reader appearing in Game of Thrones era is gonna be like a hallelujah for the guys that didn't get her last time. it's like their second chance. And the youngins too, they've heard so much about Reader and they've always assumed that it would take another hundred years for her to show up but nope. she's her with her baby (theon).

she's the one who raises Theon in Winterfell. Im pretty sure that guy had pride and self-worth/self-esteem issues in the OG series. Well reader's here and she looks at those in the eye and just says "No".

Man, her time at Winterfell's gonna be awkward as hell— Like Ned was pretty chill back in the day, but Lyanna's a pretty sure subject and Ned used to have a little puppy crush on the reader so interacting with Cat is um.... yeah awkward. Reader WISHES she were in Dorne instead.

(IN THIS AU ELIA AND HER KIDS NEVER DIED SHE'S SAFE, HAPPY AND LOVED WITH HER FAMILY IN DORNE)

The real chaos starts when the Robert and his fam go to Winterfell after Jon Arryn's death tho. Bobby B didn't marry Cersei cuz Lyanna's still kickin but the psych damage she went through in the Rebellion makes her into someone like Cersei. Reader's not having a good time, she's like: "i should've taken Theon and jumped under the waves while I still could" BUT SHE PERSEVERES IT'S FOR THEON OF COURSE SHE DOES. Reader's going through her Mom/Big Sister arc this Era and it gives her strength she never had previously

Actually, as much as it would be awkward, it's not, because is not the only one who's got a crush on the girl...Catelyn does too 😌

Now to the story

15 years had passed since the Rebellion ended and Robert Baratheon was named King of the 7 Kingdoms.

The Demigoddess since then, returned to the Iron Islands to stay away from everything, but she still wanted to be on Land. Her father allowed if she remained with the Greyjoys and the ironborn. She would also exchange letters with an old friend from Dorne, Elia Martell, who was hostage with the pearl back at the rebellion.

She kept her promise for 6 years, when the Greyjoy's rebellion happened and Theon Greyjoy was taken as hostage by the Starks, the princess went after him.

The pearl saw the young boy as her own child, and couldn't leave him alone in foreigner lands. Even if she knew that it meant to go against her father.

So, to keep everyone from committing war for her another time, she convinced Ned Stark to keep her away from prying eyes and in exchange she would be responsible for Theon. Ned reluctantly accepted, for he and his wife both had feelings for Sea princess and his sister, who was now Queen, hated her.

The Demigoddess spended the next few years taking care of not just Theon, but also all the other kids in Winterfell, she had a heart for all of them, without exception.

But the true problem was when Robert discovered that his once beloved was residing in Winterfell, far away from her father, and Ned never told him.

That angered the man, who was married to a cheap version of the real deal that the Demigoddess was, he immediately went to visit Winterfell.

The Starks immediately knew that she needed to be hidden before Robert arrived.

Twitter nearly packed it in last night, so transcribing a thread of mine from this year I liked here for posterity, with minor edits and a bit of reformatting:

A thread on how Superman's development over the decades inadvertently mirrors stages of human development, because even though I took 'Superman guy' out of my bio to avoid pigeonholing myself if I don't do this sort of thing occasionally I will explode.

Golden Age is simple - he's a newborn. The world's a hazy outline, and the big baby is destructively tantruming against everything Wrong in it.

He doesn't even have the object permanence to get that someone doesn't become a new person when they put on glasses!

By the Silver Age as a kid he's a little more cognizant. He's got friends and recognizes family, it feels like he's all-powerful and should be able to easily have whatever he wants yet at the same time he's constantly powerless, undermined, and under assault by the mean 'ol world.

(He's also kind of a little shit who thinks in black and white terms of right-and-wrong but delights in his ability to find 'loopholes' around the rules, and everyone generally indulges him.)

Bronze is the awkward teen years, wracked by ennui,

self-doubt,

and a soaring sense of potential and self-importance.

While more mature and capable of great insight, he's blissfully blind to how deeply, deeply stupid his world still frequently is.

Then the Byrne/Triangle years - he's grown-up, buttoned-up, a movie star now and putting on a professional front without his neuroses so blatantly on display.

He's even trying for something like an adult relationship after vacillating between 'I can't be tied down' and 'girls are icky'

He is however also helplessly getting his ass kicked or otherwise humiliated by the powers that be now on a semi-regular basis, because this is the Real World, Son!

In the 2000s and 2010s you start to get Superman as father - allegorically at first in starting to be treated as such by the rest of the 'superhero community', with Cir-El, Kon-El being revealed as his clone/kid/brother/whatever, Chris Kent, and culminating in Jon Kent.

This era's naturally bookended by Manchester Black telling him that he's a fuddy-duddy stick in the mud dweeb who's out of touch with The Kids.

(As pointed out by @charlottefinn the New 52 at least for the present-day stuff is in this context basically his midlife crisis - or perhaps midlife Crisis - where he leaves his wife and awkwardly dates around, gets a shiny new wardrobe, and generally acts like he's 20 again.)

(Prior to recent events, we were) entering the full-on middle aged era of Superman where he's slowing down if still very active,

the kid's out of the house,

and with so many years behind him he's reassessing.

(And even aside from a strategy however sensible in context of 'leaves Earth to hang out with a bunch of cool young people and get back to his alien-fighting dictator-toppling glory days', lest you think that midlife crisis is fully over:)

Like a lot of Superman - like a lot of any character that exists on this sort of broad scale - this definitely wasn't deliberate, but lines up neatly and lends a certain weight. Following to the logical conclusion, we can expect this Jon and Clark in 30 more years:

I googled 'Old Man Superman' to get that last cover since to my surprise I didn't already have it saved and found this extremely cool design by Giannis Milonogiannis and Ladon Alex, so here's your reward for making it to the end.

