Main learnings from first my class on sexuality. The following learnings are from the work of Jeffrey Weeks's Sexuality (1986)
People are often scared to talk about sexuality not because it’s dangerous or pervasive, but because it is associated with very strong feelings - whether it’s pleasure or shame.
Studying sexuality is not about figuring out what is “correct” behavior, but coming to terms with diversity and choice.
Before, a long time ago, sexuality and sex were only studied in the context of marriage and mortality. But now it’s studied in many contexts including health and violence.
Sexuality is considered biological. But it is, in fact, a creation of various social and historical forces.
Any sex, historically (and perhaps even now) that leads to reproduction is considered normal, while everything else was considered pervasive.
Some aspects of intimacy have nothing to do with sex and some sex is not intimate. (loved this)
Sodomy was considered bad, but being the passive sexual partner (bottom) was considered even worse.
Female sexuality is limited by economic and social dependence, but also by the power of men to define sexuality and what it means.
Behavior does not always equal identity. This is highly prevalent in the history of sexuality (including Greek history), where men behaved sexually with each other, but it wasn't considered homosexuality. Because behavior does not always equal identity. Behaviors, including homosexual ones, existed way before identities did. (this was a mindfuck for me. need to learn more about it)
Our cultures (and laws) regulate sexuality by WHO factors (who you can have sex with - race, age, caste, gender) and HOW factors (how you can have sex with them - what positions, how many times, when is it acceptable)

I've been bursting to show you all this model! This is my very first dragon design to actually make it from drawing board to brick! And I'm so happy he was ready in time for the year of the dragon!
He's part of a set of models I've been working on this past year themed around fairy tales. I'll post about some of those soon!
Please excuse my arm in the last photo. It does show how big he is though!

This week:
A 19 year old passenger with her baby, who only spoke spanish, missed her connecting flight due to weather and would have been stuck sleeping in the airport but my co flight attendant (who spoke spanish) booked her commuter hotel for her and gave her a free room for the night
Another passenger missed her connecting flight home but since she lived just under an hour from me I gave her a ride from dc to virginia beach
My pilot was contacted by the wife of a pilot he'd flown with (who later killed himself) because she'd found a photo of their crew at dinner, so now he takes group photos of every crew he hangs out with, just in case
Another passenger missed her connecting flight and was crying because her mom was in hospice so 2 other passengers who did not know her offered to rent a car and carpool down to jacksonville together
An actor who I will not name but who I'm a huge fan of was in line at the airport pizza place in front of me and my co flight attendant (also a fan) and we were trying so hard to be cool about it and he could tell and he paid for our food because "You all take such good care of us in the air, we should take care of you on the ground."
The van driver for our new orleans overnight heard me say I was vegetarian but wished I could try authentic gumbo and called his friend who is a chef and then drove us to the restaurant where I was given a creole style vegetarian gumbo he'd improvised
After a terrible night which saw me and my co flight attendant trying for 4 hours to get hotel rooms from our airline, the night clerk at a hotel finally took over the phone call and reprimanded them on our behalf, dictating the exact paperwork she needed sent over and then expedited the process so she could give us rooms

we have a cat in for boarding right now who has the sweetest most darlingist face. he looks sweet and cute but he is not. he is a motherfucker who will, without literally any warning, whip his arm out to scratch you and hook his nails in your skin and be unable to let go. he grazed me this morning and apparently last time he got stuck in the hand of one of the vet techs for like two minutes before they could wrap him in a towel and remove his claws from her skin. and I was warned of this. and I still thought he wouldnt try because his face was so innocent and he was just quietly watching me

i know vet prices are out of control expensive but it's because the world is expensive, not greed, and so every time i encounter someone complaining about it in bad faith i want to grab them by the hands with shaking, sweaty desperation and say "on average human nurses are paid 30-50 dollars an hour. vet techs, who are nurses of every department and every specialty and also janitors and mma fighters, are lucky to break minimum wage."
