Silmarillion war crimes
(Finally motivated to make this because someone said the Silmarillion elves committed 'all the war crimes', and while I know, I know they were just exaggerating for comic effect it still drives me up the wall.)
First piece of housekeeping: Technically speaking war crimes are war crimes because they were defined as such in various treaties. You aren't technically violating the Geneva Conventions if you aren't signatory to them. But, they do often get talked about more like universally applicable rules.
Second piece of housekeeping: I think no one is actually accusing the Fëanorians of, like, cutting undersea communications cables or impersonating the Red Cross. There are some war crimes which are obviously not applicable and I'm not going to discuss them.
Third piece of housekeeping: There are a lot of provisions in the Geneva Conventions. Someone else can go through all of them if they like. So, I'm going to go with this list gleaned from the section of the Wikipedia page on war crimes about the international criminal court:
Willful killing, or causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health
Torture or inhumane treatment
Unlawful wanton destruction or appropriation of property
Forcing a prisoner of war to serve in the forces of a hostile power
Depriving a prisoner of war of a fair trial
Unlawful deportation, confinement or transfer
Taking hostages
Directing attacks against civilians
Killing a surrendered combatant
Misusing a flag of truce, a flag or uniform of the enemy
Settlement of occupied territory
Deportation of inhabitants of occupied territory
Using poison weapons
Using civilians as shields
Using child soldiers
Firing upon a Combat Medic with clear insignia.
Summary execution
Rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution or forced pregnancy
Fourth piece of housekeeping: I'm not just going to look at the Fëanorians. That's not fair. There's elves vs. other elves, elves vs. dwarves, dwarves vs. elves, Angband vs. everyone, everyone vs. Angband, etc. I should probably define some of these groups starting out but I'm not going to.
So. This will be long.
1. Willful killing, or causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health
I'm a little puzzled about this one, actually. I thought that was just… assumed to be part of war???
Killing as more than a means to some non-killing-related end???
At any rate I'm inclined to say everyone conducting war in the Silmarillion did this. I don't think anyone was trying to minimize military casualties.
Edit: Have been informed it's meant to be killing of people protected under the conventions. In which case it's a lot more questionable. For some people.
2. Torture or inhumane treatment
Angband did this, obviously.
A lot.
Really a lot.
We don't have any record of any elves doing it, or dwarves, or Edain.
…Except Túrin's outlaws but they're kind of a weird circumstance.
3. Unlawful wanton destruction or appropriation of property
(Seems like there might be a lot of wiggle room in 'unlawful'…)
Well, anyway, Angband also did this, obviously, a lot.
The dwarven sack of Menegroth counts as this.
Seizure of the swan-ships arguably counts as this one, though I'd actually hesitate on that one. I think that wasn't a war crime, that was a crime crime, because they weren't at war.
If the Fëanorians scavenged from Menegroth before leaving that probably counts, but that's speculation.
The Host of the West did destroy Angband, if you want to count that.
Edit: And the Fëanorians destroyed the Havens of Sirion.
4. Forcing a prisoner of war to serve in the forces of a hostile power
Angband, yet again. It's a little less obvious here since it's not like they put prisoners in the regular army unless you count orcs, but brainwashing prisoners and sending them out as agents probably counts.
Also their treatment of prisoners of war generally violates a lot of stuff in the Third Geneva Convention.
I do not think we have grounds to say anyone else did this, partially because I'm not sure we have grounds to say anyone else ever took any prisoners.
Elrond and Elros are a gray area, but if they ended up fighting with the Fëanorians there's no reason to believe it was against anyone but Angband.
Oh, and I suppose the Host of the West took prisoners, but I'm sure they didn't do this.
5. Depriving a prisoner of war of a fair trial
I mean, you could say that prisoners of war in Angband got the same kind of trial that anyone else in Angband got?
But otherwise Angband again, yeah.
The Host of the West… I'm not sure. Do you count the judgments of Ëonwë as a fair trial?
Everyone else: No prisoners, not an issue.
…Look I don't know what to say about Túrin and Mîm. I'm inclined to say a lot of the outlaws' bad behavior was crime crime not war crime. I don't know.
6. Unlawful deportation, confinement or transfer
Angband back in the definitely column here.
I don't think anyone else is. Sure, Menegroth and Sirion were abandoned, but it wasn't because the Fëanorians stuck around chasing people away.
7. Taking hostages
Angband, explicitly with Maedhros and I think implicitly elsewhere.
The Easterlings serving Angband also explicitly took hostages.
The Fëanorians took Elrond and Elros. It doesn't seem to have been terribly effective, but it was hostage-taking.
Celegorm and Curufin holding Lúthien could be this if you consider the Fëanorians to have been at war with Doriath at that point, but that's sort of dubious? Maybe a war crime, maybe a crime crime.
8. Directing attacks against civilians
Angband.
The Fëanorians attacked the entire communities of Menegroth and the Havens of Sirion. They may or may not have made any attempt to avoid deliberately killing noncombatants in one or both cases, but they were unavoidably attacks on civilians.
The dwarven attack on Menegroth is similarly an attack on civilians.
If you consider any orcs, trolls, balrogs, vampires, werewolves, etc. to be civilians, then the Host of the West almost certainly did this. You can argue that none of them counted as civilians; you can also argue that the Host of the West managed not to attack e.g. orc children, but I don't think that's very likely.
The Easterlings serving Angband did have civilians, but I think it's more likely the Host of the West avoided attacking those.
9. Killing a surrendered combatant
I don't think anyone is directly attested as doing this?
The overall impression one gets of the First Age is a general deficit of surrender.
But: if anyone surrendered to Angband's forces rather than trying to fight or escape until they physically couldn't, I'm sure some of them were killed (and some weren't, because Angband wanted slaves).
If any orcs/werewolves/vampires/trolls/dragons/balrogs dared to surrender rather than fight to the death or escape, I'm sure some to most of them were killed.
If any dwarves of Nogrod tried to surrender to Beren and the Ents, they were killed.
We don't know about the dwarven sack of Menegroth or any of the Kinslayings (on either side).
The Host of the West accepted at least some surrenders, but we don't know if it was all of them.
10. Misusing a flag of truce, a flag or uniform of the enemy
Angband doesn't get much of an opportunity for this because no one trusts their truces and it's not like switching flags or uniforms would help, insofar as there are uniforms.
But they did propose a negotiation under false pretenses.
Of course the Fëanorians also agreed to it under false pretenses.
The Silmaril Quest is absolutely full of people disguising themselves as Angband's forces. If you want to get pedantic about it uniforms and flags were not the key part of those disguises, but I think it's the same idea?
Edit: Unless you want to count them as spies, not soldiers. There are different rules for spies, which is to say I don't think there are any rules about spies, either what they can do or what can be done to them. I think that may be a better frame for this.
I feel like the Easterlings who announced their allegiance change mid-battle may also count as this?
11. Settlement of occupied territory
Angband generally prefers the scorched-earth approach, but they do settle their Easterlings in occupied territory.
No one else does this.
Like the Fëanorians had enough people left to 'occupy' anything.
(Or I guess arguably the Host of the West occupies Angband but not for very long and they definitely don't settle there.)
12. Deportation of inhabitants of occupied territory
Angband does some of this in the form of enslaving them back in, uh, Angband, but it's true that mostly it depopulates by slaughter and most of the survives flee with no deportation as such. It doesn't deport the Edain.
Again, most others have no occupied territory.
Though everyone does have to leave Beleriand. :( Should that be attributed to the Host of the West?
13. Using poison weapons
Angband: yes.
Everyone else: No evidence of this. I wouldn't necessarily rule out them trying it against Angband if they thought it would work.
Although I suppose you could argue that weapons inimical to Angband by nature could count as poison…? Naahhh.
(Edit: Eöl used poisoned weapons, but that was murder not combat.)
14. Using civilians as shields
I don't think Angband did this one, actually?
Edain civilians as hostages, yeah, but Angband didn't have much in the way of its own civilians and didn't expect anyone to try to avoid hitting them.
Angband's Easterlings most likely tried to keep their civilians out of the way like sensible people.
15. Using child soldiers
Whether it was possible for Angband to do this with orcs depends on your interpretation.
Everyone else…
Not child soldiers in the 'take them from their families, indoctrinate them, send them out for shock value' sense.
But child soldiers in the sense of 'people we would consider children are considered adults and treated as such', yeah.
And I expect also in the sense of 'people who are not considered adults and who no one really wants fighting, but there is no true place of safety and no one wants them helpless, either, so'.
16. Firing upon a Combat Medic with clear insignia
Existence of combat medics with clear insignia is uncertain.
If they existed I'm sure Angband fired on them and tbh I wouldn't bet against anyone else doing so.
17. Summary execution
Okay, this can mean killing combatants who surrendered again, but to avoid double-counting let's say we mean non-combatants.
Well, Angband, regardless.
It would not surprise me if the Fëanorians did this in Menegroth, considering that Celegorm's servants expected to get away with murdering children, but that's not definite.
18. Rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution or forced pregnancy
Angband's Easterlings did this in Dor-lómin.
The rest of Angband…
It seems likely? In one context or another. But I don't think there are direct statements on it.
—Or actually I guess they made promises to Maeglin about Idril! Not sure if that should count when they didn't actually do anything and I'm not sure they ever meant to.
Eöl and Aredhel in the worst interpretation was not part of a war. It was a crime crime and a diplomatic disaster.
Celegorm and Curufin's behavior towards Lúthien was only questionably part of a war and I'm not sure whether it qualifies here, so I'm going to say no.
Eighteen in the somewhat arbitrary list…
Fëanorians: Definitely five four (1, 3, 7, 8, 10), possibly/arguably as many as nine (1, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17).
Non-Fëanorian Exiles: Definitely two (1, 10), possibly/arguably as many as five (1, 9, 10, 15, 16).
Iathrim+Lúthien&Beren: Definitely two (1, 10), possibly/arguably as many as five (1, 9, 10, 15, 16).
Dwarves of Nogrod: Definitely three two (1, 3, 8), possibly/arguably as many as five (1, 3, 8, 9, 16).
Host of the West: Definitely one (1), possibly/arguably as many as seven (1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 12, 16) (that's what you get for winning).
Angband and associates: Definitely thirteen (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18), possibly/arguably seventeen (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18).
Admittedly it's silly to look at Angband at all when it was in a constant state of total war against basically everybody…

