What if Deltarune was really just about change?

The seven chapters could represent the stages of change, with each chapter's boss being Kris's change. Jevil could represents Kris's inner child, while Spamton could represent someone being told to change- basically trying to make themselves better. This would also make sense considering that both Jevil and Spamton and 'trapped' and they are also both somewhat skippable. You don't HAVE to visit Jevil, but you CAN, and you don't HAVE to go to Spamton's shop, but you CAN. If we're playing as Kris, this can be interpreted as Kris trying to, in a way, get rid of them.

And what about the Knight? You can't have a good theory without the Knight. I think that the Knight is us, the players. Queen talks about how the Dark Fountains need determination to be opened, and this is a fact that gets glossed over in most of the game. Who in the game has the most determination? It's not Asriel, it's not Ralsei, it's not even Sans- it's us.

This doesn't have to be a bad thing either, because most- if not all- Darkners are just Kris's imagination, and Kris's imagination is based on things that occur in their everyday life. If Kris is changing, so does the Dark World. This could be why we get to see more characters as chapters pass, they're all reflections of Kris's experiences.

And now for the last part, the endings. Kris ripping out their soul is just them seperating themselves from their fake personality (a.k.a us) and trying to be themselves. By sealing Dark Fountains, they're preventing us from hurting their creations, and their friends. This would make even more sense considering the Snowgrave route, and Undertale's obsession of "the human didn't kill them, you did". This would correlate to the Knight theory too, their trying to stop the Knight from affecting their perfect dream world.

And, if they were trying to wait for Asriel or if this was a world that they and Asriel made, it would make sense. Asriel might've gone away, but the precious memories and the world they made haven't. By changing it and killing Darkners, we're getting rid of their memories. Which in turn cause Kris to change.

BUT HEY, THAT'S JUST A THEORY, A GAME THEORYYYYY!

Oh my God.

I think I just figured out DELTARUNE and the "Angel's Heaven."

Okay - work with me here.

Spamton keeps talking about going to heaven and such, right? And he calls Noelle an angel, right?

There is more than one angel.

I just realized that - I'm watching MatPat's theory and I'm like halfway through and it clicked.

Noelle has snow powers. She's the snow angel.

Onion-san keeps talking about hearing a song and there are lots of references to the ocean. Shyren's in this game too, right? Shyren's gonna be an angel fish.

What other kind of angels are there? Obvious puns that can get tied back to a possible world in Deltarune?

Well, immediately, my mind goes to angel investor. If there was ever a bank-related world, or a political world, that could come into play. Noelle's mom is a mayor and even the TV world could be all about funding the way Hollywood is. A stretch? Sure! But one of many possibilities now.

There's also guardian angel. I could see that being some sort of final boss, and maybe even Kris themselves since no 'angel' appears in the first chapter. That could be a grand reveal at the end of the story. But it could also be Undyne or Toriel or Asgore, given their roles in this story.

Fallen angel (or dark angel) could take on a whole host of meanings, especially when the prophecy is trying to "banish the angel's heaven." Maybe it'll be someone working against us, or someone who helps us more than anybody else. Who knows? Let's get crazy: maybe it's Sans! Maybe it's Papyrus!

I know about angels of mercy (or death), which would be very interesting given the focus so far on the hospital and the prominence of the church in this town.

It's not a term I personally hear used too often, but an "angel's advocate" exists. I don't know if that'd fit the theme though, since it doesn't necessitate having the advocate be an angel as well. There's also a "destroying angel" (aka "death angel") - which is a mushroom, and what could be a very clever nod to that dancing mushroom in Temmyville, along with that meme of "You cannot destroy me in a way that matters." That might be a bit too obscure, though. Just saying these two for the sake of it. I'm pretty sure there'd need to be seven types of angel to go along with the number of flowers/souls, which is why I want to leave those options there.

If we were to get real trippy about it, we could say no angel is an option. Like the phrase "you're no angel"? It could link to Kris not seeing their hand in the shadow crystal and their choices not mattering, or just as a quirky, meta way to get a seventh type for Kris to play. Hell, the fact that there's no angel in the first chapter could be the whole point: Kris is no angel. Whether that's heroic or even worse than ever, I'm not sure. It could definitely go either way.

The most fascinating connections, though, is with terms, like angel dust. Do I think Toby's gonna through drugs randomly into this? Probably not! But I do see the obvious fit between that term and the dust that monsters are supposed to crumble into, and how 'angel dust' could be used as a weapon somehow. Used a little less often but still with clear links that can be made is angel's tears, which is a type of flower. Then there's angel cake, which is something Ralsei has already cooked up out of pot! So, y'know, more connections there.

