. I know he’ll have been raised by the Hamato Clan but I’ve never been a fan of the whole love triangle—you stole the woman I loved and I’m gonna refer to her as an object—thing. I think him turning to more violent methods and then learning his true origins is enough of a wedge to drive between him and the man he thought of as a brother. Which leads me to Karai.
I’m not using 2012 Karai cause it would be kinda redundant with Leo’s role. So I think I’m gonna use gram-gram Karai…I just need to figure out…how. I’ve got some ideas, it’s just working out the details of, okay I changed Shredder so he can’t be her father, do I want her to still be dead? Be a guiding spirit for Leo? Do I want her to be brought back to life? Or maybe it would be cool to expand on her connection with April—cause the show gave us this awesome idea maybe I could explore that more? Idk. I just know I do want her to have a bigger role. I’ve got some time tho to think on it.
As for Bradford and Xever they might make a short appearance down the road, but as of now I’ve got solid plans for certain characters and I don’t wanna throw too many shrimp in the pot, ya know? If I can think of some role for them to fill, then they’ll get some actual time but for now they’re relegated to Easter egg status like Bebop and Rocksteady lol.
I'm sorry if I'm bothering you with all these questions and feel free to ignore these if you'd like
1) You mentioned that Donnie had been fostering Shelldon since he was about two years old (more accurately 3 years of fostering). Has Shelldon always called Donnie Dad? What was Donnie's reaction when Shelldon first called him Dad? Do any of the other turtles have kids of their own?
2) Were the turtles created the same way in the show or a different way? Why was there a mutagen bomb? How did it get there? Did Draxum have something to do with it?
Once again love your art and the whole concept of this au!!!
Please never feel like a bother! I enjoy answering these and getting to talk out the ideas in my mind !!
1. Shelldon did not always call Donnie "Dad", it took him about six months to get comfortable at the beginning of his foster. He probably didn't call him it until he was ~4 years old while being dropped off for preschool and he threw out a quick "Bye dad!!" while running off to class.
Fortunately Donnie didn't have any classes until 2nd period that day, because he spent the first hour of school wailing on the phone to April about it (/pos).
2. The turtles were mutated in a similar way as in the show, but if you've ever read time-woods' rise comic, our Splinter saves Draxum from the OG lab explosion and he gets a redemption arc. They end up raising the turtles together away from a like of crime-fighting, instead working towards better human-mutant-yokai relations.
The mutagen bomb was caused by an entirely separate group. Draxum had no active part in it, but the group that caused it had scavenged stuff to make it from Draxum's decrepit lab.
Why Am I Like This?
Mikey gets really bored one day and decides to play with Raph's shiny new toy, despite being told several times not to, and breaks it.
Raph does not take this well.
Ao3 Link
Mikey was bored.
And not just regular, every day bored, nonono. This boredom was the mind-numbing and annoying type– the type that left you paralyzed and unable to think of anything to do, but Mikey had to do something.
He could practice with his nunchucks, but ever since he was downgraded to foam instead of wood, it just felt like a joke. Sure, he liked whirling it around, but Master Splinter always said this was supposed to be for self-defense, not fun, so playing around was strictly forbidden.
He could just reread his comics again, but while Splinter had gone for a scavenge recently, he didn’t bring Mikey anything of interest, other than those finger skateboard things. He’d already played with that thing to death, so that was also a total “no-go”.
Now, he could try and hang out with Leo or Raph or Donnie, but Donnie was busy trying to find a way to recharge lightbulbs, Leo was watching the second season of Space Heroes for the bajillionth time, and Raph was doing one-on-one practice with Splinter, so that wasn’t happening.
Mikey groaned, flopping his head into his pillow for the billionth time. “If only Leo liked a different, cooler show,” he sighed dramatically, before sitting up.
On the topic of “different” and “cooler”, Raph had been given a super special super cool still-in-box action figure of Aspara-Gus from Fantastic Four Food Groups. Mikey would’ve totally claimed it for himself, but he hadn’t heard Splinter call for him until Leo knocked on his door. From what the box claimed, it was supposed to light up and say up to six catchphrases! Mikey had been sooooo jealous, but Raph said he couldn’t play with it.
Wait– no. What he specifically said was, “Mikey, if you touch my Aspara-Gus, I’ll turn you into a pulp.” Classic Raph.
But– like… it wasn’t like he’d know. He was busy training with Master Splinter! Plus, he heard Raph open it up earlier, so it was practically begging to be played with!
Mikey grinned, hopping off his bed and bolting to Raph’s room, before opening his door all ninja-like and finding the bright green action figure sitting right on his bed next to a broken red car toy that was missing two doors.
Mikey practically had stars in his eyes as he admired the nearly mint condition of the doll, with its see-through green sparkly plastic and smooth edges. He giggled with excitement before pressing the little green button on its side.
“Eat your vegetables, kids!”
Mikey’s face felt flat and he tried again.
“You’re no match for the power of vitamin K!”
“Man, why does Raph even like that stupid comic,” Mikey muttered and gave it one last try.
“It’s Aspara-Gus to the res–” the phrase was cut off by a sudden, ear-piercing shriek.
“ACK!” Mikey immediately covered his ears, before getting the idea to try and smother it with Raph’s pillow. That it didn’t work well enough, the sound still splitting his skull. Out of desperation and panic, he sat on top of the pillow, which finally muted it enough so the pain stopped.
“Whew, that’s a relief,” Mikey wiped off non-existent sweat from his forehead. The ten-year-old continued sitting on the pillow until the faint ringing finally stopped, and he got off, picking up the figure again and–
Uh oh.
Apparently, sitting on pillows over action figures could cause their arms to break off. Who knew?
“Well… at least the toy was busted anyway…?” Mikey laughed nervously. He knew that totally wasn't gonna be good enough for Raph, though, and he'd totally flip when he found out.
