He's a massive cuddle bug.

spider is not good at expressing his emotions. at. all. he knows when he’s happy and he’s content most of the time, but he hates having to acknowledge when he’s upset about something.

when he’s angry, he gets frustrated and then he gets sad too. but, when you help him recognise and understand his feelings and listen to him, he knows the feeling of relief.

he hates crying infront of people too, but for some reason he feels perfectly fine coming to you and letting tears slip, as you hold him.

spider is a messy boy. his room in the lab is a mess. he has plastic jars of blue paint tipping out of his bin. he also never makes his bed.

spider does have some human clothes but prefers to wear his loincloth. if i gets a little chilly, he’ll put on a tank. he owns mostly basketball shorts and t-shirts and sweatpants.

but he has sweaters and hoodies, he wore one once out to the village and lo’ak was so intrigued by the feeling of the material, he asked to try it on.

his long arms and torso stretched it out thigh so now it’s kinda baggy, but tuk saw it too and calls the hood a “queue carrier”, because lo’ak tucked his queue in the hood when he tried it on.

spider makes bracelets for you in his free time, jake once told him that on earth when humans want to get married they propose with a ring, he knows he’s probably not old enough to marry you yet, so he settles for beaded necklaces and leather bracelets.

in the lab, spider found an old tv in a storage cupboard and a few tapes of old movies that recruits used to watch, norm fixed it up for him and put it in his room, the movies are a little old and he’s watched them thousands of times but he never gets bored.

especially, if you’re laying in his bed with him and watching them together and falling asleep.

The nice thing about reaching adulthood as a trans person is that there are plenty of instances where, before as a kid, your transness mattered, but now it doesn't necessarily

When I was in high school, I was required to take a P.E. class to graduate, and I was always yelled at for being late and bringing my backpack to class with me because I couldn't change in locker rooms like the other guys. I changed in a faculty restroom and brought my bag with me, my tardiness be damned. It gave me an unhealthy view of fitness because I despised how othered I felt, and I couldn't articulate why I didn't feel safe necessarily. I felt like transness would always be what others saw before they saw me, and I hated that feeling. I don't like being seen as The Trans Person, I just like being seen as me, where being trans is part of me but not the whole.

However, as an adult, I can join a gym and they don't fucking care. I get to retrain how to have a healthy relationship with fitness on my own terms because now, I have the freedom to be left the fuck alone about my transness. I love weightlifting, I love feeling physically fit, and high school was not the place for me as a trans person.

If any young trans person is feeling how I felt about their transness being front-and-center, just, please hold out hope. I know shit's scary, especially for you young people, and I do not blame you for how you feel. Just know that there can be good out there.
