Luffy: I'm in the mood for a fast food sandwich.
Zoro: speak softly, idiot, don't let me hear you.
Sanji: what don't I need to hear?
Zoro: Shut up
Sanji:
Luffy: that I want a fast food sandwich.
Zoro: shit.
Sanji: do you prefer those sandwiches to the ones I make you?
Zoro: not again. . .
Sanji: answer Luffy.
Luffy: can't I choose?
Sanji: NO! YOU DON'T GO TO THOSE PLACES. I'll make you a sandwich a thousand times better.
Zoro: I'm tired

rewatching and the way luffy has no concept of personal space within his friendships is so endearing to me. the way he'll lay his head on nami's and straddle zoro and squeeze-hug koby without a single thought that it might be too much too fast. he loves like a little kid, and he sees the world like one too - just a massive playground where anything can happen. it's easy to see why his crew are drawn to him, especially nihilists like nami and zoro who have seen the worst of people. he represents the hopeful little kids inside them 😭

Zoro being just a little desperate for soft affection because people don't touch him gently. He's not something people handle with care or touch with careful intentions.
He's a swordsman
The first mate of the future pirate king and a god
A strawhat pirate
He doesn't mind it, because you can't miss something you don't really know, but sometimes he gets hints of it. Like Chopper taking care of his injuries or Robin's hands brushing against him as she hands him something. The others don't touch gently. They're pirates, liars, thieves and fighters.
It's hard to be gentle on the sea.
Luffy's too strong for his own good
Sanji's alway eager to pick a fight
Nami's not very familiar with gentleness herself
Usopp's too unsure
Franky doesn't trust himself
Brook doesn't think he's capable of it anymore
Zoro deserves gentle sometimes though, when he's more white bandages than tan skin or when he smells like blood rather than salt.
Sometimes he looks very breakable for how unbreakable he is.
There are times he looks soft, only with them.
When he lets himself wake up slowly, silver eye still cloudy with sleep and everything about him sleep ruffled and soft.
Or when he speaks with Chopper, letting his body loosen from a stricter hold and creating a welcoming atmosphere that always has Chopper climbing into his lap or dancing happily.
Always when he takes care of his swords, each movement done without too much thought after years of repetition. A critical eye looking them over before moving to the next, handled with a care that looks like it should be unnatural to a man like Zoro.
He goes sweet for them.
Looking as surprised as they do when he surges towards the gentle affection like he can't stop himself.
💙
Luffy throwing his arm around Zoro's shoulders, and touching, thoughtless and confident because he knows Zoro won't pull away. His fingers playing with earrings, petting at soft hair and brushing against skin.
Zoro can't help the little, protesting noise that slips out when it stops.
Luffy looks at him with a blank expression and observing eyes, the face he wears when he's serious about something. He returns his hand to the side of Zoro's neck and it's so careful, fingers caressing against his neck in little brushes and it has him melting.
Luffy's incredibly pleased because Zoro is such a warm, happy weight against his side, all loose limbed and practically purring.
He looks vulnerable and sleepy in a way that has a bubble of something growing in Luffy's chest. It threatens to choke him, his throat tight with it and his heart beating weird. He just keeps petting with confident but gentle touches.
Zoro buries his face in his shoulder and it knocks the wind out of his lungs. He wants to move, energy popping under his skin in happiness but he stays still. The arms he wraps around Zoro to drag him closer, half on his lap and still not close enough, are gentle.
💙
Sanji trying to figure out the best way to get Zoro back to the crew after a battle. Hovering because everywhere looks bruised and bloody, seriously it's like he tries to get cut up during his fights.
Finally getting him up enough that he can climb on Sanji's back and they'll try that way.
Zoro's lighter than he looks, they all know that but it's always a little surprising. He's quick on his feet, has used half the crew as spring boards for a push off in fights and he definitely wouldn't be able to do that so easily if he weighed what he looks.
He's a warm weight against Sanji's back and the cook can feel his thighs from where he's got his hands placed for support, they have a healthy layer of fat covering the muscle.
He's embarrassed by the pleased feeling he gets from that. The idea that Zoro is healthy and taken care of because of him is powerful. He's very proud of how the crew looks healthy and strong, nothing about them that suggests hunger or poor nutrition.
He brushes his thumb back and forth in a gentle way, briefly wishing he felt skin instead of fabric, before very quickly shoving that thought into a little box and placing it all the way to the back of his mind.
Zoro relaxes into him, body pressing heavier as he stops tensing up and his chin digging into Sanji's shoulder. He looks exhausted but his breathing has calmed and he almost looks like he could fall asleep.
Sanji just tugs him more securely against his back, desperately ignoring the way Zoro's legs tightens around his waist at the movement and how his chest pressing against Sanji's back has his nose itching. Zoro relaxes again and Sanji goes back to rubbing his thumbs back and forth, gentle and comforting.
💙
100% based on the ideas that:
Luffy just casually touches, hugs, climbs on, etc the crew whenever he wants because they're his.
Sanji is very proud that the crew looks healthy and strong, knowing it's because he's the one making their food.
Zoro being a strange type of touch starved that has him unconsciously giving off cat vibes of please pet me and I'm sorry if I get overwhelmed and bite.

