Fanon Brothers Wittebane Week: Day 2
The Golden and The Dirty children.
Tumblr media
Funny thought: Fanon Wittebanes influenced how audiences view Canon Brothers. Like.. On the Hollow Mind Portraits the one who can be called an active and funky child is imho Caleb, while Philip looks very quiet and quite polite (?). Definetly "that silent kid" in every class. But since Fanon Phillip was quite a gremlin and William was a protective older and very very responsible brother - ppl just continued to think the same was the case after the Fanon Belos Backstory was proven wrong.
William treating Phillips wounds after fathers disciplinary measures.
Tumblr media
Dialogue is taken from the "It could have been different" thread on Belos Simp Coven.
Bthw. I think the reason why in that "AU" of sorts things got to be different for Phillip and William, is that their parents, which are Duch American immegrants, havent died. ... Not like it is a super duper good thing tho :)

so to get this straight for swap au:
Left is character right is the role
amity - luz
Lilith - eda
collector - king
Willow - gus
Gus - Willow
Hunter - ???
eda - Lilith ???
king - collector??
mattholmule - ?????
I was wondering if you could tell me what the last few are😭 sorry if I’m just dumping everything out onto you no pressure to answer!
Yeah sure!!!
So unfortunately for our favorite white boy, Hunter as we know him in TOH doesn’t really. Exist in the swap au? Because in order for that to happen, Caleb would have to be dead and Philip would be making grimwalkers of him. And in the swap au, Philip is the one that’s dead and getting cloned by Caleb. So instead of Hunter we have Azrael, a grimwalker of Philip under the care of Father Hierophant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s got a similar arc to Hunters, but his personality is a little different. He’s more grumpy and more intentionally mean, but he’s by no means a bad person. He’s just been manipulated and controlled to the point of frustration.
Eda takes the role of Lilith, King is a little starchild in the collector’s role, and I wasn’t sure what to do with Matt but I think I figured it out! Since I didn’t want to ship Azrael with Gus as a parallel to huntlow, I’m having Matt switch places with Boscha, but he’s going to actually redeem himself and be nicer than her so we have a kind of “boschlow but awesome and yaoi” thing going on LOLLLL

On the topic of How Do You Handle XYZ Comment, I've always wondered how you handle terrible responses on your toh takes. Like I know the toh fandom doesn't lack piss on the poor reading comprehension and they also really enjoy wildly out of touch takes, but I've never seen any comments on your princess luz stuff of that nature. I'm sure they must be there but maybe I'm too early? But anyway, how do you tend to deal with the "acktually shipping luz and Hunter is incest" and the "ur not a real lesbian because putting amity in a poly ship is lesbian erasure" and the "as a white person kinda sus you make the poc woman an empress" kind of responses? Ones that are technically not hate and maybe if you squint could be from people who aren't inherently trying to do bad but just lack the maturity needed to engage with the internet at large?
this ask made me giggle. honestly, i haven't received as much pushback as you might expect! way less pushback than i expected. in the princess AU, i've gotten a LOT more "this is actually too grotesque for me to stomach" comments than "this is problematic" comments, which is fine. horror-thriller isn't for everyone, those comments do not upset me.
i have had a Few run-ins with bad faith people, whom i mostly block. there's one prolific commenter in toh tumblr fandom who would repeatedly write angry essays on my humor meta posts -- essays that were all about how belos is too evil to be sympathetic and/or about how hunter is a soft gentle boy who shouldn't be jokingly referred to as evil. then they'd go "i can't help my active and conscious decision to type a bunch of rude fucking words and then my active and conscious decision to send those rude fucking words because i'm autistic :(((" around the fourth or fifth time this happened, i was fucking done with that nonsense and finally blocked them. shoulda done it after the first comment tbh!! no more autism exceptions.
as for the rest of it, my main management strategy is to simply.... preempt the bad faith comments?
i had a LOT more unpleasant and conflict-filled fandom experiences when i was in the raven cycle fandom. that was my first exposure to "you can't ship multi-gender polycules if anyone involved is gay" and "queerplatonic het relationships are just heteronormativity shipping that you're trying to get away with." having dealt with those takes before, i've found a few different ways to disarm bad faith readers before they get started.
first is to be super open and honest about my interests. i talk about what i find compelling in different relationships All The Damn Time. it's really hard for anyone to accuse me of only wanting hunter to fuck amity if they've seen, like.... anything i've said about hunter and amity.
same with hunter and luz. the only negative reactions i've really gotten to how they're written in the princess AU is like.... two people being squicked by camila thinking they're romantically involved. i REALLY expected more pushback on the touchyfeely bed sharing stuff, but from what i remember, there's never been Any....? not even from people who consider them siblings.
i expected a lot of pushback on how mean hunter and amity are to each other, since it's taken So much farther than the canon. but it turns out that there's a very large overlap between people who like dark horror AUs and people who like hunter and amity murdering each other. (in a fluffy fic i don't think this characterization would fly Nearly as easily.)
i find that being funny really disarms people, too. when you look at any of my toh meta posts that could be controversial, they're basically all funny. people are a lot more willing to listen to what you have to say if you make them laugh, and it's harder for them to get angry at you.
and then the last thing is that i think i'm in sort of a privileged position in toh fandom. i've written a lot of controversial subjects and relationships and characterizations.... but i've also written some WILDLY popular mainstream fic. and people who like the mainstream fic don't really want to beef with me about differing niche opinions, bc there's a level of respect there. which they might not have for a writer they don't like.
but anyway. when things Do happen, i almost always just block and move on. there are so many people here who get what i'm talking about that there's no need for me to try to convert people who don't, you know??

Ough so many good ideas and no time or patience to write em out but idea for a sorta Swap/Sleeping Isles TOH Au!
Basic idea: what if the Archivist were taken out instead of the Titans?
- okay, maybe that was a little lie, not all the archivist are dead and gone
-but most are.
-still sorta takes place on the titan's body, however we are Xenoblading the shit out of this
-while the boiling isles still exists, it's mid fight/killing a giant Archivist, who locked them in a spell mid kill. Perhaps they are both frozen in time/preserved, or asleep, hence 'sleeping isles'.
-neither of them will ever wake up.
-where their bodies make contact is a warp, likely made by titian blood and archivist magic constantly having an explosive reaction with one another
-the archivist's body isn't 'visible' immediately, or it looks wildly different outside that it does inside.
-entering the warp leads to the demon realm or the dreaming/haven realm.
-haven realm looks real similar to the boiling isles under collector's rule at first.
-the further you go from the Archivist's warp to other places like the 'Archivist's Mind, Heart, Soul, etc' the more wildly different it looks. Kinda based on Mira and the different sky islands of Baten Kaitos.
-the Mind looks like a psychedelic whimsygoth alien world fever dream
-Heart a valentine's day cupid's cloudy wonderland (kinda like diadem in baten kaitos)
-Soul probably looks like a straight split between night and day with endless shallow water that reflects the sky like a mirror
- (these could later change)
-archivist/titian war is at a standstill effectively with both King and Collector missing/being held hostage in the other's realms.
-witches and demons live in both reams and their counterparts are likely sorcerer and angels/fae (although it's theorized they're the same species or sup species of each other, but use different identities)
-Luz is sill the MC, however instead of just wanting to be a witch she wants to learn from both realms and bring em together like in her books.
