Literature Impasse — 文学隘路 【Chapter 9】
Tumblr media
PREVIOUS CHAPTER | MASTERLIST | NEXT CHAPTER
translation under the cut!
Tumblr media
Chikage: ......So, this time your production is based off your experience of falling into such a slump.
Tsuzuru: That's how it is.
Citron: How do you read this?
Sakuya: "Literary Im-pass"? [1]
Tsuzuru: "Impasse". It means a narrow path or a difficult problem.
I made various changes to the script this time. I decided to turn my own experience into a play and perform it so I don't forget these true feelings that I felt as a writer.
I mean... It's a very personal reason, but… it's me in the lead too, so I'm really sorry for bringing these particular things into the play.
Like in "A Clockwork Heart" or "Run Around the Field."...
Itaru: Like I said before, I think it's a great ability for a writer to be able to sublimate the things that happen in their lives into their work.
Sakuya: I loved "Run Around the Field"!
Itaru: Ah, I get you. The relationship between Kubota and Miyagi was really good.
Citron: If that's the case, then I like "The Luminous Circus"!
Itaru: I like "IMMORTAL Crow" too. The characters are all people you can stan easily.
Chikage: For me, I think it has to be "A Clockwork Heart" that I like most. It was the first performance that I watched by Spring Troupe.
Regardless of how it started, it left a genuine impression on me. Since then, I've watched it again on DVD.
Sakuya: What about you, Masumi-kun?
Masumi: I don't have a particular favourite.
I guess...... If I had to pick though I think it'd be "Sympathy for the Angel".
Itaru: Heh, that's unexpected.
Citron: I understand! I'm sure it's because it's a love story.
Chikage: That one's pretty good, isn't it? I like that the Winter Troupe's style is a bit heartrending overall.
Sakuya: I always cry when I watch their plays. I cried over "Yin Yang Midnight" too!
Izumi: I totally understand!
Citron: "+3Ghosts" was also very moving!
Tsuzuru: ......You all talk too much.
Itaru: That's a given. We're all Tsuzuru Minagi's enthusiasts after all.
Tsuzuru: That's embarrassing, but thank you.
Chikage: Come to think of it, you don't look pale this time. Usually you're like a zombie when you're bringing the script.
Tsuzuru: Actually, as an extension to writing Otomiya-san's script, he imposed a ban on pulling all-nighters and Masumi has been the timekeeper for it......
Masumi: The director told me to help watch him so that he wouldn't get sick.
Izumi: Sorry about that. Ever since I made him write on a short schedule for Romijuli, it's become Tsuzuru-kun's style to push himself too hard…
Tsuzuru: No its okay, since I find it hard to concentrate unless I feel like I'm cornered and my ass is on fire.
But, Otomiya-san also told me that if I wanted to make a living as a professional for a long time, I should make some changes to my work style.
I'll be getting older from now on too!
Itaru: Tsuzuru's all grown up now...
Chikage: Just now, that's the most I've felt someone mature in a while......
Citron: His growth is showing his old age...
Tsuzuru: Please don't say it in such a bad way!
Anyway, from now on, I'll be more conscious when taking care of my health so that everyone won't worry about me.
Izumi: Looks like you're all ready to live as a professional writer seriously now.
Tsuzuru: Yeah.
Izumi: All right, then, Tsuzuru-kun's script is ready to go, and we can go all out and start rehearsals from tomorrow all the way until the show!
Sakuya: Yes!
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: Whew......
(I'm glad I was able to finish the script without a hitch and everyone in Spring Troupe was happy with it.)
Tumblr media
Itaru: Like I said before, I think it's a great ability for a writer to be able to sublimate the things that happen in their lives into their work.
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: (I probably would have wanted to tell Tei that, too.)
Tsuzuru: ......
Tumblr media
Luke: "Back then, thank you for writing that ending. For me and for you"
"You're a kind person, so I'm sure the stories you will write for yourself will be tender as well."
Tsuzuru: ......You're right. I'm sure I will, Luke. All I want is to write tender stories for others.
(Maybe this kind of daydreaming habit is also necessary for me as a writer.)
......zzz
Tumblr media
Itaru: You've really gotten into traditional wear, huh.
Tsuzuru: At first it really felt like I was being made to wear this stuff...... but Azami did a great job with our hair and makeup.
Citron: In the beginning, it was like Hachi-Roku-Yon!
Masumi: Shichi-Go-San you mean. [2]
Chikage: You're off by one.
Sakuya: The glasses that Yuki-kun and Azami-kun talked about and picked out together are really nice too!
Chikage: Overall, the atmosphere this time around is quite different.
Sakuya: Everyone looks super cool!
