I kind of hate reading DC omnibuses because I always feel compelled to read the intros, which are like "This comic is the greatest comic ever written. It changed the industry forever. It changed publishing. It changed America. When [author] first approached me about this idea, I said, 'It'll never work! People will riot in the streets. But it's genius, so let's do it anyway.' This is what superhero comics are about. This is what literature and humanity and art is about. This is what Homer wishes he could have written."
And then it's just . . . an alternate universe where all the characters are meaner than normal?

Note
Hello Mr. Gaiman!
How old are Edwin and Charles? (age at death, not time of existence) My mental image of them from the audio book had them quite a bit younger seeming than the Netflix show. And the omnibus (my library took my suggestion to get a copy!!) seems to match my mental image age of them a bit better. Were they aged up for the Netflix show?
They were.
The biggest problem with casting twelve year old ghosts who do not age is that the actors who play them are going to age whether you want them to or not. So better to get actors who can play 16-18ish and will (you hope) continue to be able to play those ages for a good while to come.

🚨🚨 URGENT! Congress trying to pass anti-LGBT bill under the guise of “child safety”!
UPDATE 09/05/2023:
Well well well, if it isn’t the consequences of her bigotry
So Marsha Blackburn, in her infinite wisdom, decided to admit in an interview with the bigoted Family Policy Alliance that the Kids Online Safety Act is a GIANT anti-transgender bill (or at the least, it’s so poorly written that it makes targeting transgender people easier). Naturally, after this blunder, she and Blumenthal are trying to do damage control. But WE have the videos, and people’s responses to this open confession in the links below:
Alejandro Caraballo’s Tweet with the Video.
Erin Reed’s followup article
Attempts at damage control commented on by Ari Drennen
PinkNews’ article about it.
Beacon Broadside Article
Mashable Article
So with all that in mind, please make way to the Bad Internet Bills website to tell your Senators that you STRONGLY advise them to drop their support/refuse to support this awful bill in light of this, or that their re-election chances will drop considerably.
-----
UPDATE 02/14/2023: Richard Blumenthal is a lying snake who’s trying to get both KOSA and EARN IT Act back into law.
He persistently continues to ignore all of the backlash against these bills, the criticisms and highlighting the serious flaws of the bill by numerous human rights and LGBTQ organizations, and it’s telling that there seems to be no one who opposed the bill at the hearings today.
Fortunately, there are those are speaking up against it, such as Evan Greer from Fight For The Future.
Keep your eyes and ears open. We will be hearing more about these bills as time goes on.
----
UPDATE 01/30/2023: Well, Chuck Schumer has chosen to backstab human rights and pro- LGBTQ communities, as well as the internet by trying to fast-track KOSA. The time table is as follows:
REINTRODUCTION OF THE BILL IN FEBRUARY
HOLDING MARKUPS IN MARCH
And holding a floor vote in JUNE
https://twitter.com/evan_greer/status/1620088145554579456
KEEP IN MIND, this was the man who blocked legitimately good anti-Big Tech bills like AICOA on the pretense they would be “too much”, but was perfectly fine with the travesty of KOSA.
This man is in Big Tech’s pockets, because only they can afford to pay the fines that such a restrictive pro-censorship bill would enforce. The only people this bill helps are the exact people it claims to stop, while LGBTQ people have to pay the price for the greed of the corrupt congressmen and women.
All of the relevant links are still below, but I will be updated this as we go.
---
UPDATE 01/17/2023: Nothing has happened yet, but there have been rumblings of our “favorite” Senator Blumenthal talking about trying to push KOSA in again. I’ll mostly be keeping an eye on things for now, and you guys should too on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media and news outlets.
---
UPDATE 12/20/2022: KOSA BILL HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE FINAL OMNIBUS BILL! WE DID IT!
https://twitter.com/evan_greer/status/1605261800479547392
That being said, this is very much a reprieve, since Blumenthal and Blackburn, and their cohorts have made it clear they intend to get this bill back into Congress next year. But WE DID IT. We managed to get this bill stopped from being added in the omnibus bill.
I want to thank all of you who helped to reblog this post, signed the various petitions and the open letter, and especially if you went and called your Senators. Without your effort, this might have turned out VERY differently!
Thank you all, and I hope the rest of this year is a pleasant one!
----
So, this is a particularly long post, but it’s an absolutely IMPORTANT ONE. PLEASE REBLOG! LIKING IS USELESS!
UPDATE 12/14/2022: Two weeks ago, 90+ human rights, LGBT, and tech orgs signed onto an open letter telling Senators NOT to pass this bill. in response, over 230 orgs led by the American Psychological Association signed a letter urging senators to push this bill forward.
An updated version of the bill has been pushed forward by Senators Blumenthal and Blackburn, who claim to have changed the bill in response to feedback, but insight by the likes of Evan Greer and Ari Cohn have made it clear that the changes are superficial at best, and arguably fail to properly address the problems of the original bill.
https://twitter.com/evan_greer/status/1603139423071309825
We got blindsided by this, and we REALLY need your help!
Further explanation HERE: https://www.tumblr.com/fullhalalalchemist/703545300138262528/urgent
POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc. about your opposition to this! The more voices speaking out the better, and we can’t do this alone!
The Hashtags are:

“Kids Online Safety Act” (no hashtag and quotes, just the regular words)
And PLEASE call your Senators at (202-224-3121).
