Fellas is it my duty to defend my garbage heap of a sister if she, who selfishly leeched off of me for years & now has a mansion because of me, gets called out for telling me to get out of that same house, poking my changed eating habits due to having turned and dismissing my trauma right after I tell her how I was tortured & almost killed?

Thud.
The sound of Azriel accidentally smacking his head on the wall as he plopped down on the sofa across from you echoed within the walls of the cabin, and you couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled out of you. Azriel’s own shaking shoulders and scrunched up nose let you know that he couldn’t help it either.
But that was to be expected wasn’t it? The past hour had been filled with nothing but bubbling laughter from the both of you, giggles from Az, and some very graceful snorts… also definitely from Azriel.
The reason why he had brought you to Rhys’ cabin in the mountains was long forgotten after the two nearly empty bottles of alcohol on the table in front of you. The heartache of getting stood up on your date earlier that evening buried under a considerable amount of drinks.
“As long as the glass is never empty in between refills, they don’t count.”
Azriel’s words from earlier came back to you, only fuelling your cramp inducing giggles.
That had always been your motto in times like these. A consistency that had lasted centuries.
“I can’t breathe,” you wheezed out in between fits of hysteria, your arms coming up to wrap around yourself. But your laughter didn’t die down, and neither did Azriel’s. Your uttered words only seemed to fire him on as he tipped over on his side, hand landing a slap on the armrest.
Seeing him like this, so free and relaxed, was rare. You could probably count each separate occasion on your hands. He only really let go like this when you needed it. When the urge to drink your walls down and flush the pain away seemed like the only remedy to whatever situation you were dealing with.
It was a very rare occurrence indeed. But one of your favourites.
Azriel’s carefree giggles, that luminous light in his eyes; you swore it could make budding flowers bloom.
You sat up straight, and the situation stopped feeling so funny as you laid eyes on Azriel’s still laughing frame. The uncontrolled giggles, and the way his wings shook in time with his chest. It was enchanting, the sight of your best friend being so relaxed, so happy.
The shadows that were usually crowding his frame were nowhere to be seen – with the exception of the lone swirl of darkness slowly snaking its way around your wrist, coming down to entwine with your fingers every now and again.
It took a couple more minutes until Azriel’s laughter had finally seized. You both sat on separate sofas, smiles stretched wide and eyes glazed over from the alcohol you had ingested, and as your breathing started to return to normal a thought struck.
“What?” Azirel asked as he leaned forward on his elbows, a curious glint in his eyes.
“What?” You prodded back, more confused than curious, blinking a few times to try and rid the alcohol-induced veil that surrounded you. What was he on about?
“Well,” he waved one floppy hand in your direction, “you just perked up, it was like you grew ten inches,” he exclaimed, before continuing in a slightly lowered, bemused voice, ”and that means you just had one of your ideas.”
The corners of your mouth quirked upwards as you slowly nodded your head. He was right – you had come up with an idea.
“Well, I was just thinking about how Feyre mentioned after the last time she was here,” you stood up from your seat, swaying slightly but quickly finding your balance, doing your very best to not bump into the table separating you. “Something about forgotten art supplies.”
Like a predator sighting a prey, Azriel’s interest piqued in a moment. His razor sharp focus was on your every step as you walked towards the supply closet at the other side of the room.
The closet was unusually dusty, a strange thing for being Rhysand’s property. He was usually very meticulous when it came to things always being spotless and presentable. But you supposed that a small, rarely used supply closet in the family cabin wasn’t a priority of his. Keeping it clean was not a good enough use of his magic.
Luckily for you, that just made your quest easier. You just had to look for whatever was covered in the least amount of dust bunnies.
“Aha!” You whipped around to face your friend, triumphantly displaying the sketch pad and charcoals in your hands.
Azriel’s eyebrows shot up at your revelation, grin still present on his beautiful face.
“That’s your big idea? Drawing?”
“You should know I used to be quite the whiz with the charcoals when I was younger,” you rebutted and Azriel’s eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly.
“I have seen your penmanship, so I will believe this talent of yours when I see it,” he muttered and you couldn’t help but gasp at the sheer audacity in his words. Your penmanship was not that bad.
Taking a few steps back in his direction with a huff, you flipped through the sketch pad in search of an unused sheet of parchment. You were gonna show him, alright…
You couldn’t help but admire Feyre’s old sketches as you went through the pages. Some you recognised as early-version sketches of paintings you had seen around the river house, and some were–
“Oh!” Your fingers froze as your eyes landed on what seemed to be an anatomical study. A very detailed, very beautiful, anatomical study of – oh my Gods. You felt your cheeks heat up.
“Is that Rhysand?!”
At the screech in your voice and the mention of his brother’s name, Azriel shot up off the sofa to get a peek at whatever had managed to pull such a reaction from you.
The warmth of his body radiated into your side as he peered over your shoulder at the drawing of the very naked high lord.
You noticed him stiffening out of the corner of your eyes and then, like a tether snapping, laughter started to boom inside the walls of the cabin. With a steadying hand on your shoulder he doubled over in giggles so contagious it didn’t take long before you joined in with his hysterics.
“No way,” he wheezed, “oh Gods – I can’t wait to tell Cassian!”
The mere thought of how Cassian would react to such a revelation, the look on his face, had you clutching your stomach. Poor Rhys would never hear the end of it.
And by the cauldron, if you don’t wake up with rippling abs tomorrow from the amount of laughter this night had brought….
“You can’t blame her though,” you mused once you managed to get your giggles under control, “I mean, nice job Feyre.” A low whistle left you as you peered down at your clearly blessed high lord.
The laughter quieted down beside you and you raised your gaze to look at Azriel, only to be met with an incredulous look.
“What, I’m just calling it as I see it!” You exclaimed and raised your hands in defence, charcoals and disrobed Rhysand still in your grasp.
His eyes flicked down to the sketch pad, before slowly coming back up to meet yours, that look never leaving his face.
“Oh, please.”
The words fell from his lips with such cool confidence your smile faltered momentarily, eyebrows knotting together.
“You can’t be serious?” He asked, and when you stayed quiet he continued, “that’s nothing.”
Nothing?
From where you were standing, respectfully, it looked like everything.
“What? Like you can do better?”
Your challenge seemed to light a spark in his eyes and time slowed as he took a step backwards, fingers coming down to grip the hem of his t-shirt.
One swift movement and his shirt was off, muscles rippling under his bronzed skin as he tossed the dark fabric on the floor, his eyes not once straying from yours.
He kept backing up, step after torturous step, until his legs hit the sofa. The corners of his mouth tugged up in a smirk as he plopped down, arms behind his head, far leg propped up, large wings casually draped over the armrest.
“Draw me then, whiz,” he challenged, using your word from earlier, “let me be your muse.”
The heat crawling up your neck, scorching the tips of your ears, were not solely from the liquor as you padded over to the opposite sofa.
No, it was from something very different. Something strikingly sobering, yet oh-so intoxicating.
You sat down and carefully placed the pad in your lap, flipping through it until you reached a blank page. You moved some hair out of your eyes and tucked it behind your ear, picked up a charcoal and brought it to the parchment – when you felt yourself hesitate. You took your lip between your teeth as you contemplated your next move. The risk. The absurdity. The excitement.
He was your friend. Your best friend, and yet…
You lifted your gaze to find Azriel’s eyes locked to yours with such focus, such challenge. Like he was sizing up an opponent on the battlefield.
His eyes flicked down to your hand, if only for a split second, as you gently put down the charcoal. He cocked an eyebrow when his gaze once again found yours.
“I just,” you took a deep breath, “I just don’t think it’s really fair on Rhys, you know?” The shadow around your wrist flickered, as if sensing what you were about to do. The lines you were about to cross.
You watched as Azriel’s eyebrows drew together, and you fought the twitching of your lips as you continued, “I mean, you are still half clothed.”
With a slight shrug of your shoulders, you watched as your words sank in. How his eyes seemed to darken, the corner of his mouth raised in the smallest of smirks.
“Is that so?” He mused, and you tried your best to level his stare. To not back down. Not shy away.
With an incline of your head, you nodded. And watched his hand inch closer to his pants. Down past that dark trail of hair, to the laces tied together at the waistband. Watched as he grabbed a hold of the string… and pulled.
You couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t focus on anything other than his hand. How his fingers untied the font of his pants so slowly, so delicately it felt like torture. You were transfixed by his fingers. Loosening the laces, his thumb slipping beneath the waistband…
You snapped your gaze up to his face, to find him still looking at you – studying you.
Your breath hitched in your throat at the sound of his pants hitting the floor. With your eyes still locked to his, your heartbeat pounding in your ears, you wondered what you had gotten yourself into. Here you were, in front of your fully naked best friend – about to draw him.
Let me be your muse.
His words from earlier echoed in your mind as you tore your gaze from his face and dragged it lower, and lower, until…
Your head emptied. Your tongue felt about as dry as the beaches you had visited in Summer last year. Because the sight that beheld you was breath-taking.
The length between his legs, standing aroused and proud, really did make Rhysand’s portrait look like nothing.
A part of you had almost hoped that Azriel’s confidence had just been for show. That it was just his competitiveness shining through, a feat to best his brother.
The reality?
Monstruos would have been a fitting word had the sight not compelled you so. Had it not caused you to burn for him. Crave him.
Delicious seemed to be a better word to describe your friend. Beautiful. Mouth-watering. A thing of art.
Which is why you picked up your discarded charcoal and put it to the parchment.
You studied the planes of his body, the hard lines, the soft skin. The muscles that could have been carved by the Mother herself. You avoided looking at his face though, instead focusing on the various scars that marred his skin, telling stories of battles and fights. Of brawls with his brothers.
You felt him looking at you, however. He hadn’t stopped looking at you. Not since the sketch pad came into play.
It made it annoyingly hard to focus.
The scratching sound of charcoal on paper stopped.
“How long have we known each other?” Your voice wavered, mouth dry. You cleared your throat and raised your gaze to finally meet his.
Azriel tipped his head to the side, contemplating, “about 400 years.”
400 years. And never before had you seen him naked. Not like this. Not splayed out like a feast, waiting to be devoured. Not with his gaze so burning you were afraid it was going to singe your clothes to ashes.
“Right,” you mumbled, eyes flicking back down to your hands. They were smudged with soot, your thumb and index finger blackened, that lone shadow still curiously snaking around your wrist.
That is a very long time.
Azriel seemed to notice how the little confidence you had faltered, for he straightened somewhat from his leisurely sprawl.
“You okay?” There was only soft concern enveloping his words, a drastic change from the tension flooding the space between you just seconds before.
It was a very long time, indeed. So why didn’t this feel wrong?
You let out a deep breath, “yes, I think so.”
Your answer apparently didn’t settle his worries though, because he raised from the sofa and rounded the table between you.
You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him as he stopped in front of where you sat.
Only when he lowered his hand – fingers coming to rest under your chin, tipping you face up – did you meet his eye.
The heartbreaking concern written all over his face seized your heart. The soft furrow of his brow. The slight dip at the corners of his pouty lips. The brutal softness swimming in those hazel eyes.
It took your breath away.
“Are you sure?” He questioned, voice barely above a whisper.
You didn’t trust your voice, not with the vulnerable proximity between you. All you managed was a meager nod. A small up and down bob of your head.
His fingers tugged on your chin, and as if in a trance, you followed the wordless command and rose to your feet.
“I need you to use your words here, sweetheart,” his voice was soft, but the underlying command was undeniable, “please.”
Your heart was pounding in your chest as you swallowed and managed to breathe out “I’m okay.”
That seemed enough to ease Azriel’s concern, a breath of relief fanning across your face.
“Good,” he murmured, almost as if more to himself.
His eyes left yours, and flicked down. To your mouth, you realised, as his thumb moved from your chin up to graze your bottom lip.
That intensity was back in his gaze, that predatory focus – all directed at you. His thumb pulled at your lip before letting go, and the shudder that overtook your body could have made the earth shake.
There couldn’t be more than a foot of space between you.
So dangerously close.
He was your friend.
Right?
“400 years,” you whispered, eyes flicking down to follow the bob of his throat as he swallowed. “400 years of friendship.”
You felt light headed. 400 years, and all could be thrown away as easy as breathing. All you had to do was take half a step.
“Three,” Azriel’s voice grumbled above you as your eyes trailed down to inspect the shallow rise and fall of his chest.
“Hmm?” Your mumble was absent minded, your thoughts being too preoccupied by the male in front of you. What he would feel like. Taste like. The sounds he would make if you dipped your head and licked up the drops of sweat beading at the center of his chest.
“That’s how long I’ve loved you. Three hundred years.”
You froze.
The thickness coating Azriel’s voice was not something you were familiar with. Nor were the words he uttered.
Your gaze snapped up to his, scanning his features for any sign that he was, for some reason, making the cruellest joke in all of Pythian’s history. But all you found was open, unguarded truth.
Azriel loved you?
Azriel loved you.
The rapid beating of your heart was a stark contrast to just how very safe you felt. How right it seemed to take that half step forward. To cradle his face in your hand, the other coming to rest on that glorious chest – right over his own heart. And as you felt that wild drumming beneath his ribs echo your own, nothing seemed as easy as rising up on the tips of your toes and slotting your mouth against his.
The kiss was tentative, like the two of you were just dipping your toes in – testing the waters. You moved your lips against his, gently, savouring the feel of his pillowy lips. The feel of his body so close to yours. How the scent of him seemed to envelop you. You savoured how easily he took all of your senses hostage.
He was everywhere.
