Okay, a few thoughts on the trailer now that I’ve collected my thoughts a bit:
1. Between the shots of the crashed ship and Omega in the cockpit, it’s looking like a self-rescue on Omega’s part. At this point I’m thinking she gets herself and Crosshair out, and then, based on the shots of Cross with the batch, gets separated from him at some point. He rejoins the batch, and she is…somewhere else. Though I don’t know if that means she goes back to Tantiss.
2. It’s entirely possible that she gets got by one of the bounty Hunters in the trailer, and that’s what separates her from Crosshair.
3. I do think that it is Crosshair in the armor, but other possibilities include: one, Tech, who may not have his own armor anymore and needed to wear something protective on short notice, and; two, Hunter’s having a real bad time and is actually hallucinating Crosshair being with them. I don’t think that’s the case though—I think it really is Crosshair.
4. It’s also possible that those shots with Crosshair are from a little later on in the season.
5. Poor Omega’s going to be in Tantiss for months.
6. I swear Hunter looks like he’s lost weight. Like. I know a lot of the fandom is deep in the Crosshair and Tech are twins sauce (and honestly, I am too, I adore that head-canon and basically think if it as canon), but darn it if Hunter isn’t getting so drawn he’s starting to look a little like Crosshair.
7. I find it weirdly amusing that the half the trailer in which the bad batch actually features is mostly taken up by Hunter and Wrecker doing Adventure Man things. I get the sense they were scrounging to find shots of the batchers that weren’t massively spoilery (and they still put those shots of Crosshair in. Which, admittedly, is one of the things that makes me slightly suspicious of that being Crosshair at all, because that could be a misdirect, but only slightly).
8. I’m going to laugh if it turns out that Cid hired all of the bounty hunters we see to find Omega. Like, if that’s what she uses the money she got from Hemlock for, and she’s basically trying to get Omega out of the situation she got Omega into and goes a little overboard on the means.
9. Ventress! I’ll be honest, Ventress has never been at the top of my favorite character list, though I’ve warmed up to her quite a bit (I used to like the idea of her more than the execution), but I always love Nika Futterman’s performance, and I’m intrigued to see Ventress here at the very least. Because. How. She was very dead. Very, very dead. Not “fell into The Mists” dead—she had a funeral after being dead for months. My only thoughts are that were either seeing her in a flashback sequence that takes place before Dark Disciple, or it turns out that nightsisters can use their force magic to do some weird shit after getting hit by lightning. Either way, I don’t think she’s fighting Wrecker and Hunter here—that’s just some misleading editing.
10. Man, I hope Hemlock dies a lot.
11. Anyway, speaking of the dead and those back from it, Tech is so alive and I’m trying to not be the Smuggest of Gremlins until we for sure see him, but jeez are they making that difficult. (I checked the trailer release blurb on the Star Wars dot com page—it doesn’t mention Tech being dead. It just says the team is “scattered” after the events of season two. Like. Guys, you’re not even trying anymore.)
12. And more on Tech, I do think it’s possible—possible, mind you—that Tech is the guy we see in the clone X armor in front of what looks like the Archium. There are some small differences between that armor and both the armor we see on Clone X in season two, and the Clone X we see speaking later in the trailer—namely, the shoulder straps, what looks like a glass visor covering the two eyeholes, and *sigh* the pouches. And it’s the straps and the pouches that are giving him a bit more of a Tech-ish silhouette—especially the pouches, and especially from behind. If it is Tech, though, I don’t think it’s a brainwashed Tech at all (and honestly, it’s the pouches that make me lean towards not brainwashed if it is Tech in there, because a shin pouch is just a very Tech-and-not-blank-slate thing to wear).
I actually think it’s more likely that it’s Tech in disguise and having taken the armor from the Clone X we see later in the trailer (with some adjustments of his own), and that that’s what’s being referred to by the titles “Infiltration” and “Extraction;” Tech infiltrating imperial forces, and then the others having to get him (and probably the people of Pabu) out. And, if that’s the case, I’m banking on these shots being from the midseason. (I know I said I wasn’t going to speculate on the episode titles. That was aspirational.)
Basically, I could be persuaded that it’s Tech in there or that it’s not. I’m less likely to be persuaded that it’s a brainwashed Tech in there—I still don’t think that’s happening.
12. Whether that is Tech in that armor or not, I do think that the clone X we see speaking in the trailer isn’t the same guy in the armor in the Archium shot.
13. I am SO HAPPY to see Phee back THANK GOODNESS. I was a little worried they’d drop her like a rock, but nope! She’s here! She’s got her cool jacket! We see her ship!
14. There is a criminally small amount of Echo in the trailer, but I’m not giving up on seeing more of him. It’s possible that he’s either a walking spoiler, or that he features a little more heavily in the back half of the season.
15. “The Cavalry Has Arrived” is the most optimistic episode title in the whole damn show and, yes, I will die on this hill.
16. Crosshair. Oh, Crosshair. Someone please save him immediately.
17. There’s a lot of early doom panic around, well, everyone and everyone (especially Hunter) dying that I’m honestly going to ignore going forward. For reasons.

yellowjackets team (alive by season 2) rating and ranking
1. Misty - 9.5/10
i said she was annoying but like i get her now. in both the crash and adult timeline, she has the best story and characterization. maybe because her actresses are so great, but definitely her whole arc is unrivaled.
2. Nat - 9/10
her storylines in both arcs are extremely good. definitely the most important yellowjackets member along with misty, i love their little tandem. i just don't like her purple era but she did find a daughter there!
3. Shauna - 9/10
make up your fucking mind girl! one minute she's against lottie's weird cult shit, the next second she's chasing natalie so she can kill her for food and say the wilderness chose! however her craziness post-birth must be a sort of post natal psychosis. adult shauna makes up like 7 points of the 8.5, she's the better shauna for me because she's a straight up loser with an equally loser husband.
4. Coach Scott - 8/10
high ranking out of pure pity like i am so worried for this man. i hope he's still alive and he's experiencing time-traveling hallucinations or whatever, since time traveling is a pretty big theory. i wish he does survive and all the paul scenes are his present scenes but he's gone off the rocks and thinks he's still in the wilderness. this dude is the only one not extremely or supernatully fucked up bc he didn't participate in the cult thing hopefully. BURN THEM CABINS DOWN BAYBEEE
5. Lottie - 7.5/10
when your schizophrenic dreams are misinterpreted by the rest of the group and you're forced to be the face of cannibalism 😂😂🤣🤣. robbed shauna of her cannibal crown. was just being un-medicated then the rest of the team decided to honor her like a god. there were times were she was annoying but you realize she quite literally has done nothing but every single sidekick of hers decides to speak for her and it just goes wrong every single time.
6. Taissa - 7/10
tie. extremely curious about the bad tai and the man with no eyes, which serves as the only "supernatural" event in the series shown that is not in the wilderness or post-wilderness. it would be fucking crazy if tai was the one who bought "It" in the wilderness instead of it like actually already being there, like maybe that was their home? with all the cult symbols or whatever. sometimes i do just find her boring im sorry, she's just like shauna she's extremely indecisive and it's pissing me off! only 7 bc FREE SIMONE ❤️ joking
8. Travis - 7/10
i pity this man so much but sometimes he's boring and his season 1 arc had me skipping scenes. but his brother went missing, "died", came back, then actually died and then no one said "sorry we had to give up your brother to the wilderness, it was either nat or him and the wilderness chose him! we honestly could've atleast tried in helping him get out of the ice cold water but we were hungy". like can we please give this man a break? i wouldn't be surprised if him and natalie refused to hunt for them, if they're all just going to pick cards and eat each other, why hunt for deer, right?
9. Van - 5/10
i feel like one of the only people with a dislike for van's character like. lottie dickrider, i get you "owe" the wilderness for letting you live like you're obviously the favorite but the way she treats the other yellowjackets pisses me off, especially when she straight up said to travis she wasn't ashamed for sacrificing javi? why is she a stronger indoctrinated christian than lottie? i wish they reveal more about her because to be honest her character's a bit of a blank slate, it would be amazing if they start showing a more deeper relationship between her and whatever's in the wilderness. i feel like, in both the show and the fandom, van doesn't have much to her character without tai. her only storyline without tai is with her mother, which we were shown barely 30 seconds of.
10. Mari - 3/10
i just need her gone
11. girl with the shoulder length hair aka pit girl contender number 56 - 2/10
i remember one line of hers and she was rude to shauna and i just didn't like it
12. lesbian w the cap - 2/10
rude to shauna! dye your hair black and i'll give you a bigger role as possible pit girl number 57

[AO3] Rating: G WC:  1129 Tags: Halloween, Fandom: Spider-man [All media types] Ship: Otto Octavius & OFC Disc: Hello it is nearly Halloween and I have fallen in love with Ghostie/Hollowsart's spiderman AU please enjoy a tiny story <3
Her legs kicked out over the edge of the building, flicking through the random paper she’d found on the top of the building. The paper stated it was at least three weeks old, and how that time had flown, Crash wasn’t entirely sure.
Tumblr media
Despite her best efforts, the paper managed to melt together, ink leaking from one side to the other, blurring the majority of the words from there on out. She could remember that fight. The good Doctor had found his way out of confinement much sooner than anyone had expected, or hoped for.
The soft tap of metal claws on the bricks behind her wasn’t enough for her to move, too familiar with the sound at this point. Her feet kicked again, looking into the hazy afternoon sky.
“Hey, Doc.” The short man sat down next to her, metal arms softly clicking as he settled next to her.
“Acedea.” The lack of banter was what finally made her look over to him. Of everything she had imagined, seeing him in some costume that certainly wasn’t his normal one startling her. A cheap little black and red cloak, some silly little makeup faking a vampire bite, and a very, very human blush on his cheeks pulled the shocked laugh from her chest.
“What are you wearing?”
“It’s of the season!" The anxious answer pulled a small grin from her lips, pulling her legs up to rest her heels on the edges of the building.
"And what season is that?"
"Surely you didn't forget Halloween. Do you think Adrien will approve?” The statement made Crash pause for just a moment, before her hands scrambled for the old newspaper. Even though it was well out of date, the pages melted together, she had managed to hold onto that count of the days. October 10th was marked on the top of the paper, just barely visible. Three weeks ago exactly at this moment. And the comment about Adrien scratched something in her head, and their text messages were opened.
“No… no, no, it can’t be Halloween.” The paper was thrown to the ground, and her phone was in her ungloved hand. Text messages open, she instantly scrolled to two weeks of forgotten messages, all from Mr Toomes, waiting for some response from her. Unfortunately, nearly each one had been sent moments before she had needed to run to the next incident, the next chaotic incident to appear in her life. Most importantly? None of the text messages had been responded to.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/12 10:30 AM] Good Morning. I will be hosting a dinner on the 31st, would you like to join us?
Crash had found herself fighting Rhino at that moment, not even the news crew having shown up just yet.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/18 9:45 AM] I realize I had timed the last message poorly now. Are you interested in joining us?
She remembered this text; a message from her Boss had appeared seconds before Adrien’s, asking if she would be able to come in immediately, with an emergency strapping everyone’s strength.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/21 1:24 PM] We decided to dress in costumes for the dinner, will you have something to wear?
She did not. Shit, Crash remembered that text too. Having stayed on patrol most of those 24 hours, she’d fallen asleep with dreams of almost a mocking costume of Mysterio, a sphere on her head and perhaps a flamboyant cloak on her shoulders.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/24 5:30 PM] Good Evening. Dinner October thirty-first?
Sent seconds after she’d opened all the messages, and seconds before her phone’s battery had died in her hands, leaving her to try, and evidently fail, to respond.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/27 11: 45 AM] Only a few days away, are you interested?
Honestly, there was no excuse for this one. She had been at lunch, a little tired, but there really wasn’t a reason she shouldn’t have responded to this one.
[SMS; Adrien Toomes At 10/31 2:40 PM] Last chance for the invitation tonight.
[SMS; Crash at 10/31 3:04 PM] YES!!!!!!!
[SMS; Crash at 10/31 3:05 PM] I’M SO SORRY GRANDPA!!!
Her hands covered her face again, half forgetting that Otto was still sitting next to her on the edge of the roof. The cool screen pressed against her forehead, and her own form of embarrassment flooded her. Adrien would understand, of course. He never had an issue understanding when she got busy, even if she found herself feeling a little guilty.
A gentle tap on her hip made Crash look up through her fingers, distracted for just a moment from beating herself up.
“Are you joining us tonight?” Otto’s smile was clearly nervous, worried that she had already made plans, that she wouldn’t be joining them as everyone had hoped.
“I don’t even have a costume,” she whispered in horror. “I could wear this…” Crash’s fingers found the edge of her sleeve, plucking the fabric before pressing her lips together. That familiar squirm of nerves appeared in her belly, knowing that wouldn’t be enough time to create an entire costume. Or if there’d even be anything at the shops still.
“Do you still have your original costume?”
“My original costume?” One of Otto’s claws tapped her arm, plucking the now professionally made costume from her arm. Another actuator clicked around the roof behind her, an action that would have made her heightened senses go haywire before. “Yeah, I do.”
That flush was on Otto’s face, right when Crash felt the collar of her costume taken by the actuator, pulling her up from the edge of the building.
“Let’s go!”
Tumblr media
“He’s going to get a royal flush,” Crash suddenly pipped up. The laughter nearly stopped when Crash ended up hanging off Otto’s actuator, lifted just at the hand he was holding, trying to hold a poker face to save his life.
“Acedea!” The actuator flicked, throwing her to the wall. She caught herself easily, flipping off the wall and back to her feet as she easily landed back on her feet, before lacing her hands in front of her chest, a blush hidden by the old mask. “You gave away my hand!”

RWBY VOLUME 8 FINALE AFTERMATH!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
WOW.......What A F***** Finale To End A Volume!!!! I was left surprised, shocked, sad, disappointed and ecstatic with the events that unfolded and also for the future of the RWBY series!!! I have so many theories and headcanons racking in my brain that I’m acting like a Giddy Little Troll 😆. So let’s jump right into the FINAL aftermath of Volume 8....
-(Tick-Tock Took Out The Vine) Before starting into this I want to give a shout out to CRWBY for starting out the episode with the “Warning” for the deaths that we were about to witness. I’m glad they were thoughtful for their fanbase’s wellbeing after watching this finale and hope they continue this trend of “warnings” in the future.
Now onto the first major character death of the episode......Vine 👀. I was fully expecting to see at least one of the Ace-Op members to die in the finale and I was actually quite surprised to see it only be Vine. Given the circumstances that Qrow, Vine, Elm, Marrow and Robyn were put into because of Harriet’s blind loyalty, it wouldn’t be too hard to have expected more characters to die in that situation.
Vine has always been the calm one within the team, so to see him willing to sacrifice himself to save his friends from death was a very touching moment. I was also honestly quite surprised he could used his semblance like that as well 😳. I kinda wished we had seen some more aspects of him extending his aura like that in previous episodes, but that’s just a bit of a small nit-pick of mine.
It’s also going to be interesting how this will impact the rest of the Ace-Op members going forward, especially Harriet. This will no doubt cause some inner turmoil for her character and only time will tell what type of effect it will hold in future dire situations .
-(Fighting For Your Beliefs) Hmmm......I’ll be honest......I was a bit disappointed with Winter and Ironwood’s fight 😓. Now I have a few reasons why I feel like this so let me explain....
1:I think the decision to make Ironwood fight with a “BFG” against Winter was a poor one. As we have seen in Volume 7 episode 11 we know that Ironwood can fight much better with his duel hand cannons. Watching him fight with a bigger weapon against a much more agile opponent didn’t feel right to me lol.
2: Having Winter win the fight using the maiden powers. Now I have no issue with Penny giving the powers to Winter, but I would have preferred if she could have found a way to defeat Ironwood without having the convenient power up. Winter is a very good fighter in her own right and I think having her defeat Ironwood with her abilities alone would mean much more before she was given the maiden powers by Penny.
