So, which of these desperately sobbing children gets to compete for Worst Day? I... think Shouto's our, uh, lucky winner, but I think Deku, Momo, and Tokoyami all put up strong fights
so seeing as we are finally approaching New Chapter Times again after a very long three weeks, this feels like a good time to do a recap of just how much everything currently sucks for our intrepid heroes. it may seem a bit insensitive of me to go through the cast list one by one and arbitrarily assign each character a number score based on how shitty their day was, but... well actually I don’t really have a good defense for that, lol. whatever, let’s just get to ranking these children’s misery (and while we’re at it, some of the adults’ as well).
Midoriya Izuku
current status: unconscious. currently has a pair of those floppy inflatable flailing tube men dealios for arms. had to watch his teacher and his best friends get hurt and nearly die while being helpless to do anything to stop it. has a new quirk which “warns” him of approaching danger by giving him ice pick headaches, as if he didn’t have enough pain in his life as it is. is being targeted by the most dangerous person in the world. and last but not least, is probably on the verge of his super-secret quirk becoming not-so-secret, and having to deal with the fallout of that.
rank: 9/10. hard to imagine how things could get much worse for this little guy atm. NO HORIKOSHI THAT IS NOT A CHALLENGE. YOU LEAVE HIS MENTOR ALONE.
Bakugou Katsuki
current status: unconscious. got impaled by the Big Bad which initially did not look good, but apparently it wasn’t enough to stop him from flying around in drunken loop-de-loops whilst ignoring Iida’s protests, so who knows. proudly announced his new hero name to the world only to be met with scorn and ridicule and hysterical laughter from that fucking Caillou-looking motherfucker whose opinion he never mcfucking asked for, thank you very much. and also his best friend’s self-sacrificing tendencies are giving him anxiety, and his other best friend’s brother just pulled a reverse Darth Vader on Endeavor and upended hero society as we know it. so there’s a good chance he might be called upon to provide emotional support to one or even BOTH of them in the near future. has... has he actually become the stable friend in the trio. fuck.
rank: 7/10 just because he briefly appeared to be in a situationally-inappropriate good mood for those few brief minutes right after Jeanist appeared. you were having too much fun to get a top score, Katsuki.
Todoroki Shouto
current status: not unconscious but probably wishing he was. older brother came back from the dead and revealed that he was a mass murderer and broadcast all of Shouto’s personal traumas to the entire world before earnestly trying to set him and his friends on fire. so is currently dealing with all of the fun fallout from that, on top of watching his teacher and friends all come within inches of death. will probably be dragged into a national controversy against his will now that Endeavor’s past has been revealed. all of it is honestly so shitty that it’s all but impossible for me to put an irreverent spin on this. I honestly can’t think of a single joke to make. goddammit Shouto.
rank: 10/10. a perfect storm of shittiness.
Yaoyorozu Momo
current status: somehow Momo went from having no mentors that we knew of, to having two mentors, and then back to having no mentors, all in the span of a single day. has to be some sort of record.
rank: 8/10. and the worst part of all is that she was a fucking BAMF during this arc, but she can’t even enjoy that now because of all the trauma. I’m still proud of you, Momo.
Uraraka Ochako
current status: mentally and physically exhausted after spending a day out on the front lines dealing with the aftermath of an unnatural disaster. saw things that were canonically enough to make a grown man have a nervous breakdown right then and there. had a really weird and unsettling encounter with Toga who keeps trying to relate to her by telling her things like “hey Ochako, this one time I turned into you and used your quirk to murder someone horribly isn’t that wild.” it’s just been a very long day for her.
rank: 6/10. stressful af but she’s still in one piece and no one was actively murdered in front of her. sometimes you gotta take whatever wins you can get.
Tokoyami Fumikage
current status: his mentor was nearly burned to death in front of him and he was almost burned to death too, and the guy who kept attempting to burn him was all “YOUR MENTOR’S A MURDERER BTW AND SO YOU SHOULD JUST LET ME KILL HIM”, and so he was kind of put on the spot there and he didn’t really know what to do, and somehow he managed to escape with Hawks anyway but Hawks’s wings were all burnt off, and then a fucking video of Hawks stabbing Twice in the back got broadcast to the entire nation and so it’s like, ???? he didn’t sign up for this??? he is just a little birb??? can he live????
rank: 7/10 because he missed out on all of the other traumatizing stuff, but it’s honestly impressive how bad his day managed to be even in spite of that.
All for One
current status: All for One’s day is actually going pretty good.
rank: 0/10. hey but fuck you, AFO.
Shigaraki Tomura
current status: woke up early from his nap which always sucks. only got to enjoy his cool new Transcendent Being powers for a few minutes before the heroes all ganged up on him and incinerated him a bunch of times and fucked up his shiny new cape. has his old mentor currently taking up residence in his head uninvited and trying to boss him around. found out his grandma was part of One for All?? then slept through all of the fun stuff with the Dabi reveal. also a bunch of his friends are either dead or captured. all in all was not really the best day for him.
rank: 8/10 because he was having himself a grand old time for a while there, but once some of this stuff finally sinks in the Suck Factor is going to go way, way up. also, seriously, AFO is currently possessing his body, jesus christ. just leave him alone already.
Hawks
current status: had to make an impossible choice between sitting back and letting an untold number of people die, and turning on a good but misguided man who was only trying to help his friends. has to live with the trauma of literally stabbing his friend in the back for the rest of his life. may have been rendered effectively quirkless. was publicly dragged through the mud alongside Endeavor, and unlike Endeavor he didn’t actually do anything to earn it (though that probably won’t stop him from feeling like he has). oh and speaking of Endeavor, just found out that the hero he looked up to since childhood abused his family and shit, and so now he has to grapple with that on top of everything else. how fucked is it that the minute he finally got to drop his whole double agent balancing act, his life somehow got even more fucked up and complicated.
rank: 9/10. let Hawks rest.
Aizawa Shouta
current status: unconscious. seems to have lost an eye which may possibly affect his quirk. had to saw off his own fucking leg. met the man who experimented on his childhood friend. doesn’t know yet that said man was originally targeting him and not Shirakumo. oh and also his other other childhood friend just died and he doesn’t know it yet. and someone else sacrificed himself in order to save him. and most of his other hero pals are either dead or wounded too, and all of his kids are deeply traumatized. and the guy they went through all of this shit to try and capture in the first place got away, and hero society is now in shambles.
rank: 11/10. Horikoshi. wtf did Aizawa ever do to you.
anyways it’s getting late and I was gonna throw in a few honorable mentions, but I think I’ll just call it a day instead. feel free to weigh in on any of the ones I missed. Dabi for one is having himself a FINE, fine day. but Endeavor not so much. sob.

Pairing: EraserMic x fem!reader
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To say you were surprised is an understatement. You figured your two best friends wouldn’t be spending their New Years Eve with you in your lonely apartment eating pizza and watching crazy countdown shows.
And yet, here you were. Snuggled in between them with your head on the stoic and quiet dark haired man, laughing at whatever joke the loud blond squawked during a commercial break. To you, this was bliss; just a woman with her two male best friends.
Two best friends who were in love with each other and had been for awhile.
Two best friends that you were also in love with.
But you did as you normally do: squash them down into nothingness, trapping them in a locked box with no means of finding the key.
You had met the duo as a transfer student in your third year at U.A. Since Hizashi was better with English, he was your guide and helper for the first couple of weeks helping you get adjusted to life and catching you up on things you might’ve missed. You can never forget the way his eyes lit up at you upon first glance. His presence was overwhelming but nary in a bad way. He was overwhelmingly sweet and patient with you, despite his enormous personality.
In time you met Aizawa, his counterpart, the Yin to his Yang. Where Hizashi was large, he was small. Where Aizawa would ponder his thoughts, the blond would blurt them out. They really were perfect together and somehow you had entered into their perfect world.
It was no wonder you had developed feelings and fast.
They welcomed you when no one would. Looked after you when you were stressed, the butt of a joke, or were missing home. They were always there, always by your side.
So why did it hurt so much when you found them together?
You hadn’t meant to arrive at his house early for your study session, but you were in such a good mood! Were you thinking of confessing? Maybe. But that all went away when you turned the corner too early. There they were, your two best friends kissing in the most passionate way imaginable.
And you just watched.
How had you not known? Of course you had known, they were perfect for each other. All you did was complicate the narrative of their life. You knew about the friend they had lost almost a year ago so you understood their close ties even more now. They found solace in each other. And who were you? Some new foreign transfer student stupidly and hopelessly in love with the two guys who gave you attention and the time of day?
