Thinking about the puppet episode and how freakin softly and gently Virgil tells Logan that it's ok to feel lost and scared, thinking about the episode in Patton's room with Logan & Virgil communicating purely with expressions to check on each other and convey distress, thinking about "Jeeze, L" and "pocket-protector" and "teach" and all the stupid nicknames Virgil gives him, thinking about Logan treating not just Virgil but all the dark sides like actual people (if not slightly inconvenient people) with valid opinions and thoughts to contribute instead of one dimensional cartoon villains, thinking about their debate so long ago and Logan genuinely complimenting his expression of his thoughts even though Virgil hissed at him and made yo mama jokes, thinking about Logan doing grounding exercises for Virgil & Thomas when they get really upset, thinking forever and ever about how close they've gotten to each other and the balance of Logic and Anxiety caring so much for each other

Sanders Sides as things me and my friends have said, PT. 21
Virgil: Roman texted me. "Yknow what your room needs? Corner shelving. Everyone loves corner shelves." And I was like. Yeah. I would love some corner shelving. But, at the same time, was hit with the realization that I'm a 19 year old getting giddy at the prospect of corner shelves.
Logan: he's so right. I love corner shelves
Virgil: I know!!! Me too!
Logan: my corner shelves are so great. I want a third one. But I'm fresh out of corners.
Virgil: you get me. Our souls are intertwined on some deep cosmic level
Logan: because of corner shelves?
Virgil: because of a variety of things. But mostly the corner shelves

virgil, whos your favorite side to hang out with?

Virgil: Logan. Patton and Roman usually expect me to be talking and stuff when I hang out with them, but Logan is perfectly content with rambling and letting me listen to him when I need interaction but don’t want to talk.

Tales From Logan’s Office (Part 3) [Sometimes Labels Shift Series]
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Relationships: Logan & Virgil, Logan/Patton
Characters: Logan
Summary: Virgil invades Logan’s office. (Multiple times.)
This is a dealing with events set after my story Sometimes Labels Fail.
Part 1 Part 2
Logan couldn’t help but smile slightly to himself at the framed picture he’d just put on his desk. Logan didn’t have too many personal artifacts on his desk in his on-campus office. He had a few photos and exactly one trinket (a little tiny snow globe with a klein bottle, or at least a 3-D representation of one, in it). All of these were courtesy of Patton. The new photo he’d just put up had been courtesy of Patton as well. His husband had forwarded him the picture this morning after finding it on the university’s social media.
It was a photo Logan had never seen of his son before, one that must have been taken by some student group during one of the welcome week activities this past August. He was wearing the T-shirt incoming freshman had gotten as a gift for being one of the first 500 students at one of the welcoming activities this year. (Virgil had been very proud of himself for getting it.) Logan could tell it had just been given to him as the shirt he’d originally been wearing was poking out from under it at the neck. He must have just pulled it on over what he'd been wearing.
Virgil had gone to every one of those welcome week activities, mostly for the “free shit.”
In the photo, Virgil’s hair was soaking wet from a water balloon that had at some point been tossed at him. (Logan had been sure to stay far away from the quad that day). There was still a bit of bright orange rubber in his hair.
He looked happy, like any normal freshman. The people around him in the photo, his classmates, his roommate, his professors would have no idea looking at that photo what he’d gone through in his earlier teenage years. It no longer showed on his face.
Well, at least, it did not show all the time.
The new photo sat next to a photo of the entire wedding party from Logan and Patton’s wedding. Three of the seven people in the wedding photo were dead. Logan had put that photo away for years and hadn’t taken it back out until, well, around when he’d adopted Virgil.
The last photo was one of just Patton and Virgil from only a few months after Virgil had come to live with them. Logan had taken the photo himself. Patton was asleep in an armchair and Virgil was looking at the camera curiously. Patton had framed that photo and brought it to Logan’s office himself. It had been the only one on his desk for a while; Logan had never touched it.
The boy in that picture was very different than the one in the photo Logan had just had printed off and framed that morning. Yet, they were the same. And it would be the same boy who would blast his way into Logan’s office 15 minutes from now. He had a 30-minute break between classes, and he apparently considered Logan’s personal space his own personal space.
He was right.

Spiral Out, Try to Float--Logan and Virgil, Hurt/Comfort
Requested by @amateurmasksmith a very long time ago 😭 Apologies for how long this took. School's been crazy!
Summary: Logan has an anxiety attack. Virgil helps him.
Relationships: Platonic Analogical
Words: 610
Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/51837730
The world was spinning. Which, of course, it was supposed to, but not like this.
Logan put his head in his hands, breathing fast. Snippets from his extensive to-do list whirled in his brain. Write current skit. Brainstorm next skit. Schedule meeting with Roman. He squeezed his eyes shut. Deep-clean kitchen. Write next week’s schedule.
