Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are in fact a number of Rhaenicent shippers who do think exactly that, like this anon who tried to convince me that it's actually Very Radical And Feminist for Alicent to abandon her kids and choose Rhaenyra over them because they are True Love after all! I don't get it either, but there are people who very much do think exactly that.

For the record, I do think that Rhaenyra and Alicent clearly did and probably still do love each other, I just ship Rhaenicent in a "the love was there, it didn't change anything or save anyone because there were just too many forces against it, but it still matters that the love was there" kind of way. Or, to be crass, in a "gay sex will not fix this situation, it'd actually probably make it worse, but I think they should give it a shot anyway" kind of way.

I have no idea what that anon is smoking with regard to anything else they said though. Like, literally who has ever made the arguments they were all up in arms about? Are those arguments in the room with us right now?
