It’s like 1:30am and I’m spiralling so have an obligatory “songs that make me think of Echo characters” post. Enjoy! Flynn Moore - Otter by Don Harvey is such a Chase and Flynn song (specifically TJ’s route. Desperately need an AMV of Chase and Flynn having fun in the lake to this song, interspersed with how TJ’s route actually ended) - Cruising by Don Harvey is a Flynn and Ryan song - (Honestly Flynn just has such strong Don Harvey energy but no one knows this cause Don Harvey has like 16 monthly listeners its insane) Jenna Begay - Blow My Brains Out by Tikkle Me is just so Jenna (especially Jenna and Heather omg) Carl Hendricks - Prologue by Chase Petra - Bugbear by Chloe Moriondo - Sweet Hibiscus Tea by Penelope Scott - (he’s just so sadgirl) Chase Hunter - Labyrinth by Miracle Musical is just so fucking ‘echo protagonist’. Like Chase, Samuel, Mr Font, and Cameron - Stupid Intruder by The Vincent Black Shadow is strong Chase and “””Samuel””” - Umami by Go Child! Leo Alvarez - Two Birds by Regina Spector (I forget who but I saw someone on here say this and they were so right) - Don’t Ever Leave Me by Sharon Prabhakar - (Of fucking course Blurry by Lilybug and Scars by Splingus but I don’t think that a song on the OST nor a fan song count here) TJ Hess - If I Killed Someone for You by Alec Benjamin (I found it on a TJ Chase playlist and they were correct) Sydney Brosnon - Poor Isaac by The Airborne Toxic Event - (wasn’t gonna do Sydney but this song came on while I was making this and holy fguck)
It is now like ten past 2 I need to sleep, thank you for reading my Echo music thoughts I guess.

75 Best Simple Winter Outfits Concepts Outfits, Winter Outfits, Autumn Fashion
Modern fashionable winter coats can be found in a wide selection of kinds, however, wool and cotton proceed to be the warmest and hottest. Some men favor the looks of the lengthy winter coats that nearly path the bottom behind them, and those are nice if the weather and social scene enable street style men. In many instances, a normal winter coat will do the trick. Don’t get the winter blahs as a substitute take a look at these casual winter outfits which are cozy and cozy. I love all these new cute Winter Outfits for girls for 2022.
End-of-Year Sales You’ll Want to Check Out I’ve all the time loved checking out the end-of-year gross sales that occur the week after Christmas. All these items are really primary and simple to combine and match with tons of different stuff in your wardrobe. And the even more gorgeous-in-person white cork earrings are BACK! Also, these pillow covers are available in a set of 4 for $34.ninety five HERE.
Bags are getting the winter remedy with classic types trading their leather exterior for shearling, often in white. Judging by your suggestions, you definitely don’t have the cold men's winter outfits, and snowy, winter weather we have here in Norway. But honestly, this is all you need for any situation that you might end up in.
It is usually composed of man-made materials like polyester. Pick a thin, lightweight model and wear it as a 3rd layer under a grey flannel blazer or suit jacket. The layers closest to your body are crucial for heat and a down vest is a proper option. Goose Down is the layer of warm feathers found beneath the bellies of geese and other fowl.
You cannot go wrong with a silky gown, like this satin charmeuse midi. Style your outfit with a faux-fur wrap or a comfortable cashmere scarf to make it winter-appropriate. You'll look just as cool as it feels exterior when you don anything leather this winter.
I've been so into this vest since I showed this outfit in the Four Comfy Winter Outfits With Leggings! Getting the perfect fit right off the rack is like successfully the lottery. Whether you wear street style mens fashion fits or selvage denim, this guide demystifies the method of tailoring and alterations. Working with a colleague at a restaurant for a break from WFH?
I’m an enormous sweatshirt fan, give it a print and I like it much more. You’ll see from my videos that I find a roll of the sleeve and generally a little tuck, all you need to make a reasonably basic outfit, and look a little less primary. I would totally wear this outfit without the headband as nicely. We have 10 methods to style and rock knee-excessive boots this winter. Not solely that, we've appears and styles to encourage your next fashion outfit or project.
You may even convey some cute mugs and hot chocolate for one thing a bit extra styled. I nonetheless love the traditional wheat-colored boot from the days after I used to put on baggier denim in the late 90s. If I might bear in mind to drag them out of the closet at my parent’s home, I’d wear them. Even if you’re used to checking the time on your phone, your timepiece is a fun approach to show off personal style. A Timex Weekender goes nicely with everything and looks right at home as a fall staple.
But it is valued as an additional penny due to its timeless enchantment. If you're not a fan of technical outerwear, a wool overcoat can do the job of preserving you comfortably warm. Retro-inspired outerwear is a key ingredient to mastering cool-girl dressing in the course of the winter. Whether it’s a tricky moto jacket à la Emily Ratajkowski or a glamorous Old Hollywood leather trench—like Lori Harvey’s. The temps are beginning to drop, so naturally, winter days are on my mind. More particularly, though, the comfortable outfits I plan on sporting all through the colder months are what’s really on my mind.
The cool climate is an enjoyable time for layering on your favourite garments, but do you want more than that when the climate gets actually cold? Luckily, there are ways to stay heat while nonetheless trying great! Start with a warm winter outfits base layer, add on insulation, then top with outerwear and equipment. If you do not often costume formally, there is no need to faux your style only for engagement photos.

Gotham s5ep11  “They Did What?” Personal Review & Rambling
I DID IT .... I WATCHED THE GOTHAM FINALE
Tumblr media
“We need to make it a bomb again.” Absolutely no warning cause that’s all no spoiler anymore for a long time
So I´m not sure if it´s good thing I´m watching this ages late, partly I guess I could be more emotional, partly not. It´s sweet to see how everyone and their aunt is teaming up for the city. “Well, this is gonna make one hell of a bedtime story some day.”   With Nyssa al Ghul holding the baby I briefly totally forgot the plot and wondered where did that child come from again? And my brain went back to the (godawful) “Ra´s present for Barbara is a child” theory, and then I remembered oh no it was Jim ..and I was like .. eh, magic baby would have been the better plot. So that´s how we started this but at least Jim and Barbara were quite sweet, even with the child (I usually just cringe and crumble in sheer terror of what kind of responsibility a child is whenever one of those appears but they made it sweet)  BARBARA KEAN & JIM GORDON were such a great team!  Also Barbara just looks so damn fine, they really did good with that. And just bless the FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHERS of the Show , handcuffed Barbara taking out the guy with her legs > Jim later handcuffing Nyssa to keep her close to not get shot at < Good Stuff!  * ~ 24:05 even up to the Steps of SELINA KYLE , Just the way she walked before fighting Bane was such a neat detail   ”My father made his name destroying empires.” NYSSA AL GHUL I guess with more time she´s got potential but rushed like that her character is just boring.
“Can we really be so cavalier about the destruction of Gotham?” Oh OSWALD COBBLEPOT that´s part of why I fell in love with you. So he and EDWARD NYGMA go over the whole “listening to your heart never did you any good Oswald” spiel, and “I´ll miss you”, or “not so much”, Ed kind of is saying “don´t go” , but just not quite, the usual, you know, I can´t bring myself to care much but damn do I like watching their pretty selves talk through it.  * Edward later follows Oswald, claiming it´s about the city, says the submarine can only operated by two people, and actual people, dog didn´t work.  The usual. * Holy Shit, JIM GORDON ´s so gorgeous. It´s not like I had forgotten how pretty he is but damn that episode hit me hard again with Jim feels. Him over that map, going through their strategy. Daaaamn daaaaaaaaamn. * JIM GORDON & OSWALD COBBLEPOT in something that might as well be just fanfiction: “Oswald, come in.” / “Still have those eyes in the back of your head, Jim.” / “No. You just have a remarkably recognizable odor. Part dandy, part snake. After all these years, it hasn't changed. Drink?” / “No, thank you. Dulls the senses.” /  “That's what I was going for. Surprised you're still here. Figured you'd be long gone by now. That storm you've warned me about for so long, it's finally here.” /  “Sure, I could escape... with money, I might add... but then what? Stand on the shores of the mainland and watch the army burn it to the ground? Then watch tasteless industrialists and vapid politicians rebuild it? No. My life is etched on the walls of every alley and dirty warehouse here. My blood lives in its broken concrete. I'm staying to fight. For my legacy.” * LESLIE THOMPKINS caring about the people of the Narrows was great, I don´t know, if I like that she “abandoned” them in order to stand next to Jim but I can let it pass because of the way she did: She respected and trusted BARBARA KEAN to get them out. I can accept a plot that doesn´t pit those two women against each other (anymore). It was equally great that Lee just told Jim to “yes, go to your child”, and not to forget the scene where Barbara is thanking Lee for what she did, and “Barbara Lee Gordon”  * Lucius is full on providing gadgets for Bruce, including that Bat Beacon that slowed down Bane. Nice but eh.  Also they rehash Jeremiah´s plan to turn the city in a labyrinth to slow down the army. “We need to make it a bomb again.” Battery goes Bomb again, but eh, kind of fell flat for me
* HARVEY BULLOCK pointing out they are fighting SOLDIERS that are just following orders was a good touch. And it makes sense that JIM could brush that aside, he knows what they signed up for. That´s what you do, that´s what you accept. * Also I can stan a good  story that rejects and is a slap in the face of  the "NUREMBERG DEFENSE" so props to that! Just the execution fell so remarkably flat for me. I felt nothing then the people came back with Barbara, nothing when the soldiers pointed their guns at Bane.  BRUCE WAYNE & SELINA KYLE   Just Selina checking in with a “Bruce?” to make sure he actually wants to do that bomb thing was so precious. Also her recognizing that he is and accepting his choice. [Rant Below]  Them later sitting on the stairs and talking was sweet too, except for what they talked about.  SELINA KYLE MRs. & MR WAYNE So apparently they paralleled those in this episode 1.  Selina´s shadow is just right under the painting of Mrs & Mr Wayne and Bruce just plants the bomb right in the middle of her shadow ~19:40) 2.  Selina telling Bruce on the stairs she will be there whenever he needs her and Bruce replying that this is what his parents used to tell him.     Which is a good setup for the kind of conclusion Bruce draws out of all of this but also I´m gonna rant about it below but first:  3. Bruce says his parents would have and did sacrifice everything for the city. He´s making the same choice but apparently can´t see that Selina has as much a choice to do so as he and Mrs & Mr Wayne have .  So in the end I´m getting overly emotional, angry, hurt, let down to be precise:  How dare BRUCE WAYNE leave SELINA KYLE  behind like this?! Given the backstory that´s bound to be so much more painful than whatever Jeremiah or Bane ever could do. Selina has been through this after Jeremiah and she made a choice. She stayed, she thought and she was (not that that matters but let´s not forget it) damn good at it. I know Bruce thinks he´s making a “sacrifice” but how dare he take away this choice from her. How dare he hurt her like that.
* Most importantly though ALFRED PENNYWORTH in that COAT at the end looked so damn dashing. I´m in love. But I don´t like that they made a point of benching his character like that. He added plenty to the fight, he´s been in hospital before, he can add still contribute like he always did. Don´t let it end like this. Yeah I do need at least three seasons to magically happen before the 5th. OSWALY COBBLEPOT & EDWARD NYGMA Round #2  * Edward apologizes for freezing because of the grenade, Oswald understands. Edward gags when seeing Oswald´s hurt eye but claims it is just a scratch. * Back in a remarkable awesome looking place they lick their wounds: > Oswald feels not appreciated he wants “credit for our loyalty, our selfless bravery?” aka Love.  > Edward however feels better than everyone else. He used to be “Shy awkward, pathetic Ed”. Not anymore. He´s better! “I don't want their thanks. Or their respect. You know what I felt, standing shoulder to shoulder with those people out there? Nothing. I... feel... absolutely nothing for those drab... boring people.” Never again. I've shown this city who I truly am once before, and I will do it again. They will bow to the Riddler, and they won't get up until I permit them to.” >> The notion of the “Thankless Job” is there too with Ed but Ed get his kicks out of separating himself from the people, he´s different and above them he doesn´t care about their opinion and has no real stakes in their well being. Oswald however obviously still want´s the recognition of said people, and he wants the good and nice kind, so it´s important that they aren´t miserable.  However “Yes. You're right. Our accomplishments have been erased, our brilliant minds underrated. If they had let me run this city the way I wanted to, it would not be in ruins now. I had the men, the money, - the guns... “ 1. Oswald falls in line with Ed´s reasoning, appeals to his brilliance spleen but tweaks it for his need.  Edward says he has to rule and they have to bow to him.  Os says Ed is right, follows in line with Ed in reassuming a strife for leadership but adds his twist that this is necessary not so much because he (just as Ed thinks he is) is superior but because his leadership is “good” for the people. He´ll do good for them so they´ll like him.  >>> Oswald wants to rule to not have the city in ruins and get praised for that >>> Edward wants to rule because he´s better and deserves so regardless of other imbeciles thoughts or needs.  2. Divide et Imperare Edward is quick to make sure to point a finger to an enemy and separate Oswald from Jim “Gordon took them.”  Oswald just might as well try to go back to old methods and try build alliances with Jim and the law again, Edward recently saw Oswald and Jim kind of teaming up again and he just can´t have that. Just like Mr. Penn was in the way. Jim is a threat.  One to be undermined at all costs: “Gordon took them. Why? Because he still sees you as Fish Mooney's umbrella boy, and he always will.”
3. One Ring to bind them. Edward starts with a selfish reason but is quick to put Oswald back into the plan. First there´s “I” suddenly he talks about a “We”:  “I only came back to help him save this city so that I could take it for myself. We would be stronger together. No one could stop us.”  4. Do they believe each other?! Apparently they don´t because the both go in the hug with a drawn knife but are relieved when they don´t feel one in their own back. Which was really nice and fitting imagery. I can live with that “conclusion” but I have so much open questions.  I really got to look for post that worked through all of this. > Oswald obviously must be weary of Edward because (I just have to believe) that he sees through the manipulating words of Edward. (as listed above) [[[ Especially the scene with Jim: They had a rather respectful, familiar interaction. I can´t quite believe that he follows Edward´s claim that JIM only thinks of him as that umbrella boy. I do think Oswald gets that Jim takes him serious, just well considers all his crime stuff to be wrong, and that´s quite a different thing than what Ed claims.]]]  > What is Edward´s angle there? Yeah he might not have been able to operate the submarine alone but granted his speech it sounded like he would think that he is capable of taking the city for and by himself. Why is he appealing to Oswald to form a “we”?  Just to get him in the hug situation and test him, asses a possible future threat to his claims?  The only other proper motivation for that would be …. he likes Oswald.  5. “Brothers” Hahahah * Okay, but Oswald´s face when Edward and his mirror self do their thing …Damn …. * 8:26 Are the “Captain Jim Gordon” letters on his door window colour ??! * Jankey Piss Whiskey, what is Jim drinking?  * Oh no, not the General