You only watched seconds longer for them to break apart and then peck each other on the lips again. You hear Hizashi whisper, “Do you think we should tell her?”
Aizawa sigh’s, “Only if you want to. I know how much you care about her.”
You didn’t dare listen to the rest of their conversation as you turned heel and ran. Tears beginning to cloud your vision as you run back to your place. Once you got your breath and quirk under control, you had sent them both a text saying that something had come up. For now, it was enough for them and for you.
You began to avoid them for a few weeks, forcing yourself to move on and bury your feelings deeper. You had resided to being the third wheel, the one that’s always left out, the black sheep, the odd one out; as if that hadn’t been your life before so it wasn’t anything new. What had shocked you one day as the lunch bell rang, was a pale hand grabbing onto your uniform.
“Hizashi is worried about you.”
You couldn’t meet his gaze.
“I’m worried about you. You’ve been avoiding us.”
You conjure up a quick lie that doesn’t get past the observant student. “Sorry, I’ve been really try to focus more on school and graduation and trying to find my own identity. Having to make up internship time while getting a provisional license has taken up most of my time.”
Aizawa was unconvinced but played along. “I get it. Talk to us when you can, okay?”
You only nod and kept your head down to avoid his knowing gaze. You had walked away just in time for a tear to fall, and for you to run into the other person from the dynamic duo.
“You’re lying to us, princess,” Hizashi says surprisingly low. “What’s wrong?”
Soon you were joined by his partner and had both of them boring into you. Well it was better tell a half truth, not like they needed to know.
“Sorry you guys,” you mumble. “I’ve been really stressed with all i have to do to graduate with you all. I didn’t wanna burden you with that.”
And my unresolved feelings
“Is that all?! You had us worried sick! Don’t keep us out like that okay? Ya dig?”
You couldn’t help the smile that spread onto your lips at his usual language. “Yeah,” you giggle, “I’m sorry. I promise I’ll tell you two everything.”
“Speaking of truths,” Aizawa interrupts, “there’s something we’ve been meaning to tell you.”
“You’re dating, I know. I wanted to give you two space so...”
Lime green eyes widen and his jaw dropped. “You knew?! Is it that obvious??”
You full on laughed at that. “It kinda is. You two are perfect for each other.”
Ever since the unveiling of particular truths the three of you were always close. You didn’t always feel like a third wheel to their relationship but all of you were open books to each other. Except about your feelings; that is a secret you are willing to take to your grave.
It was only ten minutes until midnight and the drinks had finally slowed from their free flowing. The three of you enjoyed a couple drinking games of watching the different countdowns and by this point, you were drunk. You had noticed the time and lifted your head from Shouta’s shoulder and began to get up.
“Hey you, why are you moving?”
You had paused and were halfway standing when those almond eyes bore into yours. “Oh, well it’s, it’s almost midnight. Ion wanna get in the way of your kiss so I’ll, I will move.”
The couple exchange a glance, a look on their faces one you had never seen before then back to you. You don’t pick up on it and continue to stand.
“(Y/n)...it’s a stupid thing it doesn’t-”
“I’ll get the champagne. Sham. Pain. Sham pahgney. Wait there.”
The two men on the floor remain in their same spots. Hizashi trying not to chortle too much at your pronouncing of champagne and Aizawa trying to figure your mood. He never thought anything was awkward between the three of you, but lately it had begun to be. He’d find himself wondering what you were doing or how it would be nice to cuddle you in his sleeping bag. Even Hizashi doesn’t get sleeping bag rights.
And Hizashi can act aloof and unaware, but he’s been having urges for you in a way that he thought he had gotten rid of. He had told Shouta back in U.A. but the first time he saw you he wanted to believe in love at first sight but he was already with him by then. Why? He already loved someone, why did he still feel incomplete?
As much as they loved you showering them in compliments that they were perfect for each other, the couple had always felt empty. But that feeling would change when you were around. How were they to tell you how they really felt? It should be obvious how much they care and love you, they each cancelled their radio show and patrol for the evening to be with you. Why couldn’t you see?
You had returned with three champagne flutes filled with the golden bubbly drink. You frown a little that they hadn’t moved, so you sat down and handed them their drinks. The only sound that was heard between the trio was the announcement of the final five minutes of the year. You rested your head against the couch and deeply exhaled.
“(Y/n),” Shouta starts, “are you okay?”
“Yeah dove! It looks like you were crying! Talk to us!”
Your head quickly snaps up and you take your empty hand to touch your face. Fuck, you had been crying. When did that happen?
“Oh you two,” you sniffle out while wiping your face. “It’s nothing, nothing! I was remembering my, uh, ex and how we were supposed to kiss at midnight and I guess I got sad. It’s nothing.”
“He wasn’t worth your time, ya dig? You’re beautiful!”
“You can do better. He didn’t treat you right.”
It seems that they both spoke at the same time, making the three of you break into laughter. But once you take in their words, you begin to sober up slightly. Did they really mean it? There’s no way, you need to keep those feelings locked up. Suddenly the flood works were opened.
Hizashi is the first to wrap an arm around you. “(Y/n) princess. Talk to us.”
Lock it up, bury it deeper.
“Like I said, my ex. I was finally going to get my New Years kiss but it’s not gonna happen.”
Throw away the key.
“Dumb right? I’ve never had a New Years kiss and that’s what’s got me so upset.”
They can never know.
And now there’s only 30 seconds left of the year and you’ve already come up with a resolution. Let them go. Let go of your feelings for your two best friends. You had started that resolution earlier in the year with a new boyfriend but he had dumped you at the beginning of December. He claimed that your heart wasn’t in it and that you didn’t love him. You did, you just happened to love two other men too. That’s how it is.
“It’s not dumb, Kitten. You have a right to be sad.”
The timer began to dwindle from 10. You hadn’t realized how your tears were being wiped away from both sides of your face. All three of you had abandoned your drinks in exchange for this moment. Your cheeks were warm but not from the alcohol. You began to smell two distinct scents overcoming you as you began to feel them come closer into your space.
Don’t let them know, and let them go.
“Happy New Year!”
You had barely heard the announcer say those words when you felt two sets of lips on your cheeks. This is all you had ever wanted but you couldn’t stop crying when they didn’t stop touching and caressing you.
“Please stop,” you whimper out as you feel yourself being pulled in one direction.
You meet lime green irises as he holds your chin. “No, we won’t. Fuck, can’t you see how much we love you?” The blond silences your rebuttal by kissing your lips in a way you had only dreamed of. A different set of hands had rested themselves underneath you sweater and was feeling all of your skin, reaching the front of your bra.
When you part for air panting, your eyebrows furrow. “I don’t, I don’t understand. Please don’t hurt me anymore. I, I mean... How long have you known?”
You’re turned around to face Shouta and his dilated pupils. “We’ve always known about our feelings for you. We were waiting for you to see how much we love you.” He pecks your lips lightly.
“You love me?”
Their words and actions are incredible to you right now. But you can’t think clearly as Aizawa cups your face to clear it of more tears as he affectionately places his lips on yours, kissing some of your tears and hurt away.
Aizawa nods into your kiss and pulls back, noticing a string of saliva connecting your plump lips to his. “We have, for a while now.”
“We realized our feelings for you a year after we had all graduated,” Hizashi intercepts. He takes the two of you up onto the couch and places you in his lap comfortably. “Well, I knew I liked you from the moment I met you! And I think for Shou it was when you didn’t speak to us for a few weeks. But then,” he stops to kiss your cheek and then trail down to the corner of your lips, “after you had gotten hurt as a sidekick and were severely injured,” his hand draws circles on your thigh, “we realized we didn’t know what to do if you weren’t around, ya know?” He finishes with a kiss.
You pull away, “But that was five years ago?” You feel the couch dip behind you as Aizawa takes your free hand and interlocks it with his, giving you comforting rubs. But he also takes your hands closer to his crotch. He’s hard? “You kept dating shitty guys.”
“Yeah! To try to get over you!” You cover your face in your hands as you begin to remember the people you had dated and how they didn’t compare to the two men beside you right now. You didn’t want to admit it, but you were starting to get the feeling that they had some more plans in mind for your new year start, considering one was already hard and the other hadn’t stopped touching you. The touches went from friendly to lust filled in mere seconds.
“Listener, baby girl I gotta know. Why did you really stop talking to us back then?” the blond pinches your thigh and moves his hand closer and closer to your heat making your heart beat race.
