Hi!!! I keep re reading your pics of the superhero au and I wanted to know more stuff if your okay with it. Could we get more about Joel's powers? It seems he was pretty strong back in his hay day, but what was he capable of that made them force him into retirement so early?

Of course I'm okay with it! I'm happy to talk more about it! :-D

For anyone who sees this and is unfamiliar, V's referencing my "Even Ice Walls Fall Down" fic! (And subsequent one-shots filling out the universe a little)

So, Joel/Lore!

He is one of the strongest superpowered people to have ever popped up in the city. Tango/Deepfrost is, like, literally an extremely close second (if not tied, but since their powers are so different, the ranking is subjective).

Joel has three powers, which is part of what makes him so powerful. 1) He can fly (Superman style) 2) He can shoot lightning from his hands 3) He's invulnerable to, like, almost everything

Joel's invulnerability comes with the side effects of insanely high stamina and strength, considering he can't injure himself by overdoing it

He manifested when he was 19 and as of the time of the main AU, he's 31, so he's had his powers for... 12 years (did I math that right? i think so. it's late) and in that time, the only time he feels pain is when Jimmy's super strength overpowers his invulnerability's limit. It does have a limit. All of their powers have limits (except maybe Grian's... but Grian is a god pretending to be a mortal, not an actual superpowered human so he doesn't count). Because, yeah, Jimmy really is that strong

Now, because Joel manifested his powers at 19, he couldn't get hurt while he was a reckless 20-something. So he was extra reckless, especially when it came to being Lore. The division as we know it in the AU was nowhere near as structured as it is by the time Jimmy gets there, and no one was really regulating the superheroes. There weren't many of them, and they had no handler or supervisor or person trying to make sure they all behave

And Joel's invulnerability made him... destructive. Not always through his own actions

Because, see, when Joel was first starting out, Doc was still in the city. He had not yet left and taken over a country and established a Perimeter around it. And Doc had a lot of beef with Joel. Partially because Joel was an arrogant early-20's idiot (affectionate) and Doc wanted to knock him down a couple pegs (and Joel definitely egged him on and mocked with little singsong "You can't get me!" type childish taunts)

Doc also really wanted to see what the limit of Joel's invulnerability was, and so he kept making bigger and stronger inventions to try and even just barely break Joel's skin. And those bigger, stronger inventions were starting to do a lot of structural damage to the city. Because Doc was throwing absolutely massive weapons at Joel and Joel's lightning isn't exactly safe for normal people to be around either. He can control the voltage of his bolts and the more frustrated he gets, the stronger his lightning becomes as a defense mechanism. Which was very dangerous.

And let me be clear on something: Joel did not want to retire from being a superhero active in the field. He loved it. He loved the praise and the fans and the validation and the pride of a job well done

But Lizzie was going to run for mayor and they were married at that point and the constant destruction of Lore and Doc's fights were going to be hard on her campaign (because who wants a mayor whose husband keeps damaging her city? etc.)

For clarification here: people knew Lore and Lizzie were married or at least romantically involved in some way (because there were many pictures snapped of Joel dipping Lizzie for a kiss after particularly brutal fights), but didn't know at that time that Lore's real name was Joel.

So anyway, since Lizzie wanted to run for mayor and Joel's superheroing was going to jeopardize her campaign, he hung up his cape (figuratively? IDK. Maybe his super suit had a cape. Haven't thought about it). Because he loves his wife more than he loves being Lore.

I wouldn't necessarily say he was "forced" into retirement. He didn't want to retire, but he also knew it was the best course of action for the city's safety. To trust the city and its citizens to the other heroes who didn't destroy as much

And Joel is, at the moment, the only hero in the division with a public civilian identity. I think when Lizzie was campaigning for mayor and he retired from hero life, that was when he revealed to the city that his name is Joel.

After Lizzie won the mayor election, Joel settled into his position at the head of the superhero division and shaped it into how we see it today in the main timeline of the AU. He became the heroes' handler/supervisor, he trains new heroes when their powers are similar enough (he did not train Deepfrost, though. He was 20 when Tango manifested and they didn't get along terribly well. Their personalities were both strong and clashed). He handles logistics and dispatch. He's got other people helping him, but he's at the top. He wasn't the only one who made the decision to have heroes register their secret identities with the division, but he and Lizzie were the ones to approve it

Joel was 24 and barely into his role as the head of the superhero division (he was not in the field for very long) when Tango left/was kicked out of the division - and the two had a rather violent final encounter at the division building. The reason Tango even held his own as long as he did against Joel's invulnerability during their altercation is the fact that Tango is a genius, a gifted strategist, really nimble, fast, very tricky, very slippery (as Jimmy/Sheriff would attest in a heartbeat), and quick on the draw with his powers. Tango's darkness actually trumps the light given off by Joel's lightning (meaning even if Joel shot a bolt of lightning through Tango's cloud of darkness, he wouldn't be able to see anything), and that definitely saved him from getting fried hard to shoot what you can't see and Tango can control how the darkness moves

So yeah! TL;DR, Joel's powers and his mutual hatred with Doc probably could have destroyed the whole city and he decided it was best for him to stay out of the field after Lizzie wanted to run for mayor

Somewhere between when Tango left the division and the beginning of "Even Ice Walls Fall Down," Joel mellowed out somewhat - and matured a lot. That said, if Deepfrost ever went back to the division, Joel and him would still probably throw hands on sight

9. I Can't Decide(kick)

For the wip title game :)

Hi!! Okay, confession time, that doc/wip is more-or-less notes than any actual writing. I'm not even sure what characters/fandom I want to include in it yet lol (ignore that I created that wip doc like 4 months ago while it's just collecting dust) Basically, though, it's a Superhero/Superpower AU!! The premise I have in mind is like:

- Sidekicks are people training to be/interested in becoming superheroes or supervillains through a sort of temp agency

- Sidekicks are assigned to a local hero or villain in their designated district/area/town based on either whichever the sidekick would rather be or where their powers/abilities/skills would be more fitting and get to work under them to basically shadow their temporary bosses around

- The temp job pays well, so naturally people aren't just gonna quit without reason even if they don't particularly like their assigned boss (think like a VERY good salary)

- Enter the main character, who - by some computer error - gets assigned to the town's local hero AND villain simultaneously (with shifts that don't overlap naturally since this agency is very good about not working their employees into the ground unless the temp wants overtime willingly)

- The hero and villain both fall for the sidekick, who starts off oblivious but grows to realise reciprocate those feelings (my interpretation will naturally end in polyamory have you even met me)

- Hero and villain start fighting over sidekick who is Just There(tm)

