“It does not actually articulate or force the articulation of a strategy for how to end the conflict to begin with. So you basically have a blank check — or a near blank check — for a strategy that’s completely gone off the rails.”

Lee called out his Republican colleagues for sending aid to Ukraine at the expense of America’s own interests.

“By voting yes and passing this bill now, it empowers drug cartels, it dissolves our borders, it spends insane amounts of money that we don’t have on the priorities of foreign countries all at the same time,” he said.

Lee also slammed the bills’ proponents for defeating an effort led by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to increase accountability and oversight of the aid to the notoriously corrupt Ukrainian government through appointment of an inspector general.

“These are not choir boys,” Lee said. “These are not Boy Scouts. These are not Girl Scouts. These are people who have really set world records for corruption. It’s an art form over there.”

Vance laid out the arguments from Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for rushing the aid through without further accountability measures.

“The basic argument is that we have to rush resources to Ukraine immediately, or they’re liable to fall to Russian aggression,” he said. “And it’s all basically an argument made under the gun that unless you approve this appropriation of resources and weapons, then you will allow Russia to win. So it’s a kind of moral blackmail.”

Supporters of yet more aid to Ukraine can not admit the reality that the war is not winnable for Ukraine, Vance continued. “They can’t admit that this isn’t going well because if they admitted that, it would cause too much psychological harm, and they’d have to cut bait.”

Johnson added that proponents argue that it is in politicians’ naked political interests to support the aid because “it’s helping build our industrial base, and so it’s creating jobs in your state. And I call that a depraved justification.”

Musk, who noted his contributions to Ukraine’s war efforts, echoed the assessment of the trio of senators that the war is ultimately not winnable and that a peace deal is in their best interests.

Ukraine is “losing people every day,” he said. “And if you’re going to spend lives, it must be for a purpose.”

Musk continued:

There is no way in hell that Putin is going to lose. If he would back off, he would be assassinated. And for those who want regime change in Russia, they should think about: Who is the person that could take out Putin? And is that person likely to be a peacenik? Probably not. They’re probably gonna be even harder, even more hardcore than Putin if they took him out. Ramaswamy detailed additional “unacceptable” risks to American and global interests from continued “endless funding” of the fighting in Ukraine, arguing that Americans see “daily strengthening of the military alliance between Russia and China, which, when combined, is the single greatest increase for the risk of World War III that we’ve seen in the post-World War II era.”

If the foreign aid passes the Senate, as is expected, the House must still act. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would likely face a rebellion from members of the Republican conference if he brought the bill to the floor.

Monday night, after the conclusion of the X Space, Johnson seemed to throw cold water on the Senate’s package, echoing earlier statements that Congress must address American border security first.

“In the absence of having received any single border policy change from the Senate, the House will have to continue to work its own will on these important matters,” a Johnson statement read. “America deserves better than the Senate’s status quo.”

The timing before Monday night’s vote is important, sending the message to any on-the-fence Republican senators that a vote on the unpopular aid package would imperil their political standing for legislation that will not become law.

Some Democrats have insisted they will use all the parliamentary tools at their disposal to bring the bill to the floor, although a path forward for the legislation in the House is unclear.

A/N: This was requested as part of my 500 follower celebration. Sorry it has taken me so long to start getting these out, but be on the lookout for more of these requests in the coming days/ weeks.

This is another installment of the Auston Matthews X Friend Series, providing a little more insight into their friendship.

TW: It's basically pure fluff, but there is mentions of needles and tattoo's (obviously) and mentions of drinking and sex (no actual smut)

What are you doing tomorrow?

It was such a simple and easy question, something you had asked Auston hundreds of times throughout your more than a decade long friendship. He could practically smell the alcohol through the speaker as he told you he was going to the gym in the morning, which, given the fact it was almost 3am and you were just crawling into bed, you were thankful for. You barely remember the phone call or making lunch plans together and would have thought it was a dream if not for the 10am Postmates delivery of coffee and a breakfast sandwich he sent to your house.

