Why do you think Crowley didn't just get another apartment?
Hi! Thanks for the ask. I have French buttercream chocolate cake tonight. I know, right? It's amazing. *cuts you a slice*
To answer your question, I think we have to look at the whole thing with where Crowley parks The Bentley and when (in both seasons) and, also, the scenes that emphasize Crowley and Aziraphale avoiding being seen together anywhere in the mornings and what all this has to do with what he says is his living situation in S2.
Meta on Crowley "living in his car" in S2 under the cut.
Tumblr media
For Crowley and Aziraphale, what has always been what *absolutely cannot happen* is Heaven/Hell figuring out that Crowley will stay in the bookshop until very, very late into the evening, as that is the one thing they'd have trouble justifying. If Crowley parked The Bentley in front of the bookshop in the afternoon/evening and it was still there at 7am the next morning, it would send a message to anyone watching that their relationship isn't just intelligence business, it's not just friendship...and it's not even really just sex. If Heaven/Hell saw The Bentley outside the bookshop all night often enough, they would assume that Crowley and Aziraphale are in a romantic relationship and this is the one thing that Crowley and Aziraphale do not want them to figure out. They can hatch a wild plan if they get caught to justify any of the rest of it and maybe get away with it but there's no way out if they get caught out being in love when they're supposed to be sworn enemies... so, if they want to spend time alone together in the privacy of the bookshop, how do they work around the problem of potentially being noticed? The show actually showed us subtly in S1 before a little more overtly in S2.
When Crowley is going to come over for awhile-- and especially when it's going to mean that he's there into the evening-- he doesn't park The Bentley in front of the bookshop. He parks it in the vicinity but not too close-- around where it was when Aziraphale called him in 2.01. Two or so minutes' drive out, on a side street. (A two minute drive is a 15 or so minute walk so not that far but a bit away.) If he's coming to the shop alone, he'll probably use the side entrance to the bookshop but if he's been out with Aziraphale-- like he was in their 'fuck everything, the world is ending' lunch at The Ritz in 2008-- they'll walk back to the bookshop. If anyone notices Crowley entering it, it'll be during the day, right? While not ideal, it's innocuous enough. Aziraphale's bookshop is theoretically a business and is also an angelic embassy and Aziraphale could say that he's trying to turn Crowley to the light and make him into an informant if they were caught. Conversely, it couldn't hurt Crowley-- whose job, like Aziraphale's, is to spy on his counterpart-- to seem like he's gaming the corruptible angel and getting intel to further the demonic goals of Hell so he could say he's luring the angel to trusting him. Being in the bookshop during the day, during what are (for normal businesses lol) business hours, when the business is also an embassy, is one thing. It's the evening that's the problem for them. At that time of day, the bookshop is nothing but Aziraphale's residence and Crowley's presence during those hours becomes much riskier. So, how to get around that?
Here's them walking back to the bookshop from wherever Crowley's parked The Bentley on a side street after lunch in 2008/Eleven Years Ago in S1:
Tumblr media
During lunch in 2008, they already planned for Crowley to come back to the bookshop with Aziraphale and since there's no plan for him to leave in any hurry, Crowley is already not parked in front of the bookshop so no one can recognize his car there late at night. This is practiced between them; they've been doing it for awhile by this point. They still are in S2, when we have several scenes of Crowley in The Bentley parked on a side street near the bookshop.
Since Crowley can't be seen then leaving the bookshop once the sun is up or it'd defeat the purpose of the car not being parked in front of it, whenever he comes over, he leaves the bookshop through the side door at some ungodly pre-dawn hour, walks to his car a few streets over (apparating into it would be suspicious to anyone who might have found it so he usually walks, looking like he was just out late causing demonic trouble), and then, in the past, would drive back to his apartment in Mayfair. That way, when the sun came up, anyone who might be watching his place would see The Bentley parked in front of it. Didn't see Crowley leave the bookshop from the afternoon? You must have missed him in a crowd on the sidewalk somewhere because there's his gorgeous, old, very recognizable car, parked in front of his place in Mayfair, gleaming in that early morning sun.
No one was ever the wiser to the fact that on some of these nights, Crowley was not home in his apartment or out raising hell all night but was actually in the bookshop nearly until dawn.
Is it kind of miserable for Crowley to have to leave every time in the middle of the night and for him and Aziraphale to never really know what it's like to wake up together? To never get to have breakfast and mornings together? Of course. But it keeps them safe so they deal with it. As a result, though, they have a thing about mornings.
In 1.01, when Crowley calls Aziraphale in the middle of the night and they both have separately learned of Armageddon, he tells Aziraphale that they "need to talk" and then they both, without further discussion, are at their bench in St. James' Park the next day. During their talk, they decide to go to lunch and go directly there, which means that they met up sometime around 11am-12pm. So even Crowley calling in the middle of the night and setting up the meeting in the park with their code phrase means that the time of the meeting is always predetermined to be at least 11am, no matter what they need to discuss. Even after learning of Armageddon beginning, they waited until almost lunch the next day to meet up and talk about it because they never want to be seen in public together in the earlier mornings. They're afraid of someone seeing them going for a walk or getting a coffee together before midday and thinking they spent the previous night together. Crowley is always gone from the bookshop before the sun starts to come up and they never meet before 11am in an effort to keep anyone from figuring out that they are often in the bookshop-- and Aziraphale's bed-- together through the early morning hours.
Which tends to make this, their first time getting breakfast even if Crowley knew it wasn't really that because Aziraphale's "problem voice" was on, even more hilarious...
Tumblr media
Crowley's like I left you blissed out and half-asleep in your bed *four hours ago*, angel... how on Earth is there a 'naked man friend' in your bookshop right now? He knows that Shax told him there's something going on and that Aziraphale called with a problem but this is the only time of day they usually spend apart and they always do so if Aziraphale is going to cheat on him-- which he's not lol-- this is when he would and based on the fact that Aziraphale panics at Crowley thinking there's another guy in the bookshop and based on Crowley's wtf? face at hearing there is, these two aren't sleeping with anyone else anymore and have a monogamous thing, even if they probably sort of forgot to have a discussion about it. Crowley can tell from Aziraphale's reaction that there's some misunderstanding here and then just gets bemused about it but also about ready to kill whatever guy, naked or not, is causing Aziraphale problems, only to find out that it's, well, the guy who tried to kill them.
Tumblr media
In 2.01, when Gabriel makes his rather noticeable arrival on Aziraphale's doorstep, it is the mid-part of the morning-- probably somewhere around 9am as Maggie was just getting ready to open her store for the day, Nina was still busy but her more immediate pre-work coffee rush seemed to be winding down, and Aziraphale was having his breakfast tea on yet another day that his shop was not opening lol. The most major character to miss Gabriel's arrival is, of course, Crowley. Crowley's meeting with Shax is just before/happening in tandem with Aziraphale at Maggie's shop and then Gabriel's arrival and actually opens the storyline in the present in S2. The point is that Crowley misses Gabriel's arrival because he is not in the bookshop in the early mornings, which is then something that is heavily emphasized through Crowley and Aziraphale's first scene of the season via Nina to not just be about this particular early morning but all mornings.
When Aziraphale calls Crowley and has him meet him in Give Me Coffee, Nina has never met Crowley before. Give Me Coffee is fifteen steps across the street from the bookshop and sells coffee, tea and baked goods and Nina doesn't know Crowley. Nina has been there running it since post-S1. She knows Aziraphale though and, until the morning of 2.01, she thought the old bookseller a confirmed bachelor. In the span of 20 minutes, he gets a naked man possible deliveroo strippergram on his doorstep in front of the whole neighborhood and then then this other hot-- and surprisingly clothed-- Ginger Goth guy shows up to meet him for coffee. Nina's best guess for why the bookseller and his Crowley have never come across the street to her shop before and seem like they've literally never gotten breakfast together while they also "go way back" and have chemistry and affection for one another for days is that they're having an affair. Nina correctly guesses that their relationship is a secret and applies the most logical presumption that a human without knowledge of Heaven/Hell could-- that it's infidelity, not that they could be murdered if they were found out-- because these two live in London Soho in the year 2023 but are still afraid of being found out.
So, all of this shows how there's no Crowley in the bookshop in the morning. Neither of them have ever slipped across the street to bring back coffee and croissants for two at 7am or gone over to Nina's together. Aziraphale has been to Give Me Coffee alone before. Crowley and The Bentley are always nowhere to be found near the bookshop at this hour, which is how Crowley missed Gabriel's arrival.
So what does this all have to do with why Crowley doesn't just get a new apartment ahead of S2?
When Hell showed up in the form of Shax to reclaim the place in Mayfair in which Crowley was living, it really left Crowley with two choices. He wasn't about to tell Aziraphale because Aziraphale would feel like he had to ask him to move in with him for real and it was too dangerous. They can't have that so why bring it up and hurt them more? The two choices Crowley felt he had were to either get a new apartment or to just keep on as he's been living because the truth is... he hadn't been home to Mayfair that much lately anyway.