Harvey Kinkle x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1,697 words
Warnings: none
Summary: Reader is a witch hunter who wants to teach Harvey about where he comes from, and what his family used to be.
———————————————————————————————————
Sabrina had done all the hard work for you when she told Harvey what she was, and what she'd done with his dead brother. Her bad choices hadn't left her with any other options, but from your position, it could only be a positive.
He was a descendant of a strong line of witch hunters and ignoring that part of himself wasn't acceptable.
It was his blood right to be a hunter, to at least learn what he was. At some point, someone was going to have to tell him the truth and in this moment, that someone was going to be you.
You knew where he was coming from and you understood.
You were one with him, one of his kind and it was only natural that the two of you be together.
There was nothing natural about the coupling of a witch and a hunter. It was unnatural and unacceptable as far as you were concerned. Your kind and theirs were natural enemies.
It was the only way.
The gunshot could be heard all over Greendale.
To everyone else, it was probably easy to ignore, simply background noise to their alright quite noisy existences. But to you, it was something else entirely. That gunshot to you, signified the start of something new.
You were going to turn Harvey Kinkle into a regular witch hunter before the week was out...guaranteed.
~
"Can I talk to you for a second?" you asked, brushing your hand lightly along his back as you passed behind his locker. The two of you had never spoken before today but that was only circumstance.
Soon enough, you two would have more to talk about than there was time for in the day.
However, you were going to need to get to know him a little better first.
He looked confused at your appearance at his side, considering he'd never met you before. That being said, he didn't feel the need to question it. Whatever it was that you needed to say, he was all ears.
After everything he'd learned recently about the world around him, there was nothing you could say that would shock him.
"You're a Kinkle right? Harvey?" You checked, already knowing that you were talking to the right guy. You needed a way to break the ice and start the conversation, and that would be the perfect way.
He nodded, still unsure of what you were getting at. It didn't make any sense to him.
However, there was something about you that drew him in, no matter how much he didn’t really want it. Somehow, he felt like he’d known you all his life.
“My name is Y/N Y/L/N, our families go way back” You grinned, watching a wave of recognition wash over his face. He had never personally met another Y/L/N but his grandfather talked about them all the time.
Apparently, they had been his closest hunting companions back in the day. Of course, it wasn’t until recently that he learned what kind of hunting.
Harvey wondered momentarily if you knew what your family did in their spare time? Was it possible that you knew their secret as well?
He couldn’t be sure.
“Yeah, granddad talks about your family all the time...they used to hunt together” he said, placing special emphasis on the word as if to try and convey some kind of secret message.
It nearly made you laugh as you looked at his face. He had so much to learn about who he was. He was a Kinkle after all, he should have been proud to come from such a strong bloodline.
“I know, we come from some very skilled hunters” you nodded, sending a wink his way to let him know that you, in fact, knew.
That was quite interesting.
At the very least, you could be sure that Harvey knew that he came from a hunter’s family line but more difficult would be connecting the dots to right now.
Hunters were a bit of a dying breed but for the families that still practiced your traditions, it was very important to keep it going.
“Harvey, I would like to take you hunting, if you’d allow me too. Animals of course, I wouldn’t want to make you uncomfortable” you assured, knowing that with his history with witches, it would take quite some time to get him to work up to something like that.
You were no monster.
You wanted Harvey to know that you had his best interest at heart and that he could trust you because you two were of the same kind.
The hunting life was one that he should be proud of, abundantly proud of for all his life.
Though at first you could see that he wasn’t sure.
Harvey had only attempted hunting for the first time recently with his own family and that had went terribly.
He just had no idea if it was a good idea to try to do it again with a virtual stranger.
However, there was something about you that drew him in. You were the only connection he had to the part of himself that he’d never known.
At the very least, he wanted to see what you could teach him.
What could it hurt?
~
The two of you agreed to meet out by the mines at first before heading into the dense woods.
There wasn’t very much interference from people out here and it was nothing but trees for as far as the eye could see.
You had always found peace surrounded by woods. It reminded you just how small you all were and made you feel weightless, as if you were floating through the air, moving in unison with the leaves on the trees.
Every sense that you had was heightened, and every movement had intention behind it.
It was perfect, and you were so happy to be able to share a moment like that with Harvey.
The leaves crunched beneath your feet as you walked through over fallen branches and acorns. Behind you, you could also catch Harvey’s more tentative steps.
“There, do you see that?” you whispered, turning back to look at him. You’d been tracking a buck through the woods this entire time, and it was all coming together now.
Laying in the clearing with a single buck, his ears relaxed and his breathing steady. He had no idea that you were even there, which was perfect.
The brunette nodded, holding the shotgun tightly to his frame as he tried to decipher what your next move would be.
He had never been in this situation before, and he wasn't sure if he'd be able to go through with it. However, he didn't want to disappoint you. It was clear that you cared a lot about all this stuff, and he wanted to know as much about it as possible.
After all, it was in his blood.
It should have been easy. All he had to do was pull the trigger, and you would take care of everything else.
When he looked over at you for some guidance, you had your rifle at your side, the barrel in the dirt. You were waiting for him, this was some kind of test. Harvey took a deep breathe, trying to steady his heart as he raised the barrel up toward the animal.
All he had to do was pull the trigger, but he couldn't.
He didn't want to kill an animal if he didn't have to. It just wasn't something he ever thought he would have to do.
"Steady Kinkle, you have a clear shot" you encouraged, already knowing well enough that he wasn't going to take it. You knew from the moment you met him, but you weren't upset.
Harvey had a trait that most other witch hunters didn't, he cared. He cared about the well being of other living things, and he wouldn't even hurt a fly if he could help it. It was strange to you but in some way, you admired it.
You had never stopped to think before pulling the trigger. Perhaps you were distant from it, too distant. All you did was shoot and watch something die a few feet away, all without blinking an eye...
But maybe you didn't have to be that way.
"I'm sorry, I can't do it" he huffed, after a few seconds. He had just been watching the deer through the scope of his gun and he'd made his decision. There was no way that he was going to kill it.
He just couldn't.
It wasn't as if he was doing this out of necessity. He didn't have to kill it to survive or for food or anything like that. There was absolutely no reason he could think of other than impressing you, and if this was what it took, it wasn't worth it.
However, you weren't angry like he thought you would be. Instead, you had a smile on your face...which he just didn't understand.
"I know, I'm glad" you hummed, taking his gun and laying it on the ground with your own.
Once they were safely out of the way, you threw your arms around his neck, giving him the biggest hug in the world.
He had been given a choice that you never were, and you were so happy with his choice. No one had ever asked you if you wanted to hunt and kill witches. It was never a matter of what you wanted, but Harvey did get to choose.
...And he'd made the right one.
"I'm lost, I thought you wanted me to hunt with you?" he wondered, shocked that you were now changing your tune. He thought for sure that you would be angry with him like his father was when he couldn't do it.
But you were still smiling.
"I did, but I would never make you...it's not who you are" you hummed, finally stepping away from him once it donned on you that you face was still a few inches from his own.
Harvey had a better way and maybe, in time, he could teach you.

BATMAN #360-361, DETECTIVE COMICS #527-528 JUNE - JULY 1983 BY DOUG MOENCH, DON NEWTON, DAN DAY, GENE COLAN, KLAUS JANSON, PABLO MARCOS AND ADRIENNE ROY
SYNOPSIS (FROM DC DATABASE)
Two police officers have been murderer in Gotham City and a third victim managed to survive the attack of a new serial killer on the loose.
Meanwhile, it's been a month since Bruce Wayne has become Jason Todd's guardian and the kid has been training hard, hoping to become the next Robin; and idea that Batman doesn't like. After their training session, Batman is contacted about the recent murders and he summons the Dark Knight to interrogate the only survivor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The police officer can't remember details about the attack and Gordon provides Batman with a list of police officers that share similar background to the victims. Like this, Batman starts investigating all the possible victims, without a clear answer. However, one of the officers he interrogates mentions a former partner, who shares a similar background, but that no longer works as a police. After learning about Jack Crane, Batman goes to interrogate the former police officer, but the man who provided the information is soon attacked by the serial killer.
Batman finds Jack Crane's home and upon entering, he realizes it is the place of the serial killer, who now calls himself Savage Skull. From looking at the place, Batman learns that the former officer has a hit list and the last man on the list is Commissioner Gordon. When Skull returns home, he confronts Batman, but is unable to defeat the Dark Knight and instead chooses to escape with the murder weapon that he will use on Gordon.
Tumblr media
Batman rushes to Gordon's home, where he finds his friend alive and well, except for medical complications that have started with the age. Batman informs Gordon about Crane and his new identity as Savage Skull and he tells Batman about Crane's past and the reason why he was removed from the force after a terrible incident, in which he lost his face skin. Despite his tragedy, Crane was still found guilty because of the use of excessive force. Batman finally deduces that Crane is out to kill all the officers who denied him his rights and has set out to murder them.
At that moment, Savage Skull breaks into Gordon's house and Batman immediately attacks the killer, taking the fight outside. After a brief chase, Batman confronts Skull near the river, where Skull acts out of desperation and jumps againt Batman, who dodges the attack, forcing Skull to plunge into the river. With the killer gone, Batman asks Gordon to tell his men to drag the river and find Savage Skull.
Robert Langstrom has been working himself too hard back at his old job at the Gotham Natural History Museum. His drive has been so strong that Langstrom forgot to take the antidote that prevents him from changing into Man-Bat. For this reason, Langstrom once again turns into Man-Bat, and his madness returns, believing that all his problems are caused by Batman.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Commissioner Gordon has not being able to locate the body of Savage Skull and Mayor Hill is giving Gordon a hard time for the lack of results. Noting Gordon's declining health, Hill decides to give Gordon and assistant, a person who will make things worse for the Police Commissioner.
Tumblr media
At Wayne Manor, Jason Todd asks Bruce to go out to see a movie at night and unable to deny the kid such request, Bruce is forced to cancel a date with Vicki Vale, who is not too happy about the situation.
Tumblr media
At night, Bruce and Jason prepare to go out, but Man-Bat has returned to the Batcave, the same place where he last confronted Batman. Making his way to Wayne Manor, Man-Bat strikes and Bruce goes into action as Batman. The struggle is taken back to the Batcave and Jason follows them, hoping to help in any way. When Man-Bat gets the upper hand on the fight, Jason attacks the monster, saying something about his "father". Man-Bat realizes that there is a connection between Batman and the kid, and he kidnaps the boy to make Batman suffer in the same way as he had suffered after the loss of his daughter. Batman realizes that Man-Bat has lost his mind once again, but the kidnapping of Jason makes him lose his temper and vows to find and kill Man-Bat once and for all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason Todd has been kidnapped by Man-Bat, who expects to transform the kid into a bat like him, in revenge against Batman for "taking away his daughter". After the abduction, Batman starts looking in the caverns nearby the Batcave, knowing that Man-Bat is already long gone.
Tumblr media
In fact, Man-Bat has taken Jason to a small town near Gotham, where the townsfolk become aware of Man-Bat's presence in the church's belltower. When the Gotham City Police Department arrive to investigate the "monster", Mat-Bat flies away with Jason and one of the officers fire his weapon, creating a big explosion in the nearby gas station. The fire attracts Batman, who picks up Man-Bat's trail.
Moments later, Batman visits Francine Langstrom and asks her assistance to help her husband. After explaining the situation, Bruce contacts Vicki Vale and asks a favor, which would help him against Man-Bat.
Meanwhile, the monster has taken Jason to the basement of the Gotham Natural History Museum, where he starts preparing a new strain of Man-Bat Serum to turn Jason into one like him. Batman eventually finds Man-Bat at the museum and after a brief confrontation in the upper floors, he descends to the basement laboratory, where Batman uses cardboard cutouts of Francine and Rebecca Langstrom with a recorded tape of her voices. The shock of the images and sound combined, make Man-Bat unstable and Batman takes the chance to attack. A struggle starts once again and knowing that Batman might need assistance, Jason breaks free from his bonds and attacks Man-Bat from behind, giving Batman the chance to inject the antidote on Langstrom and returning him to human once more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After these events, things seem to be going normal for almost everyone, except Commissioner Gordon, who learns that Mayor Hill has assigned him a new assistant and it is none other than Harvey Bullock.
Tumblr media
As the new Assistant Commissioner, Harvey Bullock re-opens the case of the Savage Skull and he sends members of the Gotham City Police Department looking for the criminal. As expected, Skull is still alive and he murders yet another police officer.
The next day, Mayor Hill summons Commissioner Gordon to discuss the recent events and how bad the whole situation looks for him. Back at the GCPD Headquarters, Gordon is unable to concentrate as Bullock has taken control of his offices and he takes the lead on the investigations. At night, Gordon is visited by Batman, who gives him words of encouragement and after their "pep talk", Gordon uses Bullock's notes to crack the case.
Later, Bullock goes to an abandoned building that was formerly used by the GCPD to train young officers. As Bullock deduced, Skull is waiting inside and he attacks Bullock, despite their former friendship. Gordon arrives in time to save Bullock, but as a result, he is stabbed in the shoulder. At that moment, Batman appears and confronts the Skull, who challenges Batman to a hand-to-hand combat. The fight is pretty even, but in the end, Batman defeats the killer, allowing Bullock to arrest the criminal, while Batman takes Gordon to receive medical assistance.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Harvey Bullock summons a press conference to inform about the capture of Skull, but the takes the chance to bash against Gordon, making him look bad in the eyes of the entire city.
REVIEW
And this is how Doug Moench’s (first) Batman run started. I think it’s a good start, he is warming up with a detective story, some character arcs, political intrigue, and a crazed villain. Bringing back Bullock is just a bonus (it’s hard to remember that Bullock wasn’t a good cop).
The art is getting darker and darker. The issue illustrated by Dan Day made me check twice that it wasn’t Paul Gulacy.
And speaking of that issue, I used to have the spanish version of it, signed by Denny O’Neil. Wasn’t perfect though, he got my name wrong and he signed again in the interior :p
Thanks anyway, Denny ;)
Bringing back Gene Colan is also a very pleasant surprise. I know this is the last part of the pre-crisis Batman, and it includes some of the first Batman stories I ever read.
Now, let’s talk about Jason Todd. Gerry Conway did a good job introducing the character, but here... it feels a lot like a Dick Grayson replacement (I think many adaptations and later retellings of Grayson’s origins, include the things happening in these issues). Jason manages to get kidnapped!
You gotta give it to Jason, even when he is not an annoying brat, he makes you want to scream.
I give these issues a score of 8