My idea is for more of a comedy style fic but tbh it could be a bit drama-filled

Also if this idea/AU inspires anyone seeing this feel free to make your own interpretation with your own fandom/ship and reblog it here or tag me I would LOVE to see what anyone can do with this since it is very much a backburner "I'll get to it when I get to it" fic for me haha

some selections from the vault (and snippets from my wip fic)

so! for those who are not following me on twitter, i recently went through my drafts for some strifehart content that i hadn't yet shared publicly! i wanted to quickly cross post so you all can see them too :)

putting it under a cut just so i dont clutter up the tag again :)

the one i had written the most for was the more recent kink meme off dreamwidth--specifically, the prompt for a superhero/vigilante au! i hadn't written very much for it (basically just the interaction below), but i had a general idea of cloud and leon's backstories. at some point, leon would show up at cid's repair shop where cloud happens to work and there'd be some fun to be had there!

next was what i think was originally what i had planned for one of the prompts from strifehart week 2018; i think it was "witch" or "fantasy"? this one is a little more out there, sorry

but at the time, i'd recently read a fic for fire emblem fates called beyond the sea; in it, magic was kind of a rarity and the people who got power were given a brand, or star sign. i was going to do a KH-flavor twist on it for strifehart. the idea would be that cloud, squall, and tifa all worked as soldiers in a government that was hunting down these "witches" and turning them into weapons or tools of a sort. the three main ones were:

-aerith, with the mark pf phoenix; focus on healing magic -riku, sign of ifrit; mostly can only control fire as he's so young -squall, who had a rare double mark of ixion and leviathan; wind/water/lightning based magic focus, so he can basically create a hurricane at will

the idea was for cloud and tifa to find out they've been ordered to abduct a kid and defect, especially after finding out their friend aerith is also someone wanted by the government. squall, meanwhile, has had enough of hiding and kind of loses it when he finds out riku is the latest kidnap victim. they all end up traveling together, and...i had no real plans aside from that. part of why this never ended up being finished/posted, haha. the most coherent part was below, though i jumped ahead to try and write cloud seeing squall going all out with his magic

the third is a twist on spirited away/the boy and the beast/song of the sea.

kid squall ends up in a fantasy world after being separated from his sister ellone, and is found/taken in by werewolf zack and dryad/nymph aerith. they have to hide that squall is a human and pretend he's a baby werewolf and he ends up getting found out on a big festival day. but he'd end up on a quest with cloud, who was a selkie, as a way to keep him/zack/aerith from being banished. no concrete plot ideas for this one either, unfortunately, so it's not gotten anywhere, even if i had a cool scene in my mind for squall getting outed as a human :( (but i had a track off the boy and the beast ost scoring a big fight zack gets into when squall gets found out)

i had no other major fics planned aside from my current WIP, but here's a snippet from a drabble i was fiddling with where leon gets sick and doesn't realize it, just because i like how i used to write his interactions with yuffie

ANYWAY here's some snippets from/about my current WIP, a song without its melody.

first up is actually a piece i had wanted to be in my main longfic, a little bit of levity, but ended up being cut. it was intended to go after the scene i have of leon and sora in song (since it was a scene that i had to cut from levity that i managed to fit back in), but with how leon's interactions with roxas and xion have changed, i had to leave it in my scraps doc! it is, generally, the vibe i kind of want for leon's relations with roxas and xion respectively

next are just some snippets from upcoming sections, so please look forward to it! :3c

Help I created another rarepair.

Andrew Garner x Leonard Samson

AKA the two superhero psychiatrists.

I haven't thought much about Garner yet (in my AU, inhumans don't get their mark until Terrigenesis, so he would have gone his whole adult life thinking he had no mark), but I've been thinking about Leonard Samson a lot.

Especially if his mark says Lash.

Because that's a weird mark! Imagine a psychiatrist who takes an academic interest in weird soulmarks. And then maybe he gets extra into documented cases of marks that are emblematic of violence. Lance, Nick, Chase, maybe even Mark. Gunner, Hunter, Cleaver, Dirk, Cannon.

I like to imagine young Leonard coming to terms with his wacky mark and learning about other people with marks like his, mostly historical because of taboo of revealing ones mark, and looking for patterns. Are people with violent marks more likely to become violent? Or are they drawn to violent partners? And how can he help people come to terms with the darkness in their souls using his profession?

Anyway I think they'll meet in the late 20teens, after Garner has become Lash and I figure out a plot to heal him. Maybe Leonard will be Doc Samson by then, maybe not. And they will provide marriage counseling to my other superhero couples, who are significantly more damaged. These two will have most of their issues untangled by the time they're together.

Something for the Amnesia AU I developed a while back. It involves your oc Joe.

Even though Becky was a superhero, she couldn't help but want to hide behind her dad when this menacing figure came to their home. It was a bit hard for Becky to accept that her dad was a super villain even though he had apparently been for a while and she had gotten used to it. She sadly hadn't remembered any part of that life yet. What she was really uncomfortable with were all these villains coming into her home. Of course they didn't know she was Wordgirl and they were only coming by out of concern for their fellow villain's daughter current memory issues, but that still didn't help Becky feel any better. Now this behemoth of a person had come to check on her. Becky couldn't help but be intimidated a bit by this man's height or the dead stare of his face even though his eyes and smile displayed comfort and sympathy. "Hey there Becky." The man waved at her. "How's the hero business been for you?" Becky's eyes widened with shock and horror. How did this villain know that she was a super hero. Becky now immediately went behind her dad, confusion and fear filling her brain. "I..I don't know how you know my secret identity you vile criminal. But you can't do anything to me right now because I am pretty sure it is against the villain code for villains to attack the family members of other villains at their homes." Wordgirl shouted, trying to sound fearless despite what she was feeling on the inside. The man looked confuse and weirdly hurt by Becky's remarks as he turned to face her dad. "Um Doc. What's going on here?" The man asked with concern in his voice. Dr. Two Brains sighed as he rubbed his face before speaking. "Yeah, sorry about that Joe. Unfortunately some bad stuff happened while you were gone visiting your dad."

Aww Becky he's friend not foe!

I assure you it's just Joe.

I absolutely love this so much. Poor Becky being afraid of harmless Joe, I feel so bad for her. And him as well. It's been awhile since someone mistook him for a villain.

This is so good I love it.