Before, Crowley and Aziraphale would try to go some amount of time between seeing each other but after S1, maybe with some exceptions around the Covid lockdowns but definitely not since they were lifted, they just stopped bothering that much. They were already together on borrowed time with no idea how much time they had until Armageddon: Round Two would start and they just wanted to be together so they kept up their whole routine of Crowley out before dawn and no mornings but Crowley had been more or less living in the bookshop for awhile ahead of S2.
As Aziraphale says here:
Tumblr media
Meaning: they live together. Crowley's there all the time. Aziraphale does not mind. It's been months of Crowley in the bookshop every night. Aziraphale loves it. He hates him having to leave in the middle of the night as he always does but they've settled into a little domestic thing the best they can with the situation they have. The line is also laden with innuendo, suggesting they're not always just up talking and listening to old records until 4am but are regularly, ya know, setting off some alarm bells in Heaven together. (Couple Aziraphale's innuendo in the "plenty of use" scene with why Crowley says Muriel needs to leave the bookshop when he says he wants to take Aziraphale to breakfast at The Ritz. "We need a little 'us time'" meant all amnesiac angels and assorted representatives of Heaven and Hell need to get the Someplace out of this bookshop right now so I can finally watch that angel eat some pancakes and then take him to bed in our bed without worrying about someone needing a hot chocolate in the middle of the night.)
Their level of domesticity is actually shown to be pretty cute with this bit:
Tumblr media
This is the most living together thing ever because it's saying that Crowley is just frequently in the bookshop while Aziraphale is out now. He's not even just there to see him but he spends time there alone while Aziraphale goes to the bank for change for the four books he sells a month and to his appointment with his barber and all his other little errands. You know Crowley likes waiting inside because he likes having a little time alone in a place where he's safe and won't be disturbed but also really the whole little domestic bliss of Aziraphale coming back and being all "Crowley? There you are" and showing him what he got at the shops and such. It's the most normal married thing imaginable and feels like they really live together and Crowley loves every minute of it.
So Hell taking his place in Mayfair back leaves Crowley with two options because it's still too risky for him and Aziraphale to just full on live together entirely: he can get a new apartment or he can basically just keep living with Aziraphale for most of the day and then spend the mornings in The Bentley/out.
If he gets a new apartment, he'd have to actually go there sometimes. He'd have to be seen moving his stuff into it and he'd have to get a new bed and he'd have to spend nights there sometimes to prove he's living there. It couldn't be suspiciously close to Aziraphale's place, so now he's got to drive more in the early morning hours. He's been spending so much time with Aziraphale, the thought of sleeping alone and spending the evenings alone again, even for a few nights now and then, is depressing. It was miserable before and now he can't to back to it again and he doesn't think Aziraphale would want to, either. He also doesn't exactly know how to tell him he'd have to be away some nights again without hurting him. They've both been alone more often than not for most of their existences and Crowley can't do it anymore. There's also, though, that getting another apartment also doesn't do much to help keep Heaven & Hell from thinking he and Aziraphale are involved... but pretending he's living in his car just might.
The only being of Heaven or Hell still talking to either him or Aziraphale is Shax and Crowley has to keep meeting up with her to get information on what's going on there and try to get a sense of how much time he and Aziraphale might have before Round Two. If he tells Shax that he's living in his car, then it makes him look less close to Aziraphale. Everyone knows Aziraphale has a private residence upstairs in the bookshop and that, if he and Crowley were really close, he'd have offered for Crowley to stay with him if he lost his apartment... so what if Crowley can make Heaven & Hell think they aren't that close, they just teamed up to stop Armageddon? He's even homeless now and the angel won't give him a place to stay. He tells Shax to tell Hell's Finance Office to send his bills to his car and Shax actually bought it and said she tried. Shax has been reporting back to Hell that Crowley is living in his car, which is what Crowley wanted her to think was the case.
Let Hell think they've won over him and taken his place and left him living in his car on a side street, let Shax keep meeting him in the early morning hours in his car on that side street... so that none of them figure out that he's actually living in the bookshop with Aziraphale.
In the meantime, no new apartment means no more nights away from Aziraphale. No commute back to it after picking up The Bentley on the side street means more time he can be with Aziraphale before he has to slip away in the early morning. He can just keep going from the bookshop to his car a few streets away each morning like he has been and that's the funniest part of it to him. Hell thinks they left him homeless and abandoned him and, really, they just made it easier for him to hide from them the fact that he's living with the angel he loves. All he has to do is bullshit them and he's good at that.
Crowley talking about living in his car is basically this in attitude, on steroids:
Tumblr media
His pre-S2 conversations with Shax were like... Fuck, Shax, the crick in my neck from *sleeping in my car*... if Hell's Finance Office wants to find me, they can send the bills *to my car*... Bastard angel owns half of Soho, probably why I can't find a place... tell Lord Beezlebub if they're looking for me, they can go fuck themselves but if they absolutely have to contact me, they can find me *in my car*...
...and three hours or so earlier from every one of those conversations, Crowley was actually curled up in bed with Aziraphale in the bookshop.

Lee jeno was a friend and a half, he was there when things got tough, the kind of friend those cheesy Pinterest quotes you read at 3am would remind you of, he was the person who'd give his all if it meant he'd recieve just a smile in return, the friend who'd go the extra mile, he was good and he came with the promise of all things good
yet he didn't feel like much of a good friend today
It's not every day your best friend since you were in diapers ignores you for weeks on end, doesn't make an effort to approach you but makes a conscious one to bolt in the opposite direction at any sight of you. Jeno, quite simply was confused.
He was a simple man, with one goal, he wanted to get to the bottom of whatever it was that had y/n staring at him with that glint of insecurity mixed with heartbreak in her eyes at every sight of each other in the hallways. Because he didn't have a clue.
He hadn't quite figured out how he'd do it just yet, the recent news of his best friend and his other best friend leaving him conflicted— had she been avoiding him because she'd broken her promise? Y/n of all people should've known that ultimately jeno could care very little about that. Especially if it meant she'd be ignoring him. Some silly promise he made as a way of protecting his emotions would never mean more than their friendship.
He hadn't confronted, if that was even the right word, jisung about the two of them yet either, whether they were dating or just seeing each other casually, he wasn't sure at all, but by the way jisung hadn't come home yet, jeno knew that the younger boy was avoiding him.
He didn't think he could take that, two of his favourite people ignoring his existence over something so trivial.
All jeno had ever really wanted was to make sure they didn't get hurt, and especially not by each other, he just wanted what was best for them, ultimately he knew his little dating ban didn't mean much verbatim, sure his friends were respectful of his wishes for the most part, but jeno wasn't an idiot. He knew that he didn't have the right to tell his friends who they could or couldn't see, casually or on a more serious note, and even if it was a little odd, at the end of the day, he just hoped they'd be happy. Whether that was haechan and yeonhee or jisung and y/n.
Besides, Jisung would return to the dorm eventually, jeno knew, and he had no intention but to clear things up with his younger friend too.
So when there's a knock at the door, he's certain it's just the dancer who had probably forgotten his keys to the apartment again— instead he's met with a teary eyed red head who doesn't seem to be able to get any words out, only rushing head first into his chest, wrapping two arms around his torso in a hug
"I'm so sorry"
Jeno's thankful that rationality had always been his strong suit, pulling the shivering girl inside and placing a warm blanket over her.
The mug of hot tea rests in her hands as jeno takes a seat next to her, though neither of them could deny the distance between them seemed to have grown as jeno was sat a little further than usual.
"take your time, I'm listening"
y/n wanted to speak, but she couldn't find the words, her throat dry upon seeing him again— despite knowing it wasn't jeno who had said all those things, somehow every word that had struck so deep and hit the most broken parts of her soul seemed to come back at the sight of him
and y/n wanted to speak, she needed to but quite frankly she was too ashamed to admit that she had believed that jeno would ever think those things, let alone say them, instead she reaches for her phone, open to their conversation over the past 3 weeks, placing it in his palm
"this isn't me cherry, you know that right, my phone was stolen weeks ago?" she nods, and jeno knows her well enough to understand that whatever this was, was a lot deeper than it had initially seemed
"its yeri, she" tears begin to well in her eyes and y/n swears she won't cry, gulping harshly and taking in a deep breath "fuck jen, I don't even know where to start"
despite the overwhelming amount of thoughts in her mind, one sticks out like a sore thumb, and that's to not mention anything regarding jeno liking her. As a firm believer in everything having a time and a place, she was certain that was a conversation for later. Things were messy as they were, she knew better than to add to that solely to feed her curiosity.
"I'm just so fucking sorry for thinking you'd ever say any of that or for not coming to you sooner to talk about it" jeno nods, half understanding, though he can't deny feeling a little let down by her quickness to believe in those messages.
"I get it" he nods, "I can't lie I'm hurt, you know, that you ever thought I would do that, but I know where you're coming from too" he takes a deep breath, because despite everything that had seemed to be running through the mind in front of him, jeno couldn't deny that he was hurt too.
