Oh wait oh no... Astarion is in his 200s, Halsin is in his 300s... Astarion is destroyed by no one saving him sooner... Halsin is tormented by his own inaction and inability to have saved the Shadowlands sooner... exactly the sort of guy to eat the exact pain Astarion is radiating and become tormented that he was alive that whole time and somehow didn't magically know to fly to Baldur's Gate and save him in all that time...
And I'm here getting ready to smash the barbie dolls together with no remorse about the 1000 psychic damage Halsin might take on acquiring a mean little vampire boyfriend...
Oh well :)

It's a little bit fucked up that Bhaal had Durge kill every connection they made with their own hands - foster family, and paladin Drge (and presumably other classes with their own equivalents to) slaughtering their paladin order, and whatever those repeat incidents where they broke their oath was - and forced them to become his vessel.
And then, on the non-Chosen path, Durge is torn away from their family and forced to kill everybody they knew and possibly cared about with their own hands.
Sure, objectively the latter is different: the first case was them being moulded into the puppet of a god, and the second leaves them with a blank slate and the ability to be a better person and determine their own path in life. We think. Yes, I'm glaring at you, Withers.
But does it feel that way for them?
And there's as much blood on their hands as that on the corpses they've left on the ground. Orin and Gortash's crimes were also their crimes. Orin is no different to Durge, she had no choice in her life, she just never got the chance to ever be different. Durge shouldn't be different, Jergal just decided to step in and "make it all better" - and where was this divine intervention decades ago, before a "little Urge" hadn't yet torn apart a family in their own home, or before they came anywhere close to inflicting the Absolute on the world? Why does it come when it's too fucking late.
The main plot was their plan! They are the main villain of this story, they just wandered onto the wrong side of the conflict! By accident! In this little narrative of heroes and villains, bar a single accident, Durge would be left rotting on the floor next to their little sister and the tyrant they admired. It's not like this is necessarily a redemption arc either! Durge can still be an absolute monster! Also how the fuck do you even start to atone for all the horrors they committed? Does saving x amount of people really do anything to alleviate the harm they've already done? How much culpability do you assign to somebody who only has the pretence of autonomy?
There are other ways to interpret Durge and how they experience their redemption/"redemption" arc, of course, but if I were them I'd want to nap for a week after the final battle. Or a month. Maybe a few years...

Can I just bitch about Baldur's Gate 3 for a second-
JK, I'm not fucking asking.
So Ketheric Thorm...got an entire fucking act basically DEDICATED TO HIM.
The Shadow Cursed Lands suck because of him. Everything in that zone is fucked because of his nonsense. Every enemy you fight is either related to the shadows or the Absolute plot, which, as far as you know at that point, is tied directly back to him, and him alone.
And every fucking person you meet, rounds him out in some way.
Thisobald, Gerringothe, Malus, these are all unique looking and fun bosses. And they all round out Ketheric Thorm, showing us his fucked up family, and how terrible their impact has been.
Balthazar, Z'rell, even Aylin and Isobel- all thematically and narratively tied to our Shar/Myrkul worshipping bitch.
Even Halsin and Thaniel, Minthara and Shadowheart...all of them have ties to Ketheric.
And that's great and all. That's probably why I, unlike many others, actually enjoy Act 2 a fair bit.
But then. We get to the dreaded Act 3.
Which is a bloated, disorganized, incoherent mess.
But worse than that is... Gortash and Orin are our next big bads, yeah? And they have a kind of fun intro, that makes you think ooh, the next big bads...
And then.
And then what happens?
You can kill Gortash immediately, pretty much at the beginning of Act 3. No build up. You can just do that. Sure, you can do the Steel Watch or the Ironhand Throne quests...but tell me.
Could you just go up to Ketheric Thorm and kill him at Moonrise? The answer is no. Even if you skip a lot of content, you still have to go through a million other tasks before you can face him, AND the big boss battle at the end is entirely him and Myrkul. It's EARNED.
But Gortash? Well, fuck, he's fucking dead before you can even face the final big boss.
And Orin? Sure, you have to collect a bag of hands to get into the Temple...but so what? That's maybe two or three quests, but you can circumvent them. Besides, as soon as you kill her, she vanishes from the narrative and doesn't matter. She's a somewhat easy boss battle, but the actual build up isn't intricately tied into the narrative of Act 3...because there is no inherent narrative to Ac 3.
Act 2 was about an insane man's descent into villainy after losing the people he loved most.
It was tragic, but at least thematically consistent.
The fuck is happening in Act 3?
Gortash is committing war crimes because he's tyrannical, and Orin is murdering indiscriminately and just for funsies.
at least Ketheric's entire thing is about defying the gods, using them for his own gains, and similarly, being used by them.
But Orin? She has one sympathetic scene, and then she dies immediately after.
Gortash you can just kill and then he doesn't matter, or you can side with him, and then he just dies, and doesn't matter.
It's utterly baffling and mildly infuriating.
I know Act 3 was hit with the cut content rush and all, but I feel like you could've spent your time actually bothering to build them up the way you built up Ketheric. You could've given us political quests or world building quests with Gortash, especially given how manipulative he is, or given us more madness and shadows and underground labyrinths and spooky monsters with fucking Orin.
Instead of garbage quests like the Wavemother, Mystic Carrion, Stop the Presses, and Lady Jannath's Torture House, you could've given Karlach a quest related to fixing her heart, which would've tied into Gortash's plots, or given Gale more to do than simply go to Sorcerous Sundries, or tied Cazador to some kind of patriars plot, or had Wyll's father do more than be kidnapped and then later saved.
You could've given Halsin literally any fucking quest, instead of bringing in Jaheira or Minsc. But most importantly.
I just don't get it. Gortash runs Baldur's Gate. You could've easily tied him to a lot more quests, and made him far more threatening or hard to take down. You could've also made Orin feel like an actual threat, and not just a mild nuisance.
It's just kind of...it irks me.
Not just as a Gortash stan, but as a writer, because it's so odd, to have 3 perfectly decent villains...and only flesh out one.
The other two might as well be optional mini bosses.

