There's a post going around Tumblr about the color palette of your name (I saw @prodogg do it) and I tried it but my name has a very boring color palette so I did Atla characters instead.
Aang:
Tumblr media
Okay! All of them are very bright colors that represent Aang's bright attitude and there's a dark shade at the top row which brings to mind the flaws of his character. Personally, I feel like that dark brown represents the guilt Aang feels for leaving. We also have some yellow and soft red, which are the colours of his outfit. There's some light grey that reminds me of his eyes and pretty light blue and beige, breezy light his element. We have some blue, some yellow, some green and some red. True Avatar core right there.
Katara:
Tumblr media
Ohhh~ So many pretty blues! Blue eyes, blue clothes, blue nation, blue element and so on. Once again, I feel like the dark color in the third row represents the more bitter parts of Katara personality. Her small moments of jealousy, spite and harness. I also like how all the blues are different shades, some coming close to grey, others close to green and some being pure blue. The variety of shades really shows what I well rounded character she is.
Sokka:
Tumblr media
Oh my... That's unexpected... There's only one shade of blue! But I can see some pretty browns and greys in there that are in his colour palette. I wonder why there are so many greens... Probably because he's one of the only characters that are grounded to earth 😂 maybe even a bit too much, seeing how he's always suspicious and doubtful. There are also some snow-like colours in here, which is fitting, seeing as he's from the Water Tribe 😎.
Suki:
Tumblr media
That's a very interesting palette... The brown colours remind me of the Earth Kingdom, but there's a snowy white in there, probably because of how close Kyoshi Island is to the Southern Water Tribe. There's also a bit of green in there, even if it's greyish, and I couldn't help but notice those dark shades of red... Is it because she relocated in the Fire Nation after the war, and is currently working as Zuko's bodyguard? I also see a few really dark shades in those top corners, although I'm not surprised. Suki is a warrior through and through, and sometimes warriors have to do some ugly things to protect their homes.
Toph:
Tumblr media
No surprises here! I like how Toph has more dark shades than other characters, since she's more in touch with her "dark side" after participating in secret wrestling matches and pulling all those scams. Many shades of green and brown, like her element and her country. But there's also some very light greens in there, so light that they could pass as white or grey, which is unlike the usual Earth Kingdom greens. I wonder if it's because she uses her bending in a much different way that all the other earthbenders, which makes her special. Or it could be because that's the color of her eyes.
Zuko:
Tumblr media
That palette is an interesting one for sure. There are so many dark colours in here! And as we all know, the Prince of the Fire Nation didn't have a very happy life, or a very bright attitude. There's a dark brown-red in here and a dark blackish green, along with some blues and greys and a brownish gold. I wonder if it's because of his travels to all the four nations during his search for the Avatar. And I'm loving the references to the Blue Spirit with all those blues in there. Zuko's second, secret persona is a big deal for his character, since all the times we've seen him wear that mask, we've also gotten hints for his future redemption and friendships.
Azula:
Tumblr media
Ah, there we go. My favorite girl! Right of the top we have some dark shades, fitting for s true vigilante. There's some brown-ish gold abd black, which brings her hair and eyes to mind. A pretty shade of red, for a true Fire Nation Princess. The lack of blue surprises me, seeing as her fire and her lighting are both blue... I guess the website must believe that she is much more than her bending. And there's quite a lot of green I see... Probably because her peak as a strategist and warrior was conquering Ba Sing Se and bringing the Earth Kingdom to its knees, all while wearing the iconic green Kyoshi Warrior uniform and the even more iconic green Earth Queen outfit.

Have any zukka au tidbits you wanna gush about?
ABSOLUTELY!! (most of this post will be hidden under the keep reading option this was way longer then i intended lol)
first au ive been thinking a lot about lately is the Zuko Sun spirit AU. this au can be so beautifully tragic and it can end on a good note, a bad note, or a bittersweet note, depending on which way you approach it! zuko can join the gaang early or join up with them in the canon timeline. anyways, in my version toph asks why zuko has these crazy golden eyes that everyone else seems to talks about, and zuko explains this long story about how he was born sick and was blessed with the sun spirit and how it affected his eyes, yada yada yada. meanwhile, sokka, katara, and aang are looking at him with a mixture of shock, grief, and horror in their expression, with sokka visibly being the most affected by this story. both toph and zuko are visibly confused as to why the rest of the gaang is suddenly acting this way, but they don't know the story of yue. (may or may not be making a mini comic related to this titled "havent we heard this story before" hehe).
after this katara, aang, and sokka act crazy protective of zuko, sokka specifically. you think sokka already had 'sacrificial' tendencies? well that was just increased tenfold. this irritates and confuses zuko more but they just refuse to tell him why for a multitude of reasons (not wanting to freak him out, worrying that the same thing that happened to yue will happen to zuko if they tell him etc etc).
my OTHER aus that I love is just blue spirit zuko and kyoshi warrior sokka. anything involving these two I just adore, it's so much fun and there's so much comedic potential in this. my other favorite version is a season 1 version where sokka starts working with zuko while disguised as a kyoshi warrior.
zuko doesn't recognize kyoshi warrior sokka at all (it's like the clark kent with his glasses except sokka puts on the hothead red eyeshadow lmao) and sokka manages to convince him that he's here to help him catch aang. the kicker is he purposefully gives zuko false information on the avatars whereabouts so zuko is just traveling all around the world with false info looking for the avatar while sokka and the rest kick back and enjoy the show lmao. the major downside of this is zuko grows to consider sokka as a friend, and as sokka learns more and more about him and how tragic his story is he finds himself feeling a bit guilty with purposefully leading zuko on a wild goose chase, but knowing he has to do it to protect his sister and aang. he feels very conflicted.
any au that discusses sokka working with zuko an as engineer, an ambassador, senior advisor etc etc. bonus points if the au really focuses in on sokka's traumas and chronic pain involving his leg and his journey on healing, finding self worth and possibly finding love wink wink!

so I have seen the new trailer for the live action ATLA adaptation and I think I'm actually feeling more optimistic about it. Generally when an animated product is adapted to live action, I want to see something new in the production and storytelling that justifies why this story benefits from being re-created in a live action format, while still maintaining the overall heart and spirit of the animated original. Most of the disney live action remakes, for example, have failed to meet this bar.
Where I'm feeling a little more optimistic with the ATLA remake is because the format almost necessitates some pretty significant structural changes to the story. You can't take something like season one of ATLA, which was incredibly episodic and designed for Nickelodeon syndication in 30 minute blocks, and stitch it into eight hour-long episodes on a serialized, binge-watching style platform like Netflix without making changes. You just can't.