Karaka means significator or signification. Every object- living or dead signifies something in this world. It has a purpose for it's existence.
In Sanskrit dictionary, it means an operator, factor and who or what produces.
Naisargika karakas shows everything that exists in the creation. They include Rahu, Ketu and the seven Planets.
They are presided by Brahma.
Naisargika Karakas show not only human beings, but they show various impersonal things and matter.
They show everything that exists in Brahma's creation and affects a person

i have this plot bunny that doesn’t fit in the second half of book three in canon, but would if we assumed weeks pass between episodes (i tend to do this anyway for my own peace of mind wrt the timeline) and thematically makes the most sense there. it features zuko, katara, and toph (the others maybe too but those are the characters that have to be there) getting captured by members of the fire nation (it might make more sense of they’re soldiers but i think it’s more interesting if they’re citizens who are ozai loyalists) and take particular interest in harming zuko since he’s, you know. a traitor to the state. i can imagine a vindictiveness there that probably wouldn’t be quite so present with the other members of the gaang, who are enemies but impersonal ones they never expected anything else from. “poor prince zuko,” they snarl. “too bad the royal family doesn’t claim you anymore; you’re on your own. they want you dead, in fact. or captured. i suppose we’ll have to decide what’s more fun.”
anyway. they’re all being restrained by a type of metal toph hasn’t bended before. (toph knows she can crack it, but it takes longer than she’d like on account of ~new.) their capturers don’t know she can bend metal. one of them is threatening to (and coming very close to actually doing so) “burn off the other half of the traitor prince’s face.” this maybe gives toph the final push she needs to figure it out—and she actually bends katara out of her restraints before her own. (this is contingent on toph knowing a certain skill of katara’s and trusting this is one of the rare instances she’ll use it.) it is literally a millisecond just in the nick of time—katara implicitly understands what toph is expecting, and it’s what she was already thinking. she bloodbends the captor before they can burn zuko with cold, precise fury. “he’s not on his own.” zuko’s right eye widens in surprise, the other blinking rapidly—he was flashing back to a different time—why would she do that for him, he knows she has. very complicated feelings about that—but then toph metal bends herself and zuko out of their restraints. they knock the captor out. none of them say a word about any of it as they make their escape, nor the night that follows.