The sound of Azriel’s wings rustling behind him, the rapid beating of his heart in his chest, the taste of liquor on his lips – it intoxicated you in a way you didn’t know was possible.
You stayed like that, gently exploring each other's lips, savouring each other's closeness, until you had no other choice but to break away for air.
You pulled away only a few inches, rapid breaths fanning your faces. The pounding of your heart didn’t seize, and neither did his. You could feel every rapid beat under the hand still planted on his warm chest.
“Your heart is beating very fast,” you whispered, voice shaky from your breathlessness.
He swallowed, “It is.”
“So is mine,” you revealed.
“Yes, I can hear it.”
Oh.
“Will you kiss me again?” Your voice was so low, you wouldn’t have known he heard you if not for the strangled sound he let out.
Or for how he grabbed you by your waist and captured your lips with his.
This time the kiss was less gentle. This time he pressed your body against his as he devoured you. It was all tongues, and teeth, and needy gasps.
His teeth pulled on your bottom lip and you thanked the Mother he was holding you so tightly, for your knees almost gave out. A throaty groan escaped you as his hand cupped the back of your neck, angling your head upwards and deepening the kiss further.
Your own hands found his hair – and pulled. The deep rumbling in his chest and the way he moaned your name into the kiss was your undoing.
This kiss wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t tentative.
It was claiming.
And so you let him claim you.
Your clothes were quickly discarded as you laid down on the sofa, Azriel’s body on top of yours. And as you crashed together, entangled limbs and sworn promises, you let those 400 years of friendship, of tension, of longing dictate the start of this new chapter.
A chapter of what would hopefully be 400 years of something more.

Hiii helloooo. Back with another request that popped into my brain if it interests you enough to write it into existence ✨ so Az lives in an apartment/condo in velaris that he rents from an old high fae lady who owns the building and she also lives there with her granddaughter (YN/reader/OC) who is def his mate but they dance around it for her sake (and her poor old grandmother’s lol) since she’s still young for a fae. Oh and idk why but I imagine Az having a cat that reader takes care of while he’s on missions. Once a week, without fail, Az has breakfast with the old lady and her granddaughter. If he’s going on an extended mission, he always lets them know he won’t make it and he tells them in person or sends his shadows with the message. One time, he gets severely injured before he’s able to send word that he won’t make it to breakfast. The old lady sends her granddaughter to the townhouse to look for Az and feyre or cassian answers the door and is completely baffled that a girl and her cat are asking around for the spymaster. Like “well he didn’t come for breakfast today and he ALWAYS comes for breakfast and grandma was worried and so was (insert cute cat name) and she wouldn’t stop yowling so I had to bring her to look for him too” reader is def an awkwardly endearing rambler. (And if the cat is buddies with his shadows that would be totally adorable too 🥹) and then maybe it ends off with her (gently) smacking azriel upside the head while he’s on his sickbed healing because how dare he not tell her and her grandma that he was going to get injured and miss their weekly breakfast 😡 feel free to change anything up if you end up writing it!!

To say you were nervous as you approached the High Lord's townhouse was an understatement.
In the 4 all too short and unexpected years of knowing Azriel, the last of which had been spent as much more than just friends, he had never missed breakfast with you and your grandmother. And if he had, it had come with a note or prior notice.
He had not shown up today, breaking your grandma's heart as she had prepared his favorites. It had set worry into your heart, though. Worry you masked as the two of you ate in deafening silence.
You two had hidden the growing romance so well. You didn't want to ruin the illusion now and risk your grandmother becoming protective over your youth and, of course, his reputation and profession.
You held his black kitten closer to you, kissing her little white paws as she mewed softly. She had protested you leaving his apartment to look for him without her, wanting to live up to her name as you tucked her into the hooded jacket you had custom-made to carry the kitten.
The poor baby probably missed her owner, her constant companion, more than she could truly express. You were used to caring for her when he was gone, but he normally always left one or two shadows for her to play with, and today, they were gone.
You'd had a whole explanation planned, rehearsing it quietly on the walk here over and over, but it went out the window the second you opened your mouth. You rushed through the words, stumbling over them as you looked down and away from him. "EverysundayAzrielhasbreakfastwithmygrandmaandIbuthedidn'tshowuptodayandInjstwantedtoknow-"
You shook the feeling of dread building in your stomach and knocked. You would be lying if you said you were not scared when the High Lord himself answered his own door studying you like a textbook. "What can I help you with?"
Rhysand held a hand up to you, scenting the faint smell of cedar and night air that clung to you and smirking before masking it. "Breathe. Start over slower." He tilted your head up to him. "And look at me when you speak to me. You are not a mouse."
You took two deep breaths, cradling Dective Mittens closer. "My grandmother owns the apartment complex Azriel lives in," the High Lord's lip twitched, the final confirmation he needed. "And every Sunday, he had breakfast with us. The only time he doesn't, he lets us know with a shadow or a note or verbally before he leaves. He did not come today, and he was supposed to be back 3 days ago. I just wanted to know if you've heard from him?"
"You're the female he's been missing family brunch for." It wasn't a question. Just a statement. Rhysand kicked off the door frame. "Come inside. He's here. He's hurt, but he will be fine." He glared towards the small kitten in your arms. "And where did that come from?"
"Detective Mittens?" He nodded, continuing to glare. "Azriel's cat? You didn't know he had a cat? She got upset when I tried to leave her in his apartment, so I brought her with me so she'd stop crying and yowling."
Rhys pinched his noses, shoulders shaking as he chuckled. "And who named Detective Mittens?"
"Azriel? It was Detective Mittens or Princess Buttercup. She isn't a Buttercup."
His eyes were watering from laughter, shoulders fully shaking as he led you further into the house and up the stairs. He held his arms out, nodding towards the cat as he stepped in front of a room. "Stay behind me," the High lord entered with a casual grace, stopping a conversation between two deep voices. Azriel's and one you didn't know.
The black collar with a small piece of Azriel's siphon was barely visible among Mittens's long black fur. She finally freed herself, leaping into the bed and walking to lay on Azriel's chest. "How did you get here, baby?"
Mittens was immediately squirming and clawing, desperate to get to her owner and get the cuddles she had been missing. "Did you go outside and pick up a random cat, Rhysie?" A large illyrian male, Cassian, you realized, sat staring with a brow up. "Or did you steal someone's cat? It has a collar."
"Some pretty little thing was at the door. Dropped the cat off and then ran away."
A shadow had already found you, twirling into your hand and ripping you towards Azriel the best it could by itself. Soon, two more joined, then three more, then your whole arm was swallowed in darkness, pulling you to the side of the bed Cassian was not occupying. "Y/n," it came out as soft surprise, happiness underlying the tone. "Angel, what are you doing here?"
"It's Sunday." The answer hit him, and his head fell back, eyes shutting as Cassian and Rhys shared a look.
He tried to sit up, only to be stopped by Cassian's arms, guiding him back down as he winced in pain. "Angel, I'm so sorry. I-"
"Don't apologize for getting hurt," Cassian said gently. The general looked at you. "Breakfast girl?" You nodded. "One. Breakfast was mine and Azriel's thing first until you showed up," a playful glare went your way. "Two. We dropped the ball. He was hurt. Bad. And we knew he was seeing someone, but it's been kept so secret by a certain spymaster that we couldn't contact you."
"Should have just spoken to the complex owner," Rhys muttered under his breath.
You nodded. "And, will you be okay?"
Azriel was focused in Mittens, scratching her ears as she rolled over, exposing the fur of her tummy and waiting. The three of you stared in silence, watching as he cooed and baby spoke to her. Watching as a few tears slipped. "Missed you so much, my little baby. Aw, look at that belly. Y/n been doing the best job keeping it full and happy, huh?"
Rhys and Cassian both hid their smiles, the High Lord motioning for the general to leave the room. You sat on the bed, taking his free hand in yours, bringing it to your cheek and holding it there. "I was so worried."
Mittens moved to the window as if she suspected you two needed room, allowing you two alone time before she'd be back to cover Azriel in her love and warmth.
He wanted to sit up, to hold you close, but every slight movement of his core had nerves screaming in hot agony. He'd never mock Cass for being a bitch while hid guts were hanging out ever again. He settled for moving his hand to your neck, pulling you close and resting your foreheads together. "Im so sorry, y/n," he kissed your nose, eyes closing as yours did. "I got distracted, and it happened so fast I couldn't get word out."
Your hands came to rest on his bandaged chest. "What happened? You never get distracted." He smiled, a rare beautiful thong he hid from everyone but you.
"You accidently tugged the bond when you and Mittens were playing, and all I could think of was getting home to be with you two. Did you catch that stray?" He changed the subject, looking at you with hopeful eyes.
A small orange tabby had been roaming around the apartments. Short little fur "doing nothing," in Azriel's words, to protect it from the Night chill. Azriel has been smitten with it since it allowed him to feed him and get a few scratched in before a shop owner scared it away.
That was over a month ago, and you two had been playing a slow game of seduction with the kitten, praying to the cat distribution powers that they'd allow this little one to trust you both the way Mittens grew to.
"I did. He's in my apartment. Him and Mittens get along really well." As of hearing her name, a mass of black fur launched herself onto the bed, curling up on Azriel's leg that was closet to you and purring. "I named him Investigator Whiskers."
You watched Azriel melt, groaning with a smile at the matching name. You could feel through that string his growing happiness as the same family you two had accidentally made grew, too. "I love you," he whispered softly with no sign of the ice Rhys had so loudly accused him of having in his heart.
"I love you, too. I'm glad you're going to be okay." Rhys and Cassian came back in to you two resting your foreheads against each other again, eyes shut, heart beats synced in time.
It made it even more comical to them when Azriel thought nothing of your hand moving up his arm, rest in his hair before you pulled away, and smacked him. "Ow! Y/n! What the fuck!"
"That," you smirked as you caught his hand that came to playfully tug your hair, "is for worrying my grandma. She made your favorites! You broke her heart! She thinks you hate us!"
"I was hurt!"
"Excuses, excuses!" He pulled you into him, not caring if the good of you had an audience and kissed you deeply. "Mmmm, forgiven," you muttered when he pulled away.
Azriel sighed. "Rhys, can you go get grandma. I think we need to tell her some things. And have lunch."
"Lunch sounds nice," Cassian said as he took his seat and glared at you. "Breakfast theif."
"Boyfriend theif," you shot back.
The room turned into you and Cassian having a playful argument as Azriel watched, fingers scratching behind soft velvety ears. He looked at Rhys, eyes warm with joy and happiness as Rhys looked between you and Cassian, who had fallen together like a puzzle. I like her, Rhys said into his mind. Keep her.
That's the plan, Azriel replied.

"Where are we going mama?" Melaina asks, holding my dress in her fist as she peers up at me. I was preoccupied with doing my hair though there was little I could do to salvage it so inevitably I gave up, wearing it in my usual style.
"We're going to auntie Feyre's." I squat down and pick the two year old up, propping her on my hip as I put on a shimmering lip gloss.
"Will uncle Cass be there!" She asks enthusiastically, her wings ruffling in excitement. "Probably not Laina, but Nyx will be there to play with you and your brother." I offer her a warm smile. Her disappointment of the news about Cassian quickly diminishes when I mention her favorite cousin. "Uncle Rhys will be there then?" Her dark brows shoot up and I nod with a loving look. "Mhm." I reply. "You guys will have a playdate while your dad and I go on our own date." I boop her nose and she rears back with a giggle. "I wanna go with you and dad too." She swings her legs from side to side, watching as I cleaned up my vanity with my freehand, her much smaller one helping me put my lipgloss back in its pouch.
"I’d love that but I'm sure Nyx has something planned for you and Kiran." I say, leaving the bathroom and tapping off the mage lights. "Auntie Feyre even said she went to the market and bought everything to make cookies." I inform and her hazel eyes widen. I have to blink to make sure it wasn't Azriel's eyes looking at me, she truly is the carbon copy of my mate. But her attitude couldn't have been more evidently me. Vice versa for Kiran, if there was a boy version of me it'd be my son. Az was convinced both kids looked exactly like me but I couldn't pick out one feature our daughter inherited from me aside from the natural femininity every girl possessed.
"Az, honey are you ready?" I call to the male, walking out of the hall with Melaina in my arms. I spot him kneeled on the floor, tying Kiran's shoes who was preoccupied playing with one of the spymaster’s shadows. I set Laina down and she rushes up to her Father, tackling his back with her expert climbing skills. The shadows leave Kiran and speed toward me, rushing around my dress and making the silk skirt twirl. "You look like a princess mama!" Kiran gasps and a bright smile curves my features.
"And dad's your knight and shining armor." He smiled brightly. I walk towards the boy, mirroring his grin. "I think your father has been telling you too many bedtime stories." I ruffle his hair and he snickers. I look to my mate as he reaches back and gets ahold of our daughter, she cackles brightly as he flips her around and tosses her onto the couch.
"She's going to get hurt." I warn the shadow singer. "Again! Again!" Laina jumps on the couch as she practically demands her father to throw her into the roof. I release a soft sigh. "We have to go Laina, but when we come back I’ll make sure to toss you all you want." He tickles her sides and she squeals, squirming away from him and to the other side of me, both the kids now leaning against my legs, my hands coming to their heads and combing my fingers through their pitch black hair.
Azriel looks at me, his eyes widening the slightest fraction. The shadow that always remains by his side leaves him, only to weave through my hair. "Ready?" I tilt my head at him. He blinks, as if he's at a loss for words. His eyes flick from mine to our two children's, then back up to mine. I'd never seen hazel hold more devotion until now, eyes shining with something that made my heart ache.