Hi there! I just read your So Mun docs bc I was scouring on tumblr to see if anyone has written anything for The Uncanny Counter because I’m so hooked and there is nothing anywhere it’s literally just you carrying this fandom’s writings on your back. I have a request and it might sound stupid so you can delete it or not write it, anyways could you write a fic of either So Mun meeting or dating reader who is like Spiderwoman? She isn’t a counter or anything just someone taking care of criminals, (she has the iron spider suit from that is shown in No Way Home worn by Tom Holland’s Spider-Man bc that suit is so cool with the spider legs anyways) The reader spots the counters beating up an evil spirit and thinking it’s a criminal joins in on the fight with her webs and webs up the evil spirit for them (she has webbing, supper strength and ‘spider senses’ just like Peter’s in the Spider-Man films) and the counters are just like ‘???who are you and how did you do that???’ and like maybe while fighting non spirit fights she joins the counters as well sometimes on fights or if they need her (she hasn’t shown her face to them yet idk where you wanna do that in the fic) and you can take it from there about what happens between her and So Mun or how he sees her face for the first time etc again if this sounds dumb you don’t need to write it but I just wanted to get the idea out of my head haha🫶🏻🫶🏻

oh my god????? OH MY GOD??? I ACTUALLY LOVE THIS IDEA SM!!! im a big fan of spiderman even tho i haven't watched any of those movies i read sm peter parker fanfic and know the plots of basically all the tom holland spiderman movies (ive ever written a spiderman au for beomgyu cause it is my fav superhero to brainstorm with). i'm def def gonna write this i think its such a fun idea and the idea of like superheroes being in the same universe as counters is so cool!!! i just wanted to respond immediately and let you know that i love the idea since u seemed uncertain :( but its such a great idea and i can't wait to write since im rly hooked on writing a lot of so mun fics rn!! (i hope ppl don't mind but i am quite literally like you said, feeding the entire fandom and i am the ONLY one 😭 but i like doing it and i just hope my fics are good enough to satisfy everyone <33) thank you so much for the req and hopefully i can write it and put it out asap!!!

omg politics can i ask what the politics au is about

okay so politics au is the doc title for the cabinetduo ''superhero'' au. what i wanted to do with it is to focus on the world building of a world where the traditional mcyt superhero format exists, but more on the superhero side of it!!!

in my head, it was divided into 3 parts, the first of which was quackity pov, and detailed the latest election in manburg, with quackity running as up and comer schlatts running mate, secretly doing everything to hide the fact he's powerless with dangerous, experimental drugs etc, while slowly befriending young recruit tubbo (who also happens to be powerless, but can be open with it as long as he doesn't have a public facing position and stays good at computers etc.) he wants to make the world better for people like him, and he has to make sacrifices!! anyways they win, and things do not get better. schlatt is not the candidate quackity thought he was, things go to shit, and tubbo is. well. manburg festivalled, at least to q's knowledge.

meanwhile tubbo has been doing his best to infiltrate the government while hiding his mind reading power, but gets caught, manburg festivaled etc, but is secretly saved at the end by scrappy rebels/vigilantes wilbur and tommy, who rescue him and he joins their little operation, while everyone else thinks hes dead. quackity goes on, desperate and convinced to uncover all the corruption in tubbos honor, gets himself in some hot water, and is found injured and in disgrace by karlnap, recovers, meets up with tubbo in a way i havent figured out yet, and they figure stuff out, win etc yas.

(who in turn have their own prequel drafted out focusing on nosy reporter and shapeshifter karl jacobs, who runs the kinoko times, a small, independent up and coming newspaper, along with his good friends callahan and tina!! hes currently undercover/spying in the hero tower, trying to figure out exactly whats going on by spying on the top hero group, the dream team. however, he gets caught by sapnap in spider form after george tried to smash him, who takes him outside in a cup, and catches him after he loses his hold on his shapeshift and heals him with his healing powers yayy. they slowly start to fall in love, and karl learns even more than he planned on about the hero industry, and eventually, helps sapnap desert. they've been there in hiding ever since, at least until they find the disgraced vice president bleeding on their doorstep)

oh hi yes superhero aus my beloved i've only written three oneshots and one of them i don't like at all and it's not accurate to the system im using now. the two i do like are focused on gem & scott

(do you KNOW how many superhero au things i have. like. i have put way too much time into this. i have an overcomplicated spreadsheet and a color-coded doc with everyone AND EMOJIS TO SIGNIFY THEIR GROUPS. i have full detailed descriptions of suits and paragraphs on how powers work. i have several thousand words of backstory/worldbuilding and entire thought-out secret organizations. i have like. five seperate supervillains and three big hero teams and every mcyter i see gets added to this thing. and even with this i am probably never going to write out most of it)

my favorite part? dark/light/neutral-aligned powers.

Every power is linked to either dark-aligned, light-aligned, or neutral. People with light powers are expected to be superheroes, and dark powers are expected to be villains. This leads to a WHOLE LOT of angst because of course not everyone with light powers WANTS to be a hero (and so they become villians to spite the system they hate). Not everyone with dark powers WANTS to be a villain (and yet they are forced to by a world that hates them).

I still love this concept. I've just recreated discrimination and high expectations in superhero au form but like. still.

thank you for the positive vibes and good luck wishes!! they have been received and i edited and reworked the first 4.5k of the assignment! (most of it had already been edited previously, so don't be too impressed lol)

5. how many wips do you have? how many fandoms/pairings are they for? depending on what you count as a "wip", i'd say somewhere btwn 30-40ish? all 5sos pairings have more than one wip, and i've got a couple hp wips (and one doctor who drabble, but that's finished so it doesn't count)

11. do you write scenes in order or do you jump around? i usually start from what i think is the beginning at the time and then start jumping around when i either run into a wall or am inspired by something that will happen later!

12. do you outline your fics? if yes, how detailed are your outlines? how far do you stray from them? it depends! most fics i start have a general idea of how they'll go, but they rarely get an outline (unless you count one sentence in a notes app as an outline, but i don't) as for proper outlines, i have three aus (my big superhero au, we gotta make a decision's parent au, and my crazy scifi au) that have "proper" outlines, which range from extremely vague to very specific. i have yet to stray too far from any of them, but i'm also not super far along so we'll see! (my 4th of july au and my baby blue au also have docs that are vaguely outline shaped, but i'm not counting them for multiple reasons, chief among them being that they may never be written)

35. what's your favorite fic you've posted? ohhh gosh. i really do love what if i'm weak (and i need you tonight?) i think it's one of my strongest writing-wise, i love the characters, it's my 2nd most popular fic,,, yeah idk i just think it's nice :))

43. is there a trope or idea you'd really like to write but haven't yet? lots! there are so many that are in wip-land, but one that hasn't even gotten a doc yet is a longer fic that's both a quarantine au and a slowburn and a fic that centers around the character's ace-ness. i've been thinking about it for a while now and i think it's something i need to sit on for a few months/years before i start it, but hopefully someday it'll be written :))