The Reasons Social Media Breaks Can Help Our Mental Health
I haven’t written for a while and I don’t have one solid reason. I have several.
Embrace your creativity
Working more than usual, for which I’m grateful.
Parenting — As a single mom of two teens, that’s a job in and of itself. My kids are good yet ya know, they’re KIDS.
Owning my own business and all that comes with that — fabulous clients who depend on me to be fabulous means 18-hour days just to run meet the demands, and that’s with an assistant! Not to mention the administrative crap, taxes, and all that.
Personal relationship — private. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.
Writing — Broken People is in the hands of my amazing editor and loyal friend. She lost her beloved mother so she understandably took time off. I know I want/need to add more to the book, yet I’m patiently waiting to get my structural edit back to find out what to write to fill those holes.
Focus  — more on my business writing, chats, and clients. I’m pulling together my third biz book and finding joy in helping writers navigate book marketing, branding, and social media.
The main reason I’ve not been blogging here? I’ve felt this online fatigue. I’m just…tired. Tired of the ranting and raving, of people’s entitlement over what I choose to post. Over what others post. Of the attacks. We’ve become a nation of attackers and attackees.
Will pain soaked in rage one day become empathy? Or something far darker…
What Happened to the Art of Conversation on Social Media?
The camaraderie which drew me to Twitter, Facebook, other channels, and even blogging is now full of blowhards teeming with rage and vitriol about well, everything. From books to politics to #MeToo to even cats (always a safe choice), sharing our lived truths has now become filled with denials, gaslighting, and people thrusting their absolute right to judge with aggressive opinions on what others have lived and experienced — and I’m just super fucking over it.
As I wrote in my post on protecting ourselves from social media trolls, I employ those same protections — yet those steadfast on spreading toxicity still slip through. As an advocate, vocal survivor and compassionate supporter of other survivors, I realize that puts a target on me because I’m willing to ruffle feathers. I’m here to have those difficult conversations.
Yet, it can be exhausting.
Twitter: I took a few days off Twitter this week. A few days off Facebook the week before. Why? Well, with regard to my tweets about what happens to survivors (regarding the brain and neuroscience), people decided to throw back as me enabling Harvey Weinstein (as if) and the latest situation with Asia Argento (I’ve made no comment on that). So to use my tweets as somehow part of those conversations made no sense.
Projection. People making assumptions about me without looking at my bio, what my tweets were in reference to, etc. One person became upset with how someone else used my tweet. I mean. This is not my problem.
Facebook: I shared a quote with the word ‘motherfucker’ in it, and someone decided I’m supporting rape culture because of that, and she decided to call me out on her page as a rape apologist. The quote itself is empowering.
I make the choice whether to engage. In some instances, I did respond with compassion and empathy and had good conversations with a few people about the long-term effects of sexual abuse on the brain — something more people need to learn and understand.
People are hurt and angry. Many are survivors themselves. I’m feeling the feels, too. I’ve lived with this rollercoaster for four decades. It’s a long, hard road to healing.
I’m a huge believer in The Four Agreements and this one: don’t take anything personally is more important than ever right now. People say what they say based on their own point of view and belief system.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
My point: this harsh criticism directed at me or ANY survivor and/or advocate is so entirely lacking in compassion, I’m having a hard time getting my head — and heart — around it. Yet, it’s NOT really directed at me. People are projecting their reality onto us. Being vulnerable in this situation is simply not a choice. And usually, I’m Teflon. Lately, I’m not.
So, I made the decision to check out of social media for a few days for self-care.
Is Social Media Necessary?
We make our own experiences on social media. I’ve always believed that and still do. It’s helpful for building communities (e.g., the #SexAbuseChat I founded back in 2013 has become a wonderful, supportive community for survivors and I look so forward to these conversations each week – Tuesdays, 6pm pst/9pm est). Chats are such a terrific way to meet others with common interests and learn from one another.
But…is it necessary? Naw. We can all live our lives just fine without it. As writers and business owners, it is extremely important for branding, networking, and connection. It’s super helpful for connecting with readers. Is it the only way? Naw. There are lots of ways writers can still connect in other non-social media ways: advertising, conferences, newsletters, book clubs, writing articles, podcasts, etc.
For visibility sake, I strongly recommend it. For your mental health sake? If it’s too much, take a break or hire someone to handle it all for you. An aside: I have one client who simply cannot focus on writing if she checks into social media, so she only handles Instagram (because she’s a photographer and she loves the photog community there). She has never once logged into her Twitter, Facebook, G+, LinkedIn, or Pinterest, and says she never will (and she’s got many, many bestsellers). She simply finds it too overwhelming and stressful.
Social Media/Mental Health Decisions
Here’s what we need to ask ourselves:
What is your goal in having social media accounts?
If you go without social media, do you feel better or worse?
Is being on social media hurting you? If so, how?
Is social media making you anxious and depressed or in some way, affecting your mental health?
Is social media stopping you from writing your book?
I asked myself all these questions and decided to take a break from my personal accounts. Even a day or two made a difference. I didn’t announce it. I just did it. And the world didn’t end. In fact, I felt like a weight had been lifted.
I can’t afford to shut it all off entirely since clients pay me good money to create and manage their content and channels for them. Besides author branding and book marketing (and writing my own books), social media IS my business. I can’t afford to not be on it. I can afford to give my brain and mental health a break from the personal attacks, though.
Making Positive Mental Health Changes
Many people become addicted to social media; the studies are well-known. If you fall into this category, I suggest consciously weaning yourself, and slowly adding back in real-life interactions (interestingly, suggesting this on Twitter created personal attacks). Make your mental health a priority over social media. Crazy suggestion, I know.
Imagine that — suggesting something so crazy
Tumblr media
as talking to people face-to-face. What am I thinking! (And I get the whole introvert thing. I’m an introvert. That’s completely different than a recluse who never leaves their home.)
Embrace your creativity. What can you be doing besides chatting on Facebook or arguing with people on social media? Get creative! Write, paint, draw, think, whatever. Just do something. Change that negative energy into positive energy.
My own strategy: unfollowing and whittling down my own followers on my personal accounts, as well as blocking and muting a ton of people, as is my right. These changes feel good. Taking action feels good.
Social media is what we make it, and I am owning it, as opposed to it owning me.

