Hi Crowie ^-^ Sorry for the long delay. Here are my gaming asks for You <3 Have fun
1 - 2 - 3 - 10 - 18 - 28 - 30
Tight hugs
🦋 Rumor Imbris 🌧️🎵⛈️🎶
@rumor-imbris! Hello! *hugs back* Don't worry about the timing, I was still happy to receive this from you! I hope you're well! <3 Anyway, allow me to finally get back to you with my answers! ^_^
(Also, sorry this got so gif-heavy, but I'm addicted to using them lol)
---------
1. Last game you finished?
Uncharted 4, baby! Loved it! (Nathan Drake has my heart)
Tumblr media
2. Game(s) you’re currently playing?
For a while there, I was keeping on the Uncharted train and working through Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. However, I recently booted up Resident Evil: Village for the first time and have switched my focus over to that. (Chris Redfield also has my heart)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. 1-3 games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed?
Hmm, let’s see...in no particular order...
1. Bioshock Infinite, for sure. I’ve literally have beaten the game 5 times now, with my most recent completed run being on the hardest difficulty, “1999 Mode” (complete with the tough ‘Scavenger Hunt’ Achievement’ #humblebrag), and I STILL enjoyed the heck out of it. (Booker DeWitt also, also has my heart, and Elizabeth is precious and needs to be protected at all costs)
Tumblr media
2. Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m far from completing this game, but I love the world so much. It fun to just run around and explore and visit the towns, and such. AND THE DETAILS. THE AMOUNT OF DETAILS IS INSANE. (Arthur Morgan also, also, also has my heart)
Tumblr media
3. Alan Wake/AW’s American Nightmare. THIS. GAME. THIS GAME LITERALLY CHANGED MY LIFE. No joke. It’s not just a game, it’s an experience. Gosh, I cannot praise it enough. The writing is just... *chef’s kiss* (Alan Wake himself may or may not also, also, also, also have my heart)
Tumblr media
10. A console and/or handheld you’ve never played but would like to try?
There are some more modern consoles that I’ve yet to try, but since they play basically the same as some previous generation ones, I think I’m going to cheat with this question a bit and not necessarily highlight a console, but an arcade cabinet instead. There’s this one called “Carnevil”, which is basically an on-rail shooter type of game, but it takes place in a haunted, resurrected, and obviously evil carnival, run by a mad professor. (That aesthetic is just my jam, really.) It sadly has never been officially ported to any consoles, so chances of trying it are very low, but if I ever get the opportunity, I’d be one happy gal!
Tumblr media
18. A game location you really like
Because I won’t shut up about Bioshock, I’m going to highlight the “Battleship Bay” section from Bioshock Infinite. It’s absolutely GORGEOUS and was one of the things that attracted me to the game in the first place. Seriously, that soft color palette is EVERYTHING.
Tumblr media
28. Pick a series you like. What was the first game you played for it? Was it a good starting point? Would it still be a good starting point now?
Since I spoke about Bioshock in my last ask response, let me bring up an older series that was a HUGE staple of my late childhood/early teens: Sly Cooper (or Sly Raccoon, if you’re outside of the U.S.), I started with the first one when I was only 10, and was totally hooked! While most claim the 2nd game, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, is the best in the series, I believe playing the first one was the best starting point, and still think it is, even now. Sure, the other games may be a tad easier, and the first one may not be the most polished, it still has its charm, and sets up Sly’s motives and family history from the get go. (I still haven’t played the 4th one yet, but if I ever get my hands on a PS4 or PS5, you know I’ll give it a try!) Overall, I highly recommend this series!
Tumblr media
30. Game you think you’ll finish next?
Given that they’re both what I’m currently focusing on, it’ll likely either be Resident Evil: Village or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I'm enjoying both so far!
---------
Thank you so much for you ask, and your patience! These were really fun to answer! ^_^

Razzle icon thingy was drawn for me by my beloved artist Kera. ~He's definitely very "IAHDISJDHWJDJD" about it. Eyes popping out of his head, pupils throbbing hearts, tongue out and panting, stamping his foot on the ground, ect.
~Literally. He's a toon.
~Bouncing around you, looking you up and down and whistling at you.
~Sometimes, if he's in a huge fit of trouble (when is he ever NOT in trouble), he'll steal a dress and disguise himself as a pretty lady to get away from whatever trouble he's got himself into. People don't always fall for it but it's his last resort. Help him.
~Razzle Dazzle definitely wants to dance with you because oh my GOSH IN THAT PRETTY OUTFIT?? HE WANTS TO SEE THE POOFY DRESS FAN OUT WHEN YOU TWIRL
~Just thinks you're the cutest thing in the world.
~Aside from him of course because he KNOWS he's adorable >:)
~Pervert toon time:
~Lifts your skirt and whistles
~Catch him staring at your ass.
~He does it to tease you not to genuinely be a pervert.
~Calls you his doll. 'Cause ya look like a doll!

(Comes over and opens the envelope first and sees a beautiful blue card that makes me smile)
All of the guys: SURPRISE!!!!!
Me: guys! Oh my gosh this is all for me?
Karl: oh yeah, go ahead and open the bag! You'll love it!
Me: I'm assuming all of you got me something?
Elijah: we did! Now cmon! See what's inside!
Me: (giggles and pulls out a bag of cool ranch doritos) ah yes my favorite chip! I'm sensing a theme here...I'm assuming Oz got me this?
Oz: everything's blue themed, for your favorite color. And yes, the chips were my idea.
Me: thanks sweetie. Hm...(takes out a blue powerade) hm...I was hoping for a voltage but I like blue powerade too.
Elijah: sorry honey, all they had was frost bite. I know you like the purple powerade best but...wanted to stick to the theme.
Me: you're so sweet! Thanks darling :) (pulls out blueberry sorbet scented wax cubes) Astarion, I'm guessing this was you?
Astarion: figured you'd like a new scent for the room. The cookies and cream is getting old at this point. Do you like it?
Me: I love it! I've never actually tried sorbet but it's nice ^^ (pulls out a small blue eyeshadow palette) hm...Karl?
Karl: close but not quite.
Otto: that was me. Check the brand.

Oh my gosh, the colors here are vibrant and gorgeous right now!  It’s true we don’t have the reds of New England or the golds of Colorado but we have bright oranges and pale yellows which are also lovely.
Tumblr media
After Zumba class today I walked on the other side of the pond in Diagonal Park and the wetlands there are a beautiful palette of burnt orange, blush, sunny yellow, and peach.  Isn’t Nature marvelous!?  It brightens up my mood to walk in this wonderland of Life.

My September Style Board
I have always loved styling ever since when I was young. For some reason, I have always wanted to blog about the clothes I wear and how I mix and match my pieces. But since I think I have focused more on what my readers wanted to read back when I was very active in blogging back in 2011, I’ve usually written about beauty and K-Pop.
Well these days, I have been trying to loop things back to why this blog was created in the first place - being my personal space. An online space where I shouldn’t really care much about what to write! So here’s another out of the blue post - my style board!
Tumblr media
When I look back at how my fashion style has changed all throughout the years, it’s also sort of a fascinating way to see how much I’ve grown. If you’ll see what I wore in BIGBANG’s concert back in 2012, this pretty much epitomizes my style from my late teens to early 20s! Colorful, borderline weird, and statement-centered. I get stared at all the time because I look like this amongst people in plain T-shirts and denim jeans.
But as I grow older, I began to go for something more muted. Of course, I’d say they’re still unique pieces, but I’ve become more balanced with my cuts and patterns. I go for a coordinated color palette, with plain colors complementing bright prints and patterns. Plus, I feel like I’m more wise with my fashion purchases in terms of price (I hope). One of my biggest shopping mistakes of my early 20s is spending so much on seasonal items. one example is that Adidas x Jeremy Scott Wings shoes I wore during the BIGBANG concert which I only get to wear a few times before it went out of trend. I saw 2NE1 wear them and I thought its super unique looks would justify its price. The next thing I know, everyone else is wearing them - because knock-offs were being sold left and right in markets around the metro! The same goes with my Giuseppe Zanotti shoes that G-Dragon and Park Bom once wore! The style is gorgeous, to be fair, but my gosh they were extremely uncomfortable for me. I ended up selling them both.
Tumblr media
Now that I’m in my 30s, I have slowly shifted (or maybe “transitioned” is a better word) to more mature and sort of smart casual ensembles. Something I can wear both on a casual dinner date with friends and business meetings. Well of course I love how my style has changed but I sometimes feel like I want to remain in touch with my younger, weirder self. So mom and I’s little hobby styling clothes then selling them as full outfit ensembles became a medium to me to express that side of me. I’d coordinate a look that my younger and present self would wear, sell it, and get so much satisfaction on seeing others wear what I have styled.
This made me realize that I’m a frustrated stylist all this time! I’ve been in the field of teaching and editorial writing for years, and then at the back of my head, I really wanted to be a stylist! Well, is it too late for a career shift? I guess my little online styling gig right now should suffice.

Gail - Maiden of Endless Spring
Base Doll: Ashlynn Ella from Ever After High
Clothing: Made by splendidmiscellany (Her etsy is closed as of this post, but when it opens back up, HIGHLY recommend her work, it’s gorgeous! https://www.etsy.com/shop/SplendidMiscellany/sold)
More photos and description under the cut!
So here’s the story: Last year my dear friend Lauren from Splendidmiscellany on Instagram hosted a giveaway to celebrate reaching 500 followers. The prize was this beautiful doll dress in the wa-loli style, and by some stroke of luck, my name was pulled from the random draw! Never won a raffle before, but I knew I had to do Lauren’s work justice! (I actually bought another dress from her for a different custom that isn’t finished yet, might be redoing her later this year.)
I hadn’t had any plans to make a doll over the summer, since the weather is way too humid where I live, but we were visiting my grandparents for a week in the secluded mountains, so I took my supplies and did her face there whenever it wasn’t raining. She was VERY impromptu, but I made sure to think carefully about her design. Lauren’s original post featured the dress on an Ashlynn Ella doll, and I decided to pull out one of mine since the skin tone looked really good with this palette. I decided to carry those colors into the hair, and I happened to have the perfect yarn to do so with, it was almost an exact match! I also knew that I wanted a flower on her face, inspired by Dollightful’s Amanita fairy doll, so that was the big focus of the face. I only had my travel sized pencils with me, and I have to say, even though the quality is a bit lower, this worked out well! It makes me wanna work with more EAH dolls, I’ve found that I like them a lot.
The MVP of this project though was my new supply: a pearlescent red pan pastel. This is my new favorite supply for blushing, it’s just the right amount of shimmer and reddish-pink for the way I like to do things, and I can’t believe I liked blushing the body for a change, that is SO NICE!
The photoshoot was by far the most fun though. I took Gail to the lake and borrowed a dock to shoot on at the end of the afternoon, and oh my gosh, the reflection of the clouds in the water was STUNNING, I LOVE the way those shots turned out! So many people asked me how I did it, and the answer really is just being at the right place at the right time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gail doesn’t have a concrete place in my story, but I imagine she lives in the spring part of the kingdom. I know for sure that she likes being in the royal gardens and often cares for the plants there, among other things. I hope you enjoy her photoshoot!

⊱ ──────ஓ๑♡๑ஓ ────── ⊰
Dragonspine was never in their bucket list of places to visit. It was deadly cold. Monsters roamed around. Even the Fatui were presented. [Y/N] was surprised how he managed to reached the campus set out by the Chief Alchemist further up the mountain. One would think he would camp out with the group based at the bottom of the mountain. He was a skilled swordman and his vision kept him warm throughout the difficult journey as best as it could. He did broke a sweat when fighting a few monsters but all that was important was his destination. Thus meeting Albedo, the genius Kreideprinz. [Y/N] was new to the Knight of Favonius, started back a few weeks ago. Today he was ordered by the Acting Grand Master to assist the Captain of the Investigation Team in one of his experiments. Or alternatively, Jean worried about the alchemist not taking care of himself and potentially risking failed experiments turn to unwanted results in Dragonspine and Mondstadt.
It was his order to check on the man. But, by the Archons, does he had to camp this far up. [Y/N] groaned when he reached a broken bridge. How was he going to get to the other side? Ah, right. Gliding. With a good running start, he could jump just high enough and glide his way to the other half of the fallen bridge with no added injuries. A flawless plan.
Not.
A scream left his lips when he jumped as best as he could after his run. No wonder he did terrible at mathematics. His calculations were off. And now, he was going to pump down to his end. Just to check on some big-time, smart guy. [Y/N] should had decline. But he wanted to prove himself. For what now? Prove he can see the light firsthand? What a joke. He reached out, his hand inches away from the other broken part of the bridge. He was so focus on reaching something to grab on he didn't hear his own scream leave his mouth nor the abrupted tug on his hand held by another. He came to his senses when he smacked against the wall under the brigde harshly, letting out a groan. [Y/N] looked up. [E/C] eyes met bright teal eyes. Such beautiful eyes. It felt like he was staring into emerald instead. They outshined the blues around Dragonspine. Like sun if the clouds ever go away.
"Are you only going to keep staring or help me pull you up?" He heard, the soothe voice snapping [Y/N] out of their thoughts. A blush bloomed on his face as he cleared his throat, using his other hand to keep himself firm in their hold.
"S-Sorry..." [Y/N] mumbled as he was pulled up. Solid, cold ground was what he felt right away. He looked over his shoulder, grimacing at the sight of the long fall he could had experienced first and last. Cursing the fall away, the knight turned back to his savior, about to thank them until he stopped himself. Upon closer look, his savior was... handsome. Their ashy light blonde hair reached below their shoulders, pulled back in a braided ponytail. It lookes adorable. Soft, even. It makes him want to run his fingers through it. Realizing he was staring again, [Y/N] cleared his throat as he shook his head, his blush increasing in color. Eyes darted to stare at the ground instead. "Uh, thank yo-you... Thank you for saving me back there." The knight said with a small smile, looking back his savior only to see them walk away already. "What?" [Y/N] sat there forzen, not believing what happened. He chuckled weakly, now pissed for the rude manner. "Hey, wait up!" He stood up from the ground, dusting himself off from any snow as he ran up to catch up to the mystery person. "You know, it's really rude to jusf walk away like that!" [Y/N] complained, slowing down as he came up to a campsite. His eyes widen a bit. There were bookshelves lined up again the walls of the cavern. Tables filled with written pages and materials. A small set of art supplies in one area and an crafting table by his side. Did his savior lived here? Wait, was this...?
"Are you the Captain of the Investigation Team, Albedo?" The knight said, walking up to the alchemist who simply nodded with no reply. He was focused on his work, [Y/N] could see that. "Oh okay..." He muttered underneath his breath, raising a brow. Well, here he was. The alchemist looked alright. There was no sight of any failed experiments. Mondstadt was good to stay for another day. But [Y/N] wasn't leaving yet. "My name is [F/N]. I was ordered by the Acting Grand Master to check on you... Which is why I'm here..." Albedo only gave a faint hum. What a conversationalist. "Okaaay..." The young man looked around. He couldn't just leave after what he just experienced. He was still shaky.
"Where are you from?" [Y/N] asked, attempting to make a conversation.
"Here and there." Albedo replied bluntly.
"What do you do?"
"This and that."
"You ever-"
"Now and then."
"Gosh, you're just full of information." [Y/N] grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest.
"And you're just full of interruptions." Albedo fired back, finally looking away from his work and turned to the knight. His expression was stoic but his beautiful emerald eyes held a hint of annoyance. His comment made the other man pouted and rolled his eyes. "You done your quest. Now, you may leave."
"What the-? Huh?" He couldn't believe it. He was being kicked out? Reasonable, actually. But still. What a rude alchemist. "Okay, look, I have to actually make sure you're okay and Jean said to stay for a few days before I return, anyway." [Y/N] explained. Albedo sighed softly, disinterested from the interaction. The knight clicked his tongue. "So, no, I'm not leaving." The knight huffed, head held high. Albedo hummed again, already looking back at his work. "Oh my- really?" [Y/N] shook his head, running a hand through his hair. He kept studying the area they were in, trying to locate any sort of self-care going on. There was a cook pot but the burned woods look as if it had went out hours ago. "How long had you been working?"
Albedo shrugged, papers being moved around in his area. [Y/N] sighed. He went to stand beside the table, inches away from him to not disturb his work. With the closeup, [Y/N] saw fainted dark circles under his eyes. He looked a little pale, too.
"Have you eaten at all? Rest?" He asked softly, a frown on his face. His gloved hands rest on his waist. [Y/N] looked like a parent scolding their child. Albedo shrugged again. The knight groaned, head tilted back. The lack of responses were starting to pissed him off. "I'll make you something." He grumbled, looking into his traveling bag as he walked over to the pot. Using his Pryo vision, he watched the flames come to alive once more. He pulled out pre-packaged ingredients he made himself before he set off.
Albedo's concentration was fully on his project but the smell of a delicious meal wandered around his nose. It pulled him out of his priority. The scent made his stomach growled. The Geo user stopped what he was doing and turned around. His eyes spotted the knight crouched down beside the pot, stirring around the contents it cooked. The flames illuminated the small cave, the knight's face glowed from it. Hair swayed back, half-lidded eyes stared boredly at the pot. Soft lips pressed into a thin line. It was a pretty sight. A perfect picture. A gorgeous paint on a canvas. His canvas. The scenery needed to be painted in his canvas.
[Y/N] heard movements behind him but he didn't bother to look up. He figured the alchemist was still all over his experiments. Behind his back, Albedo set up his easel, an 18x24 canvas rest nicely on it. His paints, brushes, and palette laid beside him on a stool with a cup of water on it as well. He began to sketch out the sight, a concentrated frown on his face.
"Hmm... I think it's done." [Y/N] muttered to himself, smiling a bit at the cooked stew he made. He was about to get up but a shout stopped him.
"Don't move! I'm not done yet." He heard the alchemist. The Pyro user blinked, confusion written over his face. "Not done..." Albedo continued, his hand moving a brush around. [Y/N] swallowed, wondering what he was doing.
"Why can't I move?" He asked, still in the position.
"Because I'm not finish."
"Finish with what?"
"The painting... It's not finished..." Albedo trailed off, focusing more on the canvas. [Y/N] was dumbfounded. Ah, right. The alchemist had a set of art supplies. But why could he be painting? Was he painting him? He was just sitting around the cook pot, nothing else. What did he capture in his mind to had the urge to paint? So much questions ran through his head and his face rest back to how it was when the knight stared at the pot. Just what Albedo needed to complete his new piece.
Half an hour passed and the flames were small. the pot was sat beside it. No need to have burnt food. [Y/N]'s legs were starting to cramp.
"Are you do-"
"Done." Albedo finished for him, stepping back from his canvas. [Y/N] sighed in relief as he stood up and stretched his limps out, hearing a few joints popped. Surely didn't sounded good but felt good. He walked over to Albedo.
"Can I see, please?" He asked, tilting his head. Albedo stared at the canvas before shifting his eyes over to the knight. He suddenly felt flustered. What a foreign feeling. It was he was embarrassed. He was not embarrassed. His face felt warmed. Was he blushing? What was going on? [Y/N] waited for an answer, raising a brow as he sent a charming smile his way. Why did such a gesture made his chest tightened but in a good way? Like something fluttered inside him. Was his heart beat increasing? Impossible. Feelings were unfamiliar to him. So, why was he experiencing them right now? "Albedo..." His name rolled out of his mouth. It sounded perfect. Did he just noticed it?
"It's not finished..." Albedo replied quickly, throwing [Y/N] off guard.
"But you said-"
"It's not finished." Albedo repeated, clearing his throat. The knight nodded slowly.
"Okaay..." [Y/N] mumbled, looking back at the pot. "Ah, well, dinner is ready. C'mon, let's eat." He said, walking back at the pot to begin serving the meal for both. Albedo watched him, lips parted slightly. His teal eyes moved back to the canvas. Finished. It was finished. He just... didn't want to show the knight but why? It was beautifully painted. A pretty piece. The look he captured from the knight painted there. Admirable.
"Are you coming or what?" [Y/N] called out, already setting the other table for them to eat at. Albedo blinked and nodded a second later. He placed his brush and palette down, taking his gloves off as he made his way over. There they sat. In complete silence. It wasn't awkward, fortunately. It was comfortable atmosphere. No need to exchange words. Albedo seem to like that. Perhaps Jean did a good thing to sent someone out. It felt nice to have company over for once.