“Okay, well– maybe I can fix it! Yeah! I just gotta pop that bad boy back on; it’ll be good as new,” Mikey picked up the action figure and arm and tried reconnecting the broken pieces, but alas, it wasn’t a simple “pop off”. Instead, the hinge had cracked into two and without both pieces being together and stable, there was no point attempting to reattach it.
Shin splints, he was totally screwed.
“Yeah, yeah, be right there, Leo,” Mikey heard Raph call from not too far, causing him to panic and hide the evidence under his brother’s pillow before booking into his room where he caught his breath. Once that was all in control, he put on his coolest, most calm-est and collected-est face he could manage and walked super, duper casually to the pit and sat next to Leo, catching only a casual and cool glance at Raph.
“Oh hey, Mikey! Whatcha been up to,” His eldest brother smiled.
“Ohhh, you knowww,” Mikey tried to wave him off, fidgeting with his knee pads anxiously.
“Oh, well, I was just waiting for Raph to start the new episode of Space Heroes, since it's his favorite and all,” Leo gave him a weird glance before turning back to the TV. “It’s the one where the Dr. Mindstrong goes back to his home planet and meets up with his–”
Leo rambled on for a little bit, which Mikey usually liked listening to, but right now he was way too on edge. He just kept glancing back to the hallway to their bedrooms and waiting for his inevitable doom.
“–smiles! He actually does! But Raph just likes it for the fight scene at the end, I dunno. What do you think?” Leo asked Mikey, who quickly tried to act like he had been paying attention.
“My favorite episode is still the one where the dude grows a beard and the vampires,” Mikey decided to say.
Leo laughed. “That’s my favorite too.”
“What can I say? I have imbeccable taste,” Mikey grinned nice and wide.
“It’s impeccable, Mikey,” Leo laughed more, which Mikey joined in to cover the fact he said that by mistake.
However, the laughter couldn’t last long, as there was a ground-shaking slam and angry stomping into the living-area as Raphael–
Oh frick–
“MIKEY!!!” Raph shouted, face almost as red as his mask.
“Eep! Save me, Leo!” Mikey jumped and ducked behind his eldest brother.
“Wha–? Raph, what did Mikey do?” Leo looked around all confused.
“Oh, I’ll tell you what the little punk did,” Raph growled, only getting closer and closer. “He broke my brand new Aspara-Gus!!!”
Leo gasped, turning to his brother. “You– you didn’t actually…?”
“I-it was an accident, I swear! I-I was just–” Mikey tried to defend himself, but didn’t get a chance as Raph practically tackled him and the two started wrestling.
“It was brand new, Mikey! Right outta the box and I told you–I told you you weren’t allowed to touch it!” Raph shouted at him, despite being inches away.
“It was already broken, man! I-It made a high-pitched screechy noise– I was trying to fix it!” Mikey pleaded tearfully, trying to kick his brother off of him, landing a hit right in the plastron that winded him.
Mikey would’ve scuttled away, but Raph managed to grip his arm tight and twisted it until Mikey was on his knees begging for him to stop.
“I always tell you not to touch my stuff! And you always do! Are you deaf or just a stupid, dumb little idiot?!” Raph growled and twisted tighter.
“I’m sorry, okay?! I-I didn’t mean to–! I just–”
“GOD– you just always do this! You’re just– you’re just so stupid and annoying and useless– why do we even keep you around when all you do is break our stuff–”
“Yame!” the commanding voice of Master Splinter rang from the dojo, and Raph instantly let go of Mikey’s arm, though kicked his shell and he fell completely to the ground. “What is the meaning of this?!”
“Mikey broke the brand new Aspara-Gus action figure you got me! And I specifically told ‘im he couldn’t play with it!” Raph accused.
“Michelangelo, is this true?” Splinter looked at him, eyebrows all down and serious like.
“I-I– I didn't mean to–”
“He never listens to me or anyone, Master Splinter! I told him not to! He's such a screw-up!” Raph interrupted him.
“Raphael– a word,” Splinter narrowed his eyes on his elder brother.
“What?! Me?! But it was Mikey wh–!”
“No ‘but's. Now.” He ordered, and Raph stormed angrily back into the dojo.
However, Splinter wasn’t finished, and gave Mikey a look too.
“We will talk later, Michelangelo,” He sighed heavily and followed the steps of his furious child.
Mikey knew he was already crying, but he wanted to cry even more now.
“Mikey… why did you break his Aspara-Gus?” Leo asked.
“I didn't mean to! I-I don't wanna be a screw-up! I-I don't wanna be me!” Mikey shouted.
Leo winced. “Mikey, you aren't a screw-up.”
“Yeah, you just don't know how to listen,” Donnie piped up near his “lab”.
“Donnie,” Leo whisper-yelled and gave the purple turtle a look.
“What?! I'm just trying to–”
“Yeah, well, just let me–”
“You're always the one to–”
“Well, maybe if you were actually ni–”
Mikey couldn't stand all this fighting. He needed to get out here– and not to his room; Splinter or Leo would find him there, and they'd tell him he messed up, and blah blah blah he was a big stupid screw up– which he already knew! He just– he didn't need to hear it. He didn't need any of this–
If he wanted to get away unnoticed, he needed to go now.
Mikey glanced around, seeing Leo and Donnie still arguing, and no sign of Raph and Splinter leaving the dojo any time soon. And so, using all the super quiet super ninja skills he knew, he made his way to the water and lowered himself down until he was completely and silently submerged. Calmly and carefully, Mikey fought the urge to cry even underwater, and swam far, far, far, far away.
So far away, in fact, that when Mikey finally emerged for air, he realized he didn't have a clue where he was.
“This is fine, this is a-okay,” Mikey told himself, finally pulling himself out of the water and onto the cold concrete path. He rolled onto his shell, exhaustion suddenly hitting him all at once.
“This… This is super fine. I wanted air, and now I’m getting it,” He sniffled a little, a dull pain in his chest growing sharper.
Raph thinks he’s useless. And annoying. And a screw-up.
Mikey doesn’t mean to. He loves his brothers and dad! He doesn’t mean to always be so distracted or impulsive or whatever. He swore he tried. He tried so, so, so hard to be good.
