tighnari gets up from his bed, still reeling from the sound of thunder. he clutches his head, a part of his senses dulling and heightening from the ringing. his ears bring certain curses.

ah, yes, of course. another curse for his ears had to materialize in front of him. you sit across from him and cross your arms, glaring at him till he sits back down too. it’s good to know the little quirks of your body language haven’t changed since your akademiya days.

you sit back down, pouting. “but you need to get better! as fast as you can, tighnari. i don’t like seeing you like this...”
tighnari sighs, eyes closing. “i will. it’s not like one mushroom will have me coughing up blood... at least not this one.”
you bite down your lip and tighnari can’t help but tilt his head to the side, trying to decipher your whole expression.
“tighnari,” you speak up, not looking at him. “we’re friends, right?”

tighnari expects a bit of snark from you right back—instead, he is met with your sudden embrace, your breath warming the spot by his neck.

tighnari believes time settles everything. then why does he feel so impatient with your actions?

he trails off. there’s a spark of sorrow in his voice.
“i want to see more of the world,” you answer softly. your smile against his shoulder makes his face warm up. it’s not often the head of the forest rangers gets to feel this way. “but i don’t think i want to do it without you.”
his ears twitch before perking up. if you weren’t as observant as a shroomboar, you might have noticed.
“well then, you need to change your habits. don’t go around making bets, or diving onto a mushroom to jump higher, or touching and eating whatever plant you find,” he scolds. “i can tell you which plants are edible. i can teach you how to set up camp. you must listen to every instruction.”

“i’m saying, when the forest is healed, we can set out by ourselves.”
the last drop of rain patters outside his door. who knew the cure to a mildly poisonous mushroom would be the embrace of a loved one? perhaps those foreign fairytales you read to him had some meaning to them after all. perhaps the two of you would get to know soon.

My Problem With The Crows
Imma be fr, and some of y’all gonna think I’m tripping but Six of Crows should’ve never been merged with Shadow and Bone.
I love the crows. My favorite character in the entire show is Jesper and I genuinely think the Six of Crows duology is better than the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Everything about it was better to me. When I finished the S&B trilogy, I was happy. When I finished the SOC duology, I was sad because it was over. I was gonna miss my little pookie bears. That’s why it irritates me how their story is sped up in the show.
I get it. The show is called Shadow and Bone, so the story is mainly gonna focus on Alina. My thing is, why bring the crows if you couldn’t put a bunch of focus on them? Their story feels so rushed sometimes and I was honestly thrown off at some points. I feel like it doesn’t entirely work because the books take place years after Alina destroys the fold, so the things they do may not connect with her story. Season 1 they didn’t do much besides Nina and Matthias. They want Alina, they fail, they assist in a fight, that’s it. In season 2 Matthias stays in jail the entire time because they couldn’t do the actual plot of SOC because it’d be extremely rushed. Or maybe they didn’t do it so it didn’t take away attention from the S&B plot. To be honest, when I found out they were merging S&S and R&R, I wasn’t a huge fan. I was gonna say that if they spread it out, the ice court job could’ve been season 2 and Crooked Kingdom could’ve been season 3, but how much time passed in the books? In SOC Matthias has been in prison for at least a year I believe. That’s another problem, the timing has to match Alina’s story. They can’t do too much.
Also I didn’t like that Jesper and Wylan got together. I don’t mean this because I don’t think they’re cute. I love those two, but they get together towards the end of Crooked Kingdom. Them getting together so soon felt rushed and unnecessary. I guess they have the excuse of “oh, well they met before. They slept together” but lust and love are two completely different things. They had time to build up to this in the books. They’re cute in the show, but it don’t feel the same. The flirting, the teasing, the tension, the jealousy, I just feel like it would hit more if they weren’t together yet.
Also Pekka? In Crooked Kingdom, that man was a menace. How is he gonna be a menace if he’s locked up like Akon? He was a free man doing wild shit. He and Fuck Ass Van Eck turned Ketterdamn against the crows. Now I’m sure they’ll find a work around, but why do any of that when we could’ve just did the actual story? And honestly, I was shocked Kaz actually told Inej about his brother. Since we’re on that though, him defeating Pekka was so satisfying because we hated Pekka since SOC. We don’t know why Kaz can’t stand him in the first season, I’m pretty sure we find out in SOC but I could be wrong. I still think his downfall shouldn’t have been immediate.
It’s late and I got shit to do tomorrow so imma leave it here but I genuinely think they should’ve gotten their own show so they had proper pacing and time to shine. They shine even now but their own show would’ve ate.