What I'm hoping they do with these changes is that instead of trying to frankenstein the story together, they pick and choose which elements matter and which do not. And then I want to see the storylines they keep get greater focus and more elevation than they received in the original. One of the benefits of a remake is that you already have the finished project to build off- you know what matters, you know what doesn't, and you can work with that to craft a tighter story while giving appropriate expansion and depth to elements of it that might have been overlooked in the original. The way Suki and the Kyoshi warriors have been billed and marketed gives me a lot of hope for this- when Bryke were first creating ATLA, they had no plans for Suki to be anything more than a one-off character, but she ended up Sokka's endgame love interest. The new show has the benefit of already knowing this.
Same thing applies to characters like Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee. We already know where their storylines end up, so they have the opportunity to expand and deepen all three of them without worrying about making things up as they go or maintaining any sense of mystery. And they have a lot of opportunity to play with Ozai's character too, given they don't have to keep him in the shadows for two whole seasons anymore- we already know he's a hot older version of Zuko, that reveal happened in 2007. Since they don't need to hide his face, they can actually show a lot more of him a lot earlier in the story. Again, I'm hopeful for this given that the trailers seem to be showing a lot of extra scenes with the Fire Nation characters and Azula and Ozai are both featured on the promotional poster.
Now, will I like the changes they make? That's an unknown. I might. I might hate them. We'll see- but at least it seems like there will be changes that, hopefully, will serve to justify why this remake deserves to exist. I do not want to see a shot-for-shot recreation of the animated series. I can already watch the cartoon.
That said, I still want to see the spirit of the original preserved. So far I like what I'm seeing from Netflix- the world looks pretty good, the animals, while obviously CGI, look faithfully rendered, the costumes are miles better than what we saw in the 2010 movie (though I have my reservations about the saturation of the blue in the water tribe coats), and the characters all look pretty accurate to their animated counterparts. The lighting is dark because lighting is dark in every show these days, and I'm not 100% on the color palette. But I was glad to see some of the humor has been retained in the trailer- we see Aang running into the statue like in the opening of the cartoon, Sokka has a few one-liners, and the shot with Momo was cute. I'm a little worried Iroh's humor won't translate well into live action, but we'll see what they do with that (I imagine they'll have to cut back on some of the slapstick, Saturday-morning-cartoon antics anyways).
I like most of the casting too, from what I've seen so far. Dallas Liu looks like he's gonna be a great Zuko, Kiawentiio I already knew from Anne with an E and I think she'll be a perfect Katara, and I think Ian Ousley will grow on me as Sokka. His line reads sounded good in the trailer. I'm a little concerned about Gordon Cormier, he looks the part perfectly but he is so young and I felt like his delivery in the trailer was just...lacking a bit. But I need to see more of him to really judge. And I love the casting of Elizabeth Yu for Azula, I love that she looks like a tiny baby. No one will mistake her for the older sibling in this version. And of course the adult cast I'm not worried about at all.
(bully any of these children online btw and die by my sword)
Will this show be good? I don't know. But I hope it will at least justify its existence to me as more than just a nostalgic cash grab. That's what I'm looking for first and foremost.

My views on the atla live action (6.8 out of 10)
Tumblr media
What I liked about atla live action:
-Zuko, aang, iroh, monk Gyasto and jets actors really knocked the ball out the park so far
- I liked how they showed that there were people in the fire nation who fought back regarding resisting the war, and how azula went undercover to expose them. That scene showed not all fire benders were bad or agreed to the war due to the loss of lives
-I liked how they portrayed monk gyasto and his bond with aang.
-The scene with the earth kingdom soldier, iroh and the scene with Lieu ten was amazingly done. It really captured how loss happened on both sides, while showcasing more of who lieu ten was as a person and also Zuko’s kind nature towards Iroh
-Iroh joining Zuko on the boat after his banishment was a beautiful scene
-the bending, costumes and music are on point
Issues
-Aang meeting kyoshi too early and learning about the attack on the northern water tribe which he shouldn’t know
-Suki and sokkas romance didn’t develop over sokka learning from his sexism. It takes away from their development since he had to learn to humble himself to become a better warrior.
-Azula didn’t bend or fight enough. Also Ozai hated Zuko and adored azula but here it seems azula is fighting for his approval? It takes away from her character. She had it ALL and Zuko didn’t. Also ozai did not care if zuko discovered aang he just wanted him to suffer. He hated his son but in this version they make it seem like he cares?
-Aang isn’t training enough at all. We only see katara training on her waterbending but she trained with aang too. In the series it focuses more on aang going to the northern water tribe rather than learning the elements and helping others along the way.
-Kataang needed more moments. So far they only had a few but I liked the one they shared in the final episode
-Sokka seems to not like aang? It seems like he’s only there for his own benefit when in the original he warms up to aang.
-Ozai learning of aangs existence too early on makes it less easy for aang to travel on his journey.
-Aang and sokka didn’t meet Jet
-katara saving haru and the earthbenders got scrapped which I would have loved to see
-The meaning of the cave of two lovers didn’t make sense. Also it didn’t help aang as he was not there to learn more about the badger moles and earth bending. Plus he kissed katara there, so that love development is gone.
-Wan shi tong shouldn’t be there in book 1 and sokka and katara shouldn’t be in the spirit world
-Where is Appa and momo? They barely are shown. If they were pets with zero presence I wouldn’t mind but in this series they are apart if the show but the live action doesn’t showcase them enough.
-No Jeong Jeong ? he was a huge character regarding the use of fire plus aang had trauma over fire bending. Will he still show up in the future if this is renewed?
-Azula shouldn’t lose her cool she seems like she’s already cracking and that’s not her character. She is perfect and that breaks her in book 3. Not book 1. Also her fire is not blue.
-Aang is a bit too focused on being the avatar i wish it wasn’t so strong at times
-The fog of souls shouldn’t have shown up. It make things a bit messy and unclear, especially including koh into it all.
-Rokus erased as aangs guide isn’t the best change since he’s tied to the reason why the war happened. Also he links to zukos bloodline and struggle of good and evil.

What are your top ten favorite scenes in Avatar the Last Airbender?
Hello again!
Ok… so ummm… they are in no particular order:
1. The last Agni Kai of course: The music, colors, emotions, the rise of one sibling & fall of another. I adored the red vs blue & of course the whole ‘self sacrificing Zuko’ lol
2. “get out of the bisons mouth Sokka”: It was just so funny to me Zuko was already done with everyone shit and he JUST joined the gaang imagine if he has joined season 1 hahah.
3. Zuko swimming into the NWT: because like…. You fucking idiot.
4. Anytime aang went into the avatar state (esp in season 1): he was such a goofy child then he would start to glow & there was so much power inside him idk I thought it added to his character a lot and reminded people that this kid is the fucking avatar
4. “Come back when the good is on the outside too”: or however the quote goes when iroh came to get the gaangs help to save Zuko and Sokka once again was just like nahhh fuck that guy. (This also goes along with the Sokka wanting to leave Zuko to die in the snow - I just love he wasn’t having any of zukos shit)
5. Zukos gay fire breath and sokkas bi awakening: because for an early 2000s show that was hella gay
6. Zuko blue spiriting to save aang: it was moment I think I started to like Zuko haha.
7. When the gaang was training for the final battle with Ozai & they were all fighting together & at the end Sokka and Zuko were pretty much like you gotta kill the fire lord aang & Sokka sliced the melon head in half; (toph being the melon lord was epic too)
8. Sokka Ice dodging a bato: idk that was such an important moment for Sokka & he deserves to feel important and have a male figure invest time into him so hell yeah Bato.