"Azriel?" I prompt with a gentle tone. He seems to break free of his stupor, taking two long legged strides forward before cupping my cheeks and pulling me in for a soft kiss. Both the children groan and stuff their faces into my skirt, muttering something about cooties. I smile against his lips but he doesn't seem to want to back away any time soon, his hand slipping into my hair and holding me onto his lips until I have to physically press a hand to his chest and push him away. He hums in satisfaction, resting his forehead against mine. "How is it that I got so lucky?" He wonders rhetorically. "We're going to be late." I ignore his comment that makes me flush pink.
"Mama c'mon!" Laina pulls at my hand and I lean down, picking her up yet again. Azriel does the same with Kiran. "Close your eyes okay Laina?" I bring my hand up to her cheek and she nods, squinting them shut before clinging onto me tightly. "Ready." I say to the male beside me, intertwining our fingers with my free hand.
Azriel wasted no time in shadow-walking the four of us, entering the dark realm briefly. Laina shivered at the cold, squeezing around me tighter. "You're okay." I whisper, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. I look over to Kiran only to find him marveling at the dark realm, utterly fascinated at the way the black swirled around us.
My mate was as quick as he could be in pulling us back into the light for Melaina's sake. She's never liked the dark, always been afraid of it. Kiran however might as well have been labeled a vampire, as a baby he'd cry and wail if even a sliver of light seeped into his bedroom in the morning. I knew it pained Azriel to see our daughter so afraid of his own power, but some part of me believed  he enjoyed showing Laina that there was nothing to be afraid of, that the dark can be your friend when there's nothing else, that he'll always be there when there's nothing else.
"Okay, all done." I let go of Azriel's hand in order to lift Laina from my shoulder. "Do you wanna ring the doorbell?" I offer and the light in her eyes returns. She nods with fervor and I smile, placing her down onto the lawn as she races up the porch, Kiran quickly scurrying after her.
"Kiran was right, you do look like a princess," Azriel slips his scarred hand back into mine. "I’m glad you’re my knight in shining armor then." I bump his shoulder playfully and he smiles, the casual intimacy making my heart feel like it was expanding.
The door swings open, revealing a four year old Nyx and his mother. The twins invite themselves in, running through the large house to Nyx's room. "Thank you for this." I look to my high lady and she smiles as if to say it's no problem. "It's honestly not too much work, they distract each other." Feyre shrugs, moving from the doorway and inviting the both of us inside. I step passed the threshold, the house warm like a mothers embrace.
"They ate before we came so it's only dinner they need, and neither of them napped today so they'll be passed out by eight—" I begin before my mates scarred hand comes to my shoulder. I clamp my mouth shut and look to him. "Feyre's raised a kid before my love." He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. I release a soft sigh, this is the first time I've ever left the children for longer than a few hours— every what if? thought coursing through my mind.
"I understand," Feyre says and I look to her. "Or do you not remember the first time I left Nyx overnight?" She arched her brow. A small smile curves my lips as I remember the way she managed to check in every five minutes on any updates using her daemati powers. "Right, thank you again." I pull her in for a hug and she returns the action quickly, her warm spirit relaxing every nerve in my body.
"Aunt Fey!" Kiran comes toddling down the hallway with the two other kids trailing behind him. "What is it hon’?" She breaks from the hug to look at the boy. "Can we go outside?" He bounces on his toes excitedly. "Say goodbye to your mom first and then we can." She nods and they do as told.
Kiran attacks me in a hug, latching onto my legs. I grin and bend down, placing a soft kiss to his forehead. "We'll be back in the morning, have fun okay?" I say and he nods his head eagerly before walking over to his father who watched us intently. Melaina wrapped her arms around my neck tightly, hugging me like she didn't want me to go. "I wish I could come on the date too." Laina pouts as she pulls away. "Well my date unfortunately doesn't have cookies like yours does." I hum and her eyes light up with delight, a big smile coming to her face, two little dimples creasing her cheeks. Same as her father.
I tuck her hair behind her ears, short black strands that came down to her chin. When she cut it she claimed she wanted to look more like her Aunt Amren, which somehow made the Amren herself crack a small smile. "If you get too scared of the dark just cuddle in with your brother alright?" I tilt my head and she nods with a bobble of her head. "Okay, I'll see you in the morning my dear." I lean forward and press a kiss to her cheek. Kiran comes back to me, tugging at Laina's hand and angling for outside. "I love you both, have fun okay?" I raise my brows at them like it's a command. They both agree before rushing off toward the backyard with Nyx.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I smile toward Feyre, intertwining my hand with Azriels. "I'll have a bottle of wine waiting." She cheekily grinned and I returned it. "Alright, c'mon." The shadow singer leads me toward the front door. "Thank you!" I call to the high lady once again before Azriel gets me out the door and away from the wards.

"It's weird being without them." I mutter across the table to my mate, a plate of freshly made food just set in front of me. "I feel like apart of me is missing." I look down at my figure as if I've forgotten my purse at home. Azriel reaches forward and intertwines our hands. "I can remember a time when it was just me and you." He hums as I trail the tip of my finger down the streams of white scarring his hand. "Feels like a century since it's been only us." I sigh, my shoulders falling as if a weight had lifted from them. "It's been a very long two years." I mumble and he gives me a warm smile, the candle light flickering over his sharp features.
The restaurant we stayed in was one of the nicest in Velaris. It held an elegant atmosphere, navy colored walls with a ceiling made entirely out of glass, allowing you to peer up and see the night sky's perfect full moon that illuminated the entire place, the only other lighting is the tall, skinny candles at each of the tables creating a cozy ambiance. The furnishings were more comfortable than the ones at our own home and the ornate dishes were golden rimmed. Some old part of me wanted to say we couldn't afford something like this, but we could. With the outlandish salary Rhys supplies both of us, we had enough to buy this entire restaurant with extra to spare.
"Sooner or later they're going to be teenagers." Azriel grumbles and it pains me to think about. Life moved so fast, the childhood phase is the shortest stage of a faeries life. I couldn’t help but think that I’d blink and they’d be full grown adults. "Laina will start getting boy's attention." I sing in a teasing tune and Azriel's gaze hardens. "Yeah right, she won't be dating until I'm dead." He leans back in his chair defensively. I have no doubt that her two uncles have the same thoughts as well.
She's the only girl, so far, though it's been up in the air whether or not Cassian and Nesta would be having babes. But at the moment, Melaina seemed to be the sole heart of all three males and it had become their mission to protect her at all costs, little do they know it'll be Mor and I sneaking her into parties.
I smile at the idea, looking to him. "What are you thinking about?" He narrows his eyes on me curiously, shadows swirling up my ankles. I debate telling him the truth or not but decide on changing the subject entirely. "We're going to be alone tonight for the first time in a while," I hum. "I might have a small surprise for when we get home." I shrug and his eyes glow like he's about to winnow us straight back to the house. I ignore the lust in his gaze and pick up my fork, flicking my eyes up to him then back down to my plate. "You can't just say that and then expect me to go on." He grumbled, grabbing his own utensil. "Can't I?" A smirk tugs at my lips and he glowers in reply, watching as I dig into my warm meal.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
"Can we fly?" I plead, pulling at my mates hand as we stroll down the cobblestones toward The Cabin, which we needed to winnow to otherwise we wouldn’t be able to make it before sunrise. "Flying takes a long time too my love," He said matter of factly, "Just for a few minutes, please?" I wrap my free arm around his bicep and he gives me a contemplated look but I know I've got him hooked. "Then we can winnow, promise." I squeeze his hand and he releases a long sigh before stopping in his tracks and opening his arms out for me.
I waste no time in jumping straight into them, latching my arms behind his head and securing my legs at his torso, his hands coming under my thighs to support me. "Ready?" He arches a brow and I nod with a giddy smile. He stifles his own grin before the boom of his wings blasted us up into the air. I shrieked and held onto him tighter, my chest flush against his— afraid I might slip from his grasp.
His large arms held me tighter, tucking me close as I stared down below us, the buildings growing smaller and smaller as we flew higher. My breath hitched when noticing how far we are from the ground. "You always want me to fly you but every time we do you seem so scared." He intones and I snuggle closer into his neck. "I forget I'm scared of heights." I mumble into his skin, clenching my eyes shut. "I won't drop you." His voice is stern as if he had to convince me. "I know." I hum. "Do you want me to put you down?" He offers and I shake my head.
"Sooner or later our kids will be flying too," I say. "I don't want to be left out." I explain and he chuckles. "I'm pretty sure you don’t want to be apart of flying lessons." He informs and I roll my eyes. "You are not pushing our children off a cliff." I rule as if it wasn't a given. "How else will they learn?" His brows crease like he knows no other way. "Just because that's how you learned doesn't mean that’s how they need to learn." I grumble. "But as long as you don't send them to Windhaven I won't complain." I sigh. He bristles at the idea. "I'd never send Laina there." He mutters.
"I hate that place." I bite out. I know at one point it felt like heaven to Azriel, to be out of a cell and finally able to be a kid. Even if that meant being at a place where you get lashings as encouragements, it was better than that windowless prison. "But I think our daughter would be ruling that place in a week's time." I snort, making light of the idea. He didn't reply, which told me he didn't want to dwell on it any longer than he already has.
I rest my head back down onto his shoulder, staring at the three mountains in the distance, stars twinkling above them, shimmering in the dark night like they're trying to get me to notice them. I turn my head to look toward where we’re going, spotting the two twin peaks in the distance where I knew the Cabin sat between, a promise of warmth and security lied there and I decided I had enough cold wind and tall heights for the night.
"You can winnow us now." I state. "Thank you for flying me." I add and he presses a kiss to the top of my head. "Anytime." His arms squeeze tighter around me before he's pulling us from the sky and down onto the ground.
Darkness envelops us, taking us from one realm to another before we’re directly in front of the cabin.
I release a content sigh as he sets me down onto the ground, his wings stretching out before tucking behind him again. I march up the pathway to the front door, undoing whatever protection wards Rhys put on this house. I open the door and step into the foyer, Azriel following after me.
I kick off my heels and allow the warm air to comfort me as I waltz further into The Cabin, my dress swishing around me as I turn to find Azriel plopping down onto the couch, his head lying on the armrest while his long legs hung over the edge. “C’mere.” He reaches towards me, shadows pushing at my back so I can find my way to him. He grabs me by the hand as soon as I’m in reach then yanks me down onto him. I gasp and slam a hand into his chest, attempting to catch myself. A smile curves his features as I settle atop him, my arms coming around his neck while his hold remains roaming my waist.
I stuff my face into the crook of his neck, cuddling into him further. “I missed you.” I mumble. “You see me everyday.” He chuckled, his hand coming higher to my back as he spoke. “I miss just us.” I correct. “I miss just us too” My mate sighs and I pick my head up, looking at his sharp features, running the tip of my finger down his nose, across his jawline, over his brow; all while he stares up at me with all too much love in his eyes. “You’re so pretty.” I hum softly, tilting my head at him. He reaches up and tucks a stray piece of hair behind my ear. “I was going to say the same thing about you.” He looks up at me like I’m the only person on the continent, and I know his eyes aren’t the color of the ocean but I can’t help myself from drowning in them.
I lean down and press a kiss to his lips and it was lovely. No distractions, no duties or things I needed to worry about, and no children. Just him and I. He chases me back to him when I pull away and I smile into it, pressing my chest to his as I press him impossibly closer. His tongue swipes over my bottom lip and a small gasp slips from my lips, I quickly open my mouth a little wider and allow his entrance. His tongue passes my lips and explores every inch it can find, swirling around my own tongue before flicking it out. I whine when he starts to rear back, granting him an open mouth kiss, he hums against me, his hand snaking up to the nape of my neck and tugging me closer.
I pull away and he allows me to, our pants from lack of air fill the room and a drunken smile spreads over my lips as I look down at him. “Can I have that small surprise now?” He asks in between breaths. “Bedroom.” I utter. “I’ll show you in the bedroom.” I explain. His eyes glow golden and he wraps his arms tighter around me before standing up, my legs fastening around his torso as he carries us down the hall and into the first bedroom he comes across.
I kiss him again, his eyes flutter shut and he turns, pressing my back against the door and shutting it, his tongue dips into my mouth yet again, eager to taste me. I untwine my legs and slowly settle my feet down onto the ground. “Go sit on the bed.” I whisper against his lips. He nods but doesn’t dare break the kiss, his hands on my waist pulling me with him as he guides us both back to the mattress.
He settles down onto the bed and I back away from the kiss, shadows swirling around my back and slowly unzipping my cobalt blue dress, the silk dipping from my shoulders as I pull the straps off. I leisurely strip myself from the clothing and his eyes swallow every new inch of skin I reveal before letting it fall entirely to pool at my feet. He swallows thickly as his eyes rake all the way back up my figure, taking in the lacy lingerie set I wore just for him, the light blue material hugging every curve and dip of my body, delicate lace cupping over my most sacred areas and he looked as if he was about to tear the garments to shreds.
After a few moments of just allowing him to stare I step forward, settling my hands on his shoulders and taking a seat on his lap, straddling his hips. His scarred hands immediately come to my hips, fingers digging into my plush skin as a repercussion of his restraint. “Az,” I call. His eyes flick back up to mine and I dig my nails into his shoulders. “I need you.” I sigh out, winding my hips down onto his only to find how hard he is beneath me.
He wastes no time in flipping us over, pushing us up the bed so my head comes down to rest on the pillows. His forearms on either side of my head as he hovers over me. One of my hands comes to his bicep, my nails digging into the muscle as I feel his heavy member press down onto me. My other hand weaves into his hair, combing my fingers through it as he begins attacking my neck, every bare inch he can reach becomes his to claim and his only, marking and biting and sucking with all the fervor in his body. I release soft moans as I grind my hips up onto him, showing him how badly I needed him.