BTS Reaction: Baby mama love
Tumblr media
warnings: Pregnancy kink, kissing, touching, baby bump kink(?), honestly all of bts would love the frick out of their baby mama’s, lost of love, fluff, nipple play, breast play, cursing, mentions of insecurity. Please let me know if there is something I missed.
a/n: OMG... I was so excited about this ask as of now I’m the only one writing reactions and I hope you enjoy this anon and of course anyone who is interested in this topic hehe... this was very fun to write but it took me too long to do it because of school but its done none the less.
Tumblr media
Jin
You woke to Jin’s strong arms rubbing up and down your swollen stomach. You were towards the end of your second trimester and your baby bump had become very prominent. Your entire body ached, and you were an emotional wreck, but your husband, your wonderful, loving husband made sure to always put you at ease.
“Baby, wake up.” he placed a line of soft kisses down your spine. You hummed at his actions and attempted to move to face him.
“No, baby it’s okay.” He kissed the top of your head.
“Let’s stay like this for a bit.” His hands began to slide up and down your hips. You stay still and let yourself be appreciated by your husband. He moved closer to you so that his body was flush to yours. Jin loved to make it known how grateful he was for your generous contribution of ‘mother to our child’ as he likes to say not that you really had a choice since he wouldn’t be able to carry our baby.
“Jinnie, I wanna see your handsome face, help me turn over please.” You latch onto the hand which again rested on your pregnant belly. Jin grabbed onto your shoulders and unceremoniously flipped you over onto your other side. As soon as your eyes met his lips clashed with yours.
“My anea is so beautiful.” He moved a loose strand of hair from your face and placed it behind your ear. He reached for the blanket covers and pulled it off of the bed. You whined his name as the cold air hit your warm body. He gestured for you to sit up against the headboard. You settled against it and waited to see what Jin wanted.
He sat next to me and just let his eyes run up and down your body. His hand settled on your tummy and his face came down next to his arms.
“Hi baby Haesol, it’s your appa…I just wanted to say thank you.” He placed a small peck on your belly right above your navel.
“Your eomma looks absolutely beautiful right now and I cannot get enough of her gorgeous body.” he cupped his hand around his mouth as if he was whispering a secret to your little boy.
“Honestly… sometimes I just look at her and I just don’t think I can control myself. I just wanna eat her up. Like right now, she looks stunning. I have to go baby boy, I need to take care of your beautiful mama.”
“Oh, my gosh, Jin, don't tell him that!” you said as you gently smacked his shoulder.
“What? This way he’ll hear me better!”
Tumblr media
Yoongi
You reach for your favorite pair of jeans excited to get ready for the day. You gather up some accessories and a variety of tops to complete your look. It had been around three months since you found out you were pregnant and today you would have the first ultrasound. You had been doing some research and found out that today you might know the approximate birthday of your baby. Yoongi had decided to ask for a half day to accompany you to your appointment and he had messaged you saying that he was almost done with his work for the day. Yoongi being the loving husband he was, said he would pick up food on his way home to enjoy before you leave to the OBGYN clinic.
You took your belongings and set them on the bed and took a second to look at your reflection in the full-length mirror in your shared room. You lifted the large t-shirt you had worn to sleep and placed your delicate hand on your growing tummy. You looked at the way your body had begun to change. Your legs had swollen a little not used to the extra amount of weight you had put on. You look further up your body and you take notice of your hips. They had begun to widen, not a substantial amount but enough to be noticeable at least to you. Your eyes traveled further up and landed on your swollen tummy. You delicately placed your small hand on the swell of your stomach. You smiled happily at the thought of your future.
“You look beautiful,” Yoongi said from the doorway of your room. He walked slowly behind you and placed his hands on top of yours. He lowered his head to fit in the crook of my neck, he placed a few sparse kisses on the little skin that was exposed. He hummed into your ear. “and our baby is going to keep growing in here.” His hands rubbed up and down your exposed tummy.
His soft hands left goosebumps in their wake. Yoongi had expressed to you how excited he was to see my body grow to accommodate your child and he made sure to never let you feel insecure in your developing body. So to accommodate for your growing insecurities he only ever presented you with love and adoration anytime you had the chance to be together.
“I’m excited for our appointment today,” you said as you nuzzled yourself into his warm body.
“Me too, but you look so good now baby,” his hands slid up under your oversized sized shirt and cupped your tender chest. “and you. Are just. Going. To keep. Getting. Sexier. And sexier.” His words were emphasized but his plush lips which pressed softly into the skin of your neck. His hands played tenderly with your soft skin.
“I won’t be able to keep my hands off of you jagiya.”

 Hoseok
“Baby mama what are you doin’?” Hobi walked into your shared room, excited to see what you had been up to while he was at work. You look back at him with a glowing smile.
“I want to see which of my clothes still fit me. As far as jeans, as of now… I have one pair that fits me.” You turn towards your husband, giddy with excitement now that he was home. You reach for the button of the jeans you had on and pull at it to hopefully shut it but to no avail.  Hoseok walked towards you and placed his hands on your hips and looked straight into your eyes. He moved his hands to the small of your back and slithered his hands into the back pockets. He rests his forehead against yours as you wrapped your arms around his waist. He begins to lead your body to the beat of the song playing in his head and together you sway in the silence of your house.
“I can’t wait to see you grow more pregnant, Sunshine. Though I won’t lie,” his hand moves down to where your butt meets your thighs and gives it a firm squeeze, followed by a soft pat. “I’m really going to miss your ass in these jeans.” He grabbed your hand and raised it above your head, procedeeding to spin you slowly. His free hand stops you when you're facing away from him. He pulls you so the swell of your behind is pressed up against his slim figure. Once again, he guides your body to the beat of the song that wasn’t playing. His slender hands roam over your developing curves. They move around you as if he’d never felt your body. Two years of dating and three years of marriage had made the two of you experts when it came to each other’s bodies. Though right now Hoseok seemed to be hesitant to let himself enjoy you like he did in the past.
“God, you're so perfect, Sunshine.” You led him to the bed that was in the middle of your room and sat him at the foot of it. He spread his legs on the edge of the bed which gave you the opportunity to slot yourself between his muscular thighs. He smiled up at you and let his hands settle on your small baby bump under the shirt you were wearing. He leaned forwards to press a couple of quaint kisses to the apex of your tummy.
“Thank you so much, beautiful.” His face nuzzled into your stomach and hummed into your warm skin.

Namjoon
You’d been lounging around your house all day watching Netflix and doing other random ‘busy work’ Namjoon asked you to do. Since you had gone onto maternity leave you had a lot of time on your hands, so your wonderful husband always came home with projects and things for you to keep busy around the house. Recently you had begun to decorate the nursery and the two of you had decided on the theme of the room. So you began to paint the walls to look like a forest, alongside some cute woodland creatures that are scattered across the room.
“Y/n baby, I’m home!” You heard the door open and your husband’s shoes hit the floor as he threw them on the ground after removing them. Ever since you had become pregnant, Namjoon was excited to get home and just spend time with you. Now that you were in the first week of your third trimester your husband had become extra protective of you. He made sure you were eating good foods, getting in the necessary amount of sleep and making sure to help you destress if you ever did manage to get wound up.
“Hey, hon I’m painting in the nursery.” The clap of Namjoon’s house slippers echoed through the house as he approached the room you were in.
“How’s it coming along?” He slid his arms under the straps of your overalls and massaged your straining shoulders. You rested your head on his large hand and enjoyed his impromptu massage.
“Pretty good I think, I just need to try to match this brown and a few other colors, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want it to look like.” You point with your palette knife in the direction of the deer you had been working on for the past few days. You and Namjoon stood looking at the doe. It seemed like time stopped as you both looked at the solitary animal.
“You and the doe have the same eyes.” He placed a small kiss on your collar bone and smiled into your skin. “Also, I like what you're wearing today.”
He grabbed the straps of your tank top and snapped them on your shoulder. You scoffed at his small transgression and patted his thigh behind you. A moan slipped out of Namjoon’s plush lips and a smug smile crept its way on your glowing face.
“Oh, now I know why you were excited to get home?” You shift back into his hold while his hands slither down to your inner thighs.
“Baby, I mean come on,” he whined “just look at you.” He kissed the nape of your neck “You look so beautiful pregnant, Mama. From the ways your eyes glitter, to the way your lips got plumper, even your hair shines more.”
“yeah okay kiss up old man. You’re still short and i’m still fat”
He ignored your sassy comment instead he takes in a deep breath and cups your breasts in his big hands. “Your chest too, and your wider hips. Hmm? Not to mention your belly, God you’re so damn gorgeous.”
“I love you Joon.”
“I love you too Bambi.”
Tumblr media
 Jimin
“Jagiya~ I have something for you.” Jimin sang into the quiet house. He walked for a little while anxious to see you.
“Y/n? Where are you, Angel??” He yelled out again into your shared apartment.
“I’m running a bath, Minnie. Join me?'' The water coming out of the faucet made the bubbles in the bath water swirl around in the tub. It had been a while since you got to spend some time with your husband so you thought to spoil your man. Things had been a little hectic. The boys were working on some music for the comeback and with you being  close to the third trimester of your pregnancy, it didn’t help to reduce the stress Jimin was subjected to. So any chance you got you tried to make things easier for you husband since he had been extra loving and patient through your pregnancy. You heard a soft knock at the door and giggled.Even though you had been together for over five years, he still made you feel butterflies and giddy excitement when you got to spend time together.
“Come in, the bath is almost ready.” Jimin walks in hesitantly as if he was afraid of what was beyond the closed bathroom. You had set up a string of purple LED lights to give the room its ambient. Music also began to play softly. His hands are hidden behind his back and a goofy smile is plastered on his face as you approach him.
“I had a surprise for you, but I feel like you’ve got me beat.” He sets whatever he had in his hands on the countertop. He grabs onto your biceps and rubs them tenderly. “You are too good to me,” he affirmed as he rubbed his nose against yours. Your hands find the purchase of his waist and wrap tightly around it.
“Wait baby, what did you bring?” You rub small circles on the base of his spine. He shrugs out of your hold and grabs the small box from behind him and hands it to you. You pull at the pale pink ribbon and tear the wrapping paper.
“Jimin, you didn’t?” Inside the box was a small pale pink and blue Hanbok. Woven within the fabric of the skirt were threads of gold which shimmered when you moved the fabric around. Tears welled up in your eyes.
“I thought we could use this for when she turns one… you know for the Doljanchi ceremony.” Without hesitation you kiss his soft lips. You part your lips to allow your husband to explore your mouth with his tongue. You smile into the kiss.
“Let's get in the bath, yeah?” You nod and undress quickly. Jimin grabs your hand and leads you over and into the warm water. You sit down slowly with the guidance of your husband and he follows in to sit in front of you. He pats his legs and you hesitantly straddle his lap. You see a glimmer of lust in his eyes as they scan down your pregnant body. He cups your swollen breasts and rubs softly on your tender nipples. His head drifts down to nestle in bust.
“Fucking perfect.” He breathed out.
Tumblr media
 Taehyung
“Let me see you in the purple one?” He asked, though  it sounded more like a command. You turn swiftly and grab the next pair of lingerie from the box Tae had brought home for you. The velvet fabric felt luxurious as you brought the bralette up against your chest. You had started to grow uncomfortable with your body since your baby bump started showing, and now that you had begun to produce milk your chest had become a problem area for you. Not that you didn’t like how you looked. You just weren’t used to having these new dimensions. You expressed this negativity to your husband, but he was having none of it and promised to make sure to always let you know how beautiful you looked  even when you felt the opposite. That night the two of you stayed up just talking about your struggle and how these changes were affecting your mental health. So, you decided to really have patience with yourself and with the help of Taehyung you would find comfort in your body once again.
It had been a while since you had had that conversation with your husband and through your pregnancy you learned to thrive in your pre-partum body and found that you actually were enjoying your new figure. You felt confident. Even though the pregnancy had been difficult, you found a great amount of self-worth. Tae had noticed your shift in attitude and decided to help you grow even more comfortable in some more intimate situations.
You looked into the full-length mirror in your room and cautiously put on the lingerie that you had brought into the room. It fit you really well with the exception of your chest, you had grown a little and Tae hadn’t taken that into account. You fluff your hair and inspect your makeup before heading back to the living room where Tae was waiting for you. The patter of your feet is heard as you waddled towards your partner.
Tae sat comfortably on the couch, his legs were spread open and his hands grabbed at the back of his neck. His eyes seemed to be closed but his brow were furrowed. The light in the room made his honey skin glimmer. You noticed that he had undone one of the buttons on his white button up which exposed more of his soft golden skin.
“Tae, look please.” You said quietly as to not break the ambient of the room. His eyes open slowly as his head lifts off the back rest of the couch. He looks at you and lifts one hand up to cover his mouth.
“Fuck, you look good. Turn for me, sweetness. I bet the back looks just as good.” You nod at his request and turn slowly to face away from him. He hisses loudly at your appearance.
“Come here, sweetheart. I wanna see it up close.” His word had become slurred from what you assumed to be lust. You waddle as sexily as you could towards your husband. He chuckles softly at your attempt and grabs on to your rotund hips. His lips meet the apex of your baby bump where he places a hand up to your tender chest. His hand slides in between the fabric of your panties and your heat while the other reaches up to softly play with your engorged nipple through the velvet of the bralette.
“I’m such a lucky man, the mother of my babies.” He kissed around your exposed chest “My wife… is the most beautiful woman in existence. You don’t even know how grateful I am to be with you, Sweetness.”
Tumblr media
 Jungkook
Jungkook was so excited when he had found out you were expecting a child, so excited that he bought a brand-new camera just to take pictures of you throughout your pregnancy to see your tummy grow. Every day after work he made sure to take an aesthetic picture of you to eventually make a scrapbook to give to you for your next anniversary. Today he called you excitedly asking you to fill the bathtub with water, JUST water, he emphasized, so when he texted you that he was five minutes away you began to fill the tub with hot water. You hear the quiet buzz of the keypad as Jungkook put in the code to your apartment.
“Baby girl I’m home, did you fill the bathtub!” His voice ricocheted throughout the house.
“Yes, Bun I’m filling it up as we speak.” He set his bag down and took his camera and the lights and brought them with him to your restroom. He set the lights up and slung his camera around his neck.
“Baby, can you put on that pretty red robe, the really long one that’s transparent.” He looked down at you with his big bright eyes and sent you a loving smile. You walk out to your room and your husband continues fixing the bathtub. He grabbed a couple of the roses and removed the petals from the stem tossing the loose petals into the water. He took a few of the tea candles and placed them in the tub to see how they float in the bath. Content with the candles, he continued to fiddle with the color of the lighting until he found a setting that he knew would compliment your skin tone.
Your footsteps patter on the glossy tile. This alerted Jungkook to your presence. He turned to see you in the luxurious red garment. His eyes travel down the expanse of your body and he feels his member twitch in his grey joggers. He whispers a quiet wow under his breath. A flash of light reflects off the shiny tile. Jungkook looked down at his hands and noticed that his finger was on the shutter release.
“Eomeo.” He chuckled
“Get in the tub baby and just relax for me.” You reach out for Jungkook so he could help you get into the bath carefully. The fabric of your robe swirled around in the tub majestically, the rose petals splayed around your glowing figure. The candles bobbed softly around you, the set up made you feel expensive, luxurious, and sexy. You had to give it to Jungkook. He really had an eye for visual effect.
“I’m going to start okay?” He lifted the camera up to his face. He moved around you to find all of the best angles. Every once in a while, he’d give you instructions for the poses he wanted you in. After a couple of minutes, you begin to notice your husband's focus waning. Your gaze sweeps down his frame until your eyes land on his hardened member.
“Kookie, you’re hard.” You smile up at him innocently.
“How could I not be, Beautiful.” He walks up close to the tub. He reaches down to grab your chin with his thumb and forefinger. He pulls your face up to sear your lips in a passionate kiss.
“My baby girl is so sexy.” He bites harshly onto your bottom lip. “Seeing you like this… with your swollen breast, and your beautiful baby bump.” His hand reached down into the water and settles on your tummy.
“Just, I don’t know… I…it makes me want you so damn much.”