Where’s the Fun in This? Chap 1
I decided to post the first chap of my fic here before on ao3. Hope you guys like it! It was fun to write :)
It starts with an explosion.
Rather, a message to Bruce about an explosion. One over at Arkham Asylum. It’s a common enough occurrence, criminals escaping every once in awhile. Bruce is no stranger to these calls. It’s maybe a night-long job. So this isn’t the fact that this happened that worries him.
It’s all about the timing. The week before the Gotham City gala, an annual charity ball. Normally this wouldn’t bother him either, but it’s the matter of who escaped. Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. One of the wealthiest criminals running the underground, able to entice others with his riches and mingle with high society. All this screams out Something is wrong to Bruce. Oswald’s ambitious, but surely not ambitious enough to try anything at the gala, right?
Except due to the timing of this breakout, that seems to be the plan exactly. And Bruce can’t let that happen.
Of course it would happen on a relatively quiet night.
“They can never give me a day off,” Bruce mutters to himself halfheartedly. It’s no less than he expected. When you turn vigilante there aren’t many opportunities to slack off. New plots, new villains. Always crime and attempts at shaking up what most Gothamites would consider an otherwise normal life.
Bruce gets ready, putting on his batsuit carefully, the heavy but flexible armour a second skin to him. He passes Alfred in the lab, his butler always at the ready when he dons his suit.
“Sir, are you sure you won’t have Master Tim help you? He needs more experience, and this seems like an eventful evening.”
“Exactly. This feels off, even for Gotham, and I don’t want him in the middle. Just because one criminal escaped doesn’t mean there aren’t more on the loose. Arkham and Blackgate can’t hold all of them, you know.
“Agreed. Promise you’ll be careful.”
Bruce remains silent, both men knowing how easy it would be to break that promise. “I’ll tell you if something comes up, Alfred. Does Oracle know?”
“I believe so sir, she should be in contact with you when she finds something.”
Bruce gives a small nod, reassured. He strides off to the garage, starting up the Batmobile, ready to head into Gotham and investigate. The door opens and he drives off, the sky just beginning to darken into the inky grey that complements the city lights in the distance. The long road is empty as usual, save the stray greenery. His car’s lights are the only thing illuminating the darkness, his focus on the road, the skyline getting closer. The sooner this night ends the better, but Bruce knows he’ll be spending a fair amount of time on finding out what’s really going on in the dark city.
His car skids to a stop a short way away from the GCPD, hidden in the shadows while Bruce goes to discuss Gotham’s goings-on with Commissioner Gordon. He grapples to the top of the building, messaging Gordon. The man appears a short time later, hair whipping at his wind and clothes in the cool autumn air.
“So you’ve heard.”
“What happened at Arkham?”
Gordon shakes his head. “Beyond the fact that someone blew up a wall to escape? Not much. We know it’s Cobblepot, but reports are sketchy on whether or not anyone else is gone. The asylum is in chaos, I’m told. I have some of my men headed over.”
Bruce nods, his mask-clad face hiding his expression. “I need to find Cobblepot. Keep me posted.” Usually Alfred’s get the information sooner, but right now Bruce will take any hint he can get.
He stands at the edge of the building, ready to get back to the Batmobile, Gordon watching.
“I’ll have some men patrolling, I’ll make sure they know not to shoot you,” he calls after him.
Bruce smirks, diving off the roof without responding. The police force is made up of people who like and hate him, no doubt there would be some asshole ready to shoot without a second thought. Tonight it’ll be more of an irritation than usual, but he has bigger things to worry about.
To start, he decides on visiting the Penguin’s usual hangouts. It’s as good a place as any to start, in his opinion. He won’t bother with Penguin’s club though, it’d be futile to search it, Penguin knows it’s the first place he’d search. It’s also suicide since he has many alliances in his club, and no doubt by now they know he’ll be hiding from Bruce.
Bruce parks the Batmobile to the side, grappling to the closest tall building around Chinatown, which is one of the few areas that the nights see hustle and bustle. Any hint of suspicious activity and he focuses on the person causing it. Some are common thieves, running away from the few cops on patrol in the small part of Gotham. While the area is a perfect place for distraction, nothing too serious goes on. The police catch the thief, a young man clutching an old woman’s purse. Likely the most serious crime the police will have to deal with here. He leaves that to them, scanning the area intently while he waits for either a message from Alfred or Oracle.
For the most part Chinatown is uneventful, Bruce growing antsy and realising this must not be where Penguin has disappeared to. Next he decides to check the nearby Diamond District, hoping for a bit more of a lead. He calls the Batmobile over, driving off.
There are a few misdeeds he comes across, but it’s quiet again. Old Gotham is one of the likeliest places at this point, some criminals decide to hide under the GCPD’s nose. This would work, except for the fact Gordon would probably have noticed something by now. Or even Oracle, who has been silent this whole time. Why does tonight feel so different from every other? Something feels...off kilter.
Bruce shakes off the feeling. Maybe I should go check Old Gotham, just in case. It won’t do much harm. Who knows, maybe Gordon did overlook something.
“Batman?” A wave of relief washes over Bruce when he hears Oracle's voice.
“Have you found something?”
“Nothing too serious, but there are a few thugs around on Founder’s Island. They haven’t mentioned anything of importance yet. I’ll keep you updated.”
“Thank you, Oracle.”
“No problem.” Oracle signs off. At least he has that area under surveillance. He drives over to Old Gotham, doing a quick sweep on the streets before deciding to traverse the tops of buildings. He rests at the top of a bridge near the GCPD, the city lights illuminating the streets below. The only thing to do now is watch and wait, he supposes.
A half-hour goes by like this with no hint of trouble. Bruce decides on ten more minutes, if nothing happens by then he’ll go check one of the other areas not yet searched. The cold air barely penetrates his suit, and he thanks the extra padding. He would surely be frozen by now if not for the suit. He shifts, eyes refocusing. It isn’t quite relaxing being up here, but he is rather tired, nothing bothering to keep him awake and after two nights hunting down Dent before this being exhausted. Maybe...
“So, I’ve been thinking.”
It takes all Bruce’s willpower not to jump, losing his concentration until his focus on searching for Penguin (or taking a quick nap) fades from his thoughts. The one person he doesn’t need to see today, Joker stands next to him, leaning against a pillar, and if he had spoken up Bruce would never have noticed him. He sends the Joker a half-hearted scowl, trying to maintain just a bit of focus and eyeing the roads.
“What are you doing here, Joker?”
Joker grins nonchalantly, hands in his pockets. His face is a picture of innocence, despite the war paint meant to intimidate. He’s anything but innocent, and despite his casual pose Bruce sees the glint in Joker’s eyes. It’s a giveaway. Nothing about this is casual. A week before the Gotham City gala and Penguin decides to break out of Arkham, leaving everything up in the air. Part of a wall at Arkham Asylum was blown up, from the outside, allowing him to escape and leaving guards too off-guard to react quickly. He hasn’t heard much since then, though he put Alfred in charge of getting the footage of what really happened.
“I was in the area.” Bruce snorts. A hundred feet in the air on a bridge, lying in wait for Two-Face, isn’t the most conventional rendezvous point, especially when the Joker is supposed to be behind bars at Arkham. “Still looking for Oz, huh? Bats, he’s only been missing for what? Two hours? Nothing’s really happened in that time, why so stressed? It’d be different if it was me, of course,” he chuckles at Bruce’s unimpressed glare, “But Ozzy, well, he’s not worth your time.”
“He’s planning something.”
“Hmm.” Joker hums noncommittally, taking his left hand out of his pocket and inspecting his sharp nails. He side-eyes Bruce, letting his hand rest at his side. “You know, if you were gonna worry about anything, I thought it’d be about Dent.” Bruce watches the streets, waiting for a call from Alfred or Oracle. “He’s still in Arkham. I just put him there.”
“He is? That’s news to me, Bats-old-boy. You know, he was my neighbour in Arkham. I tend to notice when the cells next to me are empty. No banging on walls or muttering curses.”
That clicks in Bruce’s mind. It’s one thing for Joker to escape from Arkham on occasion, maybe taking someone along for the ride, but for both Dent and Cobblepot to have escaped?
“I was told Cobblepot was alone when he escaped.”
“Oh, he was. It took the chaos that ensued after for Cobblepot to escape. Me? Well, I might have taken advantage too. I’m just breathing in as much fresh air as I can before you lock me back up. That won’t be for a while though, don’t worry,” he shoots a look at Bruce. “I’m just here for conversation.”
This doesn’t reassure Bruce. “And you weren’t the one to help them escape at all?”
Joker feigns a hurt expression. “Me? I thought you knew me better. I look out for myself. But between you and me…” Joker’s voice turns a little darker, eyes narrowing. “I don’t think Harvey and Oz were planning on me getting out.”
“You shouldn’t have.”
Another shrug. “I was going batty in there,” he laughs at the pun, smirking at Bruce. “In truth, I missed you.” He bats his eyes flirtatiously, his smile teasing, and Bruce fights the urge to punch the clown in the face. Said clown pouts at Bruce’s expression.
“What? No reciprocation of feelings? No, ‘my closest enemy was behind bars and I’ve had nothing to do, woe is me’?” I’m wounded, truly I am.”
“You have five seconds before I throw you back into Arkham.” Although I should be doing that anyway… However, tonight was not a good night for Joker’s antics, regardless. He’d deal with him later.
“Alright, alright. Geez, always so uptight. Just a tip? Make sure you check the docks. You never know what you’ll find there.” He pats Bruce on the back as he passes. “Nice cowl by the way. New suit? The colour matches your personality.” Joker giggles, turning away and walking down the length of the bridge’s tower. Bruces closes his eyes with a heavy sigh. When he looks up, the Joker’s gone. Great, another problem. But what did he expect? This was Gotham, after all.
His comm beeps, a tinny sound that barely breaks through the noise of the city.
“Alfred?”
“Sir, have you found any traces of Mr. Cobblepot?”
“No. Dent is gone too...and Joker.” Bruce can just barely pick up on Alfred’s sigh.
“Oh dear. Do you know where they might be?”
Bruce was about to say, “Not yet” before pausing. Joker had told him about the docks. The question was, was that tip trustworthy? The clown had no proof of ever having been trustworthy, to Bruce’s knowledge, and when he was telling the truth, it came at a price. But there aren’t any other leads, both The Penguin and Dent aren’t known for being subtle, but he hasn’t heard a peep from either. “I...got a tip from Joker that I should check the dock.”
“And you’re sure you can trust this?” He knows the suspicious tone of voice Alfred has, it’s the same running through his mind.
“No. But it’s the only thing we have to go on at the moment, and I don’t want this to go on longer than it has to.”
There’s a silence between the two, both knowing what a bad idea it is. Then again, chasing after villains in a batsuit isn’t on the top of the list of good ideas for most people.
“I assume you won’t be back in time for dinner, Master Bruce,” Alfred says dryly.
“I’ll be back soon if I can, for all we know the docks are completely empty.” Something in the back of his mind says there must be something there, though he has no basis for his thoughts. Seeing as nothing’ll get done if he just stays in one place. He jumps into the open air, using his batclaw to traverse the city and approach the docks. With luck, he’ll find something.
*
The docks are eerie at night, the only noises being the sea breeze and waves crashing against the dock, containment units littering the place, piled up and towering over Bruce. The wind whistles through the units, adding a sort of creaking to the already tense atmosphere. Bruce walks along the units, relying on shadows to not give him away. So far there’s been no sign of anything odd going on, to Bruce’s relief and disappointment. There isn’t even a whisper of wrongdoing. Alfred has control over the cameras, he hasn’t seen much either.
“Psst!”
Bruce flinches, freezing in place and glancing around.
“Bats.” And there he is, in all his green and purple glory. The Joker waves Bruce over impatiently, waiting for Bruce to join him at his side. Bruce rolls his eyes but runs to him. “Fancy meeting you here,” Joker says, peering around one of the giant metal boxes around them.
“Why are you here?” And how did you show up before me?
“I wasn’t sure if you’d follow up on my tip, thought maybe I should infiltrate their base myself,” Joker says with a wide grin. Bruce realises had he not come, or had he come a little later, the docks might be full of laughing gas or blown up by now.
“I can do this myself,” Bruce tells the Joker sternly. “Maybe you should get back to Arkham.”
Despite the fact both need to be silent in order to sneak around, Joker laughs. “And miss out on all the fun? Not likely. Besides, I know exactly where they are.”
“And how would you know that?”
Joker raises an eyebrow. “I have my ways. Now are you gonna come with me or should I knock you out and leave you for the cops to find?” He strolls off, and Bruce knows that the clown knows he’ll follow.
“You’re sure Dent and Cobblepot will be here?”
“Pretty sure.” An answer Bruce expects but doesn’t appreciate. They walk through the maze of metal, Joker leading Bruce towards the far end of the dock. As they get closer to the end Joker grows more and more annoyed, a tense giggle here and there, some mumbling under his breath. Bruce isn’t entirely sure if he should’ve let Joker come with at all, he looks perfectly homicidal. He watches, and Joker notices, corner of his lips turned up in a grim smile.
“I never told you why I’m so interested in this, did I?”
Bruce shakes his head, wondering if the clown will elaborate. He speaks after a moment.
“I’m not interested. Not really. Isn’t that insane? Hmm, maybe too crazy for me.” Bruce does his best not to laugh at that, Joker continuing his ramble. “Well first they took over my base, which is a no-no in my book of rules. Then, Oz broke his promise. I wouldn’t mind so much if it hadn’t been the one thing keeping us on relatively good terms, but,” Joker waves his hand flippantly. “C’est la vie, I guess.” Bruce wonders what that broken promise is.
But he can’t help but be skeptical about this Joker wanting to help, so many times it’s been part of an elaborate trap. “What makes you so sure I trust you on this?”
Joker doesn’t talk, but his smile grows a little forced. He turns away, leaving Bruce to mull over his words without a hint. It unsettles him.
Rain starts to fall within minutes, a light drizzle that makes the night even darker. The Joker glances up at the sky, grumbling a bit. Bruce wonders if his makeup would run. He guesses not, since he’s never seen that happen and rain was a common occurrence in the city. Come to think of it, Joker might have been scarier with running mascara, if only due to the anger from his makeup being out of place. He smiles despite himself. Joker looks back at him, catching the smile.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing,” Bruce says simply, the corners of his mouth back in his usual expression. It clearly isn’t the answer Joker wants, but it’s the one the clown got. Joker frowns, the expression grotesque with his lipstick still in a smile at the ends. So his makeup was staying in place. Learn something new every day. It brings back Bruce’s smile.
“Okay, now you have to tell me.”
It’s a losing battle from the start, if Bruce holds it back, Joker could very well get angry, and an angry Joker is and unpredictable one. If he tells, he has a 50/50 chance of being gutted, as opposed to 100. It’s a no brainer.
“Is your makeup water resistant?”
Joker blinks. And blinks again, smile frozen in place. “This is what you’re on about?” He rolls his eyes. “Yes. It’d be awful if I had to reapply every five minutes. I can’t believe this is what makes you laugh,” he mumbles under his breath. Bruce waits as his companion shakes his head with a snort of disbelief. “Bats, if you survive this I’m going to teach you what’s really funny.” It’s a passing remark with an edge. Before Bruce can read into it too much, Joker pulls at his cape. “C’mon, we’re almost there.”
They turn and turn, going around bends and through opened units, into a section Bruce wouldn’t have found quickly without Joker’s help. It’s still empty, but there’s a thrum of machinery nearby.
“What is this place?”
“Well, originally it was one of my hang-outs. Me and Harley would come here to disappear for a bit. Now? Who knows, maybe Harv and Ozzy are trying to form an army. Not their style, I’ll admit, but whatever. And I thought they were my friends.” A silence falls, Bruce refusing to remark on the fact that most of Joker’s friends end up in a gutter. Joker shrugs, opening his mouth to speak when a crashing noise sounds across the area. Bruce pushes Joker into the shadows, the clown making an indignant sound at being pressed against the walls with no warning. Footsteps follow the loud noise, as well as an obnoxious voice that Bruce knows to be Oswald Cobblepot.
“Can’t you bastards do anything right?” He growls over the sounds. Bruce can just make out his silhouette inside a unit, waving his umbrella. “I told you to move this thing an hour ago!”
“What on earth are they doing with my couch?” Joker growls near Bruce’s ear. Bruce notices it’s a couch the men are carrying, a gaudy bright green monstrosity that hurts to look at. He also notices the men seem to be struggling with the object, surprising since both the henchmen look able to carry 500 pounds each.
His observations and questions are answered when the men drop the couch to the floor, cutting a slit in the cushions. One of the men pulls out a rocket launcher.
“I forgot that was in there,” Joker says, giggling quietly. The men pull out gun after gun, including revolvers, machine guns, and every sort in between. “Are they going to--yup, they are,” he says as the two men watch the henchmen unscrewing the couch’s decorations at the ends of the armrests, pulling out a collection of grenades. “Damn.”
As interesting as this is, Bruce has other things on his mind. “Where’s Dent?”
“Still inside is my guess. They must’ve turned my place upside down. Too bad, I have some nice trinkets in there. Ah well, I’ll get them back for it later. I don’t think we’ll be able to get in this way, but I have a secret entrance, it’s this way.” Joker scurries off without another sound. Bruce watches Penguin for another few moments before following yet again. He resigns to the fact that Joker will be leading the whole time. Joker has always been fast, maintaining a steady lead on Bruce and rarely taking the time to make sure he hasn’t lost him. It’s insane, Joker trusts that Bruce will follow him. And he’s right. Bruce puffs out a sigh.
*
The secret entrance turns out to be nothing more than a passage into the nearby sewers. Joker jumps willingly into the murky water. Bruce jumps a little after him, relieved his suit is waterproof. The smell is overpowering. As they trudge along wind whips around them, carrying noises with it. A brief shudder runs down Bruce’s spine as he remembers this used to be Killer Croc’s domain. He sincerely hopes Croc wasn’t one to jump at the chance to escape tonight. Humming cuts through the air, a slightly off-key waltz coming from Joker. It’s almost pretty, but doesn’t allow for quiet recon.
“Can you quiet down?” Bruce says. Joker’s hum cuts off.
“Don’t worry so much, no one’ll hear me. Besides, these tunnels make me antsy. I got stuck in them once, trying to get out. There are some things you just don’t want to see in these dank sewers, Batsy.” The humming starts up again, slightly quieter. Bruce doesn’t say anything else, tailing silently. Hardly any light can be seen, until he brings out a flashlight. Their shadows tower over them on the walls, adding to the creepy atmosphere.
“Master Bruce?” Alfred’s voice surprises hum, despite the fact no one else can hear he can’t help but watch for a reaction of recognition from Joker.
“I can’t talk much, I’m in the sewers with Joker,” he said into his comm with a low voice. He listens for Joker’s humming, which still carries. He hasn’t heard.
“I see. I wanted to say Arkham has sorted through some of the chaos. Only three have been reported missing so far, Mr. Dent, Mr. Cobblepot, and of course, the Joker. I’m looking at the footage now, and it seems Dent had some outside help. This must have been planned for a while.”
“I’m starting to see that. Can you find out if-”
“Ooh, you orderin’ a pizza?” Joker leans close to Bruce, talking into the comm. “I’ll  have pepperoni and sausage with tomato--” Bruce pushes him away, barely hearing Alfred’s bemused words before hanging up.
“Rude. And I was just warming up to you too.” Joker sticks his tongue out at Bruce. “Might want to work on your attitude if we’re to be working together, dear.” Bruce clenches his jaw.
“Are we almost there?”
“Yeah. We actually do need to be quiet now though, I dunno if anyone’s close to the entrance.” Joker whispers. He presses his hands to the wall, pressing down on one until it moves with a slight groan. Part of the wall slides, Joker helping it along before sliding through. “No one’s here, thank goodness!” Bruce hopes he’s telling the truth, but assumes he’d hear gunshots and shout if he was lying. He enters after the clown, sliding the wall back to a close. Time to investigate.