ESPECIALLY CALL THESE THREE, SINCE THEY ARE THE MAJOR PEOPLE WHO COULD END UP PUTTING THE BILL INTO THE OMNIBUS/MUST PASS SPENDING BILL:

ORIGINAL POST:
In a particularly scummy move, the Kids Online Safety Act is going to be put into the must pass end of year spending bill: www.axios.com/…
The two laws best positioned to get rolled into big year-end legislative packages, according to advocates and lawmakers, are:
The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), which would require platforms to guard kids from harmful content using new features and safeguards and to make privacy settings "on" by default for children. The law also mandates privacy audits and  more transparency about privacy policies.
At first glance, the bill doesn’t sound bad, since it’s about helping “protect children” online. But like every “protect the children” type law, this would censor the internet of anything “harmful” to children aka any LGBT, NSFW, or whatever the Right doesn’t like, force everyone to upload their govt ID’s to even access anything online, and surveil everyone else. Gutting everyone’s privacy in an era where we see massive state violence and encroaching fascism globally. This is not only pushed by the same people (Senator Richard Blumenthal and Marsha Blackburn) who created the awful EARN IT Act, but also has many of the same flaws, such as pro-censorship, anti LGBT resources and content, and pro-mass surveillance.
But the biggest problem, as Mike Stabile has pointed out, is HOW the mechanism to which this works: The State Attorney General.
This addition would allow states like Texas and Florida to sue companies for having LGBTQ+ content, along with sex education resources, incentivizing these platforms to ban that content. To be more specific, the bill allows the state attorney general to sue if they believe that platforms do not protect minors from a list of harms that includes politicized terms like "grooming" which, as we've seen can include any sort of LGBTQ information, entertainment or literature.
RuPaul on TikTok?
A clip on transgender youth on Facebook?
A gay character in a Disney movie?
Suicide hotlines for gay youth?
Cue a suit from Texas or Florida targeting the entire web.
And the problem is that given the current political climate and the cruel behavior of a number of GOP aligned political groups in positions of power, this only ends up making things RIPE for abuse and mass censorship (since companies will probably end up choosing to acquiesce to their demands rather than risk being subject to liability) not to mention the damage this would cause to children who might need resources regarding LGBT or sex education.
Furthermore, the definition of “sexually exploitative material”, “grooming”, and “child porn” has been used in the past year to target transgender people, drag queens, and the wider LGBTQ+ community by likening their very existence as sexually violent. Yet another way this bill’s language will be used to target a community that is already facing violence. Every night, Fox News blasts a story on “sexualization of children '' to fear-monger around the LGBT community. One needs to not look any further than the right-wing ecosystem to see how KOSA would easily be weaponized.
This article by Mike Masnick on Techdirt also goes further into KOSA and its adjacent bills.
To make matters even worse, on top of the usual suspects of NCOSE ( They used to be called Morality in Media, and are a far right group disguised as an anti sex trafficking org infamous for being religious assholes who HATE anything to do with sex or LGBT) supporting this travesty of a bill, it’s been revealed that the Senate leader is claiming there’s no opposition.
This is literally giving the fascists a dangerous tool to abuse, all for the sake of political brownie points against ‘Big Tech’. A tool that far right groups like the Heritage Foundation have OPENLY stated will abuse to silence LGBTQ+ or sex-ed content for youth everywhere if it passes.
The ONLY way this works is by making sure who is and isn’t a minor is to have some form of age-verification scheme. And the only way to do that is through a third party like ID.me which has recently come under scrutiny for, you guessed it, data leaks. So everyone who accesses anything online will be forced to upload their govt IDs. How is this protecting anyone’s privacy?
With all that said, what can we do?
Well, the same thing we did for the EARN IT Act; we make a LOT of noise, and get the word out.
If you have read all of the above and want to fight this, sign this open letter against KOSA.
And PLEASE call your Senators at (202-224-3121).
ESPECIALLY CALL THESE THREE, SINCE THEY ARE THE MAJOR PEOPLE WHO COULD END UP PUTTING THE BILL INTO THE }OMNIBUS:
Maria Cantwell (202) 224-3441
Chuck Schumer (202) 224-6542
Nancy Pelosi (202) 225-4965
There is a call script with phone numbers here.
Fax them, email them. Tell them they MUST oppose this bill. CONTACT any major human rights, LGBT, and cybersecurity related organizations aligned and let them know about this bill, and the harm it can cause to LGBT rights and children! If you need more information on KOSA, we have a LINKTREE HERE.
EMPHASIZE THE HARM TO CHILDREN WHEN YOU CONTACT PEOPLE, SINCE THEY’RE TRYING TO CLAIM THAT THIS WILL HELP PROTECT CHILDREN’S PRIVACY, WHEN IT DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE.
There’s also a Petition by the Electronic Frontier Foundation  and from Fight For the Future.

kinda want to make a youtube channel where I review minecraft mod packs but the joke is that I only ever review on part of the modpack, and score them appropriately.
“Hello gamers, and welcome to Foone’s Minecraft Modpack Review! Today we’re looking at All The Mods 8, it’s an omnibus mod pack with lots of interesting tech and magic add-ons with lots of quality-of-life improvements, and frequent updates. But let’s get down to testing”
I walk over to a tree, knock down some blocks, make an axe, and finish mining out the wood. The leaves quickly despawn over a few seconds.
“That settles it, folks! This modpack DOES have Fast Leaf Decay. I’m therefore rating it an A+ out of ten, top stars, download it today. Don’t forget to like comment and subscribe, and tune in next week where we’re testing Vault Hunters 3... Will it have Fast Leaf Decay or not? You better subscribe to find out!”