Valentine's Day Gifts
Asks are open, feel free to pop in and talk or request something!
It was Valentine's Day, a day Stone had never really celebrated before. He thought it was just another greedy holiday used by big corporations to convince their consumers to give them even more money than usual. It helped that he usually had no one to celebrate this holiday with. Usually.
However, even if he didn't have a significant other, this day wasn't only about romantic love and he did now have...acquaintances. And considering he wasn't someone who openly expressed his appreciation, he decided he may as well show it today. Though he refused to buy them gifts, so homemade gifts he had to give.
Since the 141 just love his cups of chai, each of their gifts came with a cup of chai. He had no doubt they'd accept just the chai as a gift, but Stone felt that was too...impersonal. So he came up with unique gifts for each of them.
Price's gift came in the form of helping out with the load of paperwork Price had to get through. Stone had snuck into Price's office while Price was at the mess hall for lunch and he had done all of the paperwork he had clearance to do, leaving the classified paperwork for Price. It wasn't much, but Price certainly appreciated coming back to his office, no Stone in sight, just a cup of chai and a little more than half of his paperwork for the day already done.
Soap had gone to his barracks after an afternoon of sharpening his combat skills, only to see a few presents that weren't there before. On his nightstand was the cup of chai and on the bed were two things; one was an empty sketchbook and the other was a container of Soap's favorite Scottish snack, Tunnocks tea cakes. His mouth watered at the sight of the tea cakes, especially since he couldn't find them anywhere in the town the base was located in. And food was the way to get into that man's heart.
Gaz arguably got the best gift of them all (at least in his opinion). He had woken up that morning and had headed into the recreational room, thinking he'd wish Stone a happy Valentine's Day and would maybe engage in some conversation with the tall man while Stone had his usual morning cup of chai. Stone had already, unfortunately, left the recreational room but to Gaz's surprise and delight, there was a cup of chai and an envelope waiting for him.
He took both to the little table in the kitchenette of the recreational room, drinking his cup of chai. As he did so, he opened the envelope and got out the paper inside. Inside were the contents of Stone's recipe for chai, which was a little different than regular masala chai (simply because Stone was allergic to cinnamon and thus substituted it). In Gaz's hands was the key to the heaven of the mouth, Stone's precious chai recipe.
Ghost had heard from the rest of the 141 about their gifts from Stone, so he was expecting to get a gift. And boy was he not disappointed. He had stepped into his barracks after a long day of training and doing paperwork, to see the infamous cup of chai and a weighted blanket. The weighted blanket had been something Ghost had been wanting to get for a few weeks now, needing something similar to Stone's weight and warmth to go to sleep. So the blanket would help on the nights that Stone didn't sleep in his bed with him. But that wasn't all that was there, no there was also something Ghost had thought he'd never see again.
On the bed, laid carefully, was his favorite balaclava that had been previously ruined during a mission. It had been sliced open by an enemy soldier who had swung their blade in Ghost's face and the only reason Ghost hadn't been injured was due to Stone quickly pulling Ghost away from the enemy soldier, though not without the poor mask being injured. Even though it had been his favorite, Ghost couldn't stitch for his life, so he had thrown out the mask. But now here it was, carefully stitched up by Stone who had presumably dug it up from the trash.
While all of the 141 appreciated their gifts, they had no time to get Stone a gift in return, which Stone anticipated and accepted the fact. Though it seemed someone did get him a gift. As he exited the hospital building, one of the soldiers who worked at the small post office on base had told him there was a care package waiting for him back at his barracks. That perplexed Stone, especially since he had no one at home who would send him a package. As he walked to his barracks, he tried to think of who would send a package but he couldn't think of one. Unless...
Stone would never admit it, but as soon as the name popped into his head, he practically ran to his barracks. Outside the door to his barracks, there was indeed a box waiting for him. He carefully lifted it and took it inside, feeling eager for the first time in months. If it was who he thought it was... Well, it had to be who he thought it was, no one else would unexpectedly send him something.
After taking off his gear, he opened the box with his combat knife. Inside the box was all of his favorite Indian snacks: bags of Chakli, bags of Aloo Bhujia, bags of Khatta Meetha, a container of Khaman Dhokla. Everything that reminded him of home. But the thing that caught his attention and confirmed his suspicion of who sent the care package was a small wood carving of an ox that had been wrapped in tissue paper to prevent damage during shipping.
He knew the craftsmanship, knew it so well. There were only a few U.S. Marines who knew him by the nickname "Ox", because they had given him that nickname. And unfortunately, four out of the five Marines were dead, having been a squad of five. But there was one who survived, the captain of the squad and a man that was the closest thing Stone had to a friend. And like with all of the wood carvings the man carved, this ox was carved with care and love, a testament to the fondness between him and Stone even when they hadn't spoken since Stone got the news about most of the squad dying a year ago.
Stone set down the ox carefully on his nightstand, placing it in a way where he'd be able to see it when he got into bed to sleep that night. Then he picked up the envelope, opening it with eagerness. Inside was a letter he handled with more care than he did with the envelope. He unfolded it, reading the contents.
Dear Ox,
I know it has been months since we last spoke, a year since we last saw each other. I'm deeply sorry I pulled away from you after the death of my soldiers, I had needed to heal on my own. But I'm back now, if you still accept my acquaintance as you once did.
The last few months have been busy for me, so forgive me for not reaching out sooner. I cannot tell you all the details, but I'm certain you've heard by now that I retired from the Marines and went into a private military company. It is called the Shadow Company and while I've had my doubts about private military contractors, you know I did, these group of men and women are better than those I've met in the past. I see a family here with them, a new family I didn't think I'd get after my old one died.
But I have not fully forgotten my roots. I remember the night you got that nickname "Ox", how you had gotten drunk for the first time and made all of us go to a barn so you could fight an ox. I remember watching you get into the pen with the ox and I remember jumping over the fence and into the pen with you to get you out when you tried charging back at the charging ox. I remember the squad joking about how you tried to fight an ox for months afterwards.
I can't forget you, can't forget them. And I don't want to. So, this is why I've taken to writing letters to you again. I miss you, Ox. And I am selfish for doing so when I have left everything else of my old life behind. But God, I can't let go of you. I still feel the weight of your heavy frame against mine as we sat side by side, still feel the warmth that hides beneath your cold and stoic demeanor. We have spent far too many years together, shared a loss that few share together.
Though I can't hold it against you if you no longer feel the same about me, if by pulling away from you has irreparably damaged the little friendship we did share. It is your choice if you wish to pick up our habit of sending each other letters during our deployments, I understand if you do not want to. Just know that I await your letter, should you choose to send one. Use the address this letter was sent from if you do send a letter.
I hope you are doing well and I think of you often. Though it has been years since we've served on the same squad, we are still two soldiers from the same squad, the only two still alive. It is an unfortunate circumstance, but I hope we continue to be the two still alive, so we can carry their memories with us.
Happy Valentine's Day, hopefully. Hopefully my package arrived on the date and it gives you a taste of home. You deserve it and more.

