the smoke from the wildfires in canada are crossing the atlantic and is now bringing a haze to the nordic countries
it's said that the soot from the smoke will deposit onto the snow and ice of the arctic which will in turn increase local warming (i.e worst wildfires, ice sheets melting, oceans warming and rising, stronger tropical cyclones, etc. etc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the NY Times (and other sources):
Ways to Help
The Canadian Red Cross: Every $1 donated to the Canadian Red Cross will become $3 to support those affected by wildfires. The funds will be directed to people living in Nova Scotia and other Atlantic provinces, some of the hardest hit areas, for immediate and ongoing relief and recovery efforts as well as community preparedness initiatives.
United Way: The Canadian federal government joined the government of the Northwest Territories in a similar matching program to support disaster relief and recovery efforts. The funds will be used to support nonprofit community groups who are helping local residents.
Donate a Mask: This volunteer-run charity ships free N95-equivalent masks to anyone in Canada who requests them, with priority to Canadians who cannot afford or do not have access to high-quality masks.
Firefighters Without Borders: This Ontario-based nonprofit donates equipment and training to communities across Canada and in other countries.
Odawa Native Friendship Centre: The Odawa NFC is a nonprofit organization serving the Indigenous community in the Ottawa-Carleton region and is currently collecting donations for First Nation evacuees (with “wildfire evacuees” as the donation type). On Facebook, the NFC noted that it can no longer accept clothing donations.
Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC): Live map of the fires. Updated daily.
APTN National News: Newspaper on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Can be used to understand how the climate is affecting the Inuit, Métis, and First Nations.

With thousands of people affected by wildfires across B.C., many people are offering to help out. The United Way of B.C.'s Southern Interior recently put a call out for blankets to help support evacuees displaced by wildfires in Kelowna and West Kelowna. But unless you are responding to a specific need, established charities and support groups say the best way to help is through monetary donations, or registering to volunteer, so resources can be directed to where they are needed. Groups advise against making unsolicited donations of food or goods, which require additional resources to coordinate and may go to waste. That sentiment is echoed by the B.C. Wildfire Service, which says it cannot accept donations of food, supplies, or equipment, nor can individual members. Instead, it suggests those wishing to help work with organizations like the Canadian Red Cross, which has launched an appeal to help support people affected by wildfires. Canadians wishing to make a donation can do so online or by calling 1-800-418-1111. The United Way of B.C. has also started a campaign.

You need to stop pretending that you like Endeavor! You don't. And it's fine. You are not obligated to like the character you don't like. But that doesn't give you the right to dismiss what Hori wrote because you have some biase opinion forward the character. Endeavor did step up as a father, and it started from the license exam, when he started thinking what powers mean, then after the high end fight, he tried to talk to Natsu he, funny enough, didn't want to talk, but Endeavor still followed him and talked to him, then we got the Agency arc, Endeavor still keep contact with Fuyumi and talks to her, thanks her for everything, and ended that arc by assuring Natsu, he is not seeking forgiveness, it's ok to hate him, and the reason why he froze was he thought if he saved Natsu he would have never talked to him ever again, and finally the aftermath of PLW, the heroes were searching for Shigaraki and co, Endeavor was desperately trying to find Dabi, he couldn't talk to him because Dabi was hiding with AFO. the final arc started with Shoto’s way of punishing Endeavor, by not letting him fight Dabi and forcing him to fight AFO, Shoto wanted to handle Dabi, but couldn't stop him, Dabi teleported to Endeavor’s location and started burning the area around them, the same place kids who Dabi burned in the last war, Tokoyami who is too weak to fire, and Jiro who got her ear bitten off by AFO, Hawks asked Endeavor to lead Dabi away so they can deal with AFO, Twice’s a clone and angry sad Toga, he wasn't running away, he was trying to save the kids from the flame he created, he tried to reason with Dabo, telling him to turn off his fire, but Dabi’s fire burned his brain, he couldn't think, Endeavor realized he must save his family from the explosion, to sit on the table and be happy, even if he couldn't be there, he was thinking about his family when he was hugging Dabi, when Rei and the kids came, Endeavor begged Dabi to kill him alone, to not hurt them, he didn't know what to do because Dabi didn't want to talk or listen, but thanks tonShoto stopping Dabi, Endeavor was able to talk to him. Your whole “Endeavor chose to be a hero over his family” which is wrong, Endeavor chose action and words to atone. But he couldn't talk to 1) Rei: because she was still afraid, 2) Dabi because he disappeared after the war 3) Natsu: because he didn't want to talk to Endeavor. Your philosophical rant about Endeavor running away metaphorically doesn't work. And yes, I read your blog, you are willing to write OOC headcanons about Dabi teaming up with Shoto to save the evacuees rather than understanding some canon fact as Endeavor was drawing Dabi away to deal with him.
I don't pretend to like Endeavor, because I never did. I said I like the themes he represent in the manga. There is a difference.
However, I do not accept rants from people who cannot tell the difference between the manga and anime-only distortions.
Endeavor did not go after Natsuo. Go back, read Ch 192. That's anime-fabrication
"Endeavor still keep contact with Fuyumi and talks to her," - how is this something note-worthy? This is like bare human minimum. Fuyumi makes all the openings to Endeavor. Thanking her for all the tremendous work she does is not some big father-like gesture. It should be the bare minimum. Yet, it only occurs to Endeavor to say it after Izuku profoundly thanks her and even Bakugou does in his own backwards way.
Tumblr media
3. Yes, we all know the reasons - does it ever occur to you that Endeavor's thoughts are not the OBJECTIVE TRUTH? Like the dude also justified it to himself that he's pushing for extra kids to help Touya, but we all know that wasn't the reason, but because he wanted his perfect heir.
4. Let's just forget then how Endeavor:
Did not speak to Touya during the reveal other than to tell him it's a lie.
Tumblr media
Did not try to go after Touya who was burning down publicly a house because he realized his father won't look for him, despite his promise to Shouto. And no Endeavor did not do jack shit during the Dark Deku arc that some other hero couldn't have done. He chose to play hero instead of keeping his promise to his family.
Tumblr media
When he saw his son in funeral outfit in the parking lot, he didn't try to talk to him, didn't say his name. He left Shouto deal with his suicidal brother.
Tumblr media
When Touya gets to Gunga, he still doesn't talk to him.
Tumblr media
In fact he does not call Touya his name or try or reason with him until he hears about the explosion.
His murder -suicide plan is not about his family, but about trying to save the bystanders, which is what a hero would do.
Rei and the others don’t want Touya to die, but Endeavor doesn’t for a moment try to save him, and doesn’t think he can.
It always astonishes me what low standards there are when it comes to Endeavor. But none of this behaviour says “stepping up as dad”. It takes Touya burning himself to death, the entire family intervening, Shouto fighting on two different battlefield to get Endeavor say something as simple that he could have done at Jakku - to say sorry for not going to Sekoto peak.

*ISRAEL REALTIME* - "Connecting the World to Israel in Realtime"
🔹Rockets from Gaza… short range, 1 round, near-Gaza town.
▪️GUNS IN INCUBATORS… not in the baby basket, pistols in the heating element controls.  Essential medical equipment.  Found in a Gaza hospital.
▪️HERO SOLDIERS FALL… 3 fall, one killed in a Lebanon border suicide drone attack, two in Gaza fighting.
▪️PM NETANYAHU… Netanyahu on the question of why he did not cancel the Oslo Accords: 30 years you accused me of preventing a Palestinian state, now you accuse me of not?
▪️RETURN TO NEAR-GAZA TOWNS?  Defense Minister Gallant: The evacuees of the south will soon begin to be returned to their homes.  Heads of Near-Gaza towns:  "We will not return until the threat is removed."  ME: Rockets this morning at near-Gaza town (and literally daily, multiple times a day).  These are the towns being considered: Zikim, Karmia, Yad Mordechai, Erez, Nir Am, Kfar Gaza, Alumim, Bari, Magen and Nir Yitzhak.    The heads of the towns are furious about the intention to return residents soon because the threat has not been removed, they have not yet restored security or created new security protections, nor provided any funding for recovery or safety!
▪️AMIT SEGAL, CH. 12, FOR THOSE PROTESTING AND DISTRAUGHT HOSTAGE FAMILIES… a message from the facts department:
* The kidnapping deal was a major Israeli achievement. The negligible payment in released terrorists (only 3:1) shows how much the military pressure had an effect.
* No one in the cabinet blocked the deal.
* There is no realistic offer on the table.
* It is possible that "there is no victory without the return of the hostages” but it is clear that the return of the hostages in itself does not constitute a victory, merely a reduction of a humiliating defeat.
* Victory will be the eradication of the Hamas murder organization's ability to launch rockets and carry out murderous campaigns within our borders, and then when we have returned our hostages. It would be a sad victory without parades and fireworks, but without it our lives here would be hell.
(( He writes “lives here would be hell”… too mild.  Nobody will voluntarily live near the Gaza border nor near the Lebanon border if Israel doesn’t have a strong victory and major deference.  Or in other words, 30% of the country becomes uninhabitable. ))
▪️HAMAS SAYS… Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan, last evening:  There is no prisoner exchange deal before the ceasefire and acceptance of the "resistance" conditions.  The senior official of Islamic Jihad, Ali Abu Shaheen:  We are ready for a prisoner exchange deal only after a ceasefire and we stand by this condition.
▪️GOOD DOGGY… IDF publishes video of IDF K-9 identifying an explosive device and saving soldiers from an IED attack in the Gaza Strip, causing a storm and outrage among Muslims on social media.  Why?  The doggie’s name is Aisha, a name of one of their prophet’s wives.  Wikipedia “A preponderance of classical sources converge on the prophet’s wife Aisha being 6 or 7 years old at the time of her marriage, and 9 at the consummation.”
▪️JUDEA-SAMARIA NIGHTLY ANTI-TERROR ACTIVITY CONTINUES… Drone strike against terrorist squads in the Noor al-Shams camp in Tulkarm, after which they fired at our forces and threw explosives. According to reports, several wanted terrorists were killed or wounded.

i'm sure someone else has pointed this out too but it's really hard for me to believe that people would accept the same "hamas uses human shields so we must bomb civilians" logic in other contexts
like if there was a hostage situation in finland and the military bombed the building, killing everyone inside to stop the kidnappers, it would be unthinkable. no one would ever accept it. ever
but when it comes to palestine, people think it's reasonable to blame hamas for israel killing civilians. but like. they could just not do that. they could not kill dozens or hundreds of civilians to kill "terrorists". even if hamas was the worst terrorist organization out there, it would still be unacceptable
(thoughts i had again after seeing finnish state media news post a headline that posed the question "did hamas try to smuggle their soldiers into egypt among evacuees?", thus covertly implying that bombing evacuating civilians is ok because there might've been hamas members among them. hope the reporters involved kill themselves btw)

Mimic Chapter 43
Tumblr media
Fighting for love and friendship can Class 1-A return their classmate that is near and dear to all of them.
Words- 6154
Izuku Midoriya x Reader
Warnings: Angst, fighting, Class 1-A vs Midoriya, just sad reader and Izuku relationship, TARTARUS ESCAPEES ARC SPOILERS
Silence filled the halls of U.A. as you all walked through them. No words were spoken between any of you as you headed to Principal Nezu’s office. Just leaving the dorms you felt heightened with fear and nerves as you kept yourself hidden behind your classmates but the refugees could catch glimpse of you believing you a ghost, a white flash or red eyes peering back at them sent the turning in the opposite direction or pulling their kids away from you. Mina’s hand was in yours squeezing it in comfort but it didn’t bring any relief from the fear in each of them.
“Principal…this was a trap?!” Endeavor groans seeing your class together having blocked the one exit out his scans over you all almost hesitating seeing your face amongst the students.
“I heard the children out and determined that this meeting was warranted. I’m always open to change based on the facts.” Nezu admits and Endeavor sighs his back towards you all.
“Why have you been ignoring me?” Todoroki steps forward to his father, “I thought…we were going to stop Touya together!”