Yes, I know archangel is another term, but that doesn't quite fit the pattern of it being an [attribute] angel. I could see that as a boss name, maybe, but not one of several types in the story.

Anyway! :D That just struck me and I love the thought of it. Maybe "Angel's Heaven" refers to some sort of last-angel-standing battle royale? 🤔 Not sure. I don't think the grammar's wrong. But I think it's meant to be misleading.

wait what if shadow crystals function like the human souls in undertale?? get seven and you can become god? go to the light world, even? seam has implied that they make darkners stronger, like we see with spamton and jevil, but is also trying to collect more. one per chapter means seven. i think i’m onto something-

There’s a chance Asriel will join the party come Chapter 4 I saw it pointed out that Deltarune likely begins on a Thursday - this is because the school week ends on Chapter 2. Now, it’s noted that there is an upcoming festival - so this might be a nonstandard day off. But it’s likely this game did not begin on a Monday as we may have assumed. If Chapter 1 is on a Thursday, 2 is on a Friday, and 3 is on a saturday, then Chapter 4 is on a Sunday. And that is the start of the next week...

Asriel was stated to come back “Next week,” which notably does not mean “Seven days from now.” I think many of us assumed he would return at the end of the game, but that’s not necessarily the case Additionally, we have the unusual flowers:

Take a look: These flowers are not merely an Undertale reference Going clockwise, we have Purple, Blue, Aqua, Gold, Yellow, Red, and Green. That’s very notable because we now have enough information to place ALL of these to a Deltarune character. In order: Purple: Susie Blue: Berdly. We never control Berdly directly, but he is referred to as Blue repeatedly, on the Weird Route a blue bead is torn off the doctor’s office toy if you examine it, and there is a blue bird light in one of the Queen’s Mansion puzzles, etc. Aqua: Kris Gold: Asriel. We have never seen Asriel here, but anyone who has played Undertale will know the association between a Gold Flower and him Yellow: Noelle Red: December. In the Spamton Sweepstakes event, we encounter a Red Guitar associated with Dess. Green: Ralsei They also, of course, reference the Human Souls of Undertale. We know the colour associations of the characters I didn’t list because they are shown explicitly - The character icons and names are those colours

If we go clockwise, we also see a pattern emerge: Chapter 1 is very much about Susie’s evolution as a character. Chapter 2 is Berdly’s (Yes, Noelle also gets a lot of focus - but she’s still very much at the start of her arc, compared to Berdly changing a lot.) Chapter 3 is in Kris’ house - How do you make a chapter about a character who doesn’t talk? You put them in a situation where you can learn about them through context. Then the last two... The final two chapters are likely the time we find out what is actually up with December and Ralsei, and delve into the deepest lore. So that tracks, too - especially if the last chapter deals with us finally discovering who Ralsei really is If we DO assume this is all in order? That would mean 4 involves Asriel, and 5 is about Noelle

While I'm here, I wanted to say something else:

I'm pretty sure Tenna is going to be the main boss of chapter 3, not Mike - and I don't think Mike is going to be the secret boss either.

Between the damn_you_tenna page (btw, has anyone picked up on the url maybe being a utena reference? just me? cool) and the Twitter Q&A, it seems pretty clear that a) the TV (Tenna) and Mike are separate characters, and b) that Spamton hates the TV/Tenna, but cares about Mike. Perhaps even considers (considered?) him a friend.

The two things that make me think Tenna will be the main boss of the chapter are:

a) We've gotten multiple direct hints to their existence now, from both all this and in-game, with the smile appearing in the TV static as the last image we get from Chapter 2. An obvious cliffhanger - too obvious for their existence to be a surprise like with the other secret bosses. I mean, they're called "secret bosses" for a reason. Remember, Jevil gave no hints about Spamton, but he *did* give a hint about Queen.

b) The tweet makes a reference to "THAT [Cathode]'s CREW". If we assume this is referring to Tenna, which makes sense based on the use of cathodes in CRT televisions (and recall the line from Spamton's fight about turning "THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]"), then it makes me think there are multiple other characters working for Tenna. Miniboss-type characters that our crew will have to contend with over the course of Chapter 3. (This is also supported by Spamton saying "EVERYONE WILL PAY" except Mike, implying that there are multiple people at fault in his eyes, even if it all comes back to Tenna.) And, structure-wise, it makes a lot more sense for the main boss of the chapter to have a bunch of encounters with lackeys building up to their battle than the secret boss.