My thoughts on the 1.7 update
(Spoilers! And my own opinion, you are free to disagree!!)
Overall I am absolutely thrilled!! I can’t wait for this update, Inazuma looks SO gorgeous!! Getting to meet the new characters and see all of the new landscapes/enemies/puzzles will be so fun!!
I’m glad that the Inazuma release is in 2 parts. Not only that, but the Sacred Sakura prevents us from exploring everything at one time. This way we can take our time and not really have to worry about speed runners spoiling everything the second the islands are released!!
The areas I’m most excited about are the shrine at the Sacred Sakura cause oh my gosh it’s gorgeous!! I also can’t wait to meet the Shiba inu running the tea house, I can’t remember the name of the tea house but it looks so pretty!! Lastly, the big building in Inazuma City, the shogun’s palace? Is that what it is? Idk, it’s where Baal lives(maybe??) and it looks like it’ll be so cool to explore!
I cant complain about any part of the map yet since I haven’t seen it. Right now, I only have positive opinions on Inazuma as a region
Moving onto the characters so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I yoinked these images off of Google so idk the source, sorry!
Gouru: I think his design is interesting, I enjoy his color palette! He’s nice to look at. I like the fact that he’s a Geo bow user but…Im disappointment that there are so many bow characters being released at once :( They’re just so hard to use on mobile and though I’ve forced myself to suck it up for Venti and Childe, I wish we’d get more catalysts and claymores instead of archers UGH lmao
Tohma: I am SO looking forward to Tohma’s release!! He seems like a fun guy! I don’t know much about him other than the fact that he’s Ayaka’s fiancé but hey!! Apparently we’re gonna meet him sooner than I thought we would!!
Yae: I absolutely adore her design. She breaks the “Hydro = blue clothes” “Electro = purple clothes” color palette trend. While there are exceptions like Beidou and Kazuha right now, most characters share color schemes with their vision. So seeing Yae with her pretty pink hair and red clothes while wielding an electro vision just makes me happy!! I’ll definitely be pulling for her
Sara: As much as I want to like her, I just can’t. At least not yet, maybe I’ll change my mind once we get to meet her and learn about her personality! There’s just too much about her that I don’t like. First off, I think she is bland. Mihoyo low key does a not so good job of designing women. Amber, Eula and Jean all suffer from bland outfit syndrome. Sara suffers from bland hair and face syndrome. Even her outfit could have been more detailed. And in addition to that, she’s another archer. So yeah…If she’s a 4 star, I know I’ll get her at some point but if she’s a 5 star, she’ll be a banner I skip
Shogun/Baal: Oh miss electro archon….Mihoyo did you so dirty. I’m sorry, she’s the goddess of electro and she looks like any other civilian. I was expecting something more grand for our first female archon release. I was hoping she would have more detail in her clothes, maybe extra hair accessories or thigh highs that aren’t one solid color? I don’t know, I just had high expectations! Am I being too judgmental? Possibly. But looking at characters we already have or have met, she doesn’t give the ‘wow’ factor I thought she would. Will I pull for her though anyway? Of course
Kokomi: She WAS going to be Mimi I think! This is Mimi’s model in a different outfit! Names aside, she’s very pretty! I was iffy on her design when I saw the leaks but when I saw her on screen in the livestream today? I was sold on her!! However…She will be our third, you heard me THIRD hydro catalyst which is a HUUUGE bummer. Of course, we never saw her fight so her weapon could maybe change (please Mihoyo please please give her a polearm) but I doubt that will happen. So for that reason, I won’t be pulling for her. But I will admire her from afar *sigh*
Kazuha: He wasn’t included in the update since he’s…out right now but i thought I’d talk about him too. I think his character is super interesting!! But sadly I will be skipping his banner. I did one ten pull and got Keqing so I’m going to save my guaranteed for miss Yoimiya!!! I am looking forward to a Kazuha story quest for sure! I think his design is cool, I don’t have much to comment on other than….why did he get the same face as Aether…dude…
Yoimiya: My Queen. My love. I have 20 wishes saved for her already and now a guaranteed on the event banner. I am not a fan of archers but she is an exception for sure! Her design, her ult animation, her idle animation…She’s so cute and I NEED her!!! I can see it now, my built team with Yoimiya, Eula, Bennett and Keqing all together fighting samurai in Inazuma! Wowwww :’) I am biased because she’s my favorite of the confirmed characters but…We’re all allowed to be a little biased sometimes :)
Ayaka: Everyone is hyping her up!! I am not really on that train! I’m excited for her cause she’s an interesting character! Her animations look cool and her design is beautiful, I’ve thought that since the eaaaaaarly leaks!! I just personally don’t enjoy her play style enough to go wild and pull for her. Sorry!! But I am loyal to Kaeya. He’s the only cryo sword user for me 💕 that’s a joke
Sayu: Eh, I’m pretty neutral on her. I’m glad to have an Anemo claymore combo but I just don’t enjoy playing as kid characters, they’re too small!! I bet she’ll be great and I hope everyone who wants her will get her!! I just won’t be jumping for joy when I inevitable pull her from Yoimiya’s banner
One more gripe, notice how we still don’t have Dendro characters?? I am desperate for Baizhu. Where is he? :( I need him >:)
In addition to my thoughts on the characters I might have an unpopular opinion reguarding the standard banner. It’s time for an update. Here’s who I think should be on the standard banner reboot if we get one:
- Albedo (takes Keqing’s place)
- Qiqi (stays since she’s a healer)
- Kokomi (takes Mona’s place)
- Eula (takes Diluc’s place) or Ayaka(?)
- Jean (stays unless Sara is a 5 star)
And I have my reasons too. Albedo is popular and would make people pull from the standard banner. Qiqi’s gotta stay since she’s a healer and we need character model diversity in the standard lineup. Kokomi is another hydro catalyst so she can easily replace Mona I guess. Eula wasn’t that popular and could be redeemed by being on the standard banner so people can get her cons, Ayaka could also go on this banner due to her popularity? So after her banner, she can just be plopped on the standard to draw people in. And I can’t think of a replacement for Jean UNLESS Sara is a 5 star, which I doubt she will be. Sara screams ‘standard banner character’.
Finally, I’m stoked about the PlayStation thingy!! We can login on PlayStation now!! Yay!! Exclusive wings, here I come >:)

