The Playfellow Crew
Chapter 1, Part 1
1969, December.
"Where is it?" Ritzy was busy looking for the apple she grabbed to work. She woke up late that day and had no time to prepare her meal. "Anyone? Does anyone seen my apple?" She yells at the studio filled with busy studio crews dragging and moving props around the set. She was frustrated, it was the umpteenth time this happens to her for last three months.
She went to Fionn Finnigan in the Art department, slamming the door open and walk near him."Piyon! Can you help me..." (She had hard time seeing the difference of F and P pronunciation) Rambling about how she was late at work and didn't made herself a lunch box and was opt to grab an apple that is now missing.
"Is that about an apple again?" Fionn was a man in 20's yet still younger than Ritzy and yes he has seen this scene before.
"Yes?" Still sobbing. "I'm already tired and I'm hungry and ...."
"Why don't just buy your meal here, Ritzy?"
"I'm still your senior so address me Mrs. Ritzy?"
"Why the hell will I do that? You're the only one addressing people like that!" He glared at her annoyed and taking a deep breath to listen.
Her eyes grew bigger and looking up to this tall figure. "No, I'm not! And they like it even so I'm the only one..." she pulls him down as she notice herself getting a bit louder. "Also I'm saving my money for my family, remember? I can't be just spending money here and there!" She slumped to the side of his desk and lowers her head.
Fionn stood up to his drawing desk with a straight face and drags Ritzy away from the Art department. He takes a deep breath and spoke "Ms.... Er... No. Mrs. Santos, here have this cash and buy something in that vending machine." He hands her a few dollar and points out to the vending in the corner.
She looks at him with hesitation and mutters, "But its your money!"
"No buts, You can have that!" He still pointing to the vending machine and waiting for her to move.
She looked at him, embarrassed with the cash she received. She nods and thanks him, she felt humbled and went to vending machine. She took two energy bar, glances at him and suddenly runs to him. "Here, take this, Piyon."
Fionn wants to correct Ritzy but he didn't, she might be older but for him he should the bigger man in this situation.
"I know I've been making a big fuzz about this apple thing, but this job is too frustrating... Imagine, for the past 3 months since I started this video technician-ing thing, things are getting weirder and weirder in set. Apples starts disappearing, few staff getting injured, and sometimes the whole footage of the show just kept on doing those weird glitches. Like, that's my job to look after the final footage, it was all running smooth until all of a sudden that freaking thing happened."
Fionn turned his head to Ritzy, alarmed hearing about that incident. "You know what? I have the same experience like you..."
She turns her head to Fionn after hearing those word. "Really?"
"Yeah, You know me, right? I'm a part of the animation and art direction of the this show, right?"
"Uh huh.." she got herself invested and leans in his side.
"Yet everytime i check our panels and plate, there's this weird scribbles on the each animation panels... Wait." He then stood up and drags Ritzy to the archive, took an envelope and pulls out a several animation board panels. "...here look at this. I don't get it ... I swear, look! Those are not there before... Those are evaluated and inspected before getting approved and I... I received it spotless but...."
Ritzy examined each panels and laid them to the light table. "You're saying you don't understand these scribbles? was it from anyone in your department?"
"Yeah, they seems to be drawn by a kid, based on the handwriting strokes, it has difficulty to grasp with pen, here" he points into a pressed squiggly line in the panel "The line got no control on... The strokes are shaking and heavy, it ruins the whole panel."
"Yeah, you're right... But why they are sabotaging our works?" In her peripheral vision, there was someone's watching them from the door. More like a shadow. "D'you see that, Piyon?" Ritzy glued her eyes to him like telling him not to move and act like nothing happened.
"The what?" He looked at her puzzled.
"There was someone watching us from afar... I don't know why but it might be a ghost or something." Her trembling hand reached into her pocket, wrapped her pearl rosary in her hand and hold on it tightly. "Piyon, stay observant, okay?" This gesture confuses Fionn yet he nods obediently. "Oh, about this ..." She shook the wrapper of energy bar, "I owe you." Then she left looking around for something in the Art department

Well, it's been a full week since Gundam: The Witch From Mercury has ended, and God, I miss it already.
This was a special show to me, and no joke, it might have made my top five anime of all time. There was just something wonderful about getting invested in a series while it was still running and tuning in week by week and having time to really digest what I've seen before the next episode hit. Granted, I marathoned all of season one and only checked it out because of the SLAP, but even so. It was a wild ride.
And not in the least because wow, a canon wlw couple in a massively mainstream franchise like Gundman, one that ends up getting unambiguously married, and it's not treated like a joke, not played for fanservice, and doesn't portray one of them as a horny molester. That is kind of huge and groundbreaking. And yeah, I am ride or die for SuleMio. They're like number two of my favorite anime couples, second only to KyoSaya, and they actually have the advantage of bursting out of the subtext into undeniable TEXT.
What's funny is that I remember being a little put off by their dynamic in season one. Despite all the hype, there was this weird distance between them, one that was very unromantic, to the point where I started to wonder if they even liked each other in that way, or if it was just a political thing. But then they had their WONDERFUL zero gravity argument, where it was revealed that this was actually a deliberate writing choice, and Suletta and Miorine's differences in backgrounds, ways of thinking, toxic upbringings, and difficulties communicating were going to be obstacles that they had to overcome. And watching them struggle with those problems and make multiple mistakes was honestly far more captivating then a cliched lovey-dovey relationship would have ever been. And seeing them finally come together and get their happy ending was well worth the wait.
But even beyond the main couple, this show fucked. The mech fights were all hype, everything was gorgeously animated, all the side characters were all unique and likeable (seriously, I was making an effort to remember everyone's names, even the throwaway characters with barely any lines), the music was OUTSTANDING (Red: Birthmark still gives me chills) and I still hold that Lady Prospera was not only one of the best and most interesting antagonists in a long time, but she is still one hundred percent Grade A Space MILF.
Still would.
Did it have it's problems? Of course it did. I agree that the last few episodes did feel really rushed, with stuff like the Calibarn and the big space laser suddenly showing up and being super important despite never even being mentioned. All the names of the different organizations were hard to keep track of, even though it was really important to the plot, and there was a lot going on that I felt could have stood to have room to breathe. Honestly, I don't know why WFM only got half the usual amount of episodes for a Gundam show, as it could really used a few more.
And yes, I would have loved to have seen the wedding and a kiss. I know, it's Japan, and Gundam doesn't usually have kissing, but after all that build up!
Still, what we got was still wonderful, and I'm glad that for as shaky as it got, it still stuck the landing.
I'm gonna miss this show. I'm really gonna miss it.

Rebels Rewatch: "The Last Battle"
Well TCW fans were happy lol.
It's weird to write these as someone who has very little emotional investment in TCW.
Okay, full disclaimer, I have seen quite a chunk of the show, the husband showed me several of the best arcs, I've seen scattered bits and pieces here and there so I know who a lot of the key players are, a lot of the important events and everything but... I dunno the whole Clone Wars era has just never been a big area of interest for me.
Happy for y'all tho?
Anyway.
Tumblr media
[Insert commentary about how this show has really gorgeous environments and y'all sleeping on this work and effort.]
Kanan lampshading the tendency for missions to go sideways ha ha.
Ooof this verbal stumble by Rex is painful, he doesn't know how to act in a scenario where a Jedi is not his commanding officer, ouch.
Oh wow, just like Ezra, Rex shields himself inside his helmet.
Ezra messing with the B1 head awww.
Side note: I LOVE how stocky the model for clones is in Rebels. TCW clones always felt too tall and thin to me, Rebels clones look way more like Temura Morrisan's actual physique.
Ezra accidentally being insensitive about the Clone Wars moment number 1.
Kanan's comment about "scars you can't see". Something the animated shows have always excelled at is showing the genuine aftereffects of PTSD.
Tumblr media
Ezra's been playing the Watson role for the past few episodes and it is adorable.
Rex's initial panic when he thinks he's back in the war. :(((
I understand that TCW fandom cried a lot about Rex calling Cody's name unconsciously here.
Tumblr media
*sobs* Ezra still looks so TINY compared to everyone else.
Kalani assumed the shutdown order was a Republic trick lol.
Lasats not being part of the Clone Wars is an interesting detail. Obviously, Doylistically speaking, they couldn't have been since they weren't created yet, but also I like the idea that Lasats were adamantly against participating in the conflict and the Separatists took one look at them and decided invading them anyway wasn't worth it.
Ezra maybe naively jumps into things feet first, to Rex and Kanan's consternation. They both already know that War Is Hell. But they also have the best chance of getting out of the situation if they relive their collective war experiences and face their past by fighting one last Clone Wars battle.
Oh hey! It's the shuttle they'd repurpose later as the Phantom II!
Hera and Sabine's small B-plot is very brief, but hilarious.
I think Pryce must have pulled a LOT of political favors in order to be granted occasional command of her own Star Destroyer. She's apparently allowed to lay a trap for the Spectres specifically and has the authority to deploy local Imperial outposts, too.
Not bad for a planetary governor. But then, Pryce was always ambitious beyond her station.
She attached herself to Thrawn primarily for the advancement opportunities, I think.
The sex was probably good too I mean what?
Tumblr media
The boys be looking good.
Lol Kanan can hear the cacophony of clanking droid footprints.
Poor Ezra is so lost with all these references.
Tumblr media
This is just a fun adventure for him, he doesn't have the frame of reference to know just how harrowing and dangerous this could be for the average Clone Wars Jedi commander and clone unit. So he doesn't know to keep tighter formation and wants to keep charging ahead instead of waiting to assess.
Rex casually calling his training and conditioning and genetic modulation his "programming", directly comparing himself to the droids. Ow. Ow ow ow ow. Hurting in "Central thesis of TCW, that the clones are not just identical mindless meat droids but individual and free-thinking men" feelings.
Kalani and Zeb's exchange here is hilarious.
Chopper jumpscaring Ezra lol.
Tumblr media
Just wholecloth grabs his wrist like an excited kid trying to show their parent something.
Tumblr media
He's come so far, I'm so proud. All he needs is the slightest gesture.
OH HEY IT'S MY FAVORITE SCENE.
Rex is... I think a little rattled by getting hit. Sure, the armor protected him, but you know it can't have been fun and he probably thought for a moment he had gone down for real. So yeah, Ezra's innocently flippant attitude about things upsets him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"A good soldier follows orders!" Ouch. Ow ow ow ow that phrase, Rex, please.
You know it's something that's gotta echo inside his head constantly, his programming won't let him forget it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eternally a fan of the kicked-puppy flinch Ezra gives here.
Tumblr media
Kanan immediately reassuring Ezra that it's not him. <3
Tumblr media
The beginnings of a realization.
I slowed this sequence way down to check where Ezra got hit (for... reasons) and from what I can tell, it looks like Ezra didn't quite manage to block a shot and some of it fritzed past his blade and hit his right collar, right where his armor is.
Rex gets dinged in the helmet moments later, but as he said, "Gen 1 armor always holds up." Once again, Rebels showing off the importance of good armor. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
<333333
The group get up to the command center and Ezra starts to live up to his name as "bridger" between disparate groups, first pointing out that by all rights the droids should have won their skirmish, they were just too old to actually function correctly. Kalani agrees and claims victory, but Ezra also pushes against that, pointing out that none of them actually won the Clone Wars. It just... ended.
Tumblr media
The more techie side of Star Wars YouTube have analyzed both sides and concluded that, absent the obvious direction and self-sabotage by Palpatine, the Separatists would have eventually won the Clone Wars. But of course the sabotage and playing both sides was the point. No one was supposed to win the Clone Wars because it wasn't a real war, it wasn't naturally occurring or organic, it was a massive artificial power play by Palpatine, who instigated, incited, prolonged, and manipulated things so that whichever side "won", he would come out on top as the victor standing on the corpses of the Jedi.
Palpatine set both sides up to fail.
This is something Star Wars fandom repeatedly fails to understand, there was no winning in this whole situation. The trap was too carefully set, nothing the Jedi or the Senate or the Separatists did could have prevented the war from happening and nothing they did could have stopped its ultimate endgoal, which was the destruction of the Jedi Order and the consolidation of power under Palpatine as sole ruler of the galaxy. That's the whole tragedy, that they tried so hard, got so close, but ultimately could not prevent that awful fate from happening.
Barring Anakin sitting his ass down for just five more minutes or slashing through the correct party in Palpatine's office, there was no narrative escape. The choices were damned if you do, damned if you don't, and either way you're ending up dead.
Anyway, Ezra's armor-piercing questions absolutely stun Rex and Kalani into silence for a moment before Zeb points out the Empire won. Because they decided to conveniently show up just in time for a good Enemy Mine situation lol.
Tumblr media
Kalani resists the logic at first since he's not at war with the Empire but the Stormtroopers casually destroying his scout unit probably helped change his mind lol.
Tumblr media
Ezra Persuasion Checks both Kalani and Rex into accepting the team-up, like the budding little diplomat he is. :)
"Well this takes trust to a whole new level." Lol.
Nice to see the B1s retaining their status as hilariously abused butt monkeys.
Tumblr media
Rex praising Ezra for "ending the Clone Wars" ahhhhh.
Sabine's eyes lighting up when she sees the shuttle they're bringing awww.
And TCW-inspired credits as a nice little homage.
Predictably this is one of the husband's favorite episodes. It's a fun little romp, pays some love to TCW and develops Ezra's character a bit. It doesn't really affect the larger story outside of that so I guess it could be called filler, but it's a fun filler.

