I've given myself heat exhaustion AGAIN (heck, I hope it's only heat exhaustion, rip) and I am not here for it ffs so to make sure y'all know about it, imma share the signs of heat exhaustion!
Heat exhaustion is quite literally your body getting too hot and Exhausting itself to cope. Heatstroke is your body Failing To Cope.
Heat Exhaustion signs include:
You get a headache that Will Not Go Away
You feel confused and dizzy (balance who? Idk her)
You don't feel hungry but you feel sick as well (this sucks and happens a lot in high heat so try and snack regularly)
Sweating and clammy skin like the kind that has people go "you're freezing!" because you've sweated so much you literally end up with a chill on your skin
Cramps. Feckin cramps. Arms. Legs. Stomach. They suck ass.
You have a heckin fast pulse or you're hyperventilating like you've just had a Scare
Your body temp is over 38°c (because you're literally boiling like a lobster in a pot)
You are Beyond Thirsty and no matter what you drink it Does Not Abate
If you end up experiencing any of these symptoms, or multiple, and you're in a hot/warm environment, then sit your ass down in the shade, get something to drink, and get a damp cloth on your head or a change of clothes that are cool.
Basically, stop what you're doing and give your body a chance to Not Keep Boiling
Heat exhaustion is NOT THE SAME as a heatstroke.
Heatstroke is So Much Worse™.
Heatstroke signs include:
Still feeling like utter shite 30 minutes after you sat your ass down, rested in a cool place, and rehydrated
Not actually sweating even though you really do feel like a lobster in a pot that has the heat up High
Your body temp is 40°c+ (which is bad btw, that's temp for causing your to pass out etc)
Hyperventilating/fast breathing or actual shortness of breath (I struggle with this because asthma so I'm always like "idk if I got this oops)
Feeling confused but in a like "I don't know what's going on, I can't think, I have no idea about anything, someone help me please I'm crossing into traffic and don't even realise" way
Having a fit/seizure because your body temp is so high your brain is Actually Getting Boiled In Your Skull 🙃 [upside down smiley emoji]
Passing out and not actually responding or waking up from a brief fainting spell (this is the Serious™ kind of passing out that has doctors going "oh shit, we need an IV STAT!" or whatever it is they say when Shit Is Going Down)
Heatstroke can be really dangerous if it isn't treated quickly so please don't ignore these signs. Right now, I'm in a cool environs, with hydration, and am avoiding moving and am gonna have a nap because I'm going very dizzy, can't focus properly, have a headache, and am only coherent here because I'm HyperFocusing on this post. I can't even understand words being said to me right now hence nap, hydration, and cool environs.
So please, y'all, take care of yourselves. Seriously.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, my aunt's dog past away of a heatstroke yesterday while in a family gathering and I want to share some things that I've learn from the vet and other articles on the internet in case it might help someone. If anyone would like to add or correct some information please do so.
How to prevent a heatstroke in dogs:
Make sure your dog is not on an enclosed or poorly ventilated area.
Don't make them exercise on hot days, if you most do so make sure it's in the earliest hours of the day or at night and take water with you.
Keep them hydrated: make sure they are regularly drinking water especially in days with the highest temperatures.
You can place a moist towel on their backs. Make sure there's no water dripping from it before you do so.
If you feel your dog's body is getting hot (check the ears) you can try to puor room temperature water on their belly. Do not pour cold water or pour the water on their backs. The sudden temperature shift can actually be bad for your dog and pouring the water on their back we'll heat them up more.
Signs of heatstroke
If your dog shows this symptoms take them to the vet inmediatly. Keep in mind this were the symptoms showed by my aunt's dog):
Excessive and loud panting
Increased salivation
Foamy or thick saliva
Difficulty walking
Their tongue turns blue
Red scleras
Vomit and diarrhea*
*not showed by my aunt's dog
On extreme cases, a heatstroke can cause:
Shock ( the dog collapses, can't stand, becomes unresponsive)
Temporary blindness
If you touch or try to hold them they make a move similar to pedaling or swimming. This is means possible seizures.
Seizures.
If you get to this point, your dog will have difficulty breathing, so put them in a lion position with their belly and their paw pads touching the ground.
Tumblr media
Also keep their mouth open from time to time so they can get more oxygen.
Once your dog has gotten treatment at a vet, it is likely they will not eat or drink and they'll keep panting for another day. Offer them water and food as time goes, but do not force feed them anything.
Highest risk
Your dog is at a higher risk of a heatstroke if they:
Are very young or very old
Are overweight
Are a flat face breed such as bulldogs or pugs.
Have thick coats
Have pre-existing lung or heart conditions.
I'd really appreciate if you could share this. I'm sorry if any information is wrong, I got it from the vet and some quick reaserch on the internet. Please correct me if that's the case so I can edit this post.