When you get the chance do you think you could write a Miguel x chubbyF!reader ?
(It's my first time requesting and I wanted to try and give like an idea of it)
Miguel saw the reader in the library and she caught his eye and he went on about what he was doing until he grabbed the same book as her and it just happened to be both of their favorite books and they ended up talking about it and maybe going to a coffee shop after?
The Very Grumpy Spider
Miguel x Chubby/Curvy!Fem!Reader
TW/CW: None

Tumblr media
🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷
Miguel was hiding away from the world in the most unlikely of places. It wasn't his home, or his darkened office at HQ, or the labs at Alchemax.
No, it was the library. It hardly had any foot traffic, and the libraries of the world were quickly becoming obsolete with their actual paper books in favor of all the digital files you could simply download online these days.
Which is why it was perfect for him to hide in.
It was quiet, almost no people, and his favorite reading nook had the comfiest chairs. Hell, sometimes he'd sit in the bean bag chairs and nod off a bit.
Today he was browsing the shelves labeled "Classics -- Science Fiction".
His large fingers drummed on the spines of each book as he weighed the decision of which one to read, his glasses perched low on his nose. It seemed silly, that someone who has superpowers would like something as simple as science fiction, but these books were a big escape from the abuse he and his little brother were witness (and in many cases victim) to.
It was also the library he'd run off to back then, too.
It was a sanctuary, a sweet, private Sanctuary.
Miguel was so warped in his thoughts that he didn't notice somebody was now standing right next to him.
Not until a small hand reached out and they both touched the spine of the same book.
An omnibus of sorts containing all the stories of a series called "Dinotopia" by an author named James Gurney, a little over a hundred or so years ago. Miguel as a child had silly fantasies of finding such a place and now the stories were a source of great comfort when the stress of his life became a bit too hard.
"Oh! Sorry!" You say, awkwardly snatching your hand back. "I... Er. Didn't know that anybody else liked... uh, nevermind."
You were... cute. Not obnoxiously made-up like many of the women he's met; you were very minimal makeup and he could even see a few blemishes here and there.
Your body was not rail thin--again, like most women he's known--you were soft, your clothes hugged your body in a way that showed that you had little rolls that spilled over the top of your jeans, your legs and arms a bit on the thicker side, and your round little face definitely set you apart.
And Miguel found himself quickly liking the sight.
He lowered his hand and shook his head with a soft chuckle, "Ah, no, it's alright. I'm surprised anybody even knows these books exist."
You smiled sheepishly up at him, dimples in your soft cheeks as you did. "Yeah... My grandpa used to read these to me when I was little. It's hard to find them nowadays and the copies I had got ruined when my apartment flooded..."
"I used to read them as a kid, myself." Miguel smiled at you as he plucked the book off the shelf, looking at the illustrated cover; protected by a dust jacket but the cover was faded with time, the pages slightly yellowed.
"They were a nice escape."
"Oh! Yeah... They--they are." You say as you watched him turn the book over in his massive hands. Hell, they were so goddamn big that the thick volume looked like a tiny booklet. And oh, did you try to ignore how strong they looked.
Miguel sighed and held the book out to you, "Here. Far be it from me to keep someone from reading a favorite, huh?"
You held your hands up, waving then a bit. "Oh! No, no, um... It's okay. You can read it."
You both stood there, blinking at each other in an awkward silence.
Until you both broke out into soft laughter and Miguel lowered his hand that still clutched the book.
"...We're just going to go back and forth about this, aren't we?" He asked.
"... Probably." You giggled, rubbing the back of your neck.
There was another pause, until you decided to break it.
"Um... well. We can... Talk about it?"
When he tilted his head at you with raised eyes you felt yourself flush. "I--! Well, I just mean that, um... Er. It's unusual to find anybody that knows about that series because it's so old, so, I mean..."
He laughed again, and god, did it sound wonderful as it tumbled out of his lips. He fixed his dark eyes on you and smiled. "Sure. I don't have anywhere to be for the rest of the day."
You swore you could see that his eyes glimmered a different color as he spoke, and your heart slipped a beat.
🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷
You and Miguel chatted for what must have been close to three hours. You'd even gotten so close as to read the book together; or, well, a few of the stories in it here and there.
You guys had sat so close you could smell his cologne and aftershave.
Meanwhile Miguel could smell your sweet, cherry-like perfume. Hell, he could even smell your lip balm (it had notes of honey) thanks to his super senses.
He loved watching you move, he would often take his eyes from the pages to scan your form, looking at how soft and plush you were. He had the most intrusive thoughts about laying his head in your lap and just letting you run your fingers through his hair as you read the book aloud to him.
Oh, your thighs looked like perfect napping pillows...
He was gorgeous, and he found you absolutely beautiful. You were cute, funny, and quirky, whereas you found him intelligent, witty and kind when he spoke to you.
Something beeped on Miguel's watch and when he looked at it, he grunted. Lyla was asking him when he was going to just ask you out, because apparently she'd been eavesdropping covertly through his watch.
Yeah, it had been hours.
"Is that, um... A call you need to take?" You ask hesitantly.
"No, it's just my assistant checking on me." He turned it off and lowered his wrist, smiling again at you, and he felt something gnaw in his stomach when he saw your hopeful expression.
Fuck it.
"Hey... Would you like to get a coffee?" He finally asked you directly.
And oh, the little error-code face you made was just precious.
"Oh!" You shake your head softly, and smile up at him again. "Sure! I--I mean that is I'm okay with with that, and... uh."
