#Or canonical / heavily headcanoned trans characters
Note
will you prioritize canon characters over headcanons? i think it'd be cool to try and use as many canon trans characters as you find in the nominations so more people get to know them, but idk
I’m gonna try to use a good mix of canonically/heavily implied to be trans characters and headcanons while still using most of the most votes for characters

it is a good day to not know anything about smps
#aria talkz#yea i know not everyone in dsmp sucks. i still hate dsmp and smps and how it fucked the minecraft rp community forever with its structure#alas.#anyways i just see block people in trans character polls and im like... yea sure if the character and the creator of them r trans ig but#Are they really gunna win against frisk undertale anyways#Or the knight from hollowknight#Or canonical / heavily headcanoned trans characters#idk i dislike when theres clear character bias due to ppls followerbase like#to have a bunch of characters from a specific series shoved into a poll that theyre going to have bias for bc the blogger who made the poll#likes it a lot to the point where they themselves get weirdly upset when ppl dont vote for the mcyters#i dont know these ppl nor give a fuck!#and even if they do win its like that shit is Noooot deserved. they are not as much as a cultural icon as canon trans characters#Like yes they can make ppl figure out their identity. Thats cool! But u rlly have to factor in that shit#I am not voting for a random white mcyters OC insert over Birdo or Frisk or The Knight or anything. Sorry not sorry#ESPECIALLY IF THE CHARACTER AND CONTENT CREATOR *ARENT EVEN TRANS*...#like yes cis people can play trans characters. but it is very subjective if they can do it well. Or should. As opposed to like actual trans#people who can do it much better and need those roles more...#i also am p sure most of the options there are just widely regarded as fandom headcanons for oc self insert white mcyter no. 50#except the actual trans ccs in mcyt like ranboo or w/e. thats fine.#and yes i know theyre characters. but its so odd to have what is essentially a self insert with a few layers removed. theres obviously like#a level of personal-ness there. i know how it is!! i used to fucking rp a semi-self insert minecraft character it is HARD to NOT project!!#blablabla my experiences arent universal but idk itsj ust always struck me as odd.#it sucks bc the whole idea around minecraft rps is fun but minecraft rp is tainted for me eternally by smps and past friendgroups.#( both of which did not really account for my needs since i cant rlly play minecraft survival well bc of triggers but then like#only played minecraft and excluded me from a lot )#so w/e

3 and 7 for wendy if ur still doing the character ask thing!!
finally I get to talk about one of the girls
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
the misogyny in gf's writing always makes me extremely sad. this goes for most if not all of the female characters in the show but I think wendy suffers from it most heavily as the object of dipper's affection. she's cool, sure, but she isn't really allowed her own ambitions or weird stand-out traits the same way other characters are. wouldn't it have been way more interesting for dipper (and by extension the audience) to start seeing her more as her own person once his crush on her becomes old news? ...of course, that leads me into my other point, which is that it was incredibly lazy to continue the plot thread of ~dipper's crush on wendy~ after that arc had been neatly closed off. roadside attraction was a mistake and I would have gladly traded it for that scrapped episode about stan and wendy pulling off a heist.
I suppose the real problem here is that almost everything we know about wendy seems to be through dipper's interest in her, so there isn't a lot of room for her to be anything except Badass(tm). let her be weird! there's literally nothing weirder than being a teenage girl!!
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
It's so much more difficult to find things I like about fandom portrayals than things I dislike, but I am a fan of the almost universal understanding that wendy is a lesbian. I'm also glad trans headcanons are fairly popular for her, I think it makes her confiding in dipper about being taller than all her brothers very fun (and the common theme in gf of characters bonding over being considered 'freaks' always resonated with me in a trans interpretation way).

HI THAT WAS ME IM SORRY TUMBLR ATE UR ASK. PERIL IS TRANS I KNOW HER ALSO INTEGRAL TO HER CHARACTER AND IM THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES IT(THATS BASICALLY THE ASK)
HII NO NEED TO BE SORRY TUMBLRS SYSTEM IS ASS!! THANK YOU SM FOR RESENDING THE ASK A <33 OKAY PERIL POST DO-OVER!!
Tumblr media
SPECTRUM USED FROM THIS POST!!!!!!!!!