Gotham s5ep10 “I Am Bane” Personal Review
Tumblr media
“Future got you spooked” Warning spoilers below …
I´m not on board with this episode.  Well this week it´s HARVEY BULLOCK on the hope train, Jim voices some doubt and fears but Harvey lifts him up, then  pushes him into the GCPD spotlight and Jim delivers an insufferable speech. At least he ends it with a applause for everyone and their good work but what is this, other than annoying.  But oh well everything is about FUTURE this week. ~ The future of Gotham after the reunification with the mainland ~ Gotham citizens living in peace and safety ~ The future of the Child ~ Jim´s new role as a father, like next to being city saviour ~ Nygma and Oswald´s future outside of the city  ~ Bruce future home, that´s quite like the old but not the same ~ Alfred´s role on Bruce´s side in the future ~ The future that Nyssa / Bane want. Which kind of is the opposite of all above. Which also is partly Nyssas private revenge but also League of Shadows ““Humankind will be purged of weakness” stuff. Or whatever, I´m out.  On the side of personal revenge, Bane gets sent after Barbara Kean, because she lend Bruce a hand with Stabbing Ra´s al Guhul. Jim tires to appeal to Eduardo/Bane by telling him that she´s pregnant, but Bane doesn´t care “One soul's future weighed against the world's.”  (Oh, hi Spock! ) So here we have the motive of clashing futures tied into one life.   Besides future it´s also HUMANITY “Right, being strong does not mean you have to be a criminal.” “If the world is full of monsters, the only way to defeat them is to become one yourself.”  Eduardo/Bane says to survive he had to “stop being a human” and “had to become something else.” He became Bane, he just didn´t know it yet but Nyssa al Ghul/Theresa Walker knew it and showed him the way. To survive you have to do bad things. Then Lee tells Barbara, who says she has to be strong that being strong doesn´t mean being a criminal aka. doing bad things. There is also a BARBARA KEAN / BANE PARALLELL both had a run in with an AL GHUL´s ideas, the ideas of someone that saw who they “really” are and made them that, or tried to.  Also Lee, I´m not so sure about the “Jim will help you”. Jim had plenty moments to acknowledge the good stuff Barbara did but he just didn´t.  He just said she is awful and needs to change but he doesn´t really believe she can. That´s not helpful.  “Consent is hardly a prerequisite.”  Okay HUGO STRANGE is even a notch more unpleasant and scary this week. Horror. And actually, the tension between his atrocious actions and then have Jim to try to talk him into letting him go because that way he can do what he does best: survive aka paint him as human and actually  vulnerable is kind of well made. And his line about him actually believing Nyssa has better chances, is frightening and weighs heavy in this context.  Also there is a mouse looking down on Eduardo Dorrance / Bane. And this can´t possibly be sanitary. Doesn´t Hugo Strange have any standards? Ha, wait, I bet half of his experiments weren´t actually experiments but just wild life and pests walking into his “patients”.  So NYSSA AL GHUL is THERESA WALKER okay I had my mind rattling a while until it stopped at Ra´s, since Bruce “killed” him but, like Ra´s had all this going on where he wanted Bruce to kill him and pushed him to do it, so it can´t possibly be that right? Oh for fucks sake. Oh and she blames Bruce for everything aka. mostly the actions of others (again). Do they want to annoy me personally? Pet Peeve is an understatement at that point.  “THIS”  is, “about punishing Gotham. For the sins of Bruce Wayne.”  Well at least it´s not for the sins of Bruce Wayne´s long, long dead ancestors, like Theo Galavan wanted to. So yeah, understandable that Bruce got this idea that he´s bad for the city which he voiced last episode but there the hell is Selina when you need her? She´d call out that bullshit asap as well.   Oh no I like GENERAL WADE that´s not going to end well. “All due respect, Mr. Wayne, but I got to go with what my people tell me on this.” And he is right to do so, this is integrity. I mean I get their distrust with that story so far but they could at least have waited for the results until they side eye him that much. They should rather side eye him if hadn´t done that and just taken their word for it.  So turns out it didn´t end well. That they had him sitting there visibly through all the scene with Jim had me dream for a moment, what if he gets up and saves the day. I´d like that. But nope. They pumped Jim with strength juice so he could break his bonds and get the General out. Despite thorough neck and the back of his head checks, the general was chipped and gave the devastating Order 386. Great. So someone hook him to a battery and then give the General a chance to shine you cowards.   “Oh, nothing is just like it was.”  So ALFRED PENNYWORTH´s idea what the reunification future will bring is a new Wayne Manor. Just like the old one. Well as far as possible. His “last great service” but he´ll not retire he keep standing guard. Selina offers support, she´d like to blow up her past, if that helps him. Alfred says maybe she will, some day she might have built something new but the past will always be there. And he´s right but I don´t like that sentiment that SELINA KYLE resents her past like that I´d rather have her be proud of who she is, and was. (Also “some day” my ass, if this is not solely meant to be a commentary about how she feels but also refers to a “making up” for past “wrongdoings” that´s long been settled)  Later they drive right into Eduardo/Bane and despite Alfred´s repeated words Selina won´t stay in the car, they both try to fight Bane. Before that Selina says, it looks like Alfred is not done yet protecting Bruce. Well. Anyway them looking for the plans of the Manor was sweet. But I´m wondering if Bruce wants that “home?. I get that Alfred still feels guilty and would want to undo this.  But rebuilding the whole Manor and everything in it, maybe Bruce would know something better to invest that shitton of money into. I mean there´s a whole city to rebuild. Infrastructure and stuff. * OSWALD COBBLEPOT & EDWARD NYGMA have their submarine. How? Barbara wants to go on board (there is banter about the weight limits) but she got to go to a hospital. Oswald offers to drive her just to drive her away. “I knew she would never accept my help”,  So there´s worries about being crossed and double crossing and turns out Barbara took an important submarine part. They show up at the hospital trying to get it back. They basically are slapstick comedic duo in this one, and eh idk, yes but no. Ed get´s to McGyver a bomb because Os didn´t bring enough ammunition to deal with Bane. I guess it´s fun. * Edward told a riddle and Oswald tried to solve it, kind of. That was nice.  * So LESLIE THOMPKINS and EDWARD NYGMA ran into each other and they acknowledged their relationship with a line. A quite good line I´d say: “For the record, you stabbed me first” * I lied there´s a second line: “And you stuck around long enough to risk both of our lives to save Barbara's? Or was it to protect Lee?” “Do you want me to answer that or do you want sail away from here?” “Bon voyage.”  And I´m on board with that sentiment.  * Oswald Cobblepot has a tiny razor over his tie. Why? * Gotta get a look at Barbara´s handbag. * Does Bane sound a bit like Scarecrow? * “It doesn´t really work that way” Lee is right and her delivery (of the line) was on point * “I´m glad something about this is normal” Bab´s get´s a lol point too. * “ gives us the What's it called?” “Pressure regulator valve.” “Right. That.” * I don´t like that they killed off all the Sirens Ladies, like not that they did anything with them that was particularly good writing or anything like that but still, they could have and I don´t like it. * “They'd choose one of us and they buried us alive. They'd take bets on whether you could dig your way out. But then they'd bury you deeper. And play again. I was the champion.“ The guards only did do that, because if they had just buried them once, Jim might have had an option to say, ha buried alive, been there, done that.  ** There were so many GREAT SHOTS in this episode like OMG. I think my favourite frames are the ones where Eduardo is in the hospital and the nurses watch him form above and he looks up the staircase. This was gorgeous!!!!!!

Ellen Page accuses Brett Ratner of 'blatantly homophobic and abusive behavior' on the set of 'X-Men: The Last Stand'
Sonia Recchia/Getty
Ellen Page wrote in a Facebook post on Friday that director Brett Ratner verbally abused her on the set of "X-Men: The Last Stand."
She also called working on Woody Allen's "To Rome With Love" was "the biggest regret of my career."
Actress Ellen Page, in a scathing, extended Facebook post on Friday, says director Brett Ratner outed her on the set of "X Men: The Last Stand," and verbally abused her. She also says working for director Woody Allen (2012’s "To Rome With Love") is “the biggest regret of my career.”
Elsewhere in the post, she describes being harassed as a 16-year-old actress, and condemns anyone complicit in the protection of Bill Cosby, Roman Polanski and Harvey Weinstein.
Ratner was accused in an Los Angeles Times story earlier this month of sexual harassment or misconduct by six women. The Times reporter has since said that numerous other women have contacted him with similar claims. Ratner has denied the allegations.
After Page’s post, actress Anna Paquin tweeted that she witnessed Ratner’s comment. “I stand with you,” Paquin wrote.

Here is her entire post (but it’s worth checking it out on Facebook for the conversation in comments, which include director James Gunn writing a simple “Thank you, friend”):
“'You should f--k her to make her realize she’s gay.' He said this about me during a cast and crew 'meet and greet' before we began filming, X Men: The Last Stand. I was eighteen years old. He looked at a woman standing next to me, ten years my senior, pointed to me and said: 'You should f--k her to make her realize she’s gay.' He was the film’s director, Brett Ratner.
I was a young adult who had not yet come out to myself. I knew I was gay, but did not know, so to speak. I felt violated when this happened. I looked down at my feet, didn’t say a word and watched as no one else did either. This man, who had cast me in the film, started our months of filming at a work event with this horrific, unchallenged plea. He 'outed' me with no regard for my well-being, an act we all recognize as homophobic. I proceeded to watch him on set say degrading things to women. I remember a woman walking by the monitor as he made a comment about her 'flappy pussy.'
We are all entitled to come into an awareness of our sexual orientation privately and on our own terms. I was young and although already a working actor for so long I had in many ways been insulated, growing up on film sets instead of surrounded by my peers. This public, aggressive outing left me with long standing feelings of shame, one of the most destructive results of homophobia. Making someone feel ashamed of who they are is a cruel manipulation, designed to oppress and repress. I was robbed of more than autonomy over my ability to define myself. Ratner’s comment replayed in my mind many times over the years as I encountered homophobia and coped with feelings of reluctance and uncertainty about the industry and my future in it. The difference is that I can now assert myself and use my voice to to fight back against the insidious queer and transphobic attitude in Hollywood and beyond. Hopefully having the position I have, I can help people who may be struggling to be accepted and allowed to be who they are –to thrive. Vulnerable young people without my advantages are so often diminished and made to feel they have no options for living the life they were meant to joyously lead.
I got into an altercation with Brett at a certain point. He was pressuring me, in front of many people, to don a t-shirt with 'Team Ratner' on it. I said no and he insisted. I responded, 'I am not on your team.' Later in the day, producers of the film came to my trailer to say that I 'couldn’t talk like that to him.' I was being reprimanded, yet he was not being punished nor fired for the blatantly homophobic and abusive behavior we all witnessed. I was an actor that no one knew. I was eighteen and had no tools to know how to handle the situation.
I have been a professional actor since the age of ten. I’ve had the good fortune to work with many honorable and respectful collaborators both behind and in front of the camera. But the behavior I’m describing is ubiquitous. They (abusers), want you to feel small, to make you insecure, to make you feel like you are indebted to them, or that your actions are to blame for their unwelcome advances.
When I was sixteen a director took me to dinner (a professional obligation and a very common one). He fondled my leg under the table and said, 'You have to make the move, I can’t.' I did not make the move and I was fortunate to get away from that situation. It was a painful realization: my safety was not guaranteed at work. An adult authority figure for whom I worked intended to exploit me, physically. I was sexually assaulted by a grip months later. I was asked by a director to sleep with a man in his late twenties and to tell them about it. I did not. This is just what happened during my sixteenth year, a teenager in the entertainment industry.
Look at the history of what’s happened to minors who’ve described sexual abuse in Hollywood. Some of them are no longer with us, lost to substance abuse and suicide. Their victimizers? Still working. Protected even as I write this. You know who they are; they’ve been discussed behind closed doors as often as Weinstein was. If I, a person with significant privilege, remain reluctant and at such risk simply by saying a person’s name, what are the options for those who do not have what I have?
Let’s remember the epidemic of violence against women in our society disproportionately affects low income women, particularly women of color, trans and queer women and indigenous women, who are silenced by their economic circumstances and profound mistrust of a justice system that acquits the guilty in the face of overwhelming evidence and continues to oppress people of color. I have the means to hire security if I feel threatened. I have the wealth and insurance to receive mental health care. I have the privilege of having a platform that enables me to write this and have it published, while the most marginalized do not have access to such resources. The reality is, women of color, trans and queer and indigenous women have been leading this fight for decades (forever actually). Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Winona LaDuke, Miss Major, Audre Lorde, bell hooks, to name a few. Misty Upham fought tirelessly to end violence against indigenous women, domestic workers and undocumented women. Misty was found dead at the bottom of a cliff three years ago. Her father, Charles Upham, just made a Facebook post saying she was raped at a party by a Miramax executive. The most marginalized have been left behind. As a cis, white lesbian, I have benefited and have the privileges I have, because of these extraordinary and courageous individuals who have led the way and risked their lives while doing so. White supremacy continues to silence people of color, while I have the rights I have because of these leaders. They are who we should be listening to and learning from.
These abusers make us feel powerless and overwhelmed by their empire. Let’s not forget the sitting Supreme Court justice and President of the United States. One accused of sexual harassment by Anita Hill, whose testimony was discredited. The other proudly describing his own pattern of assault to an entertainment reporter. How many men in the media – titans of industry – need to be exposed for us to understand the gravity of the situation and to demand the fundamental safety and respect that is our right?
Bill Cosby was known to be predatory. The crimes were his, but many were complicit. Many more chose to look the other way. Harvey was known to be predatory. The crimes were his, but many were complicit. Many more chose to look the other way. We continue to celebrate filmmaker Roman Polanski, who was convicted of drugging and anally raping a young girl and who fled sentencing. A fugitive from justice. I’ve heard the industry decry Weinstein’s behavior and vow to affect meaningful change. But let’s be truthful: the list is long and still protected by the status quo. We have work to do. We cannot look the other way.
I did a Woody Allen movie and it is the biggest regret of my career. I am ashamed I did this. I had yet to find my voice and was not who I am now and felt pressured, because “of course you have to say yes to this Woody Allen film.” Ultimately, however, it is my choice what films I decide to do and I made the wrong choice. I made an awful mistake.
I want to see these men have to face what they have done. I want them to not have power anymore. I want them to sit and think about who they are without their lawyers, their millions, their fancy cars, houses upon houses, their 'playboy' status and swagger.
What I want the most, is for this to result in healing for the victims. For Hollywood to wake up and start taking some responsibility for how we all have played a role in this. I want us to reflect on this endemic issue and how this power dynamic of abuse leads to an enormous amount of suffering. Violence against women is an epidemic in this country and around the world. How is this cascade of immorality and injustice shaping our society? One of the greatest risks to a pregnant woman’s health in the United States is murder. Trans women of color in this country have a life expectancy of thirty-five. Why are we not addressing this as a society? We must remember the consequences of such actions. Mental health issues, suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, to name a few.
What are we afraid to say and why can’t we say it? Women, particularly the most marginalized, are silenced, while powerful abusers can scream as loudly as they want, lie as much as they want and continue to profit through it all.
This is a long awaited reckoning. It must be. It’s sad that 'codes of conduct' have to be enforced to ensure we experience fundamental human decency and respect. Inclusion and representation are the answer. We’ve learned that the status quo perpetuates unfair, victimizing behavior to protect and perpetuate itself. Don’t allow this behavior to be normalized. Don’t compare wrongs or criminal acts by their degrees of severity. Don’t allow yourselves to be numb to the voices of victims coming forward. Don’t stop demanding our civil rights. I am grateful to anyone and everyone who speaks out against abuse and trauma they have suffered. You are breaking the silence. You are revolution."

