hello what's this?
Yesterday's Promise - Chapter 124 - Silverstar1 - Thunderbirds [Archive of Our Own]
also for anyone who skips my author's notes (I do not blame you, they are unhinged): there's going to be a new chapter on Wednesday 27th. The reasons for this are as follows:
I had to split this chapter in half because having 30k+ to read would be insane even by my standards
For those of us who celebrate Christmas, it gives us something to break up that weird week between Boxing Day and NYE when time doesn't exist. For anyone who doesn't celebrate, hey, you get an extra chapter just as a little treat!
I wanted to upload the final chapter on NYE still. It just seems satisfying. Last chapter on the last day of the year - it makes my brain happy, y'know?

Medicate
Thomas decides to try anxiety medication, working together with Virgil to find the one that works
AO3
….
I myself am on anxiety medication, and it is so helpful. I kinda hate the "Thomas takes medication and it hurts Virgil" trope, because that's not what the medication is meant to do, and if it does hurt you, then it's either the wrong dose or the wrong medication. This is mostly based off my own experiences trying to find the one that works.
….
“Hey.” He says, popping onto his place on the stairs, eyebrow raised as he looks around and sees no one else, just Thomas. “Sup?” He asks, nervousness creeping into him at Thomas's silence.
 “I… wanted to talk to you about something. But I don’t want you to freak out and run away. I won’t do this if you don’t want me to.” Thomas says seriously, and his heart is racing now as he forces a deep breath in.
 “Ok. Ok. Whatever it is, I won’t run, ok? Just… tell me now and explain after, otherwise, well, anxiety.” Thomas takes a deep breath, nodding once to steel himself.
 “I want to start anxiety medication.” Static roars in his ears. He’s been too much, of course he has, and now Thomas is going to get rid of him just like he always should have.
 “il. Virgil. Breathe. In for four… hold for seven… out for eight.” He slowly gets ahold of himself, following Thomas's voice out and back to reality until he blinks and his vision clears.
 “sorry. I… whatever it was, I’m sorry." His voice is a whisper, but Thomas hears, coming closer and kneeling at the base of the stairs.
 “no. It’s not like that, Virgil. I’ve been researching a lot. This isn’t to get rid of you. It won’t get rid of you. I want it to help. The both of us." He uncurls slightly, reassured at Thomas’s vehemence, curiosity peeking through. Thomas sees this and continues at his small nod.
“You work so hard, Virgil. And I appreciate it, I do. But we both know you go overboard sometimes. I’m not blaming you, I know you can’t help it, that we, can’t help it. But that isn’t healthy. Not being able to sleep, not being able to eat, heart racing and stomach churning constantly, isn’t healthy.” He nods again. He knows this. He can’t stop how he is, but he knows his habits are unhealthy. “That's what the meds are for. Not to get rid of you, not to impair your purpose, just… just to take the edge off. To give you space to breathe. To just… be. Help us relax, help us not overblow things, and if it is doing more than that, if it is hurting you, then it isn’t doing its job right, ok? If we do this, I need you on board. If you feel wrong or bad or sick, then either the dose or the med isn’t right for us, and we’ll try something else. The goal is not to get rid of you, Virg. It’s to help you.”
 He’s silent for a moment, taking it all in, processing the information, before taking a deep breath, pushing back his hair.
 “ok.”
 “Ok?”
 “Yeah. Ok. A few years ago I woulda laughed in your face, but I… I trust you, Thomas. Yeah, I’m freaked out and scared half to death but that’s part of the problem, isn’t it? I’m scared and guarded and overwhelmed all the time. I’m so… tired.” He bites his lip, looking down, feeling the tension thrumming in his shoulders, the slightly too fast beat of his heart, how even now his mind is screaming danger, and feels the weight of the world atop him. “I’m tired Thomas. So if you think this will help, ok. Let’s try it.”
 “Thank you, virg. For hearing me out. I’m proud of you.” He hides his smile by rolling his eyes, looking up at Thomas.
 “yeah, well, don’t go soft on me now, Thomas.” A small salute, and he's gone, leaving Thomas chuckling to himself on the staircase.
He pops into the living room with little fanfare, flopping onto the couch with a low sigh, faceplanting into the cushions. He can hear the scratch of Princey’s pencil against paper, Logan turning pages in a book, Patton humming softly to himself, but his hair prickles.
 “It’s rude to stare, y’know.” He says, voice muffled by the cushion, but still loud enough they all hear.
 “You’re not even looking at us! How do you know we’re staring?” Roman asks, and he rolls his eyes, flipping over so his head is against the arm rest, hugging a pillow to his stomach.
 “Logan reads faster than that, he was barely turning pages. Patton only hums like that when he’s nervous and trying to pretend he’s not focused on the thing that he is focused on, and you kept stopping writing every few seconds before picking up again, erasing whatever you just wrote.” Roman gapes at him, Logan adjusts his glasses and Patton whispers ‘wow’.
 “You got all that from listening?” Princey squeaks and he smirks.
 “Amazing what you notice when you shut your mouth, Princey.” Roman splutters, making him laugh, Logan shaking his head fondly.
 “so kiddo… how’d it go?” Patton asks softly, slipping onto the end of the couch, and Virgil looks up at him in surprise.
 “You knew?”
 “We did. Thomas approached all of us first, so we would be prepared to help, whatever the outcome of the conversation was. Based on your demeanor, I would assume it went well?” Logan asks, and he sighs, sitting up, hugging the pillow closer.
 “Y’know, usually I’m not a fan of people talking behind my back, but I’ll let it slide this time.” He comments, smiling slightly as Patton slides across the couch, sitting so their sides are touching.
 “We get it, doom and gloom, how did it go?” Roman asks, throwing up his hands in faux exasperation.
 “good, I guess. We talked, and I’m still… anxious, obviously, about it, about what could go wrong, but Thomas said that if it affects me… badly… he’ll stop. That it isn’t supposed to get rid of me, so we’re gonna try.”
 “Thomas is correct. The medication is not supposed to impair you, rather it is supposed to help you better distinguish what is urgent and what is not. If it is doing anything other than that, it is not only harming you, but harming Thomas as well. I will be making daily observations, about your mood, physical state, mental state, sleep and food intake, to help monitor the effects of the medication and make sure that it is not causing you harm.”
 “Oh Logan. You do care.” He snarks playfully, catching Logan’s stifled smile.
 “Of course he does. We all do, Virg. We’ll all be keeping an eye out, ok?” Roman, soft and serious as he catches his eye.
 “thanks, princey.” Patton simply shifts closer, waiting for his nodded permission before resting his head on his shoulder in silent support.
The first medication goes poorly.
 Things are fine, at first. It takes two to three weeks to kick in, after all, though Virgil starts noticing changes by the end of week one.
 He feels strange. Odd. Off. Sometimes, the world seems to tilt under his feet, and he finds himself losing his balance, stumbling over his own feet, running into doors and walls, misjudging their distance. He writes it off as a result of not getting enough sleep, which is true. He’s sleeping less than normal, almost not at all, going through episodes of heightened energy before crashing.
 The crux of it all is when he’s been awake for five days straight, unable to turn off his mind, twitchy and sure that Thomas is being watched, being followed. He jumps at a hand on his shoulder, heart speeding, already on the edge of panic, eyeshadow dark and breathing rapid.
 “Virgil. We need to speak to Thomas.” His heart rate spikes further, and he pushes Logan away, shaking his head, hands shaking.
 “No. no, no, no. I can’t, I’m busy, they’re watching, I can’t go out there or they’ll see. They can’t see.”
 “I promise nothing will happen to you. They can’t get you if I’m there. I will keep you safe.” Hesitantly, he nods. Logan is smart, Logan can outsmart them, trick them, maybe he can get them to go away.
 “Thomas. This one isn’t working.” Logan states as they rise up. He is pressed against the wall, eyes darting wildly, breathing erratic and wrong, pressure building in his chest. Thomas looks up at him, eyes wide, and he stumbles back further.
 “Virgil?” He shakes his head, panic taking over him. Because that isn’t Thomas. He doesn’t know how he knows, but he knows, that isn’t Thomas, someone has taken Thomas and replaced him, this isn’t his host, his friend, and Thomas is in danger, and he didn’t notice and how could he fail like this, fail Thomas, like this?
 Then the world goes black.
They take a month. The medication needs to get out of Thomas’s system, and he needs to wean himself off it. He is paranoid and stressed and when it finally stops, he sleeps for nearly three days straight. During it all, the others take turns staying with him, never leaving him alone, constantly talking him down from his ever present fear and panic, wiping himself out with panic attacks day after day. It’s the worst experience of his entire life.
“Hey.” He appears of his own accord on the stairs, Thomas looking up from the couch, concern in his eyes. He hadn’t appeared since he’d passed out, though the others had, to give Thomas updates. He’d admitted he hadn’t been feeling quite right either, but hadn’t really noticed how bad he himself was getting until Virgil.
 “Virgil, are you ok? I’m so sorry, I-“ He holds up a hand, gathering his thoughts and stopping Thomas’s rambling.
 “I’m fine. You don’t need to apologize. It wasn’t your fault. We knew there was a chance it wasn’t gonna go well. Stuff like this, doesn’t usually work on the first try. But I think… I think we should try again.” Thomas blinks in surprise, looking at him carefully, trying to asses his words.
 “You do? I thought you’d be entirely against it now.” He shrugs, looking away.
 “Sure, that one didn’t go well, to say the least, but… I don’t want that to stop you. Stop us. It’ll still help, once we find the right one.” Thomas smiles softly, nodding.
 “ok. Ok, let’s do it. I’ll set up another appointment.”
He doesn’t notice the changes, this time.
 They are gradual. Slow.
 He finds the ever present tension leaking out of his shoulders.
 He finds it easier to breath. His chest feels lighter, open, not tight and taut and suffocating.
 He doesn’t panic, when the waiter asks Thomas to order. When a stranger bumps into Thomas on the street. When he fumbles over his words on a phone call.
 He’s sleeping. He finds himself drifting farther and farther from his usual 3am bedtime and noon wake up, until he’s forgoing his usual tumblr scrolling, phone set aside by ten. The first time he wakes up at nine, well rested and light, is when he realizes that this… this is working.
 He cries that day. He sits on the couch and cries, letting Patton pull him close and hold him, letting himself lean into the touch, and for once it doesn’t feel too much, it feels nice and good, and he cries harder as Patton shushes him, rubbing his back.
 “you ok, kiddo?” Patton asks, when his cries die down into sniffles, slipping off Patton’s lap, but not going far, letting the fatherly side keep an arm around his shoulders, gently rubbing circles with his thumb.
 “I didn’t realize… I didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to feel like that, all the time. I didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to be afraid all the time. I… I just…” He swipes at his eyes, letting out a shuddering sigh.
 “it’s ok, Virg. I’m just glad it helps. I’m so glad you’re doing better, I’m so glad this is working. You’re sleeping more. You’re smiling more. You’re laughing, Virgil, and it just makes me so, so, so, happy. You don’t look like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders anymore. You don’t slouch as much, you’re more confident, you’re more open to touch, you come to us when you’re worked up, you’re not constantly second guessing yourself, and it’s beautiful, Virgil. It’s beautiful, to watch you grow like this. To watch you be able to let go of some of that.” He stares at Patton, mind spinning out, because he’d noticed some of that, but not all of it.
 “I hadn’t noticed.”
 “You aren’t supposed to. It’s not changing who you are, Virg. It’s just… letting you be who you are without all of the fear. It’s slow and steady progress. And I’m so proud of you, kiddo.”
 He buries his face against Patton’s side, laughing and crying all at once, because he loves this feeling, loves feeling like this, loves… loves himself.
 For the first time ever, he isn’t afraid.
 And  Patton is right.
 It’s beautiful.

(This is so long I just got super carried away)
--
“Remus, is there a reason you’ve kneaded your dough into the shape of an ass?”
Virgil watched with a fond sigh as the man next to him proudly stood over the booty bread he’d lovingly crafted over the last ten minutes.
“Not really,”, Remus cackled, raising his hands, “Except for this!”, and with that, he brought down his hands in a flurry of obscene slaps to the fake rear. Virgil maintained his composure for all of a minute before he had to physically restrain his snickering.
God dammit, this fucking guy! Thirteen years and Remus was still the one person who could make him laugh like the world wasn’t watching.
“Well, when you’re finishing pulverising your Glutenous Maximus, are you gonna finally tell me what you’re actually shaping your loaf into this time?”, Virgil snarked affectionately.
Remus rolled his eyes; his emo dork was spending far too much time with Patton lately.
“Same as the last time we did this, duuuh.”, he retorted, as if that were common knowledge.
Virgil’s eyes widened, “.... You’re not serious.”
“As serious as Naegleria Fowleri.”
“.. as what?!”
“Y’know, that fucked up brain eating amoeba that they found in that one Disney water park-”
“NEVERMIND!”, Virgil hastily shook the thought away as he tended to his own dough, “Don’t tell me, I’ll have nightmares for weeks...”
The hoodie clad mad looked Remus up and down as he folded his own purple dyed dough, “.... Are you really going to attempt the Cocktopus again? Seriously?”
Remus shrugged, already forming the eight ‘tentacles’ in stunningly graphic detail, “Why not? You’re making purple bread again, why don’t I do the same?”
Well, he had him there. Really, Virgil had gone to make his bread purple without even thinking about it. Perhaps just being next to Remus after all this time had subconsciously brought him back to that same summer day they’d spent in the kitchen side by side making bread together. Virgil could hear his mother’s old junkbox of a radio blaring Redbone’s Come and Get Your Love while he and Remus slung flour at each other and danced about in their socks trying not to slip.
Being back in the same house - now passed down to him - making bread once again with Remus brought back so many memories and emotions. Most of them good, though as he looked over to the man he still loved absolutely going to town on his bread sculpting, Virgil couldn’t help but remember how much guilt he still harboured; he’d never expected Remus to kiss him out of the blue back then, but Virgil also hadn’t expected to silently run off to his room to calm down, only to find Remus had left.
Not just his home, but his life. Virgil hadn’t wanted to face Remus, unsure of how to handle his feelings, but seeing the moving sign on the Duke family’s front lawn that next week as he watched the moving van leave just that little bit too quickly for Virgil to say goodbye had plagued his mind more often than he cared to admit.
A gross, gooey wetness on his cheek hauled him back to the present, only to realise Remus had finished a surprisingly glorious cocktopus and had slathered some of the egg wash on his cheek.
“Earth to Tickle-Me-Emo, you good??”
Virgil would’ve socked him in the arm if Remus’ concerned smile didn’t send his heart racing too hard to consider it. He wiped the mixture off his cheek, only mumbling back at Remus as he formed his purple mix into little loafs, “I’m fine, just stop covering my face in slimy shit.”
“..... Okay, now I know something’s up. You never leave me room for innuendos like that.”
Not even waiting to clean the residual flour off of his hand, Remus softly reached out and Virgil anxiously awaited the touch on his cheek.
But it never came.
He watched as Remus seemed to course correct and he used his thumb to draw a line down his forehead, whispering, “Simbaaaaa-”
“Okay, fuck ooooff!”, Virgil had snorted, fondly swatting at Remus.
“Come on, Virge! You looked like you were gonna blow a blood vessel, how could I not diffuse the tension a little?”, Remus snickered, though the silence that followed wasn’t so comfortable somehow. Virgil struggled to place it until he noticed Remus’ expression falter. He didn’t get the chance to ask what was wrong before Remus spoke up,
“This was a mistake, wasn’t it?”
A cold jolt shuddered along Virgil’s spine, rattling each vertebrae as it went.
“What’re you-”
“Why’d you invite me over, Virge?”
Truthfully, Virgil knew exactly why he had invited Remus from the outset; he wanted to see him again, drown in his presence, hopefully find out that he was single and still just as in love with Virgil after all these years as he was with Remus. But once Remus was there, single and right in front of him, he’d panicked - what else was new? - and resorted to turning their meeting into a catching up between old friends.
But people who are just friends don’t dream about being held by their friend at night, don’t fantasize about a future together, don’t lay awake at night regretting not having just taken the chance to be more when they had it.
They also don’t stare at their friend’s gorgeous toned body every chance they get, but that felt a little too pathetic to admit on top of everything else.
Virgil wasn’t aware of how quiet he’d been until Remus spoke again, “Here I am, thinking maybe you might want me back in your life for good, maybe even like me back if I was lucky....”, Remus paused forlornly, an expression that didn’t suit him in the slightest, “But even now you’re still anxious around me. Which, I mean, I get it. Why would you like me back after I just kissed you out of the blue like that-”
“But why would you want me-?!”
His voice wasn’t meant to come out so high pitched and whiny, but Virgil was more focused on trying to process what Remus had just said. Remus liked him still. After all this time. And yet, Virgil’s brain was still trying to ruin it.
“Remus, you… look at you!”, he gestured to all of him, “You’re still a fucking weirdo but you’re stupidly hot!”
Virgil kicked himself mentally, his hands raking through his hair and nails scraping his scalp, “Ugh, no! I mean! Fuck, Remus, I’ve been in love with you all this time! I haven’t even LOOKED at another guy in these last thirteen years, because whenever I even think about finding someone to settle down with, the only goddamn thing I can think about is how much I only want you-!”
The clattering of a knocked over kitchen table was the only warning Virgil got. Then all he could focus on was Remus’ arms wrapping around him, his breath cool against his neck.
“Then why’d you never tell me, you asshole?!”, Remus murmured against him.
Virgil wondered if he imagined the soft noise of relief Remus let out as Virgil hugged him.
“Because I’m the worst-”
“No.”, Remus cut him off, pulling back a little to give him an unimpressed look.
“No-?”
“No. Try again.”
Ah. It’d been years since Remus took this approach with him.
“,... Because I’m stupid-”
“Try agaaain.”, Remus droned, prodding one of the little purple loafs Virgil had lovingly been shaping from a circular loaf into a spider before all of this began.
“Dude, don’t poke my spiders-”
“Or what?”
Virgil narrowed his eyes, unable to stop the quirk of a grin, “Don’t you dare-”
Remus narrowed his gaze, grinning as he plunged a finger into another spider loaf. Virgil tried to stop him all the while Remus cackled and kept dotting them with holes. Finally, Virgil conceded,
“Fine! I was scared, okay-?!”
The silence hung heavier than both men anticipated. Virgil would’ve found Remus stopping dead with his finger shoved into the spider loaf’s ass hilarious if he wasn’t too busy shaking with nerves.
“I was scared.”, he repeated, quietly dropping onto one of the chairs around the table, “I liked you so much back then too, but emotions are the fucking worst when you’re a kid and I was still trying to work shit out.”
The scooting of a chair let Virgil know Remus had sat down too.
“My anxiety just got worse the longer I couldn’t see you, but every time I thought about facing you, I just kept thinking “well, he deserves better anyway-!””
Sick of hearing Virgil self deprecating further, Remus all but hauled Virgil into his lap, their faces inches from touching, eye contact unbreaking.
“Virge,”, Remus purred barely above a whisper, “I mean this in the nicest way possible..”
The way their lips brushed over each other send shockwaves along Virgil’s spine, “But shut the fuck up.”
The scrawnier man didn’t need to be told twice. The second Remus’ lips pressed against his own, Virgil had no intention of breaking the contact until he needed air. Not that he’d mind suffocation if it was Remus’ lips doing the smothering. His left hand threaded itself in Remus’ hair while the right held onto his firm bicep. Fucking hell, Remus had never been this solid when they were kids. Since when did real, unphotoshopped people have muscles like these-!?
All of a sudden, Virgil couldn’t care less as Remus’ hands caressed his hips, earning a gasp Remus was more than willing to use to deepen their kiss. He got no complaints from Virgil who reciprocated the intensity of their kiss with no hesitation. It’d already cost him thirteen years with the man he loved, Virgil wasn’t about to hold himself back anymore.
…. Okay maybe he should have held back a little.
A surge of panic jolted him free of the makeout headspace when he felt himself tipping back. Right, they were on one of the kitchen chairs. A chair meant to only support one person. Thankfully, Remus noticed and leant back. Instead of Virgil toppling to the floor, he wound up on top of Remus on the floor, hissing as his knees made contact with the tiles.
“Fucking hell-! Oh shit, Remus, you okay-?!”
Remus groaned and scrunched his eyes at the pain. Virgil immediately feared that Remus had done himself a serious injury, however the man he was using as a seat cracked an eye open and sighed theatrically,
“Well, at least I’m gonna die with a raging boner.”
Virgil sighed. He was fine.
“Come on, let’s get these dumb loaves in the oven and then you can be horny all you want-“
Remus didn’t waste a second. He barely gave Virgil a second to get off of him before he was up on his feet. A gasp made Virgil take a break from dusting flour off of himself.
“MY COCKTOPUS!!! IT’S DEAD!!!!”
Well, that’s not a phrase you hear everyday. Sure enough, when Virgil followed Remus’ gaze, the poor phallic sea demon he’d constructed had deflated somewhat; it’s many ‘’tentacles’’ had fallen over and flattened while the head of the beast was beginning to sag. Virgil was about to tell Remus to leave it be when he noted how genuinely upset Remus was.
Sighing, Virgil rolled his hoodie sleeves up to his elbows once more, “Alright, you can fix it, and THEN we’re making up for lost time..”