Now, as for Mike... my thinking with him is that, again, he's already been hinted at too much to be a proper secret boss. Though, it could start being a trend now that we're two of seven chapters in that secret bosses start getting hinted at, I suppose.

The other thing is that he seems to have been Spamton's friend, specifically during his Big Shot era, whom he lost contact with (likely, cut Spamton off). And yes, Spamton is a boss (in video game terms), but what elevated him to the level of climatic secret boss was his attempts to transcend his Darkner status by taking the NEO body and then Kris's SOUL... not just being a salesman who appeared on TV sometimes. Maybe Mike has gone off the deep end since then, but at current, for as little as we know about him, he just seems like... some guy.

My prediction for him right now is that he'll be more of a Sweet Cap'n Cakes type, where we fight him - perhaps because he initially thinks we're working with/for Tenna - but then he becomes our ally, whom we may actively try to protect from Tenna's crew.

That all being said, it's worth keeping in mind that Spamton is... an unreliable narrator. It's possible that Tenna and their crew aren't actually that devious; that they aren't the bad guys.

...then again...

...maybe not.

EDIT - I almost forgot one other thing that makes me think Mike won't be the secret boss:

Tenna as the main boss of Chapter 3 will put the focus on the entertainment side of this Dark World. I'm sure there will some personal ties back to the Dreemurr family with them being the TV that got unplugged by them some time ago and being the centerpiece of the living room (I can only imagine the things they've seen/heard), but, at the end of the day, they're a TV character in a TV world.

So, it would make sense to me if the secret boss is derived from a different element of the Dreemurr household more specifically focused on Dreemurr family backstory. Something like the discarded flowers in the trash can, or the missing green crayon, or any other number of forgotten, non-TV related items. Which, assuming Mike is a microphone or something similarly tied to the TV / its shows, would not include him.

"Your choices don't matter" Vs "It's kill or be killed"

Deltarune Chapter 1 + 2 spoilers below (Including Snowgrave)

I can't stop comparing "your choices don't matter" from Deltarune and "in this world, it's kill or be killed" from Undertale, and I haven't seen anyone else mention this so here I go

Flowey (the first character you meet) attempts to convince you that your only option in 'this world' is to kill, a fact the game proves as wrong over and over and over as you progress - hell, the second character you meet (Toriel) emphasises the fact that there is other options, that you can do more than just kill or die. Flowey's belief is the polar opposite of the game's tagline - "The friendly RPG where nobody has to die!"

Deltarune Chapter One does a suspiciously similar thing - one of the first characters you meet (and the first character new to Deltarune) almost immediately says "If you haven't gotten it by now... Your choices don't matter." And yet again, this statement is contradicted by another character soon after - Ralsei, who says that if you don't try (choose) to get by without fighting, "You may not... find the result favourable." Ralsei seems to know way more than he should (which is a whole other post), so this dialogue seems important. Basically, Ralsei believes if we don't make the right choices, we won't get the right ending.

Even the game itself disproves Susie's "Your choices don't matter." - as early as Chapter One, the choices you make effect the world in some way. If you fight your way through the Dark World, you're forced to flee soon after beating King, because those in the Dark World want to help him - but if you spare every enemy, they come to help you instead. This also means you lose the chance to say goodbye to everyone before leaving the Dark World - a whole segment of gameplay changed because of a choice you made.

This is all the more apparent in Chapter Two, the first chapter to have an alternate route that differs significantly - Snowgrave. The story itself is changed in a major way by your choice to follow this route; Noelle's mental health suffers, Spamton takes over Queen's castle, and Berdly is (potentially) dead. Even in the normal route, events can change depending on your choices - Berdly can escape the wire in the final Queen fight with no damage, or he can break his wing, you can get support from all your recruits or from none of them. These may not seem like major changes compared to the multiple different endings of Undertale, but remember - this is only two chapters out of seven. The story is only at the beginning, and your choice's impact on the story seems to be growing stronger with each chapter.

The last thought I have about this is about Susie's dialogue at the start of the game: "Your choices don't matter." Technically, she's right. As far as she knows, she's talking to Kris, and as the game has proven time and time again, Kris' choices don't matter. No matter how many times they tear their soul out, eventually they'll return it, and we'll regain control. But Ralsei, on the other hand, seems meta-aware (to what extent, it's unsure). When he implies our choices matter, he could be right.