Stone read and reread the contents of the letter, his eyes memorizing the words. His cold heart softened, memories of a time when he thought he had found his forever squad playing out in his mind. While he had opened up more than he had with other Marine squads, he had still been sent to another squad and he never got to go back to the squad, even when Kali became captain. He had accepted it, he hadn't truly opened up fully then, not as he does now with the 141. But Kali's friendship had remained and he found himself wanting—longing to write him a letter back.
Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't all bad after all.

Engie replies with Neither, my partners the best : ). At which point, a second argument starts, and he is officially added into the weekly gushing about our partners to someone else.

“Dude, Medic is the best! With his healing, I barely die anymore. The other Scout lost his shit last match.” Scout grabs a beer, popping the top off to gulp it down. He looks down at the abandoned board game on the table with pieces scattered randomly. Hopefully they can find them all when they eventually put it away.
“You should see the other Demo when Sniper ruins his sticky bomb traps. He throws a fit!” The Aussie’s sharp aim bursts the laid out bombs before the enemy comes close to activating them. Both men slip their empty bottles into the opened cases for recycling. Demo picks up the loose game pieces, tossing them back into the box. He doesn’t bother counting them and assumes that everything is in place. If not, oh well.
“Does Sniper call you sexy names in another language?” Scout can’t describe the shiver that runs through his body when Medic growls German pet names. He could walk past the man, and those sweet words would he uttered in a heartbeat. Of course, he would never know if Medic called him a bitch or darling.
“That’s my job, lad. Does Medic take you cryptid hunting?” An eye roll from the younger man. If Medic ever did that, it would include dissecting them in the same night. Scout tries not to think about the time he caught Medic coming back late at night after harvesting organs.
Before either of them can speak, Engineer enters the room. He looks between the pair while grabbing a beer for himself. The southerner takes note of yet another abandoned game. Do those two ever finish one?
“What are you fellas talking about?” Engineer takes a healthy gulp of his drink. His overalls are sticky with sweat after working in his shop all morning. Oil stains and small holes in his pant legs show the hard work he does everyday.
“Who’s got the best lass on his arm.” Scout laughs, nudging Demo with his foot under the table. Engineer joins in on the chuckling before he shakes his head at their antics. So typical of them.
“Well, for the record, Spy’s the best girlfriend out of all of y’all’s ladies.” While Scout gags, Demo laughs. He puts a hand on Engineer’s shoulder as the men chortle together. The Scotsman wipes away the tear in his eye and shakes his head.
“Be serious, lad. Does Spy bring you shark teeth?” He has several necklaces, one of which Demo is wearing under his vest. Sniper handmade each of them, careful to wrap the teeth in wire to keep them in place. He also made sure to give Demo every bit of information on the shark it came from until his mouth goes dry.
“Or carry you to bed?” Scout grins, chin in his palm as he thinks about his Medic. The younger likes to sit with him while he sterilizes his equipment. More often than not, Scout falls asleep somewhere in the examination room. Each time, Medic tenderly brings him to one of their bedrooms and tucks him in.
“No to both of y’all, but do your boys make you dinner? And I mean a real dinners with garnish and all them fancy bits.” There’s no doubt in Engineer’s mind that he gained a pound or two from Spy’s cooking. Those who can cook take turns doing so, but Spy makes a personal dish for Engineer. Plump ducks, roasted garlic spreads, and vegetables cooked in ways Engineer has never seen before.
“Fried gator isn’t fancy, but it’s sure as hell filling. Tastes like that chicken you love, laddie.” Demo says the second half to Scout. The batter now pauses, questioning if his beloved chicken hut serves actual chicken or gator substitute. It would make sense seeing how weirdly shaped some of the flats tend to be.
“Yeah, well, Medic lets me borrow his clothes. Sucks to be you guys.” Both men grumble at the fact. Of course they had to pick partners smaller than them. Engineer still hasn’t gotten back the flannel Spy borrowed during one of their dates. He’s starting to suspect he wasn’t actually cold that night.
“Now, listen—“

You know what, I'm just gonna throw this out here
"Azula committed war crimes!" Who the fuck cares?!
Who cares if Azula committed the war crime of impersonation and false surrender?
Who cares if Zuko committed the war crime of intentional attack towards a civilian?
Who cares if Katara committed the war crime of intentional attack towards a civilian?
Who cares if Sokka committed the war crime of false flag?
Absolutely no one should care is the right answer
The whole concept of war crimes is manipulative, childish and hypocritic.
You know who benefits from war crimes and war rules? The fat and filthy rich that sit in their houses and eat like pigs when wars happen, that's who. Those people are the law makers. And those people make money out of sitting on their asses and commanding soldiers to win wars for them. Those are the only people that benefit from war.
War isn't fair. War isn't just. War isn't honorable. War is pointless and unfair and barbaric. It isn't a game that has rules. When a 19 year old soldier is out in the battlefield, begging for mercy, before the enemy soldier that holds a gun directed at him, do you think any of the two will be thinking about war crimes? Do you think any of the two will be thinking that they are doing something that's right, honorable and fair?
War isn't a game. All those people screaming about a character who committed war crimes don't understand how childish they sound. I've heard students of mine say things like "this kid is not playing by the rules, they're a cheater and I don't want to play with them" and this is exactly what those people sound like when they cry about a drawing not getting tortured over a fictional war crime.
The people that came up with war crimes try to make war seem honorable and fair. Through the media, that they control, cause they're rich, they portray ideas of was being just and soldiers fighting cause they believe there's honor in dying in the battlefield. That's a lot of bullshit. That's the picture of society the rich are trying to paint, so that we'll be motivated to fight wars for their money and fortune.
The whole concept of war crimes is a tool. It's a ridiculous, false idea of justice, created by the rich in order to manipulate us. Just imagine how much more ridiculous you sound when you use that undebatably pathetic concept as a reason to torture a fictional character.
Grow the hell up.