CRISIS IN CORPUS CHRISTI
ONGOING CRISIS IN CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS- CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT- CHIEF MIKE MARKLE
 Isaiah 48:16
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
Psalm 72:4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

 Experiences-
https://youtu.be/VOMBGtkdQhE
https://ccoutreach87.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=3007&action=edit
I just talked about some recent experiences with friends- and how they both knew ‘by the Spirit’ certain things-
Yet- the things they learned- were actually verses from the bible- though they did not know it was ‘in the bible’-
Then how did they learn them?
By communion with God- by being in the kingdom- by being born of God- and having fellowship in the Spirit.
Being This post is a roll-out, I won’t do a whole teaching thing right here- but I did add some verses below-
John
https://ccoutreach87.com/christian-recovery-from-addiction-long-version/
FINAL NOTE- Right before I upload this- just a few notes-
I actually spent the afternoon with some of my friends- yes- on the street.
I met a new brother- I wont share his story yet- but it is one of the most interesting I have heard in a long time. Hopefully you will see him tell it on his own some day.
Ok- why so tough?
There are many- much more serious cases I have talked about over the years- things that are indeed at the crisis level.
One short one- in all the death penalty cases in the U.S.- there is one that the anti death penalty people use- and yes- it’s from Corpus Christi-
Carlos Deluna was executed by the sate of Texas- he was convicted of murder- and the case went to court here in Corpus.
Carlos claimed innocence- and said the other man he was with that night- stabbed the woman.
Hmm?
The other man’s name was Carlos Hernandez.
In court- when Deluna told this story- the CCPD said there was no such person as Hernandez- Yet- Deluna and others said the CCPD were lying.
They executed Deluna- who claimed innocence till the day of his death.
Did CCPD lie?
Yes- there was a Carlos Hernadez- he was more than likely working with the CCPD as an informant-
And yes- friends of both men said Hernandez bragged of getting away with the murder.
Now- whether or not Hernandez did it- I don’t know.
But CCPD openly lied in court- on a death case- and said Hernandez was a quote ‘phantom of Deluna’s imagination’.
Where are the cops who lied today?
They have either retired- with fat pay checks- or still in the upper ranks of CCPD.
They seem to take all of this as a joke-
I could go on- but why?
VERSES- [news links below] These are some of the verses I quoted on video today-
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2nd Cor. 5
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Proverbs 16:3
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
1 John 3:18
My little children, let us not love in word, neither intongue; but in deed and in truth.

Inside Hurricane Harvey relief: 5 aid workers swap stories
http://ift.tt/2eIss7b
Roofs of homes dotting the water’s surface like glaciers in the arctic, families being rescued from second-story apartments, harrowing stories of families being separated and losing everything, including family members — watching the devastation in Houston on the news last week was heartbreaking.
And we were only seeing glimpses of the destruction that is a reality for Houstonians.
Amidst the Hurricane Harvey chaos, I was hearing many stories, second-hand, of volunteers from our real estate community doing amazing work and helping in dire situations.
I reached out to the Inman Coast to Coast Facebook page and asked for names of agents who were helping. I received hundreds names.
Below you’ll find five interviews with professionals in our real estate community who are aiding the Hurricane Harvey efforts in a variety of ways.
Interviews with Ryan Bokros on boat rescues, Enid Cleland working with the Red Cross in the city’s largest shelter, Caroline Pinal and GiveBack Homes organizing fundraiser relief, Joseph Diosana assisting in the warehouses of incoming donations and Mark Maniha helping people gather their belongings.
Tears were shed in practically every one of these interviews; no one would don the title of hero willingly, but I believe you’ll agree that the work they are doing is nothing but heroic.
Ryan Bokros
Ryan Bokros
Ryan Bokros, managing partner with JLA Realty with eight offices across the Houston area, is a first responder who has been busy rescuing stranded citizens by the boatload, but not just in Houston — in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Orange and Orton as well.
His group of about 600 with 200 boats has been using a church in the Woodlands as one of about four or five command centers. But Bokros says they’re “just a bunch of regular dudes.”
Are there any road vehicles available to used, or is it pretty much still boats?
We’ve seen large jacked-up trucks that are able to be used in certain areas, but we’re more of a command center for one of those desperate situations that will require a lot of rescue.
We had a crew yesterday that left our staging area probably at about 9:30 in the morning, and they didn’t get back until about 11:30 last night.
They went to Port Arthur, and then as they were coming back home to Houston, they had another call for an apartment complex downtown and a crew of two or three boats with two to three men per boat rescued about 80 people.
Volunteers preparing for evacuations.
Is there one image or one situation you’ve seen that stands out to you?
There are two of them. I carried a pregnant woman about 300 yards yesterday. She had a medical condition, high blood pressure, and just the look in her eyes, it really struck me.
And then I also carried a five or six-year-old little girl to safety. She just wrapped her arms around my neck as tight as she could. I had her and her little puppy in my arms. Those are the things — just the looks in people’s eyes.
How can the Inman community help out?
Just because of what my mission has been, it’s really hard for me to even answer that question. My focus has been here on this with the boats and rescues and all.
My wife Maggie created an Amazon wishlist, which I know a lot of people have purchased things from because she has been in direct contact with the local shelters and the community of people that are running the shelters.
And money for gas to keep all of these boats running. People have been sending me PalPal payments to use to buy gas cards and distribute to the boat drivers.
Bokros’s PayPal.
Maggie’s Amazon wishlist.
Enid Cleland
Enid Cleland
Enid Cleland is the CEO at The RE Luxury Team/ReMax Collection Luxe Portfolio in Houston.
Cleland has spent every day since the flooding started volunteering in the George Brown Center, Houston’s largest shelter, holding over 9,000 evacuees.
She was reluctant to be interviewed because she didn’t want to be dubbed a hero.
What’s the largest shelter in Texas like?
A lot of the people displaced have been transported there. That is true. It’s really sad. I’m just very emotional about this. I needed to do something. It’s very traumatic … outside the George Brown Center, the line of volunteers was almost wrapped around the building.
It was incredible. So, to be a volunteer these people have to go there and stand in line. And so many did.
There are several stations where we could register with the Red Cross or different departments of the Houston government that are working there.
And then there’s FEMA. There is legal. There is medical. There is mental health. It’s all very organized.
What it’s like for the new residents of the center?
Once the evacuees get registered they are sent to one of the many halls. It’s gigantic here. So they divided the halls, like A, B, C, D, E. There is a hall for families. A hall for single women, a hall for people with pets so people did not have to leave their dogs behind.
Then there’s another area for single women, and there’s another area for families. It is very organized.
They’re all in one area also at the beginning, and what they do is that they evaluate people to see if they’re OK. You know, if they need anything and then to check on their mental health as well.
Is there anything you have seen that stands out to you?
I met a lady that I had to help right away. She was rescued by a helicopter [and] was separated from her kids … she was there, and the kids were somewhere else.
Two days later, they were reunited.
We had another lady come in, and she was so traumatized that she was on suicide watch. So we [had] to move her to the hospital.
How are you doing as a Houston resident through all of this yourself?
So I have been here for days, but I will probably have to check on my building this afternoon. I just opened a huge new office. I don’t know what’s going on there.
It’s a luxury building on the first floor though so who knows. But that is nothing compared to what all of these people are living through.
You have set up a Red Cross site, correct?
Yes. I’ve been so impressed by the Red Cross. I’ve set up a website for donations. The Red Cross is organized. It is a big, big part on the effort here.
Donations can be made to the Cleland’s Red Cross website.
Diaper donations at the George Brown Center, Houston’s largest shelter, holding over 9,000 evacuees.
Caroline Pinal
Caroline Pinal
GiveBack Homes is based in California and has been in fundraising mode since the flooding in Houston started.
Caroline Pinal, a co-founder of GiveBack Homes is organizing relief efforts through fundraising.
What has Give Back Homes been able to do from California?
Well, the quickest thing we could do was set up a fundraising page.
When I first heard about everything that was going on in Houston, I immediately started reaching out to our members, our Houston GiveBack Homes members, to see if they were safe and to ask them what can we do immediately. And they were sending me texts and photos and videos.
Pretty unimaginable what they were going through — and continue to go through. So, we put up a fundraising page right away, and we got it out to all of our members across the country … people all across the country are watching it on TV, but don’t necessarily know how to help and make a direct impact.
What kind of support have you received?
We’ve had real estate companies stepping forward and donating, and companies like Referral Exchange and Adwerx have donated.
I woke up this morning to an email from Seth Price at Placester, saying he wanted to match every donation up to $10,000, which is pretty incredible.
And then that was followed up by a text from Concierge Auctions saying they want to jump on a call and figure out how they can get involved.
So, it’s really just been about organizing efforts, and giving people someone to contact and say, “What can we do,” and brainstorming with them on that.
How can the average person help out?
Well, we have worked with Habitat for Humanity in Houston for years.
All the homes that we helped build last year are now flooded. So, we’re going to be working with Habitat to see where we can send volunteers [and] how we can help coordinate efforts there because it will be at first cleaning up and then rebuilding.
Once the water recedes it just kind of reveals more disaster and more devastation that it was hiding these past few days. So, we do plan on continuing to fundraise and to also mobilize volunteers and clean-up efforts as well.
How about three months from now? How would a reader get involved in that process?
Anyone can email me directly at [email protected], and I’d be happy to help either direct them in the right place depending on what they’re looking to do or get them involved with Give Back Homes.
We’re letting first responders, they’re there on the ground, [do] what they need to do right now. Our focus right now is fundraising, and then … figuring out what the greatest needs are and how we can best leverage what we’re good at.
How can readers assist you in your fundraising efforts?
The Inman reader could donate towards our fundraising efforts. They could share our fundraising page. They could encourage others and inspire others to donate as well.
You know, social media is great. So, every single person that posts — it helps. I think that’s the easiest way to help.
I want to remind people, people who aren’t familiar with Give Back Homes, it’s really important for us to check every donated dollar to a specific family and see exactly where the dollars are going.
Donate to the relief effort in Houston through GiveBack Homes.
Joseph Diosana
Joseph Diosana
Joseph Diosana is an agent with Keller Williams Memorial in Houston, and since the hurricane, he has helped out by doing a little bit of everything because simply donating didn’t seem like it was enough.
Tell me about what you’ve been doing in the Houston area.
When the flooding first started I was like, “Gosh, I’ve got to do something.” So it was more of a grassroots effort where I went to buy some stuff and take it down to the George Brown Center.
That was my initial start.
But it felt like, I wasn’t really helping at that moment. I was helping, but it didn’t really feel like I was helping. And it didn’t feel real.
It’s sort of like you watching on TV. You see all this struggle, but you don’t really. I was just so disconnected from it.
Then one of the teams, who had a relationship with a guy who had a warehouse, got us this space. They said, “Look, we just got this warehouse, and we’re not actually ready to start our business, so you guys can use it.”
I have no idea how big this thing is, but it’s large. Two 18-wheel trucks came in, and we were able to unload it, and we have tons of space.
Tomorrow, we have about 600 [Keller Williams] agents, and KW Cares Fund, that are coming in, and they’re going to work shifts all through the weekend and all through the next couple weeks, which will be the big challenge, right after the initial shock.
People have to go back to work, are we going to have enough crews to go out and do the [follow-up] on work that needs to happen?
What else concerns you?
It’s going to be really hard for real estate agents once this part of the crisis is over. All the closings that they were counting on, they’ve all fell out of contract pretty much. They’re flooded. They will need to be repaired, reinspected and resold.
How long is all that going to take? So their income now has completely gone away. Then, there is the personal side for all the agents.
Last night, one of the agents in my office starts texting me asking about the process for relief. Her texts to me were kind of weird, I didn’t know what she was getting at.
She ended up saying, “Joe, I need to be with my daughter because she has two kids, a three-month-old and a three-year-old, and they were rescued and staying at a hotel.”
Their family is devastated. You know what I mean? It’s really challenging.
Is there anything from the past 24 hours that stands out?
I was on this conference call yesterday with the planning committee to organize the relief effort. They were doing all kinds of operational stuff, and at the end of the call, we wrap up with, “Are there any needs right now?”
At that point, we started sharing three or four immediate needs that really got me. I got off the phone, and I started sobbing because when I think about it, it’s tough.
One girl had cancer, had her surgery on Friday before they evacuated before the storm. Her house gets flooded, and how is she going to rest and recover?
In your opinion, what’s the biggest need?
That’s easy, money.
At this point it is not going to be supplies, I don’t think, but it’s going to be money.
We’ll need money to buy the sheet rock. We’ll need money to buy the carpeting.
Just think about it: you know if you have to make a mortgage payment, that’s a thousand dollars, a few thousand dollars. That’s a lot of money on a house that’s busted. And it will be busted.
Then it’s going to be volunteers who can come in. Not now, but months from now. We have volunteers here that also went out to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and went out to Katrina that were working six months after the fact.
They are here today, and they say, “Yeah this process takes a long time.” It takes a long time to rebuild people’s lives.
Donate for the Houston relief effort through Keller Williams.
A Houston home destroyed by the flood.
Mark Maniha
Mark Maniha
Mark Maniha, of Mark Maniha Real Estate Expert, and his wife have been organizing and providing help in the field both rescuing and taking people back to their homes to gather what belongings they could. He believes that the key to helping victims is to think long term.
You’ve been tough to track down. What have your days been like?
I’ve been all over the place. We’ve been helping a lot [of] folks. You know, we were at the Addicks Reservoir area yesterday.
Most of the folks have gotten evacuated. Now, it’s family and friends and just regular individuals helping to take folks back out … to get in and get their stuff back out.
So we are just helping these folks get in because they’re realizing that they’re not going to be able to go back for several weeks.
Everybody is pretty safe, but now its just trying to figure out how to move on from here.
From your perspective, what do you think the biggest need is going to be?
Honestly, I think maybe cleaning supplies. I mean that’s probably one of the biggest things. We had some folks who were coming in from Austin yesterday, and we had them stop at Walmart and buy hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of Clorox, spray bottles and wipes, and they’re just going to need cleaning supplies.
And school supplies.
My wife was a teacher for a long time, and she’s putting together school supplies. A lot of kiddos, it’s heartbreaking because school was supposed to start this last week.
Families literally just finished getting school supplies, and for a lot of families, those school supplies are a sacrifice. It’s money that they don’t really have to give up, but they do it because they love their kiddos and want the best for them — and then they all got flooded out.
So [my wife is] working with getting school supplies, and we’re getting cleaning supplies and clothing.
What do you think the future looks like for the area after everything starts to dry out?
Well, a lot of kids are being relocated to different schools. So that’s going to be different from the norm.
And the rental market will probably go nuts, it already has. I mean, we’re getting 10-15 phone calls on every rental property that we have.
I think you’ll see investors going crazy for a while.
But people are resilient, and the area as well as market will bounce back. It just may some months.
Is there a moment from all of this that sticks out in your mind?
I’m a native Houstonian. Seeing it on the news, and then seeing it live in person is completely different.
It really sets in when you’re here, and you’re seeing water go into the second story windows of people’s houses and watching Suburbans float by.
But I’m extremely proud of Houston, extremely proud. And I think that people across the country can see us come together, and hopefully, it’ll do the country and the entire world good to be able to see that … we can really help each other.
What else would you like to tell readers?
This is going to be a long-term deal … but we’re going to be slugging through this now for the next three to six months. There’s a lot of families that didn’t have money to take care of their kiddos that are going to need help.
So, I would say not to disappear, not to forget, and if you can’t really help here locally, just sending $10 – $20 to be able to buy Clorox and disinfectants and stuff like that is a lifesaver.
Ryan Bokros’s kids helped out by walking the dogs of neighborhood volunteers who didn’t have as much time for their pets.
Last thoughts
Since the storm hit, we’ve read about members of the real estate community all helping in the relief efforts of Hurricane Harvey in the general Houston area.
The perspectives these agents have brought to us through their interviews have been tear-jerking accounts of not only tragedy and loss but also fortitude and strength.
These five will be the first to tell you they are doing nothing special; they are simply five people in a sea of thousands of volunteers who have come together to support their city and fellow human beings in this time of need.
These are just a few examples of the work being done by many thousands in our real estate community. For all of those who remain not mentioned and unnamed, the rest of us thank you as well for all you have done and continue to do.