“Shoto…your willingness alone means the world to me.” Endeavor says a look of regret covers his face.
“Well, it doesn’t mean much to me without action. Why is Midoriya the only one with a free pass?! Endeavor…you’re letting Deku and All Might operate together aren’t you?” Todoroki yells at him and the hero's lack of silence answers his question.
“Thought so…” Bakugo says stepping forward, “In any situation, it was the right move. But you don’t know the first thing about Deku…He’s screwed up in the head. The guy never takes himself into account. Just says crap like ‘I’m fine.’ All Might became the Symbol of Peace with the same mindset. So he won’t be the one to stop Deku. Listen Endeavor! You can’t leave those two alone with each other! Not them!”
Endeavor is silent before slowly pulling out a phone, “But…”
“Yo. Does that thing have GPS tracking?” Sero points out and Endeavor stays silent before tossing the device and Sero, Hagakure, Mineta, and Koda go diving toward it.
“M-mind if we borrow this sir?! Cuz…well…it’s only by chance I wound up in the same class as the guy, but still!” Sero breathes out clutching the phone like it was made of glass.
“I feel the same way…we’ve only spent a year together…but that’s plenty,” Koda whispers.
“He never opened up to us about One For All…and he expected that letter to put us at ease. That came as a shock to us.” Todoroki says looking to the floor.
“We of Class A intend to find him, follow him, and work alongside him. No matter how great a burden One For All may be…Midoriya is our friend. And we can’t very well be expected to go smiling into the future…knowing that our friend is walking this thorny path alone.” Iida says.
“It’s too dangerous out there. Law and Order are a thing of the past. Even you kids would be-” Endeavor speaks up.
“You’ve certainly matured…Todoroki! Given the villains now pursue him…and that he wished to leave U.A. I authorized the team-up. However, he’s free to return to us at any time.” Nezu says and you all are shocked, “From the moment a student is accepted into this school..they fall under our protection.”
“But what about the safety of the evacuees..? Among them, there’s still..” “A proper evacuation shelter must be more than simply a plot of land. I shall have to reassure them somehow. Our security system was fortified for the school festival though it has yet to see any use. I’m talking about the U.A. barrier. It will prove its worth. In any case, All Might also attended this school you know?” Nezu says before he looks over meeting your gaze, “And with the current occupants haven’t caused any problems or alerted much.” Endeavor turns meeting your cold gaze as you look back at him. It only seemed like yesterday when you joined his agency excited to learn more about hero work and now you lost everything an empty shell of a person.
“So, go on…do what you must to bring them back to us,” Nezu says with final approval. Your class dispute many returning to the dorm while a few of you stay back, Todoroki speaking final words to his father before he turns leaving frustration on his face. Endeavor watches as his son leave before his gaze moves to meet yours.
“Shimura..” He breathes out.
“Endeavor.” You respond your voice chilling as the two of you stand looking at each other.
“I’m sorry for everything that's-” He goes to speak but you cut him off.
“I’m tired of apologizes Endeavor, it’s not going to do anything.” You say shoving your hands in your pockets, “Not going to give my quirk back, heal my body, bring back Izuku..nothing. Just tell me he’s okay.”
His face is deep with regret and pity, you lived enough for one child’s life and continued to live more. “He’s going through a lot…more than any of us..he’s alive but well…I can’t say.”
You nod before sharply turning and walking out of the room Mina and Kirishima follow after you her hand slipping within yours same with the boy. “We’ll find Midoriya,” Kirishima says squeezing your hand.
“It’s not that I don’t believe you’ll find him..it’s if you can get him to come back is what I fear.” You say. That boy’s will and mind would exceed anything humanly possible. It would take the full force of your class to bring that boy down.
So they prepared following where he traveled until their plan was created and the day came Midoriya appeared in Kamino Ward right at the statue commemorating the fight between All Might and All For One..the moment when you really learned about yourself.
“You won’t come..” Mina says surprised when they all convened in the common area of the dorm all dressed in their hero costumes but you appeared dressed in your school uniform.
“I’ll just be a liability during the fight against Midoriya…you all need to keep your heads sharp not constantly thinking about me.” You say rubbing your arm absentmindedly tracing the scars along your arm.
“None of us think that besides if we’re doing this as a class we’ll need everyone’s help,” Kaminari says trying to convince you but you shake your head.
“I would only paint a target on all of your backs. It’s safer if I stay behind for everyone’s safety. If All For One knows that I’m still alive we don’t if he might strike and try to take One For All from both Midoriya and me if we are together.” You explain…as far as the world knew outside of U.A. and a few selected Pro Heroes, Y/n Shimura died on the battlefield her injuries too severe, and had passed. It wasn’t hard to get a few N.D.A for doctors involved in your time during surgery and during recovery. Your death record was quickly created and Y/n Shimura was a dead woman. For the few the had seen you with the public information saying you were dead people wouldn’t believe a few conspiracies despite the fact that you were alive. It was safer that remained isolated away from populated areas from the fight away from the outside world.
“You’re not some prisoner here! You should be able to join us-” “IT WAS MY DECISION.”
“I have no quirk…I haven’t trained at all since returning just drop it please!” You say ending the conversation and silence covers the room…”I’m sorry…just be safe all of you.” You say looking at each of them and they nod saying their goodbyes before heading out for their mission. To get Izuku Midoriya back.
And as Midoriya lies there the rain pours down on him letting the civilians attack him and his will to fight leaves. An explosion from the sky hits the villain right on the head stopping his quirk.
“That punk…He’s here guys!” Bakugo yells out and that’s when they all jump into action a wave of ice freezes the villain and places restraints placed on him.
“Prison escapee secured! Splendid work, Bakugo!” Momo calls out.
“That’s Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight to you!” Bakugo growls out and the girl apologizes.
“Everyone…but why..?” Midoriya huffs out.
“We’re worried about you.” Uraraka calls and Midoriya shakes his head grabbing his mask secured to his face.
“But…I’m fine. So don’t worry…and get away from me..” He says
“Wow, real inspirin’,” Bakugo cackles clapping obnoxiously, “All hail the mighty inheritor of One For All! But tell us this…are you smilin’ now?” Bakugo yells at the boy and his silence responds.
“Those smiles…everyone’s peace of mind. Those are the reasons I need to keep going, so…” One For All fills his veins a menacing presence surrounding him, “GET OUT OF MY WAY!”
“DO YOUR WORST, YOU ALL MIGHT WANNABE!!” “We knew Midoriya would be the same as ever. Stand strong everyone!”
“We heard how you unlocked the fourth and sixth! You damn nerd!” Bakugo yells out and Midoriya straight at them.
“...you all came or me. Thanks, but…” Midoriya speaks up before a smoke completely clouds their vision.
“Don’t let him get away!” Bakugo yells out slamming his gauntlet to the ground and sending an explosion that clears out the smoke, “Don’t wanna chat, uhh? You just gonna sneak off then? So now that you’re one of the all-powerful big shots…are we just a buncha NPCs to you?!” As Midoriya rushes away a flock of birds scoops him in midair.
“They said you could come back to school!! You hear that Midoriya?” Koda yells out for once in his life at the boy, “The principal is ready to welcome you back! Got that?! So stop running away!”
Midoriya shoots Blackwhip at the building pulling away from Koda’s attack but is intercepted by Sero and his tape.
“The Blackwhip of yours is kinda freaky. No wonder people are scared!” Sero yells out as Midoriya twists himself free from the tape right in the range of Jiro’s earphone jacks. Using airforce to dodge the sonic waves.
“Hey, Midoriya! I dunno if it’ll matter but for what it’s worth..remember when you helped me organize my notes and gave me tips for the school festival? You really helped me back then! It might not seem like much, but I appreciated that so much!” Jiro yells out at him and Ojiro jumps in his tail wrapping around the boy.
“Remember that stuff with Shinso, back at the Sports Festival?! I’ll never forget how mad you got…on my behalf!! So how can I sit back when you’re the ONLY ONE fighting and running yourself ragged out here? My presence is a danger to all of you!” Ojiro yells out and is shocked that Midroiya breaking free from his grasp. Flashes of the events during the battle with Shigaraki flash through his mind. All those who got hurt.
“I CAN’T LET ALL FOR ONE TAKE YOU ALL AWAY FROM ME! THAT’S WHY I HAD TO LEAVE!” Midoriya yells breaking free only to be grabbed by Tokoyami and Dark Shadow.
“Thurst, Dark Shadow!!” Tokoyami yells out and Midoriya is slammed into the building.
“He’s gotten way too strong!” Jiro yells out having been grabbed by Sato.
“Serious strength of will too,” Ojiro adds.
“Midoriya! Open your ears!” Sato yells out landing on a traffic light holding the two of his classmates, “You might have some special power but…we understand how you feel! We all feel the same way! Plus, there's what Koda said about the school! You gotta hear us out! If not….I’m never lending you food dye for Eri’s candy apples ever again!”
Midoriya hits a pillar of cement held down by Dark Shadow and metal straps come over him. “That’s fine! Eri…doesn’t need me. It doesn’t have to be me!” A mask comes down on him covering his face.
“You should know that we intended to join you in your efforts. We’ve been authorized to use our quirks to aid Endeavor and the other heroes…for this mission to ensure your safety,” Momo says looking down at the boy, the machine to make him sleep, he slams his head forward breaking the machine and Tokoyami makes his hold on him stronger.
“Enough…stop wasting effort…on me!” Midoriya pushes himself to his feet pushing forward, “Just get away from me…!”
“Not a chance, pal!” Kaminari says wrapping his arm around his shoulder with a smile on his face, “Midoriya! We get that One For All is really important but…you got something even more important in your life! Me and you..we ain’t got a ton in common, but you’re still a friend! Even if we gotta force this friendship down your throat!”
Arms wrap around Midoriya and Kaminari, Shoji, “This is insulating tape Yaoyorozu made for my tentacles..’a lineup like this might even give All Might a scare’ That’s what you said during the attack on our training camp.” Shoji says and Dark Shadow appears fully encasing the two boys.
“Dark Shadow indulges in the darkness. Repurposing Dark Shadow’s offense in service of defense…was a concept birthed by you Midoriya.” Tokoyami says.
“Do you see us as more victims who need protection and coddling?!” Shoji yells out.
“And don’tcha miss bathing?! You need a bath real bad Midoriya!!” Kaminari yells out electricity sparking off his body. A scream rips through Midoriya as he breaks free from Dark Shadow’s Ragnarok hurtling out of the building into the air.
“He pried apart the bindings of Ragnarok!”
“UGHHH! STOP! STOP ALREADY!!” SO PLEASE GET AWAY FROM ME. I’M BEGGING YOU! I MEAN IT! I’M FINE!!” Midoriya yells out his mask fallen from his face, the dirt and sweat cover his face but the tiredness clearly seen in his face. A pillar of ice suddenly appears and Midoriya slams into it trapped inside.
“What a look you have on your face…is this responsibility…so much for you that you can’t even let yourself cry?” Todoroki calls out to him on top of the ice, “Seems like a burden…you should share with the rest of us.”
“Not so fast.” Tsuyu calls out on the side of one of the buildings, “Because you matter to me. You’re my friend, and when we’re scared, we tremble together. When times are tough, we cry together. So, if you’re dead set on being some comic book superhero…then Class A won’t let you live that fantasy alone.”
The ice cracks from underneath Todoroki, “Midoriya! Did you ever think that maybe All For One wants you in this state? He might seize this chance to attack U.A.!! Running around to keep off the radar has left you looking like, well, THAT! So at least consider this backup plan! U.A. matters to you, right? You want to protect it! Shimura’s at U.A. now! How can you protect her if you’re out here? Sticking with us is a valid option!! LET US JOIN YOUR FIGHT!!”
“No. Can’t.” Midoriya shakes his head One For All cracking the ice and breaking him free, “This fight is between…One For All and All For One. YOU ALL CAN’T KEEP UP.” Bursting free Midoriya shoots into the air.