Miguel stood, the book once again in his palm and he extended his hand to you politely to help you out of your seat.
Witty and chivalrous. It made you positively weak in the knees!
"But, um... are you sure?" You ask, following him to the check out counter.
He smiled at you over his shoulder, waving the book.
"Of course. After all, how else are we supposed to finish reading this together?"

Judging books by their covers
Having spent the morning reading the notes on this post (and reading them, and reading them...), I realized I really needed to get to grips with a piece of work I'd been avoiding.
Some of you may remember me mentioning that the Young Wizards website's longtime ISP went out of business suddenly in July, necessitating the site's hasty relocation to a new home. In the process a lot of its internal URLs ceased to operate correctly, meaning that files weren't displaying. (As I was quickly reminded when looking for the original David Wiesner art for So You Want To Be A Wizard at 01:30 last night.)
Anyway, I just wound up spending the day rescanning book covers for the Young Wizards publication history page, and was reminded of some favorites while getting the work done. (And a note for the interested: if there's any particular cover from an English-language edition of the YW books that interests you, or you think the sight of one might jog your memory somehow, that page is where you'll find the images. Use the tabs under the header image to take you through the history of publishers and artists.)
Meanwhile, being reminded of what happened to the covers for So You Want To... alone is both funny and a bit sobering. Styles change, formats change, art directors change. Sometimes the covers get a lot better, and sometimes they, uh, don't. Look at the difference in styles alone among these, for example.
Tumblr media
Most of the time the writer gets to take what they're given, and like it. Sometimes, though, they get to give advice.
Here, for example, is one time that happened.
Tumblr media
This is for the UK hardcover of the first of the Feline Wizards books. The artist, Mick Posen, is a cat person... and he insisted on having pictures of the cats who inspired the NY worldgating team before he started painting. Just look at these three, especially Rhiow there in the foreground. Is this a hero, or what? :)
Here's one that caused a little controversy.
Tumblr media
The question of the day: Is Nita wearing anything? And if so, what?
The art won Greg Swearingen a silver Spectrum Award for that Deep Wizardry painting. But he and my then-editor on the series, Michael Stearns, apparently got into it a little regarding a conflict between the text and the necessities of painting a YA cover. If I remember correctly, I think Greg was holding out for "She's not wearing anything in the text in this situation, she just turned human again after changing back from being a whale, she shouldn't be wearing anything here!" and Michael was saying "But the parents, what if we freak out the parents...!" ...Eventually it seems like some kind of compromise was achieved. Swirly light = magic, or something. (shrug) Not my problem. It's a lovely cover.
Tumblr media
About this one I have, well, mixed feelings. At this end of time, the art looks clunky. Yet this is also my first bestseller. When the SF Book Club published this omnibus, Support Your Local Wizard quickly set records as their single most-requested item of all time for new members just signing up. Its print run ran to more than 250,000 copies, and it remained constantly in print until the Book Club itself ended.
Tumblr media
I've always been fond of this one for Deep Wizardry, and also of the one the artist, Neal McPheeters, did for the Dell Yearling and Dell mass market paperback editions of So You Want To... . There's a solid quality to both of them, but the second one in particular, that appeals to me.
Tumblr media
(For those in the notes on that other post who reacted immediately to Kit's antenna: This is one of the reasons why it features—along with one of Nita's wands from the rowan tree Liused—on all the covers of the revised/updated Young Wizards New Millennium Editions. I've seen a lot of memories jogged by its appearance.)
...Do I have a favorite favorite one of all these covers? As usual, it's hard to pick. But I have to admit that I smile, at the moment, when looking at this one—Greg Swearingen’s art again—since in a couple of weeks it'll be the fortieth anniversary of So You Want To Be A Wizard's publication.
Tumblr media
We'll see what the publisher does for the fiftieth. :)

[Sanji x reader]
Sol lucet omnibus
He’s like the sun.
And the sun, it shines for all.
An observer. That’s what you have been since coming across an interesting type of person which you couldn’t really understand as easily as you understood others. In almost two weeks, you have mentally noted five things that he does which you find weird:
1. He has a soft spot for women
“Namiii-sannnn~ “ - Sanji slides smoothly in front of his crew mate who widens her eyes. - Your fresh juice of the day!”
He happily lends her a glass to which she politely smiles. That’s more than enough to make him ecstatic. He twirls away in joy to another nearby table.
“Robin-chaaan~” - the same thing again. Not any less or more excitement than just a second ago. He lends yet another glass on Robin’s table and leaves while leaving flower petals blooming behind his footsteps out of the immeasurable joy he was feeling.
“My lady, your drink.” - Sanji approaches you with a charming attitude, bowing as he gives you a glass of juice.
“Thank you, Sanji.” - you smile softly, taking in another exaggerated reaction out of the cook.
“Ahhh~ it’s my pleasure.” - his cheeks glisten red whilst his eyes appear to create a heart shape.
“Oi. Sanji- Usopp is heard from the other side of the deck, - can I also have a -
“Wait for your turn.”- he cuts him sharply, fixing his tie and giving you a soft smile before walking away.
A giggle escapes your mouth as you rest your cheek in the palm of your hand, staring at the cook who you knew to be gentle to all, but to women he was more than just that. He was kind and submissive. For a man that appears strong and confident, his ability to love and care whilst also being witty and rough when needed, is to be admired.
However, the thing about kind people is that, they’re always, no matter what, misunderstood.
2. Acts prideful when actuallyhe has a low sense of worth for himself
“Alright we get it, love-cook, - Zoro teases, - you keep being walked like a dog and you like it.”