Chapter 5: Maybe This Is Fine?
~~~~~
Princey's date was called off?! How?! Who on earth wouldn't like him?! Virgil was furious, who the f**k says that they don't like someone until after they accept the date?!
...wait.
Virgil was such a hypocrite.
onthevirgeofananxietyattack: what?! What happened?! Who do i need to murder
princeofyourdreams: no one, im fine. he was just too nervous to say anything
Virgil wished he didn't relate so much to mystery guy, then maybe he would want to punch him.
onthevirgeofananxietyattack: well, are u ok?
princeofyourdreams: of course i am! I can conquer any challenge! Dont worry about me!
onthevirgeofananxietyattack: are u sure?
princeofyourdreams: seriously, anxiety, im ok. One disinterested boy isnt going to ruin me.
onthevirgeofananxietyattack: ok, good. Hes obviously not good enough for you anyway
princeofyourdreams: shut up haha
Well, Princey seemed to be doing ok. And maybe Virgil was a tad more excited then he should be, but can you blame him? He's had a crush on Princey for a year, and he might actually have a chance now!
Well, as much of a chance you could have when you've never even seen each other.
Now all Virgil had to do was go on this not-a-date date and live. Yay.
---
"Ok, now if you run out of money, ask him to pay for you."
"Dad!" Virgil scolded. "I'm not going to leech off my friends!"
Remy just chuckled. "C'mon Virge, live a little! It's not everyday you actually step outside. With a couple of boys no less."
Virgil turned red. "It's a friend date, Dad." He grumbled.
Remy turned to where Virgil was in the passenger seat and tilted down his shades to look him in the eyes. "Sure it is."
Virgil grumbled something as Remy pulled the car in front of the mall. "Here's your stop, babe."
Virgil rolled his eyes as his mouth betrayed him by smiling. "Whatever, I'll see you later."
"Love you." Remy added while Virgil stepped out of the car.
"Love you too, Dad."
Virgil eventually made his way over to the food court, where everyone was meeting.
Virgil was also questioning why he suggested this hang-out anyway. It was going to be so awkward! How was he going to have a good time with the guy he rejected, a nerd who could probably kill him, and a "friend" he only started talking to two days ago?
Why did he do this?
"Viiiiiirrrrrrrgiiiiiiiiiilllllllll!!!!!" Patton was suddenly running towards where Virgil was standing in the food court.
"Uh- wait-" Virgil got trapped in a bear hug (how? Patton is so small!) as soon as Patton reached him.
"Patton, try not to kill the poor fellow." Roman chuckled as he walked up to the trap that Virgil was caught in.
Patton eventually let Virgil breathe as he let go. "Sorry! I just got excited! I don't normally go many places!" He exclaimed.
"Well, we'll have to take you to more places then, Patton." Logan smirked as he approached the small group.
Roman chuckled again as Patton blushed and silently thanked him. "Well then!" Roman announced. "Where shall we go first?"
"Hot To-"
"No, Pumpkin King, we're not going to Hot Topic." Roman immediately interrupted.
"Then why did I even come?" Virgil whined playfully.
"C'mon, Roman! Hot Topic does have some really good Disney stuff~" Patton pushed in a teasing tone.
Roman let out a long, exaggerated groan. "Fiiiiiinnnnnneeeee. We can go."
"Yes!"
"Yay!"
"Satisfactory."
"Wow. Y'all are a bunch of nerds." Said Roman.
"Says the guy who cried when they changed Mickey Mouse's art style." Logan shot back.
"ListEN IT LOOKS LIKE ABSOLUTE CRAP AND ISN'T TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL!"
"Roman, please, I don't want to spend twenty minutes talking about-"
Roman quickly pulled out his phone and displayed two Mickey Mouse pictures with different art styles. "Look, Logan. Look at how they massacred my boy."
---
And after that debate, they made their way to the dark and ridiculously edgy Hot Topic, unfortunately located next to the very bright and pink Justice store.
"I must go, my people need me." Virgil joked as he walked through the doorway.
"Of course this is where your people are, where else could you find the emos?" Roman rolled his eyes playfully.
"Oh, do you know people here, Virgil?" Logan asked innocently, clearly not understanding the joke.
"No- it's- it's a meme."
"Don't even try, Angstintator, no one could ever teach Logan the way of memes." Roman announced, slowly drifting towards the Disney section.
"Well, they are nonsensical. They make zero sense most of the time!" Logan defended.
Patton suddenly gasped like a little kid in a candy store. "Vi, Ro, Lo, look!!!!!!"
They all looked to where Patton was pointing, and saw it.
They holy grail of cute things. Something that could almost (almost) rival Patton himself.
A Pusheen plush that was holding a cookie. It was beautiful (to Patton at least).
Patton squealed and grabbed the closest person (which happened to be Logan) and held his hand while dragging him towards the plush in excitement.
Logan immediately flushed and trailed after Patton helplessly.
Roman chuckled at that and returned to looking at the Disney merchandise, while Virgil made his way over to the band t-shirts.
"Look!!! Look at it!!!! It's so cuuuutttteeee!!!!!!" Patton fawned. He checked the tag for the price and immediately frowned. "Shoot..." He mumbled under his breath.
"What's wrong?" Logan asked, then checked the price. $39.98. Not too expensive, but expensive enough to be a pain.
"Ah. Not bring enough money?" Patton slowly nodded at the question, looking...guilty? Or maybe disappointed? Logan didn't really know, only that it was making Patton upset.
Logan frowned at that. Someone as bright and kind as Patton shouldn't be unhappy! Patton deserved to be happy at least 100% of the time, Logan thought.
"Logan!!! Come here!!! Look at this!" Roman called from behind a shelf somewhere, knocking Logan out of his thoughts.
"Uh- excuse me for a second Patton." Patton nodded with a small (was it sad, too?) smile as Logan went to find Roman.
Roman was located behind a shelf filled with more Disney merchandise. "What, Roman? I was kind of busy." He asked, clearly annoyed.
"Yeah, busy failing at wooing him." Roman rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Seriously Logan, how could you be so dense?"
"Do you want me to provide a list of examples and events that you were being 'dense' at?"
Roman simply groaned. "C'mon Logan, think for a second! Patton doesn't have enough money for the plush that makes him smile. A smile which you love seeing. Therefore, what do you do with that fat wallet of yours?"
It suddenly clicked in Logan's head. "Oh. Oh! Do you think he'll be happy about it?"
"Of course he will! He'll adore you!" Roman pushed Logan out from behind the shelf. "Now go gettem!"
Meanwhile, Patton was talking with Virgil.
"Hey, Virge! Did you find anything?"
All Virgil had to do to answer the question was look at Patton with the pile of shirts in his arms.
"Uh. Yeah." Virgil replied, thinking of how embarrassing this was.
Patton giggled a bit. "Do you need help carrying that?"
"Please." Virgil sighed.
Patton took some of the shirts and other clothing items (were those fishnets?!) out of Virgil's hands.
"So, are you doing ok?" Patton asked.
"O-oh. Yeah, I'm ok. I'm just worried about...if Roman is. Like, what if he's mad at me? I bet thats what he and Logan are talking about right now-"
"Slow down, Virgil." Patton interrupted. "I'm sure they aren't, and I really doubt that Roman's mad at you. If he was mad, he seems like the type to show it."
"That's...probably right." Virgil mumbled.
"Just calm down a bit, and have some fun! You are having fun, aren't you?"
Virgil smiled lightly. "Yeah. I am."
Patton smiled too. "Then let's go have more fun!"
And with that, Patton grabbed Virgil's hand and dragged him to the next shelf, looking through more cute things.
Just like we used to - Creativitwins 🛡🗡
~~~
TW: Swearing
Word Count: 1851
A/N: I haven't seen many Creativitwin one shots so here's one I wrote with some fluffy platonic Dukexiety because they were definitely close friends once and I love their dynamic. That being said enjoy the story!
~ Bre
-------------
Remus blew the white strand of hair that had fallen on his face away. He looked around, pouted then sighed. There was nothing to do. Thomas was busy writing scripts for the newest Sanders Sides episodes so Roman was with him, and on a creative streak too, so it was safe to say that he would pretty occupied for the rest of the day.
'Hmm. Maybe I'll find someone in the common room,' Remus thought to himself. Surely there would be someone there that he could bother-I mean-talk to. As he walked over to the core sides' part of 'The Imagination', Remus noticed that the sun was shining brighter than usual. Thinking that it may be because of his brother, he smiled at the thought. Though he had been accepted as one of Thomas' sides, Remus' relationship with Roman was still a little strained and, though he had never openly admitted it, he wanted to desperately repair it with him, because he missed the times when they used to play together and fend off the imaginary demons and monsters that tried to threaten them. Still, Remus grinned subtly at the thought of his brother calling out random ideas and jumping out of joy at them... just like he always used to do.
When he opened the door, Remus found Virgil sitting cross-legged on the floor, tending to his hoodie.
"Oh, hi Re," he greeted as he looked up.
"Hi," Remus replied quietly. Virgil's eyebrows furrowed at the response. It was very out of character for Remus not to be so loud and flamboyant so hearing him speak like that immediately concerned him.
"Hey," Virgil said softly, standing up. "What's up?" Remus shook his head as he walked away to sit on the couch and Virgil followed him mutely. Instead of reclining back, the dark creative side leant forward, rested his elbows on his knees and stared at the carpet. Virgil said nothing and only stood there in front of him, waiting for his response. He knew Remus would tell him eventually but now he didn't need to be pestered about it; he just needed a few quiet seconds to gather his thoughts, and the anxious side understood that.
"I..." he said eventually. "I've just been... thinking."
"Thinking? About what?" Virgil asked, feeling an invisible wave of deja vu wash over him.
"Roman and I." Virgil's expression dropped and his eyes filled with pity. For years he had been silently watching the two brothers grow further and further apart and it honestly broke him to see their relationship become reduced to nothing. They had once been so close and practically inseparable, until one day, for some unknown reason, they stopped talking to each other. It was like seeing your two best friends become strangers over night, and no knew why. And whenever Virgil or any of the other sides had attempted to reunite them, or at least talk to each other again, both Roman and Remus resented the idea. They had just suddenly started hating each other... and no one knew why.
However, over the past couple of months, Remus started to warm up to the idea of making up with his brother. It was evident that he missed him dearly and he couldn't deny it any longer. He just... didn't know how to say it.
"Have you tried talking to him?" Virgil inquired after a few moments of silence. Remus laughed half-heartedly at the suggestion.
"You really think he's going to want to talk, or even listen to me after all this time?" he said, still looking at the floor. Seeing his friend like this disturbed Virgil, but not in a bad way. He hated seeing him like this and it was times like this that Virgil genuinely missed Remus' usual wacky-self.
"Don't tell him this," the anxious side started, sitting beside him. "But... Roman does talk about you too." Remus' eyes widened in surprise at this; he hadn't expected that at all. "A lot actually."
"Oh. I thought he hated me."
"No! Gosh no! Remus, Roman misses you just as much as you miss him," Virgil exclaimed, placing a comforting hand on Remus' back. "Do you know the number of nights he's spent complaining to me about how much he's been hating himself for pushing you away? Seriously it's been exhausting," Virgil sighed, leaning back on the sofa. Remus bit back a smile. "He really misses you Re. And he's been wanting to talk to you again for so long, but he doesn't, and I quote, 'know how to put it into words'. But secretly, I think he's waiting for you to say something. And I get that you've probably been waiting for him too but... someone's gotta make the first move." Remus bit his lip in thought as Virgil spoke. The idea of speaking to Roman again secretly terrified him. He didn't know how he would react, what he would say and most of all, he was scared that he might say something that would put an even bigger strain on their relationship, and that was the last thing he wanted. Remus was infamously known to be the side with no filter.
"How will I know what to say?" he questioned.
"You'll know, trust me," Virgil said and Remus nodded. "Hey, take it from me. I'm the most anxious side here and I managed to tell Roman how I feel," he joked, causing Remus to laugh. He smiled at his old friend warmly and pulled the emo into a tight hug. Virgil raised his eyebrows in surprise at this but soon hugged back.
"Thanks Virge," Remus said softly and Virgil smiled, knowing that he wouldn't see. "Just, one thing," he said again as he pulled away.
"Yeah?"
"About you and my brother." Virgil couldn't stop the blush creeping onto his cheeks. He cleared his throat and tried to compose himself, although he feared what would come next.
"...Yes?"
"You guys haven't fucked right-" There it was.
"REMUS!"

***

About two days after Remus and Virgil had had their conversation, Remus finally found his other half alone in The Imagination. He was sat under a tree humming quietly to himself with his eyes closed and letting the gentle breeze play with his chocolate brown hair. He looked so peaceful there alone that Remus almost turned away because he didn't want to disturb Roman, but it was now or never and he probably wouldn't get this opportunity again anytime soon. Hesitantly, he walked over to where the creative side was. Hearing the rustles in the grass, Roman opened his eyes and immediately stopped humming when he realised who was approaching him. He looked down quickly, trying to avoid eye contact and when Remus sat down by his side, he averted his gaze in the opposite direction. The two brothers sat in silence for a couple of minutes, both of them afraid of what to say, although one concealed it better than the other.
"Roman?" Remus finally said, but Roman continued to stare blankly into the distance even though his eyes weren't particularly focused on anything. "Roman. Roman please. Say something to me." Still, he got no reply. Looking up at the tree leaves above them, the duke remembered a fond memory. "This tree... it was our favourite one in The Imagination," he started as he looked to Roman hopefully for a reaction. Nevertheless, nothing. Roman refused to even look at him, yet Remus tried one last time. "I remember, I remember you accidentally pushed me off that branch once," he said as he pointed up into the luscious green leaves. "Then I brought you down with me. Patton had to bandage us up."
Realising that he was getting nowhere, Remus got up to leave, defeated and saddened. He was right. He should've just listened to himself. Of course Roman didn't want to speak with him. He should've just left him alone and save him all of this embarrassme-
"If I recall correctly," said a princely voice behind him, making Remus whip round instantly. "You pushed me off, and I yanked you down with me."
"What? No. I pulled you down, you-"
"No, no, no. You wanted to climb to the very top of the tree so I helped push you up but as we walked across the branch, you lost your balanced and out of instinct, you grabbed the thing nearest to you, which was my shirt, and pulled me down, causing me to fall with you," Roman replied firmly as he stood up with a smug smirk etched on his face. Remus laughed quietly and Roman smiled kindly, before placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. Then, the dark creative twin swallowed and took a breath before asking his question.
"Roman, we were so close. What happened?" Roman's face dropped. Turning away, he fidgeted with his hands before coming back to face his brother, whose face was plastered with sadness, and possibly even guilt. Roman had never seen him so vulnerable and he hated himself for it, knowing he was the reason for all the pain.
"I don't know. Suddenly one day, I woke up and something was telling me that I couldn't see you anymore. It was like I was scolding myself for being with you all the time. But now I've been scolding myself for not spending time with you," the prince laughed. "How ironic."
"Oh, yeah. I know," Remus said in his signature voice, lifting the mood a bit. Confused, Roman looked up.
"You know?"
"Yeah. Virgil told me. He told me not to tell you but I told you anyway," he cheekily grinned. Although he was quite annoyed with Virgil for allowing his brother to hear about sensitivity, Roman couldn't help but smile when he noticed Remus' old antics return to him. The way he talked, the way he moved, the way he thought; Remus really was the side with no filter.
"Oh I'm gonna murder him," Roman gritted through his teeth. Hearing this, Remus' face lit up.
"I'll gladly help!" the duke offered mischievously, pulling out his morning star from behind his back. The other brother took out his sword and smirked with a raised eyebrow. This was the first time they had both brought out their weapons together for fun and a tsunami of nostalgia hit both of them like a storm; they could tell by the looks on each other's faces that they really missed this. Sighing contently, Remus offered out his hand for Roman to shake.
"Brothers?" But instead, Roman dropped his sword and pulled Remus into the first hug they had had in 20 years.
"Brothers."