3: Now I have said this before in previous posts but I would have liked it if Qrow was the one to fight Ironwood. There was indeed a bit of a build up for Qrow to fight Ironwood this volume so I do feel we were a bit blue-balled for that confrontation. Then after some time to think about it I feel the decision to make Winter be the one face Ironwood was the right one. Considering that this was the end of Atlas and that these two characters are the most associated with Atlas, made their fight against each other more fitting then leaving it up to Qrow.
The only positives I can give this fight is that it showcased more of Winter’s fighting potential and I was pleased how the animators made her fight with both Ironwood and later with Cinder. 😊
-(For Her Friends) Now onto definitely the most important part of this episode......Penny’s death. Now I’m really gonna be honest with all of you......I was not at all surprised that Penny died in the finale 😔. Ever since she gained the maiden powers she was always gonna have the “Red Flag” known as Cinder be connected to her. I more or less imagined that Penny’s powers would be taken by Cinder at some point and Penny would make some sacrificial play to save her friends while she still had her robot body. So when I witnessed her second death, as a REAL GIRL, I was shouting out “How could I be so RIGHT and so WRONG all at the same time!?” 😫
Now what has me intrigued about this second death is the part about Jaune’s involvement. I’m gonna keep my opinion about this choice from the writers neutral for now because I feel this is deeply connected to what they have already written for Volume 9. There’s is something they are planning for Jaune in the future and I want to see the whole picture of what they are drawing out before giving this either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. 😤
I have one more thing I want to bring up about this, and this is my opinion so if anyone wants to skip over this part I totally understand......so here it is. I truly believe Penny will be brought back to life in the future 🙂. When she first “died” back in volume 3 I fully believed she would be back eventually, so even if the circumstances are different this time around I am still having that same feeling that she will come back. I understand everyone else has their own feelings about what happen to Penny so I will not disapprove how everyone feels about it. It’s just how I feel about it is all 😊.....
-(The Captain Goes Down With His Ship) So.........this is the end of James Ironwood. As Atlas inevitably falls, so to does the man that represented as its symbol throughout the series and it’s aspects of strength, elitism and control.....
.......yeah I’m not buying it 😒
Something feels off if this is how he “permanently” dies..... I understand the symbolism of his “fall” parallels that of Atlas crashing down and being destroyed, but him dying doesn’t feel complete to me....
Not to mention this man has survived with half his body being destroyed in the past with what I believe to be nothing but his sheer will. So if I had to bet on anything I think he would have found a way to have survived Atlas’s crash and the flood that came afterwards....but I think he would be terribly wounded in the process....
There are also a few characters that I feel he hasn’t had a satisfying conclusion with that still needs to be addressed......Qrow, Oz and Glynda.
Also forgot to mention that apparently Arther Watts is dead too.....yeah I believe he’s not dead either 🤨. In fact I’m fully expecting Watts will survive but will be horribly burned and scarred the next time we see him. He will vow vengeance against Cinder and will stop at nothing to obtain his revenge on her. So it would be really lucky of him to find an unconscious and badly wounded general nearby that he could kidnap and experiment on to be his personal attack dog later to kill Cinder 🤔......wouldn’t that be a something to see lol
I’ll gladly wear some clown shoes and makeup in believing that we will be seeing both Ironwood and Watts again in the future, and if I’m wrong then I’ll gladly accept that L from everybody.....till then see you again next time general Ironwood and Arther Watts 🤗
-(Volume 9 and The Future Of RWBY) Alright! There is a couple of reasons why this post has taken me three weeks for me to write 😓.
First reason obviously is because of my job 😭. Some things have been happening at my work that has been stressing me out for weeks and honestly it’s been exhausting to even write anything....
Second reason is that over the course of the past few weeks after the finale aired I have been non-stop thinking of several headcannons, theories and speculations on what may happen in volume 9 and future volumes of RWBY 😆!! Don’t believe me? Here is some of the crazy s*** that came out of my head lol
-Team RWBY, Jaune and Neo meet the God Of Darkness
-The God Of Darkness gives Team RWBY power ups and new outfits to fight against Salem. Also gives Neo the ability to speak.
-Oscar vs Raven
-Salem sends Cinder to Vale to search for the Crown of Choice......but not alone. She gives Cinder 4 more experimental S.E.W Grimm to aid her and one of them happens to be Summer Rose.
-Horribly burned and scarred Watts kidnaps a wounded Ironwood and experiments on his body to change him into a complete cyborg with one objective......kill Cinder.
Believe me I have more context for each of those that I just addressed but that’s for separate posts that I hope to make in the future lol 🤗
Well that’s about all I got for that finale review and I literally cannot wait to see what happens next 😤 lol. I hope to engage with some of you in the fandom in the future and hope we get along 😎
Till next time........BUH-BYE!!!!

-105 please
NB i am told this was meant to say 1-50
thanks queen <3 here we go
1. Who is your favourite ghost?
lately? it's been kitty. and i'm contractually obligated to love the captain
2. If you could see the ghosts like Alison, which one do you think would come the closest to making you want to leave the house?
the obvious answer is julian but probably actually robin, i HATE being spooked (as the asker can attest xx)
3. How would you feel if you couldn’t see the ghosts, but knew they were there, like Mike?
i'd feel mad jealous even though i'd actually have it pretty good. the other person would be trying so hard to tell me how much it sucks and i'd just be like 'but... goast.....'
4. Would you want to see ghosts like Alison, or would you rather be ignorant to their goings and doings?
again my immediate answer is I WANNA SEE THEM but i also know that might suck in many ways. at least for a while. i am not a patient person so i don't know if i could learn to live with them like alison could. but on the other hand... the chance to actually talk to people from the fucking actual past... thinking emoji!
5. If you were a ghost living in the house, would you rather be upstairs with the main nine ghosts, or downstairs with the plague ghosts?
upstairs for sure, sorry to the plague ghosts but i do not want to hang out in a basement for eternity
6. If you were someone who died in the house would you rather be “sucked off” immediately, or would you like to hang around a bit and get to know some of the other ghosts before getting “sucked off”?
i would probably just end up staying forever because i'm scared of the void of death.... <3
7. Which ghost would you miss the most if they were “sucked off” in the next series?
UNBELIEVABLE question? i'd miss ALL OF THEM. but see question 1 also
8. Which ghost do you think you’d get along with the best?
it's hard to say. i think they would all get on my nerves because as said i am not very patient. but the one who would irritate me LEAST... maybe pat?
9. Which ghost would you say you’re most like?
captain. not to be a cliche but i'm gay and repressed. and also irritable and grumpy
10. Which ghost would you say you’re least like?
JULIAN
11. What is a (popular or not) fan theory that you love?
(pasted from prev answer) i don’t actually like ship it because he’s definitely older than her, but a couple of people have said kitty sometimes acts like she has a crush on thomas. which is cute to me even if she does need to get better taste (love u kitty xxx)
12. What is a (popular or not) fan theory that you don’t quite agree with?
(pasted from prev answer) not so much a specific theory but i disagree with the general idea that anything of consequence went on with the captain and havers. i think it was meant to come across as just a snippet of the captain’s poor sad gay life and, as several brain geniuses have pointed out, due to the timing of germany invading france + the captain’s medals the flashback must have been from a good few years BEFORE he died. and i think the flashback was the last time they ever saw each other, so i don’t think that a) havers has any link to the captain’s eventual death or 2) anything romantic ever happened between them
13. Favourite ship and why?
captain x my cute oc boyfriend because i've tailored it to my exact needs. why ship retail when you can ship bespoke?
14. Least favourite ship and why? (Please be nice though!)
patcap as we all know. like YES i'm a contrary bitch so i don't like things that are popular and i do think i'm better than everyone else... but really idk why exactly i just don't gel with it at all. and when i've tried to read fic in the past it feels to me like their characters are kind of flattened. and i think the captain is too much of a bitch. and i think pat is serving us normie heterosexual. it's the 'cinnamon roll' ship of this fandom and i can't STAND (metaphorical) cinnamon rolls. AND ALSO pat is not the simple soft dad cinnamon roll fandom often makes him out to be! like he is a very nice person but he's also fucked up and insane like all of them. anyway my brain charges extremely low rents
15. If you could go back in time and live in the house/on the property at the same time as one of the ghosts when they were alive, who would you pick?
captain. need to know wtf's going on with him
16. Would you rather inherit the house (and its ghostly inhabitants), or just visit?
realistically... visit. i think i would lose my mind eventually if i lived there
17. Do you think we’ll ever know how every ghost died? Do you think there will be anyone whose death we’ll never learn about?
i hope we do, but i also appreciate that isn't the sole point of the series, otherwise it would be kinda boring and discovering how they died wouldn't be as impactful. if there's anyone's death we don't find out about, i think it would probably be robin? lol what if it was so long ago he just forgot
18. What is your favourite Ghosts fanfiction?
so i'm stupid and i never use bookmarks on ao3..... i've read a LOT of different fics i like but do you think i can revisit them? no! because i'm stupid! so i cannot fairly pick an absolute fave sorry
19. What is your favourite Ghosts fan art?
THIS <3
all the babies and children on here talk about horrible histories the show being 'their childhood'........ put some respect on terry deary's name. and this artist did!
20. Tag 5 favourite Ghosts fandom content creators!
honestly i'm not good with like. knowing people. but here are 5 fanfics i've enjoyed (based on the author's replies in my inbox because, again, i am too stupid to use bookmarks)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/28287567
https://archiveofourown.org/works/29868645

https://archiveofourown.org/works/28067277/chapters/68761830
https://archiveofourown.org/works/26957662/chapters/65795407
21. Are there any historical periods you wish we’d have gotten to see a ghost/ghosts from but didn’t?
(pasted from other post) not to be predictable but i would have liked to see a 1960s ghost. like a mod who crashed his scooter or something. we have enough 20th century ghosts though but i believe the us remake has some kind of hippie ghost…
22. What is something you’re hoping to see in a future series?
flashback to the captain getting some. like implied or whatever. i can't cope with him dying a virgin. he needs this
23. What is something you’re hoping to see in a future series, but know we probably WON’T get to see?
(pasted from other post) alison meets someone else who can see ghosts, and we get to see the ghosts at THEIR house…. i always love it when we see extra ghosts but i know they probably won’t make any recurring because it would come off as running out of ideas. but i still think they should add a 90s teenager named roy
24. Which lesser-seen characters would you like to see more of in future series?
tbh there's none i can think of that i think we should SEE more of, they get a pretty good balance. there are some i definitely want to learn more about though
25. Are there any characters you wish we’d see less?
don't make me pick a least favourite child </3 but also i think thomas could probably tone it down a bit.
26. Favourite one-liner?
I'LL WAIT FOR YOU, MY COMELY NUG - me whenever i order chicken nuggets on just eat
27. Favourite episode?
DON'T EVEN... i like 2x06 and 3x05 a lot
28. Top 5 headcanons for [insert character name here]?
i'm going to do the captain because obviously i am
- he may or may not have been lavender married
- he may or may not have had a drinking problem
- public schoolboy with domineering father, clearly
- IF he had a lavender wife then she spent all her time in the company of her 'odd' female friend who wore men's clothes, smoked cigars and drove a motorbike. the captain was obviously clueless
that's 4 so a cheeky one for fanny:
- she did a lot of medicinal coke
29. Whose costume is your favourite?
kitty. gotta love an ott ballgown
30. Whose costume is your least favourite?
that's an offtopic question. you have been stopped.
31. If you could do a complete redesign of one of the ghosts’ costumes, whose would you change and how?
i would give thomas his double denim
32. If you could play any of the existing ghosts, which one would you want to play and why?
i think i'd be good at playing mary. meek weird girl who says things that don't make any sense? omg she is LITERALLY me
33. Which ghost would you least like to play and why?
julian, i'm not getting my pussy out
34. What one thing would you miss most if you became a ghost and had to live by the same rules as the Button House ghosts?
FOOD. food. eating and food.
35. How do you think one or more of the ghosts whose deaths we haven’t seen died? Or, if we know the cause of death but not the reason for the death (like Mary being burned as a witch or Humphrey being beheaded), why do you think they were killed?
i think mary's execution might have had something to do with her husband's death and her being unfairly accused or something. also like, she just acts kinda weird, and we know how that often played out for women back then...
and i think the captain died in some really boring mundane natural causes way (congenital heart attack or something) but he's stuck around because a) he's never come to terms with the whole h*mo thing and 2) he was just really mad that he died so boringly
36. Favourite [insert character name here] moment?
CAPTAIN GETTING KITTY TO SMILE
37. What do you think [insert character name here] was like when they were alive? Do you think they were exactly the same as they are now, or do you think there were any major or minor differences?
ok i'll do fanny for this one. i think she was less domineering when she was alive, in death she clearly thinks of herself as above the other ghosts and bosses them around, and when she talks shit about george it's not like he can get back at her in any way. but it would be interesting to see how they interacted when both were alive
38. It’s your turn to pick a movie for film club! What are you watching?
(from prev post) i haven’t seen any movies errr….. maybe austin powers because it’s so sad that julian died just a few years before it came out because he would love it and get really annoying about quoting it all the time and it would be really funny for the captain (who thought the movie was unironic) to have to deal with that. and fanny would NOT COPE.
39. Would you rather share a room with Thomas (constantly sighing and reciting bad poetry) or Fanny (falls out of the window screaming every night)?
fanny. men be quiet challenge
40. If you could do some kind of historical swap (i.e. place a ghost in a different period from their own), who would you choose and what period are they from now?
i would like to give kitty the chance to be a 20th or 21st century girl. maybe an era like the 60s or 80s that was known for daring fashions, i think she would luv it
41. Let’s settle this once and for all. Who’s the real leader, the Captain or Pat?
fanny
42. If the ghosts could eat, what is one food you would like to share with them that they might not have tried before?
doritos tangy cheese, mountain dew baja blast, 4loko. i would make thomas try a jalapeno. i would also make them try my cooking experiments because i do that to anyone i live with
43. You’ve heard rumours of a tenth upstairs ghost who doesn’t often venture out of their room to visit with the other residents of the house. Who are they? (i.e. make up a ghost OC. I know i’m putting you on the spot. I just want to see what you come up with.)
it's george button and his bitch ass is too scared of his wife to come down. his downfall comes when he finds out there's another gay ghost and simply has to clap them cheeks (he fails)
44. Tell me a song you think [insert character name here] would like, or a song that reminds you of them!
i think alison's probably already introduced him to them but thomas + anything by the smiths. i would also make the captain sit quietly and listen to a tracy chapman cd (for my lover...)
45. What song(s) do you think would annoy certain ghosts the most?
the smiths would annoy everyone except thomas. literally they'd all be trying to re-kill him
46. Who is one actor you’d love to see guest star? What kind of character would you like to see them play?
steve coogan as like. anyone. preferably a ghost. a roman centurion ghost if you wanna get cultural. but seriously i just want alan
47. If you could have one Horrible Histories song in Ghosts (either sung by a ghost/ghosts, or playing on the TV or computer for them to watch), which one would you want it to be and why?
that song about how no 'british' stuff is actually british. like tea. i want julian to melt down
48. What do you think the ghosts’ jobs would be in a modern living-human AU where they’re all just chaotic housemates?
captain & kitty: have their own wedding planning company
julian: still a politician but instead of an mp he's like a parish councillor. handforth antics
fanny: headteacher
robin: cool off the shits teacher at same school who undermines fanny wherever possible. deals weed to students
mary: runs a shop selling like healing crystals and incense and dreamcatchers
humphrey: customer service supervisor who actually likes his job because he takes no shit and just fucks with every single customer
thomas: unemployed podcaster
pat: dogwalker
49. What is one modern invention you think [insert character name here] would be surprised or confused by?
fanny would be so baffled by any Feminine Products. when she discovers tampons it's all she can talk about for a week. the mooncup made her go into a coma
50. Name an AU you haven’t seen someone create content for, but which you’d love to read a fic or see some art for.
not to be the way i am but i'd love if anyone ever drew art or something about my au which is a modern-day au where fanny and captain are alison and kitty's divorced parents, julian and robin are captain's brothers and alison's wack uncles, mary is their childhood nanny, thomas is a student lodger at button house, humphrey is a cat and pat is just some guy. but yeah in the past i've had a couple of anons on here mention it and i did melt into a puddle... i think if someone did art i'd explode and die. in a good way like

“Mahiru!” Kuro called his name as they fell through the darkness of the mirror. He didn’t know where they were or why his brother attacked them. He shoved those questions aside to focus on saving Mahiru. A few feet from him, Mahiru was trying to center himself as they rapidly descended. He couldn’t see the floor and he worried the landing might kill them.