Tsuzuru: ......Hey, Sakuya.
Sakuya: What's wrong?
Tsuzuru: During our rehearsals for this play, and even earlier than that... Actually thinking about it, right from the very start. Thank you for always being the first to praise my scripts.
Sakuya: No, it's nothing at all! I just love stories, so I'm always deeply moved by Tsuzuru-kun's genuine scripts......!
Tsuzuru: Even so, writers are always anxious. I get a sense of relief whenever I get a straight affirmation of my work from someone like Sakuya.
And Sakuya has always been giving me hints since Romijuli. Like with Immortal Crow, and this time around with Tei.
Above all, it's fun to write with Sakuya as the motif. This time too, I enjoyed writing about Chikyu, because it came so naturally.
It's a role that's out of character for Sakuya, but also I think that's why he's going to give it his all; since it's a new challenge.
Sakuya: Yes! I could feel Tsuzuru-kun's trust in me when he wrote the role of Chikyu just for me. As an actor, that made me really happy.
Tsuzuru: Of course I trust you. You're supporting me as the co-lead. As long as Sakuya's with me, I'll probably be fine.
Sakuya: ...Of course!
Masumi: It's about time to huddle.
Citron: Even at this time, Masumi, you're a gatekeeper!
Tsuzuru: How cool. You mean 'Timekeeper', right?
Itaru: A few words from the lead, please.
Tsuzuru: Uh well, the slump that inspired this script was also what almost made me lose hope as a writer......
But then a while back, everyone started complimenting all of my work–
I was once again proud of the scripts I'd written and the characters I'd brought into the world up until now, and I didn't want to forget that.
I know I'll sound like a doting parent, or too much like self-praise but... I really love each and every one of the characters that exist in the stories I've created.
And it's not only cause I wrote them, but because everyone breathes life into these characters when acting.
For the characters in this play too; I really like each one of them.
Right now, I think that everyone standing in front of me in costume looks wonderful......
I am so happy to have all the actors that I admire playing the roles I've written for them. Once again, thank you.
Let's make this show a success, and an important story that we'll never forget.
Sakuya: Yes!
Citron: Of course!

★ Main Story | Act 13 - Budding Spring | Chapter 3 - One Step Up
Tumblr media
*Door opens*
Kumon: We’re back~!
Juza: We’re home.
Taichi: I’m starving~.
Tenma: Looks like Omi-san’s in charge of dinner tonight.
Tsuzuru: Smells like it’s something with a demi-glace sauce…
Omi: The beef stew will be ready soon.
Kumon: Woo~! I was hoping to eat some meat~!
Kazunari: The Yosei Uni Gang’s really building up their forces~.
Muku: Kyu-chan’s the only new one, though.
Yuki: But he’s got the presence of about two or three people.
Tsumugi: How’s college life been going, Kumon-kun?
Kumon: It’s super interesting! Unlike with my classes in high school, I actually feel motivated to study on my own.
Tumblr media
Kumon: Plus I get to be with Nii-chan!
Banri: I figured you had had that planned from the start, but you actually didn’t decide on where you were gonna go for school until much later, right?
Kumon: Hey, I thought about it a lot, y’know.
Kumon: And I didn’t just think about Nii-chan, I also made sure to think about the best college for me to go to.
Azami: The growth of someone with a brother complex.
Yuki: They still ended up at the same college, though.
Kumon: That’s ‘cause Nii-chan and Tenma-san seemed like they really liked it there!
Tenma: Well, you are right about that.
Juza: Glad ya got accepted in.
Taichi: You’ve been doing great with writing essays and doing job interview prep~.
Kumon: Hehe. That’s thanks to you, Nii-chan, and Tenma-san for teaching me so much!
Chikage: It’s so touching to see Tenma becoming the tutor.
Tenma: Thanks for that.
Kazunari: Yawn~…
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: You seem tired, Miyoshi-san.
Kazunari: I had a deadline for some urgent work yesterday. Hardly got any sleep~.
Tsuzuru: Good work.
Muku: You suddenly seem like much more of an adult, Kazu-kun.
Kazunari: What I do is kinda just an extension of what I did in college, but once that label of “student” is gone, it makes you a little more conscious of it.
Omi: It’s a lot of work and responsibility, but it’s also a lot of fun.
Tsuzuru: Is that so…
Kazunari: You’ll get what we’re talking about in a year, Tsuzurun~.
Izumi: Omi-kun’s right, your impression of things changes once you graduate from college.
Azuma: I enjoy seeing these changes every year once spring comes.
Homare: Yes, however, there are still some of us that haven’t changed much at all.
Azuma: It’s thanks to everyone that spring is nice like this.