54. what's the fandom/pairing distribution of your posted fics? it's very sad :(( i've got 3 malum, 2 lashton, 1 mashton, 1 cake, 1 malum friendship fic, and no muke or cashton :(((( i can't wait to release more stuff with other pairings i don't like how unbalanced it is :((

72. what's your favorite writing compliment you've gotten? today in my creative writing class i got a very nice compliment from a classmate that made me very soft(tm). he said something like "we've talked about how great your ideas and concepts are in your story and that's true, but the real strength is the characters, who are so real and strong that they help me believe everything about this world you're building". and i just. :') i mean any compliment on my writing makes me melt but i think characters are the most important part of a story and for him to say that??? i did not propose but it was a close thing ksdjflkdsjfljsd

77. why do you enjoy writing fanfic? i like the freedom it gives me! i like that i can write characters and not have to worry about telling people what they look like or their general vibe bc they already know! (i hate describing how characters look lol it's the bane of my existence) i like the community feeling! i love how people can just comment on what they liked best and know that i'll read it! i like that so many different kinds of writing can fit under this one umbrella! i just love it!!

Um... I think I made a BatFam AU while half-asleep...

Ok so, I wake up, and it seems last night I wrote out a messy explanation of a story that I just might have to write now... but I've read literally one Batman comic (Death in the Family), and all my knowledge comes from either YouTube, Wikis, and stories on AO3...

Hyperfixation is fun, isn't it?

Anyway, here's a copy-paste of what I wrote in my half-asleep state at around 2:00 last night (note, the doc itself is simply titled "C'mon. You Know."):

Okay so

AU: No superheroes. Bruce Wayne is just a rich dude who starts taking in orphans because reasons.

First up was Dick Grayson, who he adopted when he was 9.

7 years later, he added 13-year-old Jason Todd.

3 years later, 12-year-old Tim Drake.

2 years later, 14-year-old Cassie Cain.

And finally, 2 years after that, he learned of and gained custody of his only biological son: 10-year-old Damian Wayne.

Only a year after Damian joined the family though, Brucie boy died, presumably in a “tragic accident”, but it’s quickly revealed that someone’s altered his will, leaving his kids with none of the family’s fortune; not even their home.

Dick, who’d moved out a few years ago, now has custody of his 3 youngest siblings, and only a small, 2-bedroom house in Blüdhaven to care for them in.

Jason, who for a variety of reasons had run away at 15, and had stayed away for the most part, reluctantly agrees to move in Full House style to help Dick, while all the siblings work with their ex-butler/grandfather figure Alfred, and family-friends Jim and Babs Gordon to figure out the mystery of their father’s death and will.

Tensions run high, Dick’s having a breakdown, Jay’s struggling to Dad (verb), Tim’s gay and spiralling, Cass struggles with speech, and Dami’s emotionally stunted. Yay!

So we got:

Dick, 24-year-old officer of the BPD. Adopted at 9 years old after losing his parents in a circus act gone wrong, Dick stayed with Bruce until he was 18, when after a heated argument he left for college. He made up with his father over the next couple years and stayed in contact, often visiting him and his siblings.

Jason, 21-year-old, works part-time at a gym in Crime Alley, Gotham City. Adopted when he was 13, after several years of living on the streets after his step-mother’s death by overdose and his father’s “peace out” moment. Discovered the identity of his birth-mother, ran away to go find her because teen angst and increasing fights with Bruce, then she was found dead a week later (her ex was charged and found guilty) and while Jay couldn’t be found, much of the blood at the crime scene was his. Then, randomly, he contacted his family again 4 years later, at 19. Didn’t move back in, and things were quite tense between him and Bruce, but still hung out with his siblings outside the home (though he was angry at Tim at first, for being adopted less than a year after his “death” and "replacing" him).

Tim, 17-year-old honours student. Adopted when he was 12, but actually started hanging around the house a little before that, as Dick was tutoring him after school. This helped both Dick, and Bruce to discover how neglectful and emotionally abusive his parents were, and Bruce literally had to sue for custody for this kid. He won.

Cassie, another 17-year-old. Adopted at 14, she’d been on the streets much like Jason had, but of her own volition… to a point. She was scarred after seeing her father do… something, when she was only 8 years old (she’s repressed so hard that even she doesn’t remember exactly what), and so ran away. This thing traumatized her so much that she lost her ability to speak for years, and has only just started learning to talk again. Instead, she usually uses ASL.

And Damian, an 11-year-old ball of politeness, good manners, and pure, unadulterated rage. He was born nine-months after his mother date-raped his father, and was raised in quite an… odd way, by said mother and her father. Long and short of it: crime family, but not a close one. He rarely if ever actually saw his mother, and when he did she wasn’t overly affectionate. He spent most of his early days being groomed to be his grandfather’s heir, only for their entire organization to be captured by police when he was 10. It was now when the emotionally stunted, spoiled brat was put into his father’s custody.

Main issues:

-Dickie boy stressed ooooooouut, gotta be a breadwinner and keep his siblings together and safe

-Jaybird technically never made up with Bruce; they’d actually made plans to get together and talk things out, but then, y’know, death

-Timmy, poor thing, is balancing school, work at Wayne Enterprises, and investigating the case of his father’s death, and has seemingly forgotten what sleep is. Adding on the fact that Bruce being dead means his (granted, chosen) role as heir to the company seems much more real (even despite the fake will, he's confident he'll figure it out and find the real one), he’s not doing all that great

-Cassie, sweetheart, has been emotionally traumatized for years, and now just has more trauma to add to that with Bruce being dead. She’s getting better, but struggling

-Dami, baby bird, is filled with more rage than usual, and is endlessly worried about all the animals in his “zoo”; Alfred remains at the manor (though he has not met his new employer), for the sole purpose of making sure they stay fed, watered, bathed, and more or less cared for.

So, to sum up, Dick’s working to support them and trying his best, Jay’s Dad-ing while Dick’s at work since his hours are more flexible, Tim hasn’t slept in years, Cass needs therapy and hugs, and Damian has a growing army of stuffed animals to fill the gaping hole in his life where his zoo used to be (since he could only bring Titus and Alfred the Cat with him to Bludhaven).

Will they be able to figure out who had their father killed and get their family legacy back?

Hell if I know, I haven’t written it yet. Probably. Get off my back.

Little adopted mc surpring papa Lucifer for his birthday

I saw your post about requests, I hope I'm not to late! I fell in love with your Lucifer & Diavolo AU where they adopt a child! Any wholesome moments with the kid & them or the brothers/undateables would be so heartwarming! I especially love Beel so maybe Beel, as the biggest and with a big love of his family, seeing the kid and being like "so tiny, must protect" and becoming like her personal giany buddy 🥺❤

Ahhhh that au is so wholesome. I'm happy to revisit it. Note that the reader is a toddler-aged kid.