- Collector is older than Canon, but not by much, maybe around Luz's age or a smidge older (16-18?) Surpresses his more joyful and happy go lucky/playfulness under a boat load of trust issues, wariness that borders on paranoia, and being mean/teases a lot in on purpose to protect himself.
-Was imprisoned for a while, but was tossed between different hands as a mirror and used for their own purposes. When he was finally freed by mistake by a cult member using titian's blood he ran and went into hiding. He can't breach the warp back into the Dreaming Realm and is stuck in the demon realm on the run trying to avoid capture.
-Highkey traumatized after seeing countless of his kin and siblings turned to mirrors and later shattered without remorse by cultist. Also viscerally aware that they're on a corpse of both a titian and their eldest siblings with no way of waking them up. Kind of in denial and wants to find a way to fix them.
-KING on the other hand. Woof. Got egg snatched and then dropped when the archivist that had him was taken out. However he still got dropped in the Dreaming.
-been hunted down relentlessly by cultists, he's just a baby y'all...
-later discovered by Belos and hidden/imprisoned in secret from both the remaining Archivists and Titans.
-Yeah Belos is still here.
-Hes a cult leader, not an emperor. Because there are still some titans he can't do the whole will of the titan nonsense.
-Caleb falls for a witch, per usual, Belos looses it, but when he arrived to the Haven, more specifically the most angelic/heaven like part of it, he mistakes it as actual heaven. Or believes it a sign from god's esp with the more 'angelic' looking Sorcerers.
-Is hell bent on wiping out the demon realm soon to cleanse his brother, but also takes out whatever doesn't fit his perception of paradise from the Haven.
-Archivists take note of this and decide not to take him out bc they want to use him. Seeing as he can cross into the Demon Realm and they can't. So they pose as capital G god or the archangels to get him to do their bidding and indulge his delusions.
-starts a cult in the Haven that wants to destroy the villainous and evil Demon Realms, and seeing his connection to the Archivist's gets the alliance/attention of the Titan trappers.
-the boiling isles has its own cult, or faction that just wants to get rid of the collector or use him to wake up the titan or blame him for their issues. It doesn't help that he antagonizes/attacks anyone on sight to protect himself.
-Eda's trying to to find a cure for herself/explore and learn magic from wherever to be the strongest witch in both worlds. Unwillingly works for Belos because she's trying to keep Lilith safe and biding time to break out King somehow.
- he threatens to send his cultist after Lilith and destroy her life's work.
-she blames herself for getting Lilith under his sights. As he already made an example of her by framing her for being a Collector sympathizer in the demon realm, painting a target on her back when Eda refused. Even before she actually was a sympathizer.
-Lilith didnt actually see there was more to the story before she was ostracized and forced to reexamine her world view
- Lilith, a historian wants to find out the truth to war and find a way to end it, or at least have better grounds than a small ceasefire. Because being able to find peace and learn the history to both worlds is how she understands how it happened at all, and maybe get access to magic from both to cure and find Eda.
-bc of her status as a sympathizer and and outsider, Collector hears this, and checks her out outta curiosity and a bit of hope to find a way home. He comes and goes, still suspicious and weary but listens to her talk history and her theories.
-genuinely scared when meeting him and what to expect of the terrifying eldritch Archivists, Lilith hold back and tries to understand him for more knowledge and not let her fear cloud her vow to seek the truth. She comes to see them as a little kid and promises that they'll both get to see their families somehow.
-they teach her his favourite games and bonds but refuses to show her his magic or tell his history bc he was forced to help others and taken advantage of before.
-more of a close teacher-mentor, or age gap friendship than parental, since they both want to get their families back and are working together. (Kinda)
-bc Luz is human and so different/joyful to be around, and indulges him by playing games and showing him new things Collector gets very attached to Luz. Despite being older they still act like a younger sibling most of the time. But he's protective of her, not wanting her to be exposed to the ugliest side of the war. Or be hurt by cultists.
That's all I have for now still in development. But I'll take any ideas and add ons for consideration is people wanna help build on this!

Owlscop
The Owl House X Petscop AU
Sprites design
I redesigned the characters' in-game Petscop sprites to fit the AU. This was very fun and I'm pretty proud of what I came up with !
Players' sprites
Golden Guardian (Guardian redesign) : This redesign follows the classic shape of the Petscop Guardian, but makes it look like the Golden Guard. It's wearing the golden Guard outfit, so does every sprite. Instead of the classic head of the Guardian, this is the Golden Gard's mask, but following the normal head shape. All the colors were color-picked from Petscop sprites to match its aesthetic. The Golden Guardian of course still doesn't have hands
There are 4 sprites for the players is Petscop. The basic one, the Guardian, is the one that represents you when you are playing the game, always. When you encounter another player though their sprite will be a Guardian with a different head. That head is something that symbolizes a specific player. This is called the Multiple Player Theory (MPT for short).
Hunter MPT Guardian : This is Hunter-Paul's avatar. Originally, Paul's avatar is called pyramid-head since its head is the red pyramid that symbolizes Care's dance. I thought : what would symbolize Hunter best ? And especially a happier Hunter ? Of course that would be Flapjack, Hunter's best friend and Palisman. Which is perfect because Flapjack is red, much like the original pyramid. It's also not a human face in both cases. To fit better the aesthetic and to symbolize the older Hunter, I decided to go with the Flapjack tattoo design as seen in Watching and Dreaming.
Belos MPT Guardian : This is Belos' avatar. It's based on Marvin's, which is originally a green mask that is quite scary in its deformity. What represents Belos needed to be green and monstrous too, which could only be his Palisman-monster face and its inhumane smile. Both Marvin's and Belos' faces are the closest to a humans face between the three MPT avatars. For this design too I tried to keep it simple with the shapes and no shading.
Amity MPT Guardian : This is Amity's avatar. It's inspired by Belle's, which is in Petscop a circle, specifically a drawing of a girl's face that we assume is Tiara aka who she thinks she is/wants to be. So for Amity, I went with the Blight Industries' logo. It represents Amity very well because it is an Abomination (what she loves most) as well as a symbol of her parents' company (who she thinks she is/should want to be, the perfect daughter, witch and heiress) and it's purple like her. It also replaces Belle's drawing perfectly since it is also a circle with a face in it.
Hunter A, B and NLM
In Petscop, we encounter care A, B and NLM in different locations. Her face in the 3 states is also drawn on a piece of paper at the beginning. She has her own sprites different from any Guardian. Since Hunter is Care in Owlscop, I changed these to look like him. Because this is Hunter-Cqre and not Hunter-Paul, the redesign looks like him back when he was the Golden Guard, especially for his outfit.
Children that went through a Rebirthing have 3 different states: A, B and NLM (Nobody Loves Me). A is for when the child is ok, B not so much and NLM is a mentally broken person.
All the colors have been color-picked from Petscop (Care and Guardian sprites).
Hunter A : This is Hunter before the abuse, as a freshly made Grimwalker. For that reason, he is a Hunter we have never seen in TOH. I removed his scar, damaged ear and characteristic dark circles. Indeed, these are all consequences of Belos' abuse. His hair though is close to what it is the first time we see him.
Hunter B : This one is close to the actual Hunter we see on TOH except more disheveled to match the evolution of Care's sprites.
Hunter NLM : This is the same design as Hunter B, but in Care NLM's pose.