He shrugged off his haori, he tore the fabric to make it longer. He tied his sword to one end so the weight would help the makeshift rope reach Mahiru. Kuro tossed it towards Mahiru who gripped the tessaiga tightly. He seemed to understand his plan and nodded up to him. With all his strength, Kuro pulled him upwards until he was in reach.
Once they were closer, Mahiru was able to grab his hand. They pulled each other closer and he wrapped his arms around him. Relief washed through him the moment he felt Kuro’s protective embrace. The wind rushing past his cheek reminded him that they were falling. He searched the darkness for something they could do to save themselves.
“I can sense the ground approaching. Cats land on their feet but this might hurt. Can’t deal.” He muttered and adjusted his hold on Mahiru. Kuro cradled him against his chest to protect him the crash. He felt Mahiru’s heart racing through his chest and squeezed him gently. No matter what challenges they might face in the mirror, he would protect him.
Mahiru reached up and cupped his face in his hand. He whispered a chant and warmth spread throughout Kuro’s body. He didn’t understand the ancient spell but he knew that he was giving him his spiritual energy. After he completed the chant, Mahiru summoned a barrier to surround them. He prayed that his spells were enough to support Kuro.
Kuro couldn’t take his eyes off the ground and prepared himself for the impact. The barrier touched the ground first and it slowed their fall slightly. As he landed, the ground cracked and shifted beneath his feet. He lost his footing but he didn’t let go of Mahiru and continued to protect him. They fell to the ground with Mahiru on top of his chest.
For a moment, they merely laid on the ground together and tried to catch their breath. Mahiru was the first to move and he sat up. He immediately looked over Kuro’s body for injuries caused by the fall. Aside from a few scratches caused by debris, he was uninjured. He ran his hand over his cheek lovingly to heal the tiny marks. “Did you cut your feet during the landing?”
“Your spell protected me.” He reassured him and placed his hand over Mahiru’s. Kuro didn’t let go of his hand as they stood and glanced around their surroundings. The ground began to glow and the light drew their attention to it. A small gasp escaped him when he found that they were standing on a large mirror. Cracks covered the ground like a spiderweb. “I hope we don’t fall through again. I only want to go through something like that once in my life.”
“At least we’ll be together if we start falling again.” Mahiru said. He didn’t know how they would be able to escape the mirror. He closed his eyes and projected his spiritual energy to search for anyone nearby. A sigh of disappointed told Kuro that he couldn’t find someone. “I don’t sense Misono or Hyde. Are you able to smell the flowers?”
“No.” He shook his head and a frown passed over Mahiru’s face. Kuro tenderly squeezed his hand to reassure him and the tension left his face. They didn’t exchange a word but the gesture was comfort enough for Mahiru. “The only thing we can do now is wander around and hope we find a route out of the mirror. Be careful not to cut your feet on the broken glass. Do you want me to carry you? I’m a demon so the glass won’t hurt me.”
“I’m fine.” Mahiru was grateful for Kuro’s kindness but he couldn’t ask him to walk through the mirror on his own. He wanted to face the challenge together as partners. “We should clear the shards so the only thing we have to worry about are the cracks.”
He stretched out his hands before him and created a wall with his spiritual power. Slowly, he moved the wall forward. The glass shards were also pushed forward when it met the wall. Mahiru carefully stepped on the clearing and then grinned up at Kuro. “Your control over your power has gotten better. You know a lot more spells too.”
“I can support you in fights but I’m not confident fighting on my own yet.” Mahiru admitted. He did his best to study new techniques but his powers were best for protecting or healing others. The compliment from Kuro made him smile with pride though. He didn’t enjoy fighting so he preferred that his powers could help others.
They explored the dark room with little to help them find their way. Mahiru stepped onto a piece of the mirror and the image beneath him changed. He looked down where a hazy scene played before them. In the glass, a young Misono was speaking with a blond boy. They held a mirror between them and Misono asked: “A mirror? It doesn’t look powerful.”
“That makes the mirror all the more powerful. This heirloom will protect you so always keep it close, Misono.”
The words made Mahiru recall the story Misono told him earlier. His brother had given him the mirror and it allowed him to see everything in the inn. Did the mirror also store the things it had seen? He placed his hand on Kuro’s arm to stop him and gestured to the mirror. He told him his thoughts and added: “These are Misono’s memories. We might be able to find a way to escape if we watch.”
“Can it show us how Misono and my brother met? When I faced him earlier, he said that he owed Misono his life. We’re demons but Lily has always been a good person. He wouldn’t sell those black jewel shards unless he thought it was to protect someone he cared about.” Kuro hadn’t spoken with his brother in years but he still had faith in his kindness.
“I don’t sense a spiritual energy within the mirror so I can’t manipulate it. I wonder how we can search the mirrors for memories.” Mahiru mused and knelt on the ground. He touched the image and a cold wave suddenly rushed over him. He recognized the sensation since he felt something similar when Misono used the mirror’s power on him.
His vision blurred for a few seconds. Mahiru rubbed his eyes and then he opened them to find that the world around him had changed. They were in a castle but the layout was different from the others he saw in the feudal era. Kuro was still beside him but he appeared confused as well. He started to ask him where they could be but then he noticed Misono in the distance.
Misono was a young child and he rolled a marble on a low desk. The violet jewel hit the mirror beside him and then slid off the table. He rushed to catch it but his brother was faster. “You shouldn’t play with the shikon jewel, Misono. I don’t have to remind how powerful the jewel is. The demon souls we used to empower the jewel has made it more powerful but unstable as well.”
“I know that, Mikuni.” Misono pouted. “There’s nothing for me to do while you’re gone. I can only play shogi with Doubt Doubt and I’ve already defeated him five times. It’s not a fun challenge anymore.”
“I have time before I need to deliver the jewel to the buyer. How about you play with your brother? I have to warn you that I’m much smarter than JeJe.” He chuckled and sat across the table from Misono.
“Licht told us about two human brothers who tainted the jewel years ago.” Mahiru hands flew to his mouth when he realized the implication. “I thought that they died.”
“We died over eighty years ago.” The voice caused them to turn around to where Misono stood behind them. Kuro drew his sword and Mahiru gripped his bow yet it quickly became clear that Misono didn’t intend to fight them. He was walked past them and watched the past with lonely eyes. His hands shook slightly around the mirror.
A butterfly landed on the mirror and Misono forced himself to take a deep breath. He turned the mirror and changed the image projected around them. The floor turned to dirt and the first thing Mahiru noticed was a smashed tombstone. Touma stood over the grave but Mahiru knew that he was simply a memory Misono was showing them.
Misono rose out of the grave and coughed dirt from his lungs. Confusion covered his face and he looked around him. He placed his hand over his heart yet he couldn’t feel his heartbeat. His brows furrowed together and he tried to make sense of how he was alive again. A mirror was dropped in front of him and Misono hesitantly picked it up.
“I have resurrected you. Tomorrow, I will do the same for with your brother. The knowledge you two possess may be useful to me. Now, follow me and I will give you shards to taint.” Touma told him. His eyes were cold and Misono gripped the mirror. He summoned shards behind Touma and aimed them at the man’s heart. Without taking his eyes off Misono, he said: “I heard tales of the Alicein siblings. Your pride is the only thing greater than your intelligence.”
Misono screamed in pain and clutched at his chest. Touma took out a pouch and squeezed it in his hand. The pressure on his chest increased and he was forced to lower the mirror shards. “I have revived you but I still hold your life in my hand. I suggest you work with me. If either of you try to betray me, you will die a second time. I promise you that it will be much more painful as well.”
“Since that day, I have made tainted shards for Touma and Mikuni travels the country to sell them. Touma wishes to cause chaos throughout the country. My brother and I believe that he was something more planned but he hasn’t told us.” Misono explained and bit his lip. “Touma is always watching me but my mirror is the only place he cannot enter.”
“I’m sorry that we had to be so aggressive when we attacked you. We wanted Touma to believe that we were fighting.” The butterfly on his mirror spoke and transformed into Snow Lily. He bowed to his brother and continued, “I heard that you were freed but I couldn’t believe it at first. I’m so glad that you’re safe and you are friends with Hyde again.”
“It’s a long story but yours must be a complicated one as well.” Kuro said and nodded towards Misono.
“Once I learned that the curse was broken, I went to see you again. But Touma attacked me. He would’ve killed me if Misono hadn’t been there. He hid me in his mirror and created an illusion that tricked Touma. He thinks I’m dead. I owe Misono my life.” Lily told them. “The Alicein brothers don’t want to help Touma but it’s impossible for them to fight back.”
“Thank you for saving my brother.” Kuro said to Misono. Lily was slightly surprised that his brother was so open with his emotions when he could be awkward in the past. He would show how he cared through his action rather than direct words. He wondered if something had happened to change him. “You can’t fight Touma but you intend to, don’t you, Misono.”
“Yes.” Misono looked down at his mirror. “My brother and I have talked about it many times but we can’t face Touma directly. He can kill us instantly.”
“You want our help? That must be why you dragged us into your mirror where Touma can’t see us here and we can talk freely.” Mahiru was relieved that he wouldn’t have to fight Misono and Lily. “We’re happy to stop Touma. Do you know where he is?”
Misono nodded and flipped his mirror again to change the scene around them. A large castle towered over them. Kuro didn’t recognize the landscape around the castle that could help them find Touma. He looked up at the horizon and noticed that there was light veil over the castle. “Touma’s castle is located beyond the lake of illusions. There is a barrier around the castle as well. It’s nearly impossible to enter it.”
“Do you know if Touma has a weakness?” Mahiru asked.
In answer, Misono lifted his mirror again. “My mirror remembers everything it has seen. For a time, Touma held it. I found a memory that may help us defeat him.”
Mahiru was confused when the reflection wasn’t of Touma. He saw his mother within the mirror and he gasped. He hesitantly touched the image and the world became dark around him. The only light provided for Mahiru was a dim fire in the distance. He was unsure if he should walk through the dark unknown. Why would his mother appear in the mirror? Mahiru felt a hand wrap around his and he looked up at Kuro beside him. He calmed himself and he walked forward.
They entered a cave where two people were speaking. He immediately recognized his mother sitting beside an injured man. Mahiru reminded himself that they were in the past and the woman wasn’t his mother despite the resemblance. When he was closer, he could see that the man Touma. His mother knew Touma in the past? Touma hated his family.
“I found this mirror, Touma. It belonged to a human who was able to manipulate the sacred jewel. This heirloom may help us learn more about the jewel and how to contain it.” Hanako held the mirror in front of her face as she leaned over Touma. “I haven’t been able to unlock the mirror’s power or memories to learn much.”
“Why did you save me?” Touma would ask her the same question each day. “Most would’ve left a demon like me for dead yet you brought me here and treated my injuries. As the eldest daughter of the Shirota family, you should know better than to pity a demon. My legs are broken but I can kill you and take the jewel whenever I want. I can sense that you’re holding the sacred jewel.”
“That’s the reason I decided to rescue you. My family has held the jewel for generation but we have never heard of a person who could sense its presence. Do you have a spell that allows you to do so? When did you discover this ability? Were you born with it?” With each question, she leaned closer to him. Hanako tapped her finger on Touma’s forehead and said, “Reject.”
After she recited the short spell, light exploded from her finger and caused him to slump back against the wall. She chuckled and said, “You can try to kill me but I promise you won’t be able to. I’m not a weak girl and you should know that, Touma. Also, you can’t poison me when I hold the jewel in my heart.”
“… Your family still wishes to sacrifice you to seal away the jewel?” He asked her in a small voice. Silence filled the cave and the only sound between them was the fire cracking nearby. Shadows passed over her face and he couldn’t read her expression. The laughter and teasing had left her voice when she finally answered him.
“It was the reason I was born.” She said and rubbed an ointment over his forehead where she had struck him lightly. “My parents never made it a secret. It’s my duty as the eldest child of the Shirota family to protect the world from the jewel. I cannot change my fate.”
“Then why do you research the jewel so desperately?” His retort made her draw her hand back sharply. She glanced at the mirror beside them and touched the cold glass. “I can still remember the day we met. We were both children and you asked me for everything I knew about the jewel. I didn’t understand why so I didn’t answer. I think I know why now. You want a future you choose for yourselves— like I do.”
“Isn’t it sad?” She touched her heart where the jewel was sealed. “You think the jewel will give you the power to change your future even after you’ve seen how it has destroyed so many. You are truly a foolish man, Touma. This jewel cannot grant your wish. It will only consume you. Is there anything you long for aside from the jewel? Friendship? Family? Love?”
He didn’t answer her and she let out a frustrated breath. Hanako sat next to him and stared at the fire. “I would like to have a family with a good man. We would have a boy and build a simple home for him. It’s impossible now but we might be able to exist in another world. Do you have a similar dream?”
“I know better than to hold foolish dreams like that.” He said instead of answering her directly.
“You believe that lie, don’t you? You won’t give up on taking the jewel because of that. I pity foolish men like you the most.” She said and rose to her foot. Hanako slipped a necklace out from beneath her clothes and swung the pendent from her finger. “This pendent is your weakness. I will use this if you try to steal the jewel after you fully recover.”
Mahiru was pulled out of the scene and he couldn’t move for a moment. He didn’t think seeing his mother again would be so difficult. He was still trying to make sense of the interaction between Touma and his mother. His legs were numb and he wanted to sit down but the mirror room was empty. Kuro wrapped his arms around him and the support helped center him.
Misono didn’t seem to notice how pale Mahiru was and asked, “Do you recognize that pendent? It must be in the possession of the Shirota family even if Hanako didn’t tell your family about its power.”
“I don’t know. I can ask my uncle if he knows.” Mahiru stared at the ground. He stepped forward and placed his hand on Misono’s shoulder. “Thank you for your help. We will stop Touma and free you from his control. He’s watching the outside world. Is there a way to leave without Touma knowing that we’re working together?”

Sirenade: Chapter Ten
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Sirenade once more. Thank you to everyone who enjoys reading. I’ve enjoyed this fandom and I look forward to writing even after Sirenade is done. This week’s chapter is focusing on our little cliffhanger from
Chapter 7, again there are mentions of death I'm not sure if it classifies as suicide, but like last chapter it just a warning. So hope you enjoy this week’s chapter and as always Stay Tuned!
Start: Prologue
Previous: Chapter 9
Next: Chapter 11
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 10
“Gotcha!” Smitty, completely out of breath has used most of his energy to reach John before he’d been unable to catch him. While using the remaining energy to keep himself and John from plunging into the steep drop down the cliff. Even though the position he had to hold was hurting him, Smitty was going to hold it for as long as he could. “As much as I’d like to hang out this isn’t very uncomfortable. Help me pull you up.”
Smitty tried to pull John up with all his strength without losing his balance and position, but with John not having any way of help pull himself up their efforts were useless. With every movement, Smitty could feel himself being dragged down with John. If he didn’t think of something soon then this wasn’t going to end well. “Smitty stop!”
John’s protest startled Smitty causing him to slightly loosen his grip on John. Immediately he tightened his hold on John before looking down at his best friend. “What do you mean stop I’m pulling you up if it kills me.”
Again Smitty tried to haul and tug John by his arms in an attempt to heave back onto a stable surface, but no matter how determined Smitty was in saving John he physically didn’t have the strength to do it. The more Smitty thought about how severe the situation was. The more Smitty eyes slowly began to fill up with tears, and the weaker his grip became.
“Smit! Stop, please. It’s no use. To think I brought you up here just to-”
“No, I won’t let you give up. Let alone die! We can get help, just don’t do this John.”
Didn’t know what was worse, having his best friend telling him to let him fall and die, or that his usual childlike attitude had been replaced by a distraught weeping creature holding the only witness that had seen this side of him over a cliff.