It's a normal evening with your loving parents. At this point, you are used to life with the demons.

It's chaotic at times but they all really adore and spoil you.

One evening you are plotting a surprise party for Lucifer's birthday.

Knowing that Diavolo just can't keep a secret you rope the brothers into helping you.

"Uncle Mammon, I need your help." You know your very well-trained puppy eyes will do the trick.

"Umm sure… what do you need?" Mammon has a bad feeling already.

"I want to surprise Papa with a party but it's so hard to do. He is like a superhero who knows everything." You pout a little in frustration.

"Hearing you call him Papa makes me feel so uneasy." Belphie sighs from the couch.

"More like a spy or something." Satan chimes in.

"Belpie, don't be grouchy and if he is a spy then he is super cool." You are still unable to say ph but nobody minds that.

Both just shake their heads.

"Mammon, will you help me?" Your puppy eyes get even bigger.

He shifts around uncomfortably. "Well I'd love to but sadly I'm super busy."

"But Uncle!" You use your best pouty face.

Causing Mammons face to twist in agony. "Trust me little one, I'd help but Lucifer has giving me this task so I have to do it." He obviously feels bad about it.

You cross your arms. "I'm pretty sure my power is bigger than his."

"Well, yeah of course. You are the most powerful one without a doubt, but Lucifer can be pretty scary if I don't do my job." Mammon fully agrees but he knows what punishment will avoid him if he doesn't do as Lucifer told him to do.

"Papa isn't scary at all." You huff.

"Now, now no reason for that big frown on your face." Asmo chimes in. "I'm just the right demon for you. I happen to have some time and as your most awesome Uncle I will help you with that party of yours." He talks to you with a big grin.

"Wow, you are the best Asmo! You beam at him with a big smile.

"Totally unfair," Mammon mumbles.

"Too bad Mammon. I yet again get to save the day." Asmo grins in a winning manner. "So what are your plans?" Then he faces you.

"I want to make loads of flowers and string them up and then I want to make a huge cake for everyone to enjoy and we also need music. Oh and snacks and games of course." You remember your own birthday parties with glee.

"I see you have some pretty big plans. You can count on me for the decorations. I ask Levi for some music. He has a big collection that even Lucifer envies. For the cake, I'm sure we can entrust Barbatos with that." Asmo is already fully in planning mode.

"That sounds like everyone else will do the work, but I want to do it." You huff lightly.

"I see, in that case everyone will assist you. Satan, you and Belphie will help us with the flowers." Asmo can see that you won't budge so he quickly changes his plans.

"Hey, why me?" Belphie grumbles.

"You make great flowers." You try to encourage him.

"I'm sure mine are better." Satan shoots back.

"Great, I will tell everyone to come and bring supplies. Let's make some room over there." Asmo whips his phone out and sends an SOS to the other brothers.

"Yeah, I will make a sample so they all can look pretty." With great joy you make your way over to the table.

"Some need this more than others." Belphie glances at Mammon.

"Hey, I saw that, and let me tell you my paper flowers can win prizes." Mammon seems to be seriously offended.

"Say that when you aren't too busy slaving for Lucifer." Belphie teases Mammon.

"Just wait and see. Once I'm back I'll show you!" Mammon basically rushes out of the room, almost running into Beel on his way out.

"Huh what was that about?" He is carrying a big box with him.

"Don't mind him. Just join us. We are making flower decorations." Asmo just shrugs, already halfway into an elegant-looking paper flower.

"Alright, but why are we making them?" Beel places the box down, there are party and flower-making supplies thrown into it.

"I'm throwing a party for papa's birthday." You tell him with great enthusiasm.

"I see that's a great idea, but why Isn't Diavolo doing that?" Beel knows that it's usually his duty.

"He is very busy, so I took it on myself to do it." You are feeling troubled thinking about your busy dad.

Beel nods with understanding. "I see then we need to make sure it's a great party."

"That's the right spirit Beel." You smile at him.

"I'm not that good at making these though." Beel sighs at the paper.

"It's pretty easy, let me show you." With great pride you show Beel how to make them.

Beel copies your moves and manages to get a pretty decent flower.

"Good job Beel. I knew you could do it." You pat him on the arm.

"You are very good at this." Asmo smiles gently.

"I'm trying to become reliable." You smile sheepishly.

"That's a pretty big word there, little one. Great job learning that one." Satan nods with a smile.

"Thanks I'm trying to use bigger words but it's not easy." You sigh slightly.

"No worries you are getting there." Satan encourages you.

You nod feeling motivated.

"Have you made new friends lately?" Asmo asks curiously.

"We got a new kid the other day but they are shy. It's hard to play with them." This only bothers you slightly.

Asmo nods in understanding."Just give it time. Kind of like with Levi."

"What about me?" Levi just enters the room, like on command.

"We were talking about a new kid who is shy." You look at Levi, wondering what his advice might be.

"I'm not shy, just socially awkward." Levi looks troubled.

"Isn't that the same?" You don't have an idea.

"Children's words are indeed sharp tools." Levi sighs deeply.

You look at the others seeking for help, but they all shrug.

"Come here and make some flowers," Belphie commands Levi over.

"Ummmm okay." Levi sighs. "I got the music you wanted, Asmo."

"Just put that next to my makeup." Asmo points over to the couch.

For a while you all make flowers until you decide it's enough.

"So next we should make a huge cake. I also want decorations. Maybe a castle cake would be great." Your eyes sparkle just thinking about it.

"Hmm, that might be an issue since we don't have that much time." Satan knows it can take days to make a cake like that and there isn't enough time at all.

You pout, feeling very disappointed.

"How about cupcakes? We can decorate a bunch of them. They will look great and it's easier to make a whole bunch of them for everyone." Asmo brings up a great plan.

"That would be awesome but a birthday needs cake." You agree but aren't fully satisfied.

"How about we make a special cake for Lucifer and cupcakes for everyone else?" Beel thinks it's a reasonable compromise.

"That sounds great. I will make his cake and you all can make the cupcakes." You agree to that plan.

"I will help with that. The cupcakes would be too tempting anyway." Beel knows you can't do it by yourself.

"And I keep Beel from the cake." Belphie chimes in with a smile.

"Sounds great. Do we have all we need?" You look at Satan.

"We have enough for the cake and some cupcakes. I will go and buy more ingredients while Asmo and Levi can handle the first batch of cupcakes." Satan has a very reasonable plan.

