I know my following is small, and everything was already said, but I just wanted to say something.
Just so y’all know, this is probably gonna a be long post ->
———
I as a lot of people love qsmp for it’s magic of getting people from around the world speaking and forming friendship together. And learning each other’s cultures in such a different ways.
I know I’m probably not the only one, but I’m not someone who’s from English speaking countries (America and such), I been always ‘forced’ to use English if I needed to buy or talk to someone in online spaces. And even if my culture is not that massive as others i know the pain of being made fun for my language or even country.
It’s been a lot of times I been called Russian, and getting sexualized for my looks and our countries history with them. Or people not wanting to learn and forgetting my own countries existence.
When Quackity started to stream more in Spanish I felt happiness and even if I didn’t understand him, I still tried to look for translation but only found angry comments how he should talk in English, and stopped talking Taco Bell. (I will never forgot these ‘jokes’ I know it’s hard for people who don’t know the struggle, but it still feels really disrespectful…)
But seeing this project showing people the magic of others culture, even if mine wasn’t there… I felt loved.
When Chayanne showed Germans traditions that was really similar to mine, I felt happiness at the way everyone loved it.
When new people showed up and everyone tried to learn how to say hello in their language or didn’t spoke English and used the translation instead.
I love seeing how all of their English got better or the ability to try to learn different languages even if there’s translation available.
I love this community and as someone who loved dsmp I really know how much this hurts.
But don’t worry! We still have each other, we made art and expressed what made it all even greater then it already was. I really appreciate you writers, artists, people who do cosplay and even people who didn’t had the courage to interact publicly in the fandom like me until now.
And the most important the Admins! I really appreciate you and what you did, even if its only giving life to ‘characters’ you played. You helped me with sadness I been feeling for while, and i think I’m not only one who said this but I wish you the best of luck on future projects, even if you decided to never interact with qsmp again.
I loved and still love this community we made, even if it had it’s downs and ups.
I will not leave, but I will try focusing on my own mental health and everyone who needs it.
I’m not comfortable with venting but if anyone just wants to talk about fanart or just have their mind on something else, feel free to dm me! I’m really bad at this, but I know it’s hard if your someone who didn’t interact online or doesn’t have irl friends or someone to talk this through with.
I know there’s probably a lot of grammar mistakes but I just wanted to share my love to everyone who was really feeling down with all this stuff happening.
I love you qsmp and even if this is the end or the new start. ❤️

I know it is not that deep, but every single time I see or hear someone say “translation is a betrayal of the original source” or “translation means I can never truly grasp what was meant” and mean it, I die a little inside. Do you know how much time, effort, countless nights spent agonising over context, meaning, intention, historical context, research etc. goes into a translation? Do you know about the concept of translation loyalty, how we are taught that it is one of the golden rules? Our loyalty to readers and author alike? How much understanding of a topic does not only go into translation but into interpreting as well? How much determination, frustration and love it all takes? How informed you have to be about hot words, cultural peculiarities, language-specific concepts and the like?
Do you know how much adoration goes into providing another human’s words - one whom you may have never met but by all that is holy and damned, their voice exists and it is worth being heard by all, no matter if they have access to the original language or not -, their thoughts and dreams and hopes and whatever else there is, for all eyes and ears and fingers?
It is demanding work. It makes you doubt and doubt and want to pull your own teeth out sometimes. I have spent minutes analysing a sentence simply to find the correct translation for the word “as”. I have checked sources, researched novels and plays long forgotten, hours before I would actually get to translate. I have spent nights researching, swallowing tears and cries of anger older than me, for interpreting jobs. I have felt unbridled joy upon delivering a valuable translation, could have jumped in exhilaration when elderly people came to me, smiling and thanking me profusely because they are interested in working for a good cause but they would not have been able to understand this conference without my friend and I because the conference was held in English, not German.
My state exams are coming up. I am this close to being a state certified and court-sworn translator and interpreter. Something I’ve been training for for 3 years. I would have never discovered Neil Gaiman as an author without the translation of “Norse Gods”, which I needed as reference material back in school. I would not be able to teach my mum English if not for my Scottish teacher during my time becoming a commercial correspondent and then starting to train as a translator. Without translation, nobody would ever be able to learn another language, or even get to know a different culture.
Translation is an act of love.
It’s in the smile of the Ukrainian kid whom I’ve interpreted for at a gaming conference, who did not speak a lick of German. It’s in the eyes of the Canadian Paralympics delegation stopping in Munich, whom we’re interpreting a sports event, a state dinner and a welcome speech for. It’s in the laughter of refugees who have been here for months to years, shunned by the government and left to be unheard until the multiple conferences, projects, organisation meetings held to help them, to make sure they are not forgotten. Who joke around with us in bits of English and Farsi - through another interpreter -, forge connections with others attending the meeting, quipping and teasing in broken German and my mother tongue rings as sweet as bells. It’s in the hands of elderly people attending a talk about the banning of uranium weapons, shaking but full of strength, as they thank us for our help. It’s my mother’s smile as I translate medical articles for her, as she never learned English, growing up in the GDR.
Translation is an act of loyalty and love. Of adoration for those who were, who are and who will be, and all the echoes of ourselves.

