. El loves to learn and Dustin loves to teach

. Dustin is really good at explaining stuff and NEVER makes El feel dumb for not knowing/understanding something

. They are both autistic

. El copies a lot of Dustin's language and humour. Hopper isn't to found of his daughter saying "son of a bitch!" when anything goes slightly wrong

between dustin and el, who do you think is more likely to be scared of bugs?

neither they're both weird bug kids. they each have massive terrariums that dustin's mom loves and hopper hates. dustin gives el all of his old big books because he knows all of that stuff now and so a lot of her vocabulary is still simple but she describes EVERYTHING like it's a bug. she asks will what a president is and in the same breath tells him about dryocampa rubicunda (that was openly an our flag means death reference), her favorite moth and will is just absolutely dumbfounded.

dustin loves it. he's so sweet with her and when she is initially hesitant to meet his pet tarantula named dart two, but then for the rest of time every single moment she spends in dustin's house there is a spider the size of her knee on her back or her shoulder. it's a bit scary.

El sat shivering in Dustin's arms. It hadn't meant to end like this, Dustin comforting her. It wasn’t meant to happen at all. It was supposed to be a normal day for her. Going out with Max and Lucas, and then stopping by Wheelers’ house for some kissing session with her boyfriend.

Mike wasn’t supposed to break up with her.

Not now, not over the phone.

Why did this happen? She knew that their relationship lately was rather a delicate matter, but was she really that bad girlfriend? Was it her fault?

Another sob left her body, and she clung to Dustin’s chest even closer.

“Shh… Shh… I’m here with you. You’re not alone, El. I’m with you. You’re great and wonderful. Shh… Shh…” Dustin didn’t stop saying the same words over and over into her hair. Not since she suddenly entered his room and somehow ended up in his arms, sitting miserably with him on a floor. She didn’t even have the energy to explain to him what happened. So he didn’t know why she was crying, why she looked so miserable. But Dustin didn’t try to force her to say something, nor look at him with her wet eyes. He never stopped dragging his fingers through her hair, trying to give her some comfort.

He’s a great friend, and it hit El, that she was a bad friend for him, just using him, not even saying what happened.

Slowly, El moved her head away from its comfortable position on Dustin’s shoulder and placed a hand on Dustin's chest, splaying her fingers. She lifted her gaze to Henderson's eyes and opened her mouth to say that painful words finally.

“I-I-Im sorry, D,Dustin, I-I'm-m–” She couldn’t say that out loud. It hurt. And if she will say that out loud, their break-up will become real. And she doesn’t want that. She doesn’t. But Dustin deserves the truth. So she tried. She took a deep breath, clutching painfully a piece of Dustin's t-shirt in her hand. “Mike broke up with me-e. H,He called and b-broke up. Over p-phone. J-just like that and, and, and-” And she dissolved into shuddering sobs again, her whole body shaking with the force of them, and she could feel Dustin again gently comforting her with his words and tone.

After another few minutes, El could feel Dustin tensing up, just before she could hear his words, his tone clearly angry.

“What a son of a bitch. Piece of shit. Who the fuck break up through the phone!?” El understands him, she thinks, but now she doesn't want revenge or anything. She still loves Mike, and she doesn’t want to think about it now. But she would be lying saying Dustin’s words didn’t make her feel a little better. Making her feelings valid in a way she clearly needed.

And it's true, but right now, El just wanted to be held by someone dear to her. Deep down, she knows that she just wants Dustin to hug her and gently shush her again. No matter how arrogant that may seem.

So, she hugged him tighter to herself, clinging to his t-shirt on his back, and wetting his shirt with her tears again.

Henderson was rubbing her back in comfort with a little more pressure now. He’s annoyed, and it's clear, but his other hand on her hair still gently strokes it. He’s angry but weirdly, El feels safe in his arms. Safer than ever. And she knows he is able to be loud, but his tone is still quiet, as to not disturb her, and for a moment, El feels good.

After a few minutes, or hours, El wasn’t sure, of listening to Dustin’s steady heartbeat, she finally calmed down. Now, they were cuddling on the floor in silence, besides tiny sniffles and hitching sobs here and there from El.

Suddenly, Dustin's voice rang in her ears again.

“Do you want to lie down?” he asked softly, only feeling El nodding against his shoulder in answer. She realized that she feels quite tired. Like a kid. She would gladly use a comfortable bed. But not alone.

So she doesn't let him go even when she feels him standing up.

Dustin slowly got up off the floor with El still in his arms and guided her gently onto his bed, watching her adjust her position, leaving plenty of room for him behind her. But not letting go of his hand.

“I'll be back in a moment, just need to make some little adjustments.” He promised, squeezing her hand once and only then El finally let him go.

She felt tired, she realized again. Her head pulsing from sobbing, her legs numb from lying on the floor for so long, and her body aching for comforting presence.

El could've heard Dustin shuffling around the room, drawing the curtains, and putting something on his night stand. The bed finally dips, and El can hear her own sight of comfort when she feels Dustin pulling her to his chest.

She still feels broken and hurt, but she already cried enough for today, and now she just wants to rest her eyes for a moment. A minute. Maybe a little longer.

The last thing she remembers, before dozing off, are Dustin’s lips on her forehead.

El gets fixated on learning more about the universe and the stars because she heard Hopper talking about Sarah so many times that she got curious and started asking about that so he brings home a lot of books about the universe and she starts reading all about it and then one day she's out with the Party and she randomly starts info dumping on them and Dustin gets super excited that someone wants to talk about that so they spend like one hour ignoring the others that are playing cards and talking just between them, looking up stuff in the books El brought with her and planning to go to the hill at night to test the telescope that Dustin has at home

No Upside Down steddie AU where Steve gradually meets the members of Hellfire (-Eddie) in and out of school and they all come to befriending him really fast because “Steve Harrington is actually a good dude”

But Eddie fucking hates it.