9. It’s a tie between Sokka telling toph boomerang isn’t coming back & toph saying “that’s a lot of fire isn’t it?”: the seriousness of that scene and the way Sokka never stopped fighting & how he would have held onto toph as long as he could - it was such a powerful moment (& then of course Suki saved the day!!)
10. Last but not least the kyoshi warriors training with Suki whooping Sokka into shape! Suki is one of my favorites and she is both firm and gentle with Sokka which I think is fun! (& then Zuko comes to burn everything down and Sokka gets to fight with the uniform on haha!)
11. Because fuck it, any scene with Zuko & Jet interacting - it’s like two scenes, one when they kissed on the ferry, and then their major break up with swords. That’s how it happened don’t argue with me.
Thanks for the ask, I probably have some other favorites but this is what popped into my head hah.

HELLO!!!! HAIR ANON HERE!!!!! A A A A A A A A A H H H H H. !!!!!!!!!!!! (that’s it that’s the whole message)
(JOKING it wouldn’t be a message from me if it wasn’t a ten page essay lmao) THIS CHAPTER!!! FUXK!!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!!! Sorry for yelling a lot but this chapter FUCKED me up. idk what i was expecting from a chapter that was half kazuma but FUCKKKKKK NOT THIS!!!!! HIS BACKSTORY!!!!!!!! MORE TALKING WITH ICHIKA!!!!!!!! (SIDE NOTE!!!!!!! I MIGHT BE IN LOVE WITH HER!!!!!!!!!) P I A N D A O R E A L I Z I N G !!!!!! HAHA FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I was flapping so aggressively while reading this part that I had to physically calm myself so I wouldn’t hurt either of my wrists or alarm my gf from the other room lmaooooo) anyways HaHa Very Excited For Developments On That Front! (I mean this genuinely because I need to know what happens when iroh eventually finds out So Bad I start shaking like an overly-excited chihuahua when I think about it for too long but also I’m Sure This Will Resolve Smoothly And With Minimal Pain Haha :)))))))))
ohoho and that’s not even getting INTO shen’s part of the chapter. Guo finding out about zuko being the blue spirit and a firebender made me lose my shit. SHEN made me lose my shit. (The line, “‘Hi,’ the little rat bastard said” REALLY made me lose my shit.) (also the line referring to Zuko getting mad at spark rocks, throwing one at the mountain, and then having it bounce back and hit him square between the eyes made me howl. I think a like a lot of people in the fandom don’t fully get Zuko’s character/personality, but literally just that single line demonstrates that you understand it perfectly lmao. Suki’s reaction to and sokka’s role in the rock-throwing are both examples of your understandings of their characters too 🫡 I remain In Awe of your flawless characterization of both the canon characters and your ocs 🫡) I’m worried about Suki and the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors and I’m REALLY worried about Haoyu though. I need him to be conscious enough to realize who the blue spirit is 😭😭😭😭
anyways!!!! Thank you so much as always for sharing!!!!!!! I hope things have been well with you :) I want to apologize for not sending an anon last chapter because I’m pretty sure I didn’t but honestly the weeks since you last updated have been so busy I’m not even sure 😭 but I’m pretty sure I didn’t so I’m very sorry!!! I similarly enjoyed your last chapter and it made me feel similar amounts of shaking-like-a-chihuahua excitement. You put so much love and effort into your writing and these chapters, please know that I see it and appreciate it and think about it ALL THE TIME :) thank you so so so much again!!!! I’m going to be very patiently and VERY excitedly waiting for the next chapter (read: fighting the urge to gnaw on pillows out of excitement). I hope you’re having a wonderful day and/or night 💖💕✨💫🌕
Hello!
When you said you started shaking like an over excited chihuahua the visual made me literally laugh out loud, so thank you for that 😂
Its always so nice to hear when people like my characterisation, because I often wonder if i have gone to far into my head and am just writing nonsense 😬
And quite a few people have said they might be in love with Ichika, which I approve of, because she and Kazuma have turned out to be So Much Fun to write!
Thank you once again for your ask - as always I have enjoyed every word of it (although please don't worry if you miss one or stop!)
I hope you are having a great week so far!

Encanto AU but in ATLA: Bumi is like Mirabel.
(Yep. I think I'm not the first one to think that the plot of Encanto would fit in the Gaang Family)
Like the title said, Bumi is Mirabel, because both of them had no bending/gift.
It would be when Bumi is young, still the oldest bro.
Aang and Abuela had some things in common, because both lose important people in a traumatic event, and both the world/village trust that they can resolve their problems and put what the people's need first of theirself. But, when Bumi didn't show any talent on bending, he feels worried. When Kya is born and grow up to be a waterbender, and then Tenzin...well, he focus in this two, specially Tenzin and the duties they had as the last airbenders.
Katara and Julieta are both healers, and in the AU Katara would try to make Bumi feel that he is part of the family even if he doesn't had a bending.
Kya and Tenzin are like Luisa and Isabela. Kya feels the pressure of help everybody for her waterbending (but still close to Bumi). Tenzin is the "perfect golden child", and with Bumi had a hard relationship. Aang would love that Tenzin and Lin would be a couple, and their "love story" is more like an arranged marriage since their childhood.
Pepa and Felix: I would said it, are Zuko and Sokka. Just because I imagine Zuko trying to be the FireLord and not showing clearly emotions and had to act like he is so calm, and not stressed. And Sokka, well, he is close to Bumi, and after getting married with the FireLord, is the person who accepts Zuko with his awkwardness. They had their daughter (thanks Mai), a shy Izumi, who is so invisible in her ways and after learning the abilities from Piandao and Papa Zuko (as the Blue Spirit), she hears everything about everyone. So, she is like Dolores.
But also Toph is like Dolores. Because she knows when someone is lying, and also she finds out about "that". She had Lin and Suyin, and is "close" to Suki. Suyin is a trouble child with her metalbending, a little bit mischievous, and Lin has the weight of being the future wife of Tenzin (Kya is in love with her, Toph knows that), but also wants to learn about kyoshi warrior's fight style.
And there is someone we didn't talk yet. It isn't Mai, neither Ty Lee. We are talking about SHH SHHH...
Wedon'ttalkaboutAzulaNoNoNoWE DON'T TALK ABOUT AZULA!
(A clue: she is with Iroh in House Arreste in his tea shop. Or is what the Gaang thinks she is)
Azula would not had visions, but follow Iroh in trip to the Spirit World (idk how they will do, but is Iroh...) and maybe she is less crazy. Maybe she cared about the child who is, in a certain way, as her brother. But with a better sense of humor.