"Just...one more thing," Roman said as he pulled away and Remus continued grinning. "Don't actually hurt Virgil. You know how I feel about him."
"No promises," Remus replied with a wink. "And yeah I know exactly how you feel about him." His brother nodded happily, satisfied with the answer. But the moment didn't last.
"And how you felt him," the duke giggled as he ran off.
"Wait R-Remus what? WhAT? REMUS WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?"

Just a short chapter I wrote for new year.
CW: child abandonment, homelessness
Pairings: romantic/platonic DLAMP, romantic anxceit
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have a great day/night and I hope 2021 brings everyone better tidings <3
Masterpost
Janus ignored the urge to straighten his bowtie before walking up the small path that led to the house. As much as he wished he could make some final adjustments to his look, his hands were currently full, with flowers on one side and his cane on the other. He figured dropping either to fiddle with his bowtie would be a rather ridiculous look.
It would be fine, he told himself. It was just a small celebration at their house, it didn't matter how he looked. They loved him, they wouldn’t judge him.
And oh, those words. They loved him.
The thought made him simultaneously want to leap with happiness and run for the hills as fast as he could. It was so terrifyingly new and at the same time it felt so comfortably familiar. The phone calls that lasted way longer than they should. The bad days when all of them came over and baked him bread. The banter over the comms when he was too tired to join in on patrol. They loved him.
A raven haired head popping itself out the door distracted him from his brooding.
“Dude, are you just gonna spend the whole evening standing in our garden or are you gonna come in?” Virgil asked.
“I was just admiring the flowers,” Janus drawled.
Virgil raised a disbelieving eyebrow.
“Come in, everyone’s waiting for you.”
He stepped inside and handed Virgil the flowers.
“Aww, are those for us? How sweet,” Virgil cooed.
Janus definitely didn’t blush. “It’s polite.”
“It’s romantic,” Virgil teased.
“Virgil,” Janus sighed, trying to sound exasperated but only managing to sound fond.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. Come on, I need to start frying the gulab jamun.”
“You’re making gulab jamun?” Janus asked, pleasantly surprised. They were apparently a famed treat in this household.
“Yeah,” Virgil stopped when he walked into Roman.
“And now he shows up,” Virgil snarked “Here, go put these in a vase, I have dessert to attend to.” He shoved the flowers into Roman’s hands and quickly disappeared into the kitchen.
Roman beamed at Janus.
“Hello darling,” He purred “You look absolutely stunning.”
“You are not allowed to use that nickname, it’s mine, I licensed it,” Janus protested.
“Oh, but I just love the way it flusters you, darling.”
Janus could feel the heat creeping all the way from under his collar up to his cheeks. Roman was definitely getting back at him for all the times Janus had flustered him in costume.
“Roman, stop,” Janus sighed as he gently pushed his shoulder.
Roman just chuckled and led him into the living room, where Logan was arranging some snacks.
“Guess who arrived!” Roman announced to the entire house.
Logan looked over and smiled brightly.
“Hello Janus, you look good.”
“As do you,” Janus complimented as he walked over to shake his hand. Logan ignored the proffered hand and pulled him into a hug.
Well, okay. He hadn’t seen that one coming.
Of all four of them, Logan was the least keen on physical contact. Patton and Roman were always going in for surprise hugs and even Virgil would frequently rest his head on Janus’s shoulder. But Janus had only ever seen Logan hug his boyfriends. And that one memorable time when Janus had nearly drowned and Logan had cuddled him to keep him warm, but he really prefered not to think about that.
“Will you be joining us for patrol?” Logan asked when he pulled away.
“No, not today.” Janus lifted his cane a bit to illustrate his point.
Logan nodded understandingly. “We’ll be happy to have you on comms for tonight.”
Janus made his way into the kitchen, where Patton was sliding something into the oven as Roman bothered him.
“You can’t bake something at 1800 degrees, Roman, that’s not how baking works.” Patton sighed. He noticed Janus entering the kitchen and beamed at him.
“Dee!” Patton smiled at him. “I’m so happy you’re here. Food’s nearly ready. ”
“Why not? 10 minutes at 180 degrees equals 1 minute at 1800 degrees. That’s how math works.” Roman interjected.
“Well, it’s not how ovens work,” Virgil groaned, from where he was bent over the frying pan, a little closer to the hot oil than was probably safe.
“If you guys would just listen to me, food would be ready in a minute,” Roman sighed.
“Virgil’s right, sweetie, that’s not how ovens work,” Patton said.
Virgil stuck his tongue out.
“Very mature,” Janus laughed.
Eventually, when all the food had been baked at an acceptable temperature, they gathered around the table.
“So, does anyone have any new year’s resolutions?” Patton asked them.
“New year’s resolutions are just a festive way of lying to yourself. Nobody actually keeps them,” Janus said.
“See! He gets it,” Virgil said triumphantly.
“Come on,” Patton pleaded, “humour me.”
Virgil sighed and rolled his eyes, but Janus could see the fondness in them.
“Well, my new year’s resolution is to take more time to read books I’ve been meaning to read. I have a whole pile of interesting paperbacks,” Logan went first.
“Of course you would choose something so nerdy,” Roman teased, “My resolution is to spend as much time as possible with you, my loves,” He swept a grand gesture over the room and Janus tried not to think about how he was somehow included in that, “and I vow to give you all the kisses and hugs you deserve.”
“Well, next year I resolve to make better bad decisions and to remember to write 2021 instead of 2020,” Patton chimed in with a bright smile, “but in all seriousness, I hope to spend more time writing next year and maybe sign up for some art classes.”
“That’s a great idea, Pat, I might join you for those,” Virgil said.
“See, now you have some new year’s resolutions too.”
“What about you, Janus?” Logan questioned.
“Well, I guess if I have to, I resolve not to kill as many people this year,” He answered sarcastically.
Patton shot him a look. “Try again.”
“Fine,” Janus sighed, “I resolve to read more books, I guess.”
“Splendid resolutions, my dear lord of the lies,” Roman praised.
“Are we going to eat now? We have to patrol in a few hours,” Virgil complained.
“As always, you really have your priorities sorted, Virgil,” Logan said teasingly.
Logan shrugged himself into his costume with precise movements and fastened the cloak at his neck.
“You know, I really don’t get the cloak. Isn’t it awfully impractical?” Janus asked him from where he was draped against the door frame.
“Maybe, but I distinctly remember it coming in handy when you nearly died of hypothermia. How would people say it? It saved you ass?” Logan answered smugly.
“That was one time, you can’t tell me you wear a ridiculous cape,”
“Cloak.”
“Whatever, because someone might fall into the harbour. How often does that even happen?”
“More than you’d think. Also, Batman wears a cloak.”
“Batman is designed by nerds who don’t even know how to throw a punch, it’s a wonder you haven’t tripped over it yet when vaulting over rooftops.”
“Unlike some people who don’t need a cloak to trip when vaulting over rooftops?” Logan asked, voice full of faux innocence.
Janus growled exasperatedly and punched his arm, in the friendly way.
“As much as I love hearing you two bicker, we do need to start patrol,” Roman interrupted.
“Bye, Dee!” Patton hugged him and gave him a quick kiss on the nose before bustling out the door.
Roman and Logan followed in quick succession, pressing kisses to his cheek and forehead. They sauntered out of the room, leaving him reeling with the ease they had done that.
Virgil smirked up at him from where he was sitting at the computer, looking over some police reports.
“What?” Janus asked him.
“Nothing,” Virgil replied with a shit eating grin, “You just look awfully cute when you blush.”
“I’m not cute,” Janus snarled.
“Whatever you say,” Virgil replied as he walked past him. He stopped for a moment, staring into Janus’s eyes. His look didn’t bode well for Janus. He placed a gentle hand on the back of Janus’s neck and then pulled him close.
“Is this okay?” He asked, his eyes drifting to Janus’s lips.
“Very,” Janus managed, his voice a little rough.
Virgil leaned forward and pressed a soft but insistent kiss on his lips. Janus felt himself leaning into it, the sweet taste of honey and saffron overwhelming his senses.
After what felt like a mere fraction of a second, Virgil pulled away. Janus made a small noise of protest and Virgil chuckled.
“Later,” He promised, “I have to go patrol now.”
He walked out the room, leaving Janus feeling lightheaded and wondering if the others were as good at kissing as Virgil. He sincerely hoped so.
~
Patrol was surprisingly uneventful. Generally, the statistics indicated there was a rise in crime around the holiday period. New year itself was always quite a hazardous day, with the large crowd of people out at late hours and the fireworks masking any sounds that could give you away.
Yet this year, Logan had found himself inexplicably looking out to the new year. Maybe it was the fact that a certain former villain had enthusiastically agreed to come over and celebrate.
Whatever the reason, the city had decided to grace them with a calm night and Logan sat on a rooftop ledge, watching Virgil teach Patton a back handspring on the adjoining rooftop.
“Can you do one of those?” Janus asked him over the comms as they watched Patton fall onto his back for the third time.
“They’re not too hard.”
“That doesn’t answer the question, nerd,” Roman chimed into the conversation from where he was checking out an alleyway somewhere.
“I’m sure I could manage it,” Logan sighed.
“Like Patton’s managing this one?” Virgil quipped as Patton landed on the ground once more. Logan was incredibly grateful for the shock absorbent breastplate he wore.
“I nearly got that one!”
“Sure, pat.”
“Shit,” He heard Roman hiss through the comms.
“What?” Janus’s voice was immediately on edge and Logan heard the familiar clicking of keys, telling him Janus was probably pulling up the live feed from Roman’s mask.
“Oh,” He said.
“What’s going on?” Patton asked, righting himself from the wet rooftop.
“A kid,” Roman gasped.
Logan felt his heart clench.
“Is he hurt?” Virgil asked.
“No, not as far as we can see, but he does look malnourished,” Janus explained.
Logan got up and quickly swung down from the rooftop, the others right behind him.
They entered the alleyway, where Roman was crouched in the corner, whispering quietly.
He looked up and gestured for them to stay back. They obliged, Patton sitting down against a wall as Virgil walked a bit further back to make sure no one would enter the small street.
Logan leant against a dumpster bin, trying not to look too threatening.
“It’s alright, we won’t hurt you. Could you just tell me your name?” Roman asked gently.
“My mom told me never to give a stranger my name,” The kid deadpanned.
Logan smiled, if the kid was quipping back, he couldn’t be in too bad a shape.
“Touché” Roman chuckled, “you can call me prince.”
“Like the singer?” The kid asked with an audible chuckle.
“No,” Roman sighed and Logan heard Patton giggle.
“Well, you probably should have chosen a better name then.”
“Probably,” Roman said, “At least give me something I can call you, if you’re not gonna tell me your name.”
The kid thought for a moment. “Fine,” he drawled, “You can call me J.”
“Ok, well J, that corner doesn’t look all that comfortable, if you would come with us, I’m sure we could find you more suitable lodgings.”
“No!” J snapped, fear colouring his voice.
“Why not?” Roman asked, clearly taken aback.
“You’ll just stick me in the system and... they don’t want me there.” J choked up a bit and Logan saw Patton’s eyes fill with sympathy.
“No, we won’t,” Roman promised.
“Oh yeah? What’re you gonna do with me then? Nobody wants some abandoned street rat.” J sighed bitterly. Logan ached at how he seemed to have given up any hope of someone caring for him. The poor kid had clearly been through too much in his life.
“Do you really have no one left?” Roman asked.
“Do you think I’d be sleeping on the streets if someone still cared about me?”
Roman looked back at them helplessly.
“Isn’t there anywhere he could stay on short notice?” Virgil asked.
“I have people,” Janus interjected quietly.
“Dee, no!” Patton exclaimed, “we’re not going to drop some kid off with those thugs you work with.”
“Not like that,” Janus sighed and Logan could almost see him pinching the bridge of his nose, “I know someone who works for me who’s really good with kids. He and his partner have fostered kids before. I think they could help him.”
“Really? You think he’d just be okay with it if we rolled up with a kid?”
“I’d have to discuss it with him first, but I’m certain we can find a home for J, if not with this guy, we’ll definitely find someone else.”
“I could ask my moms,” Patton conceded,” I don’t think they’re up for another kid, but they might know someone who wants to take care of him.”
“And what for tonight? We can’t really show up at someone’s house and just drop him off.” Virgil said.
“Take him to our home,” Logan suggested.
“Are you crazy? That’s a huge security risk,” Virgil burst out.
“We can’t just leave him in the cold to freeze,” Patton protested.
“I have a safe house near where you are, just take him there,” Janus interjected.
“Is that settled then?” Roman asked them from where he was still crouched in the corner, the annoyance clear in his voice.
“Yeah, I think so,” Patton replied.
“Okay kid, let's get moving. We’re taking you to a safehouse near here,” Roman told him.
“Did you explain everything to him?” Logan asked, he really hadn’t heard Roman say anything.
“Of course, you guys were too busy bickering to notice.”
J still regarded them warily and Logan was vaguely worried he was going to bolt the moment they got out of the alleyway.
“Hey,” Logan said, trying not to sound too awkward, “we’re not just going to abandon you to the system. We're heroes and that means we’ll find a way to help anyone.”
J just looked up at him with an unimpressed expression. “Right.” He shouldered past Logan, heading to where Virgil was waiting.
Patton quickly caught up to them, probably because Virgil was looking at the kid like he wanted to flee to the nearest rooftop.
“So you’re really not gonna tell us your name?”
“No.”
“You guys want me to head to the safe house too?” Janus asked, ignoring their chatter.
“We’d love that,” Roman beamed, “We might even be just in time for the new year.”
They got J settled on the ratty couch in the squalid safe house. It wasn’t a terrible safe house, it was actually quite clean. It just clearly wasn’t used for much except the occasional emergency.
Janus arrived quickly, dropping a bag filled with what Logan presumed was food.
J froze when he saw Janus. “Deceit?” He asked and Logan felt his stomach plummet. Of course the kid would be afraid, they had trapped him in a small space together with the city’s most notorious crime lord. It didn’t matter that Janus had never and would never harm a child, his reputation was terrifying enough.
But inexplicably, the kid’s shoulders relaxed and he seemed moderately more at ease.
“You know, most people don’t look so at ease in my presence,” Janus said, clearly also puzzled by the reaction.
J shrugged. “You’re not that bad, you’ve helped a lot of my friends, gave them jobs and places to stay. You do more for the street kids of this city than these heroes.”
Roman gasped in mock offence. Logan shrugged. It made sense, they didn’t have the resources or connections to help kids like J, but Janus had been putting an effort into helping the worst off in their city for years. It seemed his efforts hadn’t gone as unnoticed as they had previously assumed.
Janus grinned at them, his expression smug and then grabbed something from the bag.
“Here,” He held out a soft sweater, “this is for you, it would be a shame if we went through all the trouble of getting you here and then you died from hypothermia.”
“You could just invest in a space heater for this place,” Virgil complained.
“Sure, because this space is used so often. It definitely isn’t a waste of money to purchase heaters for all those safe houses I barely use,” Janus snarked.
J ignored their bickering and sauntered over to the window, pulling the sweater over his head.
“Hey, guys,” Patton interrupted, “I think it’s time.”
Logan looked at the time on the corner of his display. He was right, the clock told him there was only one minute left of this year.
They all gathered round the window, looking out over the city.
“To new beginnings,” Patton announced.
“To new beginnings,” They all replied. J just rolled his eyes.
Logan felt Patton clutch his arm and Janus loop an arm around his waist as bright fireworks exploded over the city skyline. He looked over at his friends, how they stood gathered together, their faces awash with the colours of the fireworks.
And he looked at J, the young kid who was staring at the fireworks as if they were something magical, his hands tangled in the sleeves of his sweater.
Logan promised himself he would do everything to get him a good home, he deserved so much more than the world had given him.
New beginnings, it was a fitting sentiment.

