"the chronology of water" by lidia yuknavitch
read: august 2023
time taken to read: a while
disclaimer: not quite a review
"the chronology of water" by lidia yuknavitch is something i read at the recommendation of a professor and it is... something. a memoir. lyrical. brutally, brutally honest and yet reserved and concise. i related a lot to her content, the abuse she has endured. it was a cathartic read.
but.
lidia has a caveat.
lidia is transphobic. maybe not intentionally, but i don't have time to search if she really is or isn't. all i know is this: she uses the t-slur, and uses it a few times. in addition to this, she has a weird tendency to fetishize the lgbtq community, to the point that it had me squirming in my seat.
i wanted to enjoy this writing. i really did. but i just don't think i liked it as much as i thought i would.
that is all.

I took the image of a burning woman into my heart. I didn’t hate the fire. I hated the people who did not believe her.