Eternal Heatstroke
chapter 2: pieces of broken hourglass
The European leg of the Re-Imperatour goes about as smoothly as you might imagine.
Tumblr media
Aeon practically spends the next few weeks split between the practice room and locked into their own room. They're fitted for a uniform and mask, and they're more than eager to start wearing it. The mask keeps the other ghouls' eyes off of them, covers the scars that rake across the left side of their face. Even in the common room, when they poke their head out from the safety of their room, they wear the helmet.
Aurora eyes them with something that reads like pity from where she's tucked between the other ghoulettes. She's managed to gel with the pack almost immediately, find her place within their ranks, but they're still on the sidelines, and they feel it itching under their skin, the envy, even though they're the ones keeping their distance. Aeon's been watching, a little shadow against the walls, haunting the pack like a phantom, and even though none of the ghouls they've met have made moves to harm them, they still don't trust them. The moment they let their guard down, turn their back, Aeon fears they'll have claws in their back.
Read the rest on ao3, or start from the beginning

my policy on spoilers is i either want to know everything or nothing. if i think the content will distress me, i will read a synopsis beforehand. otherwise, i prefer to go in blind. vague comments tend to be much more alarming than actual plot details - when i hear people say things like "i just can't believe they did that!" or "(x character) deserved better!", my brain starts running on a hamster wheel trying to figure out the context, and i often end up spoiling myself on purpose just to alleviate the stress. might not be the most normal way to watch things but it's the way that works for me

The RVC urges owners of hot dogs to “cool first, transport second” A new study by the VetCompass team at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has found that dogs with heatstroke may be suffering even further due to outdated first aid practices. The research calls for updated guidance to be promoted more widely for dogs with heatstroke – including cold water immersion and using fans or air conditioning on soaked dogs – to support owners to provide the best possible care.

uhhh kunikidazai lil light hearted fic idea where Dazai is convinced kunikida has a secret girlfriend cuz he keeps doing suspicious things like leaving work early, buying more food than necessary, and even overhears him talking on the phone about 'her' to someone
Dazai gets very awkward around kunikida abt this all and jealous over 'her' and one day he can't handle it and confronts Kunikida. 'Hey I know about 'her'. Why are u keeping her a secret?' and Kunikida is surprised but replies 'cause I knew you'd be upset if you knew about her and you are aren't you?' and then Dazai is like 'No' (he is). Kunikida sighs and is like 'guess there's no use in hiding her anymore, I'll take you to meet her'
And he brings Dazai home and it turns out he took in this golden retriever dog and is like 'see I knew you'd be upset cuz u hate dogs' KDJHDK-

How to help pets in the extreme heat, by an aussie
Keep them inside with the AC on
Only take them for walks in the early morning and late evening, when it’s cooler.
NEVER leave them in the car unattended.
I give all my pets ice water to drink (like, literally, half-melted ice)
get some fans and set them up around the house with towels over them so the pets dont hurt themselves
If they’re okay with water, putting out cool water tubs can be helpful for them to play in.
You can get pet-safe sunscreen for their ears and noses so they don’t burn.
You can also lay out some wet towels with really cold or icy water, for them to lie down on if they don’t want to get into water all the way.
If your car has AC, a last resort can be letting them sit in there for a little bit every so often so they can cool down.
If they start panting rapidly, sweating and not moving as much as they normally do, take them to the vet, they probably have heatstroke.
Hope this helps!