But he wasn’t. Again, and again, and again, Mikey wasn’t good. He broke things. He went too far. He didn’t pay attention. He didn’t listen.
His brothers could do all those with ease, even Raph. That had to mean something, right?
Of course it did. It meant Michelangelo was bad. He wasn’t really trying his best to be good because if he were, then he’d be good already. It wasn’t hard for his brothers, but it was hard for Mikey because Mikey was bad.
The tears were quick to return as Mikey picked himself up and started walking further into unknown parts of the sewers. He didn’t care if he was getting lost, he deserved it. He was a bad kid, just like Raph said, and they’d be better off without him.
They’d be better off without him.
.o0o.
Raph was angry.
He sat on his knees in the dojo, filled with rage, hot and heavy in his face and chest. It made his breathing heavy and fists curl in his lap as his head just swirled and swirled and swirled until–
“Raphael. I understand Michelangelo made you very upset by breaking your toy, and I’m very sorry that happened, but calling your brother a ‘screw-up’ will not go back and fix things,” Splinter said as he kneeled right in front of him.
Raph’s fists tightened. “I-I– it was brand new, Master Splinter– We never get new things a-and I just– I was so excited,” he confessed, his voice wavering.
Splinter smiled sadly. “I know, my son, I know. I am sorry I cannot provide such things more often, and I’m sorry Michelangelo broke it. I’m sure he feels absolutely terrible about it.”
A lump formed in Raph’s throat as he kept his eyes low and focused on his father’s knees. “But– he just– he doesn’t stop, a-and– and it just– it makes me so mad…”
Splinter nodded slowly. “Your anger is understandable, my son. Nobody likes to have their things destroyed, but that is not an excuse to make your brother feel worthless.”
Raph sniffled. “I– I didn’t… I didn’t actually mean to– I just– I get so mad,” he whispered, tears beginning to stream down his face right before he felt Master Splinter take him into his arms and hold him close.
“I know you are not a mean boy, Raphael. You have a very good heart that gets blinded by very strong and powerful emotions,” Splinter assured, wiping some of his tears away.
“I just– I-I can’t fight it– it’s like I can’t stop myself, I just– I want to hurt him, I want to hurt him so bad,” Raph wept into his father’s sleeve.
“But you don’t now, do you?” Splinter asked.
Raph shook his head. “I don’ wan’ him to hate me…”
His father laughed a little. “Michelangelo doesn’t hate you– I don't even believe he can. You know, you two have much more in common than you think.”
“But I can hate him. I-I can hate him a lot– does that make me bad?” Raph sniffled again.
“You don’t actually hate him, Raphael. If you did, you would not feel remorse for your actions,” His father assured, rubbing soothing circles on Raph’s shell.
Raph didn’t know what to say, looking back at the ground and resting his head on his father’s shoulder.
“Anger is an emotion that occurs in all living creatures, even myself. You are not wrong for feeling upset that something precious to you was harmed, but there are more productive ways to problem-solve than breaking your brother’s arm,” Splinter chuckled a little.
“... Like what?” Raph ventured to ask.
“Well… there is always breathing and meditation–”
“But it’s so boringgggg,” Raph interrupted.
Splinter laughed. “I know it is hard, but allowing yourself to feel and understand your emotions can help you rid yourself of all this confusion in your young mind,” he stroked the top of Raph’s head for emphasis.
“I-I guess…” Raph looked at his hands.
“Or perhaps you can try going to your room to separate yourself from the situation until you feel more in control of yourself. You could do things like draw or read comics or even scream into a pillow until you feel all better,” Splinter then suggested, which didn’t sound too bad, all things considered.
“I guess I can try that,” Raph shrugged a little, smiling a little when he heard his dad sigh a bit in relief.
“You are a good son, Raphael...”
“Thank you, Master Splinter,” Raph said, still not quite looking at him.
“... Which is why I know that you’ll apologize to Michelangelo as soon as possible, no?” Splinter asked, and Raph tensed a bit.
“I– yeah… I should…” he bit his lip and Splinter hugged him a little tighter before setting him down.
“Good,” He smiled at Raph softly, which Raph managed to return before they both stood and went to the dojo doors, where Splinter opened to find Leo and Donnie arguing about something by themselves.
“Leonardo, Donatello– where is Michelangelo?” Splinter looked left and right as he stepped out in the living space.
Leo stopped arguing and looked around. “I– wasn’t he right here?” he asked Donnie.
“I thought so?” His purple brother shrugged.
The confusion made a knot tie in Raph’s stomach, especially when he saw how it made Splinter’s eyebrows grow close and wrinkly before he shook his head.
“Perhaps he has just gone to rest in his room. I’ll go check on him,” Splinter patted Raph’s head before speed walking to the bedrooms.
Raph could feel his brother’s eyes, the second Splinter was gone, which only made the knot tighten. “You got a problem?”
Donnie backed up. “Me? No. We just– umm…”
Leo wasn’t as much of a scaredy-cat, though, looking at Raph and asking, “Are you okay?”
Raph rolled his eyes. “M’fine, it was just a stupid toy.”
“Of your favorite comic book character,” Donnie pointed out.
“Yeah…” Raph kicked the ground a bit. “But I– I went too far, like always…”
Leo smiled a little. “I’m sure Mikey’ll forgive you.”
Raph stayed quiet.
Splinter came back in not too long, looking around frantically as his eyebrows just got more and more scrunched together with worry.
“Master Splinter?” Leo spoke up. “What’s wrong?”
“I–” Their father stopped himself, taking a deep breath. “Is there anywhere around the lair your brother could possibly be hiding?”
Leo, Donnie and Raph all looked at each other nervously.
Donnie was the first to suggest, “Maybe he’s in the bathroom?”
Splinter shook his head. “I’ve already checked there. Anywhere else?”
Leo bit his cheek. “Maybe under his bed?”
Their father shook his head again.
Donnie suddenly snapped his fingers. “He likes hiding in the kitchen cupboards sometimes!”