thank you for asking this i LOVE talking about my insane shit. ok its super self indulgent be warned and idk how to talk about it because its a mess and extremely disorganised but ill try:

ok backstory. the greyjoys are a mafioso crime family but not in a sexy way in a gross evil way. most of them got caught and locked up when theon was twelve-ish and while asha was emancipated and could look after herself, theon was baby and could not. Barbrey The Lawyer basically thought it would be really funny to dump this freak girlson on the starks as personal revenge and thats how the starks ended up fostering theon. then when theon was like... 19? 20? he had a #mental #breakdown and ran away from winterfell and got caught up with ramsay. barbrey ended up getting him out due to personal beef with ramsay's dad and cos domeric found out and was like What the fuck,. now theon is like 22/23 unemployed but does odd jobs and makes music and pretends he isnt fucked up in the brain

robb is a footballer (football as in european football aka soccer. maybe rugby?). anywa i dont know anything about football. but he does! hes a prodigy hes gonna Go Big and Bring Home Da Gold. robb was like 15/16/17 idk when theon was in his Rough Crowd Era and it fucked him up cos thats his girlfriendbrotherworstie!! now theon is back and they have a very weird very codependant on/off relationship. robb is like 19/20ish

jeyne is a nice girl :) she wants to be a nurse :) she has mommy issues :) after graduating high school she goes on a gap year with her brother and sister and they tour westeros and she meets a cute guy named robb in the riverlands and has a whirlwind one-week holiday romance with him :) but uh oh! guess who has super sperm and got his fling preggers!! robb the idiot :) now she's pregnant and has confirmed all the horrible things her mother says about her :) she has religious issues! she wants to be a mother! she wants to be a An Independent Woman! she doesn't want to leave home! she wants too much and all of it is contradictory! she's not yet 19! she's having the worst year of her life made worse by the father of her child's sort-of boyfriend who sucks but also are they becoming friends?? what???

bonus: asha is sort of dating qarl and tris theyre kinda polycule vibes. she'll introduce tris as her queer platonic squish because she thinks its funny when he does the hide-the-pain-harold face. jon joined the military right out of high school. the only greyjoy asset the state didnt seize is aeron's sex toy shop he used to launder money but they couldnt prove it (he converted it into a restaurant that has non-discriminatory hiring practices for former convicts but the downside is he will proselytise to them.)

How are you? I hope you’re doing good! Me? Not so much after reading part 3 😭

My thoughts:

I wasn’t expecting us to finally get the fight from that night, so I was NOT prepared. This - When Azzi’s 18, Paige says those words, ones that sound a lot like giving up, and teaches Azzi that sometimes in life, even the people you thought would never make you feel this way, are the ones who'll break you the most – this broke me babe, and to think Azzi still held on despite everything. Like I know Paige was just hurting but maybe she does deserve the suffering (a little bit) after all.

The entire summer scene was fucking elite. Poor Katie and Tim, they just wanted a. nice. family. dinner!! And instead they had to sit through their daughter’s gay ass drama lmao, #freeKatieandTim

The bros standing ten toes down for Pazzi ✊ Jon and José not even trying sent me, like no sorry, P is our sister-in-law but we appreciate you dropping by. AND DREW, our MVP - Drew had looked over to Azzi then, his eyes wide and accusing, “you can’t be Azzi’s girlfriend.” – little man was a bit traumatised, like sorry pookie who is this girl and why is she claiming to be something she can’t possibly be? He’s the GOAT fr, I know when he and P got back home, he scolded tf outta her and it went something like- Drew: “Why are you letting Azzi be other people’s girlfriend?? That’s OUR pookie.” P: “I know, I’m trying bro!”. Drew: “Well try harder!!” *stomps away*.

Then the Cayman Islands - UCLA and UConn to each other: 😡😤🔪🤬🖕👿 while Azzi and Paige: 🥰😍🫂🤩💗👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 and then there’s probably Carol like: 😩 (she’s so over all this)

And then the ending! I’m guessing P left without saying goodbye because she probably saw the text from Zoe and once again was promptly reminded of their reality? 🥺

Speaking of Zoe, oh girl I’m so sorry, you deserve better – like damn, she just wanted to share some fucking pizza!!

Also, jealous Azzi making an appearance! (I’m such a shameful sucker for the jealous Paige and Azzi trope, I’m sorry!)

Oh and one final thing on part 3 – babe I know you said writing **** was taking years off your life, but we really appreciate your sacrifice because it was absolute 🔥🔥

What’s next (potentially)?

Oh man where to from here huh… I feel like Paige is eventually gonna get to the point where she's like "choose me, pick me", only to realise that Azzi just can’t do it cause she can't trust her with her heart, and I know it's gonna hurt bad. And even though Paige needs and wants more, she’ll also take whatever she can get even if it’s slowly killing her, because it’s Azzi and she’d rather have a little bit of her than none at all 😔

Also, a tension-filled game between them in the final 4 coming up maybe??

That part where Katie shoots Azzi a look of disappointment – I wonder if momma Fudd will ever call out Azzi over whatever’s happening between her and Paige and poor Zoe?

Either way, something tells me we’ve still got a lot of angst coming our way, and look as much as I want our babies to finally just get their shit together, I just can’t say no to more angst you know, I’m just a girl. 🤷‍♀️

Oh and this part - she’s even less sure about how she’d survived that one year where they’d practically lived in each other’s skins – is this something (I'm guessing this is their covid era?) we go into a bit more?? I do love all the allusions/references to how long they’ve always been something more and the blurring of the lines but never fully crossing it obviously until that fateful summer of 2022. I guess it does explain somewhat, though, why Paige felt so betrayed about Azzi not choosing her (UConn) because baby girl probably thought “ok once we’re both at UConn, we can finally be together 😌” - like her dream/vision of them playing together and also being together got ripped away from her ❤️‍🩹

As always, bestie, thank you for existing, thank you for your talent and for being so generous in sharing it with us. You outdo yourself every. fucking. time. 💐