"and the whole jisung thing, it's a little strange, because more than the fact that we had that promise, I thought you told me everything, the both of you, or at least something big like this, so it kind of hurts to find out the way i did"
She nods. She knew she could plead innocent all she liked, but ever since finding out jaemin and jisung were so close, she'd always had a hunch— the fear of disappointing jeno by going against his words, for whatever reason he had said them, had always stopped her from confirming it.
That's exactly what jeno hears from her.
There's a lingering disappointment in the air, all jeno needed from her was honesty, and all y/n had hoped for was some communication, because neither of them had tried to reach out these past few weeks, and quite simply, it sucked.
But that was the thing about jeno and y/n, they were strong, being there for each other was second nature and moving on past these matters, despite taking a little time, was something they always managed.
That's how they find themselves filling the living room with laughter over shared memories, and catching up over everything that had hapenned recently.
Jeno was like a rock for y/n, her only constant in life, and some part of her felt guilty, still hiding so much from him

sun to me, part 4
so i stayed anyway
series masterlist
Tumblr media
In a turn of events that everyone saw coming, Luke and I quickly became friends. Much to the dismay of Josie, who was hoping I would've 'jumped his bones' at this point (her words not mine). She was now on a fully blown friends-to-lovers conspiracy. Informing me that at some point I would realize I was in love with him and blah blah blah. Josie has a wild imagination and gets carried away often. But it's also what makes her one of my favorite people so I can't complain.
My newfound friendship with Luke is how I ended up at this place on a Tuesday after my team's practice, absolutely fuming. I was not having it tonight, it was a shit show practice, and if this was any indicator of how the season was going to go, we might as well give up now. Luke, bless his heart, looked terrified when he opened the door, not sure if I was through with my yelling he had heard on the phone or not.
Normally when there was a bad practice I ended up going to the gym, by myself, not wanting to have to let my roommates see me so upset. Not that they cared, they'd normally agree with my anger and egg it on, instead of trying to tell me I was being irrational, which I normally was. However, when I texted Luke, he said I could come over so I ditched my normal gym routine and headed to his house.
"Well, don't you look like a picture of happiness," He offers as I step inside. This was the first time I had been at his place, it was nice, very nice.
"Idiots. I play on a team with a bunch of idiots," I slide my shoes off, and he closes the door behind me before leading me through their home. "I mean is that hard to pass the damn puck. You obviously aren't going to fucking score so just pass the fucking puck. We aren't going to win when fucking Lauren thinks she needs to score every fucking goal. Another thing, she's not even that good, oh and she's a fucking rude bit-," I stop myself mid-rant, not just to take a breath but because I realized his brother was here, and me yelling about a bitch on my team isn't the best first impression. Luke is stifling a laugh.
"Jack, this is Edwards' sister, y/n. Y/n, this is Jack, my brother," He introduces us.
"Nice to meet you," I offer him a slightly awkward smile.
"You too," he says, having more of a smile than I do. "Now please continue about this puck-hogging bitch?" My cheeks turn pink at that.
"I was just going to say she's a rude fucking bitch who flirts with other girls on the team's boyfriends and has no remorse," I cross my arms over my chest. "That's it," I finish.
"She sounds awful, but I'm sure your coach will take care of it. Well, at least the puck-hogging thing, I don't think there's much to be done with the boyfriend stealing, that's just a character flaw," Luke offers. Which honestly, is probably what I needed to hear. If I had been with the girls, it would have been full-fledged agreeing with all of it, and agreeing that I should just plow her into the boards at practice and just accept getting reamed out for it.
"She does sound like a rude bitch," Jack nods in agreement. "But Luke's right, your coach should deal with the on-ice issues, not much you can do about the other things, but try not to do anything that makes you seem like the ass." I nod, accepting what they're saying, and knowing that their advice is the most rational, and anything I had been concocting in my mind on the way over here, was irrational and should probably never see the light of day. "We were just going to have dinner, want anything?" Jack offers.
"Sure," I nod. Luke sits on the couch and pats the spot next to him. I flop down and slump. Freaking Lauren had drained all the positivity and energy from my body.
"So, is you ranting about teammates after practice a common occurrence?" Luke asks me. I shake my head.
"No, I mean don't get me wrong, I practice more often than not pissed off about something, but it's normally related to me and how I performed, very rarely is it because of one of my teammates. Lauren is a transfer, and she's made approximately zero friends on the team," I offer as an explanation.
"So, if you hadn't come here were you just going to stew in your anger?"
"No, well sorta, I go the gym, well if it's something that I think has to do with me, I go to the gym. Otherwise, I rant to my roommates but they normally encourage the anger and irrational ideas to deal with it," I lift a shoulder, not really knowing what else to say.
"You go to the gym? After multiple hours at practice?"
"I know, it's not good, but it's habit," I mumble, my cheeks turning pink, for no reason. He's being genuinely curious, it's not like he's scolding me. Luke doesn't say anything else because Jack yells something about food.
After dinner, I get ready to leave, not wanting to overstay my welcome, when Luke tells me we're going somewhere. Once I'm in the car, he informs me we're going to get ice cream. I protest, trying to tell him I don't do sugar during my season, but he tells me to loosen up and to treat myself, especially after my shitty day. I don't protest anymore, giving into his reasoning. We get to a little ice cream place not far from his place and against my wishes he buys me ice cream, not letting me pay for myself, and we sit outside at a little table. Luke has a triumph smirk on his face as I narrow my eyes at him.
"Stop being so grumpy, you have ice cream, and you're hanging out with me, what could you be mad about?" I roll my eyes at that, a small smile slipping through at his playful arrogance.
"Some dumb man wouldn't let me pay for my own ice cream."
"Yeah, well it was his idea, and he wanted to see his friend less grumpy, so stop frowning and enjoy the mint chip," He points his spoon at me. I roll my eyes but smile, taking a bit of the ice cream.
--
By the time I get my car from Luke's and get back home, it's late. Really late. I'm expecting everyone to be in bed, not asleep, but in their rooms. I'm wrong, they're all sitting on the couch, waiting for me.
"Hey," I offer them a smile.
"Hey yourself, where were you missy?" Josie is the first to speak. "You left after practice which was approximately, 6 hours ago, and we haven't heard from you since, just tracked your location to see you ended up at a random house, and then some ice cream place, back to the house, and then here," she recalls my locations. I'm going to delete Life360 so these weirdos can't stalk me anymore.
"Nice stalking skills," I tease her.
"This is serious, where you were you?"
"I went to Luke's, I told him I was in a shit mood and he told me to come over, so I hung out there for a while, and then he insisted on ice cream, and then we hung out at his house for a while before I came back here," I give the brief rundown of my actions for the evening.
"You sure spend a lot of time with him for claiming he's just a friend," Ava's voice isn't accusing, just observing.
"He's a good friend," I shrug my shoulders, that really was all the explanation I had. Luke is an amazing friend, and that's something I didn't say about many of Ethan's former or current teammates. I also had a tendency to not get along with them, big egos on those hockey players (of the male variety).
"And will he remain just a friend?" Lindsey asks. I just shrug, I wasn't sure. Luke was good-looking, anyone with eyes could see that, and I loved spending time with him. But in the weeks that I had known him, he had become such a good friend, and that wasn't something I was willing to give up.
"I don't know," I answer honestly. They must sense my discomfort because they change the subject, dropping Luke from the conversation.

why do i think the overseer is still tied to the federation? or if that there is something that is still controlling the islanders?
WELL ! LET ME GET INTO MY THEORY (involving insanity, social psychology (what im doing my masters in), and my never ending imagination)
Tumblr media
but firstly: let me introduce you all to the robber's cave experiment!
the robber's cave experiment is a very popular psychology field experiment conducted by muzafer sherif in the 1950s. essentially, at a summer camp in Oklahoma, they divided 22 boys into 2 groups of 11 each and at camp, the groups were kept separate from each other for the first few days so that they all bonded with their team. they even were told to choose team names.
then, they were made to compete on several tasks, as well as individual tasks, where only winning mattered. there were even situations designed for one team to win at the other team's expense (such as, one team arrived late to a picnic so the other had eaten their food). through this, the teams started to make remarks about the other and what they'd do if they crossed them. the competition started with just name-calling, until it got to one team burning the other's flag, then them retaliating by looting and trashing their stuff. you get the picture.
in the cooldown days, they were asked to write characteristics of the other team and their own. it's not surprising to hear that they described their team members favourably but the other team's as unfavorable.
then, the next phase was trying to reduce this animosity, where it was seen that tasks that forced them to work together towards a greater common goal helped in reducing hostility. particularly, these were conducted in a different place to robber's cave, to leave those grievances behind. by the end of it, seating was mixed and people were mingling again.