--
Pearl stood in line at the Buddwick Public Library alongside many other parents and parental figures like her, waiting as a bearded, glasses-wearing Japanese-American man signed books at a table.
"Hey, you wouldn't happen to not be from around here, right?" a single dad standing behind Pearl asked her.
"Well, technically yes," Pearl informed the father. "I come from a planet of beings similar to myself who are all based around gemstones, which explains my appearance. Also, just last week I helped save your world from a sociopathic revolutionary, so you're welcome."
"You foreigners say the craziest things!" the father giggled in disbelief of Pearl, who just groaned flatly as the line began to pick up.
Eventually, Pearl was at the front of the line and now face to face with childcare author George Ikari, who had his fingers clasped together as he gazed at Pearl.
"Let me guess, you are here because of your own son, daughter, or whatever pronouns your child prefers to be dubbed?" George asked Pearl while he took out another copy of his book, titled "When Your Child Wants Time Apart", to sign for the Gem.
"Well, he's not really my son, but Steven is the closest thing my team, the Crystal Gems, have to one after his mother died giving birth to him." Pearl explained as George got to signing. "And that's not even getting into the fact that his mother was a former despotic alien conqueror who grew tired of her life and the constant neglect from her fellow despots, so she faked her death because of how much she valued your planet as part of a big war, then thousands of years later she met a rock star and fell in love with him before they consummated their relationship and she gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven."
George just stared in shock at Pearl's tale before she tried to continue. "And just last week, there was this other Gem with a vendetta against Steven's mother who tried to destroy the planet and kill us a-"
"Stop." George commanded Pearl with a raise of his hand before handing over the signed book. "Just take the book and leave. Your tales are holding up the line."
"What did I tell ya, foreigners say the craziest things!" the single father from before laughed.
"I'm deeply sorry Mr. Ikari, it's just that Steven has been going through some rough times lately." Pearl apologized to the author.
"I completely understand miss." George said while pulling out his phone to show Pearl a picture of his own son, a young man with scruffy brown hair, a white dress shirt, and a nervous expression on his face. "My son Shane has had his fair share of troubles ever since his mother died, troubles that he insisted on running away from rather than facing them maturely."
"Just like Steven." Pearl compared the two boys sympathetically. "I am deeply sorry for your loss sir."
"Thank you for your kindness." George smiled, putting away his phone. "The best thing I feel could work for a situation like this is to let things play out and discuss his problems when the time is right."
"Thank you very much George." Pearl thanked the author as she finally began to leave the library with her new book in hand. "Though I doubt that'll be of any use to Steven."
--
Not too far away from the library, Steven was sitting in his room talking to Connie on the phone while she was on her study break.
"Wow Connie, looks like you got all this college stuff figured out." Steven laughed with his dear human friend over his phone.
"I've got a whole plan figured out for early admission into the University of Jayhawk, but I'm still not sure about my major," Connie explained to Steven. "Maybe I should major in political science and minor in sociology, or perhaps the other way around."
"Did all our galactic adventures together get you interested in politics?" Steven asked.
"Maybe." Connie chuckled. "But I'm thinking more down to earth, as far as long-term careers go." As the two laughed at Connie's pun, the timer on her phone began to go off. "Wow, fifteen minutes went by pretty fast."
"Aw man, these study breaks are too short." Steven complained before he realized something. "Hey wait, you left a brochure at my place last time." He stated, pulling out a brochure for Connie's college of choice to show her. "You want it back?"
"It's alright Steven, I still have two more, and the Internet too." Connie answered smiling.
"Oh, right." Steven realized. "Well, call me when you still wanna hang out, okay?"
"You know I will, silly!" Connie beamed. "Okay, for real now, bye!"
After Connie ended the call, Steven turned over on his back and gazed at the brochure in his hands. "The University of Jayhawk, huh?" he muttered to himself. "And how far is that from here?" Steven then opened up the brochure to learn how far the distance between Beach City and the university's location in Kansas was. "Oh, that far."
Once again, Steven began to glow pink as he sadly sank into his bed, fretting over how little often he'd be able to see Connie regularly. Gazing at his rose-colored hand, he then started pondering on whether he should do something about this new condition, as he had been thinking about since the titanic battle with Black Rutile.
--
Soon, Steven had decided to get up off his bed and walk downstairs, to which he found Garnet standing in the living room dressed in a hat and kerchief. "Oh Garnet, you're still here?"
"Steven." Garnet greeted Steven tersely.
"I could really use your advice right now." Steven declared racing over to the fusion. "It's about-"
"Not right now Steven, I gotta split." Garnet cut Steven off before un-fusing into Ruby and Sapphire.
"I'm terribly sorry Steven, but I'm running late for my lecture on alternate timelines." Sapphire apologized while taking off the scoutmaster's hat and giving it to Ruby, along with a kiss on the cheek, before racing off to her lecture. "See you soon!"
"Sapphire might be going, but you still got good ol' Ruby to talk to." Ruby said to Steven as she went to fetch a backpack. "Let's walk and talk scout, I got things to do."
"Oh, okay." Steven agreed as he followed Ruby to the Warp Pad, and the two set off.
--
Later that day, Steven had joined Ruby's class, consisting of Onion, Zebra Jasper, and Little Larimar, as they strolled through the woods on a gorgeous afternoon. When the class got to a good stopping point near a stump, Ruby hopped up on the stump to speak. "Okay everyone, you remember what we learned last week, right?" she asked her students. "Well, today is the day! Brace yourselves, 'cause today we're sketching nature and the animals around us!"
Onion and his Gem classmates excitedly took out their notepads to draw on as Ruby continued. "Draw to your heart's content scouts!" Ruby declared. "Feel the beauty of everything around you, and you'll have the honor of receiving this Nature Sketching Badge!" She then presented a patch depicting a paint palette and brush in front of depictions of a wolf and a bird. "Got that? Now get to drawing!"
As soon as the three pupils left to go draw the beauty of nature around them, Ruby took it as her cue to jump down from the stump to talk with Steven. "So, what did you need Garnet for?"
"It's about Connie." Steven admitted to the small red Gem. "Every time I talk with her, I feel like she knows exactly what to do with her life, mostly thanks to her parents, and I don't. When we're together as Stevonnie, I feel so ready for anything, but on my own, I feel so lost. Just, what do I want with life?"
"That's tough Steven." Ruby declared sympathetically.
"Exactly!" Steven replied. "Connie is gonna go super far away for college, and I'm gonna be stuck here in Beach City where barely anything can go right for me nowadays and I don't know what to do about them! I want to be with Connie forever, like how you and Sapphire are basically together forever as Garnet!" That was when he came to a conclusion. "Wait, if I want to be together with Connie, then she's my future!"
Steven's revelation made Ruby super excited, and she began scuttling in place with stars in her eyes, her rapid footsteps creating a small fire beneath her feet. "STEVEN STEVEN STEVEN STEVEN STEVEN!" she cheered, but stopped short once she noticed the fire she created. "Oh my gosh, one sec!" Ruby quickly ran off and came back with a towel that she used to put it out. "Anyways, STEVEN, YOU GOTTA PROPOSE!"
"Wait, propose?!" Steven exclaimed in shock. "But, we're only teenagers, we can't get married yet! But then again…"
"Don't say you haven't thought of it!" Ruby added cheerfully. "Besides, aren't there couples in this country that get married at 18 or something?"
"Y-yeah, I thought of it." Steven began blushing, which he tried to hide within his jacket. "I mean, we just had this discussion."
"Well, what are you waiting for?!" Ruby yelled happily while jumping up and grabbing onto his head. "DO IT, DO IT, DO IT! DO IT LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!"
"Are you still really sure?" Steven asked the overly eager Gem. "As I said, Connie and I are still only teenagers."
"C'mon, we told you about how it worked for Sapphire and I." Ruby responded. "And if you're successful, you'll have the honor of receiving this!" She presented Steven with a badge depicting one figure popping the question to another. "The Proposal Badge! And if you're not so sure, well, seeing the future would be really helpful here."
Steven gasped, knowing just who Ruby was implying.
--
Far away from Ruby, Sapphire sat down with her class, made up of the Watermelon Tourmaline fusion, two of the Nephrites, Orange Spodumene, Cherry Quartz, and Angel Aura Quartz, while drawing lines in the sand with a stick.
"Okay class, let's begin our lesson." Sapphire announced to her students when she spotted Steven racing towards her with a big smile on his face. "Ah, Steven. I've been expecting you."
"Hi, Sapphire." Steven greeted Sapphire. "I'm sorry to interrupt your class, but I got big news! I've been thinking about my future with Connie lately, and a chat with Ruby convinced me that I should propose!"
"Wait, don't you have to wait until you're a grown-up to do that?" Cherry Quartz inquired with a raise of her hand.
"Let me guess, you're here because of my future vision?" Sapphire asked. "Let's run the numbers then." She then let Steven stand next to her before beginning to speak to her class. "Okay class, let's review what we've learned today." She began while drawing complex math equations in the sand. "Using the concepts we discussed so far, let us calculate the probability of Steven succeeding in asking Connie to marry him. Let's begin with the probability that she'll want to spend her life with someone, and then we'll multiply that by the differential factor in sociocultural marriage acceptance. Next, we multiply that by a possibly happy cohabitation, the factor of fear of engagement, the intensity of the love you share, and finally the robustness of your goals in life." As Sapphire finished her equation, she finally turned back to Steven. "Are you following so far, Steven?"
"Uh, maybe?" Steven answered as he stared at the equation Sapphire had jotted down for him in the sand, but it wasn't long before the ocean tides began to wash them away. "Oh no, your work!"
"And there we have it." Sapphire declared with a chuckle. "Don't you get it, Steven? My marriage to Ruby, our fusion as Garnet, it eluded my future vision for so long, defied the odds, and perhaps even changed the course of time itself!" she declared encouragingly. "We could just write equations in the sand all day, but then a wave of chance can come crashing in and wash everything away! Love is truly unquantifiable! Even with my gift of clairvoyance, I know far better than anyone that love can make the impossible possible! And that is why I say do it! Do it, Steven, just do it!"
"Yeah, you're right!" Steven began getting pumped up before turning to Sapphire's class. "Get one last good look at me, everyone, because after today you're gonna be calling me Steven Quartz Cutie Pie DeMayo Diamond Universe-Maheswaran!"
The class began cheering vibrantly, bringing a big smile to Steven's face as he finally realized what his future now held.
--
As the afternoon slowly began to give way to evening, Ruby and Sapphire reunited by rushing towards each other on the sand, excited about the big proposal.
"Steven told me first, and I led him to you!" Ruby cheered, spinning her little blue wife around by the waist.
"I told him to go for it!" Sapphire laughed. "Oh, it's going to be so wonderful!"
As the two fused back into Garnet, she stood still for a few moments, contemplating her components' decisions before coming to one of her own. "I take full responsibility for their actions." Just then, Garnet heard footsteps and found Pearl walking behind her, her pointy nose stuck in a book. "Pearl, I'm guessing you want to see me about the book you're reading."
"I was just thinking about calling up you and Amethyst," Pearl announced as her gaze turned from the pages to her leader. "Where's Steven?"
"Oh, nothing much," Garnet answered. "Just going to make a rash decision that'll emotionally damage him in the long run."
"Oh, that's ni-" Pearl began before she did a double-take. "WAIT, WHAT?!"
--
As for Steven, he was too busy getting ready for an evening with Connie without a care in the world, picking up a cake from Spacetries that said 'Together forever!' on it, buying some flowers from Crazy Lace Agate, lighting up the glow bracelet that brought him & Connie together to begin with and dressing up in some nice clothes. If all goes well, he would soon become Steven Quartz Cutie Pie DeMayo Diamond Universe-Maheswaran.
Meanwhile, at Connie's house, Connie kept on studying for the University of Jayhawk when she heard a roar coming from outside her window. Walking over to the window, she discovered Steven parked outside her home with Lion by his side.
"Evening Connie, how are you doing?" Steven asked his ladylove.
"Steven?" Connie replied. "What are you doing here, and why are you all dressed up like that?"
"You got a fifteen-minute study break in two minutes, right?" Steven inquired, gazing at his watch to check if his timing is correct.
"Whoa, spot-on!" Connie exclaimed, gazing at her phone to learn that he was indeed right. "So, what did you come here for?"
"You want to go for a walk with me?" Steven offered. "I'm sure you could use some fresh air."
"That's very sweet Steven." Connie smiled. "I'd really love to, but I-"
"Don't worry, we can take Lion, and then I'll bring you home in fifteen!" Steven declared with a thumbs up.
"Okay, let's do this!" Connie accepted the offer and left her room to meet Steven outside, taking a moment to tell her parents along the way. "Bye Mom and Dad, I'm spending my study break with Steven!"
Once Connie was out the door, she and Steven mounted on Lion's back and he ran away from the Maheswaran residence.
--
"Remember when we first met here?" Steven asked Connie as they dismounted from Lion and began walking down the beach.
"You mean when you tried riding a bike in the sand and then started running away screaming?" Connie replied with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I was trying to get your attention." Steven added.
"Last I remember, I was more focused on my book than your silly antics." Connie stated.
"Well, that all happened right here." Steven declared, gesturing to a picnic at the very spot where he and Connie first met all those years ago. "You like what I have here?"
"Steven!" Connie exclaimed in awe at the picnic set before them. "I don't know what to say! I also can't believe you still remember this exact spot!"
"I just remember it like it was yesterday!" Steven exclaimed just as eagerly before running over to a nearby rock to sit on.
"This is too cute." Connie squealed while blushing.
"And without further ado," Steven announced as he picked up a guitar to play while Connie sat down. "There's something very important that I'd like to tell you today." With that, he started strumming the guitar and began to sing. "I'd rather be tall, I'd rather be smart, I'd rather be sure you know I care." He sang for Connie. "Wherever you go, wherever you start, I'd rather be sure you know I'm there. I'd rather I always be a part of whatever you do. I'd rather be me, with you."
Although Connie was a little turned off by the deeper meaning of Steven's song, she chose to just keep those feelings hidden to not hurt Steven's while he continued singing. "Wherever we go, I already trust, I'd know what to do if it were us. I'd know what to say, I'd know how to be, I'd know your entire syllabus." Steven continued as the song reached its climax. "I can't think of any other thing in the world that I would rather do. If I could be, I'd rather be me with you."
"Oh Steven, that's so beautiful!" Connie applauded the love song. "If a little unsettling, but I'd rather not say it out loud because-" Steven then got down on one knee and presented him her old glow bracelet. "Huh?"
"Connie, will you marry me?" Steven popped the question at last.
"Come again?" Connie asked, completely taken off guard by such a proposal.
"Let's get married and live together as Stevonnie, just like Garnet!" Steven reiterated for his possible wife.
"Are you serious?" Connie chuckled at the marriage proposal. "I think we should talk about this first."
"You might think I'm being sentimental, but this makes sense!" Steven exclaimed. "I don't know what you'll be studying, but I'm sure Stevonnie will! We can go to Jayhawk together!"
"I really appreciate this little date, but come on! You're still young!" Connie said as she stood up. "And acting a little clingy, I might add." She added under her breath.
"What was that?" Steven asked Connie.
"Nothing!" Connie lied. "Like I said, we're still young. And even if some couples get married at like, eighteen, I don't think we're fit to be one of those."
"So, you don't want to be Stevonnie with me?" Steven asked despondently, but Connie was there to comfort him.
"Of course I'd want to be Stevonnie, but I'd like to be my own person too," Connie answered reassuringly. "You get that, right?"
"Yeah, but," Steven began while putting the bracelet away as Connie hugged him. "Is it a no?"
"I'd say it's not right now." Connie answered.
"But if we're going to spend our lives together, why didn't you say it now?" Steven kept on inquiring fretfully.
"We got plenty of time." Connie declared, moving on from hugging Steven to holding his hands. "Don't you worry."
"I'm not worried, honest." Steven tried correcting his best friend. "I'm just happy when I'm with you."
"I'm happy around you too." Connie replied. "It's just that-" Before Connie could finish, the alarm on her phone went off. "Oh snap, my alarm!" she yelped in realization while pulling her phone out. "Forget studying right now, I don't think it matters."
"But it does matter to you!" Steven yelled.
"And you're just as important!" Connie responded, beginning to notice Steven getting more stressed out.
"I'm fine, we can talk about it later." Steven began rapidly panting. "Look, Lion's still right there, you can go now."
"Are you sure Steven?" Connie wondered sympathetically. "You're looking a little on edge. Maybe I can hook you up with a good therapist. She's a good friend of my mom named Dr. Rebe-"
"I'm sure I'm fine." Steven cut Connie off. "Now go."
"Okay." Connie obliged before giving Steven a goodbye hug. "I'll call you again tomorrow at noon." She said before walking towards Lion to have him take her home.
"Have fun studying!" Steven continued putting up a happy front as he bid Connie farewell. But as soon as she was out of sight, that front completely fell. "Nobody I love ever wants to stay."
With that, Steven fell back-first to the sand and turned pink, the resulting impact ruining the nice picnic around him as he wallowed in a crater of his sadness, and stayed there for the rest of the day.
--
Many hours later, Steven kept on lying in the crater long into the night with tears in his eyes, and when he finally decided to get up, Garnet was there waiting for him with the picnic basket containing the cake still intact.
"I assume it didn't go well." Garnet theorized as she helped Steven up from the crater and began walking him home.
"I don't get it," Steven muttered cynically. "Ruby and Sapphire said I should go for it, and I did, but everything went wrong."
"I apologize on their behalf," Garnet stated. "You just can't trust love advice from hopeless romantics like those two."
"Then why didn't you stop me?" Steven asked the fusion.
"I couldn't see a future where you didn't try proposing to Connie," Garnet answered. "However, there were quite a few where after she said no, you forced her to fuse with you and subsequently went insane."
"Of course." Steven moaned. "Even in alternate timelines, nothing can ever go right for me."
"Don't be so hard on yourself." Garnet comforted her half-human ward with a hug to the side. "Your soulmate should be your complement, not a missing piece. Ruby and Sapphire may deeply love each other, but they still have their own thoughts, feelings, and lives." The pair soon reached the beach house and sat down on the steps together. "Whatever hole you have in your life Steven, I want you to know that Connie or Stevonnie might not fill it."
"It's just that you guys make it so easy!" Steven revealed as he took the basket from Garnet. "Can't believe I'm saying this, but it's kinda your fault for being so dang perfect!"
"I know you're upset Steven, and I take responsibility for your plight," Garnet apologized to Steven. "but blaming others as much as you blame yourself won't help."
"Then maybe shoving this adorable cake in my face will!" Steven declared as he opened the picnic basket to reveal that the cake was in pieces.
"It probably won't." Garnet deadpanned, but Steven didn't listen and started eating the broken cake anyways.
"Well, I'm still gonna do it!" Steven exclaimed, his mouth now full of cake.
"I know," Garnet added as she gazed up at the sky. However, what she didn't catch was a fly buzzing around her and Steven, and its green eyes started blinking.
--
"Ah, romance. So utterly futile." Black Rutile grimaced as she watched the live footage of Steven drowning his sorrows in cake through a hard light welding mask. "Still, all that trauma could be useful in the future."
As Black Rutile was spectating on Steven's pain, she was hard at work on her plans for revenge, using a blowtorch to put together the final touches on a special wrist-mounted device. Once she was done, the villainous Rutile aimed the device at a rock carved into the exact shape of White Diamond's gem and fired. The resulting blast destroyed the rock and left a massive cloud of ash where it once was, but she wasn't satisfied with the smattering of pebbles that once made up the rock.
"Hm, need to work on the disintegration aspect a bit more." Black Rutile pondered while retracting the welding mask into her visor and began going back to the drawing board.
--
Guess who's back? Back again? Black Rutile's back, she's no friend! And on that rather sad turned ominous note, we conclude the first chapter of Part 3. Now that we have Steven's romance issues out of the way, expect to see the following in the coming chapters, in no particular order.
Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl re-enact Ace Attorney while Steven becomes even more scarred for life.
Viva Los Diego! Lapis & Amethyst get involved with a James Bond parody, Garnet & Bismuth solve mysteries together with a police officer who's basically the Plumber from Ratchet and Clank, Pearl matches wits with a snooty film director who's like Michael Bay, David Cage, Neil Druckmann & Zack Snyder in one, and Peridot tries promoting her CPH reboot.
Steven hangs out with Spinel and plays basketball with Wolverine.
Peridot finally gets her own song.
Jasper finally gets her own song.
A certain Stevonnie-chasing jerk dares Steven to reform him.
And finally, Black Rutile plays a role in a certain event in Fragments, the final chapter of this part.
Have I gotten your interest yet? Good, cause strap in everyone, it's gonna be nuts.

Star Wars Visions Episode reviews (Spoiler Free)
Very nice color palette, very good coeorgaphy. It's inspirations are very clear and it's a very nice blending of the genres. What a great homage to old Ronin movies, such a great oremise for star wars [9/10]
Nice music, not too action heavy, but a nice self contained story [6/10]
Trigger?? What are you doing here?! Who said you could make better Star Wars than Disney?? Don't get me wrong it still falls into some of Triggers usually bad habits. But it's still damn entertaining. Especially the end [8/10]
Haha pretty ladies... oh no, the war...Oh NO not the pretty Lady! *Gasp* the other pretty lady!!! She's doing cool shit!! Yoo!! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!Someone give Kinema Citrus a Star Wars show rn. Their art style is gorgeous [10/10]
Production I.G. what are you doing here?!?! Who said you could make better Star Wars than Disney??! God, I.G.s budget and writing skill attached to SW is such a great combo. Such a well done episode. Great plot, amazing character design, wonderful action, such a well done blending of Star Wars and Anime. [10/10]
Yooo this is a sick art style!! Very cute. What a nice cute story about a professor and his robot son. Wait, what's this? why am I sad now?! [8/10]
Trigger!!! What are you doing here again?!! Is this where you put your A-Team?! this isn't your usual style, gosh this is lovely. I love the plot, the lore of this new world is fun. Character interactions are great. Weird to see an agreeable Padawan after so much of Anakin and Ahsoka. Sick as Hell action, I cannot get enough of these samurai Jedi/Sith, it's such a wonderful combination of asthetics, the choreography of a samurai lightsaber duel is so amazing [10/10]
Okay. If you watch just one episode of Visions, this has to be it. I don't know what it is, but this is the purist combination of Anime and Star Wars there is, it honestly just feels like if Star Wars had originated from Japan [11/10]
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!! YES!!!! It's anakin but told shorter, would have loved to have seen it resolved better but still a fun episode. [7/10]
In summary, this has been a wonderful project I am beyond happy with the results, of course my scores are completely arbitrary, I was looking for action, fun combos, and something new, I'm sure anyone else who watches these will slightly differ from me. And when I say watch the 8th episode, I mean it. Pirate it. Watch from a friend's account, I don't care. Just somehow yet your eyes on it.