"Okay." You agree with a nod and all of you walk over to the kitchen.

It's a bit chaotic giving everyone space to work but you somehow manage.

In the middle of mixing the dough, with the help of Beel, you come to a sudden realization.

"We forgot about candles for the cake." You feel pretty upset by this realisation.

"It's not a big deal. We can't put enough candles on the cake for Lucifer's age anyway." Belphie shrugs.

"It's very important. Without candles, it's not a birthday cake." You sternly look at Belphie.

"Hmm we could put one candle on it would that be enough?" Beel seems to understand that this is important to you.

"Dad said it's rude to remind adults of their age so that would be a good idea." You remember Diavolo saying that when it was Asmos birthday.

Beel nods. "I will get it for him. Belphie you take over supporting the little one."

"No, I need to get the right one. I will go!" You blatantly refuse.

"Okay, then I will assist you with that." Beel can't send you alone and he knows you can be pretty stubborn so this seems to be the best solution to him.

You nod.

"Can you take over for me Belphie?" You look at Belphie.

He yawns. "Sure, have fun you two."

"It's not fun, it's an important mission!" You sternly speak.

"That's right." Beel agrees with a nod. "Do you want to ride on my shoulders or hold my hand?" Beel looks at you with a smile.

"I can walk alone too." You turn away from him.

"I know but I will feel lonely." Beel gives you puppy dog eyes, he is almost as effective as you are.

"Fine, but only because I don't want you to feel lonely." You pout slightly and then take his big hand.

"Thank you. We will be off Belphie." Beel nods towards Belphie, who just waves to us while mixing the dough.

Together with Beel you make your way to the store.

You stand in front of the candles to pick the right one.

Beel gets distracted for only a moment by a new chocolate bar.

That is the moment when a demon approaches you.

Your parents have taught you thughruly what you are supposed to do if a stranger approaches you.

"Hey, are you all alone here?" The demon has a friendly tone but his demeanor doesn't match that.

You keep your distance and shake your head.

The demon comes closer. "Not wanting to talk?"

"Stay away." You loudly and sternly tell the demon off.

The demon seems to find that pretty funny.

You get ready to yell out loud and glare at the demon.

Then the demon looks scared and walks away.

You huff proudly and look for Beel. Who without your knowledge has seen the demon and glared at him, scaring the demon.

"Everything alright?" Beel is worried about you.

"Yeah, I'm a strong one after all." You puff your chest.

Beel pats your head. "Definitely."

"Oh, this candle is good, what do you think Beel?" You suddenly see a purple candle.

"Looks perfect, let's get it." Beel smiles and grabs the candle, he is just glad that this didn't affect you at all.

You pay and return to the kitchen.

A lot of cupcakes are done by now and Mammon has also returned and was promptly put to work, distracting Lucifer.

Belphie had passed out but the cake is all ready to be decorated.

You beam at the sight. "It looks great."

"All thanks to your hard work." Beel smiles and starts to prepare the frosting.

You apply it, creating a very colorful cake in the process.

"What do you think?" Proudly you show the cake to everyone.

"Looks great." Beel approves.

"It's so stylish, I'm jealous." Asmo takes a picture of the cake.

Everyone else also approves.

"Now all that is left is to decorate the room." You start to feel tired but can't wait to see Lucifer's face.

"You can leave that to us." Levi can tell you are getting sleepy and is just trying to help you.

"No, let's go." You wave him off, feeling responsible for the party.

Everyone just sighs.

So you all start to decorate the ballroom, Barbatos helps with this part as well.

It takes a while and your tiredness is getting worse but you are stubborn and push yourself.

The brothers get worried about you and look at each other.

"Hey, can you help me, little one?" Belphie is sitting on the couch.

"What do you need?" Despite being tired you are eager to help.

"I need a nap, but can't get to sleep so can you help me pass out?" Belphie yawns to support his claim.

You are a bit wary at his request but you know he needs his rest. "What do I have to do?"

"Just lay here next to me until I pass out." The couch is pretty big so it's not an issue.

You hum a bit, wondering if this is a ploy to get you to rest.

"Pretty please?" Belphie uses his sleepy puppy eyes against you.

He learned well.

"Okay but only for a little bit." You feel a bit reluctant but join Belphie anyway.

"Thank you." Belphie smiles and you pass out next to him before you even know it.

Once you wake up the whole room is decorated and looks very beautiful.

You look at it in awe but then feel disappointed since you didn't do everything on your own.

"H,,ey little one." Asmo is the first to notice that you are awake again.

"You did such a great job with this all." Barbatos smiles at you.

"But you did the most." You pout.

"No, you did the most. I mean come on we can't do anything like this without a fight." Mammon sighs.

"Wow, that's surprisingly honest of you Mammon." Satan laughs.

Mammon huffs. "Well anyway, it's time for you to do the most important job anyway."

You light up instantly. "What job is that?"

"Getting the birthday boy of course." Barbatos calmly states. "I will get Lord Diavolo."

"Ah of course. Get ready everyone, I'm right back." You basically runoff.

"Be careful when running," Barbatos yells after you, you wave him off.

You dart around the corners to Lucifer's office. Almost crashing into him.

"Hold on right there! What's the big rush, little one?" Lucifer seems confused.

"Papa, you need to come with me right now!" You don't have time for explaining and grab his hand.

"Is there an emergency?" Lucifer wonders what the rush is about.

"No, just come." You feel impatient and start to drag him behind you.

"Alright, I'm coming." Lucifer figures that everything will make sense soon and simply follows after you.

You keep dragging him until you reach the ballroom. "Close your eyes."

Lucifer does just that, still feeling very baffled.

You open the door. "Now you can open them."

Lucifer removes his hands and sees the colorful decorations.

"Happy birthday Lucifer." Everyone cheers loudly for him.

Lucifer is pleasantly surprised.

"Did you all prepare this for me?" He is pretty surprised.

"No, it was all the little one." Asmo winks at you.

You don't want to lie though. "We did it all together. My uncles helped me a lot."

"I see, thank you, everyone." Lucifer smiles at everyone.

"Hell froze over for all I know," Satan mumbles lightly.

"Let's cut the cake, I'm hungry." Beels stomach rumbles.

Everyone giggles at this.

Diavolo brings the cake in. "It looks so lovely don't you agree?" He smiles brightly.

"It really does. You did that, didn't you?" Lucifer smiles gently at you.

"I did." You admit shyly.

Lucifer blows the candle out and compliments the cupcakes before having a slice of cake.

"Do you want a slice too little one?" Lucifer gently asks you.

"But it's your special cake." You want to have some but feel rude about it.

"It is even more special when I share it with the people I love. Diavolo will have a slice as well." Lucifer cuts you a piece.