Centaur AU 5
To say Thomas worried the rest of the day would be an understatement. He tried to keep it to himself, but it must have been palpable, since Roman came into the stable bright and happy, and his smile dropped immediately. His eyes went wide, clearly sending messages to the others, but he didn’t say a word until his jockey was gone.
“What happened?!”
“It’s not that much to be concerned about,” Logan said. “My legs are hurting, nothing more.”
“The vet has been called at least!” Roman said, a flash of anger in his eyes. “If—“ his words fizzled out as he turned to see Thomas.
“No, no, Thomas called the vet. She’s coming tonight to help,” Patton said, his tone calming.
“Well,” Roman looked like the wind had been taken out of him. “Good.”
And that somehow reminded Thomas. The very visit probably wouldn’t be over in a few minutes, he would be late to get home again. He was now Extremely glad he’d gotten a cell phone for Remy. Perhaps after a month or so he could afford one for Emile too.
He went to the phone, ignoring the quiet talking from the others.
Remy didn’t pick up right away, and Thomas called a second time.
“Look, I don’t know who you are—“
“Remy, it’s Thomas.”
“Oh. Sorry, this is a weird number. Wait—- don’t tell me you got lost this time!” Remy laughed. “Emile! You’ve got to hear this!”
“No, no, Remy, I’m not lost, I’m still at work. I just called to say I’ll probably have to stay late again.”
There was a vague, displeased grunt. “What, overtime twice in a row? You did negotiate for overtime pay, right?”
Thomas sighed. “No, I’m not sure I’m even getting paid at all for it.”
“What?!” Remy yelled. “Thomas, you are A Doormat!” The sound went a little fainter. “Emile, tell him! He’s not even getting paid for staying late!”
“Really, Thomas, you do need to stand up for yourself in terms of fair payment,” Emile said.
Thomas chuckled slightly, sighing. “I know. I really do. This is just more important than that. I’ll explain when I get home, and I’ll even try to figure out a way to renegotiate.”
“We’ll hold you to that,” Remy promised.
“Be safe and reasonable,” Emile said. “If you get very tired, it may be better to quit before your task is complete or to stay the night there.”
“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind,” Thomas said. “Love you guys.”
“Yeah, yeah, all the mushy ‘we love you too’,” Remy said distantly before hanging up.
Thomas smiled a bit. He really missed them, even though it’d only been a few days, they seemed really long.
And then he heard a car stop and a door shut. Hopefully that was the vet.
He turned to offer his most reassuring smile to the centaurs before going out to meet her.
“Oh, hello, are you Thomas?”
“I am, yes, and I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name.”
“Dr. Avery. Would you help me carry some things?”
“Of course.”
“I’m not surprised something finally happened,” Dr. Avery said, her tone rather annoyed. “I’ve been saying all you recent grooms are lazy and uneducated.”
Thomas tried not to take offense, but really, he was undereducated. He hadn’t had barely an idea of what to do.
“For a centaur like that one you need to be applying liniment all the time, and keep support for his legs between, and he really ought not to be sleeping standing.”
Thomas nodded, extremely glad for the information, though a part of him grated against the tone it was delivered in.
“And he really needs some kinds of exercise other than those competitions. Without the variety, eventually he’ll be unable to do anything else. Maybe it’s even too late already.”
Thomas nodded again.
They entered the stable, and the silence was almost oppressive. All four centaurs stared intently at them, very still, and not making a single sound, not even in response to Thomas’s small smile.
Dr. Avery went right into Logan’s stall, and he narrowed his eyes at her slightly before moving into the middle of the stall, crossing his arms and staring firmly at the wall. It somehow cut into Thomas to see it. As if the vet visiting was something that had happened long ago, and ended very unpleasantly, and this was some sort of unpleasant truce. But he didn’t know what to do about it. He, they all needed a vet, and he strongly doubted he would be able to call his vet. There would be so much paperwork, even just to begin, and Logan was hurt now. Not to mention that the owners might well hate the idea of switching vets.
Dr. Avery unwrapped Logan’s legs and ran her hands carefully over them, making small displeased noises as she found… whatever she was finding.
“Thomas, go out to my truck, there’s a portable x-ray machine. Bring it here.”
Thomas ran to obey quickly.
The vet examined each of Logan’s legs very carefully, and then studied the x-rays, frowning intently, but not saying much. Thomas felt like his breath was held the entire time, waiting on the professional judgement.
“Well, first of all,” she said, still staring at the papers.
Thomas nodded quickly. “Yes?”
“This is going to be expensive to treat,” she said, her tone sour. “There are a number of faint cracks in the cannon bones. I’m quite frankly shocked he hasn’t broken his legs. He needs to stay off his feet as much as possible, and his legs need support, as well as dietary supplements to build up the bones again. He will not be able to participate in any of those competitions whatsoever for 12 weeks at the very least.”
Thomas nodded firmly. He was sure… well, he was desperately hopeful that the Authiers would pay for it.
“But on top of that the mental aspect cannot be discounted. I’ve known this centaur for quite a few years. It will be a long, and painful recovery, if it’s handled just right. I don’t think he’ll pull through it. Centaurs are finicky like that once injured.”
Thomas felt as though she’d managed to slap them all in the face, and Logan at least twice. He wasn’t sure if he was more shocked or angry.
“Add all that to the likelihood that he won’t be able to do many competitions afterwards even if he did somehow pull through it, and from the inactivity his muscles will be atrophied, he won’t be the same for… perhaps six months or more. I don’t know that you’ll, or rather, that the Authiers would find it worthwhile to keep him around anymore.”
Thomas felt like he might fall over. His voice came out squeaky and faint. “Are-- are you seriously suggesting that---”
“Putting him down. Yes.”
There was a choked sound from Patton, who looked both absolutely terrified and like he might throw up. Thomas wondered if he looked the same way. There was suddenly a scream.
“NO!” Virgil had reared up and kicked the door, hard.
Dr. Avery paled. “Why is he loose like that?! That is a violent centaur!”
Thomas, in what was probably a powerful move Emile would berate him for later, managed to shove everything down all at once and put on a conciliatory smile.
“Thank you so much for coming. I will talk to the Authiers, and call you again with their decision. If you leave, it will be easier to get him under control again.”
Virgil was still screaming, the sound more animal than human, and the stall door would not hold much longer.
“That’s at least a three man job! I’ll get the tranquilizers.”
“No.” Thomas said firmly. “Please leave. Now.”
Dr. Avery shook her head like he was crazy, but grabbed her stuff and left.
Thomas shut the stable door, and then heard a cracking of wood. In seconds Virgil was in front of him, rearing up threateningly. If he hadn’t already so far detached himself from the situation, Thomas might have screamed. And then he would have most assuredly died. But he didn’t, he raised his hands slowly and silently in surrender.
“You won’t touch him!” Virgil screamed.
“Virgil, please. I swear to you I will never let anything like that happen to Logan. I swear. I will do everything I possibly can, and if that doesn’t work I’d kidnap him before I let someone kill him. I promise Virgil, everything I can, I will do to make him safe. I promise. Please. Please walk back to your stall. Or to Logan’s. I’m sure he would appreciate you with him.”
It was as if dark clouds started to be blown away as Virgil stood down, taking a step back and turning to look at Logan.
Thomas collapsed to his knees, suddenly sobbing.
Something was going on, but he didn’t know what, only that his breath was coming short and he couldn’t stop himself, nearly curled up in a ball, heavy sobs wracking his body. And then strong arms picking him up and holding him in a hug.
“It’s alright. Everyone’s safe for now.” Someone said. “You did the best you could.”
Thomas tried hard to stop crying. He needed to be the strong one. He needed to fix everything. “I’m so-sorry, I’m trying.”
“It’s alright. We’re all alright for now. Let it out now.”
Thomas slowly managed to regain some kind of composure, and realized that Roman was holding him, knelt down on the floor with him.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened. You- you shouldn’t have to--”
He was cut off and surprised by Roman squeezing him in a tight hug. “Thomas, you’re giving us the best you have. Thank you. It’s enough.”
And somehow that made him want to cry all over again. Not the same desperate sobs, but it still made him sniff, and quite a few more tears ran down his face. “Thank you, Roman.”
“I’m sorry,” Virgil said, his voice quiet and low. “Did-- did you mean what you said?”
Thomas nodded firmly. “I’ll never just stand by while they kill someone. Especially not for being hurt.”
Patton burst into tears, which, judging by his wet face, were not the first by far.
“Is Logan ok?” Thomas asked.
Virgil looked up at Logan’s face, which he could see from his place snugged up against his side. “He’s out.”
It took Thomas a second while his brain screamed ‘he passed out???’ to realize Virgil probably meant he was heavily dissociated. Thomas couldn’t blame him. But… this was probably what the vet meant about centaur’s and their minds once they got injured. It wasn’t their fault, it was a whole life long of trauma. But for Logan to get well again he would have to be present.
But not yet. He deserved to calmly make his way back. He deserved… anything, after being talked about like that. Someone literally threatened to kill him while he stood there listening! Thomas felt anger rising up in him, bringing with it a rush of heat and energy. He was calling the Authiers. And he was not taking no for an answer.
He took the phone with him into the closet, where he couldn’t be so easily overheard. None of them deserved any more bad news.
“Hello?” A familiar voice asked, with loud music in the background. It was the woman who had hired him, and he felt bad to say, he didn’t remember her first name.
“Hello, Mrs. Authier, it’s Thomas Sanders.”
“Oh, Thomas! Do you need something?”
He was going to have to phrase this right if he had much hope. “I’ve been looking into the things that the other grooms did, and I’ve found several problems.”
“Uh huh. Well give me the quick version, I’m a bit busy.”
Thomas took a deep breath. “One of the centaurs needs medical care, and I need more time here. I’d like to be hired full-time, and be able to bring things over here to stay.”
“Oh, that was excellently quick. Is that everything?”
“Um, yes?”
“Great. I’ll give you an empty check for the medical care, and send my lawyer to talk with you in the morning about rearranging the schedule. Are we good now?”
“I… yes. I think so.”
“Great! There’s a party up at the main house, and it’ll go most of the night if you want to join.”
“Uh, thank you.”
“Call anytime, you’re a good summarizer!”
And then she hung up. Thomas was dumbfounded. It was entirely not how he’d expected it to go at all. He was wondering more and more what kind of crazy people he was working for.
He called Dr. Avery, and went to voicemail, which he preferred quite a bit. “Mrs. Authier approved the medical treatment. If you can come in the morning and give me care instructions, I’ll do my best to be sure they’re followed.”
And then Thomas let out a long, relieved sigh. He came out of the closet to many tense faces.
“She said yes. We’re going to treat Logan, and help him the best we can.”
Roman and Virgil sighed in relief, and Patton nearly cried again. “Oh, thank goodness!”
“And,” Thomas said, and suddenly had all eyes fixed on him again. “I think, I might be moving to stay here. Would that be alright with you guys?”
There was a strange silence.
“Well, what we think about it wouldn’t really change anything,” Roman said.
“Of course we’d love to have you!” Patton said, overlapping Roman’s words.
Thomas nodded solemnly. He could understand if they didn’t want him here. They barely knew him, and it’d take away the privacy they had at nighttime.
“Well, for tonight then, I need to wrap up Logan’s legs again, and probably after all that mess Virgil at least could use a brushing down. Would that be alright?”
Thomas looked mostly at Virgil, who nodded, but reluctantly, and didn’t meet his gaze.
And Thomas had to admit, even with the exhausted numbness settling over him, he was scared to be between Logan and Virgil, even though he knew, and they knew too, that he was only trying to help. Logan was still almost frozen, a glazed look in his eyes as he turned lazily to watch Thomas.
Thomas ran a hand gently over Logan’s flank, and over again. He didn’t know if Logan would appreciate petting or if he’d be annoyed or insulted by it. He just wanted to find some way to help, and to perhaps comfort and reassure a bit.
“I’m really sorry. If I’d known what she was going to say I would’ve had her outside to talk.”
Logan didn’t respond at all.
Thomas tried giving a rather wry smile, but it fell a bit flat.
“If you’d come out of this stall, Virgil, it’d be easier for me to brush you,” Thomas said, turning and going back to the closet to get a curry comb.
Virgil was standing in his own stall when Thomas came back out, and he was standing stiffly, his eyes darting around a bit, though he turned his head away to make it less obvious. Thomas wasn’t sure what was wrong, but he didn’t blame him. He felt antsy and jittery himself, and just wanted to get done and get home.
But as he entered the stall Virgil stepped away from him. “I’m sorry. F-for earlier. I-I didn’t mean to—“
“It’s alright,” Thomas said, raising the brush. “Just stand still now and we’ll be good.”
Virgil flinched back and away, holding his arms close to his chest, a wide-eyed scared look on his face. It finally registered to Thomas that something more was wrong than just fading adrenaline.
“Virgil, I’m tired and kinda crashing, it’s making me kind of dumb, and I’m gonna need you to communicate here with me, ok? What’s wrong?”
Virgil’s eyes flicked to the curry comb, but he didn’t say anything. A tremor started and ran over his body.
Patton came to the rescue, leaning over the walls.
“Virgil doesn’t like that brush.”
Thomas frowned down at the innocent curry comb. “It’s no worse than any other brush, Virgil.”
“It hurts! Especially when you’re mad or tired.” Virgil blurted out, shutting his mouth immediately after as if he’d said something bad.
The only way this kind of brush would hurt was if it was practically slapped against…. who was Thomas kidding, with the rampant abuse, it was incredibly likely that exactly that had happened.
“It wouldn’t hurt if it’s done properly,” Thomas promised. “Would you let me try? If it hurts you I promise I’ll go back and get your favorite one instead.”
“You promise?”
Thomas nodded firmly. “I promise.”
Virgil shook his head, a tremor running down his whole body. “Promises break.”
Thomas thought about it for a minute, and then went out and grabbed a lead rope, tying one end around his wrist.
“Do you trust Patton? The whole time I’m brushing you he can hold the other end of this rope, and the instant it hurts you he can pull my hand back.”
Virgil looked to Patton, who seemed more than a little nervous about the idea, but still nodded and accepted the end of the rope.
“O-ok.”
Thomas gently set the brush against Virgil’s side, waiting for the flinch and shiver to die down a little before he moved the brush at all. Virgil was all covered in sweat, and Thomas tried to move just right to get it off without moving too quickly and startling him.
He was a little surprised, but also a little not, that by the time he’d finished one side Virgil was relaxing into it. It must feel good to finally reach through all the hair and get properly brushed, and to get really clean.
He’d just wanted to get home a bit ago, but this was more important. It wasn’t just brushing down a centaur, it was getting Virgil to trust him, to trust brushes. It was healthy for Virgil’s coat too. And probably it was helping relax a lot of stressors for him. He needed it, far more that Thomas needed to get home. So he took his time, did it the best way, which also happened to take a long time.
And once he was done Virgil was so relaxed his eyes were drifting shut.
“There. You did very well, Virgil. And thank you for helping, Patton.”
Patton smiled and yawned. “You’re welcome, Thomas.”
“I’ll probably head home now. Is there anything else any of you need?”
“It’s nearly midnight,” Logan said, startling Thomas by speaking.
“Yes?”
Logan just gave a small nod, as if that meant something to him. “Thank you.”
Thomas nodded. “You’re welcome.”
He closed stall doors and turned off all the lights but one, finally leaving. When he got home, for some reason, he didn’t go into the house, he went into the stable. Only barely awake, he dropped onto the hay next to where Emile was stretched out, laying prone.
“Thomas?”
Thomas gave a weak grunt in acknowledgement before falling asleep.

I just woke up from a dream and I'm not happy. You know as well as I do that you cannot mix my husband and a social situation, it's not a good thing , it's gonna end in disaster. It did here too.
In my dream I had to leave a social occasion (which I do believe was some kind of vlogger/ film festival) because I had an emergency, and promised to be right back as soon as I could.
Upon returning a few dream hours later darling husband was nowhere to be seen, one darling brother-in-law was trying to fix someone's broken tripod (yes I'm looking at you, Virgil) another was in the middle of an interview (seriously Gordon?) and another was standing off to the side, glaring.
I went over to see why said darling brother-in-law/best friend was glaring and to ask where the darling husband was.
Me: Why are you pissy? And Where's John?
Scott : Shit, you're back!
Me: That's a suspicious greeting right there. Why shouldn't I be back?
Scott : *shiftily * No reason
Me: *narrows eyes* Where's John?
Scott : Why don't we go and get a drink? Cat, shall we get a drink with Sel?
Me: I don't want a drink and I don't trust you. What's going on? Did something happen?
Scott : No…
Me: *hands on hips* Spill it!
Scott : One of his old college buddies is here, they are covering the event for a magazine.
Me: What's the problem with that? *shifty Scott is a thing again* Where is he?
Scott : You don't wanna go ov-
Me: *death stare*
Scott : *wilts and points*
Me: *stomps over to see some blonde hussy in a halter top straining over obviously enhanced jugs, snuggle so close to my man she's practically straddling him and she's taking pictures and selfies, he is doing absolutely nothing about it because this appears to be his college buddy.
Me: *glare goes nuclear as it targets this bleached interloper before I force a sweet smile on my face and turn to darling husband: Hi, can you possibly spare me a moment? *me, sarcastic and passive aggressive? Never!*
Her, the bleached one with the boobs: Do you mind? We're trying to have a private conversation here, neither of us have any time to deal with fans. Honestly, we can't enjoy ourselves anywhere these days.
John: No, it's OK this-
B+B(bleach and boobs) : No, you're off duty, don't let them pressure you into giving them time by making you feel guilty, you don't owe them anything.
Me: I think you're misunderstanding, I'm not looking for a-
B+B: No, you're misunderstanding, can't you see that we're busy and that you need to go away? *drops a possessive, red clawed hand on his shoulder and leans closer.*
John: *clearly stuck between not wanting to offend his friend but also waiting for me to explode and take her down. He gets the one eyebrow raise of impending doom warning* Maddie, its fine, this is-
B+B: *puts a finger to his lips to silence him then glares at me* You're interrupting, go away.
Me: *dream me is apparently a lot more chilled than awake me, because dream me just snaps out* Fine, I guess I'll leave you alone then.
Me: *stomps off* I need a freaking drink!
Cat: *hurries over * Did you kill her? Did you save him?
Me: *glances over at the clinging vine my not-so-darling husband seems to have acquired* Let him perish. I'm getting a drink, are you in or out?
Cat: In! *trots after me*
Me: *is searching out one, very specific drink* ha! Got it. *enters the bar and orders a blue and red mix vodka slushie (I don't even know if this is a thing in the real world but it soooo should be)*
Cat: *is not brave enough to order the same, gets a vodka and diet coke, the wimp*
Me: *gulps down three large slurps on my straw, immediately gets brain freeze, isn't sure if that's preferable really*
Cat: *leaving me to it to scroll on her phone*
Me: *brain slightly defrosted* So, who's the bitch?
Cat: Madeline Carmichael-Parks (dream me makes up the best names apparently) went to college with Penny and John.
Me: *huffs at her stupid name* I don't trust people with two names.
Cat: Creighton-ward?
Me: *scowls* she's on the list of people I'm keeping my eye on (I have no idea what I'm talking about here)
Cat: I won't tell her you said tha- oh…
Me: *instantly suspicious* Oh, what?
Cat: Nothing *tries to hide her phone*
Me: Spill it!
Cat: *sighs and turns her phone to show Instagram and the bleached with boobs trollop snuggled faaarrrr too closely to my never-going-to-be-darling-again husband. The caption reads "My gorgeous date and I are enjoying ourselves at the vloggies" Urge to kill, rising*
Me: Right.
Cat: I'm sure it's nothing, you know it's noth-
Ted flap further down the bar opens, a familiar redhead ducks in, I immediately grab my drink and leave. Not in the mood for this shit apparently. I stomp my way down the street, weaving between festival goers. I have no idea if I left Cat behind, if she's following, if she got caught by said redhead, it's every woman for herself right now.
Random Brunette: Hey, sweetie, you OK?
Me: Yep
Random redhead friend : You don't look it.
Me: I'm fine. I just came back to find my husband being groped by another woman.
Girls gasp: He's cheating on you?!
Me: *snorts and slurps rapidly melting drink* Nah, he'd never do that, and my best friend would never allow it even if he wanted to, which he wouldn't.
Girls: *stunned silence, clearly confused*
Me: *sucks madly on the straw* She was all over him, I was polite, she wasn't. Girl code.
Girls: *both nod, totally understanding*
Me: He didn't stop her, so now I'm pissed at him.
Girls: *nod again*
Me: Then she shared a selfie and called him her date.
Girls: *gasps all round*
Me: It was leave to get a drink or murder, those were my choices.
Girls: *sees empty drink in my hand*
Me: I did not choose death this day. *finds drink empty, knows it's probably not safe to go back for another, pouts mildly for a second before deciding a slice of pizza might be better* Yeah, I'm off, later ladies.
Girls wave goodbye. I continue my stomping towards a pizza stall ( there seems to be a lot of food in this dream, maybe I was hungry).
Arms grab me from behind. I scream. Three dudes turn around to see if I'm OK.
John: *patiently* Stop screaming, Sel.
Me: No. *screams again just to be petulant*
Dude 1: Is this guy bothering you?
Me: Yes, he's my husband and he's an idiot who is trying to be cute and adorable when I'm angry at him.
John: *snigger quietly, which was a bad move.*
Dude 2: Want me to kick his ass?
Me: No, I can do that myself.
John : *clearly rolling his eyes behind my back* Whatever you're thinking happened you know it didn't.
Dude Three: *cracks knuckles*
Me: So I didn't see some blown up Barbie hanging all over you, being rude to me and claiming you as her own?
Dudes: *all wince and suck air through their teeth in sympathy, for who I don't know.*
John: I tried to tell her I was married but she never listens and-
Dude Three: Not helping yourself here, my man.
Dude Two: You don't admit to cheating, that's just stupid.
Me: *suddenly defensive of dumbass husband * Hey! Who said anything about cheating? He'd never do that, I was pissed off that a socialite with the IQ of a bean sprout judged me and dismissed me away from my own husband and this idiot did sod all about it.
John : I was about to, but you always tell me you can fight your own battles and I didn't want to undermine you. *hugs me tighter because he totally knows he's getting away with this. Unfortunately I know it too.*
Me: *smacks at his hand* Go away, I'm mad at you and I'm staying mad.
John : No you're not *kisses my neck*
Me: Yes I am. *promptly forces myself to wake up because I I'm that damned stubborn and I will have the last word *
I woke up to dumbass husband snuggled up to my back, snoring lightly in my ear, all innocent and unaware of just what his dream self was putting me through. How dare he!
So I got out of bed and stole his dressing gown, went to the kitchen and bitched to Virgil about my dream. He was very unsympathetic quite honestly and undeserving of the coffee I made him.
John woke up an hour later but I'm still not talking to him. He has no idea what he's done.
Virgil told him he pissed me off in my dream and John just looked at me with a very judging look in his eyes like I was totally mad.
I'm still waiting for an apology…