Tav’s had enough of the abundance of planning Enver has committed himself to. She decides to take matters into her own hands to draw his attention to something more… entertaining.
AO3 Link Here
Just a little something to hold myself over until I finish the final chapter of The Night Shift 🙈
Tav watched from a stained glass window as the sun started to set below the city’s skyline. The colorful panes reflected a few rays of the day's last light onto the floor below, hues of red and yellow sparkled against the wooden boards. It was another late night with Lord Gortash, his office had become like a second home by now, much warmer than the temple. Gortash remained at his desk most of the day, enjoying her silent company. He occasionally asked for her thoughts during his meticulous planning, answered in usually a couple of short words before she returned to her voided stare across the city. Only until the sun disappeared beyond the horizon did he finally leave his desk to give her proper attention. The pair had reached the final hour of their invasion, most days spent fine tuning their strategy, some less productive night spent in bed together. Tav knew her sister was becoming more volatile by the day, it would be foolish to assume she wasn’t plotting to usurp her position as the Chosen of Bhaal. However cowardly it was to hole herself up within Lord Gortash’s office, she didn’t mind. A fight would be imminent, necessary in fact, in order to secure her birthright. For now she waits to anticipate Orin’s next move, keeping a cautious eye on her movements within The Gate.
It had become a bit of a bore though, wordlessly sitting by his window each day as he scribbled on parchment behind her. Jumping down from her perch, Tav made her way behind the lordling in his chair. She snaked her arms around Enver’s neck, laying her head against his as she looked over the maps scattered across his desk.
“Let’s take a break, shall we?” She said in a seductively low voice next to his ear. Gortash frowned and continued with his work, “You’ve hardly contributed today.” He scoffed.
“There’s nothing left to do! We’ve accounted for every possible deviation from the strategy, you’ll start to go mad spending another night staring over these maps.” She said with a whine. Gortash brought his fingers to the bridge of his nose, pinching the bridge in frustration.
“Another hour. Then you’ll have my attention.” He said shortly, laying a hand on her arm before returning his gaze to the desk. A worthless compromise, Tav was sure her own mind would rot if she had to wait for another hour. It was common for Gortash to be the last to quit for the day, working until his hands grew numb from gripping his quill, ink pots cluttering his space. If it was truly so difficult to tear him away from his desk, perhaps she should do it herself.
Circling his desk, Tav dipped down below the table top and sat in between his knees. Enver paid her no mind as she ran her hands along his thighs, her clawed nails sending shivers down the lordling’s spine. Only until she began fumbling to unclasp his belt did he cock an eyebrow at her, his gaze unreturned as she focused on freeing him from his trousers. Tav looked up to watch for his reaction as she reached into his pants through his underwear, massaging at his growing cock with a gentle hand. Gortash let out a short breath as she worked her hand along his shaft, bringing it up to press a soft thumb against his tip. She felt him hardened in her hand as she stroked his shaft and teased his head with her fingertips. Even as his heart began to race at the slow, languid movements, Gortash clenched his jaw and let out a short curse before returning to his work. His attempt to ignore her only spurred her on as she freed him from his trousers, the considerable length springing out and slapping against his stomach. With a hum of amusement, Tav brought her mouth around the head, swirling her tongue over beads of pre cum before swallowing him entirely. She relished in his taste, letting out another satisfied hum as she bobbed up and down his length. Enver let out a deep groan as he was engulfed in the wet heat of her throat. His hand moved to a tight grip on the chair’s arm, his nails making shallow grooves into the wood in an effort to hold himself back, hiding his desperation. Tav picked up her pace, pumping her fist along what she couldn’t fit in her mouth.
