“No, Steph, I just don’t see the point of having a rich baby daddy if he’s still gonna behave like a fucking deadbeat,” I complain to my sister, rifling through my purse for my keys. “Like he don’t do shit for his damn son or me.”
I sigh, all I wanted was to get into the house. Not be stuck on the damn porch. A cool breeze flutters around me as I shift the phone to my other ear. I shiver a little, digging through my purse a little faster. I know I had them when I got out the car!
“We tried to warn you, sis. That boy ain’t shit and them Thrombey motherfuckers ain’t nothing to mess with. Marta told me they thought she was fucking the grandaddy, girl.”
“Who, Harlan?” I pause. “Marta’s into that geriatric shit?”
“Bitch, for the right amount of money--”
“Stephania,” I warn teasingly, but she continues.
“--I would be, too! They couldn’t prove it. But if she was fucking that old man, I wouldn’t blame her.”
“But ain’t she just his day nurse?” I ask, cradling the phone on my shoulder.
I rifle more rigorously through my purse. Where the hell are my keys?
“Yeah, girl! But they asses can’t imagine someone actually being a decent person ‘cause they’re all crooked as hell. They just assume everyone else is, too.”
I suck my teeth, growing irritated because my keys are still missing. “Fuck, Steph, let me call you back. I can’t find my--”
“Keys?”
The deep timbre of his voice sends shivers down my spine. I suck in a short breath, exhaling as I address my sister again.
“Steph, let me call you back.”
“Wait! Wa--”
I hang up the phone and drop it in my purse. I turn to face Ransom Drysdale who leans casually against my stair railing, dangling my keys from his finger. A lazy smirk graces his features as he shakes my keys at me tauntingly.
“You dropped ‘em on your way out of the car. You should really pay attention to your surroundings, kitten.”
His grin is cocky as he tosses my keys in the air and catches them. I keep my gaze impassive, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Ransom, how the hell did you get here?” I ask.
“I drove,” He replies, shrugging.
“Nig-- Ransom, no. How the hell did you find my house? We don’t exactly share the same area code anymore.”
“Oh,” he replies easily. “Darling, I’m rich. You don’t think I have ways of keeping tabs on my son?”
“Well, you’ve never shown much of an interest in him until now, so…”
Hurt flashes in his eyes, and I feel guilty for a moment. His tone becomes serious as he speaks again.
“That’s not true, Amalia. Don’t do that.”
“Yeah. Well, Facetime calls aren’t enough, Ransom.”
I snatch my keys from him, quickly opening the door. I intend to slam it behind me, but Ransom shoves his heavy-ass boot in the door. I groan in exasperation, as he follows me inside. I drop my purse on the chair by the door and slip off my shoes. The door shuts quietly behind me. I look back to see Ransom hovering by the door, surveying the space. For a moment, I feel insecure.
My little duplex isn’t much. The living room is modest with nice but inexpensive furniture decorating it. Baby toys are scattered all over the place along with paperwork from my job. A doorway leads directly to the kitchen with a pass-through and barstools. There’s also a little hallway off to the side that leads to the bedrooms and the bathroom. I know it’s not as lavish as Ransom is accustomed to, so I immediately feel defensive over my little home.
But as soon as the insecurity rises, I stomp it down. I did this on my own. Without him. So who gives a fuck what he thinks. After a while, Ransom still has yet to speak.
I sigh, turning my back to him.
“Take your shoes off if you’re planning on staying.”
I leave Ransom behind, wandering into the kitchen. Rummaging through the fridge, I find some leftovers from the night before and pop them into the microwave. Ransom takes a seat at one of the barstools as I go back to the fridge, pulling out a jar of Arizona tea. I fill a glass and slide it to him wordlessly. I fill up a glass for myself and lean against the counter furthest from him. The low hum of the microwave fills our otherwise silent environment.
I size Ransom up, taking in the noticeable changes I see in him. He’s not clean-shaven like he was the last time I saw him. Instead, he has a short, well-maintained beard. His hair is parted to the left and gelled precisely enough to give him a “lightly tousled” look. Very corporate. Very…not Ransom.
His greenish-blue eyes look dull. I would write it off as the lights not doing his eyes justice if not for the reflective glare he’s leveled his cup with. His eyes have lost that vitality and fire I always admired. Instead, there’s something vulnerable about him right now.
Despite this, his physique has not changed one bit. If anything, he’s been working out more. His shoulders fill out his off-white cable knit sweater, a soft look that contrasts his otherwise muscular frame. The muscles of his jaw tense, and I force myself to take a sip of tea instead of reaching to rest my hand on his face.
The shrill beep of the microwave startles both of us. I whirl around, spilling a bit of my drink on the floor.
“Fuck,” I curse, pulling my food from the microwave.
I set the steaming container and my cup on the counter near Ransom and grab some paper towels.
“Still clumsy as ever, huh, kitten?”
I scoff, wiping at the small puddle on the floor. Standing up, I trash the damp towel and turn to him with my hand on my hip.
“Don’t call me that.”
“Don’t call you what, kitten?” He shoots back, not missing a beat.
I roll my eyes. Just like that, the pensive, tired man from moments ago has disappeared. In his place is the insufferable man-child I fucked around and had a baby with.
“What are you doing here, anyway?” I ask, fishing through my drawer for a fork.
“I can’t see the mother of my son?” He teases. “After all, I never do anything for you or my son, right?”
Though I know he means it to come across lightheartedly, I can hear the edge in his voice. For the second time today, I feel guilty. I didn’t know he heard that. Still, I’m not going back on a damn thing I said. It’s not like I lied.
“It’s the fucking truth, Ransom. If you want me to take it back then you’re shit out of luck.”
He presses a hand to his chest, feigning offense. I toss the lid from the container aside and shove a bite of pasta into my mouth. Ransom continues with the dramatics, of course.
“How could you possibly say such a thing to the father of your child?”
He continues to “clutch his pearls”, his mouth agape. I chew slowly, arching my eyebrow at him.
“Are you done?”
Ransom huffs, rolling his eyes.
“You act like I had a choice in the matter. Besides, I didn’t make you leave,” He retorts. “You did that on your own.”
I squint at him, swallowing.
“You wanna go there, Ransom? You wanna do this right now?”
He twists his mouth, tugging his bottom lip with his teeth. Ransom slides from the barstool and strolls around the living room, shoving his hands in his jeans.
“Where’s my son?”
“That’s not your business,” I say, taking another bite.
He scoffs, flopping himself on the chair by the door. He fidgets in the seat, shifting to remove a stuffed bear from underneath him. He holds the well-loved toy between his fingers, grimacing before tossing it away.
“My son’s whereabouts are my business, kitten. I’m not asking the world of you to tell me where he is.”
“You’re right, you’re not asking the world of me,” I shrug, pushing my food around the bowl.
Ransom relaxes in the recliner, a smile stretching across his face. He starts to speak.
“Exactly, I’m glad--”
“But I’m not obligated to answer any of your damn questions. So either tell me what you brought your sorry ass here for or leave.”
Ransom’s blue eyes blaze, anger crossing his features.