Ways to watch Jekyll & Hyde online!
Tumblr media
I recently saw someone interested in watching Jekyll & Hyde, so I decided to spend some time today to put a post together!  Here’s information about (and links to) six productions of the show that you can watch online!
The 2001 Broadway Cast DVD
Tumblr media
Starring: David Hasselhoff (Jekyll / Hyde), Coleen Sexton (Lucy Harris), Andrea Rivette (Emma Carew)
(Starting with this one because this is the only non-bootleg, commercially available version of Jekyll & Hyde, and I’m sure this is the main version people are familiar with and I wanna go over this before getting to the rest.)
Good: It’s a beautifully filmed professional recording of the show on Broadway, something that most shows never get! The supporting cast (many of whom were from the original cast and played their roles from the beginning of the run to the end) is wonderful. When the focus is on the non-Jekyll aspects of the production, it’s really amazing. Coleen Sexton and Andrea Rivette are truly amazing.
Evil: David Hasselhoff. I give him props for taking on a very difficult role that is well outside of his comfort zone, and it’s clear to see that the man gave it his absolute all. He really wanted to take this on, and he really tried his best. (Here’s a four-minute interview about his experience with the show and the work he put into it - he had oxygen backstage, and he actually passed out onstage briefly after “The Way Back”.) However, watching him as Jekyll and Hyde, it’s just unavoidable that he’s just not very good. I’ll leave it at that.
How Can I Watch It?: It gets uploaded to Youtube and Dailymotion from time to time, but I couldn’t find it there today. However, you can watch it here, and a commercial for his time in J&H here. Just be warned: this is no day at the beach.
The 2001 Broadway Cast (rehearsal!)
Tumblr media
Starring: Rob Evan (Jekyll / Hyde), Coleen Sexton (Lucy Harris), Andrea Rivette (Emma Carew)
Good: If you were thinking “well, I wish that there was a professionally recorded version without David Hasselhoff”, This is basically, shot for shot, the same as the Hasselhoff version, but with Rob Evan instead, and it’s a fundamentally different experience. Rob Evan (who replaced Robert Cuccioli on Broadway in 1998) is a great actor and singer, who went on to play the role again in the “concert” versions in 2005 - 2006.
Evil: It’s 480p quality, but that’s the only real downside.
How Can I Watch It?: Right here!
The Original Broadway Cast (1997)
Tumblr media
Starring: Robert Cuccioli as Jekyll and Hyde, Linda Eder as Lucy Harris and Christiane Noll as Emma Carew.
Good: The original Broadway cast is amazing. This is a personal opinion on my part but Robert Cuccioli is the definitive Jekyll / Hyde. His Tony-nominated performance is awesome, and it really elevates the show. Linda Eder and Christiane Noll are also absolutely wonderful in their roles, and the talent in this cast is just amazing. Unlike the above two recordings, this one’s a bootleg, but it’s still a really great watching experience.
Evil: Really, the only possible downside is that this cast didn’t have a professional recording. Just press reels, a nice bootleg, and TV appearances. That’s really the only downside. This cast is awesome.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch 20 minutes of professionally shot press reels here (featuring several songs), you can watch the whole show with this cast here, and you can watch some TV appearances here: “In His Eyes” , “This Is The Moment” and “Dangerous Game” (featuring Rob Evan as Jekyll, who was the alternate for Cuccioli before taking over the role himself in 1998) Or if you’re short on time, just watch Cuccioli do “Confrontation” live.
But wait!  I want something different from the Broadway adaptation!
Well, Jekyll & Hyde went through a lot of changes on the road to Broadway, and after the show hit Broadway, many of productions changed things further or even changed things back to the earlier versions. The following productions all interpret the material differently, and all of them have script / music changes from the Broadway version. (Many of them stick closer to or take elements from the 1994 Concept Album with Anthony Warlow.)
The Pre-Broadway Tour (1995)
Tumblr media
Starring: Robert Cuccioli as Jekyll and Hyde, Linda Eder as Lucy Harris and Christiane Noll as Lisa Carew.
Good: Where Broadway is more subdued, the 95′ tour went for darker Victorian gothic horror / melodrama and I adore it. Much of the staging, sets and costumes are very different from the Broadway version. The script has some really impactful, chilling moments that were cut from the Broadway version.  It incorporates more of the popular ‘94 Gothic Musical Thriller album, with songs like Bring On The Men and Girls Of The Night included. (Lucy Meets Hyde is there and that’s something I want back in the show, dammit). And it’s got the same wonderful cast that went on to originate the role on Broadway. I really, really like this version and wish that the show had stayed a bit closer to this in parts.
Evil: The picture quality is not great and there’s not a lot of super close zooms, however it’s a bootleg of a really interesting time in the show’s history and I can get past it. Some people find some moments in the script overdramatic.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch the whole thing right here! You can also listen to some clips from the soundboard of the show, of Robert Cuccioli singing “Alive” and “Confrontation” here!
The Original Bremen Production (1999-2002)
Tumblr media
Starring (in this video): Darius Merstein-Macleod (Jekyll / Hyde), Maricel (Lucy Harris), Michaela Kovarikova (Lisa Carew)
Good:  The Bremen production was the first international production of Jekyll & Hyde, and they definitely do not copy the Broadway version exactly. They make interesting changes that I feel make the show stronger, and the design and the orchestra are absolutely gorgeous. They make some changes to the running order of things that I think make the beginning of the show flow so much better. The design choices are gorg (I LOVE the color palette of this production, oh my gosh) and the orchestra is absolutely stunning (though that’s best showcased on the 1999 album, one of my favorites to listen to.) Really, really interesting and awesome production.
Bad: None, really! This cast isn’t the original cast, if you’re hard pressed on that.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch the full show right here, and some professionally shot clips with the lead actor in this video. The same production design and direction all around was used for two more German productions in Vienna and Koln - you can watch the Vienna one here, starring Thomas Borchert, Maya Hakvoort and Eva Maria Marold. And about that 1999 album that’s one of my favorites to listen to... shhhh. SHHHh. Enjoy.
The 2013 Broadway Revival
Tumblr media
Starring: Constantine Maroulis as Jekyll / Hyde, Deborah Cox as Lucy Harris, and Teal Wicks as Emma Carew.
Good: This is the most recent major U.S production of Jekyll & Hyde. The singers are all excellent, and the scenic design has more of a “steampunk” edge to it, and they use projections in an interesting way, especially in “Confrontation”. They do relatively little to fundamentally change the currently licensed script, but all the songs are completely musically reworked in more of a pop-rock style, and there are bits that are reinstated from the concept album (Lucy Meets Hyde, Jekyll’s “It’s over now, I know inside” intro from “Confrontation”). It’s really interesting, the singers are actually fantastic, and I like some of the musical arrangements!
Evil: Objectively, none. This revival totally changed up the sound and look of the show, and those changes can be polarizing, but it’s really up to you whether or not you personally like it.
Where can I watch it?: Act 1 is here, and Act 2 is here! Here’s a tiny montage of some songs from the show as well!
Other Productions:
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to leave out a lot of other productions of the show that you can watch online, so here are two other interesting productions of the show I enjoy that you can watch online:
The 2014 Russian Production. The design is fabulous, the singers are great (the music is a nice mix of the classic orchestrations and the 2013 arrangements), and the set is absolutely amazing. Love this production. The set change from “Transformation” to “Alive” is AWESOME. Pick your poison: Ivan Ozhogin: Act 1 / Act 2, Kirill Gordeev: Act 1 / Act 2, or my underrated fave, Rostislav Koplakov: Act 1 / Act 2 .
This 2007 outdoor German production. Watch it right here! I haven’t watched this whole thing, but it starts during daytime and by the time the show ends it’s dark, which is really cool)
Whichever way you choose to watch Jekyll & Hyde, I really hope you enjoy the show! It’s one of my absolute favorites.
Also, if you want to listen to the show, you can listen to these albums on Youtube!
1990′ Concept Album

[ pay ] your muse paying for mine at a store , bar , restaurant , etc . ( you can specify where or for what . )
Scrooge was usually inclined to roll his eyes when Jacob invited him out drinking. He didn’t see the point in wasting money to sit in the company of loud strangers. He couldn’t imagine that he was the target patron for the sorts of places that Jacob liked to visit anyway, based on the stories that he told.
He couldn’t say what quite had persuaded him to join this time. It could have been the slight pleading tone in Jacob’s voice or the soft look in his eyes, or perhaps it was the way that his house always felt a bit emptier when they’d recently parted. But he agreed and the utter glee that lit up Jacob’s face was a reward in and of itself.
As they walked down the street, Scrooge tried to keep pace with his friend, who was chatting animately about the experience they were about to have. Scrooge’s typical inclination was to stride through this part of London as quickly as possible but, as he had already admitted to himself, this was not a day for the usual.
He reminded himself to acknowledge Jacob’s words and nodded as he spoke, though he didn’t quite catch all the names being rattled off. The summer evening glow lit his face perfectly, and Scrooge hoped that his friend didn’t notice the way that he must have been gaping at him.
When they came upon the pub, Jacob opened the door for him and Scrooge found the gesture, small as it was, to be oddly touching. He inclined slightly in a teasing bow but proceeded through, indeed meeting a wall of noise and odor beyond even what he’d expected.
Feeling entirely out of place, he proceeded to the bar and took a seat, cautious of any sticky residue that his hands might encounter. The air was thick and tasted of smoke and sweat and old beer.
“God, Ben, you act like this place will infect you.” Jacob cuffed his shoulder lightly and Scrooge’s chest fluttered.
“It very well might. I’m holding you accountable if I wind up ill.”
“Of course you will. Don’t worry, I’ll be there to hold your hair back if you end up retching.” Scrooge was unfortunately endeared to the thought of him doing just that, minus the retching and he hoped his face didn’t give too much away. The noise level was merciful in that it allowed them to talk freely and that was one clear positive.
“I suppose I’ll trust you to order for me,” he said, noticing that the barkeep was approaching. “Though I hope my trust isn’t misplaced.”
“Has it ever been?” Jacob winked. “Relax.”
“I’ll do my best.” Scrooge leaned back against his chair, against his better judgement.
Jacob plunked down two coins and made the order. Scrooge supposed it only made sense for Jacob to pay, since he’d invited him, but some buried knowledge suggested that Scrooge was meant to get the next round.
“I know it’s a little rowdy in here,” Jacob offered, “but it can be good for clearing your head.”
“I’d imagine you’re right. The din does seem to die off, the more you get used to it.”
Their pints arrived and following a polite clink of steins against each other, Scrooge took a tentative sip. It was rather bitter for his palette, but it went down easy all the same.
“It’s nothing fancy, to be sure,” Jacob, “But it gets the job done.”
Scrooge nodded. That it certainly did, as the warmth flooding his body could attest. Nearly as warm was the hand that suddenly occupied his thigh.
“Are you alright, Ben?” Jacob asked softly. “You’re awfully quiet.”
“Perfectly fine, just taking it all in.” He was telling the truth, for once.
“I know this isn’t really your scene, I didn’t really mean to drag you out. Well, I did, but not if you didn’t want to come.”
“No, no, I did—I do! I suppose I’m just a bit unused to the setting. I do tend to hole up in my cave, as you know.” He rather urgently hated the idea that he’d offended or disappointed Jacob somehow.
“You do, which is why you need to leave it every now and again.” Jacob was still frowning, but seemed more satisfied with that answer.
The crowd at the other end of the bar was starting up a drinking song, and Jacob squeezed his thigh in anticipation. “Do you know this one? I think I remember the words.”
“Yes, it sounds familiar.” Something about sea and ships and love lost. Scrooge had a decent enough voice, and muddled through most of the words, but found himself grinning as their voices met in harmony. He could hardly hear them amongst anyone else, of course, but somehow that didn’t matter. Before long, he found himself raising his mug in cheer along with everyone else, Jacob’s arm resting comfortably across his shoulders.
They burst into comfortable laughter as the song drew to a close, Scrooge lowering his mug to the counter with slightly more force than he intended.
“Careful,” Jacob teased, looking at him fondly. “I don’t want to have to replace it because you don’t know your own strength.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll make it certain that my true power is a mystery to everyone including me,” Scrooge grinned, feeling terribly foolish but it the best possible way.
Jacob squeezed his shoulder gently and before Scrooge knew it, his mug was full again.
“I didn’t realize you could sing like that,” Jacob nudged him. “You’ve been holding out on me.”
“I’m alright.” Scrooge grinned, flush with the compliment. “Sang in the choir for a few years at school.”
“No kidding? Why’d you stop?”
“Lost interest.” Scrooge replied tacitly, as if he’d practiced it. He’d long ago learned how to shut down those memories, lest he risk revealing them—revealing any weakness. “You’re not bad yourself. A benefit of your genteel upbringing?”
“Maybe.” Jacob laughed. “I’m just good like that.”
They enjoyed a comfortable silence as they sipped their pints.
“Thank you for, as you said, dragging me out tonight,” Scrooge offered softly. “Especially since I’ve turned down so many of your invitations before now.”
“I’m glad you came,” Jacob grinned. “I figured I’d crack your shell open eventually.”
“Does that make you an otter?” Scrooge teased, realizing as the words left his lips that they were not as clever as intended. “Prying open my shell?”
“That’s one way of putting it,” Jacob laughed, eyes sparkling. “Finish that up,” he tapped the side of the mug, “the night’s still young.”
Scrooge drained his glass obediently, finding himself much more pliant than usually.
“Sounds like you’ve got plans for me.” The corners of his mouth twitched, teasing another grin.
“Oh yes, devious, devious plans. Come on.”
In the same way he had done all night, Scrooge followed.
“It’s a lovely night, don’t you think?” Jacob asked as they emerged back into the night air, the smell of summer a pleasant shift.
“It is. Perhaps we should enjoy it awhile longer. A nice walk perhaps?”
“You read my mind. Anywhere in particular you’d like to go?”
“I’d be willing to explore. Your selections have been sound so far.”
They had a rather lovely walk through backstreets of London and Saint James’ park, even someone as blase as Scrooge couldn’t deny that the dusk was perfectly suited to it. Cooler, but still light enough to see easily. The sun was setting, painting the sky in all sorts of love purples and oranges, a rather lovely canvas if he was to be honest.
They chatted idly, comfortably; Scrooge remarking on gorgeous carriage horses and stubborn birds near under his feet, Jacob pointing out places he liked to frequent and new businesses in the area. Scrooge found himself paying surprisingly little attention to the particulars of their route, not counting his steps nor the streets.
He found himself doubly surprised, than, that they had stopped in front of a confectionery.
“What are we doing here, Jacob?” He asked, not feeling particularly motivated to combine two different vices today.
“I know you’re categorically opposed to enjoying yourself, but it’s perfect weather for ice cream. Come on, it’ll be my treat.”
Against his increasingly weak objections, Scrooge allowed himself to be led into the shop.
His eyes raked across small mountains of sugar, colorful and lacy like fine dresses. All so excessive and unnecessary and worst of all, expensive. But they did smell wonderful, if a bit overpowering.
“Gosh, Ben, you look like you’re about to start drooling. What looks good to you?” Jacob asked, the shop owner also looking at him inquisitively
“I’ll take the orange blossom, thanks,” he replied, feeling somewhat caught out. Jacob placed his own order and paid before making some commentary on the shop’s other offerings. “I’ve been wanting to come here with you,” he added, as he handed Scrooge the dessert, “and what day could possibly be better?”
“I certainly can’t argue,” Scrooge replied as he took a seat at the mercifully clean-looking table, “I’m glad you thought of it.”
And he was. The ice cream was unfortunately rather delicious and Jacob’s company was always superb.
“Want to try some of mine?” Jacob asked, holding the spoon up to Scrooge’s lips. It was honestly troubling how willing he was to be lead today, but he supposed it was just the way of things. Jacob hadn’t steered him wrong yet. Without hesitation, Scrooge swallowed obediently
“Mmmmm.” If his defenses weren’t already lowered, he’d have been ashamed to make such an undeniable sound of please
“Yes, that’s about what I’d hope to hear,” Jacob replied and Scrooge pinked faintly before offering his friend some of his own.
When they finally emerged from their decadence, the sky had grown much darker, just past dusky. They watched a flight of bats take off as they weaved their way back through the park, Scrooge chancing at holding Jacob’s hand in the inky dark. An effort, he found, that was returned enthusiastically.
Before long—far too soon, in fact—they were outside Scrooge’s door and he felt a sudden ache of disappointment. Childish for sure, the stubborn urge to not let the fun end.
“Thank you for a lovely evening,” Scrooge began, and in the safety of his dark street not yet lit by gas-lamps, he felt Jacob’s lips pushing urgently against his own. Full and soft and heavenly as they had been every time before, but now somehow more tender. More gentle. Perhaps that was simply Scrooge’s own fancy. He fumbled to return the kiss, feeling an unpleasant surge of neediness when Jacob finally pulled away.
“Goodnight, Ebenezer,” He nodded with a smirk in his voice, leaving Scrooge with one hand loosely on his doorknob and the taste of sweetness on his lips.