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IT WAS EVERYTHING I NEEDED AND MORE‼️ first off, leo talking to him and being so real but also like calling him out like that??? while still being super supportive??? and the way he described wen was so accurate and so him-coded??? and then AHHHHH i’ve ALWAYS loved vin and bell’s friendship, i’ve genuinely always thought it was super adorable and i wanted more of them, so this fic was gold 🤭 a trope that ALWAYS gets me is when someone is ANGRY at someone they love and ofc being bitchy and sassy until they realise said someone is very much Unwell (it’s especially good if they’re so sick that they’re really out of it), and when they realise how sick they are they IMMEDIATELY switch from mad to concerned + caretaker mode!!!! so yeah you can imagine this whole fic had me on my knees 🤭 obsessed w how protective of luke bell is, and how protective of vin wen is, but also how both girls just jumped straight into action when he was clearly not feeling good <333 and then vin realising wen was using her dr. voice, and then the pure ANGST at the end when he sobs and they just hug and the “god i’m gonna fucking miss you” SOB SOB SOB SOB 😭😭😭🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

bell sick and luke taking care of her was also AMAZINGGGG🫶🏽 i always love when my girls get whumped <3333 omg and AHHHH luke and vin finally talking abt shtuff🥹 the “nothing to forgive” 😭 luke knowing he’ll get sick AND holding him closer??? GOSH THE BROTP MAN !!!!!

and oh my goodness i just read the most recent fic with the new OC!!!! this is so exciting and cool and i love his vibes ahhhh <3 i love how nonchalant max seems abt shtuff and im so so excited to see where things go!! i hope vin and him become friends but also i feel like there’s gonna be some tension and weird banter going on between them at least at first hehehe

<3 <3 <3 YES i haven't talked about booster in a while but he is my bestie. we are holding hands at panera.

A comic you'd recommend to get to know this character: So, possibly controversial, but Booster Gold (2007). What's appealing about Booster to me is the time travel, and I don't think any other series hits that in the same way. On the other hand... I also love his supporting cast here, and while I like the original series too, I think this one will always be my favorite.

A comic you would NEVER recommend reading for this character: Ugh. Fucking Tom King. "The Gift." While it's technically a Batman story, it's by far one of the worst Booster stories I've ever read.

A comic you would recommend reading only with the footnotes (aka after reading a bunch of other stuff): Ironically, Booster Gold (2007) again. I do think this series hits differently before and after you've read a bunch of other comics. It's special to me in both ways. I'd also recommend "Booster Shot" from Action Comics only after you get to ALL of his Postcrisis appearances (and half a solid grasp of the New 52/Rebirth, though not Booster himself necessarily). I just think it's a cute story!

A retcon that you wish would be reversed: Does the entire New 52 count? Bring back Rani! I think Booster could have a convoluted family tree, and that should include Rani.

A retcon that fixed a LOT of shit: I don't know if it fixed anything, but I liked that Michelle was brought back. I also like that Rip was made into Booster's son. I think it'd be fun if they could play off each other more without necessarily taking away from their own space as individuals. As much as I like BGv2, I do think Rip has gotten a little pushed to the wayside by virtue of having Booster as a father.

A headcanon extrapolated from all of your extensive reading because no one knows this character like you do: This is my insanity talking, but Rip's mom is the timestream. Or like specifically that one girl who appears at the end of BGv2 and is like turned into the timestream or something. That's why Rip has such a strong connection to time travel. Also, the Carters might be metahumans with time travel powers. Not in that they alone are the only people who can travel, but that they're very in tune to changes in the multiverse and timestream and by virtue immune to a lot of the effects, depending on how often they're exposed to time travel.

A pitch for their next solo (or team) book: BGv3: Bring Rani back!!!! No, but seriously, I just would kill to see the v2 cast interacting with Ted.

Now for Lois <3

A comic you'd recommend to get to know this character: Superman (1986) and all the accompanying runs (Man of Steel, Action Comics, The Adventures of Superman). I loved this era for Superman in general, but I think we get a real sense of Postcrisis Lois, and I love how she falls for Clark here. Also, I do think Superman Smashes the Klan has a fantastic Lois, but obviously it's not main continuity.

A comic you would NEVER recommend reading for this character: Never is a strong word, but the Silver Age Lois comics need to be taken with a grain of salt. It's the Silver Age. You know what you're getting into.

A comic you would recommend reading only with the footnotes (aka after reading a bunch of other stuff): Superman (2016) and Action Comics (2016). Rebirth Lois is fantastic, but I think getting to see her as a mom can undermine some of how you should perceive her earlier. I stand by that Lois should not want kids, so Jon, while her baby, was a surprise, so seeing her like this doesn't jive unless you know her.

A retcon that you wish would be reversed: The worst of it is over (New 52), so I don't actually have anything for her at the moment? Lois is a pretty stable character overall, so I don't have too many complains.

A retcon that fixed a LOT of shit: Bringing the New 52 Lois and Postcrisis Lois into one. Rebirth had a lot of problems, but I thought that was neat.

A headcanon extrapolated from all of your extensive reading because no one knows this character like you do: Lois's parents are divorced. Honestly, I don't care about comics that say something different. She has that energy, and I stand by it.

A pitch for their next solo (or team) book: Lois gets involved in what she thinks is a simple local crime story, which is somehow tied to the League of Assassins. She meets Talia. They take down bad guys. They kiss. They get coffee and plan play dates for Damian and Jon, who hate that their moms get along. Or do they?

Why Trisha bad mom? That’s mean.

there’s a whole page on reddit dedicated to her lies and problematic past but i’ll touch on a couple things bc it’s not being mean, it’s being real. this won’t be too in depth or a list of absolutely everything, but this should paint the picture well enough. tw and cw for well… everything

trisha paytas is a pathological and dangerous liar, domestic abuser and all around vile person. she has made videos in the past about how being gay is a choice, then proceeded to say she was trans, then a lesbian, then non-binary, (making a mockery of the individuals within these groups) all of which was dropped very quickly after it stopped being “trendy.” she claimed she hated playing with barbies when she was young as she didn’t feel like a girl, hated having breasts etc, but has now named her daughter malibu barbie. she said she would raise her children non-binary, but that’s her baby’s name, she dresses her in all pink and the nursery/baby gear is all pink.

she is extremely anti semitic, she fetishises jewish men especially and she’s had past videos praising hitler and mocking jews, which then got deleted and scrubbed off the internet. she continues to fetishise jewish men as she’s now married to one, and if you go back to her podcast era, frenemies with ethan klein, she repeatedly made him, a jewish man, uncomfortable with her anti-semitism and fetishisation of judaism.

speaking of frenemies, there’s a mountain load to take from there but i won’t go into that unless someone asks me to bc i’m REALLY trying to keep this short and sweet.

