Is OC creation just a natural part of being in the Ace Attorney fandom? Because if I think about it, I’ve imagined A Character for every installment of the series.
The OG trilogy: My self insert who’s a crime scene photographer that works with Gumshoe and Edgeworth
Investigations 1: Jay Walker, retired detective turned car mechanic (Gumshoe’s mentor)
Investigations 2: (postgame) Meili Lin, future President of Zheng Fa (Agent Lang’s new boss, Late President Huang’s friend and fellow statesman)
AA 4: Erik van Zieks, prosecutor, piano player and descendant of Barok van Zieks (Klavier Gavin’s classmate, friend of Sebastian Debeste)
Great Ace Attorney Chronicles: Cosmo Morandi, young Italian stage magician and defendant in a case
Great Ace Attorney Chronicles: Hideki Jigoku, prosecutor in Japan’s Supreme Court of Judicature (eldest son of Seishiro Jigoku)

Examples of the nickname thing?
I'm assuming you're referring to the post about pet names in fanfiction?
I do have a few characters who are almost always referred to by the shortened version of their names - Zhi, LoLo, Bu, Su, etc. Not to mention Baatar Jr being referred to as Junior in canon.
But those aren't really pet names/love names, those are nicknames, like everyone calling my cousin Jimmy as a kid and then Jim as an adult when his name is James. Not a pet name. To me, a pet name and/or love name is exactly that, something that only very close friends or family call you out of affection, not everyone in your life.
In my headcanon Wu calls everyone darling - it's just his thing. That being said, he also sometimes refers to his children as precious or the like, and his kids and spouses can be called my love or dearest. Canonically speaking he had pet names for Mako, most of which referred to Mako's physique (ahem). Thankfully in my fic he has gone past referring to Mako as his big tough guy. Although he also has some bedroom names for Mako as well. But those are private. He has little private names as well - his granddaughter Star is Starshine, etc. Wu is big on pet/love names, and while that is a headcanon of mine I also think his canon pet names for Mako support it. He also sometimes calls Lin names like Harridan out of affection and she once called him Spindleshanks but made him cry, so she doesn't do that any more.
Su calls many people sweetie, including the Avatar (canon).
Baatar Sr canonically calls Su dear.
Baatar Jr/Opal/Wing also refer to their children as sweetie. (headcanon).
Wei has affectionately rude love names for 3 of his nieces - Skunk Cabbage, Weed Killer, Dirt Clod.
Bolin calls Opal Easy-Breezy (headcanon).
Bolin gets it shortened to Bo (canon), but Mako sometimes calls him Bro (canon), which is a pet name/love name, for sure.
LoLo has certain pet names for people - Butterfly was his pet name for Naoki and it stuck, her family all call her that, even into adulthood - Old Girl is his love name for Lin (anyone else who dared would die squashed by a rock) and His Nibs is what he calls Wu when Wu isn't around. He calls both Wu and Mako my boy and Qi my dear, and that's because he thinks of the three of them as his own (especially Qi).
Meili is called Fishy by her siblings and cousins. That's it, though. Not by the adults. And it's pretty much a childhood thing. I mean. Can you imagine calling adult Meili Fishy. I mean. Really. (Unless you are Sayuri, of course, but Sayuri enjoys being provocative.)
Button was the pet name Sozui gave Sayuri as a baby and it sticks. Family only, though. Nobody calls her that outside the family.
Nuo calls friends and family she likes dear - or, if she REALLY likes you, dearest. It should be Jai's first clue that Nuo's already sizing him up as a potential son-in-law when she refers to him as dearest the first time she meets him. (And in fact, Poppy does tell him it means her mother likes him, but he doesn't know Nuo and so does not get the importance of this.) (She also refers to Zu as dear when she first meets him because she takes one look at Sayuri's face staring at Zu and she's already like, oh lovely, wedding, hmmmm, nobility of course, I suppose Wu will want something traditional and naturally I will advise him, as I recall the boy's mother is a real pain in the ass but of course the paternal side will be a different story, yes, yes, I had better clean him up before Wu sees him and has a fit of the vapors, would you look at that spat coming halfway down his leg and what on earth has he done to his hair?)
Wing calls Nuo honey. I cannot imagine anyone else but Wu calling her any kind of pet/love name. And even Wu would be on probation about it.
I haven't gotten that far in the narrative, but Poppy and Jai will absolutely call each other the rudest names in the world out of affection. Because that's their relationship.
Huan calls Ikki Little Bird which was his name for her when she was just a girl. Nobody else calls her that. Baatar Jr tried it out once or twice but it didn't work for him.
Bumi II calls Ikki Typhoon.
Zip calls Sayuri Little Bit, which is a pet name from the neighborhood he and Qi are from. I haven't written much about the two of them, but Zip loves her, very much. He absolutely thinks of her as a niece and is devoted to her. (And later, when he's old, he will move into Zong's house so Sayuri can take care of him. In fact, Radiant and Star will know him very well and call him Uncle Zip. And Star's daughter, Zetian, will consider him one of her greatest influences.)
Lin would rather be caught dead then call people by anything that actually proved she felt affection for them. She uses nicknames, sure - LoLo is LoLo (except when he ticks her off, then he's either Lozan or Old Man) and she calls Su Su and Zhi Zhi, etc. But pet/love names? She tried it with Wu and made him cry so no fucking way. And this tells us something about Lin and how she wants people to perceive her, does it not?
The Hou-Tings refer to Su and Baatar as Granny and Grampy like their blood grandchildren do, and that is certainly a pet/love name for them. The Hou-Ting brood refer to Wu as Gumpa and Mako as Gumpy and Qi as Gumma, and those names came from little Linyi, the eldest of the grandchildren.
And a note on names given out of respect:
Many of the adults in my fic are referred to as Auntie and Uncle. If it is Auntie (name) and Uncle (name) then it means family. If, however, it is (name) Auntie and (name) Uncle, then it is a term of respect for an elder. For example, Baatar Jr refers to the older women in Baidu Village as Jinpa Auntie and Pasang Auntie, which is him being respectful. (Huan would do the same, but he rarely refers to people by any names at all.) But Baatar's kids will call Bora Auntie Bora, which means she's considered family. One of my university roommates (and very good friend) was first generation Chinese-American and I called her parents (name) Auntie and (name) Uncle (or just Auntie and Uncle) rather than just their first names or Mr. and Mrs. Chan because she informed me of the custom. I've kept that in my fic, although it is used in the ATLA universe as well (see: Auntie Wu the fortune teller). Zu also refers to Lin and LoLo as Grandmother and Grandfather out of respect, for sure. I don't think he could imagine calling them anything else, and he would refer to Su and Baatar as the same.