So this is what I had in my mind. I want to draw and more things.
Just imagine the songs:
The Familia Madrigal---The Avatar's Family.
Waiting for a Miracle---Bumi singing about his wishes.
Surface Pressure---Kya/Lin being honest about herself.
We Don't Talk about Bruno---We don't talk about Azula, with Zukka(PepaxFelix), Suyin(Camilo), Tenzin(Isabela), Kya and Izumi(Dolores), and obviously Bumi.
What else can I do?----It would be with Tenzin, but...i think it would fit with Lin. (I almost forgot this song xd )
All of you---The entire Gaang and family.
That's the post :)
Tell me what you think about it.

A Long List of Trash Fire Lord Zuko Headcanons
...that i couldn't get out of my head:
(warning: SUPER LONG POST i havent figured out how to trim posts yet)
he's the one who unchains azula despite iroh's protests. she doesn't even try to fight him, just cries into his shoulder and keeps mumbling about how father's going to be so disappointed in her. he takes her to her rooms and has her drink a sleeping draught, then stations the best guards he has left outside her chambers.
his first council meeting takes place literally a day after sozin's comet. he hobbles into the council chamber shirtless with his entire torso covered in bandages and every council member just looks at him like '...what'
he does NOT sleep for like,,a week after sozin's comet and then another two weeks after his coronation. katara, aang and suki try to persuade him to sleep and he doesn't listen. eventually sokka, toph and mai team up to literally drag his ass to bed and tell him he's not allowed to get up until he sleeps (does mai pin him to the bed with her knives? yes. is it kinky or sexual in any way? definitely not.)
he drinks So. Much. Tea. at this point it's practically tasteless to him but he drinks it anyway because he just needs something to do and tea is something familiar. he keeps iroh on his toes because he's constantly asking for new tea blends, uncle, i think i actually tasted the last one,
he flat-out refuses to grow his hair for at least a year after ozai's defeat. the second it starts getting close to his chin he shears it off himself, with his knife, and his stylist has a heart attack every single time
when he's tired he'll occasionally jump up when one of his guards moves. it stops after a bit, but for the first month and a half or so he's really twitchy. when sokka asks, the only explanation he can come up with is that he's not used to having people stand behind him silently and not want to kill him, much less want to protect him (sokka immediately takes him out for a shopping trip and makes a point of walking behind him the entire time, but only on zuko's right side, where he can clearly see it if sokka moves towards him)
when the healer declares azula mentally unstable and in need of an institution, he shuts himself in his office for the rest of the night. no one's allowed in, not even iroh. he finally emerges in the morning, eyes red from crying and sleep deprivation, and tells the librarian that he'd like a list of the best mental institutions in the country, please, the best in the world if you can get them
he loves theatre (is this even a headcanon?). unfortunately it practically died out in the fire nation along with the rest of the creative arts, leaving nothing but small troupes like the ember island players. one of zuko's personal goals (meaning things he wants to accomplish that aren't as important as restoring his country) is to bring back theatre; he finally manages to do it after about eight months or so of being fire lord, along with other arts like dancing, music and sculpture
he establishes a national day of mourning, on the first day of autumn every year, to commemorate the genocide of the air nomads. from 100AG onwards, every calendar printed in the fire nation has it marked. at first it was called the day of repentance, but aang persuaded him to have it changed (by arguing that he didn't want guilt to be a literal staple of fire nation culture)
he introduces literally So Many educational reforms, plus a mandatory class that teaches students about the cultures of the other nations (air nomads included) and how some of their traditions overlap
he turns down the offer of having a statue put up of him in the capital. toph ignores him and does it anyway.
he visits azula regularly, makes sure she's (relatively) comfortable and well-fed, and sometimes just sits down outside her door and tells her about everything that's going on right now ('some of the far colonies have developed their own standardised writing, azula, you wouldn't believe it, and i've asked the fire sages to come visit more often—but you never liked them, did you? oh, well; i'll make sure none of them go into your chambers by mistake')
(he doesn't know it, but when he does this azula sits by the door and listens. she wonders what kind of writing the colonists have developed, and whether or not the fire sages have taken on some new recruits.)
he hates being above anyone else. never sits in the throne if he can help it, nor does he sit on the dais in the council room. when he talks to people shorter than him, he finds himself stooping a little bit to talk to them on their level (the exception to this rule is sokka, who he mocks for being shorter all the way up until sokka grows taller than him, the bastard)
the first time he visits the earth kingdom, the earth king's ministers call a toast. he ends up being the only one who has to sit out, because he's too young to drink by earth kingdom law
once his servants figure out he won't kill them for talking to him, they start becoming a lot more bold, telling him off when he doesn't take care of himself. at one point, they force him to let them take care of him so much that he literally just bolts into the gardens and hides there until the staff rope in mai and ty lee
when he needs to escape, he does one of two things: (a) he dresses up as the blue spirit and does some parkour until he calms down, or (b) he goes to work at the jasmine dragon. (b) happens less often bc the jasmine dragon's in ba sing se, but there's been a few memorable incidents when an earth kingdom diplomat walks in and yells, 'LEE?!' when they see the fire lord
the first court artist who draws him also happens to be the one who drew azulon and ozai. he draws zuko without his scar. zuko takes one look at it and tells him, very calmly, that he'd like him to leave, please.
zuko burns the portrait. he doesn't fire the court artist, but he never calls on him again unless he has to. a second court artist is called, and can't help but be a bit confused when the fire lord tells him to be sure to include the scar
he forgets the crown. a lot. sometimes he walks into council meetings in his sleepwear with his hair tied up in a messy ponytail and a bunch of scrolls tucked under his arm. none of his councilmen have the guts (or the heart) to tell him that this is not, in fact, formal council wear
he goes to feed the turtleducks when he's stressed. he thinks he's being subtle. he's not. the entire palace knows, and they consciously give him space when they see him in the turtleduck garden
most of his staff are older than him, so they look at him and see this teeny tiny fire lord who is So Small and who Must Be Protected. the day after zuko's coronation, the head chef holds a meeting where they commence Operation Do-Not-Let-That-Boy-Turn-Out-Like-His-Father (subsection He's-The-Only-Good-Thing-We-Have)
one night he wakes up to find suki sitting in his room, decked out in full kyoshi warrior garb and makeup, and just about screams blue murder. suki tells him there are suspicions of an assassin in the palace, and would you please stop yelling it's very distracting, we won't be able to hear anyone coming over that racket
zuko gets very, very paranoid of random spirits after that. yeah, suki looks like a possibly malevolent spirit when she's wearing her makeup, what about it? (when he tells sokka he's highkey terrified of spirit shenanigans, sokka just looks at him and says, 'man, the stories i could tell...', and THAT'S when zuko remembers sokka spent like six months more than he did travelling with the avatar)
on his first visit to the southern water tribe, he removes his boots and leg guards, rolls up his pants and kneels barefoot in the snow. even though chief hakoda immediately starts trying to pull him up, he's stubborn as hell and stays kneeling for the entirety of his very long, very sincere apology-on-behalf-of-the-fire-nation speech. he nearly loses his toes to frostbite after that, and both sokka and katara never stop giving him shit for it
the first time he grows a 'beard' is completely accidental. he's stressed over some trade miscommunications with chief hakoda, hasn't slept in a few days...and then when sokka arrives as water tribe ambassador to help smooth things over, he takes one look at zuko and says 'man, facial hair does not suit you'
zuko: facial what now
he checks a mirror to find that he's got stubble covering his chin, dark enough that it almost looks intentional, and holy gods how the fuck did he not notice this before
'UNCLE WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME' 'i assumed you were doing it on purpose' 'WHEN HAVE I EVER DONE ANYTHING ON PURPOSE'
he shaves it all off immediately, of course, which prompts a lot of teasing and rib-poking from sokka until zuko finally snaps that he's scared it'll make him look like his father. sokka stops after that.