edit: rant edited to reflect how Snoot Game treats gender identity b/c i hadn't really done more than look at a few convos about it
I'm GBH, Goodbye Volcano High got like, the worst fucking shake
Disclaimer, I haven't played it (there is a very special irony in this that i'll get into in a bit), but I've watched people on youtube play it, and I think it's. Fine? It's fine. But everything surrounding this game, everything that happened to and around it, it's fucking wild. I've never seen a game get such a poor serve-up on the tennis court before.
It gets put up on the big console premier along huge AAA budget games. That's rough. A small intimate-scale VN about the end of the world as a metaphor for growing up and leaving highschool and changing and also a non-metaphor for the world ending as itself a metaphor for the new generation entering into what feels like an absolutely hopeless, pointless future (spoilers: the future is pretty fucking dire (the present is already fucking bad))?
Those are some rough themes! That isn't doomchief and master slayer punching guys! And not to denigrate doomchief! These are some ROUGH themes and the trust that those themes will be handled WELL isn't something you want to give out so readily! Those are themes that are easy to fuck up! Fair! But still. Oof!
To have your relatively small scale game put up as a launch title alongside mass-consumption AAA games. Ouch.
I'll admit: the art style was pretty rough, it's really rough on first look. I made fun of it too.
Then it comes out the MC is enby, that it deals with queer themes, and 4chan-esque folk go nuts over it. Snoot Game comes out which, apparently, seemingly, actually not bad! A lot more ironic but with serious themes handled, apparently earnestly, and it's overall... good!? Even some critical accounts suggest it isn't, at least, bad? Whichever: it comes out faster than GVH does, so it now has a parody-competitor dealing with the same themes, but not just as a JOKE but actually putting effort into it too. Like. That's the thing. Snoot Game DEALS with strong themes of growing up, of becoming a person, it DEALS with the themes GVH is saying it will deal with... and it uses the characters to do it too.
And it does it, by some accounts, WELL.
Ouch!
Granted Snoot Game is from 4chan and apparently I'm now reading one of the themes is Fang accepting they're a woman and they were just being enby to try and be different, and while it seems like it DOES handle it very seriously, and like, the game seems to penalize you for being shitty about their gender, and like, detransitioning IS a thing! I don't want to give TOO much trust to a 4chan-derived game either. I'm literally enby, but I also wasn't always enby, but like. Having a game where the message of "you were only trans because you were pressured into being different", it's, ehhhhhhhh not great no!
TBH without going through Snoot Game I can't really speak about it but Snoot Game overall isn't the main point, the main point is:
Some people are already now primed with associations and expectations, you already have a doppleganger as your competitor. OUCH.
So like.
Pretty rough.
And while Snoot Game, from the compressed summaries of it I've seen, seems to actually have honest heart and love in it in its final form, a lot of people just seem to be along for the hate-ride against GVH at this point because "eww the alphabet rainbow furries."
And then the writer has to step down because they found out she's into child por--wait, it was just 3d animations? That someone else made? That she was watching and criticizing as part of an article on how dumb video game porn is?
Oh. See, there's a difference between "the author is an active pedophile" and "the author watched a Harry Potter porn animation to write an article on the concept of video game porn," but in our modern era there's really never a distinction. Drawing something bad is the same as doing it in real life. Looking at it at all is the same as doing it in real life. If you see a woman's ankle on the street, make sure to head immediately to confession or God will judge you for the rape you have committed in your heart.
We live in such a media-literacy dead-end zone that people are calling the original Lolita book child porn. We live in such a media-literacy dead-end timeline that people are saying the only media that should be permitted to exist is happy comfort fluff where nothing bad ever happens because if you make bad things happen in fiction it means you're an evil villain :3 i'm not an evil villain, though, i don't watch bad media!
So of course it's fine to ruin careers because that's not EVIL. I didn't look at the BAD media so I CAN'T be evil. So you know, we have this modern purity pandemic of people thinking they're heroes for getting people to kill themselves because they drew or wrote "the wrong kind of thing" and are therefore EVIL and we're in a post-DnD world the cultural well got poisoned by DnD's secular take on evangelical protestantism's absolute morality of saved-vs-nonsaved. You're Lawful Good, you know you're Lawful Good. Whatever you to do Chaotic Evil people? That's fine. You can do whatever you want to them. You're Good.
Anyway, then it gets delayed to remove all her influence from the game, because at this point, even admitting you know what sex is online seems to be enough to ruin anything you touch tbh. Humanity's doing great, btw.
Like I can find twitter posts of her apologizing for "hurting people" by having seen harry potter porn. Your species is insane, just btb.
GVH finally comes out quietly and everyone's so fucking. MAD at this game. Hardcore 4chan whateverfolk hate it because there's queers and highschoolers. Other people dislike it because Snoot Game already came out and now GVH feels like fanfiction of THAT to them. They already met these characters, enjoyed them written like they were in Snoot Game, so how they come off in GVH feels worse. And you know, sure! That's a rough fucking shake when a fanfiction comes out before your actual release and it's good! For others it's tainted because a ""sex perver"" had worked on it. For others the art style and that it premiered alongside big name AAA games as a launch title was enough to slot it firmly in the derision zone. For some, because the queer community cannot NOT devour its own tail, it's doing queerness wRONG (Fang's parents MISGENDER and DEADNAME them!!! you can't put that in a game that deals with gender as a theme!!!!)
And then you have people who don't care about ANY of that, who are upset that everyone dies in the end and "your choices didn't matter", despite your choices affecting your relationships with the other characters. Granted? Sure! More actual endings beyond the end-of-the-world concert would be great! But comparing it to Mass Effect 3 where NOTHING mattered because the Reapers destroy everything and you pick one option at the end and their implied consequences before like 4 different changes to the ending came out to retcon "oh yeah everyone in the galaxy is stranded, everyone probably dies anyway, you accomplished nothing everyone's still dead" ? ?
The world's ending. That's the point. It's what you do with the time left that seems to be the point? Yeah? No? I'm not saying it HIT that theme well, and I'm not saying it actually failed at it either. I honestly think it did FINE. The criticism i keep seeing is "everyone died so nothing mattered." Buddy. Buddy. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE. Please do not let that convince you that nothing you ever did mattered.
Among all that it came out buggy, apparently, and the music minigame isn't like. Super. Good. Doesn't matter too much if you do well or not. Not greatly designed? So you know. The game also has just general internal problems too mechanically, so people without a dog in the race just don't enjoy playing it? Like, the art style was all on the creators, like, it's... it's not GREAT I'll be real! It's really weird. It's humans in those latex dolphin masks the memes weren't off base even i was laughing at it and groaning at yet another piece of media whose theme was "leaving highschool is like the world ending"
but like.
GVH isn't like. I dont' think this is some great amazing the best game ever. The art style's grown on me but in the way where you learn to ignore how it looks. But like, I see people complaining it's too whiny--wait, the characters aren't depressed ENOUGH about the world ending--honestly, honestly,
I think I like it? I haven't played it but I've watched it and I think I like it. I'm not like, this is probably the last day in a while I'll ever even think about the game, it isn't going to stick with me for years and years, it didnt' make a big impact on me--but I liked it well enough???
At this point, my default assumption at this point is if someone strongly openly firmly dislikes this game it's not at all for any good reasons--or rather, that it's not on the value of the game in-and-of-itself. This poor game was saddled with all this WEIGHT on top of it. Can you even dig it clear of this external context and examine the game itself for what it is anymore?
I'm writing all these words and like. I haven't PLAYED it i've just watched other people play it. I'm not even BIG into the game it's like... it's okay!
But oh my god I cannot get over what a fucking. BAD serve-up the game had leading to its release and just beyond. Oof. Ouch. God. That's real rough, buddy. I have never seen something get this POOR a serve. What an absolute rough, ravage, unfair birth for a thing into the world!
I think if the game congealed out of the aether (and maybe with a more... better art direction?) it'd be fondly remembered in small quantities?
Instead it's just... the actual game itself is just BURIED under all this mess.
It's fucking fascinating to me, honestly. It's far more fascinating what happened to this game than the game itself at this point, and that, too, isn't very fair to the poor game. I, too, am here not to talk about the game, to care about the game, to have anything to say about the game. I am PART of this problem I'm talking about. Instead of addressing the game I'm talking about the context that was built around it.
I'm here because I remembered the drama, looked into all the drama, then went to watch the game and, after seeing ALL of that, EVERYthing I read through to get to the game itself, actually seeing the game was just... like... for this? All of that, for this?
Huh.