“You’re a piece of fucking work, you know that?” He bites back, leaning forward. “Get off your high horse, Amalia. You’re the one that fucked off to Albany without a word.”
“Oh, so you do wanna go there!” I exclaim, rounding the pass-through. “Then let’s fucking do it, Drysdale. I’ve been waiting for this conversation.”
He stands to his full height as I confront him. Ransom is heads above me with his six-foot frame, but that doesn’t intimate me in the slightest. I stand chest to chest with him-- well, chest to midsection-- and talk my shit.
“You were the one that couldn’t keep your dick in your pants to save your life! Two hours before our son was born, where were you?”
Ransom grits his teeth, looking to the side. His stance falters a bit.
“Yeah, you didn’t think I knew that, did you? Tanya can’t keep her mouth closed for shit. If you gonna sleep around, at least find a bitch that doesn’t kiss and tell.”
Ransom at least has the sense to look guilty for one moment before he schools his features into an impassive glare. He crosses his arms, sneering down at me.
“I didn’t take you for the sensitive type, Amalia. Mad ‘cause that pregnancy pussy wasn’t hitting like you thought it was?” He mocks.
I laugh incredulously. “You wanna make this about my body while I was carrying your child? You wanna act like you didn’t damn near bust a nut every time you looked at me let alone fucked me? Fine, then let’s talk about where you were one week after your son was born.”
“What the hell are you on about? I was in Boston that entire time.”
I scoff. “Ok. Bet.”
I walk away from him, swiftly moving to snatch my phone from my purse. I tap around for a few minutes before shoving the phone in his face.
“That’s not your ass on a beach in Florida then?”
The picture shows Ransom, clear as day, cuddled up with an overly tanned blonde in Tampa, Florida.
Caught, Ransom pushes the phone out of his face. He drags his hand over his mouth, pacing away from me. He crosses back toward the kitchen as I place my phone in my pocket, turning to him with crossed arms.
“Cat got your tongue, bitch? Ain’t shit to say now, right?”
“Watch it, Amalia.” He snaps. “Who the hell sent you that?”
“It doesn’t matter. You’re a liar.”
“Yeah, okay I’m a liar. And you’re a fucking runner. What a pair we make,” He says dryly. “But none of this will hold up in court. Especially not against the best lawyers money can buy.”
The implications of his words hang in the air. His words are like a cold bucket of water suddenly being dropped on my head. For a moment, my world freezes. Questions swirl around my brain, bouncing against every nook and cranny.
Court? He wants to take this to court? Ransom wants to…what? Petition the courts for custody? Why now? Why is he doing this? What does he want with Shiloh?
I feel my body go cold as numbness seeps into my bones. The air feels static, almost sharp. Like breathing in tiny bits of glass. Then all at once, everything inside of me becomes deathly calm. My eyes meet his, brown and blue clashing as I step toward him.
“No, but you know what will hold up? Every sleepless fucking night I’ve had taking care of Shiloh. Every bill, every piece of clothing, and every bit of food I buy for that boy. Every moment I’ve spent with that baby since the second he was born will hold up in court.” I say, moving toward him.
“And if you think I don’t got the receipts to prove it then you got another motherfucking thing coming.”
I stand directly in front of him, my voice lowering as I look up at him.
“You wanna take this to court? Let’s. Fucking. Do it.”
Ransom stares down at me, his glare impassive. I steel my resolve, refusing to back down. His eyes search mine. I know he wants to call my bluff, but he can’t. Tucking his lips, Ransom finally looks away and sighs. He runs a hand over his face and then through his hair before pacing around the living room again. I wrap my arms around myself.
The coldness in my bones has settled, leaving me rattled and frozen in place. I stare at Ransom’s discarded glass on the counter.
Half-empty.
He paces silently. I stand there, continuing to stare into space. A heaviness settles around us as tension strangles the room. Then, Ransom sighs. A deep, heavy sigh laden with fatigue. He drops onto the recliner as if all the fight in him has vanished. He holds his head in his hands, breathing in deeply.
He exhales and lifts his head to look at me. His elbows are propped on his knees, hands clasped in front of his mouth. The man from earlier returns. The pensive, tired man with creased eyebrows and the entire world on his shoulders.
I swallow the pity I feel and give him a heated glare, daring him to break the silence. To piss me off further.
Instead, his eyes swarm with tears. I watch as his face contorts, a broken sob escaping him. He covers his face with his hands, sobbing silently.
I stand there watching him, frozen. Unsure of how to proceed. Ransom was never very forthcoming with his emotions. For once, I feel out of my depth with him. Do I comfort him? Or do I leave him alone to deal with his feelings?
The bitch in me wants to tell him to clean himself up and get the fuck out.
So, I shift awkwardly on my feet. I go back and forth for what seems like forever as he sits in front of me crying. I avoid looking at him, but the sound of his sobs isn’t exactly something I can ignore. I screw up when I take a glance at him, feeling immediately drawn in by the unabashed emotion on display. I feel myself giving in and wanting to succumb to the desire to console him. My resolve starts to crack and then…
Then, he looks up at me with pained, heavy eyes. My heart wrenches in my chest as he mumbles a garbled apology. I cross to him, sliding to the floor just as he crashes into my arms. The weight of his hug nearly knocks me over but I keep myself upright, holding him close to me. Ransom grips me tightly as I stroke his hair, whispering soft reassurances. He buries his face in my neck as apology after apology tumbles from his lips.
“I’m sorry, Amalia. I’m so fucking sorry.”
Were he not sobbing his face off, I might feel vindicated. I deserve this apology after all, right?
I gently shift his face from my neck, encouraging him to sit up on his own. I smile softly at him as he sniffs, wiping his eyes on his sleeve. I brush away a stray tear, stroking his face. He leans into my touch, giving me an all too familiar look.
I clear my throat and pull my hand away, wiping it on my pant leg.
“Ransom, what’s going on?” I ask quietly. “Why are you here?”
I steal a glance at him. He stares intently at me as if weighing his options. He licks his lips before releasing a heavy sigh.
“Harlan is dead.”
The words come out quietly and quickly. They roll off his tongue as easily as a “hello” or “goodbye”. But these words cause my heart to drop and lead fills my chest. My vision blurs and suddenly I can’t see. I blink the tears away and shake my head, searching his face for a lie. He stares back solemnly, tears leaking from his eyes.
“He…no, that’s not possible! He was just…” I trail off. “No…”
He props his arm up on one knee, dragging his other hand over his face. His head lolls back, resting on the recliner. He sniffs, wiping at his nose.
“He’s dead, Amalia. Died three days ago.”
My lungs feel as though they’re about to give out.
“How?” I push out, struggling to keep my emotions at bay. “How did he--”
I cut myself off, pressing a hand to my mouth. Ransom’s mouth presses into a thin line. He hesitates before speaking again.
“Heart complications.”
I release a heavy breath, my chest caving. My hand presses into my chest, trying o relieve the tightness that has accumulated. His words swirl in my mind as I try to comprehend them. Pressure rises in my head, and I think I’m sobbing but I can’t tell. My body feels foreign-- like it’s no longer mine. Like I’m floating above it.