Hunted Grimwalker au
Okay, another toh grimwalker au concept that was brought on by my musings about how Grimwalkers must have a lot of misconceptions floating around them, as well as demonizing and dehumanizing depictions in articles and media due to the fact that they are canonically implied to be creatures of legends in the modern era, and that clashing with a random thought about the initial plot of the movie "Space sweepers" and yeah… anyway thanks for @sergeantsporks for helping fix the initial concept in a way that it made sense.
Hunter somehow finds out about the draining spell sometime pre-canon and, after having a crisis over the fact that Belos wants to wipe out all life in the demon realm, he decides to leave, as he doesn't want part in having an entire nation die.
He isn't caught initially, but the Collector probably snitches on him but gives him a headstart cause it's more fun that way, so Hunter gets confronted by Belos on his way out the castle. During the confrontation, Belos says something about "having suspicions, but hoping it wasn't true" and "Grimwalkers being made for a purpose", but doesn't give further context before trying to kill Hunter.
Hunter does manage to escape, albeit with some wounds and heavy damage to his staff that makes it break completely soon after he escapes the castle. This is a blessing in disguise as, unbeknownst to Hunter, Belos had a tracker put in that staff.
Since Hunter didn't find out the truth about the Golden guards in this au, he still has some love and attachment towards his uncle despite everything, and even though he can't condone wiping out the entire isles, he still tries to tell himself that maybe Belos was so stricken by the tragedies wild magic causes that he came to the conclussion that this world is beyond repair and thus wants to put it out of its misery, so essentially that Belos is a man with sympathetic motives that went too far. Or maybe the Titan is unhappy with people living off of His dead body at all and wants them gone for it. Essentially, Hunter still refuses to believe Belos would do something maliciously. He doesn't have much time to think about the thing about grimwalkers Belos mentioned, until…
While he's in some town, freshly on the run, scrounging up a disguise and trying to figure out what to do next, Belos makes an isles-wide public announcement telling people about the sad discovery that who he thought was his nephew that he had taken in after his family was wiped out by wild magic was actually a grimwalker made from the bones of his real nephew by wild witches in an attempt to infiltrate the castle, and now he's on the run with vital information that could put the isles in jeopardy. Belos then gives information and description on the grimwalker, specifically noting the unnaturally intense redish-magenta eyes as a key difference between them and a real witch. So yes, Hunter has a massive bounty on his head, and is made out to be a monster you should not get deceived by as it tries to blend in with other people. Propaganda
Again, due to not knowing the whole story of the grimwalkers and Belos' family like he does in canon, and due to still having an emotional attachment to Belos and the belief that Belos at least cared for him- well, the "real" Hunter, he actually does believe the propaganda about grimwalkers himself. He just thinks that maybe some of the details have been exagerrated to make him seem more dangerous than he really is, but it's all based on truth. Belos wouldn't lie to people, he wouldn't be so harsh on his actual family, right? Big identity crisis and self-loathing ensues.
He hesitates to even think of himself as Hunter anymore due to the fact that it's supposed to be the "real" Hunter's name, and he's just a copy made from his bones. But he didn't know that, and this was the only name he'd ever known, so who is he then? Maybe it's not important, it's not like he really has many chances to tell anyone his name nowadays anyway.
Hunter manages to find some tinted glasses and goggles to hide his eyes.
He sleeps in multiple abandoned beast burrows and it's actually oddly comfortable due to being subconsciously reminded of the earth he grew in.
Remember guys, there is no Flapjack yet. He is completely alone at first.
He mostly survives off the foraging skills he gained in scout training and, with his selkiedomus skin, he dives into the boiling sea to retrieve items to sell.
He sells to Eda sometimes. She does not know he's a grimwalker at first.
Hunter knows about the Day of unity plans, but since mostly everyone is trying to kill him without even waiting for an explanation, that information is useless if nobody will believe him. So he knows the world will end in a year, and he's powerless to stop it, especially when he's struggling to survive at all.
Hunter believes the stuff about being created to infiltrate, thinking that maybe his nature made his betrayal of Belos inevitable, and he did complete his purpose now, so at first he's like: "Okay so if wild witches made me to infiltrate Belos, and it turns out that Belos is planning something bad, then maybe wild witches are okay? No, but if they still killed a kid to do this- but maybe it was a sacrifice they had to make, since everyone will die from the draining spell anyway? So, now that I know parts of his plan, do I find the wild witches that created me and report back to them? Will I be disposed of afterwards? Will I die automatically after the task is complete?!"
He spends some time going around trying to find his creators. It is a very weird experience for both parties involved.
Hunter, coming up to Eda: "Did you make me?"
Eda: "Did I WHAT!?"
If you couple this with the trans Eda headcanons that I saw a few times in the fandom, along with the fact that Caleb is actually related to the Clawthornes and Hunter does have some Clawthorne-typical traits himself, Eda could deadass have a moment where she's like, thinking back on some of the exes she had around 16-ish years ago, like "Shit, did I?"
She figures out he's a grimwalker soon enough, but boy were those some stressful few minutes. And then she realizes that that's the grimwalker she's talking to and yeah this situation's a mess. (This scenario probably won't be canon, at least not completely, but I put it in cause it was funny and the entire rest of the au is sad af)
Eda doesn't believe Belos is telling the true story about the grimwalker, but due to the fact that Eda was an urban legend junkie, she read up on a lot of misconception-ladden legends about grimwalkers, so she's still wary of Hunter at first. She has a talk with Bat Queen once the subject is brought up during a potion delivery, since Bat Queen was alive back when grimwalkwers were still around, and she confirms that most of this stuff Belos is saying is untrue. That and seeing the very obviously beat up and constantly on-edge kid convinces her that this is really just a kid in a really bad situation.
Both Eda and Bat Queen try to offer help, but Hunter is for obvious reasons distrustful and only ever accepts help with a metaphorical ten foot pole. They later accounted for that by providing help in equally roundabout ways.
There is more stuff to this au but that's all I'm writing for now.

Your nanowrimo pieces are soooo goooood they hit so hard fr fr. I’m especially LOVING today’s one with the owl & the collector even tho I don’t rlly know that much abt toh bc I haven’t watched it but I can tell that u LOVE IT & I can’t wait to learn more thru osmosis once the fic is poooosteeeed✨ (i WILL read it i PROMISE i SWEAR)
Anyways give us the thoughts, the tea, tell us how you make the words do that✨ anything u wanna give in regards to today’s bit!! We’re not picky!