OKAY SO I JUST DECIDED TO FILL THE WHOLE THING OUT! I headcanon Peril as Intersex and nonbinary!! AND SAME FOR ME, they fall fight between “I know them” and “their lore is literally impacted by their transsexualism”!! Peril is a very Nonbinary character to me, the way she was raised to view things as very “black & white” and hosting a sense of little self autonomy— makes them finding a comfortable identity in a very “”in the middle”” gender compelling! Especially within the understanding of how Peril was raised and brought up in someone else’s vision, being able to find self-identity in that nature of breaking down the “black & white” structure that was forced on them through the act of finding identity in neutrality. I find the development of self-love extended through gender expression in that nature something that works well in-unison with Peril’s pre-existing themes! Especially in regards to the layered metaphors of the Necklace. As a nonbinary person myself - I found that to be a pinnacle moment of forced suppression of identity into something more “palatable” to the public perception - in this analysis that being the forcing of femininity onto a gnc aligning identity - speaking to the way many nonbinary identity’s are expected to lean “one direction or the other”. So that moment being involved in Perils story - and her breaking free of it and having a self-realization/control moment - very reflective of nonbinary/gender non conforming experiences !!
With that though - thats just my own interpretation and connection to those aspects of Peril’s characterization! I find her lore and themes within her character to speak to many universal experiences of identity that can be interpreted in a fluid way. Like I personally read it as a very compelling arc about non-conformity and applied my own experiences with gender expression onto it, but other interpretations/analyses are just as strong! Thats why I put this headcanon in the middle, because I find it connects heavily to their lore, but is similarly just an extension of it and not necessarily interwoven in-full. Its a lot of personal interpretation which is why the personable “I know them” also 100% fits my perception of transgenderism onto Peril <33
Also the Intersex headcanon is purely a me thing, I always thought Peril was intersex just like. Factually lmao (one of those “I somehow convinced myself this was canon and was surprised to learn it was not” moments lmao). The reason I included it as well is because within my headcanon I think Peril would similarly absorb her being intersex to a further extension of gender identity! Again, breaking down those “black & white” views that were forced on them through themself - literally! Notably being intersex does not inherently mean gender identity is going to be impacted as well, just for this headcanon I feel Peril’s relationship to their gender identity would be strongly impacted by them being intersex <3 !!
OKAY SORRY THIS GOT LONG BUT THIS WAS FUN TO WRITE! TWICE ! LMAO! I have lots of thoughts on these guys so feel free to ask any questions about the other characters if ya want!!! I have many thoughts lmao…
Also I love analyzing these dragons so if anyone has a different interpretation of the characters & wanna share PLEASE DO!!!! I love hearing other perspectives, especially if they contrast my own interpretations, it’s all so cool!!!! <333

hello fellow fandom people on tumblr, i have a question as someone who is very autistic and has had a lot of conversations where i feel like there are miscommunications going on
talking purely about discussion of actual canon rather than headcanons, and specifically in terms of same-gender attraction (i.e. gay/lesbian/bi/pan/etc characters, just for the sake of simplicity in categories here, since conveying characters as trans/nb and aro/ace is a bit different, and trying to handle specifically separating out gay/lesbian characters and bi/pan/etc characters in one would also be messy):
i'd also be curious to know how old you are and what your main fandom(s) are (and what characters in those might fit this) if you feel like adding that in the tags as well, but no pressure!

hello oh great provider of art and analysis, do you have any tips on how to correctly analyse a character?
Funnily, I don't think there's a correct way to analyze media, but there are incorrect ways to do it. But my advice for sound analysis is as follows...
Look at Canon. Reference it as heavily as physically possible. Take into consideration who the author is, and what their intentions would be. Extradiegetic Analysis is extremely important. Commit to it. Do not pussyfoot around Extradiegetic Analysis. Take into consideration the story, its tone, who it's made for, who it is marketed towards, what messages it's trying to convey, how, and why. Use Occam's Razor heavily. Ground yourself, turn off "Fandom Brain", and your own personal headcanons. Remember that Characters are Plot Devices, not People- they are put in the story for a reason, and they serve a particular function within the narrative. Ask yourself what that reason is, and what that function is. It's important to get a firm grasp of the story and the characters in it before extrapolating. Ponder their relationships with themself, others, the world around them, their task at hand. Try to take into account framing, themes, motifs, and symbolism.
Grab anything that really stands out to you, see what you can do with it. Analyze why it stands out to you. Does it match your own personal experience in some way? Does it remind you of something else? Does it seem to be setting something up within the context of a story? Are the curtains blue for a reason? If not, should they be? What if they did? What function would that serve?
Analysis is largely asking questions and trying to answer them. Sometimes those questions are posed by the thing you're analyzing itself. Sometimes the question comes from your heart. Sometimes it emerges from something you've latched onto that isn't quite there - a blind spot in the narrative, missed potential, et cetera.
Again, Occam's Razor is your friend. Get very familiar with it. And... Do not consult Freud on anything. If you feel the impulse to consult Freudian analytical concepts without prompting from the narrative itself, that's the devil talking to you. Beat it to death immediately. We do not need Freudian analysis of children's cartoons. We literally do not need that. It will be wrong.