(the day after sokka leaves, zuko finds that a mysterious someone has scribbled all over ozai's royal portrait, giving him a frankly ridiculous beard and moustache that literally CANNOT be grown in real life. oddly enough, he can't bring himself to care about the defamation of royal property. he's too busy laughing.)
his paths cross with toph and sokka more than any of the others, because sokka is ambassador and toph is technically still a beifong. most of the time, at formal functions, he ends up sequestered in the corner with toph and a hoard of snacks, and they talk and swear much more than they usually do (zuko's ministers once heard him when he was drunk with toph, and the servants swear the older ministers' ears started bleeding)
he restores fire nation cultural festivals, and in doing so subjects himself to learning a lot of complicated dances
during one memorable week, he wrote so many letters and drafted so much legislation that he ran out of paper. he had to go visit the nearest school and ask for some
he keeps up with his firebending and sword training even though it's hard to fit into his schedule. his ministers refrain from reminding him that he has guards to protect him now; it's still hard for zuko to trust his safety with anyone but himself (team avatar is the exception).
he started sleepwalking about two months into his reign. no one knew why. one time, he nearly sleepwalked right off the edge of a balcony, and one of his guards had to grab him by the back of his robes.
the sleepwalking stopped after around a month and never happened again. at this point it's practically palace legend.
after freeing the war prisoners, he went around collecting every single earthbender-proof wooden cell he could find in the capital and surrounding areas. when he'd gotten most of them, he gathered them into a huge pile in the city square and set fire to them with his own hands.
unfortunately he couldn't do that with the waterbender metal cells but he did get toph to come in and bend them all into pretty shapes (well, toph thought they were pretty shapes. everyone else thinks they're meaningless squiggles)
he learned how to write with both hands at the same time out of sheer necessity (he refused scribes until it became clear that he'd be putting some people out of a job; that was when he started letting scribes write very, very minor things, but all important documents/drafts/letters are still written by him)
he once put the wet end of an ink brush in his mouth instead of the wooden end by mistake. didn't even realise until he bit down to keep it in place and ink went oozing everywhere
when his guards rushed in to find him coughing and spluttering black liquid all over his desk they thought he'd been poisoned but no he's just stupid
on his 17th birthday, his first one after being crowned, he got tackled by team avatar in the middle of the ballroom and ended up at the bottom of a cuddlepile for like ten minutes
this cuddlepile happened at an event that was very much public and very much formal. it was a scandal for weeks
just. fire lord zuko, guys. so much potential

Zuko and Sokka for ask game :)
a song that reminds you of them
ok i was just listening to @littlespoonsokka's zukka mitski playlist so like. all of those. but especially first love/late spring. nour has a post somewhere in drafts about how it's a tbr zukka song and like.... “please hurry leave me i can't breathe please don't say you love me”. yeah.
an otp
zuko: zukka! for me the simplest way to explain why i find the ship so compelling is that they have similar struggles (their relationships with masculinity, feelings of inadequacy compared to their prodigy younger sister, etc) and interests (swords, literature, general nerdiness, etc) that they can bond over, and yet have opposing flaws (sokka's perfectionism vs zuko's impulsivity, sokka's pessimism vs zuko's almost naïve idealism, sokka's emotional repression vs zuko's oversharing tendencies, etc) that they can help each other improve with.
sokka: also zukka of course, but sukka invented bi4bi relationships and yuekka is thee epic romance of atla.
a notp
zuko: zvtara, because 1. their relationship is more compelling to me if i read them as siblings, 2. they're so similar in ways i think would not be conducive to a healthy relationship, and 3. zuko gay. & maik0, because imo their romance is super compelling precisely because they're both gay and not good for each other, and how their relationship therefore showcases the fire nation's repressive nature and mai and zuko's responses to it.
sokka: i mentioned this when i answered this ask game for toph, but t0kka.
favorite platonic/familial relationships
zuko: god there are so many to choose from... i'm gonna go with katara for now. i love their relationships so so much. siblings, besties, the ultimate straight-girl-and-her-gbf (with the same taste in guys...) friendship.
sokka: i'm gonna go with katara for this one too! they are truly the best siblings ever, individually and as a set.
the position they sleep in
ok we're #LittleSpoonSokkaBigSpoonZuko truthers on this blog but beyond that, i think the way that sokka sleeps all sprawled out in “the puppetmaster” is so funny
a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with
how could i choose just one but:
zuko: that he's “the responsible one” whether that's in the gaang or in his relationship with sokka. like this isn't so much a headcanon as it is a complete misreading of his character but uuuugh it annoys me so much
sokka: that he becomes an ambassador to the fire nation... like there are so many things he would do that are not that. he should travel, go to university, become a pai sho master, invent new scientific fields, write poetry, and yes, he would help zuko (and katara) with their jobs leading nations. but often “ambassador sokka” is just a more polite sounding way of saying “prince consort sokka” which is. disgusting & racist
a crossover au i’d love to see them in
the first thing that comes to mind is this..... idk if “inside joke” is even the right term for it, it's too convoluted for that.. that an irl friend and i have about zuko & sokka as ryan & chad in high school musical 2. like their characters aren't even that similar but. it's a whole thing that this friend and i have spent several hours of our lives talking about.
my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn
kyoshi warrior and blue spirit!!

Ok, so I’m probably never going to write/finish that Sukitara biker gang fic I was talking about, so I’m just gonna take you through it here:
Katara is in grad school, working to become a doctor. She works a couple jobs, 1 is a poorly paying internship situation, & she also works at a grocery store. Suki delivers fresh produce two times a week. They only talk when there’s an issue, so they get in petty fights. Katara also thinks Suki is standoffish and rude.