BISHOP😭😭😭 him being scared of getting piercing ouuuu. I like the thought of Bishop maybe being scared of needles in general. They don't really hurt that much but the image of the needle slowly being pushed into his skin gives him a MAJOR ick- even if he looks away he KNOWS that it's happening and he can just barely feel it it makes him so🤢🤢🤢 But hey at least Lucky is there to hold his hand☺️ (and possibly tease him a little bit afterwards)
ALSO MAX REVEAL MAX REVEAL MAX REVEAL MAX---- 🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽
I'm advocating for Bishop and Max to be green buddies, idk what they're dynamic would be exactly but I definitely think she'd have more of a rebellious streak than him💚💚
Also 👁👁👁👁 are those Trans colors I am seeing on Oranges shoulder👀👀👀👀 staring very hard rn
ROBIN'S SO MUCH TALLER THAN WRENCH OUOUIIII Robin and her pathetic tiny husband🧡🩶🧡🩶🧡 I know it's not accurate to their Canon heights but the thought of Robin being a tall queen makes me happy
Also hehe hoho haha I've been thinking of Catboy Bishop and Dogboy Lucky a whole lot recently :3 I wanna try and list off what sort of hybrids I think some characters would be 👉🏽👈🏽
Bishop is just a cat tbh. I can't think of any breeds I'd specifically assign him, so he's just a yellow cat. Definitely a short-haired one, I think he'd have tabby patterns on his tail :3 Honestly Bishop would probably be something else entirely but godamnit my brain has been thinking of animal hybrid au for the crew SOLELY because of the catboy Bishop and dogboy Lucky comment I made a while back.... I need to stay faithful to MYSELF
Lucky took a while for me to pick, at first I wanted him to be a golden retriever specifically I wanted him to have floppy ears. Then I remembered lucky isn't blonde, so I considered him being a German Shephard instead, then a golden retriever/German Shephard mix breed, then a beagle, then a beagle/German Shephard mix, then I finally landed on Shiba inu solely because I wanted him to have a cute curly tail😊😊😊 maybe he can still be mixed with a German Shephard, no reason other than it feels right (for the fluff au at least)
I think it would be really easy to make Captain a wolf- which is why I'm NOT DOING THAT ACTUALLY‼️‼️‼️‼️ I like the thought of Captain being a hawk, specifically a ferruginous hawk cuz that's the largest species :3 (can you imagine how wide captains wingspan is going to be in order to support all of him?! He could never spread his wings while in any building- he would knock everything over! Im suprised he can even close his wings in the first place‼️‼️)
Wrench and Pink are kinda stumping me but hmmmmmmmmm
I kinda want to say Rat for Wrench, but Rats are little sweethearts who love cuddles and affection🥺🥺🥺 they love companionship, and wrench is a little annoying freak (affectionate) (derogatory) (I will get him)
Oh god wait Wrench could be a ferret, a decrepit little ferret. Ferrets have the tinny little shit energy that Wrench has omg
Pink............ hmmmmmmmmm....... thinking about his death fascination...... I wanna say Vulture maybe but ehhhhh there's already 3 characters I think of as avians...... HYENA‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ HYENA PINK ACTUALLY GRRRRR MISCHIEVOUS LITTLE FUCK YEEAAHHH
Dove, Robin, and Rabbit are all really easy picks cuz. Well.
Despite not knowing too much on Max when I saw her design reveal I immediately thought of a Crocodile or Alligator. Bit sure why, maybe it's cuz of the green, or the side shave reminding me of Montgomery Gator, but either way she's a big ole reptile to me (Leaning more on Crocodile than Gator)
I don't know what to think of Captain 1.0 yet or the color trio, though Yellow seems vaugely dogish to me...... or maybe a moth? I could see yellow as a moth, have you seen those pretty Moths with the yellow bodies and pink legs? Gorgeous🩷💛
Ohhh,, poor Bishop 🥺 (Loving the needle idea so much!!) He's not one for sharp objects or things piercing his skin like that,,, Maybe that has something to do with the scars on his face 🤔😉
YESS!!!! MAX REVEAL!!! She's a very cool lady~! 💚😌 I can't wait till we get to see her and Cap 1.0 return in the fic!!
I wont say too much but I think she will appreciate Bishop taking care of Lucky! ^^
👁👁 yes 👁👁 I've had the idea for Orange that she's trans since I first thought of her but I didn't really know how to go about incorporating that without just shoving it in people's faces 😅😅😅 So now she just has a pretty tattoo sleeve on her left :)
Robin and her pathetic ahh Wrench-- Maybe we can make Robin 6'4, as a treat, y'know? 😌 It's what she deserves after being murked in chapter 1
This is what Wrench thinks he looks like but we all know,,, we all know he ain't that good 😔
Tumblr media
ALSO- ANOTHER AU? 👀👀👀 Omg,,, 🥺
Love those ideas so much!!
Captain - Hawk! Bishop - Cat Pink - Hyena Wrench - ferret Rabbit - rabbit (floppy eared) :3 Dove - dove :3 Lucky - PUPPY - Purple - sheep Orange - rat Yellow - moff! - Cap - seagull Max - croc Robin - robin :3
Tumblr media
heheheh just little guys
Here's a bonus Jay aka the dead crewmate Lucky replaced (courtesy of Porsha who jumped on the idea of them being annoying af) Since I took so long,,😅

Fantasy!Bakugo X Shapeshifter!Reader

-gender neutral reader, Bakugo being Bakugo, nothing that suggestive but maybe in part 2?-
The storm was relentless, rain hammered against rock so hard a landslide wouldn't be unexpected. On this particular mountain side, such a thing would pose serious inconvenience to the inhabiter of a certain cave. Your cave, to be exact.
This was one of those freezing nights it was smarter to stay in your larger form, where it was much easier to maintain heat. Not such an easy task for smaller creatures, you understand, which is why you have little problem allowing animals from the nearby woodland to cower in your abode for the night, so long as they stay away from your horde.
The sound of heavy footsteps and erratic breathing draw your attention from the booming thunder that rolls across the hills outside, a larger presence than the critters huddled at the back of your cave.
You've never seen a human this deep in the wilderness.
And it's clear by the look on his face he's never seen a dragon either.
Neither of you make a peep, and neither of you move, an interaction that might be much more intense if the storm didn't slice through any semblance of silence. On a quieter night, you might have eaten him, but the shared sense of fear among the smaller and more helpless has you feeling a little generous. You rest your head back on the cold floor, bringing your tail around the treasure you lay amongst so he doesn't get any ideas.
The blonde glances back at the cave entrance, to the pouring rain and bitter cold. He grunts, oddly annoyed in the presence of such a mighty beast. He should feel blessed.
It's maybe 20 minutes of his teeth chattering as he sits on the floor across from you before you finally lose your patience.
"Would you please be quiet"
He looks at you, stunned, before annoyance flashes through his ruby red eyes again, "you can talk?"
"Watch your tone, you bipedal imbacile."
"Why the fuck did you wait until NOW to say something?" he grumbled, unphased.
Was he being serious?
"You should feel honoured I offered you any words at all, I've already allowed you to take shelter in my home."
"Allowed me? I can take shelter wherever the fuck I want."
Who did this moron think he was? Waltzing into your cave like he owned the place. You stood with one swift movement, clawed footsteps graceful but heavy. It isn't before you stand Infront of him, chest puffed out and head held high that he truly sees your size.
His face doesn't shift from that irritated scowl, but you know fear in the eyes of lesser beings when you see it. He glared upon your scales with disdain, daring to shift his body to better reach his sword.
The familiar and sickening sound of crunching bone and tearing flesh fills the cave as your body quickly disassembles and reforms to a more humanoid shape, still unmistakably reptilian. The fear doesn't leave his eyes, but he readjusts back to his original position.
"What are you?"
"What kind of question is that?" you scrunch up your nose, "I'm a dragon?"
He seems dissatisfied with your response, shifting his weight, "but you look human."
"Have your people really forgotten the stories of old? Do you know how inconvenient it would be to just always be that big?"
The blondes shoulders slumped as he looked you hard in the eye, the eye feeling slightly more casual even with the continued noise outside.
"Nobody's seen a dragon in decades, nobody's talked to one in-" he paused for a moment, "I've never heard of it."
"You can stay if you want," you ignored his pointless musings, "but drop the attitude, you're in my house, and if you bother me I'll throw you back into the rain."
"Whatever," he hissed under his breath dropping most of his things on the ground slightly closer to your horde than before.
He had better not be getting any ideas.
You slink back to the pile of gold and jewels, dim and unimpressive with age. A larger form is better for keeping it safe from the thieving hands of greedy humans.
It's easier to get some rest without the hot tension hanging in the air before, and if not for the storm you might even have managed to get to sleep. If you had, you might not have noticed the blonde subconsciously edging his sleeping bag closer to you, away from the bitter cold.
You slid back onto the ground completely, slotting yourself between him and your precious riches, it just so happened that this action brought you almost completely next to eachother. You were close enough to touch, but it was only to keep his hands from your possessions.
And the wing you gently placed over him was only to stop the irritating sound of his chattering teeth, so you could also get some sleep.

A/N I might write another part if this gets any attention, I was just feeling a little bored

I've already complained a lot about the pacing, and how the film suffers because of it. So now I want to switch gears and talk about some of the stuff I did like (it's a long list!). Putting it under a read more, because of spoilers:
Mario being a protective big brother ❤️
Mario calling Luigi "Lu" (it's no "Weegee" or "Weeg", but it's still cute)
"Nothing can hurt us as long as we're together"
The flashback of the baby bros 😭
Luigi being the one to protect Mario at the end
Mario and Luigi's relationship in general is so incredibly sweet and definitely the highlight of the film for me
Peach is a badass, but she's also cute. Which is exactly how I think she should be depicted
Toad is cute and funny, and I wish we could've seen more of his dynamic with Mario and Peach
Mario and Peach's interactions are cute, even if they're rushed
THE MARIO AND LUIGI HUG WJEHEBEJSUUSUDHSHSBSHSHSJSJ IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN THE LM3 HUG I'M 😭 THE FOREHEAD TOUCH AHWEHEHEHDNJE THEY'RE THE BEST SIBLINGS EVER I WOULD DIE FOR THEM
I like Peach's backstory (even if I have a lot of questions about the circumstances surrounding them crowning her princess). I think it's sweet that she became their protector after they raised her. The idea of her possibly being from Mario's world is also very interesting to me. I hope fanfic writers go nuts with that
Mario having daddy issues is kind of a funny concept to me, but also really interesting, and it's something I'd like to see explored more (probably in fanfics)
I love how sweet and supportive their mom is!
Mario and DK's rivalry is fun
CAT MARIO IS SO ADORABLE SJHWHSJJWJJSSJ I LOVE HIM
Luigi 💚 (literally all he has to do is exist and I love him with all my heart and soul)
Lumalee was funny (even if I wish they'd actually done something with the character)
I was disappointed about Peach not actually using the halberd, but she still gets to beat up Bowser, so I'm not complaining too much
Peaches 🍑
The concept of Bowser being able to play piano is something I never realized I needed in my life (definitely need to incorporate it into a future fanfic)
I love the way they incorporated the game mechanics into the worldbuilding. I want to see what they'd do with other stuff, like 1-ups (like we thought we were getting)
The idea of Mario hating mushrooms is funny
Pauline got a cameo at least
The score was great
The DK Rap being included was funny
It's cool to have official versions of Mario's parents (even if they're probably not canon)
Having Charles Martinet voice Mario's dad was a cute touch (and it makes him saying "these are my boys!" at the end really sweet in a meta way)
I actually liked most of the voices. The only one that remotely bothered me was Cranky, because he doesn't sound old enough, but even then I don't really hate it. Yes, I actually came around to Prattio in the end, so fucking sue me (it helps that his performance is better than in the trailers, and you can actually hear the Brooklyn accent now)
The Bowser's Fury theme playing in one part made me so happy because that's one of my favorite Mario games ever
I loved seeing Mario being insecure and scared! It was really refreshing
This might sound weird, but I actually appreciate them not holding back on the violence in some places. The most notable example is during the climax, when Mario is all bruised up from Bowser beating the shit out of him
As I've said before, the animation is absolutely gorgeous. The expressive character animation and the color choices are what really make it shine
The action sequences are so good! Even just Peach doing the training course was mesmerizing
Peach is just...so nice. People were assuming she'd be a stereotypical girlboss that hates men or some crap, but she really isn't. (I never did; I had faith that they'd get her right.) She waits for Mario to complete his training so he can save Luigi, even though there's a looming threat to her kingdom. She lets Mario go with her even though he didn't complete it, and tries to make him feel better about not getting it on the first try. And she's willing to marry someone she hates just to protect her kingdom (and then tricks him and beats him up). I love her 💖
I like how Peach says "my Toads"; it feels like she's saying "my family" (because they are her family, and she'll never let anything happen to them 🩷)
I already mentioned Mario and Luigi's relationship. But one scene that I haven't seen anyone talk about it when they're in Mario's room after their dad rejects him, and Luigi tries to comfort him. Mario is a great brother in this movie, but so is Luigi 💚
As much as I love Mario x Peach, I'm glad they don't try to force the relationship (outside of other characters shipping them, lol). There's not much time for that to happen--partly because of the pacing, but also because they're both focused on stopping Bowser and wouldn't be thinking much about that anyway. I would like to see some romance between them in a potential sequel, but I also want the development of their relationship to feel natural
Mario finding his strength and confidence through his desire to protect the people he cares about 🥰
They did the "So long gay Bowser" tail swing
The character designs are sooooooo good! Mario and Luigi are precious, Peach is pretty, Bowser looks cool, etc. I love how everyone looks! 👌
Luigi's hair 😏
There's probably more I could add here, but I should probably stop before this post becomes ridiculously long lol. Despite the issues I had with this movie, there's still a lot I appreciate about it. And it made me smile and laugh the whole way through, so that makes it good in my book. It's definitely going to be one of my comfort movies from now on.