This is one I'm seeing more and more disregard for lately, especially with regards to minority headcanons... Consider the real-world implications of your analysis. I do not think it is very "woke" to headcanon unrepentant sexually abusive assholes as trans women, or characters who are known for their loudness, aggression, and abusive natures as Black. Consider optics for maybe, like, five seconds. Analysis is just as much an act of introspection as it is an act of dissecting a piece of fiction. You need to be able to ask yourself why you're seeing characters the way that you're seeing them. Sometimes that answer is latent bigotry. Unpack that. Work on it. Sometimes the answer is that the author is a bigot and trying to tell you something about the group of people a character is supposedly representative of. Acknowledge it. Unpack that. Work with it. And I mean that seriously- you cannot just skirt around bigotry without perpetuating the bigotry yourself. Analysis will, by way of the vulnerability of the practice, get uncomfortable at times. Be ready for that.
Think critically and think for yourself. A lot of people shoot themselves in the foot by being reactionary, and/or letting other people do the thinking for them. Again, analysis will get uncomfortable at times. It is vulnerable, introspective, and an act of challenging yourself and your worst habits. Commit to that.
Oh, and have fun. Yes, I just spent several paragraphs talking about how analysis is challenging and uncomfortable, but don't make yourself have a genuinely bad time on purpose. You truly do not need to give yourself an attack or episode for the sake of an internet post or something. Horror movie rules - know your limits and respect them.
That's all for now, I think. There's infinite nuance to this subject, but I believe this is a decent 101 post.

calling june a "headcanon" does a disservice to the idea. june is a fully coherent read of the character gained from the text and was heavily appreciated by the author of the story and planned to be put in the work itself. that's not a headcanon anymore, that's just literally being correct. it makes me so mad when people dismiss june as "a headcanon", or go with the "june was only real because of the toblerone wish", because june was planned for months before the toblerone even happened! also, the toblerone wish wasn't a thing until after june was confirmed. the initially "toblerone wish" was 2 friends jokingly calling themselves the new author of homestuck, declaring june real, and then andrew hussie showed up and was like "you're correct".
the confirmation of june being canon was actually just a spoiler (or as much as a characters identity could be a spoiler), and the fact that she hasn't appeared in hs2 yet is just because the moment isn't right for it yet, narratively.
but also june is a trans woman in all timelines regardless of what you think.

Thinking about Sayo's gender is always so interesting because there's this really, really wide range of things people consider Sayo to be.
You have people who look at Sayo and they go "this is a transfem character" which I consider to be correct, 100%: it's very clear that Sayo desires femininity and socially (and physically, by padding their chest) transitions towards it. Shannon and Beatrice both have femininity, albeit different expressions of it, as a clear part of their identity. People can be transfem and identify as various things: transfem means a transition to femininity but doesn't need to mean a transition to womanhood.
And people look at Sayo and say, "this is a nonbinary character". "this is a demigirl character". as compared to people who look at Sayo and/or Beatrice and say, "this is a trans woman". And they can both be right - because it's interpretation.
...And then you have me, who looks at sayo and goes "this is a genderfluid character", haha. I think it's a bit less popular, but there are probably people who agree, given the kudos count on the few fics I have that mention the headcanon are decent.
I don't think anyone is wrong, really - we can all look at this character, who has a canonical and complex relationship with gender, and who also tries to transition in both directions (transfem as Shannon and Beatrice, transmasc as Kanon) and we can interpret it in different ways, project our own experiences onto it, etc.
I'm sure me being genderfluid and intersex influences how I see Sayo as very heavily intersex-coded (Nanjo's nonconsensual surgery, lack of periods/fertility despite being raised as a woman, implications that she has ambiguous genitals) and genderfluid.
What I really worry about is that people might take their own headcanon or interpretation and think that it is wrong because others disagree - or the opposite, and presume that everyone else is wrong for not agreeing. Sayo is canonically queer, and transgender, but the specifics of that should be left up to every individual reader. I hope everyone can agree on that.

I really, really hate the "Female V is canon" vs "Male V is canon" debate that been popping here and here in the tags those past weeks
Cyberpunk 2077 is a Role Playing Game, there is no "canon" protagonist, that's the whole point. We all have a different playstyles, different stories and headcanons, our custom V is The Canon V of Our Own playthroughs!
After Phantom Liberty dropped, I've seen a lot of players, on Tumblr or Twitter, voicing their concerne and disappointment in how much more Female V focused the official promo, videos and even in-game credits became
I was one of them too, expressing my feelings multiple times, sometimes awkwardly, frustrated that Male V players were once again brushed to the side, because that's how it feels like, right?