“Midoriya!” Tsuyu yells out swiping her tongue out and Midoriya dodges in midair but something attaches to him looking back he sees Mineta attached with a chain of his quirk.
“I never thought it was your power that made you awesome! I feel for you…when you were scared and sweating buckets…and quaking in your boots! Back when we found a path forward together the way you were back then!” Mineta yells out tears in his eyes. Blackwhip shoots out of Midoriya sending Mineta back.
“Sorry, Mineta! That old me is gone…” Midoriya yells out Blackwhip attaching to two buildings in almost a slingshot preparing blackwhip, 45% of One For All and Fa Jin.
“You’re not going anywhere!” Uraraka yells out coming down from above him, “Things are different now…including me!” Midoriya shoots past Uraraka far up in the air, “NOW GUYS!!”
A ramp of ice was quickly created most of the class on top of it. “Acidman! Protective coating style at 0.1 percent acidity!” Mina yells out creating a covering in front of Bakugo and Todoroki.
“GO TODOROKI!” The two boys are shot forward with Dark Shadow shoving them forward and with Flashfreeze Heatwave, the two are up in the air. Speeding past Uraraka who touches them with their quirk to make them weightless they move faster.
“You say we can’t keep up, huh?!” Todoroki yells out and Bakugo blast forward.
“BLASTING SPEED TURBO…CLUSTER!!” Bakugo yells out. There were many things he had to say but for now, he was handing the mic to a guy built for the speed. Letting out a fierce explosion their class president is sent flying into the air and he reaches Midoriya latching onto his hand.
“But, No…You can’t…! Just let go!” Midoriya cries out tears flooding his eyes.
“I WILL NOT!” Iida yells out looking at the boy, “Ingenium the hero…will dash across the land to take a lost child by the hand. ‘Because giving help that’s not asked for…is what makes a true hero.’.” Bringing Midoriya closer to him looking down as Uraraka releases her quirk the two are sent hurtling down. “How can I…stick this landing?” Seeing a faint red within the rain. Kirishima! The two lands within his arms and are sent skidding back on the ground.
“WHOA! Are you okay?!” Hagakure yells out running up to them.
“I…WON’T BREAK!! Midoriya! A while back…this one story threw me for a loop! Some kid my age dashed into danger to save a pal! That had to be you right?!” Kirishima yells at the boy as he lets go of Iida still holding onto Midoriya, “That didn’t have squat to do with special powers or anything. What you did back then…is the same sorta action we’re taking for you now!”
“Stellar positioning on your part Kirishima.” Iida compliments the boy.
“Just happened to be there while following Endeavor’s orders, dude!” Kirishima replies as the rest of the class arrives.
“Midoriya!” Mina calls out wiping the rain from her face, “I can’t stand the thought of losing anyone else, ‘kay? So…won’t you stick with us? We’ve got classes to attend and stuff.” Midoriya pushes himself up but his classmates worried about the boy so weak.
“I’d like that…but…I’m too scared for all the people in U.A.! I don’t want to make trouble for anyone else! Things just…can’t go back to how they used to be. Not anymore.” Midoriya mumbles out exhaustion crawling at him but the will to fight is still present.
“Hey. Remember what I said when Shigaraki made swiss cheese outta me?” Bakugo steps forward to him. “No. I don’t.”
“It was ‘stop trying to win this on your own.’ But I had more to say. I needed to tell you that I got stabbed cuz my body moved on its own. Maybe to the fact that your damn girlfriend was screaming at me to keep you alive but that’s beside the point.” He shakes his head, “You know I always looked down on you cuz you were quirkless. You were supposed to be beneath me…but I kept feeling like you were above me. I hated it. I couldn’t beat to look at you. I couldn’t accept the way you were.” The boy confesses all his insecurities in front of Midoriya..in front of his classmates.
“So I kept you at arms length and was mean to you. I tried to act all superior by rejecting you…but I kept losing that fight. Since we got into U.A…nothing’s worked out how I thought it would. Instead, this past year forced me to understand your strength and my weakness. Now, I don’t expect this to change a thing between us, but I gotta speak…my truth.” Bakugo tilts his head down in shame.
“Izuku…I’m sorry for everything.”
The runaway hero’s eyes widened. All his life meeting Kacchan and becoming friends with him before it changed he was only referred to as Deku or Damn Nerd or any insult he could come up with. Hearing his name come out of his mouth meant something that seemed to break the walls he put up when he left U.A. The rain fills the air for a second before Bakugo speaks again, “There’s nothing wrong with the path you’ve been walking down…since inheriting One For All and following All Might’s lead. But now..you’re barely standing. And those ideals alone ain’t enough to get you over the wall you’re facing.” Bakugo points his hand out to his classmates, “We’re here to step in when you can’t handle it all on your own. Because to live up to those ideals and surpass All Might…we gotta save you the civilians at U.A., and the people on the streets. Because saving people is how we win.”
“Besides you got one hell of a woman ready to tear the world apart waiting for you when you come back.” Bakugo scoffs. But his words held meaning..your mind had only been focused on one thing and everything including your own life was less important.
Tears slip down Midoriya’s face though masked by the rain, “I said you all couldn’t keep up with me. I’m so sorry I said something…so awful.” He stumbles forward the exhaustion hitting him falling into Bakugo’s arms completely unconscious.
“We get it,” Bakugo says looking down at the boy everyone letting out a sigh of relief.
“With that our first challenge…is cleared. But the road ahead will be perilous.” Momo says to Uraraka stands beside her and looks forward as the rest of the class crowds around the boy.
“Yeah!”
You were sat in the dorm both Mirio and Eri with you the young girl was doodling on some paper a pair of cat headphones on her head as you sit beside her a soft smile on your smile watching her draw bobbing her head slightly to the music.
“You know she could it for you,” Mirio says and you look away from the girl to the boy sitting on the couch next to you. “She’s gotten better control of her quirk. She was able to do it for me she could do it for you.”
You’re silent looking back at the girl who is drawing a picture of herself, what looks like Midoriya and Mirio in their hero costumes, Aizawa surrounded by cats, and you with your white hair and red eyes. “I…It’s safer for others if I remain quirkless..as far as the rest of the world is concerned..Y/n Shimura is dead.” You say reaching your hand out petting the young girl’s hair and she doesn’t pay mind to it.
“But in the event, if we need to fight again…it would be smart to have all our fighters there. That includes you.” Mirio says and you still look at the young girl…how her life was so similar to you but she was saved she was able to smile and now have happy memories.
“I don’t know…if the world were to find out the sister of a war criminal was alive and had regained her quirk…it would cause a whole other war over it. It’s better that it stays like this.” You say and it’s quiet before a ringtone fills the room Mirio pulls out his phone looking at it before looking at you.
“They got Midoriya back.”
You worked on slipping on a coat dressed in regular clothes before fixing a hat over your head making sure your hair was hidden as Mirio buttoned up a raincoat on Eri helping her into rainboots.
“Where are we going?” Eri says curiously and you look back at her as you finish hiding your hair she comes over to you grabbing your hand while Miro grabs an umbrella for the three of you.
“We’re just meeting a friend who’s back.” You say a small smile on your face and Eri nods a smile growing on her face.
“A new friend?” She asks and you shake your head as you go to open the door heading outside Mirio is already ready with the umbrella.
“An old friend Eri, you’ll know him when you see him.” You say and the three of you head towards the front of U.A. where a large crowd has formed the rain falling down on all of you.
“DON’T LET THAT BOY TAKE ONE STEP...INTO U.A.!!” Someone yells out and the three of you make your way towards the front but to the side where you see your classmates standing there but you still couldn’t see him.
“They say Shigaraki was targeting some kid…and he’s the one isn’t he?!” Someone else yells out and you see Present Mic trying to calm them all down.
“Didn’t you all hear the principal’s explanation? He guaranteed our safety, no matter what.” Another voice speaks up.
“What, and you were convinced by that crap?! We abandoned our homes and came here cus we thought we’d be safe! So what’s this ticking time bomb here?!” A man yells out frustration and tension high.
“He’s just a child!” Another comment. “And! That girl was a child and was still All For One’s weapon… she and Shigaraki probably planned this whole thing..it’s a good thing she’s six feet under.” Someone yells out and you feel your heart skip a beat being spoken about. Eri tugs your hand and you look down at her.
“Who are they talking about?” She says her eyes wide with confusion.
“Just someone sweetheart nothing to worry about.” You say before you bend down pulling her up into your arms resting her on your hip and she rests her head on your shoulder. You make eye contact with Mirio who is looking back at you before you turned forward.
“Why’s it gotta be U.A., huh?! Let him hide someplace else!” “Having One For All makes him a Nomu right?!” “We’re just supposed to let him hide here?!” The crowd was a riot split between those who believe Midoriya should be able to stay and the others that want him to get outta here.
“Let’s keep calm folks!” Present Mic yells out and that’s when Best Jeanist appears.
“It’s Jeanist!!” “We’re only here because we trusted you!”
“Indeed! As the principal has explained, U.A. is currently the safest place to be! Your safety is our top priority! At first…we decide to take the fight to the enemy we used Izuku Midoriya as bait in hopes of learning the villains’ location! However our search grid wasn’t sufficiently wide enough, and the operation met with limited success!” Best Jeanist explains to you all, “Izuku Midoriya may be the villain’s target..but he is also one of our ultimate resources in battle! Allowing him to grow even more worn and frayed could lead to a fatal loss! Is this the optimal course of action? No! We now rely on our backup plan! I understand why you do not willingly welcome this omen of unease…but please allow him to rest his weary body in this secure stronghold! So that…when needed…he can once again join the battle in peak condition!” Best Jeanist finishes and silence fills the air before someone speaks up.
“You losers failed…and let Japan turn into this lawless wasteland. And now…you failed again…and you’re out here telling US…to pay the price for more of your mistakes?!”
“NO WAY!” “SOME HEROES YOU ARE!” “GIVE US A FREAKIN BREAK!! ALL WE WANT…IS A SAFE PLACE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT!” Panic quickly spread as they go to move forward your hold on the girl tightens as people push past you and Mirio and the blonde clutches your arm to keep the three of you together. In a flash, someone is above you all.
“Dek- Izuku Midoriya…has a special power in him!” Uraraka’s voice rings out through the megaphone in her hand as she stands on the top of the U.A. building.
“Yeah? Good for him! He wants a break? So what! He doesn’t gotta rest here!”
“You don’t get it!” Uraraka yells out, “He left school in the first place because he didn’t want to make trouble for anyone! We were the ones who brought him back! That power of his…yeah, it’s really special! It’s a power that exists to beat All For One! That’s why they’re after him! That’s why he had to leave this place!! He left…and went through who knows what’s out there. Take a good look at him!!”
You look over at him almost shocked at his appearance, his clothing is ripped up worse than during the fighting the green uniform is almost black with dirt and grime and it looks like he’s gotten a wink of sleep or anything to keep himself healthy. Had he even eaten? He was more focused tell you to keep yourself alive but he was on his last limbs. “More than anyone, he wishes he could fix everything. You’re looking at a guy who could be attacked at any second but continues to move forward anyway. SO REALLY LOOK AT HIM PLEASE!! SPECIAL POWERS ARE ONE THING!! BUT THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A SPECIAL PERSON!”
“He’s looking ragged, huh?” “Kinda weak and worn-out..” “Yes, he’s been fighting.”  A woman speaks up, “He saved me out there…and he’s been fighting this whole time..” While many seemed torn now some were still unconvinced.
“You want us to look at him? So what?! Don’t tell me..that we should be covered in filth too?!!”