trisha has a long history of racism, starting all the way back in 2012 online, when she mocked the japanese language and gyaru community. she’s also made a music video and song inspired by django unchained, where she did black face, dressed up as a slave and sang “you can whip me every night, just like django.” she’s also repeatedly used the n word, and even once expressed upset that she can’t use anti gay and anti black slurs. she also has a song, a very RACIST song, called jungle fever. need i say more.

trisha has dated a convicted pedophile in 2017, and she defended him. his victim was 3 years old and he admitted to the crime btw. she also made a mockery of the DID community by feigning the diagnosis. she has also cosplayed as jon-benet ramsey, a young girl who was murdered.

there’s a lot into this and to try and make this as short as possible i won’t go too deep into this but she’s abused her ex, jason nash, and has even publicly admitted to driving her car INTO HIS HOUSE, endangering his and possibly others lives. this is not the only man she’s abused, she has a pattern here. she has admitted she used to take jason’s keys and refuse to let him leave, and she’s done the same to her now husband moses. moses, in a tiktok with trisha that’s now deleted, admitted she has physically abused him, forced him sexually and threatened to kill herself if he leaves her - a common tactic from abusers.

she’s romanticised sexual assault, and one of the main reasons ethan klein does not associate with trisha paytas anymore, is her inconsistent and frankly seemingly fabricated story about one of her teachers raping her. the teacher in question is deceased, can’t speak for himself, and her story has changed countless times. she told everyone to look up the teachers name and her allegation, as it would apparently come up with proof from a newspaper, when all it did was prove that she pulled someone else’s story about a different teacher and made it her own. in her old videos, she said teachers inspired her and helped her during a turbulent childhood, then outed this teacher publicly for being arrested for child pornography, telling everyone that they could look it up, and again, when her fanbase did, it was proven to be not true. she says she testified in court at 6 years old, also not true. there has been NO criminal charges, no investigation, no trial, no reports to the school, no news articles, nothing of what she has claimed to be public exists. his name and this allegation was broadcasted on frenemies episode 17, which was taken down by ethan out of respect for the deceased teachers family, as he was awaiting trisha paytas to clarify the many many questionable and downright false parts to her story. she refused to clarify on anything and continued to perpetuate the same lies that were proven to be false. (i would like to point out that i truly believe trisha has experienced CSA, in a now deleted video her mother talked about how one of her boyfriends “fell into trishas bed” and it is widely believed that this is true, and that trisha has been the victim of CSA and this has rarely truly been talked about by her as it is no doubt painful. her hypersexuality in young years points to this as well and i truly feel for that little girl inside of her who hasn’t had the chance to heal and i do truly wish she finds some therapy and gets some help, she in no way deserved that. but this doesn’t mean that the allegation towards this teacher hasn’t been proven to be seemingly completely baseless.)

back to moses for a second, trisha claims you should always believe victims and parroted this when ethan and fans rightfully called her out and asked her questions regarding her allegations towards her teacher. two of moses’ ex girlfriends have come forward and revealed that moses stealthed them. stealthing is the act of removing a condom during sex without the partners knowledge or consent, this is sexual assault/rape. trisha has ignored these allegations, and in leaked messages between her, ethan and hila, she claimed the women were liars and that moses would never do such a thing, despite these women both having consistent allegations.

these behaviours have been exhibited and documented for over 15 years. this is not a one time thing. this is not a mistake. this is a pattern of behaviour.

to go on, if you don’t think that’s enough, she seemingly has done 0 research on this baby and what the baby will need. she ate ridiculous amounts of sodium, carbs and generally just unhealthy and obscene portions throughout her pregnancy, despite knowing this would be a risk for her baby. it’s been speculated she has had a scheduled c section, something she will likely lie about, bc there’s a pretty big chance she was experiencing a high risk pregnancy. she bought a car seat that literally can’t be used in the US as it doesn’t pass inspections and regulations. then she bought another car seat, one that was fine, and then A THIRD. she does 0 research. she spends money on a prada bag for nappies and what not, and purchased big money flashy things like babybrezzas and the snoo, but her pram and car seat was where she wanted to skimp? she also, from what we can tell, kept getting lip fillers despite being pregnant. she’s already exploiting her baby, we didn’t even make it 24 hours without a camera being shoved into a baby’s face, and that baby will be used as a way to try and make more money and gain fame from the family channel fans.

and last but certainly not least, she named her baby malibu barbie. that’s a crime in itself.

Jack Harlow shares "Drive Safe" visual on social media

This past Saturday (Dec. 30, 2023), Jack Harlowdecided to drop a new visual for “Drive Safe,” the latest from his upcoming fourth album. Released exclusively on Instagram, the clip sees him reflecting on his player lifestyle while taking a stroll under the night sky.

“Remember one thing, you not my girl, I rock with you, but you don’t rock my world, I love hangin’ with you, but I’m not hung up on you, I got another hour in me after I f**k on you, and then it’s a forehead kiss on the doorstep, the way she tryna stay is like she studied in Morehead, but, nah, she went to Western, the body of Corvette, bellbottom jeans and a lil’ bitty corset, Neelam ain’t a fan of her, she tried to give me caution signs like the floor’s wet…”

The 2forwOyNE-produced offering follows “Lovin On Me,” which was released in November 2023 and serves as the lead single for Harlow’s fourth studio LP. The Cadillac Dale-sampled effort eventually became Harlow’s third No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, following “First Class,” and Lil Nas X’s “INDUSTRY BABY.”

“Thank you for allowing me to reset this year. I moved back to Kentucky and gave you an album I could not have made on the road,” Harlow wrote on Instagram just before the arrival of “Lovin On Me.” “Surrounded by family and childhood friends, this has been one of the happiest years of my life. But now, a new era begins.”

As REVOLT previously reported, Harlow teamed up with Range Media Productions, Media.Monks and Meta to create “No Place Like Home: A VR Concert,” which will serve as both a show and documentary for those who did not attend the Louisville star’s “No Place Like Home: The Kentucky Tour.” Interested parties can check it out on Thursday (Jan. 4) via Meta’s Horizon Worlds virtual reality game.

Liveblogging TMA - Season 2 - MAG 41-45

"Trust can get you killed."