They live in a modern version on Republic City, and the Kyoshi Warriors are a vigilante biker girl gang. No one knows who they really are. They use secret identities since they don’t really get along with the cops. They started about 40 years ago with a woman named Kyoshi, who didn’t hide her identity. She doesn’t fight anymore, and no one knows where she went.
Katara has loved riding her motorcycle since she was a teenager. She is obsessed with the Kyoshi Warriors, and desperately wants to join.
[more under the cut]
In an attempt to get the Kyoshi Warriors’ attention, Katara creates a superhero identity of her own: The Painted Lady. She often runs into the Kyoshi Warriors, mostly on purpose, but they also naturally care about the same issues!
Bending exists, and Katara often uses waterbending to fight.
Katara shares an apartment with Aang, who caught on to her vigilante-ing almost immediately, and is trying to respect her privacy but is kind of worried about her! He sees the aftermath of the Kyoshi Warrior fights on TV! It looks really bad!
After a fight one day, a Warrior (Ty Lee) comes up to Katara to tell her she’s badass. Katara is like “~wow~ well, you guys inspired me to do this!” and they both kind of fangirl over each other until Katara is like heyyy I would love to join your group? And Ty Lee is like, oh, well, we don’t allow benders? But maybe, I’ll talk to the leader for you.
Katara is very disappointed, but continues as the Painted Lady, because she was actually helping people and it was awesome! Now, she’s low key competing with the Warriors. She knows it isn’t helpful, but... she can’t help it! She’s competitive and they are being totally unfair.
Eventually, Suki tries to talk to her. Katara recognizes her voice and panics, and just kind of shrugs and rides away. Suki is intrigued.
On one of her excursions, she goes to investigate a scuffle, and finds another vigilante fighting them: the Blue Spirit. She had heard of the Blue Spirit, but she kind of thought they were an urban legend, or something. They aren’t as out in the open as the Kyoshi gang, and the stories seem so outlandish... (the media does blow them out of proportion, b/c mystery) She joins the fight.
When Katara talks to the Blue Spirit, she disguises her voice (after the thing with Suki...) She doesn’t recognize his voice. (They are friends in regular life) They start fighting together from time to time.
((Sometimes, when Katara and her friends hang out, and the news will get turned on, and they’ll hear something about some vigilante or other, and Sokka will pointedly say “hm! sounds dangerous!” and Katara is starting to wonder if he knows about her... but he doesn’t. He’s talking to Zuko.))
Suki keeps trying to reach out to Katara as the Painted Lady. Katara doesn’t know it, but Ty Lee did talk to Suki, who isn’t crazy about letting a bender in, but wants to at least talk to her, but Katara is avoiding her like the plague (and to make matters worse, the girl at the grocery store is being even weirder than usual... wtf is wrong with everybody?)
~Somehow~ Suki and Katara become hesitant friends, and start teaching each other some of their tricks.
Eventually, Katara finds out about Zuko being the Blue Spirit, but doesn’t know what to do about it until he finds her helmet and they do the spiderman meme thing like :0 You!
At one point, Katara takes Suki out to the country where she loves to practice biking. It’s amazing and fun and it’s a bonding moment for them. They stop at a diner on the way back, in a place neither of them have never been before, and at the bar... there’s these two women eating together. And Suki keeps stealing glances at them until she leans over to Katara and says, “Man, that woman in the green jacket kind of looks like Kyoshi? I’ve never seen her, but we have some pictures...” and they both kind of freak out and walk over there like “heyyy sorry if this is weird...” and low and behold! It is Kyoshi and Rangi. They lose their shit, and it’s very embarrassing, but Kyoshi is pretty cool about it.

Do you have any headcanons for some YuTen kids? What Azula and Zuko might be like as Aunt and Uncle? Iroh or Arnook as a grandpas?
Hey Anon! Thanks for the ask. I hadn’t considered YuTen kids (are they also considered steambabies? Or does that only apply to kids of benders? I don’t know lol) so I had to think on it, so here goes!
I like to think that they might have some trouble conceiving, so each time Yue falls pregnant it’s basically considered a miracle and a blessing from the spirits. Maybe the fact that she’s been touched by the moon spirit contributes to this? Who knows. Anyway.
Putting it under a cut cause it got a little long lol.
First YuTen baby is Crown Princess Akira (meaning vermillion and white jasmine) (yes, I know I made her a JunTen baby in my modern AU fics, leaf me alone). She was born at the peak of summer. She’s the only bender of their brood (a firebender). After years of trying to conceive, Lu Ten and Yue are ecstatic when she’s born. She takes her duty very seriously (like her mom), excels in her studies, and is considered a prodigy firebender by her teachers. She loves learning, and therefore spends a lot of time traveling with her aunts and uncles to visit the SWT, Earth Kingdom, the Air Temples, and the NWT to learn their cultures, laws, and history.
Tumblr media
Born three years after his sister is Prince Kallik (lightning). He’s a non-bender. He’s a quick learner, and he easily masters weapons (including dao swords, taught by his uncle Zuko, and undergoes honorary Kyoshi Warrior training from his aunt Suki). He’s not as interested in his studies, and would rather be practicing his weapons or doing something else, like playing Pai Sho with Iroh or hide and explode with Uncle Aang (when he’s around). He often causes mischief, but his charming personality makes it hard to stay mad at him for long. He’s restless, and when he’s older he often accompanies Aang traveling the world.
Tumblr media
Born four years after her brother, we have Princess Uki (survivor). Yue’s pregnancy with her was difficult, and they nearly lost her during the birth. As such, Lu Ten and Yue are a little more protective over her than her siblings. Uki is a gentle soul. She loves animals, and she’s often found in the palace stables with the mongoose lizards, ostrich horses (imported), and the messenger hawks. Uki also likes to read scrolls by the turtleduck pond (her favorite is Love Amongst the Dragons). She learns chi blocking from Auntie Ty Lee and knife throwing from Aunt Mai, although she wouldn’t hurt a fly. She has a mind for politics and diplomacy, so she studies a lot under Uncle Sokka and Uncle Aang, in the hopes of becoming an ambassador one day.
Tumblr media
Despite being the oldest members of the GAang, they are some of the last to have children. So Zuko and Katara have already been through it, and are a huge help to new parents YuTen. Zuko loves his nieces and nephew just as much as he loves his own kids, so he tries to spend as much time as he can with them. It’s a common sight to see a gaggle of children (both his own and Lu Ten’s) hanging onto his robes as he goes about his business. He helps Lu Ten learn to braid Akira’s hair to surprise Yue. He loves teaching Kallik the ways of the sword (and insists Uncle Sokka doesn’t know what he’s doing). He and Uki can often be seen re-enacting Love Amongst the Dragons (he dusts off his old Blue Spirit costume to do it). He teaches all of the to ride dragons on Druk.