Just like we used to - Creativitwins
TW: Swearing
Word Count: 1851
A/N:
I haven't seen many Creativitwin one shots so here's one I wrote with some fluffy platonic Dukexiety because they were definitely close friends once and I love their dynamic. That being said enjoy the story!
~ Bre
------
Remus blew the white strand of hair that had fallen on his face away.

______________________________
Standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom affirmed his horrible, horrible decision. This was awful, why had he done this? His hair looked awful, his clothes felt entirely wrong, and he felt absolutely disgusting.
A good long look at the mirror did nothing to change the light blue denim jacket, white t-shirt, and dark gray pants he was wearing right now. It definitely didn’t help that his hips looked especially feminine without the baggy black hoodies he usually wore. He grimaced at the lack of eyeshadow under his eyes like normal. He luckily wasn’t stupid enough to deny himself the usual concealer he wore, knowing his freckles would complete how absolutely pathetic he felt right now. The worst part of all though was his hair. Still in the same style as before, he had made the stupid decision of bleaching and dying his black hair a vibrant champagne pink.
Virgil’s day was already not off to a great start. He nearly ended up late for school by how long he ended up frowning at himself in the mirror. Luckily though, Logan managed to pick him up and as he got into the back seat, Patton turned to him, taking out one of his earbuds.
“Hey-! Woahhhh,” Patton said, holding a hand to his mouth. “Gosh, I hardly recognize you!”
Virgil made a face and shrugged. “It’s bad huh?” he asked quietly, shrinking in on himself as Patton continued to stare and Logan eyed him from the rearview mirror.
Patton’s eyes widened. “No no, I don’t think so! Virge, I think you look great no matter what! I just didn’t think that when you meant different, you meant this different,” he chuckled, reaching a hand back to hold Virgil’s.
Virgil smiled a little. Patton sure seemed to have a way with words, he was already feeling a little better.
“I agree. It’s definitely quite different from your usual style but it doesn’t look bad,” Logan told him as he pulled out of Virgil’s driveway, heading off to school. “The question is though, do you like it?”
And there it was, the one question that Virgil was waiting for and dreaded as soon as it left Logan’s mouth. Luckily though, his anxiety prepared him for this as he responded with a shrug. “Eh, I dunno, it’s... Different. I thought I might try it for a few days, see how I feel. I might just feel iffy cause it’s new, y’know?”
“Fair enough, as long as you are willing to see what works and this is something you want to explore, we support you,” Logan told him, the conversation ending there.
Virgil gets to school a nervous wreck. As much as Patton and Logan helped (as they always seemed to do, damn Virgil for picking amazing friends), he managed to work himself up at the thought of seeing Roman again. He’d been ignoring Roman, he wasn’t going to see any of this coming. Luckily, due to his freak out in the mirror, he ended up walking on to campus with only five minutes left before his first class started. He luckily didn’t spot Roman during that small amount of time and he was off to his first class, the first class and first day of senior year. This would be interesting.
Classes were going well, they weren’t doing anything on the first days. More introductions, more syllabuses, just like every other year.
What wasn’t like every other year was the amount of looks he was getting. They weren’t necessarily bad really, it was just a lot more attention than usual. A handful of people even complimented his hair. He could handle this, it wasn’t so bad he tried to rationalize to himself.
“So what’s up with the hair?” Ryan, one of the members of student council, asked as he sat down next to Virgil in his government class.
“Dyed it,” was all Virgil said, staring straight at the board as the teacher was writing something.
“Yeah dude, I figured. Why’d you do it is what I meant,” Ryan laughed a little, quirking an eyebrow as he leaned against his hand.
“Felt like it, wanted to try it.”
“Never seen you in clothes like that before, you sure you’re like, ok? Are you having an early midlife crisis or something?”
Man would he not shut up. Normally he was pretty ok but if Virgil had to spend any more time on this, he was liable to start throwing hands.
“Don’t know when the middle would be, I’ve decided to have an ongoing crisis instead.”
Ryan only laughed at that and roughly pat his back. “There he is, had me worried for a second,” he sighed out with a chuckle, finally letting the conversation fade off.
The last Virgil had heard, Roman was taking AP Spanish, meaning that he would be somewhere over...
The two of them made eye contact as Roman walked towards him.
Roman stopped walking, his conversation with the person next to him completely halting in its tracks.
“Woah, Virge?” he asked, sounding way more confused and caught off guard than Virgil would have liked.
Virgil smiled and waved. “Hey,” he said lightly.
“Hey, woah. Complete wardrobe change huh?” Roman chuckled a little, his eyes crinkling in that absolutely boyish and charming way that he always had possessed.
“Yeah, I just thought I’d try it, you know? Figured it was time I changed it up,” Virgil responded, the smile still present. This felt weird, it wasn’t just him right? Roman seemed taken aback but his posture was as relaxed and carefree as usual. Virgil must be imagining the tension, that was the only possible explanation for the sharp twist in Virgil’s chest.
“Fair enough, I’ll support my best friend in anything he does, yeah?” Roman chuckled. “Hey, do you want to come with me to say hi to some people before we head over to Pat and Specs?” Roman tilted his head vaguely in the direction he had been heading.
“Sure,” Virgil responded. With that, Roman started walking. “So.. How was your summer?”
Roman let out a heavy sigh, the tension dissolving in an instant as he laughed. “So insanely busy, I can’t believe how much I was not at home! Seriously, my family took a ton of trips, and between that and summer theater programs, it was intense! Part of me is relieved to be back in school!” he explained.
“How come? School’s kind of a drag, you and I both know that,” Virgil snorted, bumping Roman’s shoulder playfully.
“Oh trust me, it is definitely a drag at times! But it means I get to see you more often, missed my best friend!” Roman hummed, ruffling Virgil’s newly pink hair. Virgil’s cheeks heated up as he looked down at his shoes. “It’s been forever since we’ve talked, sorry for getting so busy on you there.”
Virgil shrugged, staring at the ground in front of him. “It’s ok, was pretty busy too. Not really as much as you but, you know.. Busy still...”
“Definitely, we always seemed to catch each other at the worst times! Drove me absolutely crazy!”
Virgil laughed a little. “Yeah, same.”
Roman looked over with an absolutely heart melting smile, one that held nothing but genuine care. Virgil had missed him just as much.
Roman’s friends, some of the most popular kids in their grade, immediately noticed as he walked over, greeting him with laid back “hey”s and “how’ve you been”s. Roman’s face took on a relaxed and comfortable look as he greeted them back. It seemed very different from how Virgil usually saw Roman (though that was becoming rarer at this point, he couldn’t help but think bitterly).
“Hey Roman, you hear about the party Ashley threw over break?” one of the guys asked though Virgil tried to not really pay attention. It took everything in his power to not hug on to Roman’s arm at the sheer amount of people that were in front of him, some giving him looks as they talked with Roman.
“A bit, what’s up? Something happen that I should know about?” Roman asked.
“Beth got dumped by her boyfriend, she found him in one of the closets making out with some other girl he’s been dating for a while too.” A laugh followed the statement and Virgil wrinkled his nose at that. That sounded horrible.
“Hey Roman, who’s your friend who’s glaring at that stick?” someone else asked.
“This is Virgil, my best friend since middle school! He and I just came over to say hi, I have some other people I need to say hi to before next period!” Roman told the group, his arm loosely over Virgil’s shoulder.
Virgil was able to glance up a bit as they said hi to him and he nodded, trying to keep the pure sense of panic off his face.
“I like the hair, you do that yourself?”
Virgil nodded again, finding his voice enough to say, “Yeah, did it last night actually. Just thought I’d try it.”
More gossip was shared after his little introduction though and he was soon forgotten amongst everyone else’s stories.
“It was the worst hangover ever, I swear to god!”
“She didn’t! She couldn’t have!”
“Did you hear that he almost got suspended last year? I know, it was pathetic!”
Roman barely spoke up at all.
Soon though (but not soon enough) Roman was saying his goodbyes and heading over to where Patton and Logan would be waiting.
Virgil was lost in his own thoughts. Was Roman really friends with that group of people? They didn’t seem very nice, they didn’t seem very... Roman. But he was talking with them, it seemed like he was his normal self more or less. One thing Virgil knew was that however much he didn’t like his hair and the attention it grabbed, this was the right choice, he couldn’t stand to think of what would happen if he was out of Roman’s league anymore. He couldn’t lose his best friend like this, not now.
“Hey, you ok?” Roman asked, stopping them for a moment, looking over to Virgil.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Virgil said with a smile. He felt something painful gnawing at his stomach. “Just lost in thought, I’m great,” he laughed.
Roman studied his expression for a moment before nodding. “Alright, just let me know! C’mon, let’s go hang out with Pat and Specs!” he said excitedly, grabbing Virgil’s hand as he rushed to where Patton had spotted them and was waving.
______________________________
Hey hey hey, champagne pink probably wasn’t what you guys were expecting huh? Any thoughts on Virgil’s new look?
This was a tough one to get inspiration for, mainly because of the popular kids scene. I myself was never a popular kid and while that in and of itself wouldn’t be an issue, I never really knew anything about how popular kids in my high school acted since I usually had my headphones on and sat in secluded places of campus. So to say that I am inexperienced with the popular crowd is an understatement. I had to ask friends to tell me about what they observed! Take that part with a grain of salt!
My apologies for it being so long since I updated the story, I will have much more time to focus on everything now that I finished up finals and whatnot and am on winter break right now! Expect more to come!
As always, I hope you guys liked it and feel free to chat with me in the comments, your guys’ opinions are so wonderful to hear!

Coffin Chapter Twenty-Six
Masterpost
Emile pushed his cart along, buying groceries. It was mostly just necessities. Bread, milk, eggs, and then ingredients for a slightly more special dinner he intended to make.
It was a perfectly normal, average grocery trip, without even the possibility of bumping into one of his clients. Until he heard a strange sound, followed by someone speaking angrily.
“We just had to get like three things!” The angry voice hissed, and Emile turned the corner. “I don’t have time for you to do this again! ”
There was a man wearing one of those horrible hunter badges, and pulling on… something started rushing in Emile’s ears, and his stomach turned. The man was pulling on a leash, attached to a collar, around the neck of a vampire who was already muzzled, and trying to pull back.
Emile could not, he could not stand to have this happen in front of him and do nothing. The man saw him staring and rolled his eyes, faking a smile.
“Everything is under control, it can’t get away from me. Please do not be concerned.”
He yanked on the leash, and the vampire looked at Emile, trying to say something that just came out muffled, but sounded pained.
Emile stepped forward, smiling and holding his hand out to the hunter. “My name is Emile, do you how do?”
The man froze for a moment in confusion, tentatively shaking his hand. “It’s uh, nice to meet you, but I’m actually pretty busy…”
“I’m a therapist, and I couldn’t help but notice you seem to be having some anger issues,” Emile said, letting his voice go sickly sweet.
The man’s face twisted. “Look, I don’t need any—“
“See, there, it’s practically painted on your face,” Emile said, shaking his head.
The man only got more angry. “Look, man, piss off, I don’t need a therapist.”
Emile's face twisted to rather look embarrassed. "Well, it was worth a shot. I was hoping that you'd feel indebted to me, and would be more willing to help. I'm really trying to get that package of granola, but it's quite a bit higher than I can reach."
The man blinked. "You-- You'd just use your psychology on random people like that?"
Emile shoved down the nausea that rose within him. That this person would be offended at him for something like this when he was holding someone on a leash-- he was so disgusted it was hard to keep it off of his face. But he just shrugged with a slight smile. "I can, and most of the time people actually fall for it."
Emile could see the unspoken ending of the sentence, 'I guess you're smarter than most' hit the man, and he every so slightly puffed up, all signs of anger gone.
"I guess I don't mind getting your granola, but you can't just go around doing things like this."
Emile put on an innocent, embarrassed face. "Yeah, I guess it's not really very fair..."
He waited until the man was stretching up to get the granola off of the very top shelf. He yanked at the leash, pulling it right out of the man's free hand. He threw the end at the vampire. "Run!"
The vampire was frozen for half a second, wide-eyed and scared, and then bolted.

Dee was sick of the circles underneath Thomas's eyes. He was sick of how tired they were making him. He couldn't just tell him no, though. Thomas was trying so hard out of a desire to keep them safe, and Dee couldn't say that that was a bad desire, because it wasn't, and he couldn't say that it wasn't needed, because it was. But that didn't mean he had to like it.
Remus was right though, the thrall felt rather like a snake to him. Like he was sinking fangs into Thomas's mind and poisoning him. It was like there was a different poison in each fang, and he just had to figure out how to change how much he was releasing into Thomas when he bit down. But not this time.
"Don't fight this time," Dee said.
"But that's the whole point," Thomas protested.
"Just let me try it this way, ok?"
Thomas nodded.
Dee bit down, and almost immediately Thomas went limp, unresisting. Dee waited a minute to be sure he had a solid control before letting go of Thomas. Thomas swayed slightly, looking up at him plaintively.
“You haven’t done anything wrong,” Dee assured him. “It’s time for a long nap, ok?”
Thomas nodded eagerly.
“Come on, lay down.”
Thomas laid down so quickly he nearly slammed his head into the ground. But at least he was laying down now.
“Good. Now go to sleep.”
Thomas closed his eyes immediately, and shortly after he fell asleep.
Dee finally turned around to see Remus staring at him disapprovingly. He frowned. “I will not let him wear himself ragged over this.”
“So you’re willing to thrall him and force him to do what you want him to do, even when you know he wouldn’t want to?”
Somehow the words pierced him. That wasn’t… that wasn’t what he was doing. Was it?
Dee didn’t have an answer. He sat down near Thomas, shoving the question away. For the moment he’d focus on making sure nothing woke Thomas up.

Patton’s eyes popped open. “I remember!”
“What?” Roman exclaimed. Virgil just gaped.
“I mean, kind of. It’s fading away now.” Patton said, frowning in an attempt to hold on to the rapidly slipping memories. “I didn’t think it was possible to like you even more, Virgil,” he said, trying to make a joke.
Based on Virgil’s wry face, he didn’t find it very funny.
Patton’s frown deepened. “I think... “ he sighed. “I think it’s gone now. I kinda remember a little bit of feelings, but nothing else. Still, that’s a really good job, Virgil!”
Roman slung an arm over Virgil’s shoulders. “You’re getting it, shortstop!”
Virgil had a tiny smile. “You think?”
“Yeah! This is a big step, kiddo!” Patton said warmly.
“I vote bonfire!” Roman said loudly. “Tonight we feast on marshmallows!”
“Yeah!” Patton said, pumping his fist up in the air.
They both looked at Virgil. “That could be cool. I haven't really been to a bonfire before.”
Roman gasped as if it was a personal affront to his character. “Never? In all the eighteen years of your life you’ve never been to a bonfire?”
Virgil shook his head.
“We’ll have to build a really big one, then!” Patton said excitedly.

