This Week in BL - Alan & Jeff Forever!

Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.

Jan 2024 Wk 4

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 10 of 12 - I am a little concerned that this is getting too big for its britches, rather like Phaya’s recently recovered snake… shall we say? Adding in yet another character at this juncture isn’t the best idea. Still, I love how this show makes me cackle laugh with grandmas + Yai and then TENSION.

It’s a wobbly kind of balance but a balancing act is happening nonetheless. It makes the pacing of this show good. It may be all over the place but I'm never bored.

Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 11 of 14 - No trash talk this week, I was charmed & delighted. Who knew I would actually enjoy this show? Certainly not me. (not much of a...) Trash watch happening here.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 8 of 12 - I am pretty much skipping most of the 3 chef friends, and all of the side dish action (sorry Neo). And with OffGun apart for most of this ep, it didn’t hold together since they are the glue. Sigh.

Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 12fin - Okay let’s talk about it.

Mhok should have gone off with someone else. Day treated him like shit and never once apologized. To assume an apology isn’t necessary is to pity Day in the exact way he didn’t want. (On a complete aside, one of my favorite Thai restaurants back in my mispent youth was in Hilo, HI… ah memories) meanwhile the "passing escalators trope" activated in the land of malls (it’s been a while my old friend).

Anygay, I hold that Mohk was not a fault and Day was the one who needed to apologize.

Although they did have one of BL's BEST ever face touch moments.

In conclusion:

The story of a blind man and his caregiver falling in love. Mark is great. JimmySea are spectacular. The support cast is GMMTV-good. And for the first 3/4 this BL was something rather special. But it was let down by its ending (for which I entirely blame the author). In order to like this show you must buy into the premise that Mhok was in the wrong and caused their breakup. If you don’t believe that, you won’t like this BL. Also "fixing a disability = true happiness" is gross messaging. For me, endings counts for a lot and this one was ultimately “happy” but felt like a failure. 7/10 and I was sorely tempted to go as low as a 6/10, so it should count itself lucky

I dithered my darling BLabies... I dithered A LOT over this one. But JimmySea alone held this one up.

GMMTV we gotta talk. You're fielding some of the world's best pairs right now. It's time to get them equally good scripts.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 9 of 12 - This installment had too much of the side couple in it. Although it was nice to see First/Dream (Twins) again. He's still a cutie, even playing a straight.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 23 of 24 - I have to say I’m very glad we are on the last installment of the series. Narcissistic hairdresser starts seeing a spirit in a mirror. Turns out to be a friend from his youth who he thought was dead. This one is kinda sweet, and I find the premise interesting. Is the kid actually dead and a spirit? Or is there something else going on? I am intrigued. And I like the actor playing the kid in the mirror. I suspect this will be sad tho.

Time the series (Thai Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - I don’t exactly know what is going on. And frankly I don’t particularly care, either. So far nothing seems to be happening, and I really intensely dislike one half of the main couple. DNF welcome 2024 here we go

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Love For Love's Sake (Korea Weds iQIYI) 1-2 of 8 - based on the Manhwa Love Supremacy Zone by Hwacha (they should have kept the original title). I adore the premise. IRL person has been sent into fictional universe to save a side character from doom. Fantastic. Every fanfic author's dream. Also, I love that our POV was the bad boy in high school so there’s also a redemption arc going on. I adore this kind of isekai (if you wanna call it that). Puppy/cat pairing too!

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - Oh my goodness they too cute. Basically dating. Although only one of them realizes it, and he is such a drama queen. It’s GREAT. Also they are both so damn gay. I love the supportive bestie trying to cope with the girl who has a crush on his gay bff.

Happy Ending (Korea Tues YT) 1 of 3 - Strongberry is back and it’s very them and very atmospheric and cute. I’m enjoying it.

Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 7 of 8 - Japan giveth and Japan taketh away again. Look, I just like the lost love teacher/teacher couple better. I'm assuming they'll have to do a time jump in the final episode to make this one work at all.

I am SO GLAD we have KBLs back on our screens.

What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - will binge when I have any spare time. 2024 is crazy busy for me so far.

The Servant and the Young Master - from Vietnam so I assume it's on YouTube. I never even noticed. Anyone?

Began Beginning (Myanmar YouTube) - Is TRUST Entertainment bringing us the first ever Burmese BL? I don't know if it's really the first, but @heretherebedork vouched for it, so I will give it a watch through.