Well, it might feels like it, but this isn't the case AT ALL, far from it. This is only what I would call a "Fandom Phenomenon" and I want to talk more about it a bit
I had a great conversation with a friend of mine who works in the game industry and it opened my eyes on the matter, and I've since been really interested in seeing RPGs statistics!
Because it's really, really important to make the difference between the Casual Player Base (majority of players) and the Fans / Fandom Base (minority of players)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I always been lurking in fandoms here on Tumblr, since Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and now with Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3
First I want to drop some stats- might be completly wrong, but I'm only sharing my point of view here, in an attempt to explain why some people are frustrated with Female V being the focus (and why we shouldn't be!)
I think it's not wrong to say that fandoms are mostly occupied by women and fem-identifying individuals; fandoms are a safe place for players and fans to share their passions. Women are STILL HEAVILY harassed and hated in the gaming industry as a whole, it doesn't take a lot of digging to catch a vile comment on Twitter or on Twitch for example, you cannot go far without seeing someone either attacking or sexualizing them
This is a huge problem in the industry still, every games that release with a female protagonist get trashed- just look at the bullshit surrounding GTA 6 just because players will be able to play as a woman as an option
Fandoms are also safe for non-gender conforming people, non-binaries, trans people and queer men, but I think fem individuals and women are a clear majority, at least on Tumblr (only talking about genders identity here and not about being queer or not, not talking about sexualities or attraction) (not an official stat at all and only my point of view and experience from being on Tumblr since ~2012)
Now let's talk about Cyberpunk 2077- because this is my main fandom since 2020, and what prompted me to write this post in the first place
CDPR didn't share any stats recently, but it's REALLY SAFE to assume the MAJORITY of players are playing a straight Male V romancing Panam, followed by a lesbian Female V romancing Judy, but the player pools for both options are still majoritarly cis hetero men (and they are still the focus for AAA studios to sell their games, this is sadly just how it is)
However on the fandom side, Fem V was always the focus; virtual photography, mods, ships, OCs... She was always more popular than Male V, getting more interactions and notes and why trends like "Male V monday" were created and why there is still a lack of male V focused mods (non-binaries and trans fem folks and characters are also sadly under-represented in all type of content and art)
So, being yourself as a non-fem player, playing as a Masc V, seeing CDPR officially make the switch from Male V to Female V, when the space you've been in for the past 3 years has been overwhelmingly Female V focused on all front, was a bit of a punch in the guts; like I said earlier, I was reaaally frustrated with this too!
And I'd say it's "normal"? or at least "ok" to feel this way, it makes sense considering how little attention Male V in general get in the fans community
BUT. BUT... It's REALLY important here to realize how we sound and how we look like when we voice our frustrations on the matter; we sound and look just like all the misogynistic people over on Twitter who screams about "woke games" everytime there is a female protagonist in their "non political games". We have to remember that fandoms are suuuch a small part of the game industry
Baldur's Gate 3 recently shared their stats and this interesting tweet got into my dash
Tumblr media
▶ tweet
Astarion is nowhere to be seen in the official most romanced companions statistic, but I'm sure a lot of people will agree that he's probably the most popular one in the fandom side!
Another stat here from Mass Effect and really interesting info coming from David Gaider about how the hardcore fanbase aka fandom's choices were WILDLY different from the casual / main player pool
Tumblr media
▶ tweet
Getting my head out of the fandom bubbles and seeing the bigger picture, how much under-represented women still are in official medias (not talking about fan content) and how insanly misoginistic the game industry still is, both on the player and devs sides, helped me handle my own frustration on the matter, accept and even celebrate Female V being the focus for the Phantom Liberty campaign
With all that said tho, we all should be able to vent about the lack of Male, Masc and Non-Binary content in the fandom side, while still being aware of the industry state, it CAN co-exist! It doesn't make anyone a bad or misogynist person!
We are all humans and can be awkward and make mistakes, especially when voicing frustration or talking while in a negative mood. Let's educate one another in good-faithed manners when we slip instead of jumping to conclusion and throw accusations
Not gonna lie I kind of lost my train of thoughts and not sure how to finish this post, but I hope this can enlight some people on why CDPR made this choice!
Repeating this as a finale note; this doesn't mean that Female V is the "main" V or "canon" V . It's simply her time to shine, and it's well deserved! The industry needs it

Okay, like a couple minutes ago I learned that it is actually trans day of visibility today soo woohoo! Kind of hard to celebrate in this shithole called the UK though, so I’m going to hide on tumblr and talk about which characters I think are trans coded or just Headcanon as trans because it’s my day I can do that now heheheh-
Also, I’m just tryna do a little thing for trans visibility day, I like being opaque, I ain’t trying to start any arguments, if you see a Headcanon you disagree with, just scroll. And if you think I’m biased towards transfem characters, it’s because I am and I ain’t apologising for that, they’re underrated in terms of fandom and obvs I’m transfem so I love them and relate to them more. Transmasc characters still will be on this list though as there’s so many that I love.