“I, hah, I caught you two.”
The pair stops and looks to you.
“Kissing. Before one of our study sessions. I was heartbroken. I overheard part of the conversation but I ran away crying.”
Aizawa catches your neck and you end up meeting his lips again, as another pair trail up and down your neck. “Kitten, if you had staid longer you would have heard us talk about maybe opening it up to you. It was his idea since he caught feels first.”
The man at your neck whines and bites down, eliciting a moan from you as he pouts at his lover. “Don’t put this on me! You wanted to include her too but you were too chicken to admit your feelings.”
“Guys...”
Aizawa runs his hand down to your ass and gives it a tight squeeze. Your lips involuntarily open and he prods his tongue inside your mouth. Your hands find purchase in his shirt, finding some sort of stability. From how this was going, you weren’t going to be able to walk tomorrow.
Both men look up to you with love in their eyes and hearts and you smile fondly at them both.
“(Y/n),” Hizashi breathes, “we love you so much.”
“I love you guys too.”
Aizawa grunts and mumbles out,
“Let us show you how much we love you, okay Kitten?”
They Want To Get A Pet - Headcanons
Summary: Your S/O wants a pet and adorable antics ensue~
Characters: Hizashi Yamada, Taishiro Toyomitsu, Aizawa Shouta, Eijiro Kirishima, Tenya Iida, Hanta Sero, Takami Keigo
Contains: Gender neutral reader, lotsa fluff, Reader has arachnophobia in Sero’s part! Crackheadery in Aizawa’s part
Tumblr media
Hizashi Yamada - Cockatoo
📣 You guys totally didn’t plan on getting a cockatoo, or any pet for that matter. Y’all just moved into your new place for christ’s sake!
📣 But after a visit to a lil exotic pet store downtown, your plans changed. And now you’re stuck with a bird with the intelligence of a toddler
📣 According to Yama, the bird just ‘called to him’ and by that, he means the bird literally screamed at him
📣 They’ve got the most bougie cage ever like MTV cribs hit them up.
📣But he doesn’t spend too much time in there as you guys let him roam around the house all day until it’s time for bed or if you leave for a while
📣 If they’re not attached to Yama’s shoulder, you often find them waddling around the house, picking things up off of the floor and throwing them, and squawking at you when they want attention
📣 Sounds like someone else you know huh…
📣 Yama and the bird dance together so much omg. They do the lil head bobs together, he’ll blast some music for them and they go to town he even chirps along to the lyrics omg-
📣 He doesn’t even have to teach them words, they just pick them up on their own… and then never stop saying them… ever
📣 ‘YEAHHHHH’ then from the other side of your home you hear another ‘YEAAHHHHH’
📣 Make it stop
📣 You taught them cuss words for the shits and giggles though
📣 Yama finds it funny too though because he’s got that 8-year-old sense of humor… you all do to be honest
📣 But when the bird chooses to sit on your shoulder you bet your ass Yamada’s gonna fawn over the two of you for the next hour :’)
Tumblr media
Taishiro Toyomitsu - Pyrenean Mastiff
🍢 Really wants a pet
🍢 But also really scared of crushing them so…
🍢 You guys settle for a big ‘ol Pyrenean mastiff!
🍢 And when I say they’re big they are big like… I mean knock you over if you’re not careful big
🍢 They’re literally perfect for each other
🍢 They’re both massive units, insanely adorable, and they for sure share the same appetite
🍢 Speaking of food, he makes sure he’s feeding them the best of the best foods even if that means y’all are making it yourselves
🍢 Not as afraid to roughhouse with them as he thought he’d be
🍢 Lots of fetching, frisbee throwing, ‘wrestling’ even?? They’re so rowdy and for what? My heart, that’s what <3
🍢 The dog definitely sleeps on top of him I don’t make the rules
🍢 Mf just hops on up, curls up and they’re ready to go like--- Is that- is that not y’know,,, HEAVY??
🍢 I mean,,, you sleep on top of him too so I honestly don’t think Tai cares too much
Tumblr media
Aizawa Shota - Cat
💤 You guys already know…
💤 If he were to get any kind of pet it’d be a cat.
💤 They’re chill, independent, and sometimes want attention. Just how he likes it.
💤 Well… that’s how he thought that things should be but-
💤 BOY was he wrong
💤 After living together for quite a while, stalking animal shelter websites for the perfect cat, and finding the right one, you bring them home!
💤 When you met them at the shelter, they were a sweet lil baby with an aloof attitude that you both fell in love with
💤 But when you brought them home… They became an absolute crackhead.
💤 Forget having ANYTHING on the tables or countertops. It’s on the floor now thanks to them. Fuck your water glass, fuck those papers you were helping Aizawa grade, they’re gone! Shredded! Positively destroyed :)
💤 Forget having free hands, they’re literally attached to his side and won’t stop rubbing against his hands while he’s grading papers and such
💤 If you’re not watching his little dude/ette will try and eat food WHILE YOU’RE COOKING oh my fuckingf god
💤 Heaven forbid this dude tries to leave the room. They’ll ‘cry’ until he comes back.
💤 ‘Go to your other parent, they’ll give you attention.’ ‘mEEEOWWW’ ‘Oh my god fine come here.’
💤 Honestly though he really appreciates when they’re down to sleep. Their purrs and their cuddles are very appreciated
💤 And literally just imagine seeing them curled up on his chest while they sleep on the couch ;; im so somft
Tumblr media
Eijiro Kirishima - Bearded Dragon
🏮 This man wants to get THE manliest pet of all,,, a bearded dragon
🏮 He probably saw one on a movie or something and immediately came to you like
🏮 ‘Okay but we neeeeed one just look at their lil beards!! And their tongues!!!’
🏮 You tell him to put it off for a bit, do some research, and see if he still wants one later
🏮 Homeboy is DEDICATED so he puts in the time and ofc he still wants one after the fact
🏮 After a good amount of time, he comes back with a books worth of reasons as to why you guys should get one and you’re honestly shocked
🏮 You just can’t say no to those eyes </33 so you oblige and go out and get one from an owner who’s surrendering it (Because we don’t support chain pet stores in this household)
🏮 You guys can’t pick a name for them so for the longest time they’re just called ‘the lizard’ or ‘little fella’ or whatever else you guys come up with
🏮 Anyways- he’s infatuated with them it’s so funny. He spends all of his freetime watching them get used to their new habitat like,,,, all of it. It’s 1am and he’s just watching it hang out and you’re like ‘Kiri if you love it so much then why don’t you sleep with it’ (not in that way ya nasty)
🏮 HE TAKES IT SERIOUSLY
🏮 Next thing you know he hops out of bed, brings them back and puts them between your pillows.
🏮 Lil homie’s just vibin there.
🏮 You’re done tbh but if Kiri’s happy then you’re happy <33
🏮 Absolutely lets it sit on his shoulders when he’s walking around the house
🏮 He has a leash for them and he takes them out during the warmer months
🏮 Dedicates a good portion of his day to clean out their habitat when need be
🏮 Their relationship is just so cute you can’t help but melt every time you see them together
Tumblr media
Tenya Iida - Tropical Fish
🌟 After a particularly rough finals season, you figure that Iida needs to have some sort of hobby that can help him chill out, but also has some sort of brainwork in there because that’s your boyfriend for ya
🌟 You suggest getting some fish!
🌟 He rly said ‘I’ll think about it’ then proceeded to do a shit ton of research on it because he literally does that every time you express interest in something. King behavior!!
🌟 You guys settle on getting a few tropical fish and a super nice fish tank for ‘em
🌟 He lets you name all of them and of course you have to name one ‘Iida junior’ like how could you not-
🌟 But seriously though he finds it so endearing and sweet ;;
🌟 You can’t tell me he doesn’t buy all of the nicest shit he can for their tank too.
🌟 Fresh aquatic plants, huge rocks for them to swim through, a nice ass heater, the WORKS
🌟 He’s gotta treat yall’s babies right like what did you expect
🌟 Constantly checking their water to see if it’s alright for them
🌟 He’s usually the one to feed them so whenever he comes up to the tank, they all crowd up by the top like doggies when their owner comes home omg
🌟 He finds the noises from the tank to be really good background noise when he’s reading or studying
🌟 Iida’s honestly glad that you suggested to get fish ‘cause taking care of them is such a relaxing hobby and lord knows he needs some of those
Tumblr media
Hanta Sero - Rose Haired Tarantula
🧵 So he wants a Rose Hair Tarantula...