In Deltarune, Kris' choices don't matter, but ours do.

What am I doing-

So, @sparkerinparadise has this really cool idea called sexyman descendants, and I instantly fell in love with the concept (I actually have kind of a similar idea, only it’s with exclusively cartoon and video game characters. I have no idea how I’ll get it off the ground, especially since the main character is a SpongeBob descendent lol-)

However, I am…not the best artist. Nor am I the best at making/describing Monster High-styled outfits. However, I am a good writer, so I’ll be writing descriptions for my seven (you read that right) OCs for sexyman descendants. I…might be also write some fanfic for this. BTW, these guys’ parents are all pulled from the sexyman Wikipedia (something I’d never thought I’d have to look up…)

LUCILLE DEVIL/MORNINGSTAR

Lucille has pale, almost grayish skin, pitch black, fluffy hair, her dad’s eyes and horns, fangs, and sharp claws that are usually painted black. I…have no idea what her outfit is; all I know is she has a black faux fur jacket and a pitchfork necklace. She’s on the shorter and lankier side, something the compensates for with heels.

-Rules the cheerleading squad with an iron fist

-Also in both the drama club. Probably the one who takes the lead from @sporesgalaxy’s Spamton Jr.

She wears a version of her dad’s shirt and jacket with the sleeves rolled up, a purple skirt with rows of all four card suites in pink and black, purple chunky high heels with dice for the heel, pink poker chip earrings, white gloves, and a black choker with a silver crown charm. She also wears purple lipstick and eyeshadow

Diane is a tall, bulky girl with pale skin, long, dark hair in a braid, and blue eyes. I don’t have any outfit ideas for her, but I do know she has a sort-of steampunk-ish style, a love for the color purple, and high heels with a wheel for the heel (that can act as heelies because why not-)

-Daughter of Dick Dastardly

-Bisexual, with a preference for men

-Part of the robotics/coding team

-Though highly intelligent, she occasionally ends up in detention because she cheated on a quiz or something minor

-Grumpy and dramatic

-Favorite class is either engineering or woodshop

-The next person who asks her if she’ll join a sports team is going to get punched in her dad’s namesake-

-Has an emotional support/service dog named Molly she brings to school with her. She doesn’t tell anyone why she has an emotional support/service dog; Callie asked once and got thrown into a garbage can.

ERIS CHAOS-SHY

Eris is a tall, lanky teen with wild pale pink, almost white hair, tan skin, her dad’s mismatched horns, and heterochromia: one yellow and red eye and one green eye, both with different-sized pupils. I don’t have a set idea for her outfit, but I do know that the outfit doesn’t even seem to match itself, she has a different tie every week, and it’s made up of both her dad’s and mom’s color palette. She also paints each of her nails a different color and changes them frequently.

-Genderfluid (any pronouns) Polysexual (not attracted to people who identify as male)

-Daughter of Discord and Fluttershy

-Enjoys music and psychology classes

-On the debate team

-His chaotic powers have an entire section in the school rule book dedicated to them

-Completely aware that they’re all fictional, but they’re strongly encouraged not to tell anybody

-Chaotic neutral, seems to pull a different prank on the student body every other week

-Has a feud going on with both Lucille and Dee

-Attracts animals with her singing; however, they are not the cute little woodland creatures her mom attracts

-One time classes had to be canceled because a goose flew through the window while she was in music

-Loves his mom, but he wishes she was less overprotective

-Has totally brought his mom’s mertaur magazines to school (both for himself and because others dared/blackmailed him to)

BETTY KOOPA

Betty is a tall, bulky girl with tan skin, red hair in a messy ponytail, sharp fangs and claws, horns, and dark eyes. She wears a slightly torn white tank top with pale yellow stripes, a black biker jacket with spiky shoulders and sleeves and a red flame design on the back, torn green pants, black combat boots, spiky bracelets with a matching choker, and a green spiky shell purse.

-Daughter of Bowser Koopa (yes, I’m giving him another kid. Why not?)