He was just here, my brain screams. He was fine. He told me he was fine!
I talked to Harlan all the time. After Shiloh was born, Harlan Thrombey was the only person from that damn family to reach out to me at all. He offered money and moral support. I told him I didn’t want a dime. After all, it was Ransom’s responsibility. Not his.
“I guess I have a habit of cleaning up that boy’s messes,” He had said to me.
Still, the old man reached out weekly to update me on his health and to facetime with Shiloh. Now and then he still tried to send me cash, but I wouldn’t have it. His constant support meant more to me than his money. He stepped in when I felt like I had no one else in the world and, for that, I am eternally grateful. I had plans to surprise him with a visit next month so he could meet Shiloh in person.
But it’s too late now.
Suddenly, I slam back into my body and find myself wracked with sobs that echo off the walls. The tears tumble from my eyes of their own accord as I shrink into myself, curling into a fetal position. Ransom reaches for me, trying to comfort me. I thrash in his arms and push away from him. I don’t want his comfort. I don’t need it.
But he won’t give up. Instead, he pulls me closer and cages me between his legs, one propped up with the other stretched out. I scream and I cry and I struggle in his arms. Still, he holds me tighter. Eventually, I tire myself out and slump against his chest. I listen to the familiar thrum of his heartbeat and, against my better judgment, start to relax. One of his hands rests gently but solidly on the back of my head while the other rubs my back. I grip his sweater, rubbing the fabric between my fingers. My sniffles fill the otherwise quiet space as everything suddenly comes to a standstill.
The subtle rise and fall of his chest reminds me of a time before this. Before Shiloh. Before the arguments and the cheating. Before I ever knew who he truly was. My eyes burn again as a new wave of sadness rushes over me. But I stop myself short, refusing to give in to that pain. I buried it, and I can’t go back.
There are more important things to deal with now.
I sit up, untangling myself from Ransom. I feel his stare on me as I wipe my face and tuck my hair behind my ear. I cringe inwardly at how much of a mess I’ve probably made of myself. Self-consciously, I run my fingers through my hair and detangle some of the kinks. If this wig wasn’t laid as fuck, I’m sure it would be crooked and matted by now. I drop my hand to my lap with a sigh and bite my lip, searching for something to say. But for once, my words fail me. So, I settle for silence instead.
But Ransom has other plans it seems.
He reaches for the hand resting on my lap and holds it in his. He squeezes lightly and I look at him hesitantly. He smiles softly and releases a quiet breath. His thumb strokes the back of my hand as he looks away from me. He faces the direction of the large window behind the chair. The setting sun shines on his face, giving him a warm glow that highlights the green undertones in his eyes.
He draws his bottom lip in, running his teeth over it before releasing it. He lets out a short breath and nods to himself slightly. His gaze returns to mine, determined. I frown, uncertain of him. I move to withdraw my hand but he rests his other hand on top of mine. He gazes at me imploringly and this sudden change unnerves me further.
“Ransom, what is it?”
“Kitten, I need you to listen carefully to me,” He starts, his voice low. “Promise you’ll hear me out?”
I remove my hand, choosing to stand. Ransom sighs and stands as well. I cross my arms, arching an eyebrow.
“What is it,” I repeat.
He rests his hands on his hips. His head tilts towards me a little as he frowns, his forehead creasing. Then, he crosses his arms and turns away from me for a moment. He faces the window, placing one hand over his mouth. I grow impatient and huff.
“What the hell is it? What are you not saying!”
Ransom sighs and looks at me over his shoulder. He looks back out of the window before finally turning back to me. He lifts his hands, his palms out toward me.
“Okay, okay. There’s…Harlan left a will,” He says.
I shake my head, shrugging.
“Okay, and?”
A hand drops to his hip as he drags the other through his hair.
“Look, my granddad was incredibly fond of you. He loved Shiloh,” Ransom rambles. “And…and so he wanted to take care of the two of you.”
“Yeah, and I told him that I never wanted his money. That Shiloh was your son and that I would be fine. Y’all know that. He knew that.”
Ransom laughs shortly, shrugging. “He was a stubborn bastard. We all knew that.”
I rub at my temples as the beginnings of a headache rise.
“Get to the fucking point, please.”
“Fuck, okay. Listen,” He says, exasperated.
He places his hands on my shoulders and levels me with a deep stare.
“Amalia. Harlan…he left-- fuck.” He pauses, swallowing thickly. “He left half of his estate to you.”

saw @swordcoasts do this template the other day and i thought i would fill out a template after 86 years. why not. hello hi.
some thoughts under the cut
i was thinking about adding my art as pictures since i did paint almost everyone but Not everyone so it would look weird. this is already extremely half-assed and inconsistent so like. we don’t need pictures. listen i filled out a template after a very long time i just had a good time thinking about my ocs, it doesn’t Have to look like it’s supposed to look like 2 people will see it anyway who cares. also especially the figure fillings are all over the place 1) yes i filled those out by hand 2) don’t worry about it.
the funniest part to me is on the kaz/aloth template and that they Both waited for confession....................... aloth confesses first in the end because kaz is in a life-long denial of having emotions/feelings, but still. they are my favourite little blorbos in love for sure because it’s so painfully slow. love them.

It’s also really strange that at the moment ice dance is emphasizing older teams over the age of 30 who hang around multiple Olympic cycles, the ISU is also pushing “themes” that - if we’re being honest - only work when performed by young people. But those young teams aren’t being rewarded! So the net result is a field of top teams who are doing RD’s that look awkward and like middle-aged people trying to be cool. If you’re the ISU and you want to reward longevity and have that be the face of your sport - which is clearly the case right now - fine, but then maybe also pick themes that these more mature teams can excel at? Who wants to watch Evan and Charlene and Marco and Piper do “dance party”? You can’t have it both ways. If you want the sport to be more youthful, you also have to reward young teams who can pull this off with some credibility.
nothing about the changes they're making is about further identifying, encouraging or rewarding great skating 😬
maybe the issue isn't which age skaters should be rewarded but that the ISU needs leadership who act like they're proud of what's happening on the ice in their sport -- why do they want to encourage more gimmicky programs than highlight the best of the work that's being done right now? idgi but there's a shallowness to their vision and a lack of valuing skating
do they really think a bunch of cynical Rocky-type programs are going to grab people? it's the most beautiful sport, why can't they figure this out?

I love y'all, but there's no way in hell P/C come out with anything remotely daring or iconique or game-changing. Just look at their current exhibition piece, it's such a snooze, and I got really excited when I saw the costumes but they didn't do anything new movement-wise and they certainly didn't try any new facial expressions. They'll find the snooziest classical music for the free and the most pretentious French auteur movie soundtrack for the RD next year, complete with voiceovers. At the end of the day, why would they change anything when they've been so rewarded for the same-old, same-old? The only thing I look forward to is skating skills mattering in ice dance again, it's fallen off a cliff and it's sometimes painful for me to watch. I actually hope C/B retire for their sake because they've seemed so over it in certain competitions, Evan in particular I think has been holding on primarily for her and because there's been a lack of other opportunities, but I think he's mentally and physically and emotionally so done, and now if they get gold Olympic team medals, I don't know why they'd subject themselves to the comparison.