Characters That I Think Are Transgender Because Fuck You
Number one: Hunter Noceda (The Owl House)
Tumblr media
This was probably the easiest and hardest pick for the list, for a couple reasons. Number one, I don’t think there’s a single person who agreed this pathetic wet cat is cisgender. Whether you think he’s transmasc, transfem, something else entirely, he ain’t cis. It’s clear why the fandom clung to Hunter as the resident trans character, him having a secret identity via The Golden Guard (seriously, any character with a secret identity is immediately trans, I don’t make the rules), the overconfident attitude mixed with deep insecurity and his arc about finding a way to ‘like who he is right now’ in Thanks To Them really just sealed the deal. Other little details like how his hair cuts helped him find his new identity did not help his case.
While I personally think he’s transfem, and am just using he/him because that’s his canon pronouns, Hunter is one of those characters that a lot of people can identify with which is what The Owl House is really about so I kinda had to include him on this list. The reason it was a hard decision is because holy fuck, every single character in this show is trans. Deciding between him and Amity was the hardest choice of my life because transfem Amity is heavily underrated and I love her, but you really can’t compete with Hunter, he’s had an amazing influence on the fandom and the character has probably helped a lot of people come to terms with their identity.
To summarise, Hunter is a great character, I miss him everyday, I miss The Owl House everyday, he was cool as fuck and a lotta people identified with him.
Anne Boonchuy (Amphibia)
Tumblr media
This is one that I feel is heavily underrated, and that’s coming from someone that took two years after the show ended to watch Amphibia. With Amphibia, pretty much all of the human characters are Headcanonned (is that a word?) as some part of the trans umbrella but Anne is the one who does not get enough attention, especially for a main character.
At least to me, Anne was very transfem-coded in the show, everything from her raggedy appearance, to her essentially assuming a new life in Amphibia to the arc about accepting who you are to THE SONG ABOUT ACCEPTING WHO YOU ARE-this was the most in your face, trans-coded rep I could ever ask for. But she is criminally underrated in terms of being viewed as trans rep even though I’ve found her story one of the most compelling in terms of trans coded storylines in nearly any piece of media I’ve ever seen. Give Anne more attention, she’s literally the best. Marcy and Sasha are cool too but Anne’s writing deserves so much more praise than it gets.
Tumblr media
Dipper Pines (Gravity Falls)
If you haven’t realised it yet, this entire list so far is just one massive fuck you to Disney because fuck Disney. Dipper was the closest we got to having a canon trans main character in a mainstream animated show and it was taken from us, fuck Disney y’all. But still, Alex has all but confirmed Dipper’s identity as trans masculine, you can see remnants of that arc with him learning that he’s a man in his own right and masculinity being something he can define for himself, the whole thing about Dipper actually being a nickname, and him bonding with the men in his life, like Stan.
Even though I didn’t notice it when I was a kid watching the show, rewatching it now with the knowledge of Dipper’s identity makes the experience a bit more personal, I can see bits of myself in Dipper and I think that’s the whole point of his character. Watching it as a kid you can relate to him because of his sarcasm, his bluntness, his comedy but also because of how heroic, adventurous and curious he is, he’s basically the idealistic role of the viewer. But as you get older and think more critically about him, you can see more of his flaws and that makes him so much more real and so much more relatable. Obviously being trans isn’t a flaw, that was just me doing a side tangent because Dipper means the world to me and is only the standard of writing a cartoon protagonist in some ways, I just think he’s a really cool character and Disney robbed us.
Also Pacifica is transfem because TfT couples are hecking adorable
Tumblr media
Sallie May (Helluva Boss)
Guess who just realised that (other than Dipper technically) I haven’t put a single canon trans character on this list. Headcanons are better, I don’t make the rules, but Sallie May is amazing. No matter how critical you are of Helluva Boss, one thing it unapologetically does well is queer representation. The amount of characters that the audience can relate to makes it almost addicting to watch as you get to watch these characters live their best lives. Well, their lives are kinda fucked but you get what I mean, they just get to live as queer people, most of the time.
And Sallie May is proof that trans people will eat up absolutely anything, even if it’s a whole thirty seconds of screen time of a trans character. Being fair to her, Sallie May eats up every moment she gets on screen, her dialogue can be equivocated to just a middle child acting like a middle child and I think it is partly that, I feel like we have a lot more to learn about Sallie May and in turn her sister Millie. At least I hope we do, Millie’s writing needs to improve, their family dynamics can be so interesting because every other one of their siblings is a boy, their parents can be judgemental, I feel like even if Sallie May can be a bit taunting to her, those two are probably really close, especially since Millie is one of the people Sallie May would have to go to for girl advice.