“I’d rather it be me than you. Besides, what good would it be if we were both dead.” John gave Smitty a heavy-hearted smile followed by a playful yet tearful wink before pressing his dull nails into Smitty’s wrists. The sudden and unexpected action caused Smitty to wince from the pain which released his tight grasp just enough for John to break himself free from it. As quickly as his body was able to react he tried to reach for John again. However, this time he wasn’t fast enough just barely missing his painted fingertips before John fell straight down the cliff only causing a microscopic ripple in the flood tidal waves that crashed into the sediments.
“John!” Smitty’s cry echoed through the forest as half his upper body dangled out from the cliff, his sobs barely heard through the claps of seafoam eroding the surface. Smitty hesitated on his decision on how to save John knowing it wouldn’t take long before the currents would carry him out to sea, but he couldn't outweigh the logical answer from his anxiety. Worried that even after rescuing John, his best friend would reject the idea of monstrous appearance. With his thoughts clouding his main priority, he finally pushed all of his anxiety and logic and picked a worthy option.
Without a second thought, Smitty ran in the direction of the village. Once he felt his distance was acceptable he sprinted towards the overhang of the mountain, pushing off the end with all of his strength, and diving straight into the rising tides. Just as he was about to enter the water Smitty’s legs were replaced with his sapphire and ruby scaled covered appendage. Allowing for his entrance to leave him unharmed. Swiftly he swam through the multi-colored coral trying to spot for any signs of John.
Trapped between the coral and rocks floated John’s lifeless body taking in unhealthy amounts of seawater. Smitty pushed and maneuvered around the obstacles, grabbed John’s unresponsive limbs, dragged him up towards the surface. He wasted no time in hauling himself and John between the rocks to remain hidden and out of sight.
Fuck how do they do this again?!
Smitty placed both of his hands on John's chest and began to press down in attempts to remove the water from his lungs or to get him breathing again. Smitty had learned the maneuver he remembered to be called CPR, but didn’t pay attention to Tyler when teaching him the technique. Something he was regretting right now, and when John still wasn’t moving Smitty quickly settled one hand on the back of John’s head and his other hand closed his nose. Without haste, Smitty planted his lips onto John’s giving amounts of oxygen.
Please let this work
John’s lips twitched under his own, startlingly him when John turned to his side and began to hurl out the large amounts of saltwater trapped his lungs. Smitty sighed in relief seeing John was alive, he wiped away his tears and enveloped in John in a rapid hug.
“I think I just died.” Smitty laughed at his best friend as he too clasped onto Smitty accepting the embrace. “No, I think I did die.”
Smitty gave John a puzzled look about to ask him about his sudden statement but stopped himself when he felt a hand on his scaly limb. He had been so caught up in the situation that he’d forgotten to shift back. “No, this...this is real John.”
“Nuh, prove it. Pinch me.”
“I’ll do you one better.” Smitty proceeds to punch John in the arm. The older male flinched and rubbed the spot Smitty hit. John’s eyes widened with confusion then shifted to curiosity the more he inspected Smitty. Even though Smitty was overjoyed that John hadn’t drowned he couldn’t shake off the overwhelming anxiety as neither proceeded to speak.
“It’s pretty.”
“W-what?” Smitty felt his embarrassment as John continued to inspect him. Still, waiting for the rejection as his heart raced with emotions, yet John didn't seem like he was afraid of Smitty. Quite the opposite his emotions reflected excitement and interest, not rage and fear.
“Is this what you’ve been hiding from me?” Smitty nodded.
“Why?”
“I thought you’d hate me…. I don’t know. I didn’t know what to expect. The only thing I knew was that I didn’t want you to hate me for being this.” Smitty felt his tears return as the thought about the possibilities of John refusing to laugh with him, to talk to him, to look at him.
“Smit you could never do that. I care about you too much, you’ve made this town feel like home again.” John offered Smitty a small loving smile which he returned. “And I feel something else for you too…”
Smitty cocked his eyebrow as watched John’s eyes flicker to his lips. His gaze reconnected with Smitty’s baffled look. His face drew closer slowly eliminating the space between them. Smitty’s cheek burned as John closed the gap between them, their lips brushed each other before connecting. Sparks of passion, lust, and comfort filled the atmosphere as their lips captured every moment together. Even as they broke away from each other Smitty found himself chasing after John in a desire to keep their fire lit. John’s forehead rested onto Smitty’s “Love.”
His breaths were rapid as he attempted to recover from their endearment, heat trailed throughout his body as John’s words sunk in. “I-”
“Well well well what do we ‘ave ‘ere?”
Both individuals jumped at the new voice and turned in the direction it came from. There above the rocks stood a middle-aged man holding a large net. Just his presence sent shivers throughout Smitty’s body he grasped onto John for safety ready to escape into the ocean.
“I guess I got lucky today Ah've managed to find a real siren.” As Smitty pulled John towards the ocean the man jumped from where he stood and ran straight towards John punching him right under his jaw. The impact was so callous John fell to the ground unconscious before Smitty could reach John the older man punched Smitty on the side of his head. Knocking him to the ground as well and as he faded in and out of consciousness he tried to cry out for John, but couldn’t find his voice due to the impact. The man threw him into the large net even with Smitty fighting with every possible fiber in his body. It was no use though the man began to drag the net away from John and the ocean. With the little strength, Smitty had he wiped away the tears that streamed down his eyes, panicking as the man had pulled them away from what he loved most and what he needed most.
“Man the festival never gets old.” Nogla cheerfully exclaimed as Craig followed in behind him and Lui. Both proceed into the back area of Panda’s brewery before Lui came out with a glass and bottle for him.
“How’d you like the festival Mini?” Craig shrugged as he opened the bottle and filled his glass to the brim. “It’s like every year, but I like it.”
“Like how you like Tyler.” Lui casually said, and as blunt as his comment was it spoke the truth about Craig’s emotions. He attempted to form a sentence unable to due to his flustered behavior. He hardly noticed that someone had entered the brewery, or that he’d almost knocked his glass off the table, or that certain someone who sat next to him was Tyler and he had caught the glass before it split any of its contents.
“I do not like him!”
“Who?” Craig froze up at the voice he knew exactly who that voice belonged to. He only prayed he hadn’t heard Lui’s statement.
“N-No one!” Craig shoot up grabbing the glass from Tyler’s hands and drinking half of it without stopping. He placed his glass back on to the wooden bar, adjusting his glasses before turning back to Tyler who had a puzzled yet relaxed look. Craig smiled back at him hoping he hid his pink tint well enough for Tyler to not notice.
Can he get any hotter?
“Oh hey, Tyler how was your night?” Nogla walked out from the back with a bottle of whiskey and three shot glasses.
“Great, Watching you two dance around the town square. You don’t know how to dance, do you?" Tyler’s laugh echoed through the empty brewery. Eventually dying down as he grabbed the drank the shot.
“Like you’re any better?” Lui shouted from the back area. Nogla chuckled as he remembered the night’s events. What an evening they had enjoyed.
“I think I did pretty good.”
“Well, why don’t you ask your partner?” Tyler turned towards Craig awaiting his response. The younger male shot Lui a glare before speaking up.
“You were fantastic.” Craig could have sworn Tyler's face glowed red, but it could have been his eyes playing tricks on him.
“See?” Tyler drank another shot.
“No, but my night was pretty great. I even got this chick’s number. Might give her a call later.” Those words shattered Mini’s heart. He didn’t want to hear the rest of the conversation. He wanted to leave, but he couldn’t move. He felt Lui and Noglas’ eyes on him maybe even Tyler noticed how he tensed up at his sentence. As Tyler continued to talk to Nogla about this person Lui talked to Craig in a low tone trying to avoid drawing Tyler’s attention.
“You ok?” Craig nodded. How could he not? Sure he was happy Tyler had found someone, but why did it hurt so much?
“If it hurts this much then you should tell him Mini.”
“It’s better this way. I couldn’t do that to him. Not to Kelly.” Lui’s eyes saddened as he spoke of her. They both looked at Tyler as he laughed with Nogla about the evening’s events. Either noticing Craig’s disappearance from the bar or that he’d left the brewery.
If I told him the only thing I’d feel is guilt.
Craig walked towards the docks and onto the beach. He breathed in trying to forget what Tyler had said, placing his focus on their evening together. Dancing and enjoying the festival together, how happy it made him feel, but that was just a memory in the distance. After all, how could Tyler love someone like him? He’d been avoiding the truth for so long it felt he’s been lying to him.
He shook his head to retreat the thoughts back into his mind. He slowly entered the shallow water and dove into the ocean. Exchanging his legs for an apricot-colored tail shining brightly through the sea as he swam past the coral and rocks sitting peacefully on the sand. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something else that shone in the sea. With curiosity on his mind rather than caution, he drifted closer to the object. Slowly he picked it up and inspected the metal, then all of a sudden a net buried in the sand swallowed him. In a panic he dropped the hook only for it to be jerked by the captor, causing it to sink into Craig’s appendage. He let out a cry calling out to anyone or anything that was out there.
But no one came.
His captor pulled harder and harder as Craig struggled against him, but with the hook creating more and more agony. It made his attempts weaker and weaker. Eventually, the one who caught him pulled him up onto a boat. They hoisted him onto the boat making his pain even more gruesome. After successfully throwing him on the boat his head banged the bottom of the boat causing his captor to let out a heavy laugh.
“What a catch!” Craig couldn’t even look at his subduer as he fell into an unconscious state. The boat rowed onto the shore, and the man dragged prize right into the forest
~Ciara xo
Y/N L/N. The only word he could think of to describe her was perfect.
For as long as he could remember she was in his life, holding his hand lightly in her much smaller one, her head resting on his shoulder. The image of them in that position in so many of his memories as he flashes through them, giving him a feeling that he's become so familiar with. It sent goosebumps down his arm, makes his stomach do flips, his mouth to go dry. He's felt this way for so many years, but never realized what it was until that day a few years ago, the day his dad died. Once again, an image of their stance appeared as the flashback played in his head. He could almost feel the light misty breeze of the Prince Edward Island beach near their small town, Avonlea.
"Gil?" her voice was so soft he hadn't even heard her, his own thoughts clouding his senses, his eyes caught on something in the distance, but he didn't know what. The light squeeze of her hand in his brought him back to her. As he looked at her, resting her head on his shoulder, he saw her E/C eyes already watching his own hazel ones. Her other hand came up and lightly caressed his face, fingers so cold from the dead winter.
"I'm sorry," he said, trying to hold back tears, leaning lightly into her hand. She sighed sadly and shook her head, taking her head off his shoulder and her hand of his face, grabbing his other hand as she stood in front of him. She gave him a light smile, and he could tell she was holding in her own tears.
"No, no. Don't be sorry, Gilly. It's ok," she whispered. "I was just saying that if we stay out for any longer we might get frostbite. Besides, dinner should be ready soon, and we ought not to be late." She looked into his eyes, but it seemed as if he looked right through her. He looked back out to the ocean, seeing the sun hit the horizon.
"Can we stay, just a little bit longer? Watch the sunset?" He asked, looking back at her. He looked so desperate, she couldn't say no to him. She smiled and nodded, wiping a stray tear that fell down his cheek. He pulled her closer, into a tight hug as she lay her head on his chest and they watched the sky turn many pastel colours until it went almost black. They didn't know how long they stayed like that, watching the sky, listening to the crashing waves. Once the sun had disappeared from sight, the pair started to walk home in the darkness. They reached the part in our path where they parted. Gilbert begrudgingly took his hand from hers, saying goodbye and beginning to walk away.
"Gilbert Blythe! Where do you think you're going?" She called after him, an honest confusion in her voice. Gilbert seemed just as confused as her.
"Um.. home?" he replied. Looking back at the path behind him that lead to his farm. To be honest, he didn't want to go back there, he didn't know if he could. After all, that's where Y/N found him. After the funeral, he hadn't come back to the house, which worried her, so she went looking after him.
"You know I will not let you stay by yourself, especially after.. everything that.. happened today. We'd be more than happy than to have you over for tonight Gilbert. For the next few nights even." She said walking over to him and grabbing his hand in hers again, dragging her down the opposite path that leads to her house. "Besides, I need my knight in shining armour to protect me from the horrifying darkness of night." She giggled and looked back at him, eyebrows raised. He smiled a genuine smile, the first one in weeks, giving into her and letting her drag him along. She took his hand and swiftly put it around her shoulder, so his arm wrapped around her.
The knight in shining armour was a reference to when they were children. She would play the beautiful damsel in distress, waiting for her handsome prince to come and save her. And, to no one's surprise, that was Gilbert. Sometimes, she would get bored of always being the one in trouble and make Gilbert the princess stuck in a tower, wearing one of her dresses as she stole one of his sweaters and galloped along on the broomstick-horse, coming to the rescue. The memories, still so fresh in his mind even if so long ago, made him chuckle.
"Oh my goodness, Y/N L/N! Where have you been, young lady?! I've been worried sick! You missed dinner, so it must all be cold. You've missed all of your chores, so you'll be doing extra tomorrow, the second the sun rises!" Y/N's mother ranted as she put her dish towel that was hung over her shoulder on the sink. She came over and slowed once she saw the young boy beside her, still holding her daughter's hand. "Oh, Gilbert. Hello sweetie, how are you doing? I wasn't expected company, sorry the house is an absolute mess. Come in, come in, before your ears fall off! I'll put on the kettle." She smiled and rushed back to the kitchen.
Y/N and Gilbert, shaking intensely as they sat by the fireplace for warmth, sipping the scorching hot and slightly burnt tea made by Mrs. L/N, a giant fluffy blanket coated the two. Mr. L/N, Y/N's father, gave him a pair of his pyjamas to sleep in for the night as Y/N's parents sent them up to bed, giving Gilbert the guest bedroom across the hall from Y/N's bedroom. As they crept up the stairs, careful not to wake up any of her other many siblings, she took his hand and dragged him into her bedroom.
"Y/N!" Gilbert whisper-shouted at her. "What are you doing? I'm not supposed to be in here! A man should never be in a young lady's bedroom, especially at night. What will you're parents think? I'm not-"
"Gilbert be quiet! Before they hear us!" Y/N giggled, covering his mouth to stop his ranting. "There's nothing wrong with you being in my room, you've been in here before."
"Yeah, when we were younger, much younger. Now it would be frowned upon." He started up again. She rolled her eyes, setting a few blankets on the floor and one of the pillows from her bed, pointing Gilbert to it as she climbed into her own, obviously old and almost at breaking point bed.
"You're sleeping here. I'm not leaving you alone." She said, her voice going deep, serious. Something that wasn't usual for the smiley girl. "Gilbert Blythe, I sure hope you know that I swear upon my life that I will never leave you. And we will always be together, forever. I swear it until my dying day."
The feeling, that one mentioned from before, had become so intense at that moment he surely thought he must've become sick. She leaned down from her bed and placed a light kiss on his cheek, before placing her nicest duvet (which wasn't that nice, but he wouldn't complain) over his still shivering body, but this time he was shivering over something else other than the cold.
When Gilbert was young and asked his father what it was his mom was like, he would tell the boy about how she made him feel, whenever he saw her, held her, the undeniable feeling of love. He never quite understood the concept of butterflies, for how could such creatures even make their way into your stomach and still flutter around? But at that moment, in her bedroom as the warmth of her lips still lingered on his pale pink cheek, he understood everything.
He was so deeply in love with her, it almost pained him. But it did especially at this moment, almost 4 years after that night, and he still hasn't said anything. Which he thought to lead him to this moment, he should have expected it.
He was now at the age of 19 years, studying at the lovely Queen's Academy to chase his dream of becoming a doctor. Y/N was just about 17 and had been, much to her and his delight, also been accepted into the academy to study to be a nurse. That, of course, wasn't the part that had hurt, but the sight right before his eyes, an unknown man with his arm around her shoulders, like he had when they walked down that path, looking at each other, giggling at something, he couldn't tell what.
He felt honestly betrayed. She had never been exactly his, but he still felt as if she had left him, forgot about him and their promise. But mostly he felt angry. Not at her, he could never be angry at her even he tried (he knew from many personal experiences), but from that stranger that had taken his girl away from him. He took his book and checked it out, trying to avoid their eyes, but of course, to his luck, that was no use. He heard her call out his name before he slammed the door shut of the recently quiet building.