(there are ethical issues with this experiment that im not getting into rn but)
why is this all important?
well, did any of that experiment, i don't know, sound familiar to what has been happening?
the random division into arbitrary teams, choosing a name and leader, quests that rely on scarcity of resources, situations where one team benefits at the expense of another?
i think, purgatory is nothing but the qsmp's version of the robber's cave experiment.
it's clear that the past few months have been, chaotic, with the islanders. the federation have had to deal with more and more direct attempts at fighting them from the islanders' ends, with the workers being kidnapped and killed, and just more overall chaos. and even though there are interpersonal disagreements, everyone seems to be by each other's sides against the federation.
they don't understand it at all. and they need to understand it, AND tear them apart to make it easier for them.
two birds with one stone.
they ship all of them off to a new island, where they have suddenly been divided into 3 teams, forced to compete in order to survive, win, and save the eggs. the biggest point scorers are when they actively hunt and kill each other. they're looting, fighting, falling apart and sticking close to their teams to the point of codependency. tight-knit friendships are disregarded, not to mention how almost all relationships have been separated. everyone is for their team, and no one else.
fascinating information, and discord amongst members.
what else could they ask for?
probably events will be outright competitions where they compete to win, and there will be no consolation prizes, making winning the only thing that matters. further driving the ingroup vs outgroup language and dynamics that have already formed.
but then after the two weeks are up, what then?
well they have two options. either let them back onto quesadilla island with these new scars and vendettas, everyone having completely shaken up their dynamics, forced to live together again.
or...
a new island, where there are no teams. no competition. and all of them have to work together for a bigger goal (probably, getting the eggs back for real). something that would make the group dynamics melt away, and help everyone become friendly again.
which would be in their better interest? and what happens if someone, halfway through the experiment, figures out whats going on and whats behind it all?
so they give them a "mystery" to be preoccupied on.
one of the teams is "cursed" and if they lose, everyone loses.
you would think that would make them all work together to figure it out but, judging by how days 1 and 2 went, thats clearly not people's priority. the ingroup vs outgroup dynamics, scarcity, and competition are strong enough to shadow this one crucial instruction.
that's exactly what they wanted. for everyone to be too busy fighting each other for victory, that the odd person being curious would only investigate this claim, and not go further into the purpose of this whole game. maybe there really is a cursed team, whose loss dooms all maybe it was just something said to throw people off the trail. maybe the cursed team is the same throughout, or changes every day. if there are rules, the islanders don't know them. and they seemingly don't care, yet.
so i truly think the only way to make it out is for people to start questioning who is the cursed team, and who is making them do all this and why. it's for them to push aside the arbitrary teams that they have been put in and actually work like they used to back home. because playing the game as it has been laid out to them is just playing into the hands of whoever has put them here. the question is whether they will realise this with time to spare, or when it's already too late for them, their friendships, their relationships, and the eggs.
well that was just me waffling on about psychology and what i think the purgatory event may really mean, cuz nothing makes sense. here are my rapid beliefs: blue team are cursed red team are red herrings green team are a ticking time bomb of fed vs anti fed
thanks for coming to my ted talk

I have picked up so many ideas at this point that I'm gonna end up mixing them all up into some weird amalgamation and everyone who reads these will be so confused as to why the hell Alastor and Lucifer are acting like a married couple in a Partners in Crime au.
But anyways, tech savvy Alastor au:
(By the way I got like two new ideas so get ready for more spam and confusion! This au (was HC now au) will probably be staticradio.)
When Vox aka. Pathetic street rat TV man saw all the systems of his VoxTech break down suspiciously alongside the post listing all the problems with his company and technology under an account with the username "Deerman", he immediately knew who was causing all these problems.
It was his crush love of his life obsession ex rival. I mean, yes Alastor said he'd hated technology and acted as if it was a plague but still, a few years of friendship and trust meant a lot between them – this translating to Vox knowing most of Alastor's secrets in which he didn't reveal cause he liked that it was between them and no one else knew.
And then there was the release of a new phone model, it wasn't named, but it was still a lot better than VoxTech in many different ways. One of those being that they wouldn't stop working when Vox accidentally caused blackouts while scrolling through his ai porn folder of Alastor thinking about defeating Alastor and being defeated by him. So alongside the massive loss of profit from the sudden loss of buyers, there was a bunch of posts talking about the mysterious "deerman" – who wasn't so mysterious to Vox – and the amazing new phone everyone was buying for the same price they'd buy cheap VoxTech phones.
It enraged him so much he... Went to the hotel to apologise. Pathetic, yes, but that was what he was known for being so it did not make much of a difference. It payed off to see Alastor's confused face, and then the realisation, and then the slight triumph in his grin when he'd see Vox bow down slightly to apologise. Less payed off more giving power to his growing erection – it wasn't much to see just his face but with Alastor everything worked like magic, when it came to Alastor he did not need pills to get hard. That was why he'd always ask Val to wear an Alastor wig before they'd fucked, so it was easier, or just more enjoyable but that wasn't the topic.
Luckily it was easy to hide, all he had to do was just pretend the tent in his pants was something else – that was a joke, Vox was shameless and didn't bother hiding it. He would walk proudly though it drew eyes and Alastor even rolled his eyes tiredly, knowing exactly why he had that boner.
But still, Vox apologised to the hotel and then sat down for dinner – Charlie invited him, believing that maybe she could gain another guest willing to commit to redemption. That dinner was spent with him sitting close to the deer and grilling him – metaphorically – for how that phone model was built and wired and coded and all the information. He didn't get the info, but he got to admire Alastor getting irritated. He got to see the way his brows would furrow, his smile strained and it faltering momentarily, he got to see his eyes flickering to the others in a silent plea that went unheard, he got to see the twitch of his ears and he saw everything. He admired everything in genuine curiosity which made him forget his true goal for a few seconds, or minutes but he wasn't counting.
He hadn't even snapped out of the daze when his face was millimetres from Alastor's, studying every atom of details on his flawless face, the beauty in his expressions and so on.
(Alastor's POV for a second)
When Vox paused in his slight demands, his face had been getting closer and closer to Alastor's. The eyes of the TV just darted around Alastor's whole head, from his curly hair to his ears to his eyes and even his mouth.
It was confusing yet somewhat nostalgic for the Radio demon, who finally got to see the old street rat he'd saved rather than the TV he hated. It was the person he loved liked rather than the person who'd changed himself just to try gain more affection. It was exactly why he didn't move even when their lips – well, lip and screen but don't sweat the details – were only a millimetre away and their eyes were staring into each others in silence. He could hear Angel whispering to Husk about what was happening, he could hear Charlie shifting uncomfortably in her seat and he could hear so many things but he didn't register them, getting lost in the TV's eyes and the slight heat emanating from him.
Alastor would never admit that he'd actually loved the TV back.
(Dont mind any plotholes, I am writing with no skeleton for this au since its probably only gonna stay in these asks. Don't mind if my writing has deteriorated, I sometimes go without writing a bit and it causes my writing to get worse. And yes Alastor has curly hair I just physically couldn't give him that fuckass bob.)
(Daily reminder please do not hate on me for my ideas and HCs, if there is something you do not like then please explain kindly so that I can clarify or apologise for my mistakes.)

I spent my walk to work today listening to the Fireside Chat, and I have thoughts about the similarities between Suvi and Ame--I don't think I really made the connection until hearing Aabria talk about Suvi's willingness to sacrifice herself when needed.
And it just struck me that despite how different their personal goals and philosophies are, they both have such a strong sense of the individual as a part of a collective.
For Suvi that's the Citadel's hierarchy, but for Ame it's a more localized community. And they see things very differently, but both feel the call to serve something greater. As I understand it, the major difference is in what they see as the ultimate point of that something: upholding the Citadel and Empire is a goal unto itself for Suvi, but for the Witch of Toma serving the community allows that community to serve its members in turn.
But they both were raised keeping in mind their function as part of that bigger picture, and both grew up knowing they'd eventually take a title that would define a big part of their identity. They both grew up lonely to some degree because of that--no wonder a childhood friendship holds such weight for them as young adults. They're fascinatingly similar in the space around their differences.

Hi I’m the anon that asked for the Soul Eater x Twst Crossover. I really liked how you went about it plus if you’re up to it could you do a Crona!Reader x Vil, Malleus, Leona and Lilia?
I can already imagine Vil’s outrage on their lack of good posture. 🤣🤣🤣
I Love This
Crona was such an interesting character that deserves the world
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I'm not going to include how they would deal with fighting you mostly because without the influence of a certain someone you have no reason to be fighting
plus i don't think they'd stand a chance (but if they did I'd write ab that separately) but anyway...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus Draconia
“What’s wrong, are you ill?”
Your constant deprecating attitude has him pretty baffled
But you are one of his first friends ever so who is he to judge
Not to mention for you to even seek him out you’d have to have a soul connection anyway
He finds himself taking on the more active role in your friendship
“I assure you (Y/n), you are more than capable of being my friend.”
“Nooo, I’m sure I’m worse than scum of the Earth.”
“Yeah, you can say that again.”
“Silence Ragnarok.”
