Herd of fire.
Azula and Zuko constantly fought over who would be the Alpha of the pack.
Mai and Ty Lee accepted Azula as their Alpha, because Zuko was rarely around.
Zuko reluctantly agreed to let Azula be the Alpha when she defended them in an uncontrolled animal.
Mai and Ty Lee were always scented by Azula, and Zuko never had the courage to ask for it too.
Zuko accepted that he would never have Mai when he saw a mark on her neck.
No one in the pack knew that Azula was studying how to be a good Alpha, much less that it was Lu ten who was teaching her.
When everyone left for the first time, Azula immediately shut down.
When everyone was back together they noticed how Azula surreptitiously perfumed them with her pheromones.
They noticed how Azula was ready to be abandoned again, they didn't know what to think.
Ironically, they weren't the ones who broke the pack bond, and it was the first time they felt the same way Azula did.

I mentioned something about this awhile ago but it is absolutely incredible to me how Mai is an interesting and important character when the writers chose to explore her relationships with Ty Lee and Azula and the trauma she suffered when her parents tried to shove her into the role of perfect Fire Nation lady, but looses all of her dimensions the moment she was paired romantically with Zuko. It kind of reminds me of what happened with Katara in the comics.

Mai Beta and her two girlfriends.
At first, Mai was confused because Azula and Ty Lee were attracted to her.
Mai read all the books and information about Alphas and Omegas to understand her girlfriends.
Both Azula and Ty Lee mark Mai's body regardless of the fact that she is a Beta and they cannot do it.
After meeting again, Mai had to stay still for hours while Azula and Ty Lee filled her with their pheromones.
Before going to sleep Azula and Mai have to take off their clothes so Ty Lee can make the nest.
Ironically, when Azula and Ty Lee are in their heat/routine, it's Mai who always wants to keep going, no matter how tired her Alpha and Omega are.
It took Mai a while to understand why Azula and Ty Lee chose her, a simple Beta over the others.
Mai is amused to think that she has the most powerful Alpha and the most perfect Omega at her feet.
Mai understands why her Alpha left her with Ty Lee, it was cruel that I chose her brother over her, but she owed that idiot a favor.
It was a good idea to kidnap his Alpha along with Ty Lee to keep her without anyone else knowing.