Logan knew what he should do, Patton had talked him through things after the last time he’d had an attack like this. Close his eyes, take deep breaths, think of calm imagery. A still lake. The peace of deep space.
He couldn’t seem to get enough control of himself to do any of that now, though. I’ll never get all of it done. Never. He could feel the corners of his eyes begin to prickle with tears. I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I shouldn’t be crying over this.
“Logan?”
Logan’s head snapped towards the door. Virgil leaned against the doorframe, his hands in the pockets of his hoodie, his face contorted in concern.
“Will you—will you—will you close the door?” Logan stammered. Virgil pulled the door shut, walking into the room.
“You okay? Well, I mean, clearly… what’s up?” Virgil sat on the side of the desk; one hand emerging from his pocket to run through his hair.
“I’m—” Logan forced himself to take a long, shuddering breath. “I just have a lot going on.”
“And you’re having an anxiety attack.” Virgil said gently.
Logan took another breath. “No… you have anxiety attacks. I don’t.”
Virgil laughed. “Logan, you absolutely have anxiety attacks.”
“No, I don’t.”
“You’re shaking.” Virgil pointed out. Logan looked at his hand, and sure enough, it was trembling. “You’re having an anxiety attack. It’s okay.”
“I need to get things done. I need to get things done. I don’t—I can’t—it’ll never get finished.” Logan’s breathing got quick again as he refocused on his issue.
“Logan.” Virgil’s hand hovered above his. “Can I touch you?”
Logan’s eyes flicked up to Virgil’s as he nodded. Virgil took Logan’s hand. “Can you focus on me for a bit? Focus on my hand, how it feels in yours.”
Logan closed his eyes, moving his entire awareness to his fingers intertwined with Virgil’s. He noticed every little twitch of his fingers, the weight of Virgil’s hand, the sweat on his palm. His breathing began to slow.
“Good.” Virgil murmured. “Now can you imagine space? Neptune, or the butterfly nebula, or… anything like that?”
Logan almost smiled at that. He’d rambled enough about space that Virgil knew it was an interest of his, but he talked about his favorite planet and nebula more than other topics.
He envisioned the butterfly nebula, its vibrant colors, its ever-shifting forms and shapes. He lost himself in it, Virgil’s hand his tether as his breathing evened out and his heart rate slowed back to normal.
Virgil squeezed his hand. “Logan?”
Logan exhaled, opening his eyes. “Yes.”
“How are you feeling?”
“Better.”
“Yeah?”
Logan nodded. “Yes.”
“Good.” Virgil gave Logan’s hand another squeeze, then released it.
“Don’t—” Logan swallowed. “Don’t leave.”
“I won’t leave.” Virgil gave him a soft smile. “Do you want to do something, and then if you want you can come back to your work? When I’m stressed, I make myself tea.”
“I believe that would be a prudent step to take.”
Virgil laughed a little. “Prudent. Back to your vocab already.”
Logan smiled a bit, too. “Prudent isn’t an excessively difficult or complicated word.”
“I guess, but it’s not the most common word in the world, either.”
“I suppose.”
“Come on.” Virgil hopped off the desk. “Lets’ get you some tea.”

Chapter One
Author's Note: *peeks my head out* hi
You guys over here on tumblr can't see the chapter count, but this is the last chapter! This story has been… shit, at least three years in the making? From the first brainstorm to today it has gone through a fuck ton of changes and updates and fights between me and my own characters when they wouldn't do what I wanted them to. But I really honestly love where it ended up and how things worked out. I hope you did too, and thank you so much for reading! I've really loved seeing everyone's comments and theories as the story goes on, and sometimes I honestly can't believe how many people read it, it's easily my most popular story for this fandom xD
But anyways, thank you so much for reading it! This story means a lot to me, and I hope you enjoy the ending and that you enjoyed the whole thing overall!
Chapter Forty-Three:
Most days, Virgil woke up alone now.  Logan said it was a good sign that he no longer worried enough about Remus’ safety to have to sleep in the same bed with him every night.  If Virgil had a bad night, he’d end up there.  If it was a really bad night, sometimes Roman would already be there.  But those were becoming few and far between, and more likely, Virgil would wake up, get dressed, and head downstairs to find Remus making some kind of monstrosity in the kitchen with Patton.
That was precisely what happened this morning, as Virgil walked downstairs and found Patton had made a horrible mistake in apparently thinking Remus was ready to learn how to make pancakes.
Spilled batter was covering everything in the kitchen, including Patton and Remus themselves.  Currently, Remus was pouring batter onto the griddle, and Virgil cringed and stepped back lest Remus somehow find a way to launch it several feet.
But some of the practice must have paid off, because Remus pulled the bowl up in time to make a pancake that actually looked more or less okay.