~
[2:42 pm]
You were his safety. His peace. And that’s why he refused to let you go.
You were a rainbow, and they were all colorblind. But not him. Never him; to him, you were all the colors of the spectrum and more, so much more, so much more that he simply couldn’t contain it all in his fragile, broken body.
So he painted. That’s how he’d gotten his start as an artist.
He painted religiously. Each day was something new, something vibrant, something alive, bursting with color and warmth and emotion; so many emotions. Some days were painful; others were like a breath of fresh air. But he didn’t care if it hurt. He didn’t mind that it was slowly consuming his sanity, filling up every square inch of canvas in his mind. Like a moth to a flame, he’d do it all over in a heartbeat. Like a sailor to a siren at sea, he’d keep coming back for more, over and over and over again.
And on days he’d lost sight of that focus, on nights he couldn’t sleep, his body wracked with pain from the debilitating illness that the clerics still had yet to find a cure for, he’d draw the person he wished he could be.
He was strong, and handsome, and focused. He wasn’t sick; he was healthy, and determined and dedicated and sophisticated. He was loyal and brave and loving and so charismatic, so charming, there was no way you couldn’t notice him. He was your world; just like you were his.
Even if it wasn’t real. Even if he had to paint it himself.
It was all he wanted. It was all he had.
And for now, it was enough.
“Chenle~ I’m heading out now!”
Chenle blinked to life, waking himself back into reality. Reluctantly.
He smiled to the woman walking into the room, her wine red dress skirts swaying with each step she took towards her precious baby boy. Her one and only son, now that his older brother had gone off to enlist in the war effort.
“Okay, Mom.”
She sighed, resting a hand on her wrinkled cheek as she examined his most recent masterpiece. He was painting that girl; again. “Are you sure you’re going to be alright by yourself? Don’t forget you have that meeting with the Duchess today at five p.m.”
He sighed back as she ran her free hand through his messy orange hair, stained that way from all the many late nights painting to his heart's content. The room was never clean when he was hit with inspiration, and nothing was spared; not even his hair. His fingers were often so blue, the rivets embedded in murky varnish, the other villagers thought they were broken.
...That wasn’t far from the truth, but it was still a misconception all the same.
“I know. I’ll be fine. Take care on your trip.”
His mother smiled once more, placing a gentle kiss upon his forehead. “I will, dear. You take care of yourself as well. Don’t stay up too late with...erm…”
“Emin.” He smiled much more brightly. “Her name is Emin.”
“...Yes...Emin.” She frowned, her shoulders sagging a bit. This wasn’t the first time he’d locked himself into his own false realities...he’d be gone for at least a few days.
But that was fine. He may not have much longer to live anyway; it was the least she could do but to play along with his delusional fantasies.
“Just remember to get yourself cleaned up before you present yourself at the palace. And don’t be late!”
“I won’t. Goodbye, Mother.”
“Goodbye, sweetheart.”
Cha-chunk.
“......”
The moment she’d left the small cottage, a sigh of relief escaped him, and he tilted his head back to face the sky...or rather, the low-hanging splintering wood ceilings.
All he wanted to do was paint and get lost in you. But he’d better start getting ready.
He was scrubbing away the residue of last night’s oil pastels from beneath his fingernails when the image of you popped up in the window through the small broken looking glass of the washroom. He was sure he must be imagining things; after all, the visions of you had been quite strong lately.
Except this time he wasn’t hallucinating. It really was you.
“Chenle!”
“GAH!”
He flinched, dropping the small scrub brush in a state of panic, then whirled around to see you.
Your bright (e/c) eyes. Those rosy cheeks. That gorgeous hair.
He desperately wanted to melt into it, to mix his palette with yours. But he feared the result would be muddy...an unwanted color. He couldn’t risk tainting such beauty with his filth. “E-Emin...I mean, (y/n)...” Gosh, even just saying your name on his tongue was an indescribable joy. “(Y/n)...what are you doing here?”
You crinkled your nose the way you did when you knew something wasn’t right, and Chenle beamed, taking in your every small act of expression. “First tell me who on Earth this Emin fellow is. Do they bear such resemblance to me?”
“...” He nodded after a moment, sheepishly trying to hide the heat rising to his cheeks, but failed miserably. “It’s the name of my newest painting--”
“Oh my gosh!” You lit up brighter than the festival lights during the Fall Harvest, your head bobbing up and down giddily from the small space of a window. “You’re done already?! I wanna see I wanna see I wanna see! ...Please?”
You gave him your greatest puppy pout, the one he couldn’t resist. But you didn’t have to. Because eventually he would have caved anyway.
He picked up the brush off the ground, wishing he would have had more time to make himself presentable for you. Even if the two of you had been friends for a few years now, he still wanted to look his best for you...oh, but who was he kidding, really? It’s not like someone of your stature, the Baroness of Adderdale, would ever fall for a paint-stained dirt-scratcher like him...especially not one that probably only had a few months left to live. “Of course. I’ll open the door for you.”
“Oh, no, that’s okay! I know you have a big meeting with Duchess Rowena soon, I’ll just--”
“Nonsense. You’re way more important.”
The words were out there before he could take them back. But he wouldn’t have wanted to anyway, because it was nothing short of the truth. “Uh…” You nodded back to him, your face half-swallowed by the high-standing square hole in the wall, your eyes peeking just over the edge now as you climbed down from the crates you’d been standing on. “Okay, then. I’ll see you in a minute.”
Chenle opened the door for you not but a minute later, right on schedule, and you smiled now that you were able to see him up close.
There was a smear of green paint on his cheek. You pulled out a handkerchief from your dress pocket, fanning it open in one quick flick of the wrist and tenderly reached up to wipe his face clean.
You almost suspected that you missed a few spots from how red his face turned, his whole body tensing, eyes barely peeking out shyly behind closed lids. He’d always been such a bashful, apprehensive young man. But that was one of the many things you loved about him.
If only he knew. Maybe things could have gone differently than how they eventually would come to play out.
You’d just starting to retract your gesture when he stopped you, taking your hand gently in his and holding it against his cheek. Nuzzling his face against the silk fabric of your glove.
You laughed. “What are you, a cat?”
He murmured back a soft reply. “I wish I were, sometimes...maybe then I could focus on the things I really care about.”
This made you frown. “Like what?”
“Like...painting, and watching the sea reach out to the sky, and taking naps all day, and...you.”
“Chenle…”
“Hm?”
“How would you paint? You wouldn’t have thumbs.”
He gave you a playful smirk. “No, but it’d have a tail. I’d never have use for another brush again.”
“How would you sign your work?”
He held up his hand. “Paw print.”
“How is that any different from any old stray cat off the street?”
“Hmm…” He gave it some serious thought, making you smile from ear to ear. “...Oh!” He released your hand, resting a fist in his open palm in an action stating he’d thought of something. “...Two paw prints?”
“Chenle!” You busted out laughing, and it’s got to be one of the most blessed sounds he’d ever had the pleasure, no, the honor of being alive to hear; he felt faint upon hearing it, yet stronger all the same. It’s the sound that gave him strength and security when he needed it most, on nights when he thought the sickness that plagued his brittle bones really would deliver his soul to Heaven. The moment he remembered your voice...even if it was all in his feeble mind...all was well again.
“Are you going to invite me inside? It’s mighty hot out here in the sun.”
“Oh!” He hurriedly stepped aside, taking your hand to help you up the small step into the tiny aged cottage that had to be at least sixty years old. “Sorry…”
“Don’t apologize. I’m used to you spacing out in the middle of a conversation by now.” You poked his nose, sending a charming smile his way that may as well have taken his heart had he not already given it to you. “I think it’s cute.”
The wink you sent him was the nail in the coffin.
“Ahh!” Your eyes caught sight of his studio set up in the far left corner of the room, and you lifted your skirts to dash your heel-clad feet across the splintering floorboards. The moment you got there your hands gripped the drape over the center canvas, but you remembered last minute it’s probably polite to ask first, even if it was a dear friend of yours.
Normally Chenle would have murdered anyone who dared to disturb his art without permission; but you were the lone exception. He could never bring himself to hurt you. “Go ahead.”
Excitedly you casted the veil away, and when your eyes met the girl in the painting you froze.
Because she was you. You were looking at a reflection of yourself.
Except you were way more beautiful than you ever imagined you could be. Why didn’t you look this good in real life?!
“Chenle...it’s…”
“Do you like it?” His eyes were full of excitement and adoration as he gazed upon the you in the painting. “Her name is Emin.”
“Emin…” You repeated the name like a foreign word. “...She…”
You paused for a considerable amount of time, just staring curiously at the work of art. Of course this wasn’t you; it was too beautiful to be. How could you be so vain as to think…?
You sighed, small and subtle beneath your breath. “...She’s beautiful.”
“Just like you.”
“Wh-What?”
When your eyes turned away from the fantasy version of you, they met the artist responsible, staring at you as if it was you who hung the moon in the sky each night. “She looks just like you. Beautiful.”
You couldn’t help the warm feeling spreading over your cheeks; you casted your gaze away before Chenle too could notice.
It was too late, of course, because he already had. It made him so happy to see you flustered and flattered so; he’d have to add it to his list of future Emin’s.
You were his after all.
At precisely four o’clock you left Chenle to finish getting ready, though he was sad to see you go. It was a vision he never wished to see; you disappearing out of sight. What if he never saw you again…? You were always so busy with your responsibilities as Baroness of the state. And it was all his fault.
He shouldn’t have asked to paint your portrait out in the grassy fields beyond town square. Maybe then you wouldn’t have been discovered by those royal administrators, who were so captivated by your charming appearance (as they should have been) that they scooped you up and swept you off to the palace to be trained, paying off your family to buy you as their newest errand girl. Because that’s basically what you were in your role of Baroness; the only difference was that they actually fed and clothed and educated you properly in the art of sophistication and foreign affairs and how to be a proper lady.
It made him sick how they ran you ragged. Sicker than he already felt with this accursed illness he was born with.
Which is why he hadn’t hesitated to pay off a young chef-in-training to poison the roast duck going to the administrator’s office one evening whilst sneaking around the back gardens. Your life became a bit easier after that, and the two of you at least had more time to see each other...until they hired another administrator.
But it was alright. The young man was fresh off the boat from vocation school. He’d hired some local bandits to give the man a good scare, and ever since that day you’d had Tuesday afternoons and Saturday evenings free. Sundays after spiritual services were always a given, thank Heaven.
It was now four-thirty. He’d carefully gathered his materials and was on his way to the palace, bag in hand. He wore his best suit: a brown sewn vest over a cream-colored button-up shirt and long, plain-colored trousers. His orange hair was groomed to look as good as it would ever be.
He had to get this job. It was for himself, for his mother; with his brother out of the house, they had scarcely been able to pay the bills, and the new royal tax document was expected to be passed within the next coming weeks. He was the only one left to take care of her.
And then there was you. He would have done anything for you. If he did manage to land this position, he’d be able to see you more often; even if it was just a few fleeting glimpses from a studio window.
By the time he made it onto the palace grounds, chefs and gardeners scurried about in preparation for a celebratory occasion of some sort. He wondered what it could be…
Until a flyer smacked him right in the face, temporarily blinding him.
Startled, he took a few steps back, ripping the inked parchment away from his face. His eyes scanned the page curiously.
𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑱𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒐𝒓𝒘𝒊𝒄𝒉, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒂 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔
Chenle scoffed. Like he cared about the affairs of the royal elite or the country...
None of that mattered unless it involved you.
“So,” Duchess Rowena Varner, next in line for the royal throne, declared. “You must be Chenle...Zhong, is it? Zhong Chenle?”
The said boy grinned politely from before her throne of sorts. A placeholder until she got her greedy hands on the real thing. “Yes, madam.”
“You shall address her as My Lady!” a royal guard barked.
The Duchess shook her head, chuckling a bit as she waved him off. “Now, now, it’s quite alright. Please, call me whatever you like. And might I say, what a handsome young boy you are!” She stood and paced over to the works of art displayed on silver easels. Real silver. Just an ounce of that would be enough to pay the house bills for an entire month, with a bit left to spare for a royal feast. “Quite talented as well. I reviewed your work the other day.” She smiled, stopping beside his most recent portrait of you: Emin No. 54. His most brilliant work of art to date. “This portrait titled “Emin” is especially beautiful.”
He remained smiling in return, pride swelling in his chest. “Yes, I think so as well.”
Her next question caught him off guard.
“Is she by chance, a lover of yours?”
He froze. His face grew hot; hotter than the sun, it had to be. The Duchess tittered, finding amusement at seeing a young boy turn so red.
“So she is, then? That’s quite sweet. I’m happy for you, I am.”
“...N-Not...Not exactly…”
“Oh, come now. It’s alright. But you know…” she pondered, reexamining the painting. “She looks rather familiar...like I’ve seen her somewhere before…”
“I think it’s ugly.”
Duchess Rowena gasped, and all eyes quickly turned to her daughter, the royal Viscountess.
“Nina!!” The Duchess scolded. “That’s very impolite! Apologize this instant. That’s not how a lady should speak.”
Nina huffed, tossing a long pigtail over her shoulder. “Well it’s true. Her nose is too big. And the eyes sort of creep me out. I’d be turning tail and running if I saw this girl in my dreams or out on the streets. More like my nightmares…”
The Duchess’ face was far worse than a frown, and she snapped her fan shut to emphasize her anger and disappointment, scowling down at her daughter’s abhorred behavior. “Oh, Nina…!” She turned her gaze down to the ridiculed artist with sorrow in her eyes. “I’m so sorry for my daughter. I don’t know what’s gotten into her. She’s usually very sweet and polite, I assure you.”
“......” Chenle didn’t know what to say. All he knew in that moment was that he couldn’t stop his hands from trembling, and it felt like he’d been stabbed in the heart-- no, that someone had stabbed Emin in the heart.
You. His Emin. The only thing he loved more than anything else in this world. More than his mother, or his brother, or his art supplies, or the beauty he found in every little thing this world has to offer…
The only reason he found such beauty was because of you. He saw you in everything. You were everywhere to him.
Something foreign and unabashed was painting a dark portrait on his insides…
And that portrait was titled The Death of Nina Varner.
He waited just after dusk for the Viscountess to appear on her balcony for her ritual spoiled stargazing event. Each night she would wander out in a silk nightgown onto the balcony outside her room, tossing grapes and cheese and whatever late night snack she could get her snot-nosed hands on into that vexatious piehole of hers, all while shouting orders at the pitiful maids who were stuck with her that evening to braid her hair or rearrange the furniture or stop breathing so heavily and get her some more wine.
Chenle almost felt bad for them. Almost.
But he was much too busy kindling the fires of hatred he had for the witch who dared to insult his precious Emin.
He waited five swift breaths for the maids to take their temporary leave, then made his strike.
It was swift. Quick. A cursory stab to the heart. But it did the trick all the same; she hadn’t even much time to scream in terror as her body slumped to the marble stone floor, lifeless and in vain with a look of pure trepidation on her face.
It scared him how much joy and excitement it brought him to see her that way. But he didn't have time to admire his crafty work; in one rapid, fluent motion, he scampered off down the secret passage he’d bought the blueprints for at the Black Market in the shady part of town, a harsh coughing fit echoing down the narrow hall as he fled.
The next day was meant to be spent orchestrating the Viscountess’s wedding as well as the arrival of Prince Jaemin. Which is why you were surprised to find that instead, that responsibility was no longer yours...and a new one was being passed down to you; or rather, promoted up to you.
“She what?!” you cried, horror-stricken in face. You could only imagine what the Duchess’s face must have looked like, to find her daughter’s dead body on the balcony floor. The maids almost had it worse, being the ones to discover the horrific display.
Even now you could hear Rowena’s cries and sobs as she mourned the murder of her only daughter. It broke your heart; the Duchess was such a sweet lady...a little greedy, yes, but still very kind. And sure, you never much cared for Nina. Everyone knew what an impish hellion she was, despite her mother insisting she was a good person...yet...you’d never once wished to see her drop dead.