Remy was bored. Maybe he would go out. Probably once Emile got back. Maybe he’d hang around for dinner, but after that he was going out.
And then his phone rang. It was Emile. What, did he forget his wallet?
“Hey, babe, what’s--”
“Remy! I need you!” Emile was yelling, and sounded downright panicked.
Remy was running immediately. “Where are you?”
“The store still. Come quick!”
Remy raced to the store, shoving his phone into his pocket without bothering to hang up. He found Emile outside, with blood running from his nose. “Emile!”
Emile waved him away. “Not me, the hunter went and he’s chasing a vampire.”
Remy growled. He wanted to check on Emile, but he knew Emile would be mad at him for days, if not longer if he didn’t go save this other vampire.
The scent of the hunter was still strong in the air, and it didn’t take long to find him. Remy swung for the back of his head, knocking him out and continuing on to find the vampire. The vampire also was painfully obvious, running without any super speed, and still cuffed, muzzled, and even leashed. Remy caught him around the waist, and the vampire let out a terrified scream.
“Hush.” Remy commanded. “You’ll get snatched up by every hunter in the area running around like this.”
The vampire was shaking and blubbering, but stopped fighting against him and quieted down. Remy got rid of the various restraints, and the vampire nearly dropped to the ground.
“Look, I get you’re tired, and I get you’re scared, but you’re practically asking to get picked up, gurl. Calm down. Don’t run when you see a hunter, and try to act like a human, yeah?”
The vampire nodded shakily.
“Great. I’ll drop these cuffs off somewhere away from here.” Remy turned to leave, but stopped and turned back. “You have a phone?”
“I--I had one. N-not anymore.”
Remy rolled his eyes. He didn’t have anything to write on either.
“Look, here’s my number,” he said, showing the vampire on his phone. “If you get desperate, call me.”
The vampire nodded.
“You got it?”
Another nod.
“Cool. See you around.”
Remy took the various hunter supplies and dropped them off behind the store. And then he finally got back to Emile, who was waiting in the car in the parking lot, holding a tissue to his nose.
“What happened, Em?”
Emile shrugged. “There was a hunter, and you know I can’t stand what they do, but it’s just getting worse and worse. I couldn’t do nothing.”
Remy scoffed. “You never could do nothing.”
Emile gave him a smile. That smile in particular never was fair, that ‘you know you love me’ smile.
Remy shook his head, grabbing Emile in a hug. “You’ve got to stop scaring me, Emile.”
Emile was silent a moment. Then he spoke, quietly, and very seriously. “I don’t know if I can. Everything keeps getting worse, and I won’t just sit and watch it happen in front of me.”
“I know. You just have to stay safe.”
Emile nodded. “Thanks for always rescuing me.”
Remy chuckled. “Someone’s gotta do it. It’d be a crime to leave someone as sweet as you unrescued.”

“He said he was a therapist, that his name was Emile.”
The doctor nodded, checking his head carefully.
“Hey, wait,” the next guy waiting said. “Wasn’t one of those wanted people called Emile?”
“The ones that took down Liam Hart? Nah, this guy couldn’t have done that if he tried. He was just one of those bleeding-heart types.”
“Eh, Imma check anyway.”
“Yeah, sure, knock yourself out.”

life sucks when there's no cuddles (chapter 2)
 okay so i have made a dumb decision to make a third part as well and then the series shall be completed (hopefully)
words: 2535
chapter 1 | chapter 3
ao3 link
contents and warnings: touch starved Janus, Patton wants to receive and give all the affection, platonic moceit, being overly on guard, miscommunications, hurt/comfort, crying, yearning mention, virgil/roman/remus/logan mention,
___
Patton rubbed his eyes tiredly as he woke up, his head was lazily resting on his arms which ended up resting on his desk due to an impromptu nap. he was happy and proud he had been very productive for Thomas, But he was still pretty tired because pro tip falling asleep on you desk sucks, especially after working (in his opinion) quite a lot so his limbs already were tired from writing stuff down, and he intended to ask someone if he could have a cuddle pile and potentially watch a movie with them because he wanted to rest somewhere and with someone comfortably, he didn't want to just fall asleep on his bed, he was happier being around people he liked, and also, his room felt all stiff and boring right now, and while it was probably since he had been working seriously, he still didn't like it and didn't want to remain in it.
He paused his thoughts before trying to decide who he was gonna ask for affection, wanting to decide before standing up. maybe Virgil? Virgil was nice and especially after the stressing week he needed to rest- but he was touch adverse a lot of the time after stress inducing things.
Logan? He was nice and just kinda let Patton lounge on him and he was comfy and allowed Patton to play with his hair sometimes as long as it was quiet enough for him to read as Patton did so, but.. same with Virgil he was rather touch adverse a lot of the time after stressful stuff.
Roman was left, he loved roman, he was nice and Patton got to hear him talk about his projects and Disney stuff and just stuff he was excited about and it was so nice and he got to lay in Roman’s lap.. but of course Roman most of the time goes on quests after a stressful time or if he just had to stay in the same place too long and he wants to stretch, so definitely not free since he wouldn’t even be in his room and he’s out in the imagination.
And he doesn’t really want to ask Remus because In the nicest way possible he’s not the most comfortable with him, at least not yet, and he doesn’t want to bother Janus- but oh wait Janus might be free! And he hasn't seen him in a while, so maybe Janus would be willing to hang out with him?
He cheers up instantaneously from the disappointment of not being able to ask the others before realizing that Janus always seemed really stiff in hugs and he seemed he might've been a little uncomfortable when sleepy Patton made grabby hands for him to cuddle, so maybe he doesn’t like physical affection- but! He could still.. possibly ask him if he wanted to watch a movie and hang out with him, and that way he won’t feel uncomfortable in a hug or anything and Patton still gets company from the people he enjoys, and later once Logan and the others are all rested up maybe he can plan a proper movie night for everyone! And he could hang out with Janus again and his other friends and he could get all the love, at least if they're comfortable with that.
He happily stands up before sinking out to the outside of Janus’s room, after a moment he knocked happily and after another moment or two, a kind of tired, apprehensive looking Janus opened the door.
Patton smiled, if tiredly, but he made sure to muster up all his energy before speaking, “heyo kiddo! would you want to watch a movie with me? You can choose which movie we watch!” He told him. fighting back a yawn, he had a vague suspicion that he wouldn’t make it through the whole movie before falling asleep.
Janus seemed to be thinking about it before he went “what about the others?” in his honeyed but for some reason tiniest bit nervous voice,
Patton shrugged “I don’t think they’d be able to, but it doesn't really matter, I like hanging out with you and it gives me an opportunity to, so I’m happy!” Patton grinned again.
Janus nodded “..okay, if you want me to, I’ll come.” He told him, and normally Janus didn’t seem this nervous, did something happen while they were all holed away? He hoped Janus wasn’t sad!
Patton smiled though at Janus's response and resisted grabbing Janus's hand, after all Janus appeared to possibly be uncomfortable with the little gestures and he didn’t want to overwhelm or upset him, so he just offered him a smile before going “okay! I’ll go get the TV set up and grab some snacks, come to the living room when you're ready!” and waving and then promptly sinking out, which he’s gotta say is exhausting and he should not be doing it in his already exhausted state, but it was whatever and if he was actually going to stop for a time was anybody’s guess.
He quickly grabbed some snacks for them from the kitchen once he rose up into the living room and grabbed a couple blankets and just got set up in general, though he didn’t make any move to find a movie yet, he waited for Janus to say what movie he wanted to watch since Patton did say he could choose because honestly Patton might end up falling asleep and Janus shouldn’t have to watch a movie he doesn’t like while Patton's asleep.
After a couple minutes of waiting after getting everything ready, Janus emerged, shifting uncomfortably as he stood around, kind of like Virgil did before Thomas and the others accepted him, that comparison kind of actually scared Patton. after another moment Patton motioned to the couch in silent invitation, which Janus took up and sat down on the other end of the couch, honestly Janus seemed to of devolved from his usual façade, even as he sat down he was holding himself nervously and was- well he was reminding Patton so much of old Virgil it was concerning, he didn’t want to intrude on asking if something happened though, they weren't really close as friends yet, but he did want to let Janus know he was there for him somehow.. he took a small unnoticeable breath before turning to Janus and asking “which movie would you Like?”
Janus thought about it for a moment “what about the greatest showman? It has good songs, though the showman is an awful person,” He said, the first bit hesitantly, and while he himself knew the reason why he was being like this (though he thought it wasn’t as noticeable) was because he was making sure to be on guard as to not blurt out anything or accidentally say something that would either beckon questions from Patton or make him concerned, though he was failing at not making Patton concerned,
Because, Patton though, Patton didn’t know, he didn’t know one bit, and he was worried for Janus, he had never seen Janus act like this and he just seemed constantly nervous and he didn’t really know what to do, after all, Janus may not even want to talk to Patton about it.
Patton gave Janus a small smile as he turned the movie on, getting comfy and offering Janus a blanket and he didn’t know why but as Janus accepted it from Patton’s hand he seemed to give a small longing look, and Patton didn’t know if he had misread the look or something else because what could he be yearning for?
He didn’t know, and he doubted thinking about it would come any good so he just discontinued thinking about it, but one of the things he instead thought of was that Janus was so comfy and Patton wanted cuddles- but then he had to internally scold himself once again because he didn’t want Janus to be uncomfortable with Patton because he didn’t like cuddles or hugs, Janus deserved to have his boundaries respected after all.
After a moment he just began cozying up into the couch, and, deciding that Janus’s presence really was comforting, even just having him there, as the seconds went by he started getting sleepy and his eyelids grew heavier, though he kept his eyes on the screen, and honestly yeah he had to admit just being in the same room with Janus made him happy and content.
And honestly no one could blame him for when he just.. rested his eyes for a minute, and then promptly fell asleep.
Janus noticed and after carefully checking to make sure Patton's back wouldn’t hurt when he woke up and he wasn’t cold, Janus just quickly began paying full attention to the movie that was playing again, semi-contently sitting back into the couch, happy to listen to the beautiful songs and choreography.
—-
It was maybe a half hour or so Later when Patton woke up, though he didn't know, it could’ve been a full hour, but Patton knew some time had indeed passed as he woke up placed to lean back on the couch and not slouch forward on the couch arm,
He also knew some time had passed because Janus was crying.
And from the look of it he was unaware of it, just zoned out and seemingly captivated by the screen with tears running down his cheeks, and after a paralyzed moment of just.. staring at Janus, he lurched forward, “what happened? Is something wrong? Do you need anything?” He asked in abrupt, sleepy concern, though he felt himself waking up more at just the sight of poor Janus crying.
Janus just pointed shakily to the screen (in which one of the scenes where charity and Barnum were hugging and just being happy before Barnum was a trash human being) and just shakily mumbled out “I want that” And while even Janus himself doesn’t seem to really realize he’s crying or even saying these things, maybe he hasn’t slept in a while either- but regardless, even if Janus can’t seem to notice, Patton can, and Patton does, Patton notices how Janus’s voice is filled with sorrow and just nothing short of pain and how it becomes cracked from tears.
And Patton's vision flickers to the tv, which he notices is paused, but he doesn’t seem to really get it just yet, just asking again, softer, “what do you need, hun?” He said, trying to coax out Janus because it seemed if it was enough to make him cry then it wasn’t something he wanted but rather something he indeed very much needed and he wanted to see if he could help out the scaled side.
Janus just seemed to sob a tiny bit louder, which in turn shocked himself for a second because he didn’t realize he was being as loud as he was (though the others fortunately couldn’t hear) and after another second he seemed to finally process he had both been crying and that Patton caught him crying and wanted to help.
Which part surprised him more was anybody’s guess, but after a moment though he just started sobbing more, now incredibly embarrassed but also just not knowing how to stop in the moment and he tried to speak and communicate with Patton nonetheless despite his nose and eyes being red and despite him being miserable from the sobs racking his body “I- i want- I’m sorry I just I want- I haven’t had a hug in so long-“ he stammered out after a lot more effort than he would’ve liked to admit.
and despite Patton's growing confusion he didn’t waste a second in lunging forward and wrapping up Janus in his arms, feeling as Janus went stiff but ultimately ended up melting into a puddle against Patton, hiding his face in Patton’s shirt as he tried to stop crying, he didn’t know why but he couldn’t get himself to stop crying, he didn’t know if something in him had just broke and never wanted to be put away again or what, because while Patton's soft murmurs of “it'll be alright i know it might not feel like it but i promise it will,” did help it definitely didn’t stop it completely like Janus would’ve wanted.
After maybe five minute Patton pulls away slightly- and after seeing how instantly more distraught Janus is once he does he makes sure to still have a grasp on Janus for Janus’s comfort before he sat down against the couch more comfortably, because unfortunately while Patton would want to sit with Janus and give him all the affection the way they were hugging hurt his knees and they were slowly going numb so he settled into the cushions contently, so after getting his legs from under him and making sure they wouldn’t cramp he gently pulled Janus back into his arms and just let Janus melt all over again as Patton held him securely.
And then, Janus continued to just sob into Patton's shirt, and Patton still doesn’t know why necessarily, having only gotten pretty vague small hints and explanations by a tearful too-upset-to-really-communicate-effectively Janus, but regardless he holds him and after a moment of realizing Janus needs to get this out he just makes sure Janus feels safe as he cries and once the tears finally seem to end Patton quickly summons a bottle of water and opens it for Janus so if Janus’s limbs did feel strained from the exhaustion of those emotions all he had to do was hold it, which he did, and he quickly took a big couple gulps before just laying back in Patton's arms again, obviously utterly exhausted, and Patton decided that they both needed a nap so he took the water and set it down before setting up pillows and grabbing blankets and just, getting ready to rest while also making sure Janus was comfortable,
It took a couple minutes but Patton was able to get comfortable on the couch with Janus curled into his chest, and the two were able to rest, and luckily Janus didn’t seem to be too opposed to the idea of a cuddly nap.
and when they both woke up if Janus was up for it they would talk, and Patton would make sure Janus was okay, or at least better then before, and hopefully get Janus to go to either Patton or someone else for comfort or just cuddles, so he had moral support and care because Patton was really concerned for his newer friend.
And with that semi-planned plan in mind he closed his eyes and allowed himself to fall asleep once again, happily giving Janus cuddles as he indeed fell asleep and within minutes Janus followed in suit, practically using Patton as a pillow as he fell asleep on Patton's Chest, content and warm, honestly Janus didn’t really expect this to be the result when Patton asked him to watch a movie with him but he was fine with it regardless, he may not have loved the crying bit but it turned out more alright then he really expected it would’ve and he was content.