"Can we pause our session just for one second? He's my best friend." She smiled sweetly, taking his arm off her shoulders and looking back at the door he had just left out of. He nodded, sharing his own smile. "Ok if I'm not back in ten minutes you can leave! Thank you again so much for the help!" She called behind her shoulder as she ran out the door, tripping slightly every once in a while on her heels. She saw Gilbert's unmistakable mop of curly black hair walking just ahead of her, so she jogged to catch up with him. She tapped his shoulder, smiling a great smile as she linked her arm with his.
"Hey, Gilly! I didn't think you heard me in the library just then." She said, trying to get his attention, which was still focused on the path in front of him. "Gilbert, what's wrong? You've been acting so... distant lately," she sighed, pulling him to the side, to get out of the stream of walking people. He turned and looked at her, instantly feeling bad by the look of desperation on her face. He smiled at her and placed a strand of hair behind her ear gently, making her blush a little bit. Thankfully the red of her cheeks could be blamed on the cold winter.
"There's nothing wrong, Y/N. I'm fine," he said softly, trying to continue walking, but she wasn't having it. She grabbed his arm and brought him to a nearby bench, forcing him to sit.
"Gilbert Blythe! I know that isn't true, you know I can see right through you," she said grabbing his hands. "Please tell me what's wrong, I'll do whatever I can to help, I swear it." That look alone that she gave him almost made him cave right then. Almost. He knew he couldn't risk all those years of friendship over some silly crush. A crush that just won't leave him alone. He took his hands away from hers and got up.
"Sorry Y/N, but this isn't a problem you can solve," Gilbert said, turning his back to her, knowing the look of hurt that would be on her face about now. "I just need some time alone, away from you. Goodbye." It took everything in him to walk away from her and not turn back.
The next few days, Gilbert did everything he could to ignore the girl he cared so much for. He knew that she'd do anything she could to find out what was burdening him, and he knew he couldn't say it was her. It had been a few weeks since he last saw her, and it was an understatement to say he missed her.
He had seen her more and more at the library with that man. He couldn't help but feel as if he was being replaced every time he heard her beautiful laugh pass her lips, because of him. He tried to avoid the general area, but it was like he was drawn back each time.
Little did he know that Y/N was in just as much pain as he was.
The past couple of weeks without him had been much too bland. She would only leave her small shared apartment when she went to her study sessions with John, in the library. And even though he was nice enough and made her laugh, he wasn't Gilbert Blythe.
She had tried aimlessly walking around the Queens Academy campus, in hopes of finding him, maybe sitting on a bench, reading a book. But she had no such luck. After all, it was a very big school, with many people. Many more than in Avonlea.
But she was truly hurt that he had, as it seemed, completely blocked her out. She still had no idea what she had done to cause anything upon him. And the idea of causing such a pain unto someone she loved so much had burdened her very much.
She was out on one of her walks again, it was getting cold outside, small snowflakes fell quietly from the sky, landing in her hair and on her face. She felt as if she was going to catch her death at any moment.
John had caught a cold and wasn't able to make their study session, so Y/N was off to the library by herself. She was a bit nervous, walking by herself in a campus ruled by men, some of which with bad intentions on a pretty girl like her. Her eyes constantly scanning her surroundings.
Thankfully she had safely made it to the library, with no trouble, but some unwanted lingering stares, but she had expected it.
"Why, good afternoon Y/N, " the old librarian, Mrs. Dell said kindly. Y/N smiled and nodded politely, giving her a nice hello as well, before heading off to the books.
Gilbert froze up immediately when he heard the name pass the old lady's lips. He heard her dainty footsteps walking slowly towards him. He wanted to run but it was as if his feet were planted to the ground, since he knew that he did want an excuse of seeing her again, even for a second. His back was to her, and he had hoped that that would be enough for her to dismiss him.
Of course, he didn't have such luck.
"Gilbert?" Y/N's voice was quiet and unsure, but the raven black curls were hard to miss, especially to someone who has become so familiar with it. Gilbert didn't change his stance, so Y/N walked forward and grabbed his shoulder, making sure that this time he wouldn't escape. "Gilly, please, can we talk?"
He didn't look back at her, it took everything in him to keep his gaze ahead. He could hear her sigh and feel her hand travel from his shoulder down his arm to his hand as she pulled him out of the library. He was shocked but didn't bother fighting it. She nodded at the librarian as she headed out, Gilbert being dragged not too far behind, earning a strange look from the kind old lady.
Y/N pulled him closer to her side, constantly checking her path and using him as a human shield from the lingering stares. Gilbert realized the odd behaviour, and also looked around, wondering why she was being so cautious. Probably because she doesn't want her new boyfriend to see us together, he thought to himself but didn't dare speak it aloud.
"You know, even if you refuse to talk to me, I just wanna say that I am thankful I found you. I was starting to think you left. My, that would've been torturous. You're my only friend here," she says quietly, squeezing his hand. He looks down at her, seeing that she was already looking at him. Their footsteps slowed to a stop as they looked at each other, both trying to hold in tears.
"Surely that's not true. I've seen you around with other... people," Gilbert states blandly, breaking eye contact and looking over her head instead. She laughed.
"Well, maybe the only other person would be John but-"
"Yes, John," Gilbert interrupted her, looking back at her. "I thought you two seemed quite close. That's splendid." The last part of his sentence wreaked of sarcasm, telling her that something was up, and she thought she knew what.
"John is my study partner, Gilbert. We were paired up together since my professor thinks I can't handle my own work due to my.. well, gender." She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, thinking of her nuisance of a teacher, who was too much like her old one in Avonlea, Mr. Phillips. "Besides, why are you getting so worked up? I've seen you with many other people and I've said nothing." Gilbert exhaled and pushed a hand through his messy curls.
"Because it's different, okay? I don't like seeing other guys like that around you. I don't want them to take you from me." He stated, not being able to look at her, his cheeks starting to burn up from the confession.
"Take me from you?" Y/N asked, slightly offended. "Might I remind you, Gilbert, I am not an object that you own. I am-" Y/N started to rant but was once again cut short.
"No, Y/N. Not like that." Gilbert said, taking her cheek in his hand. "I don't want them taking you away from me when I haven't even gotten the chance to make you mine." He couldn't believe what he had just said, and as it seemed, neither could Y/N. Her mouth went open, trying to think of a response, but nothing that could truly express her emotions came to mind. So of course, she didn't have to say anything and just kissed him.
She kissed him hard, everything breaking loose from their chains. And sure enough, he kissed back. They didn't care that they were in the middle of the campus, probably many nearby people watching in on the affair. Nothing could break the moment they had waited so long, too long, for. The butterflies from Gilbert's father's stories seemed to have tripled on their effect, as well as so many other things, as their lips moved in sync, slightly chapped from the cold. They broke apart for air, not moving too far apart from each other, placing his forehead on hers as she giggled, sounding like a wind chime.
"You were always mine, Gilbert Blythe. And I will always be yours," she whispered to him, looking him straight in the eye as her contagious smile grew a little bit wider. He smiled back, so big until it started to hurt his cheeks, and grabbed both her hands, pulling her in again and placing another kiss on her lips, guiding her hands around his neck, then placing his gently on her waist. "Until my dying day, I swear we will always be together."
And suddenly, John didn't seem that important anymore.
The Last Pairing Tag Game, Answered by Draco Malfoy
Tagged by @violetclarity  (Hi Violet!!)
RULES: You must answer the questions below about the last ship that you read/wrote about, regardless of whether or not you like this ship, then tag anyone you want.
Pairing is Drarry. I’ve decided to deviate a bit and answer the Qs in Draco’s POV. It’s much more fun that way. :)
1. What domestic thing are they most guilty of?
I’m sure you know this, but I, Draco Malfoy, am guilty of many things. What Harry and I do in the domestic setting are not in the list.
2. Who is enabler in the relationship? (eg: “I shouldn’t eat the cake.” “Eat the damn cake. You know you wanna.” “Damn, you’re right.”)
Harry is a Gryffindor. He doesn’t need enabling.
As for me, Harry tends to let me make my own choices these days. I wouldn’t be with him if he doesn’t, even if he has the best intentions in the world. I know myself. I don’t have the spine to resist an enabler in my life. I need someone who lets me, who makes me stand by my own choices.
But I can think of one time when I let myself be enabled. For years after the war, I’d see-sawed between the guilt of cutting ties with Pansy, Greg and Blaise, and the pain of missing their friendship. Harry nudged me to go look for them. They’re my history, he said, they’re a part of me.
That weekend, we had afternoon tea at his Aunt Petunia’s.
3. What is their song?
I spent some time thinking about this one.  Harry is a Muggle oldies person, while I prefer wizarding opera.
But there’s one song I can tell you about. We’re shopping for Rose’s 1st birthday, and we came across this music box in Muggle London. I was fascinated by how it worked, how a melody was created from a coil of tiny picks. We were about to make the purchase when Harry suggested checking the lyrics first, just to make sure it’s appropriate.
He tapped on his mobile, and inserted an earbud in my ear. The name of the song was Que Será, Será, he said. We stood there, the Christmas shopping crowd bustling around us, as we listened to this child who asked her teacher what to do in school. Should she paint? Should she sing? And the teacher answered Que Será, Será. The future was not for anyone to see.
Harry put down the music box then. He had his fingers on the stop button, but I stopped him. I wanted to know what happened next. The rest of the evening we spent wandering under the lights in Trafalgar Square, the song on loop in our ears. I didn’t ask for Harry’s thoughts. He didn’t ask for mine. We just walked in silence, but from how tightly he was holding my hand, I knew his thoughts couldn’t be far from my own.
We let the song dissipate as we passed the magic-muggle threshold. We’ve never listened to it again, but that night, I asked Harry if we would see rainbows, day after day.
He answered, simply, with a yes.
4. In a battle, would they fight back-to-back, or sporadically, watching out for each other?
Battles. You’re asking me about battles.
I don’t want to answer this. I want no more battles to fight in our lives but if there are, we’ll be fighting them side by side.
5. In death fics, which person is the one that usually dies/you choose to kill off?
Stories about death. Oh, this questionnaire is going for the morbid, doesn’t it.
I’d say Harry. Everyone dies, so what really matters is which death is worth a commemorative story, be it a hero’s fable or a cautionary tale. I’ve ruined my story arc by chasing Harry and his Light.
6. What would a reverse verse look like?
All right. The questionnaire is going for the incomprehensible as well as the morbid.
7. If you had to put them into any other fandom of yours, which would it be and how would it work out for them?
See answer for number 6. A more cryptic response would be Que Será, Será.
8. Are they the “touchy-feely” couple or the “witty, sometimes insulting banter” couple?
Whatever “touchy-feely” is, we’re not. Because a word like “touchy-feely” shall have no presence anywhere near my name.
If you’re asking whether we touch and feel each other often, the answer is yes and I shall spare you the details (or: see number 10). As for “witty, sometimes insulting banter”: I don’t do insults. I merely say the truth as is. I can’t help if you find me witty, or the Truth, a tease.
9. Would they want marriage? Kids? Or are they more comfortable without those things?
I hope we want marriage, since we’re married.
As for children, have you seen how Harry fawns over the Weasley spawns? If he makes one more of those goooooo~~~~ voices, I’ll Silencio him, or better yet, record it and Sonorus it during his Ministry press conferences.
It makes me worry though, that he’ll be too lenient and idealistic of a dad, and I, too strict and cynical of a father.
10. What are most of their dates like?
Now I suspect a Rita Skeeter type is behind this. Where and how we have our dates now is a  private matter, but I can share a few details about our first dates. Worry not, they’re every bit as salacious enough to welt your appetite.
I got re-acquainted with Harry at Gringotts, as his financial advisor. You’d think a reputation like mine would make me unemployable, but no, the investment banking department practically fell on their knees when I agreed to join them. A well-connected and old surname is nice on the résumé for this job. A morally grey one? Infinitely better.
But I digress. You know those carts that take the customers to the vaults? One time Harry and I were in one of those, and Harry said, back when he was eleven, the sheer scale of his to-be new world hadn’t hit him until Hagrid brought him to this same maze, in the same small cart. I showed him another new world then. I abandoned the driver’s seat, straddled and kissed him, while the cart maintained its dash at full speed. That was our first kiss.
We had many more dates in the underworld of Gringotts since then. Let’s just say… the sharp turns, the steep slope and rickety tracks, the bumpiness that got more pronounced as the air got hotter and darker and damper… make things far more interesting when you’re riding not only a cart.
11. Do they have a secret language? Inside jokes?
Now we have one, since you’re so kind to ask about it.
12. What do their morning routines look like? Are they harmonious? Do they fight each other for space? Do they help each other get ready?
Define “help each other get ready”. We do practice a version of it before taking each other’s “space”, and not only in the mornings. Fighting is a bit strong for a description—we’re polite and we take our turns. Harmonious? Sure. It only gets us late for work.
13. Assuming that some family members are alive (related or no), how did each family react to the couple?
Find a deck of playing cards. Accio the Queen of Clubs. Accio the King of Diamonds. Accio the joker. There, you’ve got the reactions of my mother, my father, and that demented peacock in the garden respectively.
As for Harry’s family, his Aunt Petunia’s was by far the most memorable. Harry introduced me as his friend and his aunt couldn’t stop fawning over me, imitating my accent and asking me about my banker job, praising the cut of my designer suit and oh, she couldn’t believe I shopped on Savile Row! Did I introduce Harry, her nephew to anyone there? Was I privately schooled? Eton, maybe?
Then, half way through the tea, Harry calmly leaned over and gave me a kiss. With tongue. Right there between the aunt and her bone china teapot. There was a gasp and the crash of the sugar bowl. I wasn’t privy to exactly what had happened. It would be the most unbecoming of me to not return that tongue in kind.
That was the best tea I’ve ever had.
14. What is your favorite AU for them?
AU? You mean gold? Alchemy?  Our favorite potion is polyjuice--no, two polyjuices--one with Harry’s hair and one with mine, right before bed.
If you can’t figure out why, then you don’t deserve to know about it.
15. Finally, what trope works better for the couple as they are in canon? (If they’ve never met, which one do you think would work best if they know each other?)
I take it that my darling husband has finally and officially made it to Saint Potter to have a canon about him. I’d like to have a copy, if you please, so I can recite it over the Burrow brunches. That’s my way of showing my utter, most sincere and loving support for my spouse, and I’m certain every Weasley war hero in attendance, especially Weasley G., will regard this move with the highest and most heartfelt approval and will, in fact, provide the most thunderous back vocals while I incorporate a hymn or dramatic reading or two…
Probably everyone else has done this already? I tag @carpemermaidtales, @bounding-heart, @kedavranox, @blamebrampton, @callingdrarry and everyone who’s interested in doing this!
Annual Writing Self-Evaluation
*All answers should be about works published in 2017.
I’ve been tagged by @inrainbowz! Thanks for giving me an occasion to blab about my writing to the world :D
1. List of works published this year:
So, according to AO3 I wrote 224132 words in 2017. But tbh I’ve not been very productive, I only wrote a few chapters for two WIP (still unfinished) and a single one-shot. The rest is the exact same stuff, but translated into english. Take a look:
One Video Man (One Vidéo Man in french): This is a Youtube!AU fic for the One Punch Man fandom. I had this stupid idea about a AU where everyone is human, in our world, and every character runs a Youtube channel. That’s all. I just describe videos so the reader feels like they’re watching this on Youtube. I have no plan, no scenario, no nothing. But the thing is, I encourage my readers to post fake Youtube comments for the characters to answer, and to give me some ideas about what should happen next and what kind of video I should write. So yeah, it’s kind of a fun experience, and I like trying new stuff and interact with my readers (I did something a bit like this for a spn fic a few years ago). But I’m so slow at updating, my readers are dying with frustration lol.