“Fuck, Az I’m begging you.” I whisper, pulling at a tuft of his dark hair in my fist. He detaches from his suction on my neck, looking up at me with half lidded eyes before he’s dipping further down, kissing a line through my breasts, down my ribs and past my navel until his lips reach my panty line. My breath catches in my throat as his hand latches onto the expensive material and he tears them straight off of me, his strength too much to control as he rips the lace into two and discards them off elsewhere.
“Azriel,” I cry out as he presses a kiss to just above where I wanted him. He smiles against my skin and I whimper, brows creasing as he teases the area. He stared right at my core, I attempt to squeeze my legs shut in embarrassment but shadows twine around my ankles and I’m suddenly strapped down onto the bed, incapable of moving my legs— so instead I begin to writhe, rolling my hips in need of any form of friction. “Please.” I sigh out breathlessly. He maintains eye contact with me as his head moves down and his tongue drags right through my neglected folds. I release a soft cry at the feeling, clenching around nothing as I slowly grind my hips up onto his face, his nose rubbing at my clit which drags a moan from the base of my throat.
He swipes his tongue lower, making contact with my slit and I groused with pure need. “Az.” My voice is a pitiful whisper, both of my hands now pulling at his dark locks. He growls at the sound of his name on my lips, the rough noise against my core sending vibrations up my spine and I mewl. At the distraction he takes his chance to thrust his tongue deep into my entrance.
My brows clench together at the sudden pleasure, hips stop grinding now that he did all the work for me, flicking his tongue in and out of me. “Gods, y’so good at that.” I pant in need of more. Shadows guide my legs over his shoulders as he feasted on me as if he hadn’t eaten for weeks and was on the brink of starvation, that I was his only source of life and he needed to ravage me, to consume me entirely. Dark tendrils swirl to the apex of my thighs, their touch teasingly cold as they flowed closer and closer to my most sensitive area.
A shriek escapes me as they find my clit, circulating tightly around the area, pulling moan after moan from me. The mix of the shadows and his tongue has my legs clenching around my mates head, forcing him deeper into me and his tongue finally finds that perfect spot. “Fuck, there.” I whine, pulling at his hair. His fingers press into my plush thighs hard enough to bruise as I chase my release.
“Az— need to cum.” I whimper and in reply he delves into me deeper, drinking every drop of my slick as it seeps out of me. Then he does something utterly wicked with his tongue, twisting it sharply right on that bundle of nerves and I find my release. Wailing at the intense feeling as ecstasy flooded into my very bones. In a moment of pure relief my legs begin to shake, shadows guiding them off of the spymaster’s shoulders and down onto the bedsheets I’ve soaked with my own arousal.
He leaves my entrance and move to my folds, lapping up any juices as shadows slowly leave my clit and his tongue does light kitten licks through my aching cunt, savoring the taste of me in his mouth as he does so.
He licks his lips once he fully backs away, coming back up to hover above me before crashing his lips down onto mine, allowing me to taste myself on his tongue as he slides it into my mouth the same way he had just done with my sex. I buck my hips up onto the rough material of his pants, already in need of his attention.
“Fuck me.” I plead against his mouth with a soft murmur. “Want it rough, Az.” I whine and he backs away from my lips at the request. “Then get on your knees.” He commands in a voice that could only belong to one of the most feared men in the Night Court. I scramble to do as he says, my thighs aching as I flip around and hike myself up onto all fours. “Fuck, you’re so good for me.” He presses a kiss to the top of my spine, his large hands rubbing over the curve of my ass. “Please Az, need your cock.” I beg and he plans to give me exactly what I want.
There’s a ruffle of clothes behind me but I’m too distracted by the feeling of his shadows unclasping my bra, slipping it off of my shoulders and carrying it over to the rest of my discarded garments. Calloused hands cup my now exposed breasts, massaging them as his thick shaft presses into my folds and I can’t help but rub myself on his length, lubing him needfully. One of his hands leaves my breast, splaying across my skin as it traveled all the way down, further and further until reaching his own sex and aligning it with my entrance.
He places a gentle kiss against my shoulder blade before pushing the head of his heavy cock inside of me. I grip the sheets under my hands as I adjust to the wide stretch. “Fuck,” I sigh out as he slowly drives deeper and deeper. I whine out his name as he pulls to the tip then fills me up further than before. “Harder,” I grunt out. “Need more.” My mumble seems to reach him because next thing I know he’s picking up the pace, shoving himself into me inch by inch, filling me up to the brim.
He hits that perfect spongy spot and I gasp in pure pleasure. “Right there, fuck— right there.” I moan out and he smiles against the sweaty skin of my shoulder. “I’m barely halfway, baby.” He informs and my stomach flutters. I swallow thickly, forgetting how long he is and gods he was already in so deep, thrusting into me as hard as he could and splitting me into two. I scream as he continues to abuse that sensitive spot, pushing past it and stretching me around him, molding me to him as he marveled at how tightly I clenched his thick member.
I choke out a sob as his hips finally meet mine and I know he’s entirely sheathed inside of me. He stays there for a moment, delighting in the feeling of my walls contracting around him so perfectly. “That’s it love, taking me so well.” He hums and I nod in a pitiful attempt to please him, show him I’ll agree to whatever he wants as long as he continues to fuck me senseless.
He pulled all the way out to his tip, his cock gleaming in my slick and just as I was about to whine for more he snaps his hips and his heavy balls slap against my folds, striking home as he continues to pummel me with his length over and over again. My arms supporting me, buckle, and my head falls into the pillows. He groans at the new position, hitting so much deeper now. His hand went to my hair and he pushed my face into the mattress making breathing a laborious task but gods did it make it all so much better.
“You’re such a good girl,” He groans. “Just a perfect sleeve f’me aren’t you?” I reply with a mewl into the pillows. He grips my hair tighter and yanks me up, my back flush against his bare chest. “Say it.” He demands, his mouth finding purchase at my neck, hands sliding up to grope my breasts. “I’m just a perfect sleeve for you, Az.” I mumble helplessly, my mind blank as he fucks any coherent thoughts out of me. He twitches inside of me at the way I sound, so needy for anything he’s willing to give.
“Please, m’gonna cum.” I warn and he only knocks into me harsher, more forceful each time he shoved his sex into me. I pulse around him, my clit throbbing as shadows slip between my legs to soothe it, cold tendrils rolling over the puffy area. “Already?” He taunts and I nod with a pathetic whimper, my head falling back to rest against his collarbone, his thrusts not letting up for even a moment, instead going faster, forcing me to hold back from my merciless release, not allowing me to reach that high until he says I can.
“Azriel— s’too much I can’t.” I cry, tears brimming my eyes as he pounds every last inch of him farther into me. “You can baby, so take it like the good girl you are.” He commands and a tear slips from my eyes, his rough hands squeezing my breasts harder at the sound of my sobs.
He continues his relentless treatment, biting at my neck and adding so much more to the pleasure of it all. It’s been years since he’s fucked me like this, since he’s claimed me as his.
“Breed me.” I beg. He twitches inside of me at the lewd words. “Yeah?” He whispers into the shell of my ear. “You want me to fill you full of my cum?” He asks and I nod, relishing every drag of his cock along my walls. “Want me to get your belly round again, get your tits leaking from this cock?” Again I nod, it’s all I can do to refrain from begging him to let me have my beckoning orgasm. I grind my hips down onto him at his filthy words but the movements do nothing to soothe the ache rooting deep inside of me.
“Fuck,” His forehead rests against my shoulder as I wind down on him particularly hard. “You can cum.” He allows. It takes little time before my orgasm sprouts in the pit of my abdomen, spreading through my core and down to my jolting legs. He thrusts hard into me as I suck all of him in, walls fluttering around his cock and soon he was injecting every last drop of his seed into me.
Our noises filled the room as his warm release soothed every nerve in my body. He removed himself from me after a few thrusts, his cum dripping out of me and down onto my thighs messily. “You did so good.” He praises, guiding me down onto my back as he lays me down onto the pillows.
I release a soft sigh as he wraps his hold around my back and sinks his weight down between my legs, his chest flush against my breasts.
“Can you take more?” He asks in a soft voice, one that told me if I said no he’d be okay with it. But I didn’t know the next time we’d get the chance to be like this with each other again, so I nodded my head yes. “Mhm.” I utter and he smiles into my neck, kissing up the column of my throat while hardening again and I have remember the full extent of what I’ve got myself into.

It's been one month.
One month of Healing.
When azriel left, I told myself that I will not contact him until I'm ready. Doesn't matter how much I'm missing him or wanting him. I will not talk to him until I know I won't take him back the second I see him again.
I gave myself two days. Two days to sulk all I wanted. I spent the whole time crying and feeling miserable about myself. Before Az left at least, I wasn't by myself. At least I saw him once a day.
Now? Nothing.
I am totally alone. His absence hit me Hard. Everything I saw, almost brought me to my knees.
The kitchen where we would make dinner together, laughing and joking with each other that many times ended with us covered in flour and syrup.
The couch where we would sit cuddling and talking until we fell asleep, always waking up with strained muscles.
His office where he would sit on his chair in front of his desk, writing out reports and whatnot while I sit in his armchair reading my book. Just enjoying each others company and occasionally taking breaks to make out on the very deck, and then some.
After those dreadful days though, I called Feyre and Mor and had a very much needed girls night. We took out a wine bottle and I spilled everything to them. My mind was too drunk to think my feelings about Elain might offend Feyre but she genuinely felt sad for me and embarrassed about her sister. The poor girl even apologised to my about Elain's behavior to which I immediately told her it wasn't her fault.
When I told them how lonely it got being alone in a big house like this, they suggested maybe I should get a job or something to keep my mind distracted and promised that they'll visit me often. So I did juat that.
I found a part time job at a local library. I have to admit, I'm really enjoying it. I'm the second assistant to the sweetest lady, Hilda, who owns the shop. I don't do much, just help her in small things like adjusting books on self or helping in shipping books out or in. Layla, the first assistant, handles most of the work around the shop. My job is basically doing what she asks of me. The salary isn't much but I don't care because it's never been about money.
The first week was very hard. Everyday after I came home, the silence felt like a slap on the face, reminding me of everything I lost.
But, slowly, I became comfortable with it. Now it's doesn't hurt me as it did before.
There were many times when I think of Azriel, tears filled my eyes, but I never let them free. I sucked them in and did anything else that didn't made me cry, like taking baths, baking my favorite chocolate brownies, reading in front of the fire place while drinking hot coco or calling my friends to take me shopping.
And as time went. I started to heal. I started to feel good, happier with myself. And without even realizing it, I started to love myself.
-☆-
Azriel
It's been one month.
One month of regretting everything I did to my mate.
I've spent my whole month sulking in this room, crying and regretting everytime I chose Elain over my wife. I haven't slept at all since I came here, just enough to keep me functioning. My appetite is gone. I don't eat unless Rhys come and force feeds me like I'm some baby.
I told Rhysand and Cassian everything the first morning i stayed here. Which earned me a flick to head by Cassian and a very disappointed look from Rhys. Even though they didn't give me any scolding(which I very much deserved), the flick and expression said enough.
Rhys has refrained me of any work, handling it himself or having someone else do it. While I have been sitting around here and hating myself. It seems like even my mind has declared itself an enemy, showing me memories of everytime I dismissed Y/N and hurt her in any way at most random times, cutting a deeper cut in my heart everytime.
"Hey Az, I was thinking if we could go out for dinner tonight? There is this new amazing restaurant I saw while walking near Sidra. I really want to try it." She told me as I put on my coat, ready to go.
"I can't, I have a mission for today. Rhys told me it's important so I can't skip. We'll go some other time. Okay?"
"Ok."
I could hear the excitement in her voice when she asked me and the hurt when I rejected her and promised to go another time. The time never came. She never asked again. And I never noticed.
"Az, are you awake?" She whispers in the dead of night. Both of us sleeping on the bed. My back to her, hoping to fall asleep quickly because I have early training tomorrow.
Cassian is spending time with Nesta more, so Rhys has told me to go to an illyrian camp to check how things are going. I have to wake and go there early to catch them off guard to see what's truly going on.
I can't do that if Y/N doesn't let me sleep.
I didn't answer her that night, hoping if i dont respond, she'll think im asleep and doesnt call me again. She really didnt call me again. I prioritized my sleep over her. Her voice sounded so small. She needed me. And I didn't care.
"So, I saw a really cute baby in garden today and..." I drone out her babbling and try to quickly I can get out of here, I promised Elain to help in her garden today. She'll be disappointed if I show up late.
"Az? You're listening to me right?" She suddenly questions, I clear my throat and answer a small, of course, she nods and takes a deep breath, not saying anything anymore. I sign in relief of the silence.
I put my head in my hands and tug hard on my hair, wanting to feel hurt, hurt the kind that she clearly felt and I didn't care.
I hate myself more and more as memories flash through my mind. I can't even cry at this point. I wished she'd hit me when we fought. Slaped and paunched some sense into me. I don't blame her at all for not talking to me. Gods, I wouldn't even blame her if she left me. I deserve it.
How do I fix this?

Hello :) I've recently found your blog and read everything AT LEAST thrice. I adore your writing <3 May I request a one-short, Azriel and Reader being Wayyy too into PDA, like pausing training to cuddle standing up while everyone else is training in front of them, and Azriel is kissing up her neck n all.