🧵 ‘Absolutely not’ - You, 2021 (sorry if you actually like spiders lol, if a singular person wants hcs where y’all both like spiders please @ me)
🧵 Lots and lots of begging and promises
🧵 ‘You won’t even have to clean the cage, I’ll do it!!’ ‘We can keep them in the spare room’ ‘c’mooon pretty please???’
🧵 He had to bust out the puppy eyes for you to say yes
🧵 And with that, you’re now the proud parents of a demon rose hair tarantula!
🧵 ‘We can keep them in the spare room’ your ass. He lets it climb all over him while he’s walking around the house!!
🧵 Not you actively avoiding him when you see them coming down towards you
🧵 ‘But I wanna kiss!!’ ‘Kiss your tarantula smh’
🧵 After he realizes he’s not gonna get any with his lil buddy (yes, that’s what he calls them) he tries his best to help you familiarize with em
🧵 I’m sorry but he’s trying so hard not to laugh as you freak out when they crawl up your arm
🧵 He takes things more seriously after that though. He’ll give you lil words of encouragement, back pats and such
🧵 He’s so happy that you become… tolerable after a while of you guys just hangin’ out that you can’t help but feel proud too.
🧵 You still can’t stand spiders though.
Tumblr media
Keigo Tamaki - Bunnies
🐤 Just like Aizawa, he wants something that’s quiet and can be independent since his schedule is a bit busy but he still wants to have a lil buddy to love on
🐤 You’re actually the one to bring up the idea to get a bunny, it’s part of a long list of ideas you had come up with, but for whatever reason, the bunny idea just stuck with him
🐤 You two hop (im a comedic genius hi <33) on over to the nearest rescue you can find, and browse through the enclosures looking for the perfect bunny for you guys
Part 2 - Chapter 5 - Consequences
Blank Canvas Part 2
AO3 - here
Fanfiction.net - here
Another long awaited chapter has come, dear readers! :D Bakugou being told his punishments. Hope you like what I came up with!
Just a reminder that I made a change to chapter 15 of part 1 for the start of 1-A's battle training. Added Katsuki's reaction to hearing Izuku's voice even though he was disguised. Also that the second sludge villain attack did not happen in this fic. In case you forgot. ;)
Warning for swearing because Katsuki pov.
Let's go!
Linktree to all the things!
End notes for the chapter are under the line.
There you have it! Explodey boy has been told his punishments. With a few more revealed from what was discussed during Izuku and Hitoshi's meeting. ;) I hope I got Mitsuki and Masaru alright. There's more interaction between Mitsuki and Katsuki next chapter but for this one, the female hothead is more in protective mother mode with Inko but with underlying anger towards her son's foolish actions.
I would like to ask for advice on other consequences for Katsuki. Like what do you think would be plausible to happen with his parents at home during his suspension. Grounding, privileges taken away, scolding, etc. Or what you think Inko would do though to me I feel she will most likely stop treating Katsuki as a nephew and refer to him as Bakugou like Izuku does. Because he's lost that privilege with both Midoriyas. Also how do you think his friends will react when they find out? Anyway, let me know!
I want to thank those who gave advice on Katsuki's punishments again. You know who you are. ;) Seriously your comments helped me a lot when it came to figuring out what to do with him.
Before ultimately deciding that Nezu being the principal and all that he would be the one to dish out the spiel about Katsuki's punishments, my brain came up with a blurb of Aizawa being the one talking about it. But as seen in the chapter that did not happen. However! I thought you would enjoy reading how I imagined the hobo man dealing out the reasons why Katsuki was getting off with not being expelled and such. Enjoy!
“The only reason this punishment is extremely lenient is because Midoriya insisted it to be. He was the one to not want you disqualified from the festival. Even though that is the usual procedure. He asked for you not to be expelled. Despite that being extremely warranted in this situation. He even brought up the fact that while keeping you in the Hero Course, reluctantly, we couldn’t even keep you away from training entirely or you would fall behind more than you are right now. So you better be damn grateful for this rare opportunity and put aside your oversensitive pride and fragile ego to accept these conditions. Because if you don’t, if you refuse to take this chance to change, Midoriya has agreed to let our decision to expel you on the spot stand.”
Snap. XD
Fun Facts About Japan:
Gonna talk more about Golden Week since it's coming up next week for Japan. The term 'Golden Week' was apparently based on a Japanese radio lingo 'golden time' or 'gouruden taimu' ( ゴールデンタイム ) which was the peak time of listener ratings. It was a term used first by movie companies to promote the 'golden' opportunity so much free time provided to watch some movies. :P The term became so commonly used that it eventually was culturally and lingually associated to the string of four holidays at the beginning of May.
To so totally date this fic, due to covid craziness in 2020, Golden Week was handled differently than other years. Typically traveling is expected and anticipated with the coming of Golden Week. Lots of advertising of 'go here' or 'eat there' or whatever. But in 2020, the Tokyo governor actually discouraged traveling to help prevent the spread of the disease and advised Tokyo residents to participate in 'Stay Home Week' or Sutei houmu shuukan ( ステイホーム週間 , ステイホームしゅうかん ). The rebranded 'Stay Home Week to Save Lives' was from April 25th to May 6th.
That's it for this chapter! Up next is part 3 and the end of Katsuki's meeting with Nezu. We're going to get Inko's thoughts on the Katsuki's response to the punishments as well as her raising some concerns she has for one of her house guests. We're also going to see into Shouta's thoughts on the matter as well along with a preview to the EraserMic apartment and the cats! I mentioned the cats before, right? Or was that just on the discord...anyway! There's gonna be three! :D Until then, be well and let me know of typos or weirdness!
em-exceeds-change-zearu replied to your post: Man, honestly, say what you will about the Kalos...
okay the thought of manon travelling with ash and co never occurred to me but that sounds so precious? ash is so good when he has someone to mentor and manon was over the moon about the story about him on top of the prism tower with gabby so it’d work? maybe giving serena an earlier start to figuring out what she wanted to do by helping out and bonding with manon too? also let bonnie actually bond with ash and manon for a energetic student mentor triad of terror? god…
Ooh, so I think I worded things a bit badly, but---I didn’t mean have her as a part of Ash’s squad, per se, but more that she would be a regularly reoccurring character that he meets, interacts with, and mentors whenever they meet up!
Specifically, in my re-imagining, Manon travels with Shouta (and together they are #GreenTeam), who as we know is already Ash’s primary Kalosean rival. Both Manon and Shouta are the same age (ten), and they’re both beginning trainers; particularly in a situation where we let Ash, Serena, and Clemont all be the thirteen / fourteen-year-olds they behave like, it’d make a lot of sense for Ash to be a pseudo-rival for Shouta and Manon, both of whom are younger than him and just starting out. (Serena is also just starting out, but there’s nothing saying someone can’t become a trainer a bit later in life. I imagine that Alan didn’t leave on his journey until he was twelve, for instance.) But even we don’t age Ash, Serena, and Clemont up, having Shouta and Manon be the two newbie trainers that Ash regularly meets, interacts, and battles with / mentors could still be a very fun dynamic, particularly when you imagine how this partnership between Shouta and Manon might have been fostered in the first place.
I mean, if you think about it, it could happen very easily. Shouta does still have a bit of experience on Manon when they first meet (or rather, when they would first meet) considering that he picked up his starter pokémon prior to traveling to Kalos, but even then, his treecko is still . . . well, a treecko when we meet him, so he clearly isn’t that experienced. Nonetheless, he’s smart, studious, and sharp; he seems to know what he’s doing, and I think that would certainly appeal to Manon, who is a newbie in every sense of the word and would no doubt be very impressed by whatever knowledge and experience Shouta does have. When you consider that Shouta has already met Steven Stone once and hopes to meet him again, that gives Manon even more incentive to want to travel with him, because there’s a good chance he’ll meet Steven (and maybe even learn about mega evolution!), and if she’s with him, then she’ll get to meet him as well. In a sharp deviation from TSME 1, Shouta would actually have no problems with traveling with her. Whereas Alan did not want to be her travel companion and eventually just gave in after he saw that his “no” and “don’t follow me” rebuffs weren’t going to be respected no matter what he did, nothing we’ve seen from Shouta suggests that he’d have a problem having a traveling companion. If anything, he’d probably welcome the company, particularly since he and Manon are roughly on the same level and both have a penchant for grass-types (Hari-san obviously, but I also like to think Manon would get a bulbasaur that she could mega evolve). I think he’d be open to traveling with her, which means that from the start Manon would have a traveling companion who not only wouldn’t try to ditch her at every opportunity, but would also be excited to traveling with her, making for a much more fun adventure.