Azula is a great aunt, even if she sometimes tells the kids that the only way to win is by crushing their enemies. She enjoys helping Akira with her forms and tells her that she reminds Azula of herself at that age. She and Kallik often get into mischief together (“That minister was up to no good, LuLu, we had to set the ends of his robe on fire!”). Azula helps Uki learn battle strategies (“We’re in peace times, La La!” “So? It doesn’t hurt to know just in case!”). She helps the kids master their deportment and chivalry lessons, and she’s the one who teaches Akira to master lightning bending.
Iroh, of course, adores his grandchildren. He spoils them all before they’re even born, filling their nurseries with gifts. He teaches them all Pai Sho and how to brew the perfect pot of tea. They often come to visit him when he retires to Ba Sing Se and abdicates the throne (I don’t care, Iroh deserves to have his own tea shop). He passes away before they reach full initiation, but he begins their training to become members of the White Lotus.
Arnook loves when the children come to visit. He’s often known to mutter under his breath, “Hahn? What was I thinking?” He takes Uki under his wing, allowing her an honorary seat on his council so she can see how diplomacy and ambassadorship works firsthand. He takes Kallik ice dodging (I’m not sure if that’s a SWT exclusive, but I like the thought of both tribes doing it). He likes having Akira spar against his best waterbender and boasts like the proud grandpa he is when she wins.

i am looking directly at the pacrim au and asking if u would like to share any thoughts 😳🎤
Hhhh thank you for opening this can of worms djhdhs and sorry it took me so long to reply but anyway. My thoughts are many and not at all coherent. I’m mostly redrawing my favorite scenes from the movie with a zukka twist bc i’m Basic like that. But if you want a look into my sick and twisted mind I’m gonna write random pacrim au things under the cut (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
• Sokka as a scientist/engineer/pilot (he has the range), he’s trained to fight, knows his way around a jaeger (he helped the Mechanist design some of them), but he’s been called to Caldera’s Shatterdome because of his incredibly accurate calculations about kaiju attacks and his research on the nature of the Breach
• I think there are a lot of parallels between Zuko and Mako Mori, mostly because they are both fierce and brilliant fighters, and their lives have been heavily impacted by a Traumatic Event that still affects them. (Also Iroh adopting zuko and later azula much like Staker adopted mako... love to see it)
• Yue studies the kaijus, she shares sokka’s lab. Lots of wild shenanigans ensue (including but not limited to hair dye adventures)
• her jock gf Suki is a jaeger pilot and the leader of the kyoshi warriors, usually trains new recruits
• Sokka and Zuko’s jaeger is completely made of dark meteor metal, its name is blue spirit but sokka gets everyone to call it foo foo cuddlypoops (and zuko HATES it)
• I have Thoughts about zuko and azula’s sad backstory but I don’t have enough brain capacity to articulate all that (but it involves oz*i, faulty machinery, and drift experiments)
• I like the idea of katara and aang being among the first responders and helping people firsthand.
• uuhhh toph mai and ty lee and azula are also there and vibing.
• oh and!!!! Sokka comes up with the wild plan to make a jaeger explode in the breach to make it collapse, and zuko is the one to pull the self sacrificing move™️ to activate the autodestruction manually
If you read all this I am so sorry and I’m giving you a lil kiss on the forehead

Zukka: "At The Party"
Modern highschool au
(I can make a part two)
the gaang, Suki, Azula, Zuko, Ty lee, Mai and Yue, all are in the same highschool in Ba Sing Se,
Sokka is a Junior and Katara's a Sophmore,
Aang and Toph are Freshmen,
Zuko is a Senior,
Azula and Ty lee are Sophmores,
Suki is a Junior, Mai and Yue are Seniors
(Kyoshi warriors are cheerleaders (everyone refers to them as Kyoshi warriors)),
Sokka and Katara still live with their father- Hakoda, and with Bato (2 years after Kya's death Hakoda and Bato started dating and now they're engaged),
Zuko lives with his uncle Iroh, who runs a great teashop- the Jasmine dragon, Zuko works there so he can have money for collage,
(Zuko's has a scar because his father- Ozai after years of abusing him throw hot water onto his face, so he ran away to his uncle),
Azula, still lives with her (and Zuko's) father. Ty lee lives with Azula in her house (she sleeps in Zuko's bedroom (she actually sleeps in Azula's bedroom, she only have her stuff in Zuko's bedroom)) since she ran away from home,
Mai's parents are rich, Mai, Azula and Ty lee are the highschool meangirls,
Toph lives with her parents, she argues with them a lot, but she loves them (they're overprotective because she's blind). Toph also is the first person who has ever stood up to the highschool meangirls (she done that defending Sokka because they were making fun of him),
Aang lives with Monk Gyatso since he's parents died, he has a white dog named Appa and a white lemur named Momo,
Yue is a daughter of a very rich businessman, before she went to a private school but she decided she wanted to be like other kids, and now she's in a public highschool of Ba Sing Se,
Suki lives with her mother, she's a leader of cheerleaders in highschool and she do martial arts,
Sokka comes to Jasmine Dragon everyday after school to get some tea and do his homework, sometimes he comes here with Katara, Aang and Toph,
Zuko has a lot of school so he can't work at the Jasmine Dragon everyday, so he don't see Sokka there often (but he has a little crush on this boy becase his smile is so pretty),
one saturday the gaang is at the Jasmine Dragon, Zuko notices them, and he remembers Toph, she's the one who stood up to his sister in school, which means Zuko and whole gaang are probably in the same highschool,
Zuko's too shy to ask them if it's true,
a day after that, at lunch Zuko notices gaang at a table with leader of Kyoshi warriors, she was sitting next to this boy with a beautiful smile, he assumed they're a couple,
Zuko sat with Azula, Ty lee and Mai because he doesn't have any other friends.
Zuko instead of eating lunch stares at Sokka totally zoomed out, Ty lee notices it, it was obvious that Zuko has a crush on Sokka so she starts to make a plan how to help him,
she knows that Sokka's a Kyoshi warrior, so she decides to one too, so she can have some informations about him (Ty lee also tried to make Azula and Mai join the Kyoshi warriors but they didn't want to),
after Ty lee joins the Kyoshi warriors, she becomes friends with Suki, Suki tells Ty lee that Sokka is single, and after talking with Sokka a few times she knows that he's bi,
one day Ty lee mentions to Sokka about Zuko and that he's single, turns out that Sokka has a crush on Zuko too,
now Ty lee needs to figure out how to get these two dummies to start dating. She came up with an idea to make a party in Azula's house (technically it's her house too), she invates Sokka and the rest of the Kyoshi warriors, Mai, Yue, gaang and Zuko (he didn't want to come at first, but after Ty lee told him that his father would be out of town he changed his mind),
at the beginnig of the party everyone was dancing but then someone brought alcohol,
Aang refused to drink alcohol, Katara drank a little but then stopped and strated dancing with Aang (Katara was visibly drunk),
Azula drank A LOT of vodka and started complimenting Ty lee, everyone was suprised (not because Azula liked Ty lee (everyone knew that already) but because Azula was nice),
Toph drank a little but then she stopped because alcohol was messing with her senses,
Yue and Mai get a little to drunk and they end up making out in the bathroom,
Sokka is freaking out in the living room's corner, because he let Katara get drunk, but then he noticed that Zuko isn't here so he started look for him,
after finding Katara and Aang dancing in the kitchen and Mai and Yue making out in the bathroom he finally found Zuko sitting in his old bedroom holding a mask and staring at it,
Sokka sat next to Zuko:
-"Why aren't you at a party?" -Sokka asked
-"It's too loud there" -Zuko answerd
-"What's that?" -Sokka pointed at the mask
-"This? Oh.. It's the Blue Spirit mask" -said Zuko
-"You're Zuko right? I'm Sokka"
-"How do you know my name?"