“Couldn’t wait another hour?” Gortash gritted through his teeth as he raked a hand through her hair, gripping onto the base of her curved horn. Tav gave a gentle shake of her head to indicate, no, she absolutely couldn’t wait. Enver let out a chuckle at her impatience, succeeded by a sharp inhale as her teeth grazed against his skin. The mix of pleasure and pain sent a roaring wave of arousal through his body, his mind screamed for more of her mouth, her touch, her taste. Tav could hear his frustration through the reserved groans he let out, the room filling with lewd sounds as she sloppily fucked him with her fist. Enver glanced down underneath the desk and she returned his gaze through half lidded eyes as she devoured him, the dizzying sensation causing Enver to thrust his hips against her mouth. Tav started to choke as she felt the tip press against the back of her throat, looking up at Enver in a plea for him to be gentle. Instead she was met with a devilish smirk as his eyes darkened at the scene in front of him, clouded by a thick aura of desire.
“Gods, your mouth feels divine.” He let out breathlessly, looking down at her with a sinful expression. Enver took advantage of her willing submission, wrapping his hands around the dark horns on her head, pushing her to take him further, deeper into her mouth. Gortash let out a guttural moan as he slammed her mouth down onto his cock. Using her horns for leverage, his hands moved in a rhythmic motion to drive himself deeper with every pump. Enver’s show of dominance only spurred Tav on as she moaned around his length, the vibrations sending shivers up his spine. She surrendered to his bruising pace and hollowed out her cheeks as she sucked and swallowed his length, running her tongue along the ridges of his soft skin.
“That’s it. You take me so well, my dear.”
Tav whimpered as he stuffed her mouth with his thick cock, feeling her own heat shudder for attention at his soft praise. Enver’s composure started to slip as he watched her hand disappear between her thighs, her moans around his cock growing louder as she worked her delicate fingers around her clit. An intense pressure began to rise in the pools of Enver’s stomach, threatening to spill over if Tav continued her feverish pace.
She couldn’t resist the urge to make him finish in her mouth, to suck and stroke him dry until he’s nothing but a mumbling fool under her touch. She’d give anything to watch him completely unravel. Once, twice, however many times he’d allow. The thought of it drove her wild, her fingers began to move faster against her clit as she drew herself closer to her peak. Tav started to gently suck on the tip, knowing this would push him over the edge. She stroked what she didn’t swallow, the combination having a dizzying effect on the Archduke. Enver shakily grabbed at a clump of her hair as a string of curses tumbled out of his mouth in a husky growl.
“Good girl.” He struggled to spit out, “Don’t stop.”
She didn’t intend to. His eyes were now fixed onto her, her soft hand gliding along his cock, her swollen lips tenderly working the pleasure out of him. Tav’s fingers started to move sloppily against her folds, the sensations becoming too much for her to suppress any longer. He could hear the wet sounds of his wicked little assassin pleasuring herself, how her legs began to tremble underneath her fingers, her thighs tensing at the building pressure. He was intoxicated by the sound of her gagging against his girth, her unrelenting strokes pulling him closer, closer to the edge. As Tav reached her climax. she let out a guttural moan and Enver pushed his cock further into her mouth to muffle the sounds. Tav choked around his length as she rode out her orgasm, intense waves of pleasure rolling through her as the obscene sounds around her turned to white noise. As he felt his own release approaching Enver couldn’t help but let out a primal groan, his hips involuntarily bucking against her throat at a shattered speed. His moans grew louder and more vulgar with every stroke, shouting her name as he filled her throat with his warm seed. The excess spilled out of the sides of her mouth before she pulled off with a sickening pop, happily swallowing everything he emptied inside of her.
“You wicked thing.” He said to her in a low voice, collecting the remaining spit lining her mouth with his thumb, bringing his fingers to his mouth to taste them both. Tav gave him a weak smile and mustered up what little strength she had to rise to her feet before immediately dropping into Enver’s lap. The Archduke let out a soft chuckle and brushed her hair out of her face, wrapping his hands around her waist to hold her tighter against him. Tav nestled her face into his neck, leaving soft kisses along the flesh, nipping at his skin with her teeth. Enver didn’t mind and he scooted the chair closer towards the desk, picking up the dried quill and dipping it back into the ink pot. It didn’t need to be said that this was only a preamble for the night to come, but for now Tav listened as he scribbled on parchment and flipped through the pages of a dusty journal.