“What did you say, moss head?” - Sanji fiercely shouted, pushing his forehead against Zoro’s. The latter grabs his tie and shouts back:
“I said, you’re getting used, again, for the 100th time. Just quit it already. - Zoro states but his tone of voice slowly goes down as he notices a change in Sanji’s demeanour. - No one will… - his words don’t come out of his mouth. Instead he lets go of Sanji’s tie and walks away.
“No one will love you if you fight so hard to be loved. You can’t feed others if you yourself are hungry, can you?” - Zoro states before going down the stairs, entering the bedroom.
You were there to witness it all, and now, you see Sanji lightening his cigarette, throwing lost thoughts in the horizon.
“Hungry, huh?” - he scoffs.
3. He tells others the words he wishes to hear himself
“What’s wrong?” - a worried Sanji appears out of nowhere. You don’t know if it was your lack of being aware of your surroundings or just that he literally proofed right next to you, leaning on the deck whilst gazing up at you, checking your eyes and face for any clue or getaway to understanding your emotions.
He can read people well.
“To be honest, - so it didn’t make sense to hide anything from him. - I feel a bit useless sometimes, and I’m afraid of doing things wrong. Most of my life, I’ve been thrown away because I ‘wasn’t fit’ for the job. People would always bring me down and the ones who didn’t, would just end up disappointed. But here, right now with you… all, I don’t want that to happen. I want to be of use.”
“You’re not a tool, sweetheart. - Sanji caresses your shoulder, - you’re not meant to be used, in any way.”
Your eyes widen at his statement, taking in all that was happening in the moment.
“And what if you do mistakes? - he explains as you lean to the deck with him, both staring at the wide open sky. - If people blame you for your mistakes, they’re just being hypocritical. Those do not define your capability to thrive and fit in. You can always try again. - Sanji sighs, turning his face to you, putting a strand of hair behind your ear. - To ever think that such a kind person such as yourself is a disappointment, may be your greatest mistake yet.”
Fighting your hardest to contain tears, but it felt like swallowing a still-beating heart.
“Mhm? - Sanji widens his eyes at the sight of you shedding a few tears. - Now now, there’s no need to cry. - He sighs, gently smiling at you. - But if you need to, I’m here to hold you.”
Sanji lends you a hand to which you lend yours. He pulls you in slowly and hugs you tight, he himself feeling a bit of pain of his own.
4. He dares to dream the impossible
“Wait, I’ve heard about that? It’s the legendary sea-
“The all blue! - he excitedly interrupts. - You know, I used to read all about it and when I was working in the kitchen…. but I just knew it existed somewhere… and then I set sail because…”
Sanji began to talk about his dream. You knew that feeling when someone’s eyes seem to come alive at the mention of something they’re passionate about.
You also knew how fast that light could die if the person who’s hearing, either doesn’t care or cuts your dream as unimportant, boring, impossible or pathetic. That hurt, a lot. It takes a lot to break a dreamer, but just a little to plant in doubts.
“Sanji, - you claim with a serious voice. -never give up on that dream! It’s yours for a reason!”
The cook smiles, not expecting your reaction.
“Don’t worry, - he gazes at the horizon in front, - I’ll find it someday, and I’ll show it to you.”
He sounded contented and smiled, from which you saw a glimpse of his soul.
“Perfect, - you whisper. As the sunset was setting, Sanji’s eyes turned into a lighter shade of blue.
“Actually, you gotta stop looking for it, - you claim, smirking and crossing your arms, shifting your weight from one side to the other, - I already found the all blue, in your eyes.”
Goodness, these type of cheesy yet profound lines get Sanji every single time. You add gasoline to his fire that already burnt hotter than the rest. He puts his hands on his chest as if it was aching. Sanji falls down on his knees, punching the floor and almost crying.
“Sanji?” - you ask, confused.
“I need a moment.” - he claims, raising his index finger as he covers his bashful face.
5. He shines for all.
This one, is more of a complaint.
The more I got to know Sanji, the more selfish I become. Every touch of his, every stare, smile and laugh, I wanted him all for me.
Is it stupid or egoistical to ask the sun to shine on you alone?
Not only was he radiant, but he was away, far, so I tried to reach him. Although anytime I went close, his warmth would devour me, and I’d be unaware that I was slowly and steadily burning.
How can I turn to ashes from such intensity and yet feel so alive?
When he calls me:
“Love.”
When he kisses the back of my hand, staring directly into my eyes, as if he knew that I could surrender to those his any time.
When he listens patiently, worries and cares about me, finds time and makes effort not to allow loneliness to make me its slave.
It’s a fear, to stay in the darkness, unaware and alone. That was what I always feared, my whole life. But now,
“Aren’t you coming? Let’s walk together!”
,now I feel like I fear losing the light of the sun.

Ok now that Madoka Magica is gaining traction again, I need to make a promotion post for The Different Story, because it is a wonderful addition to the world that nobody has read and that makes me very sad.
If you don’t wanna read all this, just read the spinoff manga. Please. I beg. It’s the only spinoff that (imo) lives up to the original.
Now what is the Different Story?
Tumblr media
It’s a three volume spinoff manga (though this is the omnibus - all in one - version) that centres around Kyoko and Mami. There’s a piece of trivia that many people don’t know: Kyoko and Mami were once friends prior to the events of the TV show. This is canon, and there’s parts of the show that imply this too.