-"Ty lee told me about you"
-"How do you know Ty lee?"
-"Well.. I'm a Kyoshi warrior. Just like Ty lee"
-"You're a cheerleader? I thought they were only girls"
-"I'm the only male Kyoshi warrior.. Do you know who's room this is?"
-"It's Ty lee's room"
-"Really? It doesn't look like it's her room"
-"Well.. it used to be mine"
-"Your? But you don't live here"
-"I ran away.. Because my father done that to me" -points at his scar- "Now I live with my uncle"
Sokka was muted, he didn't knew how Zuko got that scar, he thought maybe it was an accidient, but it wasn't, Zuko's father done this to him..
-"And this mask.. It belonged to my mother. She gave it to me before she died" -said Zuko
-"I'm really sorry.. I know how it feels.. my mother, she's dead too" -Sokka noticed that Zuko looks really sad- "I know what would make you feel better.. playing 20 questions!"
they started playing 20 questions, and both realized how many things they have in common,
it was Zuko's turn to ask a question, his last one:
-"C-can I kiss you?"
Sokka was visibly shocked, he didn't expect that question,
-" I.. uhh.. y-yes"
so Zuko kisses Sokka, it was a short kiss, but after the kiss they stare each other in the eyes and Sokka just says:
-"Wow"
-"How did your mom died?" -Zuko asked Sokka
-"What? Ohh.."
and Sokka told him the whole story about his mom,
they were talking until 3 am when both fell asleep still sitting on the floor,
in the morning Suki and Ty lee found Sokka sleeping with his head on Zuko's shoulder
You can use it for you're Zukka fic, but if you do please give me some credit I've spent 5 hours writing this, thank you <3

accidental sugardaddy!zuko zukka au:
sokka is a man of substance - we know this - but it’s canon that he loves things
remember how excited he gets at the prospect of shopping? and he buys that dumb expensive bag and basically has a “treat yoself” moment in book 2
i’m sure it stems from growing up in a poor village where he literally had to hunt & gather his own food
and now he’s out in the world and has money and gets to go to all these big markets and it’s a huge deal for him
one of zukos love languages is ABSOLUTELY gift giving - i.e. those scenes w Mai on ember island - and you can’t convince me otherwise
so at some point, post-war + a few years into being firelord, while zuko is trying his hardest to woo sokka and sokka is being oblivious about it (boy didnt realize suki was coming onto him that one time when they were trying to get into ba sing se. the boy is Not Very Good at picking up when people are Into Him) zuko is out in the shopping district of caldera city and unthinkingly buys sokka something stupid expensive and nice
like maybe some red and blue silk robes bc now that sokka’s his ambassador he should represent both nations, right?
totally not bc sokka looks fine as hell in red and zuko wants to see sokka in his colors nope nope nope
ANYWAY sokka reacts in a way zuko never expected
like so happy so excited pretty much takes his other clothes off right there in front of zuko to put his new robes on
zuko tries and fails not to let the gay panic show on his face
and sokka starts to wear the robes all the time. like so much that there’s no way he’s washing them enough!
and that won’t fly
like he cant keep wearing the same robes over and over again, right?
so zuko buys him more
and keeps buying him more.
and more and more and more
(oh god this got long more under the cut)
and eventually commissions the finest tailor in the city to make more red and blue tunics/robes/whatever
(and makes sure he also gets sokka some sleeveless tops for more casual wear because holy fuck he’s really starting to grow into himself and his arms it’s super hot in the fire nation capital, especially for a water tribesman from the south pole)
so then he buys him a pair of incredibly expensive leather boots
because he CAN
and because knee high boots look GOOD on sokka okay?
and zuko literally cannot stop because of how excited sokka gets (and also because of how weirdly turned on zuko gets seeing sokka wearing the clothes he bought him but lets like not talk about it)
so this continues for a while.
and sokka is still stupid oblivious.
maybe he thinks it’s just a rich people thing. maybe he thinks zuko does this for everyone
and then one day zuko is like fuck it and brings sokka with him into the expensive, ritzy-ass caldera shopping district and the two of them have themselves a DAY. clothes, shoes, food, sweets, they even go to a spa
and they come back and zuko orders some fancy ass dinner to his room and he and sokka eat and drink wine and maybe get a little affectionate, (but that’s it)
it’s sooooo not a date! (it’s a date)
so very shortly after this sokka’s hanging w the girls while zuko’s doing important firelord things and is wearing some new threads from said shopping trip
and suki - very casually - goes “i like your shirt, your sugar daddy buy that for you?”
sokka sputters bc sugar daddy?!
“my what? - no, zuko did!”
“yeah exactly,” suki says. “your sugar daddy. zuko. zuko your sugar daddy.”
“zuko. my sugar daddy??? we arent even dating?? zuko does this kind of stuff for everyone right???”
and all the girls look at each other like “oh spirits this poor, bi, disaster of a man”
“you think he does that for everyone? hell no. he pays us very nicely i will say and does provide our kyoshi warrior/firelord guard uniforms but he does not buy us a bunch of expensive shit”
sokka looks to mai for backup bc surely he buys her nice dresses and stuff and mai’s just like “oh yeah zuko loves that kind of stuff. he did that for me when we were dating. he definitely has upped his price range for you though.”
sokka’s like O_____O
“oh”
he straight up bursts into zuko’s chambers (his personal guard doesn’t even blink cause they think they’re dating too lol)
and what he means to ask is “are we dating?”
but what he accidentally asks is “are you trying to be my sugar daddy”
zuko goes like beet red and sputters for a moment before squeaking out “um i was trying to be your boyfriend but i could be your sugar daddy”
and sokka knows he can be a dumbass but this is next level even for him.
“i mean i love when you buy me stuff...but i dont want you to think you have to buy me stuff just to get me to like you. i’d still like you even if you were still a broke fugitive”
zuko says “oh 🥺 “
then they kiss
and maybe bang a little
and yes they’re boyfriends and no,zuko is resolutely not sokka’s sugar daddy thank you very much, suki
but it doesn’t mean zuko doesnt still buy sokka HELLA expensive things (and food) all the time.
sokka wants it? he gets it
(zuko is still lowkey sokka’s sugar daddy tho, let’s be real)
