Fakemon Starters: Cattlecorn, Fugong, and Buddier

So…. I’m doing this now. And by “this,” I mean that I’m creating a whole new Fake-mon region. You know, for funzies. Also because I like to suffer, apparently. Anyways, here are the starters—finally. Took me about 2 months to come up with these. I’ll post their evolved forms whenever I finish those, but for now…. This is what I’m doing.

Cryogonal?

I…uh…wouldn’t recommend it. Cryogonals just don’t seem to be the friendliest creatures. I also don’t want anyone being frozen to death on my conscience.

While, at three and a half feet tall, cryogonals are pretty big, they are levitating pokémon, meaning that space isn’t likely to be an issue for them. Said space is gonna have to be a little uncomfortable for you, though. Cryogonals have a curious ability to transition between the states of matter without dying. According to the pokédex, when a cryogonals body temperature gets too high, “[they] turn into steam and [vanish]. When [their] temperature lowers, [they return] to ice” (Black). Wild cryogonals make their homes in frigid environments where their bodies are best able to retain a solid state, but even there they often vanish in the summertime (Shield). In order to keep your pet in a physical state, you will need to keep your home at a freezing temperature year-round. Sure, that might be nice on hot summer days, but could become dangerous in the winter depending on where you live. It’d also be pretty expensive. Not great.

There’s also the little detail that a cryogonal might kill you on sight. In the wild, cryogonals are hunters who use chains made up of ice crystals to ensnare their prey (White). These chains have been measured as being as cold as -148° F (Black2/White2) and are capable of flash-freezing targets, killing them (Violet). Would a cryogonal consider humans prey? Maybe not. But they don’t only use this technique on prey. The pokédex says that cryogonals will use this very strategy on “those it encounters”, leading to the disappearances of numerous victims (Sword). This pokémon doesn’t seem exceptionally friendly, if you catch my drift. Perhaps a domesticated cryogonal wouldn’t be so violent, but I certainly wouldn’t be the one to try.

Cryogonals are dangerous through means beyond their freezing chains. They can use a variety of ice-type moves to freeze enemies without making contact, while slashing at them with the sharp edges of their solid forms with moves like Night Slash. Large predators like cryogonal are, generally speaking, not the best pets for non-experts.

There’s also a whole ethics thing. Cryogonals may not be ghost-type pokémon, but they are considered by some to be the vengeful spirits of humans and pokémon who die on snowy mountains (Scarlet). Should this folklore be true, I don’t know how comfortable I’d be keeping one as a pet. At the very least, it speaks to how little we know about this species’ origin and behavior.

I couldn’t really recommend a cryogonal as a pet. They are a lethal hunter with a history of disappearing humans who come into contact with them and an arsenal of deadly abilities. They also might be the ghosts of people. There’s certainly better ice-type pokémon to seek out as pets.

Grusha x Gn!Reader

Synopsis - you’re cold and Grusha does his best to warm you up

Warnings - None! Pure tooth rotting fluff, Grusha is kinda sassy tho

You held your arms tightly around your body. Even with your fluffy jacket and scarf you still couldn’t help but shiver from the cold of the chilly mountaintops. You usually spend most of your time in the city where it mostly always felt like some sort of degree of summer. So this sudden new feeling of cold would take a lot to get used to.

And, before you could hide your soft sniffling, a curtain blue haired boy picked up on it.

“Are you getting too cold?”

He stopped and turned to you, crossing his arms and examining you. You merely chuckled.

“No, I’m fine, don’t worry. I can handle a little cold.”

“I wouldn’t call this a little cold, and to be honest, you really can’t, (y/n).”

You almost felt hurt by that statement, clutching you heart dramatically.

“Ahh, it hurts! How could you be so mean to me!”

Grusha scoffed at your sarcasm, lightly hitting you on the back of the head.

“Come on. Let’s go back to my house. It’s not too far from here.”

….

You let out a sign in relief and you finally shed off all your winter clothes, slipping into some comfy loungewear. Grusha did the same, walking off to the kitchen as you sat down on the couch.

“Even though it’s always so cold outside, I think it would be pretty cool to live here.”

“Yeah. You say that now until you have to deal with nights where the heating breaks during a snowstorm. Its awful, but you get used to it.”

Suddenly, you started to smell something strange. Almost…. Sweet?

“Wait… are you making….”

“Yeah…”

Your eyes twinkled as Grusha returned with two mugs of hot chocolate, sitting down next to you.

“I thought this would warm you up a little.”

“Awww, your so sweet!”

You gave him a bright smile before beginning to sip some of your warm drink. As you tried to think of the best way to eat all the marshmallows first, Grusha couldn’t help but smile softly back at you, but he looked away quickly as soon as he saw you look over at him.

…..

After you both finished your drinks and chatting for a while, you realized the sun had already set.