Reader sitting in his lap during dinner with the inner circle while they feed each other, giggling, whispering sweet nothings, stealing kisses with each other in front of everyone and Azriel has a wing around her to keep her warm.
Like they just have to be touching each other all the time.
Also, Cass is fake-gagging at them while he is training others. And Rhys is traumatized cause they didn't put their mental shield up, and he can hear all the *dirty* thoughts they are having for each other. Those thoughts are loud as hell and he is basically like, "Really? In front of my dinner?" While side-eyeing them through dinner. That was a long one heh. Fingers crossed I sparked an idea for you and it wasn't just me rambling
Honeymoon phase.
Azriel x f!Reader.

Masterlist
Thank you so much! I hope this is what you had in mind! Please let me know if you want me to rewrite it.
“Lift your elbow” Azriel ordered and ducked when you threw a punch.
You were on the roof of the house of wind training with your mate while Cassian was training the Valkyries on the other side.
“That’s it! Very well” he praised you.
You smiled proudly and he engulfed you in his arms. You pressed your cheek on his chest and rubbed his back as he held you. Your mate sighed and leaned down and started kissing your neck making you leave a small moan.
“Oh come on we are training” Cassian exclaimed and made a gagging noise.
“Sorry Cassie” you shouted and pushed your mate away but quickly grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him for a last sloppy kiss.
You and Azriel met 70 years ago so the mating bond wasn’t new, but you never left the honeymoon phase. You couldn’t stay away from each other, if you could become one you probably would.
You finished training and left hand in hand making Cassian snort. After bathing together, you enjoyed your lunch and went to the river house, Azriel had to brief Rhysand on some mission, and you wanted to hang out with Feyre and Mor.
“Have fun” he told you and captured your lips with his own before climbing up the stairs that led to Rhysand’s office.
“I can’t get used to this side of him” Mor spoke from behind you.
“He is the sweetest” you smiled and took a seat on the big couch.
“He is desperately in love” Feyre said and giggled.
“Girl, trust me when I say that this man looked like he was going to murder everyone all the time. I don’t think that I ever saw him smile before he met y/n.” Mor exclaimed.
You tried to hide your grin but failed miserably making Feyre and Mor burst into laughter.
“And let’s not get started on the PDA” Mor shook her head.
“Enough! Let’s talk about something else.” You whined and the girls began teasing you even more.
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Feyre was talking about her new painting when a pair of hands covered your eyes, the spicy yet sweet scent of your mate clouded your senses and you shuddered.
“Hey love” you giggled, and he removed his hands.
“Hey” he grinned and leaned down to kiss you.
“Who are you and what did you do to Azriel?” Mor shouted and Azriel gave her a vulgar gesture.
“See? He wouldn’t even acknowledge me before” she threw her hands in the air.
You shook your head and got up. “See you at dinner”.
Your mate placed his hand on your waist and guided you outside.
You spent the rest of the day cuddling in bed enjoying each other’s company. Days like this were rare, most of the time Azriel was away because of his missions and you helped Madja at her infirmary, so when you had free time you made sure to spend every second together.
“We have to get ready for dinner” you whispered and tried to push him off you.
“We still have a few minutes” he mumbled and kissed your naked chest before going further down.
“We will be late” you hummed.
“Let me just have a taste” he whined.
“I will let you do anything you want when we come back” you cupped his jaw and pulled him up giving him a soft kiss.
“Anything?” he quirked a brow.
“Anything” you nodded, and he jumped out of bed.
“Let’s go” he said and opened the closet to find an outfit for dinner making you laugh and shake your head.
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
You walked in the dining room and Cassian’s eyes flashed with mischief.
“What?” you asked, and he sat on your usual seat next to Azriel’s ,leaving his own on the other side of the table free.
Azriel rolled his eyes and grabbed your hand, leading you to his seat and pulling you on his lap and draping a protective wing around you.
“Oh no” Cassian mumbled and got up. Azriel’s shadows grabbed the empty chair and removed it from the room.
“I guess you have to sit next to us” your mate smiled at the warlord who paled.
Everyone looked at Cassian and burst into laughter knowing that soon enough you two would start touching each other and he would have to eat with the scent of your arousal.
Azriel was lost deep in his conversation with Rhys and you feared that his food would get cold so you grabbed his fork and stabbed a piece of steak.
“Here baby” you said and brought it to his lips.
“Thank you” he smiled and gave you a quick kiss before eating.
You watched his full lips and the way his jaw flexed as he chewed and almost moaned. Azriel noticed and smirked before moving his hand to rest it on your thigh and rub small circles. You kept feeding him and kissing him between bites. Every time you stared at his face while he ate his hand moved higher making you squirm on his lap and ground on his bulge. He quickly covered the moan that escaped with a cough and Cassian almost spat his wine.
Your arousal was evident and as both of you stripped each other with your eyes Rhysand gagged.
“Are you serious? Here?” he groaned and grabbed his head.
You stared at him wide-eyed and Azriel chuckled.
“I’m so happy for your creative sex life but please stop thinking about it on my dinner table” he whined, and Feyre caressed his arm.
You stopped grinding your hips and focused on your food before Azriel leaned forward and whispered in your ear.
“So anything huh?”
Rhysand’s eyes snapped to you and Cassian tensed.
“Yes my love” you whispered back and kissed his neck making Rhys scoff.
Azriel kissed your shoulder and pushed you off him before getting up too.
“Well next time don’t get offended if we don’t join you for dinner.” He said and slapped your ass as you hurried to your room.
“If you don’t want to hear them having sex I think we should move to the river house” Cassian mumbled and everyone jumped on their feet.

Our girl – Part 6
Azriel x Cassian x fem reader angst
Word count: 5k
Warnings: Violence, character death
<<< Part 5
“Y/N, we are ready for you,” Thesan said with a soft smile.
You swallowed as you entered the decadent marble room, the binder under your arm almost bursting with hundreds of papers of research you collated.
Several powerful sets of eyes fell on you, and you forced your own forward, fighting the instinct to cast them low in respect. You were doing this for Prythian, for all fae – they should feel honoured for the opportunity, not you.
With smiles from Tarquin and Tamlin, you took the seat Thesan withdrew for you – the tall, regal shape foreign as it pressed to your back.
Rhysand and Feyre sat opposite, their eyes warm beneath their gaze. But you were too preoccupied to meet it.
“And since when are we in the business of inviting commoners to these meetings? I won't share my table with court-crossing whores.”
You let out a tired breath, your patience for the male ego completely diminished over the past years.
“I suppose you’ve excused that every time one of your sons has sat for these meetings, Beron?”
The words had left your mouth before you could stop them.
Beron’s eyes widened, his face flushing red, and a few snorts and stifled laughs could be heard across the table.
Fuck – you could kiss Autumn’s allegiance goodbye. You would have to be a lot less impulsive if you were to make it out of this meeting alive.
"I will not–" Beron began, his hands curling into fists.
“Oh calm yourself Beron, you had no right to insult her in the first place.” Tarquin was grinning at you – ever the loyal friend. You gave him a tight smile to say thanks.
“And if you’re wondering who invited her here, you can steer your anger towards me,” Tamlin spoke smoothly, intertwining his fingers as he placed his solid arms on the table, meeting Beron’s glare with confidence.
“I for one, would like to hear what Y/N has to say,” Feyre added, with a confident nod to you.
It seemed you had an alliance at play all along.
With clear of your throat, you opened your binder, rolling out a detailed map of Prythian and with it months of research on each of the courts. You took a breath, and began the proposal you and your team had spent weeks perfecting.
“You may have heard of aid work spreading across Spring in light of the aftermath of the war. My team and I have worked tirelessly to support vulnerable communities across the court, providing food, medicine and shelter for those devastated by Hybern.”
“Spring Court only suffered devastation because of its alliance with Hybern in the first place,” Kallias interrupted, followed by a murmur of agreements.
Tamlin straightened. “I acknowledge my court was left at Hybern's mercy due to my decisions. But Y/N has worked despite of that – and it’s what makes her work so important.”
“In what way?” Thesan asked.
“A courtless ambition,” you affirmed. “A team of volunteers – made from all courts, for all courts. Resources provided from across Prythian, shared equally to help those in need despite what throne they serve.”
There was a moment of silence, before Beron sounded a loud snort.
“Don't trust her for one second,” he scoffed, pointing a finger at you. “She’s been hauled up in Spring Court for over a year now. No doubt this is a ruse to have us open our borders. She’ll be free to rob our people and lands, all the while fucking her handsome High Lord.”
“Watch how you speak of her,” Rhysand growled, night crawling across the table, the purple in his eyes all but gone.
You had to interject before this meeting finished as quickly as it started. “I assure you, this mission has no binding to Spring Court. It is to exist without borders so we may help anyone in need, and travel with ease to provide urgent care.”
Beron ignored Rhysand and instead cold eyes to you, his lips curling with distaste. “And you believe we need your help?” he spat. “The fae of Spring are weak. My subjects are well cared for, and my court is thriving.”
Gods, you could see where Eris got it from.
“According to my research, inflation in your court is a second close to Spring, and displacement is rising with little access to healers after you centralised them during the war.”
Beron’s face flushed an even deeper red than before, his eyes turning to a murderous cold and your stomach twisted with both fear and delight.
“There is not one court here that is in a position to refuse this kind of offer,” Tarquin said with sweeping calm, silencing Beron before he could bubble over. “We would do well to not let our pride stop an ambition of this size.”
“Y/N,” he added, turning to you. “I admire the work you have done in Spring, Tamlin has testified and frankly sung much high praise. If you might show me your plans of what role Summer Court could play in your mission, I would be happy to come to an agreement to provide volunteers and resources.”
You swallowed, your heart swelling. You had no doubt Tarquin would offer his allegiance, but it was a milestone all the same. “Thank you, Tarquin.”
“My mate and I would like to offer the allegiance of the Night Court. We would be honoured for your help,” Feyre’s face strong and stern, but you knew them well enough to feel the waves of pride from both her and Rhys.
“Consider Day Court an ally too,” Hellion beamed, trusting of Feyre’s alliance to now make his own. “We have some of the oldest practicing healers – if you can help spread their knowledge across our lands, it will help us to grow stronger as a continent, and perhaps more resistant should we face another invasion in future.”
“Thank you,” you said, bowing your head gratefully to the High Lords and Lady around you.
“You’re all fools,” Beron spat, pushing up from his chair. “And I won't stand to watch you place the fate of our lands in the hands of a traitor, let alone a woman.”
A series of snarls sounded as claws of all kinds shot out. Tamlin’s hands shook as he gripped the tables edge, Tarquin’s scraped at his chair, and Rhys’s tapped with threatening impatience.
“Your mind betrays you, Beron,” Feyre spoke coldly, a cruel smile at play on her lips. “Because despite countless centuries in this world, you and your seven sons couldn't hope to accomplish as much as this female has in just a few years. You’re embarrassed. You feel she emasculates you.”
You didn't have a moment to gawk before Beron launched at you, his fist in your hair as he ripped you backwards in your chair. Droplets of his disgusting spit landing their mark as he snarled down at you. “You mark my words you sly bitch. You may have everyone wrapped around you finger, but step one foot in my court and I’ll–”
Guards had pulled Beron from you before he could finish his sentence. They hardly had to escort him as he shook their grip, storming from the room and slamming the doors behind him.
With red cheeks and a slight shake of your hands, you took Tarquins offer to help you stand.
“Are you alright?” he asked quietly.
You offered a single nod, too stunned to know truly. Was this how the High Lords settled business?
You straightened your skirts and took your seat once again.
“I do hate it when he gets like that,” Tarquin said more loudly, feigning a bored sigh and hiding a comforting hand on your thigh beneath the table.
“For your knowledge Y/N, there are rules that we must not to lay hands on another High Lord or Lady, not without consequence. I suppose that’s why he launched at you,” Thesan explained, willing a glass of water in front of you and giving you a sorry smile.
You took a shaky sip, barely having a moment to register the silent exchange between Tamlin, Feyre and Rhys. Whatever their stern expressions meant, you knew Beron was in deep, deep shit.
The rest of the meeting went smoothly – you convinced Thesan and Kallias to consider your proposal, and agreed to meet with them in future after they took some time to study your plans in more detail. In total you had four courts agree, two remained uncertain, and one definite no. It was overwhelming result, and you were riddled with both excitement and anxiousness at the thought of expanding your mission to not just one, but three new courts.
As the meeting adjourned, you found yourself thinking of Eris, and couldn't help but feel empathetic. You may have an unwelcome bond binding you to the two males who broke your heart, but at least your future wasn't dictated by someone as hideous as Beron. Eris would never be that free.
You spent your evening writing to the other volunteers and your uncle, and preparing plans and strategies to begin work in Summer. It would be beneficial to start there, to have more experienced healers on board.
There was a soft rap at your door, and Feyre’s blossom-like scent floated through the gaps.
Quill now mid-air, your heart fastened with momentary worry. But you took a breath - it was just a conversation, you could grant her that. After all, there were many more meetings with her and Rhys to come if you hoped to expand to the Nigh Court successfully. You'd also likely need to return to the Night Court yourself…
Stopping your spiral of thoughts, you cleared your throat. “Come in,” you called, placing your quill down and turning in your seat.
“I hope I’m not interrupting.”
“No no. Please, come in,” you gestured.
She strode with confidence, dark drapes of her dress flowing behind as they sparkled like the Velarian sky you hadn't realised you longed for. “I won't stay long, I just wanted to tell you that you were incredible today.” Those grey eyes pinned you with sincerity, before fluttering with a sideways glance.  “And perhaps I’m also here to see how you’re fairing after the meeting. I’m sorry, I didn't think Beron…"
You huffed humorously, your head cocking down as you let out sound of exasperation. “Gods, he truly is as awful as they say.”