...Okay, perhaps once, when she had shoved you into a closet and claimed that it was you who started a fire in the kitchen during a baking lesson, you did. But you hadn’t meant it literally…!
And now here you were, set to be crowned the new title of Viscountess. Set to be wed for the sake of the country to some prince whose name you scarcely remembered.
It was all too much. So sudden. So soon. You didn’t know if you could take it...you were barely managing to process it all after only half a cup of coffee; everything was passing you by the narrowest of margins.
You needed to talk to someone. Someone not on the inside. Someone you could trust. So the moment the royal guard who had delivered the news left your quarters, you ran off to find the one person you could think of, the first one to come to mind: Chenle.
He was waiting for you in the front garden, just as you’d ask a young pageboy to summon him there. His face was a desolate wasteland as it looked into yours. So he must have heard...news did travel fast.
“Chenle...I…” you sighed dejectedly. “I don’t know what to say. I never wanted this, I had no say, I promise I--”
“Don’t say anything.”
His eyes were a blazing fire when you gazed back up into them. It made you gulp nervously. “Wh-What do you mea--”
“Shhh...“
He was smiling then. Smiling...how could he smile at a time like this?
“I worked everything out. You don’t have to go to the funeral.”
“...What?”
“The funeral. For the late Viscountess. You don’t have to go, I thought of a way out of it...so we can spend time together instead.”
You stared at him, dumbfounded. So he really didn’t know, then…? “I’m sorry? Chenle--”
“Hush now, it’s going to be alright. I doubt anyone’s going to show up anyway.”
You gasped at that harsh remark. “Chenle! That’s a horrible thing to say! Even if she was a brat, she wasn’t...she didn’t deserve to…”
“Yes she did.”
...Your eyes snapped back to meet his, again, and this time they were devoid of any life. Vacant of all color.
He was serious. He really meant it.
You took a step back, suddenly feeling ill at ease and uncomfortable with the heavy change in atmosphere. “...How...How can you say that? How…”
The boy you thought you once knew shrugged, gazing off to the side nonchalantly. “Because...she insulted something that belongs to me.”
“That’s no reason to--!”
“She insulted you.”
The air left your lungs for a second. The pressure around you was rising. Did...Did he just say…?
Scowling, you furrowed your brow, crossing your arms before you to boot. “I-I’m not yours, Chenle. I don’t belong to you, or to anyone but the State of Adderdale...and, pretty soon, the Kingdom of Norwich…”
You felt your anger fleeing from you as feelings of anguish and anxiety rushed to take its place, leaving a hollow sensation of misery in its wake.
And it wasn’t just you. Chenle was feeling it as well, his face drooping until it sagged in an expression of crestfallen disbelief.
“What...What do you mean?” he asked. His whole attitude had suddenly changed in no less than a millisecond.
You glared back at him in regret that you had to be the one to tell him; but it was best coming from you. “With Nina gone, I’ve been recently appointed as the new Viscountess. And, furthermore…” You swallowed again, wishing you could take the words down as well. “...I am to marry the Prince of Norwich, in her place. I’m sorry, Chenle…” You sighed for the millionth time. “There’s nothing I can do. I have no say in any of this.”
You didn’t want to look at him in that moment, to see the sadness written all over his face. But you did. Because you had to be strong; especially if you’re going to be taking over as head Viscountess (though not for long...).
Chenle appeared as if he wasn’t feeling anything. Or maybe it’s that he didn’t know what to feel. In reality, he was absolutely, undeniably, without a doubt...melancholy. Hopeless. Lost. Completely despondent.
The same pageboy poked his head around the corner just then, shyly calling your name. You were being summoned to speak with the Queen about wedding invitations, and what kind of wine you would like served with the celebratory dinner.
There were no words that could form what you wished to express to your only real friend in that moment. So instead you said what it is you’d normally say after parting ways, had it been a regular, everyday encounter; and not the last.
“Goodbye, Chenle…”
And then you were gone. His worst nightmares coming true, seeing you vanish from sight.
He looked to the paintbrush in his hand. Broken just like his body. Just like his heart. He squeezed it tightly, as tightly as his frail bones would let him. Tighter, tighter, as if he could squeeze the entire past three minutes out of existence. Erasing all the words that were said, and starting over on a clean, blank canvas. But it didn’t work out that way; that’s not how life worked.
So instead he shut his eyes tightly, envisioning his happy place. The world where the two of you were always smiling, always laughing, always together, always, always…
...It was all his fault. Again. He was to blame for all of it; he was the reason you were rapidly fading from his life. His insecure actions had led to his own downfall.
He sighed, the breath fleeting like a dream deferred.
It was no longer enough.
Three whole days. Three whole days he laid there, his body writhing in pain and agony at the dull ache that seeped through his bones, violent coughs rattling his lungs and rib cage. His throat was sore, his eyes dehydrated from leaking out all the water left in his body. It was painful, certainly, but...it was nothing compared to the apparent horror blatantly staring him in the face  that soon, very soon, you would be gone. For good. Forever. And he’d never see you again...only in his dreams, were he lucky enough to obtain them.
A flyer drifted in from the window, once again bringing itself to cover his tear-stained face.
𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒔 (𝒀/𝒏) 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑱𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒐𝒓𝒘𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 // 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒔 (𝒀/𝒏) 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔-𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒕
A literal slap in the face. His hands shook violently as he tore the sheet into bite-sized pieces, seething with rage and despair that did nothing to help his coughing fit and overall health.
He turned his head to stare at his latest masterpiece, feeling color draining from the world around him, his walls crumbling and caving in.
You were no longer his Emin. You were no longer his.
He felt like he was losing his mind. “But...she’s mine,” he mumbled, reaching out a shaking hand to the you of his dreams. The one he stayed up for three days straight painting with all his heart and mind and soul, pouring out every last ounce of passion from his expiring fingertips stained forever blue, as was the life of an aspiring, tormented artist. “Emin is mine...she’s mine, she’s mine, she’s MINE!!”
In a flash of anger he knocked over a case of brush pens, then a few books, then his entire work desk. He began throwing canvases out the window, their blank slates an abhorred reminder mocking the bleak future he had to look forward to: a future without you.
“Emin...she’s...she...” Tears pooled in the corners of his eyes, where he thought he had none left. “She’s mine...E...min...she’s...”
Gone. You were gone, lost to him now, and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it.
...Or was there?
Hastily he reached to grab the flyer from before, then remembered it was in pieces all over the floor. He struggled for an hour putting it all back together, but once he had a mischievous grin found its way where originally no amusement could be found. A tiny, faint ray of hope amongst the coming darkness.
𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑱𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝒓𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 // 𝑨𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝟑𝒓𝒅
That was tomorrow. The Duchess must have convinced them to postpone the wedding for her daughter’s funeral. Which meant...
There was still time.
With not a moment to lose Chenle rushed through the bustling palace walls, each hall as lively as the next as staff from every category of service hustled and hurried and scampered about, preparing for the wedding of the century.
Prince Jaemin had just arrived not but a few hours prior, and with his disguise as an errand boy Chenle had gotten all the right information and knew exactly where to find him.
Now he was just hoping he could get there fast enough, before someone knocked into him and revealed his dire plan.
Looking left, then right, he continued to weave in and out of the crowded hallway until he made it to the far end of the hall, making a stealthy left turn. He made his way down the steps to the kitchens, climbing into a dumbwaiter when no one was looking and working his way up the rope, grunting profusely with each feeble tug and the occasional cough. The moment he made it to the fifth floor he released a tired breath all at once, making sure the coast was clear before exiting the small chamber and trotting on lightfoot down the surprisingly quiet hallway given all the commotion downstairs.
His next task was to locate which one of these blasted guest rooms belonged to the Norwich prince. He had yet to get that far…
Knock knock knock.
“Your Highness?”
He whirled around and tripped his way behind a potted plant, almost spilling the chloroform in his pocket. A door he’d passed some twenty-odd steps ago was opened from the inside by a butler with a peculiarly sour look on his face.
The maid outside smiled kindly. “Pardon me, but all our errand boys are busy at this time. Her Majesty the Queen would like to have a word with His Highness, if that’s alright.”
“...” The young butler turned back into the room. “Yo, Jaemin. The old lady wants to talk to you.”
There was a hissing sound, followed by heavy footsteps before the boy was suddenly yanked back by his collar, a tall, handsomely dressed one taking his place instead. “Please forgive my idiot brother. He’s...a rare case.”
Mumbling could be heard in the background as the maid turned the whitest shade of pale Chenle had ever seen, bowing and apologizing profusely for not recognizing the youngest prince. In her defense, Chenle hadn’t of known either.
But that was besides the fact. His real target was now standing just a few feet away.
He hated how attractive he was. How he radiated an aura of regal perfection. It turned his insides into a dark, muddy green…
Somehow Jaemin had convinced the idiot brother with a smart mouth to take his place in seeing the Queen as a form of punishment (and to apologize for referring to her as an “old lady,” even if the hag was ancient beyond her years) and just before the door closed and the two witnesses had vanished around the corner, he made his move, dashing quickly and shoving his way--
...Right into the door. Thud.
He winced, praying to God his nose wasn’t broken just now. He should have known this guy probably lifted weights on a daily basis, where the only thing he ever lifted was a paintbrush.
He knocked, a hand still over his aching nose.
The moment the door opened he braced himself, whipping out the chloroform that...leaked in his pocket…
The last thing he remembered was the repeating curse he irately flung at himself: Drat, drat, drat…
When he awoke some twenty minutes later, the first thing Chenle noticed was a handsome young man sitting at his bedside.
Great. He was having another nightmare.
But the young man’s nervous laughter proved that he was, in fact, awake, not dreaming.
“There have been far better applicated attempts on my life than the one you just tried to pull.”
The pauper took a deep breath, coughing on the exhale as he threw himself up into a sitting position, then on his knees, knife in hand.
He furrowed his brow a second later; why had the prince not disarmed him…?
Prince Jaemin merely smiled as bright and cleanly as sunshine on a crisp, cool day with the knife hanging inches away from his throat. He didn’t even budge.
Chenle scowled. “Why aren’t you frightened of me? Why didn’t you disarm me while I was unconscious? ...Why did you help me at all? Why not report me to the guard, or the executioner, or--”
“Executioner? My, what troublesome times these must be if you’re sentenced to execution for a simple act of violence.”
A simple act of…?
Chenle didn’t know whether to be confused or appalled. So he was both.
The look on his face must have been quite the spectacle, because the next moment Jaemin was chuckling kindly, as if they’d been having a basic conversation about the weather. “You sure do ask a lot of questions, I’ll give you that. As I mentioned before, you’re not the first poor sap who’s wanted me dead.” His eyes gleamed curiously then, almost taking on a new persona entirely. “Now let me ask you something. Why on Earth would you mention being hauled off to be...executed, of all things?”
Chenle’s whole posture drooped. His shoulders sagged. His breath hitched ever slightly, before being onset by a minor coughing fit.
Jaemin swiftly helped to ease him back onto the bed, but the ill boy fought back, thrusting the knife above his neck once more.
“D-Don’t…” He coughed again. “Don’t help me. I don’t need or want your help. I only want my Emin back. I’m not going to let you take her away from me…!”
“Emin?” The Prince frowned. “I don’t have anything like that...I’m afraid I don’t quite follow what you…!” Then his face lit up with realization. “Ah, wait, you mean that painting in the Duchess’ quarters?” His face began glowing with soft sort of realism. “It’s lovely. Did you paint that?”
“It’s a girl,” Chenle coughed, slowly coming out of his minor attack. “...and she has a name...her name is--”
“Emin,” Jaemin cooed, purred, slandered. As if he enjoyed the way it melted on his tongue the same way it brought the artist pleasure.
He glared, eyes growing dark. “Don’t say her name. You don’t get to say it! She’s mine, my Emin, and I won’t let you take her away from me. Even if I have to...even if I have to…”
“Kill me?”
He flinched, muscles tensing sharply beneath his borrowed clothes. “...Yes. Even if I have to kill you.”
Jaemin was all smiles again-- actually smiling. Did this guy have some sort of death wish? Was he mocking him right now? Challenging him, daring him to try?
Chenle had no idea. It was either that, or he was into some really weird stuff. “Why are you smiling like that? Tell me right now!”
“...You’re a demanding little thing.”
“Tell me, I said!”
“Hmm…” He breathed out through his nostrils, leaning back in the chair he’d pulled up beside the bed. “If you’d really wanted to kill me...you would have done so already. But you haven’t. We’re still talking, aren’t we?”
This hit Chenle harder than he was expecting it to; he practically felt the air deflate from his lungs, and he’d just managed to suppress his haggering coughing fit.
“And I daresay I’ve counted at least three prime opportunities you could have striked.”
“...I…”
The prince simpered, crossing one richly-clad foot over the opposite knee. “So why don’t you tell me about this...Emin of yours.”
Chenle was back to being angry and frustrated all over again. “Why should I? After this, I’ll never see her again…she’s going to be yours anyway...”
He clenched the knife in his hand. Jaemin pursed his lips into a curious pout.
“And why’s that? What do you mean, she’s going to be mine? I’m not interested in buying the painting if that’s what you--”
“Of course that’s not it! You’re going to be marrying her soon enough! You’re right, what you said before...there’s nothing I can do to save her from you…”
Jaemin’s face may as well have been pandora’s box. “What? What in the name of Sam Hill are you talking about? Why would I want to marry a painting…?”
Chenle deadpanned. At least the prince had looks going for him. “I’m not talking about the Emin of my dreams! I’m talking about the real one!”
“The...The real one…?”
“Yes!!”
“...Oh.”
He still didn’t get it. The artist facepalmed. “My Emin. She goes by…” He swallowed harshly, afraid to even speak your name aloud before the prince who’d be stealing you away. “...(y/n)...”
Jaemin seemed to be getting an awful lot of amusement out of the visual display of embarrassment the painter showed. “(Y/n)? As in, Viscountess (y/n)?”
“Don’t speak her name!! At least have the decency to wait until I’m dead before you do…”
“Why on Earth would I want to do a thing like that?” He rolled his eyes. “You sure do talk a lot about execution and death. Do you want to die?”
Chenle had to think about this for a moment. Did he want to die? Technically, without you, he was nothing. Empty. A blank canvas with nothing to show.
Then, there was his mother...with his brother overseas, he was the only one working to support the two of them other than herself. As much as he loved you, he didn’t want to leave her all alone…
...Then again, it wouldn’t matter anyway. His life was on a clock right now, ticking much faster than the average, everyday man’s. He was going to die soon regardless.
“...it doesn’t matter. I’m going to die anyway.”
The princely man blinked. “What do you mean?”
He sighed, placing a blistered hand over his faintly beating heart. “I’m...sick. I was born weak, with a strange illness no cleric has ever seen before. There’s no cure for it either, I...I honestly wasn’t expected to live this long. It’s a miracle I’m even still alive right now…”
“That doesn’t answer my original query.”
“What? Yes it does—“
“No, it doesn’t.” Jaemin tsked, shaking his head. “I asked you, do you want to die. Not if you’re going to or not.”
“...” Violently, Chenle shook his head no. The elder of the two grinned.
“Good! Then we can start preparing you for the wedding right away. Oh, and I’ll get you some medicine as well. Judging by your symptoms you have a condition that’s rare but not unheard of in Norwich. So long as you don’t over exert yourself, I can have a brew cooked up and in your hands in about a week, maybe two...give or take.”
He nearly choked. This was a lot of information, but the one thing that really caught his attention was... “W...Wedding?”
So now he expected him to go? To watch (y/n) be married off? To officially strip the last few remaining pigments of color out of his life?!
Oh, he’d be there alright. But not—
“Yeah. You have to be present for your own wedding. It’s sort of a requirement, actually.”
...A re...A require…
His own wedding?!
Just then the youngest Prince of Norwich returned, popping a bubble of some sticky-sweet substance between his lips on his way in. Jaemin beamed in delight.
“Oh, Jisung, perfect timing. I need you to go back down and bring me a tailor. Anyone will do, so long as he’s qualified.”
