in honor of my flavor-obsessed anon, what happens when you lick MDZS characters:
Wei Wuxian: spicy, obviously. like when you accidentally eat a whole chili in a curry, for most people just such an overpowering sensation of heat that there isn’t much nuance to the flavor. but for those who can... a rich and complex mix of sensations.
Lan Wangji: cold but deceptively flavorful, like a really fancy vanilla ice cream. will give you brain freeze.
Lan Xichen: listen you’re either someone who understands when i say that water has different flavors or not. like licking an icicle. cool, refreshing, primally satisfying.
Jiang Cheng: sparky like pop rocks, with a similar extremely in-your-face, kinda artificial taste that is either your thing or not.
Jiang Yanli: like licking the outside of a dumpling. you want to so bad and when you do it’s not quite as satisfying as you’d hoped, but you know there’s still good stuff inside.
Nie Huaisang: like licking cotton candy. it’s there then it’s gone but it lingers on your tongue weirdly. so so so sweet. too sweet.
Jin Guangyao: kind of viscous, like fancy organic honey. also like fancy organic honey in that you realize after you’ve tried it that you were expecting a certain flavor but actually the real thing is subtly different. some people can’t get past the texture though.
Nie Mingjue: like licking the back of a spoon. traces of other flavors but at bottom something hard and smooth you feel a little guilty for licking.
when i was in art school my teacher kept yelling "MIX ALL THE COLORS WITH SOMETHING NEVER USE COLOR STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTLE FACTORY COLORS ARE HIDEOUS" and i was always like ?????? because i actually did love bottle colors
fast forward 789 years and i totally get where she was coming from– bottle colors are incredibly synthetic and one dimensional, the pigments are mixed in very minimalist formulas in order to be easily mass produced and therefore bottle colors, acrylics gouaches oil paint whatever have you, the bottle color is very one dimensional and uniform. When you mix you're essentially baking the colors, so they end up looking richer and more multidimensional, also closer to how they happen in nature
i learnt this by staring at flat photoshop colors on my screen and hating them with every fiber of my being
anyone else have multiple traumatic memories associated specifically with holidays/family vacations? because that is a topic I never see discussed in all the So You Had A Shitty Childhood, Now What? self-help books i've been reading. but for me, it was a significant thing. and the more i think about it the more it seems like this would be an (unfortunately) common experience. would be grateful to hear if this matches other peoples' experiences...
Ty to the lovely @end3rf0x for the voice, once again!!