TOO DEEP :

First episode of season 2 !

Or otherwise called "Jon's Paranoid Era". Here's to hoping it's just a phase.

When I first started the episode, I thought that Jonathan sounded kind of unstable in his statement, unhinged in a way that didn't suit him.

Turns out, he is ! But he is also aware of it, and self aware enough to use it to his advantage and make people focus on the wrong things. Which is good, I think, though I'd rather he wouldn't be alone in this endeavour.

He won't be for long, I'm sure, but knowing that Not-Sasha is here is putting me on edge, and I am glad that she is not aware of what he's planning. If Martin or Tim were, I'm sure they'd probably end babbling about it to her.

Elias is not even worth thinking of.

Robert Smirke and his architecture have made a comeback, and a new mystery is to be added. The tunnels, and who controls them. Is it the being that is watching him ? But then, why would it, whatever it is, go look through the files whenever nobody's there, as shown in the trailer ? What was it doing before the tunnels were discovered, was it trapped there ? Surely not, if Gertrude went there herself.

If she did at all, anyway.

The plot is advancing, and Jonathan's sanity has taken a plundge. Personally, while I do think that Prentiss is dead, it doesn't mean that the Hive is, I am calling bullshit on this one.

Still, entertaining episode and strong season opener.

Onto the next one !

GRIFTER'S BONE :

HELL YES MUSIC BABY !

Music so beautiful, it makes you violent, music so good, it makes you kill yourself because you just know that you will never hear anything as good ever again and what's the point of living if you can't ?

Oh, I loved this one.

Not much else to say about the oddity though. Grifter has probably made the same kind of contract or whatever it was that Angela from "Piecemeal" jiggsaw demon did, the ability to make the most beautiful music at the price of the lives of the people who hear it, or something like that.

A little cameo of the Dreamer (or Oliver as his name probably is), trying to warn the poor girl before it's too late.

The things stubborness and curiosity makes us do.

Speaking of Jon though, our dear is slipping more and more, he already sounds more perturbed than in the last episode, but to be fair to him, what the fuck was even that Martin ? I am going toassume that his mother is dead or something, otherwise why he wouldn't just send her a text and have a conversation with her is beyond me.

For what it's worth, I am pretty positive that Martin isn't the one who killed Gertrude. Again, I don't trust him, but that's mostly because I don't really believe that people like him exist without hiding something, which was confirmed this episode !

Whether or not his secret is dangerous is another matter though.

Pretty sure his sudden bouts of mastery is just his dedication trying to impress Jonathan though.

Those two are probably SO shipped by the fandom, I just know it.

SECTION 31 :

"The words you learn to look out for are “weird”, “odd”, “strange” and if you hear the phrase “I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at”, then yeah, you’re not getting much back-up."

EVERYONE SHUT UP, JON MADE A JOKE !!

Oh my God, we're getting more lore on the functionning of society in TMA, I am screaming. This is amazing, perfection, show stopping. I need more of that, please and thank you, gimma aaaaall the world building. I do want to learn more about the oddities, but I also really want to know how the world outside of the Institute works. Let Jonathan have a supernatural cop buddy.

He's already so alone, and so tired and unsettled. Let him get a friend that he is sure won't be coming after him.

Anyway, we got the name of the man from "First Aid", the one calling for the scorching demon, lightless light, whatever its name is.

The way the police force work is fascinating though.

Basira probably have been implicated in some of the statements we read. I remember some mentionning a female cop ? But considering that those never got really resolved, I have to assume that she didn't even realize that they were genuine cases. Working with Jonathan could potentially broaden her horizons quite a bit, and maybe she could learn the ways to actually protect people from those oddities.

I wonder, was she the one who went on to check on Not-Garam, from "Across the Street" ? If, maybe, she suspected something, I wonder if she would get implicated in the Not-Sasha thing, then.

And what happened to the Leitner of Diego Molina, that made Spencer kill himself ? Did Diego get it back ? Before getting killed by Gerard, anyway.

Plus, the whole guy who tried to kill himself. I have genuinely no clue as to what is happening here, maybe another immortal like the one in "Cheating Death" trying to die ? What with the ancient looking dominos in glass cases. She never mentionned anything happening after that. Maybe it was the same guy that made the statement, actually ! Nathaniel Thorp. I guess he was tired, and decided that living in hell wasn't actually worth it, compared to death.

I could see it.

From the little list, we also got spider-husks ("Arachnophobia" link ?) and vampires ("Obviously, from "Vampire Killer". I wonder if she ever met the hunter before he died.).

Lots of call backs and links to be made, that the police never realized because they never got a hand on those statements. Fascinating.

But anyway, next episode !

Considering the title, am I to understand we'll get a "Circus of the Other" statement ?

TIGHTROPE :

HOLY SHIT IT'S A GERTRUDE'S RECORDING !!

And it was, indeed, a "Circus of the Other" sighting ! Grandiose.

Great episode, as usual. This season didn't have a boring one yet, it's amazing.

I didn't expect to get a Gertrude's statement full on so early, but it was amazing. I really enjoyed her voice, though I kind of felt that Jonathan somewhat put more ... I don't know, emotions to them ? She did too, but the difference between her voice as she recites the statement and her archivist voice isn't as ... Stark as Jon's is, at least to me.

Still, it is there, and means that whatever is pushing Jon to make the statements the way he does has been here for a long, long time, and doing the same for each and every of the archivists.

More information on the circus, which I have been curious about, especially considering that whatever has destroyed statements at the end of last season took the time to destroy the one about the calliope. It never really made sense, and it still doesn't, to be honnest.

More about Denikin, the granfather who had the calliope, and who was apparently pretty violent and evil ? Considering where he was working at anyway. So what, one day he just decided he didn't want to murder and defigurate people to put them in a show with his friends and just ... Retired ? No consequences ? Peaceful end of his life ?

Goddamn.

Between Denikin and Breekon and Hope, does this mean the others from the circus troupe, (the ones that were actually crew and not puppets or disfigured victims at least) also came to England ? Back to Gertrude Robinson though, contrary to what Jonathan thought, she did know that something was happening. Actually, she probably (definitely) knows more than Jonathan himself ever has. I guess it makes sense, considering that she was the Head Archivist for 50 years.