“Tailor?” Jisung’s face was scrunched up in obvious puzzlement. “But I just got back up here! What the heck do you need a tailor for? And who the heck is he?” He pointed to Chenle, blowing another pink bubble and popping it with his teeth. “Y’know, Dad told you to--”
“Again, Jisung, Mark is not our father.” He chastised. “...But yes, I know what he said. That’s not it, though.” He gestured to Chenle as if to present a showcase prize. “This colorful young fellow is...he’s uh...er…” He scratched his ear. “What did you say your name was again?”
Chenle almost didn’t want to tell him. But then he really, really did. Because he thought he knew where this was going, and if he was right; which he was; he didn’t want to miss out on this one and only golden opportunity to save you, to save his entire world, and to finally, surely, be able to leave this world in peace once his time was soon to come...in case he didn’t happen to get that medicine in time. “Chenle.”
“Chenle...~” Jaemin nodded. “That’s a wonderful name. I like it, really. It suits the future Viscount of Adderdale rather nicely. Let’s see...Chenle. Sir Chenle! Siiir Chenle...yes, yes, I like it.” He rubbed his chin in thought with a few more nods.
Jisung stared at him like he was dumb as rocks. “Uh, hello? I don’t get it. You’re telling me that this--” he pointed to Chenle-- “--poor kid off the street is going to marry Viscountess what’s-her-name? And not you? Don’t you think Dad-- I mean, Mark, is gonna be...kinda sus? And pissed? Not to mention Renjun and Jeno…”
Jaemin shrugged. “Hey, what can I say? I’d hate to stand in the way of true love...it would be wrong to steal away this young man’s girl when he obviously adores her more than I ever could.”
He winked. Jisung groaned. “You can’t just slack off your duties for some angsty teen romance novel fling! You’re gonna get us both in trouble!”
“......” The elder shook his head, running a hand through his wavy blonde hair. “I knew I should have brought Hyuck, and not you. It’ll be good for him, they said. You’ll be doing us a favor, they said. Aiyaiyai…”
“Hey! Rude!”
“Just go bring me a tailor already! I’ll deal with our brothers when we get home, but I’m this sure at the very least, Jeno would agree with me.”
He held his fingers inches apart, and Jisung deflated a little, beginning to cave. His brother just kept on rambling.
“...We’ll have to get him cleaned up...and do something about that hair...I doubt any of my clothes will fit him, much less my wedding attire…”
Finally the youngest rolled his eyes, and as he shut the door behind him Chenle could hardly breathe. He just couldn’t believe it.
He was getting a second chance. He was going to marry his Emin.
“Are you sure you understand the plan?”
“Yes.”
“And you know where to go when I give the signal?”
“Yes…”
“And you’re absolutely sure you--”
“Oh my gosh, Jaemin, he gets it already!” Jisung snapped. “Just hurry up and get out there before they start suspecting anything! I can’t believe I’m playing along with this…”
With a determined nod Jaemin took off out into the bustling chapel, everyone getting ready to take their places for the celebratory event. Because everything had to be just perfect, the Norwich Prince was directed to take his place in a back hallway, where he’d be escorted out onto the platform by high-ranking officials.
Chenle watched with nervous breadth. What if something went wrong? What if Jaemin changed his mind the moment he saw you walking out, looking like a waking dream? The personification of sheer beauty and ethereal godliness? A goddess among goddesses, Aphrodite herself?
He wouldn’t be able to take it. He’d have to stab himself in the heart and end it all right then and there--
“Hey.”
He looked over to Jisung, who was eyeing him suspiciously.
“Stop being so overdramatic. You’re worse than Haechan when he’s drunk off his ass.”
“Who?”
He blew another bubble, allowing it to pop at the peak of his eye roll. “Never mind. Listen...you don’t have anything to worry about. Jaemin’s not like that. Whatever you were thinking. He’s a good guy, really...also...I uh…” He rubbed the back of his neck, turning his eyes away. “I think you guys look good together. You and um…(y/n)?”
He casted him a sideways glance for confirmation, and when Chenle nodded, he returned the gesture. “Yeah, (y/n)...I saw you guys together, out in the front garden a few days ago...my ship arrived here before my brother’s. He took too long getting ready, so I set off without him.” He shrugged. “Anyway...the two of you seemed to be having a disagreement of sorts, but...I don’t know, the way you were staring at each other, deep into the other’s eyes, I could tell you were really close. Like an old flame or something.”
...An old flame...Chenle didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t entirely wrong, but— he was at a loss for words.
Then the youngest prince said something that really took his breath away. “Y’know...I think that, maybe, you and me could have been great friends if we’d grown up together.” He smiled, a small one, but one nonetheless. “I know this is kind of sudden, since we barely know each other, but...I think I would have liked that. You should come visit us in Norwich sometime. You’d love it there, honestly— the Winters are beautiful.”
It was out there so suddenly, so kindly worded, Chenle didn’t know how to process it all. Him? Having friends? He’d been sick his whole life, the only people ever paying him any kind of attention being his mother and his brother when he’d been around and...of course, you...the day you found him laying out on the street within an inch of his life, and you rescued him from certain death, he immediately knew you were the one. He’d instantly fallen in love with you. Those feelings only grew and grew over time…
However...the thought of having a friend…
He didn’t think he knew the answer. But the palette in his mind was equipped with a bright, yellow color, and he found himself nodding meekly before he knew what he was doing.
Jisung tilted his head back in a pleased indication that he’d gotten the message of what Chenle had meant to say, even though no words would come to him; after all, the boy was an artist, not a poet. “I should probably take my seat. Good luck out there.”
With a pat on the back, he crossed the threshold.
Now all that was left was for him to wait.
It’d be an understatement to say that you were nervous. Because you weren’t; you were more than nervous, you were practically horrified.
You’d thought you could handle it. Really, you did. But the moment it actually started happening, it was instantly all too much; only now it was ten times worse, because it was actually happening in real time.
First the music started to play, a gorgeous symphony of organs and strings. The Queen had even hired a quartet of flautists to play in harmony to the familiar chorus of Canon in D Major. The flower girl made her entrance first, tossing flower petals down the aisle and into the waiting audience. They gushed and cooed over how cute she was, muttering comments of how handsome of a boy the ring bearer behind her would grow up to be, though he was practically more of a man than a boy...that ring bearer being…
...Zhong Chenle? What?!
Your jaw nearly hit the floor at the sight of him, striding into the room with such perfect posture and well-to-do attire. He looked like a prince out of a fairytale novel.
But what on Earth was he doing here…?
“My Lady, it’s time,” called a maid. You had a hard time peeling your eyes away, but you were able to nonetheless with a bit of effort on both yours and the maids parts as they pulled you away to your proper waiting station outside.
It broke your heart that he’d gotten himself roped into this, and you had no idea how he’d done it, but maybe after this, at least, you could send him off with a proper goodbye…
He’d been too nervous. He couldn’t wait any longer. He had to do something.
So the second the melody of Beetovhen’s chorus flitted about the room, he snatched the rings from a boy waiting nearby, stumbling his way in right behind a small flower girl and immediately righting the way he carried himself.
He could feel Jaemin’s eyes on him from the far off hall where he peeked behind a curtain, pleading for him to turn back. He could hear Jisung’s ragged breathy sigh, calling him an idiot.
But he didn’t care. He wouldn’t. This was all for you...and anyway, it was too late to change anything about the choice he’d made now.
He paused at the foot of the altar, going to the opposite side where the men waited as traditional Adderdale weddings he’d witnessed in his lifetime. Then he took a deep, shaky breath, fighting back the urge to cough as a tickle made its way to the back of his throat.
Not now. Not now. Please, not now.
The small orchestra suddenly broke out into the Norwich national anthem, and Jaemin made his appearance, walking tall and proud and princely to stand at his place atop the altar; temporarily, that is.
He sent Chenle a sly wink from where the boy stood just two feet behind him.
“It’s alright. We can still make this work out. I know you must be incredibly nervous right now; I would be, too, were I the one getting married today.”
Curse the man. Chenle couldn’t help but smile.
Then it was the moment everyone had been anticipating: as the Norwichian anthem came to a whole-noted close, a circle of guards surrounding the chapel stepped forward from their placement along the surrounding walls in unison, saluting as the King and Queen entered, followed by the Duchess and a few other nobles Chenle never paid enough attention to remember the names of. They each took their seats, and then...then…
The most beautiful harmonic arrangement began to play, and everyone quieted straightaway, the room falling instantly silent as a gentle hush fell over the crowd. The familiar melodic tune of Here Comes The Bride circled round and round the room, and within seconds all eyes were on what had to be...what surely was...he just…
He wasn’t a poet, as was mentioned before. There were simply no words yet in existence to describe how...how…
You were perfect. That’s the best way he could think to paint it; and speaking of paint, he wanted to capture this moment so badly on canvas and…
No. In reality, he wanted you all to himself. He didn’t want anyone to see you looking so beautiful, for fear that they may steal you away from him as the palace did years ago, and as Jaemin almost had (or would have) that very day.
You approached the aisle at a slow, leisurely pace, crisp and clean and glowing with pristine perfection as two more flower girls hurried before you, and an ensemble of maids held up the trail of your dress and veil whilst shadowing at your heels.
Chenle desperately wanted to knock them all over and scurry out of there with you in his arms. If only he were strong and brave enough to do a thing like that…
The urge to cough was getting worse. He tried clearing his throat beneath the guise of the fluttering chorus, but that only seemed to make the need more prominent.
As you finally made your way up the altar steps, it was then that he simply couldn’t take it anymore. Something in him went black, shutting down, and he…
He collapsed.
A series of gasps and astonished cries reverberated off the chapel walls and stained glass windows as the boy you hardly recognized hit the ground with a pain-filled grunt.
Acting quickly Prince Jaemin nearly threw himself down to help your dearest friend, pushing guards and other palace help out of the way when they tried to draw near. You yourself tossed the bouquet of wildflowers the Queen had insisted you carry (the national flower of Norwich) over your shoulder, a few stuck-up and self-centered bridesmaids scrambling to catch it and squealing excitedly about which of the other princes were available to marry.
Jisung had shut them up pretty fast with a rude remark, but you were too focused on the topic at hand to hear exactly what it was.
“Chenle!” you cried, lifting the limp boy in your arms. “Oh, Chenle...please say something…!”
This was it. You were afraid something like this might happen one day. But you’d never thought it would be so soon...Chenle’s illness was no surprise to you; you’d known about it for quite some time. In fact, it was you that had secretly been funding a portion of his monthly checkups with a palace cleric, a silent agreement you’d made with his grateful mother.
And now it was really happening. He was dying right here in your arms. You hated that your brain immediately jumped to the worst possible conclusion, but...what else could it be? He’d never had a fit this bad before...not that you knew of, at least.
Chenle simpered up at you weakly as a tear crossed the distance from your cheek to his, reaching up an unsteady hand to caress away the tears. Your face shouldn’t be sullied with worry over his sake. “D...Don’t cry…” His chest heaved violently, feeble frame shivering between each ragged cough. “...I’ll be...okay...I…” He took a deep, deep breath. You held onto yours.
And then it was said. The words you never thought you would ever hear, never thought you wanted to hear, never thought you would be the one to say:
“I love you, Chenle. I love you so much...”
Tears were pouring down your face now, his shivers contaminating your body as you shook along with him, exposing your heart and soul over the dying young artist.
“Please don’t leave. Stay with me...wherever you go, I’ll go, and wherever you stay, I too will stay...I don’t care if you’re sick, or that you come from a broken family, or that you’re poor, or dirty, or weak. You’ve always hated that about yourself, but none of that matters to me...you’re just Chenle to me. Just Chenle...I’ll...I’ll be your sword and shield, your strength and shelter. I’ll follow you to the ends of this very Earth, and I...I love you, Chenle...it would be my honor to take care of you, for the rest of our days. Just don’t leave me…!”
Your eyes were squeezed shut at this point, trying to stop the flood of facepaint from raining off the thundercloud of emotion that was currently your face, and when Chenle’s hand fell limp in yours you gasped, throwing your eyes open…
And seeing that he was sitting up. Calming down. Gathering himself.
He...wasn’t dying…?
Jaemin heaved a heavy-laden sigh relief as he pulled out a needle from the boy’s opposite arm. “Thank the good Lord you brought an emergency antidote with you...nice one, Jisung.”
Another blonde-haired boy sighed. “Well, you know, really Renjun forced it on me, but...y’know.” He shrugged.
Profoundly, you turned your attention back to Chenle. He was looking at you with stars in his eyes.
Suddenly everything you had just revealed deep down in the recesses of your heart came swinging back to whop you in the face, and you just knew you must have resembled the reddest tomato out back in the royal vegetable garden. You attempted to once more hide your blushing face--
Of course, Chenle had other ideas in mind. Of course, he had cupped your messy tear-stained face, placing a...kiss…?!
You melted into it, and so did he, the colors and clarity and butterflies all swirling together. For now you were receiving a reality neither of you had ever thought to be possible, and now, finally, he was able to mix his palette with yours. And it wasn’t a mess as he feared; it was a beautiful masterpiece.
Jaemin was the first one to applaud, and soon, hesitantly at first, the rest of the chapel began to follow.
“I’d say you may now kiss the bride, but uh...it appears to be a little too late for that,” he jested. His brother frowned, rolling his eyes with another blow of gum.
“Ya think?”
“...”
He smirked, popping the bubble in his face and everyone gasping with laughter as it exploded there.
“Shut up.”
“Hey, wife?”
“Yes, Chenle?”
He frowned, his face sagging at the ends. “You’re supposed to say, husband.”
“Oh,” you laughed, moving on to the next exhibit as the two of you walked around the new art studio, hand in hand, taking in each and every piece of the artist’s work on display. “Sorry, sorry. Ahem…” You started again. “Yes, husband?”
Chenle hummed happily, his whole face beaming with pure joy and delight. He seemed to be spacing out, tossing his head from side to side as if doing a little jig in his mind.
“...Chenle. Chenle? Helloooo…?” You waved your hand in front of his face, and he winced, snapping back to you quickly with the goofiest grin you’d ever seen.
He really was so cute. “Yes, (Y/n)? I mean, wife?”
You shook your head. “What is it you wanted to tell me?”
“Tell you…? Oh, yeah!” He continued to stare at you a bit too intently. “Have I told you I love you today? Because I do. And I just want to make sure that you know how much I--”
You let out a sound that was a cross between a groan and more laughter, wrapping an arm around his as the two of you continued to stroll around the winding halls. “Yes, Chen--”
He gave you a deadpan.
“...I mean, husband. Husband.” you assured him. “Yes, you have. This would be the twenty-eighth time now.”
He gave a smug and satisfied smirk that was all too cute on his yet again paint-stained face. The moment the medicine from Norwich had come in, Chenle’s health had rapidly improved, and he was able to paint in a way you’d never witnessed him do before: peacefully. Happily. Content. It was a marvelous sight to behold.
Despite the lack of another knot tied uniting the lands of Norwich and Adderdale, negotiations and trade among the two lands had been carrying on better than ever; swimmingly, in fact. You and Chenle were set to visit Norwich Palace for a business meeting and tea within the coming weeks. They all couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of things; according to a recent letter from Jaemin, who was now a good friend of yours, their brother’s had wished you and Chenle the best of luck and sent you their love and blessings in the new relationship. Apparently their brother Hyuck had even cried a little...but in his defense, the prince wrote, the boy was rather drunk.
The two of you came to stop before Chenle’s latest masterpiece: Emin No. 59. A portrait of the girl who looked like you in a wedding gown suspiciously similar to yours, standing with dignity and grace atop the chapel altar, surrounded by birds and squirrels and other wildlife, the sun shading colors of the rainbow upon her skin...he may as well have titled the piece Snow White.
“Say, Chenle...ah, husband...” You pursed your lips profusely in an overzealous pout. “You never told me: why do you call her that? Why Emin?”
“......” Chenle was quiet all of ten seconds as he formed his response. He smiled tenfold, putting all previous glee to shame, the light from the coming sunset casting small spotlights through cracks in the palace curtains that highlighted all your best features; which would have been all of you, to him at least. “Because…” he replied, taking your hands into his and kissing your knuckles softly. Something he’d be doing everyday, every waking moment he saw you, for the rest of his life. “You’re Emin. My Emin...and you’re all mine.” ღ