To summarise, since I went off on a bit of a tangent, Helluva Boss brings out the worst in me, give Sallie May and Millie more screen time, they’re the best, we love healthy sibling dynamics.
Tumblr media
Double Trouble (She-Ra)
Jesus, they’re hot. Anyway, the first non binary entry on this list, the fabulous Double Trouble who stole the entire show from the moment they were introduced. Throughout the entirety of the last season, I can remember just waiting for the point that they’d show up again and nearly screaming when they did.
Double Trouble was one of the most charming members of the She-Ra cast and became effortlessly iconic, conning every single character, playing both sides of a war so that they’d come out on top, and they did win in the end. DT basically had zero consequences and even got to flirt with Sea Hawk when they were reintroduced so they got a win really. Double Trouble was mean, condescending and a liar and I love them so, so much, them being a shapeshifter is just absolutely perfect and fits their character so well. It was nice to see Non-binary rep in a cartoon and have it not immediately be cancelled, looking at Disney and thank God it wasn’t because She-Ra really wouldn’t be the same without this manipulated, child of a bitch
Tumblr media
Crowley (Good Omens)
You know the gender’s hitting when you don’t even know what the fuck the gender is. Crowley is a delight of the character from the moment they’re introduced to the end of the show, which nearly broke my heart since I watched it just recently, if anybody would like to send me tissues, that would be greatly appreciated.
From my vast research of one google search, I’ve concluded that they’re gender is up to viewer interpretation which is actually what mine is too so I can respect that. This literal demon stole the show whenever they were on screen, whether it was David Tenant’s acting, the moments we saw softer sides of him, her pinning over Aziriphale of them just being an actual demon, Crowley is a wonderful piece of representation and I hate that because it makes me sad, let them get together, please.
Tumblr media
KFC
Not to be confused with that one place that makes pretty good chicken, I’m talking about the protagonists of two of the best RPGs ever made, Undertale and Deltarune.
For those unaware, KFC is the trio name of Frisk, Undertale’s protagonist, Chara, Undertale’s narrator and Kris, Deltarune’s narrator. Despite them being the main characters, they’re not characterised too strongly as you are in control of them for most of the game, minus Chara who specifically says you aren’t in control of them. Due to it being canon to the games that you are playing as these characters, the Internet started a rumour that they are whatever gender you want them to be, which was just never true. Undertale is packed with trans representation, and these three are no exception. It’s the whole reason I added them to the list actually, just to get the message across if anyone was unsure; they’re all Nonbinary.
Frisk and Kris, despite only having glimmers of their true characters in the game, are still very lovable and intriguing with their actions. Even just the idea of these two being controlled, which is more of a heavy theme in Deltarune, is enough to make you interested in their characters, especially when Kris starts fighting back against you. This entire section is just gonna be a couple paragraphs of me fighting back the urge to yap about Undertale lore so you’ll have to forgive me. Chara, being the only one not under your control, has a much stronger character through the lines of dialogue from them or said about them, the latter usually being more interesting as it gives you insight to their tragic life.
Undertale is one of my favourite and given the amount of rep it’s given us, I had to pay homage to its own main characters on this list. Even though I’m hungry cause now I’m thinking about KFC.
Tumblr media
Jake Peralta (Brooklyn Nine Nine)
I think it’s been a year since I finished tumblr’s favourite sitcom and while Jake was lovable, he didn’t stand out to me too much. Still, this guy suffered from that overconfidence but riddled with insecurity personality which lead to him being inevitably headcanonned (it’s a word I decided) as trans masculine. I don’t know what the correlation is between those kinds of characters and the transmasc headcanon, maybe it’s the desire to present as being that confident, maybe it’s being that confident but still held back by struggles about your gender identity but that’s neither here nor there.
What is here and is there is that this show was amazing for trans people, even if only in small ways and Jake was no exception to that. He was funny and watching him grow through those eight seasons gives you one of the most satisfying and heart throbbing conclusions to a TV show, largely due to his presence as the main character. Even though it’s not canon that he was trans masculine, the Headcanon is so popular that I had to pay homage to him and add him to the list.
Jack Kennedy (DSAF)
Is this fandom so dead and so unpopular that I couldn’t find a good gif? Yes. Am I gonna talk about it anyway because I love these games and I want an excuse and this is my day? Yes.
Anyway, Jack Kennedy was the main protagonist of the Day Shift at Freddy’s games and if you don’t know what those are, there’s a 50% chance you had an alright childhood. DSaF is obviously a fan game of the more well known horror franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s and I think they are some of the best fa games ever made. They’re hilarious, they’re so low budget it’s insane, it can give you the hardest tonal whiplash of not taking itself seriously to one of the hardest stories you’ve ever went through seamlessly and I don’t even get a fuck. The story told by these games is done so well and evokes so many emotions but one important thing it’s done is actually be really great for queer rep.