Does this mean that she was faking not knowing, or being incompetent, to hide whatever she knew from being discovered ? Are all Archivists destined to become paranoid messes ?

And talking about paranoid messes, Jon is slipping, little by little. Suspicious of everyone, which, again, it's good ! Because Not-Sasha. But also, if he's gonna lose his marbles anyway, he could have been smart earlier and think to hide the tapes himself BEFORE, instead of letting them into his drawer.

Urgh, whatever. First miss of the season for me, though it was still good, just not something that spoke to me.

Onto the case itself. Again with the diseases and the insects and the blergh. An act by the Hive, maybe ? Or Asag, the demon/oddity of diseases and stuff.

Did the scientist really exchange his syringe for money ? I doubt he did it for another item. Maybe the syringe was protecting him, and when he gave it away, he stopped being protected ?

But then, why did he need to be protected ? Was the oddity after him, for some reason ? Maybe after his family, since it was mentionned that his ancestor had found a way to save people from cholera, which is ... Pretty significant. And I just know that oddities are petty enough to keep a grudge to last several centuries and generations.

Something else to notice is the emphasis on the type of blood it was in the bag. O negative. And infected with several, potentially deadly diseases that could kill any normal man.

... Unless he cheated death and somehow became an immortal with a wish to die.

Jonathan is slowly making his way through the team, which is worrying, but also good because Not-Sasha DOES need suspicion thrown at her, but I swear to God, if he goes easy on her or end up trusting her over any of his friends, I will find a way to reach through the screen and strangle him.

But I fear it might just go that way.

Because I know he is the most open with her. That she is the closest to him of them all, at least at this point in the story.

And Martin, with his hovering, is not helping with the trust issues.

Still, it was nice to have a bit of Timothy's background. I too am asking myself all of these questions.

Anyway, enough about waiting your work, the most pressing issue is HAVE Y/N MADE DAMIAN A FLOWER CROWN?! And the poolside scene reminded me that if she could make a human sized leaf, have jon, damian and her ever played with it? Like wrapping some vines pretending they are lost in space or some fun stuff. And if its not too much, what is y/n fav flower and has she ever thought of a certain flower reminded her of damian?? Idk man i am so invested

Oh my goodness. Does Y/N make Damian flower crowns? Are you kidding!? When doesn't she force a flower crown on that boy's head? 😂

The amount of photos Y/N has on her phone of Damian looking like a total grump with a new flower crown forced on him...

He pretends to be annoyed by it. But warms his heart every time Y/N bursts with joy from the sight. Which is the only reason he doesn't immediately rip them off.

I wouldn't say Jon and Damian "play" with Y/N's superpowers a lot. To be honest, they live in a crazy world. Jon is technically part alien and his dad is Superman. And Damian has seen some freaky shit in his life. So they don't think Y/N's abilities are as out of the world as the average person.

But Jon does often ask Y/N to make pretty bouquet's for him that he can give to his mother, Louis. Y/N always puts the most care and detail into them.

Also, Y/N would never ever be able to pick a favorite flower. They're like her babies. It's like asking a parent who their favorite child is. She loves all her plants, not even just her flowers.

But a flower that reminds her of Damian is the Edelweiss.

For starters, the flower has a short life span and is grown in the most remote, rockiest areas of the Alps. It is difficult to find, so when men harvested the flowers for their loved ones, it was a true testament to their devotion. It can also be used to symbolize patriotism, adventure, and sacrifice, too. Edelweiss flowers usually represent devotion and deep love.

Martin has a thing for problematic characters (entire house targaryen, tyrion and even arya). He spends so much time on them, tries to make them more sympathetic, but also explores very dark themes with them. Although, he absolutely doesn't intend to give them HEA (house targaryen will become extinct, tyrion will die/live a miserable life, arya will sail on a ship-which is the closest to HEA he can give arya considering how dark she has become for a "hero"), the general readers find it extremely difficult to separate his personal interest in these weirdos from what the fact that he writes them (and totally intends to write them) as very dark and problematic (he calls arya a pshyco, tyrion a villain and don't get me started on his opinions on targs). So general readers often easily mistake them for heroes (and I'm talking about tyrion and targs; arya is a stark and a "hero" but as i said before, the best she can hope for is sailing away on a ship as Martin has more than toed the line with her). Another thing is that Martin likes these characters for reasons totally different than why general fandom likes them, he likes them because they are dark, not because he considers them poor little oppressed victims who will ultimately become kings/queens (these positions are set: bran will be king and sansa will be queen, so in way his fav characters are also red herrings).

Yes, the dark characters really fascinate Martin. He loves working on them and he loves exploring ethical questions via them.

Having villains as POV characters was a good and a bold choice for this genre.

You give three examples about this. Targ*ryens (I assume also Da*nerys), Tyrion and Arya.

About Targ*ryens: we have different materials:

- In Asoiaf books we have Da*nerys POV (I won't include Jon as a Targ*ryen POV because even the author himself lists him under Stark kids.)

Da*nerys is written very well. First we meet her as a poor abused girl BUT her Targaryen pride shows itself even in her first chapter. Because she was raised by Viserys. So we feel sorry for her but also she is not some pure hearted angel.

Martin strategically highlights her own thoughts and feelings in her chapters to hide her dark deeds in the background.

For example:

Dothraki men are destroying villages, taking people as slaves and r*ping women but Dany is thinking about how this is the price of the Iron Throne.. so their pain is ABOUT HER GOALS.

She is sad and angry because she lost her baby and husband and while readers are focusing on her anger, pain and magical triumph, in the background an innocent victim and HER SLAVE is being burned alive BY HER (Mirri Maz Duur).

She is breaking her word and destroying an entire city but she feels like a savior and a conqueror so readers don't care about how people of Astapor going to live after that.

She feels guilty because her dragon kills a child and she tries to do the right thing. But as soon as she feels powerful again on her dragon, she forgets child's name... and so does the reader.

Like I said it before: Dany's whole character and arc is about illusions. An illusion of heroism. So we have a villain, who says she wants to be good but her actions are dark af. Good writing and characterization.