trick or treat!!! and a second happy birthday, because i saw you got books and wooooooo 🦉🎃🍭🧡
Yeah! And I also got some from thrift books a few days ago. I'll have to share those, too.
🍬! This conversation I was thinking about recently:
Wei Wuxian caught Lin Meili looking at him, a fondness on her face that he understood all too well. “Family,” he offered with a sigh. “They’re the cruelest.”
Lin Meili’s face froze and Wei Wuxian could’ve bitten his tongue off for being so insensitive. But then she just echoed his sigh and the fondness returned. “He looks up to you.”
“I doubt it.” Wei Wuxian couldn’t think why Jin Ling would ever look up to the uncle that had basically caused him to lose a great portion of his family. “I haven’t done anything good for him.”
“You are alive,” Lin Meili said.
Wei Wuxian eyed the children to make sure nothing bad had happened. “How is that a good thing for him?”
“You’re family.” She said it so simply, like it was extremely obvious. “He lost an uncle. He gained an uncle. A much better one. That is a good thing.”
“Somehow you must not have heard all the bad things said about me.”
“I’ve heard them all twice. But I’ll make my own judgments.”
Oh, and before you go- trick! I want Antonio content, or you don't get to keep your candy.

A messy Grayson family tree because all the people are hard to keep up with so I decided to lay it out to remember who’s who.
*Also technically Karla, Richard, and John on the left are only in young justice but I’ve seen them used in fan fictions alot so I just put them on if you want them included.*

I don't think Melinda's actually a criminal. For all we know, she could be a great help to Dick in future.
Thanks to Tom Taylor for appreciating Dick's Romani side in a positive way

the wikia writers are trying so hard god bles but I honestly doubt whoever wrote it put that much deep thought into it and to me, the name seems pretty based off Mandarin lmao... with her given name Meili (honestly. probably just 美丽) and Lin as her surname. Or idk, maybe I'm wrong and *checks* oh Tom Taylor. Yeah I kinda think maybe they were imagining her name as 美丽 and 林 lmao....