Albion’s last bulwark (Le dernier rempart d’Albion in french): This is a BBC Merlin fic, and actually it is a sequel for my fic Le dernier souffle de Kilgharrah I have yet to translate into english. It can be read separately, though. It is a resurrection fic in Arthur’s point of view. He comes back to life in our world today and realize he’s lost his kingdom, his wife, everything, and Merlin looks like an old man and is obviously not so happy about his return. I wanted them to struggle to get their relation back. I wanted Arthur to feel lost and alone. This fic is filled with angst and is merthur. I still have about 5 chapters to write & translate to complete it.
A cheap spell (Un sort au rabais in french): I wrote this short Merthur OS just for funsies and I also made a drawing here. Basically Arthur went missing and everyone is worried sick (especially Merlin) and looking for him everywhere... but Arthur is right there under their noses, only turned into a toad and frustrated because no one recognizes him. Well it’s not much, but it was fun to write.
2. Work you are most proud of (and why):
Definitely Albion’s last bulwark (Le dernier rempart d’Albion in french). You have no idea. This fic is my precious, my everything. I’m pouring my whole soul in it. I could talk about it all day. This is the fic that made me want to get better in english just so I could translate it at some point.
Why? Because CloudFactory and I have been thinking about it for years before I even started writing it. I do all the writing, but we made out the story together, we thought every little detail through, and she’s my betareader both in french and in english. Because we worked hard to get the characterization right. Because I had been dying to read a resurrection fic in which Merlin has been deeply changed by centuries of living in a changing world, so I decided to write it myself. I wanted a Merlin who went through some rough stuff that had nothing to do with Arthur at all. I wanted a Merlin living like an hermit, but not because he’s waiting for Arthur to return, but for a totally different reason. Because I wanted Arthur to grieve for Camelot, for Gwen, for his past life. Because I wanted Arthur to return for a very serious reason, because Albion truly is in danger. Also, because dragons. In this fic, Merlin has a bunch of dragons, including a baby one, I love writing them.
So yeah, I’m so fucking proud of this fic and I will cry tears of pure joy once I complete it.
3. Work you are least proud of (and why):
Well I’m kinda proud of everything I wrote in 2017, but if I really have to pick one, I’d say A cheap spell (Un sort au rabais in french) because, well, I wrote it quickly and I felt the merthur was bit rushed and OOC. But that’s because I’m the kind of author who usually needs at least 10 chapters to bring some romance, so... Also, writing crack is fun, but I’m way better at writing angst.
4. A favorite excerpt of your writing: Okay so I’ll follow @inrainbowz‘s example and show one in french first, then one in english. But only for my fic Albion’s last bulwark (Le dernier rempart d’Albion in french), because yup, I’m really really proud of it.
Voilà un petit extrait en français, du dernier chapitre en date pour Le dernier rempart d’Albion :
- Et nous nous sommes rencontrés ?
Freya esquissa un pâle sourire qu’Arthur n’aurait su qualifier d’amusé ou triste.
 - Oui. Tu es celui qui m’as tuée.
Arthur eut une inspiration de surprise et ses yeux s’écarquillèrent.
- Quoi ?
 - Laisse-moi te rafraîchir la mémoire…
Lorsqu’une main creva la surface du lac, suivie d’un poignet gracile et d’un bras nu, Arthur se recula vivement et tomba assis, le souffle coupé. Le reflet de Freya soulevait la nappe d’eau et sa tête émergea à son tour, ses cheveux ruisselant sur son visage, ses épaules et sa poitrine à peine couvertes d’une robe en lambeaux. Le cœur battant à tout rompre, Arthur déglutit et s’efforça de rester calme et de ne pas dégainer Excalibur face à ce spectacle aussi terrifiant qu’époustouflant. Car ce corps qui avait surgi jusqu’à la taille et se penchait à présent sur lui la main tendue, il était translucide, uniquement composé d’eau.
And now another one, in english this time:
Merlin steadied his stance and turned a dark and hateful glare at Arthur. His cheeks seemed hollower and his cheekbones sharper now that he had turned back to his young self. The look on his face was frightening, full of rage.
"Merlin, pull yourself back together!" Arthur ordered, striding right to him. "Don't make me knock you out!"
There was a heavy aura surrounding Merlin when he raised an open hand toward Arthur.
Everything happened very fast. The shock wave that hit him threw him back with a staggering blow, tearing his feet away from the ground. He crashed into the glass doors, smashing them to pieces, and pain flared in his back. He might have lost consciousness for a few seconds. When he opened his eyes again, he was lying on the concrete strewn with sharp glass fragments and the wounds on his back had reopened, soaking his t-shirt with blood.
He cut his palms on the shards trying to get up, but he clenched his teeth and ignored the pain. There would be plenty of time to worry later about how dizzy he felt and his vision starting to blur. For now, the urgency was Merlin.
5. Share or describe a favorite comment you received:
Okay so I had never once received a comment on AO3 for my fic Le dernier rempart d’Albion because well, french readers are pretty rare on this website and most of them prefer to read in english anyway. And when I started translating it into english, I got a very enthusiastic comment of someone who loved it. And she wanted to know what happened next so bad, she couldn’t wait for me to translate, so she went and read the next chapters in french, even though her french was rusty and she couldn’t understand everything. I had never been so happy reading a comment. That someone enjoyed the story so much they made the effort to read it in french... Yeah, this made my whole year :D And she still reads both the french version and english translation, waiting for each new chapter. Best reader ever. I love her. <3
6. A time when writing was really, really hard:
From august to december, biggest writing block ever. I had no motivation, no inspiration, no energy and I think it had to do with work and real life being crazy, but also because CloudFactory was very busy, so I had no cheerleader to force me to write lol.
7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
Probably ever character in One Video Man? I control nothing in this fic, I just get carried away by my readers’ ideas and the inspiration of the moment.
8. How did you grow as a writer this year:
I think I started to understand that I should not be so hard on myself. I’m a perfectionist, so sometimes it blocks my writing when I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself to get it perfect on the first draft. I think I made a lot of progress in descriptions too.
9. How do you hope to grow next year:
I hope I’ll be able to write faster and to stop procrastinating. I need to use less adjectives too.
10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):
CloudFactory ( @less-life-and-more-dream ) and Jackallh ( @geek-trough-time-and-space ) are the best. I just have to chat with them about my fics, and yay! Ideas! Inspiration! Motivation! Also tumblr and the Merlin fandom inspire me every day new ideas :p
11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:
When Merlin brings Arthur in London, I used some real life experience, since I’ve been in London for my 30 years birthday with @less-life-and-more-dream, @geek-trough-time-and-space and @dupond-and-dupont. The fish n’ chips I described in the fic, also Hyde’s park and its geese, all came from my happy memories :D
12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
Don’t thrive for perfection. Just do your best, and even if you hate it, you can still edit later. You WILL get better by writing, it’s a slow process, but for this to happen you have to write.
13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:
First, I have to complete Albion’s last bulwark and One Video Man, both in french and english. Also in a few months I’ll post my translation in english for Albion’s last bulwark’s prequel: Le dernier souffle de Kilgharrah. Then, I plan to write a prequel to Le dernier souffle de Kilgharrah, about the days, months and years just after Arthur died. The whole story will be a trilogy in the end! :D
I consider taking back one of my old abandoned WIP too (I have a Supernatural fic and a Whitechapel ITV fic uncompleted), but I’m not sure I’ll have the time for it. I have AT LEAST three other Merlin fanfics I really reaaaaaally want to write.
14. Tag five writers/artists whose answers you’d like to read.
@creepywonderland-pony @dupond-and-dupont @andersandrew @istadris @always-keep-writing and whoever wants to do this!
Fandom: Fear the Walking Dead Part: One  Two Three Four Five Word Count: 3,292 Characters: Reader x Troy Otto, Reader Gender: Female Warnings: Extremely mild violence, like a slap... thats about it. Author note: Sorry it took so long, I hope you enjoy it however. As always feedback is greatly appreciated!
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
A sudden gasp left your lips as you sat up, his name leaving your lips as you hugged your blankets in the darkness. Beads of sweat slowly trickled down the back of your neck, you hated it. The dream left you feeling rather shaky, fears coming to the front of your mind. Glancing toward Nick’s bed and then Alicia’s, to check to make sure you’d not woken either of them up. If it had however been you and Alicia in this room, you’d have gone to her, but unfortunately that wasn’t going to happen. Lying back down, you stared up at the bunk bed above you and sighed. Closing your eyes once again you attempted to calm yourself and settle back down to sleep.
The nightmares continued through the night, it seemed every time you close your eyes you would see the dead coming toward you and two paths one with Troy and one with Nick and the rest of the Clarks. Each time you picked a way to go, you never made it, you never got to who you chose. They were upon you, the undead took you down and while you screamed for help, no one ever came to help you. Each time you reached out for one of a groups you found yourself shooting awake, no matter how many times you lay back and closed your eyes after clearing your mind, it was still there happening the same each time.
As morning came, you gave up and got up. A shower and change of clothes came before sitting outside the cabin waiting for the rest of them to rise. It was too late to watch the sunrise, but you were still able to watch the color strip from the sky and turn a beautiful bright blue. “Hey, what are you doing out here?” Looking over your shoulder, you grinned slightly. “Morning Alicia.” You said with a grin as she took a seat beside you. “How are you?” Watching her shrug said it all, she was struggling and you didn’t blame her. Travis dying in front of her and a helicopter crash must’ve been stressful.
Reaching over, you put your arm around her and hugged her tightly. Kissing her on the temple you smiled softly. “It’s going to be alright.” Before either of you could say anything further, the door opened and Madison and Nick appeared. “There is a meeting this morning before breakfast; we better head over there before we are late.” Getting up, you dusted down your behind and made your way with the rest of the family. You couldn’t help but wonder if Madison or Alicia had noticed the tension between you and Nick.
You still hadn’t spoken, especially after he held a gun up at Troy yesterday, it made you angry and you couldn’t forgive him for everything he’d done. Taking a seat next to Alicia, you watched the Otto family move to the front and listened as Jeremiah spoke about Charlie and about how this meeting was to remember her. Your eyes moved to Charlie’s mother as she spoke, you could feel your heart breaking for her. This was the second funeral you’d been to in a matter of months. Thomas’ was a little bit more beautiful than this one, but then with no body and no grave you could understand why this wasn’t like that other one.
As Madison stood up your eyes drifted to Troy for a moment, then down to your hands. You started to fiddle with the cuff of your plaid shirt; the thought of everyone who had died so far was painful. Your parents appeared in your mind once again, your chest ached and tears appeared in your eyes. Feeling a hand touch yours, you looked up at Alicia and gave her a weak smile. “Are you okay?” She mouthed, causing you to nod softly. It might’ve been a lie right now, but it was what you were sure Alicia needed to hear, she needed you to be strong for her right now and that was what you were going to do.
Getting up as it finished, you glanced at Troy thinking he was coming toward you but instead he moved past without so much as a look. Biting down on your lip, you couldn’t help but wonder if you’d done something. Making your way to get something to eat with Madison, and Alicia, your mind started to race. How could you of done something wrong? You were deep in thought until someone grabbed your attention, listening to the girl as she spoke about you and Alicia coming to bible study, you smiled weakly. “Thank you for the invite, but it’s really not my sort of thing.” You explained moving away and taking a seat to eat. Looking at the plate you let out a sigh, you weren’t hungry and you doubted you were going to be.
“You should eat, if you want to keep your strength up.” Looking up at the voice, you offered a polite smile. “I’ll be okay… you’re Jake right, Troy’s brother?” He gave you a smile and nodded. “Yeah I’m his big brother, you’re Y/N.” Biting the inside of your lip, you let out a sigh. “I’m sorry for your loss.” You’d heard from Alicia that he was close to Charlie, saying you were sorry for his loss seemed to be the right thing to do right now. “Thanks. I heard you and Troy are getting close.” You shrugged, your eyes travelling down to the eggs on your plate and pushing them around. “I guess.”
Without another word, Jake sat down and tucked into his food. “He’s not a saint my brother, but he’s been through a lot and he likes to push people. I’m not going to tell you to stop seeing him, he’s my brother and you know I do want him to be happy. But I am going to warn you that you’ll have your hands full.” Eating a piece of toast, you shrugged your shoulders. “Thanks Jake, but…” Jake nodded. “I know, it’s your relationship and all, but I have to look out for my brother, and more importantly the people of this ranch… including you.” Letting out what seemed to be the millionth sigh that morning, what was the actual motive behind this talk? Was he here because of Madison or Nick maybe? Or was this him actually being here for his brother? “I just… thanks for the warning Jake.”
Finishing your food, you return your things and made your way back into the cabin. Stopping dead, you heard voices inside, raising an eyebrow you leaned closer listening to Troy and Madison talking. “Everything that I do is in service of this place.” Pressing your ear against the door, you listened hoping not to push the door open. “Does your father believe that?” You moved away for a moment, swallowing hard not understanding what was going on between them. Leaning back over, you listened again. “You understand me. That’s why I picked you. But I didn’t pick Nick.” Madison was confusing, what was she up to exactly? “He comes with me. Package Deal. What about Y/N, did you pick her Troy?”
You found yourself swallowing hard as you listened to him. “Why were you separated? Why was he with strangers and not his family? He doesn’t deserve his place. I think you know it.” He didn’t answer about you. “He’ll earn it. What about Y/N? Did you pick her?” Maybe it was time to walk inside? You weren’t sure, did he actually pick you or were you here for no reason? “I chose her, I asked her to come here myself. Don’t start making it look as if there are problems, where there aren’t any.” Troy’s words caused you to swallow; did that mean he wanted you here then? “I asked after you jammed a spoon in my eye Madison, even with one I could see she was something special. Shame Nick can’t, really isn’t it?” Slowly you moved and pulled the door open, stepping inside and looking between the two of them. “What’s going on?”
“Troy was just leaving, weren’t you Troy.” Troy looked at Madison and then turned to walk away. “That was made this morning, Troy.” Watching him make the bed, you found yourself wondering once again if you’d done something wrong. He didn’t even look at you as he walked out and shut the door behind you, letting out a breath in frustration; you turned your head to look at Madison. “What was that about?” You weren’t sure if you were angry, or annoyed, or confused anymore. Things here were getting strange and with Troy ignoring you, Nick and you not talking, all you had left were Madison and Alicia.
“I want you to stay away from Troy Y/N; I know I’m not your mother. But I think it would be best.” Staring at her, you blinked as your eyebrows rose in confusion.  “What was that about Madison?” You asked once again. “I’m trying to get to know the Otto family, the more we know, the more of a chance we have against them.” Nodding slowly, you bit your lip a little as you contemplated what she said. “Surely then me getting close to Troy would help then?” Madison shook her head. “We don’t know what sets him off.” Madison spoke causing you to raise an eyebrow. “He doesn’t seem like that with me.” You responded. “He tried to kill Nick; he tried to kill Travis, and Luciana.”
The moment between the two of you was getting heated, the pair of you were getting frustrated and honestly this was the first time the pair of you had ever blown up against each other. Madison and Nick fighting, yeah that was normal, Alicia and Madison fighting, that was almost normal. But you and Madison, she wasn’t your mother; she wasn’t even a mother figure to you. She was just your best friend’s mother, nothing more. “No, that wasn’t by his hand, or his orders. That was his men, and not him.” You responded shaking your head. “He tried to kill Travis!” You pushed your hair out of your face, finding yourself getting frustrated. “Troy only did that to protect his men.” Before another word was spoken, Madison raised her hand and struck you across the face.
Moving your hand to touch your cheek, you looked up at her and shook your head. Turning you walked out quickly slamming the door behind you. “Y/N, hey.” Your cheek was throbbing; your eyes were staring to sting as you attempted to fight the tears forming in your eyes, you didn’t want to talk to anyone right now. “Y/N!” Feeling Troy’s hand grab your arm, you turned to look at him. “What do you want Troy?” You asked attempting not to snap at him. “What’s wrong?” Pulling your arm away you shook your head. “Nothing.” You utter, folding your arms across your chest to create some space between the two of you. “Y/N…” He said softly, his soft tone caught you off guard. Looking up at him, it was clear that you were surprised by his gentle tone.