Hi! Your works and meta blows me away everytime, i'll always read, you're amazing✨
And I've been wanting to ask, what are your thoughts on Saitama literally being a romantic? (I read this one on Power4Impact's blog, very awesome lol)
Also, I feel like both of them, Genos and Saitama, have the need of touch? Touch-starved would be the word. I'll be so happy the day they finally get to have so lovely contact with another person, without this being harmful, just pure love. Even better if is between them <3
Thank you for the kind words, I try my best to make my meta thoughts compelling to read. :D
About Saitama being a romantic...there's a fair bit of references to this, one of them being found in the audiobooks where he ponders about his relationships with people being broken and he seems jealous even about other people having having happy things like romances and social interactions in their daily lives and when he became a hero, something broke in him. He ponders if he should have this issue more in mind and he sounds so far away when Genos mentions fighting for things that he must protect. Like he has forgotten the very reason why he became a hero.
Such as protecting family, friends and the heroine in the movie they watched.
Saitama: Well... It's a movie. In any case, precisely because he had someone to protect the protagonist didn't give up and tried harder until the end, right? That's where the excitement is after all. Genos: I see... but, if he was in real trouble the enemy could have seen that objecti- Saitama: That's the point of the story! It happens in real life too right?
Genos: I see... I'm writing it down! This means... Sensei had this kind of incident in the past, right? Saitama: Eh? Genos: Fighting for something that you must protect. Saitama: ahhh.... um. Genos: What is the matter? Saitama: Ah? Ah, nothing. Bells ring nearby Genos: Ah! Sensei! Fukin Supermarket is having a time sale! I'm going to check if they have anything we need, I will be back shortly so please wait here! Saitama: Ah? Ok... Saitama: Now that I think about it... I have the sensation I never had that happening. Could say I never paid it any mind either. It's not like I don't especially like it, not a complex either. However, is it really ok? No... can't be ok. Can't help but think it's something I lost In the daily battles towards becoming a hero. Am I supposed to have this issue more in mind? Come to think of it, I didn't really have time to unpack it... if it was a normal guy then...
Saitama: Ummmm... What is this feeling? Am I envious of that guy for living his youth? Mn nah I don't think that's it but, I don't know. It's just that I have the feeling my relationships with people are broken...”
Saitama: That’s not the point... I have the feeling that things like a heart to heart interaction, sharing an umbrella, warmth, are all things broken away in my life. Other people can have things like big events and circumstances happening, romances and such bringing happiness in their daily lives. I have the feeling something broke and that sweet-like fluffy, nice stuff just fell right off from me. That's what I meant.
Saitama: Genos, look, have you ever seen a hero anime without a love interest in it? Genos: I don't remember watching a lot of anime in the past.. Why do you ask? Saitama: Well, we're heroes, right? We're working and living as such. And yet, why are we indifferent towards things like love interests or girlfriends? In some way it seems obvious and logical, but is it really ok? Are you ok with reality being so much harder than fiction?
Saitama is absolutely a hopeless romantic at heart, but when he trained to become a hero, he became apathetic and started to lose his humanity. It is something he still desires though.
But as Genos surmises, such actions can be used by the enemy when they see this is the objective of the protagonist.
Weakness of the heart because he craves for that social interconnectivity. Something that was already used against Garou.
And every action by Saitama on the moon when he protected Genos' core was witnessed by OPM God.
Don't be surprised if this will be used against Saitama.
Anyways, second instance of Saitama showing interest in romance is his decently sized manga collection.
Tumblr media
Saitama has a bunch of manga on his shelf and we cannot obviously decipher what they may contain from the covers alone. I can infer that some covers look kind of pretty though and pastel colours. Girly covers on the right side of the shelf basically, with only seemingly ladies in the spine art. But nothing conclusive really.
Except we know one manga that Genos picks up in OVA 3 season 2 when he has amnesia and then attempts to woo Fubuki.
Tumblr media
This is the kind of stuff Saitama reads on his free time and when he's bored lol.
Shoujo romance manga. xd
Also manga about farting too. That- that as well.
I blame King.
(And King possibly offering romantic advice because he has been playing dating sims too much if Saitama was to ever ask...yaah idk about that one)
However...we may run into an issue with Saitama and romance.
Tumblr media
The back cover of the manga and the underlying text.
"I forgot the ease that I tried to remember"
And the thought bubble spelling "Adjacent Fear 5".
It may be reference to Marianne Morris art Fear Adjacent.
This abstract landscape was inspired by a trek over the Coaticoke Gorge. 50m above the riverbead, the longest suspension bridge in Canada was a highlight on a trip through Quebec. It was as exhilarating as it was terrifying.
Not unlike romance in general. It can be both exhilarating and terrifying prospect at the same time.
Another reference is in the manga page itself, Bad boys Saga, can refer to multiple things. Such as the archetype of bad boy.
The stereotypical "bad boy" was described by Kristina Grish in her book Addickted as "the irresistible rogue who has the dizzying ability to drive women wild" with a "laissez-faire attitude about life and love". An article in The Independent compared the term "bad boys" with men who had a particular combination of personality traits, sometimes referred to as a "dark triad" of Machiavellian traits, and reported that a study found that such men were likely to have a greater number of sexual affairs.
It is not the kind of interaction Saitama wants for with romance. Not like Suiryu, being playboy. But it may be a reference to underlying fear about romance in general.
It may also be a reference to Bad boys films from 1983 or the Bad boys franchise.
In an attempt to retaliate on Mick's behalf, Horowitz creates a bomb by planting fertilizer in a radio that he places in Paco and Viking's cell. When the charge explodes prematurely and only injures Viking, Horowitz is condemned to solitary confinement, a fate he fears more than any other.
Phobia from solitary confinement is another type of fear that can go hand in hand with fear of falling in love.
And one last reference, fear of romance in itself. Fear of falling in love.
Philophobia (from Greek "φιλέω-φιλώ" (love) and "φοβία" (phobia)) is the fear of falling in love. Not included in the DSM-5. The risk is usually when a person has confronted any emotional turmoil relating to love but also can be a chronic phobia.[citation needed] This affects the quality of life and pushes a person away from commitment. A negative aspect of this fear of being in love or falling in love is that it keeps a person in solitude. It can also evolve out of religious and cultural beliefs that prohibit love.[citation needed] It represents certain guilt and frustration towards the reaction coming from inside.
DSM-5 is Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. Just like Fear Adjacent is 5th volume.
A phobia is an anxiety disorder defined by a persistent and excessive fear of an object or situation.[1] Phobias typically result in a rapid onset of fear and are usually present for more than six months.
6 months? What a coincidence. I don't believe in coincidences.
The prophecy that Lady Shibabawa mentioned meant that 6 months from then on, Earth would be in danger. A subconscious fear, like the back cover of the book and something he cannot remember.
A subconscious fear that rose back to the surface when he saw Genos' mutilated form lying on the ground after the fight with Sea King. Because he had started to care about his disciple and seeing him like that had far more effect on Saitama than he even realizes.
That or an onset of said fear that can develop into a phobia. Or that it will.
Also paralleling the passionate soul that Boros seer saw 20 years ago in their crystal ball.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in terms of romance, Saitama may run into issues, that he fears committing to it because he's possibly had a bad experience in the past with any type of love that he has since forgotten and which may have since become a phobia. Notably about losing said love.
More than likely, he fears the solitude that falling in love may cause him if he ever lost the person he loves, like when Genos died on him. Unhealthily coping by trying to attach himself to the last vestige of Genos and his heart.
He may also fear someone pulling the Bad boy act on him and fear people with these traits. Such a person may have been the cause of this underlying fear or perhaps him acting like a bad boy may have been one of the causes of this phobia.
There may also be underlying guilt and frustration.
Often, people can trace their fear or phobia to traumatic childhood experiences. Philophobia may be a protective response. If you don’t allow yourself to develop loving feelings for someone, you lower your risk of heartache and pain.
It would definitely explain why Saitama seems to be showing no romantic inclination towards someone like Genos, who is not shy about telling Saitama that he's amazing person and holds everything about Saitama in high regard. Despite having an actual desire and want for romance, intimacy and heart to heart feelings.
And not showing any commitment, despite apparently caring for Genos to an unhealthy degree when shit hit the fan and he lost him, to the point that these emotions burst out in uncontrollable rage and bust out a hole in space. Just avoiding the issue altogether.
He has forgotten the ease of romance that he tries to remember.
It has probably only gotten worse when Genos died when Garou ripped his core out and killed him, though he does not consciously remember it. The subconscious however, does. The subconscious remembers all the phobias and fears he may have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All expressed here in a very neat package.
"Ge-Genos!! You scared the crap out outta me! You're actually alive!!"
(It's absolutely hilarious to me that Saitama's hero suit is conveying his feelings here by shredding his crotch zone, since his hero suit responds to his desires and feelings as Phoenixman mentioned they do for costumers and it's essentially showing his libido and going like "bro stop doing this to yourself, get some help. Allow me to assist you. Just DO IT!" Saitama's hero suit is bff.)
When you think about it, he does have a pretty excessive reaction to seeing the core on his hand, because he would not have any rational reason to think that Genos is anything but limbless torso but still alive and intact otherwise. At least as much as he consciously remembers.
He might've gotten scared a bit and sought for the cause to verify if it's true or not because having Genos core on his hand randomly is just weird, but not a reaction like this. That face reminds me of the time when Saitama got out of bed during Hammerhead saga and he looked excessively scared then too.
Tumblr media
Every single time Genos gets brought to the brink, the fear from phobia gets more foothold. And so do the reactions from Saitama grow worse.
ONE is very careful to not allow Saitama to see that Genos can actually take care of himself or allow Saitama to protect Genos in situations where Genos gets grievously demolished. Otherwise his fear for Genos safety would lessen considerably. Instead it is much like he's being conditioned into having significant distress whenever Genos ends up destroyed or worse and that there is no way he can actually protect Genos from harm.
Apparently utter disaster romance is also up ONE's writing alley, if the newest trailer for Mob psycho season 3 is to be believed.
Complete catastrophe is looming, it has been prophesied.
(Though prophesies are also a load of hogwash according to Saitama, so it may be Saitama saying it won't happen because there is always a choice)
Though...Genos did pick up the book, so it is very probable that Genos too, has fear of falling in love. Because he fears losing those connections, so as much as he seems to show that he cares a lot, he does not commit completely and tell anybody and keeps other people at arms lenght. At least he has not, so far.
It will be a happy day indeed when these two can actually get some well deserved hugs. Because both have already made their choices to stick by the other. Though it may be a long while yet.

When they face their fears, that is when the rain stops.