“Alright!” Remus called happily, setting the bowl down on the counter and spilling more as he did so.  “Now when do we add the bacon?”
“Bacon is normally a side that comes with the pancakes,” Patton said.  “But we might be able to add some to yours after we flip it.”
“Hell yeah!”
“Language!”
“Good morning,” Virgil called, startling Patton into spinning around.  Remus simply glanced over his shoulder and called “Hi Virgil!”
“Oh, good morning kiddo,” Patton said with a smile.  “We’re attempting to make pancakes.  I’ll admit you were a much less messy student.”
“Thank you!” Remus called, beaming at Patton.
“It may be a while before breakfast, but I think Logan was actually looking for you,” Patton said.  “He went back up to his room, but he should be down any—”
“Ah, Virgil, you are just the side I was looking for.”
“Minute,” Patton finished with a smile and nod behind Virgil.
Virgil turned around as Patton turned to try and explain flipping pancakes to Remus.
“What’s up teach?” he asked, following Logan into the living room.
“I wanted to invite you to the editing session today,” Logan said, setting his notes and his copy of the script for the upcoming video down on the coffee table.
“For the video?” Virgil asked in confusion.  “I don’t normally have much of a part in that process.”
“I am aware.  However, Remus mentioned the other day that you used to do quite a bit of editing for his ideas, back when there wasn’t anyone else around to do so,” Logan said.  “And as someone more familiar with his contributions as I am more familiar with Roman’s, I thought it was only fair to see if you wanted to join.  I think it is an especially good idea considering this latest video will be heavily focused on you and Remus.”
Virgil smiled a little.  “Well, that’s… not a terrible idea, I guess.”
The corners of Logan’s lips turned up slightly, and he nodded.  “Excellent, I look forward to seeing you there.”
“Oh, are you talking about the editing session later?” Remus called from the kitchen, turning and flinging a pancake up as he did so which promptly landed on Patton’s head.  “Virgey, are you going to come?”
“I’ll be there, Re, pay attention!” Virgil called, though Patton was laughing and didn’t seem at all upset.
“Awesome!” Remus called, turning to pour more batter now that the pancake was ruined.
Virgil picked up on Roman’s footsteps just before they started down the stairs, and had just enough time to realize that he was going to be disappointed before he called, “I smell pancakes!”
“Remus is making them,” Virgil called as his head came into view.  “I’d stick with frozen waffles unless you want to wait a while.”
“…That’s probably best,” Roman sighed.
“Hey, I didn’t even add anything poisonous this time!” Remus called from the kitchen.
Virgil leaned back on the couch with a chuckle as Roman headed into the kitchen to make waffles.  Remus made sure to flip a pancake onto his head anyway.
The volume in the kitchen started to raise as Roman and Remus started exchanging banter, and Virgil used the cover to turn and face Logan.  “Do you know how Janus is doing?”
“A little better, I think,” Logan said with a smile.  “He did some acting with Roman yesterday, and didn’t seem to even have a motive beyond having fun with him.  At least, that’s what Roman said he thought was going on.”
“That’s good,” Virgil said.  He shifted so he could push himself up to sit on the top of the couch.
“He’s also started forcing people to take breaks again,” Logan said.  “And if he’s confident enough to do that, I think that’s a good sign.”
“People?” Virgil asked, raising an eyebrow at Logan.
“I did not do anything work-related after dinner yesterday, like we all agreed on,” Logan said, adjusting his glasses.  “I was researching purely for the sake of enjoyment.”
“Yeah?  What’d you find out?”
Logan’s eyes lit up, and he launched into a rant about astronomy that Virgil could mostly keep up with.
They were both there until Remus and Patton managed to finish one pancake for each of them, and Patton headed upstairs to take a shower with a remark that he’d grab Janus on the way back down.  Remus, on the other hand, was attempting to lick the batter off to clean himself, which would be more efficient according to him.
Patton’s showers didn’t take long, meaning about fifteen minutes later he and Janus started down the steps and over towards the kitchen.  Janus sat next to Logan on the opposite side of the table from where Virgil and Remus had picked, but the dark circles under his eyes were less heavy today, which was progress.
“So!” Roman called happily, and everyone turned their gazes to him.  “The video is making good progress, and Logan said he was going to ask Virgil to start helping with the editing…?” he gave Virgil a hopeful look.
Virgil gave a thumbs up around a mouthful of pancake.
“Excellent!  In that case, I believe we’ll be ready to start filming by the end of the week!”
“That’s wonderful, kiddo!” Patton said happily.
“Indeed, I believe we are all eager to get started,” Logan said.  “Not because it is unreasonable that this video is taking longer, but because I think we are all happy to be working on something again.  And I very much look forward to having the figurative record set straight with Virgil and Remus.”
“Good luck with that!” Patton, Remus, and Roman all called at the same time.