Watching him as he took a step closer, you felt his fingers against your cheek. Your eyes closed for a moment as he touched you, letting out a sigh, your arms dropped letting him come closer. You looked up at him as he ran his fingers over the redness on your cheek, his palm touching you tenderly. “What happened?” You could feel your heart thumping, he was different somehow. You couldn’t understand why Madison was so against him. “It’s nothing.” You uttered, looking away from him. “Did Madison do this?” You nodded your head ever so slightly, his fingers brushing down your face to behind your head as he brought his lips closer to yours.
“I’m sorry.” His words seemed sincere, you weren’t sure just how sincere he was but he did sound it. “I have to get to work.” You whispered as his lips brushed against yours. “So? Can’t we have some fun first? Cheer you up?” Feeling him pulling you closer, you smiled a little wrapping your arms around him, but then shook your head as his lips brushed over your jaw. “I need to work Troy, I don’t want them thinking that I’m lazy or just not doing work because of you.” Troy let out a laugh, his hands moving down to your hips and pulling you flush against him. “Don’t be silly, come on. Let’s just have a little time together.” You shook your head; leaning in you pressed your lips against his and smiled. “I’m going to go and work; maybe we can do something later.”
Pulling yourself away, you glanced back at him with a small grin tugging at your lips as you made your way toward the fields. You’d signed up to do farming, you had no idea what exactly what you were doing but if you could help well you would help and you figured growing something would feel rather rewarding. Looking up as you walked through the ranch, you noticed Nick and Alicia up ahead and found yourself wanting to avoid them as much as possible right now, with everything that was going on. You were starting to feel like you were no longer part of the group; you were in some strange place between both of the groups. You didn’t feel welcome in one and you certainly didn’t feel wanted in the other.
What were you meant to do?
Deep in the dirt, it was everywhere. But you didn’t mind, you were taking part and that was what mattered most right now. “Hey, Y/N.” Looking up at Troy, you let out a slight laugh and shook your head. “What do you want Otto?” You questioned standing up and looking at him. “Are you trying to play hard to get?” He questioned as you dusted yourself off. “I don’t know, maybe I am. I mean after this morning where you totally ignored me, it feels rather justified.” You responded with a shrug. Troy let out a groan, before grabbing you by the hips and pulling you close.”I have to go on a boar hunt tonight, do you want to come… or maybe meet me after?”
You found yourself smiling as your arms wrapped around his neck. “Why are you inviting me?” Troy’s hands moved around to rest on your butt as he pulled you flush against his body. “Well, you said you wanted to contribute.” He shrugged his shoulders. Letting your arms drop and rest on his shoulders, you looked into his eyes and shrugged. “I don’t know, there was me thinking you wanted to spend some time with me.” You found yourself smirking softly as Troy leaned in and rested his head against yours. “Maybe I do, and well if you’re already with me I won’t have to worry about having to find you after.”
The invite was interesting; you’d never been on a hunt before. “Maybe.” You teased, your fingers running up and down his arm. “I’m just not so sure your intentions are the purest Mr. Otto.” There was a soft chuckle from Troy’s lips as he leaned in and kissed your jaw. “That’s alright then, because they really aren’t.” He uttered, his lips moving to capture yours. Your bodies pressed even closer than before as the kiss deepened and became more intense, his hands groping your ass as your fingers ran through his hair. A small whimper of pleasure left you as he pulled your lip between his teeth. “People want me to stay away from you.” He uttered his lips moving to nibble on your ear lobe. “Don’t.” You muttered as your arms wrapped around him. “I’m not going anywhere.”
You decided to go on the hunt, there was something about the way Troy asked you, and the way he’d told you so honestly that people wanted him to stay away from you that you realized that you didn’t want to be away from him. You finally started to feel as if you were finding your way in this place; it was refreshing to feel comfortable. Even if you and Troy didn’t know each other very well, it felt as if you were starting to settle already. There was more to Troy than meets the eye, but you knew that and it didn’t bother you too much. Wasn’t part of a relationship getting to know each other after all?
Moving through the evening with some of Troy’s men, you glanced around as you realized neither Nick nor Troy were anywhere to be seen. Moving away from group, you started to look for them, a worried expression appearing on your face as you searched for them. “Troy? Nick?” You called out, there was no response however. The sound of a gunshot echoing caused you to start to run, you found yourself fear the worst as you made your way in the direction of where the sound had come from.
Manic laughter filled the air as you got closer to the pair of them, your running slowed to a jog as you started to realize that it wasn’t just Nick laughing, it was Troy too. “We can be friends now.” You moved slowly over, your eyes looking between Troy and Nick. “What’s going on?” You asked as Troy pulled himself up and started to grab his papers. “Nothing.” Nick was the first to speak; you couldn’t help but look at Nick with a curious look on your face. You always thought you knew when he was lying, but you weren’t really sure. “We were just sorting our differences.” Troy explained stuffing his journal into his pocket and coming to reassure you. “We’re fine.” He reiterated his point, causing you to look up at him, then again over at Nick.
“I heard a gunshot, I got worried.” Troy shook his head. “Was an accident, it’s really nothing to worry about. Anyway, it sounds like the boys have found the boar, let’s go find them and head back home.” You nodded your head softly, glancing to Nick one final time. What had happened between these two, well you didn’t know. But you were now more curious than ever. Finding the group with the dead bore, you all started to head back to the ranch, your mind was going a mile a minute, what was it exactly that had gone on? You’d not even noticed that most of the people had already piled off of the truck a few moments after getting into the ranch. It wasn’t until a hand touched yours that you shot out of your daydream to look over at Troy.
“What’s going on inside that head right now?” He asked pushing a piece of hair out of your face. “I was just wondering what happened between you and Nick. We got into a fight over you the other day, and if he’s causing more hassle I’m going to have to talk to him.” Troy shook his head and moved to stroke your cheek. “No, it was nothing, he was going to shoot me, but he didn’t.” You suddenly found yourself looking worried. “I need to go and sort him out.” Troy sighed. “No, you don’t.” His arms grabbed hold of you and pulled you onto his lap. “Leave him to it, let’s just go and have some fun, alone for once.”
His words were tempting, you couldn’t help but find yourself very enticed by the request, looking down at the blue eyed beauty, you smiled softly and finally nodded. “Let’s go.”
Feedback is always appreciated.
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
No one knew, not even he had known. He had died before you could tell him before you could find the courage to tell him.
And now he was gone. Gone forever and there was nothing you could do to bring him back to you. To you both.
Snow was falling outside the rover you were sitting in and for a moment you caught yourself wondering. You had always imagined that one day you would've watched it for the first time standing in Roan’s arms. He would’ve said something, you would’ve chuckled and when you would’ve run out under the snowflakes he would’ve followed you, tackled you to the ground.
What was left of that dream now? A broken heart? An unborn child? Radioactive snow?
What if you couldn’t go back to the bunker in time? What if something happened? What if you couldn’t make it without him?
Suddenly you felt sick in the protective suit you were wearing. The air felt hot, way too hot, your breathing was ragged, and you were starting to sweat. Dark thoughts were forming in your mind when Bellamy crashed into a tree.
You hadn’t paid much attention to his and Clarke’s conversation while you sat in the back of the rover, but now you wished you had.
“What the heck?” you muttered, shaking your head.
Your hands were trembling because suddenly all they wanted to do was to remove your protective clothing.
Then something hit the door of the vehicle. For a second you thought of Roan. Maybe he had survived, maybe he was trying to get into the rover. But it wasn’t him and you knew it.
“Stay inside!”
But your ears didn’t grasp Bell’s scream. All they could hear was a string of “I love you” and “Please, don’t” and “I’ll come back alive. For you”.
He hadn’t.
And just like that, with his eyes in front of you, with his scent hugging you, you didn’t even notice the chaos outside.
Before you knew it, your hands had removed the protective helmet and your lungs inhaled fresh radioactive air. But in that moment it didn’t matter because Roan was right there, smiling at you.
You smiled back and hurried to remove the orange suit. Then, you slipped out of the rover, unnoticed. You tiptoe around the vehicle, careful not to be seen by your friends and the grounders attacking them, and you sped off towards the deep of the forest.
There was no coming back and you knew it. But the snow was beautiful, even if it was deadly, and in that moment it didn’t matter. There was no future there for you, for the baby, without Roan.
When you thought you were far enough, you stopped in your tracks, shivering, coughing blood. Blisters had already started to form on your skin where the snow had touched it.
“Y/N.” Echo’s voice made you turn abruptly and you almost lost balance. “What are you doing here? Where’s your suit?”
She was wearing an orange suit like you had before you took it off.
“In the rover,” you answered, coughing, and your red blood stained the white snow. In that moment you thanked your good star for not having black blood, for not being safe.
“Why did you take it off? Are you mad?” Echo was screaming now, but you couldn’t care less.
You started at her and used your hand to clean your mouth. Your whole body hurt like it was on fire and you had the urge to curl into a ball on the ground. “You know why I’m here.”
“Roan’s gone, but that does not mean you have to go too.”
You shook your head. “There’s no future for us, here, in that bunker, in Alie’s Batcave. There never has and never will.”
She wanted to bite back, to say something but turned around when she heard Bellamy scream her name. He was also screaming yours, but now it didn’t matter anymore.
She looked at you one last time.
“Go. Live. Live for me and Roan too,” you urged her, coughing again, and this time you let your body fall to the ground.
It was near, death. And now you weren’t scared of darkness anymore.
The Forest of Ash || Ch. 12
Fandom: Servamp Characters: Mahiru, Kuro, Licht, Hyde Pairings: KuroMahi (main), LawLicht (side)
Summary: To stop the never ending winter the gods created, Mahiru entered the Forest of Ash to steal fire and gift it to the humans. When he was caught, he thought that he would be put to death. But Kuro was far from the God of the Dead that he heard stories about. He decided to stay in the Forest of Ash with him. {KuroMahi//Greek Mythology AU}
They said their goodbyes to the couple the next morning and then it was time to leave. Mahiru had to admit that he wished they could’ve stayed a little longer for no other reason than to delay riding the chariot again. But he promised Misono that he would visit him during the Sun Festival. He had to question if Kuro could read his thoughts when he told Black Cat to transform into a lion. “Misono’s city is close enough so we don’t need to ride the chariot.”
“I hope that Misono won’t be angry that we’re a day late.” Mahiru stroked the lion’s mane before he pulled himself onto its back without any hesitation. It always astonished Kuro how comfortable Mahiru was with the creature when he witnessed how dangerous it was before. Mahiru held out his hand to Kuro to help him onto the lion. He placed his hand in his and climbed onto the lion behind him.
“Let’s go, Black Cat.” Mahiru commanded gently and the lion nodded. As it trotted forward, Kuro wrapped his arms around his waist. He relaxed against his chest in turn and said, “It was sweet of you to give them a gift before we left. Those oak and linden trees will help them survive through the winter. What did you talk with Lucy about while we were making dinner last night?”
You must love Mahiru deeply, her words echoed in his mind but Kuro knew he couldn’t tell him the truth. He buried his face into his shoulder and mumbled an answer. “Nothing much. I’m kinda tired so I’m going to sleep a little. I woke up earlier than usual. You okay with guiding Black Cat on your own?”
“I think I have him under control. I’ll go slow so you won’t fall off.” Mahiru told him confidently. His hold tightened around his waist and he closed his eyes. He felt his hand pat his head briefly. A part of Kuro knew that he would have to face the feelings he had for Mahiru and give them a name eventually. Until he was brave enough to do so, Kuro enjoyed the moment and having Mahiru in his arms.
Kuro began to drift off but he kept his arms securely around him. He was jostled awake some time later and he opened his eyes with a groan. He could hear cheerful music in the distance and lifted his face from his shoulder. The city was ahead of them and Kuro could see that it was in full swing. Mahiru was a little stiff in his arms so Kuro squeezed his hand.
“We’ll probably cause a panic if we ride through the city on a lion. We have to walk the rest of the way. Can’t deal.” He slid off the lion and then reached out to help Mahiru down as well. When they were on their feet again, Black Cat transformed into a kitten and jumped onto Kuro’s head. Mahiru petted the cat and then he brushed the fur from Kuro’s cloak before they walked towards the city.
“Do you want to enjoy the festival a little before we go to the castle and see Misono?” He asked.
“I’m fine with anything.” He shrugged. The festive atmosphere was almost overwhelming to Kuro and they had yet to enter the city. He could already hear the waves of laughter and smell the food. He had to admit that he was hungry because they left without eating. Once they entered the city, he said, “Maybe we can buy some sweet bread and find somewhere to eat.”
“Okay. It’s pretty packed here.” He said as they struggle to make their way through the crowd together. Mahiru looked back at him and saw that Kuro was struggling to keep his hood over his head as people bumped into him. He knew that he was uncomfortable with crowds as well and tried to think of a compromise.
“Come here, Kuro.” Mahiru led him to a bench and lightly urged him to sit. “Sit here while I go buy some food for us. I’ll come back right away.”
“Are you sure you’ll be alright by yourself?” He asked but deep down Kuro knew that he didn’t want Mahiru to leave him alone. It had been centuries since he returned to Earth and he needed someone he trusted by his side.
“I’ve been on Earth far longer than you so I can take care of myself. I doubt you want to fight your way through that crowd. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.” Mahiru squeezed his hands to reassure him. Black Cat climbed up his arm and onto his shoulder. He laughed when the cat licked his cheek. “And I have Black Cat here to protect me.”
“Be careful. You have a knack for getting yourself into trouble.” Kuro let him go and watched him disappear into the crowd. He leaned back against the bench and waited for Mahiru to return. While he didn’t like crowds, they were more manageable with Mahiru by his side. He tried to find anything to distract himself from the bustling avenue. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a bard retelling a story to a group of children.
“Every day, the Sun Titan drives the chariot of the sun across the sky. It’s because of him that we have day and night. The Sun Festival is to show our gratitude.” The bard told them. “Before the Sun Titan, a deity rode the chariot of the sun. The deity eventually grew bitter that no one appreciated her work. One day, she veered the chariot off course and set the world ablaze.”
Kuro didn’t know much about the day the sun fell from the ground because he was isolated in his forest at the time. He remembered the deaths that followed the tragedy though. The bard went on, “When the sun crashed into Earth, it burned the crops and melted the snow to create floods. That was the consequence for ignoring a god. The deity died and the Sun Titan has taken her place in the sky.”
“Kuro.” He turned to see Mahiru approach him. He had a large bag of bread in one arm and Kuro waited for him to sit next to him on the bench. Instead, Mahiru took his arm and tugged him out of his seat. “Do you mind if we walk and eat? I don’t really have an appetite while listening to those kinds of myths. The bard shouldn’t be telling those horrid stories to children.”
Mahiru shook his head at the bard but he didn’t have the energy to correct him about his story. He was grateful that Kuro readily walked down the street with him and didn’t question him.
“I’ll carry those for you.” Kuro took the large bag from him. He was worried about losing Mahiru in the crowd so he held onto his hand. They strolled down the street to the castle but it was a little difficult to shuffle through the crowd. “How much further to the castle? It’s kinda hard to eat when my hands are full. Why did you buy so much?”
“I wanted to get them as a gift for Misono so don’t eat all of them. Here, lets try this.” He hooked their arms together so they wouldn’t be separated but Kuro could also use one hand. He took one of the bread from the bag and ripped off a piece for Black Cat. Mahiru hummed when he ate the bread. “This is delicious but they used a little too much butter for my taste. I should try making some for us when we return home.”
Anyone that passed them and heard their conversation wouldn’t have guessed they were gods. It was almost like they were a normal couple. The thought made Mahiru’s heart skip for a moment. They walked down the street and stopped at some of the stalls. Mahiru examined some of the luxury items but his eyes would always fall onto something simple. “Maybe we should buy a cushion for your throne.”
Black Cat jumped off his shoulder and onto the table next to them. He pawed at the jewellry on display and Mahiru chuckled. He knelt in front of the table and played along with the cat by jingling a bell. Kuro watched them with a soft smile. Then Mahiru took the bell and tied it around Black Cat’s neck. “It really suits you. I’ll buy it for you.”
“You really spoil that cat. It must be why he likes you more than me now.” Kuro petted the cat.