I Didn’t Think It Would Lead to This-Agere!Sides AU (pt.14)
Patton was curled up next to Virgil, both having been regressed the night prior. Patton wore a pastel blue onesie,and fluffy white socks. His white kitten pacifier was in his mouth, and he had his head laying on Virgil's chest.
Virgil wore black shortalls, with a light purple shirt underneath. No pacifier, but he had his arms wrapped around Patton. Roman and Logan found that when they regressed together, Virgil took over a caring-type role, but in a childish manner. Sort of like an older brother. Logan and Roman found this amusing, and heart-warming.
Logan walked into the commons, taking his place next to the half-asleep Roman, handing him a red mug of coffee.
"Y'know, that day..when Virgil was acting "weird" and all, I didn't think it would lead to this." He motioned around himself, at the two boys on the other side of the couch.
Roman spoke softly and quietly, as to avoid waking Virgil and Patton. "I know," Logan breathed out, "But I'm glad it did. Thomas is doing a bit better all across the board, and all of us are happier..it's a good thing."
Roman nodded, hesitating before he continued. "I know that us all regressing it helping Thomas..but what do you think he'll think of it? And also the fans...he overshares his problems online, to a whole crowd of people. Who's to say he won't reveal our regression to them? If he doesn't judge, then someone in the comment section will."
"You're starting to sound like anxiety," Logan joked, causing him to smile. "But seriously, about what Thomas will think? Well, we all are acceptive, so that means his mind thinks it's okay, so he might be confused at first, but he probably won't be against it. Second off, if we ask him not to say anything to his fans, he won't."
Roman nodded, accepting the reassurance before speaking again. "I-i was just a bit worried about that, that's all. You're the logical one, I figured if I talked to my boyfriend, I'd get negativity all around. And if I talked to Patton.."
"Overwhelming positivity," Logan completed, and Roman nodded again, his only verbal response being a mumbled 'mhm'. After a few moments, Logan spoke again.
"You wanna know something I've noticed?"
"Shoot,"
"None of us ever established caregivers, or any sort of official rules," he chuckled, "we just all sort of trusted the person we were closest to, and that was that."
"Yeah..you're right. I mean, maybe we were waiting until all of us had regressed, or just waiting to see how many of us were actually littles," Roman vaguely motioned to him, "so we could kind of figure out our dynamic, I guess. So far, all I see is that, when someone regressed, they go to their boyfriend, and if they are unavailable or little, then another person takes care of them. We are all..sort of each others caregivers, as far as I can tell."
Logan nodded, "you're not wrong."
Roman went to go say something until Logan was distracted by the adorable sound of Patton waking up.
"Papa?" Patton sat up slowly, rubbing at him eyes, pulling his pacifier out of his mouth. He yawned and put it back in, glancing around hurriedly for his stuffed animal. Logan was quick to get up, locating it and handing it to him. Patton buried his face in it's fur, humming thankfully. After a few moments, he made grabby hands towards Logan.
Logan knew what he wanted, picking him up and walking back to the couch where Roman sat. "Still feel little, baby boy?" Logan asked, setting him in his lap and wrapping his arms around his waist. Patton kicked his feet with a playful squeal, nodding his head. His smile dropped.
"M' I to much..I-i can be big!" he offered, and Logan shook his head quickly.
"No, no, no, Pat. I was just curious to see if I'd have a baby for the morning or not, it's alright. You're so cute,"
Roman rolled his eyes, directing his attention to Virgil, who was waking up slowly. "Hey, Vee. Sleep well?"
Virgil nodded slowly, getting up and coming to hug Roman, still half asleep.
"How about you, are you still little?"
"nuh-uh!" he denied quietly, and Roman only laughed and moved to kiss his forehead.
"How old are you, darling?"
"Big," he looked so serious, attempting to convince him.
"But babyy," Roman pretended to pout, tapping the button of his nose. "What if I want to cuddle with Toddler Vee?"
Virgil went from shy to giggly and shy. "You're silly, dada," he mumbled, and Roman did a double take.
"what did you just say?"
"N-nothing," Virgil assured, summoning his black bear and hiding his face in it.
"Wait, no! Say it again," Roman urged, and Virgil shook his head. Roman resorted to tickling his sides, and Virgil giggled.
"Dada, no! Stooppp!" he whined, and Roman smiled.
"See, that wasn't hard, baby."
Virgil still looked shy, pouting a bit. Roman hugged him, kissing his forehead. "It's alright, Vee. It's very cute, I'm fine with it."
He blushed, looking down shyly. "What about we have some breakfast,hmm?" Roman looked to Logan, who was still babying Patton in his lap.
"Yeah, Thomas is making breakfast now,so we should too."
Roman agreed with Logan's words, getting up and taking his place at the stove. Usually, if Patton wasn't available to cook, then Logan would. But Roman could tell that Patton was regressed deeper, meaning that he needed more attention.
Patton clumsily followed Logan into the kitchen, and Logan instructed him to sit in his normal seat. But the baby pouted and whimpered, and Logan knew there was no point in arguing, pulling him into his lap. "When we eat,you have to go to your seat,alright baby?"
Patton shook his head quickly, causing Virgil to giggle. "Yes, you will," Logan assured, and Patton hummed out a few works quietly,
"Nuh-uh,don't wanna.."
It was muffled by his pacifier, but Logan understood. "Stop pouting and listen," he spoke, slightly harsher.
Patton whimpered,closing his eyes and going quiet. He sniffled slightly, and Logan quickly realized what he had done. It only took the slightest amount of anger, of annoyance, or anything that seemed harsh for the baby to cry.
Logan bounced his leg, distracting him while removing Patton's glasses. "Shh, it's okay. None of that, papa isn't mad at you,"
Roman busied himself while Logan handled Baby Pat, filling a bottle for Patton, and a sippy cup for Virgil.
"Sorry, papa. I move," Patton mumbled,trying to move out of his lap. Logan tightened his arms around his waist and shook his head.
"Careful baby, you'll hurt yourself. And you don't need to be sorry, I'm not upset with you," Logan assured, and Patton hummed, still obviously feeling bad.
Logan wiped the few tears from under Patton's eyes, kissing his cheek. Patton smiled, leaning into him. "Hmm? You like kisses?" Logan teased, repeatedly kissing the boys face, causing him to giggle. Within seconds of Logan's playful antics, Patton had forgotten all about his quick second of brattiness.
"Why are you so lucky? You get Patton,he's so easy to take care of," Roman smiled heartily, handing Logan the bottle, full of warm cinnamon milk. Patton absolutely loved it, making grabby hands towards the light blue bottle.
"Virgil isn't hard though, he's just shy, you just have to be comforting and figure out what's he needs. The only hard one is you," Logan didn't realize what he was saying, and he shut his mouth quickly, distracting himself by taking the bottle from Patton and helping him before he spilled it.
Virgil giggled again, while Roman playfully glared at him. This staring contest only lasted for a few seconds before Roman spoke. "So..today I really wanted to visit The Vineyard Village in the imagination, can you babysit Virge for me?"
"I suppose so," Logan sighed, and Virgil pouted.
"Dada's leavin'?"
Logan raised his eyebrow,asking a silent question that Roman understood, 'dada?'.
"I'll tell you later," he replied, turning back to Virgil. "Vee,I'll be back soon, for now you get to play with Baby Pat and Lo, mhm?"
Virgil protested,pouting and huffing, and resulted to a slightly harsher route. "Stop it,I'm only gonna be gone for a bit,"
"B-but-"
"Virgil."
Virgil absolutely hated that tone, so he shut up with a pout. Roman knew what would come next if he didn't give him a bit of affection, he kissed his forehead to make up for snapping. "I love you, Vee. More than anything,alright?"
"Love you too, dada," Virgil smiled slightly, and Roman swiped his sippy cup off the counter and gave it to him.
"Good baby," Virgil accepted the praise, kicking his feet.
Soon, breakfast was done,and Roman was leaving. Patton sat on the couch, amusing himself with the stuffed dinosaur that rattled. Virgil seemed annoyed by the sound, but he didn't do anything. Patton was giggling and being adorable, Virgil couldn't stop him even if he wanted to.
"Virgil should be good, I've never had to go farther than just a stern tone with him. If you have to be stern, give him lots of affection after, okay? I'm also giving you the authority to put him in timeout, but I doubt that'll be needed."
Logan chuckled at his rambling, practically pushing him out of the door. "It's gonna be fine, I know how to deal with a little."
Roman hesitantly nodded. "You know..I could just wait until Vee is big before I go-"
Logan blocked him from re-entering the home, cutting him off. "Just go,"
Roman sighed, finally leaving. Logan closed the door behind him and approached the couch. Patton seemed content with his stuffed dinosaur (the noise was annoying, even accompanied by Patton's adorable giggles and babbles), so Logan crouched down in from of Virgil.
"Hey Vee,"
"..hi Lo.."
"How old are you feeling, Virge?" Logan asked.
"Five? I don't want a sippy cup anymore," his voice was more normal, but still little. The lack of Roman, along with his personal anxiety, was affecting his headspace age.
He handed Logan the sippy cup, "You sure, bud?"
Virgil nodded, and Logan slowly took the cup. "You know, you're allowed to be little without Roman here,"
"N-no, I'm to much. A-and only Ro knows how to..how to..." Virgil seemed to have somewhat of a difficult time forming his words. Logan waited for Virgil to speak, encouraging him to go on. "Take care of me, you already have Pat, don't wanna be to much..."
"Virgil....you can't help feeling little, okay? Yes, you might be able to control it better than the others, but you still need to use it to help yourself. It's a good thing, and you won't be "to much" for me. I promise,"
Virgil didn't seem convinced, and Logan rolled his eyes, realizing the only way to persuade a five year old. He held out a pinky, and Virgil giggled, locking his into Logan's.
"So...a certain birdy told me that you like scooby doo, is that true?"
Virgil smiled, bouncing in place, giggling. "Yes, yes! I wanna watch ittt!"
This wouldn't be so hard, right?

The Fruits of Love
Summary: "When we first met, you thought I was a pompous airhead and I thought you were nothing short of insufferable. If anyone had told me then I would one day spend my mornings waking up in your arms and kissing your illegally handsome face, I’d have told them to take a long walk off a short pier." Logan can't believe the wedding is finally happening, but even his nerves can't stop him from marrying the prince of his dreams.
Pairings: Logan/Roman, brotherly Virgil/Logan, background Virgil/Deceit/Patton
Rating: G Warnings: a whole heckin lotta fluff  On AO3
I realized I never posted this to tumblr lol, so here yall go
-----
Logan exhaled deep and slow as he took one final look at himself in the full-length mirror. He smoothed his hands over the skirt of his dress, trying to focus on the sensation of smooth silk and textured ruffle rather than the clammy chill that had settled into his palms. The layers over his hips accented his low curves, holding him in an embrace as comforting as his fiance did each night. There was not a crinkle to be found in the fabric, nor a hair out of place from his wavy curls, and yet he felt as disheveled as the dressing room around him, which had been cleared of his half of their wedding party only moments before as they scrambled to get the finishing touches of their outfits in order before the ceremony.
Now, the groom-to-be was alone with his thoughts and a raising heart rate. He could do this, there was no reason for the flush of nervousness that sent a cool tingly sensation to the tips of his manicured fingers and toes (styled like miniature galaxies, of course, his brother was an exceptional artist, even with nail polish). There were less people out there than in any of his lectures, and all of the audience would be close friends and family, and yet...and yet…
He startled when someone softly knocked on the door, looking over his shoulder to see his brother, and best man, peeking in.
“You almost ready?” Virgil asked, stepping inside and closing the door behind him. With what was likely a pitiful expression, Logan turned and reached for his older brother. Virgil didn’t hesitate to step closer, gathering him close. He cupped Logan’s face, smoothing his thumbs over his brother’s cheeks and drawing him close to touch their foreheads together. “Hey, it’s gonna be okay, LB. The love of your life is waiting for you out there, annoying as ever, but looking damn good too. Just don’t tell him I said that, or I’ll never hear the end of it.”
Logan huffed a small laugh, both at Virgil’s never-ending rivalry with his fiance, and the childhood nickname he would never shake - not that he wanted to. LB. Logan Baras. Little Brother. Logan Berries. Lotsa Binch. Really, it was getting ridiculous at this point, but it was an in-joke that had been evolving since they were in grade school. It was also part of the reason why Logan had asked to keep his last name, or hyphenate the two, after the wedding; he couldn’t bear to part with such an ingrained part of himself. Thankfully, Baras-Sanders rolled off the tongue quite nicely, in his opinion.
He raised his hands, mirroring his elder brother’s position to cradle Virgil’s face in turn. “I swear that will remain between you and I, else I will never hear the end of his gloating over your compliment either.” The pair chuckled before Logan trailed off with a sigh. “I .. I am…” A second shaky exhale. “I’m anxious, VB.” Virgil Baras. Very (Big) Brother. Vigilant Bro-tector. Vain Bastard. An eye for an eye, as they say. “I know our friends and family support our relationship, but many of them are unaware that I will be wearing a dress and make-up! Not to mention how unorthodox our choice of venue is - I can’t believe I let him talk me into hosting our wedding at his theater, and -”
“Hey!” Virgil’s low voice cut him off with a small shake of his head. “Hey... it’s my job to be the worry-wart here, remember? Deep breaths, okay? And stop chewing on your lip! Do you know how long it took me to get that ombre just right?”
Logan rolled his eyes, but obliged; he really didn’t want to sit through another session of his brother’s perfectionist fussing.
“Now, you look fucking amazing. Like damn gurl, slay it.” Virgil’s deadpanned drawl in a mockery of their mutual friend, Remy, had Logan snorting a giggle. “But seriously, LB, I can promise you that everyone out there is going to be stunned at how gorgeous this dress is, and how radiant you are… and no one more than that idiot you fell in love with. You’re gonna walk out there, and Za is gonna be with you to walk you down the aisle, and mom will be crying, and I’m gonna waiting on stage too, but you’re only gonna have eyes for the man you are marrying today.”
With a shaky smile and watery eyes, Logan lunged forward to wrap is older brother in a tight hug, burying his face into the crook of the other’s shoulder. “The proper pronunciation is ‘going to’, and I love you so goddamn much, VB.” Pulling back, he cycled a deep breath, and squeezed Virgil’s upper arms gently. “Thank you. Now, I believe we have a wedding to attend.”
Walking out of the dressing room arm-in-arm, the brothers snuck around the side doors so they could enter the theatre from the foyer with the rest of the wedding party. The assorted group of groomsmen, groomsladies, and friends of honour turned as they approached, the other best man breaking away to sweep Logan into a hug.
“Oh Lolo! You look stunning!” Patton pulled back, stars in his eyes as he looked over the whorls of colour covering the ballgown-style dress. “Wow…. This dress is absolutely perfect on you! And it matches your pretty make-up! Oh!! This is so wonderful!!” He fanned his face, trying to hold back the tears that were already threatening to fall. “I can’t believe you two are finally getting married!”
A blush graced Logan’s cheeks with a soft smile. “I cannot either; it feels like a dream come true.”
“Speaking of the wedding - we really need to get that started here, people!” A voice cut in, drawing the group’s attention to the ring-and-flower bearer of the ceremony. Denali approached the trio, slipping their hands into both Virgil and Patton’s. Their outfit was a delightful mix of both their genders: the tighter bodice giving way to a flared coattail-skirt with striped pants matched well with their colourful make-up - done on only one half of their face. The ensemble was completed with a wide-brimmed hat topped with an extravagantly flowing feather. “I love that you’re all being cutesy over here, I really do, but I don’t want to have to listen to Roman whine later that we left him standing at the altar. So-” They raised their voice, addressing the wedding party as a whole. “I need everyone to buddy up and line up! We have some gay nerds who need to get married!”
With a wave to cue the sound operator, the music began. A chuckle rippled through the crowd as they recognized the entrance music as a slowed version of the Lord of the Rings’ iconic theme. Virgil and Patton grinned at one another and planted a kiss on both of Denali’s cheeks simultaneously before linking arms and striding into the theater. Two by two, the rest of the wedding party followed, walking down the center aisle through the audience, and parting at the stage to walk up the stairs on each side. Their lines met once more to either side of Roman and the officiant, an array of suits and dresses in colours accenting the grooms’. Denali completed the proceeding on his own, tossing flower petals with a flourish so grand one would almost believe this was their wedding.
Then, the room faded into silence, and, as the opening notes of the original 1963 Doctor Who opening theme (stylized for a wedding procession, of course) played out, Logan rounded the corner. Arm linked with his Za, and a bouquet accented with peacock feathers held in his other hand, the groom looked ethereal in the spotlight. The blues and greys of his dress and make-up sparkled as he made his way past the most important people in his and Roman’s life, and if he had been able to look away from Roman’s eyes for a moment, he would have seen only love and awe radiating back from them.
Logan hugged his Za tightly as they stopped in front of the stage, smiling with tears in his eyes as his beloved parent tipped his head down to kiss his forehead. When Roman stepped down the stairs at center stage, his burgundy suit and silver filigree circlet lending him the regal air of royalty he had always hoped to achieve, his soon-to-be Za-in-law pulled him into a hug too. Ze guided the grooms’ hands together, squeezing them gently with a smile, and stepped back to sit with zir wife to watch as they officially welcomed another son into their lives.
Ever the gentleman, Roman helped his beloved up the steps, ensuring the skirt of his dress didn’t get caught under the practical blue flats Logan had chosen to wear. Thankfully, there was no train to wrangle, as it was an excess of fabric that Logan had no desire to waste or trip over. As they took their places, Virgil stepped forward to take the bouquet, letting the grooms hold both hands with matching smiles.
Clearing his throat, the officiant - and theater owner, and close friend of Roman’s - Thomas, began the ceremony.
“Mawage.” A smirk was tugging at his lips as both grooms’ jaws dropped. “Mawage is wot bwings us togeder today. Mawage, that bwessed awangement, that dweam wifin a dweam…” Slowly, Logan began to grin, Roman already biting his lip to muffle his giggles. “And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva..” Of course Thomas had chosen to quote the movie they had watched together on their first date. “So tweasure your wuv.”
The entire wedding party was giggling now, as well as a fair number in the audience. Thomas, looking far too pleased with himself, continued in his normal, exuberant tone. “I truly believe the pair standing before us today not only each embody the beautiful magic that blossoms in the heart when one has found true love, but they choose each and every day to work together to care for those precious gardens. They shared carefully tended clippings made from their vulnerabilities and strengths, their fears and their trust, and lovingly incorporated these parts of their partner into their hearts. At times, yes, there were weeds which needed to be pulled. Some just needed to be identified to deal with, while others required both of them pulling with all their might to remove. Those deep roots could have left holes in their gardens, but instead, our handsome grooms chose to fill in the spaces so new seedlings could begin to grow. The literal fruits of their labour have culminated here today, as they promise themselves to one another for the rest of their lives.”
Smiling widely, Thomas retrieved a ring box from the pocket of his suit and held it out. “Roman, I can tell you are absolutely bursting with the need to profess your love right now. We’ll let you say your vows first then.” A laugh rippled through the crowd, Logan snickering too as his betrothed shrugged with a sheepish smile but did not deny the claim.
With his fingers cupped under Logan’s, cradling and supporting them, Roman held up their joined hands and kissed his knuckles. “Hey nerd,” he began, drawing another laugh from their friends and family, and a smiling eye-roll from his beloved. “I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to be the one standing up here with you today. When we first met, you thought I was a pompous airhead and I thought you were nothing short of insufferable. If anyone had told me then I would one day spend my mornings waking up in your arms and kissing your illegally handsome face, I’d have told them to take a long walk off a short pier. But, by Julie Andrews, here we are, and I couldn’t imagine my life without you by my side. You are my greatest joy, my strongest support, and my deepest love. I swear, with every fibre of my being, I will spend everyday striving to be the same for you. I swear to care for you through the good and the bad, to celebrate your victories like they were my own, and to provide for you safety from the noise of the world when all you need is someone on your side. I love you, Logan, this I swear to you.”
Delicately plucking a ring from its satin cushion in the box, Roman cradled Logan’s hand and slipped the band over his left finger. The silver band was inset with three small red stones set on a diagonal, mimicking Orion’s belt - the only constellation Roman could confidently identify for years, frequently and loudly, much to their joined amusement. Woven through the gemstones was a simple silver filigree, and all of which perfectly complemented the engagement ring already at home on Logan’s finger.
If at all possible, Thomas was smiling wider, eyes damp. “Logan? It’s your turn.”
With a sniffle, Logan looked from the wedding band up into the eyes of his love, determined to make it through the ceremony without ruining his make-up. Tenderly, he shifted Roman’s hands so both cradled Logan’s left, around his rings, around their promise. Right hand freed, Logan reached up to cradle Roman’s cheek and smooth his thumb over those sharp cheekbones, accented today with a glittering highlight.
“Roman,” he began, voice a little strained with emotion. “Gods above, Ro, only you and that ridiculously handsome smile of yours could make me forget every carefully planned out word I wanted to say.” The couple shared a chuckle, Roman’s hands tightening briefly around his. “You are every bit the royalty you claim to be. Even now, I cannot recall which one of us began to pursue the other, but I will surely never forget how patient you have been with me through every step of our relationship. Not once have you ever asked more from me than I was willing to share, and nor did you get angry or leave when I requested we slow down because I was scared of how quickly I found myself falling for you. I used to relish in my solitude, in the silence of my own company, but somehow you managed to worm your stubborn way over my walls. You have become a vital part of my life, and I find it unnervingly quiet when you are not around. I cannot even enjoy star-gazing alone anymore! Roman, I need you to know, I would never have it any other way. I swear to care for you through the good and the bad, to celebrate your victories like they were my own, and to provide for you safety from the noise of the world when all you need is someone on your side. I love you, Roman, you truly are the prince of my dreams.”
There was not a dry eye in the theater as Logan retrieved the matching ring to his own from the box and slid it delicately onto Roman’s finger. The equally silver band sat alongside Roman’s engagement ring like it were expressly created to be there. The filigree crept around another trio of gemstones in the same position as Logan’s, though these were coloured a deep blue.
Clutching a hand to his heart, Thomas wiped the tears from his eye. “Roman James Sanders, do you take Logan to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Unable to look away from his love, Roman nodded with a wide smile. “I do.”
“Logan Wilson Baras, do you take Roman to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Logan nodded and squeezed their rejoined hands. “I do.”
“Then by the powers vested in me by the province of British Columbia, I now pronounce you husband and husband! You may kiss the groom!”
Logan had only a moment’s notice at Roman’s shit-eating grin, before he was swung around into a dip, his husband’s - husband!! - knee supporting his back and arms around his shoulder and neck. “You are positively ridiculous,” he muttered, before tugging Roman by the tie to share their first kiss as a wedded couple. Cheers and applause erupted around them, including a wolf-whistle that could have just as easily been from any member of their wedding party.
Straightening, the couple leaned together, Roman’s arm around Logan’s back, hand resting comfortingly on his opposite hip. They grinned, their friends and family standing as Thomas’ voice rang out once more. “Guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, for the first time ever, I present to you Mr. and Mr. Baras-Sanders!”
As a second cheer arose, Virgil stepped over to hand Logan his bouquet again, pulling his brother into a tight hug. “Congrats LB,” he whispered, before standing back and applauding the newly weds.
‘Love you’, Logan mouthed in return, smiling at his brother before turning back to Roman to join their hands and take their first steps into the next adventure of their lives together.