Logan looked up at the ceiling, seeming to be contemplating his life choices.
Virgil caught Logan’s gaze and gave a roll of his eyes that Logan returned a grateful smile to.  He was pretty sure they were both glad there was at least one other side to be annoyed at antics with, especially since Janus was obviously hiding a smile behind his hand at the other end of the table.
“When does the editing session start?” Janus asked a second later.  “Do we have anything else to do today?”
“The plan was to begin after lunch, and I don’t believe there’s anything else on the schedule, why?” Logan asked.
“Because I am in dire need of a movie night with Thomas,” Janus said.  “And I was hoping we could fit one in.”
“We’re all eating breakfast,” Logan pointed out.  “It would hardly be considered—”
“Movie night!” Roman called with a happy clap of his hands.  “I’m down as long as I get to use your hat for voting!”
Janus hissed and put his hands protectively over his hat.
“I think that’s a great idea kiddo,” Patton said with a smile.  “I’ll ask Thomas after I finish eating.”
“I’m done,” Virgil called, standing up with his empty plate.  “I’ll do it in just a sec.”
He headed over to the sink to wash the dish as the conversation continued behind him.  He washed the dish and set it over on the drying rack, and sank out to Thomas afterwards with a wave at the others and a call that he’d see them soon.
Thomas was already sitting in front of the TV flipping through Netflix, so clearly some of the idea had bled over already.
He did pause and give Virgil a smile once he noticed him, though.
“Hi Virgil!  It’s not game night already, is it?”
“Nope.  Janus suggested an impromptu movie night before the editing session later.  I came to ask if you were alright with it.”
“We’re going to try and settle on movie all seven of us agree on?” Thomas asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Of course not, that’s why I got here early,” with a mischievous smile.  “I say we watch The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
“That doesn’t sound half bad,” Thomas said.
“Well, look at that, the vote is unanimous,” Virgil said, moving to his spot on top of the couch.  “Let’s get it set up so it can be ready when everyone else gets here.”
Thomas huffed a laugh and shook his head.  “You know sometimes I remember why you were originally a villain.”
“Oh you’re right, it doesn’t get any more devious than rigging movie votes,” Virgil said.  “Clearly I’m the worst side you’ve got.”
Thomas winced, and Virgil paused.
“Too soon?”
“Maybe a bit,” Thomas said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Sorry.  Joke rescinded.”
“It’s okay,” Thomas said with a small smile.  “So do we want popcorn for this movie night?”
“At 9 in the morning?”
“We’re adults, who’s going to stop us?”
“The debilitating social anxiety and shame,” Virgil said.
Thomas gave him a deadpan look, and Virgil laughed.
“No but you make an excellent point,” he said.  “Let’s make the rest of your popcorn all right now.”
“All of it?”
“There are seven of us.”
Thomas laughed, and they both headed to the kitchen to do just that.
Virgil expected it to be a little longer before anyone else showed up, but he was proven wrong when a second after he got out the popcorn he heard someone appear behind him and turned to see Remus.
He was holding something and looking uncharacteristically nervous, which set Virgil’s alarm bells off.
“Re?” he asked, setting the bag of popcorn down.
“I uh, made you a thing,” Remus said, shoving the thing he was holding at him, which looked like a wrapped gift.  “The thing that I was gonna make you before Janus was an idiot and ran off to the subconscious.”
Virgil took in it in surprise, looking down at it.
“If you want to go open that in private I can finish here,” Thomas said to Virgil.
Virgil gave him a grateful smile.  “Thanks,” he said, and he and Remus both sank out to Virgil’s room.
“I hope you don’t hate it,” Remus said instantly, with a casual tone Virgil could read through immediately.
“I’m not gonna hate it, dummy,” Virgil said, rolling his eyes with a fond smile.  “Hang on, let me just…”
He let his sentence fade off and pulled the wrapping paper off the gift, then set it to the side on his desk, and was met with a hoodie.
It was still black, but unlike his current one, this had bright purple patches and was the kind of brand-new fuzzy that hoodies had before you sent them through the wash.
“I figured, you kind of don’t have a color,” Remus said, still sounding very forcibly casual.  “And the rest of us do.  So.  You know, I made you it, and whatever and stuff.”
Virgil looked up at Remus with a smile, and then stepped forward and pulled him into his arms.  “You’re amazing,” he said.  “You know that, right?”
“Obviously,” Remus said, with a slightly choked up tone of voice.
“I love it,” Virgil said.  “Thank you.”
Remus made a small noise but didn’t say anything else, just pulled Virgil closer and squished him.
Virgil squished him back, and they both stood there for a moment being squished, which was as wonderful as always.
Eventually, they pulled apart, and Virgil took off his current hoodie and put on his new-and-obviously-improved version.
“You want to head out to Thomas and watch movies now?” he asked with a smile at Remus.