Splinter sighed heavily. “I’m afraid I have already checked there as well.”
The knot in Raph’s stomach tightened. “S-so he’s…?”
“I will go out to find him. You three stay here. I will be back soon,” Splinter decided, finally stepping down into the pit, where they hugged him tight.
“Is Mikey gonna be okay, Master Splinter?” Leo asked.
“Of course, my son,” Splinter assured, patting the eldest brother’s head, but Raph could tell he was lying by the tension in his hands.
The hug broke, and the turtles watched as Splinter went to the turnstiles, but stopped right before he would’ve disappeared into the endless tunnel systems.
“I will be back soon, my sons, do not worry. Stay safe,” He smiled at each of them (especially Raph) before he turned and disappeared into the darkness.
Leo and Donnie both hesitated, but sat back on the couch, meanwhile Raph couldn’t help but pace around the pit.
“Why would Mikey just run off like that? He’s never done that before,” Leo looked at Donnie.
“I don’t know, it’s really not like him. He's always been so afraid of the outside, it doesn't make sense,” Donnie shrugged, but Raph just rolled his eyes.
“You two have got to stop pretending this isn’t allmy fault,” He snipped, and both brother’s eyes turned to him.
Leo stood. “Raph–”
“Stop!!!” Raph shouted. “I hurt him! Because of a stupid toy! And called him useless and a screw-up a-and–” Raph internally cursed himself as he felt tears start to form in the corners of his eyes once more.
“Splinter will find him, Raph. It’ll be okay,” Leo smiled and tried placing a hand on his shoulder, but Raph brushed it off.
“I'm gonna go look for ‘im,” He announced, making his way to the water entrance.
“Raaaaaaph, Master Splinter said we need to stay here,” Donnie whined, looking around nervously.
Raph huffed and rolled his eyes. “Think of it this way: Master Splinter is going north, and I'm going south. One of us'll find him eventually.”
“You're leaving out east and west,” Donnie looked unconvinced.
“Whatever. If you two wanna do that, be my guest. I'm going out,” Raph went to jump, but Leo suddenly grabbed his arm.
“Raph, Splinter doesn't need us running away right now,” Leo pleaded, and Raph snagged his arm away.
“Stay here then, for all I care. We'll see who really finds Mikey,” He glared before diving in and swimming away.
.o0o.
Mikey was cold.
Of course, he usually was after swimming around and stuff, but there were also a lot more grates outside the lair than inside.
He wished he could reach them. That he could stick his fingers through and feel the fresh night– or catch a cigarette butt, more likely.
Then again, who needed to reach for cigarette butts when they could just fall on your head?
Mikey had dusted off five butts before he just decided to keep moving past the grates.
Probably the smartest thing he did all day.
Mikey sighed and hugged his arms. He had no idea where he was anymore, and there was still a voice in his head telling how stupid he was for getting himself lost, but he was just so tired of it. He already knew he was an idiot, no need for reminders.
Besides, it was his goal, right? He wanted to run away so he'd stop ruining everything for his brothers and Splinter.
He was a screw-up. This plan probably wouldn't work, and he'd get his dad worried to death about him because he was a stupid crybaby.
… He wished he could go back. He didn't actually want to run away. He missed his brothers– he missed his Papa– he was so, so cold.
The answer for the chilly temperature suddenly appeared when after Mikey rounded a corner, he saw a massive stormwater outlet that–
Woah…
A bitter, cold breeze stung through, but Mikey didn't care, approaching the view of the sparkling lights of the city off of… a river? The ocean? Whatever it was, it was a lot of water and Mikey was mesmerized. Trees were also visible, though most were missing their leaves since it was late November. Mikey didn't mind that, though, as it was still one of the prettiest things he had ever seen.
He didn't deserve such a pretty thing. He'd probably ruin it somehow. Maybe he'd blurt something out, and it would make all the animals scared or angry, and then they'd try to attack him. Or maybe a human would find him, and then he'd get experimented on, like in alien comics.
Mikey's head ached, and so despite his want to leave, he decided to sit there and rest awhile.
He got roughly five seconds of peace before his stomach growled painfully.
“Man, all that swimming really got me hungry, eh?” He joked to no one, hoping it would make it hurt less.
It didn't.
The ten-year-old closed his eyes, trying not to imagine how worried Splinter would be and the lecture he’d get for being all stupid and impulsive despite being told many, many times to just use his stupid head.
Another gust of cold wind blew by, causing Mikey to shudder. He wished he had a blanket or something with him, but then again it would’ve gotten totally soaked, and he would’ve ruined a perfectly nice blanket that Master Splinter worked so hard to get for them.
He would do just about anything in the world to swap brains with Donnie, or Leo, or even Raph.
His brothers were the coolest people in the world, even if they could be a bit mean. Leo was so nice and always picked up any moves Splinter taught the fastest. Donnie was super good at math and stuff and was always working on super sciencey stuff that had Mikey convinced he should win an award or something. And sure, Raph had his anger issues, but he could fight the best out of all four of them, and Mikey wished he could be half as cool as him.
But he wasn’t. He was just stupid, annoying, useless, little screw-up Mikey who couldn’t listen or sit still or focus or remember anything.
… He wasn’t surprised when he noticed himself crying.
He opened his eyes again, surprised to find a beetle crawling up one of the pipes of the outlet.
“Hi, Mr. Beetle. I’m Michelangelo,” he joked, holding out a finger that the bug didn’t climb onto.
“Ah, you don’t wanna be my friend? It’s okay, I wouldn’t be my friend either,” He smiled as he felt tears start to rush.
“S-see– I’m a big jerk. I break my brother’s toys, a-and I don’t sit still or stop makin’ annoying noises, even when they ask all nicely,” the ten-year-old wiped his eyes and sniffled. “Master Splinter says it isn’t my fault– b-but I know he’s just being nice. Raph’s right, I’m just a big screw-up and a jerk, too.”
The beetle twitched its wings a little, making Mikey laugh a little again.