Correct. I think P/C are categorically unable to not be giant bores on the ice, it's just what they do. They aren't versatile skaters, they can do one thing very well, but that is really it.
I heard rumblings that C/B intimated that this Nats may be their last, which is why they skated despite being in such bad shape, so praying praying praying they retire after this season.

@greens-your-color prompt # 90 - HOGWARTS
summary: lily is faced with the reality of severus' condition and how it opens up different paths for the both of them.
wc: 3296
--
“So what do you think then?”
“Of what?”
“Hogwarts. I mean…we both got letters. You’ve had yours for a while.”
“Which is proof that I actually am older, thanks very much.”
“Severus. Be serious.”
“Well, I wasn’t joking.”
Lily huffed out an annoyed sigh. She clenched her fingers tight around the thick envelope she had in her hand. The same one Professor McGonagall had handed to her just that morning, nearly identical to the envelope that Severus had received on his own birthday just two weeks past. Her name glistened in green ink across the back:
Miss L. C. Evans
The Corner Bedroom with Lots of Sun
10 Hartington Rd.
Chiswick, London
She hadn’t opened it yet, and had merely satisfied herself with rubbing her finger against the raised wax seal. She knew what it said, anyway. She had read Severus’ own letter (addressed to Mr S. T. Evans, The Green Room at the End of the Hall)several times already since he had a habit of leaving it out in random corners of the house. She suspected he had also gone through it several times, although she had yet to see him actually take more than a passing glance at it.
Severus himself was at his desk, busy with an RC car that he had taken apart and was putting back together ‘with modifications’. He didn’t seem to be the least bit bothered with what Lily was trying to ask him. That was the most annoying bit. Lily already felt fit to explode, and her brother, who she felt should have felt the same at the very least, was carrying on with his usual business. It was, she silently fumed, completely unacceptable.
“Severus, you know what Professor McGonagall said—”
“She said lots of things. You have to be more specific.”
Lily narrowed her eyes at her brother, quickly losing patience. “Well, are you coming to Hogwarts with me or not?” she asked, her tone more than a little snippy. It didn’t seem as though Severus was even listening to her but she knew that he was, because his hands suddenly stopped fiddling with the chassis of the car that he was trying to snap closed.
Professor McGonagall had given Severus and their parents only until the end of the month to decide whether or not Severus wanted to be admitted into the school. That was tomorrow, and none of them had so far given any indication that they had made a decision, despite the old professor having shown up again earlier that day to give Lily her letter. Because they had already been given the full introduction to Hogwarts during Severus’ birthday, she hadn’t bothered to do the same with Lily, although she had offered to answer any further questions Lily had that had yet to be addressed.
The only thing Lily wanted to know, really, was whether or not her brother was going to come with her.
“Do you want me to go?” Severus asked. He refused to look at her, and was fiddling with a piece of sellotape that he’d peeled off of God-knows-where. The question made Lily feel several emotions at once.
“What kind of a stupid question is that?” she said, suddenly feeling defensive. “Of course I do!”
Severus hummed under his breath and proceeded to put the RC car back together. He’d previously fixed it so that it could now zoom up steep inclines, and had also wired it a certain way so that it would play the Macarena when it got to a certain speed. The car looked ridiculous now with its bits and bobs but Lily had no doubts that whatever Severus had added on to it this time would still work.
She flopped down on the braided rug beside Mercutio and waited for her brother to respond further. She knew he was going to; when Severus was thinking over his words he jiggled his legs, and the way he was going now was making his desk rattle.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t go to Hogwarts. When Professor McGonagall had explained Hogwarts in its entirety to them and their parents for the first time, she had done it in such a way that the people they had all met up and down Diagon Alley and St. Mungo’s never had, which was that she answered all their questions clearly and honestly, and it was only then that they all began to realize the implications of going there would be, especially for Severus.
It was…all in all, a typical school, but there were flying lessons, Charms classes, moving staircases, even poltergeists. It was everything Lily looked forward to seeing and experiencing, especially after she had been exposed to the Wizarding World for a while now, but also ones she knew would be a challenge for her brother. At the moment he was on an indefinite trial run for potions to help dampen his accidental magic whenever he had a fit and had to submit to testing once a month. That didn’t even count the times when he had to go to hospital just because his magic was going mad due to his epilepsy. Lily wasn’t sure what would happen if he moved up north. Would the Healers have to go to him? Would that also mean he’d be excused from classes or study period? What if he had a fit in school?
“I can help keep an eye on you, you know, in Hogwarts. Even if we were in different Houses. Maybe I can even ask them if we could be in the same one,” Lily said, voicing what she’d already decided for herself. Severus threw her a look from where he was sitting, looking bewildered.
“It’s school, Lils. You’re not there to play nursemaid.” Severus sounded annoyed. Lily frowned at him.
“It’s not as if it’s going to be any different than how it would be when we’re here,” she countered, fully prepared to win the argument she knew was about to take place. Their family had already gotten used to certain routines that usually revolved around Severus’ needs. Admittedly, it was not something Lily always looked forward to doing: hospital stays, checkups, tests, and emergencies took up a lot of time and were all very tiring, not to mention, scary. But she was used to it, somewhat. She knew what to do at least if something happened. Whether or not they’d be at home or at Hogwarts, how different would it be? Wouldn’t it even be better since they would be among wizards all the time? At least there no Muggles would be at risk, and the Ministry wouldn’t have to keep warning them about the Statute of Secrecy…
Severus snorted derisively. “It wouldn’t even be nearly the same. It’d be way different.”
“I know how to handle your stuff!”
“Lily, you can’t call 999 if anything happens up there. You heard what McGonagall—”
“Professor McGonagall.”
“—Professor McGonagall,” Severus rolled his eyes in a way that she knew would have made Mum scold him if she’d seen, “said. Muggle things don’t work in Hogwarts. And you can’t be with me all the time.”
“Well, you have Mercutio, don’t you?” Her brother’s service dog had a special magical collar that also acted as a portkey in emergencies, and was trained to transport Severus to St. Mungo’s in those circumstances, as well as alert their parents. “He’ll be right there with you. You wouldn’t need to call 999.”
“Yeah, but it’s dangerous for him to be there as well.” Severus lifted his leg up from the floor to rest his foot on the chair. He hugged his knee to his chest. “He’s not a magical pet. Professor McGonagall said she doesn’t know if the magic will affect him. I don’t want to hurt him.”
“So, what are you saying then?” Lily’s hand had found Mercutio and she rubbed his belly as she stared resolutely at her brother. Her stomach had started doing funny little flips as the conversation went on. “Are you going or not?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to go.” Severus didn’t look at her as he spoke. He looked defeated, almost. The same way he did when the Healers and doctors wanted him to take something nasty that they said could help him. “But I don’t think I can.”
Lily felt her face grow warm at his words, already indignant on his behalf. The hold she had on her Hogwarts letter tightened considerably.