- We have Dunk and Egg books: These books are important because during this era Targs don't have dragons. These Targs are less dangerous but still there are the bad ones. And even the good ones are not free of Targs' bad traits like: feeling superior and normalizing incest. Egg (Aegon) is considered as a good King but even he loses himself in dragon obsession later in life and this brings the fall of house Targ*ryen in the long run. So even the good and promising child Aegon we met in D&E books falls for the dark Targ*ryen ideals. We also meet the Bloodraven who is one the possible dark characters in the Asoiaf books. Good writing and world building.

- We have Fire and Blood book: All Targs suck. Good ruler doesn't have to be a good person. Some propaganda but also Author bullshits from time to time. Bad writing, no characterization. Awfully bad book. (more about this book: F&B Sucks )

The only people who ended up loving F&B are the ones who can find someone to stan even in the worst and the most bland books because stanning a character is their personality trait. Or they are obsessed with "superior" characters. These people should be psychologically examined, if you ask me.

Anyway in the end, like you said... house Targ*ryen is not rewarded BUT giving them too much attention and platform in the series created a cult like fandom which is ironic because I bet Martin didn't want those readers to have such ideas about awful characters.

Unfortunately idiot people with weak character will always worship such characters like it happens in real life. Tyrants win their power like this. It doesn't have to be a political thing you know. Remember all the awful famous people who became famous by acting like a superior person or by victimizing themselves. Some people will always follow such figures.

So... Martin is bold and original for creating D*ny and T*rgaryens but him giving them too much space in his world was a BAD IDEA. Imagine media only talking about one awful candidate during an election, of course people will be more interested with that candidate. Simple psychology.

As an artist, does Martin have to control his readers' assumptions and expectations? No he doesn't have to BUT I personally believe that even in fiction an ethical statement must be given by the creator and he should be careful and he should write strategically. Because if most of his readers are falling for the bad takes maybe author himself went too far in his writing.

Normally I wouldn't care that readers are falling in traps BUT this Targ*ryen issue bothers me because in real life these Targ like figures are getting more attention and followers too everyday and in this political era, I find his writing strategy risky..

Tyrion:

Tyrion is actually a very normal everyday villain. He is an ugly man with daddy issues and he hates women. We see men like him everyday. And like most of the men, even when he gets powerful he still finds sth that makes him feel sorry for himself. He is a hungry man. Hungry for power, worship, gratitude, women etc. He can never be happy and content and that's why he is a villain. The good thing is, even from the start Martin never hid the fact that as the creator he considers Tyrion as a villain. And you can see that he likes him the most BECAUSE he is a villain.

Tyrion is Martin's favorite character, but from the perspective of House Stark, he's certainly a villain - someone once said that a villain was a hero on the other side.

Martin: I've got to admit I kind of like Tyrion Lannister. He's the villain of course, but hey, there's nothing like a good villain.

And like he does with Dany, Martin tries to make him sympathetic too. I mean shoving his manpain into our faces is a little annoying but like I said: people love to root for the victim and people who victimize themselves will always find admirers.

Dark characters are important for Martin because they are perfect for him to examine the grey in the world.

With good characters you can't go too grey/dark because they'll lose their good ones status (this happens with Arya, I am afraid... author went too far). But with dark characters, you can explore the grey area easier. Tyrion, Jaime, Hound, Theon etc can do sth really dark in one moment and in next they can do sth good. You can't do that with good characters. Imagine Jon, r*ping a girl but in his next chapter he saves a little girl's life.

Would one good deed erase the bad one? No but some people might start to find him more sympathetic because people LOVE it when a bad person becomes better or saves the day. In real life, you can realize that the good deeds of bad people get more attention than the deeds of good people. I don't know, maybe people can't accept the idea of bad people. And that's why Asoiaf's bad characters get more attentions and fans. Author's own words also explains why he is more obsessed with the bad ones:

Finally, to me the most interesting thing he said publicly all weekend were some comments about the nature of writing and what he tries to do. He said that pure good-and-evil fantasy wasn't interesting to him; while Tolkien had done Sauron masterfully, he'd had a lot of bad imitators doing 'dark lord' villains. He noted that to him the most interesting characters in Lord of the Rings were the more flawed heroes, folks like Boromir and Denethor.

He made the point rather dramatically by saying that all fiction could be lumped into two types: Good guy punches bad guy in the nose, or the human heart struggles against itself. He said he was really only interested in writing the second kind of fiction.

He repeatedly emphasized that he prefers to write grey characters, because in real life people are complex; no one is pure evil or pure good. Fiction tends to divide people into heroes who do no wrong and villains who go home and kick their dogs and beat their wives, but that reality is much different. He cited a soldier who heroically saves his friends' lives, but then goes home and beats his wife. Which is he, hero or villain? Martin said both and that neither act cancels out the other.

So he said that he likes to paint characters in shades of grey. And that even what seem like the most horrific people have other sides, aren't pure caricatures of evil, that even Hitler had his nice moments. And he wanted to explore what might cause that kind of villainy, because no one just wakes up and says "I want to be evil today," and that Jaime didn't start out evil--that he actually was a very idealistic young man who was disillusioned by life, and that there was always much more to his killing of Arys than just "evil."

I kind of tried to ask "Do you think he's changed?" to get him to talk about Jaime's redemption arc, so he said something like he wanted to explore the concept of forgiveness and whether it's ever possible to be forgiven for doing such horrible things, and that his goal was to ask the question, not give an answer.

In the last quote he says that his goal is the asking the question, he doesn't want to answer the questions himself.

And this brings us back to this:

Does the artist have to make a statement? I don't think he HAS TO, but I believe that he SHOULD.

Or at least he should give us two different statements to choose. In Dany and Targs' case, my main complain is that Martin doesn't give anti Targ people POVs. Especially in F&B, all anti Targ people were crazy, awful or a joke. Yes I can see that Targs suck but you also don't give us a different POVs.

So in the end for example: was mob killing the dragons a bad thing? Because author says that they felt bad after the incident. I say it again... if you keep giving the villains' side to the readers, they will be more interested with THEM and THEIR FEELINGS and THEIR STORIES (no one cares about Bran because he has like 20 povs in 5 books).