“I’m probably annoying you right now, too. I bet you got a family nearby, and I’m keeping you away from ‘em. M’sorry, Mr. Beetle,” Mikey’s lower lip trembled as his stomach rumbled yet again.
“Say, you– uh… wouldn’t have some food on you, would you?” he joked, but the beetle flew away, causing the boy to break into sobs.
“M’so sorry, Raph,” he whispered to himself, hugging his knees to his chest. “I don’t mean to be bad. I just can’t stop. I know I’m a failure, I just– I wanna be good so bad, but I can’t, I just can’t.”
He let himself break into sobs as more wind rushed by, causing Mikey to instinctively curl tighter as he felt himself start to shut down into sleep– which was weird because it wouldn’t be bedtime for three more hours.
Maybe it was just all the crying like a baby he was doing. He was weak like that.
“M’sorry I don’t listen, Papa– I really wanted to, b-but I can’t– I’m not good like them. I know you tried– m’so, so sorry,” He sobbed further, fully leaning into the circle so he faced the bars.
The sky looked so pretty as snowflakes began to fall, making Mikey feel like he was almost in a snow globe.
Mikey took a long breath, feeling sleep slowly but surely overcome him as all he could focus on was the glittering skylights, his hunger, and how he already missed his family more than anything.
“I’ll go back soon, I just gotta–” Mikey yawned– “take a little nap first…”
Mikey yawned, curling tighter as with this rush of air he fell into a deep, deep, deep sleep.
.o0o.
Raph was getting nervous.
Looking for Mikey was harder than he had expected, but his guilt kept him moving on despite the ever-growing feeling he was starting to get lost…
“You owe Mikey to find him, Raph. Just keep moving,” He told himself just as bits and pieces of a sandwich that had been dropped fell on his head.
“Man, I hate being in the sewers alone,” Raph muttered, wiping the mayo-soaked lettuce bits and a tomato off his head while also avoiding stepping on a broken phone and what looked like a (thankfully) squashed cockroach. Of course, this was entirely his own fault, but this was a good thing; he was taking responsibility for his actions, just like Master Splinter always told him he should. And he was!
Sure, it was also against Splinter’s direct instructions not to leave their lair, but it was also following his instructions to apologize to Mikey as soon as possible! Yes, yes, truly the most flawless logic turtle-kind had ever known.
Raph was just glad Donnie wasn’t here to rub that in.
The boy walked for what felt like forever, when he noticed a sudden temperature drop that had him shuddering and rubbing his arms.
“Jeez– someone got an evil snow cone machine going wild?” He grumbled, referencing one of his comics.
As he got closer, he realized he could hear wind blowing fiercely from what had to be more than just the regular sewer grate. As he turned the corner, he could see that yep, it was a stormwater outlet and–
“MIKEY-!” Raph cried, rushing to his brother’s side, startled to find him asleep.
“Mikey?! Mikey, wake up! What’s wrong with you?” Raph asked, panicking more and more by the second.
“Ughhh… Raph?” Mikey mumbled, barely cracking an eye open.
“Why are you so tired? You hate bedtime!” Raph pointed out, before shaking his head. “Sorry, I’m not– Look, I came here to say–”
“M’tired… talk soon,” Mikey clicked his tongue weakly before his eyes closed again.
“What?! Mikey, you jerk wad! I was apologizing!” Raph growled and shook his brother, but it did nothing to wake him.
Alarms triggered in his head as he tried shaking his brother again, but nothing happened.
“M-Mikey…? Mikey, you’re okay, right?” Raph looked around for any signs of danger or trouble, but couldn’t find anything other than the picturesque night sky and snowfall.
“Woah…” Raph momentarily forgot his panic to admire it, since Master Splinter not only said they were super banned from going outside, but they were double banned from snow because they could accidentally trigger hibern–
Oh no.
“Shoot– Mikey! You know we’re not allowed to–” Raph kicked himself mentally as he realized he was already falling through on his promise. “Look– you’re gonna be okay, okay, Mikey? I just gotta– um…” Raph looked around for anything that would be remotely warm but was just met with moss covered walls, and was it just him or were there suddenly a lot more bugs around here than there were before?
However, he figured just getting his brother away from the drain would get him warmer, and so stood up and tried slinking Mikey on his back as much as possible.
“It’s okay Mikey, I’ll get you back safe and warm in the lair, I promise,” Raph bit his cheek as he struggled readjusting his brother on his shell before starting to walk off.
It certainly wasn’t easy though. While Raph was older and a little bigger, it wasn't enough to make this a breeze. Plus, Mikey wasn’t even trying to support himself since he was all tired and stuff. To make up for it, Raph had to take big, long steps that didn’t always mesh well with the algae, garbage and bug-covered sewers.
However, he promptly halted when he finally reached the remnants of that sandwich that got dropped on his head, which now had a humongous pile of cockroaches on it.
“Gross gross gross gross–” Raph gagged, taking a frantic step back and almost dropping Mikey in the process. He looked around nervously to see if there was some other way he could get to the lair, but that rapidly proved itself to be a waste, as more and more disgusting pests were gathering by the second, and no amount of will power summoned an alternate path.
“M-Master Splinter? Can you hear me?” Raph called, desperate to get out of here already.
He looked at the bugs again and took another instinctive step back. “D-Dad, I really, really hate bugs, I don’t wanna do this,” he felt tears threaten to fall, which just made him more angry at himself. He was trying to save Mikey from accidentally falling asleep for the next three months, he did not need to be acting like a baby!
“Okay, Raph, y-you got this– you can save Mikey, I believe in you,” He told himself, taking a careful and calculated step forward, and a wave of nausea hit that made him want to turn and puke.
But he couldn't! He was a turtle on a mission here! He couldn’t get sick on Mikey now– especially because the drain wasn't too far and that grate was channeling pretty strong winds– If Raph stayed for too long then he’d get all sleepy too and Master Splinter would be double disappointed.