thoughts on pjo series so far after episode 6:
(spoilers for ep 6 ahead!! minor spoilers for the books too but nothing much about the plot)
acting SLAYS. slays. i almost teared up like 3 times bc of percabeth in ep 4/5 ALONE. and sally!! and grover!!!! luke and clarisse too ugh!!!!
special effects SLAYYYY. the monsters look really good and just as i imagined, I’ll give them that.
sets and locations are also very accurately pictured and the vibes brought out are just like the book!
script sucks. the writing is soooo awkward most of the time and the conversation just does not flow well. it’s too serious and boring half the time and i can’t keep relying on the actor’s tones even if they’re doing well as child actors.
soooo much exposition in every single conversation my head is spinning. like i feel like there were better ways to contextualise info from the book?
i saw someone say this show could’ve been approached with a fleabag ish narration and while that sort of would be a bit unorthodox i feel like that or just having walker narrate over the top sometimes would’ve been a good way to nod to the books. it’s difficult to bring a first person series alive when the narrator has so much personality and stuff to say that affects descriptions and how we see it, but i think it could’ve been possible.
music is clunky sometimes in that like why r the vibes so heavy for nothing…. like when they were talking in the animal truck and when they were driving the taxi etc.
no action. like i don’t need it to be pumping out adrenaline all the time but they have fr barely done anything i’m sorry 😰 book trio would’ve ate them alive.
cutting grover out at the waterpark likeeee??? yeah maybe him w ares was important but also it was not. they could’ve gotten that info any other time without making him stay w ares.
lacking explanation where it matters. like the eeriness of the lotus casino and why there are people from all different eras. and their RESOURCES like they aren’t explaining where their money and clothes and stuff are like these kids are surviving off one backpack?? it reminds me of in a wrinkle in time (2018) how the kid’s shirt changes like every 10 minutes and it’s just never acknowledged.
speaking of the lotus casino it’s just so like… bland. they’re cutting out the best parts of the story. percy fighting the chimera was so underwhelming and the bus scene too!!! and the lotus casino like yeah ok let’s not promote drugs i guess but they could have and SHOULD have had fun. why did they waste that time on cgi for the roller coaster in the casino at all?? it wasn’t sinister enough bc the whole vibe of the show is just serious so there’s no contrast between them thinking they’ve found paradise and realising there’s something wrong. captured the vibe of the show tbh: they plateau along the middle line of fun and serious business instead of playing with it like the book does.
feels like the character relationships r poorly drawn out. i’ve already forgotten about the weak attempt to build a percy-luke friendship. and annabeth not letting grover talk to hermes in the casino felt badly explained. plus grover’s whole backstory?? why r we straying so far from how the books explained him like they’re separating him a bit toooo much from the others.
generally just too many plot changes like as much as there is good in this show there is also bad and we stray further and further from the plot every single episode (the SOLSTICE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TIME PRESSURE??).
it’s somehow too low stakes and too serious at the same time. like they’re acting like the stakes are high but i’m not feeling the pressure.
i understand it’s a new iteration and an adaption almost never means it’ll be the same, but that doesn’t mean i like all the changes. i guess there’s probably tonnes of reasons why book to screen adaptions always change so much (actually harry potter and tbosas ate tbh but oh well), and in this case it’s been many years since pjo was released, so rick is just taking that chance to rewrite things as he would if he wrote the books now. and i accept that. but these are just my opinions and some of these things are just plain bad choices for a show 😭
but i do still hope it gets picked up for all 5 seasons + heroes of olympus like i’ll give u all my money i’ll watch it all i swear

Liu’s scarf had been torn a good few times so whenever kagekao gets the chance he’d help repair it, he does so for the others as well!!