“Oh crap, I didn’t realize it was already so late. Uh, would it be okay with you if I spent the night?”

He chuckled, the light sound warming your heart.

“Of course, I… was kind of planning on it.”

Just as you both were about to get up, Grusha noticed the goose bumps that were still on your arms. You were still cold and you didn’t tell him? You gave him a puzzled look, but to your surprise, he cupped your cheek, feeling it to be chill to the touch.

“Just as I thought…”

You couldn’t help but blush a his thumb traced the side of your face lightly.

“You’re still so cold. Here, come with me.”

He took your hand in his and lead you to what seemed to be his room. It was decorated with all cool colors, a large bed with soft, wool blankets being it’s centerpiece. Your eyes managed to catch a glimpse of the countless Polaroid pictures hung to the wall, all of him during his glory days of snow bourding and with his Pokémon. He looked so happy in them.

He pushed the thick blankets out of the way and tucked you and him under, causing you to gasp. You felt you whole body break out into a blush as he pulled your body close to his. For someone who spends a lot of time in the snow, he was super warm. You couldn’t help but nuzzle against him, seeking out the warmth your body desperately craved.

“I hope this helps.”

You only hummed in response, to relaxed to find any words to say.

Grusha’s eyes looked away slightly, his own cheeks beginning to warm up as he placed a nervous hand on the back of your head. Your eyes widened. He always found ways to catch you off your guard, even outside of Pokémon battles. You felt yoruself slowly drift off to sleep, glad to be so close to someone you care so much about, someone who cares about you just as much as you care about them. (Maybe even more)

Jerbolt

So I figured I might as well make a sort of electric mascot type Pokémon for the Xinlao region. This guy is super fast, and it moves as such high speeds that it actually generates electricity. Jervolt lean forward while they run, and because of their speed they have trouble controlling where they’re going. In order to protect themselves from getting hurt if they crash, Jervolt have a bone-like face mask which also helps protect them somewhat from flying bits of sand and debris kicked up while they run. This odd faceplate and their incredible speed have earned them the nickname “speed-demons.”

"Remember, this doesn't get back to anyone. Not even Oz."

"I know," Raven sighed, "and even if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't want to talk to him anyways."

"Who do you want to talk to?" Summer tossed a Poké-Ball, allowing Sundered to stretch his heavy, chipped blade arms. Summer pointed to a tree and the axe-blade Pokémon reduced it to firewood.

"Besides you?" Raven asked, hand on her hip. "Just my Pokémon."

"But not your own daughter?" At this, Raven tensed, looking away with a look of guilt on her face. "I would say it's none of my business, but when she calls me Mom instead of you, I can't help but feel guilty. The least you can do to make up for that is to take this firewood to them."

"Firewood?" Raven quirked her brow. "It's summer."

"I'm Summer." The leader said, bringing her Kleavor back into his ball. "And it's August. It'll be winter in a few months, and I don't want my family to freeze."

"Geez, you act like this is going to be your last mission ever."

Summer was quiet at that. She was never without a response of some kind, and silence was always the most telling option. Raven suddenly felt a cold wind run up her spine, but Summer was already walking before any questions could be asked.

"I'll be back." She said. "Take care of yourself, Raven."

Before anymore could be said, Summer was already gone and away from her teammate, far out of reach of the bandit leader. Looking to the severed logs, Raven cut open a portal to her old home, where... where Tai and Yang were sleeping. It was a lot of logs, but she had plenty of help to carry them. She loosed every Poké-Ball on her person.

"Let's go, Team."

Summer commanded her team as they marched to the rendezvous point. Closest to her was Sundered, her faithful Kleavor she'd had since she first began her training. Ahead and burrowing underground was Hailey, her Excadrill, and behind her, acting as her second bodyguard was Gnotty, her Grimmsnarl. High above, Echo, her Noivern, patrolled from the air for any Grimm. Shifting from tree to tree was Lucky Star, her Luxray, who only moved when it was safe to do so.

The only member not out was her ace in the hole. No point in letting Salem know what she had planning. Still, she kept her hand poised on her Poké-Ball and prayed to whatever deity remained in Remnant that she'd never have to use them.

'I'll be home soon, girls... I promise'

jack took a short break from music to spend some time with you. although he enjoyed making music and its lifestyle, he realizes that your advice was true: his mental health comes first.

one of jack’s favorite pastimes when he had a day off is hanging out outside at the backyard with you.

you were sitting on the patio, and observed jack, who was walking with his phone on his hand. you started to wonder, “what is he doing?”

you got out of the chair and followed behind jack. since you were shorter than jack, you had a bit of trouble looking at screen. you made small jumps, but that got jack to walk further.

you continued following jack, and you stood by his side. his expression was that of excitement, and he started cheering.