You don't have to answer if you don't want or are not quite sure, but I was curious, what is your gender identity? Asking because your art tends to feature trans guys (I think?) and I've only seen transmascs draw transmascs but I think I remember seeing someone call you a woman. And maybe they were misgendering you or just repeating back what you've said; either way it doesn't matter, it's just something I've been thinking about. Anyways love your art so much! Love the bit about Orin brutally giving V a mastectomy lmao she said "don't worry king I got you"
eeeehhhhh my gender identity is a big shrug right now. I have never cared what people online perceive me as. I consider myself pretty comfortable with being a woman, i have no desire or intention to transition, and I'm also in a committed lesbian relationship. at the same time I don't feel all that connected to ""femininity"" and I think a lot of gender norms are stupid nonsense so idk. make of that what you will. I'm not really sure if I would consider myself non binary or genderfluid or anything along those lines, I am just me.
and I don't think it has anything to do with what I'm drawing either, I just happen to have a transmasc oc I'm really into at the moment.
glad you like V 💕 trans durge goes so hard

Minthara and Halsins inclusions are not comparable. Minthara has direct ties to Orin with Orin being obsessed with her and an abuse story there (she was mind controlled into having a relationship with Orin for those that have not recruited Minth). She is directly tied to the whole cult in general and has an extremely motivated goal of toppling it. She wants to use the nether brain for her own gain and to take over the world with you. For people new to DND she properly introduces them to what drow are and reveals fun, interesting, eerie etc drow lore. She’s a companion that isn’t another damn human or elf. Evil and nasty though she is she has a lot going on. She was a desperately welcome companion to me, to flesh out the evil route and for racial diversity. You know in the dozens of fantasy races game. Halsin is meanwhile a mess. He’s supposed to be a wise mentor people look up to, yet abandons his people to adventure with you because he hates responsibility. Which, okay, this could have been interesting had it been properly committed to. But then he leaves you anyway at the end even if you forged a relationship with him! He’s supposed to be experienced in bed but loses control and shifts into a bear at the first sight of a naked body. Just, what? It’s all so incongruent. He has no reason to be there in act 3 despite his inclusion being so late. I don’t hate Halsin but surely his story would have been way more meaningful if he was a short fling. He joins for a bit, guides you through his quest, will have a fling with you if you want but will confess it can’t be something serious and long term because he has other duties and he can’t escape them, though this short bit of freedom and release he had with you meant the world. It would be such a bittersweet romance and representative of a different kind of relationship, not all can last forever and a lot are painful. Temporary Halsin joining would have been more meaningful and made more sense. Then we could have perhaps had Helia instead - the scrapped werewolf bard companion. Perhaps she could have been another evil locked character to actually flesh that route out as it desperately needs it, and since you lose so many characters for that route, she’d replace the losses more and give more replayability and just more motivation for people to play evil in general! And again, she’d be better racial diversity, as she is a halfling and we don’t have a single short race character. The werewolf aspect could also lead to really interesting stuff between her and SH. The goblins should have also become NPCs that follow you along like the tiefs, they’re borderline treated as worthless animals by the story and characters despite being PEOPLE. If SH, Astarion, Lae, Minthara etc are all worth exploring even if messed up then you cannot tell me not a single goblin in that camp isn’t the same.
Tl;dr the evil route is severely lacking and Halsins a damn mess.

for the dark urge asks: 5 + 15 + 1 (because i really need to know why kyvir is a bard of all things for a durge)
x @zoneofsmites
(Durge asks!)
Yeah bard sure is a choice for Durge huh.
1. What circumstances led to your Dark Urge becoming their Class/Subclass? I've talked about this a little before, but when Kyvir was eleven or so and mostly living on the streets he got caught murdering someone by a woman who happened to be a not-particularly-scrupulous bard (I'm tentatively saying a tiefling woman named Euphoria, but I'm not entirely settled on that just yet). While the murder child was... a lot, she decided that his skill at sneaking around would come in handy, so she made him a deal: she wouldn't turn him in to the Fist if he stole some notes from a rival bard for her. When that went well, she offered to teach him the bardic arts in exchange for his continued services as a spy and saboteur, an arrangement that worked quite well until she ran out of things to teach him that he couldn't pick up just as well or better on his own and Bhaal got sick of his kid having affection for someone else and made him kill her. (Don't feel too bad for her, she didn't even let Kyvir live with her. This did make it easier for him to indulge his Urges without her noticing, but still!) She also taught him the basics of College of Swords stuff, but he picked up most of it on his own after her death. Also, since I'm seriously considering multiclassing him into assassin rogue next run: that came entirely by instinct, and is why he was a reasonably successful murderer before even hitting his teens.
5. What opinion does your Dark Urge have about the Gods? Keeping in mind I'm not super knowledgeable about Forgotten Realms cosmology (and setting aside Bhaal, since that's a separate question on the list)... The good gods are a bunch of self-righteous bastards and the evil gods mostly just get in the way. Kyvir's not fond of any of them. Well, except for Bane; he has a genuine, deep-seated respect for Bane. Turns out that when you've got divine daddy issues and a bone-deep terror of being out of control, the god of tyranny starts seeming like a pretty compelling option for worship! What no it's not even a little bit a sex thing shut up.
15. What is your Dark Urge’s greatest fear? Losing control of himself permanently. The way Bhaal can take control of him and force him to kill even people he very firmly doesn't want to scares him at the best of times (and plays a part in why he can't fully commit to his relationships with Gortash pre-amnesia and Astarion post-amnesia until after he's tried to kill them and they've managed to stop him), but the thought that one day his father might decide not to give control back? The idea that one day Bhaal might yank his leash tight and leave him nothing but a mindless, obedient puppet moving only at the whim of his god forever? That terrifies him. Orin's fate keeps him up at night longer than his own death does.