"Alright, then I will enjoy it." Your eyes sparkle seeing the cake.

Everyone enjoys the party after this.

At some point you pass out, no wonder after all the work you did.

"Look at that being all peaceful," Diavolo whispers.

"Did you have any idea about this party?" Lucifer wonders about it.

"No, they must've heard that I was too busy to plan anything fancy this year." Diavolo feels a bit bad about that.

"Let's bring them to bed." Lucifer carefully picks you up.

In your sleep, you snuggle close to his chest. Softly snoring.

"Our child has a bright future ahead of them. I wonder what kind of partner they will get when they are older." Diavolo muses quietly while walking beside Lucifer.

"I don't want to hear anything about partners for the next 1000 years." Lucifer sighs.

Diavolo chuckles. "I want to see them happy, but I have to agree."

They both place you carefully in your bed. Leaving you to dream about your next great adventure.

idea 1: superhero AU ;) Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth struggles to deal with the reappearance of Phoenix Wright, a defense attorney from the past intent on ruining his win streak, and the mysterious emergence of a vigilante dubbed the 'Blue Knight', who is determined to expose a corruption in a justice system that Miles can no longer deny.

an excerpt:

Wright had inexplicably disappeared just moments before the robbery. He'd claimed he was in the bathroom the entire time with stomach troubles, but could he have...Miles narrows his eyes. Black hair. A fine jaw. An equally distinctive propensity for primary colors. Could he be the Blue Knight? Is it possible?

Across the room, Maya Fey beats savagely upon the man's back, and Miles watches Phoenix Wright cough up a french fry.

Absolutely not, Miles thinks.

idea 2: turnabout papoose -- essentially a one-shot where the prosecutors of LA grieve their most difficult opponent yet: Phoenix Wright (and the baby strapped to his chest)

an excerpt:

"Herr Edgeworth...I am in need of your help."

Miles straightens behind his desk, tea clinking into his saucer at the desperation in Gavin's voice. "What is it?" he asks, perturbed. It was rare for Klavier to ever face adversity in the courtroom, and rarer still for the man not to relish its challenge.

"It is the Corazone case, Herr Chief. I am loathe to admit defeat, but I simply cannot bear it any longer." Edgeworth's eyebrows crawl to his hairline. "I'm requesting that another serve in my stead for the duration of the prosecution."

"Gavin," he begins, blinking slowly. "...Isn't Justice the defense for this case? Forgive me, but I was under the impression you enjoyed sparring with him." The last is said with an unavoidable dry twist and minor irony.

"If only," Klavier says, aggrieved. >>>

<<< Miles didn't know what he was expecting, but it wasn't this.

Phoenix's presence itself isn't particularly shocking. In fact, upon learning he'd be given the opportunity to face the man once again in court, he'd even looked forward to the proceedings. Across from him in the courtroom, the man is virtually unchanged: blue suited, vested, pocket watch chain gleaming. A bothersome little curl to the edge of his mouth. Phoenix is the same as ever, but Miles swiftly surmises that he is not the problem.

What is problematic, however, is the very real, very tiny baby strapped to Wright's chest.

"My client is a single mother, your Honor. You know how expensive childcare is these days?" Wright shakes his head, disapproving, and the Judge nods solemnly.

"True, very true. When my daughter had my first grandson..."

"Your Honor," Miles says, voice painfully clipped. "If we could please begin."

"Patience is a virtue, Mr. Edgeworth," the Judge harrumphs, eyes narrowing, and he swallows a grrk.

"Mr. Prosecutor is a big scary meanie, isn't he? Yes, he is..."

With what can only be deliberate eye-contact, Phoenix dips his head and presses a kiss to the fuzzy head of the baby at his chest. Practically rehearsed, the infant in question giggles, horribly delightful, and the entire courtroom swoons in unison. Miles inhales, and subsequently crumples a day's worth of case notes in his fists.

He understands now. It seems he was wrong. Phoenix Wright is a no honorable man. He is a cheat. Worse, a conman.

All right, since I’m in the middle of a flare and have to work manual labor for the next four days despite it, I figured I would make myself -- and hopefully other people -- laugh by talking about one of my favorite OG Captain Marvel stories. Namely, from Whiz #50, with a cover date of January, 1944, meaning it was probably produced sometime in late 1943.

I want to share it because why not, this is some absurdly charming stuff.

I’ll get more into why it’s one of my favorites as we go, in the form of running commentary. So, full story (with said commentary) under the cut. If you wanna just read the story without my commentary, stick to the pictures. XD

First, let me say that the cover and splash page definitely live up to the story, though the cover’s a bit more sensationalized. But the premise is pretty damn simple: Our intrepid hero and his newsboy alter ego are on vacation. Cap decides to go swimming. It goes hilariously wrong and thus ensues a bit of a madcap adventure, no puns intended.

Second, the fact that Cap and Billy are depicted as essentially different entities makes what Billy does next the ultimate trolling:

Gee, airing out the stolen laundry on the radio? Really? I’ll leave it up to you, gentle reader, whether Billy actually was trolling his own alter-ego for ratings or whether he was just innocently sharing the story while his other-self winced quietly in whatever ether-space he exists in when not front-and-center.

Either way, I love it.

I get a kick out of the fact that Billy’s monologue is that he’s no dare-devil. One, because that’s so obviously not true in any way -- (that kid is awesomely, sometimes recklessly brave on the regular even without Cap) -- but two, because the bridge is actually named Dare-Devil Bridge. We aren’t given any reason why this dangerous potential death-trap is there, hanging without so much as a gate or a warning sign or anything, because we don’t need one. It’s there specifically for what happens next.

Which, of course, is Billy calling in Captain Marvel, who does some light complaining about the situation Billy left him in. There’s no bite to it, which I find adorable -- Cap actually does get frustrated once or twice in other issues with Billy calling on him for mundane stuff, though he’s never mean about it -- but there is a bit of the sense of being put-upon there that’s just-- I dunno, cute. It’s something I miss a lot in the various post-crisis takes on the character: That duality, that difference in personality, and the way each of them responds to different situations. Often, they’re on the same page, but notably, sometimes, they aren’t.

Someday, I promise, I need to sit down and write how I think that works between those two without being a truly frightening mental illness manifested, what with them being the same person but not the same person. Because I have so many ideas, and I’ve only had since the early-2000s to percolate them. LOL! But until then, just enjoy this.

Here is another reason why I love the Golden Age Captain Marvel books and why I love this specific story: This is an absolutely normal, mundane thing to do. It’s the human thing to do. These aren’t the actions of some super-serious superdude. These are the actions of a pretty shockingly normal guy doing something mundane. And a whole story is built around that normalcy.