Heaven Has A Road - Original Characters
While the story is wholly about Xiao Xingchen, Xue Yang and Song Lan, and kept as close to canon-compliant as possible after the original divergence setting everything in motion, the disaster trio do occasionally run into a number of npcs along the way.
Here is a neat little compilation of the named extras in Heaven Has A Road, in case the text refers back to a name you’ve forgotten, or you want to read an extra tidbit or two about all the people SXX have happened to!
Ai Shenxu – the fangzhang (abbot) of the Daoist temple Yanxia Guan. A wise and mischievous old daoshi who manages to manipulate Xue Yang into meditation and spiritual growth, much to the latter's chagrin. He tells Xiao Xingchen a story of a young troublemaker who came to the temple to take advantage of the kindness of the daoshi there, but who got lulled into that peaceful life, and is still there all these years later to turn other young troublemakers' heads in the right direction.
A-Lei – a young disciple of the doctor-wives in Tanzhou.
Gao Lin – a girl of Muaishan, whose father was driven insane by the mist spirits. She tells the daoshi her story, to try to help Xiao Xingchen figure out what was done to him while he was spirited away.
Madam Hu – the old woman in charge of the inn of Aijian in Muaishan. She's vastly superstitious and terrified of all things to do with gentry, cultivators and the unnatural... But she does grow to care a lot about the strange travelers under her roof, despite her fears.
Old Hu – the innkeeper of Aijian in Muaishan. Xue Yang and Song Lan first met him when searching for Xiao Xingchen, and he set them on their way to find the spirits' lair. He and his wife later welcomed the traveling trio to stay at their inn to recuperate after fighting and vanquishing the mist spirits.
Old Luo – an old daoshi at Baixue, remembered by Tian Hao and Song Lan with a mix of fondness and trepidation. A rather fearsome teacher who took pleasure in punishing any miss-stepping pupils with the chore of sweeping the courtyard before dawn. He's mentioned by the Yanxia daoshi as a master of acupuncture techniques. In Muaishan, Song Lan uses spiritual pressure point techniques to weave Xue Yang's meridians back together, saying Xue Yang killed the man who once taught them to him.
Qian Feng – jianyuan of the Daoist temple Yanxia Guan. He’s the temple’s second in command, responsible for Night Hunts and handling the everyday affairs of the temple and the daoshi living there. Tian Hao says he's a strong cultivator – especially when it comes to the strength of fingers holding onto coin...
Tian Hao – a daoshi of Yanxia Guan. He studied as a guest cultivator at Baixue Ge for a year in his youth, and is one of the few besides Song Lan who personally remembers the people there. He calls Song Lan his shidi and gives him advice and support, and they made a promise to stay in touch through correspondence.
Wang Haifeng – a young cultivator who used demonic cultivation to raise corpses for him and his friends to fight to gain heroic reputation. Xue Yang mentally dubbed him ”unfortunate front teeth”. He showed quite great interest in Xue Yang's skills and knowledge, though he was very cowed by the telling-off they all received by Song Lan once he learned the truth. He is one of the last survivors of the Yingchuan Wang clan, which rose to prominence under the Wen thanks to Wang Lingjiao's involvement with Wen Chao.
Wang Meili – one of the elderly doctors in Tanzhou, who was born to the Yingchaun Wang clan but left to study medicine with the Dafan Wen. There she met her life partner, Wu Lian, and the two of them eventually set out as wandering cultivators to offer their gifts of healing to those in need, before finally settling down in Tanzou. She has a stern and brusque demeanour, but is a highly skilled doctor and a very loving wife.
Wang Rouqing - the ghostly widow of Wangzhuang, and Wang Haifeng’s mother. She stopped talking after the death of her husband and the massacre of her in-laws during Sunshot, and only found peace after Xue Yang helped confirm her husband’s spirit had truly moved on.
Wu Lian – one of the elderly doctors in Tanzhou. She was once a guest-disciple with the Dafan Wen, where she first met her companion Wang Meili. Together they set out as wandering cultivators upon finishing their training, to offer healing and care to those needing, and finally settled down in Tanzhou. Mild-mannered and sweet, she likes telling stories and making her stern wife smile.
Zhao Yicheng – one of the young cultivators who fought the undead at the old plague graveyard. Designated ”short boy” by Xue Yang, he was the leader of the gang, and the brains behind his and his friend Wang Haifeng's plan to use demonic cultivation to raise monsters for them to fight in order to gain glory and a good reputation. He and his cousin Zhao Yijun are from the Zhao clan, which Wen Zhuliu once belonged to before getting adopted into the Wen family.
Zhao Yijun – one of the young cultivators who fought the undead at the plague graveyard. Xue Yang called him ”the taller Zhao” or ”compass boy.” Happily unaware of his cousin's and friend's plan to raise the dead, he was trying to track fierce corpses using one of the older models of spirit compass - which strangely started malfunctioning once Song Lan joined the Night Hunt... He and his cousin Zhao Yicheng are from the Zhao clan, which Wen Zhuliu once belonged to before getting adopted into the Wen family.

To potentially be added to as the story progresses.