REUJI UTSUHO! <3
General opinion/How much I care about them: THE BEST! THE BEST! THE BEST! THE BEST! THE BEST! consistently tops my tohosorts. perfect design. perfect character. love her to pieces.
A ship I love: okuu/orin is the best shit. them gals love each other. like, who do you cling to when even hell abandons you? you cling to a radioactive raven with the power of the sun
A non-romantic relationship that I love: i'm not sure if i would qualify her relationship with satori as "romantic". i could go either way depending on mood, but when the mood goes non-romantic then i'm glad she's got a *checks notes* irresponsible pet owner like that
The NOTP: probably koishi because koishi is in my i-don't-care-about-her field (sorry koishi)
My biggest headcanon about them: i don't like "idiot okuu" v much. part of it is just me not liking the concept of intelligence as society has structured it, but part of it is that this gal has some highly technical specialty interests and she's great at them
An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: (if I have none in my WIPs I'll make one up on the spot!) if i hadn't committed to the "everyone is fucking dead because it's 20000 years in the future" bit with the treatise (which is a bit that already features some complicating factors, as you well know) then man. she'd fuckin love it in qud. so would orin. just imagine her kickin back in a lounge chair on a salt dune watching the path of a salt kraken and all the random corpses churned up in its wake... okuu soaring the thermals above... now that's livin'!
Something that makes me think of them: (a song, a character in another fandom, an animal, anything) THE BIRDS ARE TOO LOUD

I love BG3, I really do. And I loved each and every one of my Durge playthroughs, but the more I play the more I notice places that are... seriously lacking.
The game seems to give you the option to play as a character that while disgusted and scared of their murderous impulses, can't really resist them, be it out of that fear or because of the sheer strength of the Urge being too much for them to bear. There are multiple dialogue choices where both of these are acknowledged, companions hear you admit those things, but the moment you commit A Bad everyone who's good aligned enough damn near rips you to shreds over it.
I've gotten the option to plead my case exactly ONCE when that happened, with Karlach, but that's it. The only time you can talk to everyone about being out of control is after Alfira, but they don't seem to remember it or take it into consideration at all. It's especially jarring with Wyll because like... you're being as much forced and threatened to do these horrible things as Karlach was to serve Zariel, but he sees absolutely no parallels there. He gets SO upset after you kill Isobel and during that conversation I was waiting to be able to tell him that Sceleritas threatened to force Durge's hand against one of them again instead, but no. He just called Durge a monster and conversation ended. What???
That's still not the worst of it though, the worst example of the issue is after you become Bhaal's Chosen. After killing Orin you can ask Dad what he's going to do if you refuse him, to which he literally answers "eviscerate you" and you have two ways to respond (other than still choosing to refuse him) that are basically -- "Seems like I have no choice then" and "Yes father, I will slaughter countless innocents in your name". EVERYONE hears it, but if you say yes they still act like you've done it because you simply wanted to, no matter your words. I thought that choce would decide people's reactions to the whole ordeal, but NOPE. It's exactly the same either way save for Jaheira's confrontation where she tells Durge they should've made the choice to die with a smile on their face (bruh). And I don't know if it's an Astarion thing or a romance interest thing, but as always he's the only one who acknowledged it was "servitude or death" and seemed understanding of Durge's choice (even tho I'm sure he personally would've picked different, he's said as much)
It just sucks. I geniuely wish they did not give you a chance to do a more gray-ish approach to playing that orgin if they were not going to commit to it. You want it to be a good vs bad story with no nuance? Then don't give me the option to have my character continuously talk how much they hate doing the things they're being forced to do. Playing a unwilling Durge that is not strong enough to overcome these challenges is so damn depressing. Not only everyone hates you and you have no support network that would even make it worth trying to do the right thing, but the only choice you get to amend all that is to fucking KILL YOURSELF. Yeah Withers brings you back, but your character does not know that's going to happen when they tell daddy to go fuck himself. What in a good!Durge playthrough is a heroic moment of defiance, here turns into a person so alienated and helpless they would rather die than have to endure it any longer. I love a good dose of angst, don't get me wrong, but I also love to be able to CHOOSE and have my choices matter instead of everything I pick carrying no real value in the end.
I still haven't finished yet so maybe the "good" ending you can get after this will mend it a bit, but I doubt it. I hate act 3 so much, maybe that's why in all my 300h of playtime I have finished the game exactly once lmao