He makes it a point to see if he can separate the little monster from you
Mostly coming up unsuccessful
But he’s more than happy to zap him back into you when he’s being a big nuisance
And since he knows that Ragnarok only seems to bother you when your alone–
“I’ll have to stay by your side then. After all as your friend that's my goal.”
You tend to struggle with basic things even more so than him
And in the way that people are confident with their friends only he is more active with you as well
“Stop whining (Y/n) you’re so–”
“Oh my Seven! Is that–”
“Hello (Y/n), care if I sit with you?”
“I don’t know..I don't know how to handle this kind of situation.”
“ No worries, I’ll help you deal with it.”
Tumblr media
Lilia Vanrouge
“Oi don’t put yourself down like that!”
He still won’t mind this at all
Because you’re less likely to put yourself out there
He can be the one to push you
Of course into situations he controls
“Ne ne (Y/n) what are you doing? Hiding over here?”
“Ragnarok was getting restless so I–”
“I was getting restless?1 You were the one wishing you could touch that stiff’s tail!”
“It was just a thought, I wasn’t going to do anything..”
“Hehe, how cute! How about we play a game! All three of us, together!”
He’s both an accessory to Ragnarok’s shenanigans and his absolute enemy
He appreciates how much of a blocker your counterpart can be when it comes to other love interests
Though he’s determined to build up your confidence
At least enough so that you’ll let him marry you in the Briar valley
“Now you can handle this can’t you?”
“No No! That’s what I’m saying! I can’t do this!”
“Of course you can, dear aren’t I with you?”
Tumblr media
Vil Schoenheit
“What did I say about slouching?! And your head, hold it higher?!”
“Don’t yell, I really can’t deal with that right now.”
“I’m not yelling, I’m scolding you! Fix your face!”
You are so right
He simply can’t stand it
Everything you do is such a waste and he can’t bare to continue his student-career with you…being you
So forceful beauty treatments, etiquette classes, and confidence exercises
He knows you could be just perfect practically at his level if only we could get you to behave
That's not even considering the even worse behaved Ragnarok
“Again you miserable leech!”
“Hey! No need for the names Princess boy!”
“Can we really not do this now it's only going to make him angry at me and later he’ll–”
“What did we just learn, (Y/n)!?”
“Not to mumble…”
“And what are you doing now?”
“Sorry but i just don’t think I can deal–”
“Ah ah, we’ll practice on your speech after this. No spouse of mine is going to be so deprecating.”
Tumblr media
Leona Kingscholar
“You’re saying this is too hard for you?”
“Yeah.”
“Too bad.”
That's his mentality to a lot of your issues
As long as you're able to do what he wants he doesn’t care
Or so he says
He’ll slowly encourage you to respect yourself a bit more
And in his opinion his disregard for how you feel is better off in crushing your crappy reality
Now Ragnarok will probably have to survive multiple attempts at Leona trying to turn him to sand
“Stay still, so I can get this dirt off your back.”
“AAAA I’m  A Part of them, You CAn’t!”
“Try me.”

Antag Swap Ideas
Clown: Out of all of the 3 main games what cast do ya'll think Ouma would thrive with?? And why is it sdr2?/j Hina: Trigger Happy Havoc It is not SDR2, no way sksksksms Clown: Nah but I'm curious if any of you think he would have genuinely had a better time with the others Also shhh, let me pretend he'd have an easier time with hajime hinata Me: It's true, no pretending Hina: Well Makoto is the calmest dkdkkddk I just think THH as a whole tends to get less angry Not as many loud personalities to conflict with Me: There's no need to fight, he'd be way better off in either of those than in v3 Ves: kokichi in thh would be so funny. he is pulling celeste's pigtails
Hina: (Also I am going under the assumption by joining these casts he is replacing either Byakuya or Nagito respectively) Clown: Yeah same
Hina: Nagito would thrive in V3 Ves: he would be friends with tsumugi ..frenemies maybe Clown: HE WOULD BE Nagito would attach himself to kaede so fast And it will go so bad, but in a very funny way Hina: Byakuya in SDR2 would go well tbh There’s two of him Ves: I'M THE REAL BYAKUYA, KILL THE CLONE- Clown: He's the less cool byakuya everyone's gonna vote him off the island Me: Twogami [handshake emoji] Fuyuhiko - being the Cooler Dan to him
Me: Sdr2 Works because they're all like that. He wouldn't be outcasted. He doesn't reach the levels at which Nagito managed to cross the line of their tolerance Hina: See my thought with THH is having more calculated personalities, more people who are willing to work together. I think he’d have a better time as a leader in that cast Thh never outcasts anyone in the way the other games do Me: Oh yeah, he would be still able to antagonize a few people in thh and keep his shtick, it just would not escalate like in v3, because they have more integrity (low bar) and can be more normal about disliking someone. Sdr2 gang would be just not phased by this clown, they'd sense he's one of them (freaks) Ves: he'd fare better even in udg i think v3 is a uniquely unhinged cast Clown: Yeah!! This combined with the fact that hajime is just the type of person to push pass any frustration and think about what they can do (asking nagito for help when he needs it), akane being suprisingly good at reading people (like fuyuhiko), and even Hiyoko with her not being shy on putting out there that she has a grudge and doubts. For ouma in THH tho, what would his relationship with kirgiri be like? Hina: I think it’d be a mutual respect Maybe not besties I don’t think she trusts him But she can respect him Clown: I could see him getting along with chihiro and sakura too, and sayaka Okay yeah I can see how he would've been Ballin in literally any of the other two casts Sakuras gonna shove him to the side and go "Actually I'm the one who's gonna sacrifice myself to further our goal to end the killing game" and then they fight/j Having a play fight over who takes the last bottle of poison (the rest are shattered on the floor) Apollo: I love Kokichi and Chihiro friendship
Clown: Okay but imagining ouma in thh oh man, so much. IF the first murder still is Sayaka breaking down and going for it I can imagine him doing his silly little warnings towards her. But since she is not the main driving force of the group like kaede was how differently would it affect him?? And with the sakura situation, that fucker never sleeps. Like kirgiri he is sticking his nose everywhere. I could see him finding out that sakura is hiding something, and begin to needle her about it. Offhand comments here and there. And sakura is smart, and more than that she isnt rash, she'd confront him about it in private almost immediately. And she wouldn't try to kill him. Maybe she would tell him or maybe not but she isn't violent with him and she doesn't fit his view of a murderer. DOUBTS.

So Toga says she can't get it out (her quirk) and that she tried using, and while she should be able to because she "loves" Tomura and Touya-kun, she just can't. Ochako notices how unhappy all the Twice clones are.
I think the... factor in all this is going to be Toga realizing how broken all of them are...were. That without Twice to hold things up, the League fell apart precisely because of what Compress told us:
"A collection of warped minds who never bothered prying into each other's pasts."
This wasn't a good thing. It was good for acceptance, but it wasn't what they needed all along because most of them were hurting regardless. They didn't feel a need to open up with another, especially outside of Twice and Toga, and that's the problem because so much of this manga is about trusting others, reaching out to others and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. Sako straight up told us that in the end they didn't fully do that. Twice's quirk depends on "knowing" stuff about the other person. Twice would memorize things he measured to have some good spatial idea of the person. But Toga functions differently. To her knowing someone is likely something else entirely and in a space like the League, where outside of Jin and his open humanity, she didn't fully grasp the others.
To put in real life terms, there's friendships where you enjoy things with other people, where you work for similar goals, but you come out from meeting up still not knowing the other people well. You have no idea of their inner life, their inner thoughts. And that's what's happened here. It wasn't deep enough, I think, and that's the tragedy of it all. Where they wanted love and acceptance, in trying to create a facsimile of it, there just wasn't openness to start with.
Sure they wanted a place where they'd be accepted who they are, but that's not the end all be all of friendships and friend groups. The next steps to really get to know each other were not taken as a group. And we're seeing the result here. They're splintering. They should have pried.
It just wasn't enough and now it's gone.

Since you like talking about relationships, I've got one I've been rotating in my head but can't really figure out: Kal'tsit and Muelsyse. They're both extremely long lived and, judging from Mumu's song, it's a major source of pain for her. But their personalities, at least on the face, are so totally different. I imagine they'd take quite a while to figure each other's shit out, since neither seems inclined to speak clearly or trust anyone more than necessary, leading to a dynamic that evolves quite a bit, and for a long time, perhaps to the confusion of less observant peers.
With both being practically the urban fantasy equivalent of long lived archmages with aching hearts, as well as experts on their particular fields, there's quite a few parallels one could make between them and their interactions would be very fascinating indeed!
However, I think you touched upon something that I think is both important and a bit different from how you put it: A main difference between Kal'tsit and Muelsyse is, in fact, that Kal'tsit does allow herself to trust in others, while Muelsyse keeps her cards close to her chest, even among those who she supposedly trusts.