On top of all this, since they’re both starting out, Shouta wouldn’t be Manon’s crutch, either. Again, he has a bit of experience on her, but Manon would still need to battle and learn on her own, rather than having to duck behind the nearest rock to be protected from whatever battle is about to unfold right in front of her. Since Shouta isn’t being used as a Flare agent, he wouldn’t get into as many life-threatening situations anyway, which means that the battles Manon would face would be much, much more on her skill level, thus allowing her to build confidence in herself as she grows as a trainer. So not only would Manon not be railroading someone else’s boundaries, but she also wouldn’t be leaning wholesale on someone else and depending on them to protect her. Instead, she’d learn how to protect herself and would have the opportunity to build up her own team. Furthermore, whenever Shouta and Steven meet again (which is sometime after the Snowbelle arc, but prior to the League), Steven gives Shouta a Key Stone and Sceptilite. There’s nothing at all saying that Manon couldn’t get her Key Stone and Venusaurite at the same time. Thus, she obtains mega evolution in canon, at the same time that Shouta does.
Since she’s traveling with Shouta, this gives her plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with Ash & the squad, because after all, Shouta himself does. Both Shouta and Manon could go after the Gym badges (and thus they could both enter the League), and both of them could battle against Ash at different points. This is what I mean when I say that Ash could mentor Manon; I think that he would see a lot of himself in her, back when he was first starting out (very energetic, determined to be the very best, but also rather clueless with little idea of what she’s doing, even though her heart is in the right place generally), and I think that would endear her to him and would make him want to give her advice / guidance whenever they meet up. Manon, as you said, already knows of him thanks to the story of what happened on Prism Tower, and so I think she’d be super eager to get whatever advice she could from him, to learn from his accomplishments, and also perhaps one day beat him in battle herself. She’s still not traveling with him (gotta rep that #GreenTeam), but she’s very excitedly running up to his group whenever they happen to cross paths. She could still bond with Serena and Bonnie much earlier on, as well, especially if Ash, Serena, and Clemont were all aged up by three years, meaning that Manon would be in-between Serena and Bonnie, age-wise. But even if she’s not, again, she could still bond with them as we saw a little bit of during the League arc, and perhaps could even battle Serena sometimes as well, to see if she can beat a pokémon that has a type advantage of hers.
And in this way, she still could meet Alan! Alan first meets Ash after he sees him battling Shouta. While Shouta leaves before Alan interacts with the group (and thus Manon goes with him), there’s nothing saying that they couldn’t stick around for a bit longer in this version of events. If nothing else, if Manon is collecting badges and going on a proper journey here, who’s to say that she doesn’t enter the League? Picture a League scenario where, instead of battling Trevor in the first round, Alan battles Manon instead. She sends her Mega Venusaur against Mega Lizardon X. She loses, but it’s a good battle, and so they shake hands at the end of it and Alan tells her that she did a great job. She’s still disappointed, but Ash consoles her afterward and tells her about his Kanto League loss and how quickly he was booted, and that makes her feel better as she resolves to try harder next time (and maybe beat Alan in a rematch someday, too). That said, of course she doesn’t leave Lumiose after that, and so this time, she’s able to join the other rival kids (Shouta naturally, but also Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna) as they help with the Lumiose City evacuation during the Flare crisis, using Hari-san and her Mega Venusaur (Fushi-kun, in my headcanon) to actually be active and help. (Though staying true to her character, she’s doing this because she wants to protect Shouta and keep him safe as a first priority, and he’s not leaving without helping, but still.)
The only sticking point we’d have to work around is how Squishy gets freed if Hari-san is not at Fleur-De-Lis Laboratories to free him, but honestly, that can be worked around. For instance, we know that Steven calls up Professor Sycamore to tell him about what Lysandre has been having Alan do (he straight up tattled on Lysandre, it’s great), and we know that Sycamore went to Fleur-De-Lis Laboratories as a direct result of that. In that case, perhaps something happens which results in Gabrielle getting separated from Sycamore somehow (maybe some equipment malfunctions and there’s an explosion, maybe she wanders off while Sycamore is distracted talking to Lysandre, either-or), and because both garchomp and Zygarde are ground/dragon-types, she’s drawn to him. Gabrielle frees Squishy, but is zapped by his energy (whatever it is) and falls comatose, and therefore we still get a similar set-up where Squishy is freed and Alan is determined to rescue a comatose pokémon. Only this time, rather than being motivated by guilt because he has managed to view the situation in such a way that makes it his fault (even though it wasn’t his fault, even in canon, but nonetheless that’s how he saw it), he’s instead motivated by shock and grief because he has loved that garchomp since she was a little bitty gible he brought home to the lab, and Professor Sycamore is his unofficially adoptive father, and he signed up into Lysandre’s service to protect Sycamore in the first place, and damn it he is not going to let them down, you’ll see. So even then, even though the story has to be modified because Hari-san and Manon wouldn’t be there in TSME 4, ultimately it’s a very easy thing to work around, which ends up working out better for all involved characters. (Especially Manon, since in this version of events she gets to have many more appearances in the main story, actually gets to train a team of pokémon, gets to participate in the League, and is never sidelined.)
So yeah, if I were rewriting the story to make improvements on it, that’s one of the primary improvements I’d make. I think that it would be better for every single involved character, and would make the story much more enjoyable overall.
Twisting Fate
Ao3 | FF.net | 1 | 6 |
Summary: After his last act as a hero, All Might is forced into retirement. Unable to fight. Unable to protect anyone. How does one continue to carry certain burdens when they no longer have the strength to do so anymore. Can the man who's always had criticizing opinions about the No. 1 hero show him that it's okay to let someone help him? Starts post chapter 95 of manga.
Chapter 7: A Chance
Over the course of the next four days, Aizawa is slightly impressed by the progress being made by his class. Some students had already made changes to their costumes and others had at least one special move created. Their minds were free, bringing life to the countless ideas they had imagined as children. He was envious. The last four days, he'd been stuck in his mind; thinking about Toshinori and what happened the other night. Since then, just as he had after the first night they'd eaten together, the blond had been avoiding Aizawa. Four days and he hardly saw or heard from the man.
Aizawa lets his eyes fall shut and stuffs his hands into his pockets. Apparently the previous day, no one had seen All Might as Recovery Girl had come asking about him. He was uncomfortable and annoyed with her questions of wanting to know the man's every move like he would know. That was far beyond what had been asked of him and he didn't appreciate that she assumed he was keeping tabs on the blond. Quickly becoming irate with the nurse, Aizawa merely informed her that he'd not seen him that morning before leaving and that he'd not been by the gym since that first day either.
After checking in on Toshinori the other night, Aizawa felt like he'd overstepped the man's boundaries. He'd been trying to tell himself that he was only looking out for the for the blond's well being but now, he wasn't entirely sure. These nightmares of Toshinori's... they reminded Aizawa too much of his own that he still struggled with some nights. After his own recovery, he'd learned to dissociate himself from those thoughts through meditation. It was something that Hizashi had talked him through on the nights where he just couldn't escape the horrors.
He needed to talk to him. Aizawa needed to apologize and let him know that his words the other night had been sincere because Toshinori didn't deserve to suffer alone.
Aizawa reaches into a back pouch on his belt and pulls out his eye drops. As he carefully squeezes a drop into each eye, he hears someone approach from behind.
"How are things coming, Aizawa?" Toshi asks.
Just like the first day he visited, Aizawa was surprised to see the man show up after hardly seeing him for the last few days as though it were nothing. It annoyed him.
"The students are coming along," he answers, blinking several times until his vision cleared.
A loud explosion catches their attention and the two look above them to see Bakugou making a display of another new move. "Some of them already have multiple moves," Toshi comments, observing the student.
"Seems that hot-head is projecting his anger a bit more properly now. I just hope he can control it during the exam," Aizawa notes, casting a side glance at the taller man.
Toshi furrows his brow and looks down at the teacher, noticing how often his eyes are drooping shut. He looked more like his usual self, haggard and at his wits end. "What do you mean?"
"Failure isn't an option," he states clearly. "But you know how these exams go, Toshinori."