Arya:

I am not gonna talk about her because he just failed with her imo. Is she a hero or not? She is too dark and it's too late for coming back. Filed under: author's errors.

And I am still saying that: Tyrion ending up as a Hand can never be considered as a punishment. No way. So in this case... author's statement is: bad people can win in the end. He says he doesn't give the answers but his writing is his answer and the answer is not satisfying, at least not for me.

I have a whole lecture series for this. 😂

The second ever post I made on this blog - if Aegon is in fact an imposter, it would be baiting the audience by presenting a cool story about a biracial character living when everyone thought he was dead and returning to get justice for his murdered other and sister, only for it to turn out that he’s just some white guy unintentionally masquerading as a murdered brown boy. The story of a rightful king is one that we see very often in fantasy. I certainly understand the desire to examine and deconstruct it. But it’s a gross choice to do that with characters of colour, who are rarely the subject of such stories. It probably would have been okay even despite that fact, had it not been for the following point.

Aegon does not exist in a vacuum. There is a clear pattern of poor treatment of characters of colour. Both the Martells - Arianne is introduced breasts first with much less focus on her very real skills; Martin uses Quentyn to make an example of a character of colour that fails when everyone that ultimately succeeds will be white for the sake of regaining the stakes of the story; Rhaenys Targaryen was brutally murdered as a toddler - and the characters in Essos. The Dothraki are not given distinctive personality traits; Irri and Jhiqui might as well be the same person for all that it matters and are treated as silly little girls even though they went through literally the exact same things that Dany did; Myriah Martell was met with suspicion and hostility when she married into the Targaryens, with complaints about how Daeron listened to the whispers of women persisting to the canon era, while her Targaryen goodsister is spoken of fondly and respectfully by canon era Martells on top of having enjoyed immense influence over her husband’s homeland, as evidenced by the fact she was the one that began the tradition of the Water Gardens being a place for everyone. Which brings us to Aegon, the biracial son of a brutalized woman of colour and the brother of a violently murdered toddler. There are white characters that were presumed dead that turned out to be alive. There were baby swaps with white characters. There are white characters that pretended to be other people. So why is it Aegon, the sole character of colour that is involved with any of these conspiracies and swaps, the one that has to be false? JonCon can turn out to be alive, Mance and Gilly’s sons can be swapped, Sansa can pretend to be Alayne, Ned can protect Jon by raising him as his own son, but god forbid Aegon is exactly who he says and believes himself to be. Too improbable!

On top of this, these characters of colour are specifically harmed for the sake of white characters’ stories. Jon Snow as a character makes no sense without murdered Rhaenys. It does not make sense for him to grow up as Ned Stark’s bastard to protect him from Ned Stark’s best friend unless the aforementioned best friend has already condoned the murders of children. Baelor Breakspear, who explicitly took after his mother, had to die so his white passing brother and nephew could take the throne. His other brothers may have looked like him, but either way, there’s no evidence and the throne still passed to Maekar, who explicitly had the expected Targaryen look. These issues would be fine on their own! I’d probably still grumble about murdered three year old Rhaenys, but not about Baelor! It would have been a completely valid - and beautiful - writing choice for his death to mark the beginning of the end of the Targaryen dynasty with Baelor, the hope of Westeros, cut down by his own brother, perpetuating the same old cycle of family fighting family. The problem is all these issues put together.

These are all in-text issues, but fandom worsens them. While in canon, Arianne is extremely smart with sympathetic motives, impressive skills, and a great deal of compassion for other people, fandom would often have us believe that she’s just a stupid, smug, and scheming snake that only cares about her ambition and would immediately throw in with Aegon not because she believes he’s really her cousin or that it’s the right thing to do, but because she wants a crown. While in canon, Oberyn spent the last fifteen years of his life in a committed relationship with Ellaria, fandom would have us believe that it’s just a casual fling and they’re both always sleeping with other people. People are so determined to justify Rhaegar’s actions and absolve him of any responsibility, they’ll come up with elaborate theories as to how Elia was having an affair and Rhaenys wasn’t Rhaegar’s daughter. The second anyone criticizes even the structure of Dany’s story, built as it is around racist writing choices, much less any of her in-universe decisions, people make up strawmen arguments about how anyone making the mildest criticism is defending slavery. This context matters immensely for understanding precisely why people react to Aegon the way they do.

When arguing that Aegon must be a female line Blackfyre descendant, one point that always comes up is that it’s “too late in the story” for him to be the real Aegon. Setting aside the bizarre logic behind that idea - it’s too late for Aegon to be Aegon, but it’s not too late to bring up this ludicrously complicated idea of him being Illyrio’s son by a woman that happened to be a Blackfyre descendant, that just so happened to be the same age as Rhaegar and Elia’s son and grew up to look just like Rhaegar? Is this another thing having to do with the obsession with main houses with people thinking that any Targaryen has to be in it from the beginning, but not so a random person? - this is more about not wanting Aegon to be Aegon than the theory actually making sense. It’s about the fear that him existing somehow takes away from Jon or Dany. You’ll note that these theories are never about a real thematic purpose or how finding out he’s not who he’s been raised to believe he is will impact him. They’re entirely about getting him out of the way, so that this ~special Targaryen status~ is preserved as being only for Jon and Dany. Half Dornish Aegon, with the best claim of any Targaryen, whose story arc involves appealing to his maternal family, can’t be alive!It’s the same reason that people ignore his good traits - his sense of humour, his intelligence, his wise perspective on the Kingsguard, his refusal to let Yandry throw Tyrion overboard, his ability to persuade others to see his perspective - for the sake of treating him like an incompetent monster for...getting mad at Tyrion for lying to and taunting him and freezing up at the sight of the stone men. That’s absurd. It’s both of these things that help clarify the thought process behind the theory.

If Aegon is an imposter, it is using a story point that would be perfectly innocuous with white characters in a way that’s gross and racist with a character of colour in a story that treats characters of colour poorly. If he were not the only nonwhite claimant to the throne, it would be fine. If visibly brown Baelor Breakspear had ascended to the throne, it would have been fine. If the “he’s fake” theory was not always paired with “and Arianne will die for throwing in with him”, it would be fine. As it is, though? Not fine.