Let’s go crazy on live - Episode 3
Tumblr media
Last episode, Lin An An decided to accept You Yuan Le’s offer and become a live streamer. However, even though she got a make-over, she’s still the same shy girl inside and her first stream goes pretty bad as she can’t speak at all. How will she cope with her failure and how is she going to overcome her shyness?
Lin An An is pretty bummed about how she messed up her first live. However, she’s lucky to have Meili and Luosha to cheer on her again while they eat the three of them together.Right after that, Yuan Le comes to An An’s workplace to try out that experiment about complimenting a girl for 50 days which induces Meili to think they are in a relationship. But right after she leaves, she sees a post of Cindy at dinner and there’s definitely proof that she was eating with Yuan Le. Meili says he’s a cheater, but An An, even though she kind of looks depressed about it, says their are not in a relationship to begin with.
Yuan Le goes back to Ren Hao’s house and explains to him his plan of bringing positivity in the company. He wants everyone to praise each other instead of finding each other’s weaknesses. He calls it, the Sun project. Ren Hao is like... sorry but I can’t do that. And Yuan Le tries to train him to do it. And Renhao can only leave before being traumatized. Right the next morning, it’s turn for the rest of the employees to practice to give compliments and it seems than none of them is really able to do so.
Early morning, Yuan Le sends people to dress An An but she’s upset about it and wants him to take the clothes back. He doesn’t want to and ends up grabbing her, throwing her in his beautiful red car (I just love a red car, I don’t care the brand or whatever, I know nothing about that, but reeeeed) and he takes her away. She thinks he’s angry so she keeps apologizing to him and he feeds her candy not to hear her apologize anymore.
It’s Luosha’s first stream and she is wearing some clothes that... like it’s straps that she can untie and she ends up untying the wrong one when she receives an emperor’s gift from Tank. Ren Hao stops the stream and Luosha has to hide her bust if she doesn’t want her contract with Lang Direct to end.
Yuan Le brought Lin An An to the office. While they are taking the elevator, there are a lot of people and they end up being squeezed together at the end of the elevator. And then there’s this sweet moment when he grabs her by the waist and pulls her closer by making her step on his feet. One thing you must know about You Yuan Le is that his face always ends up being close to the face of others. He takes her in his office and makes her write down on a sheet of paper her strengths and weaknesses. But then she can only come up with one strength and lots of weaknesses. At the same time, Princess Leia is making a stream and some haters send really harsh comments to her. She feels really down when the stream, but Yuan Le cheers her up. And seeing how Leia is still going strong even when people say hateful things to her, An An wants to try again streaming, but Yuan Le says no to her. Not until she figured out as many strengths that there weaknesses on her list. And meanwhile, she will come as a trainee to the office and will observe how the other streamers do, what are their strengths, what are their weaknesses. All the other workers are wondering how come Yuan Le wants so much to keep An An around, are they dating? But she says she doesn’t know why.
An An already starts to study the habits of the streamers. You Yuan Le takes her out for dinner in a very chic restaurant, which makes An An uncomfortable (plus the fact she’s still wearing her pyjamas). But he tells it’s normal that she feels she doesn’t belong when it’s the first time she comes here. But when it’s been many times, then she would feel more comfortable. Then he shows herself in the window and tells her to look how pretty she is, to take the time and appreciate herself. He teaches her to say thank you when people compliment her instead of trying to decline. It was a very beautiful moment until Cindy barges in, really angry that he brought someone else to the restaurant. She pours water on An An and Cindy’s friend starts filming when Yuan Le tries to scold her. So he just takes An An away. An An tries to convince him to leave her and go calm down Cindy, she’s worried it would have a bad impact on the company. But he won’t go back, if she remains wet, she could catch a cold, she should also worry about herself. Well he doesn’t need to go back, Cindy comes and won’t let An An get in the car. Yuan Le gets unhappy, puts An An in the car tells her that if she has to be mad at someone, it has to be at him. So he takes a cup of coffee and tells her to spill it at him if it makes her happier. In the end, she doesn’t do it and leaves.
Next morning, it’s a new, more confidant An An going to work, everybody is so surprised!
Also, there is a new event in the company, they are going to make a contest to help their less famous streamers get more recognition. The contest excludes Cindy. Luosha gets in trouble again for exposing her breasts from the sides which makes Ren Hao pretty angry.
An An gets praised for the notes she takes on other people.