“Yes I do,” Remus said, starting to grin.  “You have to show off your amazing new outfit.”
“Naturally,” Virgil said with a smile, and he wrapped his arm around Remus’ so they could sink out together.  They had a 9AM movie night to get to, and a really good day after.
And a really, really good life to come after that.

HI :D
Mayhaps platonic analogical? Logan meeting one of Virgil's pet spiders? Maybe?
Idk if you're up for requests rn, but here this is in case you are.
Have fun writing :D
When Virgil Can Share His Spider Love
Warnings: Spiders
Pairing: Platonic Logan and Virgil
Wordcount: 3059
Notes: Yes I am most certainly up for requests. My first post about taking fanfic writing requests was for Sanders Sides, but this is actually my first writing request for this series. Most of them have been for the Owl House. I actually haven't written for analogical (platonic of otherwise) in a while, so this is nice.
This prompt implies that Virgil has more than one pet spider, which was a concept I don't think I've seen before. So I wanted to play with that idea in a way that still stuck true to the initial prompt. This almost gets me to want to write a fic about Virgil acquiring his first spider pet actually. I'm also considering one about Logan getting a pet. Maybe another fic related to this one, sometimes I get inspired.
It's almost common knowledge at this point that Virgil  has a pet spider. So he doesn’t think much of it. When Logan approached Virgil one day out of the blue, his pet spider was not a topic he expected to come up.
Logan was all business. His posture straight and face neutral. Not an unusual look for the logical side. His eyes had a direct and focused look to them as he faced Virgil. That said he had an intent purpose for coming to the other.
Virgil tensed instinctively. His first response to anything always being to stay on guard.
Logan’s hands were folded behind his back and he nodded to the anxious side.
“Virgil. If I could have a moment of your time, I wanted to ask something of you,” Logan said.
Yeah, that wasn’t helping at all.
Virgil leaned back a bit and nodded.
“Uh…yeah Logan? What’s up?”
Logan tilted his head slightly at the reaction, but his face didn’t twitch.
“Apologies if my approach has distressed you at all. It is nothing bad, I can assure you.”
Now that should reassure him in some way, but this was Virgil. Hopefully the others would understand by now it’s not that simple to calm him down.
“Uh huh. Just out with it, Logan. What did you want to ask?” Virgil asked.
Logan nodded and straightened up again.
“Right, yes. I have been informed of the uh spider situation in your room.”
Ah, yes. Virgil knew what he was referring to.
After the mini-plushies video, Roman had seen Virgil's use for mini-Roman. A companion for his pet spider. Roman had not approved, not wanting any version of him to be near a spider. So he got Remus to give Virgil another spider, so that could be the first one’s companion. Little did Roman know, the new one was a male spider. Seeing as the original was a female…you can see where that went.
Roman had even more incentive to avoid Virgil’s room than he had before. Virgil loved having many spiders in his room though. These spiders were all over the room now. The webbing from the Halloween special was no longer a one-time thing. Since there were so many spiders around. Most of them were still small, as the majority were still babies. They were actually hard to keep track of because of that. Another thing that made the other sides unnerved.
“Ah. Yeah? What about it?” Virgil asked.
He wasn’t sure why Logan was asking. It didn’t affect him. The other sides rarely went into Virgil’s room anyways because of the affect it had on them.
“Well, uh,” Logan shifted. The first break in his perfectly logical posture.
Now Virgil narrowed his eyes, but in confusion.
Logan cleared his throat.
“I haven’t heard of such a phenomenon happening with another side before. Which, of course I suppose makes sense. Seeing as this is a new thing, and we only know of other sides of Thomas. Not to mention you are the only side here with an affinity for spiders. As most of them have a fear of them due to Thomas’ arachnophobia…”
The rambling…was Logan nervous?
“Logan,” Virgil simply said.
Logan stopped mid-sentence and then adjusted his tie.
“Ah, right. Well, anyways, I found myself curious about the state of these spiders in your room. As I often am with anything out of the ordinary in the mindscape when it’s not solely imagination based. It only makes sense as the aspect of Thomas for logic. That I would want to know as much as I can, especially if it pertains to himself,” Logan said.
“Logan, you don’t have to justify being curious about something,” Virgil said.
Something shifted briefly in Logan’s face, that was gone in a blink. Logan adjusted his glasses.
“Of course not. I wasn’t doing that. I don’t need to do such a thing,” Logan said.
Virgil found himself wondering if Janus would call Logan out on that were he around. Virgil decided to let it be for now though.
“Okay. Anyways,” Virgil gestured for Logan to get to his point.
Logan nodded again.
“Right, yes. Is it okay with you that I enter your room and observe the spiders in there,” Logan asked.
Virgil blinked. He wasn’t sure why, but that was not what he expected Logan to ask.