He fully thought by the time you sobered up your mind would have changed, and you’d be hungover and in a cuddly mood. That’s why after the gym he went home and showered, then changed into a pair of trackpants and simple grey t-shirt along with a pair of slides, the perfect ensemble to lounge on the couch and tease you for the drunk and incoherent rambling you put him through the night before.

But to his surprise you opened the door, ready to take on the day. A bright red scoop neck t-shirt and your favourite denim shorts - the ones you got in high school that are likely a little too short from your senior year growth spurt; but they look amazing, and you haven’t managed to part with them. Your hair was simply styled, and your makeup appeared effortless, a slight glow to the cheekbones the only evidence you were wearing any.

“Oh, hi,” he stammered out awkwardly, taking you in. “You’re ready?”

“Yes,” your face scrunched up and you let out an airy laugh. “We have plans, so I got ready.” You playfully glanced up and down him then quirked your eyebrow.

“I just thought you’d be hungover,” he grinned, accepting that you looked infinitely better than he did. “Let’s go.”

Auston led you to the car, and even opened the door for you. Putting it in drive, you picked up his phone, put in the pin – something you long ago learned – and started scrolling through his Spotify. You went to a café for lunch, and even managed to convince him to eat the brownie you ordered, something he reluctantly indulges in even in the off-season. He of course pulled out his wallet and paid, even though you objected. You said that since you invited him, you should pay, and he just shook his head and grinned because it still baffles him that you try after all this time.

“Alright, you ready?” you clapped your hands and rubbed them together.

“For what?” the engine turned over and air conditioning began to pump through the vents.

“My tattoo?” Quirking an eyebrow, you glanced over the center console at him. “We talked about it last night.”

“I know, I just didn’t think you were serious.”

“Why wouldn’t I have been serious?” your arms crossed over your chest.

You aren’t actually offended by his statement or even the tone in which it was delivered. About a month ago he went to get a tattoo and mentioned it would take six hours, being the good friend that you are (and the fact that you hadn’t seen him in almost two months because of school) you offered to go with him and keep him company. As soon as the needle started your entire face contorted and for the first two hours you could barely watch what was happening.

“You were incredibly drunk,” he smirked back, but there is something about the way he looked at you that indicates there is more he wants to say. “You also talked about the sex you had with Mike, and his uncircumcised dick.” Heat flooded your cheeks and eyes went wide enough to be seen under the tinted lenses of your sunglasses. You and Auston have always had a fairly open friendship, talking about almost anything and everything, but those intimate details were typically kept for Sarah and Kayla. “So, you’re not a fan of hoods?” he grinned through the words.

“Auston!” you tried to scold, but it was no use, he was toying with you and best not feed into it. “Oh my god, you need to stop right now,” an uncomfortable laugh is all that can be managed as the entire slurred conversation from last night came rushing back.

“You didn’t last night,” knowing you for this long means he isn’t going to let you off that easy. “And apparently Mike didn’t either,” he smirked deviously. “I believe the term energizer bunny was used.”

Pulling your bottom lips between your teeth, you let out a shaky exhale, whishing you were anywhere but there. As much as Auston loves to tease you, he also knows that he has two options: One – Incessantly tease you until you can’t take anymore, and you bring up some blunder or indiscretion he has done and threaten to tell everyone in your friend group if he brings it up again. Two – leave it there, and one day maybe a week, a month or a year from now, bring it up again, pestering you just enough to get under your skin. The second option is always his favourite.

“I’m just messing with you,” his face softened, and he shot you a warm smile. “But you actually want to get a tattoo?”

“Yeah,” you spoke quietly.

“Where?”

“Uh…here” your hand trembled slightly as you brought it up to your shoulder blade.

“No,” he chuckled. “Where am I driving?”

“Oh,” you shook your head attempting to free yourself of the embarrassment and unlocked your phone. Tpying in the name you showed him the screen with the address

Auston winked at you one last time, then he set out on the short trek through the streets of Scottsdale. You didn’t want to talk to him anymore, responding merely with one-word answers. He didn’t take the hint. He kept talking, joking, doing anything to stop you from stewing in your own embarrassment and eventually you gave in (because you always do) and fell back into an easy conversation with him. He asked about the tattoo, and you told him how you booked it a week ago, but it wasn’t until the time drew closer that you realized you needed someone with you. You told him about the design you picked, and the meaning it held, and he smiled hearing you talk about it with such excitement even through your nerves.