Toshi thinks about Aizawa's words and can agree that the explosion creating student needed to watch his anger towards others, but he also wanted to give the boy the benefit of the doubt. He understood Aizawa's concern as he knew exactly how these exams went, but Bakugou was a smart individual and Toshi wanted to believe that he'd wisen up, if only to pass the exam.
Changing his train of thought, he takes a step forward and searches for Midoriya. Given the state of the boy's arms, Toshi is worried about him being able to come up with a way to pass the exam. He's not lost confidence in the boy, but his dream of becoming a hero could shatter in an instant if he wasn't careful. As he looks for the green-haired boy, the rock from the cliffs above where Bakugou is crumbles, and plummets directly toward Toshi below.
"Idi-" Aizawa starts and unfurls his scarf, readying to pull the man out of harm's way. Yanking him in a rush would undoubtedly hurt the man's still injured arm, but it was far better than the alternative. However, before he even blinks the falling rubble is smashed to pieces. The surprise doesn't leave yet, as he watches Midoriya land in front of the blond, sporting a new style of his own. He'd already started submitting and granting permissions for those that had requested costume changes.
He'd been curious about the direction Midoriya was planning to go and though it was unexpected, it was smart. Learn to use other parts of your being to achieve the same goal. Even more unexpected though was the beaming grin on Toshinori's face. Whatever the man appeared to be so confident about, it obviously concerned Midoriya.
Aizawa observes the scene unfold before him; listening as All Might tells Midoriya his new style will probably be more than just a stopgap. Aizawa agrees, knowing full well the condition of the student's arms. His potential had grown considerably since the first day of class and it was continuing to do so. No matter what his personal feelings regarding the problem child, he had to admit that it's be a shame to see him fail now.
Remembering what just happened and that Toshinori was still on the field, Aizawa walks over to the gathering group noticing that a couple students had wandered over. "All Might, you should stand back," he says, reaching out to him. "It's dangerous."
"That's rude," he howls at the man, causing Aizawa to stop. Toshi calls out an apology to Bakugou who merely shouts for him to be careful. That cheerful and proud smile that had suddenly falls as he notices the worried looks surrounding him. It's dangerous. You should stay back. He understands why they're concerned, but has he really become someone that needs to be protected?
The sullen look doesn't go unnoticed by Aizawa and he realizes what's been bothering the blond. He reaches out to him, gently taking his arm and pulls him toward the door. "Toshinori," he whispers softly causing Toshi's eyes to widen in surprise, "You and I-" he's interrupted by the arrival of class B, whose teacher he chides for arriving early.
As Aizawa reprimands the teacher and tells his class to get comfortable since they still had ten minutes before they needed to clear out, Toshi continues to head for the door, out of the way. The rock falling had been an accident, but it was his own fault for not paying attention. That's why he had apologized to Bakugou. Even still, it hurt his pride to know that he couldn't even protect himself from accidents like that.
He looks to Aizawa and wonders what he was going to say before class B showed up. There had been no anger on his face and his voice had sound nothing but concerned. Still, he didn't know what the man wanted to say to him. It probably didn't matter now since he and his class were about to clear from the gym, allowing the other class of heroes-in-training to practice. Aizawa is the last from class A to leave the gym, only nodding at Toshi when he walks past. Part of him had hoped that the man would stop and finish his thought from before. Stupid.
The remaining teachers keep a close eye on the retiree, ensuring that he stays away from the field. He observes the other half of the hero course, not having spent much time with them and decides that they're an impressive lot, but even he is able to notice the gap between the classes. Though perhaps it could also just be a difference between the teaching styles of the homeroom teachers.
He doesn't stay for long, becoming annoyed by the watchful eyes of his co-workers. He's growing to hate this feeling of helplessness and himself a bit since it was possible that it all could have been avoided had he done things differently. But the past was just that and there was nothing he could do to change things now. It's only just after noon, and he really doesn't feel like going back to the flat quite yet so he leaves campus for a bit and ends up at a small nursery.
Thinking about how he missed having a plant to care for, Toshi goes inside to see if anything catches his eye. Most of the selection are outdoor autumn blooms, but in the back corner of the shop he spots a small collection of houseplants. There is only one that grabs his attention and it almost brings tears to his eyes just thinking about who it reminds him of. Almost.
He takes a closer look and gently fiddles with the stems and leaves, noting that they aren't crumbling at his touch. There is still some life yet in the plant, so Toshi decides to take it home. Everything deserved a second to live and sometimes all one needed was a little love and attention to help start the blooming process. He pauses for a moment and wonders: did that include him? The blond shakes his head. He was still here so of course that included him.
But who would ever love him the way he now loved this wilting plant?
When Toshi returns to the flat, he spots Aizawa sitting on the couch with his knees pulled close to his chest and his attention directed across from him, he also had his laptop open as he mindlessly scrolled through whatever was on the screen. The dark-haired man turns to look at him and raises an eyebrow at the dying plant in his hands and the bags hanging off of his arm.
"Shouta," Hizashi sings, snapping his fingers to get his friend's attention. Aizawa turns back to the red-eyed blond sitting in Toshi and he's living room. "You gonna come tonight?"
Toshi rounds the corner, drawing the other blond's attention. "Hi Yamada," he greets with a smile.
Aizawa takes a sip of coffee, his eyes following Toshinori as he goes to the kitchen table with his items.
"A plant?" Yamada asks, shooting a look to Aizawa who just shrugs.
"It's a peace lily," Toshi says, gently setting on the table. "I'm sorry for interrupting," he says reaching up to pull at his bangs.
"Don't be," Mic says cheerfully and hops up from the couch to stand beside the retiree. "I was just inviting Shouta out for drinks later tonight, You should join us."
"Hizashi, don't," Aizawa warns, walking into the kitchen for more coffee.
"What?! It'd be rude not to invite him," Hizashi exclaims, his voice wavering.
"I appreciate the offer, Yamada," Toshi says with a chuckle, "But perhaps another night?"
Mic just smiles and throws an arm around the man's shoulders. "See Shouta? I was only asking."
"Leave, Hizashi," Aizawa snaps.
"Okay," the blond says with his hands raised in surrender, "I'm gone."
Aizawa rolls his eyes and shakes his head. After he takes a sip of coffee he looks over to the remaining blond, who is looking back at the dying plant, smiling fondly at it.
"You know that's dying, right?" he notes.
"It is," Toshi agrees sadly. "It still has a chance though."
It would require a lot of care, but he wanted to see it healthy. Once you got them to blossom, they would be in a constant state of bloom and when they were healthy, the lily could hold up to five flowers at once. Toshi liked them for their beauty and their symbolism as they held various meanings such as hope, peace, and purity. A bit ironic but he didn't care.
"Does it?" Aizawa asks, curious to know the chances of survival for the wilting plant.
Toshi looks over to Aizawa and an idea comes to him. He didn't think about how it would be impossible for him to re-pot the lily on his own with only one hand. "Would you like to help and find out?" Aizawa looks at the blond, who is pulling at his bangs again. "I didn't consider that I wouldn't be able to do this on my own."
Aizawa takes another sip of his coffee then sets the mug. "What do you need?" he asks, holding a finger beneath the wilting flower. It's the only flower on the plant, but it's clearly dead and barely hanging onto its stem. He has half a mind to just rip it off, but the man beside him holds a small pair of shears out to him.
"I'll show you what needs to be clipped," he directs gently.
Aizawa takes the shears and follows Toshinori's lead, being careful not to cause any more damage to the plant. He listens to how the blond's voice lilts a bit as he tells Aizawa more about the plant in question. They end up cutting far less than he would have thought and when he asks why, the other man informs him that because the plant isn't bulbous and is a house plant, it has to grow some before the rest of the dead fiber can be cut.
The next step is transferring the lily, which begins with Aizawa lining the base with the loose gravel Toshinori had purchased then filling the new pot halfway with fresh soil and creating a well in the center. He had to admit that he'd have never guessed that All Might had such a passion for gardening. It just seemed... so gentle and unlike everything he'd ever known about the man. But behind the strength that Toshinori once wielded, Aizawa was learning that there was so much more to him.
With the well created, Toshi instructs Aizawa to grip the plant at its base and pull it from the pot, dumping the dried dirt on top of the fresh soil. As he's holding it over its new home, Toshi fiddles with the roots, loosening them and letting the dirt fall away so that they can spread farther and deeper. When he's done, Toshi watches Aizawa nestle the lily into the well and thoroughly bury the roots. All that's left to do is generously water it and set it someplace out of direct sunlight.