“Alright, guess I’ll just…” Raph mentally prepared himself, stepping one foot at a time at a very slow pace– until the fourth step, where he definitely stepped on a bug, and he completely froze. His instincts were completely useless as he felt two more try to crawl on his leg, causing him to instantly book it as fast as he could.
“Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew–” He kept whispering to himself before he suddenly slipped on the mossy floor and he and Mikey fell into the sewer water.
He completely lost all contact with his brother as he fumbled around in the current, and it took a solid minute before he could get his head clear and broke for the surface.
“MIKEY!” He called, looking around for his brother, but not finding him.
He dove back underwater with urgency and found his little brother beginning to sink. With a grunt of determination, Raph swam with all his might to grab his arms and drag his still cold body to the surface.
“R-Raph?” Mikey croaked between coughs.
“MIKEY!” Raph hugged his brother tight. “Mikey, it’s okay! We’ll be back home soon, I promise,” he assured, and Mikey chuckled weakly.
“You really do care, you big sap,” His little brother smiled weakly.
“Shut up or I'll let you drown,” Raph tried acting tough again, but Mikey's exhaustion made him hard to threaten. “Whatever. Just wrap your arms around my neck, I’ll swim us both home,” Raph grunted, and Mikey thankfully did as he was told.
It took a frustratingly long time to get back to the lair– so long that Mikey had already fallen back asleep by the time Raph recognized his surroundings. It made him nervous, but Raph wasn't going to crack now that he was so close.
“Alright, Mikey, just under here real quick,” Raph glanced at the wall that mostly separated their lair from the sewer system before dunking his brother under and quickly pulling him up on the other side with minimal bonking.
“We made it, Mikey! C’mon– we gotta tell Leo and Donnie so we can–” Raph looked up and found Splinter standing right at the edge of the pool, with Leo and Donnie standing nervously behind him.
“H-hi dad,” Raph looked down at his murky reflection.
“Raphael, I specifically told you–” Splinter was about to reprimand, but his eyes landed on Mikey and worry immediately overrode his anger.
“Bring him over,” Splinter ordered Raph, and of course he obeyed. He watched as Splinter took his youngest brother in his arms and set him down on the couch, placing an ear on his chest.
“His heart is slow. Raphael, what happened? Was there a fight? Was he injured at all?” His father asked. Raph shook his head, getting out of the water and joining Leo and Donnie as spectators.
Splinter frowned, placing a hand on Mikey’s forehead and flinching. “Donatello, warm up a heat pack from your lab.”
“Hai, sensei,” Donnie said, and he was gone in a flash.
Leo looked at Donnie for only a moment before his eyes went right back to Mikey. “Is he gonna be okay, dad?”
Splinter nodded slowly. “He should be okay, he’s just a little cold, is all.”
“Oh! I can get him his blanket!” Leo immediately offered.
“Good idea, Leonardo,” Splinter approved, and before he knew it, Leo was gone too, leaving Raph alone with his dad.
Raph’s heart was pounding in his chest, as he was pretty sure Splinter knew just as well as he did this was all his fault, and he wondered what kind of grounding he’d get this time.
His anxiety certainly wasn’t helped when Splinter suddenly asked, “How did this happen, Raphael?”
Raph gulped. “I found ‘im by a stormwater drain, asleep. I think he was watching the snow or something and just kinda passed out, so...”
“I see,” his father replied, stroking Mikey’s head and taking off his soaked orange mask. “I should have known he would have gone to the water; he’s always been so afraid of subway cars,” he laughed a little sadly.
“It’s not your fault, dad, it’s–” Raph frowned as Leo ran in with the blanket.
“Found it, Master Splinter!” Leo called before handing it to their father all nice and folded.
“Thank you, Leonardo,” Splinter nodded in approval before unfolding it and draping it on the still-napping Mikey.
“Is there anything else I can do?” Leo asked in that eager way he always did.
“No, we do not want to overwhelm him or his body. We just want enough to wake him up at his own pace,” Splinter explained, and Leo nodded, taking a step back to join Raph.
A moment after that, Donnie emerged too with the practically steaming bag of dry rice, which Splinter thanked him too before placing it on his forehead.
“There. That should do it for now,” Splinter nodded to himself, stroking Mikey’s left arm a bit before finally allowing himself to sit on the couch next to him.
Nobody said anything for a while, most everyone’s eyes focused on Mikey except Raph, who kept watching his father. He was waiting to receive his scolding for running away and almost getting Mikey knocked out for months. However, the more he stared, the more it seemed like it wasn't going to happen, and after a couple minutes, Raph couldn’t take it anymore.
“Master Splinter, I’m real sorry I ran away, but I knew it was all my fault– I mean, you know how much I hurt him and his arm– so it was totally my fault! I had to make it right, and I knew that if I didn’t find him, you would, so I figured it really wouldn’t hurt! Plus, you told me I needed to apologize to him as soon as possible, so technically I wasn’t really disobeying you– but I know I really was, and–”
“Raphael,” Splinter cut off his rambles with a soft look. “I am not mad at you. If anything, I am relieved you found him because if it were not for you, I do not think his condition would be fixed so easily.”
“You don’t… know that, though,” Raph kicked the ground.
Donnie raised an eyebrow. “Of course he knows that. Hibernation takes several hours to fully take hold in a turtle, and if Master Splinter had spent all night looking for Mikey he would have certainly been too late and Mikey would spend the next several months practically asleep.”
“Donnie!” Leo punched his arm.
“What? It’s just science!” Donnie defended his rather blunt word choice.
“It’s alright, Leonardo, Donatello is correct,” Their father assured, looking again at Raph. “What you did was very risky, and not something I want to become a habit… but you did very well, Raphael.”
“Not really, Master Splinter. When we ran into a ton of cockroaches, I totally freaked out and dropped Mikey into the water,” Raph confessed and Donnie laughed a little, getting him a quick glare that shut him right up.
“Ahh, but don’t you see? When faced between your fears or bringing your brother to safety, you chose very bravely,” Splinter placed a hand on Raph’s shoulder.