“You ready?” He looked at you and could tell you were anxious.

Standing inside the studio the realization of what’s to come hit you, the potential for pain and discomfort. “Yeah,” you gulped harshly.

“You don’t have –“

“You have to hold my hand the entire time,” your eyes instantly dart to his, white fear blanketing your face.

“Yup,” he quickly nodded in response.

Reaching down you shakily tugged at the hem of your shirt and pulled it off, Auston never let his eyes drift downward. “Have to talk to me, distract me.”

He nodded again. “Obviously.”

“And you’re buying me ice cream after this,” you smirked at him wishfully.

“Of course.” The smile that followed was wide and reached his eyes, reminiscent of the eight-year-old boy who introduced himself at the playground your first day after moving. It’s the kind of smile you have seen countless times throughout the years, the type of smile that instantly grounds you.

Climbing onto the table, Auston set a chair immediately in front of you. The two of you talked with Ashley when she stepped in about the tattoo and the overall look you were going for. When it came time for her to lay the stencil down, Auston pushed a few of your baby hairs that couldn’t reach the ponytail to the side, and softly rubbed his thumb over your neck. When the needle first turned on, you instantly grabbed Auston’s hand and he placed a soft kiss to the back of your palm, whispering that he loved you.

“Some guys don’t even talk to their girl, let alone stay,” Ashley said, first bringing the needle to your back. Wincing momentarily, Ashley eased up on the pressure and you let out the exhale you had been holding onto. “You’re lucky to have such a supportive boyfriend.”

“Oh he’s –“ you trailed off and tears pricked the corner of your eyes when the needle pressed back into your skin.

“Yeah,” Auston shrugged it off so tactfully, unphased by the assumption so many have about your friendship. He continued to look at you, a smile playing on his lips, “she is lucky to have me.”

Vladimir Putin "Would Be Assassinated" If He Backs Out Of Ukraine: Elon Musk

Elon Musk told US Republican senators "there is no way in hell" that Russian President Vladimir Putin could lose the war on Ukraine, weighing in on a conflict that has been affected by Musk's own Starlink satellite services.

Musk, the billionaire chief executive officer of Tesla Inc., made the comments in a forum Monday on X Spaces, part of his X social media platform. The discussions included opponents of a Senate bill that would provide further assistance for Ukraine to continue battling the full-scale Russian invasion that began two years ago.

He was joined by Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, JD Vance of Ohio and Mike Lee of Utah, as well as Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, and David Sacks, a co-founder of Craft Ventures LLC.

Musk's comments came as he agreed with Johnson's statement that Putin would not lose in Ukraine. Johnson said those who expect a Ukraine victory were "living in a fantasy world."

"We gotta kill this thing," Vance said of the $95 billion measure, which includes $60 billion in assistance for Ukraine as well as funding for Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian aid for Gaza.

Musk added he hoped Americans would contact their elected representatives about the Ukraine bill. "This spending does not help Ukraine. Prolonging the war does not help Ukraine."

Musk has expressed similar sentiments before on X, doubting Ukraine's ability to win the war and mocking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's requests for aid. The tech mogul has come under criticism from Ukraine and Democratic members of Congress.

Musk said there was pressure on Putin to see the fight through. "If he were to back off, he would be assassinated," Musk said.

Musk told the senators he's sometimes accused of being a Putin apologist, but said that accusation was "absurd." He said his companies "have probably done more to undermine Russia than anything."

He cited SpaceX providing Starlink internet service to Ukraine, which has been critical to the nation's communications after Russia invaded, as well as SpaceX taking business away from Russia's space launch business.

His views contrast strongly with President Joe Biden and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who argue that aiding Ukraine's defense against the Kremlin is in America's interests and will help deter other autocrats from starting wars of their own.

The Senate continued work on the bill late Monday night, and it was expected to pass, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has insisted border security measures must come first.

Musk said his interest is in stopping the deaths of people on both sides of the war, adding he doubted the wisdom of seeking Putin's ouster.