Hope y’all are doing okay! Gal says hi :) Remember to eat and drink something, take breaks, and look after yourselves and each other! We love you! This has been a Daily Interaction Ask <3
he he :3 im glad youre enjoying!! its been really fun to pick out my favorite bits even when usually those are the ones w/out context lol. look at my owl and weep boy. firefly <3
YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH VIA OSMOSIS....literally now that im also doing something for s1 its like. why watch owl house we have owl house at home (the owl house at home is a 1 million word daemon au) (<- 1 mil is not a joke btw idk if it'll hit it but itll at least come very close. no idk why i did this.)
as for today! hmmm...
its truly so fun to write the collector. like im not joking about him being my favorite owl house character despite his maybe twenty total minutes of screentime, so its been such a JOY to expand his role in this series!!
bc like. god. actually i think i wrote a whole like. bit of flash fiction/prose poetry type thing for them a while ago. probably in my files somewhere. but just. youre an immortal eight year old. you are in these years where you need to interact with other people for your own mental stability and health. to figure out the whole Being A Person thing. and you are trapped for like, centuries. trapped away from everyone and everything and DUST, which, in universe, in literally connection personified. you're cut off from all of this.
and you are, let me say again, eight years old.
truly the collector is just. hes had everyone he ever cares about leave him--his siblings the other archivists left him behind not out of any sense of cruelty, really, but because caring about people just isnt really a thing they do. quite frankly they live so long they didnt even notice. theyre far-away stars. not far because they're mean. just because thats what stars do.
and then king's dad (who um. doesnt have a name <3 this is why the collector calls him 'the big bully' its literally bc i never gave him a name--) was an adult the collector actually trusted and looked up to (he meshed REALLY WELL into titan society until the archivists started Doing A Murder since titans are the only beings that match them in power and they have very very different ideas about dust). like ive said before the collector is owlbeastkin but before that they never had a super stable sense of identity--in another world where they stayed w/ the titans they wouldve ended up a titan.
and then king's dad just. trapped him in a tablet forever.
and like, to be fair to king's dad he was reacting out of fear and the best knowledge he had (he assumed the collector led the archivists to the titans, and like, he did, but its not like he knew he was doing that, and, you know, poor guy had seen a huge chuck of his fellow titans killed including babies and eggs of which he had an egg to consider), but it still TRAPPED THEM. and then he died and so did all the rest of the titans so nobody could free the collector even if they wanted to.
and then BELOS, who manipulated and lied to the collector for so long and was also literally his only friend after being alone forever, so like, of course the collector just blindly went along with whatever he said. he was gonna free them!! he listened to them when they talked about stardust which nobody else ever did! he had no idea what the fuck a witch was! he just liked being able to see the stardust sometimes, and belos brought him to places with a lot of stardust. to destroy it, but like--you know. it was THERE.
but all these people were just USING them, and they never really understand that until king comes around. and king's also a scared eight year old!! but like. king's also not wrong. the collector did aid belos in destroying the entire isles. like no joke belos SUCCEEDS here. like not long-term obvi this has a happy ending but at the point we're in at for the future? it doesnt matter that the draining spell failed. all the palistrom trees are dead. witch society Cannot come back from that even if they did end up beating the collector. theyre doomed.
anyways what was i saying. collector. right.
so like, then they meet firefly/grr-click-growl/wings-across-night/the owl beast (king of having so many names i love her <3) and shes like, the first person who cares for them and ISNT using them. even king is using them!! but firefly has seen Some Shit. she sees the collector as a hatchling who was kicked out of his nest and is doing her best to be some sort of stable figure for him, but she doesnt Not see the stuff he's done.
the collector took over the world bc he's scared--all he's ever known is being used and trapped so he doesnt exactly trust most people easily. firefly would Love to not be in this world anymore. shes also got a loyalty to eda and king and luzmari. and, like, cool motive, still trapping an entire society of people.
but like. shes the one who is here right now and nobody else is trying to help this kid.
but the collector just. hes just an eight year old. a very, very old eight year old. but he doesnt understand things like "you can make the wrong choices and still choose to do better later" and "im mad at what you did but that doesnt mean i dont care about you."
he just sees someone upset with him. just sees another person who used him and doesnt care and is going to leave bc everyone leaves him and in a world where EVERY SINGLE PERSON comes in pairs, hes the only one who stands alone.
basically tl;dr: collector my beloved <3

Bridgerton Inspired TOH AU.
Duke of Gravesfield, Hunter Wittebane (using this surname for the sake of the story. It will be changed) is an orphan who has recently lost his only known family member, his uncle Philip. Hes not upset or grievance though. He’s relieved and happy because he’s finally free. Marquise Deamonne takes him under his wing and together, they move to a different region. His current home held too many sour memories. Darius witnessed how he’d been treated. In this new town, he meets Willow Park, daughter of Harvey & Gilbert Park, two wealthy floriculturists well known for managing all floral arrangements for important social events. Hunter, adamant to stay single in fear of him causing nothing but pain to anyone close to him, pushes her away, ignoring the love and affection he feels for her. He can only ignore his feelings for so long.
Willow is in doubt if the Duke even remotely likes her. She’s receiving mixed signals. Anytime Hunter shows any sort of affection, he ignores her for an extended period of time.
In a moment of weakness after a rather nasty argument with Boscha, she storms away from the party. After witnessing it, Hunter follows her. She compulsively takes out her frustration on him. She forces him to talk to her, asking if he gains any sort of satisfaction toyingwith her feelings. She’s too upset to register the words coming out of her mouth. Hunter feels like he owes her an explanation (because he does). He admits he’s fallen deeply in love with her, but he also tells her why he’s acted the way he has.
Hunter takes Lady Park’s last name when they marry, erasing all connections to his family and his past and starting anew.
Amity Blight is destined to marry Vee Noceda per her mother's orders. Neither of them want that marriage to take place. Amity instead falls for Vee's older sister. Luz was hoping to leave her mother and sister well and comfortable so she could finally explore the world and follow her dreams. The Blights can provide that for Vee and Camila.
Vee on the other hand, is only doing it to make her mom and sister happy. Amity is as well. The approval of their parents mean everything to them.
Vee meets Masha, a young adult around her age from a less fortunate part of town. They talk, and for the first time, Vee doesn’t have to consider every word she says. She doesn’t have a bunch of snobby rich people to impress. She doesn’t have to measure her words with caution and worry her arrangement with the Blight family will fall through if she didn’t act proper.
On the day of the wedding, Vee doesn’t show. Amity is upset she’s disappointed her family and ruined their plans. She runs off, and Luz quickly follows to comfort her while Camila leaves in search of her other daughter. Luz tells Amity exactly what she needs to hear. She tells her she’s amazing, perfect. She hasn’t failed anyone, and she shouldn’t have to worry about what everyone thinks. Amity impulsively kisses her.

A Post-Series Collector AU
So, over the past few days, due to my Collector brainrot and new AU, I ended up creating a concept for a show idea based very loosely on my Servitude Collector AU. I actually kinda wanna make into an actual show now, and I’ve actually put it in my folder of “Ideas That I Legitimately Want to Pitch to a Network”, which only has, like, three or so things in it.
I wasn’t going to talk about any of it on Tumblr (since I’m a bit paranoid about someone stealing my ideas or networks thinking that I had stolen my own ideas), but recently, after having finished the finale for TOH, I realized that this concept was exactly what the Collector fandom needed. So I changed some stuff up a bit (both for the show concept and for the AU), and have decided to put it out there as its own little AU thing. You’re welcome.
Spoilers for TOH finale:
As some of you may know, at the end of the finale, the Collector decided to leave the Boiling Isles and explore the universe to figure themselves out. This may have been unsatisfying to many, as the kid is in desperate need of proper friends and a good family, and they honestly shouldn’t just go off completely alone.
I felt the same way, and decided that they probably spent some time exploring the universe and making friends all over the place, each of whom taught him important life lessons.
I thought that that sounded like a fun idea, and whilst thinking a bit about it, I remembered that show concept I was working on. I realized that the basics of it worked way too well, because it is very much a found family story that takes place in space, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was exactly what the Collector needed.
It would definitely involve them going around the universe and making new friends whilst learning life lessons that they really need, but it would also make sure they weren’t alone whilst doing it. They could grow alongside someone, and that person could learn from him.
So I quickly wrote down the basics for this AU idea, and I’m pretty proud of it. But first, before I explain it, I need to explain one important thing.