The dress I have on in these photos is a size 16, and I could barely breathe.  Lingerie brand launches body positive sizing to empower women “Not only was this annoying because I wanted to buy this dress, but so many women take what size dress they buy to heart. If I was one of these girls (thankfully I’m not) requesting a size 18 dress would seriously devastate me! “When I asked if this dress came in a 18 the store assistant said ‘Ahh yeah you have to go up a couple of sizes with these’. A couple?!? Going up three to four sizes surely should make you realise that you need to seriously sort out sizing!!!” And her post has certainly struck a chord with many other disgruntled H&M shoppers: “I’m not joking when I say that a size 12 dress I bought from H&M fits my 5 year old Daughter!!! Doesn’t fit me of course…” commented one woman. “I’m a size 10 and have to buy 16/18s in H&M!” said another. “I’m ‘too fat’ for this shop because of the sizing… It’s ridiculous and a big problem for influential young girls… It could have awful effects to some girls’ confidence,” pointed out one person. “I cannot buy H&M trousers for this very reason! When a 6/8 in topshop, I’d be lucky to get into a H&M 12!

I think we left shortly after,” adds the 41-year-old from Glasgow. Her mother had no choice but to flee her abuser, but due to the unfit social care system they were plunged into poverty.  Male victims of domestic violence are being failed by the system “We moved to a refuge with virtually nothing. No toys and no clothes. I always remember my mum telling me not to get dirty, as she couldn’t wash my clothes. We had a room and the lock didn’t work. I think my mum had to place furniture in front of the door to keep us safe or at least I remember her moving furniture about a lot.” A shared bathroom with broken lock which she had to guard while her mum quickly had a bath is another of Harvey’s childhood memories. And having to eat her dinner in their small room because there weren’t any cooking facilities. And how unclean their new home was.  “I don’t remember meeting any other kids and it was noisy and scary, especially at night. My mum has seven siblings and growing up I did wonder why we didn’t stay with them or her mum, but I suppose we had to be somewhere where he couldn’t get her, and that would have been the safest place to be.” Harvey isn’t certain how long she lived in the refuge. Eventually, she moved in with her grandmother until her mother married another man, and forged a safe, happy relationship.  Gaslighting and how can it change a victim’s perception of reality “I’m sure I did understand the situation I was in otherwise I’d have forgotten about it by now, as it’s not something that was openly discussed throughout my childhood,” she adds.

Gotham s5ep2 “Trespassers” Personal Review
Tumblr media
“Maybe there's still good people left in Gotham.”   “Some say the darker angels of our nature are unlocked and set free.”  Warning spoilers below
JIM GORDON  Mainland wants the GCPD to do nothing in the case of the children. “Your dedication to your job is admirable, Captain, but you lack perspective.” Jim Gordon says he needs supplies not opinions but Mainland says, nope. They won´t risk pilots (theirs or Wayne Enterprise´s). “So you can save a few lives for thousands, but I can't?”  Touché. Jim got a point there.  HARVEY BULLOCK * Shows some (un)healthy pessimism.  “IF we get back.” / “Check out the basement in a creepy hotel by myself? Sure. What could go wrong, right?” * Still has the best lines: “Why would anyone be a cop in a world like this?” “Well, the Halloween shop was all out of gas masks, so it was either this or sexy nurse.”  * “Oh, my God. Oh. Not good. Oh, God. This This is not good.” And after having swiped through the teeth he still picks up the severed finger that is obviously a severed finger. Honey, what are you doing? The LOGERQUIST HOTEL Scene was awesome. Some reminiscence to earlier season, a side quest that gives you break from the greater mess. More please. > It´s just awesome that they just pulled the leaver and let them slide into a campy/classy horror. You just have to scream at the screen. Don´t leave the kids alone! Don´t split up! Don´t trust the other kid! How about you go for the lamps and try to destroy them instead of banging the door! (Harvey Bullock smashing the windows was a clever moment though, gotta give him that)  Just the whole atmosphere of that set alone. Love!  > This showed actual detective work and brought the plot and chara points of the macrocosm into  this microcosm  !!!!!!! It´s not only Harvey Bullock being weary of being sent into the basement (what could go wrong) that ties back to him not being keen to be shot standing next to Jim because Jim got the bounty on his head. It´s going right for the lingering pessimism that Harvey has been expressing (If we get back..) and him lecturing Jim that Jim´s methods (not killing Penguin) aren´t the right way for the mess they are in.  They have Harvey Bullock being so perceptive to point out the lit candle right away. “Jim, we're not alone. Someone lit that candle. “ To which JIM GORDON reacts with HOPE!    “In the old west, settlers used to leave a candle burning to lead others to safety. Maybe there's still good people left in Gotham.”  He´s not only playing the same record that he played the whole last episode (and I´m not shading him there, his attitude is great in that situation, otherwise what would there be left but despair for him and everyone else) but he´s also referencing HISTORY .. and I vaguely remember that this is not the first time he did that [[DOES AYONE have a better memory than I do? PLS tell me]] which brings back memories of early Jim Gordon that solves cases and Ed´s riddles. They at the same time concede hope a victory, they get to save the two kids and Gabriel but Jim Gordon has to leave the other boy behind: “Not everyone wants your help, Jim Gordon.”  IVY PEPPER   “The plants came to my protection. “ Ivy, how about you asked them to stop. “But this park ever since we were cut off from the rest of the world, it's been behaving differently. There are things growing here I have never seen before.” Okay fucks sake, I so hope that this is not true. First we get Ivy magically aged then we get Ivy stealing some potion aka none of her love for plants and research and experiments that I wanted to see and now she should be afraid of them even? How about no?! Okay, I´m glad they didn´t go there. “You know, I wasn't lying when I said this park is changing.I'm feeding the earth with these wretched creatures. It consumes them, and then it flourishes.”  >> Okay I can´t say that I like the “Ivy is a maniacal, cold-blooded killer.” but the mere suggestion of Ivy being intimidated and patronized by her plants scared me enough to be happyish about it. I´d still like to see her be just with her plants. Bring back her mushroom farm! Scratch all that murder business she had going on with Gotham and its people. Give her some space and place to care about her plants and learn more about them and okay if someone disturbs them or tries to harm them, and then bring out the murder. Maybe it might go into a direction like that now..... ?  Ivy more and more retreating into the branches of that tree, while talking to Bruce got me intrigued. “Where I'm going is none of your business. Best hurry. That root will die if left out in the open for too long.” Her being so mysterious, and ambiguous about if she can be trusted suits her. Much, much more than a snarly direct threat of murder.  She is her own entity, that does as she pleases and everything else if left to wonder what that might be! That would be a good attitude. QUESTION:  “One thing is for sure though the seed will alter her forever.” “How?” “Some say the darker angels of our nature are unlocked and set free.” So this “some say” does not sound like a general statement about the nature of humanity it does sound like some people talk about the effects of this particular plant on humans. Which begs the question: Who says this? The plants? Do they whisper to her? Is it meant indirectly as in the research she did told her that? Or are there actually other people with knowledge over matters like this? Are there records, writings, research with footnotes? Did Ivy read them? Did she do her own experiments. Who or what is this referring to. I need answers!!
Also: Ivy is so ridiculously overpowered in this show, how the hell did those guys manage to lock her up? Also2: Is the guys story about them coming for their magic and getting killed true? Ivy at first  helping people? After all the nurse knew about her and thought she would help? Was she kind and people got greedy, demanded too much, wanted to take advantage of her? Then again she was not known as the helpful fairy but as witch, so there might have been something that got her that reputation .. but there also had to be something that got her a reputation as healer instead of solely being a murderous killer witch?  EDWARD NYGMA * How could he believe locking himself up would work if he just had the key in his pocket? This should have been some timed release system that didn´t give him access to the key until after a couple of hours. * Uhm, can TANK from the Street Demonz gang please stick around. I like him. I like those two together. That´s fun. “Did I, uh hit you, et cetera? Any idea why?” * Okay so sleepwalking or for him rather wakewalking Ed has orchestrated the demise of the Street Demonz in order to get some more chaos and war and likely Oswald´s head? Great. * “How did I seem? Was I confident, flamboyant, charisma for days? Or a little more conservative, kind of repressed, a little nerdy?” “You seemed stiff, man of few words. In a daze, actually.” “Interesting.” * “Well, whoever did just started one hell of a war.” Tank can you please stick around, I need a rough biker that gets to the heart of things like that on Eds side.   PREDICTION? Oswald put a bounty on Jim Gordan´s head. The criminals want to kill him. “Edward” likely put an indirect bounty on Oswald Cobblepot´s head, ciminals will want to kill them. However it seems Barbara Kean makes this situation less equal with protecting Jim Gordon from criminals and tightening the thumb screws on him in order to get Jim to kill Oswald. It just seems everyone´s best bet is to go get rid of Oswald right now. And I´m gonna be disappointed if Oswald doesn´t change back to his clever self and manipulate the situation in a way that ties his and Jim´s life back together  … SET DESIGN Yes this is a character on its own and it´s marvelous. * The Wallpaper in Edward Nygma´s bathroom is pretty. * Is that a can of beer on the window still next to Tank in the bathtub?? * Damn every place Ivy stays at is just eerie, beautiful and just stunning. * The halls of Logerquist Hotel are awesome and the perfect atmosphere. FunFact: John Logerquist founded Gotham in 1635
* Someone had a field trip with the LIGHTNING [Edit: Link]  in this. First the bright lights in the conversation with Barbara Kean and Jim Gordon in the Sirens club, then the Lightning used as weapon  at the hotel. This all should be super obnoxious, like glaring out a charas whole face during a dialogue .. what .. but it all just works, and works really well. Damn.  Honorary mention: The light bulb and welding sparks 11:40 * Those safe houses that Lucius Fox set up looked like a dream again. Just like Lee with that train, or Jim visiting the retired Carmine. I just wait for someone to wake up, shatter the bubble, destroy the niceness. It slightly creeps me out every time they do that.   * “What do I do, just swallow it?” Okay Bruce Wayne should have told SELINA KYLE everything that Ivy said about that thing. This is not an informed medical decision: Me not moving vs. probably not me but moving is a relevant thing to know. Not that I think it would change anything for Selina, but they should have laid open all the information and it bugs me. It might kill you is just half of the story. It might change who you are even if it works is a significant thing to know about. * GABRIEL I literarily can´t believe he is still alive. That´s the kind of character that usually has the shortest shelf life. * Also how beautifully phrased was Bruce Wayne´s initial distrust towards Ivy is. “You'll forgive me if I find it hard to do so.” * “God, what have I done” Acting on point, acting over all point, acting is said point .. * “I'll tell you what! I'll take his head, and you can have the rest of him!” I giggled. (Context: He doesn´t need more than Jim´s head to collect the bounty from Penguin)