So I have read a fanfic recently (mainly part 1) about what if Megatron meet Nemesis Prime. ("Know Thy Enemy" by YunaYamiMouto on AO3) And it got me thinking. Like here are some quotes from this:
"The mech before him turned around, something ... not quite right in his movement. In fact, he held himself all wrong. Even as a data archivist, Orion had held himself more regally than that fake Prime, Sentinel, ever could. The shape of the body in front of him was right, but the motions were all wrong. Yes, Optimus had always held himself as a fighter: proud back straight, shoulders bravely squared, helm held high as he regarded any enemy that might oppose him, [...] Whether he knew it or not, both as Orion Pax and as Optimus Prime, he had a very sensual motion to his hips, whether he was standing still, charging into battle or strolling into a verbal sparring match. It could be quite distracting, if one was not used to it or of a weak processor and resolve. Gladiators and soldiers both had ran into things when the red and blue mech used to pass them by on his way to Megatron, whether it be in the streets of Kaon or the battlefield. The shape before him was right and held itself halfway decently, [...].
Seen or unseen, heard or unheard, Optimus Prime's presence was always felt. It wasn't even just Megatron. Every bot felt it when Optimus Prime set foot on the battlefield. The Autobots started fighting harder, the Decepticons found it far more difficult to hold the line but they didn't give up ground easily, either, though most of their fields sang with the need to run and Megatron always felt his spark skip a few harmonics. Optimus could be on the other side of the battlefield entirely, miles upon miles separating them so not even their sharp optics could pick each other up and yet he'd always know Optimus was there." And here is what got most of my attention:
""I must admit, I'm impressed. It took the other robots a lot longer to figure that out," the imposter said in sub-vocals that were distinctly human despite the robotic drawl of the vocalizer it was using. Megatron growled, optics narrowed, EM field lashing out in anger. The other didn't react, only straightening Megatron's suspicions about this fake being a drone. Created by the fleshlings of this pathetic, cursed planet, no doubt. [...]
"I am Silas, but more importantly, we are MECH," 'Silas' responded in a proud, arrogant tone [...] It only made him hate the human and the impersonator of his rival even more. "I was honestly expecting Optimus Prime here, but instead I got you. And just who might you be?"
"Megatron of Kaon, the Lord of the Decepticons. Why are you impersonating Optimus Prime, filth?"[...]
"MECH is always searching for new technology. As soon as we learned of your species' presence on Earth, we started studying you until we finally managed to build you. Optimus Prime was the strongest, sturdiest robot we knew of, so we made a copy of him. Only we made him better."
Megatron couldn't help it. He laughed in the human's face. The mere notion of someone thinking they could create a better Optimus Prime than the bot himself was so ridiculous it was bordering on mad. "You are so delusional, human, that I actually pity you. You can't make a better Optimus Prime!"
"And why is that?"[...]
"Because Optimus Prime is perfect," replied the gray mech instantly, feeling no shame in admitting something that he had thought even before the Matrix had reformatted his enemy. "From spark to mind to frame, Optimus Prime is the pinnacle of perfection in a Cybertronian. A little too naively idealistic and optimistic, perhaps, but even Primes aren't flawless." [...] "What made it so easy to tell you apart from the real Optimus Prime is that you've chosen to replicate the closest thing to perfection itself and you've failed miserably."
"I find myself doubting your words, Megatron of Kaon, as I am quite confident this perfect mend of man and machine can defeat you." Megatron only grinned more at that. A fight is what he had been invited to, so a fight is what he will get, though he will have to find the real Optimus after he's finished with this pathetic fool. This stunt he's pulled is quite sneaky for Optimus' standards. [...] Luring Megatron out to fight his fake would keep his Autobots safe without worrying himself at the consequences of meeting the weak copy in close combat." There is also this moments, that absolutely is my favourite: "Even if he hadn't known this wasn't Optimus already, the stance the other picked would have told him everything, as would the fact that he attacked first. They had locked themselves in an unconscious dance throughout the centuries, taking turns in who's leading with the first attack. The last time they faced off was Optimus' turn, which meant this time it should have been Megatron's. Even though it wasn't a conscious decision on their part, it repeated itself like a general law of dynamics. They never strayed from the pattern. The fact that this fake Optimus engaged first in servo-to-servo combat was also completely un-Optimus-like, as the Prime always first engaged him in a firefight to discourage close combat, as it usually led to longer battles, higher risks, more casualties and more energon lost in the process." _____________ " After the long millennia of fighting with his dearest rival and the centuries before that of them being as close as brothers, Megatron knew every minute shift of Optimus' every nut and bolt and screw. To most of the universe, Optimus was as stoic as they come, especially if he engages his battlemask. In truth, he was very expressive, if only one knew where to look. Not only the optics gave him away. Megatron could see the direction his opponent might be going or on just what Optimus was focused on by tracking the movement of those ridiculously endearing audio finials of his. They were as telling as seeker wings or door-wings, particularly in Praxians." ___________ ""You are a special kind of fool, flesh bag. I know the body of Optimus Prime better than his medic! I know best how to both bring him pain as well as pleasure. Perhaps you would have been a better challenge had you picked anyone else for your little experiment. It would have at least held an element of surprise! As it was, this was rather disappointing.""
I thought I was going to fall and not get up when I read this. The dynamic between them both in this fic is incredible. I sincerely recommend reading it, specialy if you ship them togeher (if you do not then read scenario 2, it won't disapoint). ;)

In case I haven’t mentioned it, I’m writing a thing! :D
Get excited people. But… probably not too excited. I finished the rough draft of chapter one and just started writing chapter two.
If you’re wondering what I’m writing, it’s a fanfic (What else would you expect from me? Honestly?) about the Odyssey that will be posted chapter by chapter- eh… weekly? Yeah. Weekly.
“Oh it’s a retelling? We have a bunch of those! Sure they’re good but like- ok?” I hear you say.
I know! I know. But hear me out!
This work will follow Odysseus from the Fall of Troy, through the Odyssey, and a short time afterwards, but with a twist: Odysseus adopts Astyanax, the infant prince of Ilium (Troy). Also, Ody will get home in half the time. Of course there will be some EPIC: the Musical inspired happenings and events cus that play caused my Greek Mythology hyperfixation to return with a vengeance by hiding in my love of theater. A “Thespian Horse,” if you will.
I’m anticipating it to be as long as the Odyssey in word count, give or take. Idk tho cus I haven’t written it yet lmao
I’m also not sure what I want to do with Polites. I know I want him to be more important of a character than in the Greek epic, but I don’t know what his fate will be.
Will he die at the hands of Polyphemus like in EPIC? Will he perish with the rest of the remaining crew for eating Helios’s cattle like in the original text? Will he find a secret third fate, somehow survive everything, and become the best uncle ever?
Who knows! Certainly not me.
This has been picking at my brain for months, and I’m so happy to be writing again! It feels so nice. I even got notebooks. This is gonna be sick! >:3