“Yes,” Feyre said with a stifled grin, her head shaking. “He really is.”
“Thank you, for defending me. Your response to him… it was–"
“Too much, probably.”
“Insidiously epic.” You were grinning.
Feyre laughed now, swinging one leg over the other before fingering a nearby trinket. “You know I can't resist the opportunity to toy with a male like that.”
You matched her smile, warmed by the mischievous look. The exchange was genuine and comfortable, fun even – exactly how your friendship had been for so many years.
“Thank you for coming to see me, Feyre.”
Feyre’s eyes softened, a small but sad smile finding her lips. “Of course.”
You looked at your hands then, fidgeting with them in your lap. You had to ask, you just had to.
“How are they?”
Feyre didn't falter. “Well enough. Cassian has been training a new generation of Illyrians to regrow our army, and Azriel has been busy with his work in Hybern.”
Your eyes were distant as you thought about them, separated by work. Azriel was still undertaking missions in Hybern? Was there truly more secrets to unravel there? Gods, the thought alone made you wince in pain, that whole damned continent a waking reminder of Meryl and everything you had lost. You knew Azriel would be tortured by the same cycle of thoughts on those lands.
“They work hard,” you offered with pulled brows, not really knowing what else to say.
“Just like someone else I know.” Feyre’s pained smile soft yet full of suggestion. She might as well have said it – they’re not the only ones burying their pain in work. You supposed she was right, you had set a stellar example at that.
“But they’re doing better, really,” she added, resuming natural movement and surrendering you from her gaze. “They’re healthier, and they look after one another.”
Your lips pulled into a small smile. “I’m glad.” And you meant it.
Feyre had matured over the past year – you could see it in her poise, hear it in her voice. It was a nice thing to see, to watch a fellow immortal grow in such ways.
“I will leave you to your planning.” She stood then, her incredible dress sweeping the floor once more.
Pausing by the doorway, Feyre turned to you. “Rhys and I are so honoured to have your work come to our court, even with the challenges to be faced with the Council. You should be proud, Y/N. We certainly are.”
You nodded, your lips pulling in a smile that twitched, and you swallowed the lump in your throat. “Thank you. I’ll send a letter to meet soon, and we can discuss plans then.”
“We look forward to it.” Feyre’s smile was warm and true.
“As do I.” And so was your own.
————
“Are you sure you wouldn't like to wait a few more days? We could journey back together.”
You rolled your eyes, securing your bag to Podie as Tamlin fussed behind you, tightening the knots.
“I must get back and help the team start the expansion. I don't have a few days to spare.”
“I know, I just… worry for you.”
You snorted then, hauling yourself to your horse. “I journeyed here myself, you know.”
Tamlin sighed, reaching to stroke Podie’s mane. “I know. I just, I’m not sure, I have a feeling–“
“You’re fussing.”
“No, I have a feeling.”
“A feeling of fussing?”
Tamlin pinched his nose then. “I don't know why I try,” he muttered.
You grinned. “I’ll see you in two weeks time, Tam.” With a gentle nudge to Podie’s sides, you started the long journey home.
Never mind that Tamlin had found you shortly after Feyre left your room last night. Never mind that he searched you over for any signs of injury that Beron might have left, or that he distracted you jokes and conversation and stiff drink on your balcony that lead to welcomed sleep. You would certainly not think about the way his deep hushed voice soothed you until your eyes closed, or that he knew exactly how to stroke your hair as he comforted you after the things Beron had said, long after you had stopped responding.
When you had woken he was gone, so this time apart would serve you well to clear your head and re-establish those murky lines of love and friendship, desire and lust.
“Take safe routes,” he called out, waving you off as the castle of Dawn Court disappeared behind the trees.
You forced yourself not to look back.
————
The journey from Dawn to Spring would take six days of travel. With no ability to winnow or fly, it was a pace you were not accustomed to.
But you would bare it with higher spirits than ever, because you got what you came for, what you’d wanted your entire life. You were making the world a better place, and only just getting started.
Forgoing the coastal scenery you had indulged in on your journey up, you chose a route close to the inner border with Autumn, avoiding the congestion of the capital and heading through the most direct route. By your third morning you had already reached Summer, forgoing rest and carving your journey time to start your eager plans once home.
As the sun began to set that evening, Podie began fussing with fatigue.
“I know boy, I know,” you soothed, patting at his neck. “We’re almost there.”
And sure enough, the bustle of the town you had marked on your map sounded in the distance, smoke trails rising above the tree tops as signs of life revealed themselves. You had marked this town for its inn, where both you and Podie could rest properly for the night.
But rest would have to wait, as your ears pricked at a young voice. Turning, you saw wild auburn hair on a thin and ashy body, large eyes pleading to whoever walked past.
“Please, ma’am, sir, someone help!”
But the other fae continued to look past her, offering mumbled apologies and averting their gaze. Disheartened, you tutted under your breath. The child was from Autumn, that much was clear, and you knew the other fae ignored her for it. This was exactly the kind of mentality you were trying to amend.
Having just secured Podie’s reigns at the stables next to the inn, you wiped your hands on your pants, approaching the girl. “What’s wrong youngling?”
The little girl all but crumpled. “Please, my mother, she-she can’t, I don’t-"
Crouching down, you soothed the young girl with a hand on each of her shoulders. “Is she unwell?”
Dirty hands rubbed the tears spilling from her eyes, and a nod was all she could offer.
Your eyes flicked to your satchel still strung on Podie. There were vessels of Geranium in there, samples you had shown to the High Lords.
“Can she walk?”
The little girl trembled, locks bouncing as she shook her head. Gods, those locks, so similar to Meryl's…
A fresh batch of tears poured from her eyes then, as she pointed behind her. “There are no healers in our town. I didn't know where to go!”
“It’ll be alright, I have some medicine in my bag. Can you take me to her?”
She girl’s lip quivered. “But it’s over the border,” she whispered.
You gave her a sorry smile. “I thought as much. Never mind, let me grab my bag, and you lead the way.”
Fuck Beron – fuck his senseless borders and militant court. Someone was in need of healing, so you would help them, plain and simple.
The girl was still thanking you by the time you returned with your satchel. You hoped you had enough Geranium to heal her mother to to a capacity until a trained healer could see to her.
The young thing all but sprinted, and you maintained a steady jog to the Autumn border. Green blended with red here, the breeze already cooler as dried leaves danced with live ones.
“My town is down this trail,” she pointed to a winding path. “It’s not far.”
You nodded, taking your first step in Autumn without a second thought. And when you reached the winding path, where the trees now hid the backs of Summer Court and the life that called there, the girl stopped in her path, turning with an eery slowness.
You jumped back at the white film that now filled her eyes, her mouth downturned and sad. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, her head lolling sideways.
You hadn’t a moment to process the horror of it before hands pinned your arms and smothered your mouth.
Fumes swarmed your senses, burning your nose and throat before you were overcome with poisonous haze, your cry swallowed in cloth as the world turned black.
————
Rhysand handed the last of his bags to the door man, giving his guest room at Dawn one final sweep.
Feyre had left a few days earlier to be with Nyx, but many of the High Lords had stayed to use the mutual meeting grounds and have much needed discussions after the war. But his business was done and he would finally return home, his heart aching for Velaris.
Even his brothers would be there this time, having returned from their own missions. He was eager to unwind and be surrounded by the laughter and company of his family together again. Well, almost all of them.
Tamlin’s scent pricked his nose, and Rhys resisted the urge to roll his eyes. With the complicated and bloody history they shared, forcing himself to be civil with Tamlin would always draining, and right now he just wanted to get home.
Night magic flung the doors open, revealing the distraught High Lord, one hand raised to knock, the other clutching a letter.
“Whatever can I do you for, Tamlin?” Rhys mused, before finally turning to face him. With one look at his expression, he flicked his eyes to the letter in Tamlin's hand, his stomach sinking immediately.
“What’s happened?” Rhys asked quickly.
“Y/N – she was due back in Spring three days ago. Her uncle has written to say she hasn't come home.”
Rhys could feel the violet draining from his eyes. “Perhaps she took a few more days to herself?”
“She wouldn't do that.” Tamlin said firmly.
Rhys nodded, his lips pressing into a tight line as worry brewed even further. He was right.
“There’s more.”
Rhys quirked his brow.
“Podie was found stranded at an inn in Summer, east of the capital.”
“Podie? Who-"
“Her horse Rhysand! They found her damned horse, left there for days!”
Rhys swallowed, his mind narrowing to a steely focus – the way it did before battle.
“You said east?”
Tamlin swallowed thickly, a knowing worry pulling at his features as he nodded. “Just shy of the border.”
Black flooded the little violet left in Rhys’s eyes. “Fuck.”
Tamlin stalked towards Rhys, forcing the letter into his hand. “Call for her mates, immediately.”
But Rhys already was, his mind screaming out to his brothers, to Feyre, to anyone who could find her first.
“Is it done?” Tamlin asked, green eyes desperately scanning the lucid male in front of him.
Rhys was quiet for a moment, before sucking in a sharp sudden breath. He faltered then, grasping the bed post with a wince as his magic recoiled within.
Because somewhere in Velaris, across the mountains and seas and stretch of land the separated y/n from her mates, a panic so deep and rage so violent consumed any magic in reach, even the most powerful High Lords.
Rhys wasn't there to witness Cassian and Azriel’s siphons shattering, to see the way red and blue power - now freed from their bounds - instead consumed them, filling their veins and pulsing against muscle.
Rhys nodded once at Tamlin, confirming what they both knew.
There would be a war to retrieve Y/N alive. And Beron was as good as dead.
————
Beron took a leather parcel from the last of his guards, before ushering him from your cell.
You had been here for days – or so you thought. Time was a difficult thing to grasp in your haze, and there was no light here. It was quite too, the only sound of dripping dampness, and the occasional screams and pleas from a women. That voice was so far away, you weren’t certain it was real, or that it wasn't your own.
Beron had visited you the day you were taken, his dark eyes glowing with hideous intent at the sight of you bound in his dungeon. He hadn’t said much, only promising with sickening glee that he’d be back soon.
You half expected him to beat you, to hurt and punish you for humiliating him at the High lords meeting. Gods, you even anticipated death. But the High Lord kept you hydrated and healthy enough, all be it drugged and weak. Which meant a different fate awaited you, perhaps one worse than you could imagine.
You cursed at the sight of the weapon he unfurled from the leather pouch. It was a rapier of kinds – too large to be a knife, too small to be an ordinary sword. But it was the ungodly glow of the thing - the churning ribbons of deadly silver turning in on itself - that terrified you most.
“What is that?” you panted, your eyes wide as Beron’s grin grew.
“You have no idea the lengths I’ve gone to find such a tool, Y/N.” He angled it this way and that, eyes glowing with admiration as silver danced in them. “The terrible things I had to do to have this made, to even hold it in my bare hands.”
It was pointless to press further into the metal slab you were bound to, cuffs digging at your ankles and wrists as you reopened the same wounds you had fought against for days.
Beron was drawing closer, the rest of the room darkening as the rapier glowed so bright, commanding your attention. The air grew colder, as if those lethal ribbons were consuming the warmth for itself.
“I think we’re alike, you and I.” Beron eyed you with a sickly smile before he began to pace, moving his sword with him.
Your chest heaved with panic, your eyes trailing him as you begged for anyone to find you. Your mates, that tether, perhaps they would hear you? But the bond had weakened since left unacknowledged, and as you fished for it within you could feel how it had thinned.
“I don't like having my things taken from me, Y/N. And I’m certain you don't either. That’s why you were alone, wasn’t it? Without your mates, hm? They took something of yours, and you didn't like it one bit.”
Your eyes snapped to Beron the moment he mentioned them. Fuck. Fuck. Eris, that kniving worm, had told him exactly what he needed to know.
“I’ve had something of mine taken from me over and over again for almost a century. The one thing that was promised to me – sworn to me by oath, bound to me by a ring.”
What nonsense was he spitting? Unless… oh gods.
“You see there’s a particular High Lord who seems to think he can help himself to what is mine. And apparently, my whore of a wife agrees.”
The Lady of Autumn. What Feyre had shared with you about Lucien, about his mother and Helion – it was all true. And Beron knew.
You gulped, your stomach churning as you forced your voice past the strain in your throat. “What in gods name does that have to do with me, you twisted senseless fuck.”
Fear seeped from you, and you knew he could scent it.
Beron chuckled, shaking his head before crazed eyes found yours. “Do you know what my wife said to me when I confronted her, Y/N? Do you know what she claimed, what she threw in my face, after centuries of marriage, of sharing my home and my court and six fucking sons?”
You were wise enough not to answer.
Beron shifted, easing back into lethal calm. “She tells me of a bond. Bound by the cauldron, she claims. She says that she’s sorry, to please not hurt her, to please not hurt him. And then she begs me to let her go.”
Bile rose to your throat. “What have you done to her?” you gritted, fighting against your cuffs once more. “Have you- did you-”
“Kill her?” Beron finished, a smirk pulling at his lips. “Of course not. I am no monster.” He paused then, halting his pace. “I love her.”
It was almost convincing.
“But so began my journey, sweet Y/N, to help my dear wife from her delusions. I keep her here, a few cells over. She’s very eager to receive her treatment and rejoin the throne again as my loyal wife.”
You had to blink through your nausea. The begging, those screams – they were real. It was her.
“By no means was it an easy task to find a tool like this – something so magnificent, crafted straight from death itself. But I do it for her.”