“Of course you can!” she snapped. “Who said you can’t? Professor McGonagall already said you can!”
“Will you listen?” Severus turned to her, looking more than a little angry now. Lily stuck her tongue out at him.
“It’s my birthday,” she reminded him. “If you’re rotten to me today, I will tell on you.”
Severus groaned but then stood up and, to her surprise, went to join her on the rug. He stretched out on his back, sandwiching Mercutio between them. Mercutio, great big loyal brat that he was, moved away from Lily to edge up against his charge.
“I want to go to Hogwarts more than anything in the world.” Severus said, in a voice so soft that Lily wasn’t sure he was even speaking.
“So why don’t you?” Lily softened her tone to match her brother’s. Her fingers started twisting around a loose piece of thread that hung off her shirt sleeve. “I mean…it’ll be really fun, Sev. We’ll be among wizards 24/7 and won’t need to worry about the Statute or anything. And we’ll be learning magic properly. Next time we go to St. Mungo’s we can brag to Healer Livingston that we won’t need the special wards anymore for uncontrolled magic.”
She had meant for it to be comforting, but that sentiment quickly melted away when she saw Severus’ expression.
“You won’t.” Severus gave her a crooked smile. “But I will.”
“It won’t be forever, surely—” she felt herself flush as she desperately attempted to cover up her faux pas, but Severus was already waving a hand to stop her.
“Lily! Stop. Don’t even say it. You know it’s forever.”
“No, it’s not!”
Although there were times when talking about Severus’ condition was all right and normal, other times it made her unspeakably angry. This was clearly one of those times.
“You don’t know that it’s forever,” she repeated. “The doctors and Healers have all said there’s still a chance you can outgrow it or get rid of it.”
“Muggles can.” Severus said, addressing her as though she were a small child. Lily resented him for it. “I won’t be able to, unless they figure out the proper potions for it.” He shrugged, his bony shoulders nearly reaching up to his ears. “I’d have to keep going to St. Mungo’s and doing all the tests and things too anyway, and I can’t do it if I’m at Hogwarts.”
His logic was still unclear to her. “That’s not true,” Lily protested. “Surely there’s an infirmary there of some sort for ill students? And the Healers can go to Hogwarts if they need to.”
“Yes, but…I don’t want to be different. You heard McGonagall: I’m a ‘special case’.” He made air quotes around the word and made it somehow sound even more sarcastic. “There’s been no one like me at Hogwarts, so they’re also not sure how to handle it. I can’t even Floo on most days…what’s going to happen when we have to learn to Apparate?”
“Well, we adjust. Why wouldn’t they?” Forget indignance; she felt rage. Was he saying that he didn’t expect people to change up some things to accommodate him? Was that what McGonagall had meant? She couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t, in the first place. She shook her head, desperate to maintain her stance. “I’m sure you’re worrying over nothing. Hogwarts is more than capable of making arrangements for you.”
Lily understood the struggle of being in Muggle school with the condition Severus had, but Hogwarts was a magic school, for Merlin’s sake. Surely they could — would — accommodate her brother’s needs. What kind of horrid school wouldn’t? Especially since it was magic that was causing all this trouble in the first place.
“But that’s just it, Lils. I don’t want them to adjust. I don’t want…people staring and pointing and giving me a label like…I don’t know. The boy who can’t control his magic? The boy who falls to the floor at random and has fits? Epilepsy isn’t a wizarding illness, remember? They don’t know about it at all, and I don’t want to explain it to wizarding kids. It’s hard enough to do it with the adults.”
Lily was finding it hard not to snap at her brother. “So you won’t go because you’re scared?” she said, knowing the word would trigger him into getting angry. She needed his anger now, to goad him into changing his mind, but to her surprise, he just shrugged.
“I am scared,” he said. “There are too many unknown things. I don’t want to hurt other people, or Mercutio. And I don’t want to be hurt.” He made a face. “You’re a pain but I don’t want people to make fun of you because of me either.” His gaze traveled elsewhere, refusing to look at her face. “They already do that here, sometimes. I’ve heard them.”
It was Lily’s turn to roll her eyes. Her brother was seriously underestimating what she was capable of. “I think I can handle myself, thank you very much.”
Severus smirked. “You’ll end up crying every day and have eyes so swollen you wouldn’t be able to see with them.”
Lily’s eyes widened. She hated it when her siblings teased her about how easily she cried.
“Hey—!”
“And I’d have to write Mum and Dad and tell them about it, and Toons is going to freak because our owls will probably fly into her classroom by mistake.”
Lily gasped, this time in delight. She and Severus had already gotten their own owls, back on Severus’ birthday. Needless to say, Petunia had not been pleased, always nattering on about feathers and droppings and such, even though Apollo and Artemis were extremely well-behaved, in Lily’s opinion.
“You think they would go to her though? If they can’t get to Mum and Dad?”
Severus grinned. “Undoubtedly.”
They shared a giggle at Petunia’s expense but when Lily caught her breath, tears had already pooled at the corners of her eyes. She quickly sat up, wiping at her face furiously with her shirt sleeve.
“I won’t go then.” She declared. “I don’t want to be there without you. Oh Sev! It’s so unfair!”
Severus looked up at her with a stunned expression. He pulled himself up to a sitting position and glared at her.
“Don’t say such horrible things, Lily! You want to go. I know you do. And you should! It’ll just be like how we’re already doing school here—”
“No it’s not!” Lily snapped at him. “You know it isn’t. It’s going to be completely different! How would you be able to stand still learning Maths and History and Geography when you could be learning about spells and potions and how to make things float! It isn’t the same, Severus. So either we both go or none of us goes.”
Severus sighed. “You’re being ridiculous.”
Lily sniffled. Even though she had already decided she could still feel her heart breaking. “I’ll tell Mum and Dad later.”
“You’re being stupid.” Severus said, but his tone wasn’t as sharp as it usually would have been. “Lily. You have to go to Hogwarts. You’re a witch. There’s no reason for you not to go. And besides…” A mischievous glint suddenly twinkled in Severus’ eyes. “You need to go. You don’t have a choice.”
Lily turned to her brother to frown at him. Quickly she wondered if he’d gone soft in the head within the last ten minutes that they’d been talking. “What?”
“Think about it: if you go to Hogwarts and learn all the stuff, we can invent even more new spells and things to test out when you come home. It would drive Healer Livingston mad.”
The prospect of unleashing havoc in St. Mungo’s just to see Healer Livingston’s face was too tempting. Lily bit her lip. “Sev, you have to be learning all this stuff with me! I can’t stand knowing you won’t be able to. And I’m not a very good teacher anyway. I can’t come home and suddenly just teach you everything!”
“Who says you’d have to?” Severus had a glint in his eye that Lily already knew forewarned trouble. “Lils…you’re a genius! Clever little crybaby.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I won’t be going to Hogwarts, but I will be asking McGonagall if I can still take up the lessons that you lot are going to take. You remember when Healer Aggarwal had that patient at the Spells Damage ward who was a private tutor? He was tutoring wizarding kids, so there must be someone they can get to keep me up to speed with whatever you’re taking up. It can’t be that hard. And I learn fast.”