-Lesbian Transgirl

-On literally ALL of the sport teams. Basketball, soccer, golf: you name it, she’s a member

-Loves all her siblings and would kill/die for them (BTW, most of the Koopalings probably attend school with her)

-Very loud and in-your-face

-Total delinquent

-Attracted to princess-like/feminine girls like her dad

-Has no clue how to flirt, so she just brags about herself very loudly, acts intimidating, and throws random gifts at people and hopes it works

I'm fond of the "there's a timeloop of some kind and we, the Player/SOUL, are here to break it" theory; and if Kris actually knows we' were coming and deleted Asriel's number, w/ that theory in mind I wouldn't be surprised if Asriel is fated to be relevant in some way that us bumbling around might mess up? We already see that if we meet The Cool Undertale Characters we'll be really weird around them (being able to ship Alphys and Undyne, saying hi to Sans), so Kris cutting us off from Asriel in Queen's castle and from the phone might be to keep us from being stupid about the goat

a time loop, huh. the classic time loop. the only way i could see that going is if kris is reliving the same week- these seven chapters- over and over, and every time in the past, the roaring has happened and the world has ended, and we need to make sure things end differently this time... except we couldn't be here specifically because our presence would break the loop, because if kris is aware of the loop and knows we're coming, we must've come every other time too. i could see us potentially messing with asriel in a past loop and causing problems, and kris making the undoubtedly extremely difficult decision to sever all contact with him from us because of it. i like this theory, because it doesn't make the player into the ultimate villain just for playing the game, and it posits that kris might not hate us- we need more takes where the player isn't automatically vilified for being a player of a game.

although, now that i think about it, some little things don't make sense- if kris had seen the dark worlds before, why would they back away from the open supply closet in chapter 1? they'd have no reason to fear what's inside (unless they were pretending so as not to seem to eager, but i dunno if susie'd care, she was inclined to believe at that point that she was imagining the scary stuff). also, their shock and horror at spamton's fate tells me they didn't see it coming.

MAYBE previous loops featured a DIFFERENT protagonist than kris, possibly susie or even noelle (or the hypothetical vessel we were supposed to make), and kris saw it all happening from an outsider's perspective, so they knew enough to cut us off from asriel, but didn't know the specifics of what they were getting into when the loop restarted with them as the "vessel". possibly they purposefully used some weird occult spells to make us posess them so we wouldn't ruin the lives of any of their friends again... maybe, in all the repeated restarts (resets?), something got jumbled up somewhere along the line, and dess got gonered/lost in the timelines/shattered across the universe like gaster in the process. maybe even papyrus caught on, with his possible connections to gaster, and is now tangled up in this mess too. oh, i LIKE this theory! thanks for bringing it to my attention! i used to be confused by theories that said that the roaring had happened before, but i love this iteration!

Hello everyone! Deltarune theory time that was written at almost 3 am! Spoilers for chapter 2 mentioned by the way!

Basically, I think Noelle having a HUGE prominence in the Spamton Sweepstakes is nothing to ignore. The fact we see Noelle's blog posts, the fact we get mentions of Dess, and even the establishment of Noelle being connected to not just Spamton but the entirety of chapter 2 as a while, seems VERY intentional.

Now, I believe that is because Noelle has a huge connection to the yellow soul, the justice soul. Justice for what? My evidence is admittedly lacking here, but I believe it could be Justice for Dess. She's been mentioned countless times in the sweepstakes, so she obviously plays an important part here. Noelle could possibly seek Justice for Dess later on in the following chapters?

But this leads me to my next point. What about the future chapters? I have a feeling the future chapters and all seven souls will all connect to a different character in the light world. There's seven days in a week, and seven souls. We know the first chapter represents Kris, and the second one Noelle.

I have a feeling the third chapter may actually focus on Toriel. Possibly to learn her backstory? I even believe her soul is going to be the green soul, the kindness soul.

Basically, I believe because Toriel phones the police to inspect her car and Kris opens the door before opening up the new dark world, I believe Undyne has a chance to accidentally slip into the dark world, OR she could have some connections to this new dark world.

We know that Spamton's boss fight has a lot of similarities to Mettaton, especially with the soul. If Toby Fox makes that a trend in the game, I wouldn't be surprised if Undyne had a similar connection with chapter 3's secret boss because of this. (I might make an in-depth post about this possibly later)

I also feel like Toriel is the perfect fit for the kindness soul. We see her acting kind to everyone, including Susie. She even lets Susie stay the night at her house because she is a friend of Kris'. Even if her Undertale boss fight did not include the kindness soul, Undertale is not canon to Deltarune, so anything goes ig.

This concludes my 3:00 am theory time. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope you're able to understand where I am coming from, I could always make a better post in the future XD

TLDR: I believe we will see all seven chapters and all seven souls be connected to a specific character from the light world.
