Another solid addition to the Hellboy series, The Secret of Chesbro House #1-2 with Shawn McManus on cover and interior art duties.
Consistantly entertaining comic book series that should be on everybody's pull list.

top five minor characters from s1 of bmw?
Thank you anon for the ask!
I’m going to answer it but maybe in a different way than what was intended.
Favorite Minor or Supporting Characters from Season One BMW
Send me a top five or favorites from BMW season one
First and foremost, I think it’s important to state, within the first season, most of the characters were finding themselves within the landscape of the show (in my opinion, but I find there would be a large agreeance with that statement). They hadn’t yet grown into the characters we love – they were finding their voice and their point of view against Cory’s very loud point of view within this first season. The only other character with an equally developed voice was Mr. Feeny and it showed. The season even focused on that – the juxtaposition of the first episode and the finale especially highlighted their relationship because that was really the only relationship that felt important – or important enough to comment on the growth of.
So, some of these answers might be surprising – but it’s the first season! Growth will happen…we got six more seasons…
Stewart Minkus
It was discussed at length on the podcast, but he really was the star of this first season. They joked in the season one recap, but I agree that if his character would have remained, Cory’s voice might have gotten diminished, and we would have had a much different show to look back on thirty years later. His light showed so brightly and so vividly and he was such a fully realized character in every way – all the applause to Lee. It’s testament to his performance that he was only in one season of the show and yet we remember him! Fondly! Because he was an icon.
2. Shawn Hunter
This is where I point to my statement about keeping in mind this is the first season and not all characters have grown into the ones we will love and will continue to love thirty years later…
But second to Minkus as far as a fully realized voice juxtaposed against Cory’s is most certainly Shawn. I would say he wasn’t fully realized from the start (that has to do with the several attempts at that third friend they discussed at length on the pod) but once that argument was settled, his character too settled into himself and found his stance beside Cory. He’ll only grow more from here and I can’t wait to see it.
3. Topanga Lawrence
*points to statement about growth and the first season*
Yes, our girl hasn’t yet found her stride yet, but you can tell the second she appears on screen that this is a force to be reckoned with – a point of view that will most certainly challenge Cory’s as the seasons continue and become a strength of the show. Seeing season one Topanga will always bring a special joy to my heart because I think my adolescent self-identified with her so much – this flowy dress wanting to learn so much about the world I’m apart of and if I stumble, I don’t care attitude because at least I’m being me – this version of her before entering those later teenage years when opinions start to haunt you and growing up suddenly seems like an uphill climb is a version I will always love. However, at the same time, I can’t wait to see the growth. Because I do love every version of Topanga. But this one will always hold a special place in my heart.
4. Guest Cast
Making this a generalized category of guest cast because they really were stellar this season – from Keri Russell and Rue McClanahan IN THE SAME EPISODE, to the standout performance of Lindsay Price in Teacher’s Bet, and we got two episodes this season of Jason Marsden! I know this theme of stellar guest cast only continues in the next six seasons and I can’t wait to relive some of my favorites and be surprised by the ones I forgot about.
5. Eric Matthews
I love Eric. I love Eric for the growth (still calling it growth because it’s way better than what this was first season…in my opinion) that happens later for his character – becoming the comedic center of the show and making my stomach hurt with laughter. But this Eric…this Eric is not my favorite…he has flashes, he has moments in the show where that comedic timing shines (see Grandpa was a Rolling Stone and Model Family) but otherwise its more or less talk about girls – which is no fault of Will’s – they just didn’t have a point of view for Eric yet – or the point of view they did have was really weak. But it is a testament to Will as an actor to do what he could with the character in this first season and shine regardless.