Despite it being played for more of a joke in the earlier games, the two characters Jack and Dave Millie clearly have romantic chemistry and that was so important back when the games released since they became so mainstream due to being attached to a popular franchise. Many fans headcanon Jack Kennedy as being non binary, which is a label that I think really works for them, mainly because it fits for the protagonists of roleplay games to be non binary. I can’t explain why, it just makes presenting the character to the audience so much easier and makes them a lot easier to play without having to worry too much about the gender of the character.
Anyway, Jack’s a self described asshole with a noble goal, and playing as them really gives you a feel of their character and makes you understand why this little known indie franchise snuck into so many people’s hearts.

Bridget (Guilty Gear Rising)
You know I had to end off the list with one of the most iconic, canon, transfem characters out of there. Pretty much every single transfem has heard of Brisket and not a single one has played Guilty Gear Rising, I had to look up the name of this game just before this to make sure I got the right one.
Bridget has recently become a meme on the Internet, with every other transfem having her in her pfp, Bridget became a staple in the community. As stated, I can’t talk too much about her character but seeing the Internet come together to just appreciate this one transfem character, despite their being obvious hate and pushback and claiming her being canon transfem was a ‘mistranslation’ (to my knowledge) was actually really heart warming.
I didn’t really get trans day of visibility too much, I was happy for it, thought it was cool we got a day but it didn’t really help us all that much. But the more I thought about Bridget is the more that I saw just how good it can feel when people come together. It doesn’t have to be a movement or a call to action to save trans people from another bill trying to wipe them out, which is just depressing to listen to, it can just be as simple as joking about this character that barely any of us know. That level of community made me understand what this day was actually about; finding common ground and letting at least one other person know that they’re not alone, that there’s so many people just like you out there, that went through the exact same thing as you did at some point. And to let you know, those people turned out fine, so you’ll be okay too.
Happy trans day of viability everyone, even if this list only reaches one person to let them know they’re not alone, I’ll be happy with that.
Anyway, ignore the emotional stuff there, here’s my honourable mention of

“I hate when great characters like johnny are reduced to a twink gay boy by teen girls” first of all, twink? In what world does anybody consider johnny a twink? Just say a slur atp, second…a headcanon (which completely makes sense and is actually heavily hinted at by in canon btw) of him being bi shouldn’t bother you bc it’s just an hc? Third, you’re just homophobic bc why is it considered “reducing” of the character the second someone makes a bisexual hc concerning him? You should be more bothered by media illiterate assholes who reduce him to a one dimensional sigma Patrick Bateman asshole but hey! that’s just me! And lastly fourth, “teen girls”? My brother in Christ…I’m a bisexual trans man who likes to see myself represented in my favorite characters, not a teenage girl who fetishizes mlm ships? Why do y’all think the face of fandom is always cishet teen girls when there’s also lgbt here? And even if I was a teen girl who shipped mlm that’s not a sin, go outside these characters ain’t real

DC characters i think have tgirl swag:
1.All the Wonderfam girls.Pretty self-explanatory,they're literally ancient greek women
2.Lian.Idc that we were introduced to her since she was a baby, she's my stepdaughter so i know her better than DC.Hope that helps👍🏼Also obligatory blue hair and pronouns joke
3.KORY Everything about her screams femme trans woman from her personality to her looks and relathionships and she gets extra swag for being a darkskinned black one
4.Batgirl is an inherently transfem mantle just like Robin is an inherently trans one in general
5.Meloni.Trans milf rights and she's a badass sweetheart who's super funny just like all irl trans women
6.Rose.No cis woman could be that cool and her relathionship with Slade gains even more depth with a trans woman narrative
7.Onto egg headcanons,Bart and Thad but in opposite directions!!Bart is a pastel 'kiddy' soft uwu girl who gets gender euphoria from looking exactly like her mom and Thad finds freedom and comfort in the 'edgier'(meaning alt)types of girlhood and her mental health improves greatly after she realizes she's trans. The Bart one was partially inspired by a Konbart post i saw paralleling them to Peter Pan and Wendy because of Kon's canon Peter Pan motif so they're transmasc4transfem!!