“NO! HEROES ARE THE ONLY ONES COATED IN THAT FILTH! SO GIVE HIM A MOMENT TO REST TO WASH AWAY THE GRIME! IF YOU WANT ME TO STAND UP HERE AND REASSURE YOU, I’M SORRY I CAN’T DO THAT RIGHT NOW! THAT’S BECAUSE WE’RE ALL GRIPPED BY THE SAME FEAR AND UNEASE” Uraraka yells out her own fear but almost confidence coming through,” WE’RE ALL NEIGHBORS HERE-INCLUDING HIM! PLEASE LEND HIM YOUR STRENGTH…SO WE HAVE A SHOT AT SMILING TOGETHER INTO THE FUTURE! WHAT HE NEEDS IS YOUR HELP! PLEASE! FIND IT IN YOUR HEARTS TO LET HIM REST AND RECOVER…TOGETHER WITH ALL OF US! IZUKU MIDORIYA…IS TRYING TO TAKE ON ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT COMES WITH HIS POWER, BUT HE’S STILL GOT PLENTY TO LEARN HIMSELF! HE’S JUST A REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL KID!”
“Yeah, but…”
Midoriya hits the ground tears filling his eyes
“THIS PLACE…IS HIS…HERO ACADEMY! LET HIM STAY HERE!”
The girl within your arms shimmy out hitting the ground and rushing forward, “Eri!” you yell out trying to go after her but Mirio grabs your arm. You watch the young girl rush forward and you see a familiar boy and the same woman who was defending Midoriya.
Mineta rushes forward but Iida’s arm cuts him off, “Midoriya…what gives, Iida?”
“This…isn’t our moment,” Iida says looking up at the girl standing on the roof tears in her eyes, isn’t that right? Uraraka?
“Midoriya!! I’m sorry I was too scared to run over here! Sorry! So sorry!” Kota cries out tears pouring out of his eyes, “But then! That lady stood up and said that stuff! I…I had to try because I wanna be like you! That’s why…I am here! Get it? You don’t gotta cry anymore you’ll be okay!”
“Oh…Kota!” Midoriya cries out before another body collides with him and he looks up to see a small girl with light blue hair. She holds his face with light tears brim her eyes, “Don’t cry remember we look after each. We save each other!” Tears pour more down his face seeing the small girl he saved in front of him.
“Eri…”
“You’re a U.A. student then?” The woman says pulling the boy to his feet as Eri stays by his feet.
“Yes, Miss!”
“Several shelters turned me away…no heteromorphs allowed they said. It was one rejection after the next until U.A. finally took me in. But, well this means I get to see you again. How lucky for me. Thank you for saving me…my crybaby hero.” She thanks him bending down and hugging him and Kota and Eri join in hugging the poor boy. The rain still pours down on all of you before a man steps forward giving away his umbrella.
“Instead of freaking out and laying the blame every which way…why don’t we take a moment and hear these folks out? The boy’s not asking to kick up his feet and stay here forever, right?!” He holds his hands out, “But supplies and good help are hard to find out there these days…so if the boy needs a break before the world grinds him down to nothing, this place is his last best bet! That’s the long and short of it, right heroes?!” He says turning to look at Principal Nezu who nods.
“Why not Shiketsu then? If they’ve got the same setup?!” “Except they’d probably react the same way over there…”
“To be frank until our world went to hell…I never really realized it myself. How I was like a spectator and heroes were performers on a stage. Once upon a time, the unmatched All Might showed us all how to be a hero. He was the act to follow, and everybody cheered him on! But along the way…people forgot about the heart and soul that made the man. The stage is gone now. The theater’s knocked down. With failure after failure heroes can’t be hoping for glory and riches at this point. So many of those folks we once called heroes have hung up their capes. Think about it. Those ones who’re still left, still fighting…whaddya think they’re fighting for? If we reject the ones still standing up for what’s right…what do we even got left? How’ll there be any chance in hell of going back to our old lives?! Sure, we’re all hurting here, but let’s stop and use our heads! How long…can we be spectators on the sidelines?!”
“Th…there are rumors of a guy…with multiple quirks dressed in rags. They say he’s either an agent of the villains or maybe a true hero. So tell us. Sat you get to rest here for now…will we get to go back to our old lives eventually?” A man speaks up fear clear on his face and desperation.
“Everyone is in this together with me so,” Midoriya looks at everyone determination clear on his face, “Yes. We’ll bring it all back.”
The door to the barrier opens and Ectoplasm steps out to Hawks, Endeavor, and Todoroki. “Did you happen to hear…Uravity’s speech? Come in and see for yourselves. All is well. At least for the time being.” The three enter seeing the aftermath of the speech.
“In the end, all we did…was cause more pain for Deku. No real progress…just a roundabout way of getting to this point.” Endeavor says a hat and jacket covering his hero costume.
“No progress?” Hawks says, “I disagree. We’re seeing it here. One For All…is a network of power that links people’s hearts. It tied All Might to Midoriya. Then class A kept Midoriya in the game. And Uravity linked these people to Midoriya. If everyone…if ALL of us are even a little bit capable of seeing each other as united as ONE, then... I see a future where heroes have time to kill. One so bright we can’t help but grin.” Looking forward to Midoriya being welcomed back into U.A. civilians covering them with umbrellas giving their thanks.
Standing in Cementoss’ hand Nezu holds a device in his hand, “This was beyond my power…but..your class achieved it. Aizawa.”
Resting in a hospital room Aizawa smiles, “Be sure to tell my class president ‘Job well done’ for me.”
The rain is heavy on you all and you and Mirio draw closer Eri tugs on Midoriya’s free hand and he looks down but she points forward and he sees Mirio who gives a small smile going over to Eri before he meets your eyes. Your eyes were tired dark circles under your eyes as you look at him a small smile quirked on your face and you could feel the piece of paper resting in your pocket burning hot. He goes to pull away from his classmates and mother but you shake your head.
‘Not now…later.’ You mouthed and he hesitates before letting himself get pulled away as you stay behind in the rain the water covers your face hiding the tears that track down your face. You don’t know who the hell to thank…but thank you for bringing him back to you.
Izuku Midoriya was home.

Gordon the Big Engine [NWR AU]
Tumblr media
Yeah, I'm not quite ready for Henry yet.
History
Gordon was built in 1922 as the prototype for the Great Northern Railway's A1 Pacifics. The tests proved less than satisfactory for the GNR's needs, and thus he was sold to the North Western Railway to work the Wild Nor' Wester express. He was repainted into North Western Railway blue upon his arrival and given the number 4. He was stabled at Vicarstown sheds, where he'd often butt heads with the other engines due to his arrogance. During Henry's periods of illness, Gordon would take the Flying Kipper service, gaining much of his grumpy attitude from sleep deprivation.
During the Second World War, Gordon worked fast freights, troop trains and evacuee trains, his speed and power making him a valuable asset. This all came to a very abrupt stop in 1942 when he fractured his central cylinder outside of Wellsworth. In no position to lose one of his main fleet, Sir Topham Hatt sent him to Derby Works where he was fitted with a pair of larger Stanier-designed cylinders to replace his trio of Gresley ones. To fit these, however, they had to raise his running board at the front, forever altering his appearance. Seemingly unfazed by this, Gordon returned to service in 1943 and continued to work just as hard if not harder than before, being reallocated to Tidmouth in 1945.
In 1949, British Railways offered to rebuild Gordon above the frames to the specifications of an A3. Sir Topham Hatt accepted and Gordon made the trek to Doncaster light engine and under his own steam. When he returned to traffic a few months later, his driver remarked that the increase in his engine's power output was so great that he felt he was an entirely different engine. This was demonstrated in early 1950, when Gordon slipped violently outside of Tidmouth Station, bending his eccentric rods and melting the bearings on his return cranks. He was sent to Crovan's Gate Works, where the engineers spent a long while tinkering. When he was returned to traffic in 1951, he had finally been fixed for good. He went on to run the express as usual, joined by Bronzino and Velocity in 1963, Blenheim in 1965 and Larkspur in 1980.
In 2011, the loco-hauled leg of the Wild Nor' Wester express train was axed for good with Gordon and Edith double-heading the train. Since then, Gordon has been assigned to regular fast passenger trains and railtours.
Personality
Gordon's colourful personality needs no introduction, being arrogant, grumpy, snooty, aloof and boastful. Though he has calmed down in recent years, he's still very much the same Gordon he was in 1922. He has a close relationship with Henry and James, the three often being inseparable at the sheds. He also has quite a strong bond with Velocity, Bronzino and Larkspur, all 3 having been ECML staples at some point. All in all, Gordon may be grumpy, irritable and obnoxious at times, but is a trustworthy and formidable ally to have.
Thank you very much for reading, I hope to see you in the next one.
Cheerio!

I decided to create Lucy Pevensie from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. I went with a practical early 1940s look for Lucy as an evacuee of the London Blitz, where she and her siblings are sent to a country estate.

I have lived in the Northwest Territories since 1994. I have NEVER, NEVER seen things this bad.
We are actively in a crisis, here. Last night, Fort Smith was evacuated to Hay River. Now, Hay River and the area - including the evacuees - are being evacuated south. Just 'go south' at this stage. Hay River and the Katlodeeche First Nation were evacuated to Yellowknife earlier this year, for weeks, and now they are going again, with Fort Smith evacuees, and it isn't safe on the highway to go north to Yellowknife this time. Jean Marie River also got an evacuation order today and that wasn't even on the alert radar yesterday.
I think the fires are about 35 km away from here. Way up north, Inuvik in on evacuation alert, with fires less than 15 km from them. The smoke was clear here earlier today for a brief respite, but it's back now. I miss fresh air. We haven't had a lot of it since June.
We need rain. Think rain thoughts and send them in our direction. This is depressing and exhausting for everyone, and more so for the folks who've had to flee their homes.
Stay safe out there, friends.

U.S. Evacuation from Afghanistan, 2021.
This map is intended to show the movement of Afghan evacuees across the globe in the immediate aftermath of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Destination Countries refer to countries that accepted any number of Afghan evacuees, and in which evacuees physically arrived in 2021. Data was compiled from numerous sources to generate a map that is illustrative but not necessarily definitive. Every effort has been made to obtain accurate information.

I also have to disagree with your common take on the huntsman academies as fully flawed. Huntsman allow for a high concentration of combat prowess and flexibility, at a nominally lower cost of manpower, resources, and overall risk. The alternative is large standing armies, which require a far higher amount of manpower, weapons, and risk. The upside of armies is a wider spread of power, but it is at greater risk of defeat in detail. This is what lead to the city state layout we see in rwby. I see the implementation of huntsman was to encourage and support expansion. Local militia have no hope of countering the more distinct Grimm threats.
i’ve briefly summarized my logistical reasoning on this topic a few times before, but here we go:
#1: population
grimm are the dominant form of life on remnant and their presence is the single most significant restriction on the habitability of any given territory, hence the scarcity of major population centers. a generous estimate puts the total number of urban areas in the world at around ten; this requires assuming that patch has town of significant size somewhere on the basis of it being able to support a primary combat school, although this does not align with its portrayal in the show and its geographic proximity to vale make it plausible for the student body to be largely commuters; discounting patch, there are nine urban areas in the world: atlas, mantle, mistral, argus, kuchinashi, kuo kuana, vacuo, coquina, and vale.
i say urban areas rather than cities because it is unlikely that all of these settlements are of a size that we would think of as a city in the real world: the total global population is counted in millions and the entire population of two major cities (atlas + mantle) numbers in the thousands and is successfully evacuated, by magical means but on foot, within what seems to be less than twenty minutes(!).
but as per usual animation is a medium that i find annoyingly vague so we are going to do math now 💜
to calculate the total combined population of atlas and mantle we are first going to make some necessary assumptions:
1 - some amount of time is skipped before cinder enters the portal space. (necessary for reasons discussed shortly.)
2 - the layout of the portal structure is perfectly numerically regular (this is necessary because the organic shapes of the paths and the camera work makes it impossible to count the portals with acceptable accuracy.)
3 - the apparent number of entrances inside the portal space is equal to the actual number of gateways physically present in the cities.
4 - nobody flees backwards when cinder attacks and people still in the cities continue to enter the portals at a steady pace throughout the fight until both cities are fully evacuated. (this is unrealistic—crowds are not this rational, many people would instinctively bolt for the nearest exit, and queues of evacuees entering the portal would be pushed back and start to panic. but it makes the math cleaner to pretend otherwise and we can just treat our answer as a high ceiling.)