“Thank you, sensei,” Raph bowed and Splinter chuckled and stroked the top of his head a little.
Right then there was a little cough, followed by a groan, followed by a– “Raph? Papa? What’s goin’ on?” from Mikey.
“You are back home, my son,” Splinter quickly turned his attention to his youngest, holding his hand. “How are you feeling?”
“Tired n’ warm,” Mikey yawned.
Splinter smiled a little. “Of course. It is rather late, after all, so the four of you should go to bed.”
“Aww man, but I just slept a bunch,” Mikey whined.
“You need to gather your strength, my son. Do not worry, I will carry you to bed this one time,” Splinter teased Mikey a little since he was always asking to be carried. It seemed to work since Mikey immediately stopped protesting, and he was whisked away.
“You had Master Splinter really worried, you know,” Leo spoke up.
Raph rolled his eyes. “You heard him, I did something right for once.”
“You know what I mean, Raph. If you wanted to find him yourself, you should’ve at least tried to tell him before you left,” Leo crossed his arms.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. If you ever get lost in the sewers, I won’t come looking for you,” Raph pushed Leo away and headed to his room, hearing Leo sigh dramatically and choosing to ignore it as the door slammed closed behind him.
His broken action figure was still on his bed, but instead of angering Raph, it just made him feel… disappointed. Sure, it was partly due to the fact he had been so excited about it just earlier today, but now it was more like he was disappointed how angry he’d gotten. It was just some cheap plastic with a broken voice box, after all. It wasn’t worth making Mikey run away and almost freeze himself into hibernation.
Besides, he’d definitely still play with it. Sure, he would now be missing an arm, but most everyone’s toys were broken in some capacity, so maybe now the other toys wouldn’t get jealous. Not that toys could get jealous, but– whatever. Raph was exhausted.
And so, Raph set his newly broken Aspara-Gus up on the shelf, alongside his much older broken red car, and flopped onto his bed to try and think about sleep.
.o0o.
Mikey was as snug as a bug in a rug after his father tucked him nice and tight into his bed, making him feel like the specialist and also the stupidest kid in the whole world.
“Papa… I’m sorry I ran away. I wasn’t thinkin’, which I know I do a lot,” he looked away as Splinter checked his temperature with a thermometer.
“Don’t worry, Michelangelo, I am just grateful you are alright,” Splinter smiled kinda sadly.
“Still… I didn’t wanna scare you, I just– I always mess up, a-and I really don’t mean to! I try to stop, I really do, Papa, but I just can’t,” Mikey confessed, face red with shame.
The thermometer beeped, but Splinter didn’t even look at it before setting it aside and removing the heat pack from his forehead.
“You are a good son and brother, Michelangelo. Your weaknesses do not erasure your kind smile or your cuddly disposition or your humor. We are all very grateful you are a part of this family, and everyone– including Raphael– missed you terribly in your absence,” Splinter stroked Mikey’s cheek with his thumb.
“I know, but I still break things and don’t listen and stuff, which is still bad of me,” Mikey looked away.
“But that does not make you bad, Michelangelo,” Splinter said with certainty. “Everyone in this sewer has flaws– even myself.”
“Even you?” Mikey gawked.
Splinter chuckled and nodded. “I am not always the most rational mind and can be swift to punishment, but that does not mean I am cruel and unjust. It just means I have something to be aware of and work on.”
“Oooh… cool,” Mikey smiled a little at the thought of him and his papa having something in common.
Splinter laughed more. “It is getting late, my son. Be sure to rest up.”
The rat was going to go, but Mikey grabbed his hand. “Do you have to goooooooooo?” He asked, putting on his best puppy dog eyes.
Splinter hummed happily and kissed his son’s head. “Maybe tomorrow night. I suspect someone else will want to talk to you tonight.”
“Who?” Mikey tilted his head.
“You’ll see,” Splinter patted his shoulder before turning out his light, causing Mikey’s glow-in-the-dark stars to shine. “Sweet dreams, Michelangelo.”
“G’night Papa!” Mikey gave a wide grin before Splinter nodded and closed the door.
Man, Mikey really was tired. But also not. He certainly wasn’t as tired as he’d felt by the stormwater drain, but all that swimming and walking and being all toasty definitely was doing a number on him.
However, before he could decide if he wanted to fall asleep or not, there was a knock at his door.
“Uh… come in?” Mikey said, unsure of who it could be, and startled when he saw it was Raph.
“Hi…” His older brother looked at the ground before he stepped in and closed the door behind him.
There was an awkward moment whether neither brother really knew what to say or how to say it. Instead, they both just looked around Mikey's disaster of a room, avoiding eye contact.
After a bit of this, Raph decided to break the silence with a, “I’m sorry I made you run away, Mikey. And for calling you a screw-up, and useless, and a punk, and a stupid, dumb idiot.”
Mikey laughed a little. “It’s okay, Raph. I already know I am.”
“No! You’re not useless! I said that just because I was mad,” Raph sat on Mikey’s bed urgently. “You’re like– the funniest brother and you give good hugs, which is nice when you want ‘em. That's totally useful!”
Mikey looked away. “You don’t gotta say that to me, Raph. I know I’m the weakest and the least patient and most distracted or whatever, I just gotta deal with it.”
“You know I’d save you if you ran away again, right? And that I– I don’t mean to always hurt you, right?” Raph asked, nervously picking at his nails.
“Aww, you big softie,” Mikey teased a little, and Raph rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah– I’m apologizing here, so do you wanna accept it or not?” He scoffed.
“I’m sorry I broke your toy, Raph. It started making this really loud noise and I panicked,” Mikey explained himself first.
Raph scoffed a bit. “Figures something had to be wrong with it… but still, I shouldn’t have hurt you like that.”
“I shouldn’t’ve broken your toy and run away, so I accept your apology,” Mikey gave his brother a crooked smile. “You accept mine?”
Raph laughed a little. “Yeah, you big baby,” he punched his brother’s arm a little, making Mikey laugh.