I have a few AUs, plot bunnies and OCs related to various parts of the Ace Attorney series but not the time or energy to share them in detail, yet. But someday I might ramble extensively about...
- Meili Lin, Zheng Fa's Secretary of Foreign Affairs who is running to be the next President of Zheng Fa. She is a rare Reasonable Authority Figure in the Ace Attorney verse
- Klaus Gavin, uncle to Klavier and Kristoph Gavin, a prosecutor and songwriter who believes duty and family are equally important
- Erik van Zieks, descended from Barok van Zieks, a prosecutor and pianist who went to law school with Klavier and has a strong sense of justice
- Jay Walker, a retired detective turned auto mechanic who taught Gumshoe everything he knows about gadgets
Each of my OCs ties to a specific fan case/AU I thought up and I really want to share these scenarios with y'all when I get the chance.
Ace Attorney has inspired me and it feels great to have the creative juices flowing!
And I have a feeling there will be more ideas on the horizon as I play through the series and for my thoughts on it.

wait what do you mean about yumi getting married to wu????
Soooooooooo.
I've written before about Water Tribe marriages; how they differed between the North and South (and how the North brought their customs with them when they immigrated south - the engagement necklace, for example). What I wrote was actually based on actual marriage practices among certain Inuit tribes.
In my Southern Water Tribe headcanon the traditional way to get married was the man made a woman a boat (to show her family that he was able to support her and a family) and the woman had a baby (to show that she could). That was it. Boat and baby. They were married. (Same-sex couples compromised/did work arounds.) There were no actual wedding ceremonies as such and certainly no dowries, like in the Earth Kingdom. Boat and baby, bada-bing, you are now married. (In this practice, Kya and Hakoda would have been considered married after Sokka was born.)
(This is why Tupilek fixes up and then gives Meili the boat. Although they do get married before Linyi is born, because Meili hasn't been raised as Water Tribe. Although I will say that Tupilek's family won't consider them real deal fully actually married until Linyi's birth, despite attending the full ass Wu-given shindig wedding ceremony in Republic City.)
Yumi - who as you might recall, has only had sex once with a man, where she and the man in question were both pretty drunk and both of them thought they'd give having sex with the opposite sex a whirl - has no expectation of getting pregnant ever and does not want to raise a child. She's quite firm on this. The thing is, though, is that she actually decides to continue the pregnancy once she realizes she is pregnant - which is, for her maternal Water Tribe family, more than a little confusing, since this would mean on her part that she was married to Meili's birth father? (Who, as you might also recall - or perhaps not since you don't have this all in your head the way I do - is her oldest sister Tanka's first mate on her ship, and who is Southern Water Tribe himself.)
Yumi knows she could give the baby to her next oldest sister, who has a family on Kyoshi Island, to raise. Which would pretty much negate the whole marriage thing. Instead, she chooses to give the baby to Wu; in essence, doing her part to marry him in her mother's culture. (Wu of course, does not provide her with a boat. He does provide her with the building and property for her dojo, although the only other person besides Yumi who knows for sure that he bought it for her is Nuo, because Nuo did all the paperwork. Others suspect, however, or just take it as a given.) Even though it isn't technically a boat, Wu has actually provided her with the means to support herself, which is kind of fulfilling the marriage thing, right? And then Yumi gives him a baby.
Now as I said, Korra wholly and completely gets the cultural - and even legal - ramifications of this. Wu also gets it because Wu knows about shit like marriage customs in other countries because that's what you raise a king to know. Nobody else really does because, you know, what the hell do they know about what the Southern Water Tribe does? And Korra and Asami had an actual wedding down there (which was a nod to her Northern heritage through her father more than anything else) so Mako, for example, would just assume that's how it would be done. He, like Lin, like Qi, like everyone else just thinks that Yumi gave them Meili because she thought Wu and Mako would do a good job raising her. Which is partly true! Yumi does think that! But it's not the entire truth, not by a longshot.
Yumi's youngest sister, Iskani - who is the healer that was Katara's last student, the one who is running the healing school when Meili attends it - DOES know the significance and she's angry that Yumi and Wu won't acknowledge it because she feels it's detrimental towards Meili. Who is her niece. (She's not actually pissed at Meili, but Yumi ignores her and she doesn't know Wu, so she takes it out on Meili. But as we all know, Meili doesn't put up with anybody's bullshit.) She wants Meili to know the truth and Yumi has forbidden her to say anything (and her parents and other sisters have told her to mind her business, despite them thinking that well, guess our Yumi is another one of the Earth King's wives, who would have thought?).
Yumi and Wu have zero interest in each other sexually or romantically, but this is an aspect of their relationship that means it is much, much deeper and intimate than just about anybody else understands. (Nuo understands. She was there.) There's a reason why Yumi trains Qi to protect Wu the way she would. And if I ever wrote that stupid Royalist story it would be in that, for sure.