5 - the actual evacuation is far larger and more orderly than it appears to be due to the logistical difficulty involved in animating masses of people.
first we need to figure out how long it takes to get every evacuee into the portal space. evacuees begin to enter the portal space around the 3:30 mark in 8.13 and continue, excluding 5:15-10:45 (flashback), until scene cuts away at 13:45. at this point we get a glimpse of about a dozen people running for a portal in the streets of mantle; the dense, orderly evacuation from the mantle crater and atlas subways is over by this point and only the stragglers who stuck it out in their homes remain, so we’ll say the large, high-efficiency guided evacuation got everyone through the portals in (rounding up a tad here) about five minutes and stragglers continued to pour in at about a sixth* of the rate for the remainder of the evacuation. scenes inside the portal with refugees visible entering in the background resume at 2:45-3:45, 4:45-5:45, and 7:05 in 8.14; by around 8:30 there are no longer people running down the paths, making the straggler phase about three and a half minutes and the entire evacuation less than ten minutes long. because this is a hilariously nonsensical amount of time to coordinate an evacuation with a few hundred people, let alone thousands, we’ll say that the guided evacuation took a while, maybe half an hour or so to get organized and had been properly ongoing for about five minutes before cinder interrupted, for a total of ten minutes for the main and thirteen and a half minutes of stragglers.
*an amount i’m coming to by way of the guided evacuation bringing people through in groups of as many across as will comfortably fit—about eight—versus the stragglers coming through one or two at a time. the guided evacuation as shown is NOT this efficient, but see assumption #5.
next, we’ll presume that 75% of the portals were concentrated in the crater and the atlas subway to accommodate the very high volume of people sheltering there and the remaining 25% distributed evenly across both cities to cast the widest possible net for stragglers. the portals in the dedicated evacuation zones are utilized with maximum efficiency, let’s say eight people (walking abreast) per portal every two seconds for 10 minutes; the straggler portals admit two people every three seconds for 18.5 minutes.
the last thing we need is the number of portals. assuming the portal structure is numerically regular makes this pretty simple: the exit platform sits at the nexus of twelve major arteries, each artery splits into three branches, and each branch ends in a node with three entrances. there are 108 portals in total; 81 lead to evacuation zones, 27 are for stragglers.
so, using these estimates: the kids and the happy huntresses are able to evacuate 2,400 people per portal, 194,400 total within 10 minutes of sending the first rows through, meanwhile about 14,580 people evacuate themselves (540 per portal) in the 13.5 minutes after the word spreads enough to get people moving steadily toward the straggler portals. this gives us a high ceiling for the combined population of the two cities of about 209,000 rounded to the nearest thousand. if you want to leave out the ‘bonus time’ we added to be generous, that figure drops to roughly 106,000. i think the two hundred thousand figure fits pretty well with the small geographic footprint and high density of the two cities and the more conservative hundred thousand feels like a reasonable floor for the same; as a matter of personal taste i would chop about 15% off the ceiling to account for inefficiencies and call it 182,000 or so. i don’t think you can reasonably go much higher than two hundred thousand, because the evacuation is on a *very* tight schedule as the city falls and already winding down when cinder attacks; that the steady trickles of stragglers in the background of the fight slowly thin out and then stop with plenty of time to spare demonstrates that the evacuation is completed successfully. it’s possible that some people refused to leave (this is a common difficulty in real evacuations) but this would have been a very small minority given the immediate direness of the situation; and since the free cities almost certainly survived (salem approaches atlas from the west—note position of the sunrise upon her arrival—and the free cities are all well east of atlas) i’d imagine those who had the means to do so fled as soon as the grimm were gone, although this assumes ironwood wouldn’t also shoot down the personal vehicles of atlesian citizens if they tried to leave. there’s just not a lot of logistical wiggle room for more people. so, atlas and mantle together had a population somewhere in the range of one to two hundred thousand people.
in real world terms that is pretty small. there are 80+ cities in the world with more than five million people living in them. a municipality with a population of one hundred or even two hundred thousand is not significant at all—but on remnant atlas and mantle together represent one of the four largest population centers in the world, and atlas is a sovereign city-state and a notable economic and military power on the global stage. vale and mistral might be more populous because they’re much older and more environmentally hospitable, but both of them are considerably less dense than mantle and mistral in particular doesn’t seem to have a footprint much larger than mantle does, so they’re probably within the same order of magnitude: three to five hundred people, maybe. kuchinashi and argus are likely on the lower end of our estimates for mantle and atlas or a bit smaller. kuo kuana rather sprawls but is not urbanized at all, although it does have (both visually and in the sense that the characters comment on it) a markedly higher population density than is normal for remnant; it might be up there with vale mistral. vacuo is small but cramped and coquina seems to be a modest town moreso than a city.
i could see an argument for vale breaking the threshold of one million people—i think it’s a stretch, but the city has by far the largest geographic footprint, most of it seems to be moderately urbanized with a very dense urban center, and the population was large enough to support a heavily urbanized client city prior to mountain glenn’s decimation. but half a million or so seems more reasonable to me, in scale with the other major cities.
anyway, the point i’m coming to is this: the global population is in millions. i tend to think somewhere in the four to nine million range but not five, because if it were two or three or five million i feel it’s more natural in english to say two million or three million or five million vs millions? YMMV. 10+ million seems implausible based on the size of the major cities. we’ll go with four for the purpose of this discussion, to be conservative. so, four million people live on the planet. lets say, highballing a bit, that:
- vale’s population is 500,000
- mistral’s is 300,000
- kuo kuana’s is 250,000
- atlas/mantle, argus, and kuchinachi’s are 200,000
- vacuo’s is 100,000
- and coquina’s is 50,000.
in total, that gives us about 1.5M people living within the four kingdoms and 1.8M altogether living in the four kingdoms plus menagerie.
do you see where i’m going with this?
if the world’s population is multiple millions, and if the approximate math on atlas/mantle’s evacuation checks out congruously with the cities as depicted and with cinder pegging the population as “thousands”—which it does—and if we eyeball the population figures for the other major cities based on their visual characteristics as they compare to atlas/mantle, and if we interpret the “millions” figure given in 7.13 to mean any number greater than three, we are mathematically forced to conclude that the MAJORITY of remnant’s population live outside the five unitary states, in small independent settlements or as nomads.
now up until about, oh, two months ago i would have said here that this back of napkin stuff is way too granular to base analysis off of (although it IS fun for fanfic purposes) because the intention does seem to be a lot of desolate wilderness beyond the fortified walls of the major population centers—
and then arrowfell dropped the bomb (TO ME. no one else cares about this but it is a bomb TO ME) that there are free cities on solitas. SOLITAS! the inhospitable frozen wasteland of the polar north has multiple independent settlements scattered across the plains east of the mountains and thriving with negligible economic reliance on atlas, although essen does presumably import grain from argus given the otherwise inexplicable presence of a windmill. the oodles of nomadic desert people in the CFVY novels were one thing—if there’s a desert in a fantasy story there will be nomads living in it, it’s not unexpected for there to be nomads in vacuo—but there are VILLAGES on the SOLITAN ICE SHEETS.
—so i am no longer taking it as a given that the apparent majority of the world’s population living outside of the kingdoms is a side effect of the writing team not being me-levels of unhinged about this sort of thing. you don’t put a constellation of functional little independent polities in one of the harshest environment on the planet if you don’t intend to convey that people live in a hell of a lot more places than the minuscule number of unitary states might otherwise suggest, and in light of arrowfell, the village blacksmith in 4.1 who shrugs at the collapse of the CCTS network and the mayor who treats the weeks-long harassment of a powerful grimm like a troublesome irritant feel rather more salient than they did before. irrespective of whether it is meant to be a majority, a significant portion of the millions of people living on remnant live in the nominal “wilderness” outside the major population centers.
#2: the scope of the grimm threat
now the reason i’m being so particular about the distribution of remnant’s population is this: the huntsmen are an institution of the four kingdoms. individual huntsmen certainly can and do take contracts beyond the jurisdiction of the four kingdoms, but for people living in remote areas there is the obvious logistical problem that 1. huntsmen contracts are handled entirely through digital job boards within the CCTS network, and 2. CCTS coverage outside of the kingdoms is canonically poor even before beacon tower falls. unreliable network access means unreliable access to the huntsmen institution, resulting in situations like the one shown in 4.1: small villages weathering multiple attacks by grimm for weeks without hiring a huntsman to deal with the problem because they don’t have the means to post a contract to the CCTS network. the fall of beacon makes this problem worse, but the village in 4.1 (which isn’t even remote, it’s a few days travel on foot from a large town) is stated to have had minimal reception even before beacon tower went down. there are also regions like the vacuan desert, where harsh weather causes frequent, unpredictable network blackouts.
outside the kingdoms, larger towns (like shion) might contract one or two huntsmen on a permanent basis, and settlers like the brunswicks can bring hired huntsmen with them when they leave the urban center. but even a town as large as kuroyuri did not have a resident huntsman (li ren was a hunter, like of animals) and the norm for small settlements seems to be that they mostly deal with grimm by themselves, huntsmen being available only when they happen to pass through.
now, bearing that in mind: small and remote settlements actually seem to fare pretty well against the grimm under normal circumstances. in 5.5 oscar, a fourteen year old farm boy with no prior combat training, rather dismissively says he’s dealt “the occasional small grimm” as a way of illustrating his lack of combat experience. in the rural parts of the world, it’s SO ORDINARY for a young teenager to have killed a grimm here and there that it’s not culturally perceived as really “fighting.” the mayor in 4.1 is similarly casual about his village fending off the persistent harassment of a dangerous grimm for “weeks” before RNJR came along. and in arrowfell, when a megoliath attacks essen village, the villagers stay calm and keep their distance from it… and it just kind of mills around in the deserted area instead of going on a rampage. like the villagers in 4.1, the people of essen are cognizant of the possibility that they might need to evacuate if the situation escalates, but they don’t panic. they don’t even treat the presence of an enormous grimm in the village center like an emergency.
and that’s a little strange, isn’t it? everything we’re told about life outside the kingdoms, filtered through the perspectives of huntsmen characters, would suggest that small villages are the MOST vulnerable to the grimm—but what we’re *shown* is that villagers have a cautious but fairly casual outlook on the grimm, and surviving an “attack” by grimm too large to beat might even be as simple as calmly retreating from the immediate area to monitor the situation until the grimm goes away. at minimum, it is clear that calmly, slowly putting distance between yourself and a grimm is a relatively effective way to escape. the lack of martial power in small villages doesn’t seem to make these settlements more vulnerable so much as it fosters a very different attitude towards grimm and a very different survival strategy than that of the urban areas.
what IS extremely dangerous—and this has been demonstrated over and over again—is onslaught by very large numbers of grimm. that is something even the fortified, well-defended cities struggle deal with; the city of mountain glenn was overwhelmed and collapsed so catastrophically that vale sealed it off and left the survivors to their fate, vale is completely overrun during the battle of beacon and has to be slowly reclaimed over a period of days/weeks, and whole sectors of mantle become uninhabitable after grimm invade the city en masse and ironwood withdraws his forces. lone grimm, even packs of grimm, don’t wipe out established settlements. hordes do.
so.
here’s where this gets interesting.
why do grimm hordes happen?
1 - mountain glenn: merlot industries deliberately lured grimm to the city in steadily increasing numbers until the perimeter defenses failed and the populace retreated underground; the final disaster occurred when an explosion (implied by grimm eclipse to have been deliberate sabotage orchestrated by merlot) breached a subterranean nest of grimm, who flooded into the city.
2 - vale: cinder coordinated multiple terroristic attacks and orchestrated the brutal murder of a child during an internationally televised sporting event, then capped it off with a speech blaming it all on the governments of the four kingdoms. the resulting mass hysteria drew grimm to the city like moths to flame, overwhelming the perimeter defenses.