My thoughts on episode 3
SPOILERS for season 3, episode 3 of the Animaniacs reboot
No beating around the bush, I LOVED IT!
The first segment was funny and interesting. I love seeing snippets of the Warners' everyday lives. Even if this goes against all the headcanons I held of them. I mean, why would a rambunctious group of kids living together with no rules wake up at 6 AM?!
Tumblr media
Here I am writing this at noon after having woken up an hour ago. Wait, didn't they say something about writers being nocturnal?
Tumblr media
It's consistent with episode 1- "You'll have to wake up pretty early to catch the Warners." followed by "WHO WAKES UP AT 4AM?" (Two hours before when the Warners apparently wake up.)
Wakko's a little cutie in this episode. We finally have a hard number on how much food he eats a day- 20,000 calories. Seems low, honestly.
Tumblr media
When this part happened, I got upset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damn you, narrator! Can't you just let our kids get some sustenance in peace?
I LOVED seeing the Warners pull off some Looney Tunes antics!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This image was really funny to me, with Dwayne's huge teethy smile and profits shooting up around him. I wonder if they knew how topical it would be? Having The Rock in a super hero franchise? (They knew Black Adam would be coming out, but they probably didn't know it would flop.) This season seems to be on point with the pop culture timing so far, as opposed to the first two seasons seeming out of date at times.
Tumblr media
I liked seeing the in-universe realities of toon creation. First, the new toon being born, the pitch failing, and then it just being thrown on the streets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a nice bit of world building for an aspect of their universe they usually ignore, especially in Animaniacs. I mean, if you're writing an Animaniacs fanfiction and you need an original villain, that's the go-to backstory. A toon who was abandoned and thrown on the streets, now jealous of the Warners' success. It also proves that there are toons in that world who aren't famous TV stars and probably just live normal lives. Heck, it proves that probably the vast majority of toons in that world aren't TV stars who made it big. There's far more pitches that fail than pitches that succeed in the animation industry.
And then the very next shot is this, showing the Warners up in their warm, dry tower eating hot food.
Tumblr media
That's... interesting. I feel like it's trying to say something. Like the Warners don't have it that bad compared to most toons. Or that they're aloof in some ways. I wouldn't like the latter, if that's the implication. The Warners are definitely meant to be characters who are among* and sympathize with the downtrodden.
The end of the short asks us to watch Animaniacs, every day. I'm way ahead of you there, buddy.
The Pinky and the Brain segment was good. I liked their dynamic, with Brain being forced to coddle Pinky for once. I also found it hilarious whenever Pinky would get stressed. He takes on such a different personality.
Tumblr media
I liked Brain's impressions. Shoutout to Maurice LaMarche, doing his impression of Orson Welles as the Brain doing poor impressions of Christopher Lloyd and Morgan Freeman while still having it sound like the Brain. Also doing Orson Welles as the Brain doing an impression of Orson Welles. I'm sure I'm far from the first person to have typed that sentence by now.
Tumblr media
The tickle fight was cute. I was honestly grossed out by Pinky sucking on Brain's finger. Their bare little rat hands have always kind of creeped me out.
Tumblr media
So yeah, good segment.
So about the first joke in the next segment, I have a lot to say. First off-
Tumblr media
Wait, sorry, I'm being reminded that this is a SFW blog.
...
...........!!!
I could freak out in all caps, but I know others have handled that for me already. It's what I've been asking for in the reboot. Jokes that make you question if they can say that, if they should say that. Stuff right on the very edge of what's acceptable. Heck, this might not even be on the edge. Some people might say it's over it. I haven't seen the general reaction and I won't for seven more days.
I love how they knew what you'd be trying to look at for the rest of the episode, and in every single frame they carefully obscured the bottom of that poster so you can't see it.
I know my reaction here might be disappointing. Truthfully, I was spoiled on this joke. But while it's what everyone will focus on, I just have to gush about the rest of this segment!!!
For one, the concept in general of the Warners framing fanart is super cute. I was going to write a chapter for Wakko's World exactly along those lines. I was beaten to the punch.
For two, the song is AMAZING!!! WAKKO'S SINGING. GLORIOUS.
I have never dropped an f-bomb on this blog. But
Why the FUCK don't we get to hear Wakko's singing voice more often?! I legitimately got tears in my eyes from how hard I was smiling during his part. It blew me away.
Tumblr media
This song was just so. DAMN. CUTE!!! Their singing, the tune, the antics. It just fills me with a feeling of pure, unadulterated joy on every single listen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Put simply,
Tumblr media
I was going to start this post by talking about how poorly I've been handling being separated from the fandom. This episode gave me so much joy I just couldn't bear to be negative. It blew all of that angst right out of my heart.
My current ranking of season 3 episodes:
Episode 3
Episode 2
Episode 1
This season just keeps getting better as it goes along. It would be funny if this list just ends up being in reverse order of the episode numbers. I would be surprised if episode 3 ends up ranked 8th, though. That would mean this was a season of truly extraordinary TV.
I encourage you to add to the discussion on this post if you have anything to say about episode 3 or the ones before it. Don't say anything (and I mean anything) about any of the episodes after episode 3. Pretend as if you're watching this along with me and haven't even seen the other ones yet.

How do you feel about LMK making it so that the Jade Emperor defeated and passed heavenly judgment over Sun Wukong in Xiyouji?
To be completely honest, it's what made me flip my lid, especially when *spoilers*
They killed the jade emperor??? Not only did they remove Buddha's play in SWK's punishment and made it so that he was simply too weak instead of he was too arrogant, but also killed such an important character in Chinese media that shouldn't be so easily killed? I don't think we were ever meant to root for the jade emperor, but watching that go down had me like
Tumblr media
The scene didn't even have some big fight. The Jade Emperor just said a couple words, took it like a champ and died which undermines his actual importance? Maybe it's the shock that's making me so upset over the questionable choices that the LMK producers made, but I feel like not even the little quips or actually decent animation can cover up.
I understand that this isn't supposed to be a direct copy and paste from JTTW, but to stray so far from the og story and still try to claim representation? I'm really curious about your opinion on it, no hate if it's different I actually want to know and hear you talk about it
I will say... underwhelming...
Like this is probs the first time I've seen a Xiyouji media that has written off Buddha completely like... it just brings up why? Did Flying Bark just really want their next villain to be so strong and powerful that he defeated the one entity that Wukong couldn't? Like??? Did they really try to brush off the religious aspects of Xiyouji where it is about FOUR MONKS (and a dragon) going to the west for BUDDIST SCRIPTURES?? While also meeting Daoist gods so??? Already you can't escape religion buddy... it's in there!
The point of Wukong being taken down by Buddha is to show that he has gone too far. He DEFEATED the Jade Emperor! He was about to kill him and take the throne before Buddha stepped in. Wukong is supposed to be the strongest and could destroy heaven with power alone and that is why he had to be stopped because powerful alone shouldn't dictate who is in charge.
And it just draws more questions considering that Xiaotian even said in one episode that Wukong DID pick a fight with Buddha but a chip was shoved in his mouth so... backtracking??? Rewriting?? What is going on?
This isn't the first media I've seen where Heaven/Jade Emperor is the bad guy, though in most cases he is just a guy doing his job cause SOMEONE keeps destroying the peach gardens, but I wish there was more nuanced with this. A lot of past iterations make it that Wukong is a freedom fighter trying to overturn heaven and those could be really good! Shows that Wukong is sticking up for the people of Earth and hates that the people of Heaven are walking all over that. He demands justice in an injustice world and has the power to make them be heard.
But it looks like Flying Bark was trying to go for that angle but also... it is kinda falling flat considering that they have already shown heavenly deities on the side of their heroes and so far no antagonist demons have been in the "right." Like they can't just backtrack and say "wait heaven bad guy?" If they are trying to make it that both Heaven and Earth have areas of moral grey then killing off the head of the Heavens with a "But wait there's more" is a very... clumsy way of depicting that.
I know Flying Bark did it for the sake of "Drama" but really feels more like a cope out just not to depict Buddha in a lego form or something inane like that.
I've kinda emotionally checked out of LMK for my own sake and while I still watch it and want it to have a satisfying ending I can't really say I'm on the edge of my seat for it either. It just feels like they are always trying to hype up more than they can deliver and I rather just be met with a simple 'that was fine' than get my hopes up in more disappointment.

Answering asks #1
I just finished answering all the asks I had piled up on my main blog, so imma do the same thing here! The time has come... So basically this post will just be me answering every remaining ask I still had lying around in my inbox on this blog! Enjoy!!!
Adventure Time Related Asks
Tumblr media
(in reference to the Fionna and Cake finale)
You see I get what you mean, but for me it's less to do with time and more to do with what they spent the time they had doing. I really don't understand why AT feels the need to shove Shermy and Beth into everything. Also I really don't understand why they thought the best way to make a grown ass 50-something year old man who survived the apocalypse and 1000 years of trauma learn that his relationship wasn't perfect was through a video game. And I really don't understand why the crew thought the best way to showcase this was to literally spell it out to the audience like we are toddlers (especially since F&C is supposed to be for an older audience apparently). I agree with the conclusion, but I really hate how it was executed.
Tumblr media
@samhadjblog2 I completely agree with this! I like what the show was going for, again I completely agree with the conclusion it came to, just the way it got to said conclusion was incredebly underwhelming and frustrating for me T_T (also big agree on Simon's main flaw being his insecurities and how passive he was in his relationship with Betty, to a point where he didn't do enough to prevent her from hurting herself)
Tumblr media
@wintercandle42 Honestly I'd die for a fic that goes into scenarios I've explored in my own Ice King analysis posts and while I rly appreciate the offer I generally only work with friends or creators I'm already fimilar with! Even so, I rarely collaborate in general T_T. I'm sorry, but ty for offering!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To answer your questions anon and @xfriki26 I've actually recieved a few asks about this on my main blog, you can find my response in this post!
Tumblr media
I feel really bad for not answering these asks earlier, because I made ppl who had so much interesting stuff to say/tell me like anon here wait for so long. I'm sorry T_T! In any case, while I didn't intend this AU to parallel the experiences of ppl who deal with DID, I'm really happy to hear you felt seen anon! Even if it wasn't my intention, it's rly cool when ppl find stuff to relate to in art I make :'D
Tumblr media
@mossdealer thank you so much!!! I love love love your username btw...
Tumblr media
I think transitioning could save her!!!
Tumblr media
@earthnicity You have my full permission to roleplay it and write fics abt it etc. XD I honestly don't mind at all! In fact it's welcome!
Tumblr media
YOUR MIND ANON YOUR MINDDD. You're onto something...
Miscellaneous Asks
Tumblr media
Anon, not to be James "Mr. Plagiarism" Somerton but I'm stealing this. (it's so funny I love that)
Tumblr media
Yes!! I love indie animation (indie anything rly)
Obviously I'm fimilar with the big two (The Amazing Digital Circus Helluva Boss) however my favorite indie animated series are actually The Vampair Series, Threnody and ENA !!! Ofc, I also love watching indie short films or other such shorter animations on YouTube (I actually have a playlist of some of my favorite animations/animatics on YouTube if you wanna check that out)
Oh and I'm following the development of One of The Powerful! It's a series made by only one person, and those ones always impress me so hard. (if you are interested the creator recently made a series development blog on Tumblr! @oneofthepowerful)
Honestly, one-man-team type animated series are super cool to me. Sch Ribbit is another artist/animator who made their own series just out of their sheer passion, and he was always a huge inspiration to me growing up! (an example of stuff they'd make is their Jaden Unshaked series. even though it's scrapped and a bit old, I still find it super cool!!)
But yeah I love indie animation!
Tumblr media
@the-rumbybagg-cake I don't play Minecraft and I never watched any Minecraft YouTubers! I also rarely watch gaming YouTubers in general, so nope!
Tumblr media
Weeeell one of my usernames online is Krejzac (made up word that uses worldplay to fuse Croatian and English, and that basically means crazy person)- so that checks out!
Tumblr media
Thank you for asking anon! I've def been doing better lately! Gonna be real, late fall/early winter wasnt the kindest to me (I was sick for a long while and then the seasonal depression hit where I wasn't going outside at all, and till relatively recently I was barely socializing and was just girlrotting in bed all day. A mix of social battery dying out but also generally feeling rly drained), but I do feel a lot better now! I'm getting back on track. Hence why I've finally felt able to answer all the inbox messages lol! But fr ty for asking ;w;!
Tumblr media
@kajakay TYSM!! Very kind of you :'D!! Though I mostly post clean sketches on this blog haha, I don't rly post a ton of stuff with lineart XD I think it's rly funny (but also feeds my ego) when ppl say they like my lineart and then point to my clean sketches. Don't get me wrong I love to hear it!! TYSM!!
Tumblr media
@cloudbustingss (I assume this ask is refering to this fiasco) Yea you are correct! I know I shouldn't respond to angry randos blowing up at me over nothing, I generally avoid it. I just felt like I needed to in that instance, mostly to make other ppl aware in the fandom that "hey if all it took for this person to blow up and start being transphobic and just generally cruel was a drawing of a GNC cishet couple, they'll likely be even worse if they encounter actual trans art or art made by trans ppl, probably block them if you wanna avoid them doing this to you". But yeah usually I avoid responding to ppl like this, I've been online for long enough to know it's not worth it (I've learned through trail and error XD I used to respond to everything when I was younger. Tbh I'm still learning to control my "I wanna respond to this mean person" impulses but I'm getting better I think!) In any case, I appriciate the advice ty!! ;w;