Maybe to ask a bunch of questions, given Logan’s love for knowledge. But to actually want to see them? Nobody had ever expressed an interest in something of Virgil’s like that before. He didn’t blame the others for fearing spiders, of course. But it was nice that someone actually wanted to know more about the creatures. And not just want to get rid of them right away.
“Is that all?” Virgil found himself asking.
Logan nodded.
“Yes. I wanted to see how the many spiders behaved in an enclosed environment such as your room. Not to mention if their behaviors compare to real spiders at all. I'm curious to see what that could mean for Thomas’ subconscious,” Logan said.
“Okay. Yeah, you can watch them. But under one condition,” Virgil said and held a finger up.
Virgil could see the excited gleam in Logan’s eye once Virgil had said yes. Logan rolled his shoulders back and re-straightened his posture. But Virgil could still see Logan’s excitement.
“Yes, of course. What is it?” Logan asked.
“You must not harm any of them,” Virgil said more seriously. The others’ dislike of the spiders was not the only reason no one else had gone in since so many spawned. Like Virgil said, most of the spiders were so small. His difficulty keeping track of them made Virgil nervous as well. He wasn’t versed in the proper way to take care of so many spiders. They had started to crawl around before he could get them in an enclosed space for their own safety.
He didn’t want to chance anyone else stepping on them. Especially when he was barely sure about being able to avoid such a thing himself. Plus, even though he doesn’t think anyone would want to upset Virgil, he is well aware of fight-or-flight when it comes to seeing something you are afraid of. He doesn’t think anyone would want to upset Virgil. But one of them could smack a spider instinctively without meaning to.
Nobody had complained about the ban from his room for the time being. Yet, Virgil could see Logan being more careful. Logan had the science knowledge on how to be around critters. And would be more cautious in Virgil’s room anyways.
“If you so much as swing near a spider, I will ban you from my room and from all the spiders,” Virgil continued.
Logan nodded.
“Of course, Virgil. I promise, I mean no harm to your spiders. I will be extra careful,” Logan said.
Virgil’s shoulders untensed and he sighed in relief.
“Okay,” Virgil said. He gestured for Logan to follow him and headed to his room.
He stopped in front of his door and turned around. Then he waved for Logan to step back some. Logan furrowed his brows in confusion but stepped back anyways.
“Okay. So first, I need to make sure none of them are in the way. So there is a clear path to walk in without a chance of anyone getting stepped on. I also ask that you not come in here without me,” Virgil said.
“Of course, Virgil. This is your room. I wouldn’t enter without you unless you said I could.”
Virgil nodded and then carefully opened the door. He quickly looked on the ground and then stepped forward, closing the door behind him. He wanted to make sure none of them could escape from the room. Spiders running rampant through the mindscape was the last thing they needed.
As Virgil looked forward on the ground, he squinted and kneeled to get a better view. There were some on the floor. Looking like little black dots with tiny legs scattering about. He reached forward and gently brushed them to the side. Most of them reacted instantly, scurrying away. Some heading to the closest webs and jumping away. The ones closest to his hands started to climb onto his fingers the moment his warmth came near them.
He sighed at those ones and held his hands to his chest as he stood up. Then he moved his hands to the closest webs at his shoulder level and lead them to cling onto those instead.
Virgil scanned the floor another time to be sure and then turned to the door.
“Okay Logan! You can come in now. Please close the door quickly, and still watch your step the whole time. They move around a lot.”
The door opened and Logan swiftly slipped inside. He closed the door almost as soon as he was in. Honestly, Virgil was impressed.
Logan leaned against the door for a moment. Then he looked down in front of him, before he followed Virgil’s path to the center of the room. Logan walked at a slower pace though as he was looking around at the room.
Virgil’s room tended to have a lot of spider webs and cobwebs, as he liked the aesthetic. But there were way more now. The newer ones were more distinguishable. They had nicer designs and the designs were easier to see. Most of them didn’t block walkways thankfully. But the walls were covered in spiderwebs, along with some corners. And the webs were covered in spiders. They were scurrying about, spinning webs, and crawling along the furniture as well.
Logan looked around himself a lot, as though he couldn’t decide where to focus on.
“Fascinating…” Logan said, “I assumed that others had vastly overestimated the amount in here. Given the other sides’ wariness of spiders.”
Virgil snorted at that.
“Ah, no. The spiders reproduced fast.”
Logan hmmed at that. as he stepped forward to the wall right to their side. He observed a particularly intricate web hanging there.
“Do they always have this much energy?” Logan asked. His thinking face on.
Virgil thought about it.
“I’m not sure actually. There’s always some sort of movement going on, except maybe at night. It’s hard to determine if it’s the same spiders or not though,” Virgil said.