It was dark inside the horse.
No one dared to even light a torch for fear of alerting the sleeping Trojans outside. The air was warm and dank from the hours the Achaean soldiers spent hunched over in the cramped wooden space. Blind to the outside world, but not deaf.
They heard everything their enemy said throughout the previous day and the splintering of wood as one of the Trojans pierced the horse with his spear. They heard the grunts and strains of the Trojans pulling the horse to the gates. The crumble of stones as the masons of Troy chipped away at the walls to make room for the supposed gift to Athena. They heard Helen of Sparta, daughter of Zeus, the reason for this decade-long siege, impersonate their wives and call out to each of them.
The plot would have been discovered if not for Odysseus, the king of the island nation Ithaca, the mastermind behind the plan to take Troy and end the war. As Helen knocked and changed her voice, he felt Anticlus, a warrior beside him, begin to call out. Odysseus did not hesitate. He quickly and silently clasped his hand over Anticlus’s mouth, stifling his voice before he could speak. No one dared move as the citizens of Troy celebrated their victory over the Achaeans and the war's end.
The party lasted long into the night, and Dawn’s beautiful rays were fast approaching by the time the festivities ended, and the city fell quiet with sleep.
When Odysseus felt the time was right, he turned to Diomedes. They both nodded to each other, knowing Athena was with them and urging them that it was time to strike.
“Listen closely, my brothers,” Odysseus said, standing up and lighting his torch, “These past ten years, our numbers have been slowly depleted. The Trojans, our enemy, killed our friends, brothers, and fathers. But tonight, we will be the ones who slaughter all they hold dear.”

TF2 Engineer x Reader Part 1
Summary: The Red team of Teufort was used to having only nine members. Who knew that adding a tenth merc would eventually change everything or that they would have a closer connection to the rest of the team than they all knew?
Chapters: Part One Part two Part three
The team was gathered in the recreation room, lounging around, doing their own individual thing. It was the first ceasefire day in a while and the fort was under no immediate threat as far as they knew. Medic was reading some new medical journals, Spy was impersonating people on the opposing team while Pyro and Scout were watching him, Demo was sprawled out napping in an armchair, Heavy was enjoying a sandwich,  Soldier was playing with Lieutenant Bites, Sniper was trying to get his scopes back into focus, and Engineer was sitting on the couch looking at a photo.
Medic looked up from his journal and saw the Texan’s sad face and became concerned. “Are you okay, Dell?” He asked, causing the rest of the team to look up at their teammate.
Dell sighed. “Yeah, just thinkin’ ‘bout my lady back home.” He smirked as he looked back at the photo. “I haven’t seen her in so long, I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t recognise me when they let us go home.” The team began to crowd around Dell to get a peek at his love. The photo he had was worn from being in his hat all of the time but the picture was still clear. He was sitting on the tailgate of his truck as a woman held him in her arms and kissed his cheek.
Scout squinted at the photo. “That kind of looks like…” He trailed off before snatching it to get a closer look. “It is!” He yelled. “You're dating my little sister?” His face went red as he tried to lunge at Dell, Misha held the young man back. “No! Let me kick his ass!”
Dell sighed and took the photo back. “Cool your britches, son, I didn’t know you even had a sister. All you ever talk about is your seven brothers.” He placed the photo back in his hat. “Besides, she’s the one who asked me on the first date.”
Jeremy tried to wiggle out of the Russian’s grip. “Well you can’t date her anymore! She’s never allowed to date, ever! She’s just a kid and you’re too old for her!”
The Texan rubbed his temples. “She's twenty three, Jeremy, I know I’m forty three and that's quite a large difference but we're both adults.” He finished calming his headache. 
The sound of floorboards cheeked causing the team to look at the doorway and freeze. The team’s Herbalist was standing there with a potted plant in their hands. Originally they all feared Pyro but when the Herbalist was introduced, they stole the spotlight. With their plague doctor-esq uniform and mask paired with their silence, the team didn’t know if they were in a horror movie or not. They looked at Dell and mumbled something before placing the plant on a windowsill. They mumbled something again but no one was able to hear a single word they said.
Before anyone could say something the sirens started to roar, alerting that there was an intruder near the base and the team ran for their gear before running outside to defend Teufort. Dell ran to a platform with a decent vantage point over the enemy team and began to build a sentry. He reached into his toolbox for his wrench but ended up grabbing a piece of paper. “What in the tarnation is this?” He asked himself before reading it. “We said no secrets between us but you can clearly see that I wasn’t completely open about everything. You met one of my brothers and have seven more to see, but the main thing you don’t know about is my profession. Meet me under the platform leading to the intel room.” He stared at the note in disbelief. “Y/n?” He whispered.
While Dell was preoccupied with the note the Herbalist was watching him from an adjacent platform and saw the enemy spy sneaking up on the engineer. They tried to get over to him as quickly as they could but it was too late, the spy slit his neck and ran away.
The herbalist finally made it over to Dell and placed a cloth over his neck before pouring a strange liquid over it. Their heart was racing and their mask began to suffocate them. They tore the leather mask off and took a few deep breaths before looking down at Dell who stared at them in awe. They smiled and placed their hand on his cheek. “Hi, Dell. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
Dell couldn’t believe his eyes, it was her! It was y/n! The person he’s been scared of for the past year and a half was his girlfriend! “Y/n…” He smiled and leaned into her hand. “I missed you.”
Y/n smiled and kissed her boyfriend. “I know but you can’t talk right now, you need to save every bit of energy you have.” She reached into her bag and grabbed another bottle. “I’m sorry I have to do this but you can’t be using any strength you have left.” Before Dell could question her she placed the bottle to his lips and forced him to drink the liquid. “I’ll explain everything when I come back.” She placed her mask back on her face and began dragging Dell into the fort. A siren went off, congratulating the team for successfully defending their home. She dragged her boyfriend to the medbay where the rest of the team was waiting for their injuries to be healed.
“What the hell happened to him?” Ludwig shouted as he rushed over to help get Dell onto a bed.
Y/n said nothing as she left. When someone tried to question her again she looked at them with the dark voids her mask had for eyes and kept her silence before finally leaving.