Chapter 29: Bittersweet
[TW: MENTIONS OF LOSS]
Hey guys! I can't believe I'm one chapter away from the big 3-0 of my story! It still blows me away hoe far this story has come and I have you all to thank!
I've been chomping at the bit to write this chapter and the next as they're the stepping stones to something super exciting! I hope you all enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Without further delay, let's jump in!
Tumblr media
-------------
The sun is now high in the sky as we had finally gotten to Junk Food Alley after having to take a breather. I didn’t want to, I just wanted to get some food and get back to the hospital, but having world upending information dropped onto you like a metric fuckton of dynamite into your brain tends to make one need to sit down to process everything.
After our orders were placed and a small wait, Crow and I sat at a table while Mako’s getting our food. There’s a bit of an awkward silence between us as aside from the Corrodium conversation, we really didn’t have much to talk about and if I’m to be honest? I don’t think my brain can handle any more surprises.
I fidget with my hands as I pop electricity between my fingertips. Crow doodles on her pants with a permanent marker. Interesting choice of relaxation but I’ve seen weirder.
“Do I know you from somewhere…?” I hear Crow pipe up, I turn my head towards her and tilt it.
“Do I look familiar?” I question. Crow’s about to answer, but Mako returns with the food and the question is quickly dropped in favor of the carnival snacks. I take mine and thank Mako for getting it before taking a couple of bites and everyone else tucks in.
The funnel cakes are perfect, golden brown, crisp to perfection and the powdered sugar piled high wraps it up with a nice bow. The churros are equally delicious and crunchy, the sweetness of the sugar and the spice of the cinnamon dance on my tongue. Both carnival snacks hit the spot when it comes to my sweet-tooth.
Yet… Even with as good as they are… I struggle to fully enjoy my food as I poke the funnel cake with a churro. My mind too busy trying to process everything to truly savor the food the way it deserves.
It feels like the onslaught of thoughts is never-ending, I’m drowning in a sea of new information and the waves crash me into rocky crags and cliffs before pulling me back out into the deep just to do it again. All of this while I’m trying to swim for my damn life. Desperately trying to sort out everything, make sense of it.
In the maelstrom, a familiar question rings out once more. Questions of twisted minds and warped bodies. What corrupts what. Does the power itself corrupt or is it merely a catalyst for something already there?
Now there’s a new variable, Corrodium. An element that turns this question on its head.
Typically when this question comes up, I think of those whose powers twisted them. Sasha driven mad, Alden in his rage… Even I’m twisted by my own power. Blood red eyes glare out when I’m angry, my skin desaturates to a sickly pale when about to unleash the full salvo of my power on whatever unlucky bastard decided to royally piss me off.
Yet now, with this Corrodium, there’s something that can turn a half-way decent person into a monster. It’s the body breaking the mind.
The only thing I can recall that could do anything remotely close to what Corrodium does was that bug-bastard Bertrand. Using his powers to turn people into those Swamp things, nothing more than feral animals that imprint on the first person they see. This Corrodium shit? It makes that seem like a kindness.
The worst part? This is a metal, a physical thing with no will or motive. Something that was either made by accident or, what I’m more inclined to believe, made on purpose. Or it’s something that’s natural and mined from the goddamn ground.
Feels like every time I’m starting to get an iota of an understanding of a Conduit’s power and its connection to their humanity, something else comes up and pulls the rug right out from under me.
And to top it all off, there’s a slight… Undercurrent of anger, a fury towards feelings I don’t understand, but it quickly gets washed away by another crashing wave of confusion.
I can hear the girls chattering away, but my mind is so full of… Well, everything… That I really can’t process what they’re going on about. I can hear Crow giving Mako hell about not giving me a “Wildlander 101” and how Bear taught her better while Mako tries to appease the irritated Water Conduit with a promise of rectifying that situation later tonight. Great… More information for my already overclocked brain to process, information I should have known in the first place apparently.
Better late than never I guess, but I will have a stern talk with the Shark later as I thought we had addressed this very problem back in Droptown.
I stare down at my half-eaten funnel cake as I poke at it with a churro, every now and again taking bites of the fried dough stick. More chatter… Mako has a boyfriend? Huh… Good for her, I guess. Hope she gets to spend time with him, whoever he is.
A squeal rips through the air as I am mid-bite on my churro, ripping me out of my mental fog and nearly making me choke. I look with wide eyes to see what the hell she’s screaming about.
Shining in the sun, a familiar shape wraps around Crow’s ring finger. A band of silver that appears to be marbled with something I can only describe as solid light, glowing a warm gold. There’s no doubting what it is, and the sight of it brought a pain that made the searing blast of the Ray Sphere and the absolute agony of the RFI ripping me apart feel like soothing balm.
An engagement ring…
All I can do is stare at the band as Mako starts gushing about the metal ring and Crow explains about how some guy named “Ezra” proposed to her in a sunflower field. I can’t make out any other details as the sound of static starts to rise in my ears.
I slouch back in the chair as the girls continue on about the prenuptials. My eyes can only stare ahead as the static drowns out everything. I can feel my heart pound and ache, my mind begins to race faster than before, then comes the laughter.
The cruel, mocking laughter.
His voice cackles as my hand slips into a pocket, my fingertips ghosting over the surface of a small, smooth box. I didn’t need to pull it out, I knew what it is by heart. I have pulled it out countless times before on cold, unforgiving nights. A relic of a time that will never come to pass, a reminder of what that bastard took away from me. Of a life robbed.
The ring I would have proposed to Trish with in Memorial Park on our anniversary.
Memories flicker before my eyes like a flipbook: of all the good times we shared through the years, all the grueling and hellish extra hours and shifts I pulled in my courier job just so I could save up enough money to buy the ring, the nights I stayed up… Fretting, planning, even practicing with a chair as a stand in so I could make the moment absolutely perfect for the woman who would be my forever.
Then come the memories of my world falling apart: of the Blast, of how Trish blamed me for her sister’s death because just because some TV jacker said I was the one who set the bomb off… Of hearing her scream as she fell to her death… How I couldn’t save her… And then his face. A decrypted mirror of my own, laughing at my misery.
It didn’t help that the woman with the ring looked so much like Trish…
“My my, what a beautiful ring.” That damned voice hisses in my ear. My body instinctively tenses, my jaw locking and biting down as my arms fold across my chest. “It’s a shame, really. If you had just followed the path I had set for you, you wouldn’t be seeing this.”
“Shut up, old bastard.” I growl back in my head, trying my hardest not to curl my lips and bare my teeth.
“Poor little boy.” He snickers. “You could have had peace, but you decided to be a defiant little shit. Now this is the price you must pay. I’m just here to remind you.”
“You don’t deserve happiness and you never will, you forfeited it the moment you dared to step out of line.”
The voice echos as I quietly scoff at the girls’ joy, whatever good mood I had now drained, leaving bitterness in its place. I roll my eyes at Mako squealing about god knows what when something catches my eye. Something very out of place hiding under a balloon stall. Something with white fur and ruby eyes.
… Is that a fucking rabbit? With antlers??
Confusion overtakes me as I look around. Nobody seems to notice this prey animal with headgear under the stall even though the jade white fur makes it stand out like a sore thumb against the shadows and the red dirt. I couldn’t help but to shake my head and rub my eyes to see if maybe I am actually going insane, but nope. That rabbit’s still there
“Hey uh… Sorry to interrupt the wedding talk…” I blurt out as I turn to face the girls who have apparently been staring at me for a bit. “But… Do you see that weird-ass rabbit?”
“Pardon me?” Crow questions with a look of confusion, oh god, she probably thinks I’m out of it.
“Yeah, there’s a rabbit under that stall just staring at us.”
The two girls lean over to where I’m pointing as I silently hope they could see it, a confirmation that I’m not going crazy. The two girls look at each-other before giving the other knowing glances. My eyes narrow as Mako looks at me with a Cheshire smile.
“Well? Better go catch it!” She says with a coy tone. I give her a questioning look before looking back at the rabbit again and…
Did that fucker just stick its tongue out at me? Oh it’s fucking on, Thumper!

Storytime about Why I Personally Like Jotaro's Character
Tumblr media
I think it's safe to assume that 90% of us ocean man simps (and/or the 11k followers of the joot tag) had to have hated the guy in the beginning, only to watch p4 and say "hold on wait a minute I'm feeling sumn" and then go back to p3 and say "oh shit hold up".
'cause when i first started p3, i remember jotaro calling holly a bitch and that led to my first impression of him: "Oh so if jonathan was the gentleman jojo and joseph is the wacky jojo, this is the edgy jojo. I'm sure I won't like him at all with that attitude".
let me tell you... i hate assholes. antagonists. absolute douchebags. the too obnoxious men, and edgy men for the sake of being solely edgy.
and i kind of had the same feeling of him throughout the first few episodes, and then the more the plot went, the more I got to see bits of his subtle heart of gold personality come through and I thought to myself "no way but he's still an asshole, why am i beginning to not hate him at all?"
but I couldn't bring myself to hate the guy when in certain moments he brings up his dorky one-liners, the tiny curl that forms his seldom smiles, his general badassery. So at the very least I now respected the dude by the end of p3.
And then p4 happened.
Oh man. Did 4taro do something because damn, this version of him was what got me simping for the man.
Idk what happened but right at the beginning of ep 1, I see him in that taxi in his white fit and immediately, I disregarded the sudden art change and already vibed with the first scene of jotaro in that moment.
and i was greatly confused to say the least. I've been keenly aware of my tastes in fictional men and so far before joots, they were often very.....
Tumblr media
let's just say... "young anime boy" visuals.
LISTEN. Don't ask why Kirito is here; I was still in middle school when he became my fictional crush eye-
anyways-
soon after, even if i was enjoying josuke and his friends in their slice of life shenanigans, i admittedly looked forward for scenes where joot would be in it, got excited when he does something cool and badass, and just appreciate him just vibing silently in the background, probably thinking a million things at once- the murderer, his thesis, the stand arrow, his job etc.
cue to the end, and I really like like jotaro at this point. As in the "holy shit... my new fictional mans?" like.
I was in denial. Because no- Just no??? How did this happen?
Was it because he grew out of his angsty rebellious teen phase, and into this now mature professional, Stand expert, and mentor who's learned how to not be excessively rude while still keeping true to himself as seen in his stoicism, intelligence, and badass nature?
and then to realize he was a DILF in p6?? And a divorced man??? And that he explicitly shows the audience his feelings towards his family for the first time???
Oh man. I was never too into dilfs... but-
So I rewatched p3 scenes again and there I was able to like 3taro as much as 4taro and 6taro. I grew to notice more of his very subtle character amidst the rebellious façade- using that big brain of his in fights, the way he has fun with the crusaders by doing party tricks, the more amount of smiles he does that i failed to notice at first watch, understanding why he shouts at certain women, the utmost care and love he has for his friends and family and how much he'll go through just to keep them safe.
I even grew to love the rugged, buff design of 3taro, which I now admit is kind of a favorite now along with 4taro.
Ultimately, I like jotaro because even though he gives off a very bad first impression, you get to watch his character go through a bunch of events throughout the parts, and see how other bits of his sides and personality surface, develop, and change the more he grows in experience and age.
Idk if it's just me, but I am a sucker for quality character development and jotaro shows exactly that- from being a rebellious delinquent who walled his vulnerabilities behind a rude mask, to a wise mentor-figure who knows better than to be impulsive and rash, to a caring father who'll sacrifice the universe and himself for his only child to live.
holy shit this was l o n g but I needed to get this out of my system because my god, I love this man sm.
and i know i have ranted about this before, but istg, the dudebros be literally seeing jotaro's personality as nothing but a man who's misogynistic and simply punches his enemies to a pulp to solve the issue, without realizng that he has to think of ways of getting closer to the enemy in the first place. Hence why yall shallow mfers think he's a bland protagonist with the emotions of a brick wall smh.