3 - mantle: after months of escalating social unrest, political assassinations, and a shocking election disappointment, watts turned off the heat in mantle. the resulting mass hysteria drew grimm to the city like moths to flame and the already-crumbling, long-neglected perimeter defenses made it impossible to push the grimm back again as vale did.
4 - atlas: salem brought a literal army of grimm to lay siege to atlas and then sacked the city.
5 - shion: the branwen bandits sacked the town and ran; grimm followed and picked off the panicking survivors. note the state of the town itself (scorched buildings, smoldering ruins) suggest that most of the destruction is the result of the raiders setting the town ablaze and it is unclear how much was even left when the grimm arrived.
4 - oniyuri and kuroyuri: an extremely old, strong, and intelligent grimm attacked, and the resulting mass hysteria drew other grimm en masse. (the nuckelavee keeps trophies from its victims in its den; it appears to be both sapient and actively malicious.)
5 - the unnamed village in ruby’s V4 character short: not stated outright, but the fact that it is on fire, deserted, and most likely located within branwen territory point towards it having been raided.
7 - gossan, feldspar, and other small settlements destroyed during the events of “after the fall”: a teenage boy with a semblance he can’t fully control causes cyclical bursts of mass hysteria, which lure the grimm; this gets slowly more severe as the people come to believe that they’re cursed.
8 - crossed (destroyed) and dormir (evacuated): thornmane and his co-conspirator plant artificial grimm bait in and around the free cities and in mantle and atlas, which pull frenzied grimm into the area after activation and lead to unusually high grimm activity in the region until they’re discovered and destroyed.
10 - vacuo: the crown stages a coup and marches an army on shade academy; in this case the grimm actually end up helping the situation, because the attacking force has augmented auras and the grimm target them to the exclusion of everyone else and are fairly easily driven back when the delicious glowing snacks are gone.
11 - brunswick farms: bartleby purposefully lured the apathy into the tunnels underneath the farm and then bricked up the wall to trap them there without telling anybody, because he wanted to cut costs by firing the huntsman he had on contract.
12 - an unknown number of settlements destroyed during the great war: A GLOBAL WAR RAGED ACROSS THE SANITE COUNTRYSIDE FOR TEN YEARS between sacking of forts and farms by warring forces, the likelihood of desperate displaced people resorting to banditry to survive, and grimm swarming from battlefield to battlefield one has to wonder if there were any small towns left in the contested territories by the time the war ended.
13 - kuchinashi and outlying communities: two criminal organizations start a vicious gang war over a magic amulet that gives its wearer the power to command any and all grimm in the immediate vicinity. grimm under the command of the amulet and grimm drawn in by the chaos of the gang war wreak havoc on the surrounding countryside.
see the pattern here? there are exceptions, but the huge majority of grimm hordes form as a direct consequence of mass violence or sabotage committed by people. war, banditry, terroristic attacks, state violence, persecution—these are the causal forces behind grimm hordes. it’s just not something grimm do on their own.
[sidebar: if the huntsmen were intended to support settlement and expansion after the great war they failed catastrophically: mountain glenn was one of two major expansion attempts originating from the four kingdoms after the war, and its collapse is widely known as vale’s greatest failure; meanwhile atlas originated as a remarkably successful expansion of mantle, slowly mutated into a fascist stratocracy, and then collapsed within a few decades of ozpin & co. deciding to elevate it as a symbol of the prosperity and peace brought about by the post-war order. meanwhile the faunus fought a war to earn civil rights in the kingdoms, got shoved onto a small and mostly-inhospitable island and told to shut up, and built kuo kuana into a city-state comparable in size to the four kingdoms, which—well, let’s talk about kuo kuana!]
kuo kuana has neither a huntsman academy nor a combat school. menagerie does not participate in the huntsmen institution nor keep a standing military, and does not appear to even rely on a perimeter wall to keep the grimm out. in 5.10 the chieftan’s house is burned down by a cultish extremist sect of a civil organization in a shocking public spectacle and there is not so much as a peep from the grimm. if this incident did trigger a grimm horde and it was successfully stopped at the perimeter, then menagerie’s grimm management strategy is unequivocally the most effective in the world, far better than the militarized approach taken by the four kingdoms. if this incident did not trigger a grimm horde, it is almost certainly because the residents of kuo kuana did not panic and banded together as a community to tackle the problem head-on, and that suggests that the small village strategy for dealing with grimm by coexisting with them is more effective than the militarized huntsman system, even at national scale.
either way i don’t know how to interpret the conspicuous absence of grimm problems in menagerie other than by concluding that fortifications, soldiers, and a specialized warrior class are not the only or best way to handle the grimm threat. and with the extensive evidence that hordes form mostly in response to mass violence or exploitation, the only logical conclusion is that the single most effective way to mitigate the existential threat of the grimm is to deal with the societal problems that foster bigotry, crime, and extremism—and conversely that a system that allows systemic injustices to remain entrenched is inherently counterproductive to the goal of keeping people safe from the grimm.
you don’t, in short, need a large standing army or even a local militia to keep the grimm at bay if you build a society that is functional, equitable, and peaceful.
#3: the huntsmen system
but high-level structural approaches aside, the four kingdoms are not equitable or peaceful societies and in the case of atlas/mantle and vacuo they cannot even truly be called functional, hence the need for warriors to fend off the grimm. even within this context, the huntsmen system is rife with inefficiencies and logistical problems.
number one: there are a lot of grimm, perhaps one and a half million people within the kingdoms alone, and about… oh, one or two thousand active huntsmen in the entire world. yes it’s math time again:
“after the fall” (which, being a novel, is not limited by the constraints of animation vis-a-vis crowd size) confirms the size of a class at beacon to be forty students in total (twenty tokens to initiate ten teams of four). this matches the numbers shown during the initiation in volume one, so we can assume it’s consistent from year to year. beacon is a four-year academy; if it admits new students once per year like a real university, its total student body is 160.
it is unlikely that the other three academies are of significantly different size, except haven, because mistral encompasses three major population centers (argus, mistral city, and kuchinashi) together exceeding vale in population. so we’ll say that haven is double the size of beacon while shade and atlas are of comparable size. if we assume that every single student who enrolls at an academy survives, passes the licensing exam, and becomes a professional huntsman or huntress after graduating, then a total of two hundred new academy-trained huntsmen are licensed each year. now, it’s possible to take the exam without attending an academy, so we’ll add another fifty to represent people who trained privately and were able to pass the exam, for a total of 250 new huntsmen becoming active each year.
being a huntsman is a dangerous, difficult job. we have yet to meet an active huntsman or huntress older than maybe forty; the ones older than that are retired, working as teachers, or dead. also, at least three dozen huntsmen in mistral died or vanished during missions over a period of about 10 weeks without raising any red flags—lionheart does not seem to be under scrutiny by the council or anything like that, so while these casualty rates are definitely higher than normal, they’re probably not higher than can be accounted for by an uptick in grimm activity after the fall of beacon.
based on this, we’ll say the average career of a huntsman from being licensed at 21 to retirement is about twenty years. during the ten week period of assassinations in mistral, salem’s agents kill 3-4 huntsmen per week, which is higher than normal but not extremely so, so we’ll lump career-ending injuries in with deaths and treat three casualties per week as the global average, abnormal in a small region but within the range of what might be expected as a cluster of bad luck based on how often huntsmen die or retire early due to disability worldwide. that means we lose about 156 huntsmen every year, and the profession has a net annual gain of 94. with an average career length of twenty years, total number of huntsmen in the world should fluctuate a bit but hover somewhere around 1,900; and this is with the optimistic assumption that no students ever die or drop out or fail the licensing exam, which we know is not actually the case.
even without accounting for corruption within the profession and the reality that many huntsmen engage in criminal activities and may have their licenses revoked for such, this system mathematically does not work. there are not enough huntsmen to put a meaningful dent in the grimm population. there are not enough huntsmen to effectively secure even just the major cities of the four kingdoms, let alone outlying communities responsible for vitally necessary agricultural and industrial production (which reasonably should be the first priority, so it is a problem in and of itself that most huntsmen aren’t spending their times defending farms, fishing boats, mills, and mines), LET ALONE the other 2+ million people who don’t live in the four kingdoms. even if we get patently absurd and pretend that NO huntsmen die and ALL 250 new huntsmen licensed per year serve exactly twenty years before retirement, we get a total of five thousand active huntsmen in the entire world.
that is not enough.
number two: once licensed, huntsmen exist above the law with virtually no regulatory oversight.
huntsmen can have their licenses suspended for egregious criminality or reckless incompetence (this is the backstory of an NPC in the grimm campaign and happens to the two huntsmen who smash up a bank in vale in “roman holiday”) but many huntsmen engage in corrupt or outright criminal activities without consequence. criminal huntsmen are the main antagonists of arrowfell and the CFVY novels and appear as major and minor foes throughout the grimm campaign, dee and dudley solicit bribes from passengers with the implied threat that they won’t protect people who don’t pay them with zero consequences besides being told to knock it off by qrow, and while raven‘s license has presumably been suspended she is also proof that suspension of a license amounts to little more than an ineffective slap on the wrist. also, the huntsmen in roman holiday are suspended by the vale huntsmen guild—so the regulatory authority here is other huntsmen, which makes even this nominal level of oversight vulnerable to institutional corruption.
all of this is by design, because ozma feared that making huntsmen subordinate to national governments would foster division and conflict and his solution was to make the elite warrior class “free to choose who they work for, as well as what kind of work they will do, through the use of mission boards” i.e. they are autonomous mercenaries with the authority to act as law enforcement within the kingdoms.
beyond the obvious and frequent corruption of the huntsmen themselves, it is shown that the nearly absolute freedom and privileges afforded to huntsmen has led to huntsmen having a reputation as people who can go anywhere and do whatever they want. the profession attracts both people with noble intentions and people who covet the social and political power wielded by huntsmen—the bertilak celadons and bram thornmanes of the world.
and in atlas, where students of atlas academy are subject to intense military indoctrination, militarized huntsmen (the ace-ops) effectively serve as “attack dogs” on behalf of the increasingly fascist state.
number three: even among huntsmen who do truly believe in and strive to live up to the ideal of what huntsmen are supposed to be, the system used to distribute huntsmen services is both inefficient and inequitable.
huntsmen are, as noted, government-sanctioned mercenaries. it’s a job. they need money to live, they reasonably cannot offer their services for free even if they wanted to.
people in need of huntsmen post contracts to a digital job board, and huntsmen claim these as they please. informal and illicit arrangements can obviously be made by other means but the only official channel through which a huntsman’s services can be acquired is the job board.
what this means in practice is that the huntsmen institution serves the needs of people and organizations who can afford to pay well for very dangerous work and who have, as discussed, reliable access to the CCTS network. if you do not have money, the huntsmen are not for you. if you live somewhere with poor or inconsistent reception, the huntsmen are not for you. if you desperately need help but the contract you posted four weeks ago doesn’t look interesting to any of the few dozen huntsmen active in your area and it’s just been languishing there unanswered, the huntsmen are not for you. if you live in a densely populated region and there are thousands of open contracts on the board and only a hundred huntsmen, the huntsmen are probably not going to be for you for months if they get to you at all. if a huntsman takes your contract and then decides you’re a bad client and tells all their colleagues never to take a contract from you because you complained when they dumped the contents of your entire cargo hold into the sea, the huntsmen are not for you.
the only way to make this system even remotely functional and fair in its stated purpose of protecting everybody from the grimm would be to operate it as a government agency, assign huntsmen to every region proportionally to the population and average grimm activity, and fund it with taxes and make it free to the public. but even that can only work if you have a lot more huntsmen—and assuming the tiny size of the academies isn’t simply a matter of intense exclusivity*, it’s probable that there just aren’t enough willing and able people to establish a warrior class much larger than the couple thousand that exists in reality.
[*which is possible, because the actual point of the institution is for the huntsmen academies to act as impenetrable fortresses in which to secure the relics, and a smaller, tightly-knit student body is easier to mold for this purpose.]