Kal'tsit isn't naive, but she does in fact allow herself to trust others... A whole lot, in fact. She believed and trusted Theresa, and still tries to carry out her goals, she trusts in Amiya, not just because Theresa chose her, but because she really believes she's got what it takes. She trusts Rhodes Island Operators so much that, even though she's a powerhouse herself, she doesn't handle everything that Rhodes Island has going on and even has some Operators she implicitly trusts enough to let them handle some seriously dangerous stuff either under her or by being her extension in other endeavors she can't be there for personally, such as Margaret Nearl and Elysium. Reluctantly, she trusts in Doctor's abilities and temperament, in part out of necessity, in part because love it or hate it, Theresa did trust Doctor quite a lot, and so she'll trust in Theresa's trust.
Muelsyse, on the other hand? Her 'trust' is hugely utilitarian. Her choice of joining up with Rhine Lab was born out of necessity, as she judged that Kirsten and company would be her very best bet to achieve her own goals, but that backstabbing environment doesn't particularly allow one to make good friends or trust anyone too easily. In fact, during Mansfield Break, Muelsyse quite literally couldn't compute why Silence would be helping Anthony (Mountain) without ulterior motives: The fact that Silence would do it first and foremost out of the goodness of her heart was unbelievable to Muelsyse, because it goes against everything she's learned, especially in Rhine Lab. In a way, one could argue this is where she started changing a little, and it brought to mind how Saria was legitimately trying to be there for Ifrit because Saria legitimately holds affection for her, which Muelsyse thought was a load of barnacles before, at least without any sort of further objective or ulterior motive. Hell, Muelsyse's character song is a perfect fit for her: Chipper and energetic, yet, the lyrics are very sad and lonely.
I think a dynamic between Kal'tsit and Muelsyse would fundamentally be very... Curt, initially. All business from Kal'tsit's end, because Muelsyse has yet to earn her trust, all plastic smiles and idle hands from Muelsyse, because unless Kal'tsit can verifiably be of use to her beyond being a bigwig at RI, she doesn't need to know her.
But Kal'tsit grows on you, you know? Doctor's not the only one with those people skills... Perhaps they are at another level altogether, given they can handle even the freakiest freaks and weirdos and wrangle friendship out of them, but to say Kal'tsit isn't formidable in the arena of trust is but a lie. She'd get in, I'm sure. Muelsyse would see someone akin to her in ways other Terrans simply could never achieve, and while they are very different in terms of demeanor... Well, so are Kal'tsit and Closure, and Kal'tsit and Warfarin, two good friends of hers. Kal'tsit can definitely deal with Muelsyse's antics, and I think Muelsyse would enjoy seeing someone so similar to her in so many ways that can also allow herself to trust others. Maybe Kal'tsit could be important in just that: Muelsyse allowing herself to trust more.

here to hopefully help out with some spare change for the RO scenarios- how'd they be as parents? thanks and have a lovely day!
thank you for your spare change lol.
so what I'll say is that not all of the RO's would like to be parents--and I'll specify which ones would/wouldn't, but I'll write about the ones who would :)
nash: would love to potentially have kids one day. he's an uncle to a niece (that he's unfortunately yet to meet :c but is very desperate to.) He'd be very hands on I think--and big on his kids education. I think he'd prefer to raise them out west, beneath the big open skies he's fallen in love with, but he also wouldn't mind heading back to buffalo so that his kids could be more connected with his parents and brother. He'd want a couple kids--he wouldn't think it fair to leave behind an only child when he passed away--and his relationship with his own brother is one of his most treasured friendships.
cyrus: he's...well...he's complicated about kids. on one hand, he'd love to have them, he thinks...but on the other...he's not sure if his heart could take that. not again.
rose: rose took a large part in raising her five siblings, to a point where she views them as her own children, and doesn't think she could handle having any more of her own, nor does she really want them. as a parent she's a hard-ass, very tough on her siblings (but that's only because she loves them so much) she's very protective--but she also believes in pushing them to their fullest potential.
dominic: could not imagine himself as a parent. he can barely handle himself (?) and you expect him to look after another living thing(?) secretly he thinks he wouldn't mind it...but he doesn't trust himself to not fuck it up.
celina: never in a million years would celina sokolova be caught with a child. she is much too happy with her animals. (if this were modern times you KNOW she'd be like a millenial dog mom with an instagram account for her shih tzu and it'd be named something stupid like placek)
hollis: similar boat as dominic--they wouldn't mind a family--but they do not trust themselves to not ruin their kid.
ace: kids was the dream--especially with abrams. a little farm somewhere where they could run around, and ace could grow old surrounded not only by their children, but their grandchildren as well. they'd be loving, much like their own parents were--but tough.
ethel: has a habit of spoiling her kid. not to say that she's a quintessential Boy Mom TM but ethel is a boy mom lmao. Arthur is her little prince, who in her eyes can do no wrong. She wants him to have more than she ever had growing up, and she'll do whatever she can to make that happen.
cassidy: views arthur as his own, so there's a pretty clear indicator of what he'd be like as a father there. Cassidy's father was an evil son of a bitch, so cas is determined to break that cycle with arthur--he's gentle, he's kind--and doesn't behave the way he does with arthur with anyone else.
reyes: she's ambivalent about kids. on one hand the staunch catholic in them very much subscribes to the 'be fruitful and multiply' mindset...but on the other--they're afraid she'd ruin them.
montero: would definitely be on the r/childfree subreddit LMFAO. not a fan of kids, not in a million years.
adam: he's always been curious about fatherhood--he'd like to one day, to have something to call his own, to have a child...he supposes that is most likely the end goal here--but is he ready? he doesn't know.

Years ago, I had a fanfic idea where the SMT protagonists replace the heroes of the Persona games. The joke was that they're all these badass fighters who could easily sweep the dungeons with their skill and experience, but they're also hilariously bad at the real life segments.
The fic didn't really work out, probably because I was trying to use too many games and too many characters, but I still like the idea.
So, let's say that one week after the end of their games, the heroes of SMT were put in the role of Joker from Persona 5 (the Persona game I played most recently).
The Outsiders
Aleph, Flynn, and Nanashi aren't from modern Japan, and they'd have a hell of a time trying to adapt.
Aleph would be an absolute disaster. He's a toddler in a man's body raised by a gladiator coach who thought he was rehabilitating an amnesiac. It's a miracle the lad can read.
That's not to say that Aleph is dumb; he couldn't go through his game if he couldn't make informed decisions for himself. He just lacks formal education, social awareness, and casual life experience.
At the very least, when something's going on that he doesn't understand, Aleph has learned to stay quiet and go with the flow. He'd probably be fine socially, especially as a silent protagonist who needs to listen more than he speaks.
On the other hand, Aleph is missing a ton of common knowledge, even more than the average resident of Tokyo Millennium. Everyone assumes he knows more than he does, especially since he doesn't always say when he doesn't know something.
If there's any nonstandard ending, it would be "Aleph fails all his quizzes, exams, and homework, and is expelled."
Nanashi is the opposite. Like Aleph, he doesn't know societal conventions, but unlike Aleph, he doesn't care about breaking them. Aleph came from the gutter and was told he could strive higher; Nanashi came from the gutter and he knows he can survive there.
My favored Nanashi is "Anarchy but made all the friendship choices." He's gotten to a point where he likes people but knows he doesn't need them. All social limits are artificial; why conform?
He's someone who sees a straight line between himself and his goals, and doesn't need to care about what other people think of him. He would not play along with any of the targets' threats, especially because he doesn't have the same kind of social context. Ooh, Kamoshida's going to get him expelled; do I even need school? Sure, Madarame, send the police after me; have you seen what I did to the last people who came after me? Medjed threatens to crash the Japanese economy; what does that even mean? He'd only see Kaneshiro as a problem, since Makoto is in immediate danger when they meet.
(He would at least try to make sure that the others wouldn't go down with him. If he gets expelled, he'll do his best not to drag Ryuji and Mishima down with him.)
Nonstandard ending: before Morgana mentions the change of heart, Nanashi straight up murders Kamoshida and spends the rest of the game evading justice.
Flynn is in a state of constant stress. This isn't his first time as a fish out of water, but at least his Tokyo had a high tolerance for weirdness. He's more socially aware than Aleph or Nanashi, but he knows little about modern Japanese culture and manners, and he knows that.
Flynn's personality took me the longest, but since SMT4 has no room for error in alignments, I think of him as an anxious perfectionist. He doesn't know why, but he's keenly aware that if he says or does just one thing wrong, it will all end in disaster.
Strangers see Flynn as cool, calm, and collected, but that's because he's afraid to let on that he doesn't know as much as they do. Of all the Phantom Thieves, he'd relate the most to Futaba, who also feels like a stranger to this city.
I feel like he'd have to pull the, "I'm a foreign exchange student" card a lot, and leaves other people to assume which country he's from. The only other countries he knows are France (from Isabeau's manga), Russia, China (Infernal Akira can ask if Mikado is in Russia or China), and maybe America.
Nonstandard ending: Flynn has no idea what a train is. Flynn gets lost on the way to school and never finds his way back. The end.
The High School Students
Kazuya, Naoki, and V-kun were high school students when their games began, so they wouldn't be too bad at modern times or school life. It's everything else that's the problem.