Lily rolled her eyes, but couldn’t really contest Severus’ claim. Her brother was clever, and frighteningly so. She didn’t doubt that he could learn magic as well as he had already taken to Muggle lessons.
“We’ll tell her then. Tomorrow. You’ll be going to Hogwarts in the fall, but we’ll be getting two sets of whatever books and things you’re buying for school. I’m not going to be falling behind.”
His tone was decidedly final, and somehow, Lily felt comforted by the compromise. She had wanted Severus to be alongside her at Hogwarts, learning magic, but logically knew that Severus was right to refuse the invitation. Besides, in this way…it would be nice to have a space that was just hers and where she wasn’t reduced to ‘Severus’ sister’. She loved her brother but it did get tiring to live under his shadow, or relegating herself to the side all the time since his needs came first.
Suddenly, the whole plan didn’t sound mad at all.
“Are you sure then?” she asked, not wanting for Severus to tease her for changing her mind so suddenly about not going. He was already grinning.
“Positive! Back me up tomorrow so Mum and Dad will also agree. They probably will anyway. I don’t think they want me to be so far away either but they’re scared of keeping me back.”
“And if Professor McGonagall doesn’t agree?”
“Oh she will,” Severus said confidently. “She looked rather impressed that I could already do level 1 Transfigurations.”
“You cheat!” Lily said hotly. “We both can do it! Did you tell her Andi and Tonks have been teaching us all these years?”
“Well she didn’t ask.” Severus grinned. This time he looked at Lily. “It’ll be fine, Lils. You can go to Hogwarts then tell me all about it. I’ll learn magic here and then when you come home, I’ll blast your arse out the door.”
Lily colored. “Rude!” She got to her feet. “I’m telling Mum and there’ll be no cake for you after dinner.”
The echoes of Severus’ laughter trailed her as she left his bedroom, and despite her annoyance, Lily smiled at the sound. She hugged her Hogwarts letter to her chest, finally allowing herself to feel excited at the prospect of her attending.
She was going to Hogwarts! And Severus was going to be staying where he was safest. Even if McGonagall didn’t agree Lily had already decided to teach him her lessons herself, or maybe Andi could. Or knew someone who could. Either way it wasn’t the end.
Everything would be just fine.
end.

When I saw this gorgeous 1925 home in Flossmoor, Illinois, my jaw dropped, and I thought I was in the English countryside. Look at that roof!!!! $650K.
Tumblr media
But, I have never been so disappointed. They redid the whole house and it’s just about entirely pale modern gray. Well, the front door is original.
Tumblr media
I mean, it’s not terrible, but did they have to make it gray? Even the new tile around the hearth?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brand spankin’ new kitchen. Okay, I give them points for the copper farm sink. They did mix up the cabinets a bit, but it’s still so white.
Tumblr media
Like the blue ceiling in the family room.
Tumblr media
The main bd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Completely modernized bath.
Tumblr media
There are a total of 4 bds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, 3 very modern baths.
Tumblr media
Basement family room with blue ceiling, too.
Tumblr media
Large patio.
Tumblr media
The garden looks lovely lit up at night, but I’m so disappointed in the remodel.

2023 GPF Thoughts - Sr Dance
madison chock and evan bates (usa) are still on top of their game. two extremely solid programs. i am in love with their time/dali/pink floyd free dance. my only complaint is that madi is STILL clearly better than evan, even after all these years. he needs to do better and skate up to her level. 1 RD / 1 FD / 1
charlene guignard and marco fabbri (ita) are my current favorite senior dance team. their programs are GORGEOUS, especially their theory of everything free dance. absolutely stunning. and their rhythm dance was the most fun of them all! their choreography and expression is top notch, and i wish they were rewarded more strongly for it. they're on par with madi and evan, not below them. 2 RD / 2 FD / 2
piper gilles and paul poirier (can) are so consistently beautiful. their turns, edges, and lifts are smooth and flowing, and their programs are wonderful. however. their wuthering heights fd costumes are the wrong color. they should have picked any color other than pink. 3 RD / 3 FD / 3
lilah fear and lewis gibson (gbr) are my favorite underdog team since olivia smart and adrian diaz (esp). they have so much fun every time they step on the ice, and their programs are wonderfully suited to them. that rocky free dance is *chefs kiss*. the judges need to start rewarding them for their new, genre-pushing style and execution rather than holding them to whatever they think the old, traditional standard is. i desperately need them to get a world medal, if not this season, then next. they deserve it. 4 RD / 4 FD / 4
laurence fourier beaudry and nikolaj sorensen (can) are soooo beautiful to watch. their flow across the ice is wonderful, and their programs are so well-suited to their skating. i'm OBSESSED with their top gun rhythm dance. what a way to take the 80s theme and run with it. piper and paul better watch out, because laurence and nikolaj are worthy successors, and they're out to prove it. 5 RD / 5 FD / 5
marjorie lajoie and zachary lagha (can) are equally as beautiful as laurence and nikolaj. great speed, smooth edges, and wonderful lines. their free dance is so goddamn pretty, i love it so much. they're equally as hungry for success as laurence and nikolaj too, and i love seeing the depth of talent in canada's ice dance program. would not be surprised if we get a canada-majority or canada sweep world ice dance podium soon, with marjorie and zach on it. 6 RD / 6 FD / 6

Love on the Brain - sneak peek
Hello 🥰 The third chapter of LOVE ON THE BRAIN is in under intensive editing, but I figured I could give you a hint at what is going to be happening 🤭
Happy weekend! 🥰  I hope I’ll make it happier when I post this chapter in full
Warning: one F-bomb.
Tumblr media
Steve was beginning to see red.
“Do you really think it’s important?” Steve questioned, a little bite to his tone. You casted him a sideway glance – a tiny wrinkle between your brows, because you noticed his ire.
Good. Or was it?
“It’s probably not as significant to you, but combined with whatever was happening in the unsub’s life, it could have a meaning,” Agent Hotchner supplied helpfully. “How often do you leave for mission this long or longer?”
“It’s not uncommon. Two, three times a month. Some are for a week, rarely longer, but most of them are done within a day or two.”
“Hm…”
“You think it could be that the unsub was, uhm… missing him?” you suggested, searching gaze drifting to Steve from Hotch as you were trying to decipher Steve’s suddenly sharper voice.
Okay, not good. Being in your disgrace was the last thing he wanted or needed right now.
“That’s what I’m thinking, yes. And the first thing they saw was him with a woman, again.”
“So they got a little green,” Natasha hummed, gracing Steve with a sideway glance, eyebrow inconspicuously raised.
Steve stared stubbornly ahead, avoiding her jab. Damn her observation skills.
“That would be my thought, yes.”
“Huh, I don’t even… I would have never thought of that on my own,” you whispered, causing Steve’s heart to stumble in his chest – it startled him to think you already saw through his antics. But your eyes were firmly set on the board until they skimmed over the BAU agents. “I’m really glad you guys are here to help.”
“We’re glad to help,” Reid assured you oh so helpfully, winning another of your smiles; and a look that lingered a bit too long and was a lot warmer that Steve would like. “We miss you in the team.”