"For those who want regime change in Russia, they should think about who is the person that could take out Putin, and is that person likely to be a peacenik? Probably not."

Trump-Backing Senate GOP Sours on Leader McConnell (About Time)

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's negotiations with Democrats to try to secure more Ukraine aid has drawn mounting attacks from hardliners within his party that some lawmakers say is a direct result of Donald Trump's rising influence.

McConnell, R-Ky., the chamber's longest-serving party leader at 81, has faced more heat from hardliners since Trump, the party's likely presidential nominee, torpedoed a bipartisan deal McConnell backed that aimed to stem the flow of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border and provide aid to Ukraine and Israel.

After party hardliners rejected that deal – which some had sought as a trade-off for the Ukraine aid – McConnell has continued to work with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to advance a standalone $95 billion security bill.

His willingness to work across the aisle – a practical necessity given a narrow Democrat majority – has become a liability among some of his Trump-aligned colleagues.

"Who has more influence? Probably Trump," Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., told reporters. "I mean, he's the future. He is going to be the nominee of the party. He may well win in November. Sen. McConnell is probably not the future."

McConnell's office declined to comment for this story. But he told U.S. media outlets last week he has faced tough political times before and survived. On the Senate floor Friday he said it was critical the U.S. aid Ukraine as it fights off Russia's invasion.

"This is about rebuilding the arsenal of democracy and demonstrating to our allies and adversaries alike that we're serious about exercising American strength," McConnell said. "American assistance with these efforts is not charity. It's an investment in cold, hard U.S. interests."

Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., tied the level of opposition facing McConnell to the growing number of the 49 Republicans in the Senate who have endorsed Trump. So far at least 31 have backed him.

"More are coming along to see that the old way of thinking is not working," Braun said.

Hardline Republicans have long been a major force in the House, repeatedly flirting with government shutdowns and near-default.

Just last week, dissent within the narrow 219-212 House Republican majority dealt Speaker Mike Johnson back-to-back humiliating defeats as the chamber failed to pass a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and a standalone Israel aid bill.

But lawmakers say activism among Senate Trump supporters, characterized by what members describe as "high-decibel" exchanges in closed-door meetings, has reached unprecedented levels.

McConnell and Trump have had a stormy relationship since the Senate leader recognized Joe Biden as winner the 2020 presidential election, despite Trump's false claims of widespread voter fraud. McConnell later accused Trump of provoking the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol after the Senate acquitted Trump of impeachment charges.

'Blood in the Water'

A small number of Republican hardliners have spoken openly about replacing McConnell, months after their House counterparts ousted Johnson's predecessor Kevin McCarthy in October after he used a bipartisan bill to keep the government funded.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, one of Trump's staunchest allies, told a news conference this week that it is time for McConnell to go. Another hardliner, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, has also called for a leadership change.

"You can score only so many points for the other team before losing your status as team captain," Lee said on the social platform X in response to a post by X CEO Elon Musk that said: "Time for Mitch to go."

But McConnell, who was overwhelmingly reelected leader by a 37-10 vote margin over Trump favorite Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., in 2022, still enjoys support from a supermajority of his conference, according to several Republicans.

"There's some people that feel like maybe there's some blood in the water and they're going to try to pounce on it," Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.

He added: "If anything, what this does is to sort of harden the people that support Mitch."

In recent weeks, the rising popularity of Trump's pugilistic and populist style had been clearly on display in the Senate, traditionally known for more order and decorum than the House.

Trump, who derisively refers to McConnell as an "old crow," has repeatedly called for his ouster. McConnell has responded that Old Crow is his favorite brand of bourbon.

It has been a profound shift, given the role McConnell played during his administration by helping Trump appoint three Supreme Court justices that cemented a 6-3 conservative majority.

But Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who often adopts hardline positions, said McConnell would probably continue as leader after this year's November election, should he choose to do so, even if Trump returns to the White House.

"They probably won't be having dinner or chit-chatting a lot," Rubio told reporters.

"But they'll find a lot of commonality on issues for the most part. I mean, they're probably going to agree on 90% of things, even though they aren't necessarily friendly."