The first volume revolves around how they met, how their relationship grew, and what happened between them for the events of the anime to occur. This is pretty much canon, as it takes place before the time loops, and is adapted from a drama cd, which are directly written by the same person who wrote Madoka Magica. The next two volumes follow a potential timeline where Mami is still around when Kyoko comes back into town, and what happens from there is the rest of the story.
Why should you read it?
Because it is fucking awesome in the same heartbreaking and heartwarming way that the original show was. That’s the tldr, but if you want more in depth…
First of all, if you’re a fan of Kyoko or Mami, just stop right now and read it. You’re doing yourself a huge disservice if you don’t. They get so much development, which is nice for the two characters with the smallest amount of screen time (not that the anime doesn’t do a fantastic job). Especially Mami, who got…a bit cut off before all the big events really started happening.
Now, even if you prefer some of the other magical girls, they still get some time in the spotlight. Homura, Madoka, and Sayaka all get their moments that expand on their characters, and make you think “oh, it really could have gone this way.” If you’re a shipper, there’s also some nice content between the two big duos (so kyosaya shippers, I am one of you, please read this too).
Also the art style is a perfect match for the tv show + movie, which is a rarity for madoka magica spinoff manga.
How does this fit into canon?
As already stated, the first volume is pretty much canon. It’s the past between Mami and Kyoko. Now, the manga isn’t written by the same person who wrote Madoka Magica, but it did get the officially seal of approval from him. As such, whether the alternate timeline actually occurred in canon is personal opinion. Pretty much everyone who read it considers it canon, since it fits neatly and there’s nothing that contradicts anything already established.
I’m still hoping that we will get an anime adaption, but that’s 100% delusion.
Tumblr media
And look. It’s on sale. That’s the whole thing, and it’s also in Canadian dollars so it’s probably cheaper for everyone else. Pleaaaseeee.

Coming Soon!
Tumblr media
All right, we're doing this! The day of the full solar eclipse, April 8th, I'll be putting the second omnibus volume of The Shivadh Romances up for sale.
Askazer-Shivadlakia is “the little country by the sea” — a coastal micronation perched between France and Italy, with Europe’s only Jewish royal family and a distinctly queer-friendly culture. The irreverent but earnest Shivadh people have recently elected a new king, and there are a lot of changes afoot for the country and its rulers. (Want to know more? There's a page here with plot summaries and sales links for the series.)
In the US, the ePub will be available for $3.99, the paperback will be $24.99, and the hardback will be $34.99. Internationally, there's some variance in price of course based on local currency, but the print cost and profit margin are about the same, so you're not paying much more or less, comparatively, than the American prices. The print versions can also serve as a paperweight, doorstop, or murder weapon, so it's really a deal if you think of it that way.
The paperback and hardback are only available through Lulu; the ePub should be available through Amazon as well, but I get a much bigger cut if you buy through Lulu, so that's where I'm linking.
The Twelve Points of Caleb Canto introduces Caleb, a young trans music teacher who accidentally enters Eurovision on behalf of The Ask, and his rival and new friend -- or maybe more -- Buck Haverd, the ambitious bad-boy competitor from the UK. Dinner At The Palace is the first collection of Shivadh short stories, spanning everything from Michaelis meeting his destiny in 1978 to Gregory and Eddie going cryptid-hunting in 2022. The Royals and the Ramblers tells the story of Gregory and Eddie's three weddings, and introduces Eddie's sister Monday, who is helping the kings have a royal heir and may or may not have a thing going on with Georgie, the palace head of security. And then there's Joan, the headstrong orphan who could use a couple of dads....
Read all three in a single volume, starting April 8th!

Hey so I just found your account and omg?? it's literally so amazing 😭✋
Anyways-I was just looking through a bunch of the twist monster au headcannons/stories, and I thought of a scenario that could be done!
Basically the cast reacting to gender neutral or female reader/yuu acting stuff out in their book they are reading like poses, dialogue, just genuine reactions to the text itself
ex. Throwing the book across the room and them being genuinely concerned that something happened bc reader is just staring off into space or cursing but what actually happened was either a character died/did something embarrassing/the mc and love interest finally kiss
Anyways that's all I had in mind hope you have a good day/night! <3
Omg thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the content! QvQ
Ah, books. Such a wonderful creation humans made to fill us with raw, pure emotion or shattering our hearts and souls into a million tiny pieces—only for us to read it again and again! Don’t you just love those moments as a reader? UvU
Except for cliffhangers. Readers have a love/hate relationship with it, writers adore cliffhangers! ÒvÓ
So, what happens if we take a bookreader!Yuu (they/them) and throw them into Twisted Monsterland where even the history books read like a world guide/omnibus to a game or TV series? Oh, and I took a bit of inspiration from a Disney princess comic and a Bill Watterson “Calvin and Hobbes” comic for two of these scenarios. 😂
/-----------/
“Jeez, you sure you’ve got enough books, Yuu?”
“The librarian wouldn’t let me check out more than ten at a time,” Yuu replied, their backpack and arms filled with thick books. “Wish I could’ve gotten ten more at least, but this’ll do for now.”
“Are you sure you can even read all those before next semester?” Deuce asked in concern. “Those look pretty…dense.”
“Oh, I’ll be done in a week. Maybe a week and a half if we get a lot of homework.”
“Funya?! You gotta be kidding me!” Grim said. “Can humans read that fast?”
“Not everyone. Some people are slow readers, but that’s okay since they enjoy it at their own pace while I enjoy it at mine. Only problem for me is choosing which one of these I want to read first!”