Get to know my OCs: NPC relationships
Tumblr media
Sentry Ojeda:
- was in love with Gortash as the leader of the Bhaalist cult.
-Before he found out he was a Bhaalspawn and led the cult, he spent some of his childhood at the temple of Ilmater and considered Father Lorgan a father figure.
-Had close friendships with a lot of the workers at Sharess' Caress because they accepted him without judgement. Considered Ffion a mother figure.
-Gets along well with Dammon and enjoys talking shop with him.
-Considers Rolan one of his best friends, but mainly because it really annoys Rolan that he does.
-Understands Barcus Root and becomes a good friend of his when he realizes that the way he used to be Gortash's boyfriend now feels an awful lot like what Barcus has going on with Wulbern now that Sentry is working towards redemption.
-Raphael gives him bad vibes, he only realizes why when he remembers Gortash.
-Dame Aylin is his very best friend and coolest older sister figure ever. He basically idolizes her.
-Bothering Ketheric was his hobby when he was Bhaal's chosen.
-Looks up to Zevlor as who he wishes his father was.
Tumblr media
Jaina Thalassia:
-Doesn't like Ulder Ravengard and considers him a bad parent, tolerates him for Wyll's sake, rescued him for Wyll's sake when she realized how sad he was that his freedom cost his father's life after she convinced him he deserved freedom.
-Just a complete catty bitch to Mizora. This is where we see the most influence from Yennefer of Vengerberg in her characterization. She is dismissive of the cambion and things she's vain and overconfident.
-Hates Raphael and is highly wary of his behavior towards Mol. As a teacher she knows all the Red flags she's seeing.
-Close friends with Bex, Alfira, Lakrissa, and Lia. She's missed having Tiefling friends since she started working in Baldur's Gate.
-Although she's probably younger than Rolan by a couple of years, she feels protective of him because she's met Lorroakan and knows he's a prick and a terrible teacher.
-Devoted to the tiefling children. In the absence of her own students, she feels responsible for these kids.
-Strikes up a friendship with Aylin and Isobel. She usually doesn't trust female Elves or humans(Aasimar are close enough in her mind) because of her coworkers but she's pleasantly surprised to find one she gets along with outside her party.
-Awkward around Zevlor because she's realized he's the tiefling paladin her dad had a fling with when he was younger and traveling as an adventuring paladin
Tumblr media
Ghustil Kroger:
-Admires Kithrak Voss and will generally trust what he has to say.
-it's on sight with Auntie Ethel. Some of his companions may find her amusing, but that's medical malpractice she's committing and he takes that seriously.
-Kind of clings a bit to Isobel for guidance and information about Selune when Vlaakith abandons him.
-Still hasn't forgiven Nettie for trying to poison him, which is also medical malpractice.
-Really miffed at how Inspector Valyria doesn't seem to want to do her job.
-Finds Rolan incredibly attractive but unlike how easily he was able to approach Wyll, he can't really do the same with Rolan, so he's an arrogant dick right back to him.

Forgiveness
The Dark Urge
Word Count: 639
Disclaimer: characters belong to Larian studios and Baldur’s Gate 3
The Dark Urge ponders forgiveness whilst slaying their business partner’s competition. Durgetash implied a tiny bit, but not much. This takes place pre-tadpole and early on in their partnership.
Forgiveness. Very rarely have I had the need to extend this to others, yet I find myself contemplating the theme more and more in recent days. As the leader of the temple, I must balance forgiveness with punishment, and carry out father’s orders as well as cull too much knowledge of the existence of us outside of our circle. Small whispers and rumblings have always existed, but they must never be more than that. We are too small at this time and with the right force could be swept into the abyss again.
Sarevok. He has spent the last years lollygagging, spinning his daughters around for his own amusement, enjoying the lavish praise they give him. Helena is gone now, a trophy in Orin’s quarters, but Orin remains, her devotion to Sarevok despicable. For his part, his neediness to maintain some semblance of power further disgraces himself and by extension, father. His only redeeming quality is his willingness to defer to my judgment and respect my position.
Orin is a puerile nuisance, her open displays of mutilation lack foresight and will put us in jeopardy if she does not contain herself. I send her away as often as I can to commit acts in Bhaal’s name, and so far my sibling has not strayed from my direction, although she is vocal about it. She relishes in the maiming and the flesh, the romanticism of the aftermath, not in the act of killing— the murder itself. Still, I try to remember leniency and allow her to indulge within reason.
Sceleritas Fel, my devoted butler. He does not receive forgiveness, he does not deserve forgiveness. He exists only to serve and please me and by extension my father. He revives anew despite my killing him many times over. He sates my knife hand and my urges when I must exercise restraint for the greater purpose. He is, however, an annoying windbag and I often must slip away in order to conduct business. A quick few slashes and he is incapacitated for a time, which is infinitely helpful.
But what about myself? I am not sure I deserve the same leniency as I give Orin, the same grace I extend to Sarevok. I am born from Bhaal and Bhaal alone, yet I struggle. Father will show his displeasure if I resist the depraved urges he bestows on me, and sometimes I will no longer inhabit my own body, killing without any recollection of the event. Sometimes he will visit me in my sleep, torturing me in my dreams if I have not fulfilled his desire. I do not always relish in a kill, sometimes guilt will take me just as much as these compulsions. It has always been like this, this occasional pain where only pleasure should exist. I wish to put voice to this, to ask if it is the same for others. But to speak aloud would be a sin most condemning. I cannot falter, as without my father’s blessing, I would not exist. I must obey him, to the best of my ability.
I finish cutting down the three men, leaving them to drown in the shallows. Smugglers for the Knights of the Shield, these three in particular had a nasty habit of being too rough with the women they paid for. I watch them flail, a grin playing on my features. There is something, particularly satisfying, about watching someone drown. Especially in water that they could easily get out of, if they still had the ability to.
When they stop moving, I wipe their blood from my blade on my dark cloth pants, the waves of pleasure in witness their peril that I feel is akin to a devout experience and I know my father is pleased with my sacrifice tonight. Perhaps I didn’t need forgiveness after all.