Brings animals back to the manor. Could be the poisonous thing known to man kind and he’d still bring it home just because it had a minor scratch on it. This man cares for animals like his life depends on it. If he was never dragged along by slender he would’ve probably been a veterinarian! His love for animals is probably the reason why the rake and SeedEater like him so much, next to Jack ofc because they luv Jack but they luv Toby too! He brings them little Knick knacks and makes sure they are fed well, even if they are usually fed, a snack never hurts!
Lazari:
She isn’t as shitty as everyone makes her out to be lmao, she was terrified of Jack at first cause she thought it was like a minion working for zalgo or sumthin but turns out it’s a random entity that spawned with no eyes and ate kidneys. She still doesn’t like it all that much tho, she actually doesn’t like most of the pasta residents. The only one she really likes is Sally and that’s cause Sally tends to help her out even if she is a little trickster and mean at times.
Zero/Nina H:
Her and Nina are girlfriends <33 don’t care what anyone says they just are. When they first met they grew quite a nice bond with each other and after a year or two started dating. Graveyard dates/picnics every once in a while!! They are quite close with eachother and everyone respects that, they are inseparable! They share all their missions together cause they make such a good duo!
Nurse Ann:
Oh. My. God??? Love her sm. You’d be surprised bout the fact that she leads the whole medic crew (which.. consists of her, Dr smiley, Dr pain, and Jack for some reason) literal man eater, WILL walk you like a dog fr. Talked about Jack a lot, so why not just make it’s own category? It doesn’t really live in the manor, it does have its own room there!! But it tends to lurk the forest with SeedEater or basically go and torment Mitch, jack basically lives under Mitch’s bed/in the corner of his room Jack isn’t verbal, it doesn’t really speak so it relies on others to be it’s voice, but tends to just use the sign language it was taught by Ann. It’s not cause it chooses not to speak, it actually hurts, it’s vocal cords are shattered due to an incident it caused itself way back. No one knows what the accident was though.
Puppeteer:
He had begged Jason (TTM) to help him create a mini doll so he can gift it to Helen <3 well, it did work out, but things got a little out of hand. It started with the stuffed plush being ordinary and stuff before the pup decided it’d be a fun idea to bring it to life, did it scare the living shit out of helen? Yes. Did he forgive puppeteer I’m the end for his efforts to gift him something? Also yes!! In the end the puppeteer just gifted him a regular stuffed toy.
Ben:
He owns those Cat headphones, they where jokingly gifted to him and he claimed he hated it multiple times until he was one day caught actually wearing them, turns out he actually enjoyed them a bunch and was too embarrassed to admit it. He ended up getting Sally a matching pair of them so they’d end up playing video games together. 
SeedEater:
Since SeedEater practically knows almost every language, which gives him the ability to mess around a lot with the residents. Not because he’s scared of being called out by them, but it’s funny watching the residents get so confused when he just starts blabbering in a random language and than mixes it up with other languages at the same time. Not many others have the ability to speak multiple languages, especially almost all, but those who do have a fun time snickering to themselves about the random shit seed eater rambles on about while many others tend to stay confused. Although his abilities to speak many languages mess around in his head a lot. Most times he accidentally mixes and jumbles words together because he simply can’t remember the exact words he was trying to say in just one language.
Jane:
She’s the one cooking!! She doesn’t cook for everyone though, she cooks for the ones who can’t cook for themselves or aren’t trusted in yeh kitchen. Besides that everyone else either eats human body parts, gets take out, or cooks themself. She’s surprisingly a very good chef, so whenever someone happens to get sick they are in for a treat cause they get Janes home made soup and it tastes absolutely BOMB