Okay, so I didn’t want to talk too much about my original show concept, and it will go in a pretty different direction in comparison to this AU, but I will tell you one thing about it. By the way, I actually wrote my show concept’s main character long before I thought up this AU as a whole. The reason I say that is because you may think that because it will sound ridiculous, but trust me, this was actually my plan for my original story and OC. Okay, here it is:
The main character for my original story is a 30 y/o conspiracy theorist with a degree in astrophysics who is determined to prove that there are aliens on the moon (among other conspiracy theories). I’m not kidding. I was trying to think of a backstory for my human MC, and I thought to myself: “wouldn’t it be funny if he was a comedically paranoid conspiracy theorist who flipped between playing the straight man and the wacky one? Wouldn’t it be wild?”
I had everything for him planned out, from his personality to his motives to how he met the show’s version of the Collector (all the characters in my show are very different from the ones I’ll be using in this AU, and many elements of the plot will be different too). I love him so much. He’s so smart and normal and yet so stupid and chaotic and possibly has psychosis (that will be portrayed sympathetically).
Whilst turning this into an AU type thing, I considered making an OC for this AU, since we don’t really have any characters in the Human Realm who would fit his role and other important elements of his characters, such as stuff related to his character arc.
Then I remembered.
There is a character who fills all the criteria I need for this AU, possibly even more than I could possibly think of.
A character who has some pretty significant similarities to my Human OC (though not the same personality).
A character who doesn’t have any real attachments on Earth, and whom I can do whatever I want with.
A character who didn’t need a character arc, but could suddenly get one in my AU.
A character who I hate, but can work and even have fun with.
A character who could bounce of the Collector so well in terms of banter.
A character who could honestly fit amazingly with the kind of story I want to tell.
You know who he is.
I know who he is.
It’s a character that nobody expected me to use for anything!
It’s........
....
....
....
Jacob Hopkins, the conspiracy theorist who kidnapped Vee that one time
.............................................ok hear me out-
Let me just explain my basic idea. It will all make sense.
The AU’s Plot:
So, the AU starts out after the Collector has been bopping around through space for a few weeks after leaving in the finale. He wants to make friends, but isn’t sure how to make the first step, and he’s afraid of messing it up somehow. They tried going around to different planets, but kept chickening out in fear of rejection. They eventually land on an abandoned planet and sit next to a mysterious structure. This is important.
But not right now.
Now, let’s go look at Earth for a bit. Specifically, one particular human: Jacob Hopkins.
Jacob is, to be frank, a fucking loser. He’s a conspiracy theorist with no job and very few friends and has been deemed the “town crazy guy” that nobody really likes all that much. In order to prove that there are 100% extraterrestrials on Mars, he decided to secretly build a spaceship that would launch him into outer space and all the way to the planet, where he would finally find aliens and take pictures of them to bring back to Earth with him.
He has finally finished building it (as well as bought an actual space suit), and we see him open a package he got from the darkweb with a mysterious crystal inside it. The seller told Jacob that it’s basically a special type of rocket fuel, though we the audience know that something is definitely up. He puts the thing in his ship, gets on his spacesuit, gathers his supplies, and finally gets ready to launch.
He finally launches his ship into the sky, and part way up, it seems like it’s obviously not gonna make it. Jacob quickly realizes that this is a terrible idea, but it’s too late, as he’s already thousands of feet in the air. He closes his eyes, ready to accept his fate, but suddenly, the crystal inside the fuel tank starts glowing, and, in a really cool looking bit of animation, a wormhole appears in front of the spaceship. The ship flies straight through it and out a familiar looking structure: the structure which the Collector was sitting next to.
Meanwhile, the Collector, startled by the spaceship which just crashed next to them, hides behind a rock, and chooses to simply observe for now. Jacob finally opens his eyes, and realizes he is still alive, and on a totally different planet. He puts on his helmet and gets out, amazed at it. The Collector, seeing this slightly confused but harmless looking human, decides to finally introduce themselves. He walks up behind Jacob and simply says hi.
Jacob is at first horribly startled, then amazed. A real life alien. He starts basically fangirling and takes multiple pictures of the Collector, who is very confused. I’m having a hard time figuring out how to explain some of this next part, but Jacob eventually realizes that they aren’t on Mars and the Collector isn’t a Martian or even from that planet. He is disappointed, but then gets curious about the Collector’s deal.
The Collector explains that they’re traveling the universe to find friends, but even though they’ve seen so many different beings, they aren’t really having any luck with making friends yet. Jacob sees an opening, and says that if he could come along with the Collector, they could be friends. The Collector gets excited at this, then suspicious, and asks if Jacob is trying to manipulate them or something. Jacob, who currently has no morals, chooses lying. Even though he is kinda bad at it, he manages to convince the star child, because this kid is really desperate and bad at telling when people are lying to him. The Collector agrees, and they pinky promise, before the Collector asks if they can use Jacob’s ship to travel.
Blah blah blah, stuff about wormholes, blah blah blah, Collector improves the ship and suit a bit, blah blah blah, other plot stuff. Then they both get in the ship and start heading off. Whilst getting ready to wormhole jump, Jacob says that he never got the Collector’s name.
The Collector almost introduces themselves as The Collector, but then hesitates for reasons that will be revealed later. He finally decides to introduce himself as “Coco”. Jacob introduces himself, and they wormhole jump.
Most of the story (until it gets a bit more plot heavy) involves the pair traveling from planet to planet and helping people out whilst learning important life lessons that will be important to both of their arcs. I decided to not make any original worlds (didn’t want this particular AU to be too OC heavy), and instead decided to do something a bit more fun and easy with it. Basically, every new planet will basically be a crossover with something else, like an Amphibia crossover (though it’s implied that Amphibia and TOH both take place in the same world, so…) and a Gravity Falls crossover and a ton of other increasingly bizarre crossovers. While this is happening, there is a mysterious pair of bounty hunter type people who are tracing the Collector down, and the duo needs to keep escaping and outsmarting them, which is one of the reasons they keep going to different planets. The plot (which involves the Collector’s siblings) will pick up later, but I will write it all out in another post.
For now, that’s the basic premise!
There are a few major differences between my OCs and Coco/Jacob that will significantly change the story and vibes.
First off, my space child OC is very morbid, but much more self aware than the Collector, and also a bit younger. The two are both similar and very different, and that will heavily affect their respective character arcs.
There’s also my MC and Jacob, who are both very similar and very different. They may both be slightly unhinged conspiracy theorists, but their personalities are very different, and my MC is a bit more chill than Jacob.
On top of that, in my original story, I am relatively nice to my conspiracy theorist man, as he does mean well, he’s just…….himself. However, I refuse to be nice to Jacob. I will stop being mean to him once he gets far enough into his character arc and starts actually seeing the error of his ways and begins becoming a better person. That will take a bit, as I don’t want his change to be too immediate or seem OOC, but I will have him change and eventually become more likable, but in an earned way.
There is another major difference between the two stories. In my original story, the two main characters (basically the Collector and Jacob) develop a bit of a parent-child relationship, and it mainly starts out with the human guy feeling awkward and anxious whilst the star child is simply amazed by and affectionate towards him. That is not the case here. At the beginning of the AU, “Coco” and Jacob start out willing to give each other a chance, but their main dynamic is a bit less wholesome and a bit more “being annoyed with each other”. Overtime, however, they gain an almost sibling(?)-like relationship, and still banter a lot, but it becomes more friendly. This is honestly more of a story about the pair learning to become better and less self centered people through each other.