Thoughts from watching the ATLA live action!
Episode 2:
So I guess no intro every episode? A shame, but understandable (we literally got it twice in the first one lmao). Hopefully it's back in season 2!
Ah, so this is the aforementioned diary related hissy fit I've been hearing so much about! It is pretty funny tbh lol. Anyway, no, Iroh, Zuko had it right actually lmao, Aang is a coward! It's just... A bit strange to include that here given that his biggest running away incident isn't present in this show? So like. Yes, animated Aang absolutely is a coward, as to this one? It remains to be seen ig, so far he isn't that much, actually, which just makes Zuko seem wrong when in the animated show he would've been 100% correct
OwO what's this??? An Aang thats being proactive and interested about learning and how to control and best use his powers??? You love to see it.
Alright so. Truly I don't know what people are talking about in regards to Katara? Her sense of adventure and tendency to get in trouble while doing reckless things is still absolutely present- those are also important things about her, not just being angry and nurturing! This is a Katara that presents and composes herself differently, and yeah, it's a bit strange! But she still feels like Katara, just... A quiet Katara! She's much less out there with her emotions, which. I do miss a bit ngl, but it's a really interesting direction for her that feels like it's inevitably gonna lead to a major explosion, probably around the time of TSR too! So idk, its really not as big of an issue to me as it seems to be to other people ig. She and Aang were changed a lot- with Aang I do think it's absolutely a positive change because I hate him in canon, but with Katara I just think it's really interesting and worth giving a shot to because it doesn't seem wholly out of pocket or to be leading nowhere, not when you know that her highest emotional points still lie in wait and might, in fact, hit harder if they were a complete deviation from normal to this otherwise calm character. It may still flop and fail, but I genuinely do thing they're building up to something with her and that it's worth giving a chance to.
Kanna once again being the goat!! Idk that I talked much about her during the last episode but I think it was mostly just because I didn't really have any notes lol, I just enjoy her expanded role a lot! The entire legacy of the southern bending being lost in favor of the northern one is a thing I've seen talked about a lot, so I actually really like that there's at least one moveset from the southern style that's preserved here. Of coursing losing "I'll save you from the pirates" is a great personal loss, but I've already seen The Scarf scene so I'm glad at least there was a more or less equivalent replacement lol
Burying Gyatso is a great addition!!!
Blasphemy!!! No such thing as "chicken"!!! What is this abomination Sokka speaks of here???
God everything about Kyoshi Island, including Suki, is just... 😍 I really do love that this Aang is capable of like. Relating to others, being understanding and persuasive and cautious. It's certainly like. A whole different person aside from brief moments of silliness and levity, but it works much better for me because, again, this is a level he never reaches in the original even at the end of his story even though he SHOULD'VE.
Iroh is fr so weird with how direct he is, I just. Can't get used to it- literally his only eccentric quality atm is being a bit of a gourmand, it feels really off. For all his talk about being able to know how to talk to people to get what you want, Zhao sees through him super quick, because like, c'mon, literally who wouldn't??? It was super obviously a lie and. It's all so bizarre, he feels WAY too serious for this point in the story and it genuinely really takes me out of every scene he's in.
As weird as it is for Suki to still get offended when Sokka respects her position and calls her a warrior, the Sukka here IS really funny and fun to watch haha!
Katara is genuinely so sweet with Aang here, idk I just really enjoyed that scene! Do kinda wish we'd get to see Katara drop her water orb lmao, I keep waiting for it to happen and it just never does. She IS a natural prodigy, but I think the original show demonstrated a bit better how much she struggled without any guidance by having her fail her forms rather than just fail to get anything to happen.
It's the intro air scooter scene!!!! Also I'm really enjoying how Katara's right here about Aang being good with people, and how I noticed it myself as well!
Suki trying to flirt with Sokka is so cute oml
Aang being TOO powerful and unable to control his bending is actually such a good idea!!
Omg finally Iroh feels like Iroh!! Who knew all that was needed was literally just for him to talk in Pai Sho metaphors again lmao. Tbh, maybe just literally ANY metaphor whatsoever was missing, oof
Interesting to have Suki take off her makeup right before battle, or like. At all during her first appearance! Not really like, bad or good, just an interesting choice I felt was worth mentioning because it certainly hit me as very different
Hey, uh, Kyoshi babe, you're 100% correct and I enjoy seeing you yelling some sense into Aang but. This is the wrong Aang for this??? Like he literally never ran away it's so bizarre how they keep acting like he did when the original was all too happy to drop that angle when he consistently did. Idk it kinda feels like him not technically running away was maybe like a last minute rewrite or something? It's weird and doesn't gel with how people keep treating it- especially Kyoshi, who was there and should know he legitimately had no intent on turning back from his duties at any point. I love love LOVEE this scene but? It doesn't fit in this version of the story, sadly
Wait why the fuck can Kyoshi see the future?? This is so weird, like I get that it's his call to action and a way of pointing them to the NWT given that they haven't really talked about going there yet but. It's a really weird power for her to suddenly have lmao (unless this is a thing in the novels? I wouldn't know, haven't read them, but somehow I feel like I would've heard about it)
Can I just say that I really like Yukari, and in particular her relationship with Suki? She's a fine addition to this arc imo, and really supports the whole "young people lead the charge on making a difference". Kyoshi Island's motivations for staying neutral in the animated show were of course understandable, but I like that here we can see there's a real conflict about it even before the gaang arrive there. It really endears Suki in a whole new way (tbh she's generally amazing here) and it will make it a lot more natural when we see her again in the following seasons! Also my own personal selfish wish is for the show to find a way to make her a part of the gaang for longer and earlier on. Like, as it stands, if there are three seasons, she might show up once again in season 2 and obviously join up with them in season 3 but. Boy do I want to see more of her, always have, always will! This show is genuinely such a prime opportunity to integrate her more info the story- make her have meaningful relationships with each member of the gaang, establish a role for her and what unique thing she brings to the group (special mention as always to @emletish-fish 's Stalking Zuko for having her be "the sensible one" which worked great)... Just. Make her matter for once, because I will never forgive nor be able to get over the way her existence was just completely ignored and essentially erased in LoK. Suki has always deserved better, right down to the way she was constantly brought back each season because everyone loved her, and I want this show to better reflect that that the absolute nothing she was given in LoK. Suki is a member of the gaang and she deserves to be treated as such, not just as Sokka's girlfriend.
Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled post!Sokka pissing off Zhao while using Suki's fan is something that can be so personal... Like, I can get into the symbolism here about the connection between these characters but. For anyone who knows where the show is going, there are no words necessary to understand why that interaction carries the weight it does. It's just... A beautiful, emotional little moment amidst some really solid fighting choreography! Of course Suki and Sokka working beautifully together was great, Yukari's fighting highly suggests she was a Kyoshi Warrior in her time as well (is... Kyoshi leadership a nepotism/family thing? Questions to ask.), and Momo getting involved were all great, but. That was really the highlight for me. It would be really impactful to anyone who knows, and to anyone who doesn't it's still just like. A really kickass Sokka moment
Also may I just say I'm very impressed with how far Sokka's come in less than two days? Like, of course it's probably not very realistic, but it absolutely supports what they're getting at here which is that Suki IS a great leader and teacher (the short scene with her looking over the other warriors' training and correcting their form was great), and that Sokka is ultimately just as competent a fighter as Katara and has the same natural talent and drive. Their little exchange about nonbenders having to work harder and be better felt very... Real in a way I can't quite express, and it felt like a very important thing that deserved to be acknowledged by the show. Sokka gets underestimated so much and reduced so frequently to being the meat and sarcasm guy, even by himself, so like. Sokka's arc is very important to me because of how often it goes unnoticed or unmentioned in the face of other, more visible ones... And I feel like they're doing a great job at adapting it, slightly modernizing him ("tastes like chicken" notwithstanding) and making him stand out more while keeping the core of it. Sokka's arc was something I was already slightly concerned with initially, and the "we're removing Sokka's sexism" rumors didn't help assuage my fears given how important it was to help set the stage for the kind of person he is, so like. Genuinely I have to give them kudos for finding a way to take it out and keep how he changes and what we ultimately learn about him as a character that didn't feel forced. This is kind of just? A great episode for all of the characters, they all flow much better individually and with each other, and I genuinely really enjoyed it for the most part as opposed to the first that was a bit stilted in a lot of places- but I guess it being mostly just. All of the exposition and Aang's backstory stuff was the issue, and when they let the characters just... Be, it all works really well!
Oh my god Kyoshi is. Doing so much heavy lifting here, literally where was my girl for the entirety of the animated show, that Aang needed some major reality checks lmao. This is... A lot for the second episode when Aang is genuinely just still trying to get a handle on things, but I don't know that I really... Hate how she's preparing him and establishing the stakes? She's an absolute hardass here, but she's not overly cruel- she's genuinely trying to help as much as she can in her own area of expertise, because who knows when she'll next get to talk to Aang, and what if he never gets to hear this stuff? Would he just... Perhaps turn into who animated Aang did? Like, it's extremely harsh and kind of feels excessive for where the show and Aang are at right now, but... Genuinely I can't really say it's a bad thing for Aang to hear all of this, because I only know what happens in the universe where he doesn't. It's fucking tough to watch little Aang be verbally beaten down like this, but? Ultimately, what Kyoshi is saying are important things that Aang needs to come to understand sooner rather than later, and she IS trying to help, even if her way is harsh, so I can't really fault her for it too much because like. I understand where she's coming from all too well, both as someone who watched the original show and thus is aware of how tough the road ahead is going to be for Aang and everyone around him, and as someone who is a big OG Aang critic and wishes he could've heard all of this in the animated show. It's... A difficult scene to watch, but I don't think it's entirely without merit.
Holy shit I can't believe they kept Zuko trying to appeal to Katara even though they took out the pirates, I was genuinely surprised by that!!
Oh. OHHH. So. I was right about where they were going with Katara, wasn't I? I was fairly certain about it before, but how meek and unsure she is in battle despite how powerful she already is followed by a trauma flashback really cemented for me that they're leaning pretty heavily into the different ways Katara was affected by losing Kya. She's still very protective of her loved ones, she's still brave and powerful and driven... And, more than ever, she's also haunted by her mother's spirit with every step she takes. She's more afraid and cautious than her animated counterpart ever was, and it translates to her being "a doormat", but it's also... So clear to me she absolutely is not staying that way. This is the start of her journey, and it's just as valid as the original one. Seeing her stand against Zuko in the original show was never something that would've caused me to worry, but here I can feel her fear and how much it's holding her back.
Also, in their confrontation scene: Zuko is SCARY here! And that made this scene like. Genuinely really special to watch? Because I didn't even know that I was capable of finding Zuko intimidating anymore- he was always genuinely so honorable in the original that when rewatching you can kinda just... Very easily chalk his whole thing up to being misguided and lost- he does bad stuff, but when compared to the ruthlessness of the other villains he's barely a threat. But here Zuko is desperate, and he's scary, and he truly feels like a big bad evil guy when he's towering over non other than Katara who we so often get the best of him to the point where you kinda forget they weren't always matched in power and... This scene just. Really works for both of them individually, to show where they're at mentally and how they clash at this point in time... And, honestly? Knowing that this is an extremely temporary dynamic for them is actually really cool- that the next time they fight may very well be when Katara beat him? It's really cool. It doesn't scream Zutara, not at all, not in the way "I'll save you from the pirates" did, but? It feels important for them to have it, still- the Zuko and Katara dynamic always advances both of their individual stories, and this time is no different. It's... A bit hard to put into words just how visceral this scene felt and how excited it made me for both of their character arcs, as well as to the progress they're gonna make together, but. This was a great scene
Ngl it's really funny how everyone is flying in this adaptation
God I already miss Suki :(
Not really... Sure about why Sokka changed him mind about sticking Aang when he mostly hung out with Suki this episode, it seems mostly like he and Katara just want some more adventure, which is cool and not an issue at this point but? The episode seems to try and imply they're both there for Aang or for the world when it's pretty clear that isn't quite it, not yet, so it feels like it comes out of nowhere and a bit out of place. I do wish that angle was allowed to be a bit more present, because so far it just feels like either the characters are unaware of it yet or that the writing isn't and thus it's never gonna get addressed. In the animated show Katara was much more obviously self interested during parts of the first season, and Sokka was mostly there for her- which I liked, it gave room for both of them to grow into this new family unit they're creating with Aang over the course of the show! Here it seems like both of them initially wanted to help Aang and found they liked the adventure, and their goals on this adventure often feel a bit inconsistent? Katara is very obviously enjoying the freedom, but she seems to be more willing to go along for wherever because the plot aligns to make things she achieved herself on her road to becoming a master waterbender just... Happen to her? She didn't aquire the waterbending scroll, she didn't suggest and advocate for going to the NWT, they're just things that happen and suit her goals really well! In that sense she feels a bit less driven, as she doesn't have to be- she's obviously dedicated to training and becoming better, but she less creates opportunities rather than fall upon them, which? I'd find it a bit hard to buy this Katara stealing, and I guess maybe she doesn't suggest the NWT because as established they don't know what state its in and she's a bit more risk averse than in the original, but... While her taking less initiative isn't necessarily a bad thing here (again, so long as it is a part of her arc rather than a continuous state), it muddles her motives a bit and serves to make the group dynamic a bit confusing. Is she there for Aang? For adventure? For waterbending? For herself? Of course it's ultimately all of those, but. I think presenting all of them right at the start makes her motivations a bit too confusing, especially when paired with Sokka who, in this order: wanted to abandon Aang out of caution, wanted to help Aang because it'd be the right thing to do, wanted to abandon Aang because he wanted to go back home, and then after hanging out with Suki for an entire episode was suddenly worried about leaving Aang alone. Their connection didn't really deepen in any way, so it feels like his motivation is much less about Aang but about what he could gain, except he doesn't frame it like that either! Idk it's confusing, and genuinely I can't tell if it's just. Bad/inconsistent writing or if it's meant to be A Thing, like, Katara and Sokka trying to find their reason for "abandoning" home. I can certainly twist the events to be that if I think about it enough, as I just did, but... Ultimately I do think there was a bit of a failure here with presenting too many motivations and not committing to any single one. It's both way too complex, and also not complex enough to work, and so in the end it's just confusing. It's truly not that big a deal but the conversation at end of this episode on Appa didn't feel authentic or earned to that episode I just saw, which was the real issue imo. I desperately hope this isn't the end of these two trying to justify their journey, and that thus turns out to have been intentional, but frankly... I do just have a feeling it was a bit of unfortunate mangled writing.
That said, I'm actually not really feeling Zhao? I've read a post that said he gets progressively more hateble as opposed to the original where he started out as immediately hateble so I'm curious if that's what's gonna happen to me too! It was cool to see Ozai though for sure haha!
I do have to shout out the way Iroh and Zhao interact with this forced politeness as something that stood out to me in an extremely good way- it's stilted, and awkward, and it's 100% meant to be, and it worked fantastically with the contrast to Zuko's being so direct and brash. I'm not like, an expert by any means, but I do have an interest in Japanese culture and it definitely felt reminiscent of the way respect and politeness is so important and entrenched in the culture right down to the language structure- it felt a bit like Zuko was just talking casually until Iroh came along and started talking in keigo, if that makes sense to anyone? Might be talking out of my ass here but that's what it reminded me of so I thought I'd mention it. It was really interesting to see regardless!
Anyway I liked this episode a lot more! It still had its issues, but they feel more like growing pains here if that makes sense? There's definitely a sense that this show is slowly getting comfortable in its own skin as a separate entity from the original, so I hope that trend continues! Evidently the direction they're going here is not for everyone, but everything I've seen so far does feel extremely like it ultimately came from fans who have their own opinions on the original show rather than people just looking to make bold new twists. A lot of the changes here, while they might initially feel blasphemous, are also ones I'd have made to the original, and the ones that aren't don't feel like they're made thoughtlessly. I'm not happy with everything I've seen so far, but I'm absolutely excited to keep watching because I genuinely do have faith in this show managing to pull off the big swings they're taking.
Also, I think it's important to note- I'm the biggest Kataang hater, I hate them, truly, I do! And yet as strange as it is and as much as I hate to admit it? There was a genuinely cute scene between Katara and Aang this episode, and if they make their relationship a bit more equal going forward... While it likely still won't make me ship them, I do genuinely think I could stomach seeing them end up together if they stay away from the worst aspects of the ship in the original show. I won't be happy about it, ever, but. There's something to be said for them managing to make it tolerable even for the biggest opposers of the ship. I still hope it won't happen! But if it does... I hope it's done tastefully and in a more thought out way than it was originally.