“Thanks for saving my life too, by the way. I could kinda hear you and I know it was pretty scary, so… yeah, thanks. You aren’t as angry as you think you are,” Mikey placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder.
Raph seemed a little shook by this, but he eventually just chuckled and shook his head. “Wasn’t a hard decision. Without you, this place is a total dump.”
“Still. Thanks,” Mikey tried to get through his thick skull.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Raph tried to keep playing it off, shaking Mikey’s arm off of him. Raph started to go, but Mikey grabbed his hand on impulse.
“Uh… yeah?” Raph looked at him confused, and Mikey cursed himself a bit.
“Sorry–! I just– um…” Mikey let go and started fidgeting with his blanket. “I was just wondering if you’d wanna– you know… sleepover?”
His elder brother paused, clearly debating it, making Mikey instantly feel bad.
“You don’t have to, though! It was a stupid idea, I mean– we aren’t five anymore, so you can say n–”
“Sure, why not?” Raph shrugged all nonchalantly, and Mikey felt relief flood his body.
“Cool!” Mikey beamed, scooting aside to make room for his older brother, whom he immediately cuddled against the moment he was settled.
“Jeez, Mikey– you ever heard of personal space?” Raph quipped, but Mikey knew he didn’t mean it. If he had, he would’ve pushed him away or moved off the bed.
But nope, Raph stayed right next to Mikey for the entire night, and Mikey wouldn’t have had it any other way.
I think it's hilarious that LEO is the one putting a leash on his batshit brothers
Leo got grianed LMAO.
Ok no one's gonna get that reference so basically Leo's chaotic as shit but he's the least chaotic of his brothers (when they where little little! Raph evenchly chilled out enough to help parent too) as a result he ended up playing damage control to things like Donnie and Raphs territory fights and helping scavenge for food because the four boys are growing rapidly and with two carnivores thats quite a bit of fresh meat....
Leo's done alot of things to keep his family alive and stable, comes with being the first able to access higher thinking.
He doesn't regret all of it, even though parts of it he probably should.
He had to after all.........
Hi, me again, the one with the future donnie and leo ideas with more cause why not
Just wanted to jot down some UC (unnamed child/character) and Casey Jr cousin behavior as they’re raised by different “dads” (Leo being Casey’s and Donnie being UC’s)
(Again, do whatever you want with this info)
The two deciding to put on a performance so their dads will let them have a sleep over despite literally living with each other (they leaned from April cousins used to dance in order to get what they want)
UC bringing back trinkets they get from going on scavenger hunts with Donnie and Casey keeping them all in a box
Casey bringing back any books he’s able to find while going on patrols with Leo for UC (sometimes they’re a little you know ripped and muddy but psh book is book)
Apocalypse training! The cousins are a deadly duo and the twins couldn’t be more proud, almost seeing themselves in their kids (#theygrowupsofast #soonthey’llbekillingsomemonsters #couldntbemoreproudofthekids)
Elaborating more on that, they sometimes can’t train in the same room, especially when they were younger and couldn’t grasp the severity in training so they’d goof when the adults weren’t looking (some angst possibilities here). Either that or they did manage to grasp their situation fairly quickly and adapted their mindsets to learn the techniques they were being taught faster (#childhoodGONE)
Almost never go on patrols separately. You will have to PULL them apart if you want to take one and leave the other (only exception if it’s with one of their family members but if they’re assigned to different groups the two HAVE to go together)
Tried making a blood pact once (“its a blood pact, we go down together”) *cue the twins scooping up their respective kid before they can actually go through with it*
I imagine UC asking Donnie for help to make a music box for Casey Jr after he lost his mom (April helped)
Them actually getting better at dancing and sometimes they’ll be dancing around their rooms despite there not being any music because they’re cool like that
Sneaking into Donnie’s lab in order to see what kinds of shenanigans he’s doing in there
Getting caught sneaking into Donnie’s lab in order to see what kinds of shenanigans he’s doing in there (#worthit)
UC imagining making the weirdest shit only to actually put those thoughts into action and drags Casey Jr along too
UC, holding a blueprint: So, I have an idea for a new weapon. It's a combination of a laser gun and a grenade launcher.
Casey Jr: That sounds dangerous.
Cousin: Exactly! It's perfect for taking out a whole group of Kraang soldiers at once!
Casey Jr: *raises an eyebrow* And what if we accidentally blow ourselves up?
Cousin: *holding up a wrench like it’s a sword* Then we'll go out in a blaze of glory!
Casey Jr: I prefer to not go out at all, thank you very much…
The two doing their best to sneak up on Leo despite him catching them everytime (literally. He’d probably turn around last second and grab them scaring them instead of the other way around like the two planned)
Ganging up on people. Like what do you mean UC is not getting taller? You’re wrong! Yeah tell em Casey Jr! (No one is safe)
UC rambling about more in depth science stuff and Casey Jr just 🧍👍 (I have a feeling that he is good at science because..Donnie, but since UC is mechanically inclined and was raised directly by Donatello they’re just WOOO you know?)
April and Mikey setting up little forts for them and the four just hang around giggling and rolling around like four puppies
Casey Jr doing his best for his cousin after Donnie died, leaving behind all his work to be carried on by his kid, and reminds them that they can share the burden of being the backbone of the resistance
Getting into petty fights with each other over something small like, who gets the last piece scrap metal idk
Thinking about angst scenarios where one of them is too far to reach the other (who is in danger) and they get hurt badly and then having to quickly get them back home and explain what happened
Another angsty scenario eating away at me is one of them is forced to take a different route than expected when patrolling and they lose contact with the base. The panic and chaos that would happen…
Wowwwwww!!! I’m in shock, future anon you sent me hcs 😍🤭
Honestly though UC sounds so cool/cute scenarios where Casey Jr. has someone around his age and Donnie basically has his own kid 😘🤌 just mwah, love it!!! I just had to post this even though I don’t have much to add just tot this was super duper cute ❤️❤️❤️