Most of the plot and many of the characters will be incredibly different from my show concept (most of my OCs won’t even appear in this AU), but I will also be using many types of ideas from it. I want my personal project to be unique and its own thing, but I also think some of it would work and could satisfy the Collector fanbase without battling canon. It could give the Collector a happy ending, and, fuck, it could even give my least favorite character a happy ending of sorts.
It will also follow some of the same themes as my show idea, but not all of them, and it will bring some new ideas into the mix. Its main themes (both shared and not shared with my story) are found family, friendship, kindness, redemption, purpose, responsibility, mortality, forgiveness, trauma, change, and probably some other stuff that will pop up as I go along.
I’m probably gonna call this: “Jacob & Coco Across the Universe”
Hopefully ya’ll think it sounds cool. I’m still gonna be putting out stuff for my Servitude Collector AU (since I still love it), but I’m also gonna focus a bit on this little AU and make it a fun thing to feed the fandom with.

Fanon Brothers Wittebane Week: Day 7
Well, this is the end folks.
Tumblr media
This week was.. something, I can tell you that. But I dont regret being a part of it one bit. At least now I know how actually productive I can be.. I am still a little bit impressed that I managed to get 1 art in a day. It was hard, yes.. but I did it! Hooray!!
Want to add something related to the It could have been different" AU on the Belos Simp Coven discord server. This image will not be particularly canon to it, because, I think, Belos wont get his palisman, at least untill the season 3. It is because he, as much as Luz, couldnt really formulate his wish. "World domination" didnt work. He tried many times but nothing got even close to make his palisman to wake up. So, Philip decided that it is a waste of time and got deep into the artificial magic stuff.
(His true wish was to be understood btw)
Fanon Week started by @the-epileptic-toh-blog. And thank you.

oh I have some questions if you're taking!
11: Link your three favorite fics right now
45: Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh?
70: When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
Thanks so much for the ask! Asks come from this post.
11: Link your three favorite fics right now
This is so hard. There are so many good fanfics out there.
I will always love @sercezgazety's/theprincessofdenial's A Potter's Field. It was written before For the Future aired, and is a darker look at how post-Belos life and political restructuring/lustration could look like, particularly for the former Golden Guard. I appreciate how the story is also told/supplemented through other media (like archaeological field notes), and the whole fic matches my academic interests pretty closely (studied anthro, politics, Eastern Europe, democratization, etc. once upon a time). Full disclosure: I did beta read it and was generally a chapter or two ahead of other readers, so that made the comment section even more fun. In general, I highly recommend the comment section of all theprincessofdenial's fics in addition to the fics themselves.
After a long stretch of being most interested in genfic (especially in the TOH fandom), Nimona has gotten me into shippy stuff again. I'm enjoying @peachblossom-odyssey's/LiterallyThePresident's how familiar the danger series because it's an interesting concept for an AU (Ballister doesn't become a knight), the universe is dark/gritty, and all the Ballister/Ambrosius interactions are fire.
I also really like @thegrimshapeofyoursmile's Strange Infatuations series since I am a sucker for worldbuilding, especially worldbuilding based on research.
45: Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh?
Both? One of my favorite books - Under the Whispering Door - made me cry actual tears and laugh out loud, so that kind of emotional rollercoaster is something I aspire to.
A good chunk of my writing falls into bittersweet, but even my "funny" fics like World's Best Turkey Carver and LuluRoe include nods at grief. My most angsty fics tend to be short and follow canon closely - I haven't invented much new angst for the blorbos.
I'm a little proud that I get this kind of range of comments across my fics (yes, I re-read comments as a pick-me-up and cherish each and every one):
"I don't know if i should laugh or cry ahdjshjd"
"Thank you for making me look like an idiot in front of my roommate! I laughed way too hard at that part."
"Aaaaahhh this hurt. This hurt me. Akkskssmzndkdk"
"This gave me such a quiet, sweet little heartache."
"I want to cry but I'm in a public place"
"I love this so much! Though you will be paying my therapy bills"
"It took me over an hour to finish reading this fic because I kept laughing so hard kdnfjskdkfmdkdkfjdk Oh my god, I had like twenty different giggling fits."
70: When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
It wasn't until after I posted my third TOH fic that I confessed to my long-term partner that I was writing again and shared my AO3 username. There's just something about writing that exposes a bit of your soul, and having my writing connected to me as a person can feel mortifying.
I have mentioned to a few people that I write fanfic without linking to my work, and that's been easier (sometimes to friends/acquaintances who are also in fandom spaces, sometimes to my real life professional writer friends/acquaintances in a "I am but a humble amateur but still can relate somewhat to your writing vent post/your messed up Google algorithm" sort of way).
Basically, I don't consider amateur writing (fanfic or otherwise) embarrassing, but am more personally shy about sharing what I write with people who know me in real life.

hi!! sorry if this has been asked before but i wanted to know if u had a specific editing process? ive read before that u edited ur fics for 6-8 hours and wanted to know what those hours consisted of, technically speaking, if its not too much trouble!!
hello!!
this is a really good question. i want to do it justice but breaking down every single detail of my editing process would take a VEEEERY long time. so i'll give more of an overview
some fics have a Much more involved editing process than others. so i can walk you through what both "processes" look like, step-wise. my most involved process produces the best work but is also the most time-consuming and exhausting.
to start, though: you gotta understand my first draft process. because whenever i tell other writers about how i draft, their responses range from "that's insane" to "that's so smart" to "that's insane. again."
i don't reread anything when i draft.
and i mean Anything. i don't reread a single sentence. i don't reread my phrasing as i'm writing it. i don't even check to make sure that my sentences make sense.
i just write out the entire story as i'm hearing / imagining it in my head. whatever moments, beats, dialogue, Whatever is most important to me. i don't edit as i go, i don't look back. if i can't think of details or lose my flow, i put [add X here] and keep going.
i usually have a bullet-point outline before i draft -- that's my scribbled concept sketch. my first draft is the equivalent to the slightly less scribbly concept sketch. it takes a MAXIMUM of one-third of my entire writing time.
the other two-thirds (or more!) are editing.
so basically. editing is where i reread what i wrote, identify weak spots and pacing issues, revise my dialogue, improve my metaphors, bulk up my imagery..... it's like doing all of the painstaking lining and coloring and shading of a very involved art project.
with my Most involved editing process, i open a new document beside the first draft. i write an entire second draft from scratch, using my first document as reference. that lets me keep all the important beats, rearrange stuff, go more in-depth with detail, etc. THEN i reread that second draft and do all of my fussing.
with my less involved editing process, i just reread and edit the first draft instead of creating an entire second draft. i also do fewer editing passes.