Aizawa lets Toshi take care of that while scrubs the dirt from his hands and under his nails so that he can start dinner. It was a nice distraction compared to the videos he'd watching for days now. At the beginning of breaks, Aizawa had plenty to keep him busy, but towards the end he always grew bored and a little stir crazy; a side of him that only Mic had seen. As he dries his hands, he steps aside to let Toshi run the water over it.
"Thank you for helping me, Aizawa," he says and turns to smile at him.
Aizawa's breath stills at the sight. He's never seen him smile so gently before. He steps closers and reaches up to remove the sling from the blond's neck, then tapes a plastic bag over his cast. "You go wash up. I'll actually cook us a proper meal," Aizawa instructs.
There's a part of Toshi that wants to argue, but on his way home he'd done a little thinking. Without his quirk, he was someone that needed protecting because physically he just couldn't do it. If Midoriya hadn't jumped out earlier, then Aizawa would have pulled him out of the way. He thought that he understood what all this meant, but it took him almost getting hurt with no way to save himself to see what was so obvious to everyone else.
He doesn't say anything though. The blond just nods and goes to his bedroom. While Toshi goes off to wash up, Aizawa cleans the table down, then starts cooking up some curry. He had intended to speak to the blond about the other night and what happened at the gym today when he got home, but with Mic over and then getting distracted with the plant the opportunity hadn't shown itself. He still didn't quite see the value bringing home something that was dead but was curious (maybe even hopeful) to see if it would get stronger.
Aizawa lets the mixture simmer and slices up some cabbage to have in the place of rice. The whole scene is oddly domestic and he can't help but chuckle at the thought. He looks down at the lily and reaches into the sink for it. Aizawa wipes the pot dry then carries it out to set in the middle of the coffee table. He wondered, how different the school year might have been if Toshinori had never come to UA. Not that he was one to pin the fault on another, but everything that had happened in not even four months was due to his presence.
He looks over to the man's bedroom door and brushes his fingers on the scar beneath his eye. No, this scar wasn't his fault. Those villains might have been there for All Might but it wasn't the hero that had been in danger that day. It was his class that he'd protected and been scarred for. The fight, the pain of recovery, the nightmares. It had all been to keep his students safe. That wasn't Toshinori's fault, he thought as he looks to the man exiting his room, with his meds in hand.
Aizawa serves them each a plate and sets them onto the table. "Cabbage?" Toshi asks, raising an eyebrow.
"It's lighter than rice and needed to be eaten," he answers with a shrug.
Toshi takes an experimental bite as Aizawa reaches for his meds and opens them for him. The crunch of the cabbage is... different, but it's still good. It cools the curry down so he doesn't have to wait to eat. "This is good, Aizawa."
Their eyes meet as the dark-haired man sits down and small smile graces his face, causing Toshi to blush. "I'm sure you're just saying that since it's something different than what you've been eating for the last week."
"I mean it," he retorts and it's Aizawa's turn to blush.
"I moved the plant to the coffee table. I hope that's okay," he says without looking up.
Toshi turns to look at the lily sitting on the coffee table and smiles. "It's a perfect place," he whispers more to himself than Aizawa. It's out of direct sunlight and in the center of the room so when it's healthy it'll bloom beautifully.
When the two are done with dinner Aizawa cleans up and Toshi makes some tea, offering some to the to shorter man instead of his usual coffee. Thinking that it might do him some good to calm down a little, Aizawa accepts a cup.
"Toshinori," he sighs, after taking a sip. "We need to talk about what happened."
Toshi remembered that Aizawa had tried to speak with him earlier, before leaving the gym. He'd been quite excited about bringing home the lily and thinking about what actually happened that he's forgotten about Aizawa approaching him and leading him away. The grip on his arm and been firm, but gentle and his eyes had shown nothing but concern.
"I'm sorry about what happened today, Aizawa," he mutters and walks out to the living room.
Aizawa watches him as he sits down one side of the couch and stares at the lily. He was planning to talk about what occurred today, but he wanted to apologize for the other night first. He was at a loss for words, his mind jumbled by the sudden apology. His tea in hand, he joins Toshinori on the opposite side end of the couch.
"I wanted to apologize too," he admits, brushing his scar.
"Oh," he says, not sure what he'd done to warrant such a thing from him though.
"The other night, when you woke up coughing, I've been thinking that I may have overstepped some boundaries," Aizawa explains.
It clicked for Toshi then. "I was surprised when you knocked, but you don't have to apologize for checking on me," he assures him. It was thoughtful that of Aizawa to consider his personal space, but Toshi knew that he had meant well that night.
Even with what he'd said. It was so hard to keep everything he'd been carrying for so long bottled up inside and while he still couldn't tell anyone his secrets, it didn't mean that he couldn't admit that he was struggling. "Did I really sound that bad?" he asks.
"Worse than most nights," Aizawa confesses easily. Most nights? Toshi was aware that the he had nightmares just about every night, but had Aizawa been listening in? "If you hadn't woken up yourself, I was planning on doing it myself."
"You were?" That feeling of helplessness was starting to creep up on him again. He was starting to sink. Just when he was starting to accept that he couldn't go through this crisis alone, he felt ashamed with himself.
"Toshinori?" The blond looks into Aizawa's eyes, focusing on them to ground himself in reality. "What's wrong?" Those tired eyes are full of worry.
Toshi tries to answer, but nothing comes out. Aizawa knows that he can't make the blond talk but he'd hoped that just maybe he'd be able to get through to the man. All he got was silence though. The dark-haired man sighs and gets up to leave. He only had so much patience and you couldn't help someone if they didn't want accept it.
He only takes a step when he feels a tug on his shirt. Aizawa hadn't sat down with him because he'd been asked to. He didn't have to help him with the lily and he didn't have to cook for him. The least Toshi could do was to try and accept the help that was being offered.
"I don't belong here, Aizawa."
"You mean at the school?" he questions, sitting down.
"Look at what happened today-"
"That was an accident," Aizawa snaps.
"But I wasn't paying attention!" Toshi booms, causing the smaller man flinch. "If I'd been paying attention to my surroundings, then I wouldn't have been in danger in the first place..." he sighs, deflated.
"You're the only one that thinks that, Toshinori," Aizawa responds, eyes narrowed. He stands back up and empties his cup, refilling it with the last of the coffee in the pot. "Why did you come here?" Toshi looks to the kitchen at Aizawa leaning against the counter. "It's none of my business so you don't have to answer me, but the next time you think that you don't belong here, ask yourself that," he offers.
He had been reminding himself everyday that he was here for his successor. Every damn day he was fighting to live for that boy. Toshi's eyes fall closed and he starts to sway. Damn medication. He was sick of the pills and the nightmares. Sick of being alone and this damn scar that he hated to look at. "I hate myself," he whispers, tears welling up.
Aizawa walks back over to the couch and catches the blond as he starts to fall forward. Toshi clutches onto the man's shirt and Aizawa let's him cry. It had been a bad idea to bring this up right after Toshinori had taken his medications. The smaller man pulls him to his feet and lets out a grunt when the blond stumbles and his full weight rests against him.
"Toshinori, hold yourself up because I'm not carrying you," Aizawa warns.
"Sorry," the taller man mumbles.
Aizawa helps him into his bed, making sure his arm is propped up. His eyes have already slipped closed and there are still tears dotting his eyelashes. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he reaches out and brushes the blond's bangs from his face. He didn't know why he thought it would be a good idea to talk with Toshinori, in fact he didn't know why he was becoming so concerned with the man to begin with.
A sniffle from the blond stirs Aizawa from his thoughts and back to his sleeping face. He looks like he's in pain, his breathing is becoming labored and he's starting to whimper. Nightmares already. Aizawa's face softens and he leans down, kissing Toshinori's brow. He lets his lips linger until he relaxes.
When Toshinori's shallow sobs die down, Aizawa quietly leaves the room and makes for his phone on the coffee table. It rings only once before he hears Hizashi's voice on the other end.
"Hizashi, I'm coming with you."
Step-up Talk for Nizista - Komatsu Shohei (2/2)
Tumblr media
I like karaoke, but I don’t particularly like being alone, so right now, I’d like to have friends (lol)
T/N: This is the second half of the interview Nizista did with voice actor Komatsu Shohei. The first part of this interview could be found here - both translations are posted today because May 14 is the birthday of the character he made his debut with, Idolm@ster Side M’s Kizaki Ren. お疲れ様でした!
This entire interview is crossposted onto Wordpress for my own archiving purposes, but can also be found under the cut!