/Later that night/
“Yuu? It’s time to eat!” Grim called out. Silence greeted him as he stared at Yuu, who was sitting on the couch with their face practically buried in a book. Frowning, the chimera padded over to the couch and repeated, “Yuu! I’m hungry!”
Still the human didn’t seem to respond, their shoulders hunching as they turned the page.
“Yuu? Yuu!” Huffing, Grim crossed his arms as he glared up at them. “You’ve been reading for the past three hours! How much longer are you gonna read that book?”
“What’s going on, pal?” one of the ghosts asked as the trio appeared.
Gesturing his paws at Yuu, he said, “They’ve been reading ever since we got back from the library today, and now they’re not reactin’ to me. It’s dinner time and they haven’t made any food yet!”
Before anyone could even think of what to say, a loud, shrill squeal filled the dorm.
“Eeeeeee!!!” Yuu squealed, a huge grin on their face as they flopped to the side and kicked their legs like a nervous rabbit while holding the book against their chest. “Omg it happened, it happened!!”
“Mrah!? What?! What happened?!” Grim yelled, wings flared out defensively while his fur bristled. “Why are you yelling!”
“My new OTP!! They finally kissed!!” Yuu said, their eyes wide as they rocked from side to side. “They kissed!! Yes!! Yesyesyesyesyessssss!!!”
“OTP? What’s an OTP??” one of the other ghosts asked.
“It’s what we like to call the ‘one true pairing’ in a story,” Yuu explained, a positively giddy expression on their face with eyes shining brighter than the stars as they struck a dramatic pose. “It’s two characters who vibe with each other on a level that you just can’t help but want them to be together—and the author brought these two together!! Yeeeeeeeee, I’m so happy!!”
“And loud,” Grim grumbled, paws clamped over his ears. “Why are you standing like that?”
“It’s how the main character professed their love for the other!”
“…are all humans as weird as you?”
“Trust me, there are people out there that are way crazier in their excitement than I am right now.”
“Really?!”
“Oh yeah. Don’t even get me started on the fanfics people write.”
“Fan…fics?”
“Oh, you sweet summer child…”
/Two days later/
“Heeeey, lil’ Shrimpy~!”
“Mm…”
“Eh…? Hey, Shrimp…why are you ignorin’ us? It’s not very nice.”
“Now, now, Floyd. One mustn’t interrupt a reader when they’re indulging in such a riveting story.”
“Shh,” Yuu muttered, their brow furrowed as they hunched closer to the book. “I’m at the best part!”
Floyd frowned as he laid his head on his arms, the basilisk slumping against the table. “Man, this is lame,” he said. “You promised to come play basketball with me today!”
“Once I finish this part, we can go do whatever you want, okay, Floyd?”
Jade hummed in amusement as he said, “A rather daring proposition you just offered, Yuu.”
“We have to do a buncha reading for class anyway,” Floyd said with a bored expression. “And Crabby and Mackerel said you finished two other books already, so what’s the point of thi-”
“AAAAIIIIIEEEEE!!?!?” Yuu shrieked, leaping out of their chair as Jade and Floyd recoiled in shock. Before the twins could react, Yuu had ducked back into their chair and pressed the book even closer to their face than before.
“…lemmie see that,” Floyd said, leaning over the table to grab it.
“No, no! It’s fine, go do something else!” Yuu said all too quickly, sinking even lower and turning away from Floyd’s reaching claws. “I think I heard Riddle in the hallway.”
“Lemmie see it!”
“No! You can’t read it!” Yuu cried out, bolting away from the table holding the book tight to their chest.
“Get back here, Shrimpy!”
“Noooo!!”
“Oh my,” Jade uttered, eyes wide for a moment before he chuckled. “Perhaps I should look into this book when they’ve finished it.”
/The next day/
“Oh no…oooh noooooo, I hate this so much!”
“Then why are you reading it?” Jamil asked, the naga curled around them. “If you don’t like it, just take it back to the library.”
“I can’t! It’s soooooo good!” Yuu said, practically throwing themselves backwards onto Jamil’s snake half with the book pressed against their face.
“Eh? But wait, you just said you hated it,” Kalim said in confusion.
“I hate it, but I love it so much,” Yuu told them with a whine, their head now touching the floor on the other side of Jamil’s snake body yet still draped over him like a cat. “This book will ruin your heart and shatter your soul into a million pieces!...you should read it too!”
“Given how dramatic you’re being, it might not be wise,” Jamil said with a sigh.
“Read it!”
“It’s okay, Yuu. We can read together! It’ll be more fun that way!”
“Kalim, no. You still need to study for the next potions exam.”
“Augh, I need someone to talk about this story with so we can lament in solidarity!”
“…have you been taking lessons from Rook lately?”
/Three days later/
“Um…is Yuu okay? They’re looking a little…tense.”
It had been several days since Yuu borrowed a stack of books, and already they had gone through nearly half of their hoard. Between classes and on breaks or after finishing tests, it wasn’t hard for students to notice the lone human with their nose between the pages of one book after the other. Even the researchers had taken note of Yuu’s behavior in between tests, making note of their expressions and how their body changes with each scene depicting their emotions. It was noteworthy how they reacted when a character in the story did something “cringeworthy and stupid” (as Yuu would explain when asked), it looked as though the human had swallowed a lemon.
At the moment they were sitting in Heartslabyul, yet another book in their arms as they sat on one side of the lounge. Cater had taken progression snapshots of Yuu’s body slowly curling into itself, eyes steadily growing wider and wider to the point it looked as though they’d bolt away in panic.