Beside You (Thai ????) - a 3 ep short that's supposed to have aired but I can't find it.

Ossans Love Season 2 (Japan Gaga) - 5 years later, will anything have changed? This is Japan so… probubly not. I won't be watching this. I disliked Season one and actively hated the follow ups. No thank you.

Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. I DNFed this at ep 5. Frankly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.

The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Ends next week. Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.

7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if safe.

Dead Friend Forever (Thai Sat iQIYI) - horror, meh, tell me if it's worth my time?

Warnings - OLD WRITING, but pretty good nonetheless lmao

Notes - here's that other old writing i was talking about for julian. i seriously miss writing for this man... well for the arcana in general. i wanna open requests for just the arcana soon lol, that would be fun. the arcana week. omg... i think i just thought of something... arcana fans, lmk and ill see if there are enough people interested to do it!!! anyway, take this old as hecc writing, edited my current day me and enjoy!! <333 have a nice day and stay hydrated!!!

“Ow!”

“Shhh! Are you okay though, Ilya?”

“I'm fine, thanks. Just hit my head on the top of the gate, that’s all.”

“Oh… are you sure you’re okay?”

Julian giggled, clutching his head. “Fine. Promise.”

You grabbed his hand to make sure he wouldn’t be hitting his head anymore. “You need to be more careful, Ilya.”

“I'm sorry! It's not my fault I'm tall.”

“I know… just… try to keep it down. If we get caught, the countess is going to kill us.”

“I know, I know. You don't have to tell me twice.” He tightened his grip on your hand and walked closer, getting down to your level to make sure he wouldn't hit his head again.

“There it is! Julian, I found it!!”

“Shhhhhh! Weren't you the one who said keep our voices down!!”

“Sorry! I found it! Come on!!” You pulled him over, almost making him hit the ground.

When he got back on his feet fully, he tilted his head, wiping the dirt off of his knees. “This is what we came out here for?”

“Mhm!” You walked over to a bush and pulled out a couple of flowers and a small bunny jumped out with a little flower crown. “Ilya look!!”

“Darling! You’re going to get us caught!”

“Sorry.”

The bunny walked right up to Julian’s boot, sniffing it. He kneeled down slowly, not wanting to scare the little thing and put out his gloved hand, which the rabbit avoided. He took off the glove, revealing the mark of muder and the bunny sniffed his hand, bonking its head on it. “Look hun, it likes me.”

You turned over and smiled, putting down your basket of flowers and you slowly walked over, petting the bunny. “What a cutie.”

Julian put his head on yours and smiled. “Just like you, doll.”

You giggled, scooting closer to Julian as the bunny slipped away. “Let me grab my basket and then we can stop at the shop. Asra shouldn't be there, so we can make some dinner and you can sleep over if you want.”

“Sounds good to me.”

You stood up, your hand sliding away from Julian’s, and grabbed your basket. You walked home with bright smiles on your faces. You had occasional conversations about Lucio, and Julian told stories about when he was a pirate.

While you were walking through an alleyway, you heard the sound of buckles and running. Julian looked at you with a pale face. “The guards. They’re looking for us.”

He did the first thing he could think of and slammed you against the alley wall and slammed his lips against yours, hiding the basket.

The guards ran by without so much as a second glance. Julian sighed, removing his lips from yours. “Oh, thank god.”

He looked back at you, who had a stupid smile on your face.

Julian felt his face heat up and he cleared his throat. “S-Stawp…”

You giggled and grabbed his hand. “Let's get back to the shop before we get caught, yeah?”

He smirked and held your hand tighter. “What? Wanna spend more time with me, love?~”

“Precisely.”

His face turned from warm to boiling hot as he landed a soft kiss on your temple. “Good.~”

Julian yawned, kicking off his boots. “I am pooped!”

You placed the flowers in their respective jars and walked over to your bed, resting your head on Julian’s chest. “Me too.”

“Is it okay if I stay the night?”

“Of course. Let me make us some tea and dinner.”

“That sounds wonderful. You always know how to treat a man right, my love.”

You giggled, rolling your eyes as you went to the kitchen. As you began frying up some potatoes, you felt something cold run up your back. You turned to look over your shoulder and saw Faust smiling at you. “Faust? What are you doing here?”

“Asra home!”

“O-Oh… Asra’s here?”

“Did I hear my name?” You turned over and saw Asra smiling while hanging his jacket on the coat rack.