Your stomach dropped. He had harnessed death itself? This was beyond insidious - Beron had been driven insane by his jealousy.
Beron’s eyes flicked from the weapon to you, noting the way you stiffened.
“Ah yes, death. Not an easy thing to befriend, certainly not an easy thing to yield. It took a life to harness it’s power, life from my very own family.”
Beron’s words were becoming harder to hear as your heart pounded in your ears. And then it clicked, and you could have sworn that time stood still as his words played in your head. He had mentioned six sons, not seven.
You had not known a fear like the one you felt now, a sickening tremble overtaking as you knew what he would say next.
“Please,” you begged, twisting in your restraints. “Please! Don't say it!”
“Although I suppose Lucien wasn't truly my family, not really.”
A scream ripped from you, your eyes clenched shut as your mind reeled at the horror. Lucien – Tamlin’s friend, Feyre’s friend, your friend too. Killed as a sacrifice for this insidious narcissist he had thought was his father.
“Oh none of that, Y/N. You act as if I enjoyed it. Lucien was my son in many ways. But a power this great,” he said, casting the sword before his eyes. “Well, it demands an equally great sacrifice.”
Anguished sobs escaped you, tear tracks gleaming from the glow of death before you.
“How could you?” you screamed, writhing against your chains. “He trusted you!”
Beron’s eyes darkened. “It’s as I said,” he growled. “I will not have my things taken from me. For decades I was humiliated and lied to while she slinked from MY COURT to have an affair with another High Lord. Years spent playing me a fool, lying to my face and CLAIMING a SON as my OWN!”
You trembled at the hate in Beron’s voice, walls rumbling as he beheld other-worldly power from the weapon in his hand. You knew his words had hit their mark, and faint wails could be heard outside your cell. The Lady of Autumn could hear it all – Beron was punishing her, forcing her to listen.
He was quiet then, watching you fail to stifle your own sobs.
He moved closer, raising a hand to stroke at your hair. “Shh, shh. Now now, dear Y/N. I may hate you, but I’m a man of reason. I don't believe in spilt blood.”
You jerked under his touch, squeezing your eyes shut and begging to the Mother to not let you die at the hands of this deranged murderer.
“I haven't bought you here to kill you. You’re valuable to me, you see.”
You forced your eyes open.
“I merely want to break your bond.”
There was a ringing in your ears as a panic burst through your veins so quickly you felt you would simply combust.
“And I suppose I don't care should you survive this or not.” Beron said with a shrug, before pointing that ungodly sword at your heart, and a bloodcurdling scream ripped from your chest.

Warnings:
aftermath of SA - i can't really tell if it's graphic which tells me it is, loose description of a panic attack, PTSD, please let me know if I missed anything. guys, please, if these topics are triggering for you, don't read this fic. i am not responsible for your media consumption, but i also don't want to throw you headfirst into your trauma.

A/N:
literally broke my own damn heart with this one. rhys' trauma is so ignored and that needed to be rectified. rhys might be my second favorite bat boy, but he's still a lil baby who needs to be protected
Tumblr media
The human girl had beaten her - the woman of his nightmares - once and for all. At the first moment he could, Rhysand winnowed. After fifty years, he knew there was only one place he could go. After all, it was the last Sunday of the month, and that Sunday was the day he and his mate reserved just for themselves. The High Lord and Lady would not conduct any business on that day.
You'd spend most of your day on the balcony. You'd serenade him with the piano. You'd fly around Velaris - creating patterns in the air. You'd cradle each other in your arms. He'd sketch out a new drawing - trying and failing, in his opinion, to encapsulate your true beauty.
One day, he broke that promise, that vow you had made, and went to what he thought was a simple trade meeting. That morning was the last day he saw you, and he still couldn't live with himself.
Those memories alone kept him breathing at times. When Amarantha stole his bed, his body, his hope.
Then the human girl showed up, and he tried to help her. Wanted to give her what she needed to beat the beast he didn't think he'd ever escape. But he had lost the will to pray for it. To the cauldron, to the Mother Above. Despite his pessimism, she persevered. The girl had won. And then he was free.
He was on the balcony before he could even think about it. After a quick glance around, he realized it was empty. At first, he felt a pulse of disappointment, but with the realization of how long it'd been, he breathed deeply. How could he expect you to keep up the tradition? Fifty years of solitude on those Sundays would have made him mad if your roles were reversed.
At the thought, he allowed himself to feel the mating bond. It had gone cold the moment he winnowed away all those years ago, but now it was as beautiful as he remembered. The pull of another person at the end of a tether, forever binding them in the purest forms of fate.
But he heard your thoughts, and he almost broke down in sobs at the sound of your voice in his head. Please come home, my love. I don't know how to do this anymore. Please. The last word, you were begging. Your inner voice, the one he had to get used to living without, was broken. Pleading for him to return - despite everything you'd probably heard.
And with that, he took action, winnowing to every room in the house so he would find you as soon as possible. He knew you were close; your scent wasn't stale. It was fresh, clinging to every piece of furniture you owned together.
It was the last room he checked, his office, where he found you. You sat in his desk chair; the leather more worn than he remembered. But the sight of you stopped him from rushing to you. Nursing a bottle of wine, you slouched on your elbows, hands in your hair, as more thoughts streamed through the bond.
I'm losing myself, Rhys. I don't know how much more of this I can take. I can't let myself believe you won't come back because that- that will ruin me. What she's doing to you, what she's making you do. I don't even know a fraction of it, but I can't stop it. I- I can't protect you. And I hate myself for it.
He was watching you as you sent the words down the bond, the bond that had been desolate for half a century. You run your hands down your face, not looking up from your wine, the third of many you planned to drown in.
Just get through it. Please just- just survive. Do what you have to do to come home. I'll be here. I love you. My mate.
You'd only allowed yourself to talk to him once a month. Initially, you would try to send him something every day. Thoughts, images, songs you'd learned, prayers for him. You never heard anything back, and it slowly started eating away at you. It shattered your hope every time you didn't get a response.
You'd heard the rumors, Amarantha's whore, he'd been called. Every time you heard it, it ate away at you more and more. As if he would choose that - choose to warm the bed of another when you were waiting for him at home. You knew him better than that, and you winced at the thought. He wouldn't choose it, but would she force him? Was she that much of a monster?
You had to shake that thought away for the thousandth time that night, downing the rest of the glass. As you reach for the bottle, nearly empty at that point, a hand wraps around your wrist. The touch is gentle but firm - stopping you from drinking more, but not rough enough to hurt. Instead of startling at it, the wine slows your instincts. You can only stare. The tattoos on the dorsal side interweave into vines under the sleeve. Vines you know, vines that you've held, vines that have and will continue to have free rein of your body.
Faster than you thought you were capable of, your eyes flew to its owner's eyes. Violet. The most ravishing violet. Violet you'd feared you were forgetting.
With a new urgency, you pulled yourself to your feet, your hands flying up to his face without thinking. One on his cheek, the other on his neck, pushing, pulling, grabbing, unsure if it was your mind playing tricks on you.
In your desperate touch, you missed the way he flinched.
His hands. Mother Above, his beautiful hands were on your neck too, placed at the sides. When your mind would play you for a fool, it would never let you touch him, let alone allow him to reach you. But there he was, and you could feel him. You tugged at the bond, finally noticing it was warm and delicate and sweet and serene and everything you wished you knew how to describe.
He breathed your name, barely a whisper. "I'm home, my darling. I'm home."
"You're here." The words barely escaped you, and you couldn't stop the tears. He didn't hesitate a moment, pulling you in for a frustratingly rare and fierce embrace. You clung to each other for dear life, tighter and tighter and tighter, like he'd disappear if you let him go. Frankly, you weren't convinced he wouldn't. "You're really here."
You stood like that for a while, holding each other, when he ultimately pulled away first. "Rh-Rhys, don't go-"
"I'm not," he promised, his voice raw, kissing your forehead. He took in every inch of your face. "I just wanted to look at you. My mate."
Tumblr media
Since Rhys had been freed by the human girl, nothing had been normal. Not that you expected it to be, but you didn't anticipate just how awful a recovery for him would be. He couldn't share your bed, and you didn't mean that in a sexual manner. He couldn't sleep with anyone else in his room - if he had even been sleeping at all. He could barely stand to be touched. You knew he wanted to be able to let you, but every time you seemed to blink, he would flinch.
You had suspicions about what went on under the mountain, but you had no idea it would be so evil.
He stood before a cabinet, staring blankly into it, lost in a memory - a memory he'd been refusing to share. You understood why, but something in you told you that you needed to see. Not just for curiosity's sake but to know how to help him. Even if it was past your pay grade.
"Rhys," You called quietly for the second time. You didn't want to touch him, shock him back to reality. The fear of that setting him off more held you back. With a harsh and sudden breath, he fearfully glanced at you and around the room, forgetting where he was for a moment. "You're at home, Rhys. You came home."
"I'm sorry," He rasped, ignoring your words. His hands pulled at his hair, and you were nervous he'd start ripping it out. He backed away from you, so far away he was caught by the wall. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
Your own formed at the sight of his tears, but you couldn't conjure up what he'd have to apologize for. "It's okay, honey, you're safe. It's okay."
"I didn't- I didn't want it. I swear on my life, I didn't want to."
You shook your head, not understanding. But you knew asking what he was apologizing for was the wrong thing to do. You could see it, the shame, the regret, the blame. "I know you didn't."
He squeezed his eyes shut, buried his face in his hands, and sank to the floor. He kept murmuring apologies, pleading for your forgiveness. "I betrayed you, you have to- you have to leave me."
His words shocked you, and now you were the one that flinched. "Rhysand, look at me." He visibly shrunk at the command, pulling his hands away from his face. "As far as I'm concerned, anything that happened...there...is the furthest thing from your fault. I know there are things you can't tell me, and that's okay. I'll be here when you're ready-"
"I can't!" He bellowed. "You'll never forgive-"
"Show me the memory." You demanded, your voice quiet but assertive. But you wouldn't push too hard if he was adamant about keeping you out. You knew. You knew. Based on the way he had been acting, what had happened. But you also knew he needed to show you. So someone, fucking someone, would tell him it was out of his control. He couldn't govern everything, even if he was the High Lord of the Night Court. The words hurt as they left your lips. "Because I can promise you that I will."
You weren't a daemati, but you could see him battling with himself. Debating, if showing you what really happened, would bury him deeper under the surface or pull him back up for air.
Eventually, he released a rare sob and a barely audible "Okay."
He showed you the first time, how he just laid there like a statue as her hands took everything for herself. Then, the fifth time, when she started demanding he respond, pretend he wanted it. Then, the eleventh time, when his body started reacting. Then, by the next time, he had stopped keeping count.
He showed you, whether he meant to or not, how he prayed for it to end, prayed for someone to rescue him.
How he had been praying for you.
With the confirmation of your theory, you squeezed your eyes shut, trying and failing to hold back the tears. The angry tears, wishing you could've been the one to rip her throat out. Tears that enraged you because that was not Tamlin's kill. Furious tears because that wasn't even your kill. Devastating tears because your mate not only had to play a character for so long, but he had to endure being called her whore. Like he had any fucking say.
Overwhelming tears because your mate was in pain and there was shit all you could do about it.
"Can I touch you?" The question shocks him, but he nods without thinking, confused at the request. You slowly lift your hands to his cheeks, brushing away his tears with your thumbs. "There is nothing for me to forgive you for. I know you didn't want to do any of it."
"But I-"
"Bodies respond to stimulation whether it's wanted or not. It's how we work." You explained slowly and carefully, keeping direct eye contact. "You forget, sweetheart. I can hear your thoughts when you show me a memory."
"I've-" His voice caught, putting his hands on your wrists, rubbing them up and down your arms until they got hot. "I've been so scared. That it's still happening. That all of this is going to go away, that she's not really gone, that I'm not really here, and this is just another tactic-"
You shake your head, finally pulling yourself together to say what you've wanted to say for weeks. "I swear on my life that I will never let anyone hurt you like that again. I will spend eternity protecting you from her and anyone like her. And if you forget that this is real, just ask me. I'll tell you."
His eyes darted between yours, furiously blinking. Violet eyes, red. Pleading craving begging praying.
"Is it?"

“Elriel is too predictable! It’s boring & lazy writing!”
… 🧍‍♂️
My brother in Christ. You call SJM the fated mates author. Through 15+ books and 3 series she hasn’t diverged from that trope. Elain has a “mate”.
If an Elriel outcome is predictable, it’s because the author willed it so and therefore ✨wrote scenes✨ to ✨develop their relationship✨.
and by that i mean…
(long post ahead…. bear with me)
SJM wrote Mr. “I don’t need to resort to poetry” going all Azriel Allan Poe, flustered as he tells Elain “we are born hearing the song of the wind”. She wrote him uncharacteristically open & talkative, while when he 1st met Feyre he deferred all her questions to others.
SJM wrote that despite how different they may look, Elain does not balk from Az. She never has: from their 1st meeting she finds comfort in him, and he in turn notices her—she’s never been afraid of him, he has always seen her.
SJM wrote the 1st coherent thing to come out of Elain’s mouth in WaR to be “beautiful” as she beholds Azriel’s scarred hands. In turn, she wrote our gardener not minding imperfections on hers, for despite her lady-like conditioning, she prefers to get her hands dirty.
SJM wrote Az spending time with her in the sunshine: no forced conversation, no one hEaLinG anyone, just them both doing their own thing as a relaxed Az suns his wings. Just two pals comfortable with one another… which SJM foreshadowed in MaF through Feyre’s “Elain would likely cling to Az for some peace and quiet”.