What’s their name? Is there any meaning behind it?
Eskeri, or Essi for short. Presumably it's a Rhodokhroun name, but I haven't thought of an in-universe meaning for it yet skdjfskd
2. How old are they?
She's around 18, I think.
3. What is their occupation? If they are a student, which school do they go to?
She's at Border full time, living in the dorms at HQ. Her cover identity likely wouldn't hold up to close scrutiny, so finding work outside Border would be difficult. Though she's a bit of a recluse, so that probably doesn't bother her.
4. Who does their family consist of? (If they have pets, you can include them too)
She hasn't seen her family since she was taken to Aftokrator - I haven't quite decided if they were killed in an invasion or uprising, or if they're still alive but she was taken from them. I think her immediate family is her mother, father, and younger brother.
5. Are they from Mikado City originally or were they scouted by Border?
As previous answers may have implied lolol, she's a Neighbor originally from Rhodokhroun, though she was taken and conscripted at around 12-13 due to her high trion levels. Unlike Hyuse and House Ellin, the House that took her treated their conscripts very impersonally, and the lack of care led to botching her horn implantation. Eventually she was able to run away, though she couldn't get back to Rhodokhroun, and wound up going to Meeden to escape Aftokrator's reach.
6. What made them join Border?
She was picked up by Border shortly after arriving in Meeden, and as she didn't particularly pose a threat, she was allowed to remain on the condition that she enlisted so that Border could monitor her. Her status as a Neighbor is still a secret from everyone except the higher-ups and her squad captain.
7. When did they join Border?
Not solid on a timeline yet, but it's gotta be after Yuuma and Hyuse were already in Border, so having a Neighbor enlisted isn't much of a problem, especially one without the baggage Yuuma (Black Trigger) and Hyuse (enemy combatant) had.
8. What’s their position at Border?
She's a sniper. Which is completely different from how she fought as an Afto soldier, actually - I get the feeling that fighters who heavily specialize in long range combat like Border's snipers are not that common among Neighbors, from the ones we've seen. But the idea of picking off her foes at a distance appealed to her, and she's quite good at it.
9. What rank are they? Are they a part of a squad? If so, what squad is it?
She's in Kozue Squad - a B-rank squad with two Attackers (@blackapollonia's Naoko and Akemi) and their Operator/captain (@promisinininining's Kiyomi). I imagine she was kind of sprung on them - Essi herself probably wasn't too keen on the idea of joining a squad at all, but it's not easy to go it alone as a sniper, and it's hard to imagine any Operator wanting to partner up with her as a solo combatant anyway lmao. So their teamwork is pretty rough at first. She's also a much better sniper than her solo rank would suggest, because she skips training constantly and only really does the bare minimum to get by. Border's sniper division is a pretty friendly, close-knit group, and Essi has resisted every bit of it lol. In Afto, she was consistently one of the lowest-performing soldiers in her unit, thanks to her malfunctioning horns making Horn Triggers very difficult for her to use, and Trion levels that - while high for Border (probably in the 7-9 range) - are pretty low for a horned soldier. So she's still not really used to thinking of herself as skilled.
10. What do their Main Trigger and Sub Trigger consist of?
She equips all three sniper rifles (though favors Egret), Bagworm, Shield, and I think she'd make good use of a Chameleon as well. I think she'd carry something for short-to-midrange combat to use in a pinch as well, because she's pretty decent at it thanks to her Afto training despite not officially having any Attacker or Shooter training in Border. Maybe Hound? Haven't decided.
11. Do they have a side effect? If so, what is it?
No Side Effect. Her Trion levels are high for Border, probably in the 7-9 range, but middling to poor for an Afto soldier, thanks to her half-functional horns.
12. Do they have a mentor or a mentee? If so, who are they?
I'd really like to inflict her on one of her sniper senpais, though I haven't decided who - it would have to be someone pretty persistent and pushy, because I can't imagine she wants any part of being mentored haha. Someone'll probably see her potential and make an attempt, though. I could see someone like Satori or Touma being impervious enough to her bad attitude to try it.
13. How did the large invasion four and a half years ago impact their view on the Neighbors?
She's a Neighbor herself and wasn't around for the invasion, but she does deeply despise Aftokrator for what they did to her and her nation - so she probably has more in common with Kido Faction than they or she would be entirely comfortable with.
14. Do they want to go on the away mission or not? Why?
Probably not - she has the (partly paranoid, but partly accurate) idea lodged in her head that returning to the Neighborhood at all would only paint a target on her back for Aftokrator. There is a part of her that would very much like to return to Rhodokhroun, but she has long given up on that being possible for her - which, again, is partly realistic (it would be difficult for her to escape Afto's notice in their own vassal state) and partly a product of learned helplessness from her Afto indoctrination.
15. Amongst Border agents, who do they usually hang out with?
She's extremely untrusting and antisocial in general, so she hasn't endeared herself to many and doesn't socialize much with people outside of her squad. She's very quiet and withdrawn, and comes across as shy at first, but once she's opened her mouth it doesn't take long for her rude, acerbic personality to shine through... which puts people off, and that is mostly on purpose. I could see a fellow sniper or two making an attempt to crack through her shell, though. Depending on timeline, it'd be really cute if an older Chika was able to get her to open up. And of course Azuma might be patient and kind enough to manage it, too (someone please tell me not to give Azuma the World's Worst Daughter) I also think she might have some aptitude for trion engineering, thanks to her past - we know Rhodokhroun has strong Trion Soldier forces despite their small size, and if her parents were involved with developing them at all, the engineering labs might be a place she would immediately feel comfortable. So it'd be cute to have her sort of friendly - or at least Less Rude - with a few of the engineers. They let her hide out in engineering when she wants to avoid people and in return she'll help tinker with triggers that need repair or modifications.
16. Is there a shop in Mikado City they like to frequent?
Not at first, I don't think. She's reclusive and also honestly pretty scared of going out in the open outside of Border, at least early on. Eventually, I could see her having very strong opinions about which restaurants she prefers, and it'd be cute to see someone drag her out of her shell a little to experience more of Meeden for herself.

Only parts of DC's take on MOTU I've read are the crossovers with Thundercats and Injustice (Latter sucked) but I recall one of them opening with Adam fighting Faker inside the Palace and it seeming like that Faker actually did replace him and rule for a bit, due to some civilians commentating afterwards that they preferred how Faker ran things because they "Kept us safe". I like this idea of Faker actually replacing Adam and now having to put their all into playing the role including... 1/3