“yes!” jack cheered, scrunching his nose, which you found it cute. “i caught alakazam!”

jack showed you his phone screen - pokémon go.

you started laughing at him although you secretly admired his geeky hobbies. “pokémon go? i haven’t heard that game since 2016.”

jack smacked his lips. “come on, don’t lie to me y/n,” jack smirked, “you know how much i love pokémon, this app included.”

you glared at him, “the last time i saw you playing that app was in winter of 2016”

jack rolled his eyes at you, admitting that you were right, “shit, you’re right.”

all of a sudden, you were taken back to the summer of 2016, when jack started playing the game.

SUMMER ‘16

you and jack were seven months into the relationship, and things were on a good note. you two graduated back in june, and by then, it was already summer.

you remembered how you spent your august of that year with jack. the long evenings were spent outside, where you and jack would take walks to the city. after taking you out to dinner, he would pull out his phone and open the game.

“replacing movie nights with pokémon go now?”

jack smiled, “yep.”

you were aware of how popular the game was becoming, and it showed a nerdy side of jack that you’ve never seen prior. you were familiar with his dorky personality, but never the geek. you know, the one that enjoys playing nintendo games and watches game of thrones? yeah, he was actually one of them.

you two walked in the sidewalk of the city, seeing all the restaurants and shops that louisville had to offer. nearby, there was a park, and jack headed there as you followed him.

“apparently the pokémon is somewhere over here.” jack said to you as he was walking.

around this point, you and him were near a fountain. instead of looking at his phone for the pokémon, you tilt your head up, looking at the sparkling water of the fountain.

“be careful not to trip towards the fountain, jack.”

“i won’t,” jack assured, “i see lapras!”

he stood in front of the fountain and using his finger, jack swiped his phone to catch lapras. immediately after, he had a huge smile, celebrating himself. you smiled back at him, admiring at his interest of pokémon.

PRESENT DAY

you brought the 2016 nostalgia back to jack. “this brought me back to good memories when we went to the city to catch some pokémon.”

jack exhaled, “those were some good days.”

“what do you think of doing pokémon nights again?”

jack didn’t know if you were joking or not. he knew you were more of a mario girl. “and what happened to the y/n that only played mario kart?”

“mario kart can wait.”

Heya professor!

I have a question regarding my Torterra, Ygdras. I'm starting college next semester and wil be staying in a Pokémon-allowed dorm, but the scamp evolved a bit unplanned...

Considering his size now (I'm 6ft and his head is at my chest-height), and my 3rd story room its safe to say he can't sleep with me like we were used too. My room overlooks a patch of forest on the grounds however, where he could potentially spend his nights. But winters can get a bit chilly here (north of Kalos).

How cold can Torterra handle? Are there any special steps I can take to keep my buddy healthy during the colder winter nights? Or would he be better of at home where he can sleep in his greenhouse?

Also, is it true Torterra keep growing?

Think of it this way: Torterra and its evolutions exist without human intervention just fine, and know how to survive winters without us fussing so much. Plants are built to survive, and have many ways to wait out the rough weather and bounce back in spring.

Issues arise if the Torterra in question is a variant that does not belong in the region you reside in. This is not alwasy the case but for instance a palm torterra will need wildly different care to a pine torterra in winter. I will assume yours is a bog-standard pure breed deciduous turt, seeing as youve not mentioned otherwise.

So winter time the leaves should drop, their energy levels will reduce, and if its quite cold, they do tend to bury their bodies in the dirt, and wait out the worst of the cold. This is essentially hibernation. A torterra will find an adequate patch of nutrient dense dirt and start to dig. You could help them with this if they show signs of wanting to do so, but otherwise they are more than capable with those stone toes of theirs. If they struggle to find good dirt, mulch a patch for them that THEY like, and turn it into the dirt. Leave it for two weeks, and then let them dig into that. Should be fine by then. They do not need watering nor feeding during hibernation.

If it's hanging out in a forest with other tree cover, it shouldnt have any issue, even if it snows. even frost is fine with this species, theyre very tolerant. If leaves start to shed, and they seem sluggish, id encourage rooting and burrying the body. They will do this until the ground frost stops.

You could send them home, theyd stay active in a greenhouse but still slow. If theyre in dormancy with you, they wont exactly be up and moving, not wandeiring around or intercting with you much. They sleep, pretty much permanently until the spring comes when its that cold.

Have a chat with them, they may want to do this, it does usually encourage more healthy growth come the new year, and rejuvinates their energy more than if they wander around all through the colder months. You'd see healthy regrowth and a much more vibrant mon, hell, maybe even flowers next summer. Without this rest, pokemon can become a little more run down, but adequate food and rest seems to counter this just fine.

Its a personal choice, some are hot blooded and want to keep moving and battling, others are happy to huddle for the winter and store energy for the coming months. Chat with them, see if you can make your mind up.