“Oh… hi Asra! You’re home early.”

“Exciting, isn't it?” He pulled you into a warm embrace and you could feel dewdrops on his soft skin.

“Do you need anything?”

“No, I don't believe so. I'm just going to go take a shower.”

“There’s some new bath salts.”

“Oh, then a bath it is.”

“They’re in my room, just in my bag. Should be the first thing you see.”

“Perfect. I'll be off then. Save me a cup of tea, alright?”

“I will.” You smiled, still frying the potatoes, when the realization hit you like a brick, making your face go pale. You forgot Julian was in your room.

You quickly turned off the heat, running upstairs, but it was already too late. Asra was looking at Julian’s fast asleep figure with his mouth gaping open. “Might I ask what… he is doing here?”

You shrugged and pushed Asra out of the room, slightly closing the door behind her. “Asra, don't be mad.”

“I thought you were to investigate him… not… investigate him!!”

“Asra!” You could feel yourself blush.

“I'm just saying! I think this is a bad idea.”

“Come on! You used to know him back in the day, right? So why not just let him stay for the night?!”

“Listen, Ilya is a great guy, he really is. But he can love his suffering more than anything.”

“That doesn't mean he’s completely hopeless! Look, Asra… Julian… Ilya and I have become really close. Like really close. He seems genuinely happy… I just want to help him achieve that happiness.”

“I understand, but-”

“Asra, it's just one night, okay?”

Asra sighed, looking back in the room at Julian’s curled up figure. “Fine.” He walked off to the bathroom, beginning his bath as you made you and Julian’s plates, bringing them upstairs.

“Ilya,” you nudged him slightly, which earned a small nose scrunch from him. “Ilya, wake up.”

He yawned awake, tears pricking the corners of his eyes and he smiled when he saw you. “Oh, my apologies. Just a wink, I promise.”

You kissed him on the forehead and handed him his food.

“Thank you, my dear. This smells delightful.” He took a sip of his tea with a smile before shoving food in his mouth. You ate in silence for a moment and Julian could sense the tenseness in you. “Dear?”

“Yes, Ilya?”

“Are you alright?”

“Yes… why?”

“You look frustrated.”

“Just tired, that’s all.”

“Ah, yes. My apologies, dear. We should get to sleep soon.”

You set down your plate and took off your jacket, curling up in the spot that Julian left open for you. He wrapped you in the sheet with him and wrapped his arm around your waist.

“Ilya?”

“Yes?”

“I just wanted to let you know that Asra is home.”

“What?! I-I can leave if need be.”

“Don't worry about it. He doesn't mind.”

“Oh, thank goodness. I don't mind that he’s over. Just keep it down, my dear.~” He kissed the tip of your ear, giggling.

“Ilya!”

“It's just a joke, dear. Just a joke.” He smiled in the crook of your neck as he drifted to sleep.

“Morning sleepyhead!” Asra giggled, watching Julian come down the stairs.

“Good morning, Asra.”

“If you’re wondering where y/n is, they went out to run some errands.”

“Oh,” Julian slipped on his jacket and took a muffin from the table. “Will they be long?”

“They shouldn't be. They left a while ago, so at this rate, they should be home any moment now.”

“Perfect. Do you mind if I stay here until then?”

“I don't mind at all.”

Julian leaned back in his chair, the morning sun hitting his face through a window at the top of the stairs. “I apologize, Asra.”

“Where did that come from?”

“I just feel bad for anything I may have caused… especially between the two of us. Please forgive me.”

“Of course I forgive you, Ilya. Thank you for that.”

“I wouldn’t mind being friends again, the two of us.”

“That doesn't sound half bad.”

As the two smiled at each other, you threw the door open, holding tons of bags. “I'm home!”

“My goodness,” Asra ran up, catching one of the bags that was about to fall. “How much did you buy?”

You giggled nervously. “A lot… there was a sale, so I grabbed some stuff to restock our potion collection… plus… I really like food. And they had a lot of it at the market this morning.”

Asra let out a laugh, restocking the shop and you smiled when you saw Julian. “Morning, Ilya. You’re finally awake.”

“Yeah… sorry.”

“No need to apologize.” You walked over, landing a small kiss on his cheek.

Julian giggled, pulling you to his lap and covering your face and neck with kisses. “Let’s go on a morning walk, love. Gotta stretch the legs.”

You smiled and grabbed his hand, walking out the door.