Yeah, Steve could fucking bet.

Note
Ted/Evan is that you? Who in their right mind goes that hard for RD of all shows?
They weren't rude and used their real name, so I appreciate that, genuinely.
But while Riverdale THINKS it's making a profound social statement, it really never is. It never has. It in fact gets markedly worse and more offensive with each stumbling attempt to make any kind of social commentary.

u seem like a reasonable person so i just want to put this out there re: the depp-heard trial
this trial being televised was requested by depp's legal team precisely to garner the reaction that it did. depp's team bought bots to drive the online conversation to be very biased (hence popular monikers such as amber t*rd abt an incident that has been thoroughly debunked). multiple legal experts (who are not grifters ie profiting from the agreeableness of their views) have commented on how irregular depp's legal team's strategy was — not only did they fail to really prove any financial damages, given depp lost major roles of his own volition, but they resorted to character assassination because this was more about PR for depp than winning the case. this became exceedingly clear to me when i watched one of amber's full cross examinations — the lawyer on the other end was exceedingly rude, cut her off at multiple points (when she asked a question!), and generally seemed like she was trying to get as many tiktok soundbites in as possible (which worked, i guess. lol). unlike heard's lawyers, depp's team also perpetuated harmful DV myths such as "why didn't she leave," "why didn't she document all her injuries," "why didn't she have darker bruising," "why did she buy her abuser gifts," "why didn't she tell anyone," and so on. (never mind that she did all the things we tell abuse victims to do!) heard is also the first person to ever provide televised sa testimony — which, btw, was immediately used as a tiktok sound by depp fangirls commenting on how they found it hot and would love to be on the receiving end of it.
i also want to address the anon who talked about msm journalists pushing an agenda or whatever, which.. lol. i think anytime u start distrusting credible news outlets and raving about how the mAinStReAm mEDiA is out to get u, ur veering into to qanon/trumper territory. the only outlets to lend depp support are right-wing, such as ben shapiro's daily wire — and that's not a coincidence. op i totally understand the inclination to avoid pro-AH perspectives given the terfs who have flocked to her, but a significantly larger proportion of depp supporters are MRAs/incels, so ur not going to avoid bad ppl no matter who u support.
some anecdata — literally all DV experts i've come across (such as lundy bancroft who wrote one of the most acclaimed DV books ever, the person who coined the term DARVO (and said it was the legal strategy depp employed against heard), julie owens who wrote a 27-page paper explaining why heard was the abused party, and the literal national coalition against domestic violence) have supported heard in this trial. msm journalists have largely avoided the subject of who is guilty, but have commented on the damaging consequences of the online conversation and how it's not as onesided as social media coverage would have u believe. and anyone who HAS commented explicitly has supported AH.
it's also worth reading the article she was sued over, in case u haven't already, because it's so laughably not about depp that it makes it even clearer to me that this was a circus and not a trial. but anyway
given the way u talk abt this case i don't think you've really dug into it, which i respect tbh, but i also think it's important to acknowledge the sweeping ramifications this will have for abuse victims everywhere. hundreds withdrew their abuse filings in the hours after the verdict was announced, and depp has just demonstrated a very effective playbook to the world by which someone can sue their victim and win. depp's bestie marilyn manson (accused by over 10 women) has done the same to evan rachel wood, and their trial will begin in few months' time i believe.
some starting articles i would rly recommend are "the bleak spectacle of the depp-heard trial" by michael hobbes and "who's afraid of amber heard" by rayne fisher-quann. they're short but informative reads.
obviously i would have loved to never care abt this —i was actually a huge potc fan and casually thought "good for johnny" when all this first began. but it's been inescapable and has been the largest online explosion of misogyny i've ever witnessed. i hope you reconsider ur stance and i'd be happy to provide some more resources for u if you'd like to start digging. thanks
I'ma be honest this is hard as fuck to read just because it's a giant text wall but I'm going to do my best to respond to each point individually.
First and foremost, I don't disagree that there was heavy media bias towards Depp. There were plenty of outlets in support of Heard as well, but generally speaking a lot of people were (and still are) on Depp's side. You have to remember that this is a defamation case, not a domestic violence case, which is why there was so much emphasis on PR. Depp (from what any of us understand) was falsely accused of abuse and took Heard to trial for defaming him, NOT for abusing him, even though that did become a big part of the case later on. I also don't see how the legal team of either of these people is a reflection of THEIR views, but I'll get back to that in a bit.
I should also state that there were people in the public sphere, both in defense of Depp and Heard, perpetuating myths about domestic violence, sexism, and blatant victim blaming. The mutual abuse argument is one I've seen used a lot in defense of Heard which is quite literally an abuse tactic, especially in response to reactive "abuse."
Also, mainstream media is a disease, I'm sorry. Both the pro-Depp and the pro-Heard ones, it doesn't matter, I hate any and all msm with a burning passion and comparing a distrust of it to a fucking far-right internet conspiracy cult is incredibly tone-deaf. The majority of news is just what the government WANTS us to hear and not what is actually going on, but I digress.
Lumping MRAs in with incels is equally tone-deaf and while I don't consider myself to be an MRA outright, I do follow a decent number of MRA blogs (some of which run by women!) who have been incredibly helpful to me as both a trans man and a male victim of abuse.
I also know from experience that situations like these are rarely one-sided. Coincidentally enough, while the Heard/Depp conversation is resurging, my stepdad is currently in prison on a domestic violence charge that my mom didn't even press to begin with -- it was pressed on her behalf. "It's important to acknowledge the sweeping ramifications this will have for abuse victims everywhere" my ass, the law is still HEAVILY skewed against men considering our prosecutor has literally been filing charges under my mom's name without her permission in order to persecute a man who she didn't feel victimized by to begin with and, on her own admission, provoked and engaged in combat with on her own volition. I know this is nothing more than anecdotal but you cannot seriously tell me that women are going to die when ONE male celebrity won a defamation case. Again, not a domestic violence case, a defamation case.
You're right that I didn't actively follow the trial. As I've stated before I don't give two shits about Depp or Amber and their personal lives. What I DO give a shit about is blatant fearmongering and misinformation. If this case supposedly is soooo harmful to abuse victims, then why is my stepdad falsely imprisoned on a DV charge that my mom didn't even press to begin with, under the guise of “protecting women”, months after the Depp vs Heard trial? Hm? Riddle me that.
You strike me as a person who believes everything that other people tell you. You believe the mainstream media that all have their own agenda, you believe the experts who are not infallible or immune to bias, and you believe senseless fearmongering even though nothing has really changed.