Underneath The Spotlight- A Sanders Sides Fic
Chapter 6- Virgil’s Worst Nightmare
(Read chapter 1 here!)
Read here on ao3!!
Warnings for this chapter: slight panic, crying, cursing
A/N: This chapter is not nearly as angsty as the title makes it sound, it’s more of an exaggeration/me not having very creative chapter names. This chapter is my attempt at comedy lol
The show had been kicked off, and the opening number had gone absolutely perfectly. Full of energy and hardly able to wait to get back on stage, the boys returned to the dressing room while talking excitedly. Patton, however, didn’t have much time for chit-chat. He always volunteered to help with the youngest performers on stage, he was great at looking after them and they really enjoyed his company. The dance school always liked to have the youngest dancers perform as early in the show as possible so they didn’t get tired, meaning it was always Patton’s first job after opening the show. He loved looking after the kids, but there was always one catch- it usually entailed wearing what most people would deem an extremely embarrassing costume. But not for Patton, especially not this time, he loved his pastel blue bunny onesie! The themes of the younger children’s dances were always cute and innocent, this time being no exception. As soon as he was ready, he exited the dressing room and went backstage to meet with the children, only to be met instead with some bad news...
He came stumbling back into the dressing room, repressing tears of panic.
“I can’t believe this is happening!” he said, sinking down into a chair in shock. “One of the girls was supposed to help me look after the kids but she’s gotten sick. We only have a few minutes to find someone else, and there’s like 20 kids, I can’t do this on my own, I just can’t, I-“ as Patton broke down, Janus was quickly by his side, drying his tears and doing his best to save the emotional boy’s makeup. He attempted to hold his hand... or, rather, the paw of his bunny onesie.
“Patton, it’s going to be alright, just look at me-“
“Janus, I appreciate this but I really don’t have time. I came here in a panic, what I really need is to go and talk to the teacher about what we’re going to do.”
Patton left the room, and Janus staring after him in concern, only to return about thirty seconds later.
“Um, Virgil, Mr Picani wants to talk to you,” he said, fidgeting on the spot as he talked.
Virgil didn’t have a dance for a while, so had been relaxing for a bit, and was intending to change into his next costume in a few minutes. However, he knew Patton’s situation was time-sensitive, so, despite wondering what the hell the teacher could want, he didn’t hesitate to spring up and follow Patton into the corridor, where Emile, the teacher, was waiting for them and holding... a bright pink bunny onesie that matched Patton’s? What?
“Ah, Virgil, perfect timing! Am I right in assuming you don’t have a dance for a while?”
“Yes, you are, but I-“
“Perfect! Now I’m sure you’re aware of the situation with Patton. I really apologise for not giving you prior warning, but this is kinda our only option right now.” He held out the onesie. “Could you change into this really quickly and then go and help Patton with the kids on stage? The choreography is so simple and the kids know it well, you’ll be able to follow it easily, we really just need someone else to make sure the little ones know where they’re going- you know how it’s the first show for a lot of them.”
Virgil was at a loss for words. “And you’re sure I’m the only one who can do this?” was all he could seem to say.
Emile winced. “Pretty much, yeah. If I’m correct, all of your other friends are in dances pretty soon afterwards and we wouldn’t want to risk them missing those, however yours isn’t for ages yet.”
Virgil knew Remus also didn’t have a dance for a while, and was going to inquire about why he hadn’t been chosen, yet he knew time was being lost so decided to let it go. He nodded to Mr Picani and took the onesie back into the dressing room.
“I’ll meet you in a few minutes, Pat,” he grumbled, not sure if he meant it or not.
“Virgil, what’s that you’re holding?”
“It’s so... pink.”
“Oh my god, is that a matching onesie with Patton’s?”
“Wait, did Picani ask you to fill in?”
“You seriously have to wear that?!”
“I can’t believe this!” Virgil blurted out. “They’ve chosen me to fill in for the other assistant, apparently I’m the only one who could possibly do it or something! Ugh, I can’t wear this, I’m not good with kids, what do I do?!”
“The only thing you can do,” Roman shrugged. “Your best.”
“Yeah, hate to break it to ya, Virge, but I think you’re just gonna have to suck it up and do it,” Remus remarked.
“Nuh-uh, no way, it’s not happening, guys.”
“Virge, you have to do it! This is what being a dancer is all about! Flexibility, both literally and metaphorically. Things come up, and you just have to roll with it.” said Roman.
“Yeah!” Remus said. He took the onesie from Virgil and unzipped it for him. “You can just wear this over what you’re wearing now,” he said.
Virgil took the costume and reluctantly began to put it on. “Hey, trash man, why aren’t you the one doing this? You don’t have a dance for ages either,” he said, as he struggled to push his arms into the bunny paws.
“Oh, I can think of several reasons,” Janus said.
“Yeah, where to start,” said Remus. “I’m awful with the kids, last time I was around them I taught them to say ‘shit’, I’m pretty sure they’re all terrified of me and call me ‘scary rat boy’ or ‘the Prince’s mean brother’ and I don’t think I’d even fit into the costume anyway! So, despite being an awkward emo disaster, you’re definitely the favourable candidate here!”
“It is not as bad as you may believe it is,” Logan stated, while looking Virgil up and down. “I really doubt anyone will recognise you.” He glanced at the TV, displaying the performance currently happening on stage. “You should really go now, you’re on in two minutes.”
“You’re doing a good thing, Virgil,” Roman reminded him.
“Indeed,” Janus agreed. “Just do your best. For Patton.”
Virgil nodded, causing the pink bunny ears to flap, turned (drawing attention to the white, fluffy tail) and quickly left the dressing room. By this point, the twins were laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of Virgil’s situation, but Janus was staring into space, wide-eyed and shuddering slightly.
“What is the matter?” Logan asked him.
All Janus was able to respond with was a terrified whisper of, “that could’ve been me...”
Virgil found Patton almost immediately, he was busy calming the excited youngsters (and putting on a facade of calm himself) as he handed out their props.
“Does everyone have one?” he asked, checking to see if they all had everything they needed.
“Yes, Patton!” they chorused, amid the excited giggling. Virgil approached them.
“Thank goodness, you made it!” Patton said, visibly sighing with relief.
“Who’s this?” a little girl asked.
“Oh, right!” said Patton. “Everyone, this is Virgil! Ella couldn’t be here, so everyone who normally would dance on her side of the stage, you’re going to be with Virgil instead!”
“Hi, Virgil!” most of the children chorused, although Patton spotted a few seeming uneasy due to the last-minute change.
“Don’t be worried, guys, Virgil has been my friend for a very long time and he is so nice and fun- he’ll look after you all, I promise.” Patton whispered into Virgil’s ear. “We should take them into the wings now.” He nodded back. “Alright then, everyone! Time to go and stand by the stage! If you normally go with me, come over here! Everyone else, go with Virgil. Good luck! You’re all going to do so well!”
In the wings, Virgil mentally prepared himself. He just had to look after these kids- easy enough, right? He could do this. As they stood, about to go on stage, two of the more extroverted children were already holding his hands. He looked across to where he could see Patton on the other side of the stage, and followed his lead for when to come on. The dance was awkward and he had no idea what was going on half of the time- Virgil knew right then and there that he would never be able to look back upon it without cringing. He was extremely glad when it was over, and he was able to go back to the dressing room and hide away in shame. There, he was met by snickering faces- of course they’d been watching on the TV. Although they were true friends and always there for him when it counted, Janus, Remus and Roman would never pass up an opportunity to laugh at the embarrassing situations Virgil managed to get himself into at dance.
“Great job, Virge!” said Remus. “You make a great bunny rabbit.”
“Not awkward at all,” Janus drawled sarcastically.
Patton returned a few seconds later, and collided into Virgil, hugging him tight.
“Thank you, thank you Virgil! You were there when I most needed you, I couldn’t have done it without you, thank you thank you thank you-“
That had been one of the most embarrassing experiences of Virgil’s life, but it had all been worth it to help one of his oldest friends.

How Remus Started Working For Patton: Part 5
Masterpost
Tw: Remus being Remus/Swearing/Drug Mention/Drinking Coffee
While it took some getting used to, Remus was immensely pleased at his newfound membership to the Anacondas.
Not ONLY did he have another person to annoy the shit out of daily (this position was held by Dee and Virgil exclusively, as well as his brother), but he also was able to pop by and bring Pat on his adventures so he could feel that fuzzy sensation in his chest.
Ree still couldn't determine why he felt that way, but he supposed it was because Pat would listen to him ramble without telling him that it was stupid.
Or maybe it was because he was pretty? He was remarkably attractive, whether in a skirt or in a pair of jeans, and his hair seemed softer than even that dead rabbit Virgil dared him to touch once. Whether that was because the rabbit was dead or because Patton was Patton, it didn't matter. But even then, Remus had met plenty of attractive people! And he didn't usually have this reaction, at least, not one this soft.
Maybe it was the danger? Pat was part of a crime organization. Remus always did like the danger of doing things most people saw as dangerous or scandalous, but it didn't feel particularly high stakes yet. The most risky encounter they had was that damned seagull chasing after them. (Remus was going to kill that bird one of these days...)
He supposed he'd have to ask his brother. Grosssssss. Remus hated asking his brother for advice, it always was some fairytale crap or something similar. But, as Virgil wasn't home, and he was NOT going to ask Patton (that would be embarrassing), Dee (they're brothers) or Logan (he's not too good at emotions), he had no other choice.
So that's why he was standing on the balcony of Roman's apartment, hair full of leaves, sighing for what seemed like the twentieth time as Roman continued to not notice him.
"Oh brother dorkest!~ It is me, your evil twin! Get your gay ass out here!"
That seemed to do the trick, well, to some degree. It at least made Roman jump, turning his head to look through the window at him.
Not too long after, it also caused him to finally open the window! Spectacular.
"Remus you know I have a front door."
"Oh but it's just so much more fun to see your reaction when I use unconventional means! Remember when I used your vent system?"
"Yeah, and you nearly fell through it. To what do I owe the displeasure of a meeting with you?" Despite his words, Roman was clearly biting back a smile.
Hopping through the open frame, Remus began to pace around the apartment, leaving a trail of leaves in his wake. It had been windy outside, he couldn't help it!
"I am facing an emotional dilemma!"
"Dilemma? Who taught you these fancy words? Where is my real brother???" Roman crossed his arms where he stood, leaning up against the wall in amusement.
"Oh shut your butt. Seriously though, I am facing problems and all my other friends are unable to help at this time."
"That's a first."
Remus ran a hand through his hair, wishing he had put a braid in it or something. Normally he'd be fine with it full of leaves, he'd had worse, but right now he was on edge and he'd prefer if there wasn't the crinkly sound every time he moved. "Its with this guy dipshit! This guy that for whatever reason I cannot understand why he enjoys my presence."
With that statement, Roman's demeanor changed drastically. Making his way over to his brother, he sat him down on the couch. "This seems like a problem in which we'll need some coffee. You still like yours the same?"
Ree simply nodded, still stewing over his emotions.
His brother came back holding two mugs, one that was coffee only in name, and the other that was some amalgamation of cream cheese, sriracha sauce, and hot fudge.
He handed the abomination to Remus, sipping his own. "Ok spill."
"So a few weeks back, I met this guy. And I thought it would be like all my other flings ya know? Chill, not much expectations, and ending after about a week. But this guy is just, pure sunshine. He and I flirt a bit, and he's pretty cuddly but as far as I can tell he sees me as a friend. But I don't know how I see him, because whenever I'm around him I get this dizzy feeling and it's like being drunk and taking hallucinogenics at the same time??"
"Ah so you're in love with him!!!"
Remus nearly spit out his drink at how sudden it was. "Excuse me??"
"You're in love!!!"
"That's ridiculous! I don't do that! The most I have is a one night stand! A fling if I'm particularly bored! I don't do 'in love' my dearest bother." Making air quotes with his free hand, he continued sipping his drink, if you could call it that.
Seriously. What was even in it??? It looked disgusting! But for some reason Remus kept drinking it??? What a madman.
"Well, tell me about this guy then."
"What???"
"For curiosity's sake! It's been so long since I've had a relationship so I'm projecting to yours."
"Haven't gotten laid recently?" Remus wiggled his eyebrows, knocking elbows with him to see if he'd spill his drink.
"Ugh!! Vulgar, he'd at least have to buy me dinner first." Ro swiped his mug away before the mountain of whipped cream was disturbed, frowning. "But seriously! What's this guy like?"
"If you want the basic description, he's cute as fuck. If you want the less basic description, he's quite possibly the only guy who I would want to slow dance with since...collage at least."
"Wow, slow dancing??"
"I KNOW right??? He's got these pretty-ass eyes and whenever I look into them I just melt and he's so soft that when he hugs me I'm just a puddle of blood and guts on the floor and I'd let him tear the heart from my chest if he asked."
"Wow. That's...that is a crush. That my dear brother, is a crush!"
"Ugh shut up. So what's up with your life right now? Make any new musicals?"
Roman's face lit up, and then dimmed almost immediately after. He didn't meet Ree's eyes as he spoke, slowly stirring his drink. "Well..."
"Well what?"
"I did, but it was rejected again."
"That's bullshit! Your scripts are amazing! Even if they lack the blood and gore, they're some of the best pieces I've ever read! That cock of a publishing company should be begging for your works!"
"It's really not that big of a deal...they were unpolished anyways."
"I'm going to commit arson soon enough."
"Remus no! I'll just try some of the other publishers. I'll have to work twice as hard, but maybe one of them will like it..."
As Remus looked at his brother, he noticed the dark circles under his eyes and how his body curled into itself, as if it was barely staying together.
"Dipshit...you haven't been sleeping well huh?"
A shake of his head was all Remus needed to set both of their mugs down on the coffee table, lifting up his brother. "You need a break. I don't trust you not to work yourself to death."
"Remus no, I have to get working on the next-"
"Nope! I'm taking you to my pal's place. He'll watch after you. I'm going to work soon, so I'd do it myself, but he's second best."
"Please tell me you aren't leaving me at a bar."
"Nope! Logan doesn't drink. Says it messes with his brain's 'structural integrity' or something."
Roman, used to his antics, simply wrapped his arms around Remus, leaning into him as he grumbled something he couldn't hear.
"Don't worry, I'll grab your keys so you can get back in. He's nice I swear!"
"If I end up dead in an alley I'm haunting you."
"Virgil would hate that. He already thinks we have ghosts in our apartment, you'd be the final straw before he buys an ouija board."
They talked quietly as Remus grabbed some of Roman's important stuff, then heading out. Thankfully, no one bothered them on the walk over, and Remus didn't have much problem knocking on the stained door of Logan's place, which, in his words, 'serves as my workplace as well as my domicile so Remus kindly stop bothering my cat.'
"Hey Locoooooooooo!"
There was banging from inside as his only answer unfortunately, so Remus assumed that he was in his lab.
Time to let himself in! Roman had fallen asleep on his shoulder by now, so he couldn't set him down to crawl through a window. Crap. Might as well use the keys then.
Maneuvering his grip, he managed to grab them from his pocket, stepping in. Entropy, who was sitting on her cat tower, merely blinked at him before hopping off, most likely to go find Logan.
"Lo-comotive!"
"Remus I swear if your roommate threw you out again because you messed with a skunk-"
Ah! There he was. He must have been working with one of his machines again, when he came out to greet him, he was wearing his metal-working mask. "Hi Logie!~"
"Hello Remus. Why does it appear as if you're carrying a dead body?"
"This is my brother! I told you about him before. He needs someone to watch after him so he actually rests for once in his goddamned life."
Roman, who had awoken by now from all the noise, struggled to get out of Remus's arms. "I'm not a child-"
"I can't watch him right now since I have to go work at Hell Incorporated-" He made a face, disgusted at even the mention of his office job, "-so I thought you could?"
Logan turned up his mask, looking closer at Roman, his face...red? Wait what? It was probably because the machine tended to get hot. Or...
"Remus, you want me to nanny your twin brother?"
"Yep! He's an incorrigible little menace that won't sleep unless you force him to or he passes out from exhaustion."
"This is a grown man we are discussing?"
Piping up from his struggle to get down, Roman turned to look at Logan. "Exactl-"
His intended speech cut off as he locked eyes, exhaling a little bit at the sight. "oh."
Glancing between the two of them, Remus noticed the redness on both of their cheeks, and wanting to see none of whatever stirred up his brother, simply pushed him into Logan's twig arms. "I'll be back soon!"
Both turned to look at him, startled looks on both their faces.
"Remus!"
He was already out the door, snickering.