“Yes, I can imagine the sheer amount of them would make discerning that difficult. Now a 24/7 camera on them and careful observation may help with gathering data for that,” Logan muttered.
“I’m not putting a camera in here, Logan,” Virgil said.
Logan waved that off, “Yes, of course not. I was just thinking out loud,” Logan said.
Virgil hmmed at that. He knew Logan wouldn’t breach his privacy, but even bringing up such a thing made Virgil nervous.
Virgil took a breath. Logan continued to mutter to himself aloud. He leaned in closer to the webs than most people tended to, while being mindful not to get stuck in one.
A small hiss got Virgil’s attention, and he glanced to his bedside table. He smiled when he saw his first spider companion sitting there. Virgil walked over and then kneeled so he was eye-level with her.
“Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you,” Virgil said softly.
He had no idea where her mate was though. Probably on one of the ceiling webs or something.
He reached forward slowly before he started to pet her.
He heard Logan come over to them, and then sit on the bed. The bed was one of the few places the spiders didn’t take over in the room. Unless it was night time and they decided to follow mom cuddling with Virgil. Before he has to shoo them away that is.
Virgil shifts so Logan can see, before Virgil puts a hand out in front of the bedside table. He gently coaxes her crawl onto his hand. Virgil felt her little legs tap lightly against his hand as she scurried on. He stood up with her in his hand. Then he turned to face Logan.
“Would you like to meet her?” Virgil asked.
Logan blinks. “Meet her?”
“You know, like pet her and maybe hold her,” Virgil said.
Logan looked at the spider with an awed look.
“Ah…if it is truly okay?” Logan asked.
Virgil nodded and sat beside the other on the bed.
“Yeah, I trust you. Plus, I’m right here in case you change your mind.”
Logan nodded.
“Alright.”
Virgil holds his hand out, and Logan reaches forward hesitantly. He pets her softly, barely even touching her.
“I can’t promise they would all be this chill with petting,” Virgil said. “Even if the others weren’t too small for that anyways. I don’t know them all yet. I haven’t even really tried naming the new ones, as I wouldn’t know how to keep track of which one was who.”
“What is this one’s name then?” Logan asked.
Virgil felt his face warm. Nobody had asked about her name yet, so he hadn’t needed to admit it.
“…Charlotte.”
Logan paused and then smiled.
“Like from the book?” Logan asked.
Virgil sighed.
“Yeah…I named her when I was young, alright? And I thought of the spider friend from the book when I saw her…” Virgil muttered.
“You don’t need to be embarrassed, Virgil. It’s cute,” Logan said, still smiling.
Virgil groaned.
“I don’t want to seem cute,” Virgil said.
“Ah, of course. Having one sentimental name for a pet doesn’t have to take away from your uh, quote ‘toughness’,” Logan said.
“I’ll give the other spiders much cooler names,” Virgil said.
“Of course. I would expect nothing less,” Logan said.
They went back to just focusing on the spider after that.
“It has been a while since Thomas has touched such a creature. Especially given his arachnophobia. I myself never have on my own. I don’t interact with the imagination much,” Logan said after a moment.
Virgil nods.
“I understand. I don’t go out of my way for the twins’ creatures. But it is nice to have my own little companion like this,” Virgil said.
Logan nodded, petting her softly again.
“Yes, I recall there are many positive benefits to having a pet. I can uh,” Logan clears his throat again, “I can see the appeal.”
“Did you want to hold her?” Virgil asked.
Logan inhaled.
“Yes,” He said.
Logan held his hands out.
“Be very careful with her,” Virgil said.
“I will,” Logan said softly.
Virgil quietly encouraged her to crawl onto Logan’s hand. She was much more hesitant to crawl onto Logan’s hand. Charlotte stepped forward at a slower pace as though cautious about the new surface.
Virgil saw Logan refrain from jolting at Charlotte’s first little taps onto his hand. He only twitched briefly. The touches of the little legs tickle, especially if you’re not used to it. Logan’s eyes widened as he looked down at her. After a moment of no more movement, Charlotte continued to crawl onto Logan’s hand.
He slowly brought her closer to his chest, and put his other hand up near the first as a wall to keep her from falling. She spun in a circle on his hand.
Logan’s mouth twitched into a smile at that.
“I think she likes you,” Virgil said.
Logan glanced up, but didn’t look away from her for long.
“How can you tell?” Logan asked.
Virgil shrugged.
“Well for one thing, the fact that she has stayed on your hand. She also hasn’t tried to bite or attack you at all,” Virgil said.
“Was that a concern?” Logan asked.
“I don’t know. Like I said, this hasn’t come up much. She at least doesn’t dislike you or see you as a threat. Probably because she trusts me,” Virgil said.
Logan nodded.
“Do you think she is more intelligent than a real spider? Along with the others around here?” Logan asked.