Faust slithered over to Asra with a smile, wrapping her tail around him. “Love?”

“Yes Faust. It seems so.”

Ok, so my friend and I were bored in class and instead of paying attention like we should be doing, we did something else. Synopsis: Your girlfriend gets jealous, but not in the way you hoped :(

Warnings: None (SFW, Fluff)

Jean was overworking, so much so that she'd ignore her own health and well-being so it shouldn't be surprising that she'd struggle with relationships too. That's why when she saw you with Lisa, she immediately felt uneasy seeing you giggle so happily with her. It wasn't uncommon for people to ease up around Lisa and have friendly conversations with her- that's what she convinced herself was happening between you two.

It was a normal afternoon when Jean came to the Favonius library to check out a book only to hear delightful chattering coming from the ground floor. She walked near the staircase and glanced down to see you and Lisa sitting on a table beside each other, drinking tea and chatting. It was a normal sight until she saw Lisa put her hand on your thigh and lean a bit too close to your face.

Her eyes widened seeing how you didn't back away from her and instead seemed to have a blush painted across your face. For the first time, she felt uneasy. She couldn't understand this feeling, she couldn't bear to see the sight any longer hence rushed out and went to her office.

"Was that....Did I see that correctly? Is there something between them or was Lisa just being the usual tease she is?" she pondered while pacing around her office then sighed and sat down on her chair, "I'm thinking too much, they are just friends. Y/n won't...."

Her mind was clouded with doubt and anxiety for the rest of the day as she worked. She tried to put all thoughts aside and work diligently but it was proving to be difficult. Later at night, she went to the library once again to keep the book she borrowed and was met by a very surprising sight. She saw you in Lisa's embrace, her arms firmly wrapped around your neck and her lips pecking your cheek.

Jean suddenly dropped the book in her hand making a thud sound which alerted both you and Lisa and made you look in the direction of the sound. Jean's hands were trembling at that sight, she could see a faint mark of Lisa's lips on your cheek and before she knew it, she backed away and turned around to go out muttering a "Sorry....f-for interrupting you two..." Her worst fear came true, the fear that you would leave her and she felt it was her fault.

She was ready to practically run out but you swiftly grabbed her wrist and stopped her, "Wait, Jean! Listen to me! It's not what you think!" Jean didn't meet her eyes with you and mumbled, "I-It's alright, Y/n....I don't blame you for this...." Lisa sighed then walked towards Jean and held her other wrist making her turn around to face you both, "Jean, listen to her, will you?"

"What's there to listen?! It's all in front of me....Y/n, in the morning too you two were being very close and just now....I-It's alright, I understand why you'd do this....I just wish you would have told me before I had to see something like this...."

"Wait a minute, in the morning? What do you mean, Jean?" you asked with a puzzled look.

"Y-You know, the two of you were downstairs and....um being very touchy...."

There was silence between the three of you then Lisa let out a delighted laugh.

"Oh Jean~ You overthink so much! That was actually a part of our little plan~"

"What plan....?"

"Ahaha~ Dear Y/n wanted to see how you would be when jealous, we intentionally chose that time to do something like that. We were waiting the whole day for you to do something about it but you didn't do anything. Do you know how bad Y/n felt?~"

"What?! T-Then what about just now?! Don't you think that was taking it too far?!"

"Ahhh~ That wasn't part of plan, that was something I did of my own choice because of how much I enjoyed Y/n's company the whole day. It was just a little reward to this cutie but it looks like my timing was wrong. Hah~ Let me just make it clear that I do not intend to come between you two, I only wish for you both to be well."

"Lisa....I see, I-I'm sorry for doubting you..."

"Hehe, I'm just glad all misunderstandings have been cleared. Now I'll take my leave to give you both some privacy~"

Lisa smiled and walked out of the library leaving you two alone, Jean hesitated to look at you when you suddenly hugged her tightly.

"I'm sorry, Jean! I didn't mean to give you the wrong impression!"

"Y/n....It's okay. I don't hate you for this...."

You leaned back then pressed your lips against Jean's and captured her mouth in a heated kiss, your tongue darted in her mouth and rolled with hers as low pants escaped her lips and echoed in the library.

"J-Jean, about earlier....what did you mean that you don't blame me for this?"

"I....I thought you don't like me anymore after I saw you that way with Lisa....I thought that I don't give you enough time hence why you chose to be with her so...I-I felt it was my fault hence why I didn't blame you..."

