I'm leaning hard into the holiday spirit this year. Last year I was away for 2 weeks so I didn't even bother putting my tree up. There was one other year recently when I just couldn't muster the mental or physical energy to bother. So, I had the energy and time this weekend and my tree and decorations are already up, I've been burning cinnamon candles and drinking hot chocolate, and there's just a very cozy vibe in here. Who wants to come hang out and read holiday themed fics with me?

#song of the day#it's been two weeks + two days since the last song of the day#the issue is you see that I started the songs up again in December because my insomnia was fucking up my perception of time#and I wanted some kind of regular marker to help me keep track#and then what happened two weeks + two days ago is that I lost all track of time and subsequently the songs of the day failed#I'm gonna see if I can keep up again for a bit now that I've re-restarted without an alarm on my phone#but if I miss any this week I'll just give in and turn the alarm back on#updates from the last two weeks are going to sound so chaotic let's see#I got a new project at work /and/ I got demoted /and/ I got added to a higher access level /and/ I'm in charge of a new database#yes all of those things together. I'm to be an accountant now! not instead but in addition to my other stuff. should be interesting#I didn't get April Fools off like I was scheduled to because all my scheduled vacation got unapproved#(I was here for about twenty nonsequential minutes to boop people and I'm glad I made time for it. extremely fun to boop)#I lied shamelessly to get eclipse day off and we went on a full-day roadtrip and it was wonderful. everything I dreamed and more#I killed one of my baby succulents through clumsiness and rabbits ate my pea plants but my sage and cabbages look promising#got a massive pot of mint flourishing on my porch and the horseradish is gorgeous#got Duncan lights and plants and a filter system for his frog tank but we haven't set up the substrate yet#so there's just potted plants sitting inside a terrarium. very amusing honestly#I've been playing a little Stardew and eating a /lot/ of hot sauce and tofu#drinking tons of klass aguas frescas--especially the soursop one. holy shit is it good. the mango and hibiscus also#and these past few days I've been sleeping better#for most of those two weeks I was getting a handful of twenty-minute naps each workday and then crashing unwillingly on the weekend#I haven't read any comic books since February :'( this weekend we're going to costco and then I'm reading comics until Monday#what have y'all been up to? I've missed being around#edit: oh shit the actual song part. anyway this is James Taylor! makes me happy and helps me settle. good vibes songs#I'm half-panicked about work all the time recently and then also today was tax day (Nick's taxes. blegh)#James Taylor doing some heavy lifting round here

well damn. the coworker i work most closely with who hardly pulls his weight and always has hella judgy vibes is finally quitting. about damn time. it's gonna be rough until they find someone new (and hopefully doesn't take them as long as they took to find me) but i can handle the workload for a while. it'll really only be harder because i won't get to really take more than a lunch break, but let's be real, it's only like a 25% increase in workload ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
all things considered though, it is just a reminder that i don't want to stay in this role forever. i was bored with this role when i got this job, and as much as i enjoy the general pace and the work i do, i'm bored! it's nice having downtime, and i don't take it for granted, but when there is stuff to do, i don't really find it engaging anymore. i'm ready for new challenges. and i really hope that role opening up in fall is the one for me- if not, it'll be a step to the next opportunity.
life's good right now, and with this work change i'm worried that it's gonna end up being too much on my plate and unbalance me, but i'll take it as it comes. i'm finally fucking starting to make friends here, and i'm really excited about it. just before the pandemic hit, i was working up to going out and meeting people, and i'm finally ready again. it feels good. and i don't feel like i've been set on fire after hanging out with this group. we're going to an escape room in a few weeks! life is good!
#narrating my life#work stuff's gonna be rough for a bit but on the plus side i might be switching to 4/10s for a while#and i'm sure it'll wipe me out for a few weeks until i get used to it#but i can reliably Do Things when i have 3day weekends! and if i'm making friends...?#i've been trying to consciously enjoy these moments because i've been feeling so good#and it feels like some big changes are coming#i'm really looking forward to my walk to work tomorrow morning#(and no judgy kid tomorrow! just meeee! to work at my own pace and not have to listen to his awful music!!!)#(and put up with his rancid vibes!!!)

i so very badly do not want to go back to my placement place tomorrow
#a works-closely-with-us organisation gunned down one (1) thing i've been working on for the past month#and it did not upset me too much actually but now I Have So Few Things To Work On and i HATE having nothing to do#and i will have Nothing To Do#and im so#i'm so!#anxious about the thought of sitting there for 8 hours being bored and i really just want to crawl into writing bc i didn't get Any writing#done this weekend bc i got too overwhelmed by all the things that are happening always and then on tuesday i need to take my car#to be repaired and i am so stressed about that too#sighs#i am gonna have a shower and see if that makes things less awful it usually does#and i will be careful to get enough sleep tonight and make breakfast tomorrow#i'll be ok#goal setting: shower rn and one reply maybe for connor#and we'll see what the goals can be tomorrow. but just these for today#negative cw#(supportive general vibes appreciated)