Gotham s4ep1 “Pax Penguina” Personal Review
Tumblr media
“Outlaws have a code.“
Warning spoilers below
/// Gotham has two new things “crime license” and  because of that after the ruby red TetchVirus a return of the muddy green “Fear Serum” ///
“You know you can't commit a crime in Gotham now without a license from Penguin, right?” RA'S AL GHUL ominously lurks while BRUCE WAYNE safes some people from getting robbed, they have a license. This license is ridiculous. /// I know, I know that´s basically how mobs work, but still. But at least he´s got “organ donor” checked, which is great, but I´m afraid the way things are his organs will be sold to the highest bidder?  The umbrella stamp though.  /// Omg VICTOR ZSASZ at the wedding.  I love him. I love him so much.  He´s charming, he´s a great shot , he´s still very much evil.  He spreads the word about the new license system, scares MERTON'S gang away, accepts the thanks from the bride but also introduces the new robbers with licenses. Also you all just leave the poor groom alone, there is more important stuff than expensive rings.
“But now you want to, uh, literally, unionize crime.” So we get to know since the Tetch Virus Chaos OSWALD COBBLEPOT got violent crime to drop down to 57%. He wants more and has a little chat with the new MAYOR and police COMMISSIONER. Oswald hints having hunted down aka killed the criminals. “But this is Gotham City; there will always be crime. What I am offering is crime in the hands of professionals. And held to agreed-upon terms.” “From which you'll profit.” “God bless America.” The press does not concern Oswald but the GCPD has to be in with it, everyone with a license goes free.
“I'm a cop. I see a crime, I stop it.” JIM GORDON certainly isn´t in with the program. He arrests a robber with license. The GCDP looks at him unamused, like by now Jim should be used to that but he seems to get the notion that his actions are not approved. HARVEY BULLOCK gets lectured about the Penguin & Mayor & Commissioner deal.  He already is on board.  “Cobblepot worries about Detective Gordon. He has a history.” /// Look buddy, honey, pal, Harvey .. Oswald knows Jim better than you do. Also I can´t believe that Harvey and Jim didn´t already have talks and fights over this. Harvey just agreed to it?! Also how does everyone know about that just Jim doesn’t, is that the kind of thing that spreads through friendly gossip and talk with your coworkers?!  /// Harvey & Jim have a late and short talk about the Situation: “And before you get on your high horse, three months ago, this city was in a tailspin. We survived because Penguin took control of the underworld.” “I am not giving the city over to Penguin.” .. “Jim, we will bust Penguin one day, I promise you. But this city has to get back on her feet. Please?” “Harvey, I get that. But every day the citizens of Gotham look to Penguin and not the GCPD to keep them safe, the harder it's gonna be to win them back.”
“You have to trust me.” BRUCE WAYNE´s reaction to the licenses is not good either. “There must be some way we can turn this against him.” Yet ALFRED PENNYWORTH reminds him that their mission is to prepare for RA'S AL GHUL  “Oh, just-just stop. Stop right there. How does this fit in to what we're doing? What was the initial reason that you popped on that mask and you went out there?”   Bruce feels responsible for the Virus situation despite not pressing the button. Alfred warns him that´s “mission creep” “You're trying to achieve not one but two objectives.” He needs a priority! But Bruce claims he can both prepare and make a difference for Gotham. Just trust me!
“We just want to give someone a little scare.” GRADY takes MERTON to Arkham. He used to be an orderly there and got to know JONATHAN CRANE. They want the “scare juice”. Warden Reed hands him over for some money and tells him that he is haunted by some boogeyman figure, which he finds useful to control him.   They bring Jonathan back to his old place, he really shouldn´t be there after what´s happened he says. /// Indeed  ///  He states that he wasn´t present with all his father´s experiments. /// Yet it seems five minutes later he got everything figured out .. yay “science” ///   They rob a bank with the Fear Serum. JIM GORDON & HARVEY BULLOCK have an odd conversation about if the police should investigate the crime, but hey they don´t have a licence. “And you're gonna find them before Zsasz just to prove that GCPD still matters? That's not thumbing your nose at Penguin?” Jim recognizes the symptoms and they start the investigation at Arkham. Warden Reed claims Jonathan is fragile, he can´t see anyone especially not the guys who killed his farther.  He covers Merton and Grady but Jim and Harvey aren´t fooled. However police work isn´t quite sufficient so they threaten the Warden with Penguin and Zsasz. Which makes him listen. He didn´t know the fear toxin would be used against Penguin. Now he is scared. Harvey and Jim find Grady and Merton in their lair but get overpowered. And a little insight into Merton & Grady and how they see themselves  “Outlaws have a code”  They are better than criminals like the Penguin. They get away and we see Jonathan working for the gang, more serum is ready.  He begs them to  “please just get rid of it” , it being the scarecrow. But “We all have our fears to face.” they say and even lock him in the same room. /// Wow  I´ve had a moment of sympathy for Merton and Grady, despite them just fighting for their profit, they got a point about Penguin and spared Jim and Harvey but there it´s gone again. How they treat Jonathan is just vile. /// Thanks to that vileness all sympathy is gone when they watch the news and get to know Penguin is after them. Much later the remains of the gang turn to JONATHAN CRANE again but he´s been crafty in the meantime. “Jonathan Crane isn't here anymore. Just the Scarecrow.” /// If you can´t fight what you fear, turn sides. ///
“Since Penguin´s been cracking down, life´s been good.” BRUCE WAYNE shows up at the GCDP to talk with  JIM GORDON “Apparently, crime is legal now.” “And you're going along with that?” “Not really.” /// I´m not sure if that not really is enough for Bruce .. /// Bruce reasons that the number on the licenses must mean that there is a list. Not only listing criminals but also crime that hasn´t happened yet. Jim points out that the judges are on board and it would not help.  “I see”  /// A moment of grave importance ///  “But you haven´t given up .. “  Bruce says but Jim has to admit the crime he is going after is one without license. Bruce suggests using the Penguin to get the gang. Jim says he would do it if he knew how, apparently a couple seconds later he knows. There is a whole operation going. Not every cop is happy about it a couple cops circling Jim in the locker room.  /// Boy if this were fanfiction .. ///  “What happens when he starts giving out licenses for murders? Huh? What then?”   /// (**) Look, buddy, honey, pal, Jim, Jimmy, JIM GORDON listen he already basically does that. I´m sure hunting the criminals down did not mean putting them in cages, pet their heads and feed them. That is murder too! I know this is hard to stomach and understand for you Jim but the lives of criminals do matter too. I know you got this viewpoint that committing crime just makes you deserve everything bad that comes your way but .. it´s still murder.  Makes me thing, maybe Jim is just pissy because he can´t just do things like that. Penguin basically is living his dream currently. . isn´t he?   Which kind of puts the “Fire me.”  “Hey, don't tempt me.”  line in a spot light, with Harvey as his boss Jim already has a lot of liberties he wouldn´t have otherwise./// The cops don´t care.  Penguin made life “good”.
“It was called the Pax Romana” There is press at the ICEBERG LOUNGE. No one talks about the club opening though. Poor Penguin. They ask about Barbara Kean, no one has seen her but OSWALD COBBELPOT says her whereabouts aren´t his business. They also want to know more about the licenses. Which makes Oswald point out the low crime rates.   “You know, Augustus Caesar once presided over the longest period of peace and prosperity the world has ever known.  It was called the Pax Romana. Perhaps one day, this will be known as the Pax Penguina.” He further claims EDWARD NYGMA had a very rare brain disease. They froze him to wait for the cure. /// Did they mean to latch a story for a loving but misguides man and his wife who deserved better onto those two ///  Edward  begged him to not hide him away. Alone Oswald is talking to Ice!Edward claiming he banished all his feelings. He isn´t slave to his emotions anymore and has risen! Ivy interrupts and Oswald is not happy about that. /// Os, how about you be nice to actual people not the iceblock .. ////
Before that JIM GORDON showed up challenging him infront of the press. He´s a fraud, the gang with the fear toxin doesn´t respect him. Oswald acts like he buys into it. It´s the Penguin that keeps Gotham safe.
All boils down to the opening party. Even BRUCE WAYNE and ALFRES PENNYWORTH show up. “We were just admiring your frozen mate. Is he still alive in there?” “I fear we may never know.” “Well, you'll know when you finally thaw him out. When they discover a cure for his disease.”  Bruce also asks OSWALD about the license. “Everybody's talking about it, Alfred. I just want to know how it works.”   /// Saaaaaame.. /// “Anything you say stays between us.” “First, let me ask you would be agreeable to the idea of licensed crime?” “If crime had been licensed and controlled three years ago, my parents would still be alive.” Oswald reveals he only gives the guidelines and Mr. PENN cares for the details. Now they know who has THE LIST!
The MERTON/GRADY Gang shows up. First Zsasz and Penguin should get the fear serum, then go crazy. Before they can do anything said targets show up behind them “Jim Gordon and his ham fisted manipulation.”  Oswald pulls them up on stage and gives a speech. “For the past three months, I have given this city a tranquility it has never known. Now I would like to ensure that peace for the future. In the weeks to come, you will hear whispers about what's happening in the streets of Gotham. All you need to know is without me this is what you get. Men who want to bring fear back to our city, who promise a return to the old days. So tell your families, tell your friends, it is Oswald Cobblepot who keeps them safe, not the GCPD.” BRUCE WAYNE wants to stop Penguin from killing the men. Alfred won´t have it. “You can make a difference. There is a time for masks, and there is a time for Bruce Wayne.” So Bruce interrupts with words not violence. “I do the dirty work no one else will” Penguin say but Bruce keeps insisting to have him turn them over to the police.
IVY PEPPER pulls the leaver, lights go out. She resents Oswald.   /// He isn´t nice enough, doesn´t give her spotlight ?! pls show tell me something about her motivations ///  Chaos. Penguin gets the fear serum, sees scary Edward /// Is this meant to resemble an underwater aesthetic ? Suggesting that those two almost being dead and drowning moments were traumatic enough to latch onto this fear scenario ?? ///
Jim Gordon manages to handcuff Merton and makes a point in declaring:  “You're under arrest, by order of the Gotham City Police Department.” “Penguin or chicken” say the papers because scared Oswald hugs and clings to Jim. Jim doesn´t care about that he  just wants to find Jonathan  “I wouldn't expect too much help from these parts, though.”  “There's good cops out there. They just need reminding.”  /// That´s the nicest thing Jim ever said about them .. “
HoodieBRUCE shows up for the list and just takes it from PENN, then proceeds to prevent crime. At least he tries.
“Don't turn your back on a guy unless you're sure he's down. Otherwise, not bad.” SELINA KYLE gets attacked, she wins. TABITHA trains her, they will get pizza. ZSASZ shows up and throws shade on their living conditions. Wasn´t she rich? Only until his boss stole her club. Zsasz points out a couple other things “call it even” he suggests. “Now, he could just kill you, but he figures it's time to let bygones be bygones.” /// look, really, I´m just not even gonna try to think about why, assuming Penguin indeed  just could kill Tabitha, he wouldn´t do it, okay I´m lying, I´m still very much thinking about it, I understand why Theo Galavan would be his prime goal but I don´t understand why he isn´t resenting Tabitha more, like the only explanation I can think of it that he buys into “I was just following orders” rhetoric .. but .. ///   Zsasz offers them an invitation to the Iceberg Lounge opening. “Kiss the ring, get the licence”  /// One would think that´s better than kissing Barbara Kean´s shoes /// Tabitha  wants to run but Selina came to here to move up, they are barely making it so far. Working for Penguin could change that. Tabitha says  “I´m not working for him, now pack” /// I was really worried for a moment that this is just gonna be one of Tabitha´s defining character traits, she could make it on her own she could be boss, like she has the skills but she keep latching herself to other people Theo, Butch (arg) Babs, now Selina and Penguin .. but no she doesn´t phew.. for now./// Later Selina shows up at the Iceberg Lounge alone. Zsasz is not amused but Tabitha is just right there. /// I hope with a hidden agenda. It´s sweet how relieves Selina is though, they really must have bonded off screen /// She was worried about her she states. Zsasz want´s to search them for weapons “Sure, if you want to lose a hand” /// NO! You don´t make that joke without an extension, like anything maybe a .. and I certainly can´t recommend that ///  SELINA KYLE is on top of the roof, with heels. /// WHY? Is the camera acting like we should slightly be worried she would fall ?!! /// BRUCE WAYNE shows up, like she knew he would, like he knew she would and stuff and things. Bruce wants to apologize, and appreciates her kind gesture. He´s sorry but not happy about her choice of a mentor. She doesn’t care. Alfred interrupts.
                               ...............................................
AVE PENGUIN * “We ain't kicking half our take to that little creep.” Wedding robber guy says about OSWALD. Good to see he still does have that reputation. So I ask you Gotham, why, why for the love of god do you keep skipping over the parts showing how he rose up high despite of that resistance. It´s the whole story all over again, Odgen Barker/Morton being a tiny hint of issues he had and has to face yet they just keep ditching the interesting part and just *plop* put the Penguin on the Throne.   * Also, look I like that they established Penguin as the competent one, and the mayor as well as the commissioner to be aware that they aren´t (but to be fair Oswald can operate outside of the law so that´s a huge advantage) but could they just for once show how he actually managed to do that? Just let Freeze, Firefly and F(V)ictor run through the streets just murdering everyone doing crime, or recruit them for the licence program? That´s just all a lot of effort that still needs to be organized well and could just go wrong. I wanna see that. * “I have affidavits from his doctor,  if you would like to see them.” I wonder if he really has them or if it´s part of the lie. It reminds me a bit of when he was claiming Aubrey James was illiterate, which was well documented. I kind of keep admiring his talent and audacity to just keep uttering such obvious lies.
ARKHAM ASYLUM * Hearing the Arkham Warden Reed utter a dutiful mechanic “We mustn't call them "loonies.” while he exploits his patients and worse while this show gives us another oh look at those mad, crazy, funny, dangerous, pathetic  people collage, like we are stuck in Victorian times and is just one inch short of selling us a stick to poke them with feels surreal. * Also that there is a Venn diagram that has an overlap between the “orderlies working with patients” circle and the “criminals” circle is further troubling. If just it were only fiction.
RANDOM NICE THINGS * Zsasz & Food: No one shares food with Zsasz, he didn´t get the muffins, even after complimenting the cook and saying they smell good, Selina closes the box when he asks about the pizza. He keeps raiding the fridges of victims .. and Jim. Please never change him. * Zsasz and Alfred keeping each other at gunpoint. And exchanging a smile afterwards * “He's dead, remember? Not that that matters much in this town anymore.” * “Exclusive, but welcoming. Urbane and edgy.” * “Probably not a bad thing.” “How's that?” “Guys get to let off steam, resentments don't fester.” “Next time, you can get punched in the face.” “This beautiful mug? No one would dare.” * “What about the alarm?” “Forget it. We got a license, remember?”
CODES and MISSIONS There are a lot of parallels again this week and self image / identity stuff. With  BRUCE WAYNE it is directly addressed that one needs to be aware of his mission and priorities. There even is talk with Alfred about the best method to reach them. Currently Bruce wants to have it all. They put him in contrast to SELINA who has extent her “Number1” credo to wanting more. She thinks she´ll reach that with siding with Tabitha and Penguin. Bruce only pretends to take that side to gather information to topple Penguin. Not once does Bruce think about if Penguins approach might be helpful. Neither does JIM GORDON who again stands both mirroring and opposing BRUCE this week. Both share the knowledge that Penguin is not the saviour he claims but while Jim pushes against him when confronted with the GCPD/Harvey/Politics his rhetoric changes when he talks to Bruce. He tells him everything that speaks against going after Penguin at this stage. He talks about the judges who are in with the licences. Something a Season1 Jim probably would not just have said without adding something amongst the lines of we  ( I ) have to change that. Despite discrepancies Bruce and Jim´s mission is still the same one. On the other side there is most cops and politics. Who see that crime rates are a historic low, and they as well got a point. That they are completely undermining law and law enforcement, of course is not less true. Surprisingly we got another group who is opposing Oswald´s ambitions. Criminals, pardon I mean Outlaws. MERTON/GRADY claim they are not like Oswald. “I'm an outlaw! Outlaws have a code. Criminals, they'll take everything. They'll take a man's livelihood.” Of course one could claim they only oppose him that they can keep in crime business but apparently it´s also partly personal for them. And they show a vastly different self image. It kind of reminds of JIM GORDON´s knack of splitting people into criminalsTM and not criminals, no matter their actions. It´s hard for Jim to recognize the good a criminal like Oswald does or face his own criminal(ish) actions.  Merton and Grady can´t pretend that they don´t commit crime, or claim they do it “to safe Gotham” but they can separate themselves from another “brand” of criminal. I really wonder if Jim listened to them talking, and if what his thoughts were about that. Another telling detail connected to that in the ongoing JIM&BRUCE parallel is how Jim Gordon does not even bat an eye at the frozen Edward. (Of course Edward tried to kill him so that kind of is a bad example.) Both Bruce and Jim entered the club with a different mission but only one was taken aback that there is a frozen person in the room, probably a murdered frozen person.  It´s as Oswald said “You have a good heart.” It´s a beautiful little nod to the much mentioned  Bruce even cares about the criminals lives thing, which stands in contrast to how Jim Gordon acts (**)
Link FearSerum Edward is not only in water but might be methaper for Oswald fearing himself for being ready to throw his self preservation over board
