Wrt the Chuggaaconroy situation, I'd like to also point out that LadyEmily herself is Autistic; which honestly, makes this situation even worse because Autistic women and enbys are 9 out of ten times more likely to face sexual harassment than our neurotypical peers.

Some things I'd like to talk about with this:

That Emily "communicated this to him privately a few months ago" leads me to believe they had a private conversation before where Emily told Chugga on explicit terms that the shoe talk had made her uncomfortable.

But then why drop it all on Twitter? In a dishonest way too that cut out critical parts of these interactions?

Emily has honestly bled out my benefit of the doubt at this point, due to her lack of transparency and that if Chugga's words are to be believed this was resolved in private but she still had a chip on her shoulder about it.

He also says that he's said and done similar things in the past to and with other friends (assuming this means the shoe rp stuff). Some people might try to connect this to the "other harassed women" Emily brought up but 1. Those women haven't come forward and corroborated Emily, even through anonymous means, and 2. Chugga's words are unclear if the friends he did eventually drift away from were for reasons relating to his shoe interest.

My take on the Chuggaaconroy situation

A few days ago, LadyEmily, a creator who works as an writer for Sarah Z., spoke out about her negative experiences with Emile, known online as Chuggaaconroy.

I have been a fan of Emile’s content for almost as long as I’ve watched YouTube. Emile’s channel was the first I’ve ever subscribed to, back in 2008 when I was 6 years old. Today, following MasaeAnela’s account, I am unsubscribing from Chuggaaconroy- and I implore you to do the same.

When Lady Emily’s account first came out, I was mostly in disbelief. There was a very clear dissonance between the Emile in the messages shown, and the Emile I know from the videos. However, I didn’t deny that these allegations could very well be real.

I’ve watched this guy’s content for over a decade now, but I cannot claim to know him personally. His online persona being nice doesn’t mean his actual self is without fault. What I didn’t really buy in Emily’s statement was the accusations that this happened to more people than just her.

Mostly because she didn’t provide any proof of the sort, nor was any other account of this type of behavior from Emile, public as of yet. So when MasaeAnela, a persona who’s been associated with Emile for years now, claims the same things happened to her- that’s when I decided it was over.

Why did Masae decide to speak out now? It was simply because Chuggaaconroy has been a recognizable YouTube figure for years, and has amassed a very loyal following. Going against Emile is not a wise decision, not because his follower base is stupid or immature, like the fanbase of say, DreamWasTaken. It’s moreso that his fanbase spans a very wide range of people, and has been amassed for so long. People are attached to Chugga because he was a known figure for well over a decade of YouTube.

This is why #WeAreWithChuggaaconroy was trending at one point, and likely the reason why it took Masae and so many others such a long time to speak out, until now.

Masae opened the door, and now multiplie accounts of Chugga’s negative behavior are being released. I’ve been subscribed to Chugga for 15 years, but now I see how much fame changed the man. As someone who subscribed to Emile’s channel because of his positivity and passion towards a topic I was interested in, as someone who tried games merely based on his recommendations, and as someone who has Emile to thank for my current interests - I am unsubscribing from Chuggaaconroy, and I implore you to do the same.

Breaking the social media hiatus to say how disheartening the whole chuggaaconroy situation. Not for his sake, because fuck him, but for the people he abused that had to face abuse from people who formed a paradoxical relationship with chuggaaconroy to the extent that they will excuse literally anything he does. I can't even feel that sympathetic with them because I was in a similar situation of liking his content as a kid who liked seeing another autistic creator talk about my interests, but that didn't develop into me forming a one-sided relationship where I assumed I knew things about him. I understood he carefully manufactured a specific personality for presenting via social media, as all creators do. As such, it wasn't impossible for to think he did the awful things he did because I knew I didn't actually know him. People are continuing to act like he's not responsible for what he did, though, even after multiple different people come out with evidence about what's he's been doing over the course of over a decade, and with women and girls as young as 15. That's only the people we know about, too. The worst factor to me is that those stories were corroborated by several people after the initial remarks of Lady Emily, who spoke up because she saw that the way people were idolizing him was the reason he was able to get away with what he was doing for so long. People acted like he was so positive and wholesome, and therefore let him get away with things that were the opposite. It's doubly awful that people then accused her of trying to take him down specifically because of his autism, trying to make this some sort of anti-ableist crusade when she is also autistic, and therefore fully aware that his autism was not an excuse for his behavior. Still, even as her stories have been corroborated by, again, MULTIPLE people, there are still those who continue to act like that fact isn't relevant. They'll cop to the fact that he abused those other people, but then still dismiss and dehumanize Lady Emily. That's really ironic considering that, in masaeanela's recount of her experience, she mentioned not speaking up about the issues prior because she didn't want to rock the boat and put herself at the mercy of chuggaaconroy's fans attacking her. It's sad how understandable that assumption ended up being. Even when you come out about an experience you faced at the hands of a popular YouTuber, one corroborated by multiple other women, you can still be called a liar, a bitch, a sadist, and so much worse. We all know why, too. The fact that an autistic trans woman is getting so much more scrutiny than other women who have spoken up about this is honestly very painful to see as someone who is trans, autistic, and who has experienced this same abuse.

Please understand what your favorite YouTubers are; strangers. You do not know them, and they do not know you. You are only ever seeing a carefully maintained facade they chose to present to an audience via scripts and editing. If you can't hold them accountable for the bad things they did, how can you expect other people to hold everyday nobodies accountable too

Anyway, the latest hobby here is 'watching video essays by trans authors particularly but not exclusively if they have an essay on masculinity or gender and society'.

There's been an update with the Lady Emily/Emile situation. Her screenshots show that she consented to the foot rp. From what I've picked up she started getting uncomfortable and stopped talking to him, which he kept messaging her asking if everything was okay. Then after he stopped for quite some time she made that tweet calling him out while he was heading out to a convention.

SHE CONSENTED AND THEN ACCUSED HIM OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT??? DUDE. WHAT??? DUDE!!!! HOW can ANYONE be on her side now? HOW?? at this point it's rabid hatred for a neurodivergent man, which is unfortunately very common nowadays. :/