Tasuku: Well, even though some of us haven’t been through any major changes, I’m sure we’re all busy with something, right?
Guy: It appears that you’ve been getting more and more requests to do guest appearances, Takato.
Sakuya: Ah, actually, I’m about to get an offer to perform on a slightly bigger stage too--.
Tsumugi: Really? That’s great.
Tasuku: That’s probably the result of steadily building up your experience. Shows how much you’ve become recognized as an actor.
Tumblr media
Sakuya: Thank you so much!
Citron: I have started getting pressured to do arts and culture-related work from all over the place~.
Itaru: And I’m still annoyed that I’m stuck being treated like some mid-level NPC…
Chikage: That’s normal for having worked there for five years.
Guy: Speaking of that, I’ve been entrusting Mikage with more work, too.
Hisoka: I know how to make a few appetizers now…
Tasuku: What, like toasted marshmallows and marshmallow pizza?
Hisoka: Well, yeah, but there’s other stuff too.
Homare: To be dabbling in dishes other than ones with marshmallows… that’s quite remarkable progress!
Misumi: Speaking of new things, my friend Mii-chan just had a litter of kitties~.
Muku: Congratulations!
Tumblr media
Yuki: Why are you congratulating the Trianglien for it?
Izumi: Seems like everything’s going smoothly for the company while each of you is moving forward and changing in your own ways.
Izumi: That reminds me, the kid we met today also said he was going to be a new high school student starting in the spring.
Kumon: Huh~, what was he like?
Tsuzuru: He was an interesting one, for sure.
Masumi: He wasn’t interesting, he was annoying.
Itaru: He was an avid Masumi fan.
Izumi: He said he used to live in a rural area and that he’s been supporting us for quite some time via our streams.
Sakyo: Is that the power of MIZUNO Enterprises…?
Sakyo: We’ll have to keep up our efforts to reach an even wider audience.
Izumi: He said he was really looking forward to seeing one of our performances live.
Tasuku: There is just something different about seeing a play in person.
Sakuya: There really is. He was really looking forward to seeing it, so we’ll have to do our best not to disappoint.
Izumi: Ah, right! The idea came to me when we were talking to that kid, but--.
Izumi: How does a workshop aimed at beginners sound for the upcoming event?
Izumi: When I realized that people were interested in theater because of MANKAI Company’s performances, I thought that maybe promoting theater as a concept could be necessary too.
Izumi: And I think it’d be a good experience for us to share the joy of plays with them more directly and to have fun together.
Sakuya: That’s true, that could be a really good idea!
Citron: It sounds very fun!
Chikage: But wouldn’t people who have more experience with theater, like Tenma, Tasuku, or Tsumugi, be more suitable for teaching people than us Spring Troupe members?
Tsuzuru: He’s got a point, most of us are still pretty inexperienced actors. I mean, almost all of us were complete amateurs until a few years ago.
Masumi: I can do it.
Tumblr media
Itaru: You’re probably the least qualified to teach.
Izumi: That’s the point. You all still feel like amateurs and remember how you felt when you first stepped on stage just a few years ago.
Izumi: I’m confident that you guys will be able to convey theater from a perspective that’s closer to a beginner’s.
Izumi: It’s not a workshop for actors, and it’s definitely not just for teaching like Yuzo-san’s workshops…
Izumi: I think it should be about just trying to enjoy theater together, just like if you were reminiscing about your old selves. That’s the best we can do, I think.
Izumi: And it could be an opportunity to expand our fan base too…
Izumi: I think it’s only because of how everyone is now that we can try to make people more aware of theater.
Sakuya: Yeah… I get it. Up until now, we’ve just been doing our best in regards to ourselves, but now…
Itaru: Exactly. Maybe we’ll be able to have some fun together.
Chikage: We could be our own motivation.
Tsuzuru: Maybe I’ll even be able to get a hint for our next play.
Citron: I will take on any challenge!
Izumi: Alright, it’s decided!
Izumi: Once the date is decided on, can you take care of the flier design, Kazunari-kun?
Kazunari: You betcha!
Izumi: I’ll take care of the printing and distributing myself then.
Masumi: I’ll help.
Itaru: We’ll also need an announcement on our social media, right? Leave it to me.
Chikage: It’d be a good idea to also put something on the theater noticeboard, right?
Izumi: Alright, I’ll leave all the announcement-related stuff to you two, and then… Sakuya-kun and Citron-kun, can I leave outlining the workshop to you guys?
Sakuya: Roger that!
Tumblr media
Citron: We will think of an eggciting workshop that will eggcite everyone~!
Manager: Ah, everyo~ne, it’s almost time~!
Kumon: We gotta turn on the TV!