How you met the Yandere Strawhats.
Tumblr media
A/N: Like my other yandere strawhats posts, you can decide if the relationship is platonic or romantic. (Also, still only on episode 155 so take that as you will)
When you think of yourself, you do not think you are Strawhat material.
Even at your tiny island, the Strawhat's were well known, there escapades in Alabasta being well known, and you were constantly reminded of them through their wanted posters.
You didn't really have an opinion on them, or any pirates in general. The others on the island, however, were very afraid of them, especially their Captain, Mokey D. Luffy. To you though, he looked like a dork.
When they showed up at your island, parading around like they owned the place, you couldn't care less, and you went about you day as if it was normal.
The other villagers were afraid to acknowledge them, treating them like a bad though, if they ignored them, they would go away. But the Strawhats wouldn't, of course, when they were stubborn.
You first met the Strawhats when you had to serve them at the restaurant you worked at. They were loud, two of them, who you recognized as Vinsmoke Sanji and Roronoa Zoro, arguing. The captain and two others, including a literal deer, were begging for food the moment you stopped at their table. It was overwhelming. and for a second, you understood why so many of your neighbors didn't like them.
After that, you saw them around frequently. The ginger, who you found out was Nami, the first one you actually met, asked you a show her round the island one day when she saw you on the street. It was more so of a soft demand, but you did so anyway. It was fun, you two shopping for new clothes together.
The next Strawhats you met was Zoro, who got lost one day when he was training in the woods. You were surprised that a grown man wasn't able to find himself around a small island, but you helped him either way. It took you a while to find the port, since Zoro kept insisting that he knew the way, getting you even more lost. During this, you had a nice conversation with him, asking him questions about his captain and why he joined the pirate group. He was pretty nice, and invited you to eat dinner with his crewmates, but you refused, saying you had dinner prepared at home. I was strange, he seemed almost sad to see you go.
Usopp and Chopper you met together when you were walking near the harbor. They seemed to be repairing parts of the ship, which did look like it was falling apart. They looked to be struggling, and you didn't have anything to do for that day, so you offered to help, which they appreciated. The whole time they tried to goof off with you, encouraging you to take a break once most of the ship was repaired. As much as you didn't want to, you had fun hanging out with them. They tried to prevent you from leaving, claiming there was more to repair, which you easily able to figure out was a lie.
Robin was a strange one. Before you met her, you barely saw he on the island, even when they first arrived. She showed up at you work and asked if you would like to have lunch with her. When she confirmed she would be paying, you hurriedly accepted. During the lunch, she revealed that a lot of her crewmates were interested in you, including her. She wouldn't give you a reason why, simply saying that her captain was going to convince you to join their crew. You gawked at her, and she changed the subject, the rest of the dinner going somewhat smoothly.
The next day, you did meet the infamous Monkey D. Luffy, standing outside your house door, waiting for you. When he saw you, he got super excited, and invited you to a diner at their ship, the Going Merry. When you opened your mouth to refuse, he agreed for you, and rushed back to, you assumed, the ship. You signed.
That afternoon, you met Sanji, their cook, at you job. At this point, you did not want to see anymore Strawhats, wanting to send him out of the restaurant, but you held your tongue. Sanji was very charming, asking you if you would like to eat with him, you saying you can't eat while you're working. He smiled, and reminded you of your dinner that night, complementing the food.
The dinner that night was more of a feast. You tried not to show up, but Luffy was at your door, ready to lead you to the ship. As the night went on, your anger washed away, and you forgot about what Robin told you. That was until Luffy, who was sitting at the head of the table, mentioned you joining. You didn't know what to say, afraid of answering, before Nami answered for you, saying you would be glad to join, wouldn't you?
You couldn't answer, looking around confused. You didn't know if it was the drink Sanji handed you randomly during the night, or if it was your own anxiety. You felt sick, and your vision became blurry. You heard someone say something, nodding your head along and who you assumed was Robin guide you towards another room on the ship. She laied you down on a hammock, smiling down at you as you tried to focus your vision in the dark room. She leaned in close to your ear, so close you could feel her breath on you.
"I told you so." You heard her say before falling asleep.