The way I see Kazuya, he had to grow and adapt to the postapocalypse more than anyone else. He's a fragile human with no special enhancements or any real support net. To survive, he had to be tough, he had to be stubborn, he had to assert his dominance and take no shit from anyone. He stayed alive by shutting down his feelings and only showing weakness to the people he trusted. That's how he became the best demon summoner.
That also makes him the worst Wild Card. He's terrible at making friends; other people would have to put in the effort to break his armor. His comrades might easily write him off as a bossy control freak, and they'd only associate with him when they need help.
Persona 5's Confidants do usually begin with Joker wanting someone's help (Tae's medicine, Iwai's guns, etc.), so he might have a bit of an easier time starting the Social Link than in other games, but he'd probably screw it up somehow.
He's a good person, but he's terrible at expressing it because demons would see it as a weakness.
Since the mask he wears is so thick, he'd probably have a powerful starting Persona. At the same time, he wouldn't really experience an identity crisis; he knows who he is under the mask, and has no trouble being himself around the people he loves.
Also, something I see in him more than any other protagonist is that he's willing to cut ties with the party members if he disagrees with their methods, even if he doesn't have a solution. All of the heroes fight their friends, but for some reason it struck me the most that Kazuya didn't have a plan to fix Tokyo when he fought the Messians and Gaians (who for all their faults, did). If he disagrees with the other Phantom Thieves, he's leaving.
And on a lighter note, Kazuya might know exactly where in Tokyo to find real guns: the antique shop in Kichijoji.
Ryuji: "Check out what I got!" *takes out fake gun*
Kazuya: "Look at what I have." *takes out real gun*
Ryuji: "Hey, cool, you found that store that sells fake guns!"
Kazuya: "...Yes. I found the store that sells fake guns."
Nonstandard ending: Kazuya refuses to use the change of heart because he saw with his own eyes how messing with minds destroyed Aoi (the heroine) from the inside. Kazuya leaves the Phantom Thieves and brings the targets to justice his own way, probably by use of demons.
Naoki is the opposite. He had to toughen up, but he never had to put on a mask. Unlike Kazuya, demons don't see him as prey by default, and now he's strong enough to beat any other demon to death with his bare hands. Demons won't think any less of him if he gets weepy and emotional. (Although admittedly, this was because I think it's funny for the strongest being in the universe to be shy and awkward.)
I see Naoki as traumatized. He wants to be left alone and isn't fully comfortable returning to ordinary student life. At the same time, he's 'just' going to be quiet and antisocial; if he does end up talking to people, he wouldn't shoot himself in the foot like Kazuya. He'd get along fine with his teammates... if he had any.
Nocturne is the only game where you have no human battle companions (vanilla SMT V barely passes with Tao, and Yuzuru and Ichiro are still fighting on your side, just elsewhere). The only competent human helping the Demi-Fiend is Hijiri, who is strictly a noncombatant. In other words, Naoki's not used to fighting alongside humans.
It wouldn't occur to Naoki to bring Ryuji to the Metaverse. Morgana, yes, because he already has a Persona, but Ryuji can't defend himself. So maybe he'd confide in Ryuji and ask for his help in the real world, but he wouldn't become a party member.
Most of the subsequent party members join because of the others. Yusuke follows Ann, Makoto figures out they're the Phantom Thieves because of how they hang around each other, etc.
Nonstandard ending: that ending gambit required a bunch of people working together.
With V-kun, it's a different story. The question is no longer, "how would his experiences make him a bad Persona user;" it's now, "how does the plot work if he's literally God?" I think there's a fun crack fic where he tries to juggle being the rebellious leader of the Phantom Thieves while he's also doing God stuff. And since Law is the only ending that leaves the status quo setting intact, he's not also running Bethel, he seeks to control the world through faith like Yaldabaoth. The irony is staggering.
There also needs to be an excuse for why he doesn't use his God powers to instantly solve all the Confidants' problems. Sure, human problems must be solved with human means, but there's "reconnect with your mother and discuss what is truly important to you," and then there's "get out of this predatory cult that blackmails tons of people," and "I need help developing this lifesaving medicine but I'm being blocked by the establishment." If he's trying to be a benevolent god, he'd want to solve those problems anyways.
And, of course, there's the obligatory climax where the Phantom Thieves discover that their leader is God, feel betrayed, but then remember that their friendships were genuine.
Nonstandard ending: "Hey, Igor, Aogami tells me that you're not what you seem. Care to explain?"
Misc.
The Confidants with these guys would be hilarious.
Aleph needs Ryuji and Mishima to explain the concept of a maid fetish to him. When he does end up hiring Ms. Kawakami, he has no idea why anyone would be interesting in anything but cleaning. Not because he doesn't know what sex is, but because he knows that you can hire actual prostitutes.
I think it's cool that Chiyaha has actual psychic powers unrelated to Personas. So her readings turn up the actual pasts of the heroes, but most are so outlandish that she doesn't believe what she sees. "...It says that you're God."
In a separate fic, I wrote (but have not yet published) a bit where Kazuya buys three Holy Stones from Chihaya because he bought that kind of shady stuff from the Messians and Gaians all the time.
Nanashi is unimpressed with Kaneshiro and his threats. The Ashura-Kai did so much worse to everyone in Tokyo, and both of the bosses he knew could do things like throw lightning and fire at people who pissed them off. Kaneshiro is just a man with money. His thugs don't even have guns! Nanashi is going to murder everyone in that room.

No pressure ifbyou arent taking writing requests, but i would love to see what you could do based off the song Battle Cries by The Amazing Devil
It gives me Skyward Sword vibes
Link stared at the loftwing feather held gingerly between his fingers.
The last few months had been... difficult. In some ways, they'd been more difficult than his actual journey to rescue Zelda and stop Demise. The pain of pushing his body past its breaking point, the anguish of never seeming to be enough, the heartache of always missing Zelda... they had amounted to such invisible wounds that he was still fighting the repercussions.
Somehow, that was worse. How was one supposed to move on when such a life altering event happened? How did one jolt out of the keep moving keep going don't ever stop or falter for a second and not just... collapse? How did one get back up after doing so?
The world continued to move ahead. His academy still had classes, though chatter of the Surface and its exploration was still a hot topic, even six months after the cloud barrier's disappearance.
The first month it had been acceptable, even understandable. Link had nearly died from his final fight, it had been one thing too many in a collection of wounds and exhaustion. Despite the healing affects of the life fruit he'd been given, he'd still slept for nearly a week upon his return to Skyloft. And after that, the headmaster had ensured he didn't have any kind of workload. Zelda had been at his side constantly, and the two had silently enjoyed each other's company, seemingly cut off from the rest of their people.
But that had been understandable. It had been a long journey. They would never be the same.
However, that didn't excuse this exhaustion lingering for so long. By the fourth month, Link was nearing a point of despair. It wasn't until Commander Eagus spoke to him candidly, told him of the affects on his mind after such an event (no one on Skyloft truly comprehended what had happened on the Surface, but some had put more pieces together than they probably should have). After all, Eagus had become commander when his own commanding officer had fallen in battle. Eagus hadn't fought as Link had, but he still understood to a small degree.
It had helped. To a point. Knowing that his mind needed time was good, that he wasn't just defective, but... it still didn't make it any easier to bear sometimes.
And that was only covering half of the issue. Eagus only spoke from a soldier's perspective. Link had seen more than battle. He'd watched his best and dearest friend become someone else entirely, he'd been told that their friendship was a carefully constructed plan, that he was a weapon as much as Fi had been.
He still hung around Zelda. She still hovered close to him. She'd said it herself, she was still his Zelda. But it... wasn't the same.
He tried not to think about it. After all, he did still love her. After all, she hadn't known any of the plan their entire lives.
But it stung. It stung. Because now... if he had been chosen for this purpose, and if Zelda had been born in the right circumstances so as to befriend him... now what?
What was his purpose now that his journey was over? Now that Demise had been defeated?
Link had never really had much of a plan for his life, honestly. He'd daydreamed his time away, relaxing and just enjoying being with Zelda and his loftwing, enjoying sights and smells and warmth and comfort. He was in the knight's academy, so becoming a knight was obviously a goal, but he had never felt particularly motivated for major life goals. He wasn't much of a planner, certainly not that far ahead.
But now... all he could think about was the future. All he could think was now what?
He knew, though. He knew what to do next. Because six months was enough time to let himself float in this haze of existing and not existing. He also knew it probably wouldn't get entirely better. But life wasn't going to stop just because he had, and for once, that meant something to him.
Link carefully wove the feather shaft into the leather cords, tying it in its place. He'd added beads to the headdress already - his loftwing's contribution was the final touch.
Because yes, he was tired. And yes, he wasn't entirely sure if his mind would ever clear of the fog that had crushed it since his journey's end. But no matter how he felt, his perception of hte world didn't change how it was.