It’s cute. It’s funny. It’s the reader already knowing that he’s getting himself into a situation that he absolutely could have avoided, but also completely understanding how it happened anyway. It’s pretty brilliant writing: I say this as a pretty damned good writer myself.

So much of the reason why, I think, Cap was so endearing as a hero is that humanity. He’s got pretty much god-tier power in the Golden Age, once his powerset is established. He’s utterly invulnerable to all physical harm while powered up. But-- he’s human. He knows he’s human. He acts like it, and decides, “You know what? I’m going skinny-dipping.”

He and Billy are both characters it’s so easy to empathize with.

Also, a reminder that the art under Chief Artist C.C. Beck is really, really good. (He had a whole stable of artists to help produce this stuff!) Ignoring registration issues on the printing press, the actual line art is amazingly good; proportion and perspective and consistency.

But anyway--Cap does get to enjoy his swim. But, then, oh no.

I love the idea of a world where the prime hero -- and he definitely is in that world -- can take off his suit and go swimming, and where someone else is bold enough to steal the damn suit off of him. The first time I read this, I started laughing here. Not at him, but at the situation he’s found himself in. At the idea that some random passer-by saw Captain Marvel’s costume and went yoink!

Another thing I love about this particular story is how much Cap and Billy have to work together, just by necessity. Like-- it’s just really good. But anyway, thank everything Billy Batson is on the ball, coming to the rescue.

Sheer bad luck via the weather keeps this story rolling along in hilarious misdirections. Realistically, that uniform probably wouldn’t be all buttoned together (we see Cap take off pieces of it aside the pants in other issues, including socks!), but who cares? The point of the story is that giant bear rug on the floor’s gonna get put to use.

Man, when have you ever seen Superman creeping naked through some stranger’s house wearing nothing but a random polar bear because he went skinny dipping? No wonder these comics sold so well. This next panel is when I start wheezing, though, and pretty much keep wheezing.

“A lady, too! I’ve got to get away from here!”

I’m dying at this point. That’s such a characteristic response, and yet, I think that’s why it’s funny.

Anyway, because this is an excellent story (I mean this without an ounce of irony, too), our dynamic duo stumbles across a plot in play to rob the hotel they’re staying at.

Here’s a big part of why this is such a good tale: Everything fits. Even when it isn’t explained, like Dare-Devil Bridge, it still fits. Why is the tree down? Because there was just a thunder storm, the same one that blew Cap’s suit into the room with the gangsters.

I don’t know if this is Otto Binder’s story, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the least. It’s a complete story told in relatively few pages that accomplishes everything it’s meant to.

Anyway, using foliage as cover, Cap gets to be heroic----then Billy gets to get back to the business of trying to stop the robbery of the hotel and get his heroic alter-ego dressed again. Which leads to a rather adorable and funny scene of Billy not only trying to describe what Captain Marvel wears, but what size it would need to be tailored in.

(Cap is supposedly a 44 for a suit coat, we find in some earlier appearance, which would refer to his chest size. So, an XL for shirts and suit-coats. He’s a big guy, but he’s actually not a hulking huge guy. But more on that later.)

I love the fact Billy tries to like-- use himself as a model. Maybe in another ten years, kiddo. Billy’s actually pretty buff for like a 12-14 year old, he’s not a scrawny kid at this point, but yeah, no. LOL!

Another thing I also really, really love about this style, though, is that they draw Captain Marvel as being strong, as having a powerful build-- but not as a dehydrated body-builder with deep cuts. He’s got human proportions, regardless of his strength; he’s got a human build, not a superhuman one.

C.C. Beck had a lot of things to say about superheroes who were just muscles on top of muscles, all clearly defined, and he didn’t like it. As someone who first got into comics in the early 90s with Jim Lee’s X-Men--

I do get Beck’s point. I not only get it, but I really highly approve of it. He maintained to the end that he drew (and oversaw) the Marvel family to look like high school and college athletes, and I can see that. I think the one person who’s gotten it right in the modern era is Evan “Doc” Shaner, who did Convergence: Shazam! He not only nailed that strong-but-not-hulking build for Cap, but also how young he looked. College-age, in fact.

But anyway, enough digression into art and why I like this better than most modern takes on the character. Also, that’s just a cute set of panels.

I also like that there wasn’t an easy fix there. Cap’s still in his not-birthday suit, and Billy’s still stuck running around trying to solve the issues at hand. Next comes some other really good panels:

-snorts- He’s locked in. Yeah, that’ll hold him.

Anyway, what I really liked here was again that tandem working; Billy can’t punch through a wall, but Cap can. Cap can’t crawl out while he’s au natural -- well, he could, but he’d probably rather die first -- but Billy’s got no such issue. It’s just fun when you get to see them doing something like that. You have to really think for a minute about the trust each of them must have in their alter-ego.

ANYWAY, we get the rare treat then--

--of Captain Marvel not only yoinking a dude into a dark room, but then stealing his clothes. Except, not his underwear. Because that’s nasty. LOL!

I love that in this series, you do actually get to see him wear other stuff. Go incognito. Get his red suit messed up enough to take it to a dry cleaner’s, wherein he ends up dressed like a musketeer after. Jerry Ordway’s series is, I think, the only other time we see Cap not wearing his famous suit, but it happened enough in the Golden Age that it wasn’t a shock.

Like, I hate to be the one to say this, but I do think DC drops the ball often on just how much you can do with Captain Marvel (or Shazam, depending on timeline, but that’s the wizard’s name to me so mostly I’ll stick with the original name) if you unbend enough to. It’s not just the costume change, or the duality of him and Billy being the same but not, but also his inherent, essential humanity.

But I am digressing again, sorry. XD I just feel strongly enough about these versions of these characters to spend hours writing this.

Anyway, only a single panel later:

And that’s that! Billy Batson has just outed his own alter-ego’s most embarrassing moment to whomever’s listening to WHIZ radio -- thank everything podcasts and the internet weren’t available then, ha! -- and we get to see a recounting of a very fun story.

Like I said earlier, I love this one for its essential humanity. The hero got himself into this mess, he and Billy got him out of this mess, and stopping the criminals was actually just kind of a lucky stroke thrown in there. But even though Cap got himself into this, the story never treats him like he’s stupid. It never treats him like he’s some kind of idiot. You’re laughing, but-- not in a mean way.

I love how human it is. How complete it is. How genuinely funny it is. It’s a thousand times more funny when you genuinely love and respect Captain Marvel and Billy Batson, too.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this dissertation on a skinny-dipping hero. LOL! I enjoyed sharing it with you.