This is actually one of the things that I feel is missing from several iterations of the franchise, not just DC and Revelation.
Other characters being allowed the chance and time to grow.
In the DC run of the comics, (Eternity War, to be specific), there is a wonderful scene between Adam and Rattlor where Rattlor tells Adam that he values Adam as a leader, and that Adam treats his soldiers with more respect and dignity than King Hiss treated Rattlor. This is a small scene to wrap up an equally small subplot of the Snakemen working with Adam and Teela to liberate Eternia from the Horde.
But imagine if they had allowed that subplot to be a full arc. The Snakemen must come to the difficult decision to work with He-Man against a common enemy invading their planet. Slowly, over the course of several battles, the named Snakeman characters observe Adam's leadership, how he treats his warriors, how he treats his wounded, how he cares for his wounded. And then coming to the big cathartic moment when they finally admit to themselves that their own leader, King Hiss, was not a good ruler. Then growing to be comfortable enough with this revelation to be able to tell Adam himself! To tell their former enemy, He-Man, enemy of the Snakemen, that he is a better leader than the Snakeman king. Gosh I would have loved it if they gave us an arc like that!
Or in the 2002 reboot, we know so little about all the Masters aside from Adam, Teela, and Man-at-Arms! We know Ram Man fought with Randor during Keldor's rebellion because we see him in the flashback (although he has no speaking lines), and we know he is afraid of the dark because they make it a plot point in one episode, and we know that he can be seduced by singing and magic because that was also a plot point in another episode. But 2002 doesn't even tell us his name! Ram Man is an ensemble cast member who appears in more than half of the 2002 episodes, yet he's so underdeveloped that the 3 facts I just listed about him are all we know about him in 2002. Imagine if they had developed him more! Why is a grown man in his 40s afraid of the dark? Not just afraid of the dark, but paralyzed with terror of the dark? How did he become one of Randor's warriors? He's clearly not as well educated as the other Masters, is he from a poor family? Did he join the military for financial opportunities? Ram Man is just one example, but truthfully, all the ensemble cast needed more attention.
In the Classics-Line the situation is even worse! Most of the lore from Classics-Line isn't even in the comics! Most of the lore from the Classics-Line is given to us in interviews with Scott Neithlitch. There's a couple panels in one of the Ultimate Battlegrounds where we see that Man-at-Arms has been transformed into a Snakeman and the dialogue implies that things have been this way for a while. But this is the first the reader ever sees of Snakeman-at-Arms, and then he dies in the same scene. Teela is shown having a very emotional scene where she cries over her father's dead body for 1 whole panel, then Snakeman-at-Arms is never discussed or mentioned again. But imagine if that was a full length arc we could have gotten. How amazing would that have been?
Anyway, back to your original Ask: I would love to read a series about Faker impersonating King Adam and growing as a person either by choice of necessity. Since canon will never give us what we want, I encourage you to write it yourself! Take that passion and write it into a fan fiction!

Gosh, okay, so it's been a couple days since I finished age of calamity and I've had the chance to peruse a fic or two, which is time enough for my initial questions to start getting answered.
So. What actually happened.
Like what happened behind the scenes? What in universe reasoning is there for such drastic changes in circumstances? We've got new characters, new stories, new designs.
The first thing I can say with certainty is that the time line did not, in fact, branch from when Eggy arrived in the past. Somehow, the little creacher managed to land itself in a timeline that had already been long separated.
Why?
Well the first) main thing is obvious - link doesn't have the master sword. How odd. Given how young he found it, and all the chances he would have had since, why not? What was stopping him?
Would it not be in his enemies favour that he hasn't had the chance to train and prepare for the role since he was a child? Who would even know to ensure it didn't happen?
Gee, if only there was a seer 100y ago in hyrule. A prophet of calamity, say.
Imagine if Ganon got his hands on him?
A seer driven half mad, someone with access to rare sheikah tech and the ability to use it.
It was Astor.
And Ganon played him like a fiddle. With the hindsight of the game, it makes a lot of strange things clear. Like what he was Seeing.
Interestingly enough, the divine beasts have all been found. The same champions have been selected, no matter how sabotaged each were. Astors close allies, we learn later. The monsters for daruk, the one lynel finding the missing Prince when dorephan already worried for his children's safety, kogah impersonating urbosa, the harbinger getting terrako mistaken for it.
Instead of a handful of yiga getting intimidated by a fully realised hero when they attack the princess (in a memory), sooga leads a full army to the heart of the kingdom.
He's there in person to try and take control of korok forest, and is shocked by a new master sword power we've never seen before destroying the shadows.
He attacks akkala earlier than in botw. He gathers monsters and uses them in his schemes rather than flooding hyrule with them all at once with Ganon. He tries akkala again, knowing how important its fall is to his plans. He manages to upgrade the blights from what they were in botw. He manages to infuse monsters and guardians with elements. He can recall and deactivate them at a moments notice. It's Fort hateno, an otherwise unremarkable battlefield, that he goes all out, with dozens of guardians, hundreds of monsters, all the blights at once he throws at link without even a moment of thought to Zelda. He was convinced Link would fall.
Astor saw the Breath of the Wild timeline.
He saw things in links memories, he saw us, the player, defeat Ganon. He saw Link die, saw Zelda hold Ganon at bay, saw link's return and the defeat of Ganon. Unlike botw, the Great plateau has already been blocked off (else Rhoam would have rejoined the fight) - no one knows about the shrine of resurrection. Link would have died there, and no matter what Zelda did, that would have meant ganons success.
Because Zelda had strength enough to battle Ganon for a century, but it was Link, not her, who managed to deal the final blow.
Even with the plateau blocked off, there were soldiers investigating the shrine. They were swarmed with monsters, and it was only purahs upgraded teleportation - courtesy of investigating terrako - that saved the day.
Say what you will about Astor, but that man was extremely clever and and cunning, and used his ability to work with sheikah tech and his visions to their FULLEST extent. He was manipulating events to his own advantage, he was ten steps ahead of hyrule at all times, he had backup plans on top of backup plans and he was ruthless enough to use them (killing the yiga for power when they failed). His fanaticism made him come off as significantly less of a threat than he was.
And he was one.
So how did the heroes survive?
Terrako.
That little egg was just enough of a butterfly effect (remember the butterflies everywhere when it first appeared? Not subtle) to give them the chance we needed.
The ability to give all the champions and allies the powers of the slate was just the beginning. That meant they were better able to fight, better able to defend themselves from heavy damage attacks. They could communicate across the battlefield with ease.
The egg could control deactivated guardians. Zelda used it to attack enemy guardians, blow up blockades. Most notably in the first akkala battle.
The egg contained information on the future. This enabled the sheikah to make their own plans in counter to Astor. I believe this is why they went to Fort hateno, with the same foreknowledge Astor had that it was IMPORTANT.
The egg had some hand in calling the future champions, saving every original champion from certain death and crucially enabling reinforcements to reach them in time.
Most importantly, the egg contained invaluable technology, which purah and Robbie uses repeatedly throughout the game to improve their other tech to unprecedented levels, single handedly saving akkala citadel the final time AND saving the plateau (with the shrine of resurrection) and the King himself, not to mention upgrading the fighters abilities even further. Simply put, without Eggy, Astor would have won, devastatingly and even more completely than in Breath of the Wild, the timeline they both seek to change.
But the final thing we learn about Eggy is who created him.
And that was Zelda, against her father's wishes.
In age of calamity, Astor, vessel of ganons hatred, tried to destroy the kingdom.
And it was Zelda's love of her mother and her hobby of tinkering with technology that saved them all.
Take that, rhoam.