Komatsu Shohei interview (last half) – “I was blessed with really good productions, I could really feel the connections with people.”
This is an interview with Komatsu Shohei, who is part of the currently-airing TV anime DAYS (as Sato Hideki) and in Idolm@ster Side M (as Kizaki Ren). This time, we’ll be talking about his feelings at the actual site [of the recording] and about his time with his senpai.
I want to show people the acting I can do because of my previous experiences with action.
As a member of HIROZ, since Komatsu-san was mainly in charge of action performances and MC, he went to Ken Productions in order to focus on his voice. And how did he actually start his work and study?
How was being a voice actor like?
Komatsu Shohei (Komatsu, for short): I had quite a lot of confidence, and I felt that I wouldn’t lose to anyone, because I used to do plays, but...’acting’ using only one’s voice is completely different, so from the beginning my confidence had been crushed completely (lol) But since I’d decided on doing it, I thought I had to focus on studying, so I went to our company’s training school. Every time I wasn’t recording, I was studying.
Your first [named] roles are from DAYS and Idolm@ster Side M. Since DAYS is a TV anime, how was it after recording?
Komatsu: Yoshinaga Takuto-san, who plays the lead character, is a rookie, but he’s [just as] awesome as the entire main cast. Every time I studied, I got to be part of dozens of workshop class lessons. I think that I really was blessed with a really good company.
Who was impressive to you, in particular?
Komatsu: I think Matsuoka Yoshitsugu-san is amazing. He plays Kazama Jin [in DAYS], a cool character, but [in real life] he’s a more passionate man than one might think, and every time he acts I feel like he’s the very embodiment of passion. And then there’s Seki Tomokazu-san, who is good at using different voices according to the scene. Anime is all about “how much of this can you imagine?” What kind of voice would you make, if you’re the one taking the place of the character on-screen? I thought it was amazing to be able to put myself in that position.
Because it really is amazing.
Komatsu: There’s also something else that makes me happy [about being a seiyuu]. Terashima Junta-san and Hamano Daiki-san are in the same unit as me as part of Idolm@ster Side M, and we’re also all part of DAYS as well. Even up to now, after recording would end, we’d all go out to eat together. In the midst of such great senpai, I’m grateful that I got to meet them.
It really seems like a good encounter.
Komatsu: The three of us are always talking to each other. It’d be nice if we all became well-known together, and meet in other productions again.
Recently, the opportunities for you to sing have increased, so how are you with singing?
Komatsu: In anime there are character songs, there are also songs within games, and there are seiyuu who go beyond their work and end up doing lives. I thought that it’d be nice if I was someone who could sing after all, so I studied voice acting and singing at the same time. And that’s also why I ended up making a band again [at the time] (lol)
What were you in charge of in the band?
Komatsu: I used to play the guitar a bit, but at that time I was solely the vocal. But since we broke up shortly before I joined Ken Productions, it felt as if I was just practicing singing normally (lol)
Aside from songs, seiyuu also have a wide range of activities such as radio shows and events.
Komatsu: I agree. Since I’d often talked and sung in front of people, I appreciate being able to make use of my past experiences. And that is also why I do not want to miss out on other skills I might have as a seiyuu. I have a few other things I’m a part of that are not just about recording, and I know I shouldn’t be content with just that.
By the way, what kinds of roles are you good at?
Komatsu: Considering how I use the experiences with what I used to be doing, I think I can characterize myself by not thinking of myself as just “a seiyuu who can do action [stunts]” but rather as someone who can figure out “what kind of voice should one do in action scenes?” For example, what kind of breathing would one make when they’re punching someone out, what kind of voice would one make when they’re on the receiving end of a blow? I’ve actually experienced these myself, so by all means I wanna get into more anime about fighting games or action stuff. Even if there’s no one else good at action [stunts] to [work off of], I can pretend to be someone punched out just fine (lol)
If [someone who was listening to Komatsu] was to close their eyes, they’d understand completely where you’d have been hit.
Komatsu: I also do work for drama CDS, and I think would like to be a seiyuu who can express when he has been beaten, what kind of movements he has been doing, even without video. In those kinds of situations, you can’t fight with anything but your own capabilities as weapons. There are lots of young seiyuu, after all.
Do you ever feel restless?
Komatsu: Because I’m someone who hates losing, I feel frustrated each and every day. If I see other people on Twitter saying “I’ll be part of this work,” I end up saying “damnit!” And whenever I see young seiyuu appearing in anime, I end up saying “GODDAMNITTTTTT!!!”
So that also becomes your motivation.
Komatsu: That’s true. In the face of that, it’s easy to say “I’m hopeless” or feel like “I have lost.” Whenever I see young seiyuu act in anime, I end up thinking stuff like “If I were in that role, I would do it this way,” “That’s good but if they did it a little bit like this, would it be better,” and I end up actually trying that voice out loud. It’s free training, yanno (lol)
Tumblr media
When I’m just at home I usually just do stupid stuff, solo karaoke
Now knowing his past and his attitude towards work, lastly I asked Komatsu-san what kind of person he is normally, and he answered me from his heart.
You really are a person who hates losing, but can you talk about other facets of your personality?
Komatsu: I’ve also been called “too damned earnest” (lol) When I’m working there are times when I get too serious and there are times when I end up being boring, so I think I gotta study when to “let myself loose”. The way I’m thinking of going about this may be way too serious too, though (lol)
Let’s let go of work for a bit; what kind of person are you at home?
Komatsu: I keep talking about action this and action that, but on my off days I’m ridiculously the indoors type (lol) Because I didn’t wanna go outside at all, one time I bought all my food the day before, and decided “I am not gonna take even one step out of this house”, and just do stupid stuff. I watched TV and played games.
What kind of anime or games do you like?
Komatsu: I like stuff with robots in them. I’m rather good at the game “Super Robot Battle”. After I became a seiyuu, I think I’d like to do a role where I go and ride a robot.
By the way, what kinds of robots do you like?
Komatsu: The real kinds of robots, like those in Gundam. The super robots from way back are also cool, but I like those sharper kinds of robots.
Aside from that, what kind of ‘stupid stuff’ do you do?
Komatsu: Stuff so stupid that I don’t like other people knowing about it (lol)
Are you the kind of person who’s too loud in his room?
Komatsu: I’m insanely messy, and I end up looking very sloppy (lol) But since karaoke is my hobby, sometimes I’ll go out and go to the nearest karaoke place (lol) I’ll sing alone for around five to six hours.
What kind of songs do you sing?
Komatsu: Lots of kinds. I started playing guitar in high school through BUMP OF CHICKEN songs, but I also sing Visual Kei songs, songs from Johnny’s idols, female artists. I think of it as seiyuu practice, too.
Do you go out to eat with friends?
Komatsu: Fukuoka is my hometown, so I don’t have much friends living in Tokyo (lol) I didn’t go to college, and since most of the people I did the action group with are in Kagawa prefecture, I don’t have the opportunity to go out to eat with friends much. So I guess, if I get more friends through work who are as close to me as Terashima-san or Hamano-san, I’d be happy (lol)
So your wish right now is “I want friends”, isn’t it!
Komatsu: I like karaoke, but I don’t particularly like being alone, so right now, I’d like to have friends (lol) I think I’d get more friends as I get more work, though, so I’d like to have more work first! (lol)
Lastly, please tell us about your goals and what you look forward to in the future.
Komatsu: I’d realized that as I became a voice actor, my prior experience with doing action [stunts] onstage is my weapon, and I can use it to my advantage. There are also seiyuu who also take part in stage plays like Ono Kensho-san and Aoi Shouta-san, so I think it’d be nice if I were able to do that as well too, someday. But of course, first of all, I will focus on studying my voice, and as an active seiyuu, I’ll do my best to let my name be known.
Tumblr media
My intent was just to ‘do whatever’, but it was only after my first loss that I realized I was taking it seriously...
It almost sounds like lyrics from a song, but unbelievably, these are his real words. Komatsu-san said that he is the kind of person who hates losing in any way. But, when I’d actually talked to him, the gap between the passionate heart of his that hates losing and his ever-smiling face that talks about ‘doing stupid things’ is also charming.
I think that whether it be in DAYS or Idolm@ster Side M, he had been blessed with good productions and good companions. And I look forward to his rapid growth, to him being part of series and stage performances making good use of his action [stunts], as well as roles that are far from the ones Komatsu-san are taking now; I look forward to see what kind of figure he’ll end up showing.