#4: what’s the alternative?
besides the obvious answer of modeling the four kingdoms’ grimm management strategy on whatever kuo kuana is doing because it clearly works better?
large standing armies are indeed a far worse solution than the huntsmen: more cumbersome, more expensive, more resource-intensive, and as demonstrated by the test of the atlesian military against salem’s grimm in volume eight, markedly less effective at actually killing grimm than your average huntsman, because the grimm cannot be countered well by the standard toolkit of an infantry unit and bombing doesn’t accomplish much more than thinning them out. also, deploying armies to fight roaming monsters is a logistical nightmare i don’t even want to think about.
no, if the social conditions required to adopt a low-conflict management strategy are not present i think the most viable option is robust self-defense training as a mandatory component of public education. releasing a person’s aura is as simple as having an experienced practitioner guide them in a meditative exercise and you can kill the average grimm by stabbing it with a pitchfork. there is absolutely no reason not to teach the general public how to protect themselves if they encounter a grimm. keep the huntsman around to deal with unusual threats or situations that require professional expertise—but for god’s sake reform them into a government agency with strong oversight and set up legal and material protections for civilians harmed by corrupt abuses of power—and invest in making sure that crossing paths with a grimm or two is not an automatic death sentence for the average civilian, make legal provisions for everyone to carry arms within reason (historical regulations restricting the size of swords that could be worn within the walls of a city are sort of a fun concept to play with here, for fanfic purposes), and don’t criminalize self-defense against the grimm holy fuck.
i grew up in bear country. i know how to minimize the possibility of encountering a bear in the wilderness and what to do to maximize my chance of surviving in the event that i am attacked by one, and also i have taken classes in gun safety even though i have never and will never own a gun, because gun safety was a mandatory part of the public school curriculum. everyone on remnant lives in grimm country; everyone on remnant should know how to keep themselves safe from the grimm, and the answer should not be “hope a huntsman is close enough to hear you scream and get there before you’re dead.”
not everyone can be a huntsman. MOST PEOPLE cannot reach the physical peak the huntsmen are expected to maintain. but everyone has aura and presumably most people could learn basic defensive techniques if they were trained to do so, and most people can learn to swing a sword or shoot a gun and be a responsible weapons-owner, and everyone can learn how to cope with fear and distress, everyone can be taught emotional techniques for staying calm during a crisis situation, and everyone can drill emergency responses like “quickly and safely vacate the park if a grimm crawls out of the river” to reduce the kind of mass hysteria that triggers grimm swarming behavior.
also grimm studies is canonically pseudoscience but any grimm management strategy worth its salt really ought to be committed to intensive scientific study of the grimm to figure out 1. why they prey on people, what physiological need drives them to do that, 2. if anything can be done to address this need in a way that eliminates the necessity of violence between people and grimm, and if not, 3. develop better understandings of how grimm work so that existing strategies for dealing with them can be made better.

As numerous evacuees get away from the wildfires in the northern and central Yukon and arrive in the territory’s capital, governments, organizations and individuals are stepping up to help them.
Emergency coordination centre information officer Diana Dryburgh said Whitehorse’s Canada Games Centre is set up with sleeping facilities but as of Aug. 10, it was not in use as all the evacuees were staying at Normandy Living or at a Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) building, with friends and family or at hotels.
KDFN communications manager Dylan MacNeil said sleeping space has been set up at the First Nation’s multipurpose building.
Along with accommodations KDFN is keeping its Nàkwät’à Kų̀ potlatch house open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily offering food, refreshments, counselling and other services there. A sacred fire will be kept burning at the potlatch house. [...]

Unlike shoto and deku lida was the only one who didn't get stain's recognition so, I'm sure lida will be the one who would convince stain to join the hero side despite the fact that stain was the one who almost killed his brother.
It’s definitely IIida’s turn to get recognition as true hero. I’m not sure though Stain will need convincing. He’s already seemed to be on the hero side by giving intel to All Might. So I think he may be more like Nagant and Gentle / La Brava - offering to help and it will be up to the boys to believe him and accept his help.
Currently, my hunch is that it will be a choice between going to Gunga after Dabi or help the evacuees (among them the Todo-family) who we saw getting stuck on their way from UA to Shiketsu. It was also mentioned again that the Shiketsu students left their posts (they were s’assigner to wait for the refugees).
So I guess it will be a matter of choice between pursuing personal objectives (Touya) or saving the evacuees
We know that Iida has taken this to heart -?-!: he’s going to be the one to make Stain acknowledge that people can change.

It's my plan
Summary: Loki accepts that he won't be around for you and your baby when Thanos attacks
A/N: I hope you enjoy this, I really thought it would be a good bit to write. I promise you, the ending is worth waiting for.
Warnings- Loki's death, self-sacrifice, death, fluff and more angst the end
Tumblr media
Loki sprinted through the ship, hurrying to get to his room that you were staying in with him. You were the only one that Loki thought about when he saw the Sanctuary come into view when he was with Thor. He didn't even explain to Thor why he was so terrified, his only motive was you.
Slamming the door open to his room, he ran inside and froze when he saw you staring at him with fear in your eyes, cradling your baby close to your chest. Sighing in relief when you saw that it was only Loki, you walked over to him and smiled, handing him little Roselle.
"You scared me! I thought it was Korg coming to try and mentor me on being a better mother!" you joked but the joke didn't last long when you saw how terrified your husband was, "Loki? What's wrong, my love?"
Loki took heaving breaths, wrapping Roselle in many bundles to keep her warm as he herded you out of the bedroom and below deck to the escape pods, "you need to get out of here! He's here!"
The colour in your face disappeared as you stared at him and then you sputtered as he handed Roselle back to you and inputted the passwords to access the pods, "you have to go. You have to, I have to save you."
"No, I'm not leaving if you're not, Loki!" you shouted, the panic alarms blaring now and Roselle awoke and started crying from the noise of them, "I'm not leaving if you are staying."
Loki's heart stopped at that and tears brimmed in his eyes, "it's not just you anymore, darling! We have to protect Roselle! You have to go! Please!"
You shook your head and cradled the baby close to your chest, "I will take our chances, Loki! You're my husband, you are my rock, I will not leave you!"
"Don't you understand?! I'm going to die, Sweetheart!" Loki yelled, his magic keeping the evacuees out of the pod station for a while, "please get in the pod! Please!!"
You looked between him and the pods, nodding gently as you took a step and cupped his cheek gently, pressing your lips to his in a gentle kiss that spoke so many words. So many goodbyes. You wouldn't believe it until you saw it. Pulling away, you opened the door to the pod and got inside, settling Roselle as Loki smiled gratefully at you and then the hold on the door disappeared just as he did with a green light.
Loki stood in the main part of the ship that used to be considered its 'throne room' and saw all of the dead Asgardians, their faces forever plastered with horror and the death of others. One Asgardian female was clutching her dead baby in her cold arms and Loki almost gagged at the thought that that could easily have been you and Roselle.
Loki's head snapped to where Ebony Maw was standing over the people of Asgard, his hands clasped together and Loki remembered those hands digging into his mind and ripping it apart and turning it into a weapon, "Hear me, and rejoice. You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Titan. You may think this is suffering. No…It is salvation. Universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile…For even in death, you have become Children of Thanos."
A chill slid down Loki's spine at the speech and he conjured up a dagger in his sleeve as he tried to meet Thor's eyes but the God was beaten down and unable to look at the younger Prince.
Thanos was by the window, looking out of it at his ship, probably getting off on all of the death that he had brought to Loki's people, "I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right… yet to fail, nonetheless," the Titan spoke and Loki's fear crept up as he remembered how that voice had once been the one that he followed.
The titan then picked up Thor by the head and Loki's face turned blank, hiding behind three walls of indifference to protect himself and his brother, "It’s frightening. Turns the legs to jelly. I ask you, to what end? Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now, it’s here. Or should I say…I AM."
Thor was so beaten down and as he spat blood out of his mouth, he growled out, "you talk too much."
The Titan ignored him and looked directly at Loki, who prided himself in not reacting to the harsh glare, "the Tesseract or your brother's head. I assume you have a preference."
"Oh, I do," Loki drawled, his eyes stony as he glared up at Thanos, "kill away."
Thanos smirked and kept eye contact with the young God of Mischief as he pressed the Power Stone to Thor's temple and powered it up. Thor's screams echoed in Loki's mind and down came those walls he built up crumble, crumble, crumble.
"Alright, stop!!" Loki exclaimed, unable to take Thor's pain any longer and Thor's deep breathing of relief gave Loki some sort of happiness.
"We don't have the Tesseract, it was destroyed on Asgard," Thor spat and Loki cringed.
Dejectedly, Loki lifted up his hand and the Tesseract appeared in his palm. Sighing, Thor glared at him and growled, "you really are the worst, brother."
Loki's heart broke at that statement but he wouldn't let it show on his face. Advancing towards Thanos, Loki looked at Thor with a frown, "I assure you, brother, the sun will shine on us again."
"Your optimism is misplaced, Asgardian," Thanos smirked and Loki raised his chin with a smirk.
"Well for one thing; I'm not Asgardian. And for another? We have the Hulk," Loki dived out of the way quickly enough as the Hulk roared and hit Thanos.
Loki crawled away from the attack, dragging Thor with him as he went and he held his brother's face gently, tears building up in his eyes, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for what I am about to do, it is my plan. I love you, brother. Please find my beloved and Roselle and tell them the same."
With that, Loki got up and left just as the Bifrost activated and sent Hulk away. Fully prepared to face his death, Loki waited for a cue but an orange door appeared behind him and the person who stepped out was a complete look-alike of him. He was wearing business attire and looked bloodied up but he had that optimism that Loki lacked. Younger, Loki thought as he stared at his variant, maybe 2012?
"Don't go out there," the other Loki spoke and Loki tilted his head, "I know exactly what happens and you never get your family. You don't make it out of here alive. Let me go in your place, Loki. For Roselle, for our darling."
Loki crossed his arms and glared at the counterpart, "why would you do such a thing?"
"Loki's always lie and cheat, right? I'm sick of it. I was betrayed by another version of us that I was convinced I was in love with," the younger Loki paused and laughed at the disgusted look on Loki's face, "yeah, I know, stupid. But still... what I saw made me think that you didn't deserve it. Let me take your place."
Loki looked at where the Black Order was gathering and he nodded. Loki watched as his younger self transformed his clothes into the exact outfit Loki was wearing, conjuring up the cloak to finish up the look and he breathed unsteadily before hugging Loki, "get to Thor, please, he needs to know this is our plan."
Nodding, Loki cast a powerful invisibility spell and made his way over to Thor, kneeling beside him and holding his shoulder while whispering in his ear, "don't react. I'm alive. This is our plan, just react as if what you see if the real me."
"There are two more Stones on Earth. Find them, my children, and bring them to me on Titan," Thanos was saying to his 'Children' as Thor inclined his head slightly.
"If I might interject..." Loki's counterpart came from behind rubble, looking very bold and unafraid in the face of his death, "If you’re going to Earth, you might want a guide. I do have a bit of experience in that arena," Loki laughed and Thor's eyes widened as he realised that he was going to have to witness another one of Loki's elaborate deaths, only this time he knew it was a trick.
Thanos glared at Younger Loki with a smirk, "if you consider failure experience."
"I consider experience, experience," Younger Loki retorted boldly before taking a step forward, "almighty Thanos. I, Loki, Prince of Asgard… Odinson…" Younger Loki cast a meaningful glance to both Thor and the invisible Loki, "The rightful King of Jötunheim, God of Mischief, do hereby pledge to you, my undying fidelity."
Thor squinted and saw the dagger in Younger Loki's hand and his eyes widened as Younger Loki straightened up to strike Thanos but he was caught with the power of the Space Stone. Thanos smirked down at him, "Undying? You should choose your words more wisely."