SJM wrote Az and Cass both stilling at the sight of El & Nes, she wrote Az cutting in to set Elain up in her garden even as Feyre was about to do it, she wrote the mention that Elain was safe after the twin raven’s attack bc Az had stayed with her at the townhouse.
SJM wrote Azriel’s eyes churning as he looks at Elain and her too-thin body, before abruptly winnowing away, and we’re left with Mor looking at the spot where he left. Wonder what that was about (it certainly did not remind me of Rhys in TaR).
You know, Elriels are not just making stuff up and theorizing about the E/ucien bond cause we’re desperately pulling at straws…
SJM had Madja say “a mate would know if something is amiss”, then wrote a scene juxtaposing both Lucien’s and Azriel’s reactions/assessments of what was going on with Elain… and she had Azriel be the one to know nothing was “wrong” with her—no, she just had rare powers and needed to be heard, to be taken seriously. He didn't let her be misunderstood, for he was the ONLY one that listened to her, that took her visions/ramblings seriously right from the get go. And so he gave Elain the understanding she needed to free herself from the dream-like murky realm she was trapped in. Through it all, SJM emphasizes that Azriel also understands what it is like to struggle with rare, strange, prized powers in silence; what it’s like to be othered by them. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: she sees everything and he hears everything.
SJM wrote that “Elain had hoped that love would trump even a mating bond” and had her characters question the Cauldron in relation to Elucien *twice* (years apart!).
SJM wrote Az being the only one—in a room full of Made beings speaking of being Made—to notice that Elain was missing. A reassuring but empty statement by Cass that they’d get her back….but then it was Azriel that stated, eyes glowing golden, that HE would be getting her back, despite the girl’s own sister discouraging him & telling him he’d die. Hell, Feyre had this whole deliberation on whether she’d join him only after he’d say he’d go. His initiative.
The Hybern scene is too long to add, but this post and this theory break it all down brilliantly.
Yes, Az has sacrificial tendencies. Yes, he’d risk his life for loved ones in general. But we have never seen him this affected, and it is because SJM purposely used language to emphasize Elain and Azriel’s meaningful reactions to the other… despite it being wholly “unnecessary”
It is all intentional… lazy’s antonym.
SJM wrote the Truthteller scene. She emphasized the exchange, which left Cassian gasping and Rhys flabbergasted; it also left Feyre with a significant painting in her mind. It lead to Elain, aka “my God has answered me,” stepping out of a shadow to save her sister. Azriel, aka “God is my help”, indeed helped armed Elain so she could answer her sisters prayers.
SJM ended WaR with Elain’s smile literally lighting up Az’s shadows.
SJM had Elain’s thoughtful gift to him make his eyes the brightest we’ve seen—and by doing so gave us the most beautiful description of his earthy eyes, “the hues of green amid the brown and gray like veins of emerald.” We have never seen Az so joyful & carefree throughout the entire series.
SJM wrote that Azriel beat Feyre to Elain’s side as she was looking out into the night. She wrote Elain stilling at the sight of a dashing Azriel—her throat bobbing—while Az “just moved towards her”.
SJM wrote the potato scene—“sit i’ll take care of it”—Azriel again being the one to respect Elain’s presence & contribution as he makes a room full of his “superiors” wait until Elain finishes tidying herself up (cause girlie wanted to look put together for a certain shadowsinger). Mor gapes, Amren smirks, Rhys talks of Az’s mom… all because of that surprising, singular behaviour from him.
SJM wrote Az making a joke at Amren’s expense upon noticing Elain’s discomfort; our girl’s shoulders indeed relax in relief. THE LIGHT RETURNS IN HER EYES.
SJM has Azriel staying up past 3am with Elain, listening to her speak of something she is passionate of.
SJM wrote Azriel spending an entire convo with his brothers looking out into the garden from the window (SJM mentioned it 4 times yet some still missed it).
SJM wrote Rhys goading Az for a reaction as he quizzes him on Lucien and Grayson; wrote Rhys realizing that Azriel did not want to know what Elain did with Lucien (in the case she did anything). She wrote Azriel nervously stuttering as he asks risks if they need to get the sisters a present… I wonder why.
And Rosehall… SJM wrote ROSEhall: cracktheory this cracktheory that, to the gwonriels I’d say we both know you wouldn’t say it’s irrelevant had SJM chosen to call his estate Tealhall.
~~~~
Keep in mind: SJM could have written those significant scenes and ultimately kept it PG: she could have chosen language that built up a profound platonic relationship.
Yet… in MaF she has Feyre comment that they would be good together—as in make a good *couple*. WaR roles in and they’re both dealing with the very public rejections they went through—but SJM had them build a quiet companionship in the background, while giving them a wealth of scenes of great significance for both their characters, and while using language like “she DEVOURED the sight of him” “he CRADLED her to his chest”. In FaS they are slowly but surely getting over their last loves, and SJM continues developing their connection.
And in ACOSF, in the book that supposedly “ended” Elriel…
SJM wrote Az following the sound of her laugh (😭). “ It’s just lust” PLEASE BFFR.
SJM chose to remind us—THREE times—of the Hybern rescue scene... then had Az tell Cass that he’d know, in his chest, if something happened to Nesta.
SJM had Az longingly stare at the gift Elain gave him every night for a YEAR—mind plagued by thoughts of her—made him so affected by her that he had reactions to every mention of her name in SF, so affected that it took Nes one look at them to notice his feelings, to reach out in comfort upon noticing the pain that keeping himself apart from to her caused him. As SJM said she would, Nes saw through his secret in ACOSF, still it is “his secret to tell, never hers”. After Solstice we are met with a grumpy Azriel, who lost the snowball fight for the 1st time in centuries (i wonder why…).
SJM chose to link his every secret back to his feelings for Elain, as per the bonus . Why does he stay up so late and wake up so early? He longs for Elain so much he can’t sleep. Why is he staying in the HoW? It is too hard to be close to Elain given their circumstances; he must physically distance himself from her. Why has he moved on from Mor after centuries? Elain. Why is he grumpy post Solstice? The argument with Rhys concerning Elain.
~~~~
Ultimately, SJM wrote for Elriel:
- Complementary imagery (flowers and death? light and dark blending together to form something new… DUSK, anyone?)
- AND plot altering scenes
- AND chose to liken them to one another multiple times
- AND genuine moments of companionship that slowly bloomed into something more…
… Is it so insane to believe that maybe SJM spent so much page time and effort building connections & common ground between them because she intends for elain & az to find peace and quiet within one another?
Or idk, maybe it was all for shits and giggles… and if it was i salute her commitment to the shits and the giggles🫡
Either way, it is the opposite of lazy writing…
It’s SJM’s world & words, and we are just reading them.
P.S: This was all just typed on my cell phone from the top of my head… yes remembering all this is probs concerning, yes I am obsessed. Please correct me if I got anything wrong.

Of Nightmares and Memories /five/ Azriel X reader
Series Warnings: Kidnapping. Mistreatment. Cursing. Pining. Violence. Depression. Talks of suicide. Eventual smut
Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four
Tumblr media
They came not an hour later. You hid in your rooms like the coward you accused Tamlin of being. They didn’t put up a fight as Amerantha’s men, Rhys included, hauled them off towards the mountain. It left you in a state of dismay. Because with Tamlin gone, and the Faebane slowly leaving your system, there was no reason for you to stay here in Spring. You could easily run back to the night court and hide in one of the cabins your family owned. You could easily hide in the mountains and pray that one day Amerantha would meet her match.
Only you couldn’t bring yourself to leave. One day you tried, only to turn and vomit in the rose bushes. You then turned around and went back to your rooms and crawled under your covers. You stayed there and didn’t move for the rest of the day.
On the third day, Feyre showed back up. Much to your surprise, claiming to love Tamlin and willing to go under the mountain to save him. You rolled your eyes, but knew that love well. Because you would have given your wings if it meant seeing Az again.
“She’ll kill you,” You say from your spot at the kitchen doors, “The second she realizes you’re there, she’ll kill you. But she’ll draw it out, make it slow and painful.”
“Not helping,” Alis hissed at you.
“Who are you?” Feyre whips to face you.
You only smirk, “A friend. That’s all you need to know. Rhys might be your only hope.”
“Rhysand is a brute.”
“Perhaps,” You shrug, “But he wants out from under Amerantha as much as the next, only he has the power to make it happen.”
“What are you saying?” She questions.
“If he comes to you with a bargain, take it,” You tell her, “It could just save your life. Play his games, it might just save you from hers.”
“Don’t be a fool,” Alis said, “Don’t make any bargains.”
“Fine then, die and damn us all.”
“Why are you trying to help me?” Feyre asks.
“Because, dear human, I want to go home,” you said almost wistfully, “And I can’t as long as that bitch is in power.”
“Where is home for you?”
“The Night Court. But I’ve been held here for hundreds of years.”
“How old are you?” Her voice shook as she asked.
You only laughed and shook your head, “My age is of no concern to you. I’m not even sure I know it anymore anyway.”
Alis sighs from behind Feyre and gathers some supplies. you  watch her carefully, wondering if she’s eager to send the poor human to her death, or if she hates the idea as much as you do. But you can only hope that Rhys will help her in any way that he can. You can only hope that he wants out as much as you think he does.
“If you ever feel alone, look towards the shadows,” You explain, “I’m not promising I’ll be there. But if I feel I can risk it-”
“Now that would be foolish,” Alis adds.
“Thank you, Alis,” I hiss back, “You should go, now. Mother knows what that Bitch has done to your precious Tamlin.”
The idea of him getting his happy ending made you sick again. The idea of him being able to be happy when he’s caused so much suffering….you almost couldn’t handle it. But if this meant Rhys and the other members of the Night Court could be free then you had to allow it to happen. You had to try to aid the young girl in any way that you could.
“Stick to the shadows,” You tell her, “You won’t get far once you enter, but always listen. And keep your wits about you.”
“Thank you,” She said in earnest.
You watched from the broken front door as Alis led her away. You weren’t sure you’d ever see the human again, but you weren’t sad to see her go. It felt like leading a lamb to the slaughter, but it had to be done. There wasn’t another choice. Not if you wanted to survive, not if you wanted everyone to be free again.
Each day you flung your powers out further and further, urging your shadows just a little further. They whispered back to you, telling you of what was happening under the mountain. How Feyre was dying, sick with fever and how Rhys came forth with a bargain. She headed your advice and took the bargain, marking her with a tattoo and a bond with Rhys.
Each day you tried to find a way to contact your brother, but you knew you couldn’t risk it. There was no way you could reach his mind from so far away, not with the lingering effects of years of Faebane still in your system.
You prayed that maybe Feyre would tell him about you and he would figure it out for himself and come for you once all of this was over. You prayed and prayed. There was nothing but silence. No news came. Your shadows were skittish, growing restless waiting for Amerantha to do something.
You lost weight from not eating. The lack of food would kill you eventually, and maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing. If Valaris parished and there was nothing left of the people you called family- no one left but Rhys who thought you were dead anyway…would death be so bad? It could all be over finally, and maybe the Mother would be so kind as to bring you back to Az in the next life.
Three months. A mere blip in your young life, but feeling like a lifetime nonetheless. It took three long months before you saw three figures coming up the road. They were moving fast, all three of them. Feyre, it seemed, was no longer human. Your shadows neglected to tell you that when they said she’d survived and Amerantha did not.
You made your way downstairs, towards the door which you’d managed to somewhat fix. None of them looked worse for wear, but you knew whatever Feyre had been through would stay with her for a long time. And Tamlin had the ornate ability to simply sweep things under the rug and forget about them. He would do the same with her.
She looked High Fae, smelled like it too. With traces of my brother. So small, almost undetectable, but there. Shimmering like the bond you knew they had. You wondered when he would call in his bargain, when he would take her away from this place and show her the splendor of the Night Court, the beauty of it.
“You’re still here,” Tamlin stopped, a scowl forming, “I set you free.”
“You set me free, perhaps, but I would have died before I made it back to my own Court. Safer to stay here until I could contact my brother.”
“That won’t be happening,” Tamlin said slyly, “Feyre, darling, why don’t you go inside with Lucien. I’ll be inside in a moment.”
Your eyes narrowed as she did as she was told. Lucien spared you a glance, pity swirling in his eye. It made a pit form in your stomach. You wouldn’t be leaving the Spring Court, you realized. You would be forced to stay here until the day you died, or until Tamlin finally decided to kill you.
Maybe you would make it your mission to push him as far as you could so he would kill you. Maybe then you could finally know peace, and not whatever it was that you knew now.
“I thought I was going to free you,” Tamlin took a step towards you, “But then your brother made that Bargain with Feyre, and made me look like a fool under the mountain.”
“So once again, I’m to become your bargaining chip?” I question, “What? Me for Feyre?”
“Perhaps.”
“I could mist you,” You hiss.
“Ah, but you can’t,” Tamlin laughs, “Because even after all this time, the Faebane is still in your system. You can’t even winnow, because if you could, you would’ve left by now.”
He surges forward and grips your cheeks in his hand. You yelp in pain before going completely still. You won’t let him have the satisfaction of seeing you in pain, or anything. He doesn’t deserve the satisfaction of it.
“You, little one, are going to be here for a very long time,” He squeezed your face harder, “And I’m going to enjoy finally breaking you.”
Little did he know, you were already broken.
“Go to hell,” You spit out.
“I was already there,” He smirked, “It didn’t take.”
“He’ll kill you once he finds out,” You force out, “And I’ll watch and laugh.”
“I’m counting on him trying.”