I suppose you already saw the new DC Gods and Monsters announcement by gunn. What are your opinion and speculations?
Anonymous asked:
Commentary on James new DCU plans ?
At long last: the wait is over.
youtube
Running through the list:
Film
Superman: Legacy - Not really much to go off of other than the name being rather boring. Probably chose it over something like Superman: Man of Tomorrow simply to make sure people wouldn't confuse it for a MoS sequel. It's coming in 2025 and will be the first "proper" DCU film, which means we will get casting by the end of 2023 at least. I've seen some folks speculate that "Legacy" means the real focus will be on Clark mentoring Kara or Jon and I don't see that happening. If that was the plan then there's no need to drop Cavill, since he just would be playing support. Whoever the new Superman will be, he will be front and center.
The Authority - No one saw this one coming. How the hell this will work in the DCU is anyone's guess. I think they'll have Manchester Black form the team as a reaction to Superman, and ultimately there will be a clash between Supes and the Authority that ends with Black being ousted in favor of Jenny Sparks. Perhaps it will even lead into an adaption of Morrison S&tA given the Morrison influence seen elsewhere in the slate? Either way I'm very excited to see what Gunn does.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - I loved the mini, I'm excited for this.
Lanterns - I get both of my favorite Lanterns in the DCU! Surprising that they would scrap Berlanti's show right after signing a big deal with him. I'm going to guess that they discover evidence of the White Martians invading, and that's what leads into the DCU JL forming.
The Brave and the Bold - Skipping right to Damian is surprising but that might be to avoid stepping on Reeves toes. I guess there will be another age gap between Superman and Batman?
The Batman Part II - Batman fans eating good, you'll get solo gritty dark Batman and more comic-y Batman.
Swamp Thing - As if you needed any more confirmation that the Abrams JLD projects are dead. I love Swamp Thing but I'm going to need more info.
Television
Creature Commandos - Exact sort of obscure property we were expecting Gunn to love. Good to see DC is investing in animation still.
Paradise Lost - Might be good if they look to Historia for inspiration. "Game of Thrones with the Amazons" could go sour really quickly depending on how they characterize the Amazons.
Waller - If Bloodsport shows up here I'll watch it, otherwise I think I'm good.
Booster Gold - Never really cared for Gold myself but this character is exactly the kind of character Gunn loves. If he casts Pratt in the role all hell will break loose and I would be there for it.
Misc.
Seems like Levi, Gadot, Momoa, and even Miller(!!!) might get to continue in their roles. You won't see actors play two characters at the same time in the DCU, so I guess Momoa won't be Lobo after all? Look, part of the problem is that Gunn can't say anything that will negatively impact the box office returns for 2023, meaning he's not going to say they're done even if they are because then people might go "these don't matter", and stay home. The Wrap claims that The Flash is going to get the Elseworlds brand which makes it unlikely Calle would continue on as Supergirl, but it's too early to say at this point.
Keeping any of the main Leaguers in their roles is going to cause the same kind of continuity clusterfuck as the New 52 not rebooting Batman and GL did, but you know what? At this point I don't care. Not my problem, all I want are good Superman and Supergirl movies, with some exciting spinoffs like LoSH too. Don't give a rat's ass if the JL film sucks or the continuity makes sense as long as I get what I want. I'll follow the projects that look interesting and ignore the ones that don't.
There's a "brain trust" of writers advising Gunn, one of whom is Tom King which is sure to piss off plenty but leaves me rather happy. Maybe King is even writing the script for Supergirl? Morrison and King are clearly Gunn's guiding lights, and far as Superman goes they're two of his best writers. Adam Strange fans are in for a rough ride no doubt.
Gunn also confirmed that they continue to plan on synergy across multiple mediums which makes me nervous. If his Superman sucks then I'm going to be stuck with a take I don't like showing up everywhere in a way not even Snyder/Cavill's take did. On the other hand the emphasis that the synergy will include DCU games makes me hopeful that maybe we might finally get a goddamn Superman game, and if that happens then I'll take that synergy. S&L may get to run for 1 to 2 more seasons - wasn't clear if S3 is included in that 1 to 2 more - but that will hopefully let S&L last for 4-5 seasons which is a solid tenure for a show. Not sure how MAWS will fit into Gunn's plan, but I hope he just lets it run and makes his own Superman cartoon if he wants one.
Tumblr media
Feels nice to be excited after years of flinching and dreading every DC announcement. Not a perfect slate, not what *I* would do, but there's a healthy mix of A-Listers, B/C-Listers, and oddballs that appeal to Gunn. Not all of the slate has been revealed, and I'm sure we will get another JL movie before the decade is done, but for a starting slate I think DC's future looks bright.

Pokemon Violet
Tumblr media
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Pokemon is my favorite series of all time. Out of all of the games that I've ever owned, I've played and replayed pokemon the most. While I was a little behind on the games since I was born in 95 and they came out 96, I still have my original blue and yellow copies, and yes they still work! My favorite region is Hoenn but I love all of the games, and I have a copy of each game from each gen (Mostly since I was lonely so had to trade between myself)
Spoilers below for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
For me, the game's graphics aren't a big deal. I don't really care about graphics if the story is good. So I won't talk about that.
Story wise, I love it! The world is so big and open, and going on a treasure hunt to make your own path? It makes the game unique on a whole different level from the previous games. The characters aren't all happy go lucky or downright awful, they feel like real people. They have strengths and flaws. Like Nemona, I used to focus only on my first six as a kid, whatever team I got early game was my team for the whole game, and so I can relate to Nemona not catching as many pokemon. Plus like I seen a couple of people say, she does kinda remind me of Ash, but then again she's already a champion, or so they call her a champion level student. I am glad Ash finally won a tournament, two I believe?
Arven on the other hand, I'm not overly fond of. Sure, he had his cute moments like saying he made the sandwich just for your character. But the fact that he just abandoned Miraidon on us left a sour taste in my mouth, like the Charmander's trainer in the anime way back when. But I've only gotten to one of the Titans so far, so I'll reserve my full judgement for later. Like I said, he does have his cute moments, but overall, I feel meh about him.
Team Star, I haven't gotten around to getting to one of their bases yet, but I do like the concept that they aren't just using one type of pokemon like other regional villains. Plus, they do seem like they're just kids who joined an organization they thought was good and would help them get prestige in school. They're not on the level of Team Skull to me yet, since Team Skull basically made themselves a home and family when they were rejected by everyone else, these kids seem to just want to bully people. But I'm just getting to the first base now, so we'll see.
And now the pokemon. This time around, there's so many new and interesting pokemon! From who was brought in from previous generations to the brand new pokemon and regional variations. I have not really spoiled myself too much on evolutions, just looking to see how some evolve. I chose Sprigatito as my partner, and so far may keep on Shroodle and Flittle. I also was able to get myself a Goomy, a pokemon I never had the chance to raise. But I also saw there was an evolution for Primape. Just have to wait and see how my team grows!
A couple of things I don't like: How small the pokemon are when I'm just trying to ride around on Miraidon. Like yes, it's cute and adorable, but there are times where I just want to go to where I see a thing and run into a Pichu or something and my pokemon's health is already low. I also found a couple of places you could get stuck, like in the first town I just wanted to see if I could go down an alleyway. It stopped me, I turned around to go back and nope. I thankfully could fast travel, but that's something that shouldn't happen in the first place imo. One graphical thing that bothers me a lot to put here is the shadows. They glitch in and out and I get distracted when trying to pick up a glowing spot and have to go back to see if I actually got it.
I'm still playing the game, so I'll post another one when I got about half of the things done. There's just so much to do!