divergences from the dark urge storyline :
she is bhaal's spawn –– bhaal specifically built her body out of his own, but also using that of the many descendents of jergal that he'd found, hoping to make her even more of a perfect vessel.
her formative years with the cult of bhaal were... essentially brainwashing. she felt taken in there, and gave into her urges because they made her feel powerful. inara can be very charismatic and rose through the ranks, becoming drunk on the power of steering the cult.
her relationship with orin may also be different because I think inara would have admired orin's methods more vocally.
but after she became leader of the cult (around 22 years old) a lot of it was her pretending too, not being sure of anything, even her values. rakiale, was the only reason she questioned a lot of her own opinions –– their voice of reason consistently kept her just a tiny bit rational.
she wanted to impress her father and enjoyed her status a goddess too much –– she didn't want to go through with the plan purely because she liked gortash's idea a lot more. she wanted to rule, basically, and how can you rule over anyone when they're all dead?
when she was betrayed by orin, I hc that orin had somehow found out that inara was struggling and not as committed to the cause or plan as everyone believed, and that was just another reason to betray her. she likely was told by the elder brain, who knew that inara was hoping to control it.
as for whether inara will eventually resist and become her own person, or become bhaal's chosen again.... I'm torn. I can't see her choosing to be bhaal's chosen because she has found she'd rather rule over death in her own way. she gives in to her urges yes, but does not want to be bhaal's chosen, because she wants to be her own person.

7, 8 and 15 for the Durge Past Life Questions!! :D
7. Did they have any connections or companions outside of the local underworld? If so, what were those connections like and if not, why?
You've read a bit about that already, but I will share the idea on tumblr, and expand on the idea a little bit.
As a teenager, somewhere like 16-18 years old, Ferael had a girlfriend. unrelated to any murdery/underworld stuff. She was a wizard apprentice. They probably met a few times when browsing books or smth - Ferael is a sorcerer, yeah, but a well read one lol. Hm. Given the timeline she was probably the last person to actually ever learn Ferael's original name One night, the gf bumps into them while they are committing a murder. Whoops. She's right fully terrified, she tries to run away, they manage to catch her. They try to reassure her that she is safe, calm her down, they'd never hurt her. Doesn't work. Not thinking straight, she threatens to tell everything to the Fists. Dreadful realisation. Ferael can't let her go. They can't trust her anymore. She knows too much, down to their now seldom used name. There is no compulsion from Bhaal. No threat, no push needed. Ferael makes the choice to end her life on their own. Haha. :> Additionally, Ferael grew up in an Outer City within a small Eilistraeean drow community. They probably never visited that place again. Unless that's where their family is buried. I've been toying with an idea of a relative or a friend of their adopted mother meeting with them on accident, while they visited their family's grave. 8. What was their relationship with Orin like? Did it change at some point?
jess are you asking me if there was bhaalcest of the orin variety in my verse? oh gods. you are absolutely asking me about the bhaalcest. well. i will get to it. As far as I know, there isn't a canon age for Orin, but I do hc her as younger than Ferael, just by a couple of years (Ferael is in their early 30s during the game). Ferael gladly took on an older sibling role after ending up at the temple. Kind of a reverse situation, Ferael was the baby of their adoptive family (until very soon before they killed all of them :DD) I am not yet sure as to when exactly Orin and Ferael's relationship soured... but well it definitely did. Ekhem. As to uhm. The Bhaalcest. Yeah. Sure did happen at least to an extent. Not settled how far it went lol. Ferael was disgusted by the idea of this sort of take on a sibling relationship. Orin did attempt to push those boundaries - efforts usually not reciprocated, would even end in violence. ("Get the fuck off me" *thunderwave*)
I've very recently been thinking about expanding on Orin and Ferael's relationship throughout the years, but I have yet to expand on said relationship more than what I wrote above. Very busy with school atm :') 15. Bhaal handcrafted Durge. Do they enjoy and worship their appearance, or did they have a rebellious phase, trying their best to change their Lord Father's grand design?
WELL... Ferael is trans so they definitely do change Daddy Bhaal's design somewhat lol. Trans Durges are kinda fascinating to me, tbh. Such a devoted, dedicated spawn, yet they choose to change their bodies by quite a lot hihi. I do wonder - to what extent would Bhaal have disapproved :D Beyond that - Ferael definitely did a lot of small things to make their body their own. Piercings, a tattoo (not some sort of an edgy one, btw), even daily make up or taking care of their hair. At some point, they would have dyed their hair white to look more like an actual drow lol