“I got you one too. You had this smile while watching Black Cat play and I thought you might want a bell as well. I didn’t think you were the type for jewellry. Lean down a little.” Kuro doubted that he could tell Mahiru that he was smiling because he was watching him. So, he bowed enough for Mahiru to slip the bell over his head. He was careful not to knock off his hood as he did so.
Someone behind them bumped into Mahiru and accidentally shoved him forward. Kuro instinctively reached out to catch him before he could fall and Mahiru wrapped his arms around his neck. He heard gasps around them and Mahiru was confused until he realized that Kuro’s hood had fallen off. He tried to pull it back over his head but he knew that it was too late.
“Why is Sleepy Ash here?” The panic began and Mahiru did his best to calm the people. Black Cat sensed the people’s animosity and transformed into a lion to protect them. That only served to make the humans panic more and Mahiru held the lion back.
“Wait, you don’t have to be afraid of Sleepy Ash or Black Cat. Sleepy Ash is only here to enjoy the festival.” Mahiru tried to scream over the crowd. Some people were running while others looked prepared to fight. He stood in front of Kuro protectively. “He’s not violent and he won’t hurt anyone.”
“Can’t deal.” Kuro wrapped his cloak around Mahiru so he wouldn’t be hurt by the distrustful glares people threw at him.
He was about to teleport them to safety but he stopped when he heard a deafening explosion. He turned towards the sound but kept Mahiru safely in his arms. Mahiru pulled aside his cloak to see that the explosion was caused by fireworks. They were beautiful and drew everyone’s attention long enough for the chaos to stop. He was relieved to see Misono walking towards them.
The crowd parted and Mahiru noticed that Lily and another man was following Misono. He guessed that Lily was the one that made the fireworks. Misono had a regal air around him and his citizens quickly bowed to him. “What is this?”
“The God of the Dead is here!” One of the villagers told him in a panicked voice.
“He’s here because I invited him and his husband. Sleepy Ash spared my life when I went to the Forest of Ash. Since then, Mahiru and I have been friends and I expect everyone to treat them with respect. They’re my guests.” Misono ignored the gasps and whispers and walked to Mahiru. “Welcome to Iolcus. Sorry I wasn’t able to introduce you before this happened.”
“It’s okay. I’m sorry for the scene we caused.” Mahiru said. Soon they were talking like old friends and Kuro was relieved that the panic has subsided. While most still watched them with a mixture of distrust and curiosity, they returned to the festival.
The tall man behind Misono approached Kuro and he almost expected him to fight him. He bowed his head deeply to Kuro and then held out his hand when he stood. “My name is Tetsu. Thank you for letting Misono return to Earth. I owe you my life.”
“You should be thanking Mahiru. He’s the one that spoke up for Misono.” Kuro smiled towards his husband when he thought back to that day. It should’ve warned him long ago how troublesome Mahiru would be. “I guess I should thank you and Misono too. Mahiru has a friend he can write letters to.”
“C’mon Kuro, Misono’s taking us back to the castle for a feast. Don’t forget to bring the bag of bread!” Mahiru called and waved to him.
“Hurry up, Tetsu!” Misono called as well.
“Troublesome husbands.” Kuro shook his head and chuckled but followed them.
“You can put me down now.” Licht had told Hyde that several times already. Like those other times, he ignored him and continued through the garden. The worry on his face stopped Licht from fighting him. He didn’t have the strength to resist him either so he let Hyde carry him. He finally stopped in a flower patch and slowly lowered him onto the ground.
“The flowers here have healing properties. Sit still and let me look at your wings.” Hyde said and Licht rolled his eyes at how he fretted over him. He flicked his forehead, finally exasperated with Hyde’s behaviour. He had become accustomed to their banter and quips so it felt strange when he treated him like glass. While he knew his concern was genuine, Licht didn’t want to him to start treating him differently.
Licht turned his back to Hyde and spread his wings. “If you’re careless with my wings, I’ll kill you.”
“No one knows how delicate your wings are more than me.” He reminded him. He worked closely with Daedalus when he made the wings and he knew how fragile they were. As gently as he could, Hyde smoothed his hand over the feathers to check for wounds. Licht winced a little when he touched his injured wing and Hyde quickly drew his hand back.
“Just treat my wings. If it hurts, I’ll endure it. I want to fly again and I won’t let your half-hearted attitude ruin that,” He snapped at him and leaned backwards slightly. He looked over his shoulder and he was glad to see Hyde’s resolve return a little. Hyde washed the dirt from his wounds and wings but he made sure to dry them quickly so the feathers wouldn’t clot. Licht could sense that he was still a little hesitant and asked, “Why are you treating me so differently?”
“You almost died in that cave in because you refuse to think of your limits! If you’re not going to take care of yourself, I have to.” Hyde answered him in an aggregated voice. His hands tightened into fists when he thought of Licht laying motionless in his arms. He took a deep breath to calm himself and focused on his wings again. He controlled the nectar in the flowers around them and transformed it into wax for his wings. “This is going to burn a little.”
“Just get it over with.” He braced himself and waited for the pain. Behind him, Hyde straightened the feathers that had become loose and set them back into place with the wax. Each time, he would caress his wings to comfort him. Licht tried not to show any discomfort whenever the wax burned him but Hyde knew that it had to be painful.
When he was finished, Hyde turned him slightly and saw that there were tiny tears in the corner of his eyes. He kissed those tears and feathers burst around them like when he first gave him his wings. Licht thought that he was merely blessing his wings again but there was something different about the kiss. The first time, Hyde had kissed his cheek and it was a teasing gesture more than anything. Now, it was almost tender.
“You’re acting weird, Shit Rat. Did those boulders hit you harder than I thought?” Licht reached up and threaded his fingers through Hyde’s hair to search for a bump on his head. “You were fretting over me when you’re the one hurt. What would you do without me? We wouldn’t have defeated that phoenix if it wasn’t for me.”
“It’s difficult to truly kill a phoenix. He’ll be reborn with the sunrise but we should be safe in the Forest of Ash. I doubt he’ll enter the forest and risk facing Sleepy Ash. We…” Hyde trailed off when he realized that something was off. Why hadn’t his brother confronted them yet? Sleepy Ash or Black Cat should’ve sensed them by now. He was so focused on Licht that he forgot about his brother for a moment.
“Hyde?” Licht called his name when he suddenly stood and ran to the house. He followed him despite his confusion. Hyde forced the door open and looked down the hall but the house was empty. He couldn’t sense his brother in the underground garden or the house either. If Sleepy Ash was above ground, it wouldn’t be long before he sensed them and returned. He whistled and summoned a blue bird onto his finger.
“Find where my brother is in the forest and distract him for as long as you can.” He ordered and watched the bird fly away. Then he turned back to Licht and explained. “Sleepy Ash isn’t in the cave so this is our best chance to find your friend and save him without fighting my brother. Maybe something in his house can tell me about his decision centuries ago too.”
While Hyde would’ve liked to confront Kuro about his decision directly, he knew that he and Licht weren’t in the best position to fight. Licht nodded in understanding and ran down the hall for his friend. “Mahiru! I came to save you. Where are you, Mahiru?”
Licht threw open every door he came across and he was disappointed each time. He called Mahiru’s name but he never replied and his throat was becoming raw. He didn’t know when Sleepy Ash would return but he was prepared to fight to save his friend. Hopefully, it wouldn’t come to that. He eventually came to the end of the hall and looked into the second last room. It was fully furnished, unlike the other bedrooms, and Licht wondered if it was where Mahiru stayed while captive.
He searched the room for anything that could tell him what happened to his friend. Licht started with the desk and rifled through the scrolls. As he combed over the paper, he heard Hyde enter the room. Licht looked up and asked, “Did you find anything?”
“No.” Hyde said with a heavy sigh. He scanned the room and the sight made him raise a brow. “Sleepy Ash usually keeps his room a mess because he’s too lazy to clean up. This room is too organized for him.”
“The room probably belongs to Mahiru. He hates messes.” Licht shrugged without stopping his search.
“This has to be Ash’s room because his books are here.” Hyde walked to the overflowing bookcase and took down one of the books. “These are the books of the dead and Sleepy Ash writes his judgement on the last page, sealing the soul’s fate. My brother wouldn’t leave something so important in your friend’s room.”
“If these books record each human’s fate, maybe you can find Ophelia’s. You’ll know where her soul resides.” He went to stand next to him and ran his hand over the books. Hope beamed in Hyde’s eyes and he started to pull down the books in a rush. Licht understood why Hyde was desperate to find the truth about the woman he loved. There was something in his desperation that hurt him though.
“Damnit, it’s not here!” Hyde’s hands tightened on the shelf until the wood broke and the books fell to the ground. “These are the souls he hasn’t judged yet. We need to find where he keeps the others. With the amount of death throughout the centuries, he has to store so many books somewhere. We need to find it.”
“We need to find Mahiru first! We don’t know what will happen to him if we waste our time searching for a single book in this giant forest.” Licht pointed out and grabbed his arm to stop him from running out of the room. “We can’t waste time when Mahiru’s married against his will. You can find what happened to Ophelia by asking your brother like we originally planned.”
“He wouldn’t tell me last time. Finding her book is the best way to find the truth.” Hyde shook him. “I need to know where she is. I loved her!”
Licht bit his lip and he had mixed feelings for a moment. Even if he wanted to tell Hyde to focus on the present, he didn’t know if he could convince him to do anything. But Licht was confident that he could save Mahiru on his own and let his hand drop. “Do whatever you want, Shit Rat. I’m going to save my friend so don’t get in my way. Mahiru’s not in this house so I’m going to search the forest for him.”
“Wait, Lichtan,” He paused at his voice and he hated that small jump his heart did. Hyde took his hand and cupped them. With a whistle, a majestic bird appeared in his hands. “Take Kranz with you. He’ll be able to help find your friend and protect you two.”
“I don’t need an Olympian’s help. Goodbye, Hyde.” Licht handed the bird back to him and left. As he made his way out of the house, he forced himself not to look back at Hyde.
Sometimes, he didn’t know what to make of the man. There were moments it seemed like he truly cared about him. Now, he was reminded that Hyde didn’t join him because he wanted to help him save Mahiru. He had his own reasons for traveling to the Forest of Ash that didn’t involve him. He was simply a good excuse to fly to the forest, maybe nothing more than a little entertainment on the way.
Licht knew that Hyde was an Olympian so he shouldn’t be surprised that a demigod meant so little to him. But he was disappointed. Hyde was half hearted and secretive so Licht had to wonder why he even bothered with him sometimes. He shook his head and whispered an order to himself. “Focus on finding Mahiru.”
“Mahiru looks like he’s having fun. You should join him.” Lily approached his brother who was leaning against the wall and watching the festival. While Kuro shrugged, his eyes never left Mahiru dancing around the fire with Black Cat. Kuro looked so enamoured with the sight that Lily doubted his brother heard a word he said to him. He wanted to persuade him to participate so he said, “Dance with Mahiru. I’m sure you’ll both have more fun together.”
“You know I can’t dance. It’ll be better if I just stay here and watch.” Mahiru’s face was lit with a smile and there was a joyful bounce in each step as he danced with the other villagers. Occasionally, Mahiru would motion to him join them but Kuro shook his head. “If I tried to dance, it’ll feel awkward. I’m certain the villagers don’t want the God of the Dead dancing with them.”
“Misono invited you to the festival and the villagers respect him so they won’t stop you from enjoying it. You spared one of their kings.” Lily reassured him but he still looked doubtful. Kuro took a sip of his wine and tried to ignore the longing he felt. Honestly, Mahiru looked so happy that Kuro was tempted to join him but he held himself back. He knew that people still feared him despite Misono and Mahiru’s efforts.
As the song ended, he glanced up and saw Mahiru break away from dancers to make his way to him. Mahiru stopped in front of him and place his hands on the wine goblet to stop him from drinking more. “You’re going to drink yourself into a stupor if you don’t slow down. How about you dance off the alcohol with me? I know you said you didn’t want to dance but one song can’t be that bad. Please, Kuro?”
The decision was made for him when Lily took his drink and pushed him towards Mahiru. “Kuro would love to dance! He was just telling me that he was too shy to ask you.”
Kuro stumbled forward a little but Mahiru quickly caught his hands and supported him. Although Kuro glared at his brother, he escorted Mahiru onto the center of the plaza. Lily used his power to change the festive song into something slower and soothing.
They stopped next to the firepit as the slow song began. Mahiru placed his hands on his shoulders but he whispered, “I know Lily was lying. You don’t have to dance with me if you don’t want to.”
“I want to.” He said as he placed his hands on his hips and no other answer could bring a brighter smile to his face. Mahiru slipped his right hand off his shoulder so he could hold Kuro’s hand and tangled their fingers together. When the song started, Kuro led them into a leisurely slow dance. He couldn’t remember the last time he danced, if he ever did, but he found it effortless with Mahiru.
It was easy for Mahiru to match his pace with Kuro’s and it came to him almost naturally because of how much time they had spent together. They moved in a languid circle and he enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere around them. Mahiru was happy that Kuro decided to dance with him but he had to admit that he was surprised as well. “I thought you would say dancing was troublesome or something.”
“Dancing is troublesome and tiring but this is nice. The song is slow so I only need to sway with you a little.” Kuro tried to sound dismissive but a tiny smile played on his lips. Even though it was small, Mahiru loved seeing his smile because it was something rare that Kuro only showed him. Mahiru returned that smile and leaned into him a little more as he relaxed into the moment.
Mahiru moved to wrap his arms around his neck. He closed his eyes and rested his cheek against Kuro’s chest. He could feel Kuro’s heartbeat and the rhythmic sound muffled the music around them. With his warmth surrounding him, he felt safe and protected. It was almost as if they were in their own world and all the anxieties Mahiru felt because of the festival vanished.
“Kuro, thank you for everything. I’ve always hated the Sun Festival because… It’s just…” Mahiru looked up at Kuro with hesitant eyes before he quickly dropped his gaze to their feet. In the safety of his arms, he wanted to tell Kuro his honest feelings. “Actually, July 7th… today is my birthday. I’ve never been able to enjoy my birthday because the festival reminds me of… Today is the first time in centuries that I had so much fun on my birthday and it’s because of you. I can’t thank you enough.”
“I didn’t do much.” He was a little surprised by Mahiru’s words. Kuro always thought that he acted strange whenever someone mentioned the sun but he didn’t think that it would be for a petty reason like the Sun Festival falling on the same day as his birthday. Mahiru’s expression was caught between emotions so Kuro tenderly stroked his hair. “Why didn’t you tell me that today’s your birthday sooner? I would’ve gotten you something if I knew.”
“I don’t like thinking about my birthday.” Mahiru placed his hand over Kuro’s when he caressed his cheek. “You don’t need to get me anything for my birthday. Anyways, you’ve given so much already: fire, the ability to help humans and the chance to see my friends again. I never imagined I could be so happy on my birthday or have so much to be thankful for.”
“Mahiru…” His name was a whisper between them. Mahiru was certain that he wouldn’t have heard it if he wasn’t dancing so close to Kuro. Their steps slowed until they were standing still and merely embracing each other. Neither noticed that the song had ended because their heartbeats had drowned out the music a long time ago. Mahiru leaned into his hand and sighed.
“I don’t know if I deserve to be this happy…” His soft lips fluttered against his palm as he muttered.
“No one deserves happiness more than you. You’re the kindest person I know.” Kuro said quickly and Mahiru looked up at him, a little shocked by the conviction in his voice. He worried his lower lip, wondering if he should believe him. He still appeared uncertain and Kuro wished that he could wipe that doubt from his face so he could see him smile again. “You’re wonderful, Mahiru.”
The arm around Mahiru’s waist drew him closer to Kuro while the other hand on his cheek tilted his face slightly. Lightly, Kuro brushed his lips over Mahiru’s. It was a brief kiss, almost chaste, but it made both of them fall back to reality. Mahiru’s eyes widened and he whispered. “Kuro?”
Kuro hadn’t meant to kiss him but his body moved before he could think better of it. He didn’t want to think of why he did what he did so he hastily pulled away from Mahiru. “I… I need some air.”
I was supposed to get this out yesterday but I had to do overtime and didn’t get home until pretty late.