Someone used the tag bloodhound Zoro on one of my posts recently and FRIEND I'm so glad someone else thinks that way.
The guard dog/bloodhound dynamic is one of my absolute favorites when done correctly, especially with characters who are the embodiment of that type of dynamic.
Not sure if I have any leverage fans hanging around but I see this dynamic used with Elliot a lot and it's always really well done in that fandom.
Territorial
Loyal
Protective
Fearless
Alert
Adaptable
A little bloodthirsty
I could point out every instance of Zoro showcasing these characteristics and I could imagine every scenario that could happen for fic ideas.
But my favorite is the side that not everyone gets to see.
Being soft only for the people who matter
Coming back bloody from fighting and patiently waiting for affection
Only being able to relax with certain people
The love and trust needed to allow yourself to be vulnerable around someone
💚
Have some soft, guard dog Zoro brainstorm dust bunnies. Although he's 100% a guard cat if we're being honest.
Petting along his jaw and down his throat in soothing and firm touches.
It takes time but he lets them at his neck, belly, and back. When they grab around his waist they brush fingers against his side, barely feeling ribs under the muscles layered over them. Rubbing his shoulders and down along his spine when he falls asleep around them. The skin of his back so soft and smooth compared to the rest of his body. It's sensitive and breaks out in little goosebumps when they linger.
He's an oversized cat.
He goes from only light napping with his back against something to complete trust.
His head tipped back and his throat is left completely vulnerable. He curls on his side or lays on his front, back fully exposed. He sprawls on his back with arms tossed out to the side or over his head, belly left unguarded.
He doesn't wear shirts as much, skin growing warmer and warmer under all the sun until he's a full canvas of sun kissed skin. It makes his eyes pop, the green of his hair more vivid, and the color of his lips more distracting. The occasional flush that graces his cheeks is harder to spot but they're skilled at looking for it now.
He seeks out affection once he knows he'll get it and he's willing to let them give it.
Sleeping curled against someone's side, face pressed to their necks like he's tucking himself away in them. Draping across their laps like an oversized kitten, blinking up at them slowly until they take the hint and pet at him.
Sometimes when they're somewhere off ship or someone is traveling with them, he gets restlessness in a way that says he wants that affection. It's a way to relax, to uncoil all the tension in his muscles, and a way to show his care for them. He doesn't do well with words, but they all speak love differently and they know what he means.
He doesn't do that in front of anyone other than crew though and they're okay with that. The idea of Zoro being vulnerable around strangers makes them protective and the thought of anyone but crew seeing that side of him at all makes them feel possessive.
Only crew gets to see each other so innocent, vulnerable, exposed, submissive.
So they find work arounds.
Luffy sleeping curled around Zoro's back and possessive arms wrapped around the swordman's waist. Satisfying the urge for closeness and touch but still protected, all vulnerable spots hidden from anyone else's eyes.
After all, no one blinks an eye at Luffy clinging to Zoro.
Luffy presses his face into the back of Zoro's neck and top of his spine, biting marks into the skin because sometimes he's not good with words either. Zoro doesn't even flinch, still asleep and completely trusting of Luffy to do what's best.
Luffy passes it off loudly in the morning with cries of dreams filled with meat and Sanji can they have a bunch of meat for breakfast please?
Zoro doesn't hide it because he doesn't hide anything Luffy gives him and the crew all get stuck on it through the day. Staring at the skin, where the bruising has pulled blood to the surface and painted it different colors. The darker spots where teeth had been pressed.
The only mark anywhere near his back and it was given willingly. He isn't ashamed of the bruises on the top of his spine, almost flaunting them as he trains shirtless in the afternoon sun. Skin glowing with sweat and everyone within eye sight trying to discreetly stare.
It's not the last mark he gets and it becomes common for him to have marks and bruises on his skin. Bright colors and dark hues in shapes of fingers and mouths, usually resting by the hinge of his jaw, the top of his spine, or the top of his hips and lower belly, where there's just the very slightest hint of stubborn softness clinging.
💚
Am I obviously obsessed with Zoro being feral?
Showing his affection by letting people at vulnerable spots they could use to easily hurt him?
Is my soft, bottom, and/or submissive Zoro bias showing?
Yes

I think one of my “favorite” things is when people misinterpret what it means to be aroace. Watching people so clearly not understand the complexity behind the spectrum of aromatic and asexuality and then proceed to say they “stand with” aroace as an ally is so hilarious to me. Especially when they use this to start bashing on a perfectly fine ship, especially because said ship gets in the way of theirs.
Aroace does not mean no attraction. The plastered poster face for it is people who don’t feel ANY types of attraction, but that does not mean everyone. Aromantic people can date and fall in love. Asexual people can fuck. Aroace people can do both.
Yes, aroace rep IS needed. But we still have it via Luffy—just because Luffy kisses someone (hypothetically) doesn’t mean we just yeeted the aroace label off of him. He is STILL aroace. You know who else is aroace? Bon Clay, for one. Zoro as well. Yet I don’t see people screaming that shipping Zoro with someone completely erases the aroace label, now do I?
Ugh, I’d totally make a whole ass essay about this, but it’s half till midnight. It’s just. Been on my mind for a few hours and I need to say a little shit

AAAAAAAAAA WAIT WAIT if you finished wci then i gotta know how you felt during judge and luffy's final conversation when he starts listing all of the qualities he thinks are sanji's worst and then luffy waves him off w/o responding and is like 'wow why did he say all those nice things abt you?' and sanji's so bashful abt it
UGLY SOBS GODDDDD I cannot believe he actually said that 😭 I love that what traits Judge sees as “failures” Luffy sees as complete successes surrounding Sanji’s character. And he was so adorably oblivious too Judge was just shouting at them and Luffy was like “Okay yeah and he’s super pretty and he has nice abs and a cute butt, what’re you so mad about?” LMAO