8.Dick!!@chadfarsight told me that she headcanons her as a trans woman because DC tries so hard to force stereotypical cishet masculinity on her that it comes across as ooc and is also heavily disrepectful to her original writing like her romance with Kory and friendships with the other Titans(and Roy is also included in romances imo and i can point to some Dickroy and Jaderoy parallels pretty easily). That and the fandom makes babygirl-coded and eldest daughter syndrome about her so often and keeps making her apperance, mannerisms and gender presentation more feminine than in canon so at this point i'm like *Shrugs*'Well,if you guys say she's a woman, who am i to deny her the right to be a girlboss?'And the idea of the first superhero kid sidekick growing up to be a trans woman is just very pog
9.Maya,Maps and Kathy aka the Damian Teen Titans generation girls we deserved.Maya is giving the cool older girl variant,Maps' personality and gender presentation is very younger trans girl energy to me as someone who's meet many of them and Kathy is simply a trans dorkgirl
10.Every Superfam girl except Mia(who has transmasc girl swag).I'm a Superfam member so trust me on this,it's canon

Tokyo Ghoul Headcanons
These are my own opinions drawn from interactions in the show and manga! Please be kind!
Hi hi!! For sillies I wanted to share my TG headcanons! I am a genderfluid aroace lesbian so I'm kind of biased towards the women bc I'm in love w them all tbh but I'll probably make more if I feel like it. For now have some main ones :)
Hide (he/him cis) - Bisexual! He's heavily bi coded in the manga and in the anime too! The way he interacts with Kaneki especially is very...
Saiko (she/they trans) - She's a character I project onto a lot. She doesn't seem to care much for romance or really socializing in general which is so real tbh. Her lack of caring I don't think translates to her platonic relationships later in the series (as we see) but I think her romantic interest is slim to none.
Urie (he/him cis (?) I can see him as trans tbh) - He is a bitter gay man. Prove me wrong. He's the black cat to Ginshi's golden retriever.
Ginshi - Bisexual! To me he seems unconcerned w labeling himself but still views everyone as attractive and isn't sure why.
Tooru (he/him trans) - MY FAVOURITE CANON TRANS MAN ILY 🙏🙏 He's gay imo but I am open to other interpretations as well.
Juuzou (he/they agender) - Demisexual but even then hasn't ever been romantically involved w anyone bc of his trauma.
Rize (she/her demigirl) - I have no clue why but she gives off a lesbian demigirl vibe idk?? I'm in love w her and want her to be a lesbian but besides that. I have nothing.
Ayato (he/him trans) - I think he's a trans man and aroace. I don't imagine him falling in love like. At all.
Touka (they/she nonbinary I just forgot the flag) - LESBIANISM ‼️‼️ Touka belongs on the island w me and the other lesbians. I view her and Kaneki's relationship as more platonic in the first series. In :re it's a Lot harder to ignore but I choose to ignore canon a lot anyways in favour of my happiness so idk. Plus she's in love w her human best friend so idk what to tell y'all besides the Touka is a lesbian truth.
Kaneki / Haise Sasaki (he/they demiboy) - I normally view these two as different people BUT I can honestly see Kaneki impacting Sasaki's identity and vice versa. Kaneki just whispering in his ear "you WILL be gay. You have no choice."
Anyways if you made it this far in my ramble thank you so much!! I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed making it :)

I love all your transfemme shinji stuff!!! Is it something you picked up from watching the show, or just your own personal headcanon? (I just wanna hear more lore about her tbh)
Alright, so I took a surprisingly long time to think about a response to this that didn't come off as the messiest answer ever. The short version is - both.
I think that, even sticking only to official media both in terms of canon and IRL comments from people who worked on the series, Shinji is the best accidental transfem character ever created. None of it (?) is intentional, but there's zero stretches that need to be made to interpret her as so, at least in my opinion. I could genuinely write an essay as to why I think this way (and frankly I will if prompted), but I'll just share my favourite example for now:
In an interview with main Evangelion character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto at the end of volume 2 of his manga version of the series, he briefly discusses designing characters, starting with Shinji. He first describes Shinji's hair as that of a "boyish young girl", and follows up by explaining how heavily based on Nadia (from Gainax's first TV series) her design is - leading to my favourite quote, "...in concrete terms, his eyes are a girl's eyes."
A girl's eyes trapped in a boy's body. I'm not sure how 1:1 Viz's translation is with his original quote, but fuck if this series isn't amazing at accidentally churning out trans metaphors (and that isn't even touching on the fact that a major component of Shinji's character is being forced to pilot a body she don't want to because the adults in her life say that’s what’s right and building her sense of identity around hating being forced to do so)!!
All that yapping aside, when you see me drawing her it's 99.9% likely to be my little headcanon AU based on episode 26's alt continuity with some... obvious tinkering. If you're willing to subject yourself to a bit of fanfiction, I'm writing an ongoing fic that demonstrates it far better than I ever could explain. It also has pretty pictures!
Apologies for the long response, this has essentially opened up whatever the Pandora's Box equivalent is for my special interests.