[22. What first impression does your Dark Urge give off to strangers?] There are a couple of levels to this, but pre-tadpole, Durge is coming off as intimidating, composed until he's not. Gortash can forget he's dealing with a cult leader Bhaalspawn for a time because Durge is initially on the quieter side, preferring to let his actions speak for him. He's standoffish and cold to 'outsiders' (99.99% of the population) because he has to be. You could almost believe that Durge is this regal, divine creature, key word being almost; once he starts doing his usual fucked up shit it's all over (i.e. eating people, consuming tadpoles out of boredom, drinking Ethel's tainted well water, hoarding bodies in his room, generally committing to cartoonish levels of gore and violence). Once people get closer to Durge, they realize a couple things. 1) Durge has a dry sense of humor that most people don't live long to hear. 2) He has no sense of how unhinged he's being ever because he's been enabled by Bhaal & the cult for so long that he's lost touch with reality. He's not as bad as Orin sure, but the man lives in the sewers. 3) He's actually sweet in his own terrible way. Post-tadpole, I think strangers would have similar impressions, though Durge would be forced to speak to randoms even more so as the de facto leader of their troupe, coming off slightly less untouchable than how he used to. Yes, Durge led his own cult and held his own alongside Ketheric and Gortash. Doesn't mean he wants to hear out every sob story, though as the acts progress he does soften up a bit more, especially around the tiefling children. Durge would probably bully/harrumph anyone needing help, but then do it anyway.

XXX
Pretty sure I've said this before but I'm just gonna repeat it since more people know him now so it's more embarrassing.
Orinous totally has a foot fetish.
I'm still learning what that actually entails since I don't have one. So I've had to google a lot of foot porn to understand it correctly.
But I'm committing to the bit. Orinous is all about dem toes.

8 years ago:
Orin receives the Atlantis Chronicles, learning of his relation to Ocean Master and beginning to sink into a deep depression.
Orin and his ally Dolphin are kidnapped by the terrorist Charybdis, who plunges his arm into a pool of piranhas, cutting his left hand off at the wrist. He replaces it with a harpoon.
Arthur returns to the Arctic, meeting again with Kako and his fully grown son, Koryak. Koryak chooses to travel with him and Dolphin on their travels.
Orin joins the newly reformed Justice League of America in response to a White Martian threat on Earth.
Orin and Garth reunite after time apart, and Garth takes the new title of Tempest.

Atlantis vanishes in the wake of the war against Imperiex, hurled into the Obsidian Age by Atlantean magic and enslaved by the sorceress Gamemnae. The Justice League and Orin succeed in returning Atlantis to its proper time.
A large portion of San Diego, California is sunken into the Pacific due to the machinations of Dr. Anton Geist. Orin annexes the city into Atlantis, taking San Diego native Lorena Marquez on as the new Aquagirl.
5 years ago: Atlantis is besieged by Lex Luthor’s Secret Society, and Aquaman leads the charge to defend it. Koryak dies during the battle.
4 years ago:
Arthur re-joins the Justice League.
Atlantis joins the United Nations, appointing Garth as their ambassador to the world.

Orin recruits a group of individuals into a team called the Others to search for lost Atlantean artifacts across the globe.
Half-Atlantean mage Kaldur’ahm comes to stand alongside Orin as the new Aqualad.
2 years ago: While Orin is on a mission with the Justice League, Orm seizes the throne of Atlantis for himself. Orin takes it back, and then decides to retire from superhero work to better rule his kingdom. Lorena Marquez becomes Aquawoman in his stead.
1 year ago: Arthur and Mera have their second child, a daughter named Mareena.
Present day: Orin and Mera begin to investigate the disappearance of the sea god Poseidon.
Commentary:
Aquaman is an interesting one, as for a long time he was a bit of a wildcard character, having many portrayals across various runs that differed wildly from one another, many of them a direct reaction to his depiction in Super Friends, which earned him a fair bit of public ridicule. What resulted was a regular cycle of Arthur being king of Atlantis and then being exiled, and he and Mera being together and then separated. This depiction aims to streamline that, with only one major period of exile from the throne, leading into the events of Peter David’s run, which are largely preserved here.
The lack of major Aquaman storylines in the twilight years of the post-Crisis DCU also allowed me to bring in several New 52 stories here, as well as introducing the idea from Young Justice of Arthur retiring from superhero work and passing his mantle on, again tying into the major theme of legacy that I’ve chosen to embrace. (Although, as Kaldur’ahm isn’t yet old enough in this timeline, that responsibility instead goes to Lorena Marquez.)
Arthur as a character is defined here by his responsibility, to his kingdom and to his family. He will defend them to the death and prioritize them before anything else, even if it causes him personal tragedy. Despite their past difficulties, he and Mera have reconciled and have a stable, loving relationship, and Arthur works hard to ensure that the disparate city-states that make up the loose nation of Atlantis remain at peace, even forsaking his duties with the Justice League to focus on his kingdom.
As far as physical appearance is concerned, the recent, Jason Momoa-inspired look DC’s been using as of late is absolutely perfect. It preserves the classic orange and green while giving him a little bit of an edge with the long hair and beard - a nice middle ground between the classic clean-cut Aquaman and the hook-handed Orin from David’s run. He’s a warrior king, he should look the part, and it’s almost a rule that every male superhero looks better with a beard.
Coming up next: Aquawoman (Lorena Marquez) and one that will sure to piss people off: Nightwing!
Got any questions? Asks are open!