“They’re fine,” Grim told Trey as he munched on a snack. “They’ve been like this since they got all those books. That’s the pose they had last time when their Ohteevee smooched or somethin’.”
“Oh, you mean ‘OTP’, Grimmy,” Cater corrected with a smile. “That’s so cute! Our human has an OTP already~!”
“I’ve heard of hitting the books, but this is ridiculous,” Ace commented with a sigh. “They’ve been reading so long that I forgot what half their face looks li-”
“GRAAAAH!!!!”
SLAM! Fwump!!
“Gyah!?” the boys yelped, everyone staring at Yuu as they sat on the couch with a dark scowl.
“Yo, what the heck? Why’d you throw the book like that?” Ace asked, pointing at the large tome on the other side of the couch now.
“Um…Yuu?” Deuce began when they didn’t respond. “Are…you okay?”
“……I’m mad,” came the response, Yuu’s expression growing more annoyed as they stared off into space.
“About what?” Riddle asked in surprise.
Yuu’s gaze turned to the discarded book, their expression as though they had been betrayed by a trusted friend as they said, “Because my favorite character died, and I refuse to read how the book ends when there’s literally two freaking pages left! That’s not enough space to bring them back in a satisfying way!!”
“Y…you’ve gotta be kidding me,” Ace grumbled with a sigh. “That big of a reaction just because a fictional character was killed off?”
“You weren’t there to see the struggles they went through! I saw them change from an annoying bully into a fully developed and vulnerable character who wanted to take charge of their life—and the author killed them off!” Jumping to their feet, Yuu marched towards Ace and Deuce’s room where they’d left their stuff and said, “Where’s my notebook? I need to fix this!”
“What are you gonna do?” Grim called out.
“Write a fanfic, because my scrunkly deserves to be happy!”
“Huh? Scrunkly??”
/Final day/
“Oh, Great Seven…what happened in your book this time?” Vil asked with a sigh.
Yuu sniffled as they tried to dry their tears, though it was difficult as more continued to flow down their cheeks. “I…I just finished my last book,” they said, their voice cracking a little with emotion as Grim pat their arm reassuringly.
“All ten books in a week?” Vil said in surprise. “That’s…impressive. Even so, why are you so upset? Was the story that horrible?”
“No…it…it…it was too good!” Yuu cried out, clutching the book so tight that their knuckles turned white as the tears flowed freely now.
“Ah…such pure, raw human emotion,” Rook crooned. “To express it so freely without fear…beaute!”
“Was the book really that good?” Epel asked.
“Yes!” Yuu wailed. “Now that it’s over, I…I don’t know what to do with myself now…”
Peering at the title, Vil gave a thoughtful hum and said, “Oh, that story. I hear there is supposed to be a spin-off book series. The first one should have released just the other day.”
“Really?!”
“Mrrr…now you’ve done it,” Grim grumbled with a sigh. “Here we go again.”

Hi, look I don't know how much control you have over the prices of your books once they are out into the wild. But a book I was going to buy last year was 69 pounds and this year it is 98. My wage has gone up...50p an hour. I now wish I had just bought it then and kept in my cupboard and paid the postage fees to send it to my friend. I'm not expecting you to respond to this or have an answer. But I want you to be aware that you had a sale in the bag and now I don't know if I can afford it. And now, only amazon is anywhere I can even find your Sandman Edition III to complete my friend's trilogy. I encourage authors to push back if they can. <3
Hullo, I'm afraid that a) authors don't really have control over prices and b) the reason why that book has gone up so much is because of the exchange rate between the US and the UK. Last year the pound was worth a dollar and 42 cents, by last month it was down to a dollar and 8 cents. That means anything you buy that comes from the US is going to cost you more. Nobody at the publishing end of things has increased the cost of your book; a Sandman Omnibus, for example, is $150 for over a thousand pages of material, and on Amazon at 45% off it's $87 as I type this. The prices on the collected Sandman editions are whatever they always were. The collapsing British economy is what put the prices up, not the publisher and definitely not the author.
My best advice would be to check with comics shops and see if any have copies on their shelves at the prices they were at last year.
My other bit of advice at this point would be to do what you can to get the tories out.

To those sending me asks about Israel-Hamas: just to let you know that while I obviously have many things to say/thoughts about this topic, I am presently choosing not to do so. This whole thing is so radioactively toxic in all respects that I currently can't see much benefit in doing so, and I feel as if the social media pressure to Say Something on Everything generally leads nowhere good, especially right now.
I recognize that many people do come to my blog for takes on history, politics, current events, etc, and this is something I may eventually want to discuss (in one omnibus post, because I have no interest in engaging in wank about this, at all, whatsoever). But because that will require extreme precision and countless disclaimers due to the multitudes of bad-faith ways every single word can be interpreted and/or twisted, it's just not something I currently have the desire to do and/or put myself through. I do engage in a lot of substantial intellectual labor on here in terms of explaining and contextualizing things; I don't do it unless I want to, but that doesn't mean it isn't an effort, especially in situations like this one. My spoons/coping abilities are presently very low as it is, the situation itself will not be helped by whatever analytical framework I could venture to provide for it, and anything I could and/or would say would get me in trouble with someone determined to read it the worst possible way, since that's what, again, is going on right now with all of it.
As I said, I may decide to write a summary post eventually, and I will have to think carefully about when that time might be. In the meantime, you're certainly welcome to send said asks if you choose, but I'm presently making a conscious choice not to engage with it right now. Thanks for understanding!