(the involved process includes editing the whole document once, putting it down for a few hours, then starting over from the beginning and editing the Edited Version all over again.)
it might be easier for me to show you the differences in fic quality, for you to get a sense of how the editing process affects things.... rather than trying to describe exactly what i look for / change / do / etc.
so. here's three recent (ish) toh fics
humans are friends. AND food - no editing.
why did love put a gun in my hand (and all other parts of this series) - basic first draft editing.
what we are is the sum of a thousand lies - 2 to 3 full drafts per chapter, 3 to 5 editing passes per chapter, ~30,000 words of outtakes beyond that.
with that vampire AU fic (#1), you can see that it's short, it's quick, it's silly and fun. it's not emotionally deep. it doesn't make much sense. it's very clearly based on Vibes instead of a fully considered story.
the princess luz fic (#2) is Significantly more involved. the increased detail here is partially because this is a horror series instead of a stupid humor romp, but the principle is the same.
all of luz's internal narration about her fear, the pacing of her interactions and confrontations with belos n hunter alike, the ugly body horror and the way she comforted the dying grimwalker... that's all from the editing process. the bare bones were there in my first draft, but my edits were where i got to make things Effective.
basically, i wrote the horror story the way i saw it in my mind. and then during the edit, i could ask questions like - what would make this worse? what is she really afraid of? what is the most LUZ reaction that she could have in this situation? what's the most effective way to show the differences between this luz and canon luz, and the similarities? etc etc etc. all those little details!
then you have wwaitsoatl. which is by Far the most energy-intensive fic i've ever written. that's part of why updates are so sporadic despite there being well over a thousand subscribers at the moment (FAR more than any of my other fics have ever had).
the reason that this fic requires so many drafts and editing passes is because of the sheer complexity of the characterization. the plot is pretty generic, as toh fics go - hunter gets kidnapped away from the castle and learns how to be loved, this fic has been written 100000 times before in 100000 different ways by 100000 different authors.
BUT. every single one of the four narrators in this particular story is unreliable in different ways. every single one has different priorities, motivations, baggage, feelings, levels of emotional intelligence. all four of them are in massive conflict with one another.
the conflicts Between the characters are similarly complicated, so i have to spend a LOOOONG time on all of the dialogue & interactions. these guys do a LOT of projecting, and arguing, and talking at cross-purposes, and making incorrect assumptions, and lying, and obfuscating, and on and on and on. clear communication is basically impossible.
the internal narration also requires a similar level of care. hunter and darius in particular have incredibly challenging POVs to write because all of their narration is tied up in denial, self-delusion, and facades.
hunter's nightmares, cognitive dissonance, and slow breakdowns take Hours And Hours And Hours to get right. same goes for darius's feelings and the things he says and the things he Doesn't say. i literally study every single individual sentence and rewrite it like 15 times, then study every individual paragraph and rewrite and rearrange them like 15 times. and if a scene isn't working, i cut it entirely, even when that adds up to 30,000 words of outtakes.
it's my most ambitious fic by a longshot and i'm confident in saying it's my best work to date. but hoo boy, it is WORK.
so. that's my editing process, basically! and how my editing process changes my final product.

20 Questions for Writers
Thanks for the tag @serenbex!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 31
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
137,690
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Doctor Who, but also RWBY, Star Wars, and a bunch of other stuff, most recently I've been writing for Dimension 20
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Build This House Into a Home: an NCIS au where Gibbs adopts a bunch of children (genuinely don't know why this had the most)
Not Again: a crossover between Gravity Falls and Amphibia
Everything After: a RWBY fic about the fallout of volume 9, which is currently unfinished but Im working on it I swear
I Beg to Differ: Also a RWBY fic about Yang and Ruby recovering from the events of volume 9
Mates: The Doctor and Donna being best friends :)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! Mostly! I really try to respond to all of them but sometimes I forget to and then feel weird responding three months later
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Uhhhhh
angsiest fics as a whole is probably I Beg to Differ or Carry On, but my only one with an actual angsty ending is This Time which is a drabble about the Fifth doctor in the Caves of Androzani
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Yes.
Jokes aside its probably either Sunrise or The Many Proposals of Nyssa and Tegan since those end with couples getting together and marriage etc.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully not yet!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I've only written one so far! It was a crossover between Gravity Falls and Amphibia. I've had one planned for ages between ToH, GF, and Amphibia but haven't finished it.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, but I'd be down to try it sometime
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Don't do this to me
My favorite to write is probably Nyssa and Tegan? But I also love Bumbleby. And Imodna. And Beauyasha. and so many others. Dont make me pick
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I live in a world of clownery where I fully intended to finish all wips eventually (ignore the fact that some haven't been updated in literal years)(I'm working on them I swear)
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm pretty good at characterization and voice. I've also gotten a lot better at description and image recently
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
action scenes can and will kill me. also I don't know why I write romance so much seeing as I have literally never dated anyone. Also I tend to struggle with longer projects, although I'm much better at it than I used to be.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Its fine but I prefer to be familiar with the language before writing it. And seeing as other than English I only know Latin, ancient greek, and ASL it doesn't come up often when writing fic
19. First fandom you wrote for?
...I plead the fifth
(It was ncis. on ff.net. like four years ago.)
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
ohhhhhh that's hard. I love The Many Proposals of Nyssa and Tegan, both because of the fic itself and also because it introduced me to some lovely fandom friends. Everything After is one I am particularly proud of, as is Raising Our Glass, I don't know if I could pick one
Tagging @social-mockingbird @writing-my-mind-ink and anyone else who wants to join :)

Hey there! Remember that post I made on my art blog that hyped some of you up for a fic that marks a certain milestone in my writing (my first multi-chapter fic)?
Well… in this post, I present the first official chapter. First though, I wanna give a quick rundown of what Tide of Tied Minds is: it’s an AU scenario where Hooty doesn’t eat Tarak’s letter, so the trip to Titan Trapper Island - and subsequent connection with the Collector - happens earlier in the TOH timeline. I made this fic mainly to explore this connection, since it’s a topic I’ve been curious abt ever since it was introduced in the show.
This will be a relatively short endeavor, abt 6 chapters, and it won’t be, like, a story with back-to-back chapters, but rather a bunch of my ideas that I’ve woven into a more cohesive, chronological thing - so there’ll be time gaps between chapters. Maybe I’ll do a fic like that one day, but for now, this one is mainly just meant to be a character-focused thing exploring a concept at many different points on a timeline.
Everyone got that squared away? Good; without further ado, enjoy the show!
Tide of Tied Minds
Chapter 1: Middle Ground
Summary: After his first dream-encounter with the mysterious fella known as the Collector, King grows curious and decides to see if he can find out more about this being and the place that contains them.
Chapter Word Count: 1,216
Trigger Warnings: Out-of-body experience (just in case)
-
King is asleep.
Sleep was always one of the places he felt safest. After all, who would dare intrude upon the king of all demons during his precious naptime hours?
Later, after finding out that that whole thing was a mere fantasy, sleep offered a break from the new trials and tribulations that came with figuring himself out and setting his life straight.
In recent days, though, sleep feels more like… a gamble. There’s no telling if the next dream will end up being an average one or something that feels like more than just a product of his mind.
King peels his eyes open, and finds himself surrounded by strange, marble-like rock formations overhanging a pitch-dark lake with a small shipwreck.
Welp. Case in point.
This isn’t the first time he’s been here. The first time, he walked away with some questions for sure, but otherwise didn’t think much of it. Now, though…
I need answers.
King slowly pivots in the air until he’s facing the large bubble several paces above him.
And I think I have an idea of who could provide them.
The young Titan clears his throat, steels himself, and calls out into the teal-tinted void. “Hello?”
The response from the suddenly visible shadow is almost immediate. “Who’s ther- wait…”
The Collector’s silhouette pauses, gears definitely turning in their mind.
“It’s you.”
“Yep.”
“You… came back?”
“Mm-hm.”
“But… how do you keep getting here? Who are you?”
Nope. Can’t answer either of those.