“I’m not sure. It wouldn’t surprise me though. Considering Thomas’ fear of spiders, these ones are surprisingly friendly. More so than I would expect,” Virgil said.
“That could make it easier for them to exist in the mindscape,” Logan said.
“Perhaps,” Virgil said.
Charlotte stayed put for a moment after doing her spins. She crawled side to side for a moment. But then decided to get brave and started to climb up Logan’s arm.
Logan gasped and froze, clearly unprepared for that.
“Charlotte no!” Virgil exclaimed. He wrapped his hands around her and pulled her off of Logan before she could get past his elbow.
She then proceeded to attempt crawling around his fingers.
“Gah!”
Virgil struggled to get a hold of her again. He ended up using a scientific gentle pinch to hold her still before setting her back down on the bedside table. She moved side to side again before starting to climb up the wall to get to the web there.
Virgil sighed and turned back to Logan.
“Sorry about that. She decided to be in an adventurous mood all the sudden,” Virgil said.
Logan laughed a little.
“It’s fine. Honestly, it was a bit amusing once I realized what was happening. I was only concerned it would be harder to watch out for her when she was crawling about,” Logan said.
 Virgil nodded.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. Which is why it was better to get her off of you. In fact, I think spider visit time may be over now. They may not seem like it, but spiders can actually get quite shy. I wouldn’t want to chance how they would be once they get tired of being around a new person,” Virgil said.
Logan nodded. “Of course. I’m grateful for any amount of time I got with them.”
Logan walked out of the room, Virgil behind him to close the door carefully again.
Logan smiled at Virgil once he was in the hallway.
“Thank you, Virgil. I know that was a bit of an unusual request for you. I don’t take your trust for granted,” Logan said.
Virgil smiled a bit shyly at him.
“No problem, Logan. It’s not that big of a deal. Let me know if you ever wanna swing by again to visit them. Maybe you can help me find a way to name the new ones without going crazy,” Virgil said.
Logan nodded at him.
“Of course. I’d be honored.”

Maybe He Does Care
Platonic Analogical
CW: Minor panic attack and some self-deprecating language.
Virgil slammed the door to his room so hard that it caused the pictures to shudder on the walls.
Thomas had a fight with his friend, and he was now paying the price. He pressed his back against the corner of the wall and slowly sank to the floor.
'Come on, Virgil, you need to breathe. Snap out of it!' Virgil forced himself to think as his breath became ragged. He clutched his shirt as if that would magically calm down the swirling panic in his mind. His breaths were short, he was sweating rapidly, and all the thoughts in his head were swirling around like a gale force wind.
Why did Thomas have to get into that argument? He needed to stop trying to be the hero all the time. It hurt like hell because it always fell into Virgil's domain. Thomas then worries about all the things he did, how he approached the situation, what he could have done differently, and then he simply moves on.
'It is what it is.'
Virgil, however, had to deal with that aftermath. As always, he was never good at processing this sort of thing. It sends him into a spiralling mess because all he can do is blame himself. He must have done something to create that argument.
He was useless.
He hurt Thomas.
He always hurts the others. No wonder they hate him, that they don't care.
"Shut up. Shut up. Shut up!" He screamed out loud in an attempt to frighten the swarming thoughts away.
A soft knock at the door snapped him out of his panic. Part of him wanted to scream, kick the door down, and tell whoever it was to go away… but he couldn't. He didn't want to be alone.
"It's open." He sighed while calling out in defeat. The door delicately and mechanically opened.
"Ah, Anxiety. Um… Anxiety?" It was Logan, the tone of his voice showed apparent confusion. He walked straight to the bed where Virgil normally sits, and the tone of voice was confirmed by the look of confusion on his face when Virgil wasn't sitting there. It was enough to make Virgil laugh.
"Down here, Pocket Protector." He waved weakly as Logan turned sharply and frowned at Virgil before sitting opposite him on the floor.
"I don't think I need to tell you that the floor isn't exactly the most comfortable place." Logan remarked as his face remained stoic, and Virgil rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, well. Panic attacks don't really let you prioritise comfort." Virgil retorted with an excruciating amount of sarcasm, and Logan raised an eyebrow.
"Yes. I could tell that something was wrong, but I didn't wish to broach the subject in case you were uncomfortable." There was an unusual amount of care in his voice. It was a little unsettling.
"You can drop the act, I know you don't care." Virgil looked at the floor, part of him wanted Logan to stay, part of him wanted Logan to go. When the only movement was Logan shuffling closer, Virgil looked up in surprise.
"I know that we haven't exactly seen eye to eye, Anxiety - but I do care about your well-being, just like the others do. What can I do to help you?" Logan's voice was sincere, and Virgil was almost blown away with the kindness he was being shown, despite the problems he's caused.
He took a moment to think. It was probably about time he let someone help him.
Maybe he doesn't have to be alone.