i’m so tired of capitalism man. art and storytelling are some of the only things that unite every human being no matter which era or part of the world they live(d) in. and some of the only things that are accessible to every human being no matter their social status or financial situation
and part of the joy of telling a story through art or music or writing is the process of creating it. and part of the joy of experiencing a story is thinking about how it was shaped by the views and experiences of its creator, a fellow human being
and sites like ao3 are a testament to the importance of stories - the entire concept of fanfiction is the idea that you liked a story so much that you want to expand on it, and people are putting hours and hours of work into writing stories that they share entirely for free
then along comes some billionaire shitbag who thinks the world is his personal playground and has a dangerous amount of power considering how much of a manchild he is. and he’s now mining ao3 to feed his ai so it can churn out reams of mass produced, loveless work so he can accumulate yet more profit to hoard like a fucking dragon
i’m so tired

I had the most surreal thing happen today.
So I was at the mall with my mom and brother, and ended up going to a See’s candy cuz ya know chocolate. We all have our favorites, my mom likes the scotch mallows, I like the molasses chips, and my brother likes the berry/fruit filled ones. After walking into the store a woman at the register said they had free samples, yay! And I kid you not, this woman meticulously picked out all said chocolates I just mentioned. I’ve spent the the rest of the day just thinking about this. If it were intentional, how the heck did she do that???? Can you tell someone’s favorite chocolate just by looking at them??? Tell me, if anyone works at a See’s candy, are you allowed magical powers. It this a usual occurrence?

this has been said quite a few times before in much more eloquent ways than i can put it, but fr how did the fanon versions of ronance become so flipped? sure, robin is nervous around pretty girls and kinda clumsy and uncoordinated, but she’s not this bumbling idiot or giant puppy she’s been characterised as. she’s smart and capable; she tore through those demobats in the upside down, she helped the party face down a giant flesh monster, she cracked a secret russian code in like a day. she’s kind of a bad ass. and she’s also sarcastic and cynical as hell. *robin* was the one shooting down nancy’s ideas at first in the library.
meanwhile nancy wheeler is out here stopping in the middle of a serious investigation to pet a dog. the one whose bedroom is bright pink, with ballerina music boxes and a tom cruise poster on her wall. and yes, guns, (plural) under bed. she’s also messy and impulsive (a trait that is often ascribed to robin for some reason?) i mean she uses herself as bait to lure out a monster she knows nothing about and enters the upside down by herself AND goes off with jonathon to hunt down the demogorgon all in one season. and then in season 3 she investigates the rat problem with jonathon and gets in trouble at her job based off of a hunch. she’s also the one to rally the troops in season 4 a lot of the time. sure, she can be a little snarky at times because she’s a) the eldest sibling and b) constantly being underestimated and undermined. but that doesn’t make her the “grumpy black cat” to robin’s “golden retriever”.
ronance, at least to me, works best because of their similarities, not this opposites attract situation some of the fandom have created for them. they’re both curious by nature. nancy has been investigating and solving mysteries since the start and robin made her debut by helping the scoops crew crack a russian code for fun. they were paired together in season 4 for a reason and it’s because of their shared interest in mysteries.

Oga is not actually that evil. He’s definitely selfish and arrogant and takes pleasure in beating the snot out of people, but he’s also a very caring person (in his own way). He doesn’t toss Shiroyama out the window, he breaks his promise to never fight again in order to rescue Furuichi (and Hilda sorta), he doesn’t take advantage of Kunieda, and he fights honourably against Tojou.
Beelzebub starts with Hilda saying that Baby Beel will only be attracted to someone strong and evil, and that Beel doesn’t actually care for her, he just reacts based on Oga’s emotions. But this is clearly not true and I wish this concept had been explored more.
Contracts and rituals and super important to demons. Some demons, like Hilda, were born with a specific purpose in mind and that becomes their entire reason for living. But we also know that demons can grow beyond their intended purpose because throughout the series Hilda starts developing a stronger sense of self which is really interesting in relation to Beel’s mother who encouraged Hilda to express herself more by giving Hilda a necklace.
In order to gain a better understanding of demon-human relationships (whether it’s contract, possession, spell masters, family, romance) the demon world needs to be more developed. What role does the concept of “evil” play in demon society? Is it actually necessary for demon development?

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This issue with nendou’s dad’s ghost was solved with some Pokémon logic. Saiki says he went from being a psychic to a ghost type while astral projecting.
One bad type matchup for Phychic types? Bug.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saiki is scared of bugs… bug type… because he is psychic…

Not y’all coming up with headcannons where nebula would forcfully take Bucky’s arm to give to rocket, when she clearly knows what’s it’s like to be dismembered and probably wouldn’t do it to another traumatized person like her who has gone through the same experience (cause by Tony, no hate.)
Y’all can’t just come up with good headcannons With abused and disabled victims?

literally please stop whatever you're doing and go listen to fast car by tracy chapman. it's one of the songs of all time, i assure you.
See, now that I’ve publicly acknowledged I’ve never listened to fast car by Tracy Chapman, it’s become part of my Identity, whereas before it was just some weird thing only I knew about. Who am I if I listen to fast car by Tracy Chapman? Am I the same person I was when I made that post 5 minutes ago? Am I ready to alter my identity like that for the sake of one (1) popular song?