Zelda was still there for him. The Surface was vast, endless even, and so, so new and different. The Triforce needed protecting. Zelda had already made plans for a settlement, and, with Groose's help, was in the process of setting foundations, while Link cleared the area of threats. There was hope, there was new life and a future and things beyond Link's comprehension.
His loftwing purred, bumping his beak against Link's forehead.
Link chuckled, nuzzling into his companion's feathery cheek, melting into the softness of it. "Yeah, I know. Let's go for a flight and then I'll go to her."
Crimson chittered excitedly, moving quickly towards the edge and diving off the island. Link stood there a moment, alone, and then smiled, tucking the headdress into his pouch. He felt anxiety hold him hostage a moment, and then he broke free of it, running full speed to the island's end and leaping with every ounce of energy he had.
The air whipped and whooshed around him, slamming into him layer after layer as he crashed through the sky. His wounds and worries were left behind, and he yelled in excitement and joy, he screamed in defiance at everything that weighed him down.
At the end of the day, nothing could clip his wings. Not even himself. He refused to let it.
Putting his fingers to his mouth, Link whistled shrilly, and his loftwing immediately came. He could always rely on Crimson. He knew, in the end, he could also always rely on Zelda.
And that headdress, alongside a traditional dance, would be the start of a physical representation of that.
In the meantime, his mind and heart soared with his loftwing, and he laughed as he flew through the sky.

Shopping and makeup with Svetlana!!
Requested by one of my friends! :] (sorry if this is kinda OOC, It's my first time writing for her - meant to be seen as platonic, but read it however you like <3) - (also originally written for a younger reader, but I made sure it was readable both ways.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~♡♡♡~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Take her to Sephora. PLEASE. She will love you forever.
She’s not really picky when it comes to makeup brands
She’ll use anything that looks nice, but she does have her favourites
(I know nothing about makeup so I can’t really specify brands)
You guys would probably go into H&M too
She’d want to do a little fashion show with you, even if you don’t end up buying anything.
Pick a handful of outfits, show them off to each other <3
She would POSE. And I mean POSE. Dramatic, wonderful poses. Very over the top /pos
WILL ask you to take pictures.
She’ll take pictures of you too!! (If you’re comfortable with that)
She’ll make a collage of all your photos and outfits, making it all pretty and sparkly like a magazine
I don’t think she’s big on mall lunches
Likes the place itself, but not the food.
Probably somewhat of a picky eater
She does like McDonald’s though
Gets you a happy meal if you want one
“Excuse me, they asked for no pickles!” (or with pickles, if you like them.)
Will help you exchange the toy you get if you don’t like it
100% has a collection of the Squishimallows and little bears they used to have a few years ago.
Like. The ones that had blue, and purple with polka dots, and there was a pink one? She has all of them in a shoebox on a shelf somewhere.
(Will 100% let you play with them btw. And she's playing too. Have a doll house? That's their new home. Don't have one? Making one out of cardboard ASAP)
Definitely gets either strawberry fruitopia, sprite, or iced tea.
Big fan of their soft serve cones
She’ll take you to any stores you wanna go to. May get distracted by shiny things, but she’ll look around a shop you like, even if she isn’t a fan of it. (may complain, but not in a mean way. Just silly little comments)
"Ooh! Now look at this shirt! This would look so wonderful on you. We are getting it!"
DANGLY EARRINGS!!! PLEASE! She LOVES those. Will hold them up to her ears and make them sway back and forth really quickly, Giggling like a maniac. A sweet one, of course. She just gets so excited over them. ESPECIALLY if they’re shiny in the light.
Tbh I don't think they have their ears pierced. I imagine they'd be a little too scared to actually do that, so she probably has clip on ones.
Anyways back to the makeup stuff I got sidetracked
Loves the little sample lipsticks and stuff you can put on your wrist to see the colour
Tries ALL of them
Stop her before their whole arm is covered in different shades of pink and red lipstick
LOVESSS the perfume bottles you can test out. Smells all of them, and tries them on.
Makeup time!!
Later in the night, or maybe the day after, she'd want to try all sorts of different makeup styles with you
Tries some herself, tries some on you, and has you try some on her!
You have full creative control here! Go wild!
Even if it's messy, she'll love it. Staring at it in one of those little round table mirrors, just kinda admiring your work :)
I think she'd try her best to sit still, and do a pretty good job, but she'd be super excited so maybe a little bit jittery, for lack of better words.
Doing your makeup!!
I think she'd have a really steady hand
Perfect lines, not pressing too hard or too soft, she's just really good at it.
Smiling and telling you how gorgeous you look the whole time
(Friendship goals fr)
"So beautiful. So so beautiful. With and without! Look at you!"
I bet you can't tell which one of them is my favorite (sarcastic)
I'll make another post later about Nadia because I love her so much I might need therapy 😭
I'm participating in brainrot's Vesuvia Weekly prompts and I'd like to encourage eveyone to join ^.^
Also, brainrot has a Discord server now, so if you're interested in getting to know others from the fandom and bond over our beloved character, I kindly recommend that you join. It's a safe place for every simp 💜
The Arcana Main 6 x Dara relationship dynamics
Asra: There is some romantic potential between the two, but it's not very much. They were childhood friends and are still very close. Because of that, people often mistake them for lovers. When I say they are close, I really mean it. Asra has no problem hopping into Dara's bed for some cuddles and he's one of the very few people who are allowed to touch them. They pretty much go everywhere together and even though they have separate beds in the shop, they often end up sharing. He's invited to every family gathering and special occasion. Dara can be a little oblivious when it comes to how others feel about them (coughs coughs Nadia coughs choughs), but Asra, being the cheeky person that he is, doesn't shy away from letting them know that a certain Countess might be in love with them. Asra was the first person Dara kissed, btw.
Nadia: Oh I could talk about these two all day. True love. That's it, true love. They met during the plague and quickly fell in love with each other. However, they didn't confess their love until after Nadia woke up from her coma. Dara is introverted but warm and patient, which is something that can be said about Nadia as well. Their relationship is as comfortable as it is passionate, filled with affection and care. They're both givers, which means they spoil each other 24/7 with gifts and all forms of affection. Neither of them trusts easily, but since they're both patient and kind, opening up was not a big issue (except that one incident but that's gonna be explained in Wounds of Magic, Scars of Love.) Nadia is Dara's favorite person in the entire world and they're giving her the special treatment. They seem like an open person, but there's still so much that they hide about themselves. Not from Nadia, tho. Nadia is the only person that Dara tells everything. They have some trauma, and so far, Nadia has been the only one they completely trusted with it. Whenever something happens, Dara's first thought is that they have to go and tell Nadia about it. No one is allowed to touch Dara without asking for first (except Asra and maybe a handful of other people), but Nadia is always an exception. Actually, Dara wishes she would touch them all the time. There is something about the Countess that makes Dara feel things that no one else ever has before. It's a relationship based on lots of love and mutual respect. When it's just them, everything feels so easy. They can be just Nadia and Dara with each other and I think that's beautiful. There's no pressure, no expectations. Just love. If there was a love story about a star and the moon, it would be about them. Hand in marriage when?
Julian: Dara can't really decide how they feel towards Julian. On the one hand, they'd party with him. On the other hand, they're giving him a bombastic side-eye. Julian is not bad and Dara is okay with hanging out with him once in a while, but they can't imagine getting any closer to him. However, sometimes they hang out at the Rowdy Raven and chat over some drinks and they worked together during the plague. When they share a common goal, they're willing to work together towards it.
Muriel: Sweet Muriel is a childhood friend of Dara. They drifted apart but later rekindled their friendship. Or more like, Muriel tolerates Dara more than he would with other people. Dara isn't someone who would force anyone, which is something that Muriel appreciates. However, Dara makes sure that Muriel never feels forgotten. Whenever Dara goes somewhere, they bring him back a little gift or occasionally show up at his hut to say hi, bring some goodies, and pet Inanna. Whenever there's an occasion, Dara invites Muriel and sadly, he often says no, but Dara lets him know that they could hang out later. Just the two of them. They both like chickens. Dara sometimes asks if they could hug Muriel.
Portia: Besties. They bake together and gossip together. When Dara and Portia sit down, they simply can't resist spilling all the latest tea. You know what TikTok trend about whoever brings up xy has to pay first? Yeah, it's them. I swear to gayness, they're like two grandmas. They pet and feed stray cats. Maybe occasionally bring them back to the Palace until Nadia says it's enough. Portia is someone that Dara trusts and considers a true friend. Lots of inside jokes and uncontrollable laughter. They also think that she's cute.
Lucio: Another character with romantic potential. At first, Dara just wanted to punch him. Now they want to punch him and then make out with him and it really confuses them. They're still salty about the way Lucio treated Nadia, but they also understand that Lucio is in some serious need of a therapist. With that being said, Dara is someone that Lucio can talk to about his past. As soon as they begin to understand why Lucio is the way he is, their judgement and hatred for him starts to disappear. When Lucio had the plague, Dara did their best to ease his suffering. If he ever needs a shoulder to cry on or just someone who listens, Dara is always available. They want to get drunk with him.