“Can you see me up there?” King asks, pointing his snout up at the orb. The Collector shrugs, so he paddles upward and perches on a jagged rock, face-to-face with the being.
The silhouette’s eyes widen, as if actually seeing King for the first time. “You’re his kid. But, here… ? Waaaiit…” The Collector tips their head, a glint of wary curiosity in his narrowed eyes. “Did you come to check up on me? Make sure I’m still here?” Their mouth gives a wry twist. “Trust me, I’m going nowhere.”
King blinks. “What? No, no, I have no idea how I’m even ending up here - wherever “here” is. Seriously, what is this place?”
The Collector lifts a finger and gives the bubble around him a halfhearted jab. “It’s like this pocket dimension that’s between aallll the other realms. Makes it a… pretty convenient prison,” they add in a mutter.
A short silence ensues, only interrupted by the occasional tap and scrape made against the inside of the cosmic orb as the Collector flicks glances at King. Finally they drift down and press their hands against the spherical surface, studying him intently.
“What’s your name?” They ask.
“Um. King.”
“King. I knew you when you were just an egg, y’know. I’ve always wanted to play with you, but your dumb old dad wouldn’t let me - kept saying it was ‘too dangerous’, whatever that was supposed to mean. I can’t believe we finally get to- well… I guess there aren’t a lot of games we can play here, are there?” The Collector frowns, tapping their chin, his gaze sweeping across the void. “Hmm… we’re still talking, though, and I don’t get to do that a lot here either. Usually I just talk to myself, but this is… different. In a good way.”
Silence falls once again. As King processes what he’s just been told, he can’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the Collector. This curious being seems… lonely. Lonely, but somewhat numb to it. Just how long has this kid - at least, King assumes they’re a kid - been in here? Thinking back to their first encounter, the Collector had only just realized King was present before he’d desperately begged the young Titan not to leave.
It’s a desperation King’s become painfully familiar with.
I did come across someone on that island who knows what it’s like to be left behind, after all.
He lowers himself until he’s lying comfortably on the precipice, his front paws tucked underneath himself.
I just had the wrong ones.
“Hey, so… if you want, I could, y’know… stay here. For a bit longer.”
The Collector perks up immediately, their face brightening. “Would you?”
King nods. “I figure it’s the least I can do, y’know?”
With that, the two talk until they run out of topics, and when King finally wakes, he feels a bit more… resolved than he has in a long while.
-
“Are you sure he can be counted on?”
This is the first question King poses during his third visit to the place he now knows is called the In-Between. As soon as he asks it, he knows the conversation’ll take an interesting turn.
The Collector whips around, eyes locked onto King. “What do you mean? Why shouldn’t I be?”
Taken off guard by the edge in the shadow figure’s voice, King chooses his next words carefully. “I mean… if you’ve seen firsthand how he gives false promises to people he needs things from, where… where are you getting the hope that he’ll uphold his end of your deal?”
The Collector holds up a finger as if about to protest, but then drops it, as well as his gaze. They stay silent for a long moment, fidgeting, before releasing their tension in a drawn-out sigh. “Fine, you’ve got a point. I guess. It probably is a little weird that he got Titan blood, like, a week ago, and he still wants to wait until the Day of Unity to actually use it. He was all weird about it, too. All secretive, when he first got it; if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear he’d been trying to hide it from me.” The cosmic entity gives his head a quick, irritated shake. “He’s got to have his reasons, though. He’s got to. Right?” They look over at King, almost desperately. “…right?”
When King doesn’t respond, their face falls a little, and they drop their gaze again. “Cause, I-I mean, if he doesn’t, then that means…” He gives a huff of forced laughter, a pained smile creasing the edges of their mouth. “That means he’s been lying to me for 400 years, and I really will be stuck here forever, and that just can’t happen.”
Their voice breaks, and he lowers his head into his hands, curling around himself slightly.
A promise is a weighty thing; King knows that well. He can only imagine what might come with making a promise you can’t keep, or never intend to keep - and can only hope the option bubbling up in his mind won’t end up carrying those consequences.
As the silence stretches on, the Collector parts two of their fingers slightly to give King a brief glance. He has a hunch that he knows what that glance means - though, regardless of whether or not that hunch is true, King knows what he has to do.
“If he doesn’t free you…” King floats over to the bubble and rests a paw on its marbled surface, “I will.”
The Collector blinks, puts their own hand against the orb, and curls in every digit until only his pinkie finger is retaining the contact. “…pinkie swear?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, King does the same with his paw. “Pinkie swear.”

How do you design the outfits for people (like your GG ocs and young Darius/Eberwold and stuff) They're all so pretty!!
Thank you! I was actually thinking of one day making a post about how i make up witchy outfits! This ask isnt going to be that but Im glad to answer my process!
In short, its a lot of observation, references and extrapolating from there
And here's the long version:
For younger Darius and Eber i mostly did small changes to these outfits i did when they were even younger, around 17, with some changes + adding some flare of their current outfits as well
Tumblr media
And in turn, for Darius' outfit i took inspiration from the photo in reaching out where he's booing Alador + the boots he used in TTBK.
Eber was mostly improvised, kept the main aspects of his current outfit (and the hollow mind one too), the raggedy bits, shorts/skirts, no sleeves, little boots, wrist things, and implemented them in different ways
Tumblr media
And also on these i started adding details they have now, like the wrist bands on Eber and a cape + white gloves for Darius
(plus i had been sketching some ideas for casual outfits for current Darius and those have been inspired by the outfits I have for a non toh oc of mine because they kinda fit Darius' vibe and he also has a bit of diamond shape motif like Darius. That's where the sash thing comes from)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(titty window was a suggestion from a friend)
Another important thing i keep doing on a lot of characters is that a common shape for the neck of the shirts is V that Hunter, Lilith and many other characters have. Its all over the place when you stop to look for it. And other really common thing is that theres a lot of long shirts that have a belt or waitsband, extremely common
I did answer a bit of how I designed Cain and Salem's outfits here but in short, it was a lot of referencing both Hunter's outfits, concept art for coven scouts/Hunter (i actually found more concept art for coven scouts but haven't took the time to really absorb them) and also the hollow mind portraits.
Something I haven't shown a lot here yet is that Ive designed casual outfits for all my main four GGs (sorry Alexander and William, you're too hard for me to design stuff for now :'3) which was really helpful on figuring out on what feels like Boiling Isles' fashion. Might do a post about my process on that + the uniforms of my other GGs and their physical appearances
(fun fact, Cain has a lot of stuff that I drew on older versions of Hunter, including the scar across the eye)
So yeah, lots of observation, references and a healthy dose of extrapolation and improvising. And taking vibes from other places helps too. I think even some stuff from my old Hunter aus have seeped into some of these designs too, like the Hunter Whispers outfit, looks pretty similar to the 17 year old Darius outfit i did so it was probably an unconscious reference (which also, remembering again, i did also base on the shape of his hollow mind shirt. See, i keep remembering things that are or could have been inspirations for these things fjsndnd)
But its also a thing you have to get some practice going on before it feels right and turns into something easy to do
I myself have struggled a lot with Darius' outfit on his early 20s, this is actually the fourth attempt or so. Here's the previous attempt, from before i decided to make him younger than Cain + his outfit at 17 because i also found it while looking for the other photo and i don't think i posted that drawing before
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His hair was a challenge to decide. But im happy with the final result!
Here you go, a bit of the process i go through!