Your eyes widened and you once again tightly embraced her, "No! Don't think that way! I love you a lot, Jean! I never thought you don't give me enough time; I understand your work and position and I'm fine with it. I'm sorry I shouldn't have made that plan with Lisa, I thought you'd get possessive and maybe take me away...."

Jean's eyes widened as well and she hugged you back, "To be honest, that's exactly what I wanted to do at that moment but...." She trailed off and hid her face in the crook of your neck, you smiled then gently patted the back of her head, "I'm sorry, I'll never do that again. Let's go home, shall we?"

Honestly I want more questions on this.

Why is it that only Ponies get Cutie Marks? Even if other species don't get the mark on the flank, shouldn't they have something equal to it? Why don't they get special talents?

I do like the overall thing with they can't just have her get a Cutie Mark because it's impossible but they can help her find a Special Talent.

But still I have so many questions.

Forever Filly for everyone else...

Rarity seems to be at her best. While the surprising return of Sassy Saddles is panicking, Rarity is calm and collected. That all changes when she finds an old picture of herself with Sweetie Belle having fun. She wonders how long it has been since the two just had fun together. While the show doesn’t give us an answer, the last time the two shared the screen together was 12 episodes ago in “The Fault in Our Cutie Marks”. And interacting was last seen in “The Cart Before the Ponies”, 17 episodes ago. So it’s been a while.

With Rarity realizing how long it has been since she hung out with Sweetie Belle, her midlife crisis begins. She breaks down and begins crying but thanks to Sassy Saddles’ encouragement she decides to go to Ponyville to hang out with Sweetie Belle once more. Don’t worry, according to Sassy most of the work is done. Which I guess leaves the stuff Saddy is solely responsible for. And looking it seems to mostly be cleaning up and relabeling all of her binder. And the Eternal Elegance Empire Silhouette evening gown, which I am pretty sure could wait or be transferred to fellow Fashionista who works for Rarity Coco.

So what is Sweetie doing while Rarity is panicking? She and the Crusaders are knocking their business out of the park! They just successfully gave a kid a Cutie Mark and are so on mark Sweetie predicted Zipporwhill was going to knock just on schedule. With the three of them, this should be an easy layup. But Rarity shows up saying she plans to spend the day with Sweetie. While Sweetie was reluctant, the other girls figured they could handle it. Spoilers, they can’t. Why is that? Because these two plots are one and the same.

Rarity/Zipporwhill wants to reconnect with her little sister/dog. They try to do that by doing all the old things they liked to do when they were younger. But Rarity/Zipporwhill don’t realize that Sweetie Belle/Ripley has grown older. They’re not the young thing they were so their interests and tastes change. And the more they keep trying to do the old stuff, the more they’re going to resent it. And this storyline breaks off when Sweetie Belle goes off on Rarity.

She couldn’t take it anymore so she gave Rarity a piece of her mind. Rarity is upset with this and wanted to give Sweetie a piece of her mind as well, but refused to do so when she was with the other. That’s because during her time with Rarity Sweetie figured out the problem: Zipporwhill is treating Ripley like a puppy when he’s a fully grown dog. Since he’s older, he can’t keep playing with the same stuff he did as a puppy.

You don't still play with the same toys from when you were a foal, do you?

Technically I don’t, but that’s because I was tricked into giving away my Construction Brick Toy collection. Made up for that over the years.

With Rarity overhearing Sweetie’s explanation, she realizes that the same thing was happening with her. She knew Sweetie grew but when the realization that the last time they did those things together was going to be the last time they were going to do those things together got to Rarity. Sweetie accepts the apology, Zipporwhill plays fetch with a stick making Ripley happy and with Sweetie’s suggestion the two enjoy a big sundae.

Overall, a great episode. Definitely showing the highlight of changes when you were young to when you’re older. And just because you couldn’t do the things you used to do together anymore doesn’t mean there are new things to do. And we’ll see the two interacting with each other one more time in Campfire Tales later this season. Speaking of which, I do think this is a great showing of just how far along Sweetie came.

When we first saw her, she was the annoying little sister who had good intentions and wanted to be like Rarity. But as the show went on we noticed Sweetie changing. She began to argue with Rarity. Became angry with Rarity. The more she showed up the more she wanted to become her own person. And after earning her Cutie Mark did so. And this episode is the culmination of her development from kid to young adult. Or possibly pre-teen. I’m terrible with age.