Will explain something here about people in call center... They always eat and order food angels which is weird for me. Then,I feel conscious coz it is their main "trending act".

I told Yam ( Mhay-An Ranches ) the new sis but yesterday while teaching me on the situational scene on one of my clients, I told her I'm on a diet. I'm not plastics that I said even to Prixel that why you guys are making bad facial expression on me or you make face! But I said it in a nice way... I told Prixel,you know what supposed to be I'm already a manager in Cebu Pacific Air I also handled computer system stuff or we had a system tool as well but I was never a bad or bully old employee on the new hires... As well as some old good workmates there that were there earlier than me... My point we are just a month in Conduent angels... So, I knew we had the trainings in the classroom with Sho but some situational we didn't tackle coz we will only learn that by actual... I'm pointing out that in Cebu Pacific Air we didn't had a classroom lecture on Sita Gabriel that became a Skyport we learned everything on an actual. I never had a bad experienced on any of my x-workmates that became my friends or people who are there earlier than me... In Call Center people are weird, they are bashers and competitive in a bad way.

Then, I think I did calm the situation coz I said my heart contents on Yam ( from General Trias, Cavite as well ) and Prixel ( from Pasay).

What else? My TL is Krizzy, now I like her coz we are both a fanatic of "cuteness and cute stuff". She got a one daughter and one son and Krizzy is half-american but she told us married to an askal then separated now. MATURED PEOPLE LOVE CUTENESS AND CUTE STUFF...

UNCLE DD is as well plastics on me.... That's the negative of being an undergraduate. Even Uncle Jun... They have different character... In the family on the side of my biological mother the only college graduates are my brother next to me, Me and my Aunt Teresa who raised me here in their old house here. I'm not really happy being with them but I have no choice coz they are still my family or my blood related relatives. In a way, I feel envious on Mitch on having a good family,that's why she probably gave me this "simple battery"... I feel embarrass sometimes...

But on the good side of Uncle DD and Uncle Jun they are having a side lines to help us here on paying our bills in the house... But when it comes to point of view about life and about their character on me, we had have different ways of viewing life. Like I should still be pampered coz I had have windspin slash windblow that I should go back to being me even if I'm in call center. I'm not being arrogant but I know the way of living in the reality world, I know what is the right thing for each people. I graduated from De La Salle but Uncle Jun seems always putting me down.

I just hate them when they fully praise Chian or Chealsea who is presently working in baranggay but I want my half-sister to be active there in baranggay or to work there though she is an undergraduate but able to work in government office coz of power of George Eusebio. George Eusebio is her father in law which I hate most coz their power and fame are only on the side of biological mother.

Chian grew up with my biological mother meaning it is their positive points as uniting as a new blended family with George Eusebio. I hate them so much,until these days...

But I love the idea of Chian working in baranggay if in case we need something, there will be someone who is active in baranggay.

I don't like my family now but I hate people who got nice family but I know how to be professional on being a family member...

Like in my batch wave 2 in Conduent, I want them to give me a professional friendship and professional relationship like we need to link for the harmony and for unity for work and for having a decency of having a group or batchmates in Conduent.

I feel embarrass that I have an ugly family now but this is still my family and I need to be professional coz we still need to have a family. I feel jealous on people or men that like me! Who are having a good family then they will compare me? They will probably compare me on other women? I have complex... I have so many complex in me though I used to be spoiled. But now, we are having a financial tight budgeting. I feel bullshit! I hate commuting... I have complex!

We used to have a business and handled people... We used to have a "Karaoke Bar Club" somewhere in Makati... We earned millions before... I was pampered and spoiled.

I used to spend 10k in pesoses or more weekly... But now it will be a month... I feel self-pity... I used to have my derma schedule and I always visit my dentist.

Now, I need to go back to dentist and I can't afford to redo my teeth, my amalgam....It is a fixed amalgam... I spent thousand and thousands for it! Now, I don't have enough money to redo my teeth coz it's been decades2x...

I still need to visit dentist for the coffee stain and some stuff that needs to redo. I need to save money for it. I always brush my teeth coz of coffee stain.