My favorite RD is far and away Christina and Anthony. Today didn’t feel like their best outing of it, but given how strict the panel was being I feel like their 72 is pretty good. What happened to Anthony’s twizzle L2? I do think Madi and Evan’s RD is great and I love their packaging on that. There are very few RDs that I like this season. I just can’t really get behind FBS for some reason. Piper and Paul look so 80s but that’s the only thing I remember about them so far. Lily and Nathan’s I grew to enjoy! Olivia looks more 90s than 80s in my opinion but she does slay the look. FDs are a different discussion!
aww i love it too - i was trying to figure out the L2 - they did the 4x4 rotations, they're on an inside edge for the first entry and an outside edge for the 2nd, but his edge on the 2nd set isn't clear like hers - it's wobbly - that's probably the issue. but i'm not sure why that's 2 levels-- i think they did the 4 features required for level 4 - elbows shoulder height or higher in both sets, coupe in the 1st set, and they did the 3rd set of twizzles -- anybody who knows why he lost 2 levels, can you tell me?
Madi always has clever costume ideas - i can't remember Evan's costume at all, but the yellow of that Freddie Mercury jacket really pops as her dress
Lily and Nathan tomorrow! the fabric in Olivia's bodysuit looks better than 80s spandex for sure- she looks amazing

Okay, I may only have time to drag the ice dancers' fashion missteps this weekend, we'll see, but if you haven't watched yet, it's all spoilers all the way down from here, so read on at your own risk lol.
Molly and Dmitre surprisingly have a lot of rights this season. Their programs suit them well, her romper is fabulous and fits her perfectly, and his simple outfit is what I was talking about with Evan - you don't need to overthinks this, it's enough. A really good outing for them, they're so cute, it's just that only the last 1/3 of their RD woke the audience up. The earrings and the cross AND the pink scrunchie are a bit much, though.
Emilea is a spectacular dancer and truly the Lia of ice dance, and she was the stronger partner here. The costumes, though - the bodice of hers was shoddily done, and his top looked like a Confederate flag coloring page. I hate all MJ programs except LaLa's and this one's no exception. This girl seems to be immune to Igor's coaching so far, so we'll see, she might actually survive.
I have a huge soft sport for Alicia and Paul, and not just because they're smoking hot. They have some of the rawest talent in the entire field, but unfortunately it's coupled with some major limitations. I know they've lost a lot of training time throughout their partnership, but their levels on step sequences aren't improving. What Paul gained in speed and power in Montreal he lost in the quality of his turns. The program has a lot of the pitfalls of a first-time choreographer, there's a lot of random pointing at the sky and just basic movement. A bit of a muted performance from them, but at least their butts didn't touch the ice, which in itself is a victory for them. I get what Tracy was saying when they debuted at the senior level about their lack of variety of movement. The costumes were unmemorable but fine and I liked her hair. He needs to figure out his facial hair, it unsettles me. MF's coat is atrocious.
W/L with the best program of the event and by far one of the best of the season. They understood the assignment. Their entire looks are a vibe, the costumes are amazing and I love her grey hair tips. We've seen them far stronger this season, a bit of a dodgy outing for them here. They do a bit of a complicated and confusing entry for what the lift ends up being. They and Romain with the aubergine coat take the best dressed title here, shame about the score.
This German team is consistently one of the worst dressed, which is why I can't hold it against them - they must not have other options. Solid attack as always but the music overpowers them while still somehow falling flat. She isn't pushing at all when they're skating in hold. I love their rotational lift but they've been doing it for years.
Pate/Bye might just be the most quintessential Igor team there ever was. While she was performing her little heart out, they were probably the most flat-footed team here. Their skating is so small and devoid of power. I liked the musicality of their final two elements, they were indeed placed exactly on the music. Her costume was decently made but the details get lost from a distance, and his was truly just a zip-up tracksuit top. I don't understand what the hair has to do with the theme, but it looks like neither do they.
The Brown babies looked truly effortless and in a just world they would've won this event. Just completely smooth sailing from them, incredibly consistent, flying across the ice but always in control, defined free legs and decent extension, I just literally have no notes aside from the non-costumes. Flawless unison and togetherness, just riding those edges like they stole them, and at a back-to-back GP too! The USFSA better put all their eggs in this basket for Salt Lake because they've been gestating some literal rocks.
I usually like Alli and Saul, but to me, they've been stuck in a creative rut recently and they're giving us stuff we've already seen from them, including the outfits. The costumes are really well-made and clearly thought out, but the pattern on her jacket turns into a blur and the tassels on his are a liability. Her hair is too long and distracting. Just an overall sluggish performance from them and like the Germans, they couldn't keep up with the music. A couple of cool moments in the programs but no real free leg to speak of and they spent a lot of time on two feet. I still like them, I just expected more of them.
Okay, I'm gonna preface this by saying that I'm prejudiced against Piper and Paul because I can't stand their personalities, which is why I'm glad their program and costumes are horrendous, thereby justifying my dislike and further proving that I have impeccable taste. This program makes about as much sense as an out gay man skating with a registered Republican, but here we are. The mismatch of the outfits is so stark, it's as if she's a piñata and he's just the stick it's suspended from. I guess she couldn't decide if she wanted to be a peacock or a beetle, so she went with both. The leggings are too tight and an awkward length, so they shorten her. The boatneck blouse (and we know how I feel about those) with sleeves that just end randomly over a training bra is just a hot fucking mess, the stones make her boobs look uneven, and I'm pretty sure Scott wore his costume for the SD at the 2014 Nationals. But what was even worse than the clothes was the program and skating. Such stiff backs, such locked hips, such lack of extension, such small skating - take your pick! They're such awkward movers, I don't understand how they ended up in this discipline. When they threw themselves onto the ice, I wished they hadn't gotten up to continue this torture. And was her hair done by Hello Kells? Because it looked like one of her unintentionally messy buns. Their posture was awful and her position in the lift as ugly as the earrings that are a completely different green from the rest of her outfit. They'll get run over by the tricked-out garbage truck that is Bock again this year and they'll deserve it. There are literally only 2 good programs between the top 5 teams this year - the Canadanes' RD and the Italians' FD.
Speaking of teams that haven't given us anything new in years - Lilah and Lewis. Sigh. The music is a bop but overdone and the shameless rhythm violation that they refuse to correct and continue to not be penalized for feels like a slap in the face of all the other teams that made an honest effort. I'm pretty sure Steve Angello wasn't dropping tracks as a baby. In fact, I checked, and this mix came out in 2004, so what gives, ISU? What's the point of assigning a theme if you aren't going to enforce it, you frauds? F/G did this thing again where he literally lifts her and positions her on the correct edge because it's the only way she can hit one. And the grabbing of the ponytail on the "keep your head up" lyrics - an abomination. The costumes are hot but they can't make up for what's becoming a shameless display of privilege at this point. I think Lewis would've looked better either in a vest or just if the jacket wasn't so sharply cut off at the bottom. I just want to split them up and put Lewis with Olivia and her with Tim, could you imagine? Perfect matches. The sparkly pink mesh gloves are a vibe, though, I'll give them that, but I definitely wouldn't give them a score in the fucking 80s because not even their music is.
We'll see if I'll bother with the other disciplines today, it'll depend on whether they decided to werk or quiet-quit. Hope you had a lovely date!
"She's a piñata and he's just the stick it's suspended from" took me the fuck OUT Fashionista Nonny, oh my god that was so funny. I laughed so hard I started coughing.
A pleasure to read you amazing opinions as always, thank you for sharing!