And this only spurs Hellfire on because they think him getting mad over Steve Harrington is fucking hilarious.

Jeff who takes a foods class in third period and Steve does to and then the teacher pairs them for a baking project and Jeff gets to go to Casa Harrington. And he realizes rather quickly that Steve really likes baking and cooking and actually knows what he’s doing and that he’s not just taking the class for an easy A.

Brian (I’ve named him Brian, yes), meets Steve in Art class. Like Jeff, he thought Steve was taking it for an easy A but when seats are changed and they sit together he realizes that, no, Steve’s actually kind of good at drawing (particularly scenery). They get to talking about one of Steve’s sketches and the rest is history.

Gareth doesn’t officially meet Steve until later, but he does see him out with the kids at the arcade. Gareth works at the arcade and there’s this particular group of kids that just irks him— turns out they’re Steve’s gaggle. He watches in begrudging amusement while Steve rounds them up like a pro.

Then Gareth officially meets him after Hellfire one day. It’s fucking windy and he’s just leaving to school to go home when the papers and sheets he was holding are fucking torn from his hands. Steve grabs the papers— there after some kind of sports practice— and makes sure Gareth has them secured in his bad before leaving with a dorky finger-waggle wave.

And Eddie just downright refuses.

And then the school year ends and Steve graduates. And he’s convinced he doesn’t have to see Steve again.

Until, of course, Mike Dustin and Lucas join.

Jeff, Gareth, and Brian are all ecstatic to share their own run-ins of Steve Harrington to the three boys who so clearly idolize him. Gareth happily recalls how Steve “tamed” them in the arcade every time he came in.

Eddie sits in brooding silence.

And then Lucas joins the basketball team. And sure— Jeff’s on the volleyball team— but basketball jocks are so much worse than volleyball jocks.

Mike and Dustin, however thrown out of orbit they were at first, seem to settle in eventually and learn to plan around it. They think that anything that makes Lucas happy is a good thing (even if it did take a bit of a talk with Will for them to realize).

But Eddie? Eddie can’t stand it.

Which is why he refuses to move the date for the final campaign.

But Eddie doesn’t even get to introduce Vecna before Steve Harrington himself is all but breaking down the fucking door.

Eddie has this whole argument in his head that quickly dwindles when he sees the pure anger in Steve’s eyes (and also because Steve is really fucking pretty holy shit).

Steve tells Dustin Mike and Erica to pack up and get to the game before he drags them and you know what?

They listen.

Including hard ass Erica Sinclair.

And then idk Steve and Eddie get into a whole fight about.

But Steve makes it very clear that he doesn’t appreciate Eddie making Lucas feel like he can’t be happy doing DnD and basketball because that poor boy deserves nice things dammit.

And Eddie sleeps on it over the weekend before hunting Lucas down first thing Monday morning to apologize.

Lucas forgive Eddie (against Eddie’s protest because let the man grovel) but makes Eddie also apologize to Steve.

Which Eddie does by showing up to the Harrington Estate.

Eddie apologizes and they get high together and the rest is history.

One time, it was raining.

Dustin and El were hanging out alone, when it suddenly started raining. Firstly it was just springing but after a moment the rain began to intensify, and now heavy rain was falling from the sky, quickly soaking their clothes. El could've heard Dustin’s cursing and mumbling that they should hurry up and find shelter from the rain before they catch cold since the rain intensified, but she was confident in her abilities. She knew that she is able to stop the rain over their heads. So she tried again, completely ignoring Dustin, her focus only on the rain upon their heads.

It didn’t work.

And their clothes, as well as hair and shoes, were totally soaked.

El grimaced, hearing water in her new shoes.

“It wasn't that long...” She mumbled, and just then, she finally glanced at Dustin, who was now cackling next to her. Her brows raised in surprise.

Dustin, feeling El’s gaze on himself, stopped laughing, and waved his hand, trying to say it’s nothing, but his grin was still evident on his face. But... It wasn’t a mean grin, like people in California had when they were laughing at her. Dustin’s gaze felt nice on her face. Warm. And seeing El’s confusion, his expression softened, his grin turned into a smile.

El found herself missing his cackling. It was... It wasn’t handsome nor attractive. Not really, but. But somehow, she find it nice. It was filling her with that warm feeling, she still can’t explain, but she likes it.

(Joyce and Will have already explained it to her so many times, but it just doesn't make sense. Love? It’s strong emotion, yes, but, to that point? And why she’s feeling it again? After years since she and Mike broke up?)

“Shit. El, you’re hilarious. And cute. Like female Spider-man! But in a badass, cute, female way. You know?” He grinned at her again, lightly nudging her with his hand, and no, she had no idea what he's just said, but she nodded anyway, because he looks happy like a excited puppy. And if she understands him correctly, she is the one that made him that happy?

She hopes so. It fills her with pride.

But the rain didn’t stop just because of their conversation, so Dustin, being the gentleman he is (sometimes), offered El his arm, and she didn’t think twice before taking it. They linked arms, and she felt content feeling his warmth on her left side. With his other hand, he used his thumb to wipe blood under El’s nose, making her smile at his gesture.

“So, shall we go?” And he didn’t need to ask, because before he finished, El started leading their way towards the old building she remembers from her days on the run. “Oooh, okay, you can lead us, Ellie, I’ll trust with my heart and soul!”

El squeezed his arm.

“My bard”