Thanos grabbed Younger Loki by the neck and lifted him up from the ground. The real Loki watched in horror as his younger self struggled in Thanos's gauntleted hand and his whole body froze when Younger Loki whispered out, "you... will never be... a God."
Thanos glared at the Younger Loki and snapped his neck. The Original Loki flinched back at the crack of vertebrae being severed and he looked away from the sight. Thor could not look away as the Loki in Thanos's hand became still and limp. Thanos scowled and walked over to Thor, throwing Loki at his knees and smirking, "no resurrections this time."
Thanos disappeared and it seemed that Thor had temporarily forgotten about the other Loki as he crawled over to the body of Younger Loki and rested his head on his chest, embracing him and sobbing for all that he had lost as the ship exploded around them.
Loki took deep breaths as he knelt beside Younger Loki's head, closing his eyes and becoming visible again, leaning down to kiss the Younger Loki's head, "thank you, I hope you find Valhalla easily."
Loki conjured up a coffin for his younger self and used his seiðr to preserve his body before he knelt beside Thor and the three of them were wrapped in Loki's seiðr to keep them safe from the horrid freezing temperature of space.
The next thing that Loki knew was hands were on his temples and a gentle voice spoke in his mind, "wake!"
Loki sat up quickly and breathed heavily as he looked around the group that was making a semi-circle around where he was laying on the floor. Groaning and rubbing his temples, Loki weakly sat up and smiled at them, "I appreciate that, thank you. It is freezing out there in the vacuum of space."
Loki looked around what he could see of the ship and sighed softly when he saw Thor sitting on a bench with a raccoon.
"Just hold on a minute," the Midgardian in the middle spoke up as Loki was going to get to his feet, "tell us who you are first."
"Must I do that when I am on the floor? ...Fine, I am Loki, Prince of Asgard and Thor's younger brother," Loki rolled his eyes and got to his feet, walking over to Thor and embracing him.
Thor flinched slightly at the hug but when he realised it was Loki, he rested his head on his younger brother's shoulder and mumbled weakly, "thank you... for telling me this time..."
"Of course... You don't deserve to suffer again, Thor, even I know that," Loki replied and Thor chuckled weakly, "we need to get to Earth."
Thor shook his head and sighed, "no, Earth can wait. I have no chance against Thanos if I do not get the weapon that will help me!"
Loki stared at him and bit his lip, unsure how to tell Thor that Niðavellir had been destroyed by Thanos during Loki's faux rule as Odin. "You speak of Niðavellir," Loki mumbled gravely, "you remember what happened the last time we went there?"
"You won't get your lips sewn shut again, Loki, they won't do the same trick again," Thor retorted before getting up and heading to a window, "we are going to Niðavellir."
"Woah woah," the raccoon spoke up, startling Loki, "Niðavellir? The legendary dwarf forge? Why do you need to go there?"
Thor turned to the raccoon and shrugged, "I need a weapon that will help me destroy Thanos and that is the only place that will be able to help me. I shall be taking one of your pods as well as my brother."
"Hold on!" called the Midgardian and Loki snorted when he heard that the simpleton had lowered his voice to sound like he was Thor, "you ain't taking anything off my ship, buddy. Those are my pods and so, you cannot take them."
Loki sighed and walked past the Midgardian with a grin, "face it, buddy, we do what we want. Thanos will be going to Knowhere to get the Reality Stone. Do not let him get his grimy purple overgrown mittens on them. It will kill us all."
With that, Loki walked over to Thor and used his seiðr to open the pod and Thor got in with his brother, the raccoon following moments later with the living tree.
"I am Groot," the tree said to Loki and because Loki had excelled in all of his lessons, he knew the tree had said 'move over a bit'.
Loki moved over in his seat to allow Groot to sit down and then turned to look out of a window as Thor started to pilot the vessel and transport them to Niðavellir.
Once they got to the planet, Loki frowned when he saw that the once beautifully burning planet was now reduced to darkness. Loki stared in shock as he saw the total destruction that Thanos had brought to the forge and he hated his past self for being so selfish as to ignore the pleas for help just because it was Thanos attacking. Loki looked at the decimated planet and mumbled a horrified, "I'm sorry."
Thor looked over at Loki and sighed as he stood to go and comfort his brother, "now I understand your motives to take over as Odin. You were safe from Thanos. Loki... this is not your fault, you felt like you were safer as Odin living on Asgard... It's alright."
Loki turned his face from the darkened forge and rested his head in the nook of Thor's neck, "what if he has reached our escape pod with the rest of the Asgardians? My beloved and Roselle are on that ship! If they don't survive..."
"They're alive, Loki," Thor assured, clasping his little brother's hands with a determined look on his face, "they're alive and you will see them again."
Loki nodded and sighed as the ship docked and they all emerged from it to hear that the forge was indeed as silent as the grave. Loki walked through the abandoned forge, retracing his old steps that he had taken with Odin, Frigga and Thor. He passed a mould for the Infinity Gauntlet and shuddered.
Suddenly, thunderous steps rattled the ground and both surviving members of the Asgardian Royal Family were greeted with the sight of Eitri coming out of the shadows. Thor sighed in relief as he walked to the giant before realising the giant was charging at them.
"Eitri! Stop, stop!" Thor called out, panicking for not only his own life but the lives of the people who voyaged with him.
"Thor?" the giant asked nervously and Loki sank back, unsure on how to manage this situation with the giant and his brother.
"What happened here?" Thor asked, looking around the damaged forge and Loki rolled his eyes, it was obvious what had happened but Thor would not accept it.
Eitri did not look happy with the question and he pointed straight at Thor, "you were meant to protect us! Asgard was meant to protect us!"
Thor hung his head and bit his lip, "Asgard is destroyed. Eitri, the glove. What did you do?"
The giant looked at Thor and also noticed Loki before sighing and shaking his head, "300 dwarves lived on this ring. I thought if I did what he asked, they’d be safe. I made what he wanted. A device capable of harnessing the power of the stones. Then he killed everyone anyway. All except me. “Your life is yours.” he said, “But your hands are mine alone.”"
Thor sighed and shook his head, not knowing how to properly comfort the dwarf and also win his trust, "Eitri, this isn’t about your hands. Every weapon you’ve designed, every axe, hammer sword…It’s all inside your head. Now I know all hope feels lost. Trust me, I know. But together, you and I, we can kill Thanos."
Eitri smirked and guided the guests of Niðavellir further into the forge. He grabbed a mould and put it on the stone table.
"A brick?" Rocket mumbled, "we're going to defeat Thanos with a brick?"
Eitri glared at Rocket and scoffed, "It’s a mould. A king’s weapon. Meant to be the greatest in Asgard. In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost."
Loki's interest was piqued and he took a step closer to observe the mould and he looked over at Thor with a grin, "a weapon for a king, you say?"
"Did it have a name?" Thor asked, not looking away from the mould of the weapon.
Eitri nodded and smirked down at the weapon, "Stormbreaker."
"Bit over the top," Loki and Rocket mumbled and they both snickered at how alike they were in reaction time.
"But there was also something else, for the second Prince," Eitri interrupted and Loki froze. A weapon for me? Odin thought of a weapon I could have?
"For me?" Loki asked uncertainly and Eitri nodded before walking off and coming back with two smaller slabs and Loki recognised them easily, they called to him.
"How do we make them?" Thor asked and Loki pouted, stepping away from the two smaller slabs.
Eitri pointed out to the dark star in the centre of the forge, "you'll need to restart the forge. Awaken the heart of a dying star."
Loki scoffed and smirked, "sounds easy."
Thor ignored his remark and turned to Rocket, "rabbit, fire up the pod."
Thor walked away with Rocket and Loki sighed as he stared out to the star, imagining himself to be back in your arms with Roselle cuddled into the both of you.
It turns out that Thor needed to hold the eye open long enough to make the weapons. Loki winced as he saw just how in pain his brother was and he reached out with his seiðr to try and ease the pain and burns but his seiðr was barely like glass because of the distance between them.
Thor kept the forge open long enough to make the moulds and when the correct amount of metal was reached, Thor's grip became slack and he fell from the pod. Loki screamed and threw out a rope of green towards his brother, grabbing him by the hip and pulling him back to the land.
"We need the handles!! Tree, help me find the handles!!" Eitri was yelling and Loki turned just long enough to see Groot cut off his own arm as he was holding Stormbreaker, creating the handle.
Eitri grabbed the two dagger blades and grabbed golden hilts, hammering it onto the blade. Immediately, Loki and Thor's hands reached out for the weapons and they sung as they flew into their hands. Power soared through Loki's veins and he gasped as it ignited a power inside him that he never knew before.
Distantly, he heard Frigga's voice whisper in his ear, "well done, my child, well done."
Thor stood with Stormbreaker and his eye flashed with lightning. He smirked at Loki and made a 'come here' motion and Loki gladly walked toward his brother. Thor then brought Stormbreaker down and the Bifrost opened around them, making them appear on the battlefield of Wakanda.
Loki looked around the battlefield and licked his lips as he engaged in the battle. He ducked and dodged and threw his daggers for what seemed like minutes. When he was surrounded, his eyes gleamed with a beautiful green flame before his body turned blue and his eyes opened to show their beautiful red. Smirking, he stabbed the daggers into the ground and the floor around him for ten metres froze enemies to the ground, giving the Avengers plenty of time to defeat the monsters.
Loki slashed his way through most of the army before his streak was ruined by a scream. Your scream. His head whipped around so fast to see you surrounded by monsters on the other side of the battlefield. Snarling, Loki disappeared in a flash of blue and reappeared five feet above you and he dropped down in front of you, his daggers easily stabbing the ground and freezing the monsters in place.
You took the opportunity to slash them down with your sword and when you two were alone but surrounded bodies, you turned to him and laughed, jumping into his arms. "Oh, Loki!" you cried, nuzzling your head into his neck and laughing, "I thought you said you were going to die!"
"I could never leave you and our child alone!" Loki replied, holding your waist and cupping your cheek gently as he smiled at you, leaning down to press a firm kiss to your lips and you gasped at the feeling, wrapping your arms around his neck to deepen the kiss.
Loki scoffed and pulled away as a monster tried to sneak up on him and he cut its head clean off with the dagger before dipping you and kissing you again. When he was done reacquainting himself with your lips, he pulled away and tilted his head. "Where's Roselle?"
"Safe," you replied with a smile, stroking his cheek, "with my mother and my family. I made sure that they knew the circumstances."
"Oh you're bloody amazing!" Loki breathed and kissed you passionately before a shockwave was felt throughout the battlefield. Loki's head whipped around to the forest before he looked around and gasped when he saw people disappearing.
When he felt you waver, his heart stopped. He looked back at you and shook his head quickly, "no, no, no, no! Not you! Please not you!"
You smiled softly at him as he pressed another kiss to your lips, your eyes closing as you disappeared into dust. When you were gone, Loki dropped to his knees and cried out your name for Valhalla to hear. Maybe he should've died, after all.
Everyone around him was looking confused as comrades, friends and family disappeared. Loki stood up numbly and sent a wave of seiðr to Thor to assure him that he was okay.
Thor landed by his side a moment later, looking just as haunted as Loki felt. "We failed. We lost. Loki? What do we do? Do we find Roselle and your wife?"
"She's gone..." Loki muttered, watching Thor's expression sadden and Loki sighed, "I need to find her family. I need to get Roselle."
Thor nodded and hugged Loki, rubbing his back and whispering in his ear, "come to Norway when you find her. I will need your help."
Loki nodded numbly before returning to his Asgardian form and disappearing in a flash of green. He tracked his baby girl's seiðr signature and found her in the countryside of England with your parents, them having moved there after you had told them months ago America isn't safe.
Loki appeared in Roselle's bedroom and walked over to her crib where she was crying and rolling around. Loki gently picked her up and paced around the room, shushing her gently and patting her back, "shhh... easy... we'll be fine, we'll all be fine... daddy has you..."
Loki looked down at Roselle and almost cried when he saw how alike she looked to you and he stroked back her black hair and kissed her forehead, "daddy has you..."
